Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio and Johnny Ramos so
minute ash on this Frida. I know people have been
waiting for this, Jonas. You know how I know because
he was sixty minutes ago that I sent out a
tweet giving you a heads up that this was about
to happen. And so far five people have liked it.
(00:24):
Pick it off. It is gone viral. It is like
playoff fever in Major Baseball. Man, And how about that
National League Divisional Series last night. I'll tell you what, Jonas,
that is baseball the way it wasn't meant to be played.
What what a what a spectacle they put on last
(00:45):
night in Washington, d C. One of the worst games
I've ever seen in my life, yet one of the
most awesome games I've ever seen in my life. Everything
that could go wrong. First of all, that fifth inning
for the Washington Nationals. That's the equivalent to vomiting defecaid
and getting into a car accident at the same time. Well,
this is one of the things that happened to the
fifth inning last year. Is you with a high set,
(01:05):
the two swing and a mess ball gets through the legs. However,
the catcher leaders the throat of first gets into right,
here comes Ross. It's sex to four. That was part
of the four run fifth on the Cubs radio network
that helped the Cubs go on their way to getting
a game five victory. But last night's game, by the way,
(01:28):
I don't know if you guys know this, you know
the slogan of takes seventeen it's actually takes seventeen hours,
because that's how long games are lasting so far in
Major League Baseball's boat season. But that was just one
of the instances Jonas that we saw last night, really
of sloppy baseball in a game that had so many
thrilling moments. It's uh, there's a couple of different angles
(01:49):
to it. Now, the least interesting angle, even though they
won the game, is the Cubs angle, because what a
ballsy performance by the Cubs and Wade Davis, whose arm
was Ellie at the end of that game, somehow figured
it out. Wilson Trais throwing out the lobotone at first
base on on a on a pickoff play that was
designed that they took the risk at calling at that
(02:12):
moment in the game. Like that team, I'll say anything
about the Cubs. That team's got balls many they I
mean staring in the face of of being eliminated down
for one, and they just keep throwing. They do not care.
They are fearless and and they're playing basically with house
money because they won it last year. And so they
just look at it like, Hey, we're gonna We're gonna
(02:32):
keep playing as hard as we can until till the
wheels come off. The other more interesting angle to it
that just the other side of the yes, is the
Washington Nationals, who are the Major League Baseball's diaper fire.
They are the late eighties Browns that they are the
the Buffalo Bills. They just can't figure it out in
(02:52):
a playoff stage and a more disappointment for the fans
in d C. And it's not just the Nationals, it's
the Capitals, it's Sarah Redskins, it's the Wizards. It's those
sorts of stories that bring you so close to listen,
we're not even talking about these franchises Jonas of winning championships.
We're talking about the Capitals and Alexander Ovechkin maybe getting
(03:14):
to a Stanley Cup Final, or how about the Wizards
going to an Eastern Conference final or an NBA finals
after that we're talking about the Washington Nationals winning a
postseason game, and the the thought process of DC sports
fans and specifically last night with the Washington Nationals is
tough for me to comprehend, but I think that every
(03:37):
sports fan is able to relate. The reason it's tough
for me to comprehend Jonas is because there were so
many moments last night that the national fans have to
be kicking themselves. There were so many instances and as
a sports fan, whether you have grown up since you
were six or seven years old liking your team, there
are moments in our lives where our teams had not
(04:00):
come through in the clutch. There's no way that our
sports teams have gone on in wing winning. There are
times of heartbreak, and if you're a Nationals fan, last night,
I can point to at least two, three, four separate
instances where your heart was broken. And when you look
back at Game five of the National League Divisional Series,
(04:21):
you can have multiple options of what went wrong and
what is going to stick with you? And this will
stick with you if you're a Nats baseball fan for
a long long time and maybe forever. I saw this
the other night, so Mark Madden, who's a a radio
host in Pittsburgh and very controversial and a lot of
people don't like him, but I think he's pretty good
because he pushes buttons and it's and it's pretty entertaining.
(04:42):
Mark Madden retweeted a banner that a Penguins fan brought
to the Penguins Capitals game earlier this week, and on
the banner it says, Washington Capitals second Round runner up.
And here are the years, and this is made up
and lose. Yes, this is this is second round runner up.
(05:03):
This is the Washington Capitals eight four, eight, five, eight, seven, eight,
ninety nine, three, two thousand eight, two thousand ten, two
thousand eleven, two thousand fourteen, two thousand fifteen, and then
last year two thousand, sixteen, seventeen. That's all the years
(05:24):
that that team has failed to get past the second round.
But at least they got one series in. The Nationals
have done silch and they've had advantages, they've had pitching matchups,
and I was saying that just watching this game, the
Nationals have more talent than the Cubs. The Cubs are spent,
they've they're banged up, they've got I mean They've got
(05:45):
so many holes in the lineup. Chris Bryant struck out
five times in a row. The Nationals held a four
one lead in that game at home, and it looked
like Kyle, you know, Kyle Hendricks with the wheels were
falling off for Kyle Hendricks. And somehow the Cubs just
stay in it. And it wasn't like they earned it.
It wasn't like they hit a bunch of long balls.
There was an Addison Russell double, there was a misplay
(06:06):
by Worth, like all these things had to go wrong.
Anything that could go wrong for the Nationals did and
the Cubs came out on top. Yeah, and I messed up,
as you're at. It's the the second rout of what
is now the the playoffs. At least they won a series.
Looking at what happened last night, the Lobozone pickoff is
a big one. And I listen, I I'm not a
(06:27):
fan of this by inches. I think that if a
shortstop gets the ball relatively in the in the vicinity
of second base while turning a double play the runners out,
I don't think that you have to physically. That's the
type of guy that I am, because basses are awkward anyway,
especially when they're they're rubber and your feet are sliding up.
(06:47):
I think it's I think it's semantics. I think it's stupid.
I don't think that that call should be made. He
was off the base, he was out. That's not even
the point that bothers me. Jonas the dead ball situation
when Hobby biases bat hits the mask on Matt Waterers
and Weaders thinks it's a double ball, double or dead
ball and you hear the highlight there. That doesn't even
bother me as much. You know what bothers me, stupid
(07:09):
baseball and stupid baseball bothers me. When Wade Davis just
walked the first two hitters of an inning, like in
the bottom of the eighth inning, and you're trying to
amount to come back and Adam Lynn comes up and
swings at the first pitch and grounds into a four
six three double play. If I'm a Nationals fan, that's
what bothers me. That is what what You had an
opportunity to have a rally, and I know the lobit
(07:31):
tone tag came later on in that inning, but to
be able to put in stage a rally with two
outs and to try to come back from the deficit
that you are in and to try to rally from
that to run deficit is very difficult. To get hit
after hit after hit after hit. Wait Davis would walk
the first two hitters. All Adam Linda had to do
is just wait for a strike, but he didn't. That's
(07:51):
the point of me, and that is a sports fan
when you can point to that one point in your
life where you remember, why did they do this? Why
did the Seahawks throw the ball at the one yard
line against the New England Patriots. This is gonna be
the point with the Nationals in my mind, if I'm
a fan, I can't live with why are you swinging? Yeah?
And listen. You can point fingers and you can blame
the umpires and say, oh, mane, they just wanted the
(08:12):
Cubs to win. You can pull that crap all you
want if you're a Nationals fan. Explained to me why
Jason Worth confused a baseball with a scud missile in
the outfield in that game? Okay, explained to explain to
me why trade Turner in the first inning with the
heart of the lineup up on a ground ball taken
by taken by Hobby By as one of the best
(08:34):
defensive players in all of baseball, ran home in that situation.
It made no sense. They the Cubs even designed that
play where they held Turner on the bag so that
way it would give him less of a lead in
case he Tasey took the chance on a ground ball
with one out in the inning. You you you go
home on that play? It makes no sense. Like there's
bad baseball all over the place. How about Dusty Baker
(08:57):
first inning? John j on slide. We're clearly he's safe
on the on the opening pitch of the game and
it's a double. He challenges it. You have no shot
of winning that? What are you doing? Like? It was
so obvious from the get go that this is a
team who felt the pressure, and this is a team
who figured, all right, we're gonna we're going guns plays
and we're gonna win this thing. And all of a
(09:18):
sudden they got into a firefight. And then they were
looking around, going now what do we do? They blew it.
I don't feel bad for him at all. They wait, wait, wait, Johnny,
is that a Max sus are walking in? That was
another issue Johnny Ramos had of talking about Dusty Baker's
decision to put in Max Sus or less Nis. I
just never understand why managers changed the way they manage,
(09:40):
like in the playoffs all of a sudden, like they
do certain things the whole season. At the end, they go,
let's bring to the starting pitcher all the time, I mean,
Matt sure, they looked horrible. He wasn't prepared to come
in and do that at that moment. And what do
you give it? Like four runs and that ending. Of
course not granted, the bat did hit the bat the
catcher's helmet and that should have probably been um catches
in deference, but neither here nor there. It still probably
(10:01):
wasn't right to bring in a starter at that point
in the game. And then it was funny because I
listened to the game on television. The guy said, okay,
well now here, you're watching it on TV two or
just listening in the other room while the TV was on,
or how did that work? I like doing something like that.
So anyway, they brought in the regular relief picture and
the guy on the television, the commentator says, well, now
they've gone back to the regular relief pitching. I'm like,
(10:22):
that's what they should have done from the beginning. You
it was bad decisions. And you know, and Dusty Baker
has been known. I mean, all we hear about is
the bad decisions that he makes, especially with the bullpen.
And it didn't end last night. Let me tell you
it's funny. He gets Dusty Baker after the game was saying, uh,
you know, very disappointed. You know, I would I'd like
to have gone back home, seen my family. What about
playing in the NLCS? What about you know, going going
(10:46):
to play that series. Was that Did that cross your
mind at all? Or was it all like, man, I
can't wait to be close to home. This is gonna
stick with the Nationals for so long. It just it
really is. We were bouncing off what sticks with us.
I mentioned Ohio States ty years ago. It was upset
by Michigan State in a game where they should have
They were the favorites, they were picked to win. Michigan
(11:08):
State comes in with Nick Saban Plexico Burrows was on
that team, and all of a sudden, Ohio State needs
a late drive to win the game, and they have
a first down and ten at the Michigan State fifteen
yard line and they throw four passes in the end zone,
and what is the greatest Ohio state football team that
I believe I've ever seen, was knocked out of the
National championship race. You talk about all the Michigan losses
of different things. That's the game that sticks with me.
(11:28):
Johnny Ramos brings up a game what thirty some years
ago that sticks with him with the Dodgers, which and
LCS Dodgers Cardinals first space wide open and Les sort
of decides to pitch to Jack Clark in Game six
and deposited over the left field pavilion and the Cardinals
go onto the World Series of the Dodgers walk off
home five, John, you aren't even born then, That's that's
(11:55):
what that's true. I was just I just thought about
I heard from somebody. That's when they had Panama Jack
doing the speed gun behind home plate. The reason I
know this we got it on YouTube here. The anything
stick with you, He's got like, I mean, there's one
um when Bruce became Caitlin, I was I gotta be
(12:15):
honest with you. I mean, at least run it by
me first, have to have a ball guy. Uh, Cubs
Dodgers will play tomorrow in l a once the Cubs
finally get here after they're stopping Albuquerque. Yeah, I get
(12:37):
so giddy because we never do the show that much
anymore than when we get together. All I want to
do is play grab bass on the air. Is that
we're not we didn't got a break yet? Sorry? That
is that a lot? Uh? So, he's Dan Buyer. I'm
Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio.

I Colin Cowherds Show a little bit earlier here on
(14:28):
Fox Sports Radio. So you've got Jonas Knocks, John Ramos
and myself Dan Buyer on a b KR edition jumped
it right away to Net's Cubs. But there was Thursday
Night Football last night, Jonas, where the Eagles go on
the road and get a road win against the Carolina Panthers.
And right now the Philadelphia Eagles the best team in
the NFC with a record of five and one good
(14:50):
solid road win last night for Philadelphia. Yeah, they look
pretty good. And at what I've noticed in this so
I'm curious. I know we're gonna be trying to catch
up with Drew bledsoe does Carson went starting out his
career with an offensive minded head coach like a Doug Peterson.
How much does that benefit him? Because it just feels
like he's really comfortable in the offense, like they know
exactly how to call plays for him. Everything's designed for
(15:13):
his strength, and they're getting better and better and better.
And if Jim Schwartz and the defense can do their part,
it's a team that can make some noise. They look
like the best team in that division by far. I
know that these types of players don't grow on trees,
but I love it when young quarterbacks have enormous targets
to throw too. And I mentioned this yesterday on the show.
(15:35):
When you look at what Philadelphia has given Carson Wentz
with el Shan, Jeffrey, with zach Ertz, with Nelson are
with these guys who have great size and can win matchups.
The past doesn't have to be perfect. While he does
throw a good ball, he doesn't have to be exact
every single time. You can have guys who can muscle
(15:57):
balls away. I think that's a big benefit. And honest,
that's not even a huge huge part of their offense
throwing jump balls to these guys, but it's just another
factor of it. You've got a lot of different weapons,
a lot of places to go, and the leap that
Carson Wentz is taken from year one to year two
has been substantial, and their defense is now a solid defense.
