degree day for what the tenth day in a row
here in Las Vegas. I am not Ben Maller, i
am not Archie Bell on the drills. I'm not Kim Kardashian.
My name is Bernie Fowler. Yes, we are coming to
you live from the tyrac dot com studios here in

(00:23):
Las Vegas.

Speaker 2 (00:25):

free road hazer protection, and over ten thousand recommend an
installers tyraq dot com. The way tire buying should be
absolute jam pack show Tonight, we're going to cover it all.

(00:46):
always look forward to hearing from you. We've got some
provocative topics. We're going to solve some of the world's
problems around midnight. But we lead with a interesting story
or I understand uh uh. By the way, Lorena, I'm
begging here, you might want to te up the laugh track.
You'll hear the punchline. Yes, we beg sometimes. Lebron James

(01:13):
was walking down the beach this past week and he
came across a lamp and he rubbed it, and a
genie came out and says, oh my god, are you
a genie?

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Do I get?

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Do I get three wishes? And the genie says, no,
I'm not a genie. I'm actually God. You only get
one wish, but I'll grant you whatever you want.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Lebron was really.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Because yes, he says, well, you know what, I'd like
to go to Hawaii, but I want to drive there.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I want to.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
I think that'd be really cool. Could you build a
highway over the ocean? And he goes, oh my god,
that's a tough one. I don't even think I can
do that, and Lebron says you can't. He goes, well, well,
is there anything else you want anything?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Well, could could you maybe could you make my son
Brownie a legitimate NBA player? And Cohn says, Lebron, you
want that highway in two lanes or four lanes? Me
out anyway? Little technical stuff tonight, Never mind all that?

(02:13):
All right, Look, we have an interesting phenomenon happening here
in about twenty four hours in Las Vegas, actually less
than that. You know, throughout the years, it's incredible the
amount of talent that's come through Las Vegas and perform
from Frank Sinatra to Elvis the Dean Martin, A Taylor
Swift to Seline Dion, the Lady Gaga, Barry Manilow, Shania Twaine,
Rod Stewart, Wayne Newton, Nadell.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Forget it. We'll be here all night if I'm naming
all of them, Ben mallor all Tons.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Right, well, Las Vegas is about to grace itself, grace
itself with a gentleman by the name of Bronni James.
And believe it or not, believe it or not, I
understand that the Thomas and Mack has sold out tomorrow night.
It's happened before. But we're talking about Lebroni or Bronni Jeames.

(03:01):
And how dare you say that Bronnie James hasn't earned this?
How dare you He's spent nine months in Savannah James stomach.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
He earned it.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
I submit to you, anybody listening in eighteen hundred countries,
in four thousand languages and thirty two time zones tonight,
if you spent nine months in Savannah James stomach. I
submit to you. You've earned a right to be drafted
fifty fifth by the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
He earned it. He was second team All league in
his high school league.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
He which four point eight points a game at usc
for a team that was eight and twelve. He came
off the bench, and have you seen him play. He's
brilliant at getting back on offense. I know some guys
get back on defense. He gets back on offense, runs
straight to the corner and stands there like a cigar
store Indian.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
He's brilliant at that.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I don't think I've ever seen anybody do that as
well as he has. Okay, I digress. Let's have some
straight talk here for just a minute. You know, the
Dictionary defines curiosity as a strong desire to learn or
know something. Let me take you back to two thousand
and three. I was so CBS Radio in Detroit March
in two thousand and three. There was a player getting

(04:15):
all kinds of accolades from Saint Vincent Saint Mary High
School down in Cleveland, and his name was Lebron James.
I wanted to see what all the excitement was about,
and so why I drove around the lake two hour drive,
lovely drive to Cleveland, and I went and watched him,
and my curiosity was satisfying. I looked at this guy

(04:35):
and the first thing I saw was a legitimate NBA body.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
So wow.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
He's built like a linebacker. He handled the ball like
a guard. He had tremendous handles, he had superb court sense.
The hype was real. He could really play, and now
that he was unselfish. I've seen a lot of high
school stars that insisted on scoring sixty points a game.
Lebron James wasn't like that. In two thousand and three,
and by the way, I remember thinking myself, if this
guy's really projectable, you could put him in an NBA

