Speaker 3 (00:33):
Oh what is going on? We had some fun, believe
it or not on Tuesday night. Some details right around
the corner. We are broadcasting live from the tierrack dot
com studios. Tire rack dot com will help get it
there and on Matt's selection fast free shipping, free road
hazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tier rack
(00:55):
dot com the way tire buying should be. So Eddie
caught a little bit of the All Star Game. I
had the whole game on, but you know, I was
busy and I wasn't glued to the TV the whole time.
But SA same thing.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Yeah, I was glued at the start because we talked
about yesterday. I wanted to see Paul Skeens. Yeah, and
he did get to face Aaron Judge, which was school
and has won enny of work. But that's what I
was lucked in for that, and then afterwards monitored.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, right, same thing here where Look, man, it was
funny too because Juan Soto he walked, and so we
got the matchup of Skeens facing Aaron Judge and it
was like all right, here we go. And it was
one pitch he grounded out like the ad bat was
over before you knew it. So it was anti climatic.
(01:41):
But I gotta say, Eddie, I much prefer this being
an exhibition game, cause it's it's more fun that way, right,
Like some of the miked up conversations were fun. It's
just looser. I hated that home field advantage would go
to the winning league based on the All Star Game.
I always thought that was stupid. I'm glad that it
(02:04):
doesn't mean anything now, right like just time it counts.
That was the whole slogan. I'm much happier with it
being an exhibition. I think it's a lot more fun
that way.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
I mean, I agree, I don't know if if it's
necessarily more fun. I just thought it was a total
overreaction to you know what, was obviously a rare event
where he had to tie. You know, it wasn't what
you wanted. But I thought it was, just, like I said,
way over the top. To actually tie something as important
(02:35):
as home field advantage in the World Series to what
happens in an exhibition game. I just thought that was silly.
So I'm glad they've done away with that for sure.
And yeah, I think that they've they've done a bit
of a better job with I think the player just
telling the players, hey, let's make sure we take this seriously.
And you know, I know they tried their best to
get everybody in the game and use a lot of
(02:56):
pictures and all that kind of Stuffich is fine. I
have a problem with that, but yeah, overall, it was.
It was. It was a good game. It was fairly entertaining. I'
still the uniform thing is still a thing. I just
I just hate it. But you know, I don't know,
there's got to be something better they can do than that,
because you know, like when you are monitoring like you
and I were, and you glance over, you're like, who
(03:19):
the hell's hitting? Like if you know that, you know,
guys in a guardian's uniform or whatever. At least that
gives you a little bit of a quick reference as
to you know who that is. Maybe that kind of thing,
I just, you know, I mean, maybe a Major League
Baseball doesn't like the selling point that well, you can
be more casual in watching the game and kind of
figure out what's going on as the selling point for
(03:39):
doing that. I just but it just looks weird, and
I just I'm just not a fan.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, I think I would do the exact opposite of
what they are doing, where everybody has the same uniforms.
Like let's just take the National League, same uniforms, but
they'll have the logo. Let's say there's a player from
the Cubs, right, so the Cub's logo is on the sleeves,
and then they have a Cub's hat. But it's like
(04:06):
I would do the opposite. I would have like a
full Cubs jersey just with all National League hats, you
know what I mean. I think it just catches your
eye better that way, where it still looks a bit uniform.
If you make the hats look drastically different between the
AL and the NL and you just have everybody wear
their normal jersey, I think that's better they've done that
(04:28):
before in the All Star Game. I think it looks
better that way, because, yeah, you gotta squint a little
bit and you're like, wait a minute, who is this guy?
