And oh yeah, by the way, along that path, I
try and solve the world's yours, our problems. Told you

(01:31):
get to give a giving. You'll be able to call in,
tweet me, ask me. All right, this is my this
is my setup, This is my girlfriend, This is my wife.
This is my wife and my girlfriend. What should I do?
What should I buy? Or this is my husband, this
is my boyfriend, my boy how what should I do? Kids?
Whatever you want, we will help you with that. We

(01:54):
try and help. Was it yesterday the day before we
proposed a massive changed to how the Heisman Trophy voting
is done, how the Heisman Trophy ceremony is done. Um,
why am I bringing up solving problems when you don't
think won't exists? Because the NBA has done a phenomenal job.

(02:17):
Phenomenal I was watching last night. Are two really good
games on National TV, Lakers Nicks and the Timberwolves against
the seventy six ers, one on the road, uh Nicks
one at home. Both games went to overtime young players.
The health of the league is good, is vibrant. But

(02:40):
if you've watched an NBA game over the past twenty
five years and you watched the first couple of cluders,
are like, dude, what is up with these Are they
all hungover? And the answer is, but it also has
to do with the attrition of playing eighty two games
and not having enough time off. And the players have

(03:03):
understood and the coaches in many ways have understood that
your judge, your legacy is not necessarily based upon what
you do in the regular season. Instead, it's what you
do in the postseason. So if you're gonna make the playoffs,
don't kill yourself over every regular season game. And so
players are starting to skip games. When you can compile

(03:24):
the fact that players were skipping games because they needed
to be rested, because they were overworked, and there are
teams that were sitting there players because they frankly wanted
to lose games so they could tank. Those two factors,
and you turn on a game on a given Tuesday
night like last night, and you might not be able

(03:45):
to identify any of the players who are starting for
your team, even in December, but a last without a strike,
without a lockout. Though, with a new collective Barden in Green,
the players who are all getting paid handsomely so. And
it should be pointed out that in the previous collective

(04:07):
Bardening agreement, the players got absolutely murdered in negotiations, murdered.
They went from fifty seven percent of basketball revenue UH
generated revenue to like, it's I think it's fifty split,
Like that's getting murdered. And yet you look at James

(04:27):
harden salary, like what's the big deal? Like James Hardens
making forty nine million dollars, it's obviously the differences. The
owners are making even more money than they ever made before.
So in this new negotiation, they all felt like they
were being handsomely compensated, even though they was a wall
issue with owners in terms of percentage of revenue. With

(04:53):
with ownership and the NBA leadership armed with angry ESPN,
angry Turner, angry fans over players skipping games and tanking,
they knew they had to make a change, and they did.
They lengthened the season by a week. They worked diligently
to improve the schedule, to take away some of the

(05:14):
back to backs, to make trips so that you don't
have a one off trip. They just made sensible scheduling right.
They did the B A s F thing. God, I
love commercials Ralmos. Do you remember the B A s
F commercial from probably the nineties? A VHS tape will
be a s F. They did more than that that

(05:34):
there there um so you don't remember their nut moniker,
the their their tagline. It wasn't a jingle. It was
like a tagline. Do you remember what I want? I don't.
I just remember that Dan Buyer, do you remember do
you remember what B A s F s tagline was?
We don't make many of the things that you use.

(05:56):
We make the things you use better. Right. We don't
make video tapes, we make video tapes better. We don't
make tape, we make tape better. We don't make right.
And it was like, oh, what that's the old don't
work harder, work smarter. The NBA did the B A
SF thing. They didn't add games, they didn't subtrack games.
People like, oh, I had too many games I have,
don't change any of that didn't change for most party

(06:19):
didn't change that. People were like, hey, get rid of
East and West and playoffs like nah, let's just let's
just make our product better. And last night I watched
the Lakers and the Knicks, and because even though Tim
Hardaway Jr. Not playing with the with the stress reaction
in his leg, and even though the Lakers aren't particularly
good in brandon Ingram was frankly terrible in the game,

(06:40):
it was a compelling, competitive athletic game that I couldn't
take my eyes off. And I would think at least
a good portion of why these games are better, why
Lebron is playing better. Seventeen assists last night incredibly efficient?
Is more time off that rested? It look good? Who

(07:00):
doesn't feel good? Like do Bob Costas? Everyone's like man
Bob Costas still bringing it barely works. One of the
things in any business is you get the balance with
always wanted to be available and work really hard, but
you don't want to work too much because then it
becomes mundane and you're not getting you're not presenting the

(07:22):
best possible version of yourself. And so the NBA has
nailed it, which brings to mind what the NFL needs
to do. It's so obvious it's staying there. People have like, Look,
we talked about this last week two things you can

(07:42):
count on with Thursday Night football. One, Thursday Night football
is not gonna be great. And to whoever loses Thursday
Night football is going to complain about Thursday Night football.
But if you look at fans, they have often complained
at the Super Bowl. Wise, super Bowl Sunday, not on

(08:03):
President's Day weekend. Well, that's a week later. Remember there's
always a built in buffer week before the super Bowl,
two weeks before the super Bowl, right, extra weekend off.
So instead of creating an extra weekend off after that
the NFL one season in the early nineties, I think

(08:23):
it was they had two boys, You're still gonna have
plenty of games for national TV. You're gonna have a healthier,
better product. And oh yeah, by the way, you can
manipulate the schedule smartly so that any of these teams
playing on Thursday night are coming off of a bye

(08:43):
and yeah, maybe then they get the like a double
by because of it. And my answer is, so what,
your product will be better, Your players will be happier,
your employees are happier. Virgin I believe it's virgin. Richard
Branson on his virgin right, you know they have them
in days off there's no like, Hey, you only take

(09:04):
like look well as you do your work. I don't
care many days you take off. Now that's obviously excessive,
but the idea is, forget what used to be. We
only give a guy, we only give it teams one
week off, and we want to make uh, Let's try
and get the best out of our athletes. Let's have
them have a longer career, a healthier, more successful season.

(09:26):
If our best players are out there more often, that's
better for them. They're gonna perform better, They're gonna be happier,
Our fans are gonna be happier at the product that
they're seeing. And oh yeah, by the way, fans will
then be happy and everybody think will make sense because
you can have Super Bowl Sunday and go late into
the night and who cares you send it by a
week you go into President's Day weekend and everybody gets

(09:48):
a day off school, which you need anyway. We do
a lot of things in the show, right, but one
of the things we try and do is solve problems.
The NFL has a major issue on their hands. Unhappy
in oft injured players who are concerned about their well
being in and put up during a post career and

(10:14):
I just solved it for you. Hall of Famer Terrell
Davis joins the show. Next, I'll get his thoughts on
Aaron Rodgers returning early from a broken collar bone also
broken clavical It's actually the same thing that's next, but first.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Super m v P and
NFL Network analyst Terrell Davis joins us now on behalf
K Jewelers, number one jewelry store in America, the official
jeweler of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. T D.

(11:59):
How are you doing. I'm great, I'm I'm great as well. Um,
all right, help me out with the Patriots. Uh here
where they were getting ready for the Pittsburgh Steelers. And
I know they didn't have GROUNK and that changes things dramatically,
But they didn't convert a third down against the Miami Dolphins. Um,
and maybe we can shock it up to just one

(12:19):
game or to look ahead game, but god, gosh, that
was bad. Talk to me off that that. Uh, talk
me off, this cliff. If I'm a Patriot fan, well,
I can talk you off because I've been in that
situation before. Um, you know, it really is one game,
and as many games as this team has played and
they've looked phenomenal, you know, we're we're all prone to

(12:42):
having games like that. It is a place that is
difficult to play. Obviously, Brady's record down there is not great,
so he's he's struggled playing down in Miami. So I'm
not as concerned as you might be right now. Now
they do play that the Steelers this week. If I
see the same thing happened this week, then I then

(13:03):
I will be concerned. But as of right now, we've
seen this. This team knows how to bounce back and
adjust better than any team in the NFL. UM So
I still think they are a very good team. I
still have them as as the best team in the
a f C. Now this week of things happened differently
than I might change that, but right now I think
they're still the best team. Um, Okay, what about the

(13:25):
Pittsburgh Steelers. They did beat the Boltibo Ravens, but suddenly
their defense seemed pervious, right, like the Ravens came from
fourteen down and eleven point lead late, they're running the
football all over the Steelers. How much of that, in
your mind was carry over, uh, from from the Bengals
game on a short week? How much of it was, Look,
they don't have Ryan Shays here, that changes them dramatically. Yeah,

(13:46):
I mean, it's it's a little bit of both. You're
talking about the short week, a physical game you just
played against the Bengals, and then you play another division
rival game against the Ravens, and then on the back
end you got the Patriots. So they're going through a
bit of a right now. And Uh, it's just you know,
I think I think we look at teams that we
expect them because of their record or what we think

(14:07):
they can do, just to be able to dominate teams.
I remember going through our stretch, we were a very
good team, but they were There were a lot of
games that we were, you know, having to just ink
out because, uh, it's just tough every every game you play,
and especially you're playing somebody inside the same division, it's
not going to be easy. But at the end of
the day, they did what they had to do. They

(14:28):
won that football game, So I still give them credit.
Drrell Davis joining us in the Doug Gottlieb Show. Aaron
Rodgers uh is going to play this weekend for the
Green Bay Packers. They take on the Carolina Panthers. Now
he uh, he didn't just let a heal on his own.
He had the surgery, so he had the plates put in.
You know, it's thirteen screws put in and two little
rods put into his uh, to his collar bone. What

(14:49):
are your thoughts on Rogers returning this soon from that
type of injury. Yeah, I think he returned from a
similar injury. I think it was his non throwing shoulder
a few years back, and he seemed to be okay.
You know, I'm a little concerned. I mean he did
sort of put this thing on the fast track. Um.
You know, supposedly what doctors are saying that he's fine,

(15:11):
he shouldn't shouldn't be any uh effects of that. That's
that pen and in this bone. Um. I think for
the team, those that huge a huge boost. There are
three games away there, uh, you know they need to
go ahead and finish the season. I think with getting
all three of those games to be a team that
can make it to the postseason. So here's the thing.

(15:31):
What I like. What's great about it. Obviously, you've got
one of the best quarterbacks in the game playing. And
for the National Football League to have that, after all
the injuries we've seen with quarterbacks Carson wins and Deshaun
Watson and uh go down, I think it's good to
see one of the better quarterbacks plan. Now what to expect,
to be honest with you, I don't know. Apparently, if

(15:51):
they cleared him to play, he seems to be fine.
Uh we might see vintage Aaron Rodger in this game.
And I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
I just posed before you joined us TV that look,
the NBA, if people haven't been paying attention to the products,
is a lot better this year. And what they did
was they they lengthened the schedule by a week and
yet kept the same number of games. And they really

(16:12):
worked diligently so that they have fewer back to backs.
They don't have one off trips where they grow across
the country. They just try to make sensible scheduling, which
is what a lot of people talked about with this
Thursday night game, not look, I understand that two people like, well,
just give him a week off before Thursday night football.
It's not that easy because you have the first, you know,
the first Thursday night game, which is usually a super

(16:32):
Bowl winner, right, You got the three Thursday games which
is Thanksgiving. Then there's a couple of weeks for the Thursday.
This the last week with Thursday night games. You don't
have it the last couple of weekends. It's a little
bit harder than that. So my proposal is like, look,
it's not gonna cure the torn a c l s. Okay,
it's not gonna cure some of these injuries that that
end your season automatically torn Achilles tendant, but some of

(16:54):
the bumps, some of the knicks, and just overall good
feeling of players, why not lengthened the season. There was
one year they had two buys. Put the two buys
back in. Okay, try and get it to where if
you have an only play on the Thursday night coming
off of a bye, and then just move the super
Bowl back a week so that it's it's President's Day

(17:14):
weekend and you have that Monday off which people have
been calling for for years. More NFL is a good thing.
Why not just lengthened the season with that? As a
former player and one whose career was frankly cut a
little bit shorter than it should have been, but became
a Hall of Famer, wouldn't that be better for the players,
And if it's better for the players, it becomes better
for the fans. You've really thought this one through, haven't you.

(17:38):
Here's the deal. I don't believe in lengthening the season.
I just think that you don't need to. We used
to have at least four teams every year play on
a Thursday, and that's Thanksgiving right. There was never any
complaint about those teams planned on Thursday. There was never
anybody saying, hey, you know what that game is. You

(17:58):
know it's a short week. The product is bad because
you know we we haven't healed properly. Well, that was
a game in November, the end of November. So if
you're only planning, some teams are only planned on Thursday,
one day, really, one week a year on a Thursday.
So it's like, so, why now is that Thursday games
such a a dangerous game to play? You know, when

(18:21):
I played, we had a game on a Thursday. My
thing was you have to adapt. I mean, you know
what's on the schedule. It's not like they it's not like, uh,
two weeks they give you a short notice of they Okay,
you're gonna play on Thursday. You know what the game
is there. And so I just I don't buy into
the notion that the product is bad or or production
is down, or people get hurt more on Thursday. I

(18:43):
just don't. I'm not even TV. I'm not even necessarily
talking about just the Thursday games specifically, just the idea, like, man,
we got a lot of injuries and and and many
of this, it wouldn't change Odell Beckham Jr. And J. J.
Watt being out, and Andrew Luck being out and Carson
Wentz being out, and like we just kind of go through.
It's an amazing how many Cam Chancellor and Richard Sherman.
It wouldn't. But if you watch the NBA, there are

(19:06):
still injuries, but the players are more enthused about the game.
The product is better, isn't it like better if you
have happier employees. And would NFL players be happier if
they had a little bit more time in between games?
I think, I mean, I guess theoretically yes, but it's
still stretches out the season. And in somebody's mind, it's

(19:27):
already a long season. If you add another week to it,
it just makes it that much longer, you know. Might ope,
I'm like, man, we got a loan with it's a
long season. We just add a lot another week to it,
even if we were not playing a game, even if
we had two buys, it's still stretches the season a
little too far in my opinion. Rrell Davis joining us
on the Doug Gottlip Show here on on Fox Sports Radio.

