Eddie Garcia. So we had the MLB home run derby
on Monday night, and as you just said, right there,
ta Oscar hernandez one. I thought that was that was
not the lead story here in this one. We'll get
to ta Oscar and the drama. But the national anthem

here has gotten quite the reaction.

Remember when Fergie sang the national anthem? I think it
was during the NBA All Star Game, and it was
It was freaking terrible. It was really bad, but very memorable.
I think she's got some competition over here. This is
Ingrid andres. Are you familiar with Ingrid over here?
Speaker 5 (01:36):
I'm not, no, I I've never heard of her before.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I haven't either. I'm looking it up on Spotify. She's
got a couple of hit songs, more hearts than mine,
over one hundred and fifty one million listens right there.
We also have Wistful Drinking and that's got one hundred
and thirteen either listens or likes. Not exactly sure how
it goes on Spotify, but she's got a couple of

country hit songs. Right This was not her best. This
is not her a game before the home run derby.
This is a portion of how the anthem sounded. That's

what we're looking at, Eddie. That's uh, that's what we're
working with right there. Uh, not so good, not great,
not great. I did love at uh kind of like
midway through the anthem, she didn't exactly hit the high note.
And you can hear the crowd in the background and
try to be respectful, but they're at the same time, like, whoa,

Oh man, that was rough. It's rough right there, and
you can imagine Eddie. A lot of uh comments on
social media.

People make comments about that.

They did, yeah, comments here and there on the the
anthem right there. I like this from C. Trent Rosecrans.
He covers the reds for the Athletic. He wrote, remember
Whitney Houston's national anthem performance at the Super Bowl. This
is the exact opposite, is what he wrote. And uh,
I like the the Phillies Third Basement Alec Boem. He

actually had to hold back laughs during the anthem. They
showed him for a couple of seconds and he's kind
of doing the Draymond Green thing, you know, when Draymond
was listening to Fergie Butcher the anthem. That's what happened
before the derby, So that that was the beginning of it.
And then did you catch any of the derby Eddy?
I had it on in the background. You'd probably be

happy to know I didn't gamble on it. You might
be surprised.

I'm very, very relieved to know that you didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, I'm just not into it.

Because I didn't have a strong feeling, you know, like
I'm not into just kind of like closing your eyes
and hoping to hit a bull's eye.

Really, you actually think you're good at it?

Well, I'm not saying I'm good at it. I'm just
saying i'd rather bet on something I feel strongly about.
You know, I don't want to just.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
I'm proud of you, Brian for that. I most most gamblers,
you know, you're gonna put something on something, have some action.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah, No, I didn't have anything on it, but I
was getting ready for the show and I had it
on it. It was all right. I'll tell you what.
I saw the rules before this and I'm just like,
what are they doing? I have no idea what's going on.
I read them a couple of times and I'm like,
this is this could not be more base, like making

it as complicated as possible. And then when the derby started,
I'm like, oh, it's really not that complicated. It's just
maybe I'm just slow. I don't know. But when I
read the rules, I'm like, I have no idea, what's
going on here.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
But I thought it was smart. They've decided it looks
stupid if we have, you know, brackets and some guy
hits you know, I'm just throwing a number out there,
twenty five home runs and the other guy hits twenty six,
and they were by far the two highest totals, and
the twenty five guys out it's kind of dumb. So
they got rid of the brackets for the first round.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yeah, and that was smart. I think it's kind of
like the three Point Contest in the NBA. They don't
have brackets for that first round.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
I think I think it's probably more similar to that
because there was a limit to the number of pitches. Yeah,
you could get kind of kind of like the limit
to the number of basketballs you could shoot in the
three point.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Contest, exactly right, And that's how they started to explain it,
like the night of I wish they would have said
that earlier. I would have kind of grasped it a
little bit better. But yeah, they each hitter had three
minutes and they had forty pitches to hit within those
three minutes, and they just tried to hit as many
home runs as possible. Then there was a bonus round

after that, and YadA YadA. But I actually thought it
was a good time. I thought it was pretty fun
and there was some drama at the end. Like you
said at the top of the hour, ready, ti Oscar
Hernandez of the Dodgers. He's the first ever Dodger to
win the home run Derby in the final round.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
Yeah, crazy, isn't it a little bit?
Speaker 3 (06:28):
It is pretty? Yeah, it is wild. But he had
fourteen homers. In the final round. He was going up
against the royal shortstop Bobby Witt Junior, and Bobby had
thirteen home runs. He needed one more home run. He
had one more out and he sent a moonshot to
like left center field. And this is the way it

sounded on ESPN.

