Speaker 2 (00:08):
Happy Monday to you. Maybe a vacation for a lot
of people. Is the Christmas holidays just a couple of
days away? Merry Christmas? Do you carry rhads? Merry Christmas?
Do you?
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Dan?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Carrie and I got together yesterday during all the week
sixteen action, and my how things have changed even with
the games happening less than twenty four hours ago, including
this drama in Motown between DK Metcalf and the Detroit
Lions fan Jason Stewart. This year, Iowa Sam hanging out,
as is Isaac lohencrom Have you heard about trainer games? Carrie?
(00:40):
Add this to your binge list. Ten athletes go head
to head for the chance to win an iFIT trainer
contract with two hundred and fifty thousand dollars streaming on
Prime Video starting January eighth. You don't sign up, I'll
watch it. Maybe a little too late right now? You
know who else is fit? Dk Metcalf? He is right.
Metcalf really came onto the NFL stage with that side
(01:03):
by side picture of him and a J. Brown flexing
in the weight room. Right like that was the emergence
of DK Metcalf, before he ever stepped onto an NFL field,
You then have DK Metcalf. One of the lasting images
of DK Metcalf is chasing down Buddha Baker because he's
running down the sidelines in Arizona as a member of
the Seahawks. The DK Metcalf chases down Buddha Baker, and
(01:27):
we talk about the speed, and we talk about the
hustle and the desire of DK Metcalf. Unfortunately, this year
we've been talking a lot about what's the deal with
DK Metcalf, And now we have quite a deal with
DK Metcalf as he got in the face of a
Lions fan during yesterday's game in Detroit, and now it's
gotten to the point where the fan has hired a lawyer.
(01:50):
NFL insiders are weighing in all from a game that
we should be talking about how the Steelers stole from
the Lions and went into Detroit and grabbed the victory
to ensure their tight grasp on the AFC North that
they have right now, but we aren't talking about that.
We're talking about DK and this fan. Yeah, No, it was.
It was a crazy moment.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
We were we were actually here in the building and
doing some work and watching some of the games, and
I know we were going through a conversation and I
saw it flash in front of my eyes as it
was happening live, and I.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Was like, oh, that's not good.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
DK Metcalf and then obviously I think the conversation kind
of went along a little further with me and you
and you were like, I think that that fan probably
did something, you know, like if the fan did something,
I can understand it, but not in the not in
DK's actions. Obviously, you don't attack a fan, but these
fans are getting really brash and they're getting a little
bit out of pocket and some of the things they're saying,
(02:42):
and so the fact that there's no live mike in
the area to hear what's what's being said, really I
have to kind of reserve judgment, but I want to
hear what you got, what you think about it day.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Well, I told you yesterday that I thought that if
you're a fan that yells something to a player that
forces them to respond to you, especially during game action,
yeah you're a loser. It is if you have I
understand getting under somebody's skin by saying maybe they went
three for twenty from the field. Yeah, But if you
(03:15):
say something that gets under the skin of a player
and that player responds in a certain way, I think
that you've got to find better things to do as
a fan.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
And see that's my and that's what we disagree, because
there is a moment of me as a player, right,
I've people have said all kinds of things, right, and
it doesn't bother me. But you know, and so I
will say, like, as a player, you can't be sensitive
in those moments or no, obviously I told you you
can't react in those moments. You're trying to win a
big game and you gotta be focused on that. The
next series. What did he do? He came out and
(03:46):
dropped a little simple dig route, right, like you got
to be locked in.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Now, it depends on what they said.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
What he said though, and there are some circumstances about
around what he said that isn't that isn't clear.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Now what the fan said was that he said DK
Metcalf's government name. I thought he said as Kyles was small.
Oh he didn't say that. He said DK may have
gone up into the stands if that was the case,
but the fan claims that he was calling him de Kaylin.
It's the Carrius Metcalf, which was his That's what DK
(04:21):
stands for, and that's what DK was upset about. That
was the fans side of things. I don't believe that.
You don't you don't believe that. No, you don't think
that he was just saying that. You know, like when
Russell Westbrook was called west Brick and he stood up
for himself and he stood up for his name, which
I can understand, Like I'm proud of my name. You
(04:44):
should be proud of your name. Russell Westbrook is it's
it's his family name. It's his you know, his family
that he has, his family that came before him. Stand
up for it. I've been known to make silly puns
on names, but ultimately just ingest I I feel like
this was a part of that. So while I say
that if you're a fan, that makes another player respond,
(05:08):
this is a really really low boss. This is a
really really low bar. So I was waiting to hear more,
and then we started to hear more. Carry Rhoads and
this is what something just doesn't smell right. This was
Chad Ocho Sinko with Shannon Sharp I'm the Nightcap talking
about the interaction and what Ocho heard was said to
(05:30):
DK Metcalf.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
I got word obviously, i'm knocking doing you know, putting
your hands on the fan or punching the fan. But
he did call a racial slurry, called him in word,
and he did call his mama. And I think with
those words be in exchanged and the fans saying that,
I think that's where the action, you know, occurred, where
(05:51):
he threw I think he threw a punch. I'm not
sure if he connected or or whatever. But he did
call him then in word, and he called his mama.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
See word you say the sea word ojo.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Oh my bad.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
That's bad, yes, bad, terror, It's terrible. Okay, is that bad?
I can't take any of my femotion. I actually think
like that's like the new number one. It's right like
like of of you know, I mean, yeah, but there's
(06:24):
none of this was said. I am sorry there that
that did not happen, That relaying of events did not happen.
