(00:28):
of things I want to get to here in the
Doug Gotlap Show on Fox Sports Radio. Nuggets trailing the
Jazz forty two in Orlando, a lot of people trying
to figure out if Orlando is gonna be a site
for college basketball to have bubble tournaments. You know, they
already got the set up, They already got the courts,

(00:49):
they already got the cameras. All of that stuff makes sense.
We'll get to some of that upcoming. UM. I saw
this from from one report. In a proposed format, each
team that would play in the Big Ten would play
five of the Big Ten teams who are participating twice,

(01:09):
once at home, once in the road, beginning September or
October three. The season would conclude by mid December, and
there'll be no Big Ten championship game as of Tuesday night,
a source claimed that Penn State President Eric Barron, Nebraska
President Walter ted Carter, Iowa President Bruce uh Harold are
on board with the new plan. The group hopes to

(01:30):
convince two other universities, most notably Wisconsin and Michigan, to
join them. In other words, Big the Big Ten is
looking at trying to go rogue and get their season
in on some level of the work, all right, will it?
Will it? In fact? Work? I thought, this is an
interesting it's like you know, kenya um. This is an

(01:54):
article from Sports Illustrated. There's been extremely little reason of
quickly believe that Ohio State will play football this fall.
After last week's news, the Big Ten postponed the season,
but Ryan Day, of course, is turning the attention towards
developing a schedule winter in spring. According to one report,
all hope isn't lost. So Jeff Snook, who's a long

(02:19):
time football writer, covered Ohio State for years Buck Eye Grad.
He's retired, no longer works for official publication, but he's
tied into the Ohio State community. He said that this
is in fact a plan that Gene Smith has the
full support of their new new president. He's been working
behind the scenes for six days and they need a

(02:42):
couple more teams on board. You already have Ohio State,
Penn State, Nebraska, and Iowa, and they're trying to get
Wisconsin and Michigan. In other words, the big boys, big
boys in the LAK so uh we want to play
as could it work, yes? Will it work? Probably not?

(03:05):
But it is fascinating on how Nebraska really was steadfast
and wanting to play football even after the Big Ten
made its ruling, and now you're trying to work your
way around rules. All right, we can't play anyone else,
we can only play Big ten schools. What if we
only play the Big ten schools that really want to
compete with us and the ones that everybody wants to see?

(03:26):
Like would they be fastining? Like what if you cut
out Illinois and Michigan? Howb at Michigan State? How bent
are they? They're not getting invited to this thing. They
got so many issues after the Larry Nassar deal and
it's just such ugliness and then hire new football coach
and whatever. Just crazy that Michigan State, who has been
one of the elite four or five programs in this
league for the last decade has fallen off so mightily,

(03:50):
and maybe it's more a location. It gives you Iowa
and Nebraska and Wisconsin altogether, that's kind of a threesome.
And then on the other side you got Penn State, Ohio,
penstatil Houstate and miss You. That's just be crazy, like,
let's just eliminate all the other stuff. This is the
this is the big filet minno, not the polite petite
filet mignon, no fat, no grizz So there's just prime,

(04:13):
beautiful steak, the heart of hearts, the best, the best
of the best, the best part of it all. You know,
I do I think it happens. No, absolutely not. I
don't think Rhodes brogue schedules happen. But I think that
part of this is, you know that they've tried for

(04:34):
a long time. They've tried for a long time to
get um uh, you know, they tried for a long
time to get it done this way, and it just
doesn't feel it doesn't feel like you can go behind
the conferences back and go, yeah, I know what you
just ruled and what you recommended, but we're gonna do

(04:56):
it anyway. That's part of what happens when you sign
up to to be in a conference. The issue becomes
will they lose recruits? Will they lose current players? You
already have the poaching that's with no doubt taking place.
Lane Kiffins like, hey man, we'll take you. You can
come and play here. You run the potential of losing
recruiting class, of having too many guys stick around that

(05:18):
we're supposed to go pros like, there's a lot of
unintended consequences of this thing. Buy or if I gave
you a percentage chance, this happens six breakaway schools. Right,
You've got six breakaway schools and they just happened to
be with with maybe one exception, the six most prestigious

(05:40):
football schools in the Big ten. Could they pull that off?
I mean it was me. I was like, yeah, I mean,
you got the best of the best of the best,
and them saying, but this does feel like an inevitability
that they're not going to play. I'm not gonna play,
So I don't know. I'm I'm intrigued by it. Let's

(06:01):
get to last night's game and what I saw. I
think it's fair to point out that the Lakers have
some construction issues and not having the shooting that they
likely need to win a championship. I think that's fair, Um,
But I also wonder out loud, is it how much

(06:23):
of this does should fall on Lebron James? You know, like, look,
you can tell me it's different in the bubble. It is.
It's different for everybody that the things that are working
against you. Why aren't they working against the Blazers now?
Not having Um, not having Avery Bradley, that hurts your team.

