Speaker 2 (00:26):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh what is going on?
I hope you're enjoying your early morning hours over here.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
Here more than welcome to chime in eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox. I'm gonna blab for a few minutes.
I'll get to the calls here. I'm not gonna lie.
I'm gonna blab for more than a few minutes, but
(00:46):
then I'll get the calls. I've got an NFL topic
in front of me. I can't help myself. Okay, So
Seth Wickersham. I hear some people say Wickersham. I don't
know if it's Wickersham or Wickersham. It looks like to
be I'm gonna go with Sham. Whatever his name is. Seth.
He has a new book coming out in September. It's
(01:08):
about quarterbacks, but some excerpts of the book have been released.
They were released a couple of weeks ago, and one
of the juicy details is that Bears quarterback Caleb Williams
initially did not want to be Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Okay,
so this came out a couple of weeks ago. You
might remember. Some of the bullet points were Caleb's dad,
(01:30):
Carl Williams, he wasn't a fan of his son playing
for the Bears. He said, Chicago is the place quarterbacks
go to die. And according to Wickersham Wickersham, Wickersham, wicker whatever.
He says that Carl Williams also met with lawyers and
agents to look for a way around the NFL draft.
(01:52):
This is how much they were anti Bears, not feeling
the Chicago Bears. They even considered. He was trying to
find out if his son could sign with the UFL team,
that's right, the United Football League. He's like, can my
son sign with a UFL team and then become an
unrestricted NFL free agent in twenty twenty five and then
(02:13):
be able to pick whatever team? Can we do that?
Is that a thing that those are the steps they
were taking to try to avoid the Bears. In the end,
Caleb Williams didn't want to force his way out of
Chicago or whatever, talk all the trash in the world
about Chicago, or play this game of I'm not going
to play there and basically force his way out, make
(02:36):
it so untenable where the Bears are just like, yeah,
we're just not gonna select this guy. So Williams said
he didn't want to do that, and he quote wasn't
ready to nuke the city basically playing that game. So
that's the backdrop. Why you might already know all of this.
Why am I restating it? Well, we've got new information
(02:58):
over here. Caleb Williams Bears quarterback on Wednesday this week.
He attempted to clear the air, or shift the focus,
or change the narrative or all of the above. It's
kind of what he was doing over here. So this
is the happy spin on all of those details that
(03:21):
are in SETH. Wickersham's book that's going to be out
in September. This is what Caleb Williams does to kind
of put a happy face on everything that was out there.
Check it out.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
And I want to come here and you know, be
the guy and be a part and be a reason
on why, you know, Chicago Bears turn this thing around.
So that last thing that was said and all of that,
I think was the most important thing is that I
wanted to be here, that I love being here. I
love my teammates, you know, I love all the people
that that got me here. Family friends, Ryan, Kevin, you know,
(03:55):
Fluse and and Shane, all those guys that you know
went through that all of that process with me to
get me here. But it was a it was a
you know, all those things, like I said, with thoughts,
but the main goal and the main objective of being
here is to turn around us why I was selected
number one.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Wow. Okay, So that is man. That is a very
very ultra positive spin on the things that emerged from
that book. So I love that he says, you know,
that last thing that that was the real important thing,
that I want to be here in Chicago. You know,
all those other details about I don't know, me trying
to avoid the Bears and seeing if I could sign
(04:34):
with a UFL team. No, that's not the most important thing.
The most important thing is I eventually wanted to be
in Chicago after not wanting to be in Chicago whatsoever. Initially, Like,
that's not the most important thing. That's just that's a
funny spin to me that that would be like this,
That would be like, let's say you're a single guy
(04:55):
and you're out and about and there are a lot
of females around, and just picture these females like the
NFL type thing with with Caleb Williams. You know, Caleb
Williams is looking around like, oh man, I'd love to
go to the Minnesota Vikings, right bears. Yeah, that'd be
like you as a single guy, all these girls are around,
(05:18):
You're like, wow, look at the hot blonde man. Who
oh look at the redhead over that.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Nice. And then you're like, look at that lagoon creature
over there. And then somehow you end up with the
lagoon creature. And now you're trying to spin it. Liked,
I was interested the whole time. You mean, what do
you mean? No, Like, the most important thing is that
I wanted to be with the lagoon creature. I'm with
the lagoon creature. We're making it happen, baby, that's what
(05:46):
we're doing right now. That's what he's trying to do
is spin. This is if this was the oneed destination
the whole time, when we know it wasn't. This is
just a happy spin on everything the other thing is.
