Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Threat is a new hit podcast from Ozzi Media
that explores history surprising connections in order to discover how
one thing leads to another, like how movie moguls in
early Hollywood helped spark the Me Too movement. Today, get
it on I Heart Radio or wherever you listen. You're
listening to Fox Sports Radio Boom. There is John Rols
(00:21):
as well. On this Friday, Wow. We knew that there
were decisions going to be made, and today was a
big day, guys, a big, big day of the NBA,
and there were future decisions that had to be made.
But Lebron James had a decision to make. And if
he made a certain decision, then maybe some of the
(00:41):
other decisions wouldn't come into play. So Lebron James had
to decide by the end of today whether he wanted
to opt in with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the final
year of his contract or opt out and become a
free agent. So Jonas and John essentially, for Lebron James,
it came down to this deal, no deal, And he
(01:05):
said no deal. He has opted out of his contract
and now Lebron James is a free agency. You know,
how have you ever done this when you had CDs
when you were a kid, or when you were younger,
you recorded a song or on a tape and like
if the glitch was on the CD. There was like
the Smashing Pumpkins song I had recorded and it was
a burn CD, and there was a glitch on the
(01:25):
CD because it recorded wrong. And so anytime I heard
that song on the radio, I was expecting the same
glitch like it was part of the song, because it
was so imprinted in my brain that that's how it
was supposed to sound. Whenever I hear deal or no
Deal music, because we've done it so many times on
this show, I am just waiting for the next sound
because I think it's part of the bit now to
(01:46):
be I'm gonna go deal Dan John Rob He's a
part of the sound track. He's going to take that deal.
Lebron James did not take the deal to play is
to at least opted of his contract. And what this
did today was it basically took the Houston Rockets out
of the equation. The realistically, the only way that they
are going to be able to bring in Lebron James
(02:06):
was through a sign in trade with the Cavalier since
Lebron didn't opt in, there's really no way they can
make the money work unless Cleveland, unless Houston wanted to
join the Big Three and just have three players on
the court. That essentially that is what happened with the Rockets.
So the Rockets are kind of out of it. The
Cavn Leers Jonas, in my mind, are out of it
as well. Like I thought it was maybe a two
team race, and I just I wondered a Lebron James
(02:29):
was gonna see how things we're gonna go this week.
I just now don't see him signing any other deal
with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and I think that this is
the first step to a breakup. It would have been
surprising in my mind if Lebron opted in, But now
that he has opted out and Cleveland is still still
a possibility, I just don't think that their chances are
realistically there. The more and more we get closer to
(02:51):
actual free agency, the less and the less I think
Lebron's returning to the northeast Ohio. There's a Calves fan
out there who, after Lebron left the first time, either
burned the jersey or sold it and said screw that guy.
I want nothing to do with him. I am out
of the Lebron James business. And then he resigned with
(03:11):
the Calves. So that guy went out and he bought
another jersey and said, all right, all right, I made
a mistake, but I'm not gonna get burned again. And
now he's going to be out of another Hunter box.
Like hundreds of dollars have been thrown away with Lebron
James not wanting to sign the extension with Cleveland. Yeah,
it would have only made sense to me. Cleveland's real
shot here was on the one year deal. Unless and
(03:32):
and this goes into a whole another conversation, there's something
more in the contract, whether it's an ownership steak or
something else along with it, and we can touch on
that later on as to why that's ever gonna happen
in Cleveland. But to me, this was really their chance,
this was their opportunity. Or he just sees it as
as a way to sign one final contract there. But
(03:52):
I think if you're a Calves fan, happy hours started early,
and it's not because you're happy about anything. You just
need to numb the pain because that guy probably gone, Yeah,
and and your point about ownership, and I don't want
to guess where you're going, but I think it probably
has something to do with Dan Gilbert. And there was
a report today that Stephen A. Smith said that Lebron
and Dan Gilbert uh did not get along, which I
(04:13):
didn't even know that was a report. I think I
felt that that was probably understood and we understood that
that's happened over the last three or four years and
even dating back to when Lebron first made the decision
and Gilbert wrote the letter reportedly I'm not a woman,
but appreciate that will clear it up. The fact of
the matter is when the Cavaliers did the trade to
bring in Isaiah Thomas, Jay Crowder and getting that first
(04:33):
round pick, I felt that that was the move. When
they dealt Kyrie irving to Boston was the first step
that Dan Gilbert was taking his team back. And I
felt that that first round pick was so crucial because
at the time you thought it was gonna be a
top three. Brooklyn plays a little bit better at the
top eight, but I think Dan Gilberts wanted his team
back at least for the last year. Why wouldn't you
you your team finally won a championship bringing a titled
(04:54):
to Cleveland, and you get absolutely zero credit at all.
In fact that as the Cavaliers win more and more,
Dan Gilbert's almost thought of less and less because Lebron
keeps on getting all of the all of the praise
and all of the the congratulations I'm doing well, and
he's the one that gets hype while Dan Gilbert is
just sitting by paying a hundred and thirty million dollars
(05:16):
in luxury taxes and getting zero benefit whatsoever. Yeah, And
it's one of those things to where people assume, at
some point during the course of their career, whatever job
they're at, that they can do the job better than
the people upstairs or the people on top, are the
people that run the business, are the people that are
running the restaurant. They assume, Oh, I could do that job,
I'm so much better, And then you get an opportunity
to actually do that job, and you go, oh boy,
(05:37):
there was a lot more to this than I realized.
And I think what's gonna end up happening is when
it's all said and done and he parts ways and
his career is over and he wants to go into
the ownership side of things. Lebron James will then have
a true appreciation for how much Dan Gilbert catered to
him multiple times throughout the course of his career. He
doesn't get it now. He just assumes that he could
(05:57):
do that too. He's going to get to a point
to where he goes now, I see what he's saying.
You know, it's like people's people say you you don't
really get what it's like to be a parent until
you have kids, and Dan, I think we're more than
qualified to talk about this since we don't have kids. Um,
and then you get you become a parent, And I've
talked to people who are parents and they say, you
don't get it until you're that and you can sort
(06:18):
of empathize with what your parents went through at that time.
And I think Lebron is gonna get to that at
some point. Yeah, looking at what Dan Gilbert did to
bring a championship and got zero recognition for it and
in fact got backlash is something that I think that, yeah,
you're dead on about that. Lebron James will realized that
in time. When you also talk about the Cavaliers in
their future, there was a lot of talk as well
(06:39):
about maybe Kevin Love moving on via a trade. I
think that's something that we're going to maybe hear about
in the next couple of weeks. There was a report
that the Calves want to keep Kevin Love, who's under
contract for for another year or two, I believe. But
the Cleveland Cavaliers. The face of the Cavaliers I think
changed a year ago with with with the trade with
the Boston Celtics. And now this is another point of
Dan Gilbert taking his team back and if this is goodbye,
(07:01):
and we both are assuming that it is goodbye for Lebron,
it was kind of a telegraph goodbye because he wanted
to be able to walk away from this and know
that he did everything he could. He played in every game,
he gave it his all. He did it even with
a broken hand. Dan, A lot of it was theatrics,
a lot of it was being over dramatic, But the
fact of the matter is he wanted a clean break,
to be able to walk away and not feel any
guilt like he did the first time around. And I
(07:22):
think that's what he's gonna end up with. Today's shows

to talk some football and a whole lot more in
a little bit with Fortys cornerback Richard Sherman, interesting to
get his thoughts on what is happening this soft season,
how he is coming back in Heck, why don't even
ask Richard Sherman what's happening with the NBA and Lebron
James and the Lakers. So I'm doing it. I'm asking everybody.
(10:00):
I mean, I'm stopping people on the street. Dan, I
want to know, because I'm gonna break this story first.
This happening, This is pretty amazing. My wife even wore
her Lakers T shirts. Yeah. So I don't know if
if she's trying to do that too to to you know,
send good vibes to the Purple and Gold, or to
try to try to bring them back. But yes, on
a casual Friday, she wore the Lakers shirt to work. Yeah.
(10:24):
That's when you know it's a big deal. When you
when you know that free agency in the NBA is
taking over, is when the wife ends up pulling out
the Lakers T shirt from the closet. Um, Like, do
you know what my wife were today? Dan? What's that?
I don't know. I'm not married. I can't get her
to commit. What about the lady friend that she is.
She wearing a Brook Lopez jersey maybe to try to
(10:45):
you know, you mean, like the Latin culture, like the Lopez. Um. No,
she's not actually her first ever. She took her. But
this is a true story. I I got us hold
of some free tickets and I couldn't go because I
was working the next morning. And so her little brother
had never been to an NBA game, and so I
gave them the tickets and so they went and got
(11:07):
to see their first Lakers game together. That was the
game Kobe tours Achilles. So everybody, we're here, so when
it comes to the Lakers, we should leave her. Adams,
I didn't know that that Kobe limps off every game. Wow,
this is what happens at Staples Center. I had no idea.
Oh that is that is that is that is bad
(11:27):
luck joining us now on the program. He's the new
cornerback for the San Francisco forty Niners and teaming up
with one of the greatest games that there ever is.
Crash Bandicott Insane Trilogy, released on multi platform today. Trilogy
is a remaster of the original three Crash Bandicoot games.
Richard Sherman actually received the first ever Xbox one copy
of Crash Bandicoot hand delivered himself, or hand delivered directly
(11:50):
to his home by the furry mar Serpeal himself. Richard
Sherman joins this here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Richard,
thanks so much for coming on today. Thanks for having me.
It's uh, it's it's great to have you on. I've
got to I've got to ask you, first of all,
obviously about the surgery. When are you gonna have Stephen A.
Smith removed from your stomach? When does that surgery go down?
(12:10):
When are we going to see that operation happen for you?
Richard Sherman, You know we're working on it. You know,
it's obviously one of those things that that needs to
be for the season. You know, we'll have to agree
with you, but you know it's it's one of those
things I just gotta find time to get done. Um
on the on the serious injury that you suffered last year,
(12:32):
what was the hardest part for people that aren't athletes,
that have never gone through the grind and playing a
physical sport. If we tear an achilles, it's not really
gonna affect our day to day performance at work. But
for you, this is your livelihood, your career. What's the
most difficult part of rehab as an athlete? All right,
it's just real, you know, I mean, it is just
(12:54):
a grind, you know, existing day to day. You didn't
do it um pushing yourself, you know, just one of
those things you got to deal with. Richard Sherman joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio New forty Niners quarterback
or cornerback. When you look at your quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo,
that that you have it was you said that that
you found a couple of tells that Jimmy Garoppolo had
(13:16):
of taking his hand off the ball? Do you have
tells for all quarterbacks in the National Football League? No,
that's all right. Do you have do you have tells
for all the other quarterbacks in the National Football League?
Because you reveal that Jimmy Garoppolo had one with the
forty Niners? Do you have a book on all the
quarterbacks on what their tells are? Yeah, most of them
(13:40):
have pretty pretty obviously. But you know, I mean, most
of most of the fans aren't watching the game close enough,
so you know, to them, it the team corn but
to most people, I mean, when this is your job
and is all you do. Um, there's a tail on
just about every quarterback inlays whether you can can see
it in game and a real speed and whether you
(14:02):
can can you know, use to your events. What about
the San Francisco forty Niners being in the same division
and arrival of yours? What about them intrigued you the
most when it came time to choose your next spot
in in the NFL? Oh no, I mean none of
that comes in here thinking when you're when you're thinking
about taking you know that that that division rival and
(14:24):
all that nonsense is the matter. Um, it's whatever's the
best situation for you and your family. And in the
best situation, you know thematically and culturally, and um, that's
really all that go into your situation your mind. You know,
just chance to win. You know they have a quarterback.
Let's get enough to win the playoffs and play at
(14:44):
a high level. Um, defensively, are there enough players to
play good football down the stretch? And and we think
they show that down the stretch last year? Um, you know,
geographically is it to be close enough? And I'm gonna
have to move my family away across the country, you know,
(15:04):
being a West Coast guard and probably not um you know,
things like that. It will go to the decisions. It's
it's purely you know, it has nothing to do with oh,
you know, plays and for a couple of years and
you know, quote unquote rivalry and none of that matters
to me. What was the best part of playing? Looking
(15:25):
back now at your time with the Seahawks, what are
you gonna remember most about about your tenure there? Just
to game mates? You know, he was a great time,
great men I got to play with. Thankful for for
the chance to play with men I got to play with.
That's that's always the best partner's games in the relationships
you developed. I do a show here Richard with Brady Quinn,
(15:49):
who spent a short time in Seattle there during the
off season. It was brought in a sort of a
camp arm I guess, and he told me that in
all the years he's played football, he's never stepped into
a more competitive place then in that locker room in Seattle.
Where did that start? How did that start to build there?
From your time in Seattle? It was it was just
(16:10):
a philosophy, you know, it was just something that that
I think has started changed there. It was it was compete, compete, compete,
you know, it was the best man gets to play.