(06:46):
He gives you You're los an elite defender and a
guy who before he decided to shut it down when
the league was shut down, he was shooting the basketball
very very well. Gives you a guy who can play
off the ball and guy can really guard the basketball.
It's the best of both worlds. And and they're not
a team that can shoot it all that well to
begin with. And they're going through like a team wise

(07:07):
shooting slump. And Kyle Kusman takes terrible shots, so his
percentage gonna be low, you know, And you had two
guys in k c p and your your backup point guards.
You won a combine one or fifteen from the floor,
and you still probably should have won the game. Here's
Lebron James on on the challenges to play in the bubble.

(07:30):
No frustration, you know, because of the game. Um is
the game, and we came in with a mindset to win.
We didn't take care of business. Um, but we got
another opportunity, excuse me, on Thursday to even the series.
And that's my only mindset. Um. You know, I'm gonna
go back to the Hotel watch film tonight, lock in
with the team tomorrow, um, and then uh end up
prepare again on Thursday before the game and get ready

(07:50):
to play. Like I continue to say, this is different.
This is different, um, and the aspect of just I mean,
we're in a bubble with no fans, um. But as
far as uh me being locked in on the game plan,
that didn't change, not one bit. UM me going on
making place, UM playing I'm at a high level, try
to help our team win. That was the same and

(08:12):
nothing changes from that, you know. So that's the same. Yeah,
I mean, like you look, you can tell me this
is this is business as usual. I'm just you know,
I'm taking care of business and I'm gonna do all
these things. I you know, look, I would tell you
that oftentimes I don't agree with some of cow hurts
takes on um, some of cow hurts takes on basketball, right.

(08:42):
But I do think, and this is really important, I
do think that Colin nailed it. Hassan Whiteside intimidated Lebron James,
Like Lebron Lot loves having a stretch five way outside
wide so he can get played downhill, get to the
rim and dunk and if anybody's there, you can kick
to the owner. So now he had not only did

(09:02):
he not have his wings shooting the ball, well, you
know Danny Green is not making shots, and that there's
a lot more muddy paint or whatever, um whatever, whatever
the case is, having a guy meets you at the rim.
Remember when they were what what happened to the heat

(09:24):
when they took on the Dallas Mavericks, Tyson Chandler dominated
defensively by defending the rim, all right, and go back
and look, and Bosh was not playing center on that team. Additionally,
Mike Bibbie was their point guard and he was washed
up and he didn't even play in game six after

(09:46):
playing one through five that poorly. So I think there's
some similarities here in you don't have your starting point guard,
and um, you know you don't have your starting point guard.
And then all of a sudden you've got a great
rim protector and Hassan Whiteside. By the way, Zach Collins
has a stress reaction in his foot, so he'll be
out for he won't play the rest of the series.

(10:09):
They're gonna check it back out in a week. But
it doesn't matter. But that actually doesn't doesn't help the
Lakers as much. Things that Collins is going to be
a better player than Hassan Whiteside and is going to
be a very good player, but right now he's just
not there yet, not there yet, whereas Whiteside game changer
in terms of his length and athleticism in shop blocking.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug

(10:31):
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
Here's the question, you guys, Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Here here's a question you guys. What is the uh

(10:52):
what is the myth that that you forever believed and
now you're like, yeah, I can't believe I believe that,
Like for me for a long time, I Uh, like JFK,
I did not think that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
I'm still not totally sure. I mean again, most of
my information comes from JFK the movie, not from actual

(11:14):
research of it. Right. Um, but I would I would
think that if a cover up took place that long ago,
was that in depth that somebody by now would have
completely come out and snitched and you know, like it's
just too big, you know. Nowadays obviously we'd have it
on cell phone. We know. The other one was the

(11:35):
moon Landing, which did feel like it was in a
Hollywood set to me, but obviously that's been proved to
be more of a myth than than reality. Um. Anyway,
what what about you buyer? Was there is there a
is there a fashionable myth or legend that you believe

