uh to hang out. Also got a loaded show for you,
just kind of giving you a roadmap of where we're headed.

well speak for yourself and at what Like Jason on Twitter,

and then an hour three we will have our third guest,

(01:47):
as we always do on Mondays during the NFL season,
Alex Marvez will join us to break down everything that
happened in the NFL Wild Cards. So we have got
a loaded show. Today would be a great day to
encourage you all to go download the podcast, as millions
of you are doing, to make sure you don't miss
anything at all. But I watched all four of the
wild card games, as many of you watched all four
of the wild Card games. You know. I hate to brag,

(02:09):
but I had an incredible gambling weekend four No if
you waited until you got the two and a half
point game line against the Dallas Cowboys Seattle Seahawks. I'm
the king on Lock It In. You can watch me
later today on television as well for thirty Eastern, three,
thirty Central to thirty, Mountain one, thirty Pacific. But there
are a lot of big takeaways, and I want to

(02:29):
start with the game that ended with the double doink.
Cody Parky misses the field goal at the end of
the game between the Eagles and the Bears. Immediately after
this miss and it stinks to have any game come
down to a kick, especially when the kick has missed,
and especially when it's a kick that should be made,
and even more so when it's a kick that was

(02:50):
made prior to the time out call by Doug Peterson.
Cody Parkey after the game said he wanted to go
home and see his wife in dog because he knew
they didn't care what happened in the game. That is
a really sad quote. Props to him for standing up
and answering questions after the game, but frankly, it shouldn't

(03:12):
have come down to this if you are Chicago Bear fan,
because Nick Foles was unstoppable once more in the postseason,
even with two interceptions. Nick Foles on fourth down hit
Golden Tate. A lot of people questioning whether or not
Golden Tate was worth the trade. There aren't a lot
of people questioning that now as the Eagles are advancing
into the divisional round of the playoffs, And to me,

(03:35):
the biggest takeaway from the Eagles win is and I
think this is crazy. I think there's a legitimate quarterback
debate in Philadelphia. I mean, I think for the next
five years, and we're gonna debate this at some point
during the show. I think if you were buying stock
right now and Carson Wentz or Nick Foles, there's a
legitimate argument to be made about which of these guys
is better, particularly if you factor in Carson Wentz his

(03:58):
health status. And if you're the Airs, I would say
the one positive you can take away from that game
is Mitch Drobiski made a lot of big throws down
the stretch. Fourth quarter. He was pretty outstanding. They didn't win,
but he was better in this game than I anticipated
he would be. All Right. That was the game that
came down to the double doin. Even in Techmo Super Bowl,
by the way, you couldn't double doin it to put

(04:19):
it off the upright, have it bounced down and then
hit the crossbar and not be good. There's a great
reaction of the of the Chicago Bear mascot just collapsing.
He was sitting directly behind the field goal and he
just collapses there at the at the end. All right.
That was one of the Sunday games, the late Sunday game,
the earlier one. Lamar Jackson through three quarters posted the

(04:44):
worst playoff performance for a quarterback I have ever seen.
I would make this argument to you. I have expected
for this to happen for a while because and and
if you listen to this show, you know I always
say the only thing that can't be stopped in the
NFL is a quarterback who can consistently convert third and
eight passing the football. Ultimately, the NFL is a third

(05:07):
down passing contest, and if your quarterback can drop back
when everybody knows he has to throw and can convert
on third and eight. He is an elite level quarterback
if he can do that consistently. And I haven't seen
that Lamar Jackson do that during any of this winning streak.
And at some point I knew this was going to
catch up with him. And credit to the San Diego

(05:28):
slash l A Chargers who made the decision to put
in a brand new game plan. They played everybody they did.
They took out linebackers and just played safeties all over
the field, and they said, Lamar Jackson, we're gonna put
speed on this field and we are not going to
allow you to beat us with your legs. And we're
also not going to allow you Baltimore Ravens to get

(05:48):
ahead in this game and to just work the clock
with your running game. We're gonna make you beat us
sometime from the pocket. And Lamar Jackson couldn't do it.
Now he brought him back at the end. Credit to
him for making a couple of good plays to make
this game even a little bit competitive after they got
up twenty three to three. But my argument for you
is that Lamar Jackson in ten is Tim Tebow in

(06:11):
two thousand eleven, If you remember the Denver Bronco Tim
Tebow team that beat the Steelers to Marrius Thomas touchdown
in overtime, all people said was Tim Tebow finds a
way to win. They talked about how he was able
to run the football. They talked about how he made
big plays down the stretch. They talked about how his
stats didn't overall matter. Tim Tebow in that two thousand

(06:33):
eleven season seventy two point nine passer rating. Lamar Jackson
in this run eighty four point five. So Lamar Jackson
has been better as a passer, But I think he
is fool's gold right now. I think he is Tim Tebow.
I have not seen anything to convince me that Lamar
Jackson is gonna be able to consistently stand in the

(06:54):
pocket and complete passes. In this game yesterday, Lamar Jackson
three fun Bowls, one interception, and a couple of additional
throws that could have very easily been picked off. I
just don't believe in this guy. I think he is
Tim Tebow two point oh. I think Tebow and Lamar
Jackson were the same guy. Now, Denver Broncos interesting, Denver

(07:16):
Broncos brought in Peyton Manning. That was how they managed
to avoid the controversy of getting rid of Tebow. They
had to bring in a big guy like Peyton Manning.
I think John Harbaugh made the decision not to go
with Joe Flacco. And if you go back and watch
my Twitter account, I said at halftime, we're out here
for the National title game. I said that you have
to go if you were John Harbaugh to Joe Flacco

(07:38):
because the uh, the Chargers have got a perfect defensive
plan set up to stop in any way the Baltimore
Raven offensive attack with Lamar Jackson. If you remember last
year in the National Title game, Nick Saban had the
same situation. Yeah, Jalen Hurts the guy and two got
him to the National Championship Game. Saban knew he couldn't

(07:59):
win it with him, so he went to Tua and
everything changed. I think that if John Harbaugh was trying
to win this playoff game, he would have gone with
Joe Flacco. And I tweeted at halftime, this is not
Monday morning quarterbacking. Now. I thought, in real time he
should have done it. He didn't do it. Why did
he not do it? I think the Joe Flacco decision

(08:20):
was about creating a mess for because if you're John
Harbaugh and you just got an extension, and you got
the extension because of Lamar Jackson, if you go to
bring in Joe Flacco and he wins the game for you,
then you've got a controversy going forward. Is Flacco gonna
be your guy or is Lamar Jackson? If you leave
Lamar Jackson in, you let Joe Flacco leave, it's Lamar

(08:41):
Jackson's future. I just think this is an incredibly important
offseason for Lamar Jackson if he doesn't want to be
Tim Tebow two point oh. There's now a lot of
film out of him. And if you're running quarterback, usually
what happened, whether you're RG three, Tim Tebow, Vince Young,
guys who came in and had incredibly successful first years.
All the defensive coordinators go into the laboratory, they find

(09:03):
out what they can't do, and then they make them
do it over and over again in year two. Is
gonna be a really challenging year two for Lamar Jackson
because I think the NFL defensive coordinators have finally figured
out how to slow him down. Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott
gets his first ever playoff win Dallas Cowboys with their
fourth ever playoff win since their last Super Bowl title

(09:25):
that they won in the season. I think this is
gonna make Dak Prescott a hundred million dollar man. Remember
Jerry Jones said after the Tennessee Titans beat him on
Monday Night Football and knocked the Dallas Cowboys down to
three and five. Oh, Dak's gonna get an extension. He
is our guy. And guess what, maybe Jerry Jones wasn't crazy,
because Dak Prescott played pretty well well enough to win certainly,

(09:48):
although I thought Russell Wilson played better. And this, by
the way, drove me insane. You have an unbelievable talent
at the quarterback position in Russell Wilson, and you hand
off on first and second down. It felt like every
single drive, every single time you need to get ten yards,
you start off with first down handoff, second down handoff,

(10:11):
and you put Russell Wilson into untenable positions over and
over and over again. But dat got the win, got
a miracle cover if you had the Seattle Seahawks plus
two and a half. Because you get an injury to
Sebastian Janikowski and as a result, you can't kick extra points,
you get to two point conversions. Pretty unbelievable outcome there. Finally,

(10:33):
the last wild card game that I have not talked about,
I thought Andrew Luck was by far the best quarterback
on wild Card weekend. There's a big gap after Andrew Luck.
He made one bad pass, ball, got batted up in
the air, got picked off. The Colts absolutely dominated the Texans.
Now we're gonna talk with John McClain next. He's the
beat writer for the Houston Chronicle, and he'll give us
a sense for how the season went overall. I didn't

(10:54):
get eleven and five coming off of a torn a
c L. You have to be ecstatic with what DeShawn
Watson gave you. But I also think in that playoff game,
you saw that Deshaun Watson still has a lot of
learning to do. One thing that drove me crazy was
down twenty one point at home. You're doing the first
down signal after every first down, including a play you

(11:15):
didn't even get the first down on. And I know
Deshaun Watson hadn't lost a game by more than seven
points since high school. But still that's a bush league move.
I think Deshaun Watson just needs to ease into the
quarterback position. Year two very good, first eight games, Year
one outstanding. I need to see a big step from
him in year three and see what he's capable of.

(11:38):
All of those were the my takeaways from wild Card weekend.
I got Jason Martin with me. You remember at j
mart Out kicked back in the day, my producer, my
fearless cohort here. He's sitting in with us every now
and then. He's gonna be with us here Monday and
Tuesday of this week while we're out in San Jose
getting ready for the Alabama Clemson game, which would be
going on later tonight. We'll be reacting that. Have an

(12:00):
awesome show for you Tuesday morning. But were primarily reacting
to NFL wild Card Weekend this morning. Uh So, Jason Martin,
I just ran through all four wild Card games. My
biggest takeaways? What did I leave out? What else do
you think needs to be said? Well, I agree with
a lot of what you said, So I'm just gonna
point out some stats that I think might blow your mind.
Unfolds his winning drive or what turned out to be

(12:21):
the winning drive thanks to Cody Parkey six completions to
five different receivers. The one thing that you cannot Carson
Wentz for if you want to make the argument for
Nick Foles, is that Carson Wentz has a serious affinity
for his tight end, zach Ertz. Ertz was on fire,
but he was not spreading the ball around he meaning

(12:42):
Carson Wentz Folds. If you want to talk about a
team that seems to rally around Nick Foles, Folds has
thrown the ball all over the place. Agalor's involved, Jeffreys involved,
Ertz is still involved, Dallas Goddard, who's a really talented
rookie tight end, He's involved. There are a lot of
guys out there catching pass is. But some stats about
the Bears entering the playoffs. Chicago was twelve and oh

(13:04):
when they allowed less than twenty four points, and they
were oh and four when they allowed anything more than
twenty four. But then Nick Foles comes in and beats
them and doesn't even put twenty on the board. The
Bears won the turnover battle in this game two to nothing.
Home teams all time in the history of the NFL
Playoffs that were plus two in turnovers were fifty eight
and six. So Nick Foles cause the first blemish against

(13:28):
this defense that's still played extremely well, and the turnover
battle was able to overcome that. So if you want
to make the argument, I don't know what this is,
but if Nick Foles wins a second super Bowl, we're
gonna start saying maybe we should put him in the
Hall of Fame, like even if he did nothing else.
Eli Manning is basically known for winning two super Bowls,
and that's the argument for putting him in the Hall

(13:49):
of Fame over other guys that I think are more talented.
Nick Foles wins two super Bowls, I don't know that
that's too much of a joke anymore. Now what you
said about Lamar Jackson, what I thought about our Jackson
going in was the absolute worst thing that could have
happened to the Baltimore Ravens going into the playoffs was
having to play a Charger's team that saw them two
weeks ago. Because Lamar Jackson to me is Hideo Nomo.

(14:13):
He's the quirky pitcher who the first time you see him,
you don't know what his tendencies, You don't understand his
tendencies and by extension, it's not just Jackson, but it's
the offense that John Harball started to use with the
running game and trying to maximize what you could do
with his legs. The second time you see that new
picture that's known more for a gimmick than the baseline

(14:33):
being able to stand there and throw in the pocket.
You could start to hit that guy. You could start
to get on base against that guy. So what did
l A do. They put seven defensive backs on the
field on fifty eight of fifty nine defensive snacks snaps
the Chargers fifty times during the entire regular season combined.

(14:54):
Did they do that? That's just five per cent? And
there was no one in the league that puts seven
dbs on the field for more than eight t snaps
in a single game. And they went thirty you know,
they went forty some more in this game, and they
shut Lamar Jackson down. Your point about t bows app
There is no history of what Lamar Jackson is doing
working long term and being sustainable. There's just not. I hope, Look,

(15:15):
I think it'd be good for the league if this
were to work, But Lamar Jackson's eventually gonna have to
throw the ball and he's never thrown for six since
high school. It's just not something that he does. So
they do have big questions him and Flacco. That is
a really big issue. As for the other games, Russell
Wilson quickly best deep ball thrower in the NFL this decade.