(19:48):
Let me ask you about the Denver broncos um. How
much blame does John Elway take for the decisions that
they have made at quarterback? How much blame do you
put on Vance Joseph who's just in his first a year,
but this season has gone bad and gone bad. But
you know, before the Jets game obviously last weekend in
a hurry, you know, I think both of them have
to have to take credit for it and takes blame forward.

(20:08):
It's to me, it's always been in team sports. You know,
whether they win a championship or or they're not very good.
You know, it's just it's just kind of the facts
of life there, you know. Um yeah, John certainly needs
to take some some credit for it, fasci Josop needs
needs to take ready for it. Um, you know, Joe
ellis the entire Broncos organization. And then as a team, Um,

(20:29):
the players, coaches, everybody needs to take responsibility for where
they are, you know, as if they you know, in
in in another light, if they were winning, we'd we'd
be saying, uh, these guys are are taking credit for it. So,
you know, it's it's a tough situation. Um that they're
in the season. I think we have to let this
thing sort of play itself out. It really has been

(20:49):
one season. It's been a horrible season, but it's been
one season. And let's see if they can't turn things
around now if you start talking about the same stuff
next year. Now that that now it gets a little serious.
Now you really have to start make some some decisions,
whether it's whether it's with coaching changes, whether it's with
administrative changes or executive changes. So, um, I like to
think that this is a short term problem and I

(21:11):
think they can probably turn this thing around. We talked
about k Jewelers a little bit coming in. Tell me
what you're doing with K Jewelers for the holidays. Yeah,
I'm excited to be with K Jewelers today, man and
K Jewelers. As you know, it's the number one Jrewy
store in America. It's the official Drewey store of the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. And we're just uh you know,
uh sending people to to to K either go to

(21:32):
a cad Uk Jewelers store or go the K dot
com to really make their holiday a special holiday and
trying to get that gift, uh, to to make it that. Um,
you know, the profile for ProFootball Hall of Fame is
really trust the cative to make these You can't see it,
but I have a ring on my finger. It's the
it's the Ring of Excellence. And uh, you know, if
if the Pro Football Hall of Fame can trust K

(21:53):
to make this ring, then you know then uh then
you imagine what the K can do for you. So, um,
it's been a great holiday a season and uh you
can really make your holiday season memorable. Yeah, no question
about it. Plus even any woman who's like no, no no, no,
don't need any jewelry, like there's it's you're never You're
never wrong to go with jewelry. You just you just aren't. Yeah, right,

(22:13):
t D. Thanks so much for joining us. Look forward
to seeing in n NFL Network. Appreciate it. That's Terrell
Davis Class Act NFL Network Hall of Famer course for
Bronco George Dog legend Um. Here's the way I look
at buying jewelry. Okay, it's a lot like wearing a
sport code or wearing a suit. You know you can.
You're better off over purchasing. You're like, I don't know,

(22:34):
too soon in the relationship to buy any sort of
jewelry nonsense. It's like you're better off being overdressed and underdressed.
You're better off buying too much jewelry. No, you're not
necessarily an engagement ring. You know, we're a promise ring.
But if you're like early on relationship, I get you
some sort of ring, ear rings, necklace, bracelet. There's not

(22:56):
a woman in the world is gonna go like, I
just I don't need this, I don't I don't need this.
What are you doing? No, thank you. It's like flower flowers,
the same thing. By the way, you can never go
wrong getting women flowers. I don't you know I like flowers,
but I just don't need them. They will they die.
Then you get flowers like I love them. Makes the

was a beautiful time. And I can't confirm. Every kiss

(24:00):

send all checks to Dan Buyer, Premier Rion or um Dan.
What do you have? Have you asked Santa for a
gift this year? I do make a list, I do
make collusion every year of course. Seriously, yes, things, We're

(24:20):
gonna get to this in a second. I go with
the sports, all right, I will I will start with
how about that Rogers guy. Obviously, the procedure of coming
off firere that that happens later in the week. But
he's preparing himself for this moment like every player. I mean,
that is different. There's a there's a process of procedure
um you go through rehab, you know. From his perspective,

(24:43):
I mean, he's always prepared himself to get back. Packers
head coach Mike McCarthy confirming Aaron Rodgers on track to
start Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, returning from his broken
collar bone. Eagles out of jack or it's clear, concuss
your protocol on practice today after missing your Week fourteen
win over the Rams. We know that commissioned Roger Goodwell
got a contract, the extension. Apparently it's gonna be the
final one because this will be the last deal for Goodell,

(25:05):
according to NFL spokesperson Joe Lockhart, who says Goodell will
step aside after the four season when his contract expires.
Towards the end of that he'll help in finding a
new commissioner, Like, whatever, what Sorry, I blow my nose
and my million dollar bills. Uh yeah, you go. You
can have to take this job and shove it. The

I don't know. I got I got mostly everything that
I need in life, to be honest with you, Doug,
but I honestly have no idea. Um I thought of you,
um this past weekend. Um, this is this is not
creepy in anyway. I know you're a big boogie boarder
more than surfer. Right. And so my eight year old son,
in addition to being a football fan of football, want

(26:50):
to be as you know, in southern California, the weather
was incredible this past week is eighty five degrees, and
so he's like, Dad, let's go hit, let's go, let's go.
We went to Blackie's in Newport Beach and he's out there,
and he's out there boogie boarding with the surfers, and
he's like, yeah, they say I need a fin, they
say I need fins. So here's my question, Santa is
gonna get him fins? Is there a fin or fins

(27:10):
you would recommend? Um, probably Churchill's. Um, I've I've been
rocking Churchills for a while. Now I actually don't. I
don't actually don't bodyboard too much. Actually went to Santoh
this last weekend. We had a little bit of time off,
and uh, some of my surfer buddies were trying to
um teach me how to surf a little bit better.
So so I did that. But um no, for for

(27:33):
a while, I've been rocking Churchills, So um you should
get them thos for sure. Okay, Churchills and they you're
you're up crushing waves in San Clementi. It's it's interesting.
Maybe your superpowers as a quarterback come from years of
being down there close to Santao. Fred, you know nuclear
power plant gives you superpowers? Um, I don't know due
to the you're gonna survive the NFL drug testing, Like
you have superhuman powers because of the days uh bodyboarding

(27:57):
and surfing close to Santino. Frey, Yeah, maybe he know.
It's Uh, it's definitely possible. How would you characterize your season? Um?
I think there were obviously some ups and downs. Um
I I overall thought I played pretty well. And I'm
really proud of the guys honestly for the way that
we've battled all year. Um, you know, battling back from

(28:18):
the loss against Flawzoo and the lass against Monor Dame. Uh,
you know, two really tough teams that we played, and
I thought we bounced back pretty well against those teams.
And then, um, a game that I'm really proud of
is the Utah game, being down seven I think at
half and being able to come back, um, and you know,
a good fashion against a great Utah team. It was

(28:38):
a tough game. But yeah, I think overall, Um, just personally,
I think I played pretty well. Um. Obviously, some turnovers
in the first half of the season that I wish
I could have back, But I thought I played pretty
clean football in the second half of the year, and um,
kind of got back to what I do best and
just kind of protecting the ball. And I thought I
played pretty well honestly in the last half of the

(29:00):
season that you see you see a game was awesome,
you know, you versus Rosen. Obviously he showed his talents.
You showed yours. Remember the play at the end of
the first half where you're trying to make a play
and you're scrambling around and you end up getting tackled
I don't know, three yard line or something. The clock
ran out, and you're like, uh, you know when you
probably should have found a way to just kind of
get out of bounds. What's that like when you're back

(29:21):
there and you're you're doing your you're doing your you
know donald thing, and you have to worry about time
and score and and where the first down marker is. Yeah,
I mean that's that's something that that should have It
should have been an easy play for me to just
go back there and roll to my left and realize
nothing was really there and just throw the ball away
knowing that we don't have any time out and the

(29:43):
clocks running low. Um, maybe maybe get some points on
the bar with a field goal at the end. But
just trying to do too much in that situation. But um, yeah, sometimes, um,
even with some of the turnovers that happened in the
first half of the season, and you know, in general role,
sometimes I can be trying to do too much and

(30:03):
that's something that I need to continue to work on.
But also you know, there's a fine line between um,
you know, trying to make a play and doing too much. So, um,
it's something that I'm going to continue to work on
and grow. And yeah, and look, and you can't be
you can't play scared, right, you can't think about every
throw like you and and you have new receiving corps

(30:24):
for the most part this year as well, So some
of that isn't all on you, and I know you
take all of the blame. How do you find that
balance between Look, I still got to make plays in
order for us to win. On the other hand, I
can't turn the football over because that's the easiest way
to lose a game. How do you find that balance? Yeah,
I think I think it just kind of comes naturally.
I'm going to continue to play football and like you said,
not play scared. And I think the best way to

(30:45):
do that is to just, um always, just continue to
play like like myself and to just continue to do that,
but at the same time be smart with the football
and that that's my number one priority as a core
back is to take care of the football. Um. But
when it plays there to be made, I'm gonna try
to make it. Sam Donald joining us in the Doug

(31:06):
Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports radio. There are many
that have been speculating about your future, whether it's at
SC or in the National Football League. How are you
approaching this bowl game? Yeah, I'm just continuing to prepare
for a great Ohio State team, uh, top five team
in the country and um, you know, well deserving of that,

(31:28):
and we're continuing to prepare here and that's that's my
only worry right now. I'm I'm not gonna worry about
the NFL stuff until um after the bowl game. I'm
gonna talk to my family and talk to some people
about that, and I think that's just how I'm gonna
go about it right now. Just my first my only

(31:48):
focus really is beating the buck Eyes, all right. So
I'm I'm cool with not not putting you on the
spot because it's an impossible position, but I help us
out with the like what do you need to hear?
Because I don't think there's anybody who's not going to
tell you you're a top five pick, right, So, like,
what is it that you want to know that you
want to hear in order to to to make the decision?

(32:09):
But what what's it? What's the decision really based upon? Um?
I mean there's some stuff I need to look at.
I mean, obviously, uh, just the numbers, how the numbers
that up and um, all that kind of stuff, and
then how I can if I do decide to stay, Um,
how I can get better and all that kind of stuff,
and what what the risk is in staying, what the

(32:30):
risk is in leaving. It's basically I'm just gonna make
a list of pros and cons, uh, whether it's staying
or whether it's leaving. So, UM, I think that's that's
how I'm gonna go about it. And um, but like
I said, I'm not gonna worry about it until after
the ball game. Yeah, you know it's interesting, Um, stay
there's given me some changes on your coaching staff. Uh

(32:51):
obviously T Martin staying, but some other other changes in
terms of who's calling plays and who's with different positions
on the offensive side of the football. You mentioned that
you got to figure out, Hey, if I stay, what
do I have to improve on? Um, let's start with
the positive. What do you think you've improved on the most?
Because I do think there are people like, well, look,
you had more interceptions this year, Like well, hold on,

(33:11):
just because you had more interceptions does not mean you
actually didn't play better. What do you think the one
thing or one or two things you've actually done better
so far have been I think just controlling the offense.
And that's that's one of the things that I really
wanted to get better at, and I think I did
a good job of that this year. Um, honestly, a
better job than I did last year. Um, I just
controlled the offense pretty well, UM, had a really good understanding,

(33:35):
and then secondly, just had a really good understanding. I think, Um,
obviously I'm not um there yet with understanding defenses and
what kind of coverages they're throwing at me and um,
you know, disguising blitz is and all that kind of stuff.
But I definitely think I did a better job of
that this year than I did last year, and being
able to slide protection towards where I might be hot

(33:58):
at and all that kind of stuff. So, UM, I
did a better job this year of that as well. UM.
You know, I think, UM, the numbers sometimes can be
a little misleading in terms of um all that a
quarterback does. And you know we always talk about that
as quarterbacks, you've got to control the whole offense. UM,
And if there's you know, if there's a path play

(34:18):
up and you check to a run play and it
goes for a touchdown, you know you're not necessarily going
to get a ton of credit for that. Um, But
you know, those are just kind of the things that
a quarterback has to do. And I think I did
a really good job of that this year. Um. And
as I you know said, I think I'm going to
continue to get better in those areas and continue to
watch film and um, you know, learn as I continue

