All right, we have got a pretty big game going

(01:06):
on tonight as the NFL returns and we get ready
for Game twelve. For everybody of the NFL season, the
new Orleans Saints going on the road against the Dallas Cowboys. Now,
the Saints so far have been the best team in
the NFL. Their number one on the OutKick Power rankings.
They have won ten games in a row. They play

(01:27):
on the road against the Cowboys this weekend. Drew Brees
right now is setting an all time record for both
completion percentage and overall qb R. He's UH at one
twenty seven point three on the QBR, which would be
an all time record. Patrick Mahomes, by the way, in
the second spot there. Uh, and also UH, he's got

(01:48):
an all time record working for completion percentage. He is
having an out of this world performance. So for many
people out there, the question is, and myself included is
Drew He's going to be able to lock up home
court advantage for home court home field advantage for the
New Orleans Saints as we come down this stretch. And

(02:10):
this is relatively speaking, a somewhat difficult game for the
Saints compared to what they have left on the schedule
the rest of the way. Let me explain, UH, the
Saints final five. They go on the road tonight against
the Cowboys. Win that game, they get to eleven and one.
Then they have the Bucks on the road. You feel
like there's a very good chance that the Saints will

(02:31):
get revenge for their loss in Week one. It's hard
to remember now, but the Saints lost forty eight to
forty in Week one. Then they go on the road
against the Panthers. That will be a must win game
for the Panthers, who have now dropped three games in
a row. UH. They then host the Steelers, which will
be an epic game UH the couple of days before Christmas,

(02:52):
and then they finished with the Panthers back at home.
So as you break down this schedule, they have three
straight road games. This is a pretty big deal for
the New Orleans Saints because if they win this one
and their favored to do it, they'll be eleven and one. UH.
They will have just four games left, and you'll start

(03:13):
to look at this and be able to count, Hey,
what are they gonna need to do to make sure
that they have home field advantage the rest of the
way in the playoffs. In the meantime, the Dallas Cowboys
on this show and elsewhere were left for dead when
the Titans came into town on Monday Night Football and
beat the Cowboys by two touchdowns. The expectation was the

(03:35):
next week the Cowboys would give up the football ghosts,
that they would go on the road, lose to the Eagles, UH,
and then probably lose on the road against the Falcons. Instead,
the Cowboys have since won three games in a row
and they are sitting right now at six and five,
and they're in first place in the NFC East. But

(03:56):
here is the challenge that the Cowboys face. As as
good as things have gone in the last three weeks
for the Cowboys, if they lose tonight, and I think
they will to the Saints, they dropped to six and six,
the Eagles then potentially could be coming to town in
Dallas the next week tied up with the Cowboys with

(04:16):
a chance to win this division. Then the Cowboys to
finish out their season have to go on the road
against the Colts UH, and they have to go on
the road against the Giants. This is I think where
the Cowboys season could be made. The next three weeks
basically will decide what's gonna happen with the Cowboys. They

(04:36):
need to go two and one, They need to avoid
desperately going oh in three. I think there's a decent
chance they go one and two. I think the Cowboys
are likely to lose tonight. I think they could bounce
back and beat the Eagles, but I think they lose
on the road against the Colts. All of that being said,
this is a big Thursday night football game. The other

(04:57):
aspect of this game that I think is significant and
all so why I believe it's gonna be a really
good game is, guess what. The Cowboys and the Saints
have both had a full week to get ready for
this Thursday night football game. That is, they both played
on Thanksgiving and so now they're returning. We saw them

(05:18):
when we saw the Cowboys beat down the Washington Redskins,
and we saw the Saints kind of just survive against
the Falcons. So this is going to be a massive
game tonight that I am excited to to check out
and UH and break down for you tomorrow morning in
UH in our one. On top of that, that's what

(05:38):
I would say is the number one story as we
move into the Thursday realm of of sports. The other
story that I would say is continuing to kind of
emanate out there is the college football playoff rankings, and
yesterday we spent a lot of time talking about this,
and I think I'm gonna put out a poll question
about this. I am genuinely serious what you guys would

(06:02):
say about the college football playoff picture. There are six
teams alive. I broke down and continue to break down
everything that needs to be done in order for every
team to be able to advance to the college football playoff.
Tomorrow we'll talk with Joel Klatt. I'll probably drive him
insane about about everything surrounding this issue. An hour two

(06:23):
will actually talk with Barrett Sally from CBS Sports and
will break down some of the college football universe. In
our three, we will talk with Britt mckenry, who is
starting a new gig. She's gonna join us. She scheduled
to join us. I say she's scheduled to join us,
because it's not uncommon for Britt to be scheduled to
be on the show and then to not answer her

(06:44):
phone when we call her to come on the show.
So scheduled, Britt mckenry is scheduled to join us. An
hour three. But as you look at this college football
playoff picture, there's been a lot of momentum. We talked
yesterday on the show with Dan lets all about this
idea of having an eight team college football playoff. I
think there is a growing consensus that eight is the

(07:06):
right number. But will this year helped to advance the
cause of an eight team playoff or not? If you
were out there and you love college football, you guys
remember yesterday I was talking about how I was watching
the h L s U Texas A and M game
with my ten year old and how he was in
disbelief that there had ever been a point in time

(07:29):
when there was uh possibility of games ending in ties
and when the end of the season was complete and
multiple teams would compete for championships based on how they
finished in poll rankings, which is which is wild now
to think about. But if you want there to be
eight teams in the playoff as opposed to four, everything

(07:51):
has certainly gotten better in the last decade or so
with college football. What do you want to have happened?
I would say you want the Armageddon like scenario to occur,
which would require I think six teams having legitimate claims
to make the college football Playoff and everybody being upset
that only four teams could advance. What would that require.

(08:15):
I think that would require a couple of upsets. But
here's what you would need to root for. You would
need to root for Alabama to lose to Georgia. That
would get Georgia to twelve and one. It would keep
Alabama at twelve and one. You would need to root
for Clemson to lose to Pittsburgh, which would drop Clemson
to twelve and one. And you would then want for

(08:36):
Oklahoma to win and beat Texas and also for Ohio
State to win and beat Northwestern. Then you would have
in this scenario, five different teams that are twelve and one.
You would have twelve and one, Alabama twelve and one,
Georgia twelve and one, Clemson twelve and one, Oklahoma twelve

(08:58):
and one Ohio State, and would have twelve and oh
Notre Dame playing one less game than everybody else. So
you would have six teams with a claim for four spots,
and no matter which four teams you picked, there would
be a lot of angry people out there across the
college football landscape. And as we talked with Dan Wetzel

(09:18):
yesterday and pointed out, the College Football Playoff Committee, the
selection Committee has actually established how perfectly an eight team
playoff would look if we were already finished with the
regular season right now. We would have number one Alabama
against number eight UCF. We would have number two Clemson

(09:39):
going up against number seven Michigan. We would have number
three Notre Dame going up against number six Ohio State.
Number four. We would have in the four spot Georgia
hosting a game against our current number five Oklahoma. All
four of those games could take place on campus, meaning

(10:00):
would have home games for the fans of Alabama, for
the fans of Clemson, Notre Dame, and Georgia. There's nobody
out there right now who is a college football fan
that wouldn't be in love with that resolution of the season. Instead,
we've got the college Football Playoff, which really kind of

(10:20):
effectively starts with a bunch of crappy conference title games.
I'm gonna be down watching Georgia and Alabama play, but
we already know that Alabama is in the college football
Playoff now, So as a result, we're talking about a
pretty ridiculous series of games which don't matter very much
in the grand scheme of things. So as we roll

(10:40):
into UH two, our one, here, we'll be joined with
Drew Martin with some gambling picks at the end of
the hour. But I'm gonna bring in the crew. I'm
also gonna open up the phone lines eight seven seven nine,
six three six nine. If you want to react to
the Saints, if you want to react to the Cowboys tonight,
which is the big story of the evening as we
get ready for this art of the twelfth game of

(11:01):
the NFL season, Thursday Night Football a good one going
on tonight. You're welcome to do that. If you want
to react to the college football playoff and share your feelings.
Are you of the belief that we should have a
four and eight or maybe even a sixteen team playoff?
I am a believer in an eight team playoff. You
can weigh in there as well. In the meantime, everybody's

(11:22):
got it to do. List drop off the dry cleaning,
pick up some milk. Here's an idea. Let's add save
hundreds of dollars on car insurance. And the good thing
is you don't have to drop off or pick up anything.
All you have to do is go to Geico dot
com and in fifteen minutes you could be saving fient
or more on car insurance. Extra money in your pocket.
It just maybe the most rewarding to do you do today.

(12:29):
Let me go ahead and see if the phones are
working dub I have been instructed that the phones are
now working flawlessly. Would you agree that that is going
to be the case. The phones are back and better
than ever. We're ready to roll, alright, Let's see whether
or not that's the case. I'm taking some of your calls.
Eight seven seven six three six nine, Kevin in Indiana.

(12:49):
What you got for me? Yes, thanks for taking the call.
Under your eight team format, Uh, would the first round
losers get to go to a bowl game? That was
my question? Thanks? So, yeah, I don't I don't think so.
I mean, I guess you could allow the first round
loser to go to a ball bowl game. Why would
you want to go to a bowl game? If you

(13:10):
made an eight game playoff? If you lost, let's say
in mid December, do you really care about going to
a game after that? Maybe you would. I tend to
think that everybody would be ready to go ahead and
leave and get ready for Christmas. I think that's one
of the better things about this system, would be, Hey, yeah,
it stinks to lose in mid December, but you don't

(13:32):
have to go play in a go bowl game in
two weeks later. I also think it would be hard
for a scheduling perspective to adjust the bowls after they
were already set. So I think the answer is is no.
Ed down in Key West, Florida, I'm jealous of the weather.
What's up at a UM if your team doesn't have
a legitimate claim to being in a two team national

(13:54):
title game. Then they have no business bitching about not
being in the playoffs. A four team playoffs, Fine, we
expanded the four because there always seems to be a
third team that had a claim to a championship game,
not that even the fourth team should be there. So
expanding it to eight is just letting people who would

(14:14):
whine about being the best has been into a playoff that. Yeah,
I don't. I don't think I I understand that argument.
The number nine team in college football right now is
in your state. It's the University of Florida. Ed. Do
you think even Florida Gator fans are arguing this year
they should be able to play for a national championship

(14:34):
based on their nine in three season? No? Right, so,
but I do think. But they may claim, but they
may whind about not being in a playoff, but I
have to get hot and claim a national I disagree
with you. I don't think there is a single Florida
Gator fan listening to us on this show right now
who believes that Florida would win three straight games in
the playoff and win a national championship. Thanks for the call.

(14:57):
I don't agree with that. Yes, sometimes times it's a story.
We have a sixty eight team playoff now in the
n C Double A Tournament, And what's the first thing
that people talk about when the n C Double A
Tournament brackets come out? Oh my god, who are the
two or three teams that didn't make it that were
left on the outside looking in? And do you know

(15:18):
how long? That's a story? For like two hours? And
then people are like, you know what, if you weren't
good enough to be in the top sixty eight, you're
probably not that harmed by the overall selection process of
college basketball, which is why that story lasts for like
two hours because people need something to talk about open
phone lines. Is there a single Florida Gator fan in

(15:40):
the nation right now who wants to call in and
argue that Felipe A. Frank's if he were leading the
Florida Gators into the playoff, that you believe he would
win three stray games and Florida deserves a chance to
play for the national championship based on their nine in
three season this year, based on losing at home by

(16:01):
twenty to Missouri, based on barely getting past South Carolina,
based on getting dominated by Georgia, based on losing at
home to Kentucky. There's a plenty that I saw as
a Florida Gator fan that made me think, hey, we'll
go win the National Championship if we were in it
this year. I don't think there's a single Florida Gator

(16:21):
fan who would make that make that argument. Josh, Sorry,
Joe and Norfolk, Virginia, Joe, what's up? Take good morning?
Thanks for taking my call. Look, man, and so I'm biased,
but uh, I thought a few days ago, the coming
into the night that was gonna be a great game.
I think now, after the Dallas defense has been running

(16:41):
his mouth and talking trash about how the Saints haven't
seen a team like that, I think Breeze is gonna
come in and just destroy them. I mean, you know,
folks are bear man. Yeah, I think that's insanely and
thanks for the call. I think that's insanely stupid of
the Saints as well. I mean of the Cowboys as well.
When you've got the best team in the NFL, and
I think it's fair to say right now that the
Saints are the best team in the NFL coming into

(17:04):
your building, the last thing to me that you want
to do is antagonized the New Orleans Saints. If you
are the Dallas Cowboys, you don't draw attention to the
fact that you think you're going to beat them because
your defense is stellar and because you think with the
Mari Cooper that everything has changed for the Dallas Cowboys.