(16:18):
Last year they had no cornerbacks whatsoever. They had no
back and they were able to be taken advantage of.
Now that shot up a little bit, even though Ronald
Darby is hurt, their front seven is stronger. Philadelphia is
a team to be reckoned with in the end, and
especially in that division where you look at the Giants
are a complete diaper fire. The Cowboys can't figure it
out that the Elliott drama continues to plague them. They're
(16:40):
losing close games that they would win last year. And
then you're just never quite sure about the Washington Redskins.
So it's hard to find a lot of more complete
football teams right now than the Eagles. But again it's
it's five weeks in, six weeks into the season. We
saw this last year. We had Carson Wentz start out
hot and then he struggled down the stretch. So there
(17:01):
Noe and I also think what they did as well
to on the outside because all Sean Jeffrey only signed
a one year deal, so it's not like they brought
in guys and they just shelled out a bunch of
cash for him. It's it's sort of a prove it deal,
and it's a prove it year for all Sean Jeffrey.
So you know he's gonna play his ass off and
he's gonna want to play as hard as he possibly can.
And you just look at what they did a couple
of years ago, and and the thinking there was even
(17:23):
though we signed Sam, even though we traded for Sam
Bradford and we signed him to an extension, they still
went out and drafted a quarterback. And I wonder how
that's going to be copied throughout the league when you
look at what the Eagles have done early on, as
you mentioned last year, maybe an easier schedule, eight of them.
They had the Browns in Week one. I know they
destroyed Pittsburgh last year in a Week three game, but
Philadelphia has been on the road for four of their
(17:44):
first six now five and one with that mark, and
that really helps to not to be able to play
home games for a majority of the season. Joining us
now on the program is this is the Doug Gottlieb Show.
He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer. That's John Ramos. He's
a four time pro bowler, mine maker and now a
guest of the show. Former NFL quarterback Drew Bleds. So, hey, Drew,
thanks so much for coming on today. Yeah, thanks for
(18:06):
having me on. Guys. We are yeah, we uh well.
First of all, on the on the positive side, pretty
fired up about my my Washington State. Coo, I love,
I've got a bone to pick with one of your colleagues, Cowherd.
He he owes me a bottle of line from the
USC game man, and he hasn't settled up yet. So
(18:27):
if you guys bump into him, tell him he owes
me some grape juice, I'll say, I say, you double
down because of how well things have gone have gone
so far in Pullman, and I do want to ask
you about Washington State in just a second. But Jonas
and I were talking about Carson Wentz and what he
did last night for the Philadelphia Eagles and what he
has done so far in his second year. Were you
(18:48):
surprised at how much of a jump he has taken
from year one to year two getting the Eagles off
to a five and one start. Well, you know, um,
first of all, I thought he was pretty damn good
last year the rook team, and I watched some of
the stuff that he was doing. You know, he uh,
he can make all the throws, seems like he has
outstanding vision and uh and he also moves around really well.
(19:09):
But there was a throw he made uh in the
game last night that were kind of slipped inside the
pass rush, reset his feet on third and long, and
then just threw a dime on to a receiver cross
in the middle. I can't remember who he threw it too,
but I think he's one of only two guys in
the league right now that could actually make that throw.
He and Aaron Rodgers. Uh. And that's super high praise
(19:29):
for for for a second year guy. I think he's
a pretty special, pretty special player. He is Drew Bledso
super Bowl champion, four time Pro Bowler, joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio. There's been a trend going on
in the NFL to where you've seen it with Ben McAdoo,
although the results they've struggled there, but Dirt Cutter and
Tampa Bay, Doug Peterson in Philadelphia, and it's almost like,
if you have a young quarterback, you want to pair
(19:51):
him up with an offensive minded coach or a former
offensive coordinator. Did you feel like a better quarterback or
a more prepared quarterback if you ever played for an
offensive minded coach, you know it would have been fun
to try it. Had Parcels and Pete Caroline at Belichick
and you know, so I just I had I had
all these defensive minded guys. Do you think it impacted
(20:11):
your play? Well, I don't know, you know, I just
never got to see the other side of it, I did,
you know, I think it's I've worked with had eight
different offensive coordinators while I was in the league. Um,
and uh I did work for some for some pretty
good ones, you know, Sean Payton probably at the very
top of at last. I only got to work with
Sean for for one year in in Dallas, my first year.
I wish you we'd stayed together for a while. But uh,
(20:34):
you know, there's there there is a there is a
difference between these great uh um offensive play callers and
the guys that are average at it. What Drew Bledsoe
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, what were the
advantages of maybe not having a head coach with an
offensive background, where there were there any that that you
could tell with with the offensive coordinator? Well, you know
(20:55):
what I mean. Shoot, you know, the the the coaches
that I had, um, you know, three of them are gonna,
you know, be Hall of famers. You know, Parcels is
already in, and Belichick certainly will be, and I think
Pete Carroll will be a football Hall of Fame coach.
These guys, even though they were they were primarily defensive
minding guys, they are great football coaches and um and
we still we still managed to throw it around quite
(21:15):
a bit. We led the lad the league in passing
attempts a number of times. It feels like Cam Newton's
at the point of his career where he's got to
have a CounterPunch, Like everyone sort of figured out exactly
what his fighting style is. Now he's got to develop
a CounterPunch sort of the second half of his career.
What did you have to develop as you got older
in the NFL in order to progress and continue having success?
(21:38):
You know, I think it's the biggest word I would
I would use this precision, um, you know, in order
to really have great success. You know, obviously Kim can
throw the ball down field with the best of them,
but you've got to be able to be really precise
and have great timing on the shorter uh throws that
sometimes get taken for granted. And that that was something
that I got better at as as a progress into
(22:01):
my career. Um, understand, how did that the importance of
making the those accurate throws on the on the short
throws um in order to give yourself an opportunity to
hit the home runs. Later, Drew Bledsoe joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knox, I'm Dan Buyer.
You mentioned Luke Falk. How is he going to transition?
What would you suggest? What advice would you offer him
(22:22):
as he plays out the rest of his college career
and then moves on to the NFL. What advice would
you give him as he tries to make this transition
come January towards the program and what are the adjustments
that he may have to make coming from Mike Leach's system.
You know, I've actually talked with Luca Pitt and I
think he's already ahead of the game in terms of
(22:43):
the transition that he has to make. UM. You know
Mike Leech's system, UM, and I don't. I don't know
all the ins and outs of it. But a lot
of times they don't spend a lot of time as
quarterbacks UM UM studying coverage. It's more just a progression
that they that they work through. Uh. Luke has taken
it upon himself to really really start to understand the
(23:03):
ins and outs of defensive football. UM, which is you know,
you have to be able to do that at the
next level. Uh. If you're just peer progression at the
next level, you're gonna be behind. You got you got
a skip ahead from skip one and two and started
and go to three, four and five in order to
be successful. And you're as a quarterback, and you can
only do that if you really understand what a defense
is doing. So he's he's ahead of the game. And
(23:24):
then I think he really really showed, um, both NFL
scouts and really the rest of the world what he's
all about in the game they played against usc because
he man the kids. The kid took some hits, uh
and kept just delivering the ball on the money down
the field. Um. I think he really opened some eyes. Um,
you know, probably both with the scouts and I think
with the people that are considering these awards at the
(23:46):
end of the season. I love Mike Leach. I think
he's one of the most entertaining people in sports, not
just college football but but overall. Wins. The last time
he had a press conference or said something that surprised you, Oh,
surprise me, I don't. I'm it's kind of hard for
him to surprise me anymore. But I loved his monologue
he had this last week called the uh the college
(24:06):
football playoffs. It's pretty hard to pretty hard to pretty
hard to refute his logic, you know. I mean you
look at at you that there's there's a playoff at
every level of football except for NC two A Division one.
He's drew bled. So four time Pro bowler, former NFL quarterback,
and now wine maker. And I know what's going on
in northern California with the wildfires. Um is grab everybody's attention.
(24:29):
As a wine maker, and knowing what is happening in Napa,
you and your partners are doing something about it. Tell
us how you are helping out that region in northern California.
Drove Yeah, well, you know, first and foremost, you know
what I mean, we make wine up here in wallow
While up in Washington, but it's really all the one
big community in the in the wine world. And I
have a ton of friends and mentors and and uh
(24:50):
you know, people that I look up to and in
California wine country, and then there are a ton of
people that that have been affected. And so what we
decided to do. We've got some some library wine that
we old back every year, you know, a couple hundred
cases that we hold back and then we try to
you know, the initial plan is to release it after
you know, six seven, eight, nine years, but we decided
that the highest and best used for that wine right
(25:11):
now was to put it out to the public and
then give all the profits to charities in Northern California. So, uh,
somebody wants to uh to make a an impact in
Northern California and also get some great wine out of it. Um,
you can just find you can find us at double
back dot com. Um, you know, buy a couple bottles
of wine and we'll send all the profits to Northern California.
(25:32):
That's amazing again, double back dot com. Get some great
wine and help out Napa County and they're disaster relief
fund as they try to um recover from these wildfires.
Thanks you. It's it's a scary thing up there, mant
and they were they were to recovery. I don't think
it's even started yet because the fires are still going.
It's supposed to get windy again this this this weekend.
So we're we're sending a lot of a lot of
(25:52):
love and a lot of thoughts their way and hopefully,
hopefully at least get all the people out of harm's way.
We appreciate it. Thanks so much. We'll do it again soon.
Drew Bledsoell, former NFL quarterback. It's good wine too. I
had a bottle for Christmas and it was so good
that you don't even realize because you're just drinking. It
tastes good and normally, you know, if I've ever had wine,
(26:14):
it's like the two buck Chuck or like rex Allia,
which is like three bucks in the store. And uh,
I didn't realize what impact it was having until I
got up to like go walk, yeah, and I almost
tipped over, like like a dog with three legs, almost
tipped over. Did not go well. But now he's always
and he's always been gracious to come on and talk
(26:35):
with us, and he always always a stand up guy.
So good things that he's doing. And the Raiders are saying.
The game Sunday against the Charger's still scheduled to be
played in Oakland, um time on Sunday. Dan Buyer Jonas
knocks here in for Doug Gottlieb on Fox Sports Radio.
You can listen to the show is always on the
I Heart Radio app or on Sirius x M channel
(26:56):
eighty three. There's a bizarre situation that is going on
in the NFL involving a former m v P. We'll
get to that next here on Fox Sports Radio. But
for all the latest, the great Stevie d is here
to tell us more. Good afternoon to you both. On
that Raiders home game against the Chargers. They did say
in the statement a half an hour ago the team
that we will continue to monitor air quality conditions in
(27:19):
the Bay Area. The northern California wildfires still going on.
Smoke apparently from the fires has left Oakland. Boys saw
on the news last night just a San Francisco photo
where you wouldn't even want to be outside walking around
in the streets. Raiders altered their practice schedule because of
the air quality, which was by the way, worse yesterday
than it was on Wednesday, So it's not like things
are getting better. And of course those are outdoor stadiums California.
(27:42):
We have a lot of NFL to update on this Friday.
Minnesota quarterback Sam Bradford is out this week, as his
Vikings wide receiver Stephen Digs with knee and growing enturies, respectively.
Ravens running back Terrence West out this weekend with a
calf injury, Redskins running back Rob Kelly probably out, He's
doubtful with a bad ankle, Dolphins wide receiver divi Ande
Parker doubtful for with an ankle injury, and Jets running
(28:03):
back While all Powell will be a game time decision
with a bad calf now practicing again today was Titans
quarterback Marcus Mariotes had bad hamstring and Tennessee doesn't play
until Monday night against the Colds. The Chiefs do expect
tight end Travis Kelsey to be back this weekend after
a concussion. Kansas City wide receiver Tyreek Hill will play
despite the hamstring injury recently, and Falcons wide receiver Julio
(28:26):
Jones is back from a hip injury, but wide receiver
mohamedson New is out for Atlanta with a hamstring injury.
ALCS Game one on FS one tonight Yankees at Houston
eight pm Eastern time. Massa Hero Tanaka against Dallas Kaikel.
Game two will be on Fox TV Saturday at four
pm Eastern time. The Dodgers are hosting NLCS games one
(28:46):
and two Saturday night and Sunday night at Dodger Stadium,
and the Cubs airplane to l A was diverted overnight
after a family member on the plane fell ill and
was sent to a hospital. Also, new pilots had to
be brought in due to schedulings to the Cubs plane
was on the ground in Albuquerque for about five hours
this morning. They're still do to have a workout at
roughly four pm Pacific time with news conferences from both teams,
(29:09):
including when we find out starting pitchers for tomorrow during
that but seven pm Eastern time hour, that'll be today
at the stadium game. That's good to know the Cubs
are getting a workout in today because I won't be.
It is Friday, and I am ready for the weekend.
