Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, thanks for listening to The Ben Maller Show podcast.
It's me Ben. Be sure to catch us live every
weeknight from two to six Eastern eleven pm the three
am Pacific right here on Fox Sports Radio. You can
find your local station for The Ben Mallers Show over
at Fox Sports Radio dot com, or stream us live
every night on the iHeartRadio app by searching f s R.

(00:25):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh, let's go, let's
go on. Oh you know what day it is? Is
a Wednesday? Is it Thursday? Who cares? We have a
Rose Bowl to recap. We have I think one of
the more interesting NFL conspiracy theories involving why Jason Garrett

(00:49):
is still the head coach of the Cowboys to hash
through and anytime you're talking NFL and it's the playoffs,
it's about what a twenty year tradition that we're trying
to bury the page. So we'll dive into it all
on yet another edition of The Ben Mallers Show. And
to make sure that the Mallar Militia is happy tonight,
the entire crew is back eighty six Big Ben Eddie

(01:13):
Garcia on updates. You just heard him tonight, We'll get
Eddie in here coming up in just a bit. Rady
Rob Roberto on the wheels of steel, Cooper, Loop Coop
and his big head was all over my Twitter feed
this week. Coop, the Mallar Militia loves you in Seattle,
big headman. That's that's big time. So the cruise here.
I'm fired up. The best way to get in touch

(01:33):
with the show is always is to pick up the
phone and call, though I don't think I've used my
phone to make a call in a year, but sho
should at eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine nine six six three six nine. Twitter
is not only the best way to venture frustrations just
basically get as angry as you want, but it's also

(01:54):
to me the best way to get in touch with
the show. I'm at Plank show at Eddie on Fox,
at Rayder to score Rob and always forget it, Coop.
What is It's something about the Broncos on there or
something as far as your Twitter? Yeahhaha, you forgot. By
the way, Congrats on the win. Congrats on moving us
up five draft spots and earning the title of the
Denver Broncos being a team to talk about during the

(02:16):
off season, right, I'm still bitter about that at you
h Broncho fan for a coop as well? All right,
and as always, as always, were all about your interaction
throughout the night. As I mentioned tons of NFL to
get to tons of bowl reaction. Though I found it
interesting last night in trying to get into the poll games,

(02:37):
it was an adjunct failure. I mean, there's a lot
of things that when you look back on, you're like,
maybe that segment worked, maybe that didn't. I came to
the realization that we have a level of couldn't care
less at about nine and a half out of ten
when it comes to bowl games in college football at
this point. And I and I'm not just saying people

(03:00):
that are up at this ridiculous hour of night in
the Central and Eastern time zone. It just seems to
be that way in general. So I think I hope
that maybe what we had tonight in the Rose Bowl
Sugar Bowl was okay, even though it may have been
the longest college football game ever. And we always get
into a good old fashioned Big ten v SEC kind

(03:22):
of comparison when you have two of the blue bloods
go at it. But today, for me, as we kick
things off on another edition of The Ben Mallor Show,
today wasn't even about college football and its bowl games.
And I'm a diehard college football fan. I mean, it's
my job, it's what I live, it's what I do.
Today was more about celebrating what was, without a doubt,

(03:46):
one of the greatest tenures in sports, and that is
David Stern as the commissioner of the NBA, as he
passed away after what a brain hemorrhage about a week
and a half ago. I understand, I get it that
when someone passes away, we usually get caught up in

(04:08):
the greatness of the person and usually and typically we
can make someone out to be just a little bit
more than they were. I mean, we've all seen it,
We've all experienced it. In life. We remember only the good.
We typically push aside the bad. It's natural, it's what
we do. It's life, right and death in this case.

(04:31):
But today, to me has been pretty amazing. And in
celebrating the life of David Stern, we either I guess
I should say the royal we those who covered him closely,
those who were on the NBA beat or a team
beat It's almost as if today was about accepting the shortcomings,

(04:52):
the temper, this stand office office nature that came with
one David Stern, all the things that we usually don't
talk about when someone is past. It was almost like
we were celebrating today with David Stern. And I feel
very confident when I say that, and this comes from
someone who, as a Lakers fan, was very bitter about

(05:14):
the whole Chris Paul Saga, without a doubt, he was
one of the greatest commissioners in the history of professional sports,
not just the NBA, not just the NBA where maybe
you know Larry O'Brien was a commissioner and Adam Silver
as the commissioner. Now you know in the NFL, we
could probably go about four deep in some of the
commissioners that we know. Major League Baseball obviously had a

(05:37):
little bit longer, less depth chart wise of commissioners we
may know, most of us only had David Stern as
the commissioner of the NBA in most of our lifetime,
So I understand that it's kind of a small sample size,
but to me, I think with what he did, he was,
without a doubt, the greatest commissioner in the history of sports,
and I don't just relegate that to the NBA. He

(06:00):
wanted to expand the global reach of the NBA. He
wanted the league to grow, and it did. I listen,
we can. We can sit here and debate tonight if
you want what's wrong with I don't think we need
to get knee deep in Oh my gosh, the NBA's
and so much trouble, and the TV ratings are down
and nobody's watching. It's it's a West Coast league now,
after we grinched and moaned that it was too much

(06:21):
of an East Coast league for a long time. I don't.
I don't think that's the nature of what we do
here tonight, based on the history and the legacy that
David Stern his lap. He wanted to grow the sport
and he did internationally was a big deal to him.
You know, we there was a great Sports Illustrated cover.

(06:41):
I guess you could say, maybe early in his tenure
as the commissioner, that had NBA teams all over the globe,
I mean from Tel Aviv to different places across England.
I mean, it was really his goal. It's kind of
funny now to see what the NFL is doing. But
it was really his goal to try to have a
team over seas. Now, while the game grew and became

(07:03):
more global than ever, and you had guys like the
Tony Kup coaches of the world and the Dirk Nowitzki
that brought a foreign brand of basketball to the NBA,
we never quite reached the Oh, I don't know, is
if a fair way to say it is a true
NBA team overseas. I mean, the Rockets kind of became
China's team because of Yaoming, kind of look at Dirk

(07:24):
Nowitzki in Germany, but you never truly ended up with
a team overseas like he wanted. But to that he
grew the brand globally. I think one of my favorite
David Stern issues was the dress code. When Tim Duncan
would be showing up in what sweats in a hoodie.
What we didn't realize is that was truly how Tim
Duncan dressed, and in trying to implement a dress code

(07:46):
that at the time many people looked at and tried
to find some underlying theme beyond just that he wanted
guys to look the part. I mean, I can I'm
old enough to remember conversations on this network about Oh,
it's the undertones of trying to tell people how to dress.
How dare you? David Stern? And it's kind of catapulted
the league to where pregame has become almost a fashion show.

(08:11):
He was a guy to me that didn't have a
problem being the bad guy and from someone I'm not
good at that, you know, I struggle with that. I
had to block my first person on Twitter because I'm
not a I can't handle criticism to a certain degree.
I don't like being the bad guy. I like being positive.
I like being glass at full kind of person. David
Stern couldn't care less about this, and I appreciated that

(08:35):
he wasn't afraid to be the least popular person. He
definitely didn't shy away from the standoffish nature of some
of his owners and would go head to head and
didn't really seek out popularity. He embraced conflict. I suck
at conflict. I asked my wife, she wins every argument.
Ask him like Sunday Night host Arnie Spanier, instead of

(08:55):
fighting with him. I have a brain. My head explodes
and I'm just like, I'm muting the mic. I'm gonna
cuss out loud and now we'll have this conversation. He
was all about it. I mean, I'm still bitter about
vetoing the trade of Chris Paul, but he would accept
the repercussions from anybody who was going to complain. And
if you look back at what many have pointed out

(09:18):
tonight as maybe his shining moment, nineteen ninety one, Magic
Johnson diagnosed with HIV. I mean, as as a sixteen
year old kid watching that, I was pretty sure Magic
Johnson was going to die and that anyone that shook
his hand was probably going to get HIV. That's just
how clueless we were. David Stern stood up and said, no,

(09:41):
that's we're going to embrace Magic, and they did, and
it kind of changed in a lot of our eyes
the way in which that disease was perceived and the
way in which the NBA would become more player centric.
And I just as as a rap on this, I mean,
I wish I could have been a fly on on
the wall for some of those conversations that he had

(10:02):
with Mark Cuban, because those had to be fascinating. But
I think I think in life, we all kind of
look at different ways to determine success. We either want
to grow our brand, we want to make more money.
We want to be better husbands or wives or our partners,
and whatever it might be. We want to find, for

(10:23):
some of even more strength than our faith. We want
to read more, we want to exercise more, whatever it
might be, maybe put the phone down more. As we're
kind of in this era of, or at least this
time right now, of New Year's resolutions, but as we
sit here today and we celebrate the life and the
legacy of David Stern, it appears to me as if
he's one of the few people who kind of accomplished

(10:44):
just about every professional goal imaginable that he had for
the NBA. I mean, I don't have to sit here
and tell you about the tape delay era. I mean
in the early eighties, the NBA Finals were on after
your local news, and I was like, coming up next
Johnny Carson, and after Johnny Carson Game four of the NBA,

(11:06):
and again it was it wasn't on NBC, but it
was on CBS at that time, and his tape delayed,
so it was a disaster from a TV rights perspective,
and he changed that. Oh and then one other thing too,
which is kind of wild looking back now, the NBA
had a big drug problem in the early eighties. And
I'm not just talking weed. The I don't know what
the best way to describe the cocaine on the aras

(11:29):
nose candy, whatever way you want to look at it.
It was an issue in the NBA, and he became
one of the first commissioners to come up with a
league wide drug testing policy and then implementing a plan
to kind of stand up against it. So David Stern,
who had been the commissioner for gosh, the better part
of what thirty years in the NBA from eighty four

(11:50):
to two and fourteen, passing away today in one of
my in my opinion, one of the greatest commissioners in
all of sports. And as the night rolls on, we'll
spring Clint some of the reaction from the players throughout
the league, former players, administrators, writers, As you might imagine,
tributes have been pouring in throughout the evening. But he

(12:11):
was something pretty special and he grew the NBA to
what it is today. All Right, with that all in mind,
let's welcome in the crew. He is back after taking
one night off hashtag. No day's off for Eddie Garcia,
the Man, the Myth, the Legend is back. Missed you
last night, Eddie. How is your New Year's Eve celebration?
A subdued but enjoyable, just family get together. Was not

(12:35):
any kind of outrageous get drunk and collapse somewhere. It was. Yeah,
it was very low key, very low key. Yeah, it
was kind of low key on the show. You know,
I have a I guess I have a plan whenever
it comes to this program. It's it's either the two
energy drinks I have behind door number one, or it's
the six pack of PAP's Blue Ribbon that I have
behind door number two. We didn't have to break out

(12:57):
the PBR last night, but but you were missed and
it was somewhat subdued on the show as well too.
So I did you get to take in hockey today
or no? Absolutely no. You know I'm a huge hockey fan,
so I mean there were there were I was sad
to miss Minnesota Auburn because that looked like it was
a pretty good game. But I checked out the Winter
Classic thought it was an awesome event that down there
in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl when I first heard

(13:19):
it was at the Cotton Ball, it's kind of like,
I don't know about that, but it turned out to
be be awesome. As somebody who has spent many a
saturdays in the Cotton Bowl, yeah, I was. I was
surprised by how smooth it seemed everything went. I mean,
there's you realize there's two games that are played at

(13:39):
the Cotton Bowl the entire there's two football games there's
and it's not the Cotton Bowl anymore. No, the Cotton
Bowl is played at at and T Stadium, right where
the Coweys played. It's OEU Texas and it's I can't
think it's um like Texas Southern and somebody plays and
that's it. So you have basically two events in an

(14:01):
arena all er stadium, I should say, all year long.
And then they added hockey and I don't know, Eddie,
I guess it looked like it went off without a
hitch today, didn't it. Well. I know they had some
weather issues a couple of days before, a lot of
rain and they had to like completely redo the ice
a couple of days before, which isn't something you just do,
you know, in like a day. It takes a couple

(14:21):
of days, but evidently they were able to get it.
They worked you know, through the through the night, and
we're able to get it to work out. And the conditions,
you know, those outdoor games, they're never great, but it's
you know, the same for both sides. It's kind of like,
I guess playing a football game and some inclement weather.
You do get the puck bouncing around a little bit
here and there. But but it looked like you went
off pretty well, smooth baby. Well, we'll have to talk

(14:42):
a little bit more about the Lord's game hockey coming
up a little bit later on in the program. Ready,
Rob Roberto running the show Coop on the Phones at
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Roberto, any crazy
stories from New Year's Eve? Or were you subdued as well?
Didn't end up slumped over anywhere on Tuesday night? Nah

(15:02):
chilled at the house with the wife, daughter, my brother,
sister in law, and the godson. So look at you, Coop.
Someone had to get wild on this show last night. Coop,
did you no? Yes? No? Maybe? You know, well that's
not the best answer, to be fair. Coop's uh choice

(15:24):
to party with leads to being subdued if you will
right exactly, I'm not I'm not really uh, you know,
I don't drink, so yeah, don't get too wild. Did
you see the lines in Illinois? By the way, today
Illinois became Illinois became, I think what the fourth state

(15:46):
to legalize weed recreationally. We have medicinal weed here in Oklahoma. Boys.
You have to get a I don't think the word
is a permit. A doctor has to kind of give
you what's basically called a marijuana card, and you can
go to a This shows you how stringent the process is, Eddie.

(16:07):
You have to go to a website and type in
a few things to get your weed card. But in
in Illinois today, boom, it became legal and the lines
were substantial. So kudos kudos Illinois today. A good laid
back New Year's Eve. We didn't do a damn thing
on this show last night, and I I stand up

(16:29):
against the claims already being made by Terry on Twitter
at Plank Show, at Planks on Twitter, at Eddie on Fox.
You can hit up the whole crew. We did not
do list radio last night. Terry, stop it. That's not
mymo that's not what this is about. How dare I
actually mentioned some of the top stories from the decade,
and I think we mentioned two. I don't know if

(16:49):
two's really a list, is it. Regardless, though, keep the
tweets coming at Plank Show at Eddie on Fox. Of course,
everybody should be following at Raider Underscore rob and if
you don't know it by now, the best way to
get in touch with Coope is at uh bronco Fan
or by hitting us up with the phone today seven
seven ninety nine on five. All right, guys, I got
a conspiracy theory for you on why it's taking so

(17:10):
long in Dallas to make a decision on one Jason Garrett.
We'll dive into it next. It's a Ben Maller Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Doing it with so many guys.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Many agree the

(17:32):
Ben Maller Show is more fun when you interact with
us on Twitter. It's like the wild West, two dity
characters at a time. Debate the issues of the day
with our community of knuckleheads, and be part of the
lunacy by following the man in for Ben Maller. That
would be Chris Plank. He is at Plank Show. I
believe right. That's great Chris Flank Show. That's correct, right,
And you can tweet that and follow me. Eddie Garcia,

(17:54):
your humble sidekick, the Voice of Reason. I'm at Eddie
on Fox. My first thought was that Drake just had
an orgasm and I from the Geico Fox Sports Radio
studios in for Ben Mallor, it's Chris Plank. Eddie. Can
we talk real quick about the big controversy that's going
on on Twitter right now? Sure, I don't know what
it is, but this this is big, This is big.