Goodlad, good lads, Gospan, this is your twenty twenty four
team all home on derby.

Chap just missed it. It looked like a couple of feet.
He just needed it.

How about that Bobby Wood Junior hits the wall on
the final hit, right, He's trying to get a home
run to tie it up, and he hit the wall,
falls one home run short. There was some dramas good
they had. Michael Buffer, I love Michael Buffer. What fight
fan doesn't love Michael Buffer with let's get ready to rumble?

Is it either he or the Rock that has to
show up for every like, you know, major sporting event.

I don't really pay attention, but I used to see
him out there, like he wasn't at the super Bowl?

I know he's done like the whole thing like.

That out there in like a tank top or whatever.

Yeah, I don't know if it was the Super Bowl,
but he's done the XFL, I guess UFL now stuff and.

He's I know he was at some NFL. I think
it was the Super I think he was at the
Super Bowl, thybe it was last year. I don't I
don't remember he's been out there. I don't know. It
just seems like it's you know, him or Buffer, they
have to be out whatever big event.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah. I haven't seen Michael Buffer as much because Bruce
Buff Buffer has been the man, right, He's doing all the.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
Well I'm a hockey guy. So they just had the
NHL draft at the sphere, not the spear as Ben
Maller would say, the spear in Las Vegas, and Michael
Buffer was was there for that, so.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Oh really did he did the let's get ready to
rumble things the craft though. That's kind of cool. Ben says,
the spear.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Does the spear, He can't say spear.

That's pretty funny, man, that's good. Did you catch any
of the home runers?
Speaker 7 (09:00):
You know?

I don't want to. It's funny because I I don't know.
My wife gets mad when I say how old I
am because she thinks that people won't want to hear
me because I'm not. But I'm turning fifty five this year. Wow.
But I still have some tendencies of a of a
younger person as far as my attention span. Yeah, so

if I'm not really invested in it, I'll just watch
like the YouTube highlights and and get my get it
in that way. I don't I don't need to watch
three hours worth of but when I got to watch
three minutes of it, so that's.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Totally understand that nothing wrong with that at all. Would
you say you have the attention span of what, like
we're talking like a twenty five year old.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
I don't know. I don't I'm not around too many
twenty five year old so I can't really say I'm
I don't think it's that bad, Yeah, but I do.
I guess I feel the younger generation as far as
I don't know if it's their short attention span or
maybe it is, But for me, it's just I just
don't have the time to invest into sports like I

used to, Like, you know, when I was younger, that's
all I did. There was like nothing else. Yeah, I'm
not you know, I look for the big events or
for something I really really care about. I will obviously
invest the time, but it's something I'm just mildly interested in.
I'm just yeah, I'm just good with the highlights now.
I don't need to watch the entire thing.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Hey, that makes sense. What did you do in the meantime?
Speaker 5 (10:22):
Right?
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Like, take me through the evening leading up to the show.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Oh, you don't want to know that. There was nothing
very curious? What was Oh, there's nothing exciting at all.
I mean there was a nap involved, and you know
that's not so much about the age though, it's about
the you know, the hours I work, I make sure
I get in a nap, you know, every day before
I come into works.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
What is your kind of like your hours of nap
time before the show?
Speaker 5 (10:46):
It depends. Today we had our neighbors getting like some
work done in their house. Usually it's a pretty quiet neighborhood,
but they're getting some work done, and so I was.
I was awakened earlier than normal, and so I felt
like I needed to get a little extra nap in before.
So okay, yeah, I had an extra long nap today.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
So you're just you're gonna be spitting fire.
Speaker 8 (11:10):
Tonight, right, Yeah, I don't know about that. Okay, all right,
I'm spitting fire every night. What are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I didn't mean to make it sound like you didn't,
you know, but I thought extra rested, revitalized the whole thing.
I could expect some hot takes from you tonight.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
You know, that sort of depends on what we talk about.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Okay, all right, I'll try to keep them in your
wheelhouse over here. You know, I'll do my best. Okay,
So all is good? Right, we got the home run
derby in very nice. Didn't start off great with the
national anthem. But we rallied. We rallied with some drama
with Ti Oscar and Bobby Witt Junior, and we had
Buffer involved there. I think there was a lot to
be gained, good stuff all the way around, solid dumbs up,