(15:35):
If I'm going down, I'm going with that guy. I'm
going with the competitor, the winner. It was crazy that
they ran the ball on first and second down as
often as they did to put him into third and law. Yeah,
I know they have a great running game, but you've
gotta mix it up. You've got to throw the ball
on early downs because you can't expect anybody, maybe except
Andrew Luck to convert third and long all day. The
Colts two rookie All pros, first time since the Bears

(15:58):
in sixty five with Dick butt Kiss and Gayl Sayers
who were able to do that. Yeah, that's a pretty
solid best third down percentage in the NFL. Entering, they
were very good, especially early when they took the big lead.
Andrew Lux only been sacked eighteen times entering that game.
The trenches weren't even close in this game, and when
I looked at it, I picked the Colts, and I

(16:19):
think the Colts have a really good shot to go
all the way to the Super Bowl. But Houston's offensive line,
to me, that was the difference in the game before
it ever started. And then you see you don't have
Will Fuller, and then you don't have Damarrius Thomas. So
Hopkins is gonna do his thing. But that one deep
ball that Shaun Watson threw right where it needed to be.
Whoever that receiver was, I don't even know the guy's name,

(16:40):
that's how relevant he is. After making this play, lost
the ball, like totally lost it. It ended up falling
behind him and he fell backwards and looked like me
fifty yards down the field trying to make that play.
They just came in battered. I mean, Watson's been sacked
sixty times. Pro Football Focus says he's responsible for twenty
of them for holding the ball too long. I've seen
a lot of that in the Music City this year

(17:02):
from Marcus Mariota. That causes problems, and it does get
you hit Watson's line. It was just a recipe for
disaster against maybe the hottest team in the NFL. Right now,
all right, we're gonna break down a lot of this. Obviously,
wild Card weekend is a huge day for us. The
Monday after wild Card weekend, we'll be breaking down all

(17:22):
these games. Up next, we're gonna talk with John McClain
from the Houston Chronicle. Will have him and ask him
some of these questions about the Houston Texans the Indianapolis Colts,
what he thinks going forward about both of those teams.
He was there in Houston watching that game. Uh. Like
I said, an hour two, we'll talk with Jason Whitlock.
Our three, we will talk with Alex Marvez, tons of
the NFL. Talk if you love the NFL, we'll be

(17:43):
talking about it all day today on the show. Also
out here for Alabama Clemson will give you a little
college football talk Tomorrow on Tuesday will be almost entirely
all reacting. In fact that the entire show will be
all reacting to what happens in the National Title Game
out here in San Jose, California, where we are live
doing out kick the coverage this week. In the meantime,

(18:04):
I gotta tell you all about m drive. Are you

He's at McLean Underscore on Underscore NFL. He is the
Houston Chronicle beat writer, been covering the Houston Texans for
a very long time. And John, I followed you on

(19:54):
Twitter during the course of the game. You said you
weren't very confident when it started, but you felt pretty
good by halftime about going ahead and canceling your flights. Um,
what happened to the Texans? And I guess maybe on
a larger scale, it's always tough to lose in the postseason,
But would you call this season a success or a
failure for the Houston Texans in total retrospect? Play the
playoffs were a failure. Obviously, you losing home. I picked

(20:17):
the Colts to win because I think they're better team
and they were playing better down the stretch than the
Texans were to win. The Texans look back forward in
twelve to eleven and five of course successful season. I
never thought they were a super Bowl contender. I picked
him as a wild card next year after they have draft.
They have one first round picked, two seconds. I got

(20:37):
six hit made and camp money. I need to fix
their offensive line and cornerback. Next year, I believe they'll
be a legitimate Super Bowl contender. What is the vibe
on Deshaun Watson. He obviously didn't play very well in
the in the playoff game, um and uh. But he
come came off of the injury and uh and looked

(20:58):
very good during the course of the season. Where would
you put him as you go forward into year three
of his tenure. Do you expect a big jump in
the off season given the fact that he's gonna be
a d percent healthy, I would think, And also, what
can the Texans do to protect him better? How much
of the sacks and the hits at the quarterback position
are on him compared to the offensive line he was
sacked sixty two times, twelve for his fault. He was

(21:21):
knock bad a hundred and thirty two times, and he
only missed one play played with a collapse long and
a a broken rib and a Bruce Sternham never missed
play during that period, and the end of the year
he was in the best shape he'd been in, which
I can't figure out because I watched him take every
one of those hits. Now they need They've got a
first round pick and two picks in a second, they

(21:42):
need two offensive tackles, and they have other needs on
the team, like they need corners who can run. But
if you have DeShawn Watson, that's like Cavtor Mercedes with
their offensive line. That's like putting the Volkswagon engine into
a Mercedes. And that's got to be corrected in the
off season, and I believe will beat Watson had twenty
six touchdowns, nine interceptions and not throw an interception in

(22:04):
the last six regular season game, had one against the
Colts in the playoff laws and his rating was six
in the league one oh three. And considering he was
under constant pressure and did not have a running game
at all in the last four games. He had to
lead them in rushing the last five games, including the
playoffs game, because their backs could not find a hole.

(22:27):
And to see how he played with such a bad
offensive line, Clay, I'm amazed that he played as well
as he did. His first quarterback in history had at
least four thousand yards passing twenty five touchdowns, five hundred
yards rushing in five touchdowns. And so I expect next season,
which will be his first full season as or as
a starter, he'll get Will Fullard back. He missed his

(22:48):
second third receivers Will Fuller and T G Q t
A could my nineteen nineteen games and if they had
half the durability as DeAndre Hopkins does. He's missed game
in six years and played the second half with his
shoulders frain that had to be in a swing afterward. Uh,
their receiving corps would be terrific. Talking to John McClane,

(23:11):
John the Dallas Cowboys, I know there's a big rivalry
between the cities of Houston and Dallas. They kind of
don't like each other. If you spend any time around Texas.
If you right now we're a GM, would you rather
have Deshaun Watson going forward, or would you rather have
Dak Prescott going forward? I think anybody's right mind. Where
the Shawn Watson? He's uh, based on what he did
at Clemson. You know tonight they played for the third time.

(23:33):
He was in the first two played great in both games.
In this game with no offensive line, plus he was
cut on his hand and the pressure was in his
faste a whole time. He did not play as well,
and people thought he would come up bigger, but he
had no running game. And I think most everybody says
Deshaun Watson's gonna be great. You don't hear many people

(23:53):
out of Dallas and for worst say that about Prescott.
What do you think about Andrew Lucket you're there watching
him in person? We had two guys coming off a
big injuries to Shaun Watson and Andrew Luck obviously didn't
play all the last year. Do you think Andrew Luck
in the Colts have a decent chance to go on
the road and beat the Chiefs. Andrew Luck, who I've
known since he was in junior high, he came back

(24:14):
and he's played great. He should win Comeback Player of
the Year. He should be in the running for m VP.
And when I think about how he played this year.
He's twenty nine, and what they've got more in a
hundred million in cap rahim and the tremendous draft that
Chris Ballard ad. They're gonna add more weapons around him
at receiver and he makes everybody around him better. And

(24:36):
that's I believe right now, based on the way this
team is aaded, it will not surprise me if they
don't uh, if they don't win on the road. They
want on the road, and the last came to Tennessee.
They won on the road against Houston Bust double digits,
and I could see them advancing to the SC Championship game.
Is it fair on Sunday? Obviously, Lamar Jackson was is exposed,

(25:00):
I think to a certain extent by the Charger defense.
I started off this program today by saying that Lamar
Jackson in eighteen reminds me a lot of Tim Tebow
in two thousand eleven with what he did with the Broncos. Obviously,
Tebow won a playoff game, hit the hit the crossing
route to to marry As Thomas. They went in overtime
against the Steelers. Lamar Jackson couldn't lead the comeback to

(25:22):
those guys that all remind you of being similar players.
Both Heisman Trophy winners, both non traditional pocket passing quarterbacks,
both able to run, and they seem to find a
way a scheme that kind of worked for a little while,
but it didn't last. Do you think Lamar Jackson is
a lasting future in the NFL at the quarterback position?
After watching him tell three and they have like two

(25:43):
yards passing and everybody booing and clamoring for Joe Flacco,
and then watching him bringing them back to two touchdowns,
that showed me something. He's never been real accurate. Don't
know he's if he'll get more accurate at some point.
He's probably gonna get his clock claim run the football
the way he does. But uh, Tebow, they thought his mechanics,

(26:05):
everything about his passing game, he was never gonna get better.
Everybody thinks Lamar Jackson will get better as an overall quarterback,
and so I would think that Jackson has a better
future in the NFL and Tim Tebow. Of course, Tebow
is a better baseball player. I saw Tebo out here.
I'm in San Jose getting ready for the Alabama Clemson game.

(26:27):
Appreciate you getting up early with this John McClean and
uh and breaking down this, breaking down this game for
us going forward. I want to get a little bit
of thoughts from you. Obviously we watched a lot of
those games yesterday and Saturday on the wild card weekend.
But as we go forward in the divisional round of
the playoff, I asked you already about Colts, Chiefs, Cowboys, Rams, Chargers, Patriots, Eagles, Saints.

(26:48):
Is there anybody that you think of that group? There's
some big spreads that are out right now, by the way,
Chiefs five and a half point favorite, Rams a seven
point favorite over the Cowboys, the Patriots are a four
and a half point favorite over the Chargers, and the
Saints are an eight and a half point favored over
the Eagles. Is there anybody you like to go on
the road in divisional rounds the playoffs and win. I

(27:08):
think the Chargers and the Colts are both capable. I
would love to see them win and play the SC
championship game in the thirty thousand seats stadium, which would
embarrass the NFL should be embarrassed for letting the Chargers
get away from San Diego. The game that fascinates me
the most, the Saints obliterated the Eagles during regular season,

(27:31):
just humiliated them, and I thought the Bears were gonna win.
I'm thinking falls magic is over. I would never bet
against Nick Foles based on what I've seen, and the
Texans not allowed him to score on the last play
in the next last game. Texans would add to back.
The Eagles wouldn't have been in the court in the playoffs,

(27:51):
but Foles brought them from mind as he did yesterday
against the Bears. And I just love to be his
agent because he is going to make of forging when
the Bears don't pick up that I mean, when the
Eagles don't pick up that twenty million option. But it's
He's fun to watch, and I still think the Saints
for the best all around team. But man, oh man,

(28:12):
trying to be Folds at this time of the year
is so difficult. Would you have thought it was crazy
for me to ask a question last year Carson Wentz
versus Nick Foles, who would you rather have for the
next five years? But now I think it's a totally
legitimate debate. I don't know that there's an easy answer.
There's not What if he leads them to another Super Bowl?
Victory the way it's the way the contract says the

(28:34):
Eagles at a twenty million option, they can't afford to
keep him at twenty they he has an option where
he can get out and payback I think two and
a half million. Obviously, he wants to be on an
open market. I would imagine based on what he's done
for them, if he told them, say they were as itant,
they probably would let him go. He's earned so many
bonuses well deserved. He'll make a million that he came up.

(28:57):
If you plays short in regular season and going on
the market at a time like this when it's not
a great quarterback draft is the perfect situation for a
thirty year old quarterback whose best years could be ahead
of him. But if he went back to Philadelphia first
time went through an interception, Eagle fans a big clamoring
for Fols. Nothing Winson does unless he's winners Super Bowl

is gonna be good enough for the fans. That's why

Card weekend. I'm Clay Travis. Jason Martin in with me
on Monday and Tuesday of this week. We are out
in San Jose getting ready for Bama against Clemson the
National Title game tomorrow. On the show Tuesday will be
all reacting to whatever happened in the National Title Game. Today.

(32:38):
We are reacting to the four different NFL wild Card games,
and in particular, I just teased this um and I
don't think there's an easy answer, and I could probably
add a third different quarterback uh to this debate. I
think they're really interesting decisions to be made all over
the place, uh with what should be done. So I've
got three different debates for you, j mart all right,

(32:59):
I've got Dack versus Deshaun the Battle of Texas the
Cowboys one. On Saturday, the Houston Texans lost two young quarterbacks,
both playing in the state of Texas. Which one would
you rather have for the next five years. I've got
Carson Wentz versus Nick Foles, the quarterback to battle in Philadelphia.
Nick Foles gets the big win. Uh, Carson Wentz has

(33:20):
obviously been very good, can't stay healthy, he's younger. And
then I've also got Lamar Jackson versus Joe Flacco, the
decision that had to be made by John Harbaugh in Baltimore.
All Right, I'm gonna start with Dak versus DeShawn. I'm
going to Shawn Watson. I'm saying that a little bit
nervously for this reason because Dad has not been perfect, right,

(33:41):
far from perfect. But Dac is almost indestructible. He is
like the they're doing all the commercials for glass, you know,
the the News show. He's like the Bruce Willis character
in that movie, Like you can hit him as many
times as you want, and it's like Dak just gets
back up every single time. Whereas Shaun Watson is a
great player, but he's torn as a c L twice already. Um,

(34:04):
he's taken a lot of big hits in the pocket.
I do think I would still go with Deshaun Watson, though.
If I had to buy stock in one of these guys,
which of the Texas quarterbacks would you take? I'm on
DeShawn Watson, J Mart, who you got? We concur I
go with DeShawn. Look, I've been a little bit down
on DAC and some people don't really care for that
and have tweeted me there uh disdain for my take

(34:25):
on Dak Prescott. I think Dak is fairly inconsistent, but
I do think you're right. Dak doesn't get hurt, and
Deshaun has been hurt a lot in his career, both
NFL and in college, and even in high school he
was banged up as well. I just think Deshaun Watson's
ceiling is so high, and I feel like Dak Prescott
is one of those quarterbacks that needs every single thing

(34:45):
around him to be going well for him to really
be playing good football. He's got Zeke Elliott, he's got
a great defense in front of him, and he does
have a few targets at this point. He could still
stand to have a few more. But he's got some
guys out there. There are quarterbacks this league that can
will you two wins, and then there are quarterbacks that
can get it done when the scenarios are perfect around them.