(18:16):
I know that list radio is very much frowned upon
by Big Ben, but I'm sure movie radio is right
up there with him as well too. But he doesn't
watch movies, so that would be yeah, that would be
any But you're not missing out anything by not watching
the program. There, I said it. I said it. I
kind of figured that out. It's pretty sure. I remember

(18:39):
at the time I didn't think it was very good.
Then I just watched the predeo again and I'm like, oh,
it looks terrible. That don't get me wrong. If it's on,
which it's very rarely on. You know, there's certain movies
that when you flip around, they're always on. It's like, oh, hey,
there's there's Office Space again, or there's the First Star
Wars again, They're always on. This isn't one of those

(19:02):
that's always on. So when it's on, I might watch
it just for hilarious reasons. The clip you threw up,
the cheesy nature of it is just bravo. But if
someone trying to sell you that it's it's hard hitting
must see cinema, cinematic brilliance from the program, please tell me. Now,

(19:24):
quite a few people actually are telling well, I guess
I have to remember too. We are talking about those
of us who have a little bit of different hours,
so maybe our minds work a little bit differently. But yeah,
you're not, dude. You're not missing out on anything, not
missing out on anything at all. Except my favorite story
about the movie the program was they actually was it

(19:48):
was it. It was the program where they had to
ditch one of the scenes because the dudes were laying
in the middle of the road and kids were doing
it and they were getting run over by cars. I
think it was the Program that was a movie where
they legitimately had to ditch a scene because kids were
going out and trying to reenact it and basically dying.
So yeah, quite a movie. You all are dying on

(20:10):
the hill for there. The Program, get out of here,
I think, I think, but Pootie Tang might be better
than the Program, to be honest with you, so you're
not missing anything, Eddie Garcia, don't let them talk that
trash on you on Twitter. Right. Well, if I ever
have a choice between the Program and Pootie Tang at
late one night, I'll know which one to choose. Well,
you might need to check in with Coop before you

(20:31):
actually watch Pootie Tang. You want to get your mind
right so you can truly enjoy the cinematic brilliance of
I think Chris Rock and what was one of Louis
c Kay's first movies. It is um, Pootie Tang was funny.
It's something man Verberto thumbs up. Then that's all I
need is this is a man who this is a

(20:52):
man who was absolutely giddy at seeing Rambo Last Blood
and are two big thumbs up. So there you go.
Definitely things I had not prepared for to go in
depth on tonight on this. Now you know what I
have to do. I'm gonna try to find I've got
to watch it during this. It is so bad. It's hilarious,
is what it is. I mean, let's just be clear

(21:13):
about it. I'm not We're not going to win any
Oscars or Binny's with Potti Tang, but it's well, it's
not even the name of the movie. I think it
is right. I'll have to look at the program. Is
not worse than uh Roberto's endorsing the program. I know
it's I'm not endorsing it, but it's not worse than Puttang.
Putty Tank is so bad. Here's the best part. We'll

(21:35):
save all this Dallas Cowboys stuff to laughter. Eddie's update.
Here's the funny thing about the program is about when
did it even come out. I want to say it
was like ninety nine, not Holy smokes, I wasn't even
close When it came out of ninety three. It was
kind of wow, man, you think colleges really do this.
This is crazy. And then as we all get older,

(21:56):
we're like, oh, yeah, this is kind of minor compared
to what typically happens in at college. You're telling me
just one guy is juiced out of his mind on steroids.
Come on, but yeah, it's if you want a laugh
Eddie from just a purely pathetic perspective. And I get it. Guys,
I'm putting myself in the crosshairs to night with Eddie.
Then you may want to watch it. You may want

(22:17):
to give the shot, but you're not really missing anything.
It's just pure humors. So there's your movie talk for
tonight that I can only provide for you because I
see people taking shots at Eddie because he hasn't seen
the program, and I think he's better off for it.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR

(22:41):
to listen live. Kelly Ubre had a nice little brock
block on Lebron jameson and I think that was the
big story. Okay, listen, this is this is what sucks
as we bring up the program and then someone will
make a point and I'm kind of all in on
at midnight. Walker writes, the program does have Halle Berry
at her very finest. Must see cinema. Yeah, you think

(23:02):
that's actually the Last Boy Scout. Last Boy Scout was
with halle Berry. It was pretty fan I did see
the Last Boy Scout. I don't know, I can't what's
he doing up there? He's damn man. I mean the
part where the guy pulled out the gun on the
field er Buno and shot another player, Billy Blanks at
a little much much Come on, man, Well, I got

(23:24):
it wasn't Billy. I think it was. I think it
was Billy Blanks. And and by the way, I love
when and they did this in the any given Sunday
as well, where they're playing a football game at night
in the rain with no lights for some reason. Where
are the lights? Right? If the lights get turned off?
In this game so dumb the field is just a disaster,

(23:46):
like guys can barely walk. It's like it's professional football,
but it's on a mud soaked field like the seventies.
Halle Berry in the program would have been what is
that right? Twenty eight years years old? So that's prime
halle Berry right there. And as you mentioned Last Boy
Scott as well too. But huh interesting, Well, that is

(24:07):
a that is a good reason to watch I will
I will say no, absolutely no, no, no, you are agreeing? Sorry, yeah,
I use no as a way to agree, which makes
absolutely positively no. So I'll keep that in mind going forward.
I don't know what the hell is going on with
my brain right now. There. It was meant to be like,
oh yeah, and somehow no came out, Eddie. I have
no idea what's going on right now? And then I'll

(24:28):
just mentions this very impressive tweet with the word roadhouse. Yeah,
I mean, are we talking bad movies tonight? Because anytime
your star is Patrick Swayzey and it's Dalton. I mean,
come on, you have a superstar on your hand. So
movie talk to replace list talk here on the Ben
Mallers Show. Oh my gosh, Ben Maller's throwing things at
the radio right now, let's move No. What's what's great though,

(24:49):
Chris though, is that this happens on Ben show all
the time. He'll go through this well thought out, researched
hot take monologue and then we'll come in and we'll
talk about something like that's something like food or something
and now and then everyone will tweet about the food.
They wouldn't even they wouldn't even reference his money. Now,
it's pretty awesome. Speaking of food, why do you do

(25:11):
this to me? Speaking of food, Eddie, I've got to know.
Are you guys on board with the new tradition in
bowl games, which is dousing the coach with the sponsors
material and other words. Let's see what her Edwards get yesterday,
a Tony the Tiger frosted flakes bath instead of a
gatorade bath you had, I think earlier this year you

(25:35):
had a guy what am I saying? Earlier this year?
Earlier in the bowl season, you had a dude take
a smoothie bath from his team, and then but yeah,
you had the cheese It's that were doused on the
winner of the Cheese It Bowl, which, if I'm not mistaken,
was air forced. I don't know what you could do.
As far as the All State Sugar Bowl, I don't

(25:55):
know how you could. I would like I would like
to have seen Nick Saban have a bag of orange
was in grapefruits poured on his head. That would be
pretty cool. That would have infected. And then if you
watch the Sugar Bowl tonight, you're better than we are
because that damn thing took forever. I don't know what
was going on. I understand that Charlie Brewer got injured
and that was a long delay. But as somebody who
has sat through some incredibly long Bowl gamestually one last Saturday,

(26:21):
I don't know if I've ever seen one that lasted longer.
So kudos for you if you made it through the
Sugar Bowl tonight. But why, why in the world do
guys get mad over gatorade showers. I mean, Kirby Smart
was ready to come to blow now, don't. I mean,
it sucks, it's sticky, it's cold, but you're indoors, you're

(26:42):
in a dome, you're in Knowlans. It's crazy there. It
means you won. You won the damn game. I don't
get it. I mean, Kirby Smart was hot after the
game because he took that, And it's always kind of
awkward to me. It's always kind of awkward to me
anytime that you have a trophy celebration and it's just

(27:06):
two dudes that are up there. I mean, usually you
have a whole team and you got a couple of
guys that are like waving and losing their minds and
the confetti falls. Not the Sugar Bowl, you got Holly
row you got the coach and you got the player
of the game, and the player of the game's like awkward,
he just standing there while everyone's kind of looking at him,
like what am I supposed to do here? But yeah, don't.

(27:27):
I don't under Kirby Smart. I'm a big fan of
but I didn't understand Eddie. The anger after the gatorade
shower here tonight makes no sense to I agree with you.
Lighten up, Kirby. All right, what were we going to
talk about? You know what, I'm just I'm gonna save
the Dallas Cowboys stuff because Twitter is good on this
little bro Troller Rights. The program sucked. We're done. Move

(27:48):
on Paul Rights to build the program. The program makes
any given Sunday look like the Godfather. Whoa Paul that's
high praise. And our buddy Pat Quinn, who is in
the beautiful and wonderful land of Lincoln in the state

(28:08):
of Illinois. Rights, Actually he might be on the wrong
side of the river, on the Missouri side. Now that
you bring up the program, what about Blue Chips with
Nick Nolty as a poor man's Bobby Knight. I actually
liked it. Shack and Penny were entertaining. Bobby Hurley in
a Hoosier's uniform was fantastic. Listen, we can't do this
all night long. We'll never get off of it. That's
the problem because people are actually diving into what I

(28:32):
mentioned in the opening segment, so I have to get
there and at Big twelve sucks, which kind of fits
for this bull season. Unfortunately, Pete Calliberry Boys was actually
the flint Stones. I don't Can you confirm that, Roberto,
can you confirm that? I don't. I don't know if
I've seen The flint Stones. Yea, I never. I never

(28:54):
watched it. Not sure. I'll have to to google up
a make sure during the break, I guess is the
best way to go about it. All right, to what
we were talking about in the open, the loss of
David Stern Today, Larry checks in. David Stern did a
great job, but by far, to me, the best commissioner

(29:14):
in all sports was Pete Roselle. He took the NFL
from an afterthought to the premier league it is today.
From nineteen sixty to eighty nine, the merger, the first
Super Bowl didn't even sell out, and now it's the
most watched show every single year, Liz, I will not lie, Larry.
I'm sure there's a lot of prisoner of the moment

(29:34):
takes whenever it comes to David Stern and we are
I mean, he passed away today. From what I saw
from the National Football League, You're right, I'm not old
enough to remember what it was like pre AFL NFL merger,
and I don't necessarily know if you are either, But
if you look back in you study it, you see, Wow,

(29:56):
it's kind of incredible how they went from where they
were to what they are now. I've seen the NBA.
You know, I was a fan when I would be
begging Dad to let me stay up to watch the
games later. Yah, can I watch Lakers game? Please? You know,
I grew up on the NBA. I grew up on
Magic versus Larry, Michael Joy and the Bad Boys. So
to me, the way that that kind of elevated this sport,

(30:18):
and then to see it continue to grow with thirty franchises,
you know, I'm again this is showing my age a
little bit, but I remember when there wasn't a Charlotte Hornet's,
there wasn't a Miami Heat, and obviously we have an
Oklahoma City thunder now as well too. And this was
a dude that believed in certain areas and then obviously
gave them the resources necessary to have success. So we

(30:38):
could debate it all night long if we wanted to.
But bottom line here is, yeah, I'm sure if we
went into a depth chart we could probably find a
Pete Roselle that might deserve a little bit more credit.
Some might say, oh, well, you can't forget about buoy
coon or whichever way you want to go with it
as far as other sports. But in terms of this moment,

(30:59):
Larry I would say that I consider David Stern to
be the greatest commissioner in all of sports. All Right,
when we come back to the Ben Mallers Show, I
have to get to this Dallas cowboy hot take. I
have to get why I think and why I feel
that Jason Garrett is still employed. We'll do it live,
and we'll do it next. It's the Ben Mallers Show.

the night and now lie from the Guico Fox Sports

for giving me the heads up riberto that the mic
was hot as I was rapping along with Nate Dogg
and Warren g. True story. Whenever I moved from my
hometown of Wood River, Illinois the gorgeous six one eight,
I was very excited to find out that my new

(32:03):
home in Tulsa had a twenty first in Lewis. So
one of the first things I was able to do,
because the song had just come out, was hocal left
on two one in Lewis. It was the little Things
back in the nineties. Boys. The little Things were brought
to you in part by Discover Card. We treat you
like you'd treat you. Good stuff on Twitter tonight, keep
it coming. We'll kick off our number two with all

(32:23):
the best tweets. I don't need to tell you to
follow Eddie Garcia. Go do it though, at Eddie on Fox,
who probably already are at UH Bronco Fan. Yes, Roberto,
we're talking some Raiders later in the show at a
Raider Underscore rob By the Way Coop at UH Bronco Fan.
We are talking some Denver Broncos as well too, because
there's some there's a little drama in Denver that's Bruin

(32:44):
as far as the front office is concerned. So we'll
get to that coming up here in just a bit.
But I've teased this for like two segments, so let
me get into it here. To me, the biggest story
in the NFL should be the playoffs, right we are
getting set for four games this weekend. Based on everything
I hear on the network, this is the end of

(33:05):
the Patriots dynasty on Saturday. But I've been here. I've
seen this act before. We've tried to cancel the Patriots
on about fifty occasions over the last twenty years, so
I'll believe it when I see it. With that said,
to me, the biggest story is still Jason Garrett and
what's going on in Dallas, so through I guess you

(33:26):
could say research and maybe more than anything, just a
couple of pods that I've been listening to. I heard
an incredible theory, conspiracy theory Eddie Garcia, that I want
to pose to you in Roberto and Coup and see
if you're buying it or not. So here we go,
the reason for the delay, the reason why they haven't

(33:48):
made an official with Jason Garrett yet, which, by the way,
they're having a third meeting allegedly today, a third meeting.
I have no idea what you could possibly meet about
after the first two. You have nine years of evidence
of what it was like on the field. But again,
Jerry Jones is a billionaire. I'm not. I'm just going

(34:09):
to assume he knows what he's doing with that set.
Is it possible that the Cowboys are waiting on their
Numero uno candidate, And no, I'm not talking Lincoln Rally,
which we'll get too later. And no, I'm not talking
Matt Rule or any other potentially our potential college or

(34:32):
former college coach like an Urban Meyer. Is it possible
that they're waiting on Josh McDaniel and they're doing so
with the thought that they're going to pair Josh McDaniel
and Tom Brady and Dallas, thus they cure and fix
their Dak problem, which I don't I kind of like

(34:52):
Dak Prescott and I think he's a pretty good quarterback.
I think there's gonna be a market for him. But
you are talking about Jerry Jones, who, at last check,
even though he probably looks a little better today than
he did when he first bought the team, Jerry Jones
is seventy seven years old. He's not a spring chicken anymore.

(35:12):
And they feel like they have a pretty good roster.
They got a damn good offensive line when they're healthy. Eddie,
would you buy the conspiracy theory that the reason we've
seen no movement on Jason Garrett yet is that Dallas
might be trying to work once the season is over
for New England to get Josh McDaniel and make a

(35:33):
big splash by bringing in presumed free agent quarterback Tom
Brady this offseason. I'm personally not buying that. I think
that it's reasonable to think that Tom Brady's best days
are definitely behind him and that he's declining at a
rapid rate. I know he doesn't that much around him,

(35:55):
but he's gone from a player that can elevate others
around him to one who needs a lot of talent
I think to be an above average quarterback. And Josh McDaniels,
I mean, really him. I don't think that's a big
splash in my eyes for Jerry Jones. I guess, I
guess from my perspective to Eddie, If if that's the plan,

(36:17):
how does Josh McDaniels keep getting opportunity? Did I just
use it in the singular instead of the plural? How
does he keep kidding opportunities? I mean, this dude took
a job and backed out. Now I get it. You're
constantly going to the super Bowl. You have Tom Brady,
and everyone now is okay with the failure once in

(36:38):
your career, because what does everyone always say, Well, ta,
Bill Belichick failed in Cleveland, and look what he's done
in New England. So now every coach that hasn't had
a good stint as a head coach, we think when
they go back to me an insisted for a while
or a coordinator, suddenly they fixed everything. I'll I guess
Ron Rivera getting a second opportunity today with the Washington Redskins.