The fan has actually now gotten representation, has hired a
lawyer and vehemently denies what chad Ocho Cinco said that
(06:45):
the fan said to DK Metcalf, do you believe o
Cho Sinko or do you believe this fan who says
he never said it. I don't believe either one.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
I think there's something in the middle because if he reacted,
if DK reacted the way he react with the fan
quote unquote saying his full name, and he reacted that way,
that doesn't sit well with me. But also on the
other end of that as well, if that fan said
the racial slur and called the mom the other thing,
(07:17):
he would have reacted even bigger than that. And so
if it's somewhere in the middle, and I don't think
we'll ever actually know until they handle this in court.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yes, And that's why I think it's now starting to
become a cover up for DK Metcalf, because now you're
hearing all these stories that are coming out. This is
a fan who dressed up in a blue wig, all right,
this is right. This is a guy who has fifty
yard line seats as well at Lions games, and you
think that he's going to spend the thousands upon thousands
(07:44):
of dollars to yell these hateful things at players on
the opposing bench. He probably pays the money to call
him by his government name. It's probably what he does.
And yesterday when we were here, I thought, man, that's
garbage from the fan for whatever he said to me.
DK Metcalf and I am completely now on the other side,
(08:07):
I think that DK Metcalf and the Steelers and these
sources that are going to NFL insiders are now trying
to concoct this story that this fan said this vicious
thing the DK Metcalf, that DK had to respond in
the only way that he could, and that is to
physically throw a slap, punch, whatever it was, towards the
(08:30):
fan because of Howard egregious of the things that the
fan said. And when I look at the video and
I see the fans around two seats away, as a
boy in a Santa camp An Alliance Santa cap, his
mom is sitting between him and the fan. I don't
know if they're together. I have no idea. No one
responded in a way where if you were to hear
(08:51):
those words that they claim that he said, everybody is
just sitting there. I guarantee you say that stuff at
a football game, that there are people around that would
gladly point out that fan for sure, And now the
NFL machine is trying to concoct this story that DK
Metcalf is not only a victim because of what was said,
that this fan also said things to him last year
(09:13):
when he was a member of the Seahawks, right, And
I just I don't think this fan is like, you
know what, I didn't get under his skin enough last year,
let me use some racial slurs and just completely totally
insult his mother. I just don't think that that's not reality.
And that's the thing that now annoys me about this
is I hated that the fan did this, and now
I see how thin a skin Dk Metcalf has. It's
(09:34):
completely bogus on the Steelers wad receivers part. Damn.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Just letting you know it right now. You're sitting really
you're sitting like arms length away from me. If you
call me Carrie Dwayne Road, that's a problem. Just so
you understand that. Yeah, Sam Jason, I think you guys
hear this. Just make sure you guys are aware. But no,
I mean when you talk about DK. We talked about
DK in the situation Dan I got said for me
as a player and being a former player, like these
(09:59):
things happen, So the racial slurry, whatever the thing is,
whatever happened in that moment, it still doesn't warrant him
putting his hands on him. And so for me, it's
just it's all bogus. And then when you talk about
the Nightcap, you talk about Oto and those guys, like
you can't take Oto series for anything, he says, anyway,
so you just got to kind of, you know, move along.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
I agree, well, I agree to some sense, but there
is a wait in who Ocho Sinko is. He's a
former player and so now in that circles and he
has the platform to do so this is this is crazy.
Jason Stewart, our executive producer. We've also seen this before
at times, but I just I have a tough time
(10:39):
believing that that's actually what was said to DK Metcalf.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
I do too, And maybe as a middle aged white guy,
I shouldn't have an opinion on this, but you would
think after the whole Jesse Smolette thing, m hmm, combined
with the Miles Garrett thing from twenty nineteen where that
was never even resolved, Like, I can't imagine that May
and Rudolph said that, and it is still a quarterback
in the NFL. Like, so when you have these allegations,
(11:06):
it does much more harm to the actual real allegations.
And that's that's the problem I have with this. If
they're playing this card, and I think you do leave
the kind of zaniness of Ocho Cinco, like Carry said,
he's not to be taken seriously.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Maybe this is a thing.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
But I do agree with Dan there, somebody is trying
to mitigate the punishment. Yeah, the Steelers have very important
games coming up to lose DK Metcalf, the punishment would
be less severe if everyone buys this version of the story.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
That's true, non And the other part about it, we
don't know, right, Like, think about all the cameras, all
the mics, all the hot mics that are on an
NFL field, right the quarterbacks. The quarterback usually has a
headset or a camera that that that they communicate with
with the coaches and all that stuff. And you didn't
hear about the racis slur from Mason Rudolph never came out.