I would say.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
Yeah, I'm not bad. I'm looking forward to the All
Star Game because being a Pirates fan, Yeah, don't get
a lot of All Star games. Star. I think the
last time I remember a Pirate pitcher I think might
have been like Rick rush All. Wow in San Francisco
at Candlestick Park. I mean, you remember Rick Russell. He's

a big, fat guy out there.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
I don't really Oh my god, yeah he didn't.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
I mean he did not look like a professional athlete
I'm at all at all. It was really weird, but
he was a pretty good picture.

I'm looking forward to it tomorrow night. You know what's
funny is I just had no idea. When I was
a young kid, I didn't know, and I just had
this story popping into my head where I was I
don't know how old, Eddie. I was maybe like nine
or ten years old something like that, and my dad
and my uncle were like, hey, let's go out and

grab some pizza right now, And I'm like, it's the
All Star Game. Why on earth would we go anywhere?
I just want to watch the MLB All Star Game.
And I remember when we left to go grab pizza,
there were people out. There were people in their cars
driving wherever. And I was stunned, Eddie. I was amazed

that anybody was out of their homes and they were
not all watching the MLB All Star Game. I just
didn't realize any better. I was so young.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Have you ever gone out during a Super Bowl at all?
I know you haven't. That's a stupid question for me
to ask, but I mean, like like halftime, I don't
care about the you know this, well, maybe you don't.
You forget a lot of things, but I notoriously hate
the halftime show and it's extra long, so I always
make sure I go do something during that. And uh, yeah,
have you ever ventured out just to see you know
(13:37):
that you know, the traffic or in your neighborhood and
stuff like that during the Super Bowl. It's kind of cool.
Actually it's not a lot of people around.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Yeah, all right, so it's kind of like, I don't know,
like a Friday night, lights like Texas high school football
thing going on right where nobody's driving anywhere. You're saying,
it's like no one's around, is what you're saying, right, Yeah,
pretty much.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
I don't know about the Texas high school thing. I've
never been in Texas for high school first.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
That's what they say all the time. They're like, yeah,
there's just tumbleweed going through town. Everybody's at the game.
You know they're not doing.

No, I understand that, Yeah, no, I really have it.
I can't think there might have been some random scenario
where I caught the first half with some people and
then ran over for the second. May be something like that, Eddie.
But for the most part, I'm at one spot. You know,
I'm not messing around with that too much.

seven as the Ravens beat the forty nine Ers. Really
good kick returner. And remember the kick return he had
against the steel Your Steelers, And that was when Mike
Tomlin acted like I didn't realize I was close to

the field and he made Jacoby cut back a little
bit and he got tackled that way. That was Jacoby
on the return. Really good return guy.

Yeah. He also had a huge touchdown catch against Coops
in the playoffs. Said yeah, sure, Cooper remembers uh not
very fondly.

Yeah, and this is.

That Raheem Moore, Yeah, that was the guy Raheem Man
that was That was bad. That was really bad. And
this is where my mind went. I mean, obviously, Eddie,
it's sad. Chacobe Jones passed away in his sleep. Thoughts
and prayers obviously go out to his friends, his loved ones,
family members, all of that. But where my mind goes

in terms of like a discussion, like a topic, is
what you just brought up, right there is Coop is
a die hard Broncos fan. This is a real bitter
memory on CBS stock b stepping up and throwing deep
down the power side into the hands of touchdown Jacoby Jones.