(37:00):
I think I would believe Mike Zimmer would be somebody
they're waiting for rather than Josh McDaniels. He could fix
their defense, and there's a relationship there. I don't know
what I like that. I don't know what his contracts
DADS is with the Vikings, But then well, I think
what the rumor is and I and again, I've got
some dig in to do on this. That's what the
top of the hour break will be for. But I

(37:22):
think that Zimmer's got a couple of outs in his contract.
And while it might cost Dallas a little bit of
cash and coaches jumping from team to team is a
rarity in the NFL, but there's a dude that had
spent a majority of his early part of his career
in Dallas. But but I mean, could it be a

(37:44):
situation where if Minnesota loses in the first round, they
wouldn't have to worry about any Dallas wouldn't have to
worry about anything because Minnesota might just decide that it's
time to move on. I don't know, but it's still
fascinating to me that we are now almost a week
removed from the NFL season wrapping up, and there is

(38:04):
no closure yet on who the Dallas head coach is
going to be in twenty twenty. We'll talk about it more. Next,
It's a Ben Mallers Show on Fox Sports Radio. Fox

Let's go to our number two. It's the Ben Mallers

(38:26):
Show on Fox Sports Radio. The whole cruise Here Rador
Rob Roberto on the Wheels of Steel Coop taking your
calls at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Though
so far, I will say the only thing peeps are
reacting to is movie radio. You can blame Eddie on
Fox on Twitter for that one. I am all in

(38:47):
now and have been for the better part of the
last week on the Dallas Cowboys job. And I don't
know why I don't like the Cowboys. I'm not a fan.
I had to fight with people last night about the
NFL being better. Dallas is good and I'm not saying
it to hate. Well, I guess I am Hayden. I
just I'm not a fan, never have been, but yet

(39:09):
I'm in this position to where you kind of look
at it and you realize, damn, this is dominating the
headlines beyond anything else. It's we have the playoffs starting
right now, but yet what are people talking about? Boy,
what's Jerry Jones doing? What's going on? Why the delay?
Why haven't we seen any movement? Now? I know that
that's probably falling on somewhat deaf ears in Minnesota and

(39:32):
in Nashville and in places where your team is actually
playing this weekend, but across the board, it's the biggest
story in the NFL right now. So I did a
little dig in because Eddie got in my mind thinking
during the last segment about potential replacements beyond just chasing
a Josh McDaniels and I'll have a couple of notes

(39:54):
on college targets as well later on here on The
Ben Mallor Show. But Mike Zimmer did get extended beyond
twenty nineteen this offseason and ended up getting a one
year extension on his deal, and maybe just maybe being
mentioned this cowboy conversation could get that deal extended longer,

(40:16):
or maybe Rick Spielman in Minnesota. Move on. There was
an article on I think it was. Sometimes I'm hesitant
to give credit to like the yard Barkers or the
fansided sites, because they're just basically aggregation. You say one
thing and that ends up being a headline. It's a
most ridiculous thing ever. But still, this was well done,

(40:36):
and there had been some noise that Zimmer's job is
on the line if they don't make a deep run
in the playoffs, which to me, based on where Minnesota
is now and where they've been over the last twenty years,
I think it's kind of crazy. I think Zimmer's done
a heck of a job, and it might be a
situation in Dallas where he's had many opportunities to potentially

(40:59):
be the choice of Jerry Joints Jones and the Cowboys
for years. I mean, the dude was there in ninety four,
he was there through two thousand and what seven. I mean,
you're there thirteen years and you don't get an opportunity
to become the head coach. You're constantly kind of viewed
as a defensive minded guy, and you not really given

(41:21):
the rein So I could understand two where maybe maybe
for a Zimmer that you look at it and say, yeah,
you know, appreciate the opportunity, but I'm not going to
talk to you. I'm not gonna do it. And I
guess if you go with the motivational mindset. And I
heard Jonas talking about this on was that Monday night.

(41:43):
Minnesota was left out of the playoff promo, so maybe
maybe they've got a little bit more juice on that front.
But as Ian Rappaport reported earlier this week, among the
likely targets include not only three college coaches, but the
potential to trade for someone like Mike Zimmer, who, by

(42:03):
the way, boys, if I call him Don Zimmer for
some reason, when her Eddie reported on Don Larson, I
started talking about Don Zimmer during the break, so we're
off to a roar and start with my mind here
to I said no when I'm meant to say yes.
And I was having a long term conversation about how
I thought Don Zimmer to actually passed away years ago
when spoiler alert he had and Eddie was talking about

(42:25):
Don Larson. So just to kind of defend myself and
call myself out so you don't have to if in
talking about Mike Zimmer, I call him Don Zimmer, just
bust me out on it. We've seen coaches get traded
for before. I mean, obviously, the Raiders picked up a
bunch of draft picks for John Gruden back in two
thousand and two, and I didn't realize this. The Buccaneers

(42:49):
had to send a sixth round pick to Arizona for
Bruce Arians last offseason. But if you truly think about it,
you're looking at a guy that has had I don't
want to say unparalleled success, because Minnesota has been a
team that's gone to Super Bowls before. I don't want
to get too carried away here, but as far as
regular season success, it's pretty impressive what you've seen so

(43:13):
far out of the run that Mike Zimmer has had
as the Minnesota Vikings head coach. Eric checks in on
Twitter Zimmer is going nowhere. The Cowboys have a better
chance of getting Woody Hayes to coach leave my Vikings alone.
Brow That would be something, would it not? If Woody
Hayes may he rest in peace, suddenly shows up as

(43:35):
the next head go to the Dallas Cowboys. Eddie writes,
Brady and McDaniels plus a lego head of Steve Harvey
will end up in Dallas for Jerry Jones and adds
the Jason Garrett conspiracy theory you outlined is true. Edward
Snowdon said, so a political humor. I like it, and yeah,
you know, it's kind of interesting. I was thinking about

(43:55):
it at Shady Shawn for twenty. Don't know what that
for twenty means, Shaw, I don't have to google it up.
But he had actually brought up this theory over the weekend.
And again, I'm not saying that I'm all in on
the idea that Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones are waiting
for the opportunity to talk to Josh McDaniels and their
target and their eyes on maybe making a push for

(44:17):
Tom Brady. But I think it's interesting, and I don't
know would that be considered a combo deal Eddie. I
think you hit it on the head too before we
get to the phones at eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six three six nine.
And I love Tom Brady. I mean, what he's done
is incredible. But if you're going out and you're trying
to find yourself a guy to win you some football games,

(44:39):
Tom Brady sounds all well and good, but are we
not talking about a guy that's on the downward role
of his NFL career right now? Is that really direction
you go if you're trying to generate a spark for
your franchise. I don't think so. No, I agree. I mean,
maybe Brady will bounce back next year, or maybe he
goes someplace else proves us all wrong. But I mean,

(45:01):
we've all been saying it. As as amazing as he's
been over his career. At some point, right age catches
up with you, and usually it hits you hard. And
it seems like that's happened this year. Age is undefeated, y'all.
I know it sounds crazy because we see all the videos,
we see the workouts, we see he's in great shape.

(45:22):
Dude looks like he's in his early thirties. But at
some point, I mean, are he says this a lot
on Sunday nights. Eventually the building stops. At some point,
the skyscraper reaches a level where it can't grow anymore.
And maybe that's what we're dealing with with Brady. I'm
going to call in on this or two eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine

(45:44):
six six three six nine. Let's let's get Christine in here,
who's in Minnesota. A little perspective on Jason, Jason Garrett,
what's going on? Christine? Welcome to Fox Sports Radio either Thanks.
I listened to every night, by the way. And the
thing about Zimmer, there's been a lot of talk locally
about him going to Dallas and the reason why Jerry's

(46:04):
drawing this out as he's trying to figure out a
way to keep um Jason in house as maybe like
a player representative of some kind of scout or something
like that, and then bringing in Zimmer after the Vikings
lose this weekend, which I hate to say it, but
I really didn't really think we're going to um and
that UM the ziggy in whatever are going to clean

(46:26):
house here and start over, so that that seems pretty
reasonable to me. I would not bring in Kevin Stepanski
if I was anyone. He's only had one year of
offensive coaching and he didn't really start doing good until
we brought in Gary Kubiak. And I know Kubiak doesn't
want to head coaching position because of his health, but

(46:48):
he'd be a damn good offensive coordinator. Again, he's done
really good. Um, you know, we're our playoff chances are
crap right now. But with Dallas, you know, I really
think that Jerry's trying to figure out a way to
keep keep what he wants to bring in a Zimmer
or someone like that. It's a fair point, Christine, and
I appreciate the phone call, and I saw this laid

(47:10):
out as well in Pro Football Talk, and I was
going to jump on it here. But what if. And again,
I think we're unfortunately dealing in hypotheticals here, because you know,
by the time that those of you that listen to
the podcast, by the time that you finally download this
on say a Thursday, this thing could be over. I mean,

(47:30):
Jerry Jones could have had his third meeting with Jason
Garrett made the decision that he's moving on, and it's
all well and good. But in this moment, at one
twelve ten am Pacific time, for some reason, despite three
meetings a third meeting coming up, Jason Garrett still the
head go to the Dallas Cowboys. And to Christine's point,

(47:52):
there is the possibility that the Cowboys could be either
negotiating a new contract for someone to coach the team,
or maybe maybe they're trying to find a way to
keep Jason Garrett around, but just not as the head coach.
Here's the theory from Mike Florio and Pro Football Talk.

(48:15):
What if? What if the Cowboys are considering hiring someone like,
as Christine mentioned, Gary Kubiak to be the head coach,
but with very narrow and specific duties. Given the health
issues that caused Kubiak to stop being the head coach
of the Broncos three years ago. Kubiak has rejuvenated Minnesota's

(48:38):
offense this year. Maybe he could do the same in
Dallas with Garrett occupying a new kind of job with
a new kind of title like simply coach. By the way, again,
not hating here, but coach is not a new title, don't.
I don't know where that came from, but that is
absolutely not a new title. We've come up with this

(49:00):
very inventive and creative thing that we're going to call you,
Jason Garrett, Are you ready? Coach? Huh? You like it?
They did back it up though, to basically Kubiak's head
coach or assistant head coach or assistant too the head
coach or co head coach. It continues here quickly. Maybe

(49:21):
the Cowboys will be the second NFL team to essentially
have two head coaches. Now you have to go back
to World War two times, and I guess Eddie, at
some point your Steelers had a blended team with the Eagles.
Go figure with Kubiak installed as maybe a half step
above Garrett, and with Garrett doing most of the heavy

(49:43):
lifting that would otherwise be done by Kubiak. You know,
I would almost I would almost buy Arnie Spanier and
his quote unquote sources with the possibility of looking at
a front office role before. I think anybody would take
less of a responsibility to have someone come in and

(50:05):
take over their job that they've had for a decade essentially,
and then boom, you're no longer the guy in charge.
I don't understand how that would work. Wouldn't you have
guys undercutting each other all the time? I mean, it
would take a pretty solid relationship for something like that
to work. I guess the bottom line here, more than
anything else, is it's a question that kind of permeates

(50:29):
beyond just what we could debate here, and it goes
into kind of the compensation, the opportunity to win. I mean,
facilities aren't really a big conversation in the world of
the National Football League, But it does factor in when
you have a stadium like AT and T Stadium. Is

(50:51):
the Cowboys head coaching job a good job if you're
an NFL head coach, or maybe we need to kind
of pigeonhole that down a little bit. If you're a
college football coach and you're looking for that next step
and Jerry Jones wants you, is that the kind of
gig that you would feel comfortable sliding into knowing that

(51:11):
you're constantly going to have the overlord that will make
every decision for you and Jerry Jones. If you're comfortable
on that, go go do it. If not, it's gonna
be pretty hard to find a gig in the NFL
where you're not going to have power that's just all yours.
Not many people get a John Gruden Bill Belichick set up,

(51:32):
and maybe more specifically a John Gruden set up right
out of the gate. It's like, oh, welcome, Oh you're
a former you're a college coach right now, listen, you're
gonna be the GM go for go find your personnel guy.
That just doesn't happen. I mean, the owners want there there,
say so, I want to get your takes on that.
So we'll pull the crew when we come back on
the Ben Mallors Show. But think about it. Is the

(51:53):
Dallas Cowboys head coaching job still the best job in
the NFL. Is it a big time gig? Absolutely? But
is it a good job? I mean, is it? Is
it a place that should be able to have its
pick of the litter? I'll say one thing in defense
of it, and I can't believe I'm having to defend
the Dallas Cowboys, But they've shown a commitment to a coach.

(52:18):
Jerry Jones has shown that he's not necessarily going to
knee jerk at the first sign of problems. He's gonna
give a guy a chance. He gave Jason Garrett nine years.
They gave Bill Parcels obviously as much time as he
wanted until Parcells lost his mind because he was tired
of the meddling eight seven seven ninety nine On Fox
eight seven to seven nine nine six sixty three six nine,

(52:39):
we'll talk Dallas Cowboys coaching gig and maybe one quick
angle to this that was discovered by a high school
student about a potential another candidate. Could a decommitment be
the key to who might be next in Dallas. We'll
tell you next John Fox Sports Radio. In the overnight,

But then it pumps me up on the phone at
eight seven to seven ninety nine on Fox to see
Christine want to talk about the Mallar meet up. I
thought that was one of the coolest things I've seen
and I can't wait to talk about it. So Christine,

(53:45):
hang in there just a bit. But let me let
me pay off a tease, which is something I am
very bad at. I suck at it. So with that
in mind, Eddie, I'll start with you. Is the Dallas
Cowboys job a good one? I know we mocked Cherry
a lot. Winning seems to matter. It appears as if
he's giving all the resources necessary to win. But do

(54:07):
we still look at it as the primo job, the
gig that he is in the NFL. I have to
say yes, even though I do think ownership is such
a huge thing in professional sports. I think Robert Kraft
is probably the best owner in the NFL, and I
don't think it's a coincidence that his team has done
so well. Granted, he has one of the best coaches

(54:28):
all time and maybe the best quarterback all time, but
I think he's part of it. It's it's that triumph rate.
It's the three. To me, it's the great owner, it's
the great coach, and it's the great quarterback. And you
get that combination and you get what the Patriots have been,
which is amazing. But I still think the Cowboys job
is a great job. You know, I don't know about
America's team, but they are it's one of the more prestigious,

(54:48):
you know, teams in all of sports. I mean, I
believe they're the highest make the most money of any
more money than the Yankees, I believe. As far as
North American sports teams, I know there's some soccer teams
in Europe that might make more be more valuable. But
and you know, I get that Jerry Jones it wants
to be the de facto coaching. I mean, he's the

(55:09):
face of the franchise. It's not gonna be any coach.
But I still, I still think it is a good,
very good job, one of the best jobs in sports,
and just because of the prestige of it, and you
know you're gonna be well compensated, and you know you're
probably gonna have, uh, you're gonna have an owner that's
gonna spend money to get you some resources. So yeah,
I take a good job. Yeah, And I think so Roberto,

(55:30):
what say you? I say no jobs? I say no
because Jerry Jones, as long as Jerry Jones is there
and it's the coach, is not gonna be able to
do what he wants to do. Just like when Al
Davis is still alive, you know that the Raiders could
have Champagne Champaign. He's like, uh, without Davis there, I'm sorry,
I'm not I'm not going there, So I see the
Cowboys right now the same way. Yeah uh, and Coop,

(55:52):
how about you from following the Broncos and kind of
what's been I guess a little bit of a carousel,
though it seems like Fangio has things going the right way.
What I think at Dallas is a gig, good, bad,
and different. I do think it is still a good job, absolutely,
I don't think there's any doubt about that. But I
don't think it's the best job in the NFL. Definitely not.

(56:16):
And Trucker Joe, of course hits us with one of
the great comparisons. Well, guys, since Big Ben always says
the technical definition of best is as good as the rest,
then yeah, it's the best, So technically, I guess we're
looking at it and basically saying, as still of the
vacancies right now, I could probably make a case for

(56:38):
Cleveland talent wise, maybe having a better job. But if
you're looking at the giants, Carolina, Cleveland, and Dallas, which
again as we sit here, it's not open yet, but
Dallas would probably be considered the best job of those four.
Let's get a couple of calls on this real quick
at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Jerry is
in Kansas City and he's on Fox Sports Radio. What's

(57:00):
going on, Jerry Height dam Plank doing well? Man? Thanks
for calling. I mean, I can't believe I'm about to
suggest that Dallas do a smart thing. The best coaching
candidate on the market right now is Eric b. Enemy.
You look at Eric, you look at Andy Reid and
his protege's make up half the team in the ASC playoffs.

(57:21):
You have Doug Peterson, who won a Super Bowl. You
have Ron Rivera who was snatched up by Washington, and
you have guys like Matt Nagy who you know, the
guests the book still out on him, whether or not
you know he can live up to his first season.
But you're talking about guys that consistently turned teams around.