And then every matter where you were drafted or or
anything like that, if you went out there and and
play the best and then you get you get a
chance to play, you know, and it's a guy went
off then playing before you know, I got draft of
(16:31):
new first round and didn't play at a high level.
And when iut in tactics and gotten there, so every
day he's probably be going home or going somewhere else's play.
And I think that was what allowed to environment to
thrive and to become really competitive and guys to really
really show because you know, when you're a competitor in
you're you're a type aide, you know, helpa. Then you
(16:53):
go out there and you get to imposure will on
people and the rest to take care of itself. Richard Sherman,
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, thinks, in part
to Crash Bandicoot in st Trilogy, which is released today
on all platforms, do you think that number twenty five
is gonna be retired in Seattle? I have no idea.
That's not something about really worry about that years to
(17:16):
play and more things to do with more things that
I don't want to accomplish. And you know, they forget
to be retired, and you know that's awesome, and you
know I appreciate it. But right now, I'm just worried
about what I got to do this season to one
ball games. We've been asking everybody and and it doesn't
matter if you're an NBA insider or not. We just
want somebody to give us some sort of information so
(17:36):
we can get ahead of it. First, where's Lebron going?
I have no idea. I have no idea, you know.
I just hope that something happened to him. He is
making for a real bad news with if everybody's speculating.
That's the worst part about this. It's like, I think
we talked to mother's cousin, sisters the other day, Mike Blendon,
(18:00):
Miss you know, and it's nobody has any idea Black
Lahblah and probably your family and close sand So I
have no idea. Is there a at any point during
your career has there been a rumor that's been floated
out there about you that was the most crazy. I'm
sure that does been a time Um, but uh, I
(18:25):
can't think of one particular right now, honestly, Um, you
know what I mean Right now, there was over the
rumor that I was I was good by the girl
to hold out and that was going. I mean, that's
absolutely as face was a claim that has anything I've
ever heard. But you know, it's as if somebody says
it and the family there's some truth to it. Richard
(18:46):
Sherman joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, wrapping up
with the four time All Pro cornerback in Super Bowl champ. Um,
Now that you're a forty Niner, we know your dad
at one point had a pickup truck with you and
the Seahawks logo on it and a bunch of other
Seahawks related images. Is there going to be a forty
Niner pickup truck that your dad is gonna have driving
around southern California? I don't think. I think you learned
(19:08):
his lessons from from the first time doing it that
it brings away too much. I've tens him to him
and he didn't play like all the attention that that
was doing. So UM, I think that he'll probably keep
it more low key this time. You guys ended up
raffling that one off, didn't you as part of your foundation?
Is that that a couple of years ago? Yeah, yeah,
(19:30):
we did. We end up, you know, and some money
to get calls and and they're definitely working out well.
And my dad didn't have to get classed every day anymore.
Crash Baddicoot Insane Trilogy released multi platform today. It's the
remaster of the original three Crash Bandicoot games. Richard Sherman
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Thanks so much
for the time, Richard, best of luck on on on
(19:51):
everything in San Francisco, and we have to do it
again soon. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Richard
Sherman joining us year on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah. Dan,
you being a a Seattle Seahawks you grew up a
Seattle Seahawks fan. Seeing him in San Francisco house, that's
going to very weird. It was very odd. And just
(20:11):
looking at looking at pictures when they did the alternate
jersey unveiled to see him in in that uniform, to
see that look. It was very different in those colors. Now,
he played at Stanford, but still you you you would
associate him with the with the blue and the gray
and the green of the Seahawks, and it was it
was very different. I asked him about the retired number.
(20:34):
I had a sense you would say that he probably
didn't care. But when you brought up like, what what
do you know when you look back, what is there?
And when he talked about his teammates and in changing
that culture, he was the one to really do it.
And even though when cam Chancellor, Earl Thomas was the
first round pick and he had Brandon Browner there, he
(20:55):
was the one. And I don't think it's out of
the realm of possibility to see his number get retired
in Seattle right now, nobody's wearing. They haven't given it
to anybody else early on. But I don't think you're
going to see it for a while. I have a
feeling that you're actually going to see Earl Thomas, camp
Chancellor and Richard Sherman at some point get their numbers
retired with the Seahawks. And I think that uh number
(21:16):
and Seattle. I know it's not on his mind, and
maybe he doesn't want to look back at those good times,
but I think that will end up happening in the
Pacific Northwest, all right. So here's the question, Dan, this
is an important one. Were you more devastated by Richard
Sherman leaving the Seahawks or Charlie Whitehurst? Oh man, that
that white Hurst arra was something Lord Jesus, come on, man,
(21:39):
we'll say the Richard Sherman thing. And you know, and
Richard Sherman said himself when he got some backlash from
the Seahawks, of hey, this is the team cut me.
I didn't leave the team. He was going to make
X amount of money and then he went to another
team that was willing to pay him that dollar amount
and and maybe even more. The point is is this
was this was happening, like you could see the writing
(22:00):
on the wall with this defense that there were just
pieces and there were contracts that were just that we're
wrapping up, and that at some point you were going
to have to make a decision. And unfortunately for Richard Sherman,
the Achilles injury actually made it easier on the Seahawks
to not commit that money next year and then allowing
him to to be released with really no penalty whatsoever.
(22:22):
Dan Buyer Jonas knock him for Doug Gottlieb here on

You can get me at the Jonas Knocks. Coming up next.
There has been a mystery team revealed. Okay, a mystery
team revealed in one of the hottest player pursuits in
a long, long time. Find out who it is next
year on FSR. But for all the latest, you just
(22:45):
sit back. You tell everybody around you, anybody near your cubicle,
anybody on the roads, to just go ahead and shut
the hell up, because Steve to say he's here at
the latest, just a simple good afternoon, gentlemen, and we'll
get the Yankees Red Sox in a minute. But the
Ron James news first, because it's actual news this time
that he's declined his option before the deadline tonight and
(23:05):
will be a free agent starting Sunday. James agent notified
the Calves this morning, according to Cleveland dot Com, and
Nick Center and his cantor will exercise his option to
stay in New York. That's worth over eighteen million dollars.
Tiger Wood shot a second round sixty five in Maryland,
moving up to a tie for tenth place. The US
Senior Open is on FS one all weekend. The World
Cup was off today The knockout stage begins tomorrow ten
(23:29):
am Eastern Time on Fox TV France against Argentina, the
Round of sixteen opener. The Washington Capitals promoted Todd Reardon
to head coach. The draw for Wimbledon was today. The
tournament starts Monday. Serena Williams could be facing the number
five seed in the third round next week. There's one
day game coming up in ninety minutes at Wrigley Fields, Chicago.
The Cubs will host Minnesota Tonight seven pm Eastern Time.
(23:52):
It's the Yankees and c C Sabathia hosting Boston and
Eduardo Rodriguez, who's nine and two this year. The Red
Sox game ahead of the rival Yanks for best overall
record in the Majors. When you talk about superstars in
the game of baseball, the name J. D. Martinez probably
won't cross your lips, but he does lead the Major's
in homer's and r bis. He's batting three twenty six
(24:12):
this year, and guys, if you go back to last
hundred sixty two games, the equivalent of a full season,
J D. Martinez has fifty seven homer's and a hundred
forty runs batted in he was awesome for Arizona after
being acquired last year from Detroit, helped get him to
the playoffs. In fact, he had sixty five r b
I s in sixty two games with them, hit almost
four hundred in September last year, and now with potentially
(24:35):
a long term deal with Boston, leading the majors in
the two pattern power categories this year. Back to you, Steve,
on a scale of one to fifty seven, fifty seven
being awful. How dumb was my question about Steven A.
Smith the Richard Sherman. Okay, thank you very much, Steve.
I appreciate that I was hoping for a fifty five.
(24:56):
Looking back on it, I really regret it. I'm sorry.
I tried to be funny and lighthearted. It didn't seem
like funny was coming back over the phone. No. Well,
it's maybe I'm an outsider on this, but it's just
a guess. Sometimes you try too hard, and I think
that's what I did. I gave it a fifty eight
on the try hard scale out of fifty eight, but
it seemed to fall pretty flax. So we don't get
(25:19):
in trouble. I'll give my true thoughts on that interview.
An hour four the program. So this is the Dug
gott Leave Show on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks.
I'm Dan Buyer. That is John Ramos. Lebron James has
opted out. You will head to NBA free agency and
this kind of this news Jonas today maybe put the
(25:41):
Kauai Leonard situation on the back burner, which ended up
dominating headlines yesterday. We seem to talk about it all
day long. But there was actually some new Kauai Leonard
news in the NBA and it stems from a report
that a team is interested in acquiring Kawhi Leonard and
that team is from the Eastern Conference and it's not
of Boston Celtics, but there are reports that the seventy
(26:02):
sixers now are interested in giving the Spurs an offer
for Kawuahi Leonard. Listen for what he does and what
you thought that he was. Kawhi Leonard's a perfect fit
for anybody because we all assume that he's not one
of these I have to be the superstar guy. Put
him in anywhere. Defense translates, wherever you go. He's gonna
be a great player and a great fit wherever it is.
(26:25):
But still it comes back to this, Okay, is he healthy,
what's his Is he not going to stay there long term?
And maybe the seventy Sixers view it as well. We
don't know how much longer we can depend on Joel
and beating Ben Simmons, So we got to go after
it now, which is my old point last year when
seventy Sixers fans were trying to sell the idea of well,
whatever happens this year, I mean, you know this is
(26:46):
all gravy or set up for the future. Yeah, you're
two superstars have injury history. Okay, they missed the first
portions of their careers because of injuries. You gotta go
get it when you can, and I think that's why
so many were disappointed in looking back to them losing
to the Celtics without their superstars. So it seems like
it makes a lot of sense, But I just I
(27:09):
don't know what they're gonna be willing to give up
when you already know a guy has no interest in
being there long term. Well that's that's the interesting part
of what the Sixers are involved with. Then it's kind
of from the Celtics situation Jonas that I look at
and it's different from what the Lakers are doing. The Sixers,
in a deal for Kawhi Leonard reportedly would be giving
(27:30):
up maybe their third best player. I know that J. J.
Reddicks has got a decision to make via free agency.
I don't know over return to Philadelphia is going to happen.
But in the report that we heard that the Sixers
would what they would be offering san Antonio, Dario Sarich
was the main player in that. Robert Covington could also
go along with a first round pick, which is maybe
(27:50):
something that san Antonio wants. We talked about Boston's offer
where yesterday, where I mean Jalen Brown I think would
have to be involved in a deal if you were
to bring him along, and that may not be the case.
And when you're the Lakers, and I know there's a
report that the Lakers haven't put brandon Ingram in the conversation,
but the Spurs have talked about brandon Ingram coming in
(28:12):
that deal. If you're the Sixers or Celtics and you're
only giving up your third best player, what does that
say about the Lakers who have to, you know, to
give up likely their top two guys. I mean, like
the market is so strange to me to see. I mean,
l A has got to l A can't do what
Boston and Philadelphia are doing because they can't afford to
do it. Like they can't just low ball san Antonio
(28:35):
and not get a deal done. They the Sixers and Celtics,
they can low ball san Antonio and just the hopes
of being like, all right, they really didn't want to
trade him to the West, He's coming to our team.
Do you think that a deal would get done if
if Philly would kind of walk back their demands on
the trade and finally include Matt Geiger and the deal.
Do you think that would that would get it done? Well?
(28:56):
If yeah, I mean Tyrone Hill. Who do they have
realistically outside of Simmons and MBID that you could package
together and would be enough for san Antonio? Well? False
is the I think the man. It's that's who I
think that you would have to put in. I would
put the question of this, if you knew that Kauai
(29:17):
was going to sound a long term deal, If you
knew that he was, would you trade Ben Simmons for Kauai?
Leonard and I would do it in a heartbeat. If
I'm Philadelphia, I I know Ben Simmons is young, and
I I just I would. I would look at Kauhi Leonard.
I would rather have Kawhi Leonard for a for a
long term, even with the questions around him, to team
him up with Joel embiad that I would Ben Simmons,
that's a pretty guts he called by Dan Buyer there
(29:38):
by secret that's this a sneaky guts he called by
Dan Buyer there Because let me tell you something, when
Lebron is all gone and he's no longer in the NBA,
all the fanboys who have been ball washing Lebron James
have slowly started to merge over to Ben Simmons. The
fact that you're saying trade him for Kauai, that's called swimming.
You'd have to, you would, I mean kau I would
have to have a long term deal to stay in this. Yeah,
(30:01):
you know, wouldn't be for the one year. But if
I had to pick between the two, yeah, to me,
I'd take Kawaii and a heartbeat over Ben Simmons. I
don't care how many years that Ben Simmons has and
I do have questions about Kauai's chronic injury that we
have in the attitude, But I just look at how
things play out and I think that Kawhi Leonard would
be a better option for it. Just it and it
does feel like I don't know how serious I take
(30:22):
any of these Eastern Conference trade rumors out there between
Boston and Philly, and who knows what else they'll come up.