But with that one being on the sideline, it's just
(11:58):
like the prime spot where there's almost like the blind
spot of audio and media NetSpot.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
How many of your teammates if they heard somebody yelling
those things about you and your family, how many of
your teammates would step up on that response. Yes, there
wasn't one teammate even close. There weren't eight or nine
guys pointing that to him get him out of here,
or eight guys wanting to climb the wall and take
care of their own business. It's one guy. And the
funny thing is is I I really like Tom Pallisero
(12:27):
of the NFL network. I think that he does a
great job. But he was the one that set out
this tweet that said DK Metcalf had a history with
this fan dating back to last year. That's all adding
to this narrative and this story that it's not DK
Metcalf's fault. If I'm Ryan Kennedy and by the way,
that's the fans name. If I'm Ryan Kennedy, yeah, I
(12:50):
am hiring a lawyer like it's now it's I mean,
he's bringing a knife to a gunfight. If now the
NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers and all these other people
are coming at him saying that he's the one that
did wrong. I again, there's a line with fans, I think,
but now you see how the NFL and the Steelers
are trying to spin it, It just it stinks, it
like it's really a bad look. And I don't believe
(13:12):
a word of it from from DK Metcalf or any
of the people that want to spread this narrative.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Yeah, no, I agree with that point. I don't think
that's what was said. And also when I agree with
the fan and bringing up, you know, hiring a lawyer
and lawyering up because this is now if he didn't
say that becoming a defamation thing, right, so he has
to do something to protect himself.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
A source close to Metcalf says the fan called Metcalf's
mom a derogatory word, and that was also what Osho
Sinko said. So this was from Yahoo Sports. So again
they're trying to trying to build a band or a
little spin a little it's scoring one hundred and fifty
miles an hour on icy road? Icy road? Is it icy? Yeah? Crazy?
(13:56):
Patriots come back beat the Ravens last night? Who cares?
Steelers and Aaron Rodgers somehow survived the Lions in that game.
Who cares? But this is what we're talking about. He
has Carry Roads. I'm Dan Byer. That is Jason Stewart Iowa.
Sam's here as a glowing crown hit Carry up at
Carry twenty five Roads. You can find me at Dan
Byer on Fox.

Happy Monday to you getting ready for Niners and Colts.
You don't see this game too often? Once every four years? Wow?
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Oh? I've never Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I mean just kind
of an odd one. Yeah right. I mean you think
Giants Patriots? You can think back to the Super Bowls. Yes,
Niners and Colts. You don't think back to anything at
all period. I honestly I can't even remember either team
playing in each other stadium ever on any highlight, wow, whatsoever? Yeah,
(14:58):
I can't even now that you bring it up. No,
can't do it, can't do it. Jason Stewart's here, so
is Isowa Sam, Isaac Longcron hanging out on a Monday
here on Fox Sports Radio. The Roads to Milan runs
through Saint Louis, see Ilia, malalinin Alyssa, lou and Amberg
Glenn compete at the twenty twenty six privagen US Figure
(15:19):
Skating Champion Jips January seventh through the eleventh. Be there
is the twenty twenty sixth US Olympic Skating team is
named live tickets at US figure Skating dot Org. It's
gonna be a crazy twenty twenty six Not only World
Cup coming up this summer, got the Winter Olympics, Yes,
coming up in February. They actually get underway a couple
of days before Super Bowl sixty, which will be played
(15:43):
in the home of the forty nine Ers, the night's
game being held in Indianapolis. It was a crazy weekend,
one that started out with a fight and a concert.
How was your weekend? Carry Roads. We're gonna find out
in a segment we like to call love and Hate.
Speaker 6 (15:59):
What did you God?
Speaker 2 (16:00):
I love you and what did you hate? Meet?
Speaker 6 (16:03):
These player has.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Basically go around with the crew Isaac, Jason, Sham myself
and you Carrie. Tell us what we loved and what
we hated from the weekend. Carry I give you the
opening honors. Give it to me first.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Well, I mean as far as the weekend goes, as
far as the love part of it for me, I
I I got to go to my you know, to
my show on Friday. I had, I had a live
show Friday, got the thing in front of some new
friends and some friends and family and had a great time. Man,
it was beautiful music and the love was pure and
(16:37):
you can feel it. And in the same vein, Dan,
the thing I hated the most about this weekend was
the show as well. Oh boy, yeah, because I was.
I was up past my curfew and it ran all
the way until almost game time Sunday with you until
it took me to recouper rate. So love and hate
in the same vein of the show it was. It
(16:58):
was beautiful love and hated it.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Well, I'll tell you if you got any more hates,
we'll get to the more of your hates later on.
But just so you know, Carrie went on stage, and
Carrie's bedtime is eight, so he was already playing from behind.
Even though he loved being on stage, he was ninety
minutes past his bedtime when he's saying that first exactly.
Jason Stewart, our executive producer, what did you love from
(17:22):
the weekend?
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I really liked that my Los Angeles Chargers and Isaac
you can co opt this if you want. Chargers win yesterday.
That wasn't that surprising, but it is surprising if you
take the context of this franchise over the past I
don't know, twenty thirty years. We typically the Chargers do
not win these kinds of games, even though they're supposed to.
(17:44):
They usually find a way to lose these. And they
won it an impressive fashion. And then you read that
they control their destiny and the AFC West after the
Broncos lost. My goodness, So if the Chargers went out
they could win the division. With this offensive line, they
could actually win the division.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I love that. That's amazing.
Speaker 5 (18:05):
Christmas comes early for Charger fans.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
It's one of those things that I don't think we realized.
And I'm gonna use the Bengals as an example, but
the complete opposite. So we saw the Bengals and Joe
Flakeel beat the Steelers on Thursday Night Football in that
crazy game and Joe Flacco amazing, and that was the
only game the Bengals won when Joe Burrow was out
(18:28):
like from Week two. They won the game against Jacksonville
in Week two when Burrow got hurt, but from then on,
the only game that they won was that Thursday night
game and we saw it. And I feel like with
the Chargers, we saw them lose to the Eagles on
Monday Night Football and we thought, you know what, yeah,
(18:48):
this just isn't no. They won, they won Monday foot
What am I thinking? The Jaguars Jaguars game? They lose
thirty five to six, and we think, man, Charges just
aren't it. Chargers just aren't it. And here they are
a game back. I to think that they're actually in
the division that I think Denver ran away from it, Yeah,
is crazy, but sometimes those things stick out. I I'm sorry,
(19:12):
who's think about what you just said. So the only
real slip up over the last few weeks for the
Chargers was to a Jaguars team that at the time
was like, oh, you lose to the Jags. It's always
a gut punch, but given the way they've played, it's
a totally forgivable loss. Now, yes, yes, but it's how
they lost too, because they got crushed. They did. It's
(19:34):
thirty five to six, you know, to that point, and
now you look back at all the injuries that they
have and you're like, oh, yeah, hanging around Chargers just
keep on doing it and doing it and doing it well.