(57:42):
And Eric b Enemy was a running backs coach in
Kansas City first, and you look at the amount of
talented running backs Kent City has had under Andy Reid
and Eric the Enemy, I think it makes too much
sense for Dallas not to take him and signed him
over in an that coach like Jason Garrett. Is it
possible that one of the low key best coaching trees

(58:03):
out there is what Andy Reid has done. When you
think about names like John Harball, Ron Rivera, as you mentioned,
you mentioned Peterson and McDermott and Matt Naggy. I mean again,
I know Leslie Fraser is a defensive coordinator now, but
he's going to get a head coach sooner rather than later.
But I think low key we're looking potentially, in my opinion,
Jerry one of the better coaching trees that we don't

(58:25):
talk about in the enemy would be a great choice
wherever he ends up. And the problem is with Andy
Reid and this coaching tree is that it doesn't get
talked about enough because the guy at the top, which
is Andy Reid, has not had that individual success that
a guy like part Cells or that a guy like
Belichick had, where people pay attention to all the people
that come out of it. If Andy Reid is able

(58:46):
to somehow win a Super Bowl this year and snap
this fifty year long drought Kansas City has had waiting
for a Super Bowl, I think not only are we
talking about Andy Reid having one of the best coaching
trees of all time, I think we can finally move
Andy into solid maybe top and maybe top five coaches
of all times. Good stuff, Jerry, thanks for the phone call.

(59:06):
You know it pains me. I make no bones about
and I am a die hard Raiders fan. I always
have met I always will be, So it pains me
quite a bit to see the Chiefs as good as
they are. And I don't know if this is breaking
news or not, but unfortunately they're not going anywhere. They're
not gonna fall off the map. I mean, Mahomes gets
hurt and they pull out a grade school teacher that

(59:28):
ends up winning a couple of games for him. But
it's kind of hard to root against Andy Reid. I mean,
come on, he is. He seems to be pretty funny
because seems to be pretty self aware and a football savant.
I dude got fired in Philadelphia. I got fired when
twelve and twenty and two seasons and they were like,

(59:49):
we're good. And when he was hired in Kansas City,
I'll be among those and when he was hired, thought,
great job, Kcy, gonna roll you now. All he's done
now since taking over in twenty and thirteen is when
the division four straight years, missed out on the playoffs
once and they went nine and seven the year that

(01:00:10):
they missed the playoffs, and we're an offside penalty away
from playing in the Super Bowl last year. And someone,
I guess would that likely be New England is gonna
have to go to Kansas City or Tennessee is gonna
have to go to Kansas City to beat them. I
just it's our buffalo, I guess too, to keep them
out of the AFC Championship again. Yeah, it's incredible and

(01:00:33):
also incredibly in enraging as well. Fox Sports Radio has
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all

Oh you know what I'm watching right now? I'm watching
the Rose Bowl, the replay of it. I mean, there's

(01:00:55):
nothing else on him. It's two thirty in the morning
Central time. But I will I will say this before
we get back to the phones. Hanging there, Eugene hanging there,
Christine eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox There is
probably there's probably not a better esthetically pleasing event than
the Rose Bowl. And I don't know, Eddie, if you've gone,

(01:01:16):
or Roberto or Coop, if you've gone out there. I went,
you know, two years ago now, I guess three years
ago now. And it's one of those games to where
obviously the game is a key, but you can really
lose yourself in just wow, the feel, the ambiance. This
is going to sound corny as hell, but the air,
I mean, just everything about it is fantastic. It. I know,

(01:01:39):
Twitter acted like they've never seen a sunset before tonight
whenever the sun started to set. But Eddie, it's one
of the best, man and we had a great game
in it tonight. Yeah, I agree. And I don't think
it's West Coast bias for me because I'd much rather
watch an SEC game than a PAC twelve game. But
the Rose Bowl is a special game for me. I
love the tradition of it and there it is something,

(01:02:01):
you know, the old granddaddy of them all. I mean,
there is something about that that is kind of special
and it is. It's an amazing setting. And I know
it was talked about during the game that a lot
of the Big Ten folks, you know, always watching the
Rose Bowl every year because there's a Big Ten team
in there and just dreaming of going out there where
it's nice and nice and warm and sunny. And everything,
and uh no, it's it's great. I love the Rose

(01:02:23):
Bowl um every year and it usually turns out to
be a pretty decent game. As I was telling the
story last night, I can remember being a little kid
and I grew up a big time Illinois fighting a
line I fan, and when they went to I think
it was their first Rose Bowl, I guess UCLA. Yeah,
Trudeau used to work here for a right, That's right.
That was that was big time in my world, and

(01:02:43):
that kind of generated the spark for me in college football.
And look at us now, who would have thought? Not me?
All right, let's let's get a couple of calls in
here real quick, Coop. I know we're I know we're
in the midst of talking Dallas Cowboys and and NFL
right now, But are you okay if I go to
Spokane here and just talk about meetup from the last
last week, and let's do it. Christine and Spokane, Welcome

(01:03:04):
to Fox Sports Radio. What's going on? Hey, how's it
going going great? How are you really good? You're doing
a great job pulling in for Ben Maller, lightly entertaining
slightly it can't be been. Yeah, just slightly entertaining. How
was so we're part of the fun meet up this
past weekend or what? Give me all the details. Oh yeah,

(01:03:24):
we made all the signs and Ed had to bullhorn
and he was like yelling all the chance out as
we're marching towards the stadium. Can you take this through?
Can you take me through kind of the signmaking process?
Because I gotta be honest with you. It looked like
a lot. I mean, do you guys have obviously seen

(01:03:46):
the pictures this involved. There's a there's a Coupe fathead,
There's an Eddie Garcia fat head. There's there was a
Radar rob fat head out there as well too. I
mean it looked like it was a pretty intense process
to put together the signs that we're out there. Christina, Yeah, well,
the fathead signs were actually made by Jay Scoop. We
just did all the ones with the writing, so he

(01:04:07):
spent the money. We just made the cheap ones. Fair enough.
What was it the turnout that you expected it to be?
It was awesome, especially watching the game at the bar
with Ben Maller. It's great. Did he now has been
a cursor when he watches the game? Or is he
just chill watching it. That's what I want to know.

(01:04:28):
Here's just chill watching it, all right. I tend to
be an overcusser, but all right, Well, Christine, congratulations, I'm
sure it was a good time. Anything you want to
add for the crew who wasn't able to make it
out there, for for Cooper, for Roberto, for Eddie, I
wish the all good man, that's add Yeah, nobody else, Yeah,

(01:04:52):
exactly that if if then we would have gone. Thanks. Yeah,
I'm sure you would be to pay for anything that
sounds like Ben, Thanks Christy, appreciate the call you guys. Yeah, now,

(01:05:13):
so Ben, Ben put this together or no, no, no,
no, no no no no, I'm behind on how this all happened.
That was my issue. That was I believe Christina and
Ed were the catalysts behind this. And then a lot
of our loyal listeners up there in the Pacific Northwest
jumped in and as you heard, Jay Scoop apparently made
the fat heads. And by the way, my wife said,

(01:05:35):
I want to get that fat head of you, and
I told her, you get to see my fat head
live and in person every day. What do you need
that for? Right here? But uh no, and and and
as we said, there's no way Ben's gonna go up there.
Uh spent his own money. I don't know how to
suggest that he should, by the way, but uh no,
he um he was invited up there and had his

(01:06:00):
tickets paid for it, okay, and he thought he thought
he was going to get into that Seahawks forty nine
Ers game, and the Seahawks would not give him a
press credential. That is terrible. I mean, I would understand
if he was a filling guy. Maybe it's got a
nationally syndicated overnight show that's on in Seattle, that's on

(01:06:25):
in Seattle, and they're like, nah, we're good, don't worry
about it. You know, we're short on space or whatever
excuse they would give. Yeah, at kudos to that. That
was pretty cool. I brought it up last night, and again,
like I said, I I work a lot, so I
don't get to catch the show a lot live. I'm
kind of a podcast listener more than anything else. But

(01:06:48):
when I saw the group of people that were there,
that's fantastic. Man, that's fantastic. So kudos to the fans,
the Mallar militia for making it happen and instead of
just ending up as a get together. It was like
a I don't know, it was like a march on
this on the Seahawks. It was like take this Seattle,
the Mallard Man March, I believe was what it was called.

(01:07:10):
And Uh, you know, I was surprised because Ben went
to Boston and UH had had to get together. And
I think there was about I'm guessing like ten to
twelve people there, and I thought that was pretty good.
But Seattle now has jumped to the top. They had
They probably had fifteen to twenty people there. I would
say it looked like a really good turnout. So Seattle

(01:07:31):
is set to standard for now. I think, I said,
I think we all know where would would be the
biggest turnout though, Minnesota, I think so, and we we've
got so many callers from from Minnesota. I feel like
k fan Is is definitely up there as far as
you know, the like you know, some of the most listeners. Well,

(01:07:53):
let's be honest, We've had two meetups at at at
minor league baseball games here in the Los Angeles area,
and I think the Seattle meet up beat both of those,
So that sand something. Yeah, you're probably right Kudos Man,
kudos Seattle, well done. It was it was fun to
watch them afar And by the way, I'm glad that
you jumped in and pointed out that Ed had jumped

(01:08:14):
on the phone, because I thought that was Roberto using
a drop on me. I really did. I was like,
what just happened? Did did Roberto grab a drop in
the middle of this? Well done? Ed? Well done, Jay Scoop,
well done, Christine. Appreciate the phone call and the recap,
because did you guys talk about this much on wait?

(01:08:37):
Could you both were in on what Monday? With no
or or did you guys get a chance to talk
about him much? Or no? No, no, not much. We
were kind of waiting for Ben to come back. But
knowing Bend, he probably won't even talk about it when
he comes back. I'd be like, oh, he was like, oh,
that's old news. Yeah, but you haven't been here since
it happened. That's fun stuff, all right. When we come

(01:08:57):
back to the guy killed Fox Sports Radio Studios, we'll
get back to the phones at eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine, And I mentioned this. I want to
pay off this tease there was a high school player

(01:10:22):
Ernie the Great Opiner has a pretty good point coup.
He writes, you can't forget the Motor City. Me and
my Salt Mine crew would show up and we'd go
across the river and pick up Cowboy and Windsor as well.
We got a Cowboy and Windsor sighting last night on
the show. So you think you want to move the
Motor City up your depth chart of Big Ben affiliates

(01:10:42):
coop or Shall we wait a little bit before we
change the depth chart? Yeah, we gotta wait. I mean
there is that that winds are contingent, But I mean,
as far as I can't, I can't really think of
any callers that we have from Detroit. I mean, we
used to have a judgmental John, but he's he's disappeared, haven't.
We haven't heard from him in like a year or so,

(01:11:04):
So awesome Momentum's a big fan, he writes, I'll listen
to Jonas and Brian No, I like them. Plank being
in means no listening from me Garbage radio when he's involved,
to which I would reply, you're a Broncos fan, so
you would know something about garbage. I see that. This

(01:11:24):
is all right? Who finished second in the division? You
guys did, Bill Walsh? That's like though, that's like celebrating
a participation trophy. You know, what's the what's the saying
those that live in glasshouses something like that? Uh yeah, no,
don't get me wrong, we suck. But if you want

(01:11:45):
to celebrate beating a team that the officials obviously were
one sided against and could have beach with a two
point conversion had Shelby Harris not been given to you
by the Raiders, go ahead. I'm not bitter. Bill Walsh
is the California redwood of that. Coach Tree writes Dean
Andy Reid is one of the sturdy branches from that.
And I like this from Josh Gentz. He writes, ed

(01:12:07):
sounded one sober love the Seattle chapter of the Militia.
I thought it was a drop. I thought Roberto was
cooling with me. I'm just kidding, Coop, you know, um,
you know deep down inside, I'm a big, big Joe
Flacco fan. I hope he stays around forever with the Denver. Hey,
there was one story that broke today that we haven't

(01:12:30):
had an opportunity to get into yet, and we've spent
some time if you missed the first hour and a half,
we've spent some time talking in depth about the loss
of David Stern today and what he meant to the league.
There have been some that have said, ah, I'm not
as big as a fan. That's final. We'll read those
coming up a bit next hour. I want to get
into the quarterback movement that I think is on tap

(01:12:52):
for the National Football League this offseason, and we'll play
the guest who still has a job game in the
National Football League coming up later on in the show.
But according to a report this morning from the Washington Post,
the New England Patriots have apparently been cleared of wrongdoing

(01:13:13):
in the rather in depth debate about filming sidelines of
the Cincinnati are fielding the sidelines of the Cincinnati Bengals
and trying to steal signs. Mark mask of the Washington
Post reported this morning that while the investigation is winding down,
there has been nothing that shows the football operations staff

(01:13:36):
had any link to the video. If that remains the case,
the Patriots are likely to face a similar penalty to
ones imposed on other teams for game day and fractions
in recent years, which include fines dropping a draft pick
to a later position or stripping a draft pick. I

(01:13:57):
had forgotten about this. Maybe you guys sat. The last
penalty was given to the Falcons for playing fake crowd
noise during home games. According to the report from Mike Mask,
the investigation could wrap up as soon as this week,
but there's no word on when a final ruling would

(01:14:19):
come from the league office. I gotta be honest with you,
I wanted to be all over this story when it
first came out. I mean, listen, I am. I am
the biggest fan of just chaos whenever you're talking about
a situation involving the Patriots. But this isn't college. There's
not a lot signaled in in the National Football League.

(01:14:40):
I don't understand this because in the NFL, it's all
in the earpiece, it's all on the headset. It's all
basically communication between coach and player. I understand. Someone say,
how maybe they're trying to look at substitution patterns well
that you could get that, or personnel groupings, you can
get that. On you're all twenty two, that's not a
hard thing to figure out. NFL dot Com, buy yourself

(01:15:02):
a game pass, you can watch it all right there.
So as much as I want to find a reason
to pile on and say the Patriots once again or
trying to cheat their way to the top, this was
a really hard one to get behind because I just
don't know what you're gonna gain. I just don't know
what you're gonna gain by taping a sideline in the NFL.

(01:15:23):
Okay that that hurt coming out having to defend the Patriots,
But according to reports, no wrongdoing has been found. When
we come back to the guy called Fox Sports Radio Studios,
back to the phones, your calls. I'm Chris plank in

none of us did anything wild and crazy on New
Year's Eve. None of us woke up with a massive hangover.
Maybe for some of you you're just now recovering. Congratulations,
welcome to twenty twenty. I have spared you a twenty
nineteen recap or even a look back at the tens

(01:16:27):
on this show tonight. You're welcome. In the meantime, your
calls are lined up. Eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine six three six nine. Eugene
Hanging there, Ron Hanging I'm gonna get right to you, guys,
but I did want to pay off one tis here
real quick. And I know we've spent a lot of
time on the Cowboys coaching gig, and understandably so I
think it's I think it's the biggest story in sports.