(11:56):
to be true? Uh? Mixed draft lottery? M hm, keep
it frozen, frozen, frozen l And I'm more more bended corner.
That's where I am, the corner of the time. For
the corner, I don't know, but that that's what I
think is more more likely, and especially on the heels
where many people thought that the draft lottery in the
nhl U recently was was rigged for the Rangers. It

(12:20):
brought up the the old Nicks and the draft lottery,
and I mean, hey, I wonder about two thousand three
as well. I mean, yeah, happy he just happens to
go there. You know, I don't know. But but then
the the the original, then the you know, it all
stems from what you believe happened in Okay. Uh and

(12:44):
do you still believe what you believe? Then? Um? Yeah, okay, okay,
what about you Rams? Is there a you seem like
a guy who there's a got to be conspiracy, some
some conspiracy that you believe to be true. Yeah, I
believe My was always been the Paul Pierce one. I

(13:06):
I never when that guy left that game and the
two thousand on the NBA Finals and he looked like
he'd never played basketball again, and then five minutes later
he comes out in a wheelchair and scores like twenty
points or something like that to win the game for
the Celtics. I was like, come on, no way, So yeah,
that was that was something that I was like, that
is that guy wasn't hurt one bit. Well, now he's

(13:28):
he's come out and said like that. It was a
he might have a problem, you know with the with
the plumbing, right, right, wasn't it that you had problem
with the plumbing? Is that? Is that right? By remembering? Yes, Well, look,
I think that I think there's a common myth in
the NBA that there aren't upsets, right, Like I I

(13:51):
really believe that that people think, well, there's not upsets
because you've got seven games, so a team may lose
a game, but that doesn't actually mean that there'll be
an upset. Do you think that's a do you do
you think that's a common thought. I would say yes, yeah.
But the truth is that there have been upsets. So
we're upsets. Last year, you know, I mean we we

(14:11):
remember that the Boston Celtics were dominated by the Milwaukee
Bucks in the semi finals, but then the Bucks were
beaten handily by the Raptors. But the you know, and
and we look back on who had the best record,
like that was in fact an upset. It was an upset.
Um there's earlier upsets in earlier series as well, which

(14:34):
which have surprised people. We've seen eight seeds beat one
seeds with with slightly more regularity honestly than happens with
sixteen seeds beating one seeds or even eight seeds beaten
one seeds in the n c A Tournament. There's this
belief that the college basketball is the only place where
there's these upsets, and in the NBA it doesn't happen

(14:58):
all the time. Obviously last night to one seeds went down,
but they have to lose three more games to lose
the series. It's harder to accomplish, but when it is
accomplished is actually a more surprising and impressive feat than
it is for a sixteen seed to beat a one
seed in just one game. To have that much better
a team, that much better record, and lose to them
four times in seven that's a much bigger upset than

(15:22):
having that much bigger team, better team and losing one game.
Anybody can lose one game, okay some point last night,
I just feel like it's a common NBA myth that
there's not upsets. You're like, yeah, well, I remember when
Denver with the Kemban Moutembo took down the Sonics, Like,
oh well that was you know, he's holding up the
ball like it was the baby in the Lion King,
laying on the floor, Like I remember all happening. I

(15:47):
remember the Warriors taken down the the we believe Warriors
taking down the Dallas Mavericks in the first round. I
remember that happening. So it does happen. Does it happen often? No?
Regularly no, occasionally, yes, But it's about the ame amount
of time it happens in the n c A tournament.
We just have a hard time remembering it. Common myth

(16:08):
is there's not there's not upsets in in the NBA playoffs.
That's just a myth. Let's get you to Dan Dan Buyer,
find out what else is going on. dB. What he
got Doug Wee Start in the NBA bubble where the
Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets are playing their game too.
Drives by the defender, floats a right hander up no road.
They packed it right back down. Well it count, it is, Oh,

(16:30):
it's gonna count. It's gonna count. Rudy Gobert with the
putback dunk at the buzzer ends the first half on
a high note for Utah. They lead Denver sixty one
to forty eight. On the Jazz Radio network. Gobert is
twelve in the first half. Donovan Mitchell with that fifty
seven in Game one. Just has six first half points,
but his team leads by thirteen. Raptors picked up a