(05:03):
game and he'd be okay. Sure enough, seven months later
he wasn't an NBA game for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and yes,
he was okay.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
You know.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Later on I moved to Las Vegas in twenty ten,
I became curious again. There was a sixteen year old
baseball player. His name rhymes with Bryce Harper. He'd been
on the cover of Sports Illustrated. It's supposed to be
a senior in high school, but he's playing for the
College of Southern Nevada. Turned out they had a doubleheader
two days after I moved here, and I was kind
of bored here. I drove down there. He had twelve

(05:34):
at bats, he was nine for twelve with three home runs,
and he obviously has lived up to the hype. Bryce
Harper Sports Illustrated just happened to be there that day. Now,
in twenty twelve, when I was doing Rebel Extra for
ESPN Radio here in Las Vegas, a pre and postgame
show for the run of Rebels basketball team, which I
did for about seven years, we had a player by

(05:55):
the name of Anthony Bennett who was all.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
World, all World.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
He had an ok K college career at UNLV, ended
up getting drafted number one overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers,
and you already know how that worked out. He's been
labeled maybe the biggest bust of all time, and you
know he had take to put bad labels like that,
but sometimes you got to tell the truth.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
But there were red flags.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
I saw him getting beat routinely and on back door
cuts against the likes of Air Force. I knew he
whether or not he was going to be a service
of an NBA player, I didn't know, but I knew
he was not worthy of a number one draft choice.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
There are there were red flags right and left. Now,
I'm going.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
To withhold full judgment on Bronni James for a year, okay,
But that doesn't mean I can't have opinions. I'm paid
to have opinions. And if we look back a year
from now, people are going to ask us, well were
their red flags? I get Lebron James wants to play
with his son. That's what this is all about. The
minute he wanted him drafted. That's James the dynamic. You

(06:58):
want to bring him into camp even though he didn't
deserve it, he's not good enough, give him a chance.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
You want to play with him. Fine, I'm okay with that.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
There's an unwritten rule in the world that if you
grow up and you become the all time leading scorer
in the NBA, and you win four championships with three teams,
and you go to the Lakers and you put fannies
in seats, you get to have your son play with
you in the NBA, whether he's good enough or not.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Will there be red flags?

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Well, I'm told by people I trust he not only
wasn't the best player on his high school team, he
was maybe the third or fourth best.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
And if I evaluate him, all I want to know
is in much the.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Same way I projected lebron James being an NBA player,
which everybody else did, and Bryce Harper, etc. How do
you project Bronnie or is it just a stunt? Is
this just a publicity stunt? Is this just a big charade?
He's not good enough to be a point guard? Isn't
it have the handles or quickness. He's certainly not a
shooting guard. So what do you project him at? He's

(07:53):
a three and D. Well, you don't typically drafts six
foot one guys to be a three and D. I'm
not seeing doesn't play harder try. I'm not saying he's worthless.
I mean, he's just not an NBA player. But if
a year down the road we're looking what I think
we're gonna look like? Okay that I'm gonna say. Yes,
there were plenty of red flags. Yeah, we were told

(08:14):
he was a top thirty recruit Nashally. Come on, somebody
wrote that so they could curry favor with somebody. But
he did score fifteen points Brownie did in the McDonald's
High school All Star Game. I don't want to hear
how great he did at the combine. That means nothing
to me. Philadelphia Eagle fans remind us about Mike Mamula,

(08:34):
the all time combat combine bust for the Philadelphia Eagles
back in nineteen ninety five. So you know, my buddy
Bill Sadekas used to say birds can fly too, but
that doesn't mean they can hit a baseball. So when
you add it all up, Lebron James Friday Night will
join the ranks of Elvis and Dean Martin, Seline, Deontras,
Taylor Swift, runnand down the line as one of those

(08:57):
folks who will grace the Vegas stage.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
How's it gonna work.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
I'll tell you a year from now, but you at
least know what my opinion is. And I definitely have
one coming up. We're gonna bring in Mark Madina, our
Fox Sports Radio NBA guru, and we'll talk about, well,
we'll talk about Brownie's Las Vegas debut Friday Night and
what the director of Warren Legary of the NBA Summer
League had to say about this, and we'll talk a