(17:24):
By the way, are we not praising Jerry Jones enough
for having the stones to make that move for a
Marie Cooper. That may well be the difference between the
Dallas Cowboys going six and ten and going maybe maybe
maybe it could happen ten and six, nine and seven,
and winning the NFC East. The decision to go get

(17:47):
a Marie Cooper wouldn't stun me at all. If tomorrow
morning we come in and we say, boy, I didn't
expect it, But the Dallas Cowboys pulled off an upset,
and the reason why they did it was a Mari Cooper.
In fact, if I were going to argue for a
player who would come in. I don't think against that
rush defense of the New Orleans Saints. I think the
Saints have the number one rush defense in the NFL.

(18:09):
I don't think Ezekiel Elliott's gonna be eating a lot.
I don't think he's gonna be doing that spoon and
later move. I don't think he's a go he jumping
in the Salvation Army bell down there in the end zone.
I think the playmaker is going to have to be
Dak Prescott through Marii Cooper if the Cowboys are gonna
keep pace with the Saints and pull off the upset.

(18:30):
Eight seven, six nine. Tommy in Kentucky, what's up? Tommy
Moran Clay loved the show. Um, I think an eight
team playoff situation would be awesome. I think we if
we did, you know, all the games like during one weekend,
that would just be an awesome weekend of college football.

(18:52):
And the way it's uh set up right now, I
would love to see Alabama play you see if just
mainly because you know, you see it has been really
good and I would love to see how they would
hold up against top dog rock Alabama. Yeah, I think
there's a lot of people. Yeah, I think there's a
lot of people whould agree with you. One of the

(19:14):
great things about the college basketball Tournament is the concept
of Cinderella. Loyola of Chicago went on a run, went
all the way to the Final four, eventually lost to
Michigan sister what was their name, Sister Jean, Sister Jean.
There are all the storylines a team that you don't
anticipate making a run. You'd get to see that every
now and then in college football, and I think fans

(19:34):
would respond well to it. I also think everybody would
love the idea of getting four on campus games. I
think it makes the regular season more significant because it
would allow you to know that if you won, just
like in the NFL. What do we talk about down
the stretch in the NFL, Well, we talk about for
the purposes of the Saints game tonight, this is big
for New Orleans, not because they need to win to

(19:56):
make the playoff, but because if they lose, their fall
a little bit out of pace of being able to
have home field and be able to play every game
in the super Dome. And we think that matters substantially.
What are we talk about in the a f C.
If you can't get New England out of Foxborough, the
odds of you advancing to the Super Bowl no matter

(20:16):
who your team is low. We talked about how important
home field is all the time in the NFL. Is
there really any difference right now? When the teams are
seated one to four in whether you are one to
three or four. If Alabama plays Oklahoma, does that really
matter whether one is the one and the other is

(20:37):
a four. If Notre Dame is playing Clemson, does it
matter who's the two and who's the three? Not at all?
If you got to play at home, that would be
a tremendous difference. Larry in Alabama, what's up, Larry? Play?
How excellent? How are you all right? I think that
that's what your Your idea is perfect. On the thing

(20:59):
I just views you on is uh, I think that
SEC championship it do mean something. I don't think getting
hing to do with the playoffs, But I just feel
like that, you know, if Alabama must say they want
to lose to Georgia and Georgia getting the playoffs, and uh,
both of them make the playoffs and they play against
each other again in the championship game and Alabama beats them,

(21:22):
then the Georgia can easy just say, well, we beat
you'all in the SEC championship, and I think they would
have an argument about that. And another thing is I
gotta say I'm gonna say quickly, uh, I think that
number one seed. If Alabama will be the number one
season they had to play, he's the Oklahoma Ohio State,
which I think they can beat both of them. But
I just feel like the easy out gonna be Notre Dame.

(21:44):
I don't think, David. I mean, I just don't. I mean,
I'm not in press time. And look at the Lands game.
They said against USC, UFC had three unforced turnovers and
they still had a chance to beat Notre Dame. We're
talking about the five and six. I mean, I don't
see anything. The most impressive win in the hell was
the first game. And I don't think Michian was. He

(22:06):
might as good as they now and you see what
Ohio State, yeah, last week. Now, look it's I think
that there is zero doubt to me that if you
gave Nick Saban truth serum and you said, okay, you
get to pick your opponent. The choices are let's say

(22:26):
that everybody we expect to win wins, or even let's
just say that everybody who's in the running. Let's say,
Nick Saban, you get to play in the first round
against one of these five teams, which one would you pick?
Notre Dame, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia or Ohio State. I think
there is zero doubt that Nick Saban would pick Notre Dame.

(22:50):
I think he would do it instantaneously. I don't think
he would even think twice about it, because I think
Ian book and that Notre Dame pro style offense is
the best possible matchup for Nick Saban to prepare for.
In fact, we saw a few years ago what Nick
Saban with ample time to prepare for looked like when

(23:10):
he went up against Notre Dame. I believe the Crimson Tide,
if I'm not mistaken, got up thirty five nothing in
that game, and it was a laugher. The biggest story
that came out of Alabama Notre Dame was a J.
McCarron's girlfriend being put on television and becoming a star
and people getting upset at Brent Musburger because he talked
about how good looking she was. That was the biggest

(23:31):
story that came out of Alabama. Notre Dame playing for
a national championship down in I believe it was. Where
was that Miami? I think that game was in Miami.
I can't even remember exactly. I'm pretty sure yeah it
was Miami, So yeah, that's who Nick Saban would pick.
Zeroed out at all. That that is the choice that
Nick Saban would make. Got a bunch of calls to

(23:52):
get to eight seven seven, nine, six three six nine.
But first let me get an update from Eddie Garcia. Alright,
let's start with our Geico scoreboard busy nine in the
NBA check ins and Games of note, the Clippers beat
the Sons one fifteen to ninety nine. Clippers are right
now the top team in the Western Conference at fourteen
and six on the their percentage points up on Golden State.
Thunder beat the Cavaliers on eighty three. Russell Westbrook. It's

(24:13):
his one seventh career triple double and twenty three points,
nineteen rebounds, fifteen assists. He signed for third all time
in triple doubles with Jason Kidd. The Jazz beat the
Nets one oh one to nine one. Mavericks over the
Rockets in Houston one o eight despite a triple double
from James Harden points eleven rebounds at seventeen assists, and
Damian Lillard goes for forty one points. In the Trail
Players over the Magic one fifteen to one twelve. The

(24:35):
Bucks were hosting the Bulls. That brings us to our
Geico Play of the Day family for the rebound tipt
out taken. This is Middleton six seconds to play shot
good top of the key. That's a three one six bucks,
five seconds to go in the game called the Bucks
Radio Network. That was the game winning shot from Chris

(24:55):
Middleton won thirteen bucks over the Bulls. You need to
make good choices and with True Car you've got a
star on your roster. So when you're ready to sell
or trade in your car, check out True Car. True
Car offer is not available in all areas. Now about
to Clay Dravis in the Guico OutKick the coverage studios
outstanding as always, Trevette Garcia right there, let me continue
to roll through the calls. We are off and rolling

(25:19):
here on the morning Thursday, getting ready for the Dallas
Cowboys hosting the New Orleans Saints. Also talking about the
upcoming college football title games, title and quotation marks because
a lot of them are really unnecessary to determine who
should win the title. John and Phoenix, what you got
for me? I've told him about the college football playoff,
But just real quick about Jerry Jones, Like during the
draft he was getting killed when you get interest Calvin

(25:41):
Ridley only the vand Arresta ends up being a star,
not getting enough credit for that, and then getting a
Mari he got killed for that and all of a
sudden playing hanging off and stage which is off. So
but I agree with you. I think Jerry Jones's balls
out moved to go get a Marie Cooper and give
up a first round for pick for him looks like
genius so far this year, and I don't think Jerry

(26:02):
Jones get enough credit now. It could be the number
one story coming out of this game. But regardless of
how Marie Cooper plays tonight, he's been so good since
they went and got him that I think we have
undersold the value that that Jerry Jones got. I also think, honestly,
we've under criticized John Gruden for trading Khalil Mack, who

(26:23):
may be the defensive m v P, and for trading
Amari Cooper who may well be the offensive m v
P from the purposes of a trade being made. It's
it's pretty wide, be honest with John Gruden. He should
honestly get Coaches of the Year consideration because he actually
put the Bears in the playoffs, and he may put
the Cowboys in the playoffs off, so that's kind and
he kills It's a very strong argument in in the process,

(26:44):
Yeah what you got for me? What else did we
lose him? I feel like he was gonna make a
good point. That was a solid beginning to the call
for John and Phoenix. Yeah, we just lost him. He
can call back read in Georgia, what's up? Read Uh.
I wanted to talk about Aaron rodd years and all
the excuses made for him this year, and I want
to try to compare him to somebody like think about

(27:06):
Drew Brees when he went through those three, seven and
nine years. Nobody sat there and made excuses for him.
But with Aaron Rodgers, it seems like every game they lose,
it's not his fault, and I know some of them weren't,
but a number of them were his fault and he
just didn't make the plays he needed to, and everybody

(27:26):
at the end of the game says, well, if we
just had more around Aaron's than the Packers would be
winning the Super Bowl every year. I think, and we
haven't talked about this, but I think the reason why
Aaron Rodgers gets Passes is because he has an armed talent,
the likes of which Drew Brees does not, and also
the likes of which Tom Brady does not. Now, if

(27:47):
I am thinking about Aaron Rodgers, I do think what
is controversial about Aaron Rodgers as he comes up on
thirty five years old, is asking the question how much
does he rely on his mobility and his over all
athleticism compared to some of the other older guys who
have extended their careers and played for a long time
at a high level. Drew Brees is thirty nine this year.

(28:10):
He's playing phenomenally well. I don't think athleticism is that
big of a part of his performance. He's much more
like a pitcher in baseball than he is anything else.
Same thing is true with Tom Brady, even though Brady
is statistically having his worst year since two thousand thirteen.
Right now. We'll see what happens with Brady this weekend
in a big game against the Vikings. I don't know

(28:32):
what the outcome is gonna be, but I do know
that that's a massive game going into the weekend. Let's
go to Austin in Nashville. What's up, Austin? We lost Austin.
Let's go to Jordan's in Salt Lake Jordan in Salt
Lake City. What's up Jordan's now mind? How you doing? Play? Excellent? Awesome? Hey,
I just wanted to talk about the college football playoffs
here and Huesaw. I'm Texas Larenhorns fan, and I just

(28:54):
wanted to say that I agreed with everything that you
said in regards to Florida because we're in the same situation.
Nine wins, three loss and I was reading an article
this morning and talked about at Ohio State loses, Oklahoma loses,
Clemson loses, which I think they said was a six
percent chance that there's a chance that Texas beating Oklahoma
could squeak into the playoffs, And as a fan, that'd

(29:15):
be awesome. But I completely disagree. I think that our
our victory would be a big club championship in a
good ball game. I don't think we should be awarded
a college football playoffs spot, neither US North Florida any
of the other nine and three teams just because we
have one really good win and a couple of the
best teams in the nation had a bad loss at
the end of the season. Yeah, you know what. I'm

(29:36):
glad you brought up that scenario because it's the one
scenario we haven't talked about in terms of the college
football playoff, And that is what you just said. If
Oklahoma loses to Texas, if Ohio State were to lose
to Northwestern, and if Clemson were to lose to Pittsburgh,
now that is one heck of a string of major upsets,

(29:57):
then you would have three of your OP six losing, right,
and you would have UH. Regardless of what happened with Georgia.
I think Georgia would be in the playoff, right, because
Georgia would be eleven and two and you would still
have one spot open. Who would get that fourth spot
because you would have Alabama and you would have Georgia in,