How does that happen in the Denver secondary? Right, Yeah,
great question. It can't have. This is Dan Dierdorf doing
color for that game.

to go and Raheem Moore got beaten deep like that horrible.
So that's my question, Eddie is like, for Coop, is
that the most bitter loss you've had as a sports

baneful memories, but I'm honestly asking, is that what we
just played the most bitter loss? Is there's something else?

It's not even close.

I mean, he's lost super Bowls?

Yeah, yeah, I mean obviously the the Broncos, uh, you know,
lost to the Seahawks.

And there were and and it's it's kind of different
because I feel like, you know, losses hit you harder
when you're when you're a kid. Sure, And I remember
one time I was probably like I don't know, twelve
or something like that, and uh, the Broncos were, you know,
they're having a good season. And then there was a
couple it was a couple of seasons in a row.

I feel like this happened but they just they ran
into Peyton Manning and the Colts in the playoffs and
Peyton just whooped them.

Yeah, and I just remember I remember like crying.

But uh but you said, like biggest sports and you're
not just talking about football.

Yeah, I think the toughest loss for me in sports
can it can? It does have to be a single game.

It's the Lakers blowing the series against the Suns when
they went up like uh three, No, they were up.

were just like the powerhouse of of the West, and

we were like that game put us up and we're
like on top of the world, and then they just
just blew itches.

you've experienced as a fan.

It might very much surprise you that it comes from baseball,
which is, you know, I'm a huge hockey and football fan.
College and pro those are my two, you know, kind
of default sports. But NLCS Pirates, Braves Pirates are one
out away from the World Series. He's two outs in

the bottom of the ninth and you know a guy
who's probably driving a cab somewhere in the Dominican Republic,
Francisco Cabrera. Oh wow, it comes through with a single.
And then Sid Bream, who was a former pirate who
literally had a fake leg scores from second base on
Barry Bonds. Yeah, it was. It was a close play,

but I think that was I don't know something about
that game. I can't remember. I should probably look it up,
but something about one of the few games in the
postseason in baseball that ended where it could have been
the final out or it was going to be the
game winning hit, you know what I mean, like like
(21:43):
a walk off, but it could have ended either way
on the pitch, you know what I'm saying. Did like
Joe Carter, he had a walk off home but that
wasn't It wasn't the deciding game. You know, if he
doesn't hit that home run, they still play another game.
But this was a Game seven where literally on on
the pitch that decided it. If it's a strike, the
game's over. If it's a hit, the game's over. Well,
you know if the guy scores. But one of the

few postseason games ever in baseball that's ended in those circumstances.

That's crazy. I didn't realize it was. Like, so you're saying,
if it was Mike Lavallier.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
Yeah, the catcher was the catcher. If he tags him out,
then then it's over. It's over him.

Wow, So it was a walk off either way. It
was the end either.

Way right right right, So obviously high drama to say
the least. And I remember I've said this before on
the air, but I broke a glass coffee table table top.
I didn't mean to do it, but in anger, I
punched the There was a phone and this was before

cell phones, how old I am. But and it was
like one of those phones where when you pick it up,
it's got like the buttons on the place the thing
that you put your put up to your ear those phones.
And it had like a really long court so you
could kind of walk around the room with it. Anyway,
it was sitting on this coffee table and I punched it,
and the phone then went through the coffee table and

it belonged to my college roommate at the time, and
I remember he looked at me like, what are you doing.

You're you're insane, You're crazy first, which I can understand
in the moment that he did seem pretty crazy.

But no, that was that was probably the that's the
toughest loss that I uh that I that I remember.

That's bitter, and especially because Bonds was so great on
those Pirates teams and it just didn't work.

true or not, and it's it sounds true, but who
knows that Andy Vance, like the Pirates center fielder had
told him move up uh in the outfield and Bonds
flipped him off.

Right, So I go out and I'm like, where's my
potato ball? And I look in the trash and I
see the box in the trash with no potato ball

them was Bronnie James. Now here's the deal. A couple
of things painless points to make. First off, Bronnie James.
He made one shot. He was one for five against

a shot Eddie with about four minutes to go to
trim the deficit to eleven. Okay, the Lakers were trailing
by eleven points after he hit this jumper with about
four minutes to play. But listen to the crowd. That's

how it's undered on ESPN to James two on the
shot clock.