(01:16:49):
Well maybe I should kind of whittle that down. I
think it's the biggest story in the NFL and kind
of even overshadowing the playoffs right now. But could there
be another candidate that has been talked about, but only
on kind of the peripheral on the outside, and that's
one Lincoln Riley. Today, in a story that probably only

(01:17:12):
made headlines in Norman, Oklahoma, which is where I live,
the Sooners lost the commitment of what's considered to be
the top prospect in the twenty twenty one recruiting class. Now,
don't get me wrong here, mallor Militia. I'm not trying
to talk recruiting on the Bidmaller show. That's not my point.
The point is that vander griff who's out of Georgia

(01:17:33):
d committed and what he had said about what would
lead to him decommitting. There's, of course what happens now
in the college football. In the high school ranks, it
was a note that they type out on their iPhone,
take screenshot of it, and tweeted, maybe put their little
signature on it as well too, to make it look
a little bit cooler. Sometimes will be a picture of them,
you know, in one of those posts at their locker room,

(01:17:55):
or they I'm fully committed or I'm dcommitted. Well, the
reason this has a little bit of an interest I
think to the NFL is because, according to reports, Vandergriff
had long said that if he caught wind that Lincoln
Riley was going to the NFL, he'd decommit and he
would go sign somewhere else. So naturally their response is

(01:18:17):
from those that cover college football, Oh my gosh, this
kid d commits. Lincoln Riley's going to the NFL. I
think there was even one of those click baitish websites
that threw out a picture of Lincoln Riley in Dallas
Cowboys garb. Yeah, the Draft network that laid out five
star quarterback Brock. Vandergriff has d committed from Oklahoma. He

(01:18:39):
previously told SI he'd d coommit from the Sooner as
if Lincoln Riley left for the NFL, and they did
an incredible photoshop job of Lincoln in a Cowboys sweatshirt. Listen,
I know that I'm probably too close to this sometimes,
and I get it that I covered. This is my beat,
this is my gig, this is what I do from

(01:19:01):
nine to five, if that even exists in life anymore.
But Lincoln Riley's not going to the Dallas Cowboys. Lincoln
Riley's not going to the NFL. Lincoln Riley staying at Oklahoma.
And I know that we're a week removed from not
the best performance for the Sooners, but things like this
are it happens in college football. Hey go figure a

(01:19:21):
kid has spent some time thinking about living hundreds of
miles away from home and maybe realizes that might not
be the best bet for me. Let me take some
time to look at other places. That doesn't automatically mean
that the place where he decided he wasn't going to
go anymore is going to lose their head coach, regardless
of what he said. So I think when we're looking

(01:19:42):
at Dallas Cowboy candidates, we're looking at three people right now.
I kind of buy the Josh McDaniel thing. I really do.
I think urban Meyer is a legit candidate for this
right now. And I know we had to call earlier
on Eric b Enemy. I don't know if the Cowboys
are are heading down that road yet, keep in mind,
they don't have a vacancy as we speak here. I

(01:20:04):
feel like I feel like we need to time check this.
Go local radio and one oh five Pacific time. But
the third candidate, and I think this might be the
most interesting one, is who Eddie brought up and that's
Mike Zimmer. So we'll see kind of how things play
out from Minnesota in their first round playoff game. But yeah,
I think there's a really good chance that that could
gain some momentum as time progresses. So don't get too

(01:20:26):
caught up in Lincoln. I don't think he's going anywhere.
I don't think a d commitment of a high school
kid is an indication that a dude is taking an
NFL job. All right, let's get to the phones eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
six three six nine. Eugene has been patiently waiting in
Minnesota to talk a little bit about Tom Brady. What's

(01:20:46):
going on? Eugene, Welcome to Fox Sports Radio. Thanks for
taking my call, mister Plank first off year. I just
wanted to say, I don't know what kind of Cowboys
topaganda podcast you're listening to, but just I know there's
a lot of crazy Cowboys fans out there, but I
just can't see any scenario where McDaniels and Brady both

(01:21:08):
choose to go to the Cowboys to meet up with
each other when they can both stay on New England.
McDaniels can have Bill Belichick handled the defensive side of
the ball, which he's one of the best ever at doing.
And clearly we've already seen the McDaniels head coaching experiments
didn't work out that great, So I don't know why
they wouldn't just stay in New England together. But I
think the point that Eddie brought up with Mike Zimmer

(01:21:31):
or maybe even Gary Kubiak, I think they're both more
likely candidates. But I think a lot of the rumors
surrounding Mike Zimmer possibly being let go of the Vikings
don't make a deep playoff run is actually generated from
an idiotic portion of the Vikings fan base that believes
we should fire this guy when I don't know if
they were asleep the past twenty years, when we've had

(01:21:53):
coaches like Mike Tys, Brad Childress, Leslie Fraser. But this
guy's clearly our best coach since Denny Greene. He's thirty
seven and one. As a coach, it's hard enough to
find a guy who can win in the NFL. People
complain he doesn't win big games, but I'd like to
see them give the same shot that they gave Jason
Garrett as long as he keeps winning and going to
the playoffs. You can't really fire a guy like that.

(01:22:14):
It says a lot that there's already teams waiting to
sign him. They're already he's at the top of the
Cowboys list. That should be a sign for the Vikings
that hey, maybe we should let this guy go if
there's other teams in the NFL waiting to scoop him up,
if we drop him. And I'll pose this to you
real quick before you jump off here, Eugene. But isn't
it usually a situation where the vocal minority ends up

(01:22:36):
kind of outroaring the silent minority because our majority. Excuse me,
because I just I don't see how anyone could look
at the job that Mike Zimmer did and think, oh,
we've got to move on. And I got to be honest,
I've seen it in very limited places. It's been in
very small circles. But the job that Mike Zimmer's done
in Minnesota is amazing. Yeah, Chris, I totally agree with you.

(01:22:59):
Most of these people that you see calling for him
to be fired our people on Twitter, and you know,
it's the same kind of thing as if you run
a hotel. The people who are going to leave your
reviews on Google. Aren't going to be the customers who
are happy. They're going to be the people who have
found a problem, the people who are okay with the
job that Mike Zimmer has done. Yeah, he's had a
good record. We've won what one playoff game, but we

(01:23:20):
haven't won a super Bowl yet, So we're not going
to be ecstatic on Twitter, you know, raving about how
he's the next Belichick. But those people that have a
problem with him are going to keep crying until something happens.
But I just don't understand how you can fire this
guy when he's putting together winning records and getting his
seat at the playoffs. I appreciate you phone calling your patients, Eugene,
good stuff. I think it what blows me away, Eddie.

(01:23:41):
And I'm not saying that Eddie came up with this,
because I'm not trying to throw you under the bus,
Bunny stretching the imagination. But you opened my eyes to it,
and there's been several different I guess you could say
thought processes out there with Mike Zimmer, Eddie. Does it
blow you away to know that Mike Zimmer has been
in Minnesota for six years or does that seem about
right to you? Yeah? I would have thought five, maybe

(01:24:03):
four or five. Yeah, that's a little bit surprising. I
gotta ask you, though, why is Lincoln Riley not taking
the Cowboys job because he's got a better job. He's
got a better job, He's got a great job. I
would not say it's a better job than being the
head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Why not. You don't
have to answer to an owner. You're making just as

(01:24:25):
much money. You get to pick your players, and you
play no fence, big twelve fans. You play in a
league where you're going to win every single year, and
it's not like your stock is going to drop any
Do you think Alabama? But he can always go back
to another great program in college if he wants to
after the Cowboys. I mean that opportunity doesn't come along

(01:24:48):
many times in your life to be the Cowboys head coach. Yeah. Uh,
I don't know, dude. I'll tell you what. Nick Saban
left LSU and then went to Alabama and is even
greater there than he was at LSU. I mean, if
Lincoln Riley goes to Dallas and it doesn't work out,

(01:25:08):
he can always go back to I mean, look, I
think the Oklahoma's job is a great job, but it's
not the Dallas Cowboys. Sorry, well, in your eyes, what
about in Lincoln Riley's eyes? I mean, in my eyes,
I think the Oakland Raiders job is the best job
in the National Football League, But my reality says it's
probably is Dallas is probably Pittsburgh because of the longevity

(01:25:30):
that they have for their guys. I think in the
eyes of certain people, I mean, Matt Rule thinks the
Giants job is better than anything else that's out there
right now. I mean, how crazy is maybe that thought process.
I'm telling you, a college job is better than an
NFL job if you have the right place. I firmly
believe that. I've all I would believe that other than

(01:25:53):
the Dallas Cowboys. So you can put the Cowboys in that.
I'm just saying, like, there's the Cowboys, there's the Yankees,
there's those those franchises are I mean, I look, I
don't like any of those teams, but those franchises are.
They're historic. If you're the manager of the head coach
of those teams and you have success there, I mean

(01:26:17):
that you're in an area that that most people can't touch,
you know what I mean. I just I just think
he's a young guy. And again, I don't know that
this opportunity would come again if if they want him,
and I would assume they would, I think he's nuts
to me. It doesn't take that job if they offered
it to him. Here's why I don't think he would,

(01:26:39):
and why it has a better job, because again, you've
got everything laid out in front of you from the
perspective of recruiting. He's got two young daughters, his wife's
immersed in the community. I know that's a cheesy thing
that college guys always says, Well, you know, he likes
a community. I'm with you, dude, Dallas is one of
the best jobs on the planet. I've sat here and
I've had to stand up for them the whole time.

(01:27:01):
But I just think there's certain guys dad are a
little better college coaches than they would be in the NFL,
and I don't know if he's ready for that step.
Nick Saban wasn't hell the dude went eight and eight
and decided to get out of Dodge. Steve Spurrier was it.
But you hit on one of the great issues with
any coach that is highly rethought of I almost said

(01:27:24):
of recruiting, highly thought of in the college ranks, and
is being talked about for an NFL gig. What can
they always do? They can always go back to the
college game. Rights, It's like someone leaving early for the
pros and the old school. What about your degree? You
can always go back and get your degree. You can
always do that. You can always go back to college.

(01:27:47):
Worked for Saban, kind of worked for Spurrier who went
back and took over what South Carolina worked for what
lou Holtz who went back and ended up doing incredible
things in Notre Dame. Can we say that it worked
for Chip l yet? I mean, people have okay yet.
But but again, that's one of the few times where
you look at a college guy. I mean, Butch Davis

(01:28:08):
is a fairly good example. But he just stayed out
of coaching for a while before you dove back in, Eddie.
That's the great concern that anyone that says, well, Mike
and even me arrogantly say it's got a better job.
He's not going anywhere. He can go somewhere else if
he fails in the NFL. If he goes to Dallas
or Cleveland, and we're talking about Lincoln Riley or I

(01:28:29):
don't know, maybe if you want to throw any other
college coach out there, Nick Saban, you want to go
to Carolina if you fail, I'm willing to bet if
things don't go right at Texas or UCLA or USC
or Tennessee. Eddie, you don't think they're gonna come knocking
on their door and give you an opportunity based on
your success in the collegiate game. You bet your ass

(01:28:51):
they are. You're right. That's the great kryptonite to anyone
that feels overly confident about their coach not going anywhere,
because they'll always have an opportunity to go back to
the college game. Always will totally agree. I just don't
think Dallas. I just don't think. I don't think that
Lincoln Riley views the Dallas Cowboys job as the end

(01:29:13):
all beal. I hope I'm right. I could be wrong,
but as it stands right now, I just don't think
he views it as well as Eddie Garcia does. And
for that I am grateful. Speaking of Oklahoma, real quick,
let's get Ron, who is in Kentucky in here. Then
we'll wrap it up on the phones, got takes, tweets
we need to get to as well. Ron Kentucky, Welcome
to Fox Sports Radio. Chris Flank. What's going on, buddy?

(01:29:36):
How are you doing this morning? I'm doing great? Ron?
How are you? Oh? Pretty good? Pretty good? Hey? I
was one. First of all, I heard you guys talking
a while ago about the Dallas Cowboys job and about
Lincoln Riley going over there. Why not? You know, nobody
wants to go to a team that you're going to
be controlled all the time, And nobody wants to go

(01:29:59):
to a team that every single time you turn around,
they're taking the spotlight or not giving you the spotlight,
not let you do the coaching job like you're you're
hired to do. Oklahoma already had a coach that went
over and tried that once. It didn't work out. So
in fair turn, why would Lincoln Riley want to go

(01:30:20):
over there and mess with all that? Like you said,
he's got a great job at Oklahoma right now. Why
would you want to mess with the chaos? Well, I
think I think to Eddie's point though, Ron, I think
it is still it's the Dallas Cowboys, you know, and
regardless of how you feel about Jerry Jones. You go
win in Dallas, you're set forever, you know, you really,

(01:30:40):
And I don't know if this is about being set.
The dude's going to be set forever coaching at Oklahoma,
but you just you've put yourself on a different level.
So I think there would still be that draw. And
I know this is another corny thing, but I think
he grew up at Dallas Cowboys fan two, so that
might add to it a little bit. But I'm a
firm believer that he's got a good job and that

(01:31:01):
with this situation, he's not going anywhere. Thanks for the call, Run,
I appreciate it. It's hard. I mean we're getting down
to a situation to where Eddie's point is the one
that has to scare the absolute you know what out
of you if you're a college fan in I don't
think Nick Saban's going to try the NFL waters again.
But I mean, even if he does, I mentioned Oklahoma,

(01:31:26):
I'm thinking of places where you want your coach right now.
If you're at a school where you don't want your coach,
you're like, yeah, you know what he needs to go.
I think the NFL would be great for him. It's
not like Arkansas fan back in the day, as if
he used to nut. But if you want your coach
to stick around, that's the thing that concerns you more
than anything else. Hey, you're young enough. Go dip your

(01:31:46):
toe in the NFL water, dip your toe in that pool,
see how it feels. And guess what if it doesn't
work out for you, the college game's still gonna be
there awaiting. It sucks because you've seen it happen over
and over and over and outside of what maybe Chip
Kelly and who knows where they are next year. I
mean there's a little bit of buzz building. Who knows.

(01:32:09):
I mean it's it's worked. It's worked to perfection for
these guys to get back on their feet. All Right,
we gotta break when we come back on the Ben
Maller Show, I've I've got to carve out a little
Raiders talk. I have to a little Broncos talk, a
little team's not in the playoffs. And there's another quarterback
controversy that is brewing this offseason, involving one of the

(01:32:29):
biggest names in the National Football League. We'll tell you
about it next on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Ben Maller Show weekdays at
two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio app. Many agree the Ben Maller Show
is more fun when you interact with us on Twitter.
It's like the wild West, two ordinating characters at a time,

(01:32:49):
debate the issues of the day with our community of knuckleheads,
and be part of the lunacy by following the man
in for Ben Maller on Twitter. That would be Chris Plank.
He is at Plank Show, and you can also tweet
at and follow our executive producer. He is maiming the phones.
He is the liar, liar and the menace of the
Fox Sports Radio network. It's the Coop de Loop Justin Cooper,

(01:33:09):
and he's at you, h bronco Fan. They're drafting of
Robert Nick condition and from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
In for Ben Maller, it's Chris Plank. I'm sorry, gents,
I'm in the middle of setting up my retirement to
break down the fourth wall here on the Ben Maller Show.

(01:33:30):
I don't know how it works with other fillins, but
Justin and I communicate Coop and I communicate on Facebook
when you call or different things he wants me to
get to and I don't get on Facebook very often.
In fact, because I have the oldest iPhone ever, I
had to take it off my phone, which has been
a great move because I don't see my aunt's post
about Trump and politics has been fantastic. But I'm in

(01:33:53):
the midst guys of hearing about the five hundred and
fifty thousand dollars cash back Facebook New Year Award. So
I'm in an intense Facebook messenger conversation right now with Danelle,
who's laying out how I can win five hundred and
fifty grand just for being on Facebook. Oh, the retirement
fund has already taken care of boys. I guess from

(01:34:14):
my perspective, it's It's always funny because I look at
the person who's been hacked and I feel bad for him,
and then I realize, what are you doing? You're communicating
with a robot right now. There's this person has no idea.
They were just as dumb as someone else who clicked
on a link and ends up having their entire account
overtaken because they just want to make a little money.
So sorry, guys if I seem distracted, but I'm getting

(01:34:36):
rich while the show rolls on. All right, so I'm
getting called out here by Larry, and it's a fair point, Eddie,
So you got to get me back on topic. Larry writes, Hey,
I heard that they might be playing a couple of
playoff games this weekend. Do you know anything about it?
Is one of those teams that Cowboys. I'm not sure.
Please elaborate if you have any information on this. Thanks.
I mean, that's that's a little bit of a backhanded shot.

(01:34:58):
I mean, maybe more or kind of straight up at it. Yeah,
the playoffs are going on this weekend, but there's no
offense to our Houston affiliates. Love y'all. J J. Watt's back.
But there's a reason why every time you're in the playoffs,
you're in the first game, right, I mean, like it is,
and most people are trying to in the Patriots run.

(01:35:23):
But I mean we're counting on Ryan Tannehill here, and
I've kind of been down this road before and I
like Ryan Tannehill, but in the end, he's still Ryan Tannehill.
I mean, the Saints are playing, but we expect them
to roll. I mean, I'm with you. I would love
to be able to get into the matchups here. But Eddie,
is there truly a belief that the Titans. Do you

(01:35:45):
truly believe the Titans can pull this off and in
the Patriots on Saturday Night? I do, Yeah, I absolutely do.
I will not be surprised at all if Tennessee goes
in there and beats New England. I mean, you need
to quit listening to Clay Travis. That man wanted everyone
fired after Week four of the season. Come on, Chris.