(16:51):
game to win against the Nets one. Toronto now leads
that best of seven series two games to none. Mask
forward Chris stops porzingis probable tonight to face the Clippers.
Has a sore knee, but is expected to go in
Game two. Some news from the NFL Titan sound free
agent quarterback Trevor Simeon. They released seventh round pick quarterback
Cole McDonald from Hawaii Eagles. Running back Miles Sanders week

(17:13):
to week with a lower body injury. Well. The NFL
network says the Vikings and running back Dalvin Cook have
broken off contract talks, but we'll resume negotiations at the
end of the season. Chief's Corner of shot Breedlance Just
spending four games by the NFL following his arrest in
April on marijuana possession and resisting arrest charges. Stanley Cup
Playoffs Hurricanes lead the Bruins right now one nothing in
Game five of their playoff series midway through the second period,

(17:36):
but it's Boston up three games to one in the series.
Lightning into their series with the Blue Jackets, winning it
overtime five four they get Game five is Tampa Bay
moves on with a four one series win. Brooks kept
got out of the Northern Trust because of knee and
hip injuries, so he won't advance in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
And in Major League Baseball, the Cardinals and Cups playing
a double header today at Wrigley just ended Game one

(17:59):
and that's at the end of set. Even Cardinals beat
the Cubs nine to three. Red Sax dropped the Phils today.
Six three of the Jay's were winners against the Orioles
five to two. Doug Back to you, Doug Olive Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Chris Mannox joins us live from the Bubble.
Of course you can hear his podcast, you can read
Working Sports Illustrated. He's awesome, and he joins us here

(18:19):
on Fox Sports Radio. Um House, which which was more
surprising of the eight seeds being the one seeds last night. Oh,
I would say Milwaukee going down. Um the Bucks had
not played well coming into that game one. But you know, Orlando,
you know, didn't jump past Brooklyn like many people thought.

(18:39):
There without Jonathan Isaac, there without Aaron Gordon, and they
came out and did to the Bucks what frankly every
team and the bubble has done to him, which has
ripped him apart defensively, and then they shot three close
from from the field. I mean, this Milwaukee defense, Doug is,
it's now it's no longer in operation. It's now a
nine game trend that we're looking at here where they've

(19:00):
gone from this historically good defense to one that just
gets beat up on every given night. What what are
people saying is the flaw within their defense? It's not
so much a flaw that. You know, when you talk
to people with the Bucks and some of the executives
and coaches that are scouting, they just don't look as engaged.
I mean, you know, Orlando played harder than them last night.

(19:22):
I mean, they just did. And sometimes it's as simple
as that. You know, there's a talent gap between the
Bucks and the Magic, But if you're gonna go through
the motions in the way the Bucks did and play
without the kind of aggressiveness you have to play with
to win a playoff game to loose, it's it's basically
just that simple. So I don't think technically there's any
flaws there. I just don't think they're playing as hard

(19:43):
as we saw them play, you know, before the pandemic.
What about Joannice, He had a couple of threes early,
felt like that became kind of fool's gold where he
gets frustrated. They you know, they put centers on him
and play off him and force him to shoot. What
are your thoughts on Janice's performance, especially late? Yeah, I
mean I thought he was fine, but you don't want
to get into a game where Janice is trying to

(20:05):
beat you from the three point line. I mean it's
comparable in a way to what Anthony Davis kind of
did last night. I mean Davis, when he got to
the basket, he was getting there pretty easily, and he
was scoring, you know, through free throws into you know,
make through contact. That's how Janie needs to play. When
Anthony Davis pulled up from three, Yeah, the Blazers let him.

(20:26):
You know, they'll live with those types of shots. It's
the same thing with Joannice. You probably want to play
him a little bit closer than you do Davis. But
if he wants to go out there and shoot threes
all day, you know, Orlando's gonna let him. As simple
as that. So if you're Yannie, you can't be tempted
by all that space. You've got to go to the
rim and create offense, not just for yourself but your
teammates on driving kicks. Play kind of like Russell Westbrook does,

(20:47):
you know, get into the rim and throwing out. I mean,
he's got to be more disciplined in those situations. All right,
let's get to the Lakers. They're built the opposite way,
right there, a tremendous defensive team, and they played really
good defense with a couple exceptions eight um. But the offenses,
it's got to be frustrating for Lebron, and even Lebron's
inability to kind of attack at some point gotta be