And I guess this is where I'll do my Big
Ben impression. Right. I can't do it nearly as well
as Big Ben. I haven't even practiced, so it's gonna suck.
(06:08):
I'm just let's lower the expectations. Let's temper everything right here.
But you know Big Ben does his format at the
top of each hour where we'll say something like I've
got TMI, lack of foresight and mulligan and we'll combine
all these things together and make some chocolate tuxedo cheesecake.
(06:31):
Is what we're gonna do. That was so good, Thank you?
Speaker 5 (06:35):
Mary?
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Was that all right? That was great? I appreciate that,
very nicely done. Now, the girls, Mary Mack and Brianna,
they got some cheesecake tonight. It was girls night out,
and I don't think cheesecake was eaten tonight. But I
did ask them their favorite flavors, and that's breeze favorite flavor,
like the chocolate tuxedo. I've not indulged in that type
(06:57):
of cheesecake. But that's what we're gonna do. Combine all
these things together. Now number one, we will go with
tm I. This is the deal with the Caleb Williams story.
This is a classic case of too much information. Unless
(07:19):
you think Wickersham is the most irresponsible, irresponsible journalist of
all time and he's got false quotes and false reports.
It just false facts. And unless you think that's the case,
then it's too much information from Caleb Williams and Caleb's dad.
This is a story for after Caleb's NFL career, not
(07:44):
going into year two. Okay, if Caleb Williams has a
decorated career, Let's say he puts up some individual numbers
for a long time, maybe some great team success. Maybe
he messes around and wins a Super Bowl or two.
It's possible, and all of a sudden, this book and
there are these details of like, yeah, initially want to
go to the Bears. If my dad was asking about
(08:06):
maybe going to a UFL team so I could avoid them.
If his career is over and he had all this
success and all of a sudden, those stories land completely differently.
That's like a barroom story you would tell your buddies
and everyone's like, get out of here, no kidding. Really,
it's like a fun thing at that point. But going
(08:27):
into year two after he was sacked sixty eight times
as a rookie and the Bears went five and twelve,
this is not the time for these type of storylines. Yeah.
I didn't even want to go there initially, and my
dad is at talking to agents and lawyers and can
we not go to the NFL for one year and
(08:49):
then we can pick our team? Can we do that?
Is that a thing? That's not what you went out
there going into year two after you struggled for most
of your rookie season. That's just not smart. And that's
why it's a total lack of foresight. How could you
not know this would be the aftermath. It's like they're stunned, like,
(09:12):
whoa holy cow? We gave Wickersham these details thinking they
were like kind of cool fun facts, and all of
a sudden people are freaking out about it. Weird that
you've got Bears fans that are like, what the hell?
He didn't even want to be here? Really, You've got
NFL fans that are like, wow, listen to what Caleb,
he didn't want to be there. They're talking about signing
(09:34):
with the UFL team, YadA, YadA, YadA YadA. All of
a sudden, the new head coach, Ben Johnson, he didn't
even been there. He hasn't addressed anything, and he's addressing
these Caleb Williams stories that are coming out details in
this new book. So it's a lack of foresight. It's like,
Caleb Williams, you have all this positive momentum for the
Bears offseason. They upgraded their offensive line, they made some
(09:57):
additions to their interior offensive line, made a couple of
draft picks that could pay dividends right with this offense,
could be difference makers. Colston Loveland, Luther Burden, these guys
could make a difference. And all of a sudden, there
are all these details emerging in a book and you
(10:17):
have to put out these fires like that's just not smart.
It's a lack of foresight. And the last part, the mulligan.
That's essentially what Caleb Williams is doing with that SoundBite
from Wednesday, He's basically asking for a mulligan. He's like,
the most important part is the last part of me
wanting to be here, not the UFL No no, no, no, no, no,
(10:39):
that's not That's basically Caleb, without directly saying it, He's
basically saying, look, my bad, too much information. I stepped
in it. Can we just pretend that all of this
information isn't out there? We do? Can we just start
over again?