(01:36:06):
The Patriots had a very important game at home in
late December against the Dolphins and didn't get the job done.
If that doesn't give you pause, I don't know what would.
I mean. That was not a game where they weren't
playing for something they wanted that first round by and
they were not holding anything back for the next week,

(01:36:28):
and they just flat out did not get it done.
So look, I'm not gonna say that I'm guaranteeing a
Tennessee win, but I will not be surprised if the
Titans go in there and win the game. The Titans
had everything laid out in front of them in two
of their last three games and blew it. Against the Texans.

(01:36:48):
Once got smoked after spotting the Saints a fourteen oh lead,
and then it took him three quarters to finally come
to life and beat the Texans second stringers. I'm with
you on the Patriots being very very human in twenty nineteen,
twenty twenty, if you will, But is it wrong of
me to after layout that outside of having to play

(01:37:09):
on wildcard weekend? Haven't we been down this road of
ending the Patriots before? I mean, this is they've never
looked like this. They have never looked this bad. Now
they've had they've stubbed their toe a few times in
the regular season, but this time of year they're always
playing Patriot football, and that's not what they did this
past weekend. I think you guys are under selling just

(01:37:31):
how good the Dolphins were this year, Eddie. Don't let
your hopes get up. That's a really good football team.
That's so good. Yeah, I mean this is the leading Russia.
Do you know? I go go ahead. Also, the Titans
were playing without their MVP in that game against the Saints,

(01:37:51):
oh Derrick Henry. Yeah, true, true, but they still jumped
up fourteen zip on him. Man. I just I'm not
big believer in the Titans, and I probably should be.
And I saw them kick the absolute s out of
the Raiders whenever they had the opportunity. But I think
any other team in the AFC I might have a
different feeling about this. I'm hopeful. There's nothing I would

(01:38:15):
love more than to be able to sit here and
finally say it's over right, Because Eddie, if there's one
thing we agree on, I think if the Patriots lose,
this is it right. I mean, we're done with this talk.
It's either the Chiefs are the Ravens who are taking
that next step, and it might be anyway, but once

(01:38:37):
they're done in this twenty playoff run, it's it's over right.
Well what does that mean? What is it's over them
being a dynasty? Yes, but they still play in the
AIPCY East. I still think they're better than Buffalo, so
there's still probably a playoff team. I mean, I don't
know what's gonna happen with Tom Brady that I'm so

(01:38:57):
fascinated to see if if Robert Kraft has the balls
to let Bill Belichick do what he's always done, and
that's get rid of a guy a year too early
than a year too late, and maybe it's not even
a year too early. Maybe it's the right time. And
to see Tom Brady in another uniform that would be insane.
I'm very fascinated to see how this works out. When

(01:39:18):
we come back to the guy called Fox Sports Radio Studios,
I want to go in depth on kind of that
quarterbacking future. But I am absolutely fascinated by what happens
next for New England because I don't think they're gonna
lose the Titans, but I don't think they're going to
get past the Ravens or the Chiefs. I just I
think Baltimore is on another level right now, and Kansas

(01:39:40):
City has kind of played around for the early part
of the season. They dealt with the Mahomes injury, and
now I think they've found another level. But for me,
I want it to end more than anyone else. I
just I gotta believe more in Tanney Hill. I guess
I gotta get on your guys level of belief in
Derek Henry because I think New England, what Bill Belichick

(01:40:01):
typically does well is take away your best weapon, and
I think if you take away Derrick Henry, as Coop
eloquently laid out, you see how human the Tennessee Titans
can become. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
Fox Sports Radio dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app.
Search f SR to listen live. We've got to find

(01:40:24):
some time to talk about the future of the Las
Vegas Raiders Coop with I think Coop. The Denver Broncos
are going to become a very popular kind of almost
browns like pick in this offseason. I don't know if
people will be elevating them to Super Bowl, but you
gotta love what you saw from Drew Locke. So we'll
get to that coming up in just a bit. And Eddie,
we have we have to have conversations about the future

(01:40:46):
of Ben Roethlisberger. We have to do it. My man
is saying that he's ready. Kind of looked like me
when I took a few days off, just packed it on.
But I'm gonna believe. I mean, I will say it
was the Sunday Night game a few weeks ago. Was that,
I say a few everything's a few weeks ago in

(01:41:07):
my book, was that the Bills game where I think
they set a record for cutaways of one individual to
Ben Roethlisberger on the sideline. Yeah, it had to be
the Bills game, right, that was Sunday night. Yeah, Hey,
guess what, Ben Roethlisberger is hurt and he's standing on
the sidelines. We're gonna show you eight thousand times in
the final two minutes of the game. And the news
about Mason Rudolph was kind of fascinating as well too,

(01:41:28):
with how serious his injury is. But we're talking about
the playoff matchups this weekend, going a little bit more
in depth. I digged at you guys, so, Coop, are
you in on the Titans then pulling this off on Saturday? Yeah?
I need that belief. I don't have this belief in
the Titans. I like Derrick Henry leading rusher. I don't

(01:41:50):
mind Tannehill except that you know we've seen him fail before.
I guess, am I giving the Patriots too much cred
for what they've done in the past? Am I looking
past their warts? Yeah? I know that. I know that
they lost last week to the really, really bad Miami
Dolphins who couldn't even tank correctly. But Eddie, am I

(01:42:11):
crazy when I look and say they still finished twelve
and four? You know, and it wasn't good enough to
get that first round by which is wild to think
where Kansas City is based on where they were a
few weeks ago. But am I buying too much into
the mystique of the New England Patriots right now? You
think Eddie probably a little bit, But it's hard to
blame you and even Tom Brady. I mean, it's not

(01:42:31):
like we're talking about how he's He's got twenty four
touchdowns and eighty interceptions, he's thrown over four thousand yards,
and we're talking like he's garbage, you know. But there
Their standards are their standards. I'm talking about it sound
like Mike Tomla right now'm talking about the standard. Yeah,
but uh no, I mean we look at the Patriots
through a different lens than we look at most teams,
and right now they look very mortal. I will say

(01:42:53):
that they're not bad, but they're not otherworldly like they
have been. It's a it's an eight o'clock East time
kick on Saturday night. That's the CBS game. And based
on my last check of the weather, which was last night,
there's an eighty percent chance of rain on Saturday night,
So maybe that benefits a team that's just gonna give

(01:43:14):
the football to one dude and let them try to
run over you, like Tennessee with Derrick Henry that early game.
Haven't spent much time on it. Houston and Buffalo. I'm
a big believer in Buffalo's defense. I kind of like
what Bill O'Brien's done throughout the season in finding places
where they needed help and going out and trying to
get difference makers. What do they need? They needed a

(01:43:36):
left tackle, they needed an offensive line to protect the
Shawn Watson. What they do They win got Laramie Tunzel,
who is a franchise left tackle. Did they have to
give up a couple first round picks for him? Sure?
But in what you get in tons All, you'll probably
have a better prospect than anything you could get at
that pot at that spot in the draft. They traded
for Gary on Connley because they like to watch their
cornerbacks get burned. I guess still. Four thirty Saturday afternoon,

(01:44:00):
Buffalo and Houston. A Robert tell you, is it wrong
of me that I'm so bitter about Gary on Conley
that I can't move past the fact that we picked
him in the first look, even get Rump up talking
about him first round pick and you get a third
round pick for him. Ah. Now, the Saturday matchup I
find fascinating, or excie me. The Sunday matchup I find fascinating.

(01:44:22):
The afternoon game Seattle at Philadelphia. I just Seattle was
an inch away, an inch away from not playing in
this game, had had their tight and been able to
just move the football, maybe a Scoche Moore or I
guess we could go a little bit more in depth,

(01:44:42):
a really bad delay of game penalty away from not
playing in this game. But and again, I can't sit
here and pretend to have watched every game from start
to finish of the Seattle Seahawks this year. But Eddie,
I think they've been one of the harder teams to
figure out all season long, because there's there's moments like

(01:45:03):
the Sunday night car crash, like the way they fall
behind San Francisco where they battle back and you think,
all right, it's a really good football team. Maybe the
way that they beat Minnesota and Philadelphia and back to
back weeks, even when they went on the road to
San Francisco, that's a little bit skewed because the Niners
had that field call that the dude chanked into the tunnel.
But there's been some games this year where you watch Seattle,

(01:45:24):
you're like, man, they might be really good. Yeah, and
they're real and they're really good on the road, right this,
which is weird because they've been so good at home
over the years. But I mean, Philadelphia, they'll give them
all they've got by today, it's not much. They're so
banged up. I will be very surprised if Seattle does
not win that game. As a matter of fact, I

(01:45:46):
think other than the Saints, and of course they always
find interesting ways to lose at home, but I wouldn't
be surprised if all the road teams won except for
except for Minnesota. Yeah, Minnesota is a big time uphill climb.
I think it's New Orleans, you know, we're It's kind
of interesting how we view certain teams that are playing
on the opening weekend. Right we look at New England

(01:46:07):
and we say, older roster, missed opportunity, had everything laid
out in front of them. What a disaster. At least
in some of the narrative I hear out of New
Orleans or New Orleans, whichever way you want to go with.
I guess but the buzz I hear is they're pissed.
You know, It's like, gosh, we had an incredible regular

(01:46:30):
season and we're still in this position. Let's go out
and show everybody. I mean, they still get a home game, right,
Obviously they don't get that second round home game, but
they still get a home game and they're playing against
a Minnesota team that I mean they should beat and
to take that momentum on to wherever they would end
up next week. I guess they're most likely matchup next

(01:46:50):
week would be what Green Bay in Green Bay based
on being a little bit of a higher seed, So
if they win, they'll be going to Green Bay regardless
of what happens in the other game. Yeah. I kind
of like New Orleans a lot. In fact, I think
New Orleans is gonna go to Green Bay. I think
they're gonna beat the Packers, and I listen, I'm a
sucker for the Saints because I had like two of

(01:47:12):
their guys on my fantasy teams, so I watched way
too much of them. But I think I think the
part of New Orleans that we forget about and maybe
doesn't get the respect from just the fringe fans is
how good their defense truly is. And the job that
Dennis Allen another one that pains me to come out, Roberto,
the job that Dennis Allen has done with this defense.

(01:47:33):
And I know that. You know, you might look at
say the Niners game four weeks ago and say, but
they gave up. They gave up forty eight points. Yeah,
that's that's really the anomaly for this defense this season.
When they've been called upon to step up, they have
in a big way. And I mean, I'm just I
think this, barring an injury to say Drew Brees, and

(01:47:55):
even if Drew Brees gets hurt, we saw Teddy Bridgewater
can get it done aarring Alvin Kamara's injury being a
little bit more severe than as being led on. I
think the Saints are the one team this weekend that
I look at playing and think I think they could
go to the super Bowl. I don't think, again, all
this defending that I've had to do of New England,

(01:48:18):
I don't think there is super Bowl team. I just
have a hard time counting them out because I feel
like we've been here before. But do you think the
winner of the Seahawks and the Eagles, you think they
can go beat San Francisco. I don't think so, even
though it's happened with Philadelphia already this year. Do you
think the Titans of the Patriots can move on? Or
are the Bills and the Texans. Yeah, they've got a

(01:48:39):
couple of really good defensive football teams. But with the
way Kansas City and Baltimore has been playing, I don't
think so. You look at that first weekend and I
think the Saints are the team that have a great
opportunity to come out of wild card weekend and end
up making it to the super Bowl. We'll continue to
debate and discuss this as the show rolls on, But
when we come back to the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios,
sive into a little bit of the quarterback cares sell,

(01:49:00):
Who's going, where, when and why? Next, it's The Ben
Maller Show. I'm Chris Plank sitting in on Fox Sports Radio.

In for Ben Maller, It's Chris Plank. Thanks Eddie. Next
Hour will play the game that nobody in sports radio plays,
called buyer sell. That's where I throw out a topic
based on our teams. Eddie, Coop and Riverito will buyer

(01:49:43):
sell it. Nobody does. It's unique to anything else in
sports radio. Can't wait for you guys to hear it. Meantime,
good stuff on Twitter, Larry brought up a great point,
don't forget the same. So the Vikings payback for the
Minneapolis miracle from two years ago. You know, it's kind
of funny because that's that's been down played quite a bit,
and I know Mike Zimmer didn't want to get into it.

(01:50:05):
I think Sean Payton kind of steered clear of it
a little bit. But you couldn't ask for two more
heartbreaking ways over the last two seasons for a team's
year to come to an end. Then what New Orleans
is dealt with. I have a buddy of mine get this.
I have a buddy of mine, Gabe Eicher, as an
offensive lineman. We do a big twelve radio together. And Eddie,

(01:50:27):
that was his final NFL game. He was a member
of the Saints practice squad and his final game before
he retired and decided to get skinny and join the
media was a Minneapolis miracle who and he was a Saint.
I know it's not necessarily a big name, but could
you imagine that being your last game that you play,
watching the opponents score on a miraculous play to end things.

(01:50:49):
But here we are and two years later, it's an
absolute It's it's just it's an absolute wild thought when
you look at out things have ended for his New
Orleans last few years. So you have to ask yourself,
do they continue to get better from that? Do they
get stronger from it? Or is it something in the
back of their head that if things get tight late,
they know something's going to happen. I know I cursed him.

(01:51:11):
I said, I think they can go to the super Bowl.
I think of the Well, here's a question for you, guys, Eddie.
I'll start with you. Of the eight teams that are
in action, I mean, if we're ranking one through four,
Which teams we think have a chance to end up
playing on Super Bowl Sunday. I mean the Saints are one, right,
I mean I'm not really getting too crazy or carried
away here with a prediction, am I? You mean if

(01:51:34):
I were ranking them, might have them ranked number one
of the team I probably should have made this a
little bit clear. Of the teams that are playing this week, Okay,
you have the chance to go to the Super Bowl,
they have the best chance essentially. Yeah. Yeah, of the
team's playing this weekend, yes, they would be the number
one team, the number one pick. Would you would you
go as far as putting someone over in New England
at number two? Probably Seattle? Probably Seattle Seattles. Again, like

(01:52:03):
I said last segment, just an incredibly hard team to
figure out this year where they've been really good on
the road, but yet for the most part, it's just
it's been a tough team to figure out, tough team
to figure out, outside of the fact that they've dealt
with injuries as well too so. But they won't they
won't have any home games the rest of the way, Right,
this is true, Eddie? Most likely? Most likely? I mean,
I guess if the Vikings pull the upset, I guess

(01:52:24):
they would host. Yeah, if the Vikings win their next
two games, the NFC Championship came would be in Seattle, Man.
Every time I feel like I want to dive into
this quarterback conversation, we're running out of time, but maybe
maybe I'll table it till next hour because and I
try to get into it last night and we ran
out of time because I spent too much time venting
about things I hate about New Year's Eve, like tuxedos.

(01:52:46):
Who wears tuxedos? Um? But as you go up and
down kind of the NFL standings, if you will, and
you start looking at rosters, you're looking at I don't know,
maybe around eleven teams that could be looking to do
something with the quarterback position in twenty twenty. And when

(01:53:07):
I say something, I don't necessarily mean a massive change,
but at least making a move to where you bring
in the next guy, and maybe in half of those
twenty it is a major change. I mean, I love
the fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick led Miami to that win
to knock New England out of a buy, But I

(01:53:30):
think Miami is going to be looking for their next quarterback, right, Eddie.
I can't wait to hear what you think about Pittsburgh
coming up next hour and what the Steelers might do.
But Cincinnati's gonna hold the number one pick in the draft.
I saw what I think was the best collegiate quarterback
performance I've ever seen in my life last week. Joe
Burrow there, Jacksonville, the Chargers, the Raiders, the Cowboys. I

(01:53:50):
know the Chicago Bears have come out in support of
Mitch Trubisky, but you don't think they want someone to
generate some competition there. Bruce arians has been outspoken about Tampa.
What is care line of doing? Oh? What is next
to New England? Let's dive into that coming up next
hour in depth. As we wrap up and head down
the home strategy, the Ben Mallers Show with you right

My last night, Let's see tomorrow's Thursday Night in a Friday,

(01:54:34):
I think we'll get no back tonight and Jonas in
his weekend shift after that. But if I'm not mistaken,
Roberto coop Eddie, correct me if I'm wrong. But Big
Ben is back on Monday. Correct, correct, correct, correct, Look out,
oh big fan in Philly, Rob who writes terrible filling
for Ben tonight. So much Dallas talk you think it

(01:54:56):
is the biggest story in the NFL, because that's all
you talked about tonight. Dallas sucks and it's not the
best coaching job in the NFL. I find it shocking
that somebody with the handle Philly Rob would think that
Dallas sucks. I mean, I am blown away right now,
but I agree Dallas does stink, but I disagree with

(01:55:19):
it's the best coaching job in the NFL. It's open
right now. I think we could have a debate, though,
I really do. And this is gonna come out of
left field. But with the talent in Cleveland, if you
can get Baker right or or let's say you decide
that the roster is there and you need a different quarterback,

(01:55:40):
maybe maybe you go. Josh McDaniel's very much in play
for Cleveland, reportedly, but he can't interview this week because
what the Patriots couldn't beat the Dolphins. So if you
find a guy that's a fan of Baker, then maybe
you've got a great opportunity to fix him, if not
move on from him. We're gonna get into these quarterbacks.