(34:42):
to grow as a quarterback. You worked on your release
a bunch. You worked on kind of changing and making
your release a little bit more concise. In the off season,
some you know, you get that kind of game slippage
where you your default back, you know, you default back
to your your your normal kind of throwing motion. What's
that been like working through the new release to the
one you've you've thrown with for you know, fifteen years previously, right, Um,

(35:04):
it's definitely it's it's been kind of a learning curve there.
I mean, uh, in the off season I worked on it,
but like like you said, during the season and during
a game, you can't really worry about your throwing motion. Uh,
there's there's so many other things going on, um that
I can't worry about it even you know, during practice, Um,
I gotta worry about, um what's going on and all

(35:26):
that kind of stuff with the offense. So um, it's
it's hard to work on things like that in the
during the season. But this offseason I'm going to continue
to work on it. And but yeah, it's it can
be hard in in the heat of the battle. I
guess you could say, all right, look, dude, they've got
a nasty defensive line. Uh. Sam Donald joining us USC quarterback.
They have a nasty, nasty defensive line. And there are

(35:48):
some that would say, look, you're not playing for national chance.
I know you won the Rose Bowl last year and
this is the Cotton Bowl and it's a historic game.
You're gonna be a top five pick. Is there is
there any way in which you would not play this
game in order to protect yourself for the future. Um No, no,
there's no way. I mean, it's it's such a big
bowl game and uh, like you said, it's it's a huge,

(36:09):
such a rich tradition in in both programs. I think
just being able to I think, you know, coach coach
Clay said it to us in the meeting. It's Ohio
States team, it's our team. So that's a pretty rich tradition.
And I'm just excited to be able to compete against,
you know, a great Ohio State team. Like you said,
it's it's gonna be a great challenge for us to

(36:31):
go up against that d line and that that whole defense. So, um,
I'm really excited for the challenge, and UM, we're preparing
really well right now. But it's definitely gonna be Um,
it's definitely gonna be a challenge, but I think we're
ready for it, and I think we're preparing really well
for it right now. If it's anything like last year's
Rose Bowl. Can't wait to just watch the game and
watch you compete. In the meantime, do appreciate the heads

(36:53):
up on the fins to get a little dude, and
we'll we'll try and search for a product that because
you think you got everything, which is great, blessed life.
I'm sure we can find you something. Sam, thanks so
much for joining us. All right, that's Sam Sam Donald
from USC joining us on the Doug Gotlip Show. LaVar
Ball is refusing to meet with Magic Johnson regarding his
comments about Luke Walton. Is that real news or fake news?

I got nothing wrong most who is that Martina McBride McBride.

(37:39):
I like Mark Da McBride who she married to camera
somebody famous? I feel like she's married to the beautiful
woman UM talent as well. There was a Christmas special
on last night. It was Gwen to Stefani at a
Christmas Special and like the her and Blake thing right,
Like I mean, like look at who doesn't like the

(38:00):
voice is a very imminently likable show. That's really the
kind of the m O of the show. Um and
only the voices work all that well together. And now
Gwen Stefani is also we had Sam Donald on. There
was a little bro talk there. If you guys didn't understand, Uh,
he's from Orange. He's from South Orange County and from
Central Orange County. Uh and so we know I know
some of the people obviously now older people that have

(38:23):
been around his life or whatever. Santa No Free is
a now closed nuclear power plant, close nuclear power plant
that's near San Clementi. That's where I said he get
the superpowers from. Right anyway, But so is Gwen Stefani,
who I've never found crazy attractive, but crazy crazy talented
doesn't mean she's not attractive, just like not my thing,

(38:43):
right a sack. This is game time. The dog got leads.
Let's quickly get through some of the stuffoy games a
dan buyer. Today we are playing real news fake news.
Real news are fake nos. LaVar Ball rejected an offer
to meet with the Lakers president Magic Johnson and g
M Rob Polenka over his critical comments about head coach

(39:06):
Luke Walton. No chance I believe that's fake news. You
are fake it is. He did take a meeting with
it too, says he likes other sides continue to have
open communication and the light time says the Lakers did
ask him to tone down his rhetoric when it came
to the head. St f you, that's what the real
news are fake news. Doug Paul George says he doesn't
care at all what happens tonight as he faces his

(39:27):
old team, and he won't be affected as the Thunder
face the Pacers. That's real news. You are fake news. Actually,
George said, I might be nervous off the court about
being booed, but being on the court is my comfort zone.
It's basketball, It's what I do. So there could be
some flea game jitters. He also said that this is
VIC season. VIC being Victor Oladipo is very kind. There's

(39:48):
the season that Victor Oladipos had. Real news are fake news, Doug.
The city of Indianapolis will host the NBA All Star
weekend news. Yeah, how about that on the heels of
the Chicago game in twenty India is gonna get it.
With an announcement coming up in a matter of minutes,
the game will take place at Banker's Life Fieldhouse, but

(40:08):
all of the other festivities will take place at Lucas
Soil Stadium. And listen to It's a great city for events.
I just feels kind of smallish, unbelievable. Uh. Underrated airport
though underrated first class airport. Finally, Doug, real news or
fake news? The giants fallback plan after not getting John
Carlos Stanton is to sign j Bruce in trade for

(40:29):
Billy Hamilton's Yeah, that is real news. Ken Rosenthal of
the MLB on Fox says that is their plan, as
the team has been in contact with Bruce's agent USA
Today says that Bruce is a top the Giants wish
list is all. This is game time on The Duck

(40:49):
Gotli Show, It's crazy considered how bad the first half
season with the Mets went for J. Bruce compared to
how good his season went last year for Ja Brows. Now,
he's a hot commodity, really really remarkable. The Cowboys have
something in common with the Celtics. I'll share it with
you up coming next in The Doug Gotlip Show, Fox
Sports Radio. What Up? Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio

(41:13):
Live and Direct from the City of Angels on a
Wednesday hump Day? What what love? That hump day commercial
lines good mercial. That's a good mercial. And Jerry Jones
said something that's actually interesting, really interesting. Um, We're gonna

(41:34):
catch up with Bucky Brooks from the NFL Network. He's
gonna join us in studio here right in about fifteen minutes.
That'd be great. So Bucky Brooks, who along with our
man Daniel Jeremiah, they do a tremendous podcast. Uh and
Bucky Brooks courts, former player in the nash Football League,
breakdown some stuff for us. We'll ask him about this

(41:54):
little bitty of an opinion. You know, it's interesting. Um.
I do think that the Cowboys are still alive. I
do think that the Cowboys could be a spoiler in
the playoffs. And while the Cowboys aren't great, remember without
Ezeki Elliott two and three on the year, without Ezekie Elliott,

(42:17):
five touchdowns, five interceptions for Dak Prescott. They will get
Zekei Elliott back in time for the playoffs coming off suspension.
Supposedly want to lose some weight as well, be lighter,
and he'll be fresh and he'll be arrested. And so
you look at the Cowboys and their upcoming schedule, though
not easy. Seven and six, which is the same record
as the Packers. Raiders on the road on Sunday night.

(42:41):
Then they played the Seahawks, who are massively depleted by injury.
See the Seahawks. I have a big home game this week.
Then they play the Eagles the final game of the season,
but with Nick Foles now the starting quarterback the Eagles,
the Eagles are in the playoffs and got a home
field even if they only have home field in the
first round, but the Eagles have a chance to have
home field throughout, like they may shut it down. Like

(43:02):
Cowboys will be favored when their last at least last two.
Are they favored this week? Guys? Do you know? What
do we know? I'm looking at the thing and I
don't see a line. Dan buy Are they favored this week?
I'm sorry? What was the matchup? Doug Raiders? Cowboys? Oh,
Cowboys are about field goal favorite? Yeah, so the Cowboys
will be favored in all three of their games, and
they're gonna get zeke Yelly. Zekeelly comes back next week,

(43:23):
didn't he Yeah, against the Seahawks. So I mean, like, look,
they said gonna shout to make the playoffs. And while
I have been I've been ahead of this thing for
the season, I began that, look, I like Dak Prescott,
but I'm not in love with Dak Prescott the level
that everybody else is in love or was in love.

(43:44):
And I think I'm very very reasonable about who he
is and what he is and how he fits into
the Cowboys kind of master plan, if you will. And
while he has been exposed as a second year quarterback
who might not be a superstar over the past five weeks,

(44:07):
it's not crazy to think that this could be the
best thing that ever happened to them. Tell you who
it relates to in a second, here's Jerry Jones. We're
just better. Frankly, Uh, it hurt us to miss Zeke,
but as far as Dak is concerned, we've got a
better player for having gone through this. I don't recommend
it for the Cowboys, of course, but we've got a

(44:27):
better player, We've got a better future because he's gone
through this period of time without Zeke Um. I kind
of think that's like the Celtics. I kind of think
it's like the Celtics, like, look, are there some bad
habits that you get when you don't have Gordon Hayward?
Sure are they gonna win an NBA title without Gordon

(44:49):
Hayward now? But it's bound the Celtics together. It's allowed
Kyrie Irving to organically be Um the leader, the unquestioned leader,
leading score for the Celtics already even though he's only
been on the Celtics for five minutes, and the master

(45:10):
plan is to be successful for a long period of time,
not a short period time. That's the same for the Cowboys.
Remember when when your fourth round draft pick. The Cowboys
are not actually even able to negotiate a new contract
for Dak Prescott until after next season, and it's after
his third year then they can negotiate a contracts extension.

(45:32):
So they'll still have they they have a and I
don't I wouldn't call him a star quarterback, but you
have a starting franchise caliber quarterback, whatever you think of him,
at a fraction of the price, a fraction of the price.
But how valuable that is. As much as Zekey Elliott
is a tremendous player, and he was but the fourth

(45:54):
pick in the NFL draft, he's still on a rookie deal.
Like their plan is to be to load up with
players and load up with talent while they have guys
on these contracts, these two rookie second year players on
these contracts before those contracts can be redone and so
for the Cowboys, trial by fire, Like you didn't simply

(46:18):
take Dak Prescott out of Mississippi State and throw him
in the deep end because he was surrounded by so
many good players last year. But he had water wings
up until the last five games. And now you're like,
all right, no water wings, say you swim And he's
kept his head above waters there two and three he
almost drowned, but he didn't drown. Like it's a big

(46:40):
dig it almost round, but it didn't do. The other
reminds me of Um So I have a I have
I think the cutest dog alive. Uh great dog has
only one flaw, and that he likes me a little
bit too much. At like four thirty five in the morning.
He likes to go to the park, run around, go
take a dump in the bushes. It takes some of
the bushes, which I love because I don't have to
pick it up. Um that's not wrong. It's deep in

(47:03):
the thick bushes like nobody's going in there anyway. Um
So I have a sheepa doodle. Now, I don't know
what other doodles are like, Like I would say golden
doodles and laber doodles are probably better swimmers than sheepa doodles.
But when we first moved into our home, in California.
I wanted to throw him in right. Although I can swim,

(47:24):
I'm always like no, no, no, no no. He got in
and it was not pretty. It was he kind of
looks like you know, he looks like ros you're a star,
you do like Star Wars? Correct, that's affirmative. Dug what
are those? Uh? What are the Empire strikes back? They're
like they're like walkers, only they have it looks like

(47:46):
a body and ahead and then it fires too, and
Luke is Luke flies around him and uses like a
rope and those are a T a T walkers, t
a T walkers. That's what That's what my dog looks like.
He kind of walks like no, no, he doesn't walk
like that. He just has super long legs. And then

(48:07):
like a body, it looks like you fall anyway. He's
like lung. So my wife, actually this is true story.
She actually tried to teach my dog how to swim.
My my mom up until last week. My my rest
in peace to uh Gus the wonder dog, my my wife.
Actually I think that this week I came this week.
Last week was last week. Um Gus didn't make it.

(48:30):
I guess like fourteen but Gus is blind. He had
all kinds of issues like death, and finally he just
my mom went to Florida. When she was gone, the
caretaker for the dog was like, he ain't gonna make
it and my wife can't pick him up, took him
to the vet and anyway, So but because Gus was
his blood was blind, my mom actually had a dog

(48:53):
as kid, you not a dog life vest, even though
when he was not blind, because he had fallen in
to her friend's pool before she went her friend's house left,
the dog got back and all of a sudden she
hears him splashed around, and you know, it's one thing
to have a dog in a pool that does not
to get out. So I think that's a blind, deaf
dog that can't get out of the pool. So my
wife puts the dog vest on my dog and over

(49:17):
the process of a week, like really like, let's the
dog kind of learn how to swim. And so at
some point the dog tried to jump in the pool,
chased after one of my kids, and you know what,
kind of like Dak Prescott, it wasn't pretty, but he
learned and he can swim to the edge and get
himself out and now like he can swim. Now gets

(49:38):
to the pool. We have no fear of him getting
in the pool. He thinks he's saving kids lives. Like
he jumps in and all of a sudden he's like, oh,
I got him in the pool. I gotta swim out.
Not really helping anybody. That's what Dak Prescott is doing, right.
He had the water wings with Zeke Elliott, with Dez Bryant,
with the best offensive line in football, and he's like,
I'm swimming. I'm swimming. You're like, you're not really he's

(50:00):
swimming there, dude, it is not really what it's like
to play quarterback in the NFL. You're playing gets a
soft schedule with the best offensive line, the best running back,
and veterans that have all been Pro Bowlers. Like, that's
not swimming swimming? Is you miss Tyron Smith. You don't
have ZEKEI Elliott, Dez Bryant, doesn't demand a double team,
can't get open nearly as often. Jason Wenton appears to

(50:22):
be washed up. You know. Yeah, by the way, in
the defensive side of the ball, shan Lee was injured,
Like that is here you go, Let's see if you
swim and he's he he kind of dolly paddled, but
he pulled himself out and now he's like, you know,
I kind of feel comfortable. It's not pretty, but it's effective.
It's effective. Rammos. How old were your kids in then swim?