(09:24):
little bit about the Olympic team.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
I thought the Olympic team looked really good last night.
I think this thing's over.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Okay, they're gonna out athlete anybody to play. They've got
more daft, better rotation, better rimp protection. Last night was
the least cohesive version you're gonna see. And they still
be in a damn good Canadian team by fourteen, and
Canada is really the only team that's got a shot
unless some crazy team like Angola HiT's fifty three is
one game which ain't gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meler
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Toni Foodsco Show. Yeah, but instead of us
telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick
described us when he came on our show.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Well, you don't interrupting our promo. Yeah, you wasn't talking
about you. You took those clips totally of context.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Oh yeah, Well, after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Let me put this into context.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Shut up.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Toni Fusco
Show on iHeartRadio, Apple podcasts oherever you get your podcasts, yee.

The Ben Mallor shows a collaborative effort. You're invited to
communicate with those of us on this side of the microphones.
You can follow your host on X. In for Ben Mallor,
it's Bernie Fratto. He's at Bernie Fratto. Hey, you can
post that and follow me. Eddie Garcia, your humble sidekick,
the voice of reason, your news guy. You're announcer guy.
I'm at Eddie on Fox. Hey, that's not me. That's

(11:01):
Justin Cooper and now live from the ti rack dot
Com Fox Sports Radio Studios. In for Ben Mallory, it's
Bernie Fratto.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Hey, thanks Eddie. Good to be with you, guys. Telly
Lorena koop.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah, we're gonna have some fun, all right. We bring
it back to Las Vegas's welcome in a gentleman. He's
a fixture on my show. Saturday Nights have been night,
Little Medina Magic. The NBA is raging. It's raging. The
NBA Summer League starts or the Las Vegas version of
the NBA Summer League starts Friday night, and that's just

(11:33):
the tip of the iceberg for all the storylines. Welcome in,
Mark Medina.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Mark. Are you doing, buddy, Bernie?

Speaker 6 (11:38):
I am doing well. Always good to chat with you,
and I'm just getting ready for Bronnie James's big debut
in Vegas. I've already been told from Warren Legerry, the
executive director, that it's pretty much a sellout, so it
should be fun.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Doesn't surprise me. You know, there have been a lot
of Friday night sellouts, usually have number one number two.
In past years. You've had some great matchups. But I
think I think everybody wants to see what this is
all about. And that's fine. This is Las Vegas, it's showtime,
and that seems to be taking center stage.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
But what else took center stage?

Speaker 6 (12:10):
Mark?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Is I got to retract something I said Saturday. I
thought the USA team would have to really grind and
win the goal.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
No one's beating his team. Mark.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
They're going to out athlete everybody. They've got their rotations,
their defense, their rent protection. And it didn't even necessarily
look good last night. I know you were at the
game Mark, What were your takeaways.

Speaker 6 (12:28):
Yeah, my takeaways are basically what you just said that
as long as they take the game seriously, they're going
to run away with this gold. And it's not like
it's going to be the nineteen ninety two Dream Team
Olympics where they just beat teams by fifty They're actually
going to play with chick competition. But keep in mind
Canada was a legit competitor. This is the same team
to beat the US in that bronze medal game in

(12:51):
the Feeble World Cup. The difference is the US now
has its best player. So even when you account for
Kevin Durampi now in that exhibition, the fact that they
lost Kawhi Leonard, and the fact that they were rusky offensively,
missing first six shots, committing turnovers, they were such a
beast defensively. All started with Anthony Davis. Bam Autobio is
setting the tone, and I just suspect that they'll continue

(13:13):
to get better and better. Joel Beida will stay out
of foul trouble, and I think that USA will start
hitting shots because one they have Steth Curry on their
team and two they'll start getting used to the difference
from the FEEB Ball.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Talking with Mark Medina Medina Magic Our Fox Sports Radio NBA. Gurup, Mark,
I want to talk quickly about Kawhi Leonard. We just
talked Saturday. I wondered if this Clippers would take umbrage.
We missed so much of the end of the season,
but he was ready to go for the Olympics. I
feel like this story is this book's missing a chapter.
He was there one day and gone the next. What

(13:46):
really happened?