(30:19):
and you would have UH, and you would have a
Notre Dame in. I don't think it would go to
nine in three Texas. I think twelve and one Clemson
would get it. I guess it would be ten and
three UH Texas if they if they were able to
beat Oklahoma and win the Big twelve. I still think
twelve and one Clemson would get in UH in that scenario,

(30:40):
but ten in three Texas would be the other team
in the running. There's no doubt about that. All Right,
who should I go to next? Dub? We got Jack
in Indiana? Jack in Indiana? What's up? What's up? Clay Um?
I just kind of wanted to get your point of
view on this Northwestern Ohio State game from a gambling perspective,
because Northwestern has been such a sneaky team and it's

(31:01):
I think it's a fourteen point line and just where
you think this game will go. Yeah, it's actually up
on the hook now. I think fourteen and a half.
You know that Northwestern is gonna need to get blown
out if you're Ohio State, Ohio State needs to pull
a Wisconsin and go out and win like sixty six
to three. Having said that, I don't think that Ohio
State is good enough to blow out Northwestern, who hasn't

(31:23):
been beaten by over fourteen points all year long. So
I like getting Northwestern at fourteen and a half. That's
the side that I am on. Let's go to Alex
in Kansas City. What's up, Alex play? How are you excellent? Hey?
I just wanted to touch based on on uh Notre
Dame you're comparing to the two twelve team. I think

(31:43):
Notre Dame is significantly better than they were in two
dozen twelve. Back in two twelve, they squeaked by b
y U, they squeaked by Pittsburgh, they squeaked by Michigan. UM.
They struggled a lot, and they were riding on the
high of man Tito's great girlfriend then died. And I
think I think there are a lot or this year
being yeah, but but I can make that. I can
make the bear case there. Right. They only beat UH

(32:06):
Vanderbilt at home by five. They squeaked back by a
seven and five Pittsburgh. They weren't very good against five
and six now five and seven USC, I can make you.
And they weren't very good against ball State, like I
can make you a pretty good case for Notre Dame
not being that good. Now, I think they're better than
they were UH when they lost in two thousand and twelve.

(32:26):
I agree, but I think Alabama is better. So I
just think if Nick Saban had to pick a team
that is in the playoffs or in the playoff running
to play in Week one, if you let him pick,
I think there's zeroed out. He picks Notre Dame. Tommy
in uh, Florida. What's up, Tommy? Hey? Man? Uh here
here's I haven't heard this opinion. First of all, what
you're saying about playing the top eight teams right now

(32:49):
clearly would be better than what we're going to get
this weekend. Yes, but the problem and I haven't heard
anybody say that on any of the shows. The problems
the way the conferences are set up. If you had
the conference teams played the conferences play all eleven games
or so in their conference, and then had the top
two the way that the Big twelve does it, you

(33:12):
would have a much better conference championship weekend, for example
in Ohio State. And I mean, what's Northwestern doing even
in Yeah? Yeah, thank thanks, yeah thanks. The concept of
divisions makes no sense in college football. I just retweeted something.
If I were in charge of college football, that is

(33:33):
the biggest change that I would make. I would eliminate
all divisions. No Big TENN East, no Big ten West,
no SEC East, no SEC West, no Atlantic, no Coastal,
no Pac twelve South, no Pac twelve North. They are
insanely stupid and should not exist. Robert, and Tennessee needs
you to be quick. What's up, man, yes, or uh,
my thing is you know my fulf plays for day

(33:55):
three Football Front Union. They got three two team play off.
Why can't they there's a Division one do that. Yeah,
it's a great question. But you know sixteen things or so. Yeah, No,
it's a great question. Robert, Congratulations to your son. By
the way, Mount Union is one of the great D

(34:16):
three teams in the history of of all sports, one
of the great football teams in general. Had an incredible story.
They play a huge playoff in D three, They play
a huge playoff in FCS. There is no reason why
we shouldn't have an a team playoff in college football,
No logical reason, no reasonable approximation for why we have

(34:36):
the system that we have now. But at least it's
better than it was ten years ago. Eight would make
it perfect. All right, we come back. We're gonna talk
with my guy Drew Martin. Get you some gambling picks
for college football weekend and tonight's game. This is OutKick
coverage on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, I go out
Kick Studio. As a message from Welch's Grape Juice. Of
the profits made from Welch's Grape Juice goes to American farmers.

(35:00):
Know what else goes to American farmers of the thrill
from repeatedly crushing grapes, skins and seeds included to all
that's left is delicious juice. That's what's else. The world's
toughest antioxidants, which is toughest grapes. We bring in now,
Drew Martin, he's with sports book Review dot com at
Drew Martin bets on Twitter and Drew. The big game
tonight in the NFL is the Saints margin into Dallas

(35:23):
to take on the Cowboys. What do you think happens?
You know, Clay, We we got New Orleans, the Saints
drinking near the top and offense and almost every category
out there, Dallas twenty five yards per game in the NFL.
I think we get a you know, obviously one of
the top quarterbacks, Uh, Drew Brees. I'll take him over
over Dak Prescott any day. New Orleans at one of

(35:46):
the bigger books kind of caters towards the smarts smarter
money at seven at Chris, meaning they're they're not wanting
to take more big bets on the New Orleans Saints
seven and a half. In other books, like you wagers. So,
uh I, I think we're getting a buy low opportunity
here on the Saints tonight. Clay Alright, college football title games,
I say title games in quotation marks. And by the way,

(36:09):
I'm with you on the Saints. I'm gonna be betting
on them tonight. What title game games do you like
most from a gambling perspective, um I, I would probably say, actually,
I'll go to the SEC. You know, one of the
obviously biggest conferences in Atlanta here, and Alabama does a
lot of things right, you know, big plays on offense,

(36:29):
but Georgia, that's what they really excel at defense. Their
defense is uh really holding the opponents on offense, uh,
to the to minimal explosive plays. Another big book that
that caters towards smart money, penny is that Alabama minus
thirteen minus thirteen and a half pretty much everywhere in
the market in the in the sports betting marketplace, meaning

(36:51):
they're not wanting to take big bets on Alabama. That
makes me look towards Georgia. George's backfield holy filled and swift.
I think they're really underrated and we'll be able to
move the ball against Alabama. UM. Georgia thirteenth in the
nation and red jone red zone scoring percentage. I think
that points towards one of my favorite Division one football players,

(37:12):
red Rigo Blanket Ship, the kicker for Georgia, the guy
that wears the glasses. Yeah, really fun to watch. But
really the stat that that that I like the most
about Georgia here is in Alabama's last nine games, that's
this year and last year, where they faced a team
averaging over two hundred yards rushing, they're just one in

(37:33):
eight against the number, and Georgia obviously qualified. So I
like Georgia catching a big number here, Claire, you can
find it thirteen and a half right now? What else
in the in the conference title games, um got got
a bunch here, I think what we have six rematches,
so Friday night game in the pack twelve, I would
look towards Utah in this rematch. Washington won the first

(37:55):
match one to seven, but if you re watch that game,
that game played out a lot closer than that final
score indicates Washington plus two in turnover margin. And also
Washington looked good against Washington State. But keep in mind
just this past game that was a lot of snow
on the ground against Gardner Minshew, who you know was

(38:16):
was running the Mike Leach offense, throwing the ball all
around snow on the ground against the Southern Mississippi kid
Gardner Minshoo's from there. I think it was his first
competitive game throwing in in the snow, so Washington looked
really good. But um, I mean, Clay, where are you
looking at as far as championship game goes. Yeah, I'm
gonna give out all my picks. Uh, probably tomorrow, but

(38:38):
I am I'm already making a lot of these picks
on lock It in the television show, and so I'm
on Utah, I'm on Georgia. Were in agreement. There my
favorite pick. And I know this may be a major
public side, but with Oklahoma and what they have done
on the offensive side of the ball and the way
they haven dictated and controlled pace, I think the over
seventy eight over seventy seven and a half is the

(38:59):
play in the Big twelve title game. That's my favorite
play by far. What do you think about the over there?
I liked the over and I'll tell you what. The
last four games Oklahoma's defense has played, they got at
Texas Tech gave up forty six points. Oklahoma State gave
up forty seven points against Kansas. Yeah, that's the Kansas Jayhawks,
one of the worst Division One programs out there. They

(39:20):
give up forty points in just this past game against
West Virginia, giving up fifty six points there. Clig Also
keep in mind they were owing four against the number
to end the year in those four games. It's tough
to trust a defense giving up that many points. So
I'd be wary going on Oklahoma minus eight here. But yeah,
I agree with you the Texas Oklahoma total. It's just
tough to bet thunders when you're talking when you're talking

(39:43):
the Sooners, what are you thinking about Memphis UCS? That's
the tricky handicap there. Yeah, it's a good question. Thanks
to Drew Martin for hanging out with us here at
Drew Martin Bets on Twitter spr a sports book. I
am on Memphis plus three and a half and I
like the over on that game, although without Mackenzie Milton
that's a difficult all. One of the things that's fascinating
about Texas Oklahoma the hook them Horne sign. I'll tell

(40:04):
you about a ridiculous story and what's taking place there
next as we continue to dive into college football in
the NFL. Why from the Geico Alt Kick Studios, where

(40:46):

a Uh, and they got incredible shirts. I've been on
the website before, but I walked around and looked at
that Untucket store out in the Westfield Mall. I think
they have forty Untucket stores across the country. No matter
what kind of body type you got, you'll look better
in those shirts. It's the holiday season. If you're out
there listening right now, you're a woman, you got a boyfriend,

(41:08):
you got a husband, you're a little bit nervous about
what he might wear. Use my code untucket dot com
clay doesn't matter what your husband or boyfriend looks like. Otherwise,
And if you're a guy out there and you've got
no idea what you're gonna wear it all these Christmas
parties that you're going to, you have no idea how
to make a choice. You can't go wrong at untucket
dot com casual but also dressy. It's a good combo. Um.

(41:28):
There's a story that's driving me insane. Obviously as we
start off hour two. Thanks to everybody waking up across
the country. Big game tonight. Hopefully you're gonna stay up
for it, maybe get a nap in. UH. The Saints
going on the road, marching into Dallas take on the Cowboys.
Amari Cooper has been a steal for the UH Dallas Cowboys.
Although Drew Brees is playing so well, he's literally throwing

(41:50):
touchdown passes to people I don't even know. He had
four touchdown passes last week. I didn't know any of
the wide receivers. I'm pretty confident right now that if
Jerry Jones got into a New Orleans Saints uniform, Drew
Brees could throw him a touchdown pass. I'm very confident
he put me in a uniform. They could diagram of
play that would leave me wide open to catch a
touchdown pass from Drew Brees. I think the average person

(42:11):
watching the game the New Orleans super Dome, Drew Brees
has such a high completion percentage right now, and he's
throwing so many touchdown passes, I think he could hit
the average fan for a touchdown pass. That's how unbelievable
Drew brees performance has been. So I can't wait to
see what's gonna happen there tonight. I'm on the over.
I'm also on the New Orleans Saints. You can watch
me break down that game for sure. Unlock it in

(42:31):
later today. By the way, appreciate all of you who
were watching Lock it In. We had two of our
biggest audiences of the year so far. We continue to
grow that audience pretty well. If you haven't checked out
that FS one television show or set your DVR four
thirty Eastern, three thirty Central to thirty Mountain one thirty Pacific.
To me, it's cousin sal from the ringer Todd Ferman,

(42:53):
who comes on this show very frequently and also, of
course Rachel Bonetta, who I know Danny g is a
big fan of She's awesome and doing a great job
hosting the show. But you haven't checked it out. You
like gambling and you enjoy just having people hang out
and talk about how to bet. You should definitely check
out that show on on any afternoon across the nation

(43:14):
or set your DVR. But this story we were just
talking about with Drew Martin Texas and Oklahoma. My favorite
bet of the week, and I've already made it is
the over in Texas Oklahoma. I think you look at
what Oklahoma has done defensively and offensively. They've controlled every