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Can we do that?
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Like that's basically what he's say saying right there, because
he did, he stepped in it. That those are details
that should not be out after a rookie year that
was shaky at best. Those details should not be out
after Caleb's rookie year and Jaden Daniels' rookie year. Jaden
Daniels was a rock star in his rookie season, the
(11:21):
number two overall pick. He played much better than Caleb
Williams did as a rookie, and so you can't have
those I'll put it this way, if Jaden Daniels, if
those details came out with Jaden Daniels after the stud
rookie season that he had put up numbers, led his
team to the NFC Championship Game in year one after
(11:42):
a four win season, they won twelve games, made it
to the NFC Title Game, if those details came out
about Jaden Daniels, like, yeah, initially I didn't even want
to go there. I gotta be honest, Like the Minnesota
I thought that would have been a great landing spot
if the planets aligned and yata YadA. It lands completely
differently because Jaden Daniels had so much success as rookie season,
(12:05):
Caleb Williams did not, so it lands differently. You have
to know that. You have to have foresight to know
how people are gonna take it based on the context.
And Caleb and Carl Williams is like they're out to
lunch on that They're just like, we're just sharing some
fun facts. That's over sharing. That's the equivalent of calling
(12:26):
out sick of work, just calling yeah, I just I
don't know, man, I feel horrible. I don't know what happened.
And then all of a sudden, you're posting pictures at
the baseball game on social media, Like that's over sharing.
You're gonna get busted. What are you doing? Why would
you do that? That's the whole thing with Caleb Williams,
and I'll put it this way, it's an unnecessary hurdle
(12:51):
that he put in front of himself. And also the
Bears organization. But it's not a hurdle that they can't
get around or over. This just goes away magically. If
Kayleb Williams goes out there this year and plays well,
if he's productive, if the Bears are winning games, it's
not even a foot note. It just poof goes away.
But if Kayleb Williams is struggling, he's getting sacked again,
(13:16):
the Bears are losing games. Still, this story is gonna linger.
So they're trying to get out ahead of it and
trying to put the flames out when they have the
lighter fluid in their hands. They have the lighter fluid
in the matches in their hands, and now they're trying
to put the fire out and trying to dampen it.
It's like, why'd you start it in the first place.
(13:36):
You should have known this is what it would be,
but it's like they didn't have any idea. All right,
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox is your phone number.
I'm gonna get to the calls coming up next, first
thing I do. Oh wow, we got lots of them
right here. Let me get out. First off, we got
at least a minute. My guy Jerome is in Charleston.
(13:57):
I've talked to Jerome over the years. I'm curious what
he's up to. Jerome, Fox Sports Radio, what's going on?
What's going on? Man?
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Hey, Brian, Dad killed William's story. That is such a
non stories.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
They boring me talking about this. I got a real
story for you.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
And involves Beyond Sanders and his son Sharlow and.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
This joy has got about that bores me, Jerome, I
can't stand. Bores me to tears. I don't want to
hear that.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (14:24):
I'm just kidding that I was doing my Jerome from
Charleston impression.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Hey, now what is it?
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Tell me? Tell me what it is.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
He beat the guy up, put the guy in the hospital.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
The guy ended up suing him.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
Beyond's involved with this massive cover up about what went
on between his son and this man and the guys too,
Beyonna and his son and they walk do any they
want you to pay him on anything? And the Buccaneers
go out and draft this guy with her with something
like that hanging over his head. Honey, why is that
possible if I had done something like that? Someone? Do
(15:00):
you know how much these the time to be given me?
How keep beating the crap out of a guy. All right.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
I just saw the story again again the other day.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Hi, may hell is this a non story? The media's
not talking about this? Why if Deanna have that much
power with the media that they can cover something like this?
This up. It's been going off for like almost ten
years and there's nothing no one can do about it.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
So, like, I gotta be honest, I don't know the
details of the story. So what happened, Shiloh beat someone up?
And what it's the end of the world. What's going
on here? I don't understand what you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Notop out of a guy in high school? Okay, this story,
it's got to be close to ten years old.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
And Dion went to all kind of degrees.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
To cover this thing up. About the evident thing happened.