(50:46):
How is Lucas been learned swim? Uh? He's six now,
like five, he's been doing the last year. He's been
learning how to swim last year. Yeah, mhmm. Yeah, he learned.
My sister has a pool, so my brother in kind
of helped him, and then we took him to the
Rose Bowl Aquatic Center to learn with professionals. I guess
they would say, so, yeah, that's cool. Uh. Yeah. My

(51:09):
girls they started taking swim lessons to a really little
and then Harper learned when she's like three or four,
Grace was just fighting all the lessons or whatever. Then
she thinks she taught herself to swim in like a
hot tub last time we moved out here. Those are
the best places to learn, and she's like she was
using a life fest She's like that, I think I

(51:30):
can do it, and she's like swam up like put
basically like pushed herself across that that. But sure enough
she learned how to swim. Hayes was like he was
three years old and he had always had like a
life fest on whatever. He went and took one swim
lesson at the j c C. And I went and
watched it, like he swam amazing. That of amazing. We
think of ourselves as the smartest species, and yet most

(51:50):
other species, she just they just hopping water and they
can swim. Take some of our kids years and find
years learning to swim. Right. Bucky Brooks joins the show
from the NFL Network. Up coming next, we'll ask him
about Dak. Has this been the best thing to ever
happened to Deck or is it just kind of exposed
really the ceiling for Dak Prescott plus the return of

(52:11):
Aaron Rodgers. Is this is a dumb move bing Aaron
Rodgers out there? I don't think so. Um, And I
felt like Tom Brady looked forty years old for the
first time he did. Life comes at a fast type thing.
Am I freaking out over Monday Night Football? The great
Buckey Brooks from the NFL Network up next? But first,

(52:33):
I heard this crazy story over the weekend about these twins.
They grew up and they found out that their mom
she doesn't know who the real father is, so it
just crushes these dudes. So the brothers set out on
a mission to find their dad, and as it turns out,
there mom was a bit wild back in the day,
and there were many options for who might actually be
their dad. Like I'm talking former NFL players, small town vet,

(52:56):
big city cops, coked out hedge fund guys, anyone, I
mean anyone could have been their dad. They fly all
over the country and these dudes are piecing together clues,
meeting up with all sorts of crazy characters, crashing funerals,
picking up hitchhikers, getting shot at, and getting into all
sorts of crazy situations just to find their old man.

(53:17):
And then at the end it turns out Nah, I
can't spoil the end of the movie. This is the
plot for Father Figures. It's a hilarious new comedy starring
Owen Wilson and Helms and a bunch of other awesome people.
It's in theaters everywhere a week from Friday December. Rated

Fox Sports Radio. Ramos, you know, God bless you. Um.

(54:00):
But if if you thought, I think your DJ skills
are like gonna get you a gig. You know we're
owned by Premier Networks. It's I Heart Radio. You can
listen to us in the I Heart app. All kinds
of great things happen on that I Heart app. You
haven't downloaded, you should, and you know I Heart Radio
they have Christmas only stations on the app, and of

(54:20):
course in many of the markets across the countries, over
a thousand I Heart stations. Right. So, I don't know
if if Ramos is trying to become an I Heart DJ,
but your your Christmas music selection is to the like
if I was like a fifty five year old lady
from Encino, like, I think it would be awesome. Well
here again, and I'm sorry taking about your Brooks time,

(54:43):
but there's not a lot of Christmas songs that are
like they're all Christmas songs. I mean, I don't really
know what this is. That was a Spice Girls, not
a contemporary group of close enough, Spice Girls is a contemporary.
So there you go, Spicy Girls. I think, well, well
we'll have to have I don't think you're challenging yourself

(55:04):
to find better Christmas music. That's that's my belief. And
this is this is only from a place of love.
That's what I understand, because I'm just you know, usually
we play good, we could play good beats. All right,
let's get let's get after. Let's welcome in Bucky Brooks.
He joins us in studio from the NFL Networks Doug
Gotlie Show, Fox Sport trait. The big news of the
day is Aaron Rodgers is back now, um, frankly with

(55:28):
some inside information. I told you this would happen, um.
And I am not as cautious about Aaron Rodgers re
injuring that clavical collar bone whatever you want to call it,
as others are. But I didn't play in the league.
Bucky did. Bucky covers it for the NFL Network. He
and um Dana Jere might have a great podcast you
should download. Uh. If if you were advising Aaron Rodgers

(55:51):
can you tell him come back. Oh absolutely, he's your
franchise quarterback. He gives you an opportunity to make a
run at the super Bowl. And so if you're the
Green Bay Packers, you've been just trying to tread water
until your guy comes back. And because he is diligently
been working to put himself in a position to get back,
you absolutely handed the ball and you say, all right,

(56:12):
go win it for us. Okay, But I think there
are some people. The first thing is, you know he
had the he had the steel rods put in there
for support and thirteen screws, which was the second which
was the surgery that Romo had after he broke it
the second time. So I'm led to believe that it
would take a pretty substantial beating in order to break
that thing again. But also like it's a collar bone, right,

(56:33):
that's never ended anybody's career, So God forbid, something does
happen in these next three games. Worst case scenario, has
the whole off season to rehab and he'll be five
you back and ready next year. Correct, Correct. I don't
think there's a significant risk and putting them back on
the field, particularly if everyone is cleared the doctors have
done it and understand. The Green Bay factors understand this
is their guy. He's different as quarterback. If they're gonna

(56:55):
take any precautions, they're gonna make sure they take precautions
with him. I think the big thing that you want
to make sure is not only can he spend it
and do the things that you want to see from
him as a thrower, but can he protect himself? Can
he get away from rushers? Can he find a way
to really protect himself. That would be the challenge for
Aaron Rodgers, because as much as we adore him for

(57:15):
what he's able to do as a thrower, so many
of his plays come because he's able to run around
and elude and evade and improvise. Can he still be
the same player? Probably not to that same degree, but
he still can be a guy that can be a
nice playmaker outside the park. And the Vikings did have
a depleted offensive line last weekend, but the Carolina Panthers
lived in that defensive backfield. How good at full strength

(57:37):
with Aaron Rodgers? They've kind of established a little bit
of a running game without him. How good are the
Packers with Rogers? In your mind? I think they're good
enough to to challenge and make a run. And the
only reason because they're only a handful of guys that
can kind of tilt the skills of balance. Aaron Rodgers
can tilt the skills because he's one of those premier
players we talked about, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers.

(58:00):
Those guys can single handedly gets you win, no question.
Last year though their defense, the defensive backfield was too depleted.
Right last year, they couldn't do it. Is the defense
god like defense. You're you're not gonna win this thing
unless your defense on part. I know that I want
to get to the Patriots in the moment. But is
everything else good enough or better than last year? No?

(58:21):
He makes them right though he's the best deodorant in football.
He makes everything better just by his his performance. His
ability to make plays allows this team to mask a
lot of the flaws that they have. They're not constructed
like a traditional championship team, but because he is so
good and when he is hot, he can erase those things.
That's what everyone is hanging all right. The Minnesota Vikings

(58:43):
are constructed a little bit more like a traditional champion team.
Outstanding defense, outstanding defense. Offensive line when healthy has been
pretty good this year, and even when they lost Dalvin Cook,
they've still had a good enough running game. And Case
Keenum has looked as good as he's ever looked as
an NFL starting quarterback this season. Last weekend was a
disaster night. It was on the road. They're better at home,

(59:03):
and it was with a line that should be healthy
by the end of the season. Um, how good legitimately
do you believe the Vikings will be in the playoffs?
I believe the Vikings are built to be in the
Winter Circle. And the reason I say they can get
all the way to the big game and maybe win it. Defensively,
they're outstanding. They can lock you down, they can rush
to pass, or they can knock you around create turnovers. Offensively,

(59:25):
they found a way to piece mill and running game.
Uh let Tavis Murray Jent McKinnon are giving them a
nice one to punch in the backfield. Case Keenan has
played out of his mind, but part of the reason
he's been able to play so well his receivers and stuff.
And Adam Adam Teton doesn't get enough credit for being
a guy that is a really, really good wi. He's
an NFL walk on, like literally and that like Baker

(59:47):
Mayfields a walk on when the Heisman Trophy. Adam Dealing
went to a tryout camp, Like who goes to a
tryout camp? And it's one thing to like make the team,
be on special teams and get attacked like whoa Like
I was the Philadelphia Eagles cat they made the the movie.
Yeah I came last name, right. I mean, he's like
a specialty. Is like a fan to give a spec

(01:00:08):
like that's nice. He's become an elite wide receiver in
the NFL, and he was an NFL walk on. He was,
And I think the thing that has lost that is
pro Day. When he worked out, he ran four four nine.
He has a thirty six inch vertical. So you're talking
about a guy that is a really good athlete, and
I think when he runs out, people don't know what
they're about to deal with because he's faster and more

(01:00:28):
athletic than you anticipate. Dude, Yeah, I mean you put
that up. Yes, So because because he's out there, maybe
people don't understand how athletic he is. But he's an
explosive playmaker. In the last two years, he ranks in
the top five in terms of yards of twenty yards
catches of over twenty yards, and so he's a big
time playmate. He's averaging fourteen yards of catch and between

(01:00:50):
him and Stefan Digs, they have a nice once you
punch on the outside where they make case Keenom look
better than he's performed because they go and win those
fifty fifty balls that normally would be interception at Kyle
Kyle Rudolph very good tight end, pass catching tight end
as well. Bucky Brooks in the NFL network, Jhonia stug
Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Okay, let's get to the Eagles.
Um I was talking with cow Herd earlier today and

(01:01:10):
he's like, look, Nick Foles, as long as he's not
playing for Jeff Fisher, Like Jeff Fisher ruins, everybody's everybody's number.
He's just a bad offensive coach, super conservative. Look what
happened with Jared Goff, Look what happened with case Keenum,
Look what happened with Folds. Do you buy that that
the drop off between wins and foals is not so
great that the Eagles should completely cancel plans for the playoffs. No,

(01:01:32):
I think that Fiddler Ift Eagles can continue to be
a super Bowl team, not only because they're built the
right way, but their quarterback is good enough to get
him there. It's one of those things when you see
a guy do it once, you have to believe that
he can do it again. He went twenty seven and
two touchdown the interception ratio a few years back on
the Chip Kelly and even though I wouldn't say that
he's an m v P caliber quarterback, he's certainly is

(01:01:52):
good enough to be a capable starter in this situation
with Doug Peterson, who knows him. Will Andy Reid probably
developed him. Doug had an opportunity to be around him before,
so he can build a system that emphasizes his strength
and make sure that he is in a situation to
play good football. I think Nick Foles will be okay.
Will he be able to do some of the things
that Carson Wentz was able to do. No, they'll scale

(01:02:13):
back some of the r P o's to run pass
option plays that they were doing. They won't make him
necessarily a runner, but they still can kind of operate
the way that they were operating because they have a
balanced roster running backs. Are good wide receivers are solid.
Defense can carry it away a little bit. He just
needs to manage the game and not turn it over.
And I look, I know the Chip system is different,
but Chip had tried to have him on the move,
and I know Chip was a little frustrated, but it

(01:02:33):
wasn't like he hasn't hasn't moved back there in the pocket. Yeah,
and he can do some of those things, like some
of those things that Chip Kelly was doing. Those things
still applying this current offense. Will you want Nick Foles
to be a guy that is running his own read
not necessarily, but you still can run some of those
concepts because he's good at it. He's a better athlete thing.
He was a really good basketball He's a good complete

(01:02:53):
stiff at the quarterback. I was telling guys like, he's
actually a really good basketball player. Places down in Orange
County where you should move to? Um Okay the Dallas Cowboys.
I look, I've I've never been. I wasn't as bullish
on Dak early last year as other people were because
he was surrounding I consider all that talent. They had
water wings right, like he thought he was swimming like
he ain't really swimming, and then this year, then this

(01:03:16):
year they throw it. They're like, take off the water wings, right,
Tyrann Smith's gon Zeke Elliott's gone. He's like, whoa. Now
he's kept his head kind of above water. Might be
the best thing for him, right in terms of improving
as a quarterback. Um, let's say they can survive this
weekend without Zeke, they get to the playoffs. What's what
is your outlook on this version, this incarnation of the