Speaker 6 (13:48):
I mean, just like Kawhi Leonard with any injury news
regarding Clippers, there's always an information vacuum. But let me
give you my play by play, just a show just
how delicate this is, as well as just how cagy
all the information is. All week long during camp, Steve
Kerr would say how he was looking good. He didn't

(14:09):
have any restrictions. Even though he said it was a process.
There weren't any signs suggesting that they're having misgivings. Kawhi
Leonards said that, you know, he had worked all summer
to be able to get back into this position. I
asked ty Lou about what the collaboration is like with
the Clippers front office, himself and Steve Kerr about managing

(14:32):
Kawhi's practice workload as well as the upcoming games, and
he said Tuesday afternoon there are no minutes restrictions. He says,
he's feeling really good. There's going to be his first
summer playing five on five. It'll be good for him
going into the season low and behold. Less than twenty
four hours later, Team USA USA Basketball announced was that

(14:53):
Kawhi Leonards heading home, and you know they had concerns
about his injuries. So it's just wild. Unfortunately not surprising,
but I do give credit that at least Kauai gave
it a go. But it also illustrates that you can
never have any feeling of security that he's ever going
to stay healthy.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
You nailed that chronologically about perfectly, and it was bothered me.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I made a couple of calls. Is it true he
arrived at the start of camp with a sleeve on
his right leg and had a bit of a limp,
even though he did participate in all the drills. Is
that true?

Speaker 6 (15:24):
Well, I couldn't see a limp. And to be clear,
the practices aren't completely open in the media. They only
opened the last like thirty minutes. I didn't see any limitations.
For what it's worth, Steve kurse that he practiced without
any limitation, including controlled scrimmaging. But yes, he had a
sleeve on his leg. And only you know Kawi and

(15:45):
the team staff and the doctors fully know how limited
he was as far as how he moved up and
down the floor. But I thought that he would be
playing in the Olympic, Steve and projected he would play
in the exhibition in Canada. But he always had in
the back of your head questions about his injury, just
because this has been the same story the last five

(16:06):
years with the Clippers.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
All Right, a little bit of I'll say this in
air quotes controversy. So Kawhi exits, that leaves a vacuum
and they bring in Derek White and half the world
is up in arms. Does it really matter? They could
bring in Vana White and this team is still going
to win the medal. But I understand Jalen Brown is miffed.

(16:28):
He's miffed at Nike. He's lifted the whole situation and
he was very demonstrative on Twitter unpacked this for us Mark.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
Yeah, well, Jalen Brown is wondering if the Nike connections
has anything to do with him being excluded off the team.
I don't think it has anything to do with Nike.
Last time I checked Steph Curry as an under armor guy.
That didn't keep him off the team. But I also
don't buy Team USA's contention that, hey, they're just trying
to find best fit. What fit do you need to

(17:00):
sess of Joylen Brown? He won finals MVP for God's sake,
because then he shut down Luca Dodgers shots shut down
but played really good defense on him. So my suspicion
is this Derek White's very deserving great player. He impressed
USA's coaching staff in the Tokyo Olympics of doing all

(17:20):
the things that make Derek White a great player. You know,
is really good on defense, can be somewhat reliable as
a three point shooter. But I think that they really
handicapped the fact that he was a returning player, and
they also felt that, you know, he would be less
likely to complain about roles, lack of playing time or

(17:44):
at least inconsistent playing time than Jaylen Brown would. And
I say this as a Jaylen Brown fan, I think
that he is more than just the high volume shooter
that we've become accustomed to. I think that he's evolved
as a passer. He and Jason Tatum show that he
can coexist and he raises game defensively. But I think
those are the concerns that, you know, if he wouldn't

(18:04):
be guarantee significant minutes like Steph Curry, like Lebron James,
like Kevin Durant. And that's been the message with everyone
at USA. But you know what, in Furnace to Jalen Brown,
I think he would have accepted it. But look to
your point, they're still going to win gold and Derek
White's a really good player. It's just the reality that
Derrick White's last time I checked, probably the fifth best