I mean, they could, they could throw out the Vancouver
Grizzlies at this point, who the hell knows. But I
don't know that I necessarily buy him as realistic ideas.
I think this is about threatening the Lakers and threatening
Magic Johnson and knowing that if Lebron really is going
(30:45):
to make his decision sooner rather than later, you've got
a little bit of leverage here. So the more threats
you put out there, the more Magic is gonna have
to up his offer from the Lakers. That's that's where
I see this more of. I don't know that I
necessarily buy that a smart general manager or a smart
organization is going to take a chance on a guy
for a year when you know from talking to people
(31:07):
he's gonna be gone in a year. Anyways, I just yeah,
I wonder if this news leaked out of San Antonio. Oh,
I would be on the bed that and the Celtic
News leaked that I wouldn't be surprised if Danny Ainge
and Boston had sort of a wink wink, will go
along with it. Let's just not include names though no
names included, because Danny Ainge even talked about that earlier
(31:29):
to where he said, you know, the part I don't
like is when names are included. He's okay with the rumors,
all right, He's okay with just don't include names. So
he's got to repair relationships and make calls. I think
there was a wink wink sort of agreement, and I
think it's the same thing with Philadelphia. Look where did
Brent Brown come from? San Antonio? Come on, man, you're
telling me they haven't had a conversation and saying, hey,
(31:50):
just throw it out there. We're trying to increase our offer.
We know you don't want to take, and we know
you're not looking to get rid of any of your players.
Throw it out there. Let's get the buzz going, and
let's see if we and rack up the price on
the Lakers. We joked about this earlier this week, but
I saw it on Twitter last night. Hey, Lakers. How
are you going to repair this relationship with Kyle Kuzma
and Brandon ingram Um. Oh yeah, I'll tell you what.
(32:13):
April and June, when you aren't playing basketball, if you
don't make this trade, that's when you can end up
trying to repair the relationship between those two guys who
led you to the middle of the pack of the
Western Conference that didn't make the playoffs. Not the actual
Western Conference, but the middle of the pack. I even
hit the mic. I was I was so hot on
that take. Violent Yeah, gosh, man, how how in the
(32:33):
world it's Kyle Kuzma gonna get over this one if
his name is put in? Oh man. Names are the
best part of it. I know it's not for Danny James,
but for us. I love naming names that Oh yeah, look,
it's fun. I mean, we don't have to see any
of the backlash, so we don't have to We can
just throw a bunch of names out there. I mean, look,
I mean I just said Matt Geiger. There's gonna be
somebody out there looking at Matt Geiger to see what
(32:54):
his splits our road and home and they go, oh,
he's been retired for thirty eight years. I had no idea.
I'm not up to speed on my Aildelphia seventies sixers trivia. Yeah,
I just I think this is a lot of it's
what makes it fun. But you've been heard Richard Sherman say, Man,
I hope Lebron decides somewhere because I mean I'm hearing
rumors that somebody's sisters cousin is doing this, and somebody
is doing that. I mean it makes your head spin.
(33:16):
And plus NBA insiders, they're trying to facilitate this as
much as possible. Okay, they're trying to flush this out.
You want to get a golfer out of his home,
out of his hole, all right, you don't wait for him.
You put a hose down there and you flush that
s ob out. That's how it's done. All these reporters
one fourth of July off. This is all them putting
the hose in the hole, trying to flush the golfer out,
(33:37):
trying to get Lebron James to make a decision so
they can enjoy some booze and some food on fourth
of July. What was more painful Richard Sherman's achilles surgery
or him at having to do the interview with us.
What do you think was worse for him? What do
you think hurt more physically? Well, and I'll put my
stupid Stephen A. Smith question like what what do you
(33:57):
think made him go? Oh? Was it the actual incision
on the Achilles or do you think it was that question? Yeah,
that is boy, that's tough. Tough. You figure he's on
a tour right now, so you can really hopefully we
were Hopefully we're like right in the middle, all right,
right in the middle of the tour, of the of
the of the media tour, because that way he won't
remember it. Um. But if he does remember it, even

John Ramos hanging out as well as we are in

True Price from Truecar, now you can know the exact
price you'll pay for your next car. So visit True
Car to enjoy a more confident car buying experience. Listening, Uh, Jonas,
that's Bush League. Oh god, Dad? You know who else
thinks that? This is game time? On The Doug Gottlieb Show. One, Hello,
(35:35):
Steve and John. What game were we playing today? That's
my line, that's my line. No, it's good has to
lead to something produced else we can't. As Doug says,
dy had what game today are we playing? And then
I would say, well, dog, the game we play is Yeah,
(35:56):
there we go again. I don't know what it is.
My headphones keep going out. At the top of this segment,
what's the game we're playing against psychic. I saw that coming.
I'll give the sports items and ask you questions, and
you too, are the psychics for the segment. Of course,
Lebron James number one story today that he's officially deciding
not to opt into his Calves contract. Will he make
(36:18):
his decision before July the fourth, which is middle next week?
As I look into the crystal ball, earlier this week
we played our game of when Lebron will make his decision?
I see a decision by Tuesday, So that would be
before July four. Interesting, you know, Dan, I think we're
(36:40):
looking at the same ball. What else is new? I
see tuesday as well? All right, all right? Any reason
for this? Well, we think he's going to make his
decision early. That's a personal matter, Steve. I have number two.
I'm not sure it is. Paul George is doing a
documentary on his free agency, two of which apparently have
already aired. Will he revealed his destination in part three? Um,
(37:05):
that's a good question. I thought you were going to
ask what I watch part three? And I haven't watched
part one, and I also haven't watched part two. Yeah,
so I am going to say no, he won't you know.
I'm looking into this and as i'm I'm I'm seeing
and I'm watching, and I'm i mean, not the documentary,
(37:26):
but just watching, like the overall theme of what is
happening here, Steve, I believe that he may reveal it
in the third episode. You're not a psychic. It doesn't
mean that I'm wrong. I have a documentary. If there's
no reveal, he hasn't gotten anyone here to watch it
so far. But if he does, the old school to
(37:46):
be continued at the end. About that little nineties sitcoms
like you're watching alf Or for every Batman episode? Yes, man,
I gotta wait for next week for the conclusion. Cole
Hamills is one of the pictures rumored to be on
the trade block in baseball? Will the Rangers trade him
before the All Star break, which is really only two
and a half weeks away? Big fat yes? Y e yes,
(38:09):
hello Milwaukee. Yes, not the deadline you're saying before the
All Stars? Yes? Yes, I'm shocked. I'm appalled, Steve. You
have to be so so crazy? Did I stutter? Um?
I am going to take it a step further. I
agree with Dan that he is going to be dealt um.
I think. Also, as I'm reading into this, I believe
(38:31):
that Cole Hamiles was named after Cole Trickle from Days
of Thunder. Probably probably not, why not psychic? The Mavericks
are reportedly considering trading for DeAndre Jordan Clippers big Man.
If that actually happens and he finally goes to Dallas,
would the MAVs fans welcome him with open arms? Oh
(38:56):
A interesting, yes, I would say, um, I would say
one arm open, yes, No, I don't see it. I say, okay,
welcome aboard, like hey, come on in arms, not like
bringing in for a hug, because the Mavericks still aren't
(39:18):
that good, you know, Steve, in the business we call
this an educated reading. Okay, this is an educated reading.
And by educated I mean I've seen Dallas fans welcome
tarall Owens into Dallas after he posed on the Star
and they were upset about it as a member of
the forty Niners. So if that can be done, Steve.
That leads me to the conclusion maybe educated reading also
(39:42):
means that you're not really a psychic, but you'll take
the money anyway. I don't think we're really here to
to shame our psychic abilities on the air. Is what's
happening this segment. The Dodgers have hit fifty two home
runs in the month of June. It's homer or nothing.
They're awful with runners in scoring position in general, but
the club record for homers in any months fifty three.
We're getting near the end of June. It's the twenty
(40:03):
nine that the Dodgers gonna break that record. Mm hmmm,
good question. You know I'm feeling like after I'm looking
at this, I know one one thing is for certain.
I mean, you're in Colorado. It's a Colorado's here. John
Ramos gave you bad information in your ear. What do
(40:24):
I want to say anything? But what I'm saying is,
if you're listening to this show in Colorado, you know
that that team, when that team travels, they tend to
give up some home runs. Steve, I think they will
break the record, and in fact, Steve, I'd like to
take it another step forward. I think at some point
during this next series to close out the month, John
Ramos will be critical of one of the Dodger reporters.
(40:47):
By the way, you can find out relievers, you can
find out where your team is not playing in the
John Ramo showing Eastern and finally, Tim Tebow. According to
The New York Post, named to the Eastern League All
Star Game, he's got the batting average over to sixty.
Is Tim Tebow gonna get a major league call up?
(41:08):
With The New York Man, Absolutely absolutely, yes, it is
going to happen. There's no doubt about it. There were
than the Orioles. If you take away that the start
of the season, the Mets are just atrocious. Yes, yes,
Tim Tebow will be in the big leagues by the
end of the year. You know, Steve, I would like
to just talk quickly about Dan's prediction there, and I
(41:29):
feel that he might. This is game time on the
Duck Gotli Show. We should be psychics for real, man.
We can look at a lot of you know, look
at it, do a lot of things. I wish I
was psychic about an hour ago to know what questions
to ask Richard, but unfortunately that didn't work out. You
(41:53):
know who I not want to have as a client
if I was a palm reader? Who's that that old
charger security already got busted? Come on, jonas well, you
know what I mean, because it's very disgusting, and John
Ramos is here as well. In ninety minutes, you'll tell
you where your team isn't playing. Tonight's in the John
Ramos Show. NBA free agency is fast approaching, with some
(42:16):
updated news. Lebron James going to be a free agent,
the Sixers apparently interested in Kauai Leonard, and maybe the
Lakers may be interested in adding someone other than Lebron.
Paul George or Kawai Leonard. Another big name has been
connected to the Lakers and in a week Jonas that
has just been constant with new rumors and reports about
(42:39):
what's going to happen in the NBA for free agency.
It's so much fun. It's it's exciting. There's it's better
than covering the NBA finals because the NBA Finals stunk
and majority of the playoffs stunk as well too. Sorry
for uh the spalding heads out there, they don't want
to hear that, so yeah, they this is a lot
of fun and it's more enjoyable, and you can speculated
(43:00):
all that, but at some point, at some point, we
have all kind of realized that we are on information overload.
There have been so many rumors, counter rumors, teams thrown
in that if you sift through what do we really got?
What we really got is Lebron is opting out. That's
not that much of a surprise to anybody. And the
(43:21):
options now are very limited. So we were fed Houston,
we were fed Philly, we were fed Boston, we were
fed texting Kevin Durant. But ultimately it came down to
and what it appears to be coming down to is
Cleveland and l A with various reports still circling in
from who knows whose side in which camp. It's crazy, man,
it's crazy. I'm wondering now as we sat there and
(43:43):
we wondered, okay, is this Kauai news going to drop
before free agency? And that's what always like the the
issue with me when it came from the Lakers angle
of things was if the Lakers had had a legitimate
shot at Paul George and they felt good about it,
why would you want to give away assets to the
(44:05):
San Antonio Spurs for Kawai Leonard unless you had such
a higher rank on Kauai than you did Paul George.
If you're really thinking about two guys and if you
want to have three, that's fine, But I just didn't
think that the the Kauai the Kauai trade was necessary
because I think it's a a Lakers offseason win if
(44:28):
they come away with Lebron and if they come away
with Paul George. Now with Lebron opting out, I think
it takes It took Houston out of the the pixture.
It really took the Cavaliers, in my mind, would have
been a two horse race. And I just think that
all signs continue to point to the to the Lakers
getting Lebron James. But the point that I'm I look
at all of this, Jonas and and I and you
(44:50):
see these these names. We even heard of Kevin Durant.
We heard Durant rumor about going to the Lakers. These
names kind of fit. You could make an argument for
one name or another that you can make an argument
for Paul George and Kawhi Leonard going a variety of
different places. David Griffin, the former Calves GM on Sirius
XM radio said this, the Lakers will get to Marcus
Cousins plus one of either Lebron Kauai or Paul George.
(45:15):
That from the former Calves general manager, and so officially
there has been a name that has come up that
I just don't see a fit. I don't see how
DeMarcus Cousins would be one of the big fish that
we that Laker fans have have wanted or that we
thought would go to l A. I can see Kauai,
I could see Paul George, I could see Lebron. I
(45:36):
just don't understand what the Marcus Cousins in a Lakers
uniform on a big contract would do for anyone. And
that just came out today. Well, that's because they've got
the Lakers have to get something this offseason. They've whipped
too many off seasons in a row. And so if
you don't end up with the big fish, you've got
to get a couple of decently sized fish to go
along with it, to try and sell to your to
(45:57):
the fans, and maybe next year makes a lot or sense.