(01:03:37):
Dallas Cowboys dangerous team, their dangerous team because what they've
finally done is gone back to the formerly that they
need to do to win games. You kind of get
caught up when you have a quarterback have a lot
of success, Like, yeah, you're try and put a little
more on his shoulders, trying to spread it out. Hey,
let's be around the quarterback because all years, oh, it's
a quarterback driven lead. We gotta pass, we gotta pass,
gonna pass. The Dallas Cowboys are at their best when

(01:03:57):
they let the running game lead the way Zeke Elliott
makes everyone else better. Das Run is no longer an
elite receiver. Jason Wittnen is an elite receiver. They need
twenty one in the backfield because he draws and attracts
the defense. They put an extra defend in the box.
Now Dare's Brian and Jason wouldn't get one on one.
They're able to win in those situations. Dak Prescott can

(01:04:18):
throw better because now he's facing one on one instead
of too deep coverage split safety looks that are a
little more complicated for the quarterback. So when they return
with twenty one Zeke Elliott, they become a team that
people really don't want to face because they can run
the ball, they can control the clock, they can limit
your possessions, and their defense is a team that plays downhill,

(01:04:39):
mean that they play really good with the lead. If
they're able to do that, they can make it tough
on anybody in the NFC. Help me out with Matt
Ryan two years ago, he couldn't stop turning the football over.
Last year, everything he did was perfect. Right. Uh, start
comes in there as offensive coordinator, and now you see
some of those turnover issues, even red zone turnover issues
start to rear their head. But you know, now you

(01:05:01):
have a healthy backfield behind him, and they got the chance.
They got opportunities here to get to the playoffs to
beat the teams in their division. What are your thoughts
on why Matt Ryan seemingly has regressed from last season.
Anytime you have a change in the play call, it
is differently if we took it to a video game.
We're playing Madden. If both of us played with the
New England Pages, you have a different style of play
than I have, just because we like different things. Sarkisian

(01:05:23):
was trying to do something very, very difficult. He was
trying to jump into cal Shanahan's seat and run the
offense like cal Shanahan. They see football differently. It took
him about halfway of the season to figure out, Okay,
here's what I like here the players that I can feature,
this is what I can call to get those guys going,
and this is how the offense best flows. With Matt Ryan,

(01:05:45):
he is kind of stuck in transition because as Sarka
is experimented with the offense, he is probably forced to
do some things that he doesn't like. Now we're seeing
this team play better because Matt Ryan and Sarka on
the same page. The ball is getting to the players
that it should go to, and they have an opportunity
to be really good. They need to be better to
run game, a little more committed to the run game,
which Havin Coleman and DeVante Freeman. If they can make

(01:06:07):
the running game the focal point, then it opens up
the rest of the field for everything in the past,
it helps back healthy from that concussion. Let's quickly this
Bucky Brooks in then FL network, he's gonna keep joining us.
Let's quickly get you to dan fire and get you
and update what's going on down some news about some
of the playoff teams. You're talking about Packers and coach
Mike McCarthy has confirming today Aaron Rodgers will play against

(01:06:29):
the Panthers. The procedure coming off firere that that happens
later in the week, but he's preparing himself for this
moment like every player. I mean that air is no difference.
There's a there's a process of procedure um you go
through rehab. You know from his perspective from he's always
prepared himself to get back. Rogers coming back from that
broken collar bones suffered earlier this season against the Minnesota Vikings,

(01:06:52):
Eagle side and Zach Er it's clear concussion protocol. Practicing
today after missing their Week four teen went over the Rams.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodall got a contract extension and apparently
will be his last. His NFL spokesperson Joe Lockhart says
Goodell will step aside after the four season that's where
his contract runs through. How Like times says the Lakers
of s LaVar Baal the tone downers rhetoric, including his

(01:07:13):
criticism of head coach Luke Walton. Pelicans forward Anthony Davis
a game time decision for their matchup with the Bucks
because of a growing injury. It's officially one NBA All
Star Weekend will take place in Indianapolis, while the Miami
Marlins of Delta all Star outfielder Marcel Ozuna to the
Saint Louis Cardinals. He hit thirty seven home runs last
season and knocked in one twenty four runs. Back to you, Doug,

card Enjoying more confident car buying experience. Doug gotlip Show
continues here on Fox sports radio UM Bucky Brooks continues
to join us from the NFL network. Let's get let's

(01:07:57):
get to the a f C. What happened the Patriots? Um?
The Miami Dolphins used the blueprint that other teams have used,
which is the best way to defend the New England Patriots.
You have to be able to rush with only a
four man rush. You have to be able to play
press coverage on the outside. You gotta knock their receivers
around to disrupt the timing, and you also have to

(01:08:17):
be willing to change in vary your pre snap looks.
Tom Brady is a quarterback that has seen everything that
you could possibly see in the league, and so if
you give him a static coverage where you play like
toy soldiers, he's going to break it down and he's
eventually been going to come up with a solution that
Mammy Dolphins did a great job of changing. They bluffed
and blissed. Sometimes they fake like they were blissing and came.

(01:08:37):
Sometimes they sat back in traditional zones. Made him very,
very uncomfortable. And also with all quarterbacks, if they get hit,
they begin to change. Tom Brady got hit a couple
of times very early in the game, it changes the
way that he plays. It's a common thing that we've
seen when the Denver Broncos and other teams that are
Giants that look that looked like against the Giants both
times in the Super Bowl. When they hit him, he

(01:09:00):
begins to change. And so I think the interesting thing
is now that the Millami Dolphins have put that blueprint
on tape, how many teams can copy it, how many
teams can execute it. That's not how the Steelers play though,
right UH. They've been trying to change. This year was
a year where they really tried to emphasize being a
little more man heavy in their coverage backage. Last year
they were a team that I think ranks second in

(01:09:21):
the amount of zone uh coverage that they played. This year,
they're a little more um balanced. They play some press coverage.
They have already Burns, who's a man to man defended.
If they had Joe Hayden, they really will be able
to go all out and press. But they're going to
try the big thing with the Patriots when it comes
to Pittsburgh because Pittsburgh has been such a zone heavy team.
When you watch the Patriots, they like to go empty

(01:09:41):
formation They want to have no backs in the backfield.
They want to put the running back outside of a receiver,
and they want to see what you're in. If he
looks across the line scrimmage and sees a lineback over
top of the running back, he knows his man coverage.
If he sees a cornerback over that running back, he
knows his zone, and then he's able to check and
get into things that can exploit those bridges. You have
to be able to match up with their players playing

(01:10:03):
in different spots, and if you can't, the New England
pages will continue to squeeze it over and over again.
How much has it change when you get drunk back? Uh,
it changes a lot because now you have to have
someone that can match up with Gronk. And even though
Gronk is no longer the player that he once was
in terms of the explosiveness and the athleticism, he is
so big and strong and physical that he overwhelmed smaller

(01:10:23):
defensive backs. He helps them. He's tom Brady's go to guy.
But right now what you're seeing is they missed Julian Edelman.
Julian Edelman was the guy that was kind of Tom
Brady's security blanket in critical situations when they played man coverage,
Edelman uncovered, whether it's on crossing routes, whether it's on
Jerk Ross, things where he could use his quickness to separate.
They can do that right now and their lineup. There's

(01:10:45):
only one guy that may scare you in terms of
a natural receiver, and that's Brandon Cooks. Xavian Howard did
a great job of locking him up and so much
like in basketball, once you put that stuff on tape,
you're going to continue to see it until you show
you can be okay. What is kat they saying came
Britt to uh like a two year deal, so with
him next year? Is Kenny Britte just got cut by
the Cleveland Browns and I know that Greg Ciano is

(01:11:08):
close to them and coach Um in college like no,
I swear by Kenny Brett. What is what does Kenny
britt do to that wide receiving corps? You know, whatever
maans to be seen. I think the big thing with
Kenny bree he gives him another receiver that has has
some success in the league. He's a big, physical receiver.
But in terms of running away from press coverage, I
don't know. I think the bigger challenge will be can
you understand what they're doing offensively? Right? That was the

(01:11:28):
problem with Oo Sinko was he didn't know what they
were supposed to do. He covered up He covered up
a wide receiver one time. Like you can't. You can't
make those mental mistakes and play for the Patriots. Yeah,
so we'll see if Kenny Britt can kind of fall
in line and do the things that he needs to do.
They needed another playmaker. They're trying to find playmakers. Bill
Belichick is one of the best self evaluators that you're

(01:11:49):
find in terms of understanding what his team needs to do,
how they need to play, and and and so they
tried to add another piece. And maybe they can find
a specific role to put Kenny Britt into help Tom Brady. Okay,
so the matchup with the Dealers, I felt like the chaisier.
Obviously it's a devastating blow for all of football, but
just for the Steelers. I feel like he's he's so
athletic and so important based upon how their defense is construction.

(01:12:12):
I felt like that was almost a a death blow
to their defense in terms of their Super Bowl hopes.
They did win against the Ravens, but they got thirty
eight points to the Ravens. To the Ravens, how how
much of that was carry over from the Bengals? How much?
And that was a physical game. Everybody's beat up. I mean,
Bengals got their ass kicked, but the Bears, right, Uh
so there's some carry over. But how much of it
is they don't have Shais here and that changed their defense.

(01:12:34):
I think it's a little bit of both. Obviously there
was some carrier because it was a horror hitting affair,
very physical. It takes you while to recover from those games.
I think the bigger thing may have been not only
losing Ryan Shazier physically, but emotionally. The told that they
went through wondering if their teammate was going to be
able to walk again, or what kind of trouble he
was in while he was in the hospital. I think

(01:12:54):
this week you get a better effort from Distillers because
now they're a little more at peace with Ryan She'sier situation.
They've had another few days to kind of work on
how to replace him on the inside. Yes, their replacement
linebackers have to step up and do to things, and
they won't be able to fully replace Ryan Z, but
I think you will see a better effort defensively. And
I think when you kind of counter servant, how are

(01:13:15):
the new your faces going to start to Pittsburgh Stillers
Because they're dynamic, they're explosive, They'll get ju Ju Smith
Schuster back. They have a lot of weapons that they
can throw at a Patriots secondary. They could have a
tough time matching up any Brooks from the NFL network.
Let's get crazy, Let's get absolutely nuts. Let's talk about
the Jacksonville Jaguars potentially being a super Bowl team right
like we've been drafting good for years. Got a bunch

(01:13:37):
of dudes on that side of the ball. Leonard four
Nette offensive line. They they they matched up to the
bully last week and pounded the The Sea Seahawks got
a little tight late in the game in terms of
the play calling. Allowed the Seahawks to stay in the game,
and Russell Wilson almost did what Russell Wilson does and
find a way to get victory out of the jaws
of defeat, but they didn't. Um And Blake Portle has

(01:13:57):
actually been pretty good here. Blake Boarders is an X
factor on their Super Bowl hopes. They can run the
ball against anybody. Loaded front, Leonard for Nett is a
grown man. Defensively, they're the best defense in the league.
They lead a league in sacks. They have to Junkyard
dogs at corner and Jalen Ramsey and a j bouya Uh.
They have alpha dogs in the Senator defense, Miles Jack

(01:14:20):
and Telvin Smith. They have everything that you want. The
X factor is Blake Borders, which Blake Borders is going
to show up If the one that has shown up
the last two weeks, the one that has turned over free,
that makes the plays that need to be made, drops
it into the receivers when they're wide open, they absolutely
can beat any team. But you're scared because we've seen
that other Blake Borders show up, and if he shows up,

(01:14:40):
it could be a one and done scenario. But in
terms of a team that is built to make a run,
they're built the right way. They played great defense, They
run the ball, they can control the cloud, chew up
the game. They can beat Pittsburgh. We saw them beat
Pittsburgh early and some would say in their locker room,
they absolutely believe they can beat the Patients because They
practice with those guys early in the preseason, so they

(01:15:01):
have a good feel for what the preach Patriots bringing.
They feel like they match up will um Chargers have
a chance to make the playoffs. They got a chance
to win the division. They got the Chiefs on the road.
I think the toughest road game of the year is
when they play the Raiders on at home on the
thirty one of the December. That's gonna be a Raiders
home game. Um. How legitimate are the Chargers as that
sneaky team in the a f C. I think that

(01:15:22):
the best team in ATFC West. It took them a
while to find how they needed to play. Anthony Lynn
wanted to come in and have them be a little
more balanced. He wanted to run the football. Philip Rivers
wanted to be a gunsling and throw it all over
the year. On offense, they figured out that, look, it's
best to let seventeen have his way, throw it all
over the yard, take care of it. Then defensively, Joey

(01:15:42):
Bolson Melvin Ingram can dominate the game. Because they can dominate,
they can get turn overs. That is why they win.

not anymore. With True Price from True Car, you can

UM you can. Every day we try and play for
you a portion of the show previously on Fox Sports
Radio or on Fox Sports TV that's played on Serious
x M Channel eighty three, Fox Sports Radios station. In
this case, we'll take you two first things first, which

(01:17:30):
is Nick Wright, Chris Carter, Genna Wolf six to nine
am East Coast time, three to six am West Coast time.
Nick said this about a Lonzo Ball's performance at Madison
Square Garden. Was I impressed with him? No, I have
to be fair about a Lonzo lonso did something last night.
Seventeen points, six assists, eight rebounds. It's the hundred and