(01:56:00):
But could a case be made from a talent perspective
that the best vacancy might be Cleveland. I don't steer
your car back on the road. All we hear is
about how it's a dumpster fire and how horrible it is.
And trust me, it is a disaster to go back
to Paul de Podesta as your general manager, which appears

(01:56:22):
to be the case. But but remember, Elliot Wolf is
still in that building. Alonzo Highsmith is still in that building.
Just because John Dorsey's gone doesn't mean that there's not
really sharp football mine still there, and Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry,
some of the talent they brought in. Defensively, they need
to shore up their offensive line a bit. But I'm

(01:56:44):
here to tell you right now, I don't know if
that's as atrocious as some people think. But then again,
it gets back to how you feel about Baker. I mean,
if you're if you're any of the hosts on this network,
he's the worst thing that's ever happened to the NFL.
But I mean he's also a guy that everyone was
losing their minds about after his first year, kind of

(01:57:06):
like we saw times with Daniel Jones. I said this
last night. I don't know if we lose our minds
quicker about a position in sports, then we do a
quarterback in the NFL. I mean, Daniel Jones was Danny
Dimes for two weeks and then reality set it. We
all had minshew Mania and then reality set it. You know,

(01:57:27):
it's give NFL teams some time and some tape and
they're gonna figure guys out. And the gosh cheesy phrase,
the cream rises to the top, the elite separate themselves,
and the pretty good just they're pretty good and their
backups for their career unless they play for the Raiders.
So I'm just I'm not here to try to jump

(01:57:47):
in support of Baker on back to back nights. I'm
just here to tell you I think Cleveland could be
considered one of the better, if not the best job
right now that's open in the National Football League. Dallas
not open yet. We'll see what happens with Jason Garrett
as they have their third meeting today and yes, Philly, Rob,
we talked about it a lot. I mean, I've got

(01:58:10):
to google up the eighty six new players it seemed
to be playing every week for Philadelphia. So I can
truly give you a perspective on that Eagles matchup. But
as far as the playoffs are concerned, who do we
feel good about making a run this weekend? Yeah, the Saints,
So it kind of loses its interest. And to be
honest with you, to me, wild card weekend is more

(01:58:30):
about the reaction than the build up. The build up
to me is champion is next weekend, the divisional round
and then the conference championship. That's where you have the
debates about position groups, view position groups, quarterback, the quarterback,
coach v coach This weekend, I mean, we're talking about
some teams that just kind of slid into the playoffs.
With that in mind, With that in mind, Eddie Garcia,

(01:58:52):
I have to ask, I know, the frustration over missing
the playoffs to the last couple of years is palpable.
I get it, I under standard, But when I put
together my list of teams that could be, for lack
of a more professional term, doing something at the quarterback
position this offseason. I got Pittsburgh pretty high on this list. Now,

(01:59:15):
with that in mind, I know Ben Roethlisberger has a
team friendly contract over the next couple of years. But
do you see Pittsburgh being active in the quarterback market
this offseason? Um? I don't because they're almost never active
in bringing in players, especially offensive skill players. They just

(01:59:38):
don't do it. They are a team that builds through
the draft most of the time. Now, they did do
the Meeka Fitzpatrick trade, which was something that they rarely do.
It was pretty surprising when they did it, and it
certainly worked out. But I think that they are being
optimistic and hopeful that Ben will be ready to go

(02:00:01):
at the start of the regular season. I'm not sure
if that's going to be the case or not. I
think at some point early in the season he should
be ready to go, but I'm wondering how much is
he how much work is going to get in the
preseason after having basically a full season off. So I'm
I would I would say I'm not real confident that

(02:00:22):
he's just going to step in and be, you know,
the big band we've seen the last couple of years
and pick up right where you left off. You know,
for me, I'm intrigued to seek kind of how quickly
he recovers. But I mean you are, as you mentioned,
you made the move with Meca Fitzpatrick, which I think

(02:00:43):
sold a lot of people that they were all in
for this year and it didn't work out, unfortunately. But
I don't I don't know if you discovered your next
quarterback in either Mason Rudolph or Duck Hodges. To you,
I mean, Rudolph looked good at times, but my man
will kill you. Yeah, I totally agree that there were

(02:01:04):
I thought, you know, looking at the silver lining of
the whole situation, well, at least we're going to find
out if Mason Rudolph is a guy that we think
in a couple of years will be ready to take over.
And that question was not answered. Now, part of it
was due to injury, but part of it was also
due to performance. He didn't really get a lot better

(02:01:25):
unfortunately when he did came in in relief of Hodges
there and then he got hurt again. But he looked
great until he got hurt again. So it was a
little bit of a tease. But I would say, if
you're asking me, Do I think that Mason Rudolph is
going to be the air apparent? My answer would be no.
It's funny too, because it's it's interesting. There's a lot

(02:01:45):
of people that make you get fallen in love with
the quarterback position. You see a couple good performances from
Mason Rudolph and you say things like, there's their next quarterback.
You need a little bit of a larger sample size
is what you need more than anything else. And I
think you've got a large enough sample sites with Mason
Rudolph to realize he's not what's next. So Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh

(02:02:08):
is one of those teams that I find very interesting
on the kind of quarterback search list for this offseason now, Roberto,
I put the Raiders on here as well too, And
I know this is kind of a hard one for
you and I to parse through. But is Derek Carr
making the move with the team to Vegas um right now?

(02:02:33):
I say yes, because there's probably not a better alternative.
I mean, unless they get somebody like Cam Newan. Well,
I'm not really big on Cam, but at this point
I'm tired of Derek Carr. Is that a Is that
the frustration level from fourth down throwaways or it's third

(02:02:58):
and five thros a two yard pass. Come on, man,
By the way, Coop, I realize I'm on the air.
I just screwed up whenever I was saying that, I
think either Noah's on Tomorrow night or Jonas? Holy s man,
do you think I'm that dumb? Seriously, we're having we're

(02:03:20):
having a Facebook conversation right now where a Coop takes
me like, what are you talking about? It you tonight? Yeah, Noss,
it's me tonight. I understand that. Are you sure that's
what she said? All I said is I think it's
no Tomorrow night or tonight and whatever date is it
all runs together. Do you not think I knew if
I thought, I swore you said, I think it's Brian
no in tonight and then Jonas to end the week. Well,

(02:03:43):
technically it could be tonight because it's four in the
morning on the Central time zone. All right, all right,
So anyway, my point is that we don't have to
talk to Coop about a quarterback position because you're set right,
I mean, you're in a situation right now. The conversation
can be had. And it pains me to say it
that when you look at the AFC West, just specifically

(02:04:05):
the AFC West, they might have the second best situation
coming back in twenty twenty in Denver right now, based
on the way they played down the stretch, right Coop,
Oh yeah, I would. I would say that's uh a
pretty safe assumption. I wouldn't say, you know, oh, we're
we're set at quarterback. You know, we we you know,

(02:04:26):
La found him. It's you know, the monkey's off his back.
He's got his quarterback. Uh. You know, I'm not ready
to say that yet. I'm optimistic. I like what I
see from him, you know, I can you know, break
it down into specifics, you know. I like that he's
always stepping into his throws. He's you know, he doesn't
look timid in the pocket. He can he can get

(02:04:47):
out and move around in the pocket, unlike you know,
the statue that was Joe Flacco. Uh so there's things
to be excited about. Um, I've I've watched him, you know,
thread the needle a couple of times, and that's excite.
But I'm not you know, one hundred percent sold that
he can read defenses and uh, you know, I know

(02:05:09):
he's got the whole buzz Lightyear thing with the reading
the plays on his risk, But is that can he
can he not grasp a playbook? I mean, I don't
know if it's if that's a fair criticism, but it's
just things that are going through my head. No, I
don't blame you either. His dance moves are pretty sweet, though,
I will add that. You know, it's interesting there's teams
that we came into twenty nineteen thinking that they weren't

(02:05:30):
going to solve their quarterback situation, and maybe a place
like Denver they did. I know, I know Big Ben
tends to be less than a believer in Kyler Murray,
Is that a fair way to put it? COO's less
than a believer? And what did he call him? Alligator arms?
But you had Arizona answer their quarterback question. If it's

(02:05:51):
long term, we'll see. But here's three that are standing
out to me. And then we'll get a time out,
we'll come out, we'll play by our cell and I'll
get out of your hair for a Wednesday night into
a Thursday morning. What about New England, Eddie, I mean,
we've talked enough about the Patriots. Tonight the playoff matchup
against Tennessee. You guys all in on Tennessee right now
to potentially pull this off. I'm a little bit more hesitant,

(02:06:13):
but I am very intrigued by something that I was
very anti Early in the regular season. I thought, all
of the oh my gosh, Tom Brady's house is up
for sale or he's thinking about moving and he hasn't
signed an extension. I didn't really buy into it too
terribly much. As the season progressed and as he had
his skills erode, I kind of started to maybe believe

(02:06:35):
a little bit more that this could be it in
New England. I just don't know who would then be
next for the Patriots. So with that in mind, are
we watching ended times if you will, with Tom Brady
and a Patriot uniform? Or does Robert Kraft jump in
and saying, no, no, he's our quarterback. We're going to
do whatever it takes to keep him around. Yeah, that's
what I said earlier. I am so fascinating so to

(02:06:56):
see how this will turn out, because, as I said,
Bill Belichick, and and he's almost always right by the way,
he will get rid of a player a year too
early rather than a year too late. But Tom Brady
is not just any player. He's the player for that
franchise and one of the greatest of all time. And

(02:07:17):
I gotta believe that his relationship with Robert Kraft is
as close as any player owner relationship you know in
the NFL at least. Will Robert Kraft give Bill Belichick
the okay to look somewhere else? I mean, that's I
just I don't know. I don't know the answer to that.

(02:07:38):
I can't wait to find out. It's fascinating. I have
the hardest time because again, there's that almost nostalgic feel
that I have to where I say, but it's Tom Brady,
but it's the New England Patriots. You know, it's there's
no way he's ever gonna play for anyone else, right,
And then you kind of start digging into it a
little bit and you realize they haven't been in this

(02:07:58):
position before, and in a while, I guess I should say,
and they haven't been in this position before as a team,
And they haven't been in this position before with Tom
Brady to where he's playing without an option for next season.
It's wide ope. So New England fascinates me. Here's another one,
and maybe this isn't as high on everyone's radar, But
I'm fascinated by Tampa Bay this offseason and what they

(02:08:19):
decide to do with Jamis Winston, especially after Bruce arians
dropped this with another quarterback, Oh yeah, we can win
with this one. We can win. We can definitely win
with another one too, because we're going to have a defense.
And again, I understand with Jamis there's the good with
the bad. What was the the twitter joke that went around?
Jamis is like that Disneyland dad to where he makes

(02:08:41):
you so mad when he's not around, But oh when
he's around, it's trips to Disney World and it's ice
cream and it's pizza. It's the greatest thing ever. But
I mean, if Tampa decides to move on with that defense,
they could catapult themselves into playoff position. I can speak
with the proper mood, and then you know, what's the
future look like for a guy like Jamis Winston? Has

(02:09:02):
he valued commodity? If you're looking at a team like
I don't know, everything seems to go back to either
the Chargers or the Raiders for me right now. But
if you're looking at a place like La or Vegas,
I mean, is that a guy you bring in He's
not going to be cheap and how much of your
salary cap are you going to actually commit to the
quarterback position? And then the third team that I'm fascinated

(02:09:23):
by and Eddie, this one's kind of near and dear
to your heart. How's Karen feeling about the future of
one Philip Rivers right now and what that looks like
with the big move into what is it Sofi Stadium
and kind of how that plays out. I mean, have
we seen the end game, if you will, for Philip
Rivers as the Chargers quarterback? Yeah? Karen. By the way,

(02:09:44):
my wife, for people who don't know, is over twenty
year charges tirct holder and Philip Rivers is our all
time favorite players. So she's having a tough time with
the thought of him playing for another team. But it
I mean, if you saw the press conference, I think
I don't I don't know what they're going to do
when they get together and talk, if the decision has

(02:10:05):
already been made, or if they want to find out
what he's thinking and he wants to find out what
they're offering, and clearly he wants to play more, and
clearly he has, at least in his own mind, come
to the realization that it could very well be over
with the Chargers, and he's ready for that to happen
if that's the possibility. So I don't know. It's tough

(02:10:26):
because you know, they're moving into a new stadium and
their situation here in LA is difficult because they're trying
to grow a fan base and if you to grow
a fan base in LA, like most places, you have
to be successful or no one's going to pay attention. So,
you know, you look at the Clippers. They've been such
a redheaded step child in this city for so long,

(02:10:47):
but now they've got some good players and they're winning,
and so now people are paying attention. But you know,
I think the same thing would happen with the Chargers
if they had some prolonged success. But you know, you
gotta figure out your quarterback position before you can even
think about that stuff. Doing it with so many guys,
it might be one of the best drops of all time.

(02:11:08):
The problem so many guys. If it's not with the Chargers,
that's such a gruting guy to try to go out
and bring in. But I think he's still a starter.
I mean, maybe I'm crazy. I know this stat line
wasn't what it typically is, and oh, he had some
bad turnovers this year, but I think you can do
a lot worse in this league than Philip Rivers. Here's

(02:11:30):
some other teams outside of the squads that we talked
about that I'm intrigued by what they do with the
quarterback position this offseason. I'll quickly get to this. We'll
play by our seldom, We'll get out of here. Miami.
I know they went out and got Josh Rosen. I
don't know where Josh Rosen figures into this argument, especially
since he lost his job to Ryan Fitzpatrick. We talked
about Pittsburgh with Eddie and kind of what might be

(02:11:50):
next there. Cincinnati's gonna pick number one. They'll take Joe Burrow.
I think he's gonna be a fantastic NFL quarterback. What
about Jacksonville huge investment in Nick Foles this office season.
He couldn't stay healthy. Then when he played, he wasn't good.
And Gardner Minshew, though he had a nice couple of
weeks near the end of the season, really proved to
be what we thought he was going to be, which

(02:12:11):
was a fifth round pick out of Washington State, So
I don't know what the Jaguars future looks like. Roberto
and I talked about the Raiders a bit. I think
Derek Carr will make the move to from Oakland to
Las Vegas. But I do think the Raiders are going
to draft his heir apparent or maybe make a move
for an underpriced free agent to try to give a
little bit of competition. We haven't talked about Dallas yet

(02:12:32):
and what might be next to the quarterback position for them.
I know we've talked a lot about their coaching vacancy
and what could end up there, But do you commit
long term to Dak Prescott? What about Chicago? I know
what they're saying now, Mitch Drubisky is our quarterback. But
this was the same crew that told me Mike Glennon
was their quarterback before they traded up to take Trubisky
number two. I think that's a damn good roster. I

(02:12:54):
think they have an awful quarterback. And then throw Caroline
into this mix. I mean, Kyle Kyle Allen guys is
another one of those players that falls into our three
week and we're in love mindsets where oh my gosh,
Kyle Allen how could he slip through the cracks? And
then of course there is that draft expert out there

(02:13:16):
that on Twitter goes, well, here was my scouting breakdown,
and I was really high on Kyle Allen. What ends
up happening? He gets pinched and you find out that
the guy you drafted in the third round or fourth
round and Will Greer might be worse. Oh yeah, meanwhile,
you got a pretty team friendly contract for Cam Newton
over the next couple of years. But has that ship sail?

