Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, thanks for listening to the Ben Mahler Show podcast.
It's me Ben. Be sure to catch us live every
weeknight from two to six Eastern eleven pm to three
am Pacific right here on Fox Sports Radio. You can
find your local station for the Ben Maler Show over
at Foxsports Radio dot com, or stream us live every
night on the iHeartRadio app by searching FSRS.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Ah, yes, good.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Morning everybody, our good evening, our good afternoon, or I
guess goodnight, as the great Ben Maler would say in
the air.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Everywhere, it's Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
The only show I think, just just my opinion, the
only show whereas a fill in, people truly just hate you.
I mean, I've never really understood this. And again, being
someone who is both a night oul and an early
morning person, now it doesn't mesh well. It's not a
good fit in life. Whenever you love to stay up late,
(01:15):
but then in the same vein you have to get
up early. Never good mix in life. But welcome to
the battle that I fight every single day. But I
say it, it's it's kind of like I don't I
don't know if it's like a badge of honor.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
I don't know if it's a I don't know if
it's a concern.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Whichever way, I consider it pretty awesome that you can
fill in on every show on Fox Sports Radio. And
I've come pretty close, you know, filling on two prose,
filling on Colin Covino and Ridge whatever. This is the
only show where people just out of the gate like,
f this guy, it's not been Where's Ben?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
What's your deal? And then if you do.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Something like just slightly away from one but maybe the
mal or militia enjoys or is used to oh my goodness,
oh my god, it's complete and utter disdain. That's not
how Ben does it. So I'll pup. I'll get this
opportunity very often. But I also feel like, just in
(02:18):
true to reality, I feel like I got called up
to the show. This is the moment. Some would say
that their ultimate goal would be to sit in here
on Fox Sports Radio for Dan Patrick or Colin Coward
or I don't know, maybe maybe two pros and a
cuple I don't know, you know, Morning Drive and you
know two Hall of famers. I say no, I say no,
(02:41):
And let me explain. First of all, good morning Lorena.
For those that aren't aware, I think, is it fair
to say that, Loraina, you got your start at Fox
Sports Radio on our Sunday night show? Is that right now?
Speaker 4 (02:52):
First time? I was just thinking about that yesterday on
my drive home. I was like, oh my gosh, I
haven't worked with you since literally my first when I've
set and then I went on full time.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, that's right, Arnie span your and I do a
Sunday night show. For those that aren't aware, Arnie is uh,
you've chased him away. He will never work the overnight
show again.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
I heard the Militia has done their work on a
couple of wiks.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I think it's twofold, by the way, just to.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Be fair for Arnie, just like they give it right,
he's pretty good addition it out. But I also think
that he has made it clear that he can't do
the show anymore because either a he can't do the hours.
You know, Arnie's getting up there in age a little bit,
let's just be honest, and he's got a very busy
life of being a trophy husband. I've never seen anyone
(03:40):
more exhausted from one set show every single week, and
my man, Arnie specure can be. Arnie has one show
he does every single week. That's unless he's called upon
to fill in here on Fox Sports Radio and he's exhausted.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
He's like, I got the Sunday night show. I got
to plan the whole week around it.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Radio is a hard gig.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
It can be.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
It can be absolutely and uh, Coop, I mean, holy smokes,
by the way, what a time, Yeah, Coop, Yeah, the
Broncos are awesome. How's poker game going? You're good? Yeah,
it's it's going.
Speaker 6 (04:11):
It's going all right right now?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Uh oh, that wasn't the most reassuring answer that I've
ever heard in my life.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
I just had to.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
I just had a pretty bad down swing.
Speaker 7 (04:23):
But it's I'm sorry, I'm starting to it's starting to
climb back up.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
It's but it's a it's a more gradual incline the
than the decline was. I'm sorry. Yeah, you know whatever,
it's it'sclusion weight.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I am a big I don't want to say I'm
a fitness freak now because I just got home. I
went home to see my family for a couple of days.
I work out every single day. I go to the
gym every single that's bragg people. Okay, yeah, I know
I'm down about fifteen and a half twenty pounds right now,
you know, somewhere in there.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
I can't just say fifteen because that's like the basement.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
But I my point of bringing it up is not
to brag if there's any ladies out there in the overnight.
But it's really more than anything else to say. The
challenge is not necessarily losing weight. It's keeping it off,
and it's and it's bouncing back when you have a backslide.