(01:17:55):
eleventh time that line's happened in the NBA this year.
That line is few are points, rebounds and assists. Then
Vin Simmons is averaging this season. Okay, So like, let's
just level set on what he did. I am not
out on a Lonzo Ball. I have not lost hope
about Lonzo Ball. People want to bring up the Jason
Kidd comparison, Jason Kidd's rookie ear they have the exact

(01:18:17):
same points they average, They both average a combined fourteen
rebounds and assists. They both shot about thirty three from
the field. And look what Jason Kidd turned into. So
I am not out on what what Lonzo Ball can be,
but I'm going to be honest about what he is.
Last night, he was a guy who had a really
good third quarter and that's it. Uh yeah, Look, he

(01:18:40):
caught a heater in the third quarter. Um, I thought
that Luke Walton, I don't want to say did him
no favors, but baby did him a little bit of
a disservice by taking him out and getting Um getting
his backup, Jordan Clarkston into the game, and Clarkson a
better plus minus. Corsonabably bet in the first half, played
okay in the second half, and he should be should

(01:19:00):
also be pointed out that Um at times Alonzo struggled
with Frank nil Keena, whereas he did most of his
damage against Jared Jack and Jared Jack is at the
end of his career, right, But I think you can
also say you don't have to compare him to Ben.
He wasn't asked to compare to Ben Simmons. We weren't
asked about this. The stat line, like, Alonzo played pretty

(01:19:21):
well last night for a rookie. His first time played
in mass was Madison Square Garden. They lost in overtime,
um they had to fight back from a fourth quarter deficit,
and Alonso was in the game when they fought back.
He did so with Brandon Ingram playing terribly, one of
his worst games as a pro, and yet you know
they were right there. So I think you can say, like,

(01:19:42):
I don't think he's great, and I don't see the
Jason Kidd comparison, and I think Ben Simmons is better,
but I can help but be impressed by how well
he played last night, specifically in the third quarter. I
think that would be a more reasonable perspective than to
diminish it simply because the stats don't equal up to
what Ben Simmons has done. The music. Where are you
in on on gifts? What do you want, simple guy?

(01:20:08):
Of simple pleasures? They're Doug. I've been asking for the
traditional underwear and socks because my whole approach on that
is if you can get great socks and great underwear
as a gift. I don't wear underwear, but go ahead again,
we're not talking about you, Doug. Okay, you asked me
what I want. I happen to wear underwear. Uh No,

(01:20:29):
But so I'm like, if I can get a nice
pair of underwear and really nice comfy socks as a gift,
then that's awesome instead of going out and being like, man,
I'm gonna drop twenty five dollars on a pair of
socks for myself. Yeah, he's talking about Stance socks, to
which our show uh wants to be sponsored by. It's
just it's an Orange County product, Sanclemny product. By the way. Um,

(01:20:50):
and to those of you who you missed the Sam
Donald sank cole Many High School Zone interview, we're gonna
replay for you next hour on the Doug Gallup Show.
You was that good. I was that good. Let's just
be honest. Donald was a I was amazing. That was
an incredible interview. All right, that was never mind anyway. Um,

(01:21:11):
so you you want some Stance socks. You want Stance
makes underwear now too. You know that, right? I did
not know that. I didn't make uh, they make covers
um all right, So you're asking for what grandparents have
always gotten. You want to tie to, Yeah, exactly, I
got you more. I got you more underwear. Very easy,

(01:21:32):
very simple, and I get I kind of think buying
somebody underwear is a very personal thing. Like I don't
want anyone. I don't even like my wife buying me underwear.
I just don't. I mean, I'm not asking you to
buy me like your girlfriend. Like, I think that's kind
of a personal There's a certain fit you want and
a certain fit you don't want. Okay, we got what
you guys, what you guys desire. These are all ideas

(01:21:53):
for ladies that are listening right. John wants Star Wars
figurines or the dream is his wife's dressed up his
lay off from Return of the Jedal Dan buyer wants
a little mini football helmets, but specific ones that he
doesn't have for his collection. And Ryan music One's socks
and underwear which everybody thinks that they don't want. Only

(01:22:14):
I will say this, a new pair of socks, especially
if you live in the Midwest. It's cold, new pair
of socks, new pair of sweats, It's amazing feeling like, literally,
you feel like a million bucks, all right, maybe a
million rubles, maybe more rubles than dollars, rubles more than dollars.
Pace okay, paces, okay, paces faces. I will try and

(01:22:36):
solve more problems on the show up coming next, I
will solve the biggest problem the National Football League next
to the Doug Gotlieb Show, What Up? Doug Gotlip Show?
Fox Sports Radio excited about some new movies that are
set to drop, aren't you, Ramos? They got some? Now,

(01:22:57):
have you guys seen Wonder? You take your kid to
see Wonder? Ramo's No, my daughter just bought the book
the other day. She wanted to read it first. Good,
My my daughters have read the book. They did see that.
Let's say that the book was actually, um actually better
than the movie, as as it always is. But the
but the movie was really good. I mean, and Romo's
you're like me, you're a sentimental guy. There's a pretty
good chance you're going to cry watching the movie, at

(01:23:21):
least once. I don't mind crying in a movie theater, Doug, Good,
you're more of a man that way, absolutely more of
a man. Um So Star Wars drops tomorrow. Ramos and
I we still haven't set a date earlier. There's I
don't know if it's midnight East Coast or something. I
saw some seven o'clock showings potentially, um uh you know

(01:23:45):
tickets upcoming. Um. I will point out my daughter Harper
is pushing for a Saturday night date night just me
and her, So if there is a there's a chance
that we don't get a chance to watch it all together.
Although I could go watch Star Was another time next week,
doesn't mother me? Um anyway, So I love a good movie.

(01:24:05):
I thought Wonder was good. I thought Coco was really
really good. I do think that Coco it's got nineties
seven percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which is crazy crazy. Um.
I do think that it's getting a little bit too
much love because just because of this if the storyline
it's for kids, has murder, like you're murdering a father

(01:24:31):
of two. Anyway. I have not seen Darkest Hour, although
I've heard great things about Darkest Hour. That's like Gary
Oldman in that show. He plays Winston Churchill church Yi.
Uh that one. I that one. I'll probably Netflix or
or Amazon whenever that one comes out. Uh. There's another
one that's out called The calm, call me by your name. Um. Anyway,

(01:24:55):
I'm going to see pitts Perfect three on Monday. My
kids are My kids actually have seen pitch Perfect too.
I'm sure it's not age appropriate, but probably not. Yeah whatever, Um,
so pitch Perfect too. And there's look, there's there's um
that Jumanji movie looks terrible, looks terrible. Kevin Hart, Dwayne

(01:25:16):
and and the rock Jack Black that looks terrible. Pitch
Perfect three coming out. Um, there's some other ones, Molly's
Game coming out? Of course, there's some other ones. What's
the one with Tom Hanks that's gonna be in the
new year. I saw the post that one hurt him
and Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. All you

(01:25:36):
have to say was Meryl Hanks and Meryl Streep in
Tom Hanks could have said Martin Hanks. It was long
and long neck. Remember how long his neck was defensive back?
And then he was he was the administrator of punishment
from the Nation Football League up until this year. Is
Derrick Brookstown anyway? Um? And then I'm fired by this

(01:25:59):
father figures that looks funny. I think I like Owen Wilson,
Ed Helms crack me Up. That's when Terry Bradshaw is
in it. He did an appearance on Colin with it
tomorrow and anyway, more on that to come. Travolta hasn't
been anything a long time unless good when travoltaism. He's

(01:26:19):
in a new movie called Gotty. He's playing that John
John Gotti. But I think I just ready got pushed
back a little, which is never a good sign. Right, Yeah,
I'm I'm also interested. He's got some personal life stuff
that has come out occasionally whatever, And with all this
stuff coming out about dudes personal lives, like, is there
a John Travolta story that's gonna drop that that may

(01:26:41):
may send that one straight to video, right straight to VHS.
He was in a movie called Phenomenon. Do you remember Phenomenon?
I do remember Phenomenon? Yes, music is like, I don't
remember the movie Phenomenon. You don't, You've never seen it
doesn't sound familiar. Um Phenomenon was I think it was

(01:27:01):
based in Um. I think it was like supposed to
be up in the Central Valley of California. I think
that's where we're supposed to be. Uh. Anyway, Phenomenon is
more than just a phenomenon. It was a movie I'm
gonna say in the Don't Hold Me to This, I'm
thinking mid nineties and it was John Travolta, Curis Sedgwick,

(01:27:22):
and Forest Whittaker, and um, he was like an ordinary
guy and all of a sudden he started to have
extraordinary thoughts and uh, it turned out that he had
a brain tumor that ultimately he succumbed to. And yeah,
I can do spoiler alert on the twenty one year
old movie Everybody's Okay with this and they blow up

(01:27:44):
the death start to just definity. Yeah. Um, he played
George Malley, and George Malley's like your average every day dude,
and all of a sudden, like he's writing down notes.
He can just gonna do math problems. And what happened
was there parts of his parts of everybody's brain that
goes on used and this tumor activated parts of his
brain that he had never used before. Robert Duval was

(01:28:07):
the doctor in the movie. There's a scene in the
movie in which they're at the bar and one of
his friends, who's I think the bartender, criticizes him for, um,
trying to do everybody's job, trying to trying to make
everything better for everybody else, because he was pointing out

(01:28:27):
to the postal worker a smarter route that would take
half the amount of time. And then he's point out
to the bartender, um, how to rearrange the parking lot
so that you get more cars in and you would
never have a car accident. She said, all these thoughts
in his mind and he couldn't control them. I'm not
gonna say I'm that level of intelligence. I would say

(01:28:49):
just as not below right, just a slight below. And no,
I don't have a brain tumor that I know of,
but I do have. I like to solve problems. I do.
I I I actually enjoy that. I enjoy that more
than problems, solving problems of my own right, Like I'm
terrible with expense reports. I lost I thought I lost
my wallet again this morning. Then it was right there

(01:29:10):
in my car. The fact I left in my car
is not a good idea, not a good idea for anybody.
But I like to solve other people's problems. That's why
I like to ask. If you guys ever asked me,
like what should I get for a gift? Oh? I
got an idea, you know, give me the rundown. I
feel like the NFL has an issue that's a lot
like the NBA issue, and really Major League Baseball has

(01:29:32):
this issue as well. Major League Baseball's issue is a
lot like the NFL, and that's scheduling. Now Baseball has
kind of the doublet. They've got three parts, three things
working against them. The first is their season ends when
football begins, and it's impossible for them to try and
compete against football unless it's the Yankees of the Cubs

(01:29:52):
or the Red Sox and the Yankees or the Cubs
and the Red Sox in the World Series, like it's
gonna it's gonna be hard to ever really compete against football,
and that's in the prime of their sport. The second
part is a hundred six two games just too damn long.
We don't have attention spans. I'm not sure if you're aware.
And the other thing, and this is kind of an
interesting one, is in the middle of their season, during

(01:30:15):
during All Star Week, right nothing else is on. Like
the reason ESPN created the SPS was there's nothing else
on TV, the no sports being played, so they can
invite every athlete to come to their event because they
got nothing else to do, and they can put it
on TV and people will watch because there's nothing else
to watch. They have a week long there where they

(01:30:38):
have like a sequestered audience. Do they have as big
an audience as you'll have in the fall with people
on vacation. No, but there's nothing else on and baseball
gives guys time off. Like what that's like? That's like
accountants going like, hey, uh, we need you to work
April fourteen, no tax day, but like two weeks before
when everybody's calling in and freaking out on don't you

(01:30:59):
take once? Take it off? That? That's like the Cleveland Browns,
you know, their front office checking out at five o'clock
the day before the trade deadline. Like there's just times
in which you've gotta be working, and that's the time
which baseball has to solve it. Football's problem is, uh,
the games are too close together, and there's too many

(01:31:21):
of them, and too many guys are getting hurt. And
while my suggestion won't solve the ultimate problem that Doug Whaley,
the former general manager of the Buffalo Bills, point out,
which is football is bad for you, I do have ideas,
like John Travolta in phenomenon. I got ideas running through
my brain. Let me share them with you. Okay, first

(01:31:42):
idea is extend the season by a week. This's the
copy of the NBA. The NBA has done it this year.
They dramatically changed their schedule. Go and look like we
had Brad Stevens on last week, maybe the week before.
I think it's last week. Brad Stevens like, look, we
don't have a lot of time in practice. We have
a day off in between all of our games, not
playing black back to backs, and guess what the level

(01:32:04):
of play is better. Injuries are down. Guys sitting out
games due to rest is down. Because it's more reasonable,
more reasonable about a work reasonable. So the NFL can
do the same thing. And I was at first against
Jimmy rigging the Thursday night games. But you can do

(01:32:25):
it if you have an extra week. And you might say, well,
where do you get that extra week? Do you not
have the week before the super Bowl? Of course you
have the week off for the super Bowl extra week.
You just move the super Bowl back a week to
President's Day weekend. Nothing else is going on. Then, yeah,
it's college basketball. People don't really care about college basketball.
Until March. If your President's Day weekend, you play on