(43:35):
game that they've been in from a pace perspective for
the last month. And if you look at overall what
is going on with Oklahoma and their performance, they can't
stop anybody, and they can't be stopped by anybody. Listen
to the last four games that Oklahoma has played, and
this doesn't even need to consider all the games they

(43:55):
play before. But let's just talk about the games they
have played since it has turned into November. They played
Texas Tech, they went on the road, and they won
fifty one to forty six. Now I'm gonna try to
do live math on the air. That's ninety seven points.
They played against Oklahoma State and they won forty eight

(44:16):
to forty seven after Oklahoma State missed on a two
point conversion right at the end of the game. That
is ninety five points. They played against Kansas Kansas and
gave up forty points. That is ninety five points. And
last weekend they played on the road in Morgantown against

(44:37):
West Virginia and they gave up a hundred and five
total points. They gave up fifty six points to West Virginia,
a hundred and five points work scored in that game.
All of those numbers are a lot more than seventy eight.
And if you wondered how these two teams might match
up together, Oklahoma and Texas played in the Red River

(44:59):
Shootout in Dallas back in October and Oklahoma gave up
forty eight to Texas and scored forty five themselves. That
is ninety three points. Everything points to the over in
this game. I absolutely love it. What I do not
love is the absurdity of the storyline surrounding the hook'm

(45:20):
horn sign. Have y'all been paying attention to this? It's
a huge deal. Now that some teams do the downwards
hook'm horn sign when they do something good to combat
the upwards hook'm horn sign when Oklahoma does something good.
This is crazy to me that Oklahoma is gonna get

(45:43):
penalized fifteen yards if any of their players do the
downward hook'm horn sign. Here's my argument. If you can
do the upward facing hook m horn sign, then you
have to be able to do the downward sign. You
can't allow a thumbs up gesture and say you can't

(46:05):
do the thumbs down gesture. Am I the only one
who thinks this is crazy that the Big twelve is
getting involved and saying, hey, Oklahoma, if you do the
downward hook'm horn sign, we're gonna find you. Uh, We're
gonna penalize you fifteen yards. This is not allowed under
the rules. Can anybody defend this at all? I'm gonna

(46:28):
open up the phone lines. We'll talk about this with
Barrett Suley by the way, from CBS Sports coming up
in a moment. Eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six six
three six nine. Can anyone defend why the upwards facing
hook'm horn is allowed the downward facing hook'm horns is not.
It doesn't make sense to me at all. If you're

(46:49):
going to allow one, you have to allow the other.
This to me is like allowing thumbs up and not
allowing thumbs down. Can anybody defend it? Danny G? Is
this in aim to you that you can do the
hook'm horns and there's no issue with it, but if
you do the downward hook i'm horns, it's impermissible. Is
this a rhetorical question because it's just dumb? So I

(47:11):
don't think any Can you imagine if this game got
decided because one of the players scored a touchdown and
did a downward took him horn sign, And I think they,
if I remember correctly, Will Greer, when he scored on
the two point conversion play, got penalized fifteen yards for
doing the downward took him horn sign and it could
have cost West Virginia the game. Now you can say, oh,

(47:32):
they should know that they shouldn't do it, but my
argument is just pretty straightforward. If you can do the
sign facing up, how can you not do the sign
facing down? This would be like banning the downwards facing thumb.
Like thumbs up good thumbs dumb, thumbs down is down
right back in the Day, Cisco and Ebert became multi
millionaires because it thumbs up and thumbs down. Can you

(47:55):
imagine if college football we're trying to ban thumbs down
while allowing thumbs up? Anybody? Uh, Eddie Garcia, Roberto dub
Does anybody think this makes any sense at all? Roberto?
This is insane? Right? Yeah, they're just going to show
you that Texas is king for the Big Twelve. Yeah.
That's where a lot of people, I think, come down
on this. They say the rules are different for Texas

(48:17):
than everybody else, that the Big Twelve is sending out
this message saying you're not allowed to do this. Eddie Garcia,
this is insane. Right. Well, I will say, like I
think that they shouldn't be allowed to do anything. I
think college football should embrace what the NFL has done
and let these guys have fun and flex their muscles
and do all that kind of stuff. However, I will

(48:37):
say I think the hook m horns down sign is
a sign of disrespect. I think the hookham horns up
sign is just I don't think that's something sign of respect.
But that's fine if they're allowed to taunt by doing
the hook them horns like this is what. I don't
think that's taunting. I don't think that's taunting the other
team by doing their symbol or whatever. They don't do

(49:00):
a symbol. If you don't want somebody to do the
opposite of your symbol, then don't do the symbol. Dub.
Is this make Texas fans look like a bunch of
triggered snowflake losers? It absolutely does. And I grew up
in Texas, so the Texas Texas and M rivalry that
once was was a huge thing. And every single time
and M would score, they do the downward horns. And

(49:21):
in their fight song it says saw them off yea
A and M was still in the Big twelve. I mean,
would they be making A and M change the lyrics
to their fight song. I don't understand the idea that
you can't handle the fact that people are pointing your
horns down right, like it's not that offensive of a
hand sign. Right. I'm gonna open up the phone lines here.

(49:42):
We have a lot of people in Texas who listen
everywhere our long horn fans actually of the opinion that
the downward hook M horns should not be allowed. And
I really gotta say, I think This is evidence of
Texas being the big straw, the big the the what
would have been like the big the big deal in

(50:04):
the Big twelve and getting rules set up that nobody
else can do. If I'm an Oklahoma fan, honestly, if
I'm an Oklahoma player, I just I almost all want
to do this because they're not gonna penalize every single
player who does it. They're just not going to allow
the game to turn into one fifteen yard penalty after another.
And I would want to set the precedent that this

(50:24):
should not be permissible. Eight seven seven nine six three
six nine is the phone number. Let me go ahead
and take a break. I'll take some of your calls
on this. On the flip side, we will also be
joined by Barrett Sulley. Is anybody able to defend the
Big twelve trying to stop and protect Texas and their
tender feelings and their poor malind hurt feelings, the poor

(50:48):
snowflakes at Texas If Oklahoma fans do the downward took
him horn uh signed. This is one of the dumbest
controversies I have heard in college football in a long time.
And that is saying something because college football is just
one stupid controversy after another very often. By the way,
one of the most important things we do for our health, well,
it's brush your teeth, yet most of us don't do

(51:09):
it properly. Quip is a better electric toothbrush created by
dentists and designers to make brushing your teeth more simple, affordable,
and even enjoyable. They take care of your gums and
make sure that you are doing tooth brushing right, and
they give you a two minute timer pulse every thirty
seconds to remind you when to switch sides. That's important

(51:31):
because nine of people don't brush for a full two
minutes or don't clean their teeth evenly. That's why it's
important to go get Quip right now. It will get
you hooked up, doesn't require a clucky charger, and it
runs for three months on one charge. Brush heads automatically
delivered on a dentist recommended schedule every three months for

(51:51):
just five bucks. That's because three out of four of
us use bristles that are old, worn out, and ineffective.
Quip is one of the first electric tooth USh is
accepted by the American Dental Association, has thousands of verified
five star reviews. I use it. You should as well.
I love it and that's why all of you should
try it out as well. Starting at just twenty five dollars,

This is Outkicked the Coverage. Why are Longhorn fans being
such woss is about the downwards hook him sign? We'll
talk about it. We'll also talk with Barrett Slee from
CBS Sports All that next on Fox Sports Radio. Be
sure to catch live editions about Kicked the Coverage with
Clay Travis week days at six am Easter three am Pacific.

(53:03):
It's Christmas season and sometimes the stuff we're pulling off
as Christmas music even stunts me Welcome back Ico out
Kick Studios. Car shopping can be confused. I mean it's
Christmas music car shopping and not that that's complaining. Car
shopping could be confusing with terms like dealer price, list price,
and invoics. True Car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want, so you can recognize a
good price when you're ready to buy a new or

(53:25):
used car. Visit True Car to enjoy a more confident
car buying experience. And we're brought to you by Discover Card.
We treat you like you treat you. Talking about the
stupid rule from the Big Twelve that the downward hookom
horn is fifteen yard penalty could be instrumental in this
game between Oklahoma and Texas. Lots of people want to react.
JT and Rochester York. What you got for me? Hey, Clay,
how you doing excellent? I think this is political correctness

(53:48):
on mad and why you are so popular and why
you're doing so great. You're one of the few people
that points out and save America from the liberal you know,
politically corrects now flakes. They're on national talk radio. This
is ridiculous. It's because one person complains all the sudden,
you know, everyone needs to react to that complaint. You

(54:10):
offended me. It's a joke. It shouldn't be allowed. Another
thing play on it. Yeah. But one other thing that
the college football playoffs. I have a really good idea
that you should promote big times. Get rid of Week
one where it's like Alabama versus Morehead State, allow the
national the conference finals, allow that to continue, and just

(54:34):
add one more week for the BCS so you can
make it eight teams. Everyone wins, the players don't play
more weeks, they still get their their um conference title game,
and we get the eight team playoff. I think that's
the perfect solution to this problem. Yeah, I play love you.
I think you're amazing. I appreciate the call um. Alabama

(54:57):
actually starts usually with a tough neutral site game against
an opponent, which is why they play the Citadel in November.
And that's why I really don't have a problem with
the way they do their schedule. I think the challenges
in general with replacing the conference title game that they're
making so much money. I think you probably have to
play the conference title games and expand the playoff to eight,

(55:19):
which is probably okay, but I just think the conference
title game is a waste in general. And by the way,
in the state of Texas, you would think of all
the people who would be okay with somebody throwing a
hand gesture that you don't like. It would be Texans
with the big swaggering belt buckles and hats and all
the cattle and the cowboys and everything else. Of all

(55:41):
the states in the Union to be triggered snowflakes over
a hand gesture, you would think Texas would be a
state that could handle it. It's absolutely pathetic in my
opinion that they run to the Big Twelve conference and
hide behind the commissioners skirt and beg to be protected.
T J and Omaha, what's up there down there? And

(56:05):
Texas you know the reason why they had the one
star on their flags. They think they run the whole country.
And let's be honest, if Texas, if if any other
state was doing this, if like if it were an
extremely liberal state, like, oh, we're so upset when somebody
does the opposite of our hand gesture, you've got to
penalize them. If that was taking place, and like Berkeley,

(56:27):
everybody in Texas would say, oh, you know how those
left wing loser liberals are. They can't handle when somebody
says something that hurts their feelings. And now Texas, of
all states, is the one curled up in the fetal position,
whining and begging for protection makes no sense. Randy and
Palo Alto, what's up? And run through a bunch of
these any of these other schools had a badass like

(56:50):
hand gesture and they went upside down? It would also
be a penalty for those teams. It's not Texas being
put on a pedestal in the big chain. But with
that said, the thumbs up as a universal get gesture worldwide,
thumbs up, thumbs down the horn it's there, upside down.
You might as well give him the bird, you know
what I mean? Now I disagree. I think if you

(57:10):
can do the positive, then somebody else should be the negative.
Who was that that? I was actually talking to their
dub That was Randy and Palo Alto. All right, Josh
in Texas? What's up? Josh? Hey, what's going on? Clay Man?
This whole communist and snowflake thing? It's not what like,
it's not it's not all Texas fans? Where did where
did it even come from? Do you have any idea?