If you see a Yankee wearing pinstripes, you're like, oh, okay,
I get it, I know who this is. I would
do it that. I'm with you on that. I think
you should have the players you use their actual uniforms
instead of wearing these boring NL and AL uniforms. It'd
(04:50):
be one thing if they were like really jazzed, uh
the like really snazzy new school uniforms or something. They
look very very boring and dull. So I don't think
the they did themselves any favors that way.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
Yeah, maybe you could, you know, trying to get both
sides happy because obviously they want to sell product. Maybe
you could have a special uniform for each team, but
it's still their uniform, right, It's still their colors, they're
still wearing their hat, but you do something to it
to make it special, so you know that this is
(05:23):
an All Star uniform. You know, if you're buying it,
if you want to get that special All Star uniform,
but it still is in the spirit of what those
teams uniforms are. No, I mean yeah, that would be
to me a compromise where you can still recognize immediately
what team that guy plays for, but it's also something
different and special that you could.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Sell, right if it was like I'm a Cardinals fan, right, Eddie.
So if it's a Cardinals uniform and it's got some
type of All Star Game patch, I'm much more likely
to buy that jersey than I am. Like this generic
National League uniform with the guy's name on the back
of the number. It's like, who's buying that? You think
(06:02):
you're gonna bump into people wearing like National League and
American League jerseys. No, for the All Star Game, I
don't think that's the case. But it was fun. I
enjoyed it. You had Jared Duran from the Red Sox.
He was named MVP, hit a two run homer, a
lot more scoring than was expected. Right. The total, if
you're into that sort of thing, Eddie, was seven and
(06:23):
there were three runs scored. Right away. Otani went yard
three run homer, and then the American League came right back.
They scored three, or vice versa. The American League came
right back they scored three runs, so you normally don't
see six runs and basically one inning right there. But
I thought it was fun. I give it a thumbs
up across the board. We did get, Eddie. Related to
(06:46):
the All Star festivities, we got an apology. Yeah, so
this might have been the biggest news with all the
All Star festivities. It was the national anthem gone wrong?
You see this the follow up to it, Eddie. Yes,
so our girl Ingrid Andres she messed up the national
anthem pretty badly before the home run derby on Monday.
(07:09):
Just so we're all on the same page, Eddie. Not
for anything, you know, dramatic effect, a bit of the
rendition from Ingrid on Monday that yeah, the crow whoa
(07:29):
not exactly hitting the high notes there. Well, she came
out with the statement, Eddie. In an apology, she wrote,
I'm not gonna bs y'all. I was drunk last night.
I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the
help I need. That was not me last night. I
apologized to MLB, all the fans and this country I
(07:51):
love so much for that rendition. I'll let y'all know
how rehab is. I hear it's super fun XO Ingrid,
So hey us in up, we're pulling for her. I
believe her that she had a few before the anthem.
It definitely sounded that way, but explains it.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
It certainly explains a little bit of it. If she's hammered,
then yeah, sounded like somebody drunk singing.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
It did sound like that. It definitely had that effect.
So look, if she really does need this help, I
hope she gets it, and I hope she's all good.
I do find this funny, though, Eddie, because some people
rushed to her defense and we're saying, oh, I mean
the Global Life Field. This was the Athletics, Levi Weaver. Okay,
(08:40):
so rushing to the aid of Ingrid. This is an
independent singer and songwriter, right writes for The Athletic and
admitted that Global Life Field doesn't boast the best acoustics. Okay,
this is what Weaver wrote. This is after Ingrid butchered
the anthem on Monday. I toured for ten years as
(09:02):
a musician, and if you offered me a shot to
sing in this place, I would give it a hard pass.
Hard pass. It's hard to sound good in there. So
I tried to blame it on the field over there.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Yeah, I'm sure you know, if a true professional singer
was in there, it would sound just fine. I'm sure
they've had plenty of anthems at Global Life Stadium, probably
one for every home game, right, and I'm guessing they
most of them sounded pretty good. So I'm not buying it.