So that's you're saying, you got one into, you got
one in Today's got one in October. That's what I'm
trying to say, Steve, That's what I'm trying. I worked
out for the both of us. Dan good, thank you
(29:31):
chest and shoulders as well. And Johnny Ramos you want
in on this, you want Jonas to work out for
you as well. I would definitely like that you get
the cardio portion already. It's already in the bag. So
I'll take chest. Dan, You've got shoulders, John got Cardio
a b k R edition of the Doug gott Leap
Show here on Fox Sports Radio, as Doug was in
for the Herd today. So you've got Jonas Knocks, You've
got John Romo Ramos, and you've got me. You kept
(29:53):
your name as Ramos, right, just like your Twitter handle
is stayed the same. Yeah, I change it on in
the weekends. It's okay for it's at j S Romos
zero six, okay. And you can get Jonas at the
Jonas Knock and you can get me at Dan Buyer
on Fox. And you can find the Carolina Panthers right
now in the Loser's Ledger in Week six of the
NFL because they lost last night to the Philadelphia Eagles.
(30:15):
And while we talked with Drew Bledsoe about Carson Wentz, you,
we also prior to that kind of started to talk
about Cam Newton a little. And Cam Newton last night
just did not seem on the same page as his
wide receivers in that game. Fifty two times the Panthers
through the ball last night. That's the most ever in
Cam's career. They end up losing by five and Jonas
(30:36):
this just lends more information and more data to the
narrative that I think that people need to realize is
Cam Newton is only going to beat Cam Newton when
he runs the ball. And last night showed so many
examples of why it just doesn't pay if you're Carolina
to try to protect Cam Newton as a runner and
(30:57):
not have him run the ball because he's not that
great of a rower as we saw last night, And
to be honest, he was the only thing that they
had on the ground. Of the eighty rushing yards Carolina
head last night, Cam Newton had seventy one of them. Yeah,
so the rest of the team chipped in for nine
yards rushing. This talk about saving Cam Newton and making
him not running anymore last night, to me really went
(31:18):
out the window. Yeah, No, it's sooner or later. You
just gotta acknowledge what the guy is. And we're kind
of making a joke about it, but I'm not that
far off from being serious when I say, you know,
Jason Worth and Kyle Schwarber felt really lonely after their
big airs in left field the Cubs National Series, like
they're all out there alone. People are booing, um, they're
(31:39):
throwing beers onto the field. Probably that that's a lonely feeling.
You know what the other lonely feeling is in sports
being a wide receiver for the Panthers down two scores
because you don't know where that ball is going. That's
just the fact. That's the bottom line. When did Michael
Vick when teams started to figure out, Okay, all we've
got to do is try and contain him running the ball,
and let's just let him. Let's see he can beat
(32:00):
us with his arm. It's the same thing with Tim Tebow.
Cam Newton is so physically dominant he's been able to
get away with it. And it's not hating on the guy.
He's he's really fun to watch. He's been an exciting player.
He earned his m v P. But let's be truthful.
Since two thousand thirteen, he's completed six of his passes
in one season. I mean, that's just bottom line. And
(32:22):
when the body breaks down, you got to rely on
your on your on how you learned to throw the football,
how you learned to to process the offense. You've got
to rely on all those other aspects of your game.
Because physically you're not gonna be able to do this
and take this pounding forever. It's it's it is funny
people say that the Panthers need to protect Cam Newton
(32:43):
because they need to keep him around for eight or
nine years. I don't need a Cam Newton that just
throws the ball five years from now. I need a
Cam Newton right now that is a running and throwing threat.
We saw in the dive that he made towards the
end zone that was not ruled a touchdown it and
it shouldn't have been. It was out of bounds of
the ball has to be inside the pylon. The fact
(33:03):
is Tony Romo on the broadcast says there's no other
quarterback in the NFL that can make that play. And
he's right because Cam Newton has the size, the speed,
in the athletic ability to make those plays. Now, if
he gets injured, he can't do it. But if you're
just keeping him in the pocket as well throwing the ball,
he's not doing that either. So I would rather have
the threat of Cam Newton running the ball for three
(33:25):
years then to sit there and say we need to
protect the guy, so he's our guy for the next
five to eight years in the organization because I don't
want Cam Newton only as a thrower as my quarterback.
I want the dual threat Cam Newton that puts pressure
on the defense. And last night he was the only
reason with his ground game that the Panthers were really
in the ball game because they couldn't do anything on
(33:46):
the ground outside of his running. Here's the great thing
about it. We can hear it coming because of the
the ambient sound at first, and then you know he's
about to jump in like you know the undertake acor
he would never come out immediately in the music with it,
you hear the bells beforehand, like that's the bells, like
the hiss before That's that's how they want it done here.
(34:08):
It's just the joke. Did joke everything? Um? No? So,
but but the whole and the other part of this
as well too, is that Caroline has doubled down on
the idea of having him long term his quarterback because
who's their backup? Derrick Anderson m hm, he stinks. Okay,
he's not good and we've seen that over and over again.
So they go out with a top ten pick and
they take Christian McCaffrey, who's a gadget back. I'm sorry,
(34:33):
but it's just it's what he is. You watch him
in these games and and the ball is designed to
get him in mismatches that are try and get him.
He's basically Tarik Cone, except Trek cons had a better
year than him so far. Like so, when you when
you watch the offense and now it's designed, it's like
they're trying to figure out ways to where they don't
have to have Cam throw it down the field. But
when you get down a couple of scores, you don't
(34:54):
have a choice. I think. I think Christian McCaffrey has
had a solid start of the season, but as you mentioned,
what he thought that you could provide. The Eagles linebackers
were all over McCaffrey last night. He was the only
way that they're running game. We're dump offs to Christian McCaffrey.
And yeah, I agree with there's only there right now,
at least in what they're doing. There's only so many
things that you can do. You've got to have Cam
(35:15):
running the ball, and there's no point short term or
long term to think that you should save him to
make him just be a throwing quarterback, because then you're
you're not getting any value whatsoever. He is Dan Buyer.
I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox
Sports Radio. You can always listen to the show on
the I Heart Radio app and you can find us
on Sirius x M channel eight three. Up next, we
(35:37):
have a development in the NFL. There is some a
little bit of breaking news in the NFL involving one
of the top quarterbacks in the league. That's next year.
On Fox Sports Radio, it's a b k R edition
as he's Jonas Knox. That's Geen Ramos. I'm Dan Buyer
in for Doug Today, who is covering the Colin Cowherd Show,
and for Colin Today on The Herd on Fox Sports Radio.
(35:59):
You can all He's tweet us. I'm at Dan Buyer
on Fox you can get Jonas at the Jonas Knocks
and John at j S Ramos zero six. We've got
some news coming up in just a little bits um
from Steve to Sager as we actually play a little
fun but you had a there was some news from
the NFL that changers wanted to touch on of what
we've got looking ahead the week six Jonas. Yeah, there
was some yelling going on during the break because some
(36:22):
people felt like it was not breaking news. I felt
like it was and it made for a better tease.
But I will split the difference. It is not breaking news.
But the very latest out of Oakland is that Derek
Carr has been taken off the injury list and he's
expected to start this weekend for the Raiders against the Chargers,
which just seems like an awful idea with a back
injury and those two guys on the outside and Ingram
(36:45):
and Bosa. I don't know about this one. It's also
an awful idea to play in smoke and not to
make a joke about the wild fires. But I cannot
believe that there aren't more plans. I mean, as I said,
the Raiders were altering their practice plans to deal with
the smoke. Not only are you talking about a three
hour football game in the middle of the afternoon, you're
(37:07):
talking about tailgators that stay before and stay after. I'm
just surprised not more has been done to possibly move
this game or to play it somewhere else. Speaking of games,
this is game time side on the Doug Gottlieb show,
(37:27):
and Steve the Sager joins us today. Happy Friday, Steve,
Oh really is this a formal holiday. It's just something
to be celebrated it because it's Freda works with the Chargers.
Now he's too good for us. By the way, those
Chargers going up against Derrek Carr, he could just hand
(37:47):
off all day because they can't stop anybody running the ball.
If the act, if you give up a hundred yards
rushing per game, you know you're in the bottom half
of the league. The Chargers give up over a hundred
sixty yards rushing per game. Just give it to Lynch
and get out of it. How would you know that, Steve,
officials of the Los Angeles Radio I may have noted
(38:12):
that what game do we have today? Oh? What game
do we have? John's psychic? My favorite psychic. Well, we're
gonna have to hear your predictions, gentleman. Is not psychic,
it's psychics. It's almost a question in and of itself.
Is number one The n C double A has maybe
not shockingly, decided not to punish the youth University of
(38:33):
North Carolina after all for those academic irregularities. Question, what
would it take for the n C double A to
come down on a school for violating the rules. Well,
I will I will say this, Um, you can't be
a blue blood apparently because North Carolina gets to uh
float scott free with all of this. I wish I
knew this at Wisconsin if they made up fake classes
(38:54):
when I went to school, because I would have signed
up for those as well paper courses. As it is
amazing that Darren revoltweeted they spent eighteen million dollars on
the investigation North Carolina did, and it seems every penny
was well spent because a lot of us were thinking, alright,
Roy Williams is gonna lose his job, no postseason for
basketball or football and they get off scott free or
(39:14):
what about the titles they've had or none of that
is in dispute. What's not in dispute is major academic fraud.
Is is had occurred North Carolina. That occurred, and c
double A even agrees that occurred, They just can't conclude
that rules were actually violated. Kind of a big difference though,
between some guy looking over somebody's shoulders on a test
(39:34):
and somebody else ordering hookers for the entire tea. Well,
here's the deal. They weren't even real tests. They were
like fake classes, show up paper done. At the end
of the year. Number two, a federal appeals court lifted
that injunction that blocked the Ezekiel Elliott six game band
as if now he can't play, guys, will he sit
(39:55):
out any games this season? I will. We have a
we have a special guest in studio, sir, who right
now is suspended by the NFL. Okay, um, I can
guarantee you Ezekiel Elliott will not play this weekend. He's
(40:16):
holding up one finger that guy. He is not excuse
who is not going to play this week Get down
Fox Sports Radio Twitter on this weekend? Taking place this weekend,
Cubs Dodgers opening the NLCS Saturday night and Sunday night
games in l A. Who's going to be taking Game one, gentlemen,
I don't know, but I can foresee in the future
(40:38):
John Ramos complaining about this series. Just no, I can't.
Something will go wrong even in the Dodgers win that
I see John Ramos complaining about on Monday. That's what
I see. That they could go up to Oh and
John's going to complain about something They should be favored um, Listen,
who do the Cubs have left to pitch? They've got
(40:59):
John Lackey, half of John Lester and Rick Suckcliffe, I believe, Yeah,
Rick Suckcliffe, is Carlos Marmel available for Jenkins? Anybody? I mean,
I don't know who. I don't know who's who's available
for them there. They have no shot winning this. Yeah,
it might be John Lackey this weekend and then he
retires literally after the game. This is game time on
(41:26):
the Duck Gottlieb Show. By the way, we were brought
to you by the Dollar Shave Club, and we are
going to give you exclusive details about the Dollar Shave
Club as this show progresses. I cannot wait for Week
six in the NFL, Jonas, because I've got a dandy
pick um that you are not gonna want to miss.
Get out of here and rolling on with Johnny Ramos
(41:47):
on a b KR edition here on Fox Sports Radio,
getting yourself for Week six in the National Football League.
Also getting a set for Game one of the American
League Championship Series Yankees and Astros tonights playing in Houston.
It is Game one, and then tomorrow's Game one between
the Dodgers and Cubs in the National League Championship Series
(42:08):
will be played at Dodger Stadium. Cubs arriving to l
A after a flight that had them stop in Albuquerque
because a family member of one of the UH team
members was sick, so they had to stay at Albuquerque
more than a couple of hours today making their way
to Los Angeles after last night's win in d C,
which was about thinking about quarter to one in the
morning when the game finally ended on the East Coast,
(42:30):
and you're gonna have a Cubs team that's not gonna
be UH completely well rested for that game, but at
least they've got some momentum after dispatching the Nationals in
the five games. If if the Cubs win Game one
against Kershaw, it should be counted as the biggest upset
in the history of sports. Forget the miracle on ice,
forget to forget the Patriots beating the Rams in the
(42:52):
Super Bowl. I don't want to hear about it. Forget
Buster Douglas Tyson. I don't want to hear about it.
It is the biggest upset in the history. They shouldn't
even play the game. They should They should honestly take
the night off, rest up, get massages, have a few drinks. Um,
they just do anything but play the actual game because
they've got no shot against the Dodgers. So what you're
(43:14):
saying is it would be better for the Cubs to
just say, you guys, have Game one. You can't use
Kershaw game to We'll see a Sunday. That's why the
thinking by some people and who the Cubs go with
to start Game one is there some talk about Kintana.
Kantana threw a few pitches in the game last night,
but they looked at it like a bullpen session, so
he would be ready to go. And Kantana's got good
(43:35):
stuff and he pitched well in the previous series against
the Nationals. So there's thinking, why don't we just throw
a Lackey out there, take the chance that maybe he
hasn't on night, Like he threw some good games down
the stretch of the season. It's his final year. Why
not put Lackey out there. It's Kershaw, You're probably not
gonna beat him anyways, and just get healthy for game too.
(43:57):
And I get it, because all you really need to
do is split one of the first two. But to
expect him now on a delayed flight to go into
l A and actually win Game one against the Dodgers.
And by the way, so why was the flight delayed? Ah?
You know a passenger on board had a medical issue.
