Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. It's de ja vu all
over again in so many ways, Rob Parker. It was
a year ago on this day that we found out
Kevin Durant was going to be leaving the Oklahoma City
Thunder for the Golden State Warriors. And on this fourth
of July, in this Independence Day, we now think, but
(00:24):
aren't sure, that Gordon Hayward is on his way to
the Boston Celtics. News breaking within the last hour, a
report by ESPN said that Gordon Hayward had made up
his mind to play for the Boston Celtics. There was
nothing official from the Celtics, nothing official from Hayward, nothing
official from the Miami Heats or the Utah Jazz, Hayward's
former team on their pursuit of Gordon Hayward. And now
(00:47):
within that last hour we have also heard word that
maybe this decision isn't as official as some may want
it to be. In fact, his agent telling reporters that
the final to see Asian, even happening today, may not occur.
And we thought that we would hear a decision today
after he met with the Utah Jazz yesterday. That was
(01:07):
the word out of Hayward's camp, and when word of
the Boston Celtics signing or possible signing of Hayward came down,
we all thought, that is it. That is it. But
maybe like the DeAndre Jordan when we talked about deja
voux all over again, it's not so fast because his
agent is pumping the brakes on a decision for Gordon Eyward.
But there is a report saying he will sign with
the Boston Celtics. Dan, I think it's a done deal.
(01:29):
I think this It sounds or smells like Gordon just
did not let Utah know yet. And and that's what
it's about, Like he agreed with the Celtics. You know
what I mean, you haven't announced anything yet, but I
would be shocked if it's not the Celtics. When it
gets out like that and a couple of reports are
out there, it just sounds like because Utah, they're basically saying, well,
(01:52):
we haven't heard from him, right, that's there. They didn't
say no he's coming back or no he's not coming back.
For them to say we haven't heard from him, I
think tells you all you need to know is that
he hasn't let them know and that's why we have
to say it's not official yet, but but I I
think that's where he's gonna wind up in Boston, and uh,
(02:14):
there you go. Danny Ainge gets his man. Adam Himmel's
back of the Boston Globe is the one that spoke
with Gordon Hayward's agent, as did Adrian war Zanowski now
of ESPN. Woad wasn't the one who broke it. It
was Chris Haynes said yes, shocking. Chris Haynes is the
one who said that Gordon Hayward would be going to
(02:35):
Boston first. Now Woad also reports, and really with this
this whole race and breaking news in the NBA free agency,
we all just assumed that Woad is going to have
the the official word. What he says, or what his
sources are telling him is that the Utah Jazz are
still waiting to be told of his intentions, which is
what lends you to think that that's the whole hold
(02:56):
up in the situation. It's it's just that he didn't
tell him yet, and that in until they hear from
him officially, they're not going to concede that he's not coming.
And I'm sure Gordon probably feels a little like I
hate that the news got out before I made that
phone call. If you remember when Lebron with the decision,
Remember he went on TV and didn't even call Dan Gilbert,
(03:17):
like he didn't know. Turn the TV on and he's
saying he's taking his talents to South Beach and I
and I am so glad you brought that up because
I have been advocating and John Ramos, who hears me
at times here on Fox Sports. Right at least I'm
hoping John gives me the thumbs up. I've said every
free agent decision in the NBA should be like the
decision that was too much. Listen, I'll tell you what.
(03:39):
If Gordon Hayward had the decision right now, we wouldn't
be sitting here wondering if he's going to the Boston
Celtics or not. We would actually know because we would
have heard from Gordon Hayward's mouth. It is great TV.
Pilon Lebron all you want, And how he ripped the
hearts out of Cleveland, that was great drama. Okay, we
are not gonna have that. You think people in Utah
are gonna be have their hearts ripped out there. I mean,
(04:02):
they don't want to lose him, granted, but do they
think they were gonna win anything in Utah or well,
I'm sure that they would much rather have him than
not him. I don't think any people crying in Utah
right now. I don't know if there come to tears,
but I can guarantee you this. They aren't happy because
a key piece of a team that lifted them to
the Western Conference semifinals this year is no longer there.