Although I've long been critical of the pre recorded national anthems,
(09:38):
which do happen mostly at the Super Bowl from what
I understand. Famously, the Whitney Houston amazing rendition in the
Super Bowl in Tampa was actually lip SYNCD and she
recorded that, which took a lot of the luster off
it for me. But I've always said, look, if you're
a professional singer and they're paying you, I guess the
super Bowl they don't pay them. Is that the legendary story.
(10:00):
Don't actually pay them to do it in the super
Bowl because they're getting so much off of it.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I know that's for the halftime.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Okay, not the anthem. You're right, maybe it is halftime,
but regardless, I've always thought, if you're the superstar and
you're being paid to sing the anthem, to not actually
sing the anthem is bull crap. But this is an
argument for the other way. I guess if you're saying, well,
something goes wrong and blah blah blah, then this would
(10:26):
be an argument the other way. But I still I
still want them to actually sing it, even if they
screw it up in that dead look. This brought a
lot of attention to the All Star Game. Whether whether
it was good or bad, we're talking about it, so
there was there's always that.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Yeah, not all bad for MLB. I'd argue, not all
bad for Ingrid. I didn't know this. Did you know
her before? I didn't either. She's got some really popular songs,
depending on the music that you listen to or the
genres that you're into. Well, if you.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Believe there's no bad publicity, then I guess you would
agree with that. But I'm not somebody who believes that.
I think sometimes bad publicity is is bad and it
hurts your career. And I know she's come out with
this statement now, and you know, hopefully she's I don't
know what should I say, Hopefully she's telling the truth,
because if I say that, then I'm hoping that she
actually has a problem, right, But I mean, I mean,
(11:18):
I hate everything as a conspiracy but you know, let's
be honest, if if she were going to make a
play to explain herself, this is the perfect play because
now she generates sympathy for herself and she's explained why
it was so bad. If not because I'm a talentless
you know nothing, it's because I was drunk. So I mean,
it is a smart play if it was a play.
I don't know if it is or not. But yeah,
(11:39):
I don't. I don't think this like because look, if
you're someone who was on the fence about seeing her perform,
I'm probably not gonna go see her now because she
was terrible.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Wait so wait, you think she's just gonna be hammered
every time she's going to rehab?
Speaker 4 (11:56):
You know, Yeah, I'll tell you this. It doesn't help.
It doesn't help her in any way.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I don't get it.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Are you gonna go see her in concert because you
felt sorry for Well, maybe you would because you feel
sorry for Brownie James, So maybe you would do that.
I don't know about I would not.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
We are gonna get back into the oh God, but
there's this story that we have to get into around
the corner. You'll actually enjoy this, But I'm with you,
let meet you halfway. I think there are times, definitely
where there's such a thing as bad publicity. Yes you're
getting talked about, Yes your name is being discussed, but
(12:32):
this is overall a bad thing that absolutely happens from
time to time. But I think this with Ingrid and
she's going to rehab. Yeah she screwed up the Anthem,
but it's not like the biggest black stain on her career.
And I think there are a lot of people like
you and me. We didn't even know about her now
we do now going forward, if she's I don't know,
(12:55):
she's on the Country Music Awards and they're like, hey,
performing live Ingrid, andres be like, oh, it's the girl
from the Anthem. I want to see how she sounds
right now. I don't think this hurts her at all.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
I would be like, well, first of all, I wouldn't
be watching that show, but it just it will. Just
for the sake of argument, I'd be like, wow, let
me see what else is on. I don't need to
hear this, you know, I don't want to. There's some
things I could say on one day, but.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
I hear you. I just think it helps her notoriety,
that's all I mean. I think that her fans aren't
going anywhere, and I think people like you and me
are at least aware of her. I don't think that's
a bad thing, you know. I don't think it's just
like a boycott across the country where they're like, screw
this girl, I'm out from now on because she messed
up the anthem. I think people are more times than now,
(13:41):
they're having fun with this. We're like, yeah, she screwed
it up, Hopefully she gets clean. I think that's largely
the feeling.