Right whenever I'm sitting there eating Christmas cookies like I
(05:17):
don't know, like they're the greatest thing that have ever
been made in the history of mankind, when I've sworn
off sweets all year long. Your challenge is what your
challenge is getting back on that horse and riding whenever
you're struggling and the uh whatever your whatever, your uh
I guess you could say game of choice might be.
If it's if it's blackjack, if it's a poker. In
(05:37):
the case of Coop, then uh Coop, it's one thing
to win. It's it's hard whenever you're on that downside,
but you know what not to try to humble brag
about working.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Out to it.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
When you're in a slump baseball, it's nice to get
that average up to three hundred.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
It's hard to keep it there. Right, your backslide a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
You got a lot of work to do, so the
work to get back on top of the mountain is
a little bit harder than getting there, right.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
Yeah, yeah, I mean you know that. It's a humble brag.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
Go ahead, but literally right before the show started, I
just placed third in a tournament out of one hundred
and three people.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
So it was a nice, little, nice little win. I
am so shocked you to not come in bragging about that. Sure,
that usually is the first thing.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Really Yeah, I like that. I like that. I always
tell Coop I've done you know. I mean, I've been
working at Fox Sports Radio since like oh seven, Right,
there was that little actually it was six, because there
was that phase in O seven where everyone kind of
disappeared for a while, but then we all came back,
(06:37):
you know, Big Ben came back. I had a chance
to come back, and I think it's been pretty consistent
now for the last twelve years. So I've worked with
Coop for a really long time, and I tell him this.
My boss at Oklahoma is always the most proud of
me whenever I get a chance to work with Coop
because he listened to.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
The Ben Mahlor Show and he always knew Coop as
you know, he's a child actor. You know, he had
a really, really good run and he.
Speaker 6 (06:59):
Was almost a big deal.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
He's a big deal. So this is a big deal
for me. But it's great to work with you guys.
I'm pomped to hang out over the next and not
like I'm counting down or anything. Three hours and fifty
three minutes. But let me explain why this is my
this is my world series, this is my super Bowl,
this is my I was trying to think of a
(07:20):
work of art. This is my Mona Lisa Okay. And
this is why. Because I got my start doing overnights
on the weekends, which was the third shift here on
Fox Sports Radio, and I replaced Ben who moved to
the weekday shift.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
And then this summer I.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Kind of went back to my roots and when Bernie
Fratto went down to one show, Bernie I did Friday night.
I would do the Friday night show and I don't
know Lorena and Coop if you're aware of this, but
the Friday Night Show kind of became like an open
mic night in a lot of ways where many of
(07:59):
the malor regulars. You know, I know you're a big
fan of Mike the Leprechaun Lorrena. I got introduced to
him show.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Words out of his mouth because he's obsessed.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
He is obsessed. There's an obsession there. There is a
Blind Scott among others, and listen, I'm one of those people.
I like Blind Scott. I think he's a good caller.
Sometimes it would be a few of the other REGs,
like my Friday Night Show would be where they would
come and work on the material.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Right, open mic nights for those of you that aren't.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
I don't know if I have to overly explain this,
but we are in the middle of the night, might
be where you have a comedian that goes to a
club and just kind of thank you, that kind of
just goes and works on their material. And that's what
the Friday Night Show became. It was like Star Search.
It was Showtime of the Apollo, only it was a
practice show. So this to me now is I cultivated
(08:53):
my craft for the I guess that would be what.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Maybe four or five months that I did that show.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Now k Fig and Adam Orkr in the FNA Show
on Friday nights, and Bernie's doing his thing on Saturday,
so I feel like I'm well prepared for the next Again,
we're not counting down tonight, but three hours and fifty
minutes here on the Ben Mallor Show on Fox Sports Radio.
So welcome in, Lorrain and Coop. Good to hang with you.
(09:18):
Let's have some fun tonight. As always, if you know
what you want to talk about before I have to
lay it out, or if you have your own agenda tonight,
I am not here to judge you.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Do you Boo eight.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
nine six six three six nine. I'm very reachable. I
think it's a term on Twitter. I'm at Plank Show.
If you some it's it's very weird. I found some
people get very mad if you go ahead and call
it X, and then other people get mad if you
don't still call it Twitter. So I'm kind of in
(09:52):
that world where I'll just go with Twitter at Plank Show.