(57:30):
I know Tom Herman was whining about it after the
West Virginia game. He was saying, Hey, we need to
have everybody penalized to throwing up the hook I'm horns down,
Tom Herman, like all the things you could be worried about,
you're worried about somebody else doing something. If you don't
like what somebody can point the gesture downwards, then don't
do the gesture upwards. That's the thing. Like, if it's
not a penalty to do the hook of horns to celebrate,

(57:54):
then I don't understand how it can be a penalty
to do the downward took them horns. Yeah, I I
agree with you, man. I'm a big time Texas fan,
always have been, and that's stupid upside down horns saying,
I mean it's you know, pissed me off since I
can remember watching Texas football when I was a kid,
And I mean, I don't understand why all of a
sudden it's a it's a big deal. I'm with you, man,

(58:15):
I appreciate it, you know what. And there are a
lot of Texas fans who are tweeting me also saying
this is a stupid hill to die on. We don't care.
The other thing Oklahoma could do is they could sarcastically
do the hook of horns when they score every time
they score. If the whole team started doing the hook
of horns, it might kill it in the process. Joe
and Kentucky, what's up? Joe loved Loved hating news since

(58:35):
she was on three HL a long time ago. Man, um, anyhow,
this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. And
I'll give you an example. That guy a few calls
back said, you know, any other team had the hand
signal Kentucky and Louisville this weekend when Benny Snell ran
in the end zone he put the als down. Nothing
was said, no flags were phone, nothing was written about it. Man,

(58:57):
this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Yeah, and that,
like the l's down is yeah, So what you know?
Like I I just I think in general that there's
a good caller called earlier and said, hey, you know
what we need to do. We need to do more
of the celebration allowed in college football like it does
in the NFL. It doesn't seem to me like there's

(59:17):
a lot of taunting going on in the NFL and
we've got guys doing limbos in the end zone. Right.
It's an entertainment product, and if you're entertaining, then go
ahead and do it like I don't. I don't understand
why we have to be so concerned with every gesture
that people do. Troy and Louisiana, what's up, Troy? Wait? Yes,

(59:37):
so this is my thing. Man. When you have a
female dog and you call the female dog the D word,
that is a term of what that dog is, wld
you call this same dog a B word out of
anger and then is the lagueratory. So um needs to
accept something across the room. If you're crost room, give
you a domb down, then me, I don't want to
pay if I leave sign down that has no good,

(59:59):
that has no good meeting and life its rocket story
result it doesn't. But I understand where they're coming from. Yeah,
but I think what you're doing, and this is the
chance thanks to the call. What you're doing is you're
sending the message of you can't handle somebody saying something
that you don't like. That's what you're basically saying, like
we need to protect somebody from their feelings being hurt,

(01:00:20):
because if their feelings get hurt, they might do or
say something that is unacceptable. Right. I mean that this
is like what we're about now as a society is
we gotta keep people from ever giving getting their feelings hurt.
How about telling people just to toughen up. If you
don't want somebody to do the downward took him horn sign,
keep them from scoring. If you don't want somebody to
do the upward took him horn score sign, keep them

(01:00:41):
from scoring. Like this is crazy that the Big twelve
needs to get involved to send a message that we
will find we will flag you fifteen yards if we
see you doing it. Also, it puts the officials in
a ridiculous proposition because they gotta watch everybody's hand gestures
all the game, all game long. Stupid makes no sense
to me. Ted in Virginia, what's up, hey, Clay? First

(01:01:02):
of all, big fan, I think you're absolutely correct on
one thing, that this is the snowflake culture ruling things.
Where I disagree is I don't think it's a Texas thing.
I know Herman complained at the dub V game, but
I was watching a game earlier this year, an ole
Miss football game. Okay, I'm gonna get sacked for ole Miss,

(01:01:23):
And right afterwards, the defender who sacked him gave the
shark sign on his helmet and was flagged fifteen yards. Yeah,
I'm telling you this falls under the heading of D B. A. P.
You're exactly right, collegiate athletics. We need a safe space.
I think they're gonna start flagging teams if you go
for two when the book doesn't call for it. It

(01:01:46):
is good point, like the old miss is the land shark,
and when you sometimes sack, it's a stupid, like ridiculous
way to celebrate, right, But when you sometimes sack somebody,
I think it's funny to throw up the land shark
in a derogatory fashion, Which is why I would say
that Oklahoma players should all do the hook him sign
every time they score, because if upwards took him is

(01:02:07):
allowed and downwards isn't, why don't you just ridicule the
long Horns by doing their own gesture when you score
a touchdown, because then you get into, well, one team
can do something and the other team can't, and it
just gets into even more of an absurdity. Who was
I just talking to I can't even remember. I don't know.
Jaken to Austin, Texas. I think is up next, jakeen Austin,
What's up, all right, what's going on? One thing you

(01:02:30):
got to understand about Austin. This is the snowflake capital,
liberal capital of Texas. It does not reflect the rest
of Texas. I've living about more college towns, and this
is the softest fan base that I've ever come into
contact with. You live in Austin. If you live in Austin,
aren't you embarrassed to be whining because somebody took your

(01:02:53):
hand gesture and pointed it downwards, Like, how do you
have a grown person like Tom Herman or anybody else
making this argument? Clay, you got you gotta drink one
lest beer when you're out here, because you might say
something that's gonna send somebody and they might try to
find out where you work and gets you fired because
they won't be so politically correct over here. It's a

(01:03:14):
damn embarrassment, it is. I think, thanks for the call, uh,
and thanks for listening. It is to me just kind
of emblematic of the larger arena of stupidity that we
have found ourselves in the modern era. It really is.
We're gonna be joined by Barrett Sully here on the
flip side. But I appreciate all your calls. You can
find me on Twitter at Clay Travis. Maybe I'll put
up a poll question even Texas people, even your average

(01:03:37):
Texas Longhorn fan, I believe thinks this is stupid. Barrett
Sully joining us here momentarily, but first, Eddie Garcia, Eddie,
please bring us some sanity in the world sports. What's
checking out there? I will do my best. We've got
a guy who's scoreboard from the NBA where the Clippers
beat the Sun's one fifteen to ninety nine. Clippers right
now are the best team in the Western Conference at
fourteen and six, and their percentage points up on Golden

(01:03:59):
State thunder over the Cavaliers one eighty three. Russell Westbrook
a triple double for Oklama City twenty three points, nineteen rebounds,
fifteen assist It's is one seventh career triple double. Let's
time for third old time with Jason Kidd triple double
for James Harton points, eleven rebounds, seventeen assists for Houston.
But in a losing effort the Mavericks with a one
oh eight win in Houston. Damian literally goes for forty

(01:04:20):
one points. Trailblazers beat the Magic one fifteen to one
twelve college basketball, we had three teams that featured top
twenty five teams going head to head, including number seven
Michigan rolling over eleventh right in North Carolina eighty four
to sixty seven. Number four Virginia wins at number twenty
four Maryland seventy six to seventy one, and fifteenth ran
Flourida State got by number nineteen per Du seventy three
to seventy two. This report is brought to you by

(01:05:05):
way is easier. Barrett's sole CBS Sports is with us. Now, Barrett,
are you with me that this policing of the downward
took him horn sign as one of the dumbest controversies
in college football recent history. Yeah, it's definitely. Look it's
college football, right, Clay, like that we thrive in some
controversies in this board. But yeah, I mean this is
this is one of the dumbest. I mean, come on,
like you're you're trying to regulate. Um, you know, what

(01:05:28):
is directed at somebody, what isn't directed at somebody? I mean,
let the kids have fun, you know that. I don't.
I've never understood. And this applies for Florida with the
chump too. You know, why does the home team get
to do it and the road team get penalized for it?
It doesn't make sense to me. So um, yeah, it's
it's it's crazy. And if I'm Oklahoma, I do I

(01:05:49):
do horns down every single time and make them make
a stand and say, hey, look, this is gonna be
the new norm moving forward because they can't just sort
of you know, regulate it on a them like they
they seem like they're doing for the Big Twelve championship games. Yeah,
it also just ties in with the larger kind of
storyline of the Big Twelve, which is everything is done

(01:06:10):
to protect Texas and their delicate feelings, which a lot
of other people in the Big twelves certainly have an
issue with. And by the way, there are lots of
Texas fans who are reaching out to me saying, we
think this is stupid, like of all the things to
be a concerned about. Why in the world is this
a storyline as we prepare to play for the Big
twelve championship? All right, I bet you're gonna be in Atlanta.
I will be in Atlanta. Georgia Obama. Do you agree

(01:06:31):
Georgia has to win to get in? Do you agree
that Alabama is already in? And what do you think
is gonna happen in the game? Okay, so I agree
that Georgia is almost has to win, but not necessarily
has to win. So let's just play a scenario game,
because that's what the College Football Playoff is all about. Right.
If Ohio State loses to the Northwestern and if Oklahoma loses,

(01:06:54):
I don't even really care what you CEF does, but
let's just say they win ugly, uh, and Georgia loses
a close game. I still think Georgia would be in
in that scenario, but that is extremely unlikely. Um and
and sort of the same thing for Alabama if they lose,
the discussion becomes Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Alabama, And it's
basically the same thing we had last year. And so

(01:07:16):
Alabama would be in unless they get run by like
forty points by Georgia, which again possible but not likely. Yeah,
and maybe two it gets hurt. Uh, That's what I
keep saying. Is the only the only thing out there
where you could look at Alabama and say this is
a fundamentally different team coming out of the SEC title
game than they were entering. Uh, what about any of

(01:07:39):
the other games? Does Pittsburgh have a chance to upset Clemson?
Is there? Is there? And if you had to pick
one of the upsets Oklahoma losing to Texas, of Ohio
State losing to Northwestern, or Clemson losing Obama for that matter,
which one is the most likely? I mean, I would
say probably Texas over Oklahoma just because you know, ay,
we've seen it obviously, But then be I mean you

(01:08:00):
it's hard to trust Oklahoma's defense, and I know they've
done what they needed to do to get here, but
when you have one side of the ball so severely
lacking in terms of of what it needs to do.
Then it's hard to trust you on on a consistent basis.
So you know Oklahoma, you know, I I love Oklahoma,
but of the teams that are in contention, including Ohio State,

(01:08:23):
I don't trust Oklahoma, you know, because of what they
what they do defensively, So it is probably the most
likely upset. I wouldn't necessarily be shocked if if Georgia
really keeps it close with Alabama. George is a good
football team. Now, I mean I'm picking Alabama to win,
I'm picking them the cover. But you know, Georgia from
a talent standpoint is right there. I think from an

(01:08:44):
experienced standpoint, specifically along the front seven defensively is where
they are really really uh are have have a have
a problem relative to what Alabama is and so that
will ultimately cost them. But I mean, Georgia, Jake from
the third most efficient pastor in the country. They've got
great at wide receivers when DeAndre Swift is back and
then tastes healthy. Now that running back corps is awesome,
So you know, George has got a chance. Any idea

(01:09:07):
that that Alabama is just gonna come make a victory
laugh in Mercedes Been Stadium. That's that's not real when
you look at Alabama this year. I'm gonna talk about
this a little bit in the top of our three.
I know you are a big college football fan. Are
they the most dominant college football team you have ever
seen in the modern era right now? Yes? Um, but

(01:09:28):
that would have to continue through you know, the National Championship.
I saw them firsthand last week in Tusca Loosa. I
mean it's silly. I mean, it is ridiculous. How when
they turn it on. I mean it goes from zero
to a hundred in like two minutes, and so, um yeah,
I mean it's it's really really, really impressive what they've
been able to do. Um, They're They're as complete as

(01:09:51):
a team that I've seen outside of the kicking game,
which is just sort of what Alabama is now laughable
at this time. How bad Alabama is on field goals
and extra point points. They've missed eight extra points. Just
go for two every time. I honestly, just go for
two every time? Like what what's the problem doing that? So?
Um except showing your two point conversion plays all the time.
But um no, I mean yeah, I'd say two thousand

(01:10:11):
and one. Miami is the best team I've ever seen. Uh,
this team right now and I wrote this on CBS
force dot com last week. Um, this team right now
is in that discussion that they will be in that
kind of realm if they win the national championship. Now
they have to go do it, of course, but I mean, yeah,
it is as dominant as a team as I've ever seen.
When you look at the opening open jobs right now,

(01:10:33):
We've got Colorado open, We've got uh, Louisville. We haven't
talked much about this, but Louisville. Jeff Bram decides to
stay at Purdue, doesn't move to Louisville, UNC hires Mac Brown.
What in Georgia Tech now is open because Paul Johnson
has left? What to you stands out about the open
college football jobs right now? Anything really kind of surprising
that you expect to happen down the stretch here. Well,

(01:10:55):
the the Georgia Tech thing yesterday is interesting. I mean,
everybody else has, you know, pretty decent foundation of college football.
Georgia Tech foundation is the triple option, Like this is
completely different than any other scheme. So I want to
know what Georgia Tech wants to do. Now because they
either have to go triple option or it's gonna be
a very very long rebuilding process getting away from the

(01:11:16):
triple option. So that that, to me is is what's
most fascinating. Is you're sitting here for Georgia Tech and
now you've got a choice. You're in the most recruit
one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country,
but also one of the toughest in terms of what
you do have to do to fight to get those recruits.
So do you want to continue what Paul Johnson was doing,
which is finding two three star kids that excel in