(04:26):
And and I hate to bring I think they're disappointed
in him that he's leaving. Do you know what I mean?
But I'm not to me it's not on part with
like when Lebron left Cleveland. I mean, but it would
be it would be more clear, it would be better,
it would be more drama than what we're dealing with now.
We're not even sure what's going to happen. But this
is you know, this is like a roll back the Celtics,
(04:49):
Gordon Hayward. This is like, uh, your Dad's Celtics to me,
the best white player out there in the league, and
he winds up in Boston. They've really wanted him. And
this is what the NBA, This is what the Celtics
used to be like, you know what I mean, And
I know they have a lot of players black players,
A lot of black players have played in Boston. The
(05:10):
Big Three won the championship for him, right, not too
long ago. Uh, but this is this is like the
Celtics or the Celtics back now. Is this is interesting
because from what I'm hearing you say is that of
the three teams, Gordon Hayward meant the most to Boston. Absolutely,
I truly believed that in that what they're building and
(05:33):
that they were able to get a star and they
just have because once you've had Larry Bird, right, and
and think about this, Dan, just the white players that
have played in the NBA in the last years, where's
the white guy from the United States who's been Larry Bird?
Like zero from the United States. It's unbelievable. Where we
(05:59):
are winning a NBA that I started covering in seven.
I could go through the list of Tom Chambers and
all these other guys who were white star players in
the NBA, and it did just disappeared. They vanished. The
white players in the NBA. Good, they're all European or
from another country. Sure, give me the best white player
(06:21):
in the league just off the top of your head,
probably be Gordon Hayward. Yeah, and number two, number two. See,
this is what I'm saying, Like you, okay, but twenty
years ago, you wouldn't have had to hesitate. Well, where
would you go? Bird Michale? Is that like if you're
(06:41):
talking about in the eighties, thirty years ago, there's damn Marley.
I'm just saying this is that there's a slew of players. Uh,
Mark Price with Cleveland, Okay, Mark Price wouldn't roll off
your Mark Price, John Stockton, Okay, Chris Mallin, I'm just
saying I could throw all names to you without hesitating.
(07:01):
But but also the fact is that international players coming
to the States weren't um. But where's the where's the
great white players from this country? That's that's what I'm
Where are they not in the NBA? Are shocking to me?
The it's now white players make up ten of the NBA.
(07:23):
Let's not forget that at one time the NBA was white.
So now it's down to ten percent. We're always talking
about black players in Major League Baseball down to seven
or eight percent. Here we are the NBA ten percent white.
Crazy to me? With all the kids who play basketball,
all the white kids who play college basketball, right yeah,
(07:44):
I I mean, I just if you're if you're going
on on a on a on a path of where
of all the white players gone, then that's different to
what does this mean for the Boston Celtics. No, I'm
just saying this. This goes with the Celtics. This is
not only do they get the player that they wanted,
Don't get me wrong, they love that, but they also
(08:04):
get a white player. That was the celticsoul kind of
always had the best white players. They just did well.
I think we've seen in in the the conversations and
even most recently, whether it was the documentary HBO did
years back on the Lakers Celtics, the most recent thirty
for thirty in the three part which I hadn't seen
(08:26):
the entire version of that I saw the HBO, but
there was you know, there was the time of of
Magic Johnson and he's told this story many times and
when he was a member of the Lakers are going
to Boston and and seeing some black guys that were
from Boston that we're cheering for him and and cheering
for the Lakers because they weren't Boston fast. There were
some shocking some shocking video I remember from the HBO
(08:47):
documentary of Just the of at that time. And this
is thirty plus years ago. So I mean I think
that that things have changed. Um, I know things have changed,
but the fact is is that, yes, they were looking
for the next great white player. Not so what I think,
but I think in enfranchise wise, of the Miami Heat
in Utah Jazz Celtics were better than both of those.
(09:10):
They had more success this past year, at least in
there in where they stood no doubt about it. When
when when Bird and Magic came into the league, can
you not tell me that was not a perfect scenario.