(18:25):
player on the Celtics, and Jalen Brown is arguably one
A one B on the Celtics, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Mark Again, you unpact that perfectly. I think Graham Hill
tipped his hand. I think, and I appreciate your candor.
Derick White is a team player, he's a company man,
He's a great defender. If he is living in minutes,
he's going to be okay with it and go about
his business. Jalen Brown would have been the opposite. I
think that's just the fact people can do with that
what they will. Let's talk about the Lakers ever so quickly,

(18:54):
because they managed to stay in the news the free agency,
you know, signing period is just about is there any
truth to the room where they're going to maneuver the
Lakers to try to get Gary Trent Junior.

Speaker 6 (19:05):
I mean they very well could try. I mean the
market for Gary Trent Junior has really dried up because
you know, the Raptors gave him, I think a fifteen
million dollar deal he rejected. He was trying to get
it higher because he was making eighteen and a half
million last year. And he is a player that is
the best market a player on the market right now.

(19:27):
He's a player that any team would want, or he
would be. He's a player any team would want. But
unless you're a star player in the market now with
second apron concerns, there's a danger of musical chairs and
all of a sudden the money drives up, so he
could be available just by the font It's just hard
for me to think that he's going to be available

(19:48):
on the VET minimum even though he doesn't have a team.
And secondly, the sign and trade stuff. It's still a
tough thing for other teams to accept because Austin Reeves
really at Tamora, D'Angel Russell. Yeah, they're all intriguing individually,
have their moments, but I don't think it's enough to
really convince a team to part ways with a guy.

(20:09):
And I think in fairness of the Lakers, if I'm them,
I don't trade Austin Reeves in that kind of deal.
So I guess he never say never. But I think
the Lakers and the players and media members, including myself,
I think we're all preparing that this is the team
that they have at our training camp.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Last one, for me, mark perhaps the biggest story of
the week, if I'm being honest. The NBA agrees to
turns on a seventy six billion dollar media rights deal
that will span eleven years. And I think the key
takeaway for me people are watching will TNT match one
of those deals. They've got five days to do it.

(20:49):
First of all, I'll come out on the deal itself,
and then what do you think T and T is
going to do?

Speaker 7 (20:53):
Well?

Speaker 6 (20:54):
The deal itself shows that even with all the turbulent
landscape with cord cutting and streaming, The reality is content
is king, and if you want to accelerate your demise,
you don't invest in content, and live sports always has
a value. It's ironic, even though you know the NBA
itself has had mixed records in recent years of having

(21:16):
people want to tune into the game and have attachment
to even regular season games where a lot of the
conversations the soap opera, the free agency speculation. But again,
content's king. Now, whether Warner CHNT will match, I'm sure
they'll try to do that technically and legally they can,

(21:36):
But I do wonder if this is the end of
the relationship with Turner with the NBA. But it's hard
for me not to think that somehow, some way there'll
still be a version of inside the NBA, even with
a different partner. But we'll have to wait and see.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Sure seems to be a demand for it.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
All right, Mark, gets some Sleep's going to be a
busy weekend for you, as the legend Brownie James takes
the court here in Las Vegas and joins the likes
of Elvis and Frank Sinatra.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Jour your weekend, Bud, All right, Well.

Speaker 6 (22:05):
I'll be in Vegas. I'm packing at all and then
we'll reconvene Saturday night as all.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Right, that's right, good stuff, Mark, thanks, Bud, appreciate it.
That is Mark Medina. He is our Fox Sports Radio
NBA guru, and we do this fifty two weeks out
of the year because there is constantly news in the
National Basketball Association. Oh yeah, we're just a couple of
weeks away from the Olympics in Paris. Just in Paris

(22:31):
a couple months ago. Yeah, they got to town already
and spiffed up.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
The other night, you know, just made this statement flippantly.
I mean, I truly believe this USA team is going
to win the goal. That's not exactly going out on
a limb for crying out loud, I think. And by
the way, I don't know why the hell people have to,
you know, reference the Dream Team in ninety two and