Crowd, appreciates it.

Loud ovation here, Thomason Mac for Bronnie James, pretty wild
right again. It cut the lead to eleven with four
minutes to go, and the crowd erupted, which, hey, whatever,
they're behind Bronnie James. That's fine, no issue with that whatsoever.
My takeaway is this, Eddie. Look, I think that you

can root for Bronnie while being real about Bronnie, you
know what I mean. Like, if you point out that
he has been horrible in Summer League action. He's seven
for thirty one from the field, he's zero for fifteen
from three point range. To some it might sound like
you're rooting against this guy. You're negative, right, It's like, no,

I'm rooting for him. I hope he makes it. I
hope that why because he didn't sign up for any
of this. He didn't no, like he didn't want to
what he didn't sign up for. He's gonna be scrutinized
for every little thing he does. He's he's not a

normal fifty fifth overall pick. They showed us side by
side picture, right, That's what I mean is they showed
a side by side picture of Lebron's first summer League
game and he's just surrounded by reporters. And then it
showed Bronni's first Summer League game a week or so ago,
surrounded by the same amount of reporters. That's only because
he's a Lebron's kid. We all know that he didn't

sign up for any of that. He can't ease in
as a fifty fifth overall pick. He's gonna be scrutinized
and criticized and all that stuff. That's why I don't
have any reason to root against him. It's like, yeah,
this is clearly nepotism, but again, that's not his fault.
He's just the kid trying to make it in the NBA.
I'm not rooting against him as far as that goes.

But I'm also not gonna hide my head in the
sand and act like he's balling out here. He's all
for fifteen from three point range, so it can be both.
Doesn't mean you're automatically rooting against him if you point
out the fact that he's been bad in four Summer
League games.

Okay, but let's not make him out to be some
kind of a victim here. I mean he's gotten He's
get so many benefits of bringing the son of Lebron James,
including having a job and getting millions of dollars. And
I'm supposed to feel sorry for him that he didn't
sign up for this.

Well, I'm not saying feel sorry for the guy. I
never said.

But why would you root for him? Why would you
root for someone who has a job that he didn't deserve.
You don't have to root against him, but root for him?

you why I root for the guy is because he's

But when you're weighing the scales of the greatness of
being Lebron jameson to the the things that are against you,

But this is the thing is it's tomato, tomato, it's
this is my personal feeling. That doesn't mean it's wrong.
Like I'm rooting for Bronnie. You might not be rooting
for Bronnie that's fine. What did we have earlier in
the show where we were talking about painful defeats, the
most bitter loss and there was a Lions fan right

and he said, oh, the sixty six yard field goal
that sucked, and that the NFC Championship game the second
half that was, you know, like the second worst thing.
And I was like, how could that be the second worst? Like,
the sixty six yard field goal is a regular season game.
The NFC title game's way worse. And what did you say, Eddie?
What did you say? You're like, up to him, it's

up to it. Well, it's up to me too, and
I'm rooting for bron James.

That's not just if. That was the only time ever
in the history of Major League Baseball, and Ken Griffy
Junior was freaking terrible. I would still think that was

he's getting somehow is outweighs all the benefits he's getting,

scrutiny he's getting is that's a bigger deal to you,
and that makes you want to root for him.

I like the the Phillies Third Basement Alec Boem. He

actually had to hold back laughs during the anthem. They
showed him for a couple of seconds and he's kind
of doing the Draymond Green thing, you know, when Draymond
was listening to Fergie Butcher the anthem. That's what happened
before the derby, So that that was the beginning of it.