(21:08):
frustrating to the team. How are the Lakers gonna go
about fixing their offense? Well, I would say first this
about the defense. They've got to be more imaginative against
Damian Lillard, Like you've got to throw different things at him.
I don't think they throw enough Adam that confused him.
He's gonna be tough to confuse anyway, because its a
really smart player. But I don't think you can. You've
got to mix up these coverages, whether it's putting a

(21:29):
different guy on them on different possessions, or sending traps
here there make him a thinker as soon as he
crosses that half court line. That's that's first part, you know,
watching them offensively, I don't mean to simplify it again,
but they missed a lot of open looks. I mean,
there were guys that were wide open out there. I'm
talking about Danny Green and Caldwell, Pope and Kuzma on

(21:50):
a couple of shots. I mean, I didn't look at
the Blazers holding the Lakers from three as being this
transcendent defensive performance. I didn't. It was. It was really
the Lakers missing a whole bunch of open shots. And
Frank Vogel said it after the game, like Lebron would
have had twenty plus assists if you know these guys
made the shots that he was setting up for them. So,
I mean, look, this is another trend, right. I mean,

(22:12):
the Lakers haven't just weren't just bad on Game one.
They've been bad shooting the three throughout this whole process.
Not for Kyle Kuzma shooting, which might have been a
little bit of fools gold Uh, that shooting percentage would
have created completely. So I think the Lakers, you know,
if they're not gonna be able to make those three
point shots at least twenty five percent of the time,

(22:33):
they're gonna be a lot of trouble in this series.
I mean, there's there's different things we can talk about,
they can do offensively, but it boils down to when
you get an open look off of lebron drive, you
gotta make that shot. You do you do. And there
there are also times though, when he gets a mismatch
that he's gotta take, you know, he's gotta take some shots,
and then they're struggling to do with whiteside. Yeah. No,

(22:54):
I mean, I was just saying that on that I
wrote about this last night. You know, at some point
these guys aren't making shots with regularity. Lebron's gonna make
that switch, the ones who's made many times in his
career where he's got to go back into early Cleveland
Lebron and just become a score like you know, you
just gotta say screw it. I gave these guys a chance.
When I see a mismatch, when I see when I
see read out there, I gotta go and I gotta

(23:15):
get to the free throw line and create offense myself
because my teammates aren't that reliable. Chris mannis joining us
on the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, we'll get a chance to see the Clippers
again tonight. Now, Uh, they survived, they survived. The fact
helpful to them was Prozingis got thrown out. What what's

(23:38):
your level of confidence in the Mavericks being able to
win a couple of games? I mean maybe a game.
I don't have a lot of confidence. Less, So with
this recent Porzingis injury, Um, it sounds like he's going
to play tonight, but if he's limited in any way, Uh,
the pressure just becomes overwhelming on on Luke at Donchers
And I was at that game the other night and

(24:00):
watching Luca over those final twelve minutes, he was completely gasped.
I mean, he had to do so much offensively to
keep them in that game that on the other end
of the floor, I mean, he was just looking for
for opportunities to rest. And when he did get matched
up against the Choira Paul George, you know he was
he just got run right over, Like he just didn't

(24:20):
have it in him to defend at a high enough level.
I mean, somebody else on Dallas has got to step
up and have a big score. Maybe it's Porzingis. It
definitely impacted the game and getting tossed. They're up five
when he when he went out and brought up, losing
by what seven or eight? Uh So, you know him
being back and healthy would certainly help. But whether it's
you know, Maxi Kleber or I mean, go down the list,

(24:40):
any of the guys they've got on the perimeter out there,
somebody's got to step up and make plays. Because it
can't be Luca going for forty plus to keep them
in this. I don't think he's gonna have the energy
to play that type of offense. Doug Gottlieb show here
on Fox Sports Radio. What happens to the Sixers if
in fact the get eliminated from the playoffs in the

(25:01):
first round. You know, it's hard to see Brett Brown
surviving um and they could be in line for a
complete overhaul. I don't know. I mean, there was there
was certainly some industry chatter before the pandemic about perhaps,
you know, a complete structural change within that organization because
of the way they played all year long. Now, I

(25:23):
understand that Brett Brown has his critics, I would also
point out that, I mean, this guy has to deal
with a changing roster like every single year. I mean
last year, you know, he had multiple trades in season,
then Jimmy Butler Bales. He had a new team this
year that really wasn't built to play around Ben Simmons
and Joel Embi. Not enough shooting on that roster. But
you know, he's been coaching seemingly for his job for