And now they've got the Texans coming to town on
Saturday and then a possible winner take all with the
division matchup in Denver in Week eighteen, Isaac glohingkron since
(19:57):
Jason mentioned you you have the floor.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
What I loved from the weekend was one of the
most underrated social media accounts out there, the Twitter feed
for the Texas A and M Campus Police, which was
the sole source of entertainment for most of their college
football playoff game with Miami on Saturday that everyone did
(20:20):
not like unless they enjoyed, missed and partially blocked field
goals for the uninitiated. The Texas A and M Campus
Police live tweets its activity log during Texas A and
M home football games, and it allows fans out there
to enjoy gems such as this as we had on Saturday. Quote.
(20:42):
Minor caught with two Saint Arnold's lawnmowers, one michelob Ultra,
one nicotine vape, and pack of Marlborough one hundreds in
pockets ejected. Another miner caught with seven fireball shooters in
pockets ejected. Another minor saw officer and dropped their beer,
(21:06):
then started drinking water, sighted and ejected anyway, and finally
saw officer and tried to hide a mango whiteclaw. Citation issued.
And this is just one of dozens of incidents. It
just gives a whole fascinating window into the behavior of
fans at college football game.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
How do you put seven fireball shooters in your pocket?
Speaker 6 (21:30):
I actually had this kindly clarified by Fox Sports Radio
Adult beverage insider five Jonas Knox. Apparently you can get
these seven fireball shooters all in a plastic candy cane
for your holiday entertainment. So apparently that's how they were transported.
(21:53):
It was all in a candy cane. But I had
to have that broken down.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
From me as well. Exactly I know that? Is that
a candy can in your or? Are you happy to see?
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Are you just happy to see the agnies on the
college football playoff?
Speaker 2 (22:07):
By the way, I was. I loved that game. I
loved that game. I know Isaac said it was dreadful.
It made every possession, every play an adventure because with
the wind being as bad as it was, and you
combine college kickers and then Miami ends up scoring a
(22:28):
touchdown late to make it ten to three, and you
then say to yourself, well that leads insurmountable considering what
we've seen this entire game. And then Texas A and
M drives down the field quickly ends up throwing a
pick in the end zone to end the game. But
my goodness, I thoroughly enjoyed you know what, that rock fight.
Speaker 6 (22:51):
You're right, it was. It was the best game of
the weekend.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Yes it was. I know some may not agree or
say it's not saying a lot, but I I absolutely
loved it. Io was Sam, what'd you love from the weekend?
Speaker 7 (23:03):
You can also buy those fireball and like little six
and eight packs as well, so they come in all
different really, all the different delivery methods there.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Are you a pro? Are you still keeping your amateur status?
I don't.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
I don't touch fireball. It's it's I don't know, it's
it's a gimmick. It's a gimmick. Liqueur. My love of
the weekend was going over to A. Rich Davis's house,
a co host of Kamnia Rich a show you'll hear
right after this show, and watching the Jake Paul Fight,
watching some college football playoff Alabama and Oklahoma, out on
a Rich's giant projector on his patio and eating all
(23:38):
kinds of food. A Rich had a great spread of food,
a little Mexican platter and chicken wings pizza. So that
was my social activity of the weekend was Friday night
going over to Rich's house and see the.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Rest of us got our invitations lost in the mail
of I know some.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Of you were invited, but yeah, are you sure about that?
Speaker 8 (23:56):
Well?
Speaker 2 (23:56):
I don't know about you, Carry or Isaac, but I
was was un daycared, yes, not daycare duty. I'm hanging
out with yeah, dad care. Yeahh Why don't you just
throw a pen at me? That's right, because you never do.
Don't ever throw Brody under the bus. No I did,
trust me. I'd hang out with him every second of
the day if I could. But but it was it
(24:17):
was him and I on on Friday. All right, good,
good list of love? Now what did you hate from
the weekend? All right, I'm gonna just take this one.
There you go, because it stems off of what Carrie
loved and hate his performance. So I come to find
out Carrie and I do the show on Sunday, So
(24:38):
it's me Carry rhads Mancy Belanos is at the news desk.
Shay's our executive producer, and Mary Mack is our technical
producer for two thirds of the show. And I see
that on social media that Carrie's got an audience of
our show, and nobody told me they were going. It
was going to be very, very difficult for me to
(25:00):
go because of the situation, and me and Brody were
hanging out on Friday night, but no one bothered to say,
you know what, We've got eighty percent of the crew
that is like, here, we should maybe ask the twenty
percent of he's available. No, didn't happen. So you want
to talk about like not getting invites, that was one
(25:21):
of them to carry show on Friday night, clarify that, Dan,
I gave you the invite though you did. Okay, yes,
all right, all right. But I was thinking, I'm like, okay,
how can I make this work. My wife's like, hey,
if you need to, you know, need to drop Brody
off with me. You know, I'll be home a little
bit later. She had a birthday thing that she was
doing with her sister and some other friends and it
just didn't work out. But I'm like, oh, there's our
(25:43):
there's our Sunday show. So clear this up for me.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
I think for the listeners that are confused, your hate
is that you didn't get included, but you got an invite.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
What's what's the hate? I got invited? Okay? They all
chose to go together, like it. It was a Manzi
Shay and oh I saw these pictures. Yeah, yeh, but
Marry couldn't make it, so then it was Manzi and see.