(35:06):
I think we've seen, at least to some extent, the same.
It's true of Jared Goff with the Rams, once Cooper
Cup went down, that was his slot target. I tweeted
out at the time, Wow, I didn't know Cooper Cup
was the m v P of the RAMS, and I
was halfway joking. And then I kept watching and started
to research and look into it a little boy a
little bit more, and it turned out, Yeah, Jared Goff

(35:27):
really misses Cooper Cup. Everything needs to be going right.
That defense wasn't doing its job, so the margin for
error was lower for Jared Goff, And all of a
sudden we started to see, well, maybe this is more
Sean McVeigh than we thought. And the same thing is
true with Doc. We were talking about if we redrafted
these guys, Doc would have been a top five pick
a few years ago. I remember us talking about it

(35:47):
on this very show. I don't think that's the case now,
And I think Deshaun Watson is the kind of guy
that can will you to a win and do things
that a lot of other guys can't, presuming you can
actually keep him healthy. All right, So we agree there.
What about the second choice here, Carson Wentz versus Nick Foles.
This is a debate that if I had had this

(36:08):
last year when Carson Wentz got hurt, and the Eagles
and everybody, including us, we all thought that it was
a done deal for the Eagles. This would have been
one of the most ridiculous debates we've ever had in
the history of the show. Having said that, I think
if you look at Nick Foles, I feel better about
Nick Foles as the quarterback of the Eagles right now
than I do Carson Wentz. Now, I know the numbers

(36:28):
don't reflect it, but Carson Wentz has had pretty substantial
injury issues and ultimately Nick Foles has come in and
won the biggest games. And I I know that Nick
Foles is a little bit older, but if you told
me right now, both of these guys were on the
open market as free agents and I could sign either
one of them. I think you have to look at

(36:50):
quarterbacks in five year windows, which is why I'm doing
it here in a five year window, because I think
it's hard to project anything beyond that. I think I
would rather have Nick Foles for the next five years
than I and Carson Wentz based on what he's been
capable of. And look, everybody forgets by and large that
Nick Foles also posted with Chip Kelly back in the day,
the greatest single season for a quarterback passing in the

(37:13):
history of the NFL. And now he's won a super Bowl,
and now he's coming into the year two and won
a game on the road. I don't think they're gonna
go on the road and give the Saints any kind
of challenge in that game. But I don't want to
bet against Nick Foles either, So I would go folds
over wins for the next five years if I had
the opportunity to sign either guy. What about you, I

(37:35):
can't go there. I feel like if you get Nick
Foles in the regular season, Nick Foles is a guy
that wins you seven football games. I think that what
we've seen him do in the playoffs is exquisite. It's
extraordinary stuff. It's amazing. I do believe that he gets
more people involved in terms of other guys on that offense,
and they do sort of rally around him in that way.

(37:57):
The injuries to Carson Wentz they do bother me, But
in terms of a guy that I would want long term,
it's still Carson Wentz. When you talk about the good
season with Chip Kelly, I've also seen really bad Nick
Foles as well. I just I refused to be caught
up in the prison of the moment situation, especially when
you're looking at it in this case against the Bears,
where the Bears margin veria is incredibly slight. Same thing

(38:20):
with the Ravens because you don't know what their offense
is going to be able to do, so the defense
has to be lights out. Do you not have to
factor in though? The injury? That's that's the injuries big
factor for me. But I don't think he was healthy
coming back, Clay. That's my whole deal is, I don't
know how good Carson Wentz would have been. And I
thought he played really well this year. He actually better
statistically this year than last year. And I still don't
think he was ever fully healthy. I think he came

(38:41):
back too soon and that's why he ended up back
on the shelf. So I don't know that we've actually
seen him make a comeback yet. All Right, Lamar Jackson
versus Joe Flacco, this one, to me is an easy call.
I go with Joe Flacco a billion times out of
a billion over the next five years. Honestly, I think
if Joe Flacco went to let's say Jacksonville and somebody
signs him down there. I think that he could be

(39:03):
fairly successful. Now, I'd rather have Foals, and I think
I'd rather have Dak and DeShawn Watson than I would
uh Joe Flacco. But I'm just not a believer in
Lamar Jackson at all, especially not after what I saw
him do in that playoff game. I think NFL defenses
are gonna catch up to him, and I think ultimately
he's gonna have to be a pocket passer. I don't
believe in him. Who would you take? Uh? Can I pass?

(39:26):
Because I don't want either one of them. That's the thing, like,
I don't believe in Lamar Jackson long term. I'd love
to be proven wrong about that. I hope everybody that
I get to watch his spectacular on a football field.
But Joe Flacco is done. I mean he might have
been a better option in the second half of that game.
Of course, if you take Lamar Jackson at that game,
you're pretty much signifying something for the future, so you
keep him in. And I I don't think Lamar Jackson

(39:48):
is gonna be a long term success. I really don't.
But I also think Flacco is done. I think he's
gonna look terrible into Jacksonville, Jersey, and he's not gonna
win a whole lot of football games. So I think
Baltimore is probably gonna end up looking for a quarterback
in the next couple of years. They were in a
real tough spot because there are a lot of people
that are gonna root for Lamar Jackson. But Lamar Jackson,
if you can't throw the football in the NFL, you
and you can't stay upright because eventually he's also gonna

(40:11):
get hurt. That's the other thing that people need to
keep in mind. If they keep doing this with him,
the NFL is going to slaughter him physically. Crazy staff
for you as we go to break here, Lamar Jackson,
if he had carried the ball the same number as
he did in the final seven games of the year,
would have ended up with more carries than Ezekiel Elliott
on the season. That ain't sustainable. Our one in the books.

(40:32):
Up next, top of our two, we'll talk Alabama Clemson.
We're out in San Jose getting ready for the game

We are, of course, in San Jose, California, and the

(41:13):
reason why we were out here is because Alabama playing
against Clemson, absolutely massive national title game. And I'm a
little bit surprised in general everybody out there listening that
there's kind of been a lot of negativity I feel
like associated with this game, Alabama and Clemson playing for
a fourth straight year. Oh, the playoff wasn't very good.
People complaining about Clemson whipping Notre Dame and about Alabama

(41:35):
whipping Oklahoma. Guys, maybe I'm in an incredible minority here,
but this is about as good of a game as
we could possibly have ever hoped for in a dream scenario,
you get too undefeated, unquestioned, best two teams in all
of college football playing to have perfection. We don't get

(41:55):
this very often in college football. We got it when
sc played Texas Ateist college football game of my lifetime.
I believe, I don't know that we'll get any kind
of game like that. I would if we got half
the game of that, I'd be excited. But we've never
in the history of college football had to fourteen and
oh teams playing with one of the teams guaranteed to
go to fifteen and oh. This is going to be

(42:18):
in modern FBS football, the winningest football team in the
history of college football. No one has ever gone fifteen
and O. Either Clemson or Alabama is going to do
something that no one has ever done in the history
of college football before, and they're going to do it
with a ton of talent on the field. Two is
going to be a first round quarterback. Trevor Lawrence is

(42:40):
gonna be a first round quarterback. There are gobs of
talent on the offensive and defensive line and the secondary
wide receivers, running backs. These are two of the most
talented teams we have ever seen in the history of football,
and I feel like college football. I feel like a
big part of this storyline happens to be where this
game's taken place. I'm out in San Jose, cal for you,

(43:01):
it doesn't really feel like a college football marketplace Levi Stadium.
It's cold, it's dreary. It's a strange location for a
game like this when you got two Southern teams playing.
And I feel like part of the storyline has been, Oh,
nobody wants to buy tickets here. Guess what. I traveled
all the way out here. It's hard to get out
here from the South. Not easy to get to the

(43:23):
Bay Area, particularly if you're a Clemson fan and you
had to go out to Dallas to go play against
Notre Dame. And then also if you're an Alabama fan,
you had to travel all the way down to Miami
to go play against Oklahoma, and now you have to
travel all the way back across the country on short notice.
When let's be honest, a lot of you listening to
me this right now, all over the country, all fifty states.

(43:46):
You've got kids in your car with you. You're driving
to school. Kids are back in school after the Christmas break,
after the winter holidays, and so it's hard to get
families out here. Mom and dad gotta work long break
a lot of times during Christmas and New Year's But
that's over now. And I would just say this. I
feel like sometimes we take for granted how many good

(44:08):
games we have when football is all going on. You know,
right now, in the wake of the NFL Wild Card weekend,
I watched all four of those games. We got four
Divisional round playoff games left in the NFL, We got
the a f C and the NFC championship games, and
then we got the Super Bowl. So right now we
have seven games left high level in the NFL. We

(44:29):
have got one college football game left. That means I'm
gonna watch all eight of these games. I don't know
about you, guys, there's only eight big football games left.
I'm not counting the Pro Bowl, and this is one
of them. And moreover, this is about as good as
any college football game can be. Now, what do I
think is gonna happen in this game? Well, I'll give
you my gambling picks. It's called the Tease, Boys and girls.
In the final segment of the show, i'd encourage you

(44:50):
to go download the podcast. Make sure you don't miss
that I was on a roll. Hate to brag, I
was on a roll with the NFL wild card picks.
I'll also be on lock It In giving you a
gambling picks for the National Title Game between Alabama and
Clemson tonight this afternoon on FS one four thirty Eastern,
three thirty Central to thirty Mountain one thirty Pacific. But
I think Alabama's gonna win. I think Alabama's gonna win

(45:12):
because as I look at this game, and I look
at all the numbers, and I look at everything else
that's happened. I've watched every big Clemson game. I've watched
every Alabama game all season. I watch a lot of
college football. I think the one area that Clemson his
weekend is one where as Alabama is very strong and
it's relatively weak. Not week like a hundred and twentieth
best in the all of FPS, but weekend that they're

(45:33):
around nine or twentieth year passing defense. If you look
at what Clemson had happened to them when they went
up against Kellen Monde from Texas A and m over
four hundred yards, what happened to them we went up
against Jake Bentley at South Carolina over five hundred yards.
I think that to a presuming that he is still
healthy and obviously he to do a lot of rehab
for his knee, I mean, sorry for his ankle and

(45:55):
his knee earlier in the season. Presuming that he is healthy,
I think to Alabama will be able to exploit Clemson
in the passing game, and I think as a result,
this will be a really exciting, high scoring, up and
down the field style game that I think ultimately Alabama
just has too many weapons against Clemson for so I
think Alabama's gonna win. I think Nick Saban will have

(46:16):
his sixth title at Alabama in ten years, which is
an extraordinary accomplishment the likes of which we will probably
never see. I think the Dabbo and Clemson will be
back again next year for a fifth straight year of
Alabama and Clemson because I think both of these teams,
with Trevor Lawrence and with two of both of them
are gonna be first round draft picks coming back again.