And when when certain people say certain things, you've got
to think that it is somewhat realistic. David Griffin, I mean,
he doesn't benefit from any of this, so I can
understand why he's saying that, because maybe he talks to
people and they're saying, this is how it's gonna go down.
Karen Butler was on with Doug Gottlie, who's filling in
(46:20):
for Colin Cowhard, earlier and Karen Butler said, look, I
think he's going to the Lakers like those are people
that when they talk, you listen because they don't really
have any skin in the game. There's no They're just
gonna speak and be honest about it. The Lakers have
to show something this offseason. Here's the question I'll throw
back to you if they get Lebron James. If the
(46:41):
if the Lakers end up with Lebron James and he
doesn't win a championship, there is it a failure? Um? No,
I don't think so either, because I think it was
all about providing hope to the organization again, because they
have been awful for so long that this is all
about providing hope. This is all about selling the idea
(47:03):
of by if you're not gonna win one for us
at least bias sometimes so we can try and gain
more traction and maybe Golden State just wears out. I
don't think it's a failure at all. And I think
if if you view it that way, and if you
look at it as he needs to win a title,
or else this is a total failure. Then you're looking
at it from the wrong place. Yeah, and and I
do think with those names that that David Griffin put together,
(47:25):
you can only put Lebron in that conversation. If you
were to take those four players, if you took Lebron,
it took any of the two with Lebron being out
of the equation, then you know what, you don't even
have a championship team. Like if you had if you
had Kauai and Paul George, or if you had Kauai
and DeMarcus Cousins, they're not a championship team even close.
(47:47):
I mean, in fact, you can make the argument that
the Pelicans and Anthony Davis, even though they acquired him
the last season, you know, the season before the one
that we just had, the Pelicans took off with out
DeMarcus Cousins, and that Anthony Davis, who was great but
did deal with injuries time and again, really took off
without DeMarcus Cousins there. And maybe it could have been
(48:09):
the play of Drew Holiday or other pieces or the
Merritage trade. Yeah, Rondo, you can throw all those factors in,
but the one factor that you can't ignore that de
Marcus Cousins wasn't there, so Lebron doesn't make them a
championship contender. But I yeah, I agree with you that
it would change. It wouldn't the championship or bust is
what I'm trying to say, isn't isn't the the main goal.
(48:32):
What would be interesting, and we've compared Lebron's decisions in
Cleveland and Miami, is what would happen after a couple
of years in l A. Because you would expect Lebron's
game to maybe step back a bit, and would they
still be able to bring in pieces with pieces want
to go there? How would they adjust now of filling
out a championship team if it isn't e a championship
(48:53):
team right away, and that would be on the shoulders
than if rob Bo Lincoln, Magic Johnson. That's more of
a question and maybe easier than the job said they
had to do in Cleveland or they had to do
in Miami and trying to put guys together just because
l A seems to be like a destination all these
players would like to go to. Here's the other part
of this too, So his age and we know he's
doing crazy superhuman things, and and he's doing stuff that
(49:15):
no player physically has ever done before at his age.
But understand that what you're watching go deeper. There are
points during the postseason where you show him not getting
back on defense, conserving energy here, and he's doing it
for small spurts throughout. It's really smart. It's what Floyd
Mayweather did later in his career when his legs went away.
He learned to fight on the ropes and he was
(49:36):
smart and he would let guys wear themselves out and
then he would take over latent fights because he was
still in good condition. And that's smart and it was
a smart approach. And you can do that even during
the season when you're in the Eastern Conference because there's
a lot of bad teams. Now you're in the West.
You can't just give away that many games in the
West because that's a lot to try and make up.
(49:57):
You can't just not play one night it or rest
one night and we'll get him on the back end
another night. Because you could be in in Portland one
night and you could be in Golden State the next
on the back and back I mean or back to back.
I mean, like there's there's just a lot more to
it than I think people just assume that this is
a Once you get him, it's all over. What are
(50:19):
you really getting though, I mean, you're getting the name,
I get it. But he's still approaching his mid thirties.
He's got a lot of mileage. We know how this goes.
It always goes this way, where when one little injury
happens or something gives that's it. You saw it with
Kobe Bryant in l A before. I just think people
have to really be realistic about their expectations. If you
(50:42):
think Lebron go in to l As all of a
sudden going to meet a title, understand that that if
you want a title, you better get it in that
first two years, because after that it's over. It's over.

eliminate Cleveland from a possibility of where Lebron would play
(52:28):
next year? No, not at all. I mean, he obviously
still could sign a five year deal with them, which
would give him more money than he could get anywhere
else about two hundred seven million. He could still do
a short term deal with them. He'd lose, you know,
a couple of hundred thousand dollars, Like if he did
a one year deal or one in one year deal,
he loses a couple of hundred thousand this year, but
(52:51):
our next year. But I think he could spirit um.
So No, it doesn't stop that, although I do think
it's going to be the Lakers um and it could
even be you know, we've talked and I've even said,
uh that he probably doesn't go to l A by himself.
But if he really doesn't think, you know, Cleveland gives
(53:13):
him much of a chance of winning the championship. Houston's
kind of out of the picture because of just their
financial situation. Um, Philadelphia, he wouldn't want to stay there
long term, And if l A Is the place he
wants to be, then maybe he does come there knowing
everybody doesn't expect the championship right away, especially if you've
(53:34):
got a bunch of young kids and you're built this
year and then maybe next year if you get another
free agent. If you don't get one this year, Um,
then you make a big splash and try to win
it all. So I think it's leaning heavily towards the Lakers.
But I'm not gonna write Cleveland off. All right, Chris,
no more messing around, man. We're we're tired of the
games here. We're not here to play games. Where's he going?
(53:55):
All right? I know you're holding out on us. Where's
he going? No? Like I said, I think it's I
think is gonna be the Lakers. Um. I think Paul
George will go there too. And I know there's a
lot of talk, you know about him staying in Oklahoma City,
and maybe he will. Um, And more power to him
if he does, that's great, But I just I have
trouble coming up with any real rational reasons why he would.
(54:19):
He's from l A, He's wanted to play in l A.
You go there with Lebron, You've got a much better
chance to winning the championship than you're doing Oklahoma City,
which is none. Um, why in the world wouldn't he go?
I don't understand it. So I think they'll both be Lakers. Uh,
sometime next week, Chris Bruce start joining us here on
(54:40):
Fox Sports Radio. What is the person at your door?
Where do they think Lebron? I think that's my daughter,
and uh, she knows nothing about Lebron but his name
of the She's one of a few people on earth
that um isn't really caught up in where Lebron's going.
I would have done anything if that was Rob Parker
(55:01):
and that was Ron park Please Chris Bruce join us
here on Fox Sports Radio. He's jowed us knocks. I'm
Dan Buyer in for Doug Gottlieb. So. The Kauaii situation
also took a bit of a turn today as the
seventies sixers are reportedly interested in trading for the Spurs
forward where did the Kauai talk stand with the Lakers,
with the Celtics and now with Philadelphia. Well, what it
(55:24):
comes it's kind of come down to is this is
one of those Eastern conference hours, Philadelphia or Boston willing
to give up more, you know, more than the Lakers
for what could very well be a one year rental.
Now Philadelphia, one of the things he has going forward
is that, you know, Brett Brown was in San Antonio
(55:46):
with kaw Island as an assustant coach and from all intent,
you know, all signals, they had a pretty solid relationship.
So two things. One, they start off with a good
foot and maybe Kauai feels comfortable enough of him to
maybe stay there long term. And too, they have a
relationship where they may be able to find out from
(56:08):
Kauai you know what he's thinking about the future and
the chances of him staying there. Now, everything I've been
told is that Kauai is l A or busted. This
is from people close to him. Uh, not just Lakers.
I mean, maybe the Lakers have a slight edge over
the Clippers, but he wouldn't mind the Clippers at all.
But he wants to be in l A and that
(56:30):
he would likely tell teams, I'm I'm not signing long
term with you, um, but maybe you grew like Oklahoma
City and you take a chance and and we'll see
if they end up getting Paul George. They took a
shot and maybe it'll work. Um. Look, Philly or Boston
has A would have a great season with Kauai. They
(56:50):
probably one of them would probably be in the finals, um,
and they'd have a shot at winning it. So maybe
that would be enough to convince him to stay. But
how much do you give up to do in a
situation like that. We know what the Lakers will give up.
They'll pretty much give up everything. Um, And so that's
(57:11):
what it's gonna come down to. Spurs with much rather
deal with one of those Eastern teams, and if they
can get a comparable package, then he's going east. How
concerned should teams around league? Crisprus are joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio. How concerned are people around the
league with the severity of Kawhi Leonards injury? Because that's
almost been been forgotten. But if you're a team and
(57:33):
it's really this serious that you missed almost an entire year,
wouldn't that kind of factor into your decision as to
whether or not you bring this guy in. Yeah, you
don't hear a ton to talk about that. I mean, obviously,
every team that that potentially trades for him or does straightforward,
they're gonna have their doctors examine him. They're gonna look
at him really closely and you know, make sure they're
(57:55):
comfortable with it. But at this point, I mean, the
people I've talked to are like, we we we believe
he's gonna come back, and he's gonna come back fine. Um,
So I don't hear a lot of talk about there
being too much concern with that. But again, they're gonna
look him over with a fine tooth comb for sure.
Christus started joining us here on Fox Sports Radios. We're
(58:16):
in for Doug Gottlie. He's Jowa Stocks, I'm Dan Buyer.
I got another one in Kauai and it's actually Lakers um.
From the Lakers side of things, we know that we've
heard that San Antonio wants brandon Ingram and then there
was an l A Times report that t is the
Lakers have not included brandon Ingram in any of the talks.
Is there a reason? Are the Lakers just completely messing
this up by trying to slow play this or not
(58:38):
give a great offer. Your thoughts on this brandon Ingram deal.
Is it true that they haven't put Ingram in a
in a deal with san Antonio? I believe they have
talked about brandon Ingram with san Antonio. Now you know,
I don't wanna shoot down anybody's reporting, Um, but there's
no way they're getting this done spout Brandon and there.
(59:01):
It's just no way. And especially if you know there's
reports that san Antonio doesn't want Lionzo Ball and that
makes all the sense in the world, just because it
looks hard. Um. And they do have a point guard
that they like a lot to jan j Bury, who's
not much of a shooter himself, so you wouldn't probably
wouldn't want him and Alonzo, both of them not being shooters,
(59:22):
so uh, that could be you know why they also
don't want linso so. But yeah, Brandon Ingra was gonna
be in that deal if it's made. Uh, and probably
Kyle Kuzmin as well. And I think those are two
players that Gregg Popovich could make a lot out of.
And that's the thing with the Spurs. At the end
of the day. Even though we understand you don't want
(59:44):
to send him West, you don't want to send him
to a conference rival. At the end of the day,
you have to make the best deal for yourself. And
if it comes from the Lakers, then you deal with
the Lakers and you build your younger guys into a
good a team and you go from there. Um. And
you know, again, like I said, they'd come down to
(01:00:05):
what Philly or Boston because Boston can obviously offer a
ton really can offer a nice deal too. Um with
draft picks and stuff like that. That's why they wouldn't
got that Miami pick on draft nights. So we'll see
how far they're willing to go though, for a guy
that could be a rental Cristoper started with us here
on Fox Sports Radio, Dan Buyer, Jonas knoxon for Doug Gottlieb.
(01:00:28):
What would be considered a failure this offseason for Magic
Johnson and the Lakers. Well, I think in some people's eyes,
they would certainly look at it us as a failure
if they don't get any of these big name free
agents now and and throwing coal Island he's not a
free agent. But if they don't trade for him. Um,
I would not go that far myself, but I think
(01:00:50):
some people would look at it like man Paul George
was all but signed, sealed and delivered and you didn't
get him. You know. I, however, would say I do
agree with Magic on the two year plan because you
got Jimmy Butler, who loves Hollywood coming up next year.
You got Clay Thompson, who obviously asked connections to the
Lakers through his dad coming up, And how long and
(01:01:13):
how many people are Golden State gonna be able to
pay at some point? You know, for Max Salardy, that's
gonna be tough. So even if you don't, let's say
you strike out this summer, and where would Lebron go?
I mean, would he stay in Cleveland on a one
year deal and then one look to come here in
twenty nineteen with another free agent? I think that'd be
(01:01:35):
a possibility. You know, Kevin Durant, you know, what does
he do with Golden State? Does he do a one
and one and keep his options open? So you would
have a lot of opportunities to get another guy. And
let me you know, let's not forget Kawhi Leonard. If
some if the Spurs were to keep him all year
or trade him East, there still would be the great
(01:01:56):
chance that he comes to the Lakers as a free agent.