I had to go to the hospital. Why don't you
just come out and say a one of somebody's relatives
(44:18):
got hammered on the champagne and had to get there. Okay, well,
you know what, I'm gonna be reckless and say somebody
got their stomach pumped. We don't know that maybe there
was a more more serious issue. Did you hear Did
you hear John Lester? After the game? Did that sound
like a sober environment to be in. I have been
in locker rooms where guys have won championships and they
(44:39):
have declined to do interviews because of how much they
drank in the postgame celebration. I had that. I truly
I swear when I would travel for Fox Sports Radio
and I would cover events, it actually happened. Happened a
couple of times in the NBA Finals. Hey, so and so,
would you be able to come on now? It may
(44:59):
have bend. They just didn't want to talk to me,
or they didn't want to talk to two wats at
that time that could have been the case, but they
were more friendly and at least more I don't know,
open to the situation than maybe others who would just
flat out decline me, like Jason Worth did after the
two thousand eight World Series. I'll never forget that Phillies
win the World Series. Everybody's on the field, it's chaos.
(45:20):
He tried to do an interview with Jason Worth and
he just blows me off. So seeing Jason Worth not
succeed in the ninth dinning last night, maybe it wasn't
the thing that the worst thing in the world that
I could see. I still hold grudges, but there have
been players who have drank enough where they felt it
was enough to tell me about again. It could have
been just a great excuse, but they said, Hey, I
(45:41):
had a little too much champagne, a little too too
many beers. I'd rather not, but I appreciate the offer,
and all I could say that that was toast. Yeah, well,
I mean and and you're a big drinker, so that
I know that that got you a little bit jealous.
You've been known to Dan's never drank in his wife.
It's a joke for those that do not haven't drink
since I was twenty one. I did drink when I
(46:02):
turned You think I did do that on the birthday?
What do you drink? There were some shots and some
some beer. Kind of beer. Oh gosh, I don't know.
I know that. I think I had a yeager bomb
on my man. That was at State Street, Bronson, Madison,
because that's one of the places you go, you go
(46:22):
bar hopping when you're turn twenty one, right, that's what
That's what I was. I think my birthday was on
a Thursday or Friday. Remember back in the day wet Rot,
Do you like root beer floats? Yeah? Yeah, okay, there's
root beer bombs. You take root beer schnops, you drop
it into a light beer and it foams up and
it tastes exactly like a root beer float, except with
these root beer floats. If you have like five or six,
(46:43):
you get sick to your stomach and you're hammered. And
remember that was like the end thing to do way
back when, like a week and a half ago, and
not a good idea. It's it's pretty safe to say
if you hate root beer floats, I hate you. I
don't know how anybody could not like a root beer float.
Shout out to all the die bedecks listening here on
Fox Ports. You can get sugar free you know, sugar
free ice cream and sugar free root beer. Absolutely. By
(47:06):
the way, here's a guy who sounds like he had
about fifteen root beer floats after the game. This was
cub starter John Lester break down that seven ounce safe
for us from Wade Davis tonight. I have no idea
how blacked out. I have no idea. I watched literally
probably three ounce of it. Um. I have a problem
in postseason games actually watching the game and the hugout,
(47:28):
and um, I watched the last three ounce of the
dugout and it was awesome. He did a great job
in the last three house the other seven, the other
one before. I have no idea what happened. Who's the DJ, Oh,
who's the teacher? That's awful? At least should have broken
(47:49):
down the three outs that he saw and at least
called him off. If somebody should have gone over to
the who whoever's iPod was in this system and said, hey,
who's playing? Now? That's what I call music volume made? God,
what the Venga bus wasn't around? Gosh, he was out
of it. Oh my good, Bob, John Ramos, I don't
remember when just exactly wasn't it was, John Lackey. Was
(48:10):
it after like the World Series or like last year? Something?
Fun and nights? It was awesome atmosphere at a night
guys on the see was so awesome and it was
really as part of so just be part of this
and it's pretty cool. Draymond Green at that at that
championship parade, Uh, he's lack. He sounded like he was
(48:34):
doing the third encore at a rock concert. That's what
it sounded like. He sounded like the guy of sling
Blade on some monster with my taters while the Cubs
were celebrating the Nationals and their fans were doing anything.
But we brought this up earlier, we've actually got response
of the moment as a sports fan that still gets you.
(48:56):
And the point of last night's game, there were three
or four situations in Game five that if you're a
Nationals fan, that you will point to that will bother
you some more than others. You mentioned Jason Worth, the
lobit tone being picked off of of second first base
in the eighth inning to end the inning and to
(49:17):
end the Nationals rally was one. I just point to
the Adam Lynd double play on the first pitch from
Way Davis after he walked the first two batters of
the eighth inning, And it's those situations. It isn't the
final out, it isn't Bryce Harper striking out to end
the game that is gonna stick with National fans. It's
stuff that goes on during that game, or moments that
(49:41):
end up changing momentum or changing the tide of the
game that you will never ever get rid of. And
there are so few of them because they stand out.
You can't have ten of these. But there as a
sports fan, you know what I'm talking about. There are
two or three moments that have happened to your favorite teams,
maybe just one to your all time favorite team that
still bothers you to this day that you wish you
(50:02):
could turn around. We got people tweeting in two thousand
three World Series, excuse me, the NLCS with the Gubs
and Marlins. Well that's Steve. I mean, that's not so
much of it. It's just a geek who was sitting
in the front row who decided I need I need
a baseball that's worth of dollar five and uh, and
don't nobody bother me because I'm listening to the game
of my walk Man. That guy's a nurse. Steve Bartman
should never be allowed in this country again. Think about
(50:24):
the Dallas Cowboys in the ups and downs that that
franchise has had a lot of great times but also
a load times. And and I'm wassing tweets in the
Romo botched fumble against like there's that that wasn't an
NFC championship game. There was a wild card game. But
it's those single moments that that stick with you and
bother you, bother you year after year. And national fans
(50:46):
have about three or four to pick from last night
that they will never ever get rid of. What's crazy
about it if you go NFL. So one of the
great documentaries that I've seen in a long time is
the Four Falls of Buffalo. That's on the bills and
there are four runs at the Super Bowl, and you
look back at that and you go, man, first of all,
you look about it get years later and you go,
I don't first of all, I don't care what anybody says.
(51:07):
That team is a dynasty. You get to the super
Bowl four years in Row. I know you didn't win it,
but that's a dynasty for me because that is unprecedented
what they were able to do, especially you look at
today's NFL and how many teams come and go. The
fact that they were that good for that long and
and so close that many times, that's a dynasty for me.
Here's the other part of it too. You ask any
Bills fan a which year bothers you the most, which
(51:30):
one which lost bothers you the most, and they'll always
go back to the first one and Scott Norwood's miss
because they were a foot away from winning the Super Bowl.
They had three other tries after that, but that's still
always going to be the one. So it's like to
your point, you look back at a game and there's
a lot of little things that happen normally, though there's
(51:50):
this one thing that happens, and like you were saying
last night, whether it's worth lobotone trade Turner trying to
score on you know, with one out and the heart
of the lineup up from third in the first inning,
like all the situate, the pass ball, the dead ball,
you know, the air when when weeders through. It's like
all those things happen. Max Scherz are hitting John j
(52:12):
with the bases loaded nowhere close square on the knee,
like all those things that happened in one game. It's
almost it's overwhelming. As a National fan, I would just never,
I wouldn't I wouldn't watch sports, I wouldn't watch TV
for the next forty eight hours. Would have to be
a two part segment of what all went wrong for
the Nationals last night, because there were so many instances
(52:34):
that I think will stick in the minds of Nats fans. Brutal,
brutal loss for the Washington Nationals. But you know, it's
like they say, Dan, good news, A capital's collapse is
just a few months away, all right, So he is

you this, um, half of the comments and remarks made
on Twitter. I want to know if there is a
John Ramos show today. John, can you confirm if there
will be a John Ramo show today? I can't confirm
(54:26):
John Ramo show today. Later on you can. I couldn't
even tell what he said. I thought he said can't,
but I couldn't. I can confess. All right, there it
is ye seventy minutes from not yea seventy minutes. Wow.
I had to do the math. I'm an idiot, by
the way. Chris Plank, Fox Sports Radio legend. Yes, one
(54:48):
of one of the best human beings in the business.
He is driving to Dallas to the Cotton Bowl. He
covers Oklahoma football, as you know, Dan, and he wants
you he'll take our you know he's already gotten off
the air, but he'll take our our answer to this,
you are a college football fiend, Oklahoma by forty fifty
or a hundreds. I'll tell you what I if I
(55:11):
had to big one of the three, I would take forty.
You never know what's gonna happen in the Red River shootout,
which I've got to go to a couple of times,
great great games. I love Baker Mayfield everything and the
great food that they have at the Great State Fair
of Texas. He's one of the great head coaches and
now turn analysts for the NFL Network, joining us thanks
to Seat Geek. Super Bowl champion coach Brian Billick joins
(55:33):
us here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey coach, thanks so
much for coming on. Yeah, good thing. It's uh. Let's
look back to last night's game between the Panthers and Eagles,
because there's so much of a narrative surrounding Cam Newton,
because he is different than other quarterbacks in the NFL,
with his size, with his speed, with his running ability.
(55:54):
How would you as a head coach handle Cam Newton
in a short term or long term situation? Because it
seemed to me last night he was the only option
they had running the ball. Yet this narrative continues that
the Panthers have to figure out a way to protect
Cam Newton. How would you go about the future use
of the quarterback in Carolina? That's the dilemma because he
(56:15):
is such a factor in his ability to run the ball. Now,
obviously they've got with Steward and McAfee, they've got some
good options for them in the running game. But Cam
Newton is a major part of it. The problem is
how much do you want to expose him, as you're
alluding to, how much do you want to expose him
to the hits? And I know Mike surely the offensive
coordinator and round Rivere are very conscious of that. He's
(56:36):
such a dynamic player and obviously with the game online,
you're gonna do whatever you can to score in that
little sixteen yard read option he ran was was fabulous,
but you do have to be conscious of how many
hits he's going to take. Where they're playing really well
is notwithstanding the interceptions last night, is because of that
run threat. Now with McCaffrey and Stewart and and Cam
(56:58):
Newton is uh, you know, you've got to build a
lot of people to stop that box. They're getting a
lot of big plays down the field to Benjamin and Functionous.
Last week it was to Dixon the tight ending at
five receptions for hundred seventy five yards. So they're they're
evolving into a really good, solid offense. But you're right
at the base of it is how many hits do
you want Kim new to have? He is, Brian Bill
(57:20):
like a super Bowl winning head coach here and and
joining us on Fox Sports Radio. You were a really
successful offensive coordinator obviously with the Vikings when when you
were calling plays, How important were in game adjustments for you?
We know what Obviously defensively, they'll try and scheme to
what you guys, you guys put forward, But how important
are those in game adjustments because it feels like the
(57:40):
Panther's offense is sort of what it is and when
they're trailing, they're putting bad spots. Well, some teams are
more built for it than others. Obviously, if you're trailing
and you know there's a minimal loan run threat, the
defenses are going to configure themselves that way. Cam Newton
is not yet established themselves as a Tom Brady or Rogerers,
(58:00):
Aaron Rodgers esque type presence where he can pick you apart.
That way, his forte is going to be able to
make the big plays down the field when you kind
of run, bring them the number count in the box
to kind of stop the run. Uh And and that's
probably the next challenge for him. He's certainly a capable
quarterback in that way. But but with regards to Carolina, yeah,
(58:22):
they're like a lot of teams, you're gonna play better
with the lead. Uh. They have had some good come
from behind wins as well, you know, as as well
as the the ability to play with that firm lead. Uh,
the defense is playing a lot better. The thing they
did last night that was hard on Philadelphia. And give
Philadelphia credit. Philadelphia looks like a really good football team
right now, so losing them on a short week is
(58:43):
not necessarily you know, Uh, harvarder of problems for Carolina
going forward. I think that these two teams could very
easily see each other in the playoffs again. But they've
had a very hot care or Philadelphia team with Carson
Wentz and with the big physics you talk about a
team it is now establishing a physical presence in the
running game with Legarrick Blunt in Philadelphia, and Carson went
(59:06):
to his ability to make a third down, he's been
spectacular on third down and and the big plays as well.
So those are two good teams have played last night.
And and forget this is I I geek out on
stuff like this because I find it fascinating, But how
many how many plays would you script out to start
out a game as an offensive play caller? Well, I
mean you you go back to the original of the
(59:27):
Bill Walsh, you know the twenty five openers, and a
lot of people realize it's not literally the first plays
of the game. It's it is more, Okay, what are
your openers on first down? First down? To start a series?
First down earned, first down, second medium, second, you know,
second short, third down, long, medium, red zone, you first
play on the goal line, that type of thing. But
(59:48):
you're gonna you're gonna script out a certain number of
plays to test out a defense. You're gonna show them, Okay,
if I show this personnel in this formation, whether adjustment
is going to be, and then you're gonna have a
counter to that. Lay They're on the same way. A
defense is going to show you certain pressures, certain coverages,
see what you try to do, and then have counters
to that. So, uh yeah, there's a little bit of
that to like a boxer feeling in each other out
(01:00:10):
early in the early rounds, and then you have at it.