(23:01):
most people never saw him play.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
That team had twelve Hall of Famers, and they.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
Combined for nineteen championships and they smoked everybody by forty
and I get it. There were less people say, well,
you know, the world's catching up with with the USA
now they were just much tougher. No, they caught up
on them eighty eight. That's why John Thompson and our
Olympic tobacco when the US lost to Soviet Union, and

(23:27):
I think it was Armanas Sabonis, Sabonas's dad. Back then,
the players were good enough. It's just the Feber rules
were so strict. If you tried to go to the
United States, they basically put you in goolac. So the
NBA didn't really scout, you know, overseas talent like they
do now. But to compare eras, Bill Russell said it best.

(23:50):
Don't compare eras, don't compare ghosts. That team was special, phenomenon.
They are phenomenal. They are the original dream team. In
this team, obvi, he is very good as well. The
only chance I think someone has a beating them is
if they get him in a half court set, which
they didn't look great in a half court set last night,
and start banging threes and you don't have to make

(24:11):
about fifty of them. Because this team is too athletic,
too deep. You rotate five all stars going to come out,
five all stars come in and Yeah, there were some
bumpy moments during the training camp, and there were some
bumpy moment moments at the beginning of the game against Canada.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
But it's not how you drive, it's how you arrive.
You know. The Americans got it going.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
It was right here in Las Vegas, an absolute packed
team mobile Arena eighty six seventy two. When and you
can call this summer exhibition, that game was played like
it was the gold medal game. These guys were getting
after it right. And look a team USA's leading scorer,
you know, when they were at the World Cup, when

(24:55):
all these stars weren't around, he picked up where he
left off. Thirteen points off the bench. Anthony Edwards. Wow,
and I get a kick out of him. Anthony Davis,
another reserve. He has a double double. He'll probably be
a double double machine the entire tournament. And Steph Curry
was the starter, leading league score amongst starters with tall points.
He said, look, we're just getting started. They had four

(25:17):
days of practice. Yes, you could see the rust on
the offensive end. They had a bunch of turnovers in
the first half, but the defensive intensity, the rim protection,
the work on the glass, the effort they made this
team wants to make a name for themselves, and frankly,
I think this thing is over right. There was a fight,
they would have stopped it after that eleven to one deficit.

(25:40):
They ended up winning by fourteen. That's a twenty five poor,
twenty four point turnaround. And this Canadian team was not
a bunch of pikers.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
They had RJ.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Barrett, he had twelve points, Shay Gilgets, Alexander Dylan Brooks
drew holiday. Come on, and by the way, Kevin Durant
did even play last night. He was in street clothes
and you could tell it was a little bit of
pride in the American's eyes because, as Mark mentioned, the
US just this last September lost in overtime by eight

(26:08):
to Canada in the twenty twenty three World Cup in
the bronze medal game, and many of the Canadian players
are the same. The Americans, however, only returned two players
brand new roster. By the way, the coach of Canada,
Jordi Fernandez, who has to also be the new head
coach of the Brooklyn Nets, says, I didn't like the
way we played. Well, you just got beat by a

(26:30):
better team. He was, but that's not who we are,
how we want to play, who we want to be.
I think those two will lock horns again. When you
look at the Vegas odds, the Americans have prohibited favored
to win at minus four hundred to win one hundred
Canada's plus eight eight hundred. You know that's a pretty
big underdog. And then it goes from there. Serbia, it
doesn't matter, It doesn't matter. I mean, if you're really
feel in saucy bet Japan, one hundred dollars are bringing

(26:52):
back like fifty thousand. But this USA team apparently practice hard.
It was all done here in Vegas behind closed doors.
Steve Kurz said, this is a very good team.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
Okay, that's kind of obvious.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
You got both teams that were locked with NBA stars,
and I think that what happened was is that the
team that's probably more experienced, deeper, better athletes, everything I
just mentioned, and the rim protection, unbelievable rim protection. I
don't think anybody in the international stage is going to

(27:25):
touch these guys, really, I just don't. From what I
saw last night, the only thing concerning Joel mb looked
like a drunk cross, like an icy street. He did
not look good. He had no composure. He files out
halfway through the third quarter, so he may need to
learn a little bit more about feeble rules and ramp
up as conditioning. And in something very unceremonious, he also

(27:46):
elbowed Dwite Powell in the face and listen, it wasn't
necessarily artistic basketball. Both offenses were a little clunky and
there were a lot of missed shots. Lebron didn't have
necessarily a great night. Jay Gilges was three to ten
the Canadians. This twenty five three pointers. You have to admit,
you know, you have to presume that probably wouldn't happen again.