But at no point were they like, did anybody ask
Dan at zero? Like it never even crossed their mind
(26:14):
whatsoever to check in again. It was going to be difficult,
But just because I'm not able to go doesn't mean
I don't want to be asked, right, The infight still
goes a long way. Yes, correct, Correct, That's what I
hated from the weekend, all right, Jason Stewart.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
I kind of hated what became of the Christmas Day
NFL schedule given the results of the weekend dead one
the games on Christmas, if you're not aware, Cowboys at Commanders,
Wyons at Minnesota, Broncos at Chiefs, there would have been
a little bit of interest in a couple of these
(26:51):
games if the results of yesterday were different. And now
they're just pretty much non factors. So the NFL kind
of shot itself on the foot here. They're providing nine
to ten hours of NFL action was seemingly nothing on
the line unless you're in your fantasy football super Bowl,
which I am not, and unless you gamble on games,
(27:12):
which I know. There's a big market of those people
and I am not, so I think I'm gonna be
just watching Christmas movies.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Unfortunately, I still think that they will get big numbers
because we had seen things giving games in the past
with the Lions that didn't rate, and you still have
the Cowboys. It's still the Cowboys. Even though there's not
a lot to play for, the Cowboys are still a
part of that. I don't know if the Lions and
Vikings are bringing in a bunch of people, but I
(27:38):
still think that the Cowboys brand will help with that.
And it's a holiday and I think people will default
the football over the NBA schedule that day, And that
kind of fallows in the line.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
With my hate Dan. I hate that we compare all
the time. I hate that we live in the world
that's all about comparison, or you're not better than this player,
or this thing isn't showing better than this thing or whatever.
So talk about the NFL games and the and these
Christmas Day games like I don't really. I mean, if
(28:09):
you watch those, I think that's fine. I'm you know me,
I'm gonna be watching the NBA on Christmas. I'm a
big NBA guy. So I hate the comparison game because
I think you can do both, and I think there's
a market for both, and that's kind of where I fall.
I think that's my biggest hate for this.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
You know this, did your hate come up like just
immediately after I said it, like in comparing the NFL
in the NBA, like saying that people default to the NFL.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
No, no, no, no, no, When when Jay when Jay
Stu brought it up? Because it is that it is
disappointment slate, this disappointing slate of games for sure, Like
there's no like I want to watch that game because
it means something to what matters. But with the NBA,
you still have teams that aren't really good that can
be scheduled for that Christmas Day game before the season,
and I still take place in watching it. So I
(28:54):
don't know, it's just a weird thing, even Lebron doesn't
want to show up.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
I saw that there is a humble there's a humble
bride in this. I know, I understand, but like for
most of the listeners, they could just kind of not
pay attention at all now to Christmas Day games and
their life won't change. But for those of us that
work on Friday, we're almost compelled to pay attention to
games that seemingly have That's true, no meaning, that's true.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
So am I wronging saying that Spurs Thunder is by
far the most fun game on Christmas Day, even with Rockets,
Lakers and Mavericks and Warriors. No, you're you might be right, Like,
I mean, you might be right that considering what we
just had in NBA Cup. So yeah, I'm curious to
(29:43):
see how that game would match up to the other games.
Isaac Lohnkrawn, what'd you hate from the weekend?
Speaker 6 (29:47):
I'm gonna say I hated, but deep down I am
endlessly amused by this. This is also really not technically
from the weekend. It happened early this morning, and I
thought it was going to be a bigger topic than
it turned out to be. But Bill Belichick is reportedly
close to hiring Bobby Petrino as the new offensive coordinator
(30:08):
at North Carolina. Just to refresh people's memory. This is
the same person who thirteen years ago wound up being
fired as the head coach at Arkansas after he got
into a motorcycle crash and lied about being alone on
the motorcycle when it turned out that his young mistress
was on the motorcycle. So understandably, social media has reacted
(30:30):
with great, great measured discipline to this news. At C
Kurtzman commenting guaranteed to get Harley Davidson nil deals, at
Andy Boomer Sooner posting double dates about to look like
daughter day at the old folks home, and at CFB
(30:51):
brew Crew posting quote, please go after coach O to
make this the horniest sideline in all of college football. Unquote.
I mean, I mean, Bill Belichick could not sculpt the
whole villain business any further than those folks.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
I've already covered it. He hires Sharon Moore while you're
what I was thinking, That's what I was taking.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
Might have been the runner up.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Aside from hate not being included. I was invited. I
just wasn't included. Trevion Henderson getting knocked out of the
Ravens game yesterday. Oh dagger in fantasy leagues. Oh you
were one of my own, all right, Iowa, Sam? Would
you hate from the weekend?
Speaker 7 (31:35):
Well, the last two weeks of being a Green Bay
Packer fan have been brutal, brutal. Okay, you go back
two games ago. They lose in Denver, they lose. Micah
Parsons morale takes a big hit. You're feeling bad as
a Packer fan. Fast forward though to this past Saturday
when they played. Packers had a ten point lead with
five minutes to go. Jordan Love has a concussion. He's
(31:57):
knocked out. That's also that's a big deal. We'll see
how that plays out. But Malik Willis comes in, does
an admirable job. They're up by ten with five minutes
to go. Caleb Williams shows why he is ahead of
I mean, is he ahead of schedule?