(25:44):
a couple of years now. If they get beat in
the first round, that could be an opportunity to to
make a change, especially if ty Lou is still out there.
I think Philadelphia has got an eye on thy Lou.
And I'll tell you, talking to people that know Tie,
I get the sense he likes that job if it
becomes available. So if Tylu is uh, if that's an
option for Philly and the next week or two, and

(26:06):
I have no reason I believe it won't. I don't
see Ty, you know, jumping for the Pelicans job right away.
I don't see that happening. But if if Ty is
available in the next couple of weeks, I could see
a fit in Philadelphia. Well, the one thing about the
about the Pelicans job is David Griffin is hiring, hiring,
and that's who hired him previously. Alright, so not tylu
who to New Orleans. I like Kenny Atkinson that spot

(26:29):
a lot. And you know, David Griffin understands the value
of a developmental coach. I mean every everything he's doing
now and moving forward is about Zion Williamson and to
a less degree, brandon Ingram Right, like, you need these
two guys to be your cornerstones. And Kenny Atkinson is
the best developmental coach on the market. I mean, you
can quibble with his in game coaching and can see

(26:52):
capable of coaching stars. I don't know if there's an
answer for that, but Brooke Brooklyn, for whatever reason, didn't
think so. But what he did with the Nets is
nothing short remarkable. I mean not even we're not talking
like top ten picks he was developing there we're talking
but Joe Harris is of the world, the Spencer Dinwiddies,
the Caris leverts, late first second round undrafted guys that
he was turning into legitimate rotation high level players. Jared

(27:15):
Allen on that list as well, I mean, the proof
is there that this guy knows how to develop young players.
If I was New Orleans and and Tie doesn't jump
at my offer, I go to Kenny Atkins because I
think Kenny is gonna be a candidate for Chicago as well,
so I might jump on him before he's too late.
Chris Mannix, our guest in the doug Otlips Show on
Fox Sports Radio. UM, all right, let's let's let's get

(27:36):
to the l A Clippers. What what percentage? What's your
confidence level in the Clippers now that you've seen them
play one playoff game. You've seen the Lakers play one
playoff game. Where are you on the Clippers? It's pretty high.
And I picked them to win the whole thing at
the start of this playoff after seeing everything the first
two seeding games and our first eight seeding games, and
I have no reason to change that right now. With

(27:58):
the Clippers, I just believe are gonna get better as
this playoff progresses, because their guys are gonna get in
better shape. I mean, Harold played his first game and
what five months, Um in that game on Monday and
play a second one later tonight. Lou Williams, we know
his circumstance, Patrick Beverley, He's been dealing with some stuff.
I mean, I think as they as this postseason goes on,

(28:19):
and if they get through this series quickly and they
get some practice time, they're only gonna get better. And
that might be the only team in the playoff mix
that you can say that about. Maybe Denver you throw
into that discussion as well, because the Nuggets have had
similar problems with their roster. But to the Clippers, because
of the star power at the top that's played really
well and these the supporting cast, it's only going to

(28:39):
get better. I have no reason to believe that's not
the team to beat in the West. Chris Mannox our
guests in the Doug Gotlive show on Fox Sports Radio
Toronto wins again. Obviously, they're playing a depleted Brooklyn Nets
team survived the close one after a blowout in Game one.
Are are you still as confident that they can be
the biggest challenger to the Bucks? I think they win

(29:01):
the East. Uh, that's the other team I picked to
come out of the East at the start of this
as well. I mean it's you know, watching the Bucks
through the first three scrimmage games, I thought they were
the team to beat, and then watching everybody through the
eight seeding games, it was abundantly clear that Toronto was
the most locked in team of anybody here. I mean,
it's it's wild to say, but you know, from that
first game on they have just played exceptional basketball. They

(29:24):
had one clunker against Boston, but the rest of those
games they were locked in. They played great defensively, and
every man on that team, Dug knows his role. They
know how to play off each other really well. And
then talking to some Raptors execs, one thing they say
to me is that, you know, Kauai is gone, but
Kauai is still here. Like what Kauai taught them last year,

(29:47):
how to play through adversity, how to let go of
the losses, stuff that some of these players, including Kyle Lowry,
didn't really know how to deal with. That still resonates
with this team to this day. Uh. I know Pascal
Siakam has not played well up until this point, uh,
but I think he's gonna get better. And when you
look at the depth of that roster and the shooting
they have with Van Bleet and Skim and Lower and