(28:08):
But here's really the key. Okay, the USA's reserves are
the reason no one's going to touch this team because
Canada they rotated in.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Five all stars too. But their reserves got outscored by.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Nine points, and that was the difference, and margin was
actually greater. The game got a little out of hand
and settled in later. But it's the size of the
Americans you're bringing Anthony Davis, Joel m Joel embiid ban
of a dial.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
It was evident they had fifty points in the paint.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
Canada only had thirty two, and this is the best
low post team they'll play in the tournament. You know,
in feeble rules, it's more about spacing and shooting threes
and ball movement. You don't see a lot of low
post play. And they're not going to get away with
it against this NBA team. So that's my two cents. Look,
you know, the bottom line is the Americans did They

(28:56):
just got here in Las Vegas over the weekend. They
got twelve guys, you throw them together. They got a
bunch of collective resumes. I don't think the resumes are
as good as the Dream Team of ninety two, But
that's like picking out your favorite Noolan to play the
spaghetti Okay, they had some tough decisions. There are a
lot of guys that have kept on the team. Kawhi
Leonard gets bumped off because of injuries. You bring in

(29:18):
Derek White, Jalen Brown's pissed off. But the truth of
the matter is, what does it really matter? There was
a there was quite a cavalcade last night at the game.
Jerry Colangelo, he put the redeem team together, Mike Krzyzewski,
Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing, Gary Payton,
Jim Beaheim, John Caliparia, and even Barack Obama was there

(29:42):
last night greeting and glad handing everybody on the floor.
It was a celebration of something to see. It was
really cool from a fans standpoint. So if you want
to follow this team's progress, they'll play Australia in Abu
Dhabi next Monday, and the Canadians will play the Olympic
team the Olympic host team France in France on July nineteenth,

(30:07):
as they all finished their two note games. And by
the way, you can bet on these games. Yeah, you
can bet on these games. Speaking of betting, I don't
know if Drake should be betting. Is Drake perhaps the
worst better in the history of sports. I'll chop it

Speaker 2 (31:20):

Speaker 1 (31:24):
We're going to get to the Drake betting debacle. And
by the way, top of the hour, your calls all
the night, all night, eight seven, seven nine to nine
on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six three
six nine. Hey, pick up the phone, dial beat somebody
if you need to get your courage up, you know,
have a couple of cream dements or something. Mike in

(31:45):
Las Vegas, get us started tonight. Mike, what do you
want to talk.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
About the greatest two weeks of the entire year in
the NBA is the summer league.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
It's pretty fun. I covered eleven out of the last twelve.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
Go.

Speaker 7 (32:01):
Yeah, well, I've been going since the Long Beach Pyramid.
And that's a long when there is eight media people there,
me being one of them. And what's so great about?
And come on from LA all over. There's still tickets
to be had, even for tomorrow or Friday Night's game.

(32:21):
The people you see on the court are great, but
the people who you see around the court and in
the concourse very true.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Oh, like Madame tussads for basketball, You're spot on, Mike.

Speaker 7 (32:34):
I just love it to see Beheim, to see players
from the eighties, nineties, a few plumbers, a few air
conditioner people. They day Reddick. All right, now I'm moving
over there. I am changing my call sign right now
after fifty years is Laker Mike. I'm okay, c Laker

(32:58):
Mike because my team is in hijacks and you know what,
I'm on a twelve step program to get off of
my Lakers. I swear to you who I am because
they will never ever be the same. It's not just
BROWNNI has nothing to.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Do with it.