Speaker 2 (32:10):
I think so.
Speaker 7 (32:11):
I mean their team's ahead of schedule. Shows you why
he was the number one overall. Pick gets them tied.
They win in overtime, and now you have a situation
where the Packers, if they had won that game against
the Bears, they would have swept the Bears. They would
have been really great shape. They would have clinched a playoff.
I don't know what the division, it is still pretty
much the Bears to lose, right, yes, And so now
you go from if you won that game, you would
(32:31):
have been in great shape. Now you're fighting for a
wildcard spot. The love or the health of Jordan Love
is in question, obviously, no, Micaeh Parsons for the rest
of the year. Your morale. You thought, Okay, we just
win this game and we're feeling good. We're feeling good again.
But it's two back to back losses, a lot of
big injuries for the Packers in that game, and obviously
Michaeh Parsons. It's a hard time being a Packer fan
(32:52):
right now.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
On side kick, I mean it was I don't know
what Romeo Dobbs was doing, but that works what eight
percent of the time they said yes, And.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
It was a terrible kick. It was a soft line
or two. I was like, this is easy catch the ball,
get down, didn't do it.
Speaker 7 (33:09):
It was just like a Shakespearean style tragic unfolding of
events the Packers.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
It was crazy because I didn't think that Thursday could
be rivaled and I thought that maybe Saturday night topped
it because of the history of Packers Bears. What went on,
like it was just crazy and the Bears continue this crazy,
crazy run and.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
That throw by Caleb Williams it could be the best
throw of the season. Sure, yeah, do you think that
he brings up the Bears are on the right path?
I thought yesterday and Saturday was like it Really it
was a weekend for the hot sexy offensive coordinator. When
you talk about Ben Johnson and Dave Canalis and William
(33:49):
Cohen and where they have their teams, you're going into
another coaching hiring cycle. I think it's going to be
all sexy coordinators, offensive offensive coordinators because of the success
of these three guys. What do you guys think?
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Yes, because everything is is it's a copycat league. Is
the phrase that I was looking for. Yeah, and then
what ends up happening is you hire unqualified guys because
they fit this profile and this trend, and then your
back where you started three years prior.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Yeah, it's crazy because I think, yeah, you said it's
a copycat league, and so it's whatever. It is kind
of in vogue at the time, but right now you
think about all those guys. You can go even further, right,
you go, Kyle Sanahan, you can go you know McVeigh here.
They're all offensive guys, right, And I think when you
have that top notts offensive guy and you actually allow
yourself to delegate the power defensively special teams in the
(34:40):
right pocket, that's the right recipe, and that is love
and hate.

Thought about taking it up at the ripe old age

what it was. Yeah, can you skate? I can? Yeah.
I mean I'm not doing any triple. That's why you asked.
I want you to. I want you to. I want
you to set me up.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Come on, Dang.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
The Ravens could not skate by the Patriots last night,
losing to Baltimore, and they also lost quarterback Lamar Jackson
again and ultimately lost season for the Ravens. I don't
know if they really think. I know this for a fact.
The city of Baltimore knows they're not going to win
the AFC North. Maybe the only people who believe that
they still have a chance of the people in that building,
(35:57):
and that is not uncommon. But when Lamar jactually goes
down now with a back injury, after dealing with his
hamstring injury earlier this season, and after being seemingly limited
when he came back from the hamstring injury, just an
absolutely lost season for the Baltimore Ravens on the heels
of two absolutely epic performances by Lamar in twenty twenty
three in twenty twenty four. And now you wonder what
(36:20):
the future holds because Derrick Henry is Derrick Henry. The
defense is missing a lot of pieces rough times with
the Baltimore Ravens. Yeah, this is a very disappointing season. Obviously,
comingto the year, I think they were the odds. Well,
I would say they were high on a lot of
people's list of being the representative of the AFC. And
(36:41):
then you come out and you play that first game
against Buffalo and it looks like that they are that team.
And then that fourth quarter against Buffalo that told the
rest of this season for the Baltimore Ravens. They imploded
it in the fourth quarter. They've been known for having implosions,
even in the years when Lamar was right, and so
(37:01):
to come into a season where him he hasn't played
like the Lamar that we've seen the last couple of years.
Could it be injury, could it be other things? I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
I would probably tend to say it's more injury than
anything else because of just recent history. But this team
isn't put together well. Their star players never show up
in the big moments. They always have negative moments in
the big moments. And so when you add all that
up and then you talk about John Harball, him being
(37:30):
the guy that's leading this group. In my opinion, I
never talk about coaches being fired, but I think for
him this is probably his last run as well, or
it should be. And you got to bring in new blood,
you got to bring in the fresh, a different voice
for that locker room. And they still have some players
that can play and be of great service in the league.
(37:51):
But it's gonna be it's an uphill climb.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
I also think you're just gonna see Lamar Jackson be
a different quarterback than he was the first portion of
his career. That's just to be honest. He's not gonna
be fast as fast as he was when he was
twenty three and twenty four years old. Like, there are
decisions that the Ravens are going to have to make.
Let's ask a guy who's been in that chair before
one that Eric, the coostin the Ravens organization is going
to have to decide. Former NFLGM and the Chargers and
Raiders Tom Telesco joins us here on Fox Sports Radio.