(30:08):
all those guys, they can throw at you the sides
they have up front to battle with the Bucks on
the inside, I think the other team to be a man.
Wouldn't it be something to get Raptors, Clippers, Colli versus
Toronto in an NBA finals. That would be one healthy story.
It would be amazing. I have Celtics Clippers as mine.
Call me crazy, but we'll see what they The Hayward
thing worries me a little bit, and not just because

(30:29):
he's out now, but he's gonna be out for that
second round series two four weeks and we know the
timeline over the NBA playoffs, he's gonna miss the whole thing. Uh.
And then you know I watched him at the Celtics
practice yesterday. That's gonna be a full four weeks. I've
seen ankle sprains. That's a bad ankle sprain that he's
dealing with. So against Toronto, you know, Marcus Smart can
be really useful defensively, but you're gonna need some offensive

(30:51):
firepower against a team that good defensively and without Hayward.
That that gives me a reason for pause. I I
agree with you, it does it, But I made my
prediction before sprained his ankle, so that there goes for me.
Uh man, It's great stuff, dude, enjoy the bubble, Thanks
for joining us. Be sure to catch the live edition
of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m.
Easter noon Pacific. Let's get to the press the press,

(31:19):
Dan by what he got? Not a touchdown? But I
do have some scores from the NBA. You know, nets
were a nice story today. They had a chance against
the Raptors but faltered late. Toronto gets a one oh
four win and Game two of the playoff series. Toronto
now up two games to none. In that best of
seven showdown, it was look, I think Brooklyn showing themselves

(31:40):
to be competitive. I'd be interesting to see if Jack
Vaughan has has earned enough respect to get the head
coaching job. Um, he's done a great job. But it's
also easier to do when you have no expectations. Something
that I surmised a few weeks a few weeks back
on Fox Sports Sunday here on Fox Sports Radio is
I'm curious on how much bubble ever, cabin fever, however

(32:01):
you want to say it could play into a situation
like Brooklyn is because honestly, Doug two more games and
they're out of the bubble, and the likelihood of them
running off a streak and beating the Raptors and then
moving on. I don't know, I just I just wonder
with these teams that are a bit against the eight ball,
with the ability to leave the bubbles so close and
no real title expectations. Yeah, you know, one to three

(32:26):
cancun is the phrase that you always, you know, you
always use. I don't know if it's gonna be in
game three, but if it's in, if it's a three
oh series lead, I would expect it in game four.
All right, No, I I completely agree. There the Jazz
and Nuggets right now five forty one left in the
third Utah eight one to sixty eight. Balanced affair from

(32:47):
the Jazz today, four players and double figures with Jordan
Clarkson leading them with sixteen off the bench. Denver's Nicola
Yokich has twenty one points. But Utah right now, with
the thirteen point lead way through the third quarter, it's over, Jenny, No,
it's not. But it's just I mean, it's like so
interesting that you have two teams that usually use help

(33:10):
or help by the altitude and they're playing each other,
but there is no altitude, and so you're like, well,
you know, if you lose this one, like, are you
lose this when you play another one? Like series? Are?
So you know, it's just first one of four. By
the way, on the heels of the Raptors and Net's Conversation,
we just had reports saying that Joe Harris of the
Nets has left the Orlando Bubble due to a non

(33:32):
medical personal matter. So Joe Harris won't be available for
the non medical personal Um, I don't know, you know,
I'm not sure, but yeah, I could see that. Are
we This is a weird question. But do we deserve
to know? Um? I don't think so. If it's I mean,

(33:56):
if it's personal, it's none of my business. And you know, Buyer,
I'm just saying, if he wants to come out and
say it, he can. If not, then so be it.
It is weird though, right into the playoffs, you're like, yeah,
I gotta I gotta leave. Why it's not medical personal?
You know, I and I don't want to. I don't
want to draw conclusions, but it maybe just to the

(34:17):
point that you know that are brought up of Alright, realistically,
where are you if there's a certain matter at home
that maybe needs more you know what the main thing is, Alright,
I don't know what Lebron has to do with any
of this, but I don't know. It's a theory. I
don't want to keep on saying I don't know when

(34:39):
on sports talk radio you're supposed to know one way
or the other. The NFL doesn't know if they're gonna
have the postseason in a bubble, but they might. Saint
sid coach Sean Payton made the recommendation, and multiple reports
say that the NFL hasn't ruled out that option for
the postseason. Yeah, I mean, I look, I think it's
really really smart to have all options on the table.