I had it on in the background. You'd probably be

maybe I'm just slow. I don't know. But when I
read the rules, I'm like, I have no idea, what's

But I thought it was smart. They've decided it looks
stupid if we have, you know, brackets and some guy
hits you know, I'm just throwing a number out there,
twenty five home runs and the other guy hits twenty six,
and they were by far the two highest totals, and
the twenty five guys out it's kind of dumb. So
they got rid of the brackets for the first round.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yeah, and that was smart. I think it's kind of
like the three Point Contest in the NBA. They don't
have brackets for that first round.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
I think I think it's probably more similar to that
because there was a limit to the number of pitches. Yeah,
you could get kind of kind of like the limit
to the number of basketballs you could shoot in the
three point.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Contest, exactly right, And that's how they started to explain it,
like the night of I wish they would have said
that earlier. I would have kind of grasped it a
little bit better. But yeah, they each hitter had three
minutes and they had forty pitches to hit within those
three minutes, and they just tried to hit as many
home runs as possible. Then there was a bonus round

after that, and YadA YadA. But I actually thought it
was a good time. I thought it was pretty fun
and there was some drama at the end. Like you
said at the top of the hour, ready, ti Oscar
Hernandez of the Dodgers. He's the first ever Dodger to
win the home run Derby in the final round.

Yeah, crazy, isn't it a little bit?

It is pretty? Yeah, it is wild. But he had
fourteen homers. In the final round. He was going up
against the royal shortstop Bobby Witt Junior, and Bobby had
thirteen home runs. He needed one more home run. He
had one more out and he sent a moonshot to
like left center field. And this is the way it

if I'm not really invested in it, I'll just watch
like the YouTube highlights and and get my get it
in that way. I don't I don't need to watch
three hours worth of but when I got to watch
three minutes of it, so that's.

you say you have the attention span of what, like
we're talking like a twenty five year old.

I don't know. I don't I'm not around too many
twenty five year old so I can't really say I'm
I don't think it's that bad, Yeah, but I do.
I guess I feel the younger generation as far as
I don't know if it's their short attention span or
maybe it is, But for me, it's just I just
don't have the time to invest into sports like I

used to, Like, you know, when I was younger, that's
all I did. There was like nothing else. Yeah, I'm
not you know, I look for the big events or
for something I really really care about. I will obviously
invest the time, but it's something I'm just mildly interested in.
I'm just yeah, I'm just good with the highlights now.
I don't need to watch the entire thing.

Like, take me through the evening leading up to the show.

I mean there was a nap involved, and you know
that's not so much about the age though, it's about
the you know, the hours I work, I make sure
I get in a nap, you know, every day before
I come into works.

What is your kind of like your hours of nap
time before the show?

It depends. Today we had our neighbors getting like some
work done in their house. Usually it's a pretty quiet neighborhood,
but they're getting some work done, and so I was.
I was awakened earlier than normal, and so I felt
like I needed to get a little extra nap in before.
So okay, yeah, I had an extra long nap today.

national anthem. But we rallied. We rallied with some drama

funny is I just had no idea. When I was
a young kid, I didn't know, and I just had

or ten years old something like that, and my dad
and my uncle were like, hey, let's go out and

grab some pizza right now, And I'm like, it's the
All Star Game. Why on earth would we go anywhere?
I just want to watch the MLB All Star Game.
And I remember when we left to go grab pizza,
there were people out. There were people in their cars
driving wherever. And I was stunned, Eddie. I was amazed

that anybody was out of their homes and they were
not all watching the MLB All Star Game. I just
didn't realize any better. I was so young.

Have you ever gone out during a Super Bowl at all?
I know you haven't. That's a stupid question for me
to ask, but I mean, like like halftime, I don't
care about the you know this, well, maybe you don't.
You forget a lot of things, but I notoriously hate
the halftime show and it's extra long, so I always
make sure I go do something during that. And uh, yeah,
have you ever ventured out just to see you know

that you know, the traffic or in your neighborhood and
stuff like that during the Super Bowl. It's kind of cool.
Actually it's not a lot of people around.

Yeah, all right, so it's kind of like, I don't know,
like a Friday night, lights like Texas high school football
thing going on right where nobody's driving anywhere. You're saying,
it's like no one's around, is what you're saying, right, Yeah,
pretty much.

I don't know about the Texas high school thing. I've
never been in Texas for high school first.