Speaker 2 (13:48):

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Oh, this is a juicy rumor. But is that all?
It is?
Speaker 6 (14:38):
That?
Speaker 3 (14:38):
And just about thirty seconds we are broadcasting live from
the tierrack dot com studios ti iraq dot com. We'll
help get you there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection nover ten thousand recommended installers tirack
dot com. The way tire buying should be, so out
of you out hit on this. Briefly, there's been a
lot of rapport. It's about raiders wide receiver Davonte Adams
(15:04):
getting traded and getting traded specifically to the Jets to
link up with Aaron Rodgers yet again. So you go
all the way back to February. NFL Networks Ian Rappaport
he reported that Aaron Rodgers was recruiting Davonte Adams earlier
this week on Monday, you had Boomerisias in of Wfan.
(15:28):
He said a deal might happen before the twenty twenty
four season kicks off. So Davante's agent's they got involved
here and they released a statement to ESPN's Adam Schefter,
and that statement reads, this is baseless, unfounded speculation, and
Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there
(15:49):
has been absolutely no trade talk period, is what the
agents say. So they pushed back in a major, major
way here, Eddie. So let me ask you this is
this just a juicy rumor. We're trying to connect the Dots, Rogers,
Lincoln back up with Davonte Adams and that's all it is.
You expect Davonte and Silver and Black all season or
(16:12):
for him to be on the move. What do you
think is going to happen this year?
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Well, I personally, I hope he's on the move because
being a Freso State fan, I root for my fellow
Bulldogs and would like to see him in a better position.
Plus it would help me and my wife wouldn't trash
him anymore because she hates the Raiders as a Charger fan.
I don't know why the Raiders would want to get
rid of him. I mean, he's one of the you
(16:36):
know these the best offensive weapon they have, so why
would you why would you want to get rid of him?
I can understand why the Jets would want to get him.
Like I said, I'd like to see it happen. Do
I think it's going to happen? Probably not.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Yeah, I think the chances are better than not that
it doesn't happen that Davante goes to the Jets. I
hope it does, just for the dry of it. This
was Dan Orlovski on Get Up on Tuesday, Eddie. He
was talking about this and he made a prediction.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Check it out.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
Yeah, I think Devanta Adams plays for the Jets this season.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
The reason why I say that is this. Have you
watched Netflix The Receiver? Have you seen it?
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Have you seen the frustration from Devonte Adams? If you're
the Jets, why would you not? You have to make
this work If you don't win the Super Bowl. This
is going to be one of the more disappointing acquisitions
and runs and wasted talented teams that we've seen in
the NFL in many years. I think this is a
done deal. At some point Devonte Adams places for the
(17:36):
Jets this season.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Okay, it's a done deal to Vante going to gain Green.
I don't know how you could say it's a done deal.
Maybe it happens, but certainly not Now. This was. We
played a little bit of this, but we were up
against it at the end of an hour. We couldn't
react to it, Eddie. Last night, this was DeVante Adams
on this Netflix show. Have you seen any of this Receiver?
(17:58):
I saw the first episode. That's all I've I've been
able to check out. But very well done Davante's there.
Have you seen this yet, Eddie.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
I've heard the audio, but I have not watched the show.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Oh man, this audio is tremendous. This is Davante Adams,
not exactly thrilled with how things are going with the Raiders,
and in particular about midway through, Jimmy Garoppolo overthrew him
against the Lions when he was wide open, and uh,
Davante acted like I do when I lose one of
(18:27):
my bets. You know, it's not pretty. Here's Davante.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
I gotta get if I lose my life.
Speaker 6 (18:33):
I have never been hit this many times in my career.
Every game I get.
Speaker 7 (18:38):
Into the deep territory looking for Adams and he finished it.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
He was all alone.
Speaker 8 (18:45):
Now will be as open as Davante is going to
be in his life.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
Bro man.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Yeah, a little frustrated right there, Eddie. I get it right.