(46:38):
I think they're both gonna be the best teams in
college football again next year. I think there's a gap
that's opened in college football. Alabama and Clemson have opened
up a gap. Maybe Ohio states they're not very far behind.
Maybe you can also argue Oklahoma's they're not very far behind.
But Alabama and Clemson have put themselves on a different
level than anyone else in college football right now. And I,

(47:00):
for one, am ecstatic to see him play for a
fourth straight year. I can't wait to see what is
gonna happen. Jason Martin, you have been with me. You've
been fortunate enough alongside of me to get to see
these Clemson Alabama games, these classics, these title games. We
were standing on the on the field when Deshaun Watson
won this game for Clemson, and uh, I'm just excited

(47:22):
to see what's gonna happen. And I think it's crazy
that people aren't. To me, this game feels like it
should feel bigger than it is, and I think that's
because there's just a little bit of negativity associated with it.
I think because people were not happy with the semi
final playoff games and the fact that Alabama ran rough
shot over Oklahoma and the fact that Clemson whip Notre Dame.
To me, that's just a sign that the right two
teams are playing and that means that potentially tonight could

(47:45):
be a classic. I agree. I mean, you have to
eventually separate the wheat from the chaff, and the chaff
was Notre Dame, and to a lesser degree, it was Oklahoma.
So you're getting the two Bohemus, You're getting the two Juggernauts,
the two teams that you expected that who anticipated to
see in this matchup, and I think that you're gonna
see a lot of points scored. I think both these

(48:06):
offenses are so high powered. They've got studs that are
gonna be top ten draft picks at quarterback, at wide receiver,
at running back, in the trenches, it's ridiculous. Guys like
Quentin Williams. You've got everything that you want. And I
do believe this is a function mainly of the location
of the game as well. Last year, that ticket on
the secondary market to get into Mercedes Benz was around

(48:28):
seventeen hundred dollars to see Georgia and Alabama. Well, if
you take Atlanta and you go four hundred miles in
any direction and put a circumference out there, you can
make the argument that I can make that drive to
try and go there. So it is a hotter ticket,
and it's regionally located to both schools, to both Alabama
and Clemson. We know because we talked to these guys

(48:50):
so many times out in Los Angeles that California is
really a pro sports state. I don't know how many
times we've asked for opinions on college football on this
show over the last two years, and we've gotten basically
nothing from out there. They just don't pay attention. And
if USC is not relevant, they're really not paying attention.
And USC is not relevant outside of Cliff Kingsbury and

(49:11):
whether or not he's leaving and headed to the NFL
because of all that nonsense that went down this weekend.
So they're worried about what In Los Angeles and in
the state of California, they're worried about Lebron James and
the Lakers. They're worried about the Dodgers, they're worried about
the Golden State Warriors. And college football with two Southeastern
teams is the equivalent of the NHL to them. So

(49:33):
you have to create a Foamo moment, a fear of
missing out moment for people across the country outside of
the Alabama die hards and the Clemson die hards. And
the problem is it's the same problem every sport has,
Clay mainly. My TV is real good. I've got a
great looking flat screen, I've got a great recliner. I've
got the food that I want. I can invite as
many people over and not charge them a hundred dollars

(49:54):
to park. I can watch this game in nine different
ways with fine bomb or film room or all sorts
of other on sense, you've gotta make me want to
make that trip. And unless I'm a die hard one
of these two fan bases going two thousand miles across
the country to do that, that's a real tall ask.
But they did sell out there a lot. The problem
is the walk up and the other people. The casual

(50:16):
interest is not the same as it usually is, but
it should be because it's gonna be a damn good
football game. Yeah, I can't wait to see what's gonna
happen in this one. Um And and I really do think.
Look if Dabbo wins this game. Saban at sixty seven,
so I don't know how many more years Nick Saban's
gonna coach, or how many more years he's gonna coach
at an incredibly high level. But it's fair to say

(50:36):
that Debo is so young that he could have a
dynastic run at Clemson the likes of which we haven't
seen in a long time. I mean, the way they're recruiting,
and the the overall culture and atmosphere that he seems
to have created at Clemson. But man, it's tough to
beat Nick Saban at his absolute apex. And I think
you gotta give credit to Nick Saban because he's evolved

(50:58):
so many coaches. I think Jim Harball is a good
example of this at Michigan. So many coaches want to
keep doing what they've done before and expect to get
the same results. Nick Saban has gone into the laboratory
over and over again and reinvented himself and his team.
And I think that's the storyline so far for Alabama
this year. Alabama used to be a team that had
to win and could never give up more than thirty

(51:19):
points or they would lose. Now I feel like, look,
Alabama could win this game and give up forty It
wouldn't stun me. I mean, it would be a bit
of a surprise, but it wouldn't stun me. If Alabama
won this game fifty two to forty one, right, And
I think that's a credit to Nick Saban and his
ability to evolve as a coach, and also for Alabama
and their ability to win no matter what the overall
category might be. Up next, it's Jason Whitlock from Speak

Jason Whitlock joins US now huge Kansas City Chiefs fan
Jason Whitlock. As you look forward to the Kansas City
Chiefs matchup against Andrew Luck, your first thought is what

(52:28):
I've got so much history in Kansas City and history
as it relates to the Colts in the Kansas City Chiefs.
My first thoughts are, oh, no, here we go again.
A Chief team that you know, many people think and
make it to the Super Bowl has to play the
Colts coming out of the gate, and that just hasn't

(52:51):
been good for us. Going all the way back to
Lynn Elliott and missing fields. I think that was a
givest the Colts and seven something like that. Uh to hell.
Never forcing a punt I think in a game in
in Indianapolis once in a playoff game. It's just not
been a good history with the Colts. Maybe people I'm

(53:13):
from Indianapolis originally, but I'm not a Colts fan because
the coach weren't there when I was a kid. I'm
a Chiefs fan, and so I have this. You know,
people think, oh, you're a coach fan. Like, no, man,
I hate the Colts and I love the chief And
the Colts always embarrassed me every time this happened. And
so look, Andrew Lucks red hot right now, and the

(53:35):
Colts have a better defense than Kansas City. I'm scared.
So sources close to this show tell me that you
had the Philadelphia Eagles on the money line yesterday when
that ball is in the air and it is headed
towards the goal, and I think I think you had
to have money line parlay on both the underdogs yesterday,

(53:57):
if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, I had the chart just
and the Eagles parlaid together both on the money line.
That that was. That was a huge kick for me.
All right, So your reaction as you see it. First
of all, I don't ever remember I've been. I've been.
I mean I back in the day playing Techmo Super Bowl.
You know you don't get off the upright all the time.
Cody Parky has hit the upright like five times this year,

(54:19):
which seems like it should be worth more points than
just a field goal. Like, imagine if you've got four points,
if you could hit the upright, that would be I
think even more entertaining as a football as a football fan,
if you could sit there and watch that. But to me,
I was like totally blown away by it and couldn't
even conceptualize, uh when I saw that, not that he
that he missed, but that he hit the upright and

(54:40):
then it bounced down and hit the crossbar. I've never
seen that happen before. We can talk about the kick
all we want, but Chicago blew its last time out
that they mismanaged the clock with a bad kick here
that they know needs to be as close as you
can be. They mismanaged the clock, uh the calling that

(55:03):
time out with thirty five seconds left. They should have
spiked the ball pocketed at that time out and just
been won their last second offense better and and then
just at the end of the day, their offense and
Trabinsky made some big passes, but their offense just wasn't
consistent enough. You only score fifteen points at home, you

(55:26):
let it come down to your kicker who's had an
awful season. That's that's on the offense. That's on you.
We're talking to Jason whitlock Um reacting to a lot
of the wild card games as well. Um, Andrew Luck,
you said you hate the Colts. Andrew Luck I thought
was the best quarterback of wild Card weekend. And it
might not have been that high of a standard, because
certainly the most but he was pretty good. Other than

(55:50):
the ball that got tipped at the line of scrimmage
that he got picked off, he didn't really throw any
I thought that were very bad. They took control of
that game. They they kind of held it throughout. Um,
do you agree it was the best quarterback performance of
the wild card weekend? Yeah, but you know that's like
saying with locks of skinniest kid is fat here? Uh
and look Andrew look way well, but the old warming

(56:13):
thing was just like hey, man, defenses have shown up
and in this league where they keep trying to give
every advantage to the offense, defense is figured out and
then the officiating changes in the postseason. That's the other
dramatic difference. To know, what I'm talking about is that
they just don't give away those tikie tack first downs,

(56:36):
those holding calls they call on defensive backs every third
down just to give the offensive first down. They're much
more reluctant to call pass interference. It's a better officiated
product in the postseason, and therefore you end up seeing
better defense and quarterbacks that just aren't as effected. I mean,

(56:56):
like Philip Rivers one, I think he played very well. Uh.
You know, Dak Prescott was probably the second best quarterback
this week. Give uh, you know it was, and then
Nick Foles third. It was a bad week give for
the athletic quarterbacks Trabinsky, DeShawn Watson, and Lamar Jackson. You

(57:19):
gotta play this game from the pocket. Man. We're talking
to Jason Whitlock. You we talked a lot about officiating,
and a lot of times in the NFL the games
are so close. The call at the end of I
think it's gonna get overshadowed because of the way the
game ended. But the call at the end of the
first half, where basically they just made up the rule
on the spot because the rule the rules in the

(57:40):
rule book. Mike Prere pointed it out over Twitter and
they finally got it right. The right. Yeah, that's the
right call. It's in the rule book. All right, Well,
I stand corrected. There, you're you're on the ball. I'm
glad I had you on the show. Then being brought
to bear I call at the complete fumble game. Um,

(58:01):
but it's not gonna get talked about that much because
of the overall outcome of the of the games. But
let's put you in that coaching headset you are, John Harball.
It is twelve nothing at the half. I'm in San
Jose right now. Later today I'm gonna go watch Alabama
play against Clemson last year. At halftime, Nick Saban had
a quarterback who was twenty six and two right, Jalen Hurts,

(58:24):
hadn't lost hardly at all. He couldn't score, They couldn't
do anything offensively against Georgia, who had him dialed up perfectly.
They had the perfect defensive game plan for him. Nick
Saban made a crazy call, a borderline insane call relative
to how conservative Nick Saban is, and it paid off.
He went with TWA and they came in and they

(58:44):
won the national championship and they've been running with TWA
ever since. Shouldn't John Harbaugh have done the opposite there
and gone back to Joe Flacco at halftime? Totally different situations, Totally.
Nick Saban is sitting on on five six national championships.
He's his own man, he made himself. He's he can

(59:07):
make no bad decisions. He's playing with so much house money,
he's un questioned. John Harball six weeks ago was getting
fired or eight weeks ago was getting fired, and they
go to this crazy running game wishbone attack with Lamar Jackson,
Lamar Jackson and tennis is a year with more rushing

(59:28):
yards than any quarterback, and so John Harball gets to
the end of that game, it feels like I owe
it to Lamar. He's run me into a contract extension.
This entire locker room, uh is behind Lamar Jackson, and
you know he's the black Tim Tebow and he's got
a colt like following in that locker room. And if

(59:51):
he pulls him from that game, you got guys in
that locker room that will be upset. Uh. You know
you had Jimmy Smith, one of their defensive backs, yell leave.
That's saying during the game that we're yelling for Flacco
to come into the game. And so I just think politically,
John Harbaugh, because of how he got his contract extension,

(01:00:12):
and because those players on that team all caught up
in the social media black Tim Tebow Lamar Jackson movement
wouldn't meddle outlet. I'm glad you brought up Lamar Jackson
because I made that argument early in the show. I said,
Lamar Jackson in eighteen is Tim Tebow in two thousand eleven.
The way that the Broncos got away from Tim Tebow

(01:00:34):
was they went and signed Peyton Manning and then everybody thought, oh,
you know, Tim Tebow, he was fun, but everybody forgets
that if John Elway hadn't been able to persuade Peyton
Manning become to Denver, I don't know how the Tim
Tebow experiment would have ended. Tim Tebow obviously ultimately got
exposed he was a running quarterback that wasn't consistent enough
from the pocket to be a starter in the NFL.
Big offseason for Lamar Jackson. Can Lamar Jackson proved that

(01:00:58):
he is not Tim Tebow two point oh? I doubt
it because of the cult like following that is going.
Because one, I think he's got a long way to
go as a passer, and I just don't think he'll
be able to put in the work to develop as
a pastor because he's got this cult like following and
people in his ear that they should change the game

(01:01:20):
plan and do things. You don't have to play from
the popularmar you can be an option quarterback. You're throwing.
I heard some uh May Burrolson, who I really respect
and think it is good, at the end of the
CBS broadcast yesterday, was screaming about, you know, I think
he proved he can throw the ball in the fourth quarter, Like, really,

(01:01:42):
did you watch the fourth quarter? I did. I mean,
you know it was nice, but you know I did
watch the first three quarters and some of that stuff
in the fourth quarter was just jump. And so Lamar
Jackson will exist in this social media bubble and so
many people putting the media caught up in that bubble

(01:02:02):
that he'll He'll go into this offseason think hey, everything's fine.
I'm Lamar Jackson. I just set the world on fire.
I mean, he is r G three, two point oh
and Tebow combined together. Everybody wants to annoin him. I
just read some uh E SDN tweet talk. You know,
Lamar Jackson of all the rookie quarterbacks, he did X

(01:02:25):
Y Z and he and they're acting like he's had
a better season than Baker Mayfield, and he just hasn't.
I know, he won more games and played in a
playoff game and all that. But in terms of if
you're projecting out who's going to be a better NFL
quarterback right now, Baker Mayfield and Sam Donald was still
ahead of Lamar Jackson. He's got a ton of work

(01:02:48):
to do, alright. You're talking about Twitter, woke Warriors and
everything else. This got intersected with sports is an awful story.
Down in Houston. Uh, there was a seven year old
girl who was shot and killed when she was in
her car with or family. UM. And Twitter was in
an uproar because there was a report from our good
friend Shaun King that spread this all over Twitter, that

(01:03:10):
that it was a white guy who'd done it, that
it was a racism based attack and they wanted to
go catch the person. DeAndre Hopkins got drawn into this. Uh,
to his credit, donated his paychecks supposedly to the to
the family. I think of this of this little girl. Um,
and it was treated as a huge racism incident. And
now they've arrested the guy who was accused of doing it,

(01:03:30):
and he is a he's a black guy. UM. And look,
I mean, it's awful no matter who is responsible for
this crime. But it turned into a woke Twitter thing.
What's your response when you see a story like this
and you see athletes getting drawn into it as well.
I've just seen too many athletes caught up in this
fraud that Sean King is pulling off. People won't accept

(01:03:52):
the fact that the guy is white. His DNA says
that his birth certificates of his fam me photos saying
uh and he's a clown. This is not the first
wrong person he's accused of a major crime. And if
someone white or someone who identified themselves as white was

(01:04:16):
running around over Twitter falsely accusing black people of crimes
or promoting the fact that someone black committed a crime
and trying to be the police over the Internet, we
would shout that person down and embarrass them and run
them out. And and you know say, it's an example
of what everything that's wrong with America. Well that's what

(01:04:38):
Sean King is. And and so I want to be
clear here, and because I want to be fair, the
sister of the girl that was killed was the first
person to misidentify the suspect. But this is why they
always say the very leerium. Eyewitness accounts can be very acute,

(01:05:00):
using and literally there was a car that drove off
allegedly that they thought was the shooter, but was actually
just a car of heard the shots fired and drove off.
And I think that who the sister identified mistakenly as
the shooter. But this is one of the reasons why
you let the police be the experts, because they are

(01:05:22):
better at identifying shooting suspects, arresting them, charging them, than
some clown with an identity crisis over Twitter. I get
so frustrated with these athletes, and there's a lot of them,
and there's just a lot of black media members that
are caught up in Sean King, and hey, we gotta

(01:05:43):
follow Sean King over Twitter, and we gotta take him seriously.
This is a signal to everybody of how black I am.
I follow Sean King, And it's actually a signal of
how ill informed and how naive and ease lead buffalo
and fooled you are that you're caught up in sign King.