Everyone go follow us at Fox Sports Radio. I have
kind of you committed hourly segments tonight, and here let
me explain one. First of all, I'm a big college
football guy. Now, part of it is I live in
a college football market. I come to you live tonight
(10:13):
from the Bible Belt, God's Country, Green Country, Oklahoma, and
I live That's right bad. And I live in God's
time zone, the Central time Zone, which is the only
time zone we should acknowledge. But actually, though, this show
is the best in the Pacific time zone because it's
not like you're working whenever everyone else is asleep. You're
(10:33):
in the Pacific time zone. It's like everybody's kind of
still awake and they still have a life. But I
say that, and I lay that out because my neighbor
will always say to me, you know, as a crow flies,
we're just like five minutes from the stadium, which I
don't think we are. And I've never seen a crow
fly over my house. But the point is I live
in an area where we eat, sleep, breathe college football.
(10:56):
I do a show. I do a local show. Now.
I am a morning guy on our affiliate in Oklahoma City, Norman,
and across the entire state of Oklahoma on KERRF, that's
the ref Sports Radio Network, which we call the home
of Sooner fans, and I mean, I'm literally we're doing
half shows this week, which are today, which is great
(11:17):
because we kind of get New Year's Day and new
and the second off it is awesome.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Are you one of those people who only talk Sooner
talk though, because of where you're located on your daily basis?
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Lorena Ding Ding Ding.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
It's my point, it's college football.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
You know what we're talking about today, the portal, the now,
I understand my audience. Everybody calm down. You don't have
to tweet up me get mad. I'm not gonna sit
here and break down Troy Everetts insertion in the transfer
portal and what it means for Oklahoma on the offensive
line going forward. We don't need to talk about Cam
Coleman and asking if he loves covered wagons or not.
My point, more than anything else, is to lay out
(11:52):
that I love college football. Now, this angers a few
people within the malord militia and with the college within
the sports landscape. I got my buddy, shady, sh shady
Sean Ford twenty. I guess his birthday must be on
April twentieth. There's something congratulations. He gets very mad at
me when I bring up college football very triggered. Calls
it amateur sports, and that's fine. I've never really understood that.
(12:13):
By the way, are we smoke at her gummy and tonight?
Which one did we decide? Cud? Which one did we decide?
Lorena would get one true hour in the books? And
we just get loose here? You guys make up your mind.
I say we do both, Okay, I'm down for whatever?
Speaker 6 (12:24):
Whoa what? Whoa both?
Speaker 7 (12:27):
Why not?
Speaker 4 (12:28):
I've been watching this girl. She eats five gun weans
before she goes and has a meal. I'm like, I
want to be like you one day, ten milligram or
I don't know that's a.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Good question, you know, Uh, Tom Sagora ten milligram, Tom,
I'm kind of like ten milligram plank. So I'm just
if she's having five, we might we might really fix
all the world's problems tonight. But my point, I love
college football like I love it, and I've never really
understood having to defend it to anyone. I think it's
(12:56):
the best environments. I don't know if it's the best
version of football. I don't care about that fight. I
just know that I love it. So I have committed
at the bottom of each hour tonight again thirty do
I have to explain the bottom of the hour if
you guys kicked in your fifty milligrams before the show tonight,
(13:16):
But at the bottom of every hour. I've got a
quick preview of all four of the college football playoff games,
and one of them is coming up tonight, and I
think I think it has a chance to be one
of the best ones.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
I know it has the biggest spread.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
I know it's nine and a half last I checked
for Miami and Ohio State. I know it's being played
in I know it's being played in Dallas, which is
kind of unique because everyone thought that this was going
to be a game that would be played in the
Orange Bowl. But I think Miami and Ohio State's going
to be a really good game. We'll talk about it
(13:51):
coming up to the bottom. Now you'll hear from some
of the coaches, maybe you'll hear from some of the players.
They had their media day today. But I think it's
a fascinating matchup. And I don't want to I'm selling
you on it. I don't want to say I'm trying
to cram it down your throat or anything. Of that nature.
I just feel like between that game and then the
three games will get on jan one, including a conversation
(14:13):
we'll have with Ryan Fowler from a last night's show
kind of the highlights of that. I think it deserves
a deeper conversation in the sports world, right, especially on
national airwaves. So if you're an anti college football person,
which is just so hard for me to comprehend, I'm
gonna try to do my best to sell you on
each of these games. At the bottom of each hour,
(14:35):
let the games begin, thank you. The other set segment
I have is just want I'll throw out there and
I'll say it's hacky, it's bait. But where the final
full show on The Ben Malor Show of twenty twenty five.