Speaker 7 (33:16):
But when you use it, the cumula of bad offseason
choices of Reddick, of Lebron donating it was just too
much money that he contributed towards making impact players become
part of the Lakers. It's like, you know, what the

(33:36):
heck with it? I'm an OKC fan and it's not
just being a front runner. It's it's just that I'm
done with it. Loyalty has to have some reciprocities to it,
and that's it. Just back back into yesterday's Olympic Games,

(33:57):
it was outstanding again. It's all the great people in
the crowd. And uh, I think Derek White, Mark mcgeen
is great. I've known him forever and uh, he just
gets better and better, like a fine wine and his
information and delivery.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
All right, Mike, listen, but I appreciate you checking in,
and I, Bertie, I agree with your assertion on the Lakers.
I might as well pitch a tent to become a
circus out there. I promise you we are getting to
this Drake betting blunders and he's got a body of
work going back a couple of months. And we're not
talking chump change here. Uh, but callers take precedent. Jed
who fled You're up next? Uh, good evening, sir, Hey man.

Speaker 7 (34:40):
You have to listen.

Speaker 8 (34:40):
I've always wondered how Mark Stein is the host for
Rush and uh it's not better than Rush about I
touched it out. Brock sat Obama doing what he does
that I'm telling Graving a microphone at the US say
the end of the game, Well, who would touch this
guy's hands before the basketball game? Y'all remember the halftime
of him shooting prick game and he was not support

(35:01):
the entirety of every shot?

Speaker 7 (35:03):
Who do that?

Speaker 8 (35:04):
I also noticed the white guy eat Nerd handshakes the
brothers thanks for hooks.

Speaker 7 (35:10):
What is that acceptable?

Speaker 6 (35:11):
And is that acceptable? Course?

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Side decor spread Jed who fled with the pregame handshake
play by play, solid work, my fe just.

Speaker 8 (35:23):
The former leader of the free world, that's all. I'll
be down toled for it.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (35:25):
Every article right though, D with Barack.

Speaker 8 (35:27):
Obama not gonna say basketball Canada?

Speaker 7 (35:30):
But good yeah, Brock.

Speaker 8 (35:31):
He says he's no name. You know, you don't matter,
if they don't matter what we're gonna do here.

Speaker 7 (35:34):
He's an ex president.

Speaker 8 (35:37):
He's gonna be the one handing out all the.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
Years.

Speaker 8 (35:40):
Are you know you want to sell it?

Speaker 2 (35:44):
All right, Jed, I appreciate you, Jed, I appreciate you
checking in man. I love it.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Good stuff. Uh help yourself to a Joel Cole. I
appreciate the energy of my friend. And all callers are
welcome the night eighte seven seven ninety nine on Fox
egeven s nine ninety six six three six. Now We've
got a ton of stuff to get to tell you
what I'm gonna do. This Drake stuff is too good.
I mean it's too good. And then he not only
got dissed by Kendrill Gamar, and he got dissed by

(36:10):
the Argentina men's soccer team after he bet against him.
But I am telling you he's had some losses that
are mounting, that go over seven figures and they become public.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
And I'm gonna get to that. I want to give
it its due. But what I want to do, And
again he calls a.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Welcome all night eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine eight seven seven ninety nine one Fox
coming on the top of the hot We're gonna bring
in the care. We're gonna have a little fun. Now
all of us fly. It is the summer. We travel personally,
I'm a. Yes, I'm a million minor flyer in my life.
Since May first, I've been on nine flights and seven
have been late. I'm not complaining just the way it is.

(36:51):
I think the TSA people, the flight attendants, the pilots,
the airlines, they do it damn good job. They get
us there safely. It ain't always perfect, but the system
is just overwrought. But let me tell you, the most
annoying part are certain habits that fellow flyers have that
piss each other off. I swear I do my best
not to do any of these. We're gonna bring in

(37:12):
the crew. There are six or seven things. You're gonna
laugh when you hear these, and we'll kind of have
the crew grade which of these make them the most
met And oh, by the way, flight attendants they get
the way in two.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
What are the things we do to.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Piss them off that we may not even be aware of?
And like I said, when you hear some of these things,
you'll say, yeah, I've seen that.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
We'll chop it up. Top of the hour, keep it locked.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