(01:06:05):
Take him seriously, treat him as if he's some legitimate
civil rights are just leaders a legitimate leader at all?
The guys a clown who needs to be ignored? What
like you're You're making a lot of points here And
I think about this a lot in the social media era,
do you do you get? And I don't know the
answer to this because I think about this a lot

(01:06:26):
when it comes to stories. Do you give stories like
these credence by talking about them at all? Should you
completely ignore it? Or is it important to call out
people when they're wrong like this, which gives them more publicity?
I don't know the answer. Honestly, it's something that I
really grapple with because I try to ignore this dude
most of the time, even when he intersects with the

(01:06:46):
world of sports, which happens far too frequently. Because of
what you said, a lot of athletes on woke Twitter
end up involved in him. I think certainly Colin Kaepernick
is a is a prime example. And the guy's just
a fraud. Um. I mean, he's a liar, He's not honest. Um,
I mean a history of fraud that's sold documented all
throughout the South. Everywhere he's been, there's been mismanagement, money

(01:07:11):
funds come up missing. All this information is out there,
but we all live in this fake Twitter world where
particularly black people and black people in the media, where
we're trying to do something to signify that we haven't
sold out and we're still down for the calls. And
so therefore, let me follow and retweet Shaun King, let

(01:07:34):
me be friends with Shaun King and get caught up
in his bs as a signal to everybody that I'm
down for the calls. It's a mistake, man, It's Twitter
the whole you know. I know you're highling it as
a stock or whatever. I think Twitter is one of
the great poisons in American society or in global society.

(01:07:59):
It's us leading. It's the creator, supporter, and energizer of
fake news. And you know this latest incidents a prime example,
is dangerous and and it just drives me crazy. How
many people everything that comes out of their mouth, people
in the media, athletes everything they do. Lebron James is

(01:08:22):
being driven completely bonkers by trying to be trying to
please his forty Semite or forty million um Twitter or
Instagram followers. Everything. These guys are doing everything. They're saying
that how's it gonna land on Twitter? Not whether is
this what I actually believe is true? It's will this

(01:08:44):
be popular over social media and Twitter? And that causes
people to lie. Jason Whitlock people, Uh, you're always popular
every time you come on with us at Whitlock Jason
on Twitter. Your show is called Speak for Yourself. Where
can pep will follow it? If they want to see
you and Marcellus wildly more often? How can they do so? Well?

(01:09:05):

He's a follow us on Twitter and s f wive.
I just killed Twitter and then play following the show
on Twitter, but every day three pm Eastern noon, specific
Marcells and I and a collection of athletes having a

(01:09:28):
good off, cnic, honest conversation about sports. What do you
think about the fact that I'm the new king on
Lock It In Again? My Gambtu fire this weekend? Oh yeah,
oh yeah, I didn't miss I went. I went four
for four on the wild card games. Good for you.
One of one of them was technically a push. I

(01:09:49):
did not say. I was big on Deshaun Watson in
the Houston Texas. It was unfathomable to me that Sean
DeShawn Watson could play that poorly. I didn't think that
we were humanly possible. Yeah. I think we talked to
John McLean about this, who covers him for the Houston Chronicle.
I think it's a question of how you look at it,
because coming off of an A. C. L tear, if

(01:10:09):
you had told Houston Texan fans, hey, you guys are
gonna win the division, You're gonna host a home playoff game,
would you take eleven and five? I think everybody would
have signed up for it. But the way they looked
in that game, I think that's where you you're come
back and you say, well, we've got a lot of
work to do to be able to advance into the playoffs.
Got through too many dirt drove me crazy. Amen. Hey,

Sunday's Wild Card playoff action saw on the NFC I,
the Eagles hold off the Bears for his sixteen fifteen win.
Chicago quarterback Nick Foles engineered a last minute drive capped
by a two yard TV pass to wide receiver Golden
Tate on fourth down with fifty six seconds to play.
The Bears did have a chance in the game winning
field goal with ten seconds left from forty three yards out,

(01:11:15):
but Cody Parkey hit the left upright. The kick was
also allegedly deflected a little bit ath Lina Scrimmage as well.
Either way, the Eagles advanced to face the Saints in
New Orleans next Sunday. That means the Rams will be
hosting Dallas next Saturday. On the AMC side, the Chargers
going to Baltimore beat the Ravens twenty three to seventeen.
L A kicker Michael Badgeley had five field goals. Baltimore

(01:11:36):
rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson's struggled for three quarters. He had
just twenty five yards passing before a couple of late
touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the game a
little bit closer, but he had an interception, ended up
with a late fumble that sealed the loss, and he
was sacked seven times. Charges advanced to face the Patriots
in Foxboro next Sunday. It means the Chiefs will be
hosting the Colts next Saturday. We'll be back to OutKick

I'm Clay Travis. This is Outkicked the Coverage. We are
live in San Jose getting ready for the National title
game between Bama and Clemson, but we are breaking down
the wild card playoff games as well, and I teased

(01:13:02):
here coming to the break that we were gonna talk
a little bit about the divisional round matchups, and those
lines are out. Let me run through each of those
right now. Uh, for those of you who haven't maybe
paid attention to the gambling odds that have come out. Uh.
The Colts going on the road against the Chiefs. The
Chiefs are a five and a half point favorite. Cowboys
headed to LA to play against the Rams. The Chargers

(01:13:23):
at the Patriots. Sorry, the Rams are seven point favorite.
Chargers are headed up to New England, going all the
way across the country again. The Patriots are a four
and a half point favorite in that game, and the
Eagles are at the Saints. The Saints have opened up
as eight and a half point favorites in that game.
Those are your four divisional round playoff games. Um. As
I look at those, I think the team that is

(01:13:45):
most likely to win on the road. To me, it's
the Colts. I think the Colts have played down the
stretch the best football just about in the NFL. They
are ten and one in their last eleven. The chief
defense has been very questionable. I love what I've scene
from Andrew Luck. I think the probability and possibility is
that he could be electric in the pocket if he

(01:14:05):
has time to throw. Now, the Chiefs do have a
pretty good past defense, but their secondary falls apart. I
think there are a lot of plays to be made there.
So my top upset pick. As I look at all
these matchups going forward, I like the Colts the most.
Who else do I like? I think Cowboys could beat
the Rams. The Rams have been a little bit sketchy
down the stretch in terms of of their defensive performance,

(01:14:26):
but also their offense has not been clicking on all cylinders.
So I think if the Cowboys match up well and
put some pressure on Jared Goff, it's possible the Cowboys
could really put a charge into the Rams um. Although
I like the Rams in that game, not sure I
like him at seven. Also really intrigued by the Chargers
going on the road against the Patriots. When I talked
a lot about the Patriots, they get to buy for

(01:14:48):
the ninth straight year, I think it is you know,
the Patriots this year lost to five non playoff teams.
They're eleven and five on the season. All five teams
that they lost to did not make the playoffs, and
they they beat several playoff teams of course, but the
most that they have ever lost to a non playoff

(01:15:09):
teams in a year in the Brady Belichick dynasty was three.
So I think there's a little bit of not necessarily
great talent on this Patriots team that's been a little
bit camouflaged. This Chargers team is now eight and one
in road games, and basically they play a road game
every week. I kind of like Philip Rivers and the

(01:15:30):
Chargers to go on the road potentially and upset the
Patriots and then the other matchup. As good as Nick
Foles has been and he's been phenomenal, I feel like
the Saints are really gonna take it to the Eagles.
We saw that match up back on I guess it
was Thanksgiving, right when the Saints just came out and
obliterated the Eagles. Carson Wentz was playing in that game.
If I'm not mistaken, Am I right about that? I

(01:15:51):
think I'm right about that. But I know I watched
that game, and I know the Saints came out and
dominated the Eagles. It may not have been on Thanksgiving.
I guess Thanksgiving was the Falcons if I'm if I'm
thinking about that, uh, And the Saints won that that
game against the Falcons by fourteen. I think they blew
out the Eagles like forty two to seven or something
like that. I mean, it wasn't even as close as
the score would reflect. I think the Saints are going
to handle the Eagles. I think they have to be

(01:16:11):
excited to get that match up. Let me bring in
Jason Martin. Of the four that I just ran through,
which one of the road teams do you like the
most to potentially pull off an upset? I like Indianapolis
because Kansas City's defense can't be trusted, and Andrew Luck
is playing at an m v P pace right now.
And I also think Marlon Mack is a huge key
with that offensive line. With what Nelson is doing, Mac

(01:16:32):
is running the ball so effectively can they even stop him?
And if they can't stop him, if they're focused too
much on Luck, Mac will end up with a hundred
and fifty yards against them. Do I think the Chiefs
could win? Sure? But I think they might need fifty
points to win that game. That's gonna be a fascinating
game to watch. And then the other a f C game.
The only reason I hesitate to pick the Chargers because

(01:16:53):
I think they might be the best team when you
look at just pure talent on both sides of the
ball in the a f C. Right now. They are
Forest Area to the Patriots to me in terms of personnel.
But they're the Chargers and we've seen them do this before.
And Tom Brady since two thousand six at home against
AFC opponents, has lost exactly two football games. That's regular

(01:17:13):
season and postseason. That's an absurd number. So you're going
to Gillette and you're asking a team that has historically
let you down to go into that place against that
quarterback and that coach and win that football game. And
you know what, I'm still taking them because I just
think the Chargers are the better football team. And eventually

(01:17:33):
streaks have to come to an end. And then on
the other side, the Eagles, magic's coming to it's speaking
of coming to an end. Nobody's beating New Orleans in
the Superdome, and it's definitely not gonna be Nick Foles
and the Eagles. I don't think that game is close.
I am very interested to see this Rams game because weirdly,
and you know this, after watching Tennessee football and watching

(01:17:54):
Butch Jones, Butch Jones will recruit a lot of high
end guys that didn't seem to play well together, and
he didn't know how to make them play well together.
The Rams have a bunch of names on their defense
that stand out that didn't play cohesive football this year
under a great defensive coordinator in Wade Wade Phillips. Not
a good one, a great one. So the Cowboys have

(01:18:15):
a good defense. They do know how to win. They
can run the football. If GoF has any kind of
an off day at all, they can be beaten. I
still think that the Rams win the game. I think
the a f the NFC home teams win, and I
actually think both a f C road teams do because
I just think the Colts and the Chargers are playing
football at a level that the Pats are gonna be

(01:18:36):
able to handle and the Chiefs are just gonna have
to score too many points. And as great as Mahomes is,
I like Andrew Luck right now, can you imagine if
that were to happen in the a f C, we
would have an a f C championship game in l
A in a thirty thousand seats soccer stadium. I mean
that would be incredible, right, can you imagine how many
Colts fans would try to make that trip out to

(01:18:58):
l A. I mean, how often do you get a
chance to put your team into the Super Bowl and
potentially take over the home field there. And I just
can't even imagine the vibe of what that would feel
like to be playing in a bandbox stadium kind of
like that. And for the Chargers, who really don't have
much of a fan base, maybe that would change. Maybe
everybody in San Diego would come roaring up and try
to put them into the Super Bowl. Umn, wait, that's

(01:19:22):
what that's what would take. Yeah, I agree with you,
by the way, that the A f C matchups are
a lot more interesting. Like I think the Rams are
gonna beat the Cowboys, and I don't think the Saints
and the Eagles will be that close. And so I
think we'll get Rams on the road against the Saints
like we did. What was that like in November when
they played UM. But I think anything could happen, you know,
Colts Chiefs, anything can happen in that game. Nothing would

(01:19:43):
surprise me. And I also think Chargers Patriots nothing would
really surprise me in that game either. I I kind
of like this Chargers team. I like the way they're playing.
I said before, if you listen to the show on Friday,
I said, my favorite pick of the weekend was Chargers
to win out right in Baltimore. I also said I
loved the Colts to win outright in Houston. And both