(01:11:38):
one specific area and just being unique in terms of
the A c C and how you operate, or do
you want to completely change your philosophy as a football program.
And if you do that, then you're marrying yourself to
a coach who needs a lot of time to to
fix it. So that is that's what's gonna be fascinating
to me. Um. The one thing I know about Georgia

(01:12:00):
Tech is they like being unique and they don't really
care about, you know, what pr looks like. So so
does that mean they stay with triple option and be
unique or do they go get somebody like Lane Kiffin,
who can recruit in this area. I don't know, but
Georgia Tech opening is fascinating for me. Are you at

(01:12:20):
four and eight or a sixteen team playoff? Guy four?
Because if you go to eight, then there's no way
that it passes without automatic bits for conference champions and
automatic bits for conference champions would be absolutely disastrous to
the regular season. It would be disastrous for TV packages

(01:12:41):
that that conference is signed for the regular season, and
it would be disastrous for the sport because you look
at what you have right now. Pitt is in the
a c C Championship game, Northwestern is in the Big
Ten championship game. Utah and Washington are playing um Texas.
You know, if they win, do they deserve to me,
if you're talking about a two teams that flat out

(01:13:02):
don't deserve a shot at the national championship based on
what they've done through twelve games of the regular season
in championship games this weekend, theoretically in an eight team
playoff with a chance to play themselves in. That's not
what college football is all about. College football is about debate,
it's about uh frustration, it's about the unknown, and that's

(01:13:25):
why we love it. And you know, here's what this
is gonna happen. I guarantee you on Sunday when you
know there's somebody left out, all these talking heads that
don't follow college football nationally are gonna say, well, this
is gonna be the thing that pushes it to eight
teams because of this controversy. We have to go to
eight teams and this is gonna accelerated. No, the College

(01:13:47):
Football Playoff Committee and the College Football Playoff Commissioner, college
FOOTBA commissioners, they don't view it that way. That debate,
that frustration. That's the feature of the sport. It's not
a bug of the sport. And they love that about it. Barrett.
One year ago you were on with us and you
had a seizure. Uh. It has now been a year
since then. You haven't had a seizure since then. But

(01:14:07):
you put out a tweet to help people raise awareness
and to help everybody out there. Uh what is that
location and how people go help out? Yeah, I appreciate that,
and I'm sorry I had a season on your show, Clay.
You shouldn't do that to be Hey, you have no
idea how how often people want to have seizures while
they're on listening to me. So you're just the first
person to actually do it on the air, right one Yeah,

(01:14:28):
one year Caesar free as of yesterday. And uh, you
know Epilepsy g a dot org or you know your
local epilepsy uh foundation, there's there's one in in fifty
states of fifty states, or the National eile Epilepsy Foundation.
A lot of people since you know, I've found out
that I have it, um, you know, I've kind of
gone through this whole process of of learning all about it,
and uh, you know, one in ten people have seizures
in their life and it really really hurts. For for

(01:14:50):
the state of Georgia, for me, means you lose your
license for six months. For other states it's up to
two years. There's a lot going on um with people
that have epilepsy that no one really know was about.
So if you can go to your local h epilepsy
foundation in your state and make a donation to see
if we can we can solve this thing. Outstanding stuff
is always go follow Barrett at Barrett Silly on Twitter.

it's wild. He literally had a seizure with us on

And I'm glad that he is doing well and hopefully
you guys can help out other people who would have
the same malady as he did. I am Clay Travis.

hook I'm arn discussion, We were having the vast majority
of you pointing out that you think it's also absurd
and UH. And so credit also to a lot of
Texas fans who are jumping in and saying this is
a ridiculous thing to be part of the storyline. And

(01:16:17):
one of the reasons I was thinking about it last
night he was, and I actually tweeted this out, Uh,
the governor of the state of Texas. Let me find
this tweet that I found, Uh Greg Abbott, who is
the governor? He tweeted last night, I'm with the newly
elected governor of Oklahoma. Obviously we have our difference of
opinion about the game this weekend hashtag hook them and

(01:16:39):
sitting next to the governor of Oklahoma. The governor of
Texas is doing the hook him sign and the governor
of Oklahoma is doing the downwards Owokohama sign, and they're
both grinning for the photo. They're not fighting, They're not
in complete disability to sit beside each other. That's kind
of what makes college football great. You can have your

(01:16:59):
hook him signed. I can have my downward hookham Horns signed,
And if you want to go check out my Twitter feed.
You can see the governor of Texas sitting next to
the governor of Oklahoma. I guess he got flagged for
a fifteen yard penalty at the National Governor's Convention um
at at that event for tossing down the hook. I'm
horns event for the Oklahoma and the Texas game. Speaking
of ridiculous behavior, do you guys see this Uh, we

(01:17:21):
just mentioned it with Barrett Sale And by the way,
we're gonna talk with Britt mckenry an hour three. Uh,
she's formerly of the ESPN now with Fox News, comes
on the show. Assuming she answers her phone. We'll see
whether or not that happens. That's one of the wild
cards with Britt. But as you uh are paying attention
to the college football coaching higher season, Mac Brown has
been hired at U n C. Uh. We'll think about

(01:17:43):
and talk about probably at some point how that will go.
He's starting to put together his staff. I think just
added Tim Brewster from down at Florida from down formerly
at Florida State, but at Texas A and M with
Jimbo Fisher. He's making the trip back to Chapel Hill. Uh.
We've got an opening at A Colorado. We've got an
opening still at Louisville. Got an opening now at Georgia

(01:18:05):
Tech with Paul Johnson leaving. But Jeff Bram had to
make a big decision. Jeff Bram, who went to Louisville,
played there with Bobby Petrino. I believe kind of followed
Bobby Petrino's path around for a while. Obviously, had even
though they only went six and six, a pretty good
year at Perdue. Scored a lot of points uh, including

(01:18:25):
forty nine on Ohio State in a performance that is
probably gonna knock Ohio State out of the College Football
Playoff barring some upsets. On Saturday, um, he had to
make a decision do I stay at Purdue or do
I go to Louisville, And yesterday afternoon he made the decision.
You know what, I'm gonna stay at Perdue. And good
for Jeff Braun for making a decision. It's gonna make

(01:18:45):
him happiest. Well, he went to Louisville Trinity High School,
and Louisville Trinity High School is a fantastic football program
in the state has produced a lot of big time players.
They shut the school down today because angry Louisville fans
called in threats to Trinity High School, the alma mater
of Jeff Brom. This is just beyond insane. They shut

(01:19:11):
the high school down because Louisville fans were mad that
Jeff Bram chose not to take the job at the
University of Louisville. Now, this is a tiny scintilla of
stupid fans, but This is next level stupidity to make
this decision and to force the school to shut down
because you're mad that somebody didn't become the coach of

(01:19:32):
your high school. There's also reports that Wiseman, who is
the top recruit in the country, James Wiseman, I believe,
was also not able to take his team in Memphis
on the road to play in Kentucky because of Kentucky
basketball death threats because he picked Memphis instead of Kentucky. Hey,
Bluegrass State, get ahold of your idiots, start to self police.

Also were brought to you by Discover Card. We treat

(01:20:37):
you like you treat you, and we're treating you well
as we start off our three, and in particular, Jerry
Jones treating the Dallas Cowboys. Well, remember a few weeks
ago when Jerry Jones made the decision to give up
a first round pick for a Marii Cooper and people
lost their minds. People said, oh my god, Jerry Jones

(01:20:57):
is an imbecile, He's a fool. General consensus was that
Amari Cooper was in no way worthy of a first
round pick. And then what has happened since that trade.
Amari Cooper has gone off. If you go look at
a Marie Cooper's performance since the Dallas Cowboys traded for him,

(01:21:20):
it is pretty remarkable. And think about this for a minute,
uh and cover your eyes, avert your gaze if you
are a Oakland Raiders fan. Here's what the Oakland Raiders
did with a Marie Cooper. In Game one, he had
one catch for nine yards. In Game three, he had
two catches for seventeen yards. In Game four, he had

(01:21:43):
one catch for ten yards. And in Game five against
the Seattle Seahawks, he didn't register a single statistical measure. Now,
he did have eight for one against the Cleveland Browns
and he had ten for a hundred and sixty against
the Denver Broncos. But there were a lot of people

(01:22:03):
out there arguing, you know what, Amari Cooper is finished
since he got to the Dallas Cowboys. And by the way,
he had one touchdown catch during his time with the
Oakland Raiders. Since he got to the Dallas Cowboys, he's
got three touchdown catches. And in that game against the
UH Washington Redskins, I don't know if the Dallas Cowboys

(01:22:26):
beat the Washington Redskins without him. Amari Cooper went for
eight catches for a hundred and eighty yards and two touchdowns,
including a ninety yard touchdown. He has started to take
the top off the defense and be a substantial playmaker
in the NFC East. He went for six catches for
seventy five yards against the Philadelphia Eagles as well. I

(01:22:48):
think tonight, if the Dallas Cowboys are going to have
a chance to pull off the upset over the New
Orleans Saints, Amari Cooper has to have a massive game.
And that is because, in particular, the New Orleans Saints
defense is number one against the run in the entirety
of the NFL usually what the Dallas Cowboys like to do.

(01:23:09):
His feed Ezekiel Elliott and take advantage of opportunities that
he opens up in the passing game. I think the
Cowboys are gonna have to be passed first, run, second
in order to beat the New Orleans Saints. I don't
think they're gonna do it. My gambling move is I'm
gonna be on the Saints and I'm gonna be on
the over in this game. But I do think it
is worth paying attention to as you move down, uh,

(01:23:31):
the the the landscape of college football too, of the NFL,
to see what ends up happening, and honestly to start
to give Jerry Jones a little bit of props about
the decision he made to give up a first round
pick for a Marii Cooper. Right now, Jerry Jones looks brilliant.
It's a storyline worth paying attention to tonight. Yes, tonight,
as we have a Thursday night football going on, UH

(01:23:54):
game going on with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the New
Orleans Saints. That is what the biggest story of the
day is gonna be in the world of sports. But
this story and this statistic blew me away, so I'm
unlock it in college football, college Football, NFL gambling show
in general, if you love sports gambling, you need to
be watching US four thirty Eastern, three thirty Central to thirty,

(01:24:14):
Mountain one, thirty Pacific, Me Cousin, Sal Todd Furman, Rachel Bonetta, Uh,
that show is on FS one. Appreciate all of you watching.
We had huge audiences for US on Monday and Tuesday.
The show continues to grow and we're having a lot
of fun doing it. It's an awesome crew to get
to hang out with and do a show every weekday
Monday through Friday. But one of the stats that our

(01:24:36):
research crew gave me yesterday blew my mind. We have
been talking about how dominant the Alabama Crimson Tide is
this year and talking about historically whether Alabama is the
best team in college football history, and it's a good debate.
We don't know a dent because like all debates, you
can argue for other teams. I say, in the modern era,

(01:24:56):
the best college football teams I've ever seen nineteen ninety
five Nebraska. That was the Tommy Frasier team that embarrassed
the Florida Gators. And Steve Spurrier in the championship game,
hung sixty two on him. Tommy Fraser still running. I
think if you are a Gator fan, you still see
that in your nightmares. Two thousand one Miami, which honestly

(01:25:17):
was as good almost in two thousand two, but they
threw the late flag that allowed Ohio State to win
that championship in Maurice Colarettes freshman year. If you remember
that game, uh, two thousand so two thousand two, UH
was was a really good team. But two thousand one
Miami was incredibly talented. And then also the USC teams

(01:25:38):
with Matt Liner, Reggie Bush, Lindell White and those uh,
those talented players. They won the title. UH in two
thousand and four, they split it with with Auburn and
a couple of other schools L s U. It's kind
of a messy situation. Two thousand three, two thousand four,
two thousand five. They lost in two thousand five on

(01:25:58):
the late Vince Young touchdown, but that USC era was dominant.
Here's something that's crazy. None of those teams did what
Alabama has done so far. The Alabama Crimson Tide has
won every single game all twelve by twenty two or
more points. And I the research crew went back and