What's the furthest you got in your scripted plays before
you had to call something, difference something Well, I guess
it's the way that it's laid out. I mean, some
games you're lucky, and boy the openers are just golden
and you just whipped through them. A lot of it
has to do without, you know, all of a sudden,
now the other team turns into track meat. They get
a couple of early scores, and now you've got to
(01:00:32):
fold that in your back pocket, you know, try to
catch up. So uh, yeah, there have been some games
good and some games not so good. Brian Billick joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm
Dan Buyer or in for Doug Gottlieb today, of course,
coach Billick, a Super Bowl champ and now analysts with
the NFL Network. I want to ask your opinion on
what is going to happen in Oakland on Sunday just
(01:00:53):
because of the wildfires, and to just look at it
from a football perspective, which I know is narrow minded, coach,
but would you have any con earn if you're a
Chargers team or a Raiders team playing in an atmosphere
where the air quality could be dangerous for not only
your team, but but for the fans involved. How much
does a coach get involved in that sort of thing,
and how much should a coach get involved and that
(01:01:13):
sort of decision. Well, that's you know, when it comes
to the welfare of your team, that you're obviously going
to be involved, but that that's that's got a s.
Decisions can be made at a higher level in terms
of the safety and the health that is paramount both
the fans and the players themselves. Someone at a higher
pay grade than the coach is going to have to
make the determination that it's not healthy or that it
is acceptable, and then where do you go from there?
(01:01:35):
How do you adjust to it? So the league, it's
no different than obviously with the hurricanes and the water
damage to Florida and having to adjust to it. This
is the same way. You know, they don't want anybody
to be risked. They don't want to test the infrastructure, uh,
in terms of making difficult in terms of the fans
coming and going. So I'm sure the league and the
higher ups in in Oakland are going to make those
(01:01:56):
decisions with with your situation. But fifteen years back in
Philadelphia when you were the head coach of the Ravens
at that time, with the turf. I know it's different.
What what how did that play out? Because you guys
are supposed to play a preseason game and the turf
was in shambles. How did that play out with you
guys in your input to a game like that? Yeah,
just as I was coming out, a couple of the
players that coach this field, we can't play on this
(01:02:16):
field and what are you guys talking about? Because you
know it was the old net It was a terrible field. Anyway,
I thought we had you just complaining about an old,
old stadium because no coach this thing is not safe.
So they went out and they showed me and it
was horrendous. They when because they had played baseball game
the previous night and there are huge scenes. I mean,
someone would have gotten seriously hurt. And so we brought
up the attention of the officials and the Eagles. They
(01:02:38):
agreed and said, you know, okay, what can be done?
And Luri tried to get you know, as best he could.
They were trying to fill it and it just wasn't
gonna happen. So the interesting thing was, so we go
into the officials locker room and it's Mr. Lourie and
Andy and me and David Modell and trying to decide, Okay,
you know what are we gonna do here? Well, the
officials said, well, we cannot. We can not suspend again.
(01:03:01):
We can't cancel a game. We can suspend it, but
you know we need a higher up authority to actually
suspend a game. So we go down in the locker
room and there's a manual. They have four inch stick
manual they have with them and you open up to
the league number. There were ten numbers that we called
not an answer to single one of them said okay,
(01:03:25):
it's like do they know we're playing tonight or what?
So Mr Lurie said, okay, look I'll take I'll take
sponsibility for this. This is on being we're canceling the game,
which was the right thing to do. He's Brian Villix,
super Bowl head. It's a carpet place, maybe one of
the numbers and attorney, Yeah, who is this? Genos? What
(01:03:47):
do you want? Coach? I know you're teaming up with
geek a great place to get tickets to a lot
of different events. Tell us a little bit more about
seek Yeah with the NFL and full blown uh, going
full stoke and then you got the NBA starting up soon,
major League Baseball in the playoffs, or it's just theater tickets.
If you go to seat geek dot com. Best of all,
(01:04:09):
get the sake gap and it's phenomenal. It's very easy
to work. He'll show you exactly where the seats are,
telling what kind of value you're getting on a rating system.
Best thing about sea dot got dot com every transaction
guaranteed and if you use the promo code, Bill like,
how about that, I'm a promo coach. Alright, you get
twenty dollars off your first transaction. That's b I L
(01:04:30):
L I C promo code. I'd rather have that than
a super Bowl. It's right up there with being a
super Bowl. There it is. Get him on Twitter at
coach Billy Brian Bill like, thanks so much, coach. Enjoy
Week six you too. He is Dan Byron Jonas Nicks.
That's funny. I forgot about that game. The turf was soode.
It's amazing. Remember was that was that on in the
(01:04:53):
vent Yes? Yes, and they still continue to play on
that field. Just awful, so extremely awful. Well, Andre Dawson
says that playing um yeah and Montreal and the turf
they're destroyed. His knees probably probably cost him. Who knows
how many years he was a great player, but by
the time he came over to the Cubs, like his
(01:05:14):
knees that had so much damage just from playing on
the turf. So all right, So he's Dan Byro. I'm
Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio.
You can listen to. The show is always on the
I Heart Radio app and Sirius XM channel AD three.
You saw one of the most ridiculous overreactions over just
a harmless question, a harmless question in the world of
(01:05:35):
sports last night. We'll tell you exactly what that was next.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports,
it is Steve to say good afternoon again. The forty
Niners have a released veteran linebacker Navarro Bowman after trying
to trade him. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, with his bad hamstring,
did practice again today and Tennessee doesn't play until Monday
night against the Colts. Minnesota quarterback Sam Bradford is out
(01:05:57):
this week as his Vikings wide receiver Stephen Bigs due
to injury. The Panthers say linebacker luke Keickley is fine
today despite last night's concussion. The Panthers do say they've
identified that fan from last night's fight in the stands
on video, and they're working with local police to pursue charges.
The Cubs airplane to l A was diverted overnight after
a family member fell ill and was sent to the hospital.
(01:06:19):
Game one Cubs at Dodgers Saturday night in l A
to start the NLCS game to their Sunday night FS
one has Game one of the a L Championship Series.
Yankees at Houston tonight. Houston's d H this evening will
be Carlos Beltron. Matt Holiday will start for New York
as designated hitter. He has yet to play this postseason.
Holiday batted one thirty in July, but at one sixty
(01:06:40):
seven in August. He has a batting average of two
thirty seven since then. Masahiro Tanaka will start against Dallas Kaiko.
The n C double A says it will not punish
North Carolina for its academic scandal, saying it could not
conclude that rules were violated. College sports governing body did
not dispute that major academic fraud our and saying athlete. Yeah,
it's likely benefited from paper courses. The problem, guys, says
(01:07:04):
the n c a A, is it it is powerless
to punish them for easy courses that maybe for all students,
not just for athletes. I'd say applications at University of
North Carolina a chapel hill, now going through the roof.
Why not knowing what the course load could be? He yeah,
emphasis unloading quotes there. You know what, Roy, you explain
(01:07:25):
to us why you shouldn't be punished. Well, we didn't
get hookers. Well he's got a point, all right, Well
let him go. We'll slap on the wrist. That works.
I have a coupon that I got today at a
grocery store that's on the back of the receipt from
the grocery store that I think is worth more than
a diploma from the University of North Carolina. No, I
think it is. And it's for dry cleaning. Yeah, they
(01:07:45):
teamed up with the local dry cleaner. Yeah, no, it's true.
It's true. That is. By the way, if you are
a North Carolina fan or grad and you're upset with
what Dan just had to say, you can get him
on Twitter at j S Ramos m Magnificent. Steve mentioned
the Alcs starting tonight on Fox Sports One with the
(01:08:06):
Yankees and Astro's playing in Houston. Of course, the National
League Championship Series will finally begin on Saturday with the
Cubs and Dodgers. But this after last night's epic Game
five in the National League Divisional Series that saw the
Cubs defeat the Nationals nine to eight in the game
that actually ended this morning on the East Coast. And
(01:08:27):
for as great as it was on the field to
see all the ups and downs, Jonas, the locker room
also provided a lot of ups and downs as well,
as we got quite a kick earlier from John Lester
of the Chicago Cubs and uh what he thought of
Wade Davis's outing last night when he only saw three outs.
But there's also a loser's locker room last night that
gained some note ry. Absolutely, we have got actually two
(01:08:49):
elements to this, to this segment here, okay, So we
have more John Lester, even more hammered than the previous Okay,
So you can either choose to choose that one or
we can go to the loser's locker room right now,
Which would you prefer to um, I would like to
I would like to hear more Lester first, just because
because we've already started down that tren. So here's more.
John Lester, completely sober after the game last night, playing
(01:09:12):
flight tonight. What's it about five six hours? Who know,
it's probably you know, it's always gonna be you know,
peaches and roses or however. The saying goes, I love
watching guys. That's really cool. Who's doing that? I hate
you don't get that on the air, yeah, I mean, hell,
I'll put it on there. I don't know, And um
(01:09:35):
I did. I did appreciate that. Love our young guys.
Our guys are so cocky that they don't give it,
you know what I mean? Like, I'm sorry, apologize, John.
You've been in winning clubhouses before. What makes this winning
clubhouse a special one? Winning? Fair enough? All right? Okay,
(01:09:58):
I get the let's get the overall feel, but not
when a guy has got to be a ce of
you know, point two right now? I mean, like, come
on here, this is what what makes this clubhouse so different?
And Lester is thinking that there's six reporters in front
of them when there's only two. Like that that question,
(01:10:19):
all right, let's just let's just move on from that.
Have you asked a regrettable question in a post game
situation in your career? Have you asked one where you
said really stupid questions before? Like what was the worst?
Not in a post game. It was the Super Bowl
Media day when it was Super Bowl forty, when the
(01:10:39):
Steelers and Seahawks were playing in Detroit and Joey Porter
was in a world words with Jeremy Stevens. So I
asked Joey Porter a question. He came back with a
question to me that I couldn't answer, and then everybody laughed.
So that's that was. And I wasn't the media dork.
I wasn't prepared for Joey Porter to ask a question,
(01:11:00):
which it was perfect for him because he turned the tables,
but I just didn't have any response while I was
putting my place. Well you actually, cam, we're not even
done yet, okay before you end. Uh it's but it
did work out in your favor because we were doing
a show here at Fox Sports Radio when Joey Porter
was being handcuffed for beating up a bouncer in Pittsburgh.
So you kind of won that battle. I would call
(01:11:22):
that a win for Dan Buyer. Just years later he
got my word, my worst question ever asked was after
a game, as the celebration was going on. I said,
uh a, Josh Hamilton's can I buy you a drink?
And what? That wasn't like that? That wasn't Jonas, come on,
(01:11:46):
keep it, keep it clean, family show. That wasn't wash golly, So,
sorry for offering some booze. Um no, but here's here's
my my issue. Al Right, So last night after the
game game, a reporter asked Bryce Harper, after some several
questions about what's going on with the team, you know,
(01:12:07):
how disappointed are you? What happens with Dusty all this stuff?
A reporter asked the question, that is, what is your
as you look ahead to Cubs Dodgers? What's you're feeling
on that series? And he just got, I don't know what.
I didn't really have an issue with it. He's looking
ahead like I didn't. I didn't think it was that egregious.
And Casey Stern, who is the studio host for TBS,
(01:12:31):
decided to lay waste to the reporter that asked that question,
then went on to Twitter and said he should have
his credential taken away or na a lot. First of all,
stop trying to be loud outrageous, guys, so that the players,
the ex players that you're sitting next to it while
you're doing this postgame show think you're cool. Stop stop
(01:12:52):
trying so hard. It was a harmless question. There was
no malice attached to it. They weren't trying to to
to bust his balls about not advancing. They wanted to
get his thoughts because he's played both teams during the season.
How he thinks that'll that'll go. You see it in
post fight interviews all the time. You know there's a
fight coming up, How do you see that matchup? Playing
like it wasn't that big of a deal. But he
(01:13:13):
used that stage to grandstand, probably because he didn't have
any other material to work with on the show. Let's
hear how he played out less than on TBS and
he thoughts on how not really looking looking atords at all.
Let me tell you something, you guys, players talk about players.
I don't know who that member of the media was.
You do not ask a player who, after eighteen days
(01:13:36):
off all season, just lost his season what he thinks
about the next series. The quote Bryce Harper, that's a
cloud cloud question. That is a disgrace clown question. Bro, Yeah,
boy boy, what what a jerk that reporter is. That's
one of those like the nerds hanging out behind all
the jocks and they're about to get in a fight
and the nerd goes, yeah, we're gonna kick your ass. Right, guys, Like,
(01:14:00):
what are you doing? It wasn't that big of a deal, Like,
are you looking to fill a segment? Okay, trust me,
we do like four of those on this show, just
like come up with something better. Wasn't that big of
a deal. And it just to use that stage to
grandstand because the guy asked a question. It's ridiculous. Who cares.
The fact is there are media members who have different
duties from cover things. Whether it's a good question or
(01:14:23):
bad question, they still have the right to ask the question.
The other point is, and I this is how I've
always felt from the media side of things, Jonas, I
would rather be asked what I think about the Cubs
and Dodgers? Then why did you swing on that ball
four to make the final out of the ball game?
Like if you're a player like like like that would
be that would be more offensive to me than Cubs Dodgers.