(35:01):
Right It's like, look, this is how we're starting, and
we'll figure out how we finish, you know, we and
you know, college teams are saying, hey, we'll have fans.
Obviously that this that was not their Their Plan A
was to have everybody there. This is Plan B. And
we'll see if they have to go to Plan C
or D and not have anybody there. And I think

(35:21):
the NFL is much the same. You know, the Super
Bowls in Tampa, you know this year just down the
road from Orlando. I don't know if you can have
a bubble that big, but if you were to to
keep everybody in in that area, I don't know. I
just don't understand why you need one did a week
in between games. Yeah. The reason it works for the
NBA is you have less guys, smaller traveling parties, but

(35:44):
you also have games every other day, so you can
you know, you can make it up in volume of games.
I don't think you can't do that in the NFL.
NFL reportedly considering a policy that would allow crowd noise
to be played in stadiums. Maybe you heard John Ramos
yesterday wanting the voices of the fans in the NBA
bubble to heard the NBA could be putting in some
crowd noise for home games. Well, my son has already

(36:05):
asked me, um my boy, Tommy Heinsen is the is
one of the he's the producer for the for the
UH um what's his name for the for T n
T for their broadcast And and my son made me
reach out and text time. He's like, how do I
get on the video board for one of these games

(36:27):
and be a fan? I was like, I don't know.
I'll figure it out. Can they hear my voice? Now?
They can hear your voice, by the ways, and they
get in trouble for this from piping and cawd noise.
What does the falcons? I thought that's who it was
Colts supposedly did with when pay Manning was there and
then the According to the NFL Networks Tom Pella Sero,
NFL players and other members of the team's traveling parties

(36:48):
won't be allowed to pick up take out. All meals,
according to the tweets, must be provided to players and
coaches and staff when traveling with the team self served,
but face style donning is prohibited. Room services allowed as
our third party delivery services with contact list delivery. But
uh yeah, you can't pick up takeout even if you're not,

(37:09):
you know, playing, just the team's traveling party can't do
take out? What's your where's your favorite go to takeout place?
We've We're a bit limited where I live, but there
is a there is a sushi place where my uh
at the bottom of the hill where the my wife
will get sushi and I'll just get some like chicken,
karayaki and rice. So it's a good spot. We've been

(37:32):
there a bunch during quarantine. Uh. Doug this in the
Milwaukee Journal set Noel the Big Ten Conference, Uh moving
forward with a plan for college football. The conference would
likely hold a college football season that starts in January,
with games being played at indoor stadiums, including in Detroit, Indianapolis, St. Louis,
and Minneapolis is possible options. So this is a direct reaction,

(37:56):
I think to the six schools or five schools trying
to get a six school to playing, right, like, oh,
we're gonna play I swear, we swear, we promised we'll
play it in domes in January and February. Syracuse was
also brought up basic possibility in the report. But Carrier Dome.
They redid the Carrier Dome, right, They took off down
the roof and put a more permanent one. Alright. Red

(38:17):
spitcher Trevor Bauer will wear free Joe Kelly on his
cleats tonight and the start against the Kansas City Royals.
It's game two of a double header. So yeah, Trevor
Bauer supporting Joe Kelly and as uh actions towards the
aser supporting everybody though, right, who's you know he's been
big on for Danio tattoos as well. Yes, and uh

(38:37):
finally Doug Let's end with a hockey goal, connects with
savard Or on the foreside driving front point, great point
again and the light they wanted, they went the theories,
they went game five f That's exactly how I announced
my game winners in my driveway, shooting hoops that way

(39:00):
Lightning Advance five four on the Lightning Radio network. And
that's the press that you get out there and press.
That was the press. You know what what's interesting about
the announcing. I used to do that in my drive Why.
I would do it in Garrett Phipps driveway down the street,
but I would come running back in on the way
out and the way back, I would slap fives with
the bird of Paradise leaves they're big fat. Why that

(39:21):
it would be like my you know you you run
through a tunnel and there's all those fans you slap
hands with. That's what I would do any upsets tonight buyer,
um no, no, I think that the the Clippers win,
and uh I forgot the other game, but I think
the Maverage win tonight. Interesting think the Mavericks to win tonight.