Are you guys doing a show tomorrow night? Do we
have a best of tomorrow night to kind of allow
(14:57):
you guys to enjoy New Year's or what's that look like?
I didn't get the schedule this week? Am I on tonight?
Speaker 8 (15:03):
You again?
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Is it me again? Kidding?
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I'm kidding, No, it's not.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
I don't really know, but we're doing a show tomorrow night?
Speaker 9 (15:09):
Right?
Speaker 4 (15:09):
There is a show?
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (15:10):
Good?
Speaker 7 (15:10):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (15:11):
My point is two new hosts.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
I believe I've never done the show before.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Really is it is?
Speaker 3 (15:16):
K Fig and Adam?
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Yes, okay, f and A. Yeah. They they're doing the
Friday night show. They're awesome, right. You know, Kevin figures
he's been around here forever. He introduced me to the
term mollywop. So you know you're gonna you're gonna learn
a lot tomorrow night on the show. But tomorrow Night's
show for those of us in the Central and the
Eastern time zone, it's in the future, like they're already
living in twenty twenty six. So this is the final
(15:41):
full show for the Ben Malor Show twenty twenty five.
I would like on the program tonight to spend some
time looking back on our favorite sports moments at twenty
twenty five. Now we don't have to get into the
world moments and Somalian daycare conversation. We need to focus
this on sports people, the happiness, happiness of the world,
(16:02):
which I will say though, my new favorite I'm very
addicted to Instagram.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Reels, which is the old it's the old.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Person's version of TikTok, right, Yeah, my new favorite Instagram
reel that's making the round is people that say, I'm
not going to tell anyone whenever I have some Mollian daycare,
but there will be signs and so people just walking
around with mink coats and riches and all that fun.
But I'm not here to talk politics, no, no, no,
I'm here to look back on those great moments at
(16:30):
twenty twenty five. And I think if you were to
check the record books, I feel like the one of
the last times, I mean, I guess this is a
yearly thing now. One of the last times I got
to sit in and do Ben's show was on New
Year's Eve last year or maybe even the thirtieth, and
we had a chance to do this throughout a couple
of days span, and it's always good for me. Maybe
(16:52):
the best way to do this could be on Twitter,
and like I said, if you guys want to jump
into the phones at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
There's always a few things that pop up, and you know,
even in the year and review shows and even in
the year and review you know, radio and TV side
of it, there's always a few things like damn, I
forgot about that, or you look up and you're like,
was that this year? Did that happen in twenty twenty five?
(17:15):
I mean, if you think about it in reality, the
Eagles won the Super Bowl in twenty twenty five, because
you know, we usually don't finally get to the super
Bowl until the second month of the year anymore. So
we'll spend some time reliving what I think was a
great sports year. It leads up to, you know, count
down to in another summer, Olympics that's going to be
here in the United States, the US of a baby
(17:37):
in a couple of years. We got the World Cup
that's going to be on our turf in twenty twenty six,
which again I'm not a big soccer guy, but I
sure as he'll act like it whenever we have an
event like this on our turf. So before we can
truly look ahead, we have an opportunity to look back
on the on the year that was here on the
Ben Mallor Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
So that's my.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Plan over the next three hours and forty two minutes.
But again, we're not counting down to the end of
the show. That's not the point by any stretch of
the imagination.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
I'm sartying to think you have a timer, what oh.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Not at all. Do you think I have a countdown
clock to when the show is over? What you don't
think I have a clock that says survive the Malard
Militia only three hours of us a couple of things,
a couple of things, and not just what's coming up
on the show tonight. But we owe you some headlines.
(18:31):
Bowl season is not what it once was, never has
been since the start of the four team playoffs, might
not have been even before that. They every college football
inclination of the postseason has usually been met with skepticism
and not meeting the expectation level of what college football
fans want or deserve, and every year the bowl season
(18:53):
becomes less and less relevant. But we had two damn
good games tonight, and I think sometimes we become so
cynical about things that we don't allow ourselves to embrace
when it's really good. So coming up, we'll recap TCU's
walk off when in overtime that just wrapped up thirty
to twenty seven over USC and the Alamo Bile and
(19:15):
Illinois continues what's been a rough post season for the
SEC by walking off Tennessee thirty to twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
We've got that coming up here in just a bit.