(01:14:45):
And I know that the timing may not be the
best because it was right after the game, But the
fact is is that there are there are a million
reasons why a credential should be revoked before that question
being asked. It's actually harmless, and even though Harper may
not be in the mood for it, it's better than
asking what about love it's own sliding into to the
(01:15:05):
first base? Do you guys ever do sliding practices in
spring training or exercises to get better at that? What
about Matt? You could have asked all of those questions,
Yet this is supposed to get a guy's credential. Do
you think something's wrong with your mit? Their readers like,
it wasn't that bad, and you're right because if this
(01:15:26):
may be the only access they've got for a couple
of days. So sometimes reporters will ask questions that they'll
use in different pieces that they write. So they may
be writing a recap piece of the game, or they
may be writing a preview piece and they can revert
back to one of the questions they asked Bryce Harper.
Because there's not that much availability except for after games,
(01:15:46):
and they're not playing again for several months. When talking
to Bryce Harper about the game and this series coming up,
here's what he had to say, Like, it wasn't that egregious.
It's just it's a guy trying to use the stage
to rand stand. He wants to be Ernie Johnson, but
he's not. He wants to be friendly with all the players.
They don't care about you. Stop dorking up for all
(01:16:07):
these players and acting like you're a part of the story.
Just relax. It was a harmless question. Don't grandstand on
that kind of stage. Big of a deal. I'd rather
hear him say who he's got in the sixth race
at Santa Anna. That could have been one as well. Yes,
that could have been just as harmless, and then you
would have just brought out Bryce Harper's gambling issue. Who
(01:16:28):
does he like? He likes John Ramo show. Okay, uh
so that is Dan Buyer. I am Jonas Knox in
for Doug Gottlie Pierre Fox Sports Radio. You can listen
to the show on the I Heart Radio app and
on Sirius x M channel Lady three. You can get
me at the Jonas Knox here up next there is.
(01:16:48):
There was some interesting conversations that were had about two
major issues in the world of sports. Right these are
exclusive only to Fox Sports Radio and we'll have those
for you next b k Al edition. I'm Dan Buyer,
that's Jonas Knox, he is Johnny Ramos. Doug was busy today.
That's why we have taken over the airwaves for um
(01:17:09):
here on fs ARE. Doug was busy doing work for
a Fox Sports one and also in for Colin Cowherd
today on The Herd on Fox Sports Radio. And I
guess that leads us to so we're gonna check out
what Doug had to say today on Colin Cowherd and
The Herd on Fox Sports Radio about the Washington Nationals
(01:17:30):
and Jonas another choke in d C. The Nationals come
up short in the playoffs. Oh, it does feel like
groundhog Day yet again. Right. I feel like I'm Bill
Murray and these things just keep happening around themselves and
easy baseball fan. That obviously means Clayton Kershaw will choke
somewhere in the seventh inning for the Dodgers this weekend
or in the NLCS. Okay, okay, that's the harsh words
(01:17:56):
from Doug. But he's he's right about the Nationals. And
this is the part where I think it's got that
has got to be so frustrating as a Nationals fan.
You know where they're broken, you know where there are issues,
but somehow you can't fix it and it doesn't And
I'm talking about a bullpen that there. Remember they brought
(01:18:19):
in Jonathan papal Bond, they removed Through Storing from the position.
They had Mark Mellansen in there at the time. I mean,
Storing had opportunities. They can never get the bullpen right.
You have got three of the top twenty pitchers in
all of baseball, maybe even two of the top ten
or five, and Steven Strasburg and Max Suzer. You have
got a lineup with one of the best young hitters
(01:18:39):
and best hitters in baseball, surrounded by other guys that
can hit Jonas and yet you can't even win a
playoff series. That has got to be the most frustrating point.
If I'm a Nation I knew they were screwed. Where
after the play that happened with Weeders, it should have
been a dead ball or a pass ball or bad
I mean, what just that with that whole inning was
a disaster. There was a point where Shuzer and Leaders,
(01:19:02):
We're talking to each other and it was like sus
been in the league for years, Leaders have been in
the league for years, and it was like they were
both looking at each other, going, what do we do now.
It's like that the moment was too big for those guys.
I really think that it started to unravel and they
turned into the Cubs from two thousand three, like they
(01:19:24):
It's like, all of a sudden, the Cubs, for the
first time in the history of the franchise, had that
championship pedigree, had their balls and just said, listen, this
is who we are. We're gonna win this game. You
guys are rattled, and we do not care and this
is and and to carry it on with what Doug said. Now,
if you've got a Cubs team that's coming in with
the we don't care there, I don't want to say
(01:19:45):
that they're they're playing with house money, but they've been
there before. They've been there. The question is about the Dodgers,
and Doug brings up Okay, the Dodgers may be ready
for another joke. Again, I differ in that opinion just
because I think hitting wise, this is a different team.
They've never had a Cody Bellinger type in these clutch situations.
They haven't had a Corey Sieger type. You've had veterans
(01:20:07):
that maybe haven't come through in the clutch. Clenton Kershaw
has even had better postseason outings and his and his
seemed to shed that label of being a postseason failure.
I think this is a different Dodgers team that is
built with the batting order. I know that the bullpend
can give you questions before Kenley Jansen, but I just
I don't agree with that another collapses in order, just
because I think there's different faces in that line. Uh football. Yeah,
(01:20:37):
let's see what Doug said about last nights Thursday Night affair,
Cam Newton with his counterpart Carson Wentz, who's in only
his second year as a starting quarterback. If you would
have asked somebody who parachuted in from out of space,
which one of these two guys has been an m
v P in the National Football League, I kind of
think you might have thought Wentz would be the answer.
(01:20:58):
I disagree because if your parish woting, I think that
your mind is so distracted by a lot of different things.
So I don't even know if you can give a
clearancewer I understand. I understand his point for what Carson
Wentz was able to do last night and looking better.
I just think that that with carol lineup, you thought
(01:21:18):
maybe they took a step with the Lions, but when
you saw it, just on how the report that Cam
doesn't have with his other guys. I mean, this is
a team too that has has lost Greg Olsen is
his safety valve. There are different guys. At least during
the the the Super Bowl run, he was able to
develop a rapport with the likes of a guy like
Ted Gann or Philly Brown and different players. It seems
(01:21:39):
like his connections with his wide receivers right now just
not there and and the ball seems to be going
all over the the command of the huddle. There were
times in the fourth quarter where players are having to
tell him, hey man, the clock's winding down. We gotta
go like what are we doing here? So yeah, it's
very very bizarre situation. By the way, we are brought
to you by Farmers, and at Farmers we know a
(01:22:01):
thing or two because we've seen a thing or two
like how to help so you can make sure you're
ready for some of life's unexpected hazards. Stay ahead of
the game with tips from a knowledgeable pro at Farmers
dot Com. Sorry, sorry, let me let me do that again?
Can I hear that one more time? John R forty
(01:22:23):
Niners man who moved today? Navarra Bowman no longer a
forty Niners? Oh, by the way, did you hear? And
Johnny Ramos? As well. As we are thirty minutes away
from a brand new edition of The John Ramos Show,
we're also a few hours away from Game one of
the American League Championship Series. Unfoxed Sports one is the
Yankees and Massa Heiro Tanaka take on Dallas Kaiko in
(01:22:45):
the Houston Astros in Game one. I was worried about this,
jonas I I think that the Yankees have a different
field than maybe be four of other Yankee teams. But
I just feel that Houston is going to steamroll through
the series and go to the World Series. And I
just want to see I realized, just want to see
competitive baseball, whether it doesn't have to be great, as
long as it's competitive and drama, just like we had
(01:23:06):
last night with the Nationals and Cups. Yeah, and it's Fox.
So you wanted to go seven games because it's more
and more money. So so for selfish purposes, you wanted
to go seven games and just be be exciting towards
the end. And also if if Aaron Judge could just
make contact, I mean foul one off, even that would
(01:23:26):
work too. He's it's to the point where he was
an automatic out in that series. Like it was all right,
so this guy is seven ft eight, so let's just
throw him sliders and see what happens. No problem, and
it worked. In fact, it got so bad major League
Baseball was going to use the intentional walk rule on
just strikeouts for Aaron ud alight, strat out. Let's move
(01:23:49):
it along after Gardner Judge, alright, just step up and
you don't even have to come out of the dugout.
Just just stay in there. Um, Aaron Judges hitting in
the postseason so far is ugly. I just put it
that way. It's ugly, But is it uglier than what
we have got here on this Friday, thet weekend, jonas
(01:24:11):
it is Friday, and college football in the National Football
League have given us some dandies on this gory weekend.
It's been a bad couple of weeks for college football.
Let's be honest here, Okay, college football hasn't exactly wheeled
out some of their top hits. They had one week
were four or five games were going on all at once,
(01:24:32):
and then the next week you've got like two Lane
and Blair State. I don't even know Blair States to college.
I don't know why that name popped in my head.
But do were they at Blair Warner? That was facts
of life that I get it. John Ramos got it.
John Ramos knew exactly who I was talking about. This
is what you're gonna get though, Jonas. Now as is it?
(01:24:56):
By the way, is this the front of the thirteenth
movie music? It? Yes, the original theme from Friday Night.
By the way, little house cleaning here because Halloween is
coming up. They've got pumpkin spice coffee in the kitchen
over there. Not bad, also not good. So just just
to set your expectations at the right place, middle of
(01:25:17):
the road. What was your favorite Friday the Thirteenth movie? John,
I enjoyed the second movie, Uh, Friday Thirteenth Part two.
I've never seen any of them. I don't know any
of them at all. But I just know Friday the
thirteenth and them today being a big, superstitious day in
a spooky day. The NFL schedule it only college football,
(01:25:39):
um is not giving us much to be happy about.
The scariest horror movie of all time. Dan, for you,
I don't because I would say the Nationals fifth inning,
so that would be me. But again, what do I
not tell you what when you when you're when you're
six years old and you see Thriller and yeah, you
know that was it, I'm like, that's probably not my thing,
and then you find out later he probably should have
been scared of. What matchups should we be scared of
(01:26:06):
in college football this weekend? Because they're there are some Danny,
you know where you know what. I blame it on Jonas.
I blame it on the rain, not on the rain
or Milli Vanilly. I blame it on on the golf
fans who are listening to this show right now and
(01:26:29):
their applause. I blame it on the fact of now
we've got nine conference games in college football, and there's
always been this thought that, you know what, why should
why should the big big schools end up playing these
small schools? These are awful games to go to. They're
just as awful jonas when you have to play more
bad teams from your conference. Most conferences aren't loaded with
(01:26:51):
eight really good schools, so you're adding a bonus game
to your schedule. So now with like the Big Ted
expanding to nine games, and it's something that the packed
wave has gone to. It's not like you're adding a
top five or a top ten team. You're adding a
newer team. You're adding a a a new school that
you wouldn't maybe play or a team that you wouldn't
play as often. But it's not like you're getting another
top ten team to come to town. And so now
(01:27:15):
you just get kind of a lot of blah conference games.
We always talked about the last weekend really of non
conference football, which is the end of September. That's changed
a little bit because of the nine conference games that
you've got. Now the strickles into October when there just
aren't that many appealing college football games, because let's just
(01:27:35):
be honest, there aren't that many appealing college football teams
in college football. It just feels like they could have
done they could have done something different, you know, and
and and by the whole point on and they go, oh,
they make this big production about the first weekend of
college football, how it's such a big deal. Man, we
got college football and it's man, this is this is
a huge deal and we're back baby, and look everybody,
(01:27:56):
we're bad and it's like, you know, and we and
I made comments about how the actual first weekend of
college football was was garbage. It was like Utah State
playing and all that, and I was like, oh, the
year before they had all these great games and they
bled into Labor Day and all and and now I
look back at it and I go, you know, maybe
they had it right this year. Maybe it should have
(01:28:16):
been we allowed whoever you could, we allowed on the
first week. But that includes everybody, no matter who they play,
non conference opponents, Fordham, uh, you know whoever that that
these teams, old dominions, some of these teams that they play,
because we'll take anything. At that point, we haven't had
football forever. So instead of stacking all these great games
up in one week, space it out throughout the course
(01:28:37):
of the regular season Week two, okay, and a lot
of these games were going on at the same time. Oklahoma,
Ohio State, Auburn, Clemson, Stanford, USC. You had great games
all over the Georgia, Notre Dame, like all these games
were taking place, but they were all at the same time,
Like you couldn't stagger these or like move them around
(01:28:57):
throughout the course of the season. And I know it's
tough because the rankings, so I just think they could
have done a better job. Perfect example of what you
pointed out there is the Stanford USC game. Because if
you look at the pack twelve, how many good teams
are in the pack twelve. Let's say Washington, Washington State.
We'll put Stanford in that conversation, and USC, U, C
(01:29:19):
l A, and Oregon get attention, but they're not a
musty right now. They're not musty in college football. So
you have got four schools maximum jonas that that you
can watch. That means that you've got three matchups for
Washington State, you would think, but maybe Washington State doesn't
play a USC, which they ended up doing. You don't
have the cross division rivalry, so the matchups that you
(01:29:41):
would have are less and lesson when you have conferences
that schedule separately as well that they're the SEC is
doing their own schedule, The A C, C remember, has
set out a conference schedule that is set to that
is true, like they have set up the matchups that
go out eighteen years from now. So the Big Ten,
the Big Twelve, the SEC, and the Pac twelve are
(01:30:03):
all doing their games separately. That's where you get the
problems that that you see where there's there's really only
a select number of marquee games and then when you
move them all tonight because you want him in that
primetime window, it's really a disservice to college football fans.