He beat a man up and he touched down another
guy in high school. Okay, all because he's crazy as
hell and the buccaneers got him on the home there roster.
Why he's crazy? Nothing and there's nothing anybody could do
(16:06):
about it.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
And the meeting refuses to talk about it.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Or do anything about it.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
I don't know what you want me to do about it,
Like it's uh, like I don't know, people get in fights.
I don't know what to tell you, like like parents
are going to cover things up. I understand where you're
coming from on it, But I don't know, man, unless
like there's some serious harm or someone was beaten within
an inch of their life or I don't know. I'd
have to know all the details of this story, but
I don't know that it's it's a story that you
(16:35):
care about. If Sanders isn't attached to it, you know,
I don't know, like h Randy Moss got into a
fight when he was in high school. You know, I
don't know that you were up in arms about it then,
you know, years ago. So I don't know, but we'll
turn the page from that. I appreciate you checking injur
Rome eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Is your
(16:56):
phone number?
Speaker 6 (16:57):
Man?
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Listen. I laid out the caleble man had point did
a big bet impression, and Jerome was like, not impressed,
not impressed. Talk about something I care about? How about that?
Man thumbs down to the Uh what do they call that?
What's the word of the the mona? Something I should
I'm a radio guy, I should know that monologue.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
There it is.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Yeah, the monologue. Goodness, I've been radio long enough. I
forgot the terminology. Yeah, Jerome was like monologue, double thumbs down.
No is what he told me.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
Right there.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
That's fine, We'll rally all right. Feel free to check in.
I'll get to the militia coming up right around the corner.
If you're on hold, stay right there, we'll get to you.
I want to get to this momentarily as well. This
team is the biggest threat to our long term happiness.
I will let you know which team that is coming
(17:55):
up shortly. I'm probably no in for Big Ben mal
Or keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maler
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
It is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian no in for
Big Ben Mahler. I'm gonna get to the phones here momentarily.
But man, let this Blake Shelton wash over you here,
ready for a new job. Let Express Employment professionals help well.
Express helps people in all industries find work. Our sweet
spot is logistics. Roles An. Express never charges job seekers
(18:32):
a fee go to expresspros dot com.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Uh, Mary Mack on the Ones and Tuesday Night, this
is an amazing job. She asked me for a song request.
I threw Blake Shelton at her. I don't know what's
wrong with me, but no. I was watching Jimmy Fallon
last night. They had a replay and Blake Shelton was
doing this song live. I was like, it's actually a
really good song, not bad at all. It's catchy, hook
(18:57):
gets me, sticks in my head. Very well done. I'll
get to the team that is the biggest threat to
our long term happiness momentarily. First of all, let me
go out to the phones here, Mexico. Mike wants to
check in over in Texas. We didn't even plan this, Mexico, Mike.
What's going on? Man? You're on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
Hey, Brian, back to your Indiana Knicks thing that.
Speaker 8 (19:22):
They played harder.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
That's weak, that's really weird. Is it is bad taste
in my mouth?
Speaker 6 (19:30):
And I got no dog in the fight. But they're
in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Speaker 8 (19:38):
How can you say they played harder?
Speaker 6 (19:40):
Now, if they would have said we know it hard,
that's just bad. It looks bad sounds bad. I mean,
these players in the NBA, they're an elite group. There's
not that many of them. They should play as hard
as they can every game, and you know that they don't.
(20:02):
I listened to you on the weekends and when you
fill in, and I know when that on their light
goes on, you bring your very betch why can't they?
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Well, yeah, well thanks, Mike, I appreciate that. Yeah, it's
it's an NBA playoff game. It's the Eastern Conference Finals.
Like why why?
Speaker 6 (20:20):
Why?
Speaker 2 (20:20):
After a game? I put it this way, I would
want the team I root for to be petrified of
having to truthfully say that after a game, you know
what I mean. I don't ever want a team to
sit there and be like, yeah, they just played harder
than us. They all the fifty to fifty balls they
(20:43):
went their way. They just out rebounded us, loose balls,
they got them all, Like, I don't know, man, they
just they wanted it more, Like how does that happen?