(01:20:06):
those teams were underdogs on the road and they got
it done, which was I think just this kind of
speaks to what is a crazy stat. I think I
gave this stat out an hour one, but this is
a wild stat. You know, I'm on the lock it
in show. Pay attention a lot to the gambling universe.
In the last fifteen NFL playoff games, everyone that was
played last year and the four that we saw this

(01:20:28):
this weekend played in the wild card fourteen and one
against the number four underdogs. I mean, that is a
flat out unbelievable data point there to be breaking down.
Up next, we'll talk with Alex Marvez and our three
will also break down off the top all of the
NFL wild Card games live in San Jose as we

(01:20:48):

The college football national title game will be going on

(01:21:08):
later tonight out here. Um, it is gonna be a
lot of fun. Can't wait to see what's gonna happen.
We'll give you my gambling picks for Alabama Clemson in
the final segment of the show. Today, we have had
a loaded show if you're just waking up with us
wherever you might be across the country. An hour one
we talked with John McClain from the Houston Chronicle, an
hour to my guy Jason Whitlock swung by to hang
out with us. And now an hour three will be

(01:21:30):
joined as we always are an hour three on Mondays
by Alex Marvez to break down everything that took place
in the NFL over wild Card weekend. And I'm sure
you guys are gonna enjoy that and we have much
to get to. But off the jump here, if you're
just waking up, I thought there were several major storylines,
and I'm gonna give you what I thought was the
biggest storyline from every game of a wild card weekend,

(01:21:54):
and I thought the number one storyline of wild car
to weekend. I'm gonna kind of go in reverse order,
so I'll start with the fine old game on Sunday,
since that's probably the one that's freshest in most people's minds.
Eagles Bears. Uh, the Eagles Bears game to me was
all about Nick Foles. And I know a lot of
people are gonna focus on Cody Parkey and the fact
that the ball got tipped at the line of scrimmage

(01:22:15):
and then double joint off of the off of the
goal post and then off of the crossbar. But to me,
this was a game Nick Foles one, and in particular
big time throws on that final drive hitting Golden Tate,
who a lot of people questioned whether or not it
was valid to have made the trade for him, hitting
him on that little out route there for a touchdown

(01:22:39):
and then finding a way How close by the way
were they to being up three, in which case Cody
Parkey's field goal would have just been to tie the game,
because you can't get much closer than I think it
was Smallwood who was trying to jump in and almost
broke the plane of the goal line couldn't quite get there.
Just an incredible ending in that game. Um. And and

(01:23:00):
I don't know about you, but when I see a
guy miss a field goal, I feel so bad, right Like,
I just hate to see a game come down to
somebody failing. I'm perfectly fine with somebody making a play
to win, but from a kicking perspective, I hate to
see a guy miss. And the quotes after the game
from Cody Park You were pretty brutal. Um. He was

(01:23:21):
asked about his game, he said, Uh, you know, I
want to go home and see my wife and my
dog because I know they don't care what happened in
the game. I mean, just a brutal thing. And you know,
oftentimes it's very difficult for kickers because kicking is so
psychological to be able to come back from a miss
that hurts this bad go off the left, upright, then

(01:23:42):
hit the crossbar. Brutal. But to me again, the primary
storyline was Nick Foles. Now, if you're a Bears fan,
you're listening to us right now. First of all, I'm sorry. Secondly,
I do think you can feel some optimism over how
good I thought Mitch Robiski played late in the third
and in the fourth quarter, he made a lot of
big time through rows for a second year quarterback. I

(01:24:02):
know he didn't win, and I know, ultimately the NFL
playoffs all about did you win or not, But there
were a lot of big time throws that I thought
were made down the stretch that you should be pretty
comfortable and happy with. I think if you're a Bears fan,
all right, what about earlier in the day, I think
that John Harbaugh made a disastrous decision when he didn't
pull Lamar Jackson. Where we are right now in San

(01:24:24):
Jose one year ago in Atlanta, Georgia, in the National
Title Game between Georgia and Alabama, Nick Saban faced a choice.
He could stick with Jalen Hurts, who had gotten Alabama
to the National Title game, who had gone twenty six
and two as a starter, but who Georgia had diagnosed
a perfect game plan for and we're not going to

(01:24:46):
allow them to beat them. Or he could have gone
with two and talking about Lola, a quarterback who has
never played in a big time situation before in his career,
and Nick Saban made the most calculated gamble of his
coaching career and went to to ah and benched Jalen
Hurts because ultimately he knew all that mattered was that game.
Right then and now, I tweeted at halftime the same

(01:25:09):
thing about the Chargers Ravens game as I did about
Alabama Georgia. I said, you have to go to your
backup quarterback. Joe Flacco is a Super Bowl m v P.
He's won a lot of playoff games. Few quarterbacks ever
have performed at a higher level in the postseason than
Joe Flacco. You had a chance to go to him,
You had an opportunity down twelve nothing to give him

(01:25:32):
the ball and say, Joe Flacco, go win this game
for us. Lamar Jackson maybe the quarterback of the future,
but he doesn't have to be the quarterback of right now.
And instead, I think John Harball was afraid of creating
quarterback drama. He got an extension on his contract because
he brought in Lamar Jackson and everything has gone perfect

(01:25:53):
since and he didn't want to upset that apple cart,
and so he stuck with Lamar Jackson, and ultimately that
was the reason the Ravens lost. Now, look, the line
didn't block perfectly for Lamar Jackson. They couldn't run the ball.
There were lots of reasons why they lost, but I
think the primary reason they lost was because the Chargers
had such a perfect game plan designed to stop him.

(01:26:16):
Just like Tim Tebow in two thousand eleven, Lamar Jackson
in eighteen is a flawed quarterback. Saw Bill Coward say,
most of the time, you make the playoffs because of
the things you do well. You lose in the playoffs
because of the things you don't do very well, because
everybody can scheme you up. I think that the Charger

(01:26:38):
schemed up Lamar Jackson. I don't think they would have
been prepared if the Ravens had gone with Joe Flacco
because their game plan, much like in Alabama Georgia, was
designed to stop one quarterback, and when you bring in
another type of quarterback, they're not able to adjust on
the fly. Instead, Ravens lose. Chargers advance. To me, the
storyline was the stubbornness of John Ball and not adjusting

(01:27:01):
on the fly. Saturday Games Late game Dallas Cowboys. I
think that game could have been worth a hundred million
dollars to Dak Prescott. If you remember, right after the
Monday night football game, they lost at home. To follow
the three and five, Jerry Jones went on the radio
and he said, we're gonna extend Dak, and everybody, myself included, said,
Jerry Jones, you're crazy. Dak Prescott now has won a

(01:27:22):
playoff game. They will get a chance to go on
the road and win in l A. And I think
Dak Prescott that win was worth a hundred million dollars
to him because I think they're gonna extend him. I
think that he's gonna be the Dallas Cowboy quarterback of
the future. I'm still not sure how good he is,
but I think Jerry Jones is convinced he's the future
of the franchise and he is going to get a
big time contract as a result of that win. Finally,

(01:27:44):
best quarterback performance of the weekend came in the early
game on Saturday, Andrew Luck was the best quarterback all
weekend long. Let me say this also, by the way,
Seattle Seahawk fans, I'd be furious at Pete Carroll, furious
at Shanahan, furious at that offense, the fact that you
did not let Russell Wilson make more plays. Even with
the way that that game went down, I think Russell

(01:28:07):
Wilson was the second best quarterback in wild Card Weekend,
right behind Andrew Luck. I think if they'd let him
make more plays, they would have won that game against Cowboys.
I really do. Andrew Luck was phenomenal. He was fantastic.
He was splendid. He dominated that game, made one bad
throw that was picked off. Deshaun Watson was just average.
I said this early in the show, Deshaun Watson getting

(01:28:29):
up and doing the first down sign down twenty one
points after he scrambled. He didn't even get the first down.
He got knocked out of bounds before it. I thought
that was evidence of him just being so youthful. He
wasn't aware of what he looked like to everybody else.
It's one thing to celebrate the first down when you're
up twenty one at home. It's another thing entirely to

(01:28:51):
do it when you're down twenty one at home. I
thought that Andrew Luck took Deshaun Watson to school. And
Andrew Luck played a phenomenal game, and I think there's
a good chance that Andrew Luck and the Colts are
gonna go on the road against the Chiefs and win
next week. In the Divisional round playoff game. We're gonna
be joined by Alex Marvez here coming up shortly. We'll
break down all the wild card games from his perspective.

(01:29:12):
Will also get you ready for the divisional round playoff games.
Final segment of this show, just so you know out there,
we are gonna be giving out my gambling picks Alabama
Clemson tonight we're in San Jose. I'm gonna give you
what I think are the best plays on that game.
I will give them all to you at the end
of the show. But up next it's gonna be Alex Marvez.

(01:29:32):
And by the way, it's a new year. That means
there's new resolutions. That means we've got all sorts of
things that are going on and a lot of you
right now need to take care of your teeth. And
if you decided to take care of your oral health,
you need to get a quip electric toothbrush. Sticking to
good habits is simple. They tell you exactly how to
do it. Get hooked up now with a built in

to switch sides and make sure you're brushing your teeth
for long enough that's because nine of us don't brush
for a full two minutes or don't clean our teeth evenly.
How about getting automatic, brand new brush heads automatically delivered
on a dentist recommended schedule every three months for just
five bucks. That's because of us use old, worn out
bristles that are ineffective. Quip is one of the first

(01:30:15):
electric toothbrushes accepted by the American Dental Association. They're backed
by over twenty five thousand dental professionals and they have
thousands of verified five star reviews. That's why I love Quip,
It's why I use it at my house, and that's
why I think you should as well. And that's also
why there are over one million happy, healthy mouths using
Quip as well. Starts just twenty five bucks. If you

(01:31:38):
and Alex, We've been talking about it all show, but
I feel like we can't talk about it enough. NFL
Wild Card weekend obviously was was a heck of a hit.
But the play, the talk, everything surrounding the way that
the Bears game ended. Where does that rank for you?
In one of the most improbable endings ever? Not just

(01:31:58):
Alex to hit the old post, then tech most super
Bowl one of the greatest video games of all time.
You only hit the goal post once. You don't then
bounce down and hit the crossbar. I couldn't tell for
a minute whether it had gone through or not. That's
one of the most excruciating playoff losses I can ever imagine.
I can't imagine being a Bears fan this morning, waking

(01:32:20):
up still seeing that in my nightmares. What if you're
Cody Parkey as well? I mean, what an absolute disaster.
And you know, and and the Bears, by the way,
in for a penny, in for a pound. You know,
they signed him to a big money contract in the
eighteen off season, four years, fifteen million dollars. Oh and
by the way, his base salary for next season of
two point eight million dollars is guaranteed. So you're on

(01:32:40):
the hook with Cody Parkey. And this is the type
of thing I hate to say it. I hope the
young man doesn't experience this, but everyone's careers, you know,
guys sometimes never make it all the way back from
a situation like this. And you know, how do you
go in and face your teammates, you know, because it's
not just you know, the double joink is huge, but
he'd been jinking all season, you know. And I'm not
talking about Matt Bourne in his old w W E
Days act in the early nine nineties. I mean, this

(01:33:02):
guy has been a little bit shaky, and you know,
look we can and of course there's blame to go around,
right Matt Maggie, you know, hey, why didn't you call
the time out earlier inside the two minute market? And
let's let's start that. Let's start there because I tweeted
that out live watching it. That to me right after
the first down play, because you know at some point
that the Eagles are going to have to throw the
ball right, so it's not like they're going to run

(01:33:22):
the ball for four straight times. Uh. The play there,
I think is probably to call a time out immediately.
Now he still had a time out saved, and that's
a field goal that you should make. But if you
think it's the right play to call a time out
there right after the Eagles first down and first in
goal situation, well, I mean, so if we play this
out here, and let's say that you know that the
Bears do stop the Eagles from scoring and they've used

(01:33:43):
all their time out, then they're trying to run play
the Eagles had all their time outs, so you're trying
to run plays from inside your five yard line and
get the football out with a second year quarterback. And
I want to look back to some point to that
situation as well, So you know, are you putting your
team in really the best position for that? I mean,
they had plenty of time, and then they do what
they needed to do, right, they put the game position

(01:34:03):
for a forty three yard field goal. I mean, Clay,
what does the accuracy on that? I mean, no wind,
I mean you've got to be able to make that
kick ultimately, and the guy didn't. That was it. And look,
Doug Peterson, I guess he deserves credit as well. He
called the time out, he aced Cody Parky. As you saw,
Cody followed through, still got the kick off and it
was good on his first attempt, but obviously nullified by
the time out. So I think, really, just I get it.

(01:34:26):
There's gonna be a lot of ways we can look
at me. Look, you want to take a step back
even even more so, why couldn't you know the Bears defense,
there's spawn to defense. Why couldn't they do more against
the Eagles passing game? Why couldn't they stop those tight
ends from catching passes? You know? I mean, why couldn't
they stop golden tape from getting into the end zone?
You know, I mean those types of things. Yeah, I
get it, you know, fourth down play, they didn't make
the big stop. But ultimately this falls on Cody Parky.