So the a c C already knows what each team
is playing within conference for the next eighteen years there
(01:30:26):
as part of their deal. And this happens with Notre
Dame coming in because you need to know who Notre
Dame is going to play. And that's where a lot
of these schools, because Notre Dame is gonna play five
football games a year with the a c C, they
have set out the schedule all the way through. Say
take let's just take Notre Dame for example. We know
(01:30:46):
in twent that Notre Dame is gonna be at Virginia
home to Boston College, at Louisville home against Duke, and
at North Carolinas. So you don't know who's gonna be good.
Then yeah, no, and you have there's no Miami, there's
no Florida State, and that that's another thing that you've
got because you've got across the Notre Dame is not
in the a c C. But you're only picking select
(01:31:07):
schools that you're playing from that league. And now every
one of those schools of the SEC wants to play
Notre Dame because it's beneficial for them, So they're on
the schedule and it's a full true rotation. That's how
you get in some of this mess. I know it
can be really confusing, but every league doing their own
sort of thing. And really, when there's only three or
four good teams, really good teams in each league, you
(01:31:28):
get weekends like this, Yeah it's and they've had a
couple of these bad weekends and we say that, and
it's you're still gonna get good games Like Iowa wasn't
a ranked team when they played Penn State, but that
was one of the better football games I've seen in
a long time, to where McSorley goes down the field
last second drive, like just the the excitement there. That
was prime time you know, going on live like that
(01:31:50):
was really really fun to watch. So it doesn't mean
that these games just because we're looking at ranked teams
against non right teams, it doesn't mean these games are
gonna be bad. There may be some good games this weekend. Listen,
and we you know, talked about Chris Plank, our Fox
Sports Radio brother here. He works for Oklahoma. He does
sidelines and as a reporter for Oklahoma and he's a
host for the Oklahoma Sooners. They're playing Texas. That's always
(01:32:12):
at least an intriguing game, especially because you never know
a whether Baker Mayfield is going to stick a flag
at the fifty yard line, b tell the opponent that
he's going to remind them who Daddy is this week,
or see get tackled by police with food on his
share drunk. You never know which Baker Mayfield you're gonna get,
So that's always exciting. And you never know what Texas
(01:32:34):
team is going to show up as well. And a
little later kickoff they're doing at a three thirty Eastern
time kickoff. I always like the noon Eastern time. Then
if you go to the State Fair of Texas, you
have more of the day to do things when you
when you're in Dallas. By the way, did you um
hear about the best of Show? I guess if you will?
For the State Fair of Texas that did you hear
(01:32:55):
about this? You know? Each year they have their menu
items that they present and they have a contest. The
State Fair of Texas Big Text Choice Awards winner this
year for the are you ready for this? For the
best taste and most creative item at the State Fair
of Texas is the funnel cake bacon case Burger. So
(01:33:18):
it is a funnel cake with a Hamburger patty case
in bacon in between. That would be your winner that
you can get at the State Fair of Texas. Why
don't you just eat a dead body? It's seriously, just
think you're just just put okay to me. That's enough. Um.
(01:33:42):
The tomal donut was another molly don't is that that's
a Tomali shaped and a donut sounds like a position.
And another one that just didn't make the cut deep
fried chicken noodle soup on a stick. By the way,
interesting sidebar, and I don't know this is breaking news.
Interesting sidebar. You know how Texas uses their slogan their
(01:34:06):
slogan is hook them at Louisville. They've changed their as
to hooker. They didn't I thought they did, you know,
I don't know if that was okay. I don't Jonas,
I don't think that was official. I don't think that
was official that they did that. Sorry, sir, I don't
(01:34:27):
know how to follow up Deep Fried, dead Bodies or Hookers.
So I'm gonna let jonp Yeah, I got it, I
got it, Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks here Fox Sport Trading.
I'm just reading the teleprompter. Dan. Robert Gierre, our executive producer,
put that on the screen. I'm reading it. So I
don't know why I need to get the grief for it,
but I will take it. No ranked teams playing each
other this week, I believe that's always good. It always
(01:34:48):
gets people really fired up to want to watch these games.
Um all right, So you can get Dan on Twitter
at Dan Buyer on Fox. You can get me at
the Jonas Knox uh we are. You can listen to
the show as always on Fox Sports Radio dot Com,
on the I Heart Radio app, as well up next
here on Fox Sports Radio as we are in for
Doug gottlieb Um, one of the more powerful men in
(01:35:09):
all of the NFL is now complaining about a situation
involving one of his best players. You'll hear it is
the Doug Gottlieb Show, but no Doug today. He's Jonas Knocks.
I'm Dan Bayer. That is John Ramos. I love this
song track six stand. I know, I know, how about
how can you never say like we love this song?
(01:35:30):
You never you never say that, You never say because
you know we've exchanged many stories about this song and
this album, but this is always an I love this song,
you think, I said. I. I said, yeah, I just
I thought it was something that we could join into
and enjoy, that this would be something that I I.
(01:35:50):
When I say I, it means I'm so we're so attached,
like we're actually doing the show holding each other right now.
We actually I'm just talking. I probably have more in
common with you music wise than I do with John Ramos,
because John Ramos is more of them, more of the classics.
I would say Beatles, yeah, that that sort of thing.
He's a big too short fan. But I said, I
(01:36:13):
have more in common with you than I would have
John Ramos. Yeah, that is um, we love that song, Dan,
the wedding album from Derander. It's a great song, an
ordinary world. Another hit off off of that track track too, Yeah,
track to track you don't skip them, Yeah, you don't
need and you don't need bass boost when you're listening
(01:36:33):
to that album. It sounds perfect as it is. Things
aren't perfect for the Dallas Cowboys. They are as jon
Is predicted. They you know they're not gonna lose this week.
In Psychic he saw that the Dallas Cowboys don't play
this weekend. They are on by, and that means Ezekiel
elliott six games suspension really would go into effect in
week seven. However, now Ezekiel Elliott's six game band is
(01:36:56):
in place, so he can't really be with the team
even though they're on by. It doesn't make a lot
of sense, but the fact is Ezekiel Elliott is on
suspension now after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in
New Orleans yesterday voted two to one to remove the
preliminary injunction that put a hold on a six game ban.
With all that being said, let's let Jerry Jones say
(01:37:16):
what he feels about Ezekiel Elliott in the case that
he is facing with all of the facts in the
detail of this case so done. I guess said that
they did not get pretty fairly here. That was um,
that was ship's on care L D one oh five three,
(01:37:40):
the ban in Dallas as Jerry was UFO Radio. He
was on Mars when getting that transmission. But this is
this is what gets mean, This is the this is
really what what's at the the base of all this.
Yesterday's ruling with Ezekiel Elliott had nothing to do with
(01:38:03):
him striking or not striking his ex girlfriend. It had
nothing to do with that. The court ruled that the
NFL Players Association filed their appeal too soon in trying
to stop the proceedings. What they said was that the
NFL Players Association, and I know this is confusing, and
(01:38:25):
I don't want to confuse people, but it isn't about
yesterday had nothing to do with whether Ezekiel Elliott hit
or did not hit his girlfriend. All yesterday did was
say that the Players Association did not exhaust all of
their options, meaning that they filed too soon before Harold
Henderson's ruling came out. And that to me, Jonas is
(01:38:48):
what is going on here. There's just a lot of
different steps. It's like, you know, when you're watching crime stories,
you're you're hearing the O J case and't you're trying to,
you know, poke holes in the prosecution and find out
all the miss that happened. One of the missteps that
the NFL p A did was filing too soon before
a ruling was announced. Well, the reason they filed too
soon is because they wanted to make sure Ezekiel Elliott
(01:39:09):
could actually play for the Cowboys in Week one. But
that's all that yesterday did. So anything that is happening,
whether Jerry Jones, I know is frustrated with what is happening,
but it has nothing to do whether he did or
didn't hit hurt it his girlfriend that it has nothing
to do with that. Right now, it's all procedural stuff.
It's yeah, and it's procedural stuff that most people don't get.
And I think everybody looks at this is okay, so
(01:39:31):
what's the end result because it's like the NFL always says,
we want to do what's what's best for the fans.
Right it's all about the fans, the fan experience. Okay,
you know what fans want to know, Hey, is he
gonna be available? For my fantasy team next week. That's
that's it. Like, seriously, figure this out in the off
season if need be, like there should be. You'll hear
this sometimes to where teams will say, we won't we
(01:39:53):
won't talk contracts during the season, we won't talk about
an extension during the season. Okay, then don't talk about
a suspension after it's already been appealed and they take
away the six games during the season. He plays the season,
and then you deal with it in the off season.
Because this has been a total distraction for the Cowboys,
There's been people close to Dallas who have said Ezekiel
(01:40:14):
Elliott is completely distracted by this. He doesn't look like
the same player he was last year. He looks like
he's kind of out of shape and like he's trying
to get into game shape. And we're, you know, coming
up on the halfway point of the season in a
couple of weeks, and now he's not going to play
for six games. And then there's talking, well, what if
they go to the NFL and they say, hey, well
we'll accept you know, a shorter punishment. That's not going
(01:40:36):
to happen. The Cowboys are not going to cave like that,
and neither is Elliott. It's it's it's why when the
NFL decided and when Roger Goodell decided they wanted to
get into the law portion of it and the discipline
portion of it, it started becoming public information news for
everybody to to take in. When the reality is us
as media and fans, all we want to know is
(01:40:59):
whether or not the is gonna play and if not,
who is That's it. They go down a slippery slope
as well if you start trimming off games from a
domestic violence policy, because then you're all of a sudden saying, okay, well,
if you don't hit as much, or if you don't
abuse someone as much, you're gonna get this game, this
amount of games or that games. So they've got to
sit by their six games suspension. The Cowboys and really
(01:41:21):
the NFL Players Association are in a spot, and it
was talked a lot yesterday in the NFL network is
as if this suspension begins, you can never get that back.
It's not like it's money, it's not like it's something
that can be returned to you. And that's to your
point about this going in the off season, is this
is going on in the season and now the Cowboys
(01:41:41):
are lucky. And it may not be a coincidence that
the ruling came down during a Cowboys by week to
allow the NFL Players Association to at least figure out
their next step to allow him to play. But the
fact is is that once you start this suspension, Ezekiel
Elliott will never get that game back or those games,
whether he's innocent or guilty or however it plays out.
(01:42:03):
You can't just retroactively be like, you know what, we're
gonna play that Week eight game, um here in January
before the wild card game, We're gonna do that one over.
Because there is no that doesn't happen, and that's where
you get it's such a dangerous spot and these these
court filings tour as well because of the power that
the Collective Bargaining Agreement has given Roger Goodell and has
given the NFL owners to impose on the players, which
(01:42:25):
is something that needs to change in the next couple
of years because this will just continue to continue to
go on because the process just doesn't benefit the players
Association whatsoever. Okay, you do shows here on the weekend
at Fox Sports Radio every single weekend we've been doing
this show filling in for the last couple of years.
Gonna be honest, man, I'm worn out with this crap.
(01:42:48):
I'm tired of talking about legalities. I'm tired of talking
about protests. I'm tired of politics being mixed in and
and I and I don't want to speak for majority.
I try never to do that, but I would venture
to get At this point in time, a large percentage
of NFL fans just want to know who's playing, who's
not playing, When did the game start? And that's it.
(01:43:09):
And it's like the NFL continues to compound the problem
by by you know, getting into the legal matters and
then delaying punishments, and then this stip you know, certain
games come out, but they can't do that because they've
already said it's six. It's it's frustrating, like we're we
would be so much more fun to just be able
to talk about what's happening. What do the Cowboys need
(01:43:32):
to do on a bye week to try and get
ready to turn their season around? And instead we're having
and it's we're just we're doing our job. It's not
our faults. But it's like the NFL made the decision
to get involved in this stuff, and now everybody's having
to pay for it, and some to some expense. I
do think there's a difference, though, between what we've got
with Ezekiel Elliott and Tom Brady than what we have
with protests, and I think that they're they're separate, completely
(01:43:54):
separate issues for grabbing people's attention. I am I am
sick and tired of figuring out when Ezekiel Elliott is
going to get this and get this crazy and in
this stage. I have a different opinion on protests and
how it, how it, how things play out. But the
fact is is it's this is a distraction that the NFL,
(01:44:17):
with their power, is almost forcing on themselves because they
got such a great deal in the c b A,
that the NFL Players Association's only recourse is to go
to the courts to say this isn't fair. And there
were some votes and how this process plays out, and
there were some of the judges on the appeals court
(01:44:38):
that felt that this whole process also isn't fair to
the players Association, So there's something to that. But but
again I don't want to bore you. I don't I
don't want to board you Jonas to, Yeah, that's what
it comes down to, and that's it basically goes back
to that the NFL has so much power that the
(01:44:58):
players associations really only recourse in defending themselves because their
deal is so bad as to take it to the
courts and hopefully the courts show mercy on them. And
how is this not a distraction for the Dallas Cowboys?