But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
I don't know how any show can't lead, can't lead
with his twenty minutes into the program, thanks blank, but
can't lead without having a conversation about one of what
I thought was the best stories in the NFL this
season turning into an absolute bleep show. But what else
would you expect from anything involving Stefan Diggs. He is
(19:50):
facing now a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor
charge of assault from an incident that is now four
weeks sold. According to a police report, a woman went
to police on December sixteenth and shared that she was
working as a private chef on December second, as the
(20:14):
date of the incident, when Diggs entered her unlocked bedroom
and allegedly smacked her across the face after they had
discussed money owed to her. According to police, she said
she attempted to push Digs away when he allegedly tried
to choke her with his elbow around her neck, and
later threw her onto the bed and said lies when
(20:37):
she said she had not been paid After the alleged assault.
According to this report, she left her position and the
residence to stay with a friend. When she returned on
December ninth to reach to Reever property, Diggs referred her
to his assistant, who told the woman she had to
sign a non disclosure agreement.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Before she would be paid.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
She didn't sign the sign it for the report, and
in Foreign Police on December sixteenth that she didn't want
to file charges before deciding to do so on December
twenty second, diggs attorney said in a statement that the
allegations are unsubstantiated. Now as somebody that has absolutely fallen
(21:20):
in love with the story of the Patriots this year,
Stefan Dis has been one of those. I don't know
the term would be bounced back, but you know, truly
kind of reminding you that he's a dude. I'm the dude.
He's a dude, And the last few weeks, I think
it's fair to say has been some of his best
ball all season long. Had ten catches in the win
(21:42):
over Baltimore, one hundred and thirty eight yards in that game,
over one hundred yards in the Jets game, though, who
hasn't had over one hundred yards receiving.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Against the Jets.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
But I don't know what to think about this because
it is a massive distraction leading up to the playoffs.
And again, the Patriots are going all in this weekend
to try to get to one seed and we'll see
how that pans out for them. They don't control their
own destiny because somehow they lost to the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
So props to you, Coop for beating the Raiders twice
this year.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
A very big task with the way things have gone
for Vegas so far in twenty twenty five. But I again,
I don't know what's true and what's not. I take
people at their word, but what a terrible distraction to
have at this point in the season. So Stefan Diggs,
who has been one of the great stories this year,
guy that has been questioned was apparently the dude at
(22:35):
about three different places resurrects his career in New England
and on the week of I guess you could say,
the week before the start of the playoffs, has this
that drops as a massive distraction in the lap of
the New England Patriots. Big deal to you eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox. Big deal to me because
(22:56):
I think that this is worthy of questioning whether or
not this could be something that implodes his run. The
NFL's got to act right, gotta way till all the
facts come in. You can't just need your can suspend him.
But what a terrible, terrible distraction for this team heading
into the playoffs. All right, when we come back, recap
the big news of the day, I'm not gonna try
to bore you too terribly much throughout the night with
(23:18):
the college football fights that are going on. But holy smokes,
are some college basketball coaches grand standing like crazy? And
we'll start our preview of the college football playoffs as
we look at the Cotton Bow. We look at Miami
and Ohio State to get you ready for the four
team playoffs and the Ben Mallord Show. I'm Chris Blank,
sitting in on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Mallor
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
A big story coming up in exactly I'm big on
countdowns here twenty nine minutes tonight, Coop, is playoff ready?
How playoff ready? We'll find out at the top the
next hour. I just out of curiosity, Coop, was this
an online purchase? Was this a Facebook marketplace purchase? I mean?
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Or is this straight up off of a third party.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
Lender directly from Ticketmaster?
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Wow?
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (24:52):
As Rob Parker would say, I don't know. Sometimes here
is my old man, get off my lawn. Take. I
don't know how some of you people can afford to
go to games. I mean, I just don't. It's unbelievable
how expensive it is. And Coop will have a story
that we'll see whether or not you're in with him,
because I'm impressed, Coop. Let me tell you if The
(25:14):
Raiders makes me just sad thinking about it, If the
Raiders ever get to a point where they get back
to the playoffs. Probably would do just about anything I
could to go, but I think I'm in a pretty
good spot right now where I won't have to worry
about that for a really, really long time. Speaking of
a long time, For over forty years, ty Iraq has
been helping customers find the right tires for how, what
(25:37):
and where they drive, shipped fast and free, backed by
free road hazard protection, with convenient installation options like mobile
tire installation. Tire rack dot Com is the way tire
buying should be. All right, We're monitoring the story tonight
involving Stefan Diggs. Meanwhile, speaking of Digs, the Cowboys release
(25:57):
Trayvon Digs. I mean, last I remember thinking about Trevon Diggs.