(38:14):
First of all, Tom, welcome in, glad to have you,
and we'll put you in the hot seat right away. Like,
is this a rebuild? Is this a teardown thing with
the Ravens. How do the Ravens get back to being
the Ravens that we know of old.
Speaker 8 (38:26):
Well, thanks for having me on again, And yeah, I'm
used to being in the hot seat. If this is
nothing new, this is a heck of a lot easier
than being in the GM hot speat. But yeah, I
was just listening a little bit before I came on,
and I do prescribe this theory. I think Keiley, what
you said, like, you can't be somewhere for too long
as the head coach and a general manager. Sometimes your
your voice starts to not have this have the same impact.
(38:49):
But to me, like John Harbaugh is no worse coach
now than he ever. I mean, he's still a very
good coach. Of course, you just don't change overnight. They
have a great program there this year, and it just
got hit by injury so hard early on this season
and they just never recovered from that. It just seemed
like just so many things went wrong the typically don't
go wrong with them, and it's hard to put your
(39:10):
finger on it. I thought they had one of the
best rosters in the league going into the season, I
will say during the year, and you finally saw some
of it last night on offense, where they were spreading
the ball around a little more than just relying on
Derrick Henry running the ball and then throwing the day
Flowers out of the slot. So because they have some players,
They've got Mark Andrews is a very good tight end,
(39:30):
Charlie Kolar got a couple of targets. They don't have
a lot at the outside receiver, you know, Hopkins's towards
the end. And Bateman, you know, there's some games he
just doesn't get a lot of action. They just rely
completely a Zave Flowers. But they did spread around a
little bit more last night. The defenses has been up
and down. A lot of it's just been injury based.
But I just think John Hobba is an excellent head coach.
(39:51):
Todd Munkin is a really good offensive coordinator that has
taken this offense forward. But this year for whatever reason,
you know, and injuries are part of it, not the
whole thing, but they just couldn't act get things going
to and.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
That's and that's when you know as a GM and
as a as a former player myself, I mean, you
get in these locker rooms and you know you have talent,
and I think when you think about the Baltimore Ravens.
I just think about them having top end talent. I
don't think they have a super talented roster. I think
they have good top end talent, but I don't think
they have the guys that throughout an NFL season, you
know you're going to have injury, right, and so you
have to prepare for that. And I just don't think
(40:25):
that's the case. And if that is the case, then
it has to be some coaching issues or something that's
happening in the functionality of that team as well.
Speaker 8 (40:32):
Right, Yeah, well, you certainly may be right, and you know,
maybe a lot of us like myself, when I look
at the team going to the year, I thought they
were really talented. I thought they had a little hole
on the interior defensive line. Yeah, they end up being
probably a bigger hole than i'd anticipated. But you know,
as you put the team together, everyone's going to have
injuries and it kind of goes up and down. This year,
they get hit more than most, but that's when you
(40:54):
have to have other role players step into bigger roles
and play like starters and and take off. And they
just didn't at that this year.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Former NFL GM Tom Telesco joining US here on Fox
Sports Radio. He's the former All Pro Kerry Rhodes. I'm
Dan Byer sitting in on Fox Sports Radio. I'm curious
about the Dolphins situation because they let go of Chris Greers,
their general manager. But then the narrative was Mike McDaniel's
going to be back in twenty twenty six. Did Chris
did the move to Quinn Yours solidify that McDaniel is
(41:25):
going to be around? Because I know it was a
rough day at his NFL debut, but Zach Wilson was
passed over as possibly being the as he was the
backup to Tua. Did that move to yours tell us
that Mike McDaniel's going to be back next year?
Speaker 8 (41:38):
You know, in the month of December when it comes
to head coaches in GM's but certainly head coaches, there's
so much noise out there, it's hard to know what's
truthful and what isn't. I like Mike McDaniels. I like
his outside the box thinking. I think he really did
a great job with his team the second half of
the year, keeping them focused when they were basically out
of it pretty early on. But what I do think
(41:59):
is with the to a decision if they decide to
move on from him, very similar to the way that
Broncos moved down from Russell Wilson. It's going to take
up a big chunk of the salary cap. So the
second part of that has to be your quarterback more
than likely has to be a quarterback on a rookie
contract or else it's hard to feel the team. You
really can't go out and buy a freeging quarterback and
big money, not that there's one available, so I think,
(42:22):
and this year's draft is a bit thin. So I
think part of this is to see if Quinn yours
could be a guy for next year if we can't
find another quarterback, and they got to see what he is,
see what he has. But the fact that he's on
a rookie contract is what really helped salary cap wise,
So I think that was probably a big part of it,
to see what he has in the last couple of games,
you know. I mean, most ownerships GMS for an office
(42:44):
is you want to take the whole season, the whole
body of work before you make decisions. I think it's
hard to do that during the season because you're just
so emotional week the week. So let the whole season
play out, let it go from there, and I don't
know what's going to happen there, but they've got a
lot of potential changes on their horizon.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Tom, I want to I want to take you to
back to the NFC, and I want to talk about
the Dallas Cowboys. I know they've they've had some moments
this year. They've been up and down. Obviously, they lose
their top pass rusher, where they trade their top pass
rusher and they get some material help and and they
had a moment during the season where it looked pretty
good for them. I'm actually high on what they have
moving forward. But they also have a big decision with
(43:20):
George Pickens upcoming. What what do you if you're at
the GM, would you give him what he wanted or
how would you handle that situation? Knowing that they need
a few more things as well to make this team
get to where they want to ultimately go.
Speaker 8 (43:33):
Yeah, that is the million dollar, million dollar question going
into the offseason, because I love their offense, and their
offense they score a ton of points this year and
that's what they relied on because the defense just didn't
quite keep up.