That blows my mind? But yeah, you'll hear that it's
a playoff games. I don't understand the Yeah, we just
didn't have focus or energy tonight. You didn't have focus
or energy It's one thing. If it's like we just
(21:04):
couldn't buy a shot, I get that. That's fine sometimes
you're cold. But energy and focus, how does that ever
lack when you're one win away from the NBA Finals.
I don't understand how that. That's what Pascal Siakam said,
and he was right. The Knicks just they brought more energy,
(21:27):
they brought more physicality, they brought more focus, they brought
all of that more than the Pacers. I don't understand
how that can happen when you're one win away. I
just I've got no explanation for that. It doesn't make
any sense. You know, our guy Poppy in San Diego,
he makes a lot of sense. He's fining us here.
What's going on Poppy here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Hey, no, big love for you.
Speaker 7 (21:50):
Glad you're feeling.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Better, and you know, thank you, buddy. I appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (21:55):
Yeah, yeah, my pleasure. You know, when you're feeling in
for the Ben Malley Show, you know, he's my mantra.
I love hearing different voices and different opinions and know
you're a part of the real family.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
And well, I appreciate that, Poppy. That's great man. Moving
up in the world.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
No, you're welcome, man. You know, I just wanted to say,
first king about Sean Hallibordon. The only person that matters
who shows up is Scott Foster.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
That will guarantee, you know what's crazy, poppy, you know,
like I don't know, I'm like the one person that
halfway sticks up for for Scott Foster. I'm the one.
I swear, I'm the one person on earth that halfway
sticks up for the guy where I'm not. I'm not
(22:45):
like he's the best official of all time. I'm like,
he's not as bad. He's not as bad as people
make him out to be. That's as far as I
can go with it. But I'm the one guy that's
ever said anything halfway positive about him.
Speaker 7 (22:58):
I swear, well, I love that that year you're saying
the truth right dur in the fact. He's a great official,
He's awesome, and he's made us a lot of money
bling blink, you know if you know what I mean.
And ninety percent you know, on the playoffs, so we're
gonna be doing good. And I got some free picks
for you. You know, I know you love doing sports
fitting and stuff, Like I got a free pick you know,
everyone's going crazy and I'm laughing so hard. It reminds
(23:22):
me like, you know what, the nixt one against the Celtics,
and we're just gonna go co New York News, your
co CO New York New, YOURK crew, And tomorrow we're
gonna go with Mets against the Rockies. That kids at
four ten pm. And I'm really loving the New York Mets.
The run line minus two and a half take him
out plus four oh five. So we're gonna make that
(23:43):
bling blink them out. So that's my free pick for
you guys.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
All right, taking on the Rockies. That's normally a good
way to make some money. Rockies have not actually been
crushing it this year, so all right, it's crazy that
the run line is, you know, two and a half,
sometimes three and a half. That's how much the Rockies suck.
You know. That's a rough one, Poppy. I hope it
comes through for you, because there's nothing worse than like, yeah,
(24:07):
I was fading the Rockies and the only lost by
one or two. You know, that's a rough life right there.
But I'll be pulling for you, buddy. I hope that
comes through. I appreciate the free pick. Poppy, good stuff
as always. Man, let me get one more in here.
Let's get blind Scott over in Boston. Let's all howur
trio right here? Yeah, Hey we Scott.
Speaker 8 (24:29):
I'm a big fan. I wouldn't usually do this by
I like you a lot, and I'm just curious, like,
what's up for your summer? You going to any weddings?
You've got like niece at their nephew's graduating college, You're
going to high school? You got any big events in
the next three months. I hear you everywhere. I'm a
Brian no historian, like I follow you from You were
living in New Orleans, then you were in Las Vegas.
(24:50):
I've seen you in the hospital. I had to tell
Blind Emmitt about told me about it, like I've been
in the hospital a lot in my life. Saw I
was going to reach out to it, but I don't
think you really wanted to hear from me, so I didn't.
But I'm glad to hear you here. Like but one
other thing, I got three points right now. I got
Stefan Diggs, Bill Belichick, and the Celtics. Which one I
(25:13):
want to talk about all of them? Let me just go.