He was a Pro Bowl He had signed a five year,
ninety seven million dollar contract extension in twenty twenty three,
but has played in just twenty one games over the
last two years because of knee injuries. Toys left acl
last two years ago, missed six games last year because
(26:19):
of it, and this year he's missed eight games. So
the Cowboys just decided tis better to punt. I don't
expect him to get picked up off waivers by you know,
any of the any of the tank tacular teams.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
But you know, maybe there's a spot.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Maybe there's a spot in a place like Buffalo or
I don't know, New England for his brother is I mean,
maybe there's an opportunity for him. Field Yates said that
there is no guaranteed money on his deal beyond this season,
so if you are to claim Trevon Diggs, you would
be on the hook for four hundred and seventy two
thousand dollars for week eighteen plus, man, what is it here?
(27:01):
Fifty eight grand? If he's active this week might be
worth the risk, if you need some depth and if
you think that he can be healthy. But it's funny.
There was a part of me when I saw he
was cut, like, we live Cowboys football here. I'm in
a market that gets some cram down your throat every
single weekend. But I'm not like checking out their depth chart.
(27:22):
I'm not reading all the updates. I thought the damn
wasn't he hadn't he been playing pretty well? Then you
look and you realize since he signed that contract, since
he got paid, Yeah, I've done jack squat.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
So Cowboys decide to make a move. We'll see if
anyone picks them up.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
And again, you had two bowl games that were fantastic tonight,
both of them and two of the three in walk
off fashion. Here's what it sounded like with the University
of Illinois. You were that right old Brett Bielima, whom
we all love to just call Bert has his team
beat d SC. Three seconds left, alto in the middle
(27:58):
of the field from dude, pull the winds, snap back
kick in the air.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
The pick is.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
We do.
Speaker 6 (28:09):
It's God.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
I do appreciate that because I grew up in Saint
Louis and we're like torn between being an Illinois and
Missouri fan. I appreciate the energy of the analyst that
says that's what we do. No, we don't not at
the University of Illinois. We don't win. We don't win
bowl games. But congratulations because tonight you did in taking
(28:34):
out Tennessee thirty to twenty eight. And then in overtime Lincoln.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Riley told you they're close. They're close at USC.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
In fact, he said after the loss tonight, it's taken
them a long time, but that window is now open
for USC. But it wasn't open tonight. Says, dumps at
left pain les one tackle in two and Dodds the
So let's.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Take the double at tux Fide to the ped to
the five.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
He say, yet bad.
Speaker 11 (29:04):
Let's see it's like Dolla's touchdown can't seals the deal
Here tonight, O, the horn Frogs have filed the betrick
against USC one four time.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Yeah, thirty twenty seven. TCU beats USC and the Alamo Bowl.
Thank you to both the Illinois Radio Networks and the
TCU Radio network. Two big Bowl games. Now, I promise
at the bottom of the hour a quick preview of
the playoff games that are coming up over the next
twenty four hours. First tonight you get Ohio State versus Miami. Now,
(29:43):
one side story to this game. Jeremiah Smith, the very
talented wide receiver for the Buckeyes. Whenever he made his
collegiate decision, it came down to Ohio State and Miami.
He's a Miami guy. He's a Miami guy. Nobody knew
whether or not he was gonna end up playing for
the buck guys, for the Hurricanes.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
He's had an outstanding run for Miami.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
For Ohio State, Miami has kind of been, you know, fine,
without him, but it's been one of the major conversations
leading into tonight's game. The other big conversation is Ohio
State trying to repeat as hard as it is, and
when Ryan Day spoke to the media yesterday, he was
(30:25):
asked about the importance of the people in life and
around the program that have been leaders for Ohio State.
Little at a lengthy will listen to a little bit
of It.
Speaker 9 (30:34):
Always comes down to people. So when when you're winning,
I wouldn't say it's easy. Nothing's easy, But I think
when when you go through a setbacker, you go through adversity,
that's when you really find out about people. You find
out about the people that are around you, You find
out about you know, how how tight your group is.