(01:32:46):
super Bowls, that's Super Bowl Sunday. You get the day
off on Monday. That's great for the fans, that's great
for drunk driving. Arrests are down. People will sleep it off,
they can sleep in. Productivity is better. It's a wasted
day the day after the Super Bowl. Now you don't
have it. But more than anything, an extra week gives
you the chance to reinstitute that double by that they

(01:33:08):
used to have. They had it for one year. It
is different now. The athletes are bigger, they are stronger,
the football field is the same size, and guys just
get beat up and get hurt. And we have discovered
we may have known it before, may have thought it before,
that football is really bad for you. And the only
thing worse than playing football is playing football with only

(01:33:28):
three days in between football games. I got, I got
answers to problems. I solved the Heisman Trophy problem yesterday.
I saw some of the football injury issues by giving
them an extra week off, pushing the Super Bowl back,
reinstituting the double by. And know, yeah, by the way,
when you play a Thursday night game, why not have
a bye the week before it if you can manage
it within reason, within the season. Right tomorrow, we'll work

(01:33:52):
on world hunger um. We'll also work on the recipitous
rate in UH state and local prisons. We continue to
try and tackle the common cold, something a problem that
has never been solved. We do here in the Dug
Galic show. Chris Brusar joins the show up coming next

(01:34:16):
uh Lebron had seventeen assists, and Sam Ammick wrote an
article about the possibility of him going to the Houston Rockets.
Is that a real possibility or is that just his

Doug Gottli Show, Fox Sports Radio. Hopefully you and yours
are having a happy Honika. You're gonna have a merry
Christmas and make next year a great eight great year
even better than this year. This year there was some

(01:36:03):
there's some things that kind of sucked about this year.
I'm not gonna lie to you, right dousands seventeen. But
we're still live. You're listening to the show. You're alive,
you're kicking. That's you know. It's Jim Herrick from the
u c L. A coach would always say, like, great
day to be alive when you consider the alternative, right
it is, let's welcome to Chris Bruce. Are a friend

he's got his own show with Mark Willard on weekends
here on Fox Sports Radio. You see him across the
landscape of Fox Sports shows. You'll see him with me
on First Things First on Christmas Day doing some TV.
Chris Brussar joins us um Chris, I I one of
the things I point out when I was on cow
Heard earlier today and I just talked about it, was

(01:36:44):
how much better I think the product is in the
NBA with the extra arrest, with the extended schedule that
they've it feels like they've done a really good job
of smartly scheduling. You've covered, you've been around the league,
cover the league for over a decade. Is that is
that just me over reacting to one game or is
that the general sense? No, that is the general sense.

(01:37:05):
And you know what else, I was actually talking to
a coach this morning and he said teams aren't practicing
like they used to. Not that they aren't getting in
the gym, but they aren't going as hard like Tom
Thibodeaux for instance. You know, his practices in Chicago were legendary,
three hours, three and a half hours just working guy's
tails off. They're not doing that in Minnesota. And a

(01:37:27):
lot of that is also this new science with you know,
the body, getting the body enough rest. And so I
think overall that when players get in games, whether it's
because there's no back to back and also because they
aren't practicing quite as hard, then I think that you
have a better product. They're fresher and they're putting forth

(01:37:47):
a better product on the court. Um. I was watching
last night and uh, look, I was encouraged by a Lonzo.
I really was. But I and then you know, as
dad's there, and then you hear stories that Magic's telling
his dad to kind of keep it down a little bit.
What are you hearing about the relationship between LaVar and
the Lakers. Well, they gotta be frustrated. I mean the

(01:38:10):
fact that they met with him, and the l A
Times reported that that meeting took place November twenty things. Okay,
so think about it. Six days after that, LaVar went
on Serious Accent Radio and that's when he talked about
Lines of not playing in the fourth quarters. That was
a problem. They need to get him out there. So
he clearly has not paid attention to what they're saying,

(01:38:34):
and that's frustrating them even more because the fact that
they sat down with them shows you we understand this
is a problem. And then once you do that, he
still comes out. I mean, think about the quote unquote
LaVar ball room, where you know, the media is not
supposed to see him at games and talk to him.
We act not even on ESPN. He's quoted the sv

(01:38:56):
is dot Com, He's quoted um in the l A
time like he's nothing has changed, and that is unquestionably
going to become a problem if, especially if Lines always
been playing well. Now, if Alonzo starts really playing well
and he looks like this star, a lot of people thought,
then you know, LaVar kind of be a funny side

(01:39:20):
kick or side joe. But if Alonzo struggling and the
team is not winning, then Lionzo is going to be
or LaVar is gonna be putting his opinion in there,
because LaVar feels like he's part of the Lakers brain trust.
I mean, look at the quotes. We have to come together,
we gotta do it together. We like he feels like

(01:39:43):
he's there with magic and Tolinka, you know, making decisions
and this is how you need to play. This is
how you need to coach my son. He said, I'm
gonna say what I want to say. I'm gonna plan
a feed. So this is not something that's gonna go
away anytime soon, or it really won't go away ever
as long as long as Lions over there. The only

(01:40:04):
hope is that he starts playing well enough that maybe
Dad's antics don't become a big issue. All right, Let's
let's get to their next opponent, which is the Cleveland Cavaliers.
What's the status of They're they're playing better than winning games,
Lebron's having an amazing season. How did they go from
kind of turmoil and turmoil to all of a sudden, Okay,
all is right in the world of Lebron and the Calves. Well,

(01:40:27):
it's interesting, I think I think there are few factors. One,
I think Lebron was tired of hearing about Kyrie and
how well he's doing without him, so because that that
whomever ever was a point about a month ago when
all the talk was about Kyrie, and obviously the Celtics
were winning huge and I think Lebron said, all right, enough,

(01:40:48):
let me show people what time it is. But beyond that,
I think the Calves that found out to some degree
that less can sometimes be more, and they don't have
as much talent on the court right now as they
have a month ago. You had Derek Rose, then you
had Tristan Terms and you had Imaan Shumfer. And now

(01:41:08):
with lesser talent, they're playing better because I believe the
roles are more defined. Kevin Love knows I'm the definitive
second option. It's not is it me? Is it d Rolls?
Is it d Wade? No, it's me Kevin Love, and
he's he's having one of the best stretches of his career.
Twenty one point ten rebounds or eleven rebounds a game,

(01:41:32):
over fifty percent, shooting forty percent from three. He you know, Doug,
He's never been an efficient score. He's always around that
forty five percent sometimes forty three percent range. He's really
around forty eight. Now. It's like I said, and this
stretches over fifty. So he's went well. The second unit,
the Wayne Wade knows it's my unit. I'm the point guard.

(01:41:55):
I'm gonna get my shots. I'm gonna be able to
create a rhythm where I feel good about my shot.
I'm also getting chanted bride, Kyle Corby's other guys involved,
so roles are more defined. That's why I think they're
playing better. In addition to some intense attention to defense.
But with the problem Cleveland could face now ants have problem.

(01:42:17):
But Tyler losing had to make some tough decisions. Yeah,
I mean some of these guys, mate, you who's gonna play?
I mean I think have obviously played. But what do
you do with something? What do you do with Thimson?
What do you do with the road? And he can't
be afraid to make the tough decisions, Christoper sorry joining
us in doug Atland show, Sam amit grown a piece

(01:42:37):
that that floating kind of the idea of, hey, let's
not say l A is the only other option other
than Cleveland. Why not the Houston Rockets And they're gonna
recruit Lebron James with their play more than with their talk.
Uh percentage chance that that that could become a reality
in your mind? Wow? Um, Look, I think Houston be

(01:43:00):
on the list. I think they'll get a conversation, if
not a little more. Um, I think Philly could be
there too. The question is with Lebron see them as
too young, but you get to stay in the East. Um,
I think us the possibility. Um, I really look talking
to guys close to this situation, they're just saying Lebron

(01:43:22):
doesn't know yet and he's wanted to play this season.
I mean, one thing that I think could potentially happen
is if okay See continues to struggle and they want
to move, they decide we need to move Paul George
so we can at least get something more. And because
he's gonna leave as a free agent, I think Cleveland's
a place you land these fives. And I was told

(01:43:43):
over the summer that George would have stayed there at
least two years, like he would have played this year
and then been willing to stay another year if le
Brown stayed. So it's not that you would maybe have
to rent him for a few months. You might have
him for more than that. You get Paul George, all
bets are off. I think you got a decent shot
and winning a championship. Um, so you know, I think

(01:44:06):
there's a lot less to left to be, you know,
to happen. Let's see what Isaiah Termas would like. But yeah,
Houston makes sense, um to be a team. They're certainly
on his list. I don't know why you go to
the Lakers at this point. Um, well, I don't think
he doesn't know the Lakers alone. I mean, I think
they recreated the heat out of nothing. They recreated that
the Cleveland Cavaliers that nothing, got to the finals both

(01:44:28):
of his first years there, and it granted the West
would be would be more difficult, but you also got
I mean, like, look he had Paul George, Like, yeah,
it's not a terrible group. Um, alright, so at what point,
what's the drop dead date? Like I don't know if
you remember this from college, there's a drop ad date
for every class right where you're like, all right, this one,

(01:44:50):
this one, I'm not I'm not getting above a D
in this class, so I gotta drop it. Right what
what when is that date with the Oklahoma City thunder
for me? And right now they're not even entertaining at
least publicly, they're not entertaining those thoughts. But for me,
it would be first week of January. If I don't

(01:45:11):
see any improvement, that would give me a month to
see what's out there and see what I can get.
For Paul George, UM, I think that's what it should
be because you know that will be close to forty games. Um.
And that's enough of a uh, you know, uh track
record to see whether or not you think they're gonna

(01:45:32):
be any good with those three um A George also,
and I'm not a body language expert, he doesn't look happy,
and you can say it's not a it's about he's
not winning. But you know this is the think about
the difference for him to play with Russell Westbrook. And
I'm not putting it on Westbrook. You know everybody wants
to blame rest roots. But I say, look, if they're

(01:45:54):
if you run that organization and you can only keep
one of those guys, which guys, which one are you
keeping Russell Westbrook? And so I don't blame it all
over him. I think Donovan, you know, needs to explore
some different things, different system of play, maybe mellow on
the bench. Um. So there's a lot of blame to

(01:46:16):
go around. But yeah, I think I'd say the first
week of January is when I start looking, you know,
and potentially moving Paul Georgia. Things don't improve. Great stuff
from Chris Bruce Sard. Of course, you can hear my
Fox Sports Radio on weekends with with with Mark Willard.
Of course check out his digital His digital show and

(01:46:39):
his podcast is outstanding. Make sure you downloaded. Chris Bruce Sark. Chris,
thanks so much for joining us, all right, pleasure is
absolutely mind. Sam Donald join us in a moment. First,
So let's uh welcome in Dan Buyer, Dan Well. The
NFL having their own winter meetings today. In the NFL
commission or, Roger Goodell addressed a comment made by spokesperson

(01:47:02):
Joe Lockhart. Lockhart said earlier today that Goodell believes this
is going to be his final contract with the league.
Recently got that extension through four and after that good
Dad Goodell would help aid a new commissioner taking over
his spot. Well In, speaking within the last thirty minutes
to reporters, Goodell said that he hasn't made any determinations

(01:47:22):
on if this will be his final contract. It's seven
years away, but still some contradicting information coming from the NFL.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Aaron Rodgers is planning
on playing Saturday against the Panthers, returning from a broken
collar bone. Jaguars running back Leonard for Nett didn't practice
today because of a quad injury. Well Bill's quarterback Tyrod
Taylor was back on the practice field today after sitting

(01:47:44):
out there when last Sunday over the Colts because of
a knee injury. No Aaron Gordon for the Magic tonight
as they faced the Clippers, still trying to return from
a concussion. Anthony Davis a game time decision for the
Pelicans against the Bucks because of a groin issue. Well
The l A Toom says the Lakers have asked LaVar
Ball to tone down his rhetoric and including his criticism
of head coach Luke Walton. The meeting was initiated by
Lakers president Magic Johnson and g M Rob Polinka. Marlins

(01:48:07):
have delts all star outfielder Marcelo Zuna to the St.
Louis Cardinals, while there are reports that the Giants have
j Bruce as their main target in the off season.
Also Ken Rosenthal saying the team trying to acquire Red's
outfielder Billy Hamilton's Doug great Stuff Dan USC quarterbacks Sam
Donald joining me here on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Uh. Sam,

(01:48:28):
when we've been asking people all day, do you have
something on your Christmas wish list? Beat the buck eyes,
I'd probably be it. That's a that's a good answer.
That's a good answer, Sam. No, really, seriously, do you
have a Christmas wish list? Like? Really, come on, mom? Dad?
Listening in sant clament a, Like, what do you get
the kid that has just about everything? Not anymore USC gear.