So the key for the Lakers what what would be
a failure here? It is if they strike out on
the big names and then go spend all their cap
room up or mediocre players. That would be a strikeout.
But I don't think they're dumb enough to do that.
If they don't get the big name stars, then they'll
(01:02:17):
spend money or maybe a one year deal, you know,
a big twenty million dollars for somebody, maybe in Isaiah
Thomas um and you know, they'll make sure they maintain
their cap space so they can go after guys next summer.
What about the Marcus Cousins If does he have the
possibility to be a Laker? And would that be a
win or a loss if you're the Lakers. Yeah, there
(01:02:38):
are some people that say they like him. I've heard that. Um,
I'm not a guy that's too high on the markets.
I mean great individual skills and numbers obviously, But look,
Mary's got the chilles injury. So we don't know when
he's coming back next year. It might be January for
all we know. Or maybe longer um and then as
(01:03:00):
it was when he was healthy, I mean, never led
the team to the playoffs. Now I've I heard I
haven't really confirmed it, but I heard it from pretty
good source that New Orleans offered him three years, sixty
million and he turned it down. So he wants big money.
Um So, I I gotta be honest. If I'm a
(01:03:20):
Laker fan, I wouldn't get overly excited if they got
DeMarcus Cousins because I just to me, he might be like,
he's better than Kevin Love. But you know, Kevin Love
was that guy that put up a ton of numbers
in Minnesota but never led you to the playoffs, and
his numbers were astronomical, kind of like demarcuss Um. But
(01:03:41):
if Wendy's not attached, then I I it's hard for
me to get too excited about it. That wouldn't be
a failure, but it would be a severe disappointment I
think for the Lakers if that's all they came away
with this summer. Crisper started with us here on Fox
Sports Radio Last one for me. Um, So, you're you're
hosting with Rob Parker every single Sunday. You do that
(01:04:04):
from three to six Pacific time six to nine Eastern time.
You're doing the podcast and you're always on Fox Sports one.
You're a Fox Sports Radio NBA insider, an analyst. But
when you were just an insider, okay, before you added
everything else to to what it is that you do.
How crazy is this next forty eight hours for the
insiders that cover the NBA, with the amount of reports,
(01:04:27):
phone calls, text message and everything else that you get. Oh,
it was nuts. It was I'm glad I'm not uh
solely in that role. I mean, honestly, that's the big
reason why I left ESPN. You know, they wanted to
keep me strictly in that role, and Fox was offering
me more analysis, more opinion commentary and things like that.
(01:04:49):
And um, I would be typically for free agency, I
would stay in Bristol for about two straight weeks, live
in the hotel and work around the clock. Um I've
been the student. I'd be in the studio on Sports
Center and all the TV shows, and in between shows,
you're on the phone, You're talking with people, you're texting
(01:05:09):
with people, You're obviously keeping your eye on the Internet
and Twitter. Um. And then when you get back to
the hotel. When you're done with your TV hits, you're
basically doing the same thing you you get. I mean,
this is no exaggeration. There would be nights when you
get maybe two two hours sleep. Um, and it's just constant.
(01:05:32):
Now you know, it's not perpetual. It's not gonna keep
going forever and ever. You know there is there is
a light at the end of the tunnel, which is
usually around you like ten three levels or twelve or
something like that. But for those two weeks or so,
it is madness, madness. And again I'm glad I'm not
(01:05:52):
in that role anymore. Believe me. Here I'm Sunday nights
at six o'clock Eastern time. It's co host to the
Odd Couple throughout part here here on Fox Sports Radio
or NBA analyst and Incenda Chris Bruce Sard. Thanks Chris,
We appreciate the time. And yeah, good luck over the
next week. Alright, guys, summer's here, which means it's time
to get to the ballpark. But working without a car, Bradory,
(01:06:12):
you'll be watching from the couch. Luckily, Auto Zone offers
free battery testing, so you can be a part of
the action with free services from auto Zone. You can't
lose get in the zone. Auto Zone, Dan Buyer Jonas
knocks him for Doug gott Leeper on Fox Sports Radio.
Coming up next here on fs are you will not
believe what the NFL is trying to do. One of
the sneakiest moves in the history of the league. That's
(01:06:35):
coming up next here. But for all the latest from
around the world of sports. Um, just lay on the horns.
Let everybody know, let the world know that you right
now are getting the latest from Steve to Sayer. Lay
on the horns. Become a friend of all those who
are around you. Yes, NBA news led by Lebron He
declined all the red carpet out for Steve and urinates
on it. Hey, hey, hey, Lebron will be a free
(01:06:58):
agent starting Sunday. J agent notified the Calves this morning.
According to Cleveland dot Com, Lebron James, at age thirty three,
average twenty seven points, nine rebounds, nine assists per game
last season and then in the playoffs thirty four points
per game, nine rebounds. Ninus is Nick Center and his
cantor will exercise his option to stay in New York.
It's worth over eighteen million dollars, the e r A
(01:07:20):
leader in the major leagues. Jacob deGrom was due to
start for the Mets at Miami tonight. That start has
now been pushed back to Saturday due to a family issue.
Tim Tebow and the Mets Jane has made the Double
A Eastern League All Star Team. He's batting two sixty
one overall, hitting over three hundred this month. The Mets
are facing a Miami team this weekend, by the way,
that's worse than the National League thirty two and fifty.
(01:07:41):
The best teams in baseball are facing off all weekend.
It's Boston at the Yankees. The Red Sox with four
wins in a row up to fifty five victories already
this season, their game ahead of New York for best overall.
Mark Boston acquired Steve Pierce from Toronto. He's betting over
to ninety. As for other news, the World Cup off today,
but the knockout stage begins tomorrow ten am e Eastern
(01:08:03):
Time on Fox TV France against Argentina the Round of
sixteen opener. Then Portugal faces three and oh Uruguay at
two pm Eastern Tomorrow Sunday morning at Spain against toast
Russia Monday morning, Brazil against Mexico. Guys, from now on
in this tourney, every World Cup game must have a winner,
no tie games, overtime or penalty kicks if necessary, and
each loser is out. It's like a March Madness bracket.
(01:08:26):
In fact, you and you can see him on Fox
and Fox Sports one. So just like you have throughout
the group stage, thank you a ton on Fox TV,
in fact, for far more on a regular non cable
channel than we've gotten for many, many years, maybe ever.
In World Cup in this country is the only way
to do it. Network TV, you know, like there it
is big, big events. Put it on the big one
(01:08:46):
for a guy who doesn't like soccer. Steve sort of,
you know, it's amazing that is Steve di Seger. I'm
Dan Buyer, He's Jonas Knocks. John Romos is here as
well as we are in for Doug Gottlieb online car
shopping Cabby confusing not anymore with dru pres from True Car.
Now you can know the exact price you'll play for
your next car. So visit YOURUE card to enjoy a
more confident car buying experience. Uh Dano, Yes, We've got
(01:09:08):
to get to something here, all right, because we know
this weekend is all about the NBA, right all right,
So the NBA has got free agency, they're gonna be
the talk of the town. We also know that the
NBA and the NFL try and compete from time to
time for storylines. You know, the NFL will take a
step back in life. College football have the big stage
because it's you know, it's a feeder system. It's it's
(01:09:30):
football and football. The NBA will step back and let
march madness have its day, and they'll even let them
have their commentators or their broadcasters like they do with
Turner and Barkley and Kenny Smith and e J and
all those guys going over to work college games. But
when they're going head to head, it's about who can
steal headlines. And so we decided, why don't we come
up with a few ways that the NFL will try
(01:09:53):
and steal headlines from the NBA this weekend. Oh my god,
they are. How do you know it's gonna be that song? Alright, Daniel,
the magic fingertips of John Ramos pulling it out of nowhere,
The Magic Man, by the way John Ramos Show in
an hour. Here we go today, Ready for this? Right? Okay,
(01:10:16):
here's option one another Marvin Lewis contract extension. Do you
think he gets? They just tack on another half year,
like another six months for Marvin, so that we can
break that down and go into further details to how
much a guy has gotten for not winning anything. Do
you think that's a possibly? I think that would be
shocking to see Lewis is now under contract through the season.
(01:10:39):
That would be would be shocking on so many levels.
That would be just as shocking as taking these stripes
off of the Yes. Yes, Speaking of uniforms, how about
this headline to to steal it Buccaneer's announced cream Sickle
uniforms are back. Yes, of course and going with it.
(01:11:00):
You knew where I was going with it. I didn't.
I wouldn't careful Lebron James signed with the Bucks. You know,
if the cream Sickles are back, then the Tampa Bay
Bucks would be in their rightly home of those creamsicle uniforms.
I'm into that. Okay, what about this? What about Ben
Roethlisberger hinting at retirement again. That'll make it three in
a row. That's three years in a row. He's done it.
(01:11:22):
I'm wondering if maybe him not hinting, saying like, hey,
I'm all in, I'm all in Pittsburgh. Oh yeah, that's right.
He did that with Mason Rudolph two months after. I
don't know if he's going to be back again. I'm
not I'm not sure. Ben there done that. I see
what you did? Oh how about this headline that could
steal it from the NBA. The Raiders announced their return
(01:11:43):
to Oakland in three after three years in Vegas. So
they're saying we're gonna go to Vegas for three years
but then come back to Oakland. That I think would
catch a lot of people by surprise. And then let
me tell you how I would break down that if
I was If I was doing a show and that
was the headline, all right, it would have four angles
so I could reset it four times throughout the show.
The first would be, Um, what are they scared of
(01:12:04):
in in Las Vegas? And I would I would go
over all the brothels that are there, all the people
that hand out the pamphlets to get a hooker, go
to go to your room with shrimp cocktail for twenty bucks. Uh.
Then I would talk about which raider will be down
the most money because of his gambling problem. That will
be an aspect during his time. And then one of
the other angles, and I'm still deciding on the other one,
(01:12:24):
it would be whether John Gruden is still there for
the move back to Oakland. But then the other one
would be what does the O dot co look like
when they go back to it? All right? So that
would be a four pronged story there if I if
they could feed us with that, I could talk about
it all throughout the course of the week. That would
be would I'll tell you what, you can just go
back and forth Vegas Oakland storyline after storyline. I like
(01:12:45):
the Grouden one that would be. That would be a
great one, especially I'm sure he'd probably be caught off
guard if they ended up moving back to oak What
about this dan a Colin Kaepernick update. Oh, that would
be something that would be divisive enough be a little
bit of a storyline, like what if he actually signed
with a team? I think you could also put Johnny
Manzel into that as well. But that Kaepernick actually signing
(01:13:07):
with a team, I think wood top anything that happened
to the NBA there, there's no doubt like if he
joined the team, that would trump anything that we would
see in the NBA. I also think that this would
as well. The Chargers moved from l A to a
city called Phone, I'll be known as the Phone Chargers.
About that, yes, yes, yes, the Chargers. That's good. You're yeah,
(01:13:32):
not bad? Is good? Here's one for you, Danil. What
about a picture surfacing on social media of Brady and
Belichick shotgunning beers right now? That would yes, because then
it would dispel all the bs that we've been that
that people have been spewing about their relationship being on
(01:13:54):
the rocks and they don't, they can't stand each other,
and there they are with a Sam Adams can at
all boy can just smoking it there in New England.
Maybe smoking some cigars as well, but not doobies. Nope,
that wouldn't be but some nice cigars. Sorry, weed freaks,
not your time. How about this? NFL mandates all all coaches,
(01:14:15):
including assistance, be in full uniform for a game for games.
I think yes, yes, so you have to just like
Major League Baseball, you have to be in shoulder pats,
helmet as well. On the sidelines. I think that is
something that would overshadow and be a free agent. All right,
I got one more Danny ready for Okay, I got
two more? So alright, I got one right, I'll make
(01:14:35):
up another. All right, I got one more Dan. How
about the Chicago Bears finally get contracted from the league, then, alight,
it wouldn't be a bear market. That would be fun,
would be fun for the whole family. We could break
that down for hours. I got three words for you, guys.
(01:14:58):
Sixty yard line. Oh yeah, you're yes, Yes, that's it.
Sixty yard I'm into it. Sixty feel free. Sixty yard line.
That'll get you talking about the Oh that is that
is awesome. I would love that you got the final
one coming in two. What would gets you talking about
(01:15:20):
the NFL instead of the NBA this weekend? Welcome to
the Lambau Dome. Yes right, Lambo Dome coming in good
because that way, like just all that bo in one dome.