(01:26:21):
looked at this because I've been asking the question, has
anybody ever done this before in the history of college football?
And it turns out one team has. Putting Alabama's performance
in a historical context, only one team has ever been
as good as two thousand eighteen Alabama. And I bet

(01:26:43):
none of you can get this unless you have seen
my tweet, or unless you are the greatest sports historian
of all time. The only other football team college football
team to start off twelve and oh and have won
every game by twenty or more points. That team is
Yale in eighteen eighty eight. The only other team to

(01:27:10):
win twelve games all by twenty or more. And what
is wild is several of you tagged me on that
Yale team, uh and their performance back in eight eight.
Here is what they did, so you can win every
bar bet for the foreseeable future. They beat Wesleyan up

(01:27:31):
in Connecticut seventy six to nothing. They beat Rutgers sixty
five to nothing. So it's good to know that some
things haven't changed at all. Rutgers still getting drubbed Pennsylvania.
It's the University of Pennsylvania not penn State, thirty four
to nothing. Then they played Wesleyan again and beat him
forty six to nothing. Then they beat Amherst. Then they

(01:27:53):
beat Williams thirty nine to nothing and thirty to nothing.
Then they played against m I. T and won sixty
eight to nothing. They played something called Stevens and won
sixty nine to nothing. Then they played you Pen again
one fifty four to nothing, took on Amherst again one
seventy to nothing. Then they beat Wesleyan for a third
time in the same season. This time they beat him

(01:28:16):
a hundred and five to nothing. And then can you
imagine how big of a game this would have been?
By the way, they hadn't been scored on all year.
Then they played Princeton. Princeton was also undefeated and also
had not been scored on at all all year. Big
time game. Back in November, Yale took on Princeton and

(01:28:40):
they won ten nothing. So if Alabama beats Georgia by
more than ten points, they will become the first team
to ever go thirteen and oh and beat every team
by ten by a ten or more points in the
history three of college football. Yale got into a dog

(01:29:03):
fight against Princeton back in eighty eight. It was a
battle for the ages. But that gives you some historical
relevance for how good Alabama has been. You have to
go all the way back to eighteen eight IVY League football.
I just ran you through the eighteen eighty eight Yale

(01:29:24):
football performance schedule. In order to find a team that
has been as dominant as Alabama this year, you have
to go that far back. Alabama right now is not
just competing for a national championship. They are competing for
history because if they go fifteen and oh. First of all,

(01:29:44):
they'll be the first FBS team to ever go fifteen
and oh. We've never had a team go undefeated in
the playoff era, so we've never had a fifteen and
oh team, had some fourteen and ones, never had some
fifteen and ohs. So bonn its face. They would have
more wins than any FBS team in the history of
college football. But if they continue to win all these

(01:30:05):
games by double digits, they would do something that nobody
else has done. They are on a pace right now
that has never been equaled before in the history of
college football. Now, maybe somebody's gonna be able to stand
up and beat him. Maybe Oklahoma will do it, Maybe
Ohio State will do it, Maybe Georgia will do it.
Maybe it'll be Notre Dame or Clemson. But right now,

(01:30:26):
Alabama is an unparalleled level of dominance when you look
at the entire scope in history of college football? Are
they the greatest ever? They at least are in that
conversation up there with the good old team from in Yale.
Canbama get past them? We'll see. We'll talk with Britt

us here momentarily at Britta mckinn on Twitter in the meantime,

(01:34:02):
as we grab her and get her to rejoin us,
we're talking about Alabama as only being equaled by that
eighteen eighty eight Yale team. Dub you are a Auburn fan,
do you, as much as it might pain you to
admit believe that Alabama is the best college football team
of our modern era and maybe of all time? I mean,
what we've seen the last handful of years. I don't

(01:34:24):
know how you could say otherwise, as much of that
pains me to say it, you know, I don't think
there's any doubt that Alabama is the best in modern
day dynasty. And people say is saving the greatest coach
of all time? I think greatest coach of all time
is difficult. I think he's the most dominant coach of
all time. But when you actually hear that number that
Alabama is the only team to have beaten twelve straight

(01:34:45):
opponents by twenty or more points since Yale in eight
it's almost impossible to argue that Alabama isn't the most
dominant team we've ever seen. Bret mckenry joins us now.
Speaking of dominant, she's now moved into Fox News. She
is dominant there she's at Britt mckinry on Twitter. Britt,

(01:35:05):
which do you like more? Does any part of you
when it comes down towards the NFL playoff race? Do
you miss sports? Or you loving so much what you're
doing now that you don't miss it at all? There's
parts of it that I miss and just quick caveat
I know you know this, but it's like planes, trains
and automobiles. If if I cut out of service, everyone listening.
I'm on a train to New York right now. Um

(01:35:26):
I miss Clay. I missed baseball postseason. That was probably
my favorite thing to cover. And I miss um January
like the playoff, like covering the playoffs? Um I miss that.
But I like kind of this intersection now of politics
and sports together. So it's a good fit at Fox.
So what are you doing now? I know that they

(01:35:47):
are doing now a new streaming service which is actually
gonna be really cool and and I think there's a
lot of media companies in general that are making this
move right. They are deciding that they are going to
set up subscription services. This is Fox News is kind
of toe in the water to see how this is
gonna work. You are doing what for Fox News Now.
So we have a show called un PC. So it's

(01:36:09):
like the title, we're gonna say a lot. When I
was hired, it was pretty much, we want your twitter
feed in the show for better for words. Um, and
I'm gonna be with Tyrits, who's a former wrestler. Uh
so a lot of sports fans listening probably know who
he is. And uh it's two days a week right now,
Thursday and Friday. And um, we're gonna talk like we

(01:36:30):
can talk from anything to Bernie Sanders running his mouth
again about running for president when he's he would be
seventy nine years old and twenty like it just won't
happen to um, to millennials not leaving their apartments but
you know, or like living with their parents. Like. So
we talk about a lot of just cultural issues going on,

(01:36:51):
and it can be very political or like I wrote
an offense for Fox news dot com about tigers they
went at the Tour Championship. So I think if you're
interested in in other things and just the box scores,
it's a good place for you to be kind of
like your show. So, I mean you talked about a
lot of different things as well. Yeah, we cover a
lot of ground on this show. And we're talking to
Britt mckenry and I'm assuming you're on your way to
New York to do Fox News things leaving from d

(01:37:12):
C on the train there. So thanks for getting up
with us early this morning. UM, in general, this Ruben
Foster decision you are in d C, the decision to
go ahead and pick him up after he was released
for domestic violence, another domestic violence incident. What has been
the vibe in d C? And what did you think
about it? I think it's absolutely disgusting. You know, the

(01:37:36):
Redskins clearly made the statement we don't care about women.
We don't if it means that we can pick up
a great player on the chief, we can win one
more game. We really don't care because Clay, he's been
arrested three times. And I thought a lot of people
tweet me. I don't know about your reactions, but they said,
well this this woman made up a story before exactly

(01:37:56):
I'm gonna ask you this play as a man, will
you ever go back or hang out again with a
woman who allegedly made up statements about you? Would you
ever put yourself back in that situation when you were
already suspended for two games, not just for domestic violence too,
but for marijuana possession. So he's got that three arrests.
So I'm all for second chances. But this is a

(01:38:16):
person who continually makes very poor choices. And as much
as you and I have been against you know, the
the NFL ands and protests the wrong time in my opinion,
to do that, how do you say that some of
those players are distractions but this guy isn't. It is
a fascinating question and um to me, and I said
this on the show yesterday, if you make the decision

(01:38:37):
to stay with a woman who falsely accuses you of
domestic violence taking her at her word, the second part
not the first time you have surrounded yourself not only
with a toxic relationship, but also with a lot of
people who you don't listen to. Because everybody out there
it doesn't have to be this toxic knows a friend
or a family member who's been in a relationship and

(01:38:59):
you've been like, do dude or girl, you've got to
get out of this relationship. I would not if I
were Rubend Foster. I would not be alone with this
woman without a witness. If she had gotten me almost
sent to prison for alleging something false. And I don't
know what happened now, she could be making it up again,
but he's clearly guilty at minimum of bad judgment to

(01:39:20):
put himself into this situation again or or Clay and
I do not know this is fact. I'm not reporting
on this story, but the fact that he continued to
hang out with again makes the question arise in my mind.
What's she really making it up before? Or was this
so funny involved to pay it off and he keeps
going back to her. I mean, that's that's a possible question.

(01:39:40):
And the fact that the Eagles I like that organization.
I liked covering them us here an Eagles fan Eagle FLA.
Is the fact that they actually called the police station,
what a novel concept, Clay to find out what happened
in that arrest report, and then they backed away and said,
oh no, we're out of this. But yet for of
him did not even put a phone call in until

(01:40:03):
they got backlash on social media. It's indicative of that
organization and it's just another pr disaster that the Redskins
have put themselves in. I mean, this is the same
team that wasn't an boiled lawsuit with their former general manager.
It's like they can't get out of their own way.
And you know, yeah, no, I'm glad you said that.
Now you and I both think that Kaepernick in the

(01:40:26):
way he protested didn't make sense. I work free market
people that businesses have the right to employ anybody they want.
Having said that, Britt, if I had to choose between
employing Colin Kaepernick or Reuben Foster, I would employ Colin Kaepernick. Now,
I probably would decide I don't want to employ either
of them. But if I had to make that choice,

(01:40:46):
do I want to employ Colin Kaepernick, who may alienate
many of my fans based on the way that he
has chosen to protest the national anthem based on his
own political opinions, or and people know that I've been
critical of Colin Kaepernick, Or if I had to choose
to sign Reuben Foster, who has got all of these
domestic violence incidents in his past, as well as multiple
arrests and everything else, I don't even think it's that

(01:41:07):
difficult of a call. I go with Colin Kaepernick. If
I have to choose between those two, what about you? Absolutely,
and this only puts fuel to the fire of the
Colin Craffer makes crowd you know who still for some
reason and think he'll play down in the NFL to
three years later after the you know, he began his
big protests which will never happen. But if I had
to choose one, of course, I'm going to choose the

(01:41:28):
guy that isn't beating women in his spare time, allegedly
beating women in his spare time. I mean, there's just
so many times where it's like, and this is for
any of us, if you keep screwing up, or you
keep getting in headlines where you're doing bad things. And
you know, I certainly made mistakes play in my life,
but if you continually do that, maybe the issue isn't

(01:41:49):
other people, the issue of you, and um, yeah, I
think that's well said. The issue is all This is
my big preaching moment every morning on the show. On
some level, own yourself, right, Like, if you make mistakes, fine,
it's on you. Don't look to blame other people for
things that happened to you. Ultimately, you're the master of
your ship. You are the person who makes all the decisions.