(30:56):
And I think that it's been said before ward to
Ohio State, you win with people and making sure that
you have the right people around you.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
So Ohio State, that's an interesting kind of angle because
they've had incredible turnover in people.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Last year. Jim Knowles, their defensive coordinator, leaves goes to
Penn State.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
I was a disaster. Your offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, wins
a national championship with Will Howard as his quarterback. Goes
to Las Vegas. That was a disaster.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Chip Kelly today became the offensive coordinator at Northwestern. What
do they do?
Speaker 2 (31:30):
They give Matt Patricia a chance in the college game
and you give him some dudes, and he was pretty
good this year, really good this year, elite this year. Meanwhile,
on the offensive coordinator side of things, the turnover continues.
Brian Hartline takes over as their O seed, does a
fantastic job, so good that he gets hired as a
head coach at USF South Florida, and now they've got
to go with a new play caller, which is the
(31:52):
old play caller. It's who else but Ryan Day. So
constant turnover, but they've had good people in places that
have Ohio State in a spot where they had to buy.
They've got a chance to repeat, and they're doing it
with two new coordinators and technically a third when you
consider that Hardline's not even gonna call plays after calling
plays all year long. Meanwhile, Miami has kind of become
(32:15):
the place where transferred quarterbacks go and excel under Mario Christobal.
Last couple of years we saw cam Ward develop into
the top pick in the draft, and this year you've
seen a guy who's had a roller coaster ride in
Carson Beck get things right just in time to help
Miami find themselves in a position where they're in this
(32:35):
quarterfinals of the College Football Player.
Speaker 8 (32:37):
Yes, certainly, I think all of us saw some of
the stuff, some of the noise surrounding the end of
his tenure over at Georgia and then him starting hit
his new tenure at Miami. And because he's so quiet
and reserved and didn't get much time in front of
the microphone in front of the media, I think some
narratives kind of they ran on their own, and being
(32:58):
around them from day one, thing that really stands out.
He's all about team, he's all about his teammates, and
his work ethic is off the charts.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
So media day today didn't really give us any good
I guess you could say bulletin board material. But it's
gonna be a fun one tonight. The number wildly has
not moved at all, no movement whatsoever in the line
between Ohio State and Miami. I'm just making sure there
was no shift. I say all this and all of
(33:28):
a sudden it's like, whoh, it's out. A seven and
a half opened at nine and a half stays at
nine and a half. No real shift whatsoever. The only
place where you've seen a little bit of movement is
in the total. This game open at forty two and
a half and is now down to forty and a half.
So I don't I don't know if that means they're
foreseeing a little bit more of an offensive struggle than
(33:50):
what they might have. But Ohio State Miami tonight six
thirty Central, seven thirty Eastern, the Cotton Bowl first quarter
final game. Ohio State looking to repeat and looking to
do something in these playoffs that hasn't happened yet in
the very short era of the twelve team playoff. The
(34:12):
team with the buye no team of the first round
by one last year. But also remember no team that
played on the road in the first round one last year.
We've already seen that happen twice with Texas A and
M and in Alabama they came here to Oklahoma and
beat the Sooners. But should be a fun one tonight.
Miami might be getting hot at the right time. Ohio State,
(34:32):
I mean again, consistently has been one of the best teams,
if not the best, in college football. The only blemish
on their record the Big Ten championship game, lost to
Indiana Exercise the Demons, and beating Michigan this year, beat
Texas to start the season.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
It's really good football team. It's gonna be a fun
one tonight.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
And I'll tell you what, if you are someone that
doesn't care about college football, but yet you're an NFL fan,
this might be the game with the most NFL prospects
on the field. I mean, there are dudes that you're
gonna watch get drafted in April this year, in April
next year, in April the following year. I mean, Jeremiah
Smith might be one of those guys next season that
we're talking about as potential top pick in the draft.
(35:10):
That's how good he is at a receiver for Ohio State,
so well worth through time. Ohio State in Miami. Right now,
I'm leaning towards Miami covering the number, but I think
Ohio State's gonna win the game. And as it stands
right now, it's very split. It's very split money wise.
Fifty nine percent of the bets have been placed on Miami,
(35:32):
but fifty eight percent of the money has been on
Ohio State. And as I said, a line that's seen
zero movement. All right, when we come back your turn,
we'll get your calls at eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six six three
sixty nine, and our first trip through the tweets to
the show. Ben is out.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
I'm Chris Plank sitting in Lorrain and Cooper here on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
All Right, welcome back in it's been malor Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Lorrain and Cooper here. Ben is off.