How is it not? I mean, clearly, you know Zekiel,
it has been distracted by But how is it not
for that entire team? I mean, you're now, you're you're
you've got a losing record, You're at the bye week,
(01:45:21):
You're like, okay, let's get a week, let's figure this
whole thing out, and then let's really kick some mass
back part of the season. Also, he is suspended for
six games. Okay, yeah, we thought we had moved away
from it. It's like it should have been handled either
before the season, but there should be nothing done during
the season. Okay, you commit, you do something wrong during
the season, that's one thing. They find out about it
during the season, that's one thing. But if it's if
(01:45:43):
they decide okay, uh, we do not agree with it,
and we're going to you know, he's not going to
be suspended these six games. Will will visit this in
the off season, That's one thing. But to have a
drag out during the season, how is this not a distraction?
Remember as well, this was what a ten month investigation
that was draw just what a couple of weeks before
the NFL season starts and finding out what Ezekiel Elliott's
(01:46:06):
status was going to be. And I'm not saying that
their investigation would you know, should have been compromised to
wrap it up in in nine months, But the fact
is is when you dropped this before the season, something
like this is bound to happen. Yeah, And I know
Jerry Jones was was definitely frustrated. Jerry Jones was really
really bothered about what was has gone on in Dallas.
(01:46:27):
And so we actually caught up with Jerry Jones earlier
today to ask him which to ask him which player,
which player he feels the worst for right now in
the Cowboys roster. And again I don't know if Jerry's
a smoker, It sounds like his voice has changed a
little bit at least so, but here was more from
(01:46:47):
Jerry Jones talking about what is the most frustrating thing
going on with one of his players right now. Okay,
maybe that's let he was seeing Leon Lett, but he's
got it. That's Axis acts. So it's interesting who wins
for the chase for the Cup in Naska. One of
(01:47:08):
the Giants losses this year was to the Eagles on
a six from Okay, we go, there, we go. I
did every pieces today Robert can point it out. Yeah,
by the way, they confirm Dan put a trail on
the floor and now they're gone, so we gotta figure
(01:47:29):
out who ate him? All right, So he's Dan Buyer.
I'm Jonas Knox And for Doug Gottlieb. Here Fox Sports Radio,
we will have the return of one of the greatest
segments in all of sports talk radio. That is coming
up next. But for all the latest from around the
world of sports, it's Steve Sager. It has been an
enjoyable show. Doug Gottlieb, phone home, that's what we need
at this particular point. Forty Niners released veteran linebacker Navarro

Tonight on FS one, it's Game one of the American
League Championship Series Yankees at Houston at eight pm Eastern time.
The Yankees won one games this year. Houston won a
(01:48:37):
hundred one and just defeated Boston in four in the
a L d S. In fact, they scored two runs
top of the eighth for the leading Game four at Fenway.
Carlos Beltron will be the Houston d h Tonight. Matt
Holiday will start for New York as designated hitter. He

start Game three Monday against C C. Sabathia of New York.
Twelve NBA exhibitions tonight, ending the preseason, and US men's
soccer coach Bruce Arena rasign back to you, I do
find an interesting that the Marcus Wheaton news or if
you're at a twenty two team eight wide receiver fantasy league,
don't play Marcus Wheaton. I was very tempted to say
(01:49:21):
Marcus Wheaton was out, and who would know? By the way,
would below Powell if you said bell all Powell's name
with a mouthful of peanut butter, would it sound the
same without? Yeah, I thought I successfully did that. Powell,
like put just put a mouthful of peanut butter, would
sound exactly the same. Good for him. Hold your tongue
(01:49:43):
and say it. No, that's a different way. Oh you
know what time it is. It's the John Ramo Show.
It's the John Ramo Show. Ramo Show, this is the
John Romine's Sports on. Here's John Ramos. He says exactly
(01:50:05):
what Suzanne tells him to say. We're back. Everybody good. Uh,
I'm just robing damn good. Even everybody. We have a
great show for you tonight. It's a flask Friday. To
make sure to always use the hashtag the John Romo
Show on Tonight's Flask Friday. We want to interact with you,
(01:50:27):

you sports fans coming up later on in the show.
But right now, my almost like kick Ryan is out today,
so I have my friend Robert Garrett here with me. Robert,
(01:50:50):
I want to start with some n f L. That
sounds good. John, whatever the band They're gone. I thought
this was interesting, Robert. Did you see the story about
Rod Goodell's wife? I did not. What happened? Was it
missed it? Well? She was using a fake Twitter account
to defend her husband Roger against social media trolls. Oh
it's nice. Do you think that your wife and everything
(01:51:11):
like that for you, John Well? I doubt it. She
probably joined them. She hates the show. If George Washington
and Thomas Jefferson were alive today, what's NFL team would
they root for? Find out next on the jar with
(01:51:31):
collection feature except large size dog Data with his lightship
champion at the Rebel Cause with her defender Luke Skywalker
and could string them into action on his crossing sucks everybody.
Let's give it up for Taylor Swat all right, turning
(01:51:53):
down the Super Bowl. But hello, John Romins, what I
think of flasks and getting drunk? I think of Taylor Swift.
Don't forget. She'll join me here up on the stage
later on for an in depth interview and we'll have
some drinks and talk about our exes. It's gonna be great. Also,
coming up, I know you've been waiting on this. I'll
give you my top ten community college transfers to play
(01:52:13):
intermural tennis in the Big Twelve during the season. Trust me,
there are some stars on that list. But right now,
in the spirit of Flask Friday, here are the most
popular things people get inscribed on their flasks. Number ten
for my best man. Number nine slow pitch champs do
(01:52:37):
the time constrates. We now move ahead in the program.
Number two Daddy's driving whiskey and number one. No rag
regrets all right, down Ramos story so secret that we
(01:53:01):
can only talk about it on the down This is
the down low, he John, what's up with the University
of North Carolina? And then double A Well you never,
North Carolinia's under NC double investigation dan for academic violations.
But let me tell you something. On the down low,
(01:53:22):
I heard that this is all a sham and u
n C will get not get penalized at all. Hey, John, So,
Ezekiel Elliott put up two hundred seventy yards from scrimmage
and two touchdowns and the Cowboys last two games. Yes,
(01:53:44):
that's right, what's going on there? But on the down low,
I heard that this is all a sham. That's the
first one I heard. Ezeko Elliott is getting suspended for
six games, so expect those out. That's the first time.
(01:54:05):
What's happening in soccer in the US men's national team, Well,
they are the golf. Soccer is closing in on Golf
is the fourth most popular sport in the United States.
But on the down low, I heard the US men's
national team is kind of weak this year and they're
gonna get They're gonna miss the World cup download one.
(01:54:32):
What does Tim Tebow keep on his flask? Find out
next John Robins Show, I'm Morgan Freeman keep of memories
to prove it we're back. Is this Taylor Swift again?
(01:54:54):
Let's hear it for Taylor Swift. By the way, her
brother is strow Mile Swift, is he not? I know
everyone on social media is going crazy right now and
for many reasons. I'm sure don't forget to stick around
for her in in depth interview after the show, But
right now it's time for Yes, Yes, I love It's shot.
(01:55:21):
Pretty guys. We have a couple of things here we
want to get to. We're gonna be playing with Dan
Buyer and Jonas knocks and Dan and Dan Jonas. Let's
give you the rundown of what the what the categories are? First,
Ben macadon't Friday us sucker words and turns words and
(01:55:51):
turns very good. This studio broadcast crew kept saying poopy
pants during last size n L D S G five.
What is TBS? Oh? That's correct. I think that's all
the time we have for tonight. A big thanks to
(01:56:12):
everyone who tweeted it. You did the hashtag. The John
Ronald Show also thanks to Taylor Swift for me tonight's
special musical guest. Sorry Taylor, we'll have to get to
you next time. And Robert and Mike Fowler, I'll catch
you on the back side the bike Fowler Power. We're
also gonna get to my Daily Double because that was
(01:56:34):
the sounder that played not the correct answer, but four
segments that that show. It's expanding, by the way, you
know who used to have a Daily Double? CC Sabathia
in the Clubhouse, Jonas Jonas, you can't drop a booze Joe,
come here, guys, just one more quick thing hashtag the
(01:56:58):
John Ronald Show. Sorry about that. Sorry, John just got
a Is Strom Miles Swift really the brother of Taylor?
I don't. I don't think so. I just I don't
know relations alright, So Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for
Doug gotta leave here on Fox Sports Radio. You can
listen to the show also on the I Heart Radio app.
(01:57:19):
By the way, if you would like to be a
part of the John Ramo Show, if you have ideas
and you think they would help the John Ramo Show
that you'd like to send over, you can reach John
at j S Ramo Zero six with the hashtag the
John Ramo Show up next. There is crucial information in
the world of sports that we have to pass along
(01:57:40):
because if we don't, the rest of your day is
gonna suck. That's next year on Fox Sports Radio. According
to the scoreboard, I'm still ahead and John pretty that's
Jonas Knox. He's John Ramo. So I'm Dan Buyer in
for Doug who is in for the Herd today here
on Fox Sports Radio. You can also check Doug out
on Speak for your Elf on Fox Sports One. Why
(01:58:01):
don't we check out what Steve de Sager is doing
right now the press. Steve's here to keep us got
up todate of all the happenings, the ins and outs
of what's going on in the sports world. Thank you
very much, And you guys ought to be still basking
in the glow of the stro Mile Swift reference last
was very good. We do have a basketball story to
(01:58:22):
start out. How about this headline? J R. Smith says
he was hurt that the Cavaliers are starting Dwyane Wade
said he accepted his role, but pointed to a lack
of perimeter shooting as an issue with starting. Wade he
was speaking with the podcast that Richard Jefferson and Channing
Fry have quote, Honestly, I was hurt, man, I was
really emotional drained at that point. I got wind of it.
(01:58:43):
What do you think of j R. Smith's reaction as
they add Wade to the roster in Cleveland? What did
you think they're gonna do. We're gonna start eight guys,
you know, all right, we all get to start, just
because Wade's not a three point shooter, especially now and
he is. Maybe he expected I don't know. Derrick Rose
(01:59:04):
was also hurt. No, just in general, that's a headline
that's going to repeat itself a few times in the
coming season. I'm guessing that's not very nice. So you're
saying he's got no business even speaking out on this, Yeah,
I mean, I don't understand why. What was the surprise here?
If you play the same position as a guy who's
(01:59:24):
a first ballot Hall of Famer and he's good friends
with Lebron and he can still score the basketball, and
they sign him and you're not as good as him,
what they should just not play him because they want to.
They don't want to upset you. He got he got
a contract, he got like it's things have gone pretty
pretty well for him. Coming from where he came from.
All he had to hear was Mellows press conference in
(01:59:46):
Oklahoma City when he got the coming off the bench question,
and yeah, to realize what was going to happen in Cleveland.
Coach Scott Frost has done very well with Central Florida football.
But there's a report in the Orlando Sentinel that says
the university contractor for a report right before the start
of this season that said their stadium on campus has
(02:00:07):
rust problems. It has affected the structural integrity of a
forty five thousand seats venue. Corrosion effects more than eighty
thousand square feet of the stadium. The report said four
stairways had heavily rusted support and there was a potential
for quote significant section loss. We had actual sound from
(02:00:30):
people taking their seats before the last home game. Right, sorry, ma'am,
here's a half off coupon for now. The university claimed
(02:00:51):
that Legion Field in Birmingham, dum, what is Scott frostcarry
has gone? Anyway? You could be the next Nebraska coach soon,
suck it up. They claimed they were completed enough repairs
on the more significant findings before home game number one?
How are you doing going on? It's more than one
(02:01:13):
section from home. I can't wait to the Rustum Stadium
and you still can't get a worker to come help you.
But it's a potential fourteen million dollar bill for Central
Florida to fix everything correctly that is still out there.
I think they have the same problem at the Rose
Bowl because nobody goes to u c L a game
(02:01:35):
just when it's half empty. That's still fifty. Bruce Arena
is out as US men's soccer coach after the team
his team failed to qualify for next year's World Cup.
Also has a lot of who the hell is Bruce Arena?
A lot of failure in that Arena. US Soccer president
(02:01:56):
sinil Glotti also says he will not resign, but chances
are next year he won't run an a pose for
reelection this time ahead. I hit a parlaid on that
USA game then really yeah, I hit a party. I
bet on Trinidad and Tobago. How did how did the
slogan of Arena football never catch on when he was
the head coach for all of those years? How did
(02:02:18):
that never gain any traction? You can't beat last place Trinidad,
which was one and eight this year. The World Cup,
which Fox is sending four hundred Americans over there, and
there will be no American soccer players at the World
Cup in Trinidad and Tobago is so bad the prices
right won't even send you there on a trip. That's
(02:02:38):
how bad their their team is. That and you talked
about odds earlier. The Dodgers are barely the odds on
favorite to win the World Series two to one Houston
just over two to one Bovada. That's Johnny, what are
the odds that the Dodgers leave the weekend up two? Oh? Jonas? Oh, listen, Dan,
Here's here's the thing. I'm gonna go fifty percent, fifty
(02:03:03):
percent they could and fifty percent they couldn't. John Ramos,
what are the odds that the Dodgers are up too
oh after the weekend