(01:42:10):
And I feel like we're in an era now where everybody,
especially in social media and this modern era, as soon
as anything happens, everybody else looks around and points to
someone else and says, but but look at that person.
That doesn't really matter to me. You look inside yourself.
You made the decisions, you put yourself in this scenario,
and Ruben Foster has done that time after time. And

(01:42:30):
here's the other thing. The Redskins say they're not gonna
play him this year, so why not just sit out
for Let him sit out for the rest of the offseason.
Figure out what happened here. Maybe this woman will say again, hey,
I made it up again. Uh, maybe he's buying her off.
Who knows what's going on. It's clearly a toxic relationship regardless.
At least then you would have more facts. This just

(01:42:51):
doesn't seem like a very good risk reward to me. No,
And I have a lot of respect for the Shanahan's.
You know, I covered both Kyle and and my and
hand in Washington, d C. And for Kyle Shanahan to
wash his hands of this, and they basically essentially gave
him a second chance as it was. I think that
shows a lot about behind the scenes character that we

(01:43:12):
don't know about and I have to last play at
the ardent fans and I respect the passion, but the
people saying, oh, well, it'll be okay, he'll be around
former Alabama teammates, Like what Like that means you're gonna
that's gonna prevent somebody from hitting a woman when they've
been alleged of it several times, Like oh, you know,
Crimson Tide, like roll tide like that. That to me
is so laughable, And it's just really hard for me

(01:43:35):
to look at the NFL in this scenario, especially the Redskins,
and say, okay, go wear paint in October. You really
care about women when you're signing this guy within seventy
two hours, play seventy two hours of the rest they
sign them or claim them off waivers. Yeah, and this
goes to something else, Britt, And I know you spent
a lot of time in media circles, so you can
think about this. I will give the Redskins credit so

(01:43:55):
far on this. One of the things that really frustrates
me is when a team does something that you know
is going to be controversial, whether you agree with it
or disagree with it, and then they immediately run as
soon as the controversy arises, Right, do you think the
Redskins had any idea how controversial this was gonna because
at least of their credits so far, they haven't run

(01:44:17):
and re released Ruben Foster, even though there's obviously been
a lot of negative attention associated with him. Did they
know what was coming and they still made the decision
or do you think they were surprised by the outrage.
I think that they just went with the decision to
try to get a player on the chief and now
they're doing damage control. And you know they've done this
several times before, but that's that's usually what you know,

(01:44:40):
you asked first and think later with some of some
of the personel in their front office. In my opinion,
all right, I got a good story for you. We
talked about this earlier on the show. I'm not sure
if you've even seen it. Um the NFL this year
has allowed everybody to kind of celebrate. There doesn't seem
to be any controversies really associated with touchdown celebrations. That
overall vibe of the league is a good one. College

(01:45:03):
football has let it be known Oklahoma and Texas are
playing in the Big Twelve title game this weekend, and
they have said, Hey, the Longhorns like to do their
hook i'm sign right, they like to flash their hook
um sign. They have said that any Oklahoma player who
does the downward facing hook'um sign is going to be
flagged for fifteen yards, will be a personal foul, It'll

(01:45:23):
be a significant penalty. Why in the world do we
need to police hand gestures in college football and put
kind of penalties in this situation? Isn't this just ludicrous?
Was about the pageantry. I thought, that's where you can
allow kids that fun. So I might have lost. We

(01:45:46):
might have lost there for sexually's on a train and
I'll bring her back. We'll bring it back here in
a sec um. But this is a controversy. Maybe redial
her right now. This is a controversy that I think
is more absurd the more time I been thinking about.
And we took a lot of calls an hour two.
If you're just waking up and you're not familiar with
this story, Oklahoma and Texas are playing in the Big

(01:46:06):
twelve championship game. It's a big game. Uh. If Oklahoma wins,
they'll be in the College Football Playoff. If they lose,
an Ohio State beats Northwestern, it's probably gonna be Ohio
State in the College Football Playoff. There are lots of
different storylines that you could latch onto, that you could
pay attention to. The Big Twelve is focused right now
on whether or not Oklahoma players are going to do

(01:46:30):
downwards hook them signs and letting it be known that
if they do, every time they see it the officials do.
That's a fifteen yard penalty. That's just utterly absurd in
my mind, beyond the shadow of a doubt of all
of the things that you could be focused on as
the college football race comes towards its conclusion, and it

(01:46:50):
also just further buttresses this argument that there's a different
standard at play for Texas as it opposed to everybody else.
If you can do the thumbs up, you should be
able to do the thumbs down. This is insane to
me that we have reached this universe in the world
of college football where this is not acceptable. We'll see

(01:47:11):
if we get britted back. If not, we'll close out
the show. My name is Clay Travis. This is outkicked

how excited were you to finally be able to say

there's so much work going into really kind of a

So you can follow Britt by the way, at Britt mckinry.
You aren't getting to cover Baker Mayfield, but a big
part of the discussion surrounding the NFL for the last

(01:48:57):
week or so has been his interact and with Hugh Jackson.
And so I want to start with this question, because
you did cover the NFL for a long time. Can
you remember one coach getting fired by a team in
the NFL and then going to work for another team
in the NFL that same year and coaching against the
team that he used to be the head coach of.

(01:49:18):
Because I can't remember that ever happening, can you? No?
I not, at least the spot in my years at
at SN But the Browns have just been a continual
dumpster fire. And I am so team Baker Mayfield in
this situation play because why on earth do you want
to defend a coach You're not thirty games him earlier.

(01:49:43):
By the way, I don't get why the national media's
went on this kid. He's been like the one bright
spot in where and that's we may have to let here.
We may have to let Britt go just because I can't.
We got the cell phone issue right now. She's on
her way to New York on the train, and I

(01:50:03):
think America's cell phone network continues to fell us all
Danny check and see if we can get a we
can get a better simulate. Here's the thing with my
my getting on the soapbox with the cell phone industry.
I was over in England for the game between the
Titans and the Chargers. I went all over England. My

(01:50:25):
cell phone was flawless throughout that entire country. How is
it that our cell phones still don't work here? I
get it back in like two thousand one, when everybody
was just getting cell phones for the first time. Why
and when I get in my car and I'm making
calls in my car, do I need to tell somebody, Hey,

(01:50:45):
I'm about to hit a dead zone here? You're gonna
lose me, and it happens every single time. If I
know that, how can the cellphone company not fix it?
Why is the American cell phone network not flawless at
this point in time? I just I don't get as
my number one technological complaint that and at this point

(01:51:08):
WiFi on airplanes. I feel like we should have figured
out WiFi on airplanes, and I feel like we should
have figured out the cell phone network number two technical
number one and number two technological complaints across the nation.
And it's true everywhere, doesn't matter what city you live in.
You're listening to me right now, in all fifty states,
every single one of you right now can tell me

(01:51:29):
a place where you know your cell phone is not
gonna work, somewhere near your home or your apartment or
your condo or wherever you're living. It makes no sense
to me. Danny G. What's the update here? Yeah, she
she was going through a bad area on the train. Well,
we'll talk to Britt again sometime in the next week
or so. But it is a pretty awesome deal for

(01:51:50):
Britt mckenry to be in that situation and get that gig.
And so you should be checking her out on Fox News.
I'm excited for her that she's got that job going forward.
And uh, she's in favor of Baker Mayfield. I think
the majority of people were in favor of Baker Mayfield.
He came out and said he wasn't gonna apologize yesterday
for calling Hugh Jackson fake. I know there's been a

(01:52:12):
huge debate that has broken out surrounding this entire topic.
I came on and I told you guys straight up,
I said, I'm team Baker Mayfield in this controversy. And
you can make the argument, yes, guess what, Hugh Jackson
is entitled to go get a job. Well, first of all,
he's working for free, so this is not really a job.

(01:52:33):
He's getting paid millions of dollars by the Cleveland Browns
because he was so bad that they decided they would
rather fire him. Since he has left, Baker Mayfield is
number two in total passer rating versus only Drew Brees,
who's playing tonight for the Saints against the Cowboys. So

(01:52:54):
not only has Hugh Jackson been fired, but since he
has been fired, his pew pool, the star reason why
he was brought in, Baker Mayfield has been infinitely better
than he was before. And as if that were not enough.
On top of that, his old team came in and
kicked the crap out of his new team. And we

(01:53:15):
were just talking with Brit mckinry. She's covered the NFL
for a long time. I cannot ever remember any coach
getting fired by a team and then coaching against that
team in the same year. In the NFL, It's unheard of.
So I don't blame Baker Mayfield for coming out and saying, hey,

(01:53:36):
this was a bad move by uh by the Cleveland
Browns too, sorry by the Cincinnati Bengals to make that
decision to bring in Hugh Jackson. And by the way,
I feel sorry for Cincinnati Bengals fans, but I have
to keep saying it, does Marvin Lewis have lifetime tenure?
Is he like a Supreme Court justice for the clear

(01:53:59):
Cincinnati Bengals, Because there's no way to justify Marvin Lewis
still having his job. I rebel against the idea of
race always being brought into the equation in the world
of sports. If Marvin Lewis were a white guy, there
would be people all the time talking about the only

(01:54:21):
reason that Marvin Lewis has his job is because he's
a white guy and the owners protecting him. That's what
you heard people saying about Jason Garrett when the Cowboys
were sitting at three and five. Oh, Jerry Jones is
protecting him because he's a white guy. He's not gonna
fire him. Jason Garrett has been infinitely more successful then

(01:54:42):
Marvin Lewis, and he's only been with the Dallas Cowboys
for half as long. Marvin Lewis is like a Supreme
Court justice when he got confirmed as Cincinnati Bengals coach.
He's been there forever and he's never ever, ever going
to actually be able to leave. It blows my mind

(01:55:03):
when you actually look at this. And the same thing,
by the way, is true of Reuben Foster. If Ruben
Foster was a white guy, all the people out there
would be like, oh, look at this white linebacker getting
chance after chance after chance. The reason why I love
the NFL and why I love sports in general is

(01:55:27):
because all that matters ultimately is your talent relative to
your problems. As long as there is at least one
team that believes your talent exceeds your problems, then you
will be employed and right now for Ruben Foster, that
one team is the Washington Redskins. And you can think

(01:55:49):
it's crazy that they signed him seventy two hours, forty
eight hours, whatever the math is after he got arrested
for domestic violence again. But the only thing it matters
when it comes to Reuben Foster is his talent. The
Washington Redskins think he has first round talent, and they
think they're getting him for free and that he one
day can plare the burgundy and gold of the Washington Redskins.

(01:56:13):
Doesn't have anything to do with his race, doesn't have
anything to do with his religion, doesn't have anything to
do with his ethnicity, doesn't have anything to do with
his sexual orientation. That's why I love sports. It's about
the meritocracy. Baby. If there were a transgender dwarf who
was an incredible quarterback, is there any doubt that Bill

(01:56:37):
Belichick would play him or her at quarterback and maybe
even deflate the football's for his tiny or her tiny
little hands to be even better than they would otherwise be.
Does He wrote out, That's all that matters is your talent.
I find that to be somewhat refreshing in this era

(01:56:58):
we're in where everybody he's perpetually offended and everybody's perpetually
outraged by something. I wouldn't have signed Reuben Foster if
I were the Washington Redskins, But at least to their credit,
they made the decision and they've stuck to it instead
of immediately buckling to the outrage brigade out there. You
make a decision, your roll with it, and guess what,

(01:57:20):
people will be outraged, and they'll be outraged for like
twenty four hours, and then they move on and you
get to continue. Speaking of outraged. L A Braun is
still going on, and for everybody waking up on the
West Coast, we're keeping people plugged in on everything going
on with Lebron James in the most outrageous, satirical, absurd

(01:57:41):
fashion that we know of. It's called l A Bron
and it sounds a little bit something like this, L Hey,
I got, I got, I got I got from the
first show in the country to predict hashtag future Laker.
Instead of three hours of it, Clay Travis captures all
the mania in three minutes. Lebron has picked up the

(01:58:03):
circus tent and it has followed him wherever he is gone. Yesterday,
Danny g you had a very limited responsibility. You could
not get the points and the rebounds right from Ron James,
and they're lost to the Denver Nuggets. Now there is
a new l a Bron drama that has emerged that
has got all the tongues wagging, and it is what well.

(01:58:25):
Two nights ago, I had a Tinder date over, which
is why I didn't have the Lakers game on full disclosure.
But there was no game to miss last night. But
there is news this morning. A report anonymous scouts say
Lebron has been ignoring Luke Walton's play calls while running
point guard in Rondo's absence. So, Clay, do you believe
this report? And if so, is it a big deal?

(01:58:46):
How often genuine on legitimate question, how often do NBA
coaches send in plays? Uh? Usually after timeouts. Yeah, it's
rare though, right by and large. And so I believe
that Lebron James could have a play that that he
has been given and then he basically calls in audible

(01:59:08):
when he sees how the play is being defended. Lebron
has played enough games where he doesn't have to mindlessly
run whatever the coach wants him to run. However, Lebron
James is a coach killer, right, asked David Blatt. Ask
Uh ask Eric Spoelstra, even though he got to keep

(01:59:30):
his job. Ask Mike Brown, asked tylu All Lebron James
does is get coaches fired. And so if I'm Luke Walton,
I would bet that Luke Walton is gonna get fired
at some point this season unless the Lakers are having
an incredible year, because Lebron James is not gonna be
happy with him. That's what l a Bron does. He rebels,

(01:59:54):
He creates a stir. He is the King Millennial. He's
always upset and his feelings are always bothered. He would
definitely be upset if somebody threw up the hook him
horn sign and he was a long horn. I'm Clay Travis.