So here's Stefan. Yeah, here's Stefan Diggs. He has that
purple powder.
Speaker 6 (25:21):
You know.
Speaker 8 (25:22):
My point here is I think that I probably if
my high school had football, I think I could have
maybe been an NFL player. I don't think these NFL
players are that smart. I'm witnessing Bill Belichick. He pretended
like he was a genius his whole life when he
was coaching football. I don't think there was any genius
behind that man. I think he's a bumbling pool. And
then moving on to the Celtics, I think Joe Mizzula
(25:42):
is a great coach. He's playing chess while everybody else
is playing checkers. That was like a historical team. Jason
Tatum's knee blew up and they lost, but he didn't
pressure the guys. And when Van Gundhi left, it blew up.
It totally blew up the whole Celtics franchise, you know.
And then I want to go into basketball here with
the New York Knicks franchise. We don't have any New
York Knicks calls because WFA is on simultaneously at the
(26:05):
same time. The guy on there used to be Mike
Frances's producer, is really not that great, but they're listening
over there, but they really need the New York Knicks
to get into the finals. This is coming out of
the Boston media market. I don't know what the thinking
is behind this, because if the NBA has so much money,
so this is how I look at it. The Celtics
were just sold for six point five billion. Chris Playing
(26:25):
verified this with me. These guys have a lot of money.
I mean, if you're a billionaire, you might not have
five hundred million dollars to pay on a luxury text.
But don't buy a team if you're going to blow
it up and then totally break it down. I don't
think that's necessarily what the Celtics are going to do,
but it's hard to say. The way the economy is
going right now, the economy doesn't look good. We're all
scared about our jobs. It's not advertising money, so anything
(26:48):
could happen. But when you look at Oklahoma City in
Indiana Panther as a final in the NBA Finals, I
don't know if the NBA can afford to take a
hit like that because it won't draw what the New
Necks with draw, or maybe the Lakers. But it's hard
because I mean, I went to school for accounting, but
I'm not opening up their books their books or anything.
And I got another dynamic. There's a lot of blind
(27:11):
people that call the show. I actually have my door
barricaded right now. There's this guy that lives in my building.
He is like this kind of strange. He he doesn't
like me, confronts me. He holding the door for me.
I'm like, dude, you've got to get out of the
way of the door. I can't pass by, you know
what I mean. Like if you're a blind person, if
you're holding the door for a blind person, the blind
person will just fall out of the door or they'll
(27:33):
crash into the door threshold. So if you're holding the
door for the blind person, the blind person can't enter
through the door because you're standing where the door handle is.
So a blind person actually wants to push the whole,
the whole selves through the door so they can feel
themselves fill the door, walk through the doorframe, get through
the door safely. So if he's negotiating and then this
is coming but people, but it's like a deal breaker
(27:57):
with this guy, so me and him get to fight.
The police called Like this is like normal for around
here in Boston. The Boston people like somebody's going to
the bathroom in their cheerios lately. Dude, it's not the
same Boston. It's been like Boston in the past ten years.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Blane Scott, you gotta be careful with those fights.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Man.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
My guy in Charleston, you know Jerome and Charleston, he
is very anti fighting. You know, he's a pacifist, So
you gotta be careful with those fights over there in Boston.
Blind Scott, just do me a favor. Okay, please please
keep your safety going there. But listen, I appreciate you
checking in. Listen. I'll say a couple of things based
on what you're talking about. First off, Pacers Thunder is
(28:38):
not a ratings bonanza if that ends up being the
finals matchup. But the NBA is going to be just fine. Like,
we got to tone it down with all these conspiracy theories,
my lord, it's insanity. I can't handle any more conspiracy theories.
I can't like. Some of them make zero sense, and
(28:59):
some of them seem to make sense until you really
think it through and then you're like, yeah, it doesn't
make any sense. How many conspiracy theories are we going
to have you go back to the NBA draft lottery,
that's the most common one where it's like, oh, let
me get this straight.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
Right.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
The Dallas Mavericks they traded Luka Doncic and then somehow,
some way they get the number one overall pick and
they're gonna draft Cooper Flag. And we don't think that's fixed. Really, Okay,
pause and think that through. Why on earth would Adam
Silver risk the integrity of the entire league just to
(29:40):
put Cooper Flag in Dallas? Like why why would he do?