I mean you'd have to fumigate that thing afterwards. All
the Blaze orange would come in the form of T
(01:15:41):
shirts in the crowd then for Lambo Dome. So good. Well, hey,
wait to wait, you know that's how the NFL can
steal those headlines from the NBA. I realized part way
through that the more clarity on the helmet rule, the
p D suspension, and the Dez Bryant signing, I realized
that I took it the segment way too serious and
I just like, you know, I'm just gonna go comedy
(01:16:02):
the rest of the way. I realized, you know, I
shouldn't be taking it this serious. None of these are
happening anyways. What are we talking about? All right? Dan
Buyer Jonas Knocks in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox

Is eliminated the Vancouver Grizzlies from his list. Interesting, that
is market down, Okay, all rights sand deep reporting. Yes,
we will, we will market down. By the way. The
Vancouver Grizzlies color scheme, it was nineties and it was
a big bear and it was big letters. But the
(01:17:29):
aqua nature of the color scheme, like the the lighter
to the to the like kind of uh teal if
you will for the Charlo Harnets, was really a good look.
I really liked the Vancouver Grizzlies look at that time,
not all into the I don't mind the different shades
of blue of the Memphis Grizzlies, but I liked the
Vancouver Grizzlies and that sort of green. It really brought
out the color in Bryant, big country reeves his eyes,
(01:17:52):
you know, like it really did it really went well? Yes,

We are in for Doug Gottlieb today here at the
Doug Gottlieb Show. And even though Doug's not here, we
still like to well do this. This is where we
(01:18:18):
take a portion of another show on Fox Sports already
or Fox Sports one that was interesting or intriguing. And
Doug Gottlieb was in on the Herd all week for
Colin Cowherd and had this to say about the rumors
that Kyrie Irving could be dealt by the Celtics. Let's
start with what I know. If you you're gonna sit
here and tell me that the Celtics are going to
include Kyrie Irving in a trade, I'm going to stop
(01:18:39):
listening to what you're saying. I don't think this. I
know this based upon two people I know in the
Celtics front office that they love Kyrie and he loves
playing there and they believe that Kyrie Irving he's not
the best point guard in the league. He's right there
in the discussion and they know that he's a part.
It fits into how they do what they do and
(01:18:59):
why they do it. The only concern with Kyrie Irving
would be the knee. They believe is Nei'll be fine.
That's their only concern. They think Kyrie is a better
defensive player than you think. They think he's a better
passer than you think, and they already know that everybody
knows what a great score he is, especially in and
around the basket. Doug Scott sources. We've got opinions, and
(01:19:23):
mine are the same as Dougs. I don't see why
Boston would, especially in a deal for Kyrie Irving Jonas.
It wouldn't make sense for Boston to trade one guy
because they were afraid he was going to leave via
free agency, for another guy who could leave via free agency,
and to bring in another guy where you seem pretty
good at that position anyway, and to be lessening the
(01:19:44):
depth that you would have at your other position by
trading Kyrie Irving. It just makes no sense to me
to see whether it would be to San Antonio or
any other place for Kyrie to be out of the
Celtics uniform next year. Well, people took Kyrie Irving's comments
when he said it wouldn't make sense for me to
sign a long term extension now in Boston. They took
that as, Wow, he doesn't want to stay around in Boston. No. No,
(01:20:06):
he was being honest. We should appreciate that. You know,
he didn't avoid the question. He answered it honestly, it
doesn't make sense for me to do it. It would
make more sense to wait and then see what all
is available. But I do know this. He was on
a podcast Kyrie Irving with Bill simmons Um a week
maybe two weeks ago, and he talked about how just
(01:20:28):
within the last two weeks he wouldn't had dinner with
Brad Stephens, Brad Stephen's wife, all their kids. Does that
seem like a guy who's miserable in that situation? Seemed
like I was miserable and that when that relationship. No,
he just had dinner with the guy's entire family. So
I wouldn't look at this as Kyrie Irving not signing
long term means that he wants out or he wants
(01:20:49):
to go. He's just it's a smart business move, makes sense.
The only thing more ridiculous than the Kyrie Irving trade
rooms that we've heard are the Alonzo Ball trade rumors
for the Lakers. I I cannot believe that people actually
thought that this is that that he would be a
(01:21:10):
piece of this. Jonas, I don't understand. It's it's I
don't want to use the term fake news, but why
would you think Lonzo Ball would be put in any
equation to the San Antonio Spurs for all of the
reason and all of the reasons that we have talked about.
And it's not just LaVar, it's what the Spurs have,
it's what the Spurs need, It's what the Lakers would
(01:21:31):
be replacing with Alonzo Ball. To me, never seemed to
the equation. That is much more far fetched and ridiculous
than even these Kyrie Irving being traded rumors have been.
Could you imagine like how that call would go with
Greg Popovich and listen, guys, there's gonna be no deal
for Kawai Leonard unless you throw in the guy with
the blow hard dad who shoots like a praying mantis. Sorry,
(01:21:52):
it's just not gonna happen. I mean, you want our guy,
we gotta have ears. It's the way it goes. Today's
show is brought to you by True Car. Car shopping
can be confusing with is like dealer, price, list, price,
and invoice. True Car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want, so you could recognize a
good price when you're ready to buy a new or
used car. Visit True Car to enjoy a more confident
car buying experience. Yeah, training these guys with one year
(01:22:14):
left on their deals before they can become free agents
may seem like all the rage, except for the teams
that don't want to give up anything for these people,
knowing that they would leave town. All I want is chaos.
I just want to have a bunch of stuff to
talk about this weekend. That's it. I thought it was
crazy this week. I can't believe. And gen Romo said,
don't look now. More news coming out from the NBA
the final day that players can opt in or out
(01:22:36):
of their contracts, with their teams still waiting on a
DeAndre Jordan's decision from the Clippers Center or whether he's
gonna opt in for another year in l A or
become a free agent will find that out by midnight
Eastern time. Tonight, at nine o'clock Pacific time in Los Angeles,
the big news of the day Lebron James opting out
of his contract becoming a free agent. Nothing that was
(01:22:56):
too surprising. It just became official and there is another
chance that Cleveland can sign Lebron James. But now it
likely takes the Houston Rockets out as a possible destination.
They'd really have to put something together salary wise to
make it work. You couldn't do a sign and trade.
In my mind, it makes the l a Lakers even
more of an option that in a whole lot more
(01:23:18):
on a busy day in the NBA on the verge
of free agency, and now we're starting to get the
finger pointing. Some of the finger pointing is going on.
Dan This came out according to um Adrian Warderanowski and
others at ESPN that basically Lebron James is unwillingness to
commit beyond this past season made it difficult for the
(01:23:38):
Calves to go out and make a trade for Paul
George last summer. So now it's turned into well, we
couldn't do this because he did that so now you're
gonna get this whole back and forth because I think
Cleveland understands that he's probably gone. The reports that Dan
Gilbert is not that bummed out that Lebron James is
gone because he wants his team back. It's almost like
(01:23:58):
Dan Gilbert is sore of pushing along the idea of
let's move on, let's get over this guy, and let's
get back to where we were before. I thought it
was from the understanding that Kevin Love was going to
be traded in a deal, a three team deal with
the Nuggets and Pacers, but that it was Kevin Pritchard,
who's the one who pulled out the Pacers general manager
(01:24:19):
to end up doing the deal with Oklahoma City. Otherwise
you would have had a three team deal that would
have also involved Gary Harris and the Nuggets being a
part of a trade that was That was my understanding,
jonas of what we've had for the last nine months
of the trade that was close to going down, that
it was actually agreed upon. I didn't realize that that
this was the reason and that now it's on the
(01:24:42):
shoulders of Lebron James. Well, if there, if there is spin,
like no other spin. This sure seems to be Yeah.
And and look at the timing of it. You know,
it comes out the day that he has his opt
out and he decides he wants to go somewhere else.
Then there's another report that Dan Gilbert is happy that
that that Lebron James is evening he wants his team back.
This is all leading to not that big of a deal. Um,
(01:25:06):
maybe Dan Gilbert, who we know is a red ass.
He he got upset about it before. Maybe he thinks, well,
how can I ruin this big unveil this big surprise
before Lebron James can do it? And so I mean,
I would actually love it if Dan Gilbert came out
publicly and said we're not offering Lebron James a contract extension.
He has disrespected you, the fans for the last time.
(01:25:27):
On iin owner just say we're spinning, let's go. Why not?
Why not? If the Lakers, excuse me, if the Cavaliers
had Paul George in Cleveland last year with that Kevin
Love trade, are they still good enough to beat the Warriors?
Is Paul George the difference between four games and and
taking away Kevin Love, who by the way, had twenty
(01:25:48):
points and ten rebounds average throughout that NBA Finals. Are
they are? Are they even close to winning a championship?
I don't think so. I don't think with what they
had around them. And I just bring it up because
it's it's another like twist in the conversation of Hey,
let's also throw Kevin Love under the bus, because Kevin
Love hasn't you know, done anything here, and this is
(01:26:09):
Lebron's guy. I just I find all this stuff garbage.
I love it, though, man, because this is telling you
what's going to happen next. Okay, this behavior is telling
you how it's gonna go down because of Lebron James
had any thought that he wanted to stick around in Cleveland,
whether it be for a year or for the four
or five years whatever. I'm so lost on the contract
extensions in the years and all that crapt the opt out.
(01:26:32):
But if he decided he wanted to stay in Cleveland,
if I'm Lebron James and I'm hiding out in my
I don't know, bat cave, whatever the hell he's at,
like he's in some like like some some chamber somewhere
out in uh like this off to the sea, like
he's Pippi Longstocking or something and they're making a decision
and what the hell is that? Man? Uh yeah, did
(01:26:53):
the decision cave? What is that? By the way, my
buddy true story got to go off on a on
a rand here. My buddy's dad Ad was going to
open up his own bar, and he wanted to call
it the shaved Cave. Yeah, it's whereout that copy written? Yeah,
so that's saved the shaved Cave. Yeah. You can just
use your imagination and think what he's alluding to when
(01:27:14):
you hear that. Um. But just like this whole if
I'm Lebron James and I'm camping out and I'm seeing
these leaks come out, I know where they're coming from.
I know whose side they're coming from. So that's telling
me I'm out of here, like I don't need this crap.
And then you start narrowing it down what are the
other options? And to me, this is where the Lakers
pull ahead. The second best part of these rumors, and
it's fast becoming number one, is is not looking at
(01:27:36):
the ramifications of the hypotheticals where these rumors come out,
it's where did it come from? Like that's all almost rivaling.
Where or what could possibly happen if these rumors are
out there? By the way, Um, did a Little Boy
Joe ever broadcast live from the Shaved Cave. I'm not
that's such an inside joke. Nobody else gets that, But
I just wanted to see a smile on John Ramos's face. Yeah,
(01:27:58):
let's peel back the curtain. You know, sometimes times we
do U shows in between the show here on Fox
Sports Radio, and John pointed out, how if you had
a fake radio name, what if you were stuck with
that until you're older. You know, it's like it's very bizarre. Like, Um,
a lot of people still call the Undertaker the phenom.
He's sixty, Okay, he's not a phenomen anymore. He's he's
(01:28:20):
too power bombs away from being on Cocoon Part two? Okay.
And and and like boys to men, like your men,
not yes, it's over. Yeah, we can get rid of
boys too. You could just be like men. Yeah. B J.
Penn is an m M M A fighter. They called him
the Prodigy. He's retired. Okay, he's basically retired. He doesn't
fight anymore, So that does that name doesn't work anymore? So,
(01:28:41):
John was pointing out how when you have to carry
a fake radio name later on in your career, what
if your name was little Boy Show? And what is
your dad Dade always a host which show Little Boy
Joe and Jim Bob Little Boy Joe on the Mona
nds years and running one of the John's great He
(01:29:05):
just pulled that oca he had sitting there. He's been
waiting to unveil it. You can you can find that
in a whole lot more on The John Ramo Show.
Coming up at the bottom of the hour, which you
won't get on the John Ramo Show is breaking NBA news,
all right, And and and Jonas. We had breaking news
here earlier this week on the Doug gott Leap Show.
As you and I were in for Doug As we
spoke with Nick Center and his cantor, and I tried
(01:29:28):
to convince him about how great a city of Milwaukee is,
because if Ennis Cantor opted out of his contract, there
was the thought that the Bucks would be interested in
signing him in free agency. Now we found out that
Ennis Cancer opted in with the Knicks today. In fact,
on his Twitter page had a picture of him saying
make the Knicks great. Again with him in the Knicks uniform.
(01:29:50):
So he's opting in with the New York Knicks. And
I just want to point this out. There are some
out there are saying that an ESPN report had and
its Cantor to the Knicks on Thursday. Well, we had
Ennis Cantor on Wednesday here on Fox Sports Radio. And
you tell me who broke the news when Ennis Cantor
joined us on Wednesday. I'm saying this from the beginning
(01:30:13):
of the season. I want to stay with the Knicks, man.