It's kind of crazy. If you look at his numbers.
I looked at it before the show, Eddie, if you
ballparked it so the first year he had Derek Carr,
but last year. If you don't have his numbers memorized,
and I certainly didn't, what would your ballpark it right now?
(19:24):
I wouldn't know. I've got the answers here. I'm like
the late great Alex Trebek. I would not know. But
if you ballparked Devonte with the quarterbacks he had last season,
what would you guess his catches, yards and touchdowns look like?
Just take a random guess, no judgment here.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Oh lord? How many yards he had? How many catches
he had?
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Yep, catches yards, touchdowns?
Speaker 4 (19:51):
I'll go, I don't know. Eighty catches. Well, I'm sure
he had over a thousand yard I'll say a thousand yards.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Okay. How many touchdowns do you think?
Speaker 4 (20:06):
Ten?
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Okay? Not bad? In the ballpark he had one hundred
and three catches for eleven hundred and forty four yards
and eight touchdowns, So I think you're close on pretty
much everything. The one was like, wow, he still got
to over one hundred catches with those quarterbacks with Jimmy
g overthrowing him with the rookie and Aidan O'Connell, he
(20:30):
still had one hundred and three catches.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Well yeah, kind of no one else to throw to you.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Yeah, a little bit. I don't know what happened to
Hunter Renfro. He had a great year a couple of
years ago, and it's like they didn't even really look
his way. They have Michael Mayer, the young guy, young
tight end, but Davante is still he's still one of
the top receivers and he's just being wasted without them
having a real quarterback in uh Las Vegas. But he's
(21:00):
still putting up numbers that year with Derek carr Eddy
his first year in Vegas, one hundred catches over fifteen
hundred yards and fourteen touchdowns. Like he's put up numbers
even in Vegas with the Raiders. It's just the team
hasn't won that much and you sort of overlook what
(21:20):
he's doing individually. This was something else that I found interesting.
Warren Sharp right, he's all over a football makes all
these observations. He tweeted this ady. He wrote, DeVante Adams
was targeted twenty six times on deep balls. Of twenty
plus yards last year. Okay, he had zero drops on
twenty six targets, but he caught only four of twenty six.
(21:44):
That's because nearly sixty percent of the targets were inaccurate,
the most of any receiver in twenty twenty three or
twenty two, or twenty one or twenty twenty. He wrote,
poor guy is just doing cardio. Yeah, it's like I
can't get him the ball and he's still putting up numbers.
I would love to see him with an actual quarterback.
(22:06):
I really would. And even as a Finns fan, i'd
be lying to if I said it'd be more interesting
with Davonte in New York with Aaron Rodgers, right, It's
way more interesting there than him sitting there with the Raiders.
I hope they move him. I hope he ends up
there or somewhere else, doesn't have to be the Jets.
I just don't want him there on the Raiders this year.
(22:28):
He's too good to be wasted like that.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Well, you are proving your statement when you said you're
more of an NFL fan than a Dolphins fan, because
I can guarantee you I would not want to see
him on another team. In the in the AFC North
against my Steelers, So I guess you're you're a man
of your word there, But yeah, I know it would
definitely make things more interesting if he was in New York.
I just I still don't think it's going to happen. Yeah, though,
(22:52):
I will say this about the soundbot you played, Okay,
I mean it's it's interesting. I get why people are
reacting to it. But does I mean that's what wide
receivers do that on every game.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
With that's true, I was open.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
I mean always, uh, if you're not getting touchdown judges,
they're always unhappy and they're always complaining and bitching about it.
So that's nothing new at all. It's not like that
SoundBite with some sort of a revelation.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Yeah, it's valid. Yeah, if you miked up most of
the receivers in the NFL, if you miked up Eagles
receiver AJ Brown. Remember he had a lot of hissy
fits on the sideline for the Eagles and had a
great beginning of the season. But how many weeks did
we talk about AJ Brown just kind of self destructing
(23:39):
because they're not getting him the football if they were
micd up footage of Aj Brown, it'd be like, oh gosh,
he needs to get out of Philly right away. You know,
he's just upset in the moment. That's a good point.