(02:13:36):
Is it about finding a head coach who can fix him,
our finding a head coach who can move on from him.
I know Philly rob I know diehard fans of teams
that are in the playoffs. You don't want to hear
about this right now, but it's one of the fascinating
offseason topics that I think starts to get its legs
here this week and based on what happens in the
first round of the playoffs. All right, we got a

(02:13:56):
break when we come back to the guy called Fox
Sports Radio studios were going all in on buy or sell.
This is where I threw out a topic. The crew
will decide whether or not they're buying or selling it.
It takes a lot of explanation, and I hope everyone's
on board. We're brought to you tonight by Discover Card.

(02:15:01):
Radio Studios in for Ben Maller. It's Chris Blank. Thanks Eddie.
Great news. There's a quick and easy way you could
save money. Switched to Geico. It only takes fifteen minutes
to see if you could say fifteen percent or more
on car insurance. Go to Geico dot com and see
how much you could say. Got your best tweets of
the night coming up. Also, Cowboy from Windsor is hanging there.
We'll get to him. Wait what am I saying? He's

(02:15:22):
hanging in there. We'll get to him next here on
Fox Sports Radio. In the meantime. In the meantime, I
wanted to play a quick little segment a buy or
sell with the crew. This is where I lay out
either a scenario or I guess maybe more than anything else,
ask a question, lay out a statement maybe, and we'll

(02:15:43):
see if the crew is buying or selling this as
has kind of typified my takes tonight, we start with
Eddie Garcia. So Eddie, here's our first buy or sell.
We'll go right, I got three of them. Will be quick.
I know we're up against it, but I want everyone's
take on this. All right, buy or sell? Eddie, and
I know we've discussed this quite a bit. But the
Saints or the team this week and that could end

(02:16:05):
up making a run to the super Bowl. I would
buy that, Yes, Roberto, buy or sell. Saints are the
team this week, playing this week and that could make
a run of the super Bowl. Yes, definitely, there are
one of my pre predictions to manticipate Bowl again the
Saint Nice Cooper, are you on board of this as well?
Or yeah? I am by all across the board on

(02:16:27):
a bye. The only thing that could happen is maybe
something weird. So with that in mind, buy or sell, Eddie.
There's too many bowls and something needs to be done
about the college game. It's at the toothpastes out of
the tube. So I just want to be clear. Nothing
is going to be done, but buy or sell. College
football has to fix its multiple uninteresting bowl games. I

(02:16:49):
am totally buying that. There are way too many bowl games.
I don't even care about half of them. And I mean,
call me old fashioned, but I think a bowl game
should be a reward for a not just a good season,
but a very good season and you know, going six
and six or you know, being barely above five hundred.

(02:17:12):
I mean, who cares? Why I mean, I know they're
just made for TV events, and I guess some people
watch them. I don't. I love college football and I
have zero interest in the great majority of these games. Now,
there were some great games today, we're not talking about,
you know, the Rose Bowl and those types, even though
they're not you know, there's the rotation and sometimes they're

(02:17:35):
not a part of the playoffs. But no, they need
to get rid of a lot of these ball games.
So are you're trying to tell me you're not fired
up about the Ticketmaster Birmingham Bowl today between a six
and six Boston College team in Cincinnati, or the tax
Lay or Gator Bowl between Indian Tennessee's what you're trying
to tell me, Eddie, because that's the vibe I'm getting,

(02:17:55):
And I think I agree, that's what I'm trying to
tell repair. Toe buyers sell that too many bowl games.
I'm buying that. And now with not that there's a
that not that they have the college football playoff, I don't.
That's only those are the only games I watched. I
don't even watch any other bowl games, even even the
Rules Bowl. Man, I just to love the Rules Bowl
now too much. I was getting yelled at for not

(02:18:16):
talking enough about the Rose Bowl on Twitter, and then
I realized, well, what can you say, Oregon one? Congrats? Yeah,
I mean it's Hellby game, Hellaby game. Uh, Coop, what
about you? And I gotta be honest with you. I'm
kind of in on bowl games. But I also realized
at one point I'm not gonna sit down and make
time for a six and sixteen playing Cincinnati tomorrow as

(02:18:37):
far as bowl season is concerned. How about you, Coop, Chris,
you can never have too many bowls? And I agree upon.
I don't. I don't even add I don't. I don't
watch college football at all anymore these days, So all right, Uh,
fair enough. You know, what if if if you have

(02:18:57):
a gambling interest, it makes sense. I guess there's some
easy money to be made here. But still, I just
I love college football, and I've usually had the take
of listen, if you don't like the Bulls, don't watch him.
But then I realized we're rewarding teams with mediocre season
and yet mediocre seasons. And yes, I'm all about the

(02:19:19):
kids and making it a great experience for everyone involved,
but come on, and then, guys, since I won't have
a chance to hang out with you. Sticking with college
football next week as Big Ben returns, Eddie buy or sell,
Trevor Lawrence is going to do it again and upset
LSU in the National Championship Game. I'm selling that. I

(02:19:42):
like Trevor Lawrence a lot. I thought his performance against
Ohio State was phenomenal. And I really love the Clemson program.
If I was a five star recruit and I could
pick any program to go to, I would go to Clemson.
But that haven't been said. Joe Burrow is out of
this world, and LSU I think just has a little

(02:20:02):
bit better athlete. So and it's in the game, by
the way, is in New Orleans. So um, sorry, Clemson
and Trevor Lawrence, it's not gonna happen. Roberto, you're buying that.
Are selling it on Clemson for the championship game. I'm
selling that LSU Joel Burrow. So damn good Coop. How
about you football? Go ahead, just cast go buy the

(02:20:23):
Colors selling. I will say this, I've been blessed in
my other job. If you will to see some of
the best of college football up close for the better
part of the last twenty years, and I have never
seen a better individual performance than Joe Burrow last week,

(02:20:46):
and I'm telling you what it's it looks like it's
going to continue this week. I think you're getting you're
gonna get a good game. Question why why didn't he
make it an Ohio state? Was that just bad decision
to not Goligi World the offense? I think it's a
great question, and since we're running so long here, let

(02:21:07):
me table an answer to that until after Eddie garcia
is update. I'm trying to work on my clock management, Coup.
I'm trying to work on my clock management, and it's
been horrific today. Roberto, so I had send improvement over
the normal. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk

(02:21:30):
Search f SR to listen live. Chris, if you're keeping scorer,
The Dallas Cowboys have now head with the three meetings
with with Jason Garrett. They're meeting today and we still
don't know what they're going to do, so uh well,
we'll maybe we'll find out later today, maybe not, but

(02:21:51):
they've got to have more meetings to figure out what
they want to do. It's America's team. It's the most
American thing ever is to have an s ton of
meetings that just waste everyone's time. I mean, well, come
to America. I will, and I've been careful tonight too,
because well, in a roundabout way, because by the time
some of y'all podcasts this, it could be done. I mean,
you could be listening to this right now going, Oh

(02:22:12):
my gosh. Plank was so hammered last night. He didn't
realize that Dallas Cowboys moved on from Jason Garrett because
this could happen in the next couple of hours. But
I just I don't see it happening. I think they're
gonna wait and drag it out. I don't know why.
I haven't been able to figure out why they want
to drag it out, but at the very least there
they're doing their due diligence on if they're better off

(02:22:33):
going in another direction. Hey, great news. There's a quick
and easy way you could save money. Switch to Geico.
It only takes fifteen minutes to see if you could
say fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Go to
geico dot com and see how much you could say,
real quick before we get to Cowboy and windsor Roberto,
you would ask why didn't it work out for Joe
Burrow at Ohio State. And it's interesting because I felt

(02:22:55):
the same way. But think about who he lost his
jobs too, JT. Barrett and Dwayne Haskins, and you look
back in the history of college quarterbacks and what they
were able to do. Those are two pretty intriguing guys
and at least in one a first round pick that
we think has a solid NFL future. With that said,

(02:23:17):
Joe Burrow wasn't very good last year. I mean, there's
a reason why my fellow college football dorks and myself
our writing articles are throwing out talk segments about how
this might be one of the greatest one year turnarounds
in the history of college football. I mean, you go
look at his numbers, and I just think, to your point,

(02:23:39):
it's the perfect fit in the perfect place at the
perfect time. And ellis our Ohio State didn't end up
too poorly getting the transfer in justin fields and now
they're set for likely what at least the next two
or three seasons. So it's one of the wild things
in college football. The transfer portal now and it has
been for years, but at least with now the immediacy

(02:23:59):
of what has become almost immediate eligibility for any player
that submits a waiver, or maybe when you're looking at
a situation where you have a grad transfer. Russell Wilson
kind of started this trend where you're looking, you're watching,
They're so good there? Why didn't work out there? Well,
as I've come to understand it, you know, Joe Burrow

(02:24:19):
is one of those guys that was kind of a
last minute throwing as a scholarship offered too, like Ohio State,
and Kevin Wilson, who was their offensive coordinator, was kind
of debating if he was even going to offer him.
So it's wild. That's probably ten thousand times more than
you ever wanted on it. But I think it's as
simple as saying that he's landed in the perfect position
with Joe Brady and Steve Enzinger running that offense, and

(02:24:42):
it's just an absolute match made in heaven and his
coach is smart enough to just get out of the
way and let it go. So could us at or
drown from making that move? All right, let's because we're
running short on time and I never want to short
my man, Cowboy. Let's hit up the phone lines and
wrap up this edition of the Ben Maller Show with
Cowboys Corner. Cowboy from Windsor. Welcome to Fox Sports Radio.

(02:25:04):
What's going on? Well? Thank you boys US Michigan Swamp
Stanford forty nine and nothing in the first Rose Bowl
in nineteen o two, but they're only eight and twelve
in the Rose Bowl. My uncle Hughey Turner would have
been ninety three today, but he died of a brain
hemorrhage at eighteen sixty nine in nineteen ninety six. And
on January first, eighteen sixty three, President Abraham Lincoln issued

(02:25:26):
the Imans in Patient Proclamation, which freely confederate is, including
ostensibly my great grandparents and Castro also Batista from Cuba.
New Year's Day fifty nine and New Year's Day sixty two,
the Beatles failed the dation for Decca Records, which signed

(02:25:48):
the Tremolos instead of New Year's Eve. Nineteen seventy two,
Roberto Clemente died in a plane crash while delivering supplies
to the earthquake Nicaragua, and yesterday Franklin Angela was eighty two,
as was Anthony harpin New Year's Country, Joe McDonald was
seventy eight, Grandmaster Fly sixty two, Morris Chestnuts on Facebook

(02:26:13):
forty four, and Rest in Peace, David Stern and Don
Marson speak to people to morrow, Martin. I always enjoyed
ran Is. Did you felt did you felt like did
you feel like Roberto? You kind of accelerated the clock
there a little bit for Cowboy. He seemed a little
bit rushed at the end. There. No, we did all
the time too. He know he knows the clock. Okay.

(02:26:34):
I just wanted to make sure he knew that I
was in no hurry, I did not. Did he give
a shout out to his uncle in the middle of that? Yes,
well done, Cowboy, Well done. All right, we got a
break when we come back. Best to Twitter from tonight,
and some final thoughts before we make way for Clay
Travis right here on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to

middle of the night and now live from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. In for Ben Maller, It's Chris Plank.
Thanks Eddie. I mentioned it during the break off the air,
but truly, I'm grateful for you guys welcoming me, and
I understand it's can sometimes be a very needy audience,
a very judgmental audience, and I appreciate the Mallar militia

(02:27:37):
taking it easy on me for two nights. So Eddie,
thank you, Roberto Coop, you guys are awesome. This is
so fun. It's weird. Full disclosure for me, I actually
got a lot of sleep during the day. I didn't
wake up until like noon after getting off the air,
and then I took a nap during that boring ass
first half of the Sugar Bowl. So I'm I'm like

(02:27:58):
juiced right now. I'm ready for another show. But Clay
Travis is in and he'll be coming up next right
here on Fox Sports Radio. I had to laugh at
Andrea's tweet because based on your drop during Cowboy Corner,
Andrea writes, nice mention of the planet Uranus from the
sports Sorceress. Happy New Year and yes, yes, Coop one

(02:28:19):
can never have too many bowls. New Year to you too.
I don't disagree. I don't disagree. A couple more tweets
before we get out. They've been great all night tonight.
I like getting an opportunity to chat with the guys
because I don't get to do this very often, so
I apologize if I didn't go to in depth. Dean writes,
as a Packers fan, I hope the Cowboys keep Garrett

(02:28:43):
or hire McDaniels another mediocre coach. After all, he drafted
Tebow in the first round. Enough, set, Coop, I'm meant
to ask you, does that kind of make you laugh
a little bit when you hear Josh McDaniel considered a guru?
I mean, there's a hell of a starred he had
that the first year he was there in Denver, But
I mean, does it does it make him mad when

(02:29:04):
you hear people trying to make him out to be
a guru when you lived it? Oh? No, he destroyed
that team from the inside. It did reach. It was God,
it was awful. Sorry man, Next New Year's Eve, writes Eddie,
I want to party with Gronk and Steve Harvey. You know,
I went back into Pruder film that because I have
no life today. I don't know if Steve Harvey's that

(02:29:27):
good of an actor. I really don't, because there's a
part of me that knows that had to be set up, right,
I mean, it had to be set up, But the
reaction from Steve Harvey was it seemed pretty damn genuine.
And I don't know how much you guys watched of
the New Year's Eve on Fox, but my man Gronk
was hammered, hammered. He might have been drunker than the

(02:29:51):
dudes on the cable news network were, but yeah, I
wouldn't mind partying with him, no doubt about that. Tony Rights.
The reason it's taking so long right now in Dallas
is that gard got pictures of Jones doing something wrong
and they're settling on the money or a job. I
will say, there's certain people that when they end up

(02:30:11):
keeping their jobs or you constantly hear of them maintaining
their coaching responsibilities, you can't help, but wonder what do
they have on the owner, what do they have on
the guy making the decisions. I mean, I thought the
same way with Jacksonville. But if I got people mad
at me want to talk about the Dallas Cowboys coaching vacancy,
then holy smokes, if I tried to go in depth

(02:30:32):
on Jacksonville. Paul writes, I'm a huge Auburn fan. Per
your Bowl conversation, I didn't care at all about today's
game or that they lost. It doesn't compare to playing
Georgia or Obama. Now, as a big twelve guy, I
will use the Bowl records to fit my narrative and

(02:30:53):
tell you that bulls don't matter. They're glorified exhibitions, always
have been, always will be. But if your conference has
a good Bowl record, then you would use the bowls
to say, oh, well, you're just using it as an excuse.
We went out and we knocked him around. We showed
we could play with the big boys. One more quick

(02:31:15):
tweet here, and I wanted to make sure I got
this out. I totally disagree about David Stern, Larry Magic
and the players who came over from the ABA had
a great deal more to do with the turnaround of
the NBA. Stern's unevenness of handing out justice was wrong.
See the Heat's knicks or the heat knicks the sun
spurs and not allowing that Chris Paul trade. That's what

(02:31:39):
I mentioned. We go full circle on the show. Look
at us, look at us? Who would have thought? But
that's the thing that stood out to me about the
last twenty four hours is typically we only talk about
the good, right, and maybe a couple of days afterwards
you're like, yeah, well he did have this, and he

(02:31:59):
did have that or she had that situation there. But
usually the initial twenty four hours of somebody passing, we're
very complimentary. And David Stern, part of what made him
great was how uneven he was in certain instances, was
how he had a kind of quick and evil in

(02:32:23):
some ways temper. I mean, read what David O. Holdridge wrote,
but it was all for the good of the game,
unless you're a Lakers fan, where he ruined our possibility
for a run. And then Jeff writes, my sources are
saying the Cowboys are working on a deal for John Gruden.
Please please please no listen. Gruon's gonna be fine in Vegas.

(02:32:47):
I mean he's got a ten year deal. In one
of those ten years they might actually make the playoffs.
That's all I care about right now. All Right, everyone,
have a great second day of January. I hope that
your New Year's resolutions are still very much intact. Jonas
is in Tomorrow Night for Roberto, for Coop, for Eddie Garcia.
I'm Chris Plank. Stick around. Clay Travis is coming up

next on Fox