(01:34:48):
He needed to make a kick, no excuses, he didn't
hit it, and now the Bears pay the consequence. Their
season is done. Okay, let's talk more a little bit
about this game. How much money is Nick Foles going
to get and why is he so magic in the postseason.
I mean, I don't know about you, but I don't
feel like if Carson Wentz had stayed with the Eagles,
even though statistically he's better. Um that the Eagles are

(01:35:10):
in this position at all, they obviously win on the road.
They're gonna go on the road again. Um, they have
to win three straight road games as the number six
seed to advance to the Super Bowl. But this team
believes in Nick Foles, and I understand Carson Wentz maybe
the quarterback of the future, but there's a lot of
guys sitting around in the NFL watching Nick Foles. He's
gonna make a hundred million dollars, isn't he Well, that's

(01:35:30):
a great question. You know, as each as each week
goes on in the NFL, you know, you would figure
that he is the guy in his questions. So it
becomes who's in the market for Nick Foles? What team
out there is looking for a new quarterback that could
potentially swing a trade with the Eagles? And I need
to just explain this real quick here to play on
his contract because it gets a little bit goofy. So
they have Nick Foles, this option that they can exercise

(01:35:52):
for twenty million dollars. What happens? Is there any way
they Is there any way they do that? Is there
any way the Eagles because they still have Carson Wentz
under his rookie contra act? Right, Is there any way
they say, given wins, his history and issues, we're willing.
You know, if you look at what your first starting
quarterback and your second string quarterback make, that wouldn't necessarily
put them completely off the reservation in terms of cost.

(01:36:14):
Is there any way in your mind the Eagles say, yeah,
we'll pay you twenty million. I don't think you keep both.
And the reason is it's a position where You're just
not you know, you don't play the two guys, You're
not rotating them, you know, on on a regular basis.
So I just don't I think you know so. So
I'm going with this is if they keep him and
it's to trade him, you understand what I'm saying here
With this twenty million dollar option, then Nick Foles can

(01:36:35):
buy his way out of the option. He has to
return two million dollars in cash to the Philadelphi Eagles
and then he gets his freedom. But the Eagles can
still place the franchise tag on him at that point.
That would guarantee him even more money in but it
does create the possibility of assign and trade type of situation.
Of course, if Nick doesn't like where he's traded to,
he'll say, Okay, I'll play him with the franchise tag

(01:36:56):
for one year and I'll see you later. So you
know everything. I apperiod for people out there listening right now,
because I'm hearing all this, is there any quarterback controversy
in your mind at all in Philadelphia? Or is Carson
Wentz their guy for years and years ahead? And whatever
happens in this postseason, nick Foles is eventually going to
be leaving the Eagles, Clay, I can't say that with confidence.

(01:37:17):
I don't think anyone can. What if the guy keeps winning,
you know, and you talk about it with Foles. Listen,
you look at the first two games of the season,
and you know, we were so quick to write off
Nick Foles because of his past, right, I mean Javroni quarterback,
you know with the Kansas City Chiefs, and the play
started one game there got cut by the Rams. He
was terrible. I mean they'll saying, you know, after that
great season under Chip Kelly. You know, his play tapered

(01:37:38):
off in Philadelphia, but you know he won his first
game against the Falcons, lost in Tampa Bay, and that
was always saw Nick Foles. After that, it was Carson
Wentz his team. So when the guy came back and
you know, resumed the starting spot in week fifteen, everyone
just thought, oh, yeah, he's gonna be lousy. Well he wasn't.
I mean, you know, just like the Eagles got going
on offense, Carson, you know, Nick Foles got going, you know,
right now, and he's doing a great job. He throws

(01:38:00):
the football deep, he's got a great sense of the pass,
rushes mechanics are outstanding. I mean, and he's a leader
and the guys respect him in the locker room. So
I just I can't tell you, you know, for any
with any certainty that no, it's for sure, this is
Carson Wentz's team. I mean, if you're the Eagles, if
this guy takes you to a super Bowl, how do
you let him walk away? And listen, Carson Wentz, it

(01:38:21):
was gonna have more trade value than Nick Foles because
you're picking up a rookie contract at that point. So
if you're talking about recouping some big time draft picks,
especially teams if you don't want to invest in Nick
Foles and you're not a percent convinced that he could
flourish in your offense, by the way, and there's a
big difference there, because remember, Carson Wentz is flourished in
this offense, the Doug Peterson Kansas City Chiefs derivative offense.

(01:38:42):
If you do not believe that he can do that, man,
wouldn't Carson Wentz look better on your team potentially as
a QB. Let me ask you this question. Now we're
talking to Alex Marvez reacting to NFL Wild Card Saturday
and Sunday, and we haven't even gotten beyond the Eagles
Bears yet, but we will, I promise. If I had
told you last year when Carson Wentz got injured, hey,

(01:39:02):
next year, come January, there's gonna be a major controversy
in Philadelphia over whether the future franchise quarterback is a
guy named Nick Foles who's coming in now for Carson
Wentz or Carson Wentz. Would you have demanded that I'd
be committed to an insane asylum. Well, I demand that anyway,
but no, right exactly know this that he has even

(01:39:23):
more fuel too, and which it was unusual, unbelievable story
what he has done. But you listen, this is where
this playoff experience comes in. And like I said, I
wanted to look back to something with Mr Drabinsky and
Alex Marvez learned a valuable less than this past weekend.
I took all the home teams in this little pool
that I do with somebuddy's and I ended up going
one for three, right, And you know, I just I'd say, okay,

(01:39:43):
look when it when in doubt, take the home team.
But look at all the teams are lost in the
experience at the quarterback position. Mr. Robinsky, second year is
an NFL starter. Lamar Jackson rookie quarterback starting Deshaun Watson,
second year NFL starting quarterback. I think there's a common
thread here that when playoff football begins, if you don't
have someone who's been there and done that under center,
a lot of times, you're gonna end up losing those games.

(01:40:04):
And I think this was a really good example of that.
A guy like Nick Foles, who has handled the most
pressure situation you can going against the New England Patriots
and a Super Bowl, this to him was fine, going
a soldier field where sometimes the game can get a
little bit too big for a quarterback. I will tell
you this, it got a little bit too big for
Lamar Jackson on Sunday. Yeah. We're gonna get to that
in a second. I will say this though, so first
of all, for all the gamblers out there, this is

(01:40:25):
an unbelievable stat last two years underdogs fourteen and one
against the spread, because ultimately that Cowboy game ended up
going off with the Cowboys is a two and a
half point favorite. Unbelievable back door there because Sebastian Janikowski
hurt his hamstring, which will get to in a minute.
But let's go to that Lamar Jackson question. Okay, so

(01:40:45):
I'm watching this game. I tweet out during the game
at halftime. To me, this was like a Tah and
Jalen Hurt situation that you knew if you are a
reasonable person, and John Harbaugh is clearly a reasonable person,
highly successful head coach, that the Chargers had everything they
were trying to do on offense with Lamar Jackson diagnosed,

(01:41:06):
and much like Nick Saban, went in at halftime, even
though it was the National Championship game, and even though
Jalen Hurts at that point was twenty six and two
as a starter or whatever he was, he said, in
order to win this game, I gotta go to two
with ty By Lowland. We've seen what's happened. Since you
have a Super Bowl m v P and Joe Flacco
sitting on your bench healthy and you're only down. I
guess it was twelve nothing at the half. How do

(01:41:27):
you think? How seriously do you think John Harbaugh considered
bringing in uh Flacco in the second half? Should he
have done it? In retrospect? Right, you know he should
have brought in the more experienced password. There's no guarantee
that Joe Flacco, after being in mothballs for two months,
two and a half months, would have come off the
bench and you know done his you know Nick Foles moment,
You know what I mean, he listen. I will say this,

(01:41:49):
John Harbaugh wants to win a game, and he figured
Lamar Jackson is a guy who got us here where
he We're gonna warm him up, We're gonna get something
going and we're gonna win this game. And maybe you
try to make some adjustments. Who was at the right decision.
I can't tell you because I can't guarantee what Joe
Flacco would have done. Look Like, if he was playing
at that m v P level, he would have never
lost his starting job to begin with. If you remember,
Joe Flacco wasn't all that good at quarterback down the stretch.

(01:42:11):
And by the way, how many snaps do backup quarterbacks
really take, you know, during the week in the NFL.
I'm not saying I don't know how many snaps to
have got early on in their Bowl preparation. I think
this was something that Nick Saban, if I'm not mistaken,
kept in the back of his mind about making a change.
I don't know how the practice snaps were split, but
I would tell you Joe Flacco probably took one out
of every ten snaps if that, because Lamar Jackson was

(01:42:32):
fast tracked to it. So he figured go with the kid.
And remember, too, you take out Lamar Jackson and I
get it, You're just trying to win a football game.
I really think John Harball thought if Joe Flacco gave
him that chance. And remember, there's been nobody more loyal
to Joe Flacco than John Harbaugh. He stuck with this
guy through thick and thin for what twelve seasons in
the NFL eleven seasons since he was drafted in two
thousand and seven. That ship has sale man. Joe Flacco

(01:42:54):
was gone. It was Lamar Jackson's chance to get it done.
Couldn't do it. Got in there close at the end,
but I just couldn't get it done. All right, Let's
so let's talk about that game a little bit. Philip Rivers.
The Chargers get out I think it was twenty three
to three. Uh, seemed to have complete control of the game.
They're stopping Lamar Jackson. Can't do anything really at all.
I mean, had negative passing yardage, I think as the

(01:43:14):
fourth quarter began, I made the argument earlier in this
show that Lamar Jackson in eighteen reminds me a lot
of Tim Tebow in two thousand eleven. And the argument
I'm making there is that Tebow found ways to win
games because he had a great defense, because uh, he
was I don't think undeniably a Heisman Trophy winning leader.

(01:43:34):
But ultimately what he was doing was not replicatable over
and over and over again, it seems to me. And
then remember we had the Tebow game. He won the
playoff game against the Steelers in overtime hit to Marius
Thomas on that crossing slant route he took to the house.
And then he went up against the Patriots, and the
Patriots and Bill Belichick just undressed him. I mean, it
was it was a disastrous performance. Right, Lamar Jackson didn't

(01:43:57):
even win a playoff game. Is that in your mind?
And on fair comparison to say Lamar Jackson is equal
to Temp Tebow in two thousand eleven, No, it's not.
It really isn't. I mean, look, because you put in
a gimmick style offense, and that's really what this was.
What it did was look for it covered up for
what Lamar Jackson isn't right now, and that's a bona
fide pocket passing quarterback play. He he does one read

(01:44:19):
maybe too, you know, on a play he didn't. There's
there's no progressions with Lamar Jackson. He's just not at
that point. He's a raw quarterback who was thrust into
action and the Ravens did the best they could. So
they put in this crazy offensive system that featured a
lot of runs, a lot of weird things that teams
hadn't seen before. And to their credit, the charges completely adjusted.
They took their linebackers off the field today play that

(01:44:41):
was it. They were gone. They used seven defensive backs
for most of the game. They brought to Leila Dayah
safety down had him play linebacker. They wanted more speed
on the field to be able to account for what
the Ravens were doing, and they they outclassed them on
that side of the football. Is a great defensive game
plan by Gus Bradley. And the question now becomes what
can what is Lamar Jackson's upside? Ultimately, can he make

(01:45:01):
enough plays as a passer so that he's not just
limited to being a running type quarterback because teams are
gonna look at that film of the race, you know
what the Chargers did to the Ravens, and they're gonna
find ways to defuse this offense in the off season.
So what's next for Lamar Jackson? Does he grow as
a quarterback? Is he the type of guy that can
handle a regular style offense when it comes to the
passing game that can effectively lead to come back or

(01:45:22):
is he going to be just have a limited shelf
life and just be, you know, like you say, a
Tim Tebow. I think that's a big question for the
Baltimore Ravens. It's an excellent question, I think in a
big debate, we're talking about Lamar Jackson, Tim Tebow of
all people who I saw by the way I'm doing
the show, you know this as we get ready for
the National title game tonight out in California. I'm in

(01:45:43):
uh San Jose today, and over the weekend, I saw
Tim Tebow here at the ESPN party. He's out here
covering the National Title game. So maybe that was why
that was front of mind as I sit around and
watched Lamar Jackson yesterday on Sunday in the early game.
All Right, let's go to the Saturday games. UH four
wild Card games. Talking with Alex Marvez um Andrew Luck
I thought was the best quarterback of wild Card weekend.