I mean, I love I love the fan basically, I
love the atmosphere, I love the city, I love the
organization everything. So I'll do anything to stay here. You
know there it is okay. I don't know what more
you would want. I would do anything, which in my book,
is under the umbrella of opting into your contract for
(01:30:35):
nineteen season. So if you want to go around and
say who broke the Ennis Cantor news, Jonas and I
did here on Fox Sports Radio. And for all you
negative Nancy's out there, they're gonna try and rain on
this parade, I got news for you. No, that was
not John Ramos doing an Ennis Cantor impression. That was
actually Ennis Cantor himself, so so chew on that. Yeah,
so we are actually breaking news here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:30:57):
That is this is the time of year though we
were thinking about this, like all the free agency and
all the rumors and the buzz and all that. It is.
You stole my story time of year. Dan, It's one
of my favorite things. One of my favorite things is
you stole my take. Yeah, because it's so impossible for
two people to have the same opinion. Hence the Democratic
or Republican party. Do you think they all have opposing opinions?
(01:31:20):
They're all just together. Stop you have the same opinion.
It's okay. The latest is I had that first? No,
I did I love love the little kid nature of
what we do. Honest question. When I leave to go
to the restroom, do you guys go do you hear
Dan and that John Murray a Lonzo ball thing like
this is like the nineteenth time I've heard it. Do
you guys say that? Because I am probably guilty of it,
(01:31:41):
and I just I say stupid stuff like that, you know,
And I'm like, oh no, please don't be in that group, Dan,
Please don't be in that group. But if you guys,
do I can. It's just since we're not on the
air right now, I can be honest and you're not
gonna judge me, and people listening to this won't judge me.
But I have never done that because I'm in such
a rush to get over to the liquor store that
I can't think about what promo is going on or
(01:32:03):
what you just said. I just need to get my
fix in. Oh my god, we're on oh man. Do
you like the chi letter to the Sixers deal that
has been reported today because it seems like the Celtics
and Lakers were the only teams Danny Ames says, okay,
we I don't think we're gonna do anything blockbuster, anything major.
Seems that the Celtics are out of it. The Lakers
apparently aren't putting brandon Ingram in the conversation into some reports,
(01:32:26):
but Chris Bruce had said that's that's not the case,
that brandon Ingram has been discussed. But now the Sixers
apparently in on it. I don't I don't buy I
don't buy Philly in Boston, and I don't have any
inside information, just gut feeling. I don't buy it because
what's the point like, why do you need to make
the move if you're Philly in Boston and you know
lebron is already leaving the conference. The half the work's done,
(01:32:50):
like audition by subtraction. This is This is why I
think there's some legitimacy to it. Is if you ever
go to a place where there's a fundraiser and there's
an auction, and they're an item that nobody has been on,
you'll be like, let's see if I can get this
for ten bucks, and then you write it down. Then
you'll write down and you're like, hey, I don't need
a hockey stick autographed by you know, the winning goalie
(01:33:12):
from the oh seven Stanley Cup, but for ten bucks,
why not? And so then you'll sign it. So maybe
the Sixers are like, okay, well, if the Celtics aren't
giving up anyone significance, and there are reports that Brandon
Ingram isn't being offered by the Lakers, why don't we
just throw something out there and see if it sticks.
So that's the only reason why I think maybe Philadelphia did,
since they're like, hey, maybe we could just really get
(01:33:33):
them on the cheap for a year and move on
from that it's like the old scalping take. Now, I've
never scalped tickets. I don't partake in anything like that,
but I've heard from people who may or may not
look identical to me, who have scalped tickets that the
move is when you walk up to bid on tickets, Um,
if you have sixty bucks on you, you only put
(01:33:53):
forty in your back pocket and you put the other
twenty in another pocket. So when they say, uh, yeah,
two tickets, seventy five bucks, all I got is forty,
and you only pull out the two twenties, And then
if they're really haggling, you go, oh, it's a matter
of fact, look at that. Here's another twenty. I got sixty. Now?
Is it one of those moves to where the sixers
are like, hey, listen, we'll give you this, this, this,
and this, and then they hog you a little bit
(01:34:15):
but not all the way. And the sixers are like, wow,
this is a real deal, like we could actually happen.
We've got a deal, We've got something. Oh my goodness,
how did we just get all right? Area did for
a pair of shoes? All right? Good stuff. Today's show

on Fox you can give me a d Jonas Knocks.
It is twenty minutes until the next edition of the
John Ramo Show. It is a show within a show.
(01:34:56):
It's like inception. It's it's strange, it's unique. It's done
nowhere else here on sports radio. So if you have
last minute request for the John Ramo Show, they are
still putting together the script as we speak at J S.
Ramos zero six. Where does the hashtag again? John? The
John Ramos Show coming up next here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:35:16):
A hall of famer is here, one of the most
honest guests that you will hear, a true hall of
famer is here and he joins you next here on
Fox He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer. That is John
Ramos and John Ramo Show coming up in about ten
minutes or so summers here, which means it's time to
get to the ballpark. But without a working battery, you'll
be watching from the couch. Luckily, auto Zone offers free
(01:35:37):
battery testing, so you can be a part of the action.
With free services from auto Zone, you can't lose get
in the zone. Auto Zone. No soccer today. World Cup
getting a day off before the knockout stage begins tomorrow
in Russia, and now it's it's a winner go home
sort of feel for the final sixteen in the World Cup. Yeah,
you got World Cup fever, Dan, I feel a little
(01:35:59):
unto the well I got a World Cup fever, um
because you know, the United States isn't in Germany got
knocked out. So any of the rooting, rooting, you know,
choices that I would have have kind of gone by
the wayside. I did say I picked Belgium last week
on our Sunday morning show. So I'm just gonna stick
with Belgium to win it. And that would be my
other other rooting hope. I wanna gonna go early. Watched
(01:36:22):
Mexico Brazil on Monday, Dan, it's my day off. I'm
gonna get up early. Who knows maybe have a cocktail.
Probably not though, and then just root for Mexico against Brazil.
If if, if you had to take a look at
all of this and how the World Cup has played out,
what do you think of the first two weeks of
the World Cup? What is the what is the top story?
(01:36:43):
The people that know nothing about soccer that feel the
need to give a take just because it's a sporting event.
You've got. I wish the transparency. Let's just be honest
about it. Just because WrestleMania is on. Don't pretend like
you watch every Monday night Raw. You know what I mean? Yes, yeah,
I know. I think it's it's it's very find maybe
the worst comparison I've ever given in my in my well, well,
(01:37:03):
I I look at it this way. I'm not a
soccer expert. So if we come in and we're filling
in on the Doug Gottlieb Show, I don't know as
much about soccer to fulfill the audience. So you end
up wanting to have a guest on or have someone
who can shed more light. It's not that you don't
watch or follow. There's just certain things that maybe I
(01:37:24):
would miss or not understand that it's as big of
a deal. So instead of trying to have a take
on why Germany fell short this time around and how
it seems to be a common theme, I'd rather ask
somebody else about, you know why why things are going
well in the World Cup or what is going well
in the World Cup and what's not now I will
I will say you know who. I do feel bad
for this weekend because we look, we've already broken down
(01:37:46):
how the NFL is going to try and steal headlines. Somehow,
you've got the World Cup, You've got NBA free agency.
Doesn't Wimbledon start this weekends? Thoughts, thoughts and prayers to
the organ organizers of Wimbledon who put that together. Nobody
will be a one. Wimbledon now moved a week later
and the actually the draw came out today and Roger
(01:38:09):
Federer and Raphael and Lydal could meet in the semifinals
if they if they continue to win at the All
England Club, so that that you wouldn't get a Doll
Federer final, you would only get a semifinal. So we
hope to touch base with Eric when all the US
Soccer Hall of Famer and three time World Cup veteran,
and I just said, I'm not going to break down
(01:38:30):
the World Cup unless we have somebody who really knows
what's going on. So let's get back to what we
know an NBA free agency, because this what we have
got is a decision by Lebron James now that he
has opted out of his contract. We have heard how
he doesn't want to have a circus anymore, that he
wants to just make his decision. We have heard Decision
Cave is now a place where he's going to make decisions.
(01:38:52):
We've heard Sam Amck of USA Today join us earlier
this week to say, Hey, I think maybe you could
see Lebron James make in a decision with the swoosh.
It's almost how Lebron is making the decision is not
just as important, but it's a it's a second place
to where he's going to go, just because of the
past that we've got with him, whether it be the
TV show or the or the piece that he did
(01:39:13):
an s I even how Lebron James announces his decision
is is intriguing. The Decision Cave. It's it's almost like
when you were he had a group of friends and
you guys got into a new fad when you were younger,
everything had to have a nickname, or everything had to
have like a like your fort had to have a
new name. Like every time he's got something coming up,
it's got some sort I'll bet if you've typed in
(01:39:35):
the hashtag decision cave, I'll bet it comes with one
of those little pictures to show that it's an official hashtag.
Because really, when NBA and NFL and Major League Baseball,
when a team goes to the postseason and they come
up with a hashtag, the only reason people type it
in is because they want to see the little picture
come up next to the hashtag that makes him. It's
(01:39:56):
almost like the prize and the happy Meal when they're younger,
and so like the ca as this past I'll postseason,
whatever it takes. The hell does that have to do?
What the hell does that have to do with the
Cleveland Cavaliers, has nothing to do with it. You just
want to see the dumb Calves logo show up next
to it. Just tried hashtag Calves or hashtag fake cast
or hashtag get angry like whatever, whatever you want to do,
(01:40:18):
that's fine, but whatever it takes has nothing to do
with it. I think decision Cave probably has one of
the emojis come up and it's got Lebron like on
a hammock overlooking like he's on a set that they're
filming a Corona commercial and it's Lebron James on a hammock.
Am I right? There is there is no there is
no logo to this decision cave, but there there are
(01:40:40):
many many sweets about decision Cave in the hashtag, including
one woman who took a picture of the pool at
her apartment complex and called it her decision cave, which
I always love because look at hey, check out my
view at my apartment that I have to share this
pool with with two other other gross people. We've got
a picture of Lebron's rental home or the beach home
(01:41:01):
that he's renting this week in the Caribbean. We've got
that with decision cave, and uh a bunch of bad jokes.
So that's what we've got with decision Cave. No logo
next to it, like this team, you know, this is
my crew with the Brewers logo popping up, none of that.
But it is just decision cave, and there's enough of
it out there. You know, Jeffrey Dahmer's decision cave. Oh no,
(01:41:23):
just a second before you say anything. I just want
to make sure that John Ramos is ready if we
need to, you know, get rid of anything, dump anything.
Go ahead, Jonas, give us what Jeffrey Dahmer's decision cave
is the freezer? There it is, John Romoss decision cave.
Decision cave is the microwave. I mean like that's like, look,
(01:41:44):
certain people have certain places where they make important decisions.
John decided I want to ruin Fox Sports Radio's kitchen,
so let me put in my mac and cheese for
an hour and a half. Okay, we all make decisions.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Lebron has
a has a cave somewhere on the Caribbean. John got
the microwave back. The decision cave for a lot of
guys is probably earlier in the morning when they when
they have an that's that is a true story. If
(01:42:09):
if that's your decision cave, then get in line with
many of us here at Fox Sports Rating and let
me ask you this. If the decision cave what was
your is what you're referring to in the morning. If
you don't have a paper and you don't have your phone,
what are you reading? That's a back of the toothpaste.
Um oh, because it doesn't come remotely close to that area. Um.
(01:42:34):
I'll tell you what a football preview magazine were to bring. Yes, yes,
not not the one that's in my backpack. I wouldn't
bring that one to work. That one. The other ones
stay within the walls like they've got a certain area
because I'm not gonna I'm not gonna cross pollinates, give
you will with the football magazines. But still, again, I
(01:42:55):
highly recommend go out and buy a football magazine. It'll
take you back twenty years. It's right. I do it
every year. Who cares if the information is dated. It's
still fun to look at. But that is what I
That's what I would probably, that's probably my choice. It's
very old school. I used to get the Ring magazine Boxing,
and it was so awesome because they'd give you this
preview of this undefeated fighter coming up. And then I'd
(01:43:16):
be reading their article and I go, where do I
know that guy from? Now? Where do I know this guy?
I know this guy from somewhere I've seen. Oh, he's
the guy that just got knocked out on Friday. Oh
so this is outdated now, all right, I get it.