(01:48:49):
You've got plenty of swag. You get bull swag as well, right,
cotton bull stuff. So tell me what you want. I'm
not sure. Honestly, I haven't really put much thought into it. Uh,
I don't. I got I got mostly everything that I
need in life, to be honest with you, Doug, but
I honestly have no idea. Um I thought of you.
Um this past weekend. Um, this is this is not

(01:49:10):
creepy in any way. I know you're a big boogie
boarder more than surfer. Right, And so my eight year
old son, in addition to being a football fan of football,
want to be as you know, in southern California, the
weather was incredible this past week is eighty five degrees
and so he's like, Dad, let's go, hit, let's go,
let's go. We went to Blackie's in Newport Beach and
he's out there and he's out there boogie boarding with
the surfers, and he's like, yeah, they say I need

(01:49:32):
a fin, They say I need fins. So here's my question,
Santa is gonna get him fins? Is there a fin
or fins you would recommend? Um? Probably Churchill's. Um, I've
I've been rocking Churchills for a while now. I actually
don't I don't actually don't bodyboard too much. Actually went
to Santoh this last weekend. We had a little bit
of time off, and uh, some of my surfer buddies

(01:49:54):
were trying to, um teach me how to surf a
little bit better. So so I did that, but um no,
for for a while, I've been rocking Churchills, so um
you should get them knows for sure? Okay church Hills
and they you're you're up crushing waves in St. Clementi.
It's it's interesting. Maybe your superpowers as a quarterback come
from years of being down there close to Santa O.
For you know, nuclear power plant gives you superpowers. Um,

(01:50:17):
I don't know due to the we're gonna survive the
NFL drug testing, Like you have superhuman powers because of
the days uh bodyboarding and surfing close to Santa O. Frey, Yeah,
maybe you know, it's uh, it's definitely possible. How would
you characterize your season? Um, I think there were obviously
some ups and downs. Um. I I overall thought I

(01:50:37):
played pretty well and I'm really proud of the guys
honestly for the way that we've battled all year. Um,
you know, battling back from the loss against Flawzoo and
the laws against Nonre Dame. Uh, you know, two really
tough teams that we played, and I thought we bounced
back pretty well against those teams and then um, a
game that I'm really proud of is the Usah game.

(01:50:58):
Being down seven, I think off and being able to
come back. Um, and you know, a good fashion against
a great Utah team. It was a tough game. But yeah,
I think overall, Um, just personally, I think I played
pretty well. Um. Obviously, some turnovers in the first half
of the season that I wish I could have back,
But I thought I played pretty clean football in the

(01:51:18):
second half of the year and um kind of got
back to what I do best and just kind of
protecting the ball. And I thought I played pretty well
honestly in the last half of the season that you
see you see a game was awesome, you know, you
versus Rosen. Obviously he showed his talent. You showed yours.
Remember the play at the end of the first half
where you're trying to make a play and you're scrambling

(01:51:38):
around and you end up getting tackled I don't know,
three yard line or something. The clock ran out, and
you're like, uh, you know when you probably should have
found a way to just kind of get out of bounds.
What's that like when you're back there and you're you're
doing your you're doing your you know, donald thing, and
you have to worry about time and score and and
where the first down marker is. Yeah, I mean that's

(01:52:00):
that's something that that should have It should have been
an easy play for me to just go back there
and roll to my left and realize nothing was really
there and just throw the ball away knowing that we
don't have any time out and the clocks running low. Um,
maybe maybe get some points on the bar with a
field goal at the end. But just trying to do
too much in that situation. But um, yeah, sometimes, um,

(01:52:22):
even with some of the turnovers that happened in the
first half of the season, and you know, in general,
sometimes I can be trying to do too much and
that's something that I need to continue to work on.
But also you know, there's a fine line between um,
you know, trying to make a play and doing too much.
So um, it's something that I'm going to continue to

(01:52:43):
work on and grow. And yeah, and look, and you
can't be you can't play scared, right, you can't think
about every throw like you and and you have new
receiving corps for the most part this year as well,
so some of that isn't all on you, and I
know you take all of the blame. How do you
find that balance between Look, I still got to plays
order for us to win. On the other hand, I
can't turn the football over because that's the easiest way

(01:53:04):
to lose a game. How do you find that balance? Yeah,
I think I think it just kind of comes naturally.
I'm going to continue to play football and like you said,
not play scared. And I think the best way to
do that is to just, um always just continue to
play like like myself and to just continue to do that,
but at the same time be smart with the football

(01:53:24):
and that that's my number one priority as a quarterback
is to take care of the football. Um. But when
it plays there to be made, I'm gonna try to
make it. Sam Donald joining us in the Doug Gottlieb
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. There are many that
have been speculating about your future, whether it's at sc
or in the National Football League. How are you approaching

(01:53:45):
this Bowl game? Yeah, I'm just continuing to prepare for
a great Ohio State team, uh, top five team in
the country and um, you know, well deserving of that.
And we're continuing to prepare here, and that's that's my
me worry right now. I'm I'm not gonna worry about
the NFL stuff until um after the bowl game. I'm

(01:54:07):
going to talk to my family and talk to some
people about that. And I think that's just how I'm
gonna go about it right now. Just my first my
only focus really is beating the buck eyes, all right.
So I'm I'm cool with not not putting you on
the spot because it's an impossible position. But I help
us out with the like what do you need to hear?
Because I don't think there's anybody who's not going to

(01:54:29):
tell you you're a top five pick, right, So, like,
what is it that you want to know that you
want to hear in order to to make the decision?
But what what's it? What's the decision really based upon? Um?
I mean there's some stuff I need to look at.
I mean, obviously, uh, just the numbers, how the numbers
at up and um, all that kind of stuff, and

(01:54:49):
then how I can if I do decide to stay, um,
how I can get better and all that kind of stuff,
and what what the risk is in staying, what the
risk is in leaving? It's based. I'm just gonna make
a list of pros and cons, uh, whether it's staying
or whether it's leaving. So, UM, I think that's that's
how I'm gonna go about it. And um, but like

(01:55:10):
I said, I'm not gonna worry about it until after
the ball game. Yeah, you know it's interesting. Um, there's
gonna be some changes on your coaching staff. Uh, obviously
T Martin staying, but some other other changes in terms
of who's calling plays and who's with different positions on
the offensive side of the football. You you mentioned that
you've got to figure out, Hey, if I stay, what
do I have to improve on? Um, let's start with

(01:55:32):
the positive. What do you think you've improved on the most?
Because I do think there are people like, well, look,
you had more interceptions this year, like, well, hold on,
just because you had more interceptions does not mean you
actually didn't play better. What do you think the one
thing or one or two things you've actually done better
so far have been I think just controlling the offense.
And that's that's one of the things that I really
wanted to get better at, and I think I did

(01:55:54):
a good job of that this year. Um, Honestly, a
better job than I did last year. Um, I just
controlled the offense pretty well, UM, had a really good
understanding and then secondly, just had a really good understanding.
I think, Um, obviously I'm not um there yet with
understanding defenses and what kind of coverages they're throwing at me,
and um, you know, disguising blitz is and all that

(01:56:17):
kind of stuff. But I definitely think I did a
better job of that this year than I did last year,
and being able to slide protection towards where I might
be hot at and all that kind of stuff. So, UM,
I did a better job this year of that as well. UM.
You know, I think, UM, the numbers sometimes can be
a little misleading in terms of um all that a

(01:56:38):
quarterback does. And you know, we always talked about that
as quarterbacks, you've got to control the whole offense. UM.
And if there's you know, if there's a path play
up and you check to a run play and it
goes for a touchdown, you know, you're not necessarily going
to get a ton of credit for that. UM. But
you know, those are just kind of the things that
a quarterback has to do. And I think I did
a really good job of that this year. Um, and

(01:57:01):
as I you know said, I think I'm going to
continue to get better in those areas and continue to
watch film and um, you know, learn as I continue
to grow as a quarterback. You worked on your release
a bunch. You worked on kind of changing and making
your release a little bit more concise. In the off season,
some you know, you get that kind of game slippage
where you your default back, you know, you default back

(01:57:22):
to your your your normal kind of throwing motion. What's
that been like working through the new release to the
one you've you've thrown with for you know, fifteen years previously, right, Um,
it's definitely it's it's been kind of a learning curve there.
I mean, uh, in the off season I worked on it,
but like like you said, during the season and during
a game, you can't really worry about your throwing motion. Uh,

(01:57:44):
there's there's so many other things going on, um that
I can't worry about it even you know, during practice. Um,
I gotta worry about, um what's going on and all
that kind of stuff with the offense. So, um, it's
it's hard to work on things like that in the
during the season, But this offseason I'm going to continue
to work on it, and but yeah, it's it can

(01:58:05):
be hard in in the heat of the battle. I
guess you could say, all right, look, dude, they've got
a nasty defensive line. Uh Sam Donald joining us USC quarterback.
They have a nasty, nasty defensive line. And there are
some that would say, look, you're not playing for national champion.
I know you won the Rose Bowl last year and
this is the Cotton Bowl and it's a historic game.
You're gonna be a top five pick. Is there is
there any way in which you would not play this

(01:58:27):
game in order to protect yourself for the future. Um, no, No,
there's no way. I mean, it's it's such a big
bowl game, and uh, like you said, it's it's a huge,
such a rich tradition in in both programs. I think
just being able to I think, you know, coach Coach
Clay said it to us in the meeting, it's Ohio
States team, it's our team. So that's a pretty rich tradition.

(01:58:51):
And I'm just excited to be able to compete against,
you know, a great Ohio State team. Like you said,
it's it's gonna be a great challenge for us to
go up against that D line and that that whole defense. So, UM,
I'm really excited for the challenge, and UM, we're preparing
really well right now. But it's definitely gonna be Um,
it's definitely gonna be a challenge, but I think we're

(01:59:12):
ready for it, and I think we're preparing really well
for it right now. If it's anything like last year's
Rose Bowl. Can't wait to just watch the game and
watch you compete. In the meantime, do appreciate the heads
up on the fins to get a little dude, and
we'll we'll try and search for a product that because
you think you got everything, which is great, it's a
blessed life. I'm sure we can find you something, Sam,

Doug got Live show Fox Sports Radio. Every day of
this time, we like to run through as many topics
as we can to get you educicated and get you
on your way. There it is five. NFL the press, Alright, Dan,

(02:00:28):
buy what he got? I like the Dolphins to meet
the Patriots. No, that's uh little joke on old picks
that we've got. How about some new news in the NFL.
NFL spokesperson Joe Lockhart said earlier today that the recent
contract extension for Commissioner Roger Goodell would be his last,
but Goodell then told reporters a few hours later, no

(02:00:52):
determination has been made on is on his future and
if this actually would be his last contract, which expires
in twenty Look, they gave him like a five and
a half five year extension, right, something like that, almost
forty million dollars a year. What he's saying is, yeah,
probably overtired. But if you want to give me forty
million dollars a year more. I guess I can find
a way to show up for oh. Gooddell talked about

(02:01:15):
a couple of other issues at the winter meetings today
the NFL win their meetings, that is, including his relationship
with Jerry Jones. My relationship with Jerry has been great.
We don't always agree, and I'm not paid to degree
and he's not a paid degree with me. I think
that's again what the strength of our league is now.
Goodell did at this do I look like I take
it personally? Jerry? Do I look like I take it personally? No.

(02:01:39):
As the answer that question and listen. As I've said before,
I think people disagreeing, people having the ability to do
that within the context of our structure is something that
makes us stronger. I tend to agree with that. Actually,
Like really good leadership is like, hey man, what the
bad part is when it gets out? You can disagree
inside a room, when it becomes public, that when it's

(02:02:00):
bad for business. Giants co owner John Marras says that
he wants Eli Manning back at quarterback in but yes,
there's always a butt. Also added it to topic they
will discuss when they hire a new GM and head coach.
Of course. I mean everybody's scared of Eli Manning, Like
Eli man is the most powerful guy. And you're like, whoa,
we don't want to look you. Yeah, sure, I'll be back.

(02:02:22):
You know, whatever the new GM comes in, it's like,
you know, I want to trade him, Like, okay, cool.
I don't know if you saw this today, Doug, but
the Washington Redskins released a statement in response to fake
news articles and press releases that the team was changing
its name from Redskins to the Red Hawks. The phony
articles were made by Native American activists, and the Redskins

(02:02:42):
statement said, quote the name of the team is the
Washington Redskins and will remain that for the future. End quote. Yeah,
fake news, right, it's literally fake news. What's amazing about
what's amazing about fake news is like all the things
the president has done, he's very close, I think to
a tax reform. He has coined the phrase fake news.

(02:03:03):
He should he should have trademarked it, should have trademarked it.
How about this? Bob Costas headed to Cooper's town as
the long time broadcaster will be in Trine into Baseball's
Hall of Fame. He was named the winner of the
Fort Ce Frick Award, Baseball Broadcasting's highest honor. Bob Costas
in the Hall. I know he did a call his
games for MLB Network, you know, but when was the

(02:03:26):
last time he called a big game? He's he's great,
but when was the last time? Like right, like shouldn't
shouldn't Joe Buck being there World Series? Yeah, but Bob's
done it for a long time, and there's always back baseball. Finally,
Dug bon Jovi will be in Trine into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame, as they are a member
of the Class of the Press. When I played in Russia,

(02:03:49):
the president of our team had this bon Jovi infatuation.
True story, okay, and so before every game that would
be like a like a warm up video, and we
had like one and it would be a bong Jovieshow
let it rock? You can hear that Sam Donald interview