Speaker 6 (29:45):
Why? Why?
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I don't understand these people that subscribe to conspiracy theories
left and right. There was a conspiracy theory last night
when my buddy's back home in South Bend. He's a
sports better and he's like, oh, there was a boost
on one of the sports books where you could get
shake gilges Alexander scoring thirty five points, you could get
a better payout. But he had thirty four points and
(30:10):
he checked out of the game because it was such
a blowout with a lot of time left, like maybe
eight minutes left or whatever it was. And my guy
Ja was like, oh, you're gonna get conspiracy theorists left
and right, saying it's rigged. And he sent me screenshots
and people are like, oh, if you didn't know gambling
is rigged, this is an example of what it's like, dude,
like whatever, maybe it was DraftKings. I'm not sure which
(30:34):
book it was, but let's say it was like DK.
Whatever money they were going to lose on that SGA
prop boost, they're not even gonna notice it. And that's
what people are directly pointing to, like, see, this is evidence.
This is exhibit a that sports gambling as a whole
is rigged. Because SGA left the game in a complete
(30:58):
blowout when he was one point away from cashing the
odds boost, It's like, what are we doing here, man, Like,
I don't know. At some point we got to trend
the other way on conspiracy theories. It is, it's the
trendiest thing to just buy into them the other thing
real fast that I know, the Celtics are no longer
(31:18):
in the playoffs, but I am not a Missoula guy.
I'm just not. You just watch that Pacers offense. It
is freaking brutal. I don't know what it is with
they have so much talent and so little ball movement.
And listen, just so you understand where I'm coming from.
I am not anti isolation basketball, but I look at
(31:40):
it like drinking. I would like you to be a
social drinker, right, I don't want you to be doing
keg stands nightly. That's how I think of ISO basketball.
If you do it here and there, Hey, we need
a bucket, shot clocks running out Tatum, get us a bucket, fine,
no problem with it. But to rely on it time
(32:01):
and time and time again like the Celtics do, it's ridiculous.
Their offense a lot of the time is they'll just
stand around and watch Tatum dribble the ball, try to
make a couple of moves for the first twenty seconds
and then hopefully it gets a decent shot. And that
was our set. That was just watch Tatum, let's run,
(32:22):
watch Tatum again. Run that back. It makes no sense.
Reminds me of the Warriors before Steve Kerr was there.
The Warriors with Mark Jackson, much different offense. Didn't have
the same movement, didn't have the same motion, didn't have
any of that compared to the Steve Kerr offense. And
that's what I see from the Celtics. They could be
(32:42):
so much better offensively than they are. They're way too
talented what they have on the court. They can space
the floor, they have shooters everywhere, and they have this
stupid like, let's just watch Tatum offense. I'm not a
Missoula guy. I'm just not. The offense should not look
like that as often as it does, and it does
time and time and time again. I don't get it.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
I do not get it.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
But uh, he's out of the playoffs, So what does
it matter? All right? Eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox is your number. Love being interactive over here. It's
very good stuff, very nice. Okay, We'll get to the
one team that threatens our long term happiness. This team
is the biggest threat to that. We will do that.
Right around the corner. We are broadcasting live from the
(33:28):
Fox Sports Radio studios. I'm Brian no In for Big
Ben Malor. Keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Brian no In for Big Ben Malor here on
Fox Sports Radio. For over forty years, tire Iraq has
been helping customers find the right tires for how, what
and where they drive. Ship fast and free, backed by
free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like tire, mobile,
(33:52):
tire installation, Tireck dot com, the way tire buying should be. Okay,
so I believe that we have a big threat to
our long term happiness over here. Now, it's not gonna
be a consensus take here because I realize we're gonna
view things much differently based on our preferences and all
that YadA YadA. But if you look at the NBA playoffs,
(34:12):
I think it's been great that we will have a
new champion for the seventh straight year. It's the first
time in NBA history that we've had seven different champions
in seven years. I like this spread the wealth thing.
Now you can argue differently. You could argue that a
dynasty is more compelling. The David Goliath thing is really interesting.