That's the problem with publications. This stuff gets so outdated
because of the Internet that it's such a pain in
the ask. Oh, this is the Dug Gottlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer in
(01:43:38):
for Doug. We're gonna have to catch up with Eric
when Alda some other time, the US Soccer Hall of
Famer at three time World Cup veteran who he and
I once had a contest of Twitter followers because we
were in the same the same vicinity. Um, I'm I'm
still on like the same floor where Eric Whenaldas like
jumped up to twenty eight thousand, I'm still like in
the eight thousand, nine thousand range. He blew. Yeah, he
(01:43:59):
completely blew past me. It was a thing once that
we had here on Fox Sports Radio, and now he's
just blown us off and listen. Uh. I mean, Plus,
he's a Venture County guy where I live. He's a
Westlake guy. I'm a Thousand Oaks guy. Would have been
a fun little rival. But how about a round of
applause for us ladies? And gentlemen. That is how you
feel a segment when I guess, no show, We'll do
(01:44:20):
it sometimes. So we've got a couple of more weeks
a World Cup. He hangs out with the Crown and Acre,
which is an outhouse with a bar to come on
when all is the best, we'll catch up with him
some other time. We're gonna be doing this a couple
of days next week as well, so maybe we can
catch up with the US soccer. Great then, right now,
let's catch you up with Steve the Sager on what
is happening in the world of sports as he fills
us in on the latest. Hello Steve, Hello, coming out
(01:44:42):
of the decision cave. You know that's just gonna be
all over the next I'm doing four segments tonight. Actual,
the real decision cave is when you hear the husband
and a couple say, all right, we'll use the money
on furniture. That's the actual caving in on a decision
that I have heard many times. That's the real decision cave,
(01:45:03):
ladies and gentlemen. As for World Cup that you were
mentioning off today, Yes, the knockout stage begins on Fox
TV tomorrow ten am. Eastern time. France against Argentina. That's
the Round of sixteen opener. Then Portugal faces three and
oh Uruguay at two pm Eastern time tomorrow. Among the
Sunday morning it's Spain against host Russia. Monday morning Brazil
against Mexico. From now on, in this attorney, as we
(01:45:26):
mentioned earlier in the show, every World Cup game must
have a winner, no tie games anymore. If they have
to go to overtime, penalty kicks if necessary, and each
loser is out, it's like a March Madness bracket from
here on out. Lebron James declined his contract option. He
will be a free agent starting Sunday. Tiger Wood shot
a second round sixty five in Maryland. He moves up
(01:45:46):
to a tie for eleventh place. The co leaders at
nine under par Americans Brian Gay and Bow Hostler. The
Washington Capitals promoted Todd Reardon the head coach. He was
a four year assistant. They're responsible for defenseman. The draw
for wimbled was held today. Serena Williams could face the
number five seed in the third round next week. Major
League Baseball's Loan Mattenee is underway. Top of the second
(01:46:08):

see that. John. Yeah, I just have a feeling though
it's not gonna work out for him. Why do you

(01:51:02):
great to be on with you, Jeremy, Let's get the
quietest sounding commercial weekend find Oh sorry, let's hear it
for Motley Cruz Meadow week Drugs. I know everyone is
on social media going crazy right now for the Motley Boys,
but anyway, don't forget to stick around for their in

coming up, I know you've been waiting on this guy's
and honor of flirty Friday, I will give you my
top ten trades between third place teams in the A
O West and the n L Central. That almost happened.
Trust me, there are some stars on this list. But
right now, in honor of Lebron's big day, it's time
for our Lebron James l A round table. Let's do
it all right, Okay, we would send with some great
(01:51:49):
people to talk about Lebron James. Let's get it started
with me and our panelis. Let's start with Robert Garat.
He's our producer. He works on the show. He hosted
an NBA insiders such as Crisp Rusority, Chris Mannix. He
also hope it's the honor of being the only man
in our history to shut down the network for over
three minutes and live to tell about it. It's ro
It's Robert Gara. Robert, what's going on? Button Bob? I love?
(01:52:13):
This panel is gonna get better right now. It's our
newsman extraordinary, he's here at the network. Steve Seger is
our defending March Madness Bracket Challenge champion, and he made
it look easy that he that we refused to give
him the real grand prize. Steve Disager, Welcome to the
round table. Thank you. Good night guys. Uh, this panel
(01:52:34):
is getting even better. The king of Weekend Overnight is
here and he prided himself on being ahead of the curve.
In fact, this guy has had several of his features
stolen by TV and radio host around the country. Let's
get it up for jonas not this round table couldn't
get any better than well, least but not last, but
(01:52:56):
not least is our go to field reporter here As
he's been our go to Yes, go to field reporter
here Fox. He's been at every major sporting event in
the past five years, and his popularity is growing. For example,
he once had his golf podcast get downloaded thirty seven
times in less than a week. Lays, gentlemen, it is
(01:53:18):
Dan Bayer. And by the way, John, you can go
to Scott's office off of the show. Okay, Robert, this Uh,
this l a Lebron Brown table with all these great guys.
Let's get it started with you. I'll started out by saying,
is Lebron James coming to the Lakers. Yes, that's all
(01:53:39):
the time we have for you tonight. A big thanks
for everyone who tweeted in using the hashtag The John
Rommels Show also thanks to O not Them, Thanks a boy,
thanks to Bothery crew for beat tonight's special guest and
sorry fellas, We're gonna get to you next time. And
(01:53:59):
Robert on this Flirty Friday, I'll catch you on your backside.
Both there. Okay, um, well, you got to reveal a
glitch in the the end of the show, just a
moment ago, Danny, you want to reveal it is what
(01:54:19):
happened there? Well, I will say this, the the booking
department did book earth Wind and Fire, but they canceled,
They doused their own appearance and were replaced by Motley Crewe,
just not in enough time for the script apartment to
make any changes to their script. Oh man, like you
could not pick like there's nobody would ever confuse earth
(01:54:41):
Wind and Fire for Motley Crewe. That would never happen
except when you don't update the Microsoft document. I do
have an update. Earth Wind and Fire can be heard
on the John Ramo Show in September, so that that's
is true. And and I want to add just one
other thing, John appear only looks at me as a
guy that they sent to fields. Just to field reporter
(01:55:05):
don't Dann broadcast live from a field. Oh so good.
Hashtag John Romo Show. Make sure to get that in
all right, Dan Buyer, Jonas Knocks in front, gott leave
here on Fox Sports Radio. Get Dan on Twitter at
Dan Buyer on Fox. You can give me at the
Jonas Knocks. You have, I mean, all the time to
(01:55:26):
provide show content ideas to John Ramos. Plus get the
very latest on NBA free agency. All you have to
do is tweet at j S Ramos zero six. You
can ask him anything, but it's gotta be hashtag the
John Ramo Show coming up next. Last chance for pressing
sports information that needs to be passed along to you.
(01:55:49):
Do not go anywhere. Your weekend is going to suck
if you do not hear this. Find out what next
year on FS are. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm Dad Buyer.
That is John Ramos. Another great John Ramo show. And
it's been a fun week as we've been in Fort Doug.
He's been doing The Herd and for Colin Cowherd on
Fox Sports Radio. So it's uh, it's been a busy
(01:56:13):
week and it should be a busy weekend. It should
be a crazy next week with NBA free agency. Yeah,
who's who says the dog days are summer of summer.
Are here a crazy week ahead in the NBA if
it hasn't been crazy enough already. What's a potentially major
storyline in sports or a major sport that you're not
(01:56:34):
going to talk about on your Sunday show because the
NBA is so much bigger, Like, what's what's gonna fall
to the to the back of the line based on
how big the NBA is. Major League Baseball women, Yeah, yeah,
major League Baseball All Star Game, you know, leading up
to it, that sort of thing, midway point of the season,
trade deadline, That's what I think we're gonna get in GOULF.
(01:56:55):
Did golf at least concede this weekend or is there
a big enough tournament on with the type of interest?
Tiger play well today? So Tiger's at five under par.
He was he was around the top ten. I'm sure
we'll have Steve to Seger give us an update of
where he is in a bit. But Tiger being at
least later on in the day playing will be good
for golf. I'll be interested. Of course. You have the
US Senior Open that's going on. You'll see it on
(01:57:16):
Fox Sports one. And so there's in in Fox Sports
this weekend, so I'll be in golf. I probably wouldn't
move Tiger out of the way, but baseball probably gets
a gets a let's just say baseball gets a day
off this week. Okay, what if Tiger wins that tournament?
How much topic of a deal is that? That'll be
a very big deal. It will be just a wrong weekend. Yeah.
(01:57:39):
The the difficult thing about this week, and I think
with Tiger is because he's really the only name. Ricky
followers there as well, So it's like him and Ricky
follower like the two big names in this tournament. But
it's not like Phillers played or Rory's playing in it,
or Jordan's speed. I will say this, though, Tiger wins
it is going to be a huge deal, and then
going to the Open Championship in a couple of weeks
will make things even crazier as he looks to get
(01:58:01):
Major number fifteen. But he's still got a ways to
go here at the at the Quicken Loans interesting, Dan, interesting, um,
are are you are you ready for? Are you ready
for a little Steve to Not yet? Not just yet?
Because I want to tell you Today's show is brought
to you by Farmers Protecting your Home Team Farmers customizable
home insurance packages for cover droptions you could tailor for
your home turf. At Farmers, we know a thing or
(01:58:21):
two because we've seen a thing or two. Discover home
coover droptions and more at farmers dot com are Farmers.
Let's get the press, the press, Let's get it go
on with Steve the Sager. Hello, Steve, Hello. Dan was
speaking for the nation there and not yet not not
really ready for him. No, we got the update on
(01:58:42):
Tiger Woods. He was tied for tenth when he finished
his second round. He's fallen to a tie for thirteen.
Although not playing any nineteen or twentieth holes he has fallen.
He's still only four shots back and it's now a
three stroke a three man tie for the lead at
at nine underpart four strokes ahead of Tiger Woods. Again,
Ty where it's not about getting the story right, it's
(01:59:03):
about getting it in before the update. I mean, come on,
that's what we were trying to do. Answering questions. Answering
questions for go to field reporters. Damn Yes, cornfieldeld. Next question,
where is John Smoltz these days, aside from Colorado Springs,
it's the US Senior opened on Fox Sports one all weekend,
(01:59:25):
and he is golfing currently. We mentioned on yesterday show
he shot a fifteen over par eighty five that put
him near the bottom of the pack, not as bad
this year. He's six over through eleven holes in his
second round, so he's tied for one hundred forty six
place out of about a hundred and fifty five golfers.
The former pictures he is plus twenty one, not yet
(01:59:46):
done with his second round. Box has done a really
smart thing though, because his name is is so unique
at such a draw, They've miked him up for the
first two rounds and then I have a camera following him,
so you'll see John Smolts plus twenty one the graphic,
but you'll at least get the c John Smolts play,
which is I think one of the reasons people are
watching the US. Meanwhile, the World Cups knockout stage begins
(02:00:12):
in the morning. South Korea is not there, and many
their field that their players of their national team are
being unfairly punished for failing to reach the second round.
You see, they're being forced to complete their military service
as they go back home. Korean law dictates the young
men between the ages of eighteen and thirty five after
report for two years of national military service. There many, many,
(02:00:34):
many instances of successful athletes they're being exempted, including famously
the South Korean World Cup team of two thousand two
when they were co hosting. They somehow made the semifinals
that year, but probably not going to get that reward
this time. That's quite a carrot at the end of
you know, I mean, yeah, okay, if you make it
to the round of sixteen, if you make it to
(02:00:56):
the round of eights, no military obligations and not getting
the waiver so far, and the conscripts have to live
on around a hundred fifty bucks a month. The star
player for Korea plays in the English Premier League at
about a five million dollar salaries, so I don't know
if he and the rest of the squad is getting
They do say they have an Asian Game soccer tournament
(02:01:18):
later in the summer, so maybe they can play in
that and fifty dollars a month. Who gets that? The
people in the military. Geez, I'll ask you the question,
since John, won't you wanted to know. So much is
made about North and South Korea. What about East and
West Korea? Come on, Steve, as far as USA basketball,
(02:01:41):
there is a World Cup of Basketball coming up next year.
Are you aware that the past year the USA team
and qualifying has been coached by Jeff van Gundhi. They're
using him and the G League players for now and
then after the US we assume qualifies, then the NBA
Stars will take over and be coached by Greg Popovich. Well,
the US team had start at four and oh and
qualifying had a game at Mexico City last night, five
(02:02:04):
thousand Seed Arena. It's sold out in under an hour,
and the USA team was down eighteen to nothing early
in the game and eventually lost to Mexico seventy eight
seventy last night. The Americans are at four and one,
already insure a spot in the second round of qualifying
that starts in September. Unbelieva. By the way, we do
have a live reaction. Um. This was Jeff van gundy
(02:02:28):
Um talking to his team at half time. They still
finished the first round with a game Sunday at last
place Cuba. That's the only world nut delay. Good pause
it's only world cup Pool. I'm doing well in By
the way, the Duck shows brought to you by True Car.
Car shoppy can be confusing with terms like dealer, price, list, price,
(02:02:50):
and invoice. True car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want, so you can recognize a
good price when you're ready to buy a new or
used car. Is it True Car to enjoy a more
confident car buying experience? Some guy tweet didn't that he
gotta follow from the John Ramo Show. How about that?
I wouldn't know what that's like. Hey, that's a great
way to start a weekend if if that's the case.
(02:03:11):
M