(01:46:05):
He had the one tip ball interception. Otherwise, this was
a dominant performance I thought by the Colts. Did you
agree with that? And do you think that the Kansas
City chief should be nervous? And also on top of that,
Toshaun Watson, what do we think going forward with the
Texans based on what we saw in this game? I
guess Andrew's arm is okay? Right, yeah, I think he's
free healed. I guess, okay, We're pretty good with that

(01:46:26):
right now, very very good. You know it's crazy too,
is that, you know, sixty seven point three of Indianapolis's
active roster for that game. I'm a forty six guys,
thirty one of them were playing in their first playoff game.
That's amazing. I saw that stat. And the teams just
turn over so fast in the NFL. Outside of like
quarterback and kicker, nobody has any longevity, right, I mean,

(01:46:46):
and look, you know what the thing with Andrew like,
and it was a brilliant game played by Frank Wright. Right,
you know you move the guy around, you know, so
so he's not a sitting duck target. And then even
when he was in the pocket, the offensive line generally
gave him enough time to throw. Yeah, there were a
couple of tip passes and some pressures, but you know,
Luck is just I mean, and you know, he's responsible
for like one bad turnover a game. I think, you know,

(01:47:06):
he's still at that point that he hasn't eliminated that.
But almost every game that Andrew Luck plays, he's gonna
do something that's gonna cost his team. And it did happen.
You know, he did have that turnover yesterday, that interception
on the tip pass. But you know, quite honestly, they
just had them. You know, they had the Texans on
the ropes. And the other thing about it is, we
can talk to Andrew Luck all day, but what about
Marlon Mack talking about a guy who scored a touchdown

(01:47:27):
in five straight games. We're talking about someone who has
spearheaded a two yard rushing effort. So if you're not
a one dimensional team anymore, oh man, it opens things
up for Andrew Luked like crazy. And yeah, I think
the Kansas City Chiefs should be concerned because They're not
so good on the defensive side of the football. Yes,
they had fifty two sacks during the regular season, was
tied with Pittsburgh for the most in the NFL. But

(01:47:48):
their thirty first in the NFL in yards allowed, thirty
second and first downs allowed, twenty second in passing touchdowns allowed,
thirty first in rushing average allowed, and twenty seven in
rushing yards. This is not a good team and looks
like a shootout type of situation to me. And I
looked at the weather. I had to clay, it's gonna
be fine in Kansas City. Temperatures actually projected to be
in the forties and clear, so not going to be

(01:48:09):
a big weather situation there, which for the coltson indoor
team is absolutely a great situation. I will say this,
this is now going to be their third straight game
on the road, and it's not like they've had a
lot of time to recover. In fact, you think about
a Sunday night game and then coming back to play
on a Saturday, you wonder if fatigue starts to set
in a little bit. They're playing great football. Look to me,
Deshaun Watson, his mechanics were terrible and that's got to
be the focus of the Texans in the off season.

(01:48:31):
When he needed to make a clutch throw, the ball
was bouncing, the ball was out, he just looked bad.
And I don't know if that's the that's the effect
of being sacked sixty times, entering this game and playing
part of the season with a collapse along and those
types of things, and it just finally all caught up
with him. They have to address that offensive line. Oh
and by the way, you need to get some new
cornerbacks as well, because clearly the Colts wide receivers just

(01:48:52):
so much faster in that secondary. And it wasn't just
t Y Hilton, it was basically everybody was just faster
than Kareem Jackson and Jonathan Joseph. Yeah, it was in
drinking all right. The other game, obviously to Jerry Jones
credit Cowboys lose Monday Night Football Tennessee Titans. Sitting at
three and five, He goes on the radio and says, oh, yeah,
Dak is definitely going to get extended. And everybody rolls
their eyes and says, Jerry Jones has lost it. What

(01:49:13):
in the world is he thinking now that Dak Prescott
has won a playoff game still a young guy twenty
five years old. Is Dak Prescott going to get that
big hundred million dollar contract? And what did you see
from the Seahawks in terms of their game plan? You
have a ferrari I believe in Russell Wilson. The number
of times that they handed the ball off on first

(01:49:34):
and second down and put him into third and long
passing situations drove me insane. I can't imagine being a
Seahawks fan. And haven't watched that, by the way, two
oft on third down class because they're called third and
long after they couldn't put the ball on first and
second down exactly, you know, And now everyone wants to
lynch Brian Schottenheimer, right and after he did such a
good job getting that running game going. I mean, yeah,

(01:49:55):
you're right. I mean, look, they gained seventy three yards
on twenty four Kerry's aginst the Dallas Cowboys, and after
a while you get to stop bang in your head
against the wall, and they finally did start to throw
in the second half. I've at that point the Seahawks
are playing from behind too little and too late, I mean,
so that that's where that was at. And yeah, I
mean look, Russell Wilson was dropping dimes. It was a
bad game plan by Brian Schottenheimer. And you know, the

(01:50:16):
Seahawks lose and asked for Dak Prescott. This is a
little bit of a tricky one play because you know
he the Cowboys have mechanisms themselves to be able to
keep Dak Prescott in the fold at certain types of salaries.
For example, Dak now and ending and start NFL season
next year's the final year of his rookie contract. You know,
if his acting prices is prohibited, well then the Cowboys
just say, okay, well we'll play for one point two

(01:50:36):
million dollars or you know that whatever it is, it's
a real nominal base salary. So I think it has
to be realistic. Does he become the highest paid quarterback
in NFL history? Probably not, But does he make thirty
million dollars a year? Probably? So I would think that
might be the sweet spot to be able to get
this done because it allows the Cowboys to go back
in scratch that final year off of his rookie contractor
you can even start the deal in and just add

(01:50:59):
something up agains signing bonus money to it. But get
this deal done, get him wrapped up. The guy's worth it.
It's you know, and looks Zeke Elliott. Now, now this
is the one that's so interesting to me, more so
than Doc. Do you keep Zeke? Do you realize that
you think, Okay, Todd Gurley the Ramps where he signed
him after three years, they believe he's gonna be great
for years to come. Do you think Zeke Kelly and
his physical rushing style, he's gonna remain healthy, he's gonna

(01:51:20):
remain productive, and you're gonna pay him Todd Gurley type
money as a running back in the league that doesn't
really value the position. This is a big offseason question
for the Cowboys, especially with the Marcus Lawrence coming up
for free agency and Amrii Cooper not too far away
from free agency himself. Last question for you, now that
you look ahead to the Divisional round games Colts, Chief's,
Cowboys Rams are on Saturday, Chargers, Patriots, Eagles, Saints, is

(01:51:43):
there any game or any part I know it's early
because we just had the games happened yesterday to get
all these games set, but is there anyone that jumps
out to you and you think, boy, that's gonna be
a big upset or I particularly like one team or
another in these matchups. I like the Chargers. I just
I'm just getting looking at this team and I think
they have the best chance of beating New England and
any we've seen in a long time come in the

(01:52:04):
second round of the playoffs in Foxborough. And by the way,
as we know, the Patriots haven't lost the first round
playoff game in Foxboro since the New York Jets upset
him back in But this this Charger's team, by the sanchise,
it's amazing they've only lost. The Chargers lost one. That
was Mark Sanchez, right, that was you're correct about that,
and that was it. That was it for Mark Sanchez, right.

(01:52:26):
That was just one moment in time beside the butt fumble.
But you know, when it comes to Chargers and Patriots,
you know, this Chargers team there there there if they've
won every game on the road except for when they
played their crosstown rival to Los Angeles Rams, So when
they board a plane, good things happening. This Patriots team won't.
Quite Honestly, they're vulnerable. I mean, they're just not a
great team. Look, I don't know if they're gonna be
able to get the running game going. I don't know

(01:52:47):
if Tom Brady is gonna be able to weather the
storm against this type of defense. Chargers to me just
looked like a hot team. It looks so wide open
right now. This is the most wide open season that
I've had, because Philadelphia has read hot. Obviously going to
New Orleans, would anyone be octave Dallas beat the Ramps.
Not really, And the same thing with the Colts in
the Chiefs because the Chiefs have had that that history
of failing in the postseason, you know, playing at Arrowhead Stadium.

(01:53:09):
They haven't won a home playoff game since we know
about Andy Reid and his postseason record. No bueno, I mean, Clay,
this is gonna be so much fun to watch the
second round of the second round of a weekend of
the playoffs. I mean it, it's just again, more wide
open than I've ever seen it. Alex Marvez, You're always outstanding.
Have a good Monday. We'll talk to you next week
after the divisional round of the playoffs and see who's

(01:53:29):

playoff action saw on the NFC side, the Eagles hold
off the Bears for his sixteen fifteen win in Philadelphia.
Quarterback Nicholes engineered the last minute drive, capped by a
two yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Golden Tate on
fourth down with fifties six sex to play. Then the
Bears had a chance to win the game with ten
seconds left, forty three yard field goal attempt from Cody
Parkey hit the upright. The Eagles advanced face the Saints

beat the Ravens in Baltimore seventeen. Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson
was held at just twenty five yards passing from the
first three quarters had a couple of late touchdowns, but
he was also forced into an interception and a fumble

to Patriots in Foxborough. Next Sunday, we'll be back down.

All Right, I'm gonna be on walk it in later today,

(01:56:06):
getting ready near Levi Stadium where the forty Niners play.
Um I won the week gambling wise, had a lot
of great gambling wins. Gave him out to you last
weekend for the last Friday. He headed into the weekend
for the wild card games. Let me tell you what
I'm betting tonight for Alabama against Clemson. First of all,
I like Alabama win this game. Out right line is

(01:56:28):
down to about five and a half. I like Alabama
under a touchdown. I like him at five and a half.
I hope the number continues to come down throughout the
course of the day. I'm on the tide. I think
they win by ten or more points. All right, that's one.
I also think Alabama right now thirty two is their
overall team total. I think Alabama will score thirty five

(01:56:49):
or more would not shock me if they score forty.
I love Alabama on the over point total wise in
this game as well. And if you want to bet
a third different thing, I actually like the over in
this game overall. Um, I think there's a good chance
Bama goes for forty or more. Like I said, I
think Clemson will score twenty four or eight. I think

(01:57:09):
his final score of something like forty two to thirty
one would not surprise me. I think there's gonna be
a lot of points scored in this game. I think
there will be a lot of downfield passing, and I
think that will lead to a lot of big plays
in both directions, and so I like Bama something like
forty two to twenty eight in this game. So I
like the over. I like Bama. I like the over

(01:57:30):
on the Bama team total. I'll be giving those picks
out to you. Unlock it in four thirty Eastern, three
thirty Central to thirty Mountain one thirty Pacific. Encourage you
guys to check that out and uh and watch the
show if you haven't already. We have a lot of
fun there, Jason Martin, I know you're not as big
of a gambler as I am. Jason Martin been sitting
in with us here on this Monday. He will be
with us again tomorrow. And by the way, if you're

(01:57:52):
a college football fan Alabama Clemson, can't wait. We'll have
Joel Klatt with us. We'll have a lot of a
cool breakdown of the final game of the college football
season going on between Alabama Clemson on our Tuesday morning show.
So if you love college football, will be all in
breaking down those games for you on Tuesday. But Jason Martin,

(01:58:12):
what do you think and what do you expect in
this game tonight? When you put out the score, I
kind of rolled my eyes because I really enjoyed disagreeing
with you. Uh, and I can't. I had forty one,
and that's where I'm at, and that's I feel like
it's a ten point game. It could be more, it
could be one. I don't think Clemson is gonna play bad.
I just think Alabama's gonna play up to Alabama's potential.

(01:58:33):
The worst thing could have happened to Clemson is that
second half against Oklahoma by the Alabama just kind of
took their foot off the gas. It's that you never
really felt threatened that Oklahoma was gonna win the game.
But if there was a letdown moment, Clemson would have
hoped it would have come at some point against them,
not against Oklahoma, because I'm sure Saban had plenty to
say about the discipline and some of the very Unalabama

(01:58:53):
things that we saw in the latter stages of that game,
and it started the least discipline Alabama perform it says
I've ever seen. Now. A lot of that got snowed
under because they got up twenty eight nothing and never
really felt like Alabama was gonna lose that game. They
had a double digit lead throughout, but they made a
lot of bad plays A lot of plays that had
to drive Nick Saban crazy. Yeah, and they lost care posure,

(01:59:14):
which is something that you don't see either, and you
just it seems impossible to believe that after that performance,
they're not gonna be fully dialed in now and that
their discipline is going to be the opposite, and they're
gonna be out there playing the brand of football you
expect a Nick Saban team to play. So I think
that is what spells Curtains more so than anything for Clemson.

(01:59:35):
But I think it's gonna be a fantastic game. Trevor
Lawrence is gonna make plays. T higginses whiteouts are gonna
make plays. There's gonna be moments where you just see
flashes of brilliance wearing both uniforms all night long. This
is the game any football fan should be just salivating
to try and see. I can't wait until it kicks
off tonight. If it goes the other way, I would

(01:59:56):
not be shocked. But I'm going with Saban to break
that record and for us to be leading off tomorrow
talking about Nick Saban the same way we have after
title games for the last two years. You know what's
intriguing to about this is I feel like people get
jaded by the excitement level. We've got to fourteen and
oh teams play and you're not gonna get to watch
another college football game for nine months. So if you

(02:00:19):
like football, look, we got four games left Divisional Round,
We've got the a f C in the NFC champ
There's like eight games left. Right, I'm just killing the
Pro Bowl, and you're gonna be begging for football for
the rest of the you know, the long summer and
everything else spring. Take advantage of this game tonight, have
some fun, watch it, and then come hang out with
us tomorrow morning, as many of you always do, six

(02:00:41):
to nine am Eastern, three to six am Pacific. We'll
be hanging with you breaking down everything that happened in
that great, hopefully, hopefully what will be a great game
tonight again between Alabama and Clemson. This has been alkay
the coverage live from San Jose, California. Can join the
game with us tonight. We'll be with you tomorrow morning,