(34:36):
If a team is going for a three peat or
a fourth championship or what have you, that makes it
more intriguing to see if this next team can dethrone them.
And okay, I'll listen to that. Maybe some people like that.
I prefer new champions, new blood unless it's my favorite
team that's stacking twenty titles in a row. You know,
(34:58):
I'd be fine with that. But if it's not my
favorite team. I prefer new Blood for a few reasons.
If you look at these last seven years, imagine what
the NBA would look like and imagine how the storylines
would land if the dynamics were much different. Let's say
there was a dynasty these last seven years and a
(35:18):
team rattled off I don't know, four championships over the
last seven years that's happened before. What if there was
a three pet and a gap in between and another
two titles. Think about the nineties Bowls they won six
and eight years. What if we had something like that
In these last seven years. We've got one team that
(35:38):
won four or five championships and then there are just
a couple more years where a different team won. What
if Yannis was still looking for his first championship, so
the two time MVP doesn't have a championship, How we
would look at Yannis, how we would talk about Yiannis?
It would land completely differently. What if Jokic didn't have
(36:01):
that one title. It's a three time MVP with no rings.
That's all you would ever hear about. It puts up
regular season numbers, but where are the rings? Where are
the rings? Where are the rings? Repeat for the nine
thousandth time. That would be miserable. Imagine if Lebron didn't
win a ring with the Lakers. Now we know how
(36:23):
it goes. There are a lot of Lebron haters out there.
There'd be plenty of people that would be excited and
happy about that. But for the people that are maybe
on the fence or thinking it would be awesome, think
about it from another point of view, where every time
Lebron James has talked about all you hear is he
hasn't want a ring in La yet has done that.
(36:44):
That box hasn't been checked, so it would be much
much different. Kawhi he went to Toronto, never won that ring,
and maybe that Warriors dynasty just kept going. You think
the NBA would be better there, I don't. I prefer
it the way it is right now. Seven new champions
over the last seven years. I think that's compelling. I
(37:04):
would take this NBA over the Hey, just wake me
up when it's the Cavs and the Warriors in the finals,
because that's what we know it's gonna be. That was
not compelling to me. That's the reason why the NBA
tinkered with the luxury tax threshold and made it really
difficult to put three superstars together. That's why they wanted
(37:26):
to avoid one team becoming a dynasty and just running
it back and back and back and right, Like, I
think it's been compelling. Like, we've had more twenty point
comebacks this NBA postseason than the last four postseasons combined.
We've had six this season. We've had five over the
(37:48):
previous four postseasons. So we've got all these crazy twenty
point comebacks. We're gonna have a new champion. I think
that's better. I think it's a more interesting dynamic. There
are a lot of fans of a lot of teams
that would prefer this over the Hey, we got two
three teams that are just towering over everybody else, So
(38:08):
I think this is better. The one team that threatens
that long term happiness, if indeed that is your definition
of long term happiness, right, sharing the wealth, more champions
over more years. The one team that is a direct
threat of all of that is the Oklahoma City Thunder.
And look, I realize we did this back in twenty
(38:28):
twelve when the Young Guns Westbrook KD. James Harden they
won the Western Conference. They're heading to the finals, and
you're like, man, this team, how much success are they
gonna have over the years to come? And they had
one finals appearance and one finals loss and that was it.
That was it for the success. So hey, it could
(38:52):
happen where OKC doesn't win a championship this year and
they don't turn into a dynasty. But I find it
hard to believe they're not gonna win a championship this year.
They are young, they are deep, they are very talented,
and they have been chewing teams up all season long.
They are eighty and eighteen if you include the playoffs,
(39:13):
that's a record eighty and eighteen. They're twenty nine to
one against the Eastern Conference this season, and I'm supposed
to believe the Knicks are gonna beat him. The Knicks
would get eaten alive against OKAC if that's the finals matchup.
The Pacers might threaten to win a game or two,
or I just don't see OKAC losing that series. They're
just better, they're deeper, their defense is outstanding. The Pacers
(39:37):
don't defend on that type of level. So I think
that threatens the spread the wealth NBA that we're enjoying
right now. Is okacr comeing up next. The reality for
my favorite team shows that the reality for another franchise
will suck as well.