Speaker 3 (43:46):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (43:47):
But part of that offense was George Pickens and George
Dickens has an outstanding year. But is this the type
of player that you want to give a long term
investment to, right It's hard, you know, looking from the outside.
Obviously the Steeler decided that they're going to go a
different direction. That wasn't wasn't for them the Cowboys. The
one thing that the Cowboys have that none of us
have is they see him every day in the buildings,
(44:09):
so they have a you know, hopefully a pretty good
evaluation of the person that they want to invest in.
Because if they've already invested in CDE Lamb. They paid
Jake Ferguson, you know, not nice City Lamb type money,
but you know, decent money for a tight end. You know,
they have Dak Prescott's contract, They have a pretty high
paid offensive line, so you have to decide where the
money goes. They need more help on defense, There's no
(44:30):
question about that. George Pickens is a dynamic player. But
these are the tough the tough decisions is this is
what GM's get paid for. It is just the guy
that you want to invest that much money in. For me,
since I have CD Lamb, I have Jake Ferguson, I
have Dak Prescott. I probably would use that money other places,
either offensive line or defense moving forward, but again we'll
(44:51):
kind of see where that fits.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
In Tom's Alesco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio,
former GM of the Raiders and Chargers. I understand we're
all kind of in the same boat. Maybe we haven't
been paying attention to Jacksonville as much as we should,
but yesterday was a perfect opportunity, late window going up
against the Denver Broncos, hottest team in the National Football League.
They go in and dominate that game. Is it just
(45:13):
Liam Cohen or how did things turn around so much
for Jacksonville in a span of one year?
Speaker 8 (45:19):
Okay, I'm like you. When I saw them in September
and October, I just wasn't quite a believer yet. And
then against the Charger at won seven out of last
eight games, are only lost to Jacksonville, and Jacksonville blew
them out, and I know the Charges are a good team,
so I'm a believer now. And then we see yesterday
to going to Denver, which is one of the hardest
places to play, and play the way they did it
(45:41):
was just really impressive, and I mean, this team, they
have talent there and Liam Cohen is pressing all the
right buttons. And I love the fact that Trevor Lawrence
is really playing at consistent level of football, really decisive
in his decision making. Trevory ten is an excellent running back.
They kind of had a loan in his career, you know,
for a year or two, and he's back to where
where he was as as a rookie. And then the
(46:03):
Jacoby Myers trade was outstanding, a really shrewd move. And
I could see that coming a little bit, just with
Edgar Bennett being their receiver coach at Jacksonville and he
was a receiver coach with the Raiders when Jacoby Myers
was there, so there's a familiarity between the two. And
then watching Parker Washington yesterday, I mean, this guy is
a stud and he is you know, it was hard
for them to lose Travis Hunter, which is a you know,
(46:25):
they put a lot of assets into Travis Center to
draft them. But the benefit and the positive is is
Parker Washington now gets a lot more snaps and a
lot more targets and he can really play. So their
offensive talented, Their offensive line is very good. And I
mean that wasn't impressive win as you're going to see
yesterday against Denver.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
That's the surprising part of me is and this is
no disrespect to Travis Hunter, but they got very little
out of Travis Hunter, especially considering he gave up a
first round pick next year for him. It seems like
it's they've even done better in spite of that. Like
imagine if their second overall pick it would have worked out.
It could have been maybe even better for Jacksonville.
Speaker 8 (47:01):
Yeah, that's the problem when a player like Kim gets
hurt is you have two NDS facility, you got a
still corner, and you got a still receiver. He it's
not easy, especially at that level of talent. But you know,
they they made the trade for Newsome from from Cleveland,
and obviously they traded campbellfore him. But they've been able
to survive and on defensive corner not having Travis Hunter.
But I just think, you know, getting Parker Washington volved
(47:23):
Boar is a benefit. Jacoby Myers is so consistent because
we're out running in hands and then Brian Thomas, I know,
hasn't had the year it usually has. He's still a
dynamic threat. So they've got a lot of a lot
of pieces on offense.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
Hey, Tom and Dan, you know what this you know
what this signifies.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
I'm glad. I'm glad you brought up the Travis Hunter thing.
Dan is because the Park of Washington, he gets his
chance to do what he's done his whole life right
where Travis Hunter. I think with this Doults for Jacksonville,
it solidifies him as their corner moving forward. You do
like a package of him on the offense, but not
trying to do both ways.
Speaker 8 (47:52):
In my opinion, Yeah, this could change moving forward, I think,
and we'll see how it plays out. I mean, Travis
is a dynamic athlete, but when you're you know, six foot,
one hundred and eighty five pounds playing both ways in
the NFL for you know, one hundred plus mats a
game over eighteen weeks, that's just really physically taxing and
you may not reach your ceiling at either position by
(48:13):
doing that. So, you know, this could lead them a
different direction. I don't know, We'll see. This is you know,
a question for next year. We'll talk about by all summer.
But they have a lot of talent on the opposite
side of the ball. And you know this is when
when players get hurt, other other players get an opportunity
to step up to play. And that's a Parker Washington
is done.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
It won't be the last time this season we'll be
talking about the Jaguars, and when we do, we will
not call that a small market team.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
Lead.
Speaker 2 (48:37):
Made sure Ke drop Yeah, made sure Sean Baton knew that. Tom.
We appreciate the time. Happy holidays, Mary, Christmas. Talk to
you again soon here on Fox Sports Radio. Thanks so much,