That's a good point. I put it this way, right,
If my team is in the playoffs, side, I want
them to win, obviously above anybody else, even if it
(23:59):
would be a sexier matchup, right, But if my team
isn't in the playoffs or get bounced from the playoffs,
I'm as excited about the playoffs as I would be
if my team were there. That might sound like a
crazy statement, but I don't lose any steam. I'll put
it that way, right, Like the Dolphins lost to the
(24:20):
Chiefs in the wild card round, I wasn't like my
team's out. What do I care?
Speaker 4 (24:26):
You know?
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Do you go? Are you different than that, Eddie? Are
you still as fired up? You lose some steam if
your Steelers are bounced?
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Uh No, I would agree with that. I mean, playoff
football is still playoff football. Playoff anything is still you know.
I mean yeah, even like I'm not a huge huge
baseball fan because my team is not that great, but
I do enjoy playoff baseball. I mean I will watch,
you know whatever, the games are in the postseason. In baseball,
(24:56):
I'm probably not gonna watch though some big regular season
matchup if I don't have a rooting itach. But yeah,
I know I'm you know, even if the Steelers you know,
are out earlier don't make the playoffs, I'm still in
on the NFL playoffs for sure.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
Yeah, and the regular season too. Man Like if my
fins have a down year, I don't care in terms
of the rest of the league, right it doesn't If
it's Thursday night and it's like the Panthers and the Titans,
I will watch that freaking game from beginning to end.
I don't care. I'm crazy like that with the NFL.
(25:27):
So that's where I say I might need a meeting
or something. But yeah, I think I'm a bigger NFL
fan than I am a fan of my team, and
I love my team. So I don't know if people
agree with that or not if they're the same way,
but that's how I am.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Hey, Eddie, were you ever an autograph guy in your
younger days? Like before you're in radio and all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I kind of still am I still are. Yeah, I don't.
I'm not gonna wait outside somebody's hotel room or whatever.
Not hotel room, but like hotel I guess like some
of the I would never do that, but I have,
you know, if there's a fan event or like, for example,
(26:17):
I was at the Hall of Fame and I saw
that Dermante Dawson autographs, so I and I made sure
that before we went. I bought a Dormanti Dawson jersey, yeah,
and had him sign it. So yeah, I would never
like buy an autographed item from someplace, not just because
(26:39):
I'm not totally sure if it's you know, legit, but
I like to have a story behind. Like I just did,
like buyd somebody signing something and I saw him at
a place or whatever. I yeah, that's cool. I usually
de jerseys autographed. We went to We went to a
super Bowl event when the Super Bowl is here at
so Far and they had just very curious NFL people
(27:02):
signing autographs. I got Cornel Stewart to sign a Steeler's
mini helmet. Yeah, so yeah, you.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Have those in you know, did he put slash on it? No,
he did not he just his name. Yeah, yeah, with
a little ten was on there y yeah, there you go. Yeah.
I bring this up because Jason Tatum with the Celtics.
He's got an autograph story about Lebron James. Okay, this
goes back to when Jason Tatum was eleven years old.
(27:29):
He now plays for the Celtics and all that. So
they're both playing for Team USA, and so he recently
told Lebron about the time Lebron blew him off when
he wanted an autograph as a kid. So check out
this conversation. It's pretty funny.
Speaker 8 (27:44):
He kind of told me no. In Memphis a long
time ago. Larry Hughes is my dad best friend. They
played on the Caves together. My mom took me to
a game in Memphis. I wanted to meet Lebron and
I wanted to get a picture with him in an
autograph and there's a lot of people back there. He
was like, I'm out, I gotta go, and I got
in the car and started crying.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
But we cool now. He had me from autographing. I
give it to him.