What's been getting back? He didn't like vacations, does he? Lorena?
Speaker 4 (36:09):
He hates vacations?
Speaker 2 (36:12):
All right? Man? Goodness man, Hi, I got I gotta
shoot you guys this picture. That's a good little treat
that we got. Happy birthday to Jesus. Celebrate with a
little smoke on New Year's Eve for many of you.
Happy New Year's Eve too, question, Coop, Lorena, I guess
Loraine will start with you New Year's Eve worth the
(36:32):
celebration or overrated holiday thoughts?
Speaker 6 (36:38):
I think I like it?
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
I like the idea of rebirth right, like re setting
your goals. It's a nice little you know, like monopoly
when you go around the board again, right, yeah, yeah,
I like it actually passing go.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
So yeah, Coop, which way do you stand?
Speaker 4 (36:56):
I like dressing up too well.
Speaker 6 (36:59):
I think that, uh, Lorena's answer is a little ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
But that being said, Lorena's answer is a little ridiculous,
you know what, Coop.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
That being said, you guys have to be in the
same room.
Speaker 7 (37:13):
I do think that it is a fun It's like,
you know, it's a reason to party, right, so why not.
But I don't think it means anything. It doesn't mean anything.
It's just another day on the calendar and another another
rotation around the site.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Behind it, i'm o ears meaning behind it? Go ahead,
like the rebirth, the wiping away of the year that was,
those types of things. Yeah, let me look it up, Okay,
go ahead. So Coop, I would assume by your approach here,
you're kind of like me, where there's no big plans tonight.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
No, I have I have plans.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 7 (37:49):
But like I said, I think it's a reason to like,
you know, go out and have fun and do stuff.
But like I mean, and you know, you toast to
like a good New Year. Sure, but like the like
you know, like resolutions and and any like deeper meaning
behind it being a new year, I just I just
roll my eyes at it a little bit.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
I I have constantly thought that if you need a
day on the calendar to suddenly say all right, this
is when I'm gonna be healthy or this is when
I'm going to start eating right, I've always kind of
pushed back on that. It's like why not start? Why not? Now,
you know, why not just go ahead and do. It's like, well,
hold on a second here, I've got to have that date.
And I don't want to question anyone trying to get
(38:32):
into a fitness journey. But I will say this. I
always laugh whenever people call it amateur night. It's like,
oh dude, it's the amateur night. Well I'm sorry, Chad
that you're chugging down tall Boys on a Tuesday and
that makes you a better alcoholic than the people that
are going to fire it up tonight. But I mean,
come on, oh yeah, no uh Lee.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
He actually complains about that because on big holidays, even
the bars that he goes to on a regular basis,
they have chuck like cover turn right. He's like, well,
you guys need to go home and let us regular
people out here.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Interesting.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Interesting, that's a way to see it.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
I have a lot of friends who feel the same way.
That lead us a lot of friends that feel that way.
It's like, I'm not going out on New Year's Eve.
I'm like, well, that's fine, but you're kind of telling
on yourself that you're probably more of a drunk than
everyone else. It's going out and having fun tonight. Hey, Lee,
So in your opinion, then Lrena, you're buying into the refresh,
(39:28):
the renewed start. All things are, all things are new,
and it's worth celebrating.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
Yes, a time for rebirth, fresh starts and making you know,
good on your human life.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Okay, I listen. I don't have a hot take on it.
I'm just always curious because for some it's the biggest,
i mean absolutely the biggest day of the world.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
You know, it's New Year's Eve.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
It's where they party, it's where they celebrate, it's where
they wipe clean everything that is once again new.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
And then there's other people that just couldn't care less.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
I will say as I'm as I've entered, you know,
kind of becoming an elder Statesman.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
I appreciate it more. I feel like it comes around
a lot faster.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
I feel like the one thing that's kind of bad
about New Year's Eve is that it's I feel like
we just celebrated New Year's Eve, going from twenty twenty
four to twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
It's like, sure, happy New Years, Like did we just
do this like a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
But I use it as an opportunity to say be smart,
don't drink and drive, don't do it, celebrate like crazy crazy,
but make sure you have a sober rite. There's so
many people out there, and if it's lyft, if it's uber,
whatever it might be, there's so many opportunities to make
(40:55):
sure that you don't have to risk it. So don't
start twenty twenty six in jail. It's Fox Sports Radio
stick around