That's what they say all the time. They're like, yeah,
there's just tumbleweed going through town. Everybody's at the game.

a die hard Broncos fan. This is a real bitter
memory on CBS stock b stepping up and throwing deep

of default sports. But NLCS Pirates, Braves Pirates are one
out away from the World Series. He's two outs in

the bottom of the ninth and you know a guy
who's probably driving a cab somewhere in the Dominican Republic,
Francisco Cabrera. Oh wow, it comes through with a single.
And then Sid Bream, who was a former pirate who
literally had a fake leg scores from second base on
Barry Bonds. Yeah, it was. It was a close play,

but I think that was I don't know something about
that game. I can't remember. I should probably look it up,
but something about one of the few games in the
postseason in baseball that ended where it could have been
the final out or it was going to be the
game winning hit, you know what I mean, like like

a walk off, but it could have ended either way
on the pitch, you know what I'm saying. Did like
Joe Carter, he had a walk off home but that
wasn't It wasn't the deciding game. You know, if he
doesn't hit that home run, they still play another game.
But this was a Game seven where literally on on
the pitch that decided it. If it's a strike, the
game's over. If it's a hit, the game's over. Well,
you know if the guy scores. But one of the

few postseason games ever in baseball that's ended in those circumstances.

the air, but I broke a glass coffee table table top.

like one of those phones where when you pick it up,
it's got like the buttons on the place the thing
that you put your put up to your ear those phones.
And it had like a really long court so you
could kind of walk around the room with it. Anyway,
it was sitting on this coffee table and I punched it,
and the phone then went through the coffee table and

it belonged to my college roommate at the time, and
I remember he looked at me like, what are you doing.

in the moment that he did seem pretty crazy.

toughest loss that I uh that I that I remember.

those Pirates teams and it just didn't work.

because going into overnights is almost depressing, right, like you're tired,

Right, So I go out and I'm like, where's my
potato ball? And I look in the trash and I
see the box in the trash with no potato ball

This is but I but I almost ate it, he
said that, he said, and I said, didn't you?

them was Bronnie James. Now here's the deal. A couple
of things painless points to make. First off, Bronnie James.
He made one shot. He was one for five against

the Boston Celtics. But the ovation he got he hit
a shot Eddie with about four minutes to go to
trim the deficit to eleven. Okay, the Lakers were trailing
by eleven points after he hit this jumper with about
four minutes to play. But listen to the crowd. That's

how it's undered on ESPN to James two on the
shot clock.

James going to the.

Crowd, appreciates it.

Loud ovation here, Thomason Mac for Bronnie James, pretty wild
right again. It cut the lead to eleven with four
minutes to go, and the crowd erupted, which, hey, whatever,
they're behind Bronnie James. That's fine, no issue with that whatsoever.
My takeaway is this, Eddie. Look, I think that you

can root for Bronnie while being real about Bronnie, you
know what I mean. Like, if you point out that
he has been horrible in Summer League action. He's seven
for thirty one from the field, he's zero for fifteen
from three point range. To some it might sound like
you're rooting against this guy. You're negative, right, It's like, no,

I'm rooting for him. I hope he makes it. I
hope that why because he didn't sign up for any
of this. He didn't no, like he didn't want to
what he didn't sign up for. He's gonna be scrutinized
for every little thing he does. He's he's not a

normal fifty fifth overall pick. They showed us side by
side picture, right, That's what I mean is they showed
a side by side picture of Lebron's first summer League
game and he's just surrounded by reporters. And then it
showed Bronni's first Summer League game a week or so ago,
surrounded by the same amount of reporters. That's only because
he's a Lebron's kid. We all know that he didn't

sign up for any of that. He can't ease in
as a fifty fifth overall pick. He's gonna be scrutinized
and criticized and all that stuff. That's why I don't
have any reason to root against him. It's like, yeah,
this is clearly nepotism, but again, that's not his fault.
He's just the kid trying to make it in the NBA.
I'm not rooting against him as far as that goes.

But I'm also not gonna hide my head in the
sand and act like he's balling out here. He's all
for fifteen from three point range, so it can be both.
Doesn't mean you're automatically rooting against him if you point
out the fact that he's been bad in four Summer
League games.

kind of a victim here. I mean he's gotten He's
get so many benefits of bringing the son of Lebron James,
including having a job and getting millions of dollars. And
I'm supposed to feel sorry for him that he didn't

But why would you root for him? Why would you