Speaker 7 (28:08):
I was like, I love it.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
That's why you dunked on me though, That's why you
dunked on me in the convers finals to get back.
By the way, that's why you had that haircut. That's
how you had the haircut when.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
You played some Yeah. So Jason Tatum eleven years old,
all excited. Hey, my dad knows Larry Hughes. Larry Hughes
is on the calves. I'm gonna get Lebron's autograph. Man,
it's gonna be awesome to get a picture. Lebron's like,
I gotta go, I'm out of here. And then Lebron
was talking about It was the twenty eighteen Conference Finals
(28:40):
and Jason Tatum, as a rookie, dunked on Lebron in
Game seven, So that's what they were talking about.
Speaker 7 (28:45):
Lebron is just remarkable though. Yeah, why I say that, Coop,
that that that can be a story And now here
he is. You know, Tatum in the NBA one of
the best players, and Lebron is still one of the
best players. Yeah, it's just crazy.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
It is crazy. You an autograph guy, Coop. You've been
around some major stars.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
Yeah, I mean I have some some pretty cool autographs.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Have you ever gotten blown off for an autograph?
Speaker 7 (29:13):
Yes, I don't have time to tell the story right now.
But I was at an Angels game. Uh oh, yes,
Garrett Anderson, it was a I'm going.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
To bring this back up. I want to hear the
Garrett Anderson where Coop's like, hey, mister Anderson, He's like,
get out of my freaking face.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Thank you, Eddie. Have you ever been blown off for
an autograph? We brought up the whole autograph thing because
Jason Tatum of the Celtics he had an autograph horror
story where Lebron blew him off at one Have you
ever been blown off for an autograph?
Speaker 4 (29:50):
No, because all the settings in which I get autographs
are some sort of event that I go to where
the guys are signing. Yeah, sometimes they're pay sometimes they're free.
But no, so no, I've never like tried to get
an autograph of somebody I just saw out in the wild.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Yeah, okay, I want to know about Coop's story here.
So Garrett Anderson, very good play. I had some really
good years for the Angels. Were you a big fan
of Garrett Anderson there, Coop?
Speaker 7 (30:21):
Yeah, I mean I've I've always been a big Angels fan.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Okay, so you go up and you're like, mister Anderson
and he's like, how did it go down?
Speaker 7 (30:29):
Well, my dad and I used to after the games
go wait by the like player exit, like the player
parking lot where they you know, come out after the
game they go to their cars. I don't know if
it's even like like that anymore there or anywhere for
that matter, because we used to do that at Dodger
Stadium too, but we would go and wait and like
(30:51):
you know, ask for for autographs, and I just remember
and and look, there were probably other players that declined
to sign things to you, but you know, Garrett Anderson
was one of the best players on the team, and
I was like, I was a big Gared Anderson fan,
and he just you know, it's not like he singled
me out. There were other people there trying to get autographs,
(31:12):
and he was just one that just kind of like
walked He just like walked past, like kind of ignored everybody.
He went straight to his car, and then Tim Salmon
came out and signed everything for a bunch of people,
and that was really cool. So yeah, I had always
been like since that moment, like Tim Salmon was my
favorite angel is that?
Speaker 3 (31:31):
Uh? Do you guys have any favorite autograph stories, you know,
like you mentioned Dermani Dawson. What's like the crown jewel
for you?
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Eddie?
Speaker 3 (31:39):
What's the top of the list for you? Autograph wise?
Speaker 4 (31:43):
That's a good question. Probably. Luke Robotie of the La
Kings Bea was a Hall of Famer. He was the
highest scoring left winger in anjel history until Alexandrovechkin broke
his record. He was he was drunk. Uh well, he
was good. He was feeling good. He had had a
few cocktails in him and he was he was more
(32:05):
than happy to sign it. And he's like it was
like the old school King's jerseys that he you know
that he wore back of the day and he was
just like, oh man, this is a beautiful jersey. I
love this jersey.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Nice.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
Yeah, So he was, he was feeling he was feeling good.
He was, he was, he was more than happy to
uh to sign it.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
It sounds like he's from New Zealand or something.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
He's French Canadian.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Yeah that's cool, you coop, you got a top of
the list autograph there?
Speaker 7 (32:33):
Yeah, Well, the top one is kind of a sad story. Actually,
Oh wow, uh so is Magic Johnson? Yeah? And I
got his autograph before I was even into sports, really
before I was into basketball. We were on the Tonight
Show together with Jay Leno, and I got him somebody like,
(32:57):
you know, Magic Johnson's on the show and he's like,
somebody's like here, I've got you know, a basketball card
you should get Like, you know, I've got a bunch
of them. Can you get me, you know, a signed
card and you can keep one of the cards for yourself.
And I was like, okay, yeah, and I don't know,
just as like a kid, I would have it. I
had it somewhere in my desk. I didn't have it
like displayed somewhere. Yeah, and I don't know where it is.
(33:21):
Oh wow, Yeah yeah I lost it right there. But
besides that, the ones that I do still have carme alone.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
That one was really cool. He was on an episode
of a TV show that I did, and we played
we played some one on one before the tapeing. Nice yeah,
and I was because that was something we used to
do with the crew like before like hit like the
taping in front of the live studio audience every week
and we would, you know, have a little pickup basketball
game outside the dressing rooms. And he came like he
(33:53):
was walking to the stage to do his scene and
he saw us playing. He's like, he's like, oh, you
want to play? And I was like yeah, And so
we did like a little one on one and I'm like,
you know, I'm like driven the ball and I'd go
to like drive to the hoop and get old lamp
and he just he just smacks the rap out of
the ball, like sends it like twenty feet the other direction.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
That's awesome.
Speaker 7 (34:14):
Yeah, and then he ended up signing the basketball for me.
So that was that was a cool one.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
I'll tell you this story real fast. By the way,
we're gonna get to the Queen of Hearts right after
Eddie's update, So if you have any questions for Lorena,
hit us up hashtag at Queen of Hearts or call
in more than Welcome eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
We'll just do that in a couple of minutes here
real fast. You like this one, Eddie, because Jerome bettis
(34:39):
that's probably my favorite autograph story. So you know me,
I'm from South Bend and so when I would get
autographs as a kid, I would just go to Notre
Dame campus and they would always talk about Jerome loving
the bowl, like he's a big bowler, and so I would.
I would see Jerome every now and then, and so anyway,
(35:00):
I just I made this like collage. It's just like
pictures of Jerome from like Blue and Gold or the
paper or whatever. And I gave that to him and
he's like, hey, come here, and he got me this
picture of him and he signed it and he's like, hey,
hopefully we can go bowling one day and he went
with me and my dad. We went bowling with Jerome
(35:20):
bettis what. Yeah, he came out. It was awesome. We
went and got like king GHI ros like, we got
his ball redrilled. He had to get the thumb hole
like resized. And we went bowling and he came out
to the house. He hung out for a little while.
He did he drank from a care Bear's glass. It's
(35:41):
a true story. And I remember I was like, hey, Jerome,
you want to go throw the ball around? He was
like no, he just said no, and I saw him.
I was in Houston for Super Bowl week when it
was the Patriots. They're huge comeback against the Falcons, and
Jerome was there on radio row and there was an
(36:01):
opening for me to go up to him and say hey.
I didn't want to be the guy that was like, hey, Jerome,
do you remember when? And he just has this blank
stare and he plays it off like, oh, yeah, yeah,
I totally remember that. Like who the hell is this guy?
So I always was curious if he would remember that
or not, but I haven't. I haven't asked him if
(36:22):
he does recall that, but it was awesome