A showman went to l A and a great white
player went to Boston. If you flipped that is it
the same? Do you know what I mean? Like like
you couldn't have asked for anything better than those two
(09:30):
players to come in. They play in the National Championship
Game college basketball. Right, Magic beats Bird in that they
get drafted and go to the exact places that they
need to go. It's saved the NBA, those two gods. Yeah,
and and Bird drafted and sixth overall, which is even
crazy when you think of then he ended up playing
that next year at Indiana State. But um, yeah, to
(09:52):
have to have West Coast, East Coast, they have showtime,
to have Boston, and the Celtics had the Lakers number
leading up to that like Boston and really dominated that
series between the two franchises. So then all of a
sudden the Lakers ended up winning and that change things.
But now we here we are with where we think
Gordon Hayward is a member of the Boston Celtics in
the Utah Jazz in a Western conference that now is
(10:13):
even more competitive, loses spots in the West. The Miami Heat,
who we know that the Eastern conferences dropped off with
the the subtractions of Jimmy Butler and Paul George, I
mean dropped off into the ocean. It's a waste land now, sure,
But if you're if you're just taking if you're looking
at what the Miami Heat, the Miami Heat with with
the departures of George from Indiana and Jimmy Butler from
(10:35):
Chicago and the moves that they made, the Miami Heat
just missed out on the playoffs last year, a natural
progression and I think the belief in what Eric Spolster
and pat Riley would do, would put the Heat in
the playoffs. Next year you had Gordon Hayward. Now you're
in the top four of the Eastern Conference, and I
know there's some some decisions about what Kyle Lowry could do,
but you could argue that the Heat are in the
(10:56):
top four, the Celtics maybe don't move the Celtics, maybe
just sit at two. There were number one, There were
number number one. Forget that, right, But when you're looking
at how then how the playoffs played out Cavaliers with
with a better team, I'm not sure how much the
gap closes. I know it does close, and I know
that the Celtics are more competitive going up against the
(11:17):
Cleveland Cavaliers, but I think most of us would still
take the Cavaliers in that series. In a seven game series.
It's hard to bet against Lebron. It just is. Now.
Maybe he doesn't do as well in the finals. But
here we go, and I say, for all the movement
and all the uh headline grabbing stories we've had for
NBA free agency, Dan, had things really changed? Are you
(11:40):
are you ready to say that that Golden State and
Cleveland won't be a part of the NBA Finals again
next year. There I'm on history side, and I think
that things could change. I'm just not ready to put
Boston in that NBA Finals spot. I'm not ready to
do that. I don't you think Golden State won't make it,
that there's a chance to know. I didn't say that.
I just think that at something to say that both
(12:02):
teams run, and I think the Golden State Warriors have
more of an opportunity to do so. And I know
you're trying to find out what team is going to
challenge Cleveland. A lot can happen in those two games.
Remember the Calves were five team in the second half
of the season. Maybe Washington, maybe the Celtics do maybe
the Bucks matchup. You know, the the heat gave Heck,
the heat gave the Calves fits in the regular season.
(12:24):
They were lucky that didn't play him in the playoffs
and you never knew what could have happened. And then
in the postseason the cavil has went twelve and one.
But for all the five d and all the when
you get into a best of seven series, that's the problem. Dan.
One game, I'm with you could Cleveland lose. Yes, four
to seven. Beating Lebron can't happen. I'm just gonna side
(12:44):
on the side of history. He's Rob Parker, I'm Dan Buyer.
Gordon Hayward maybe maybe going to the Boston Celtics. Some
reports say that he is on his way to Boston.
There is more now, this from the Utah Jazz, Steve Sparks,
the president of the Jazz, saying you to tweets, we
trust Gordon and his agent that no decision has been made.
Good communication all day and a great relationship. But there
(13:07):
is a report that Gordon Hayward is going to play
for the Boston Celtics. Again, nothing confirmed from Hayward, nothing
confirmed from the Celtics, and obviously you heard there from
the Utah Jazz. We are in for Doug Gottlieb here
on Fox Sports Radio. Get Rob on Twitter at Rob
Parker FS one. You can get me at Dan Buyer
on Fox. How special and how big of a week
will next week be for Major League Baseball? We ask
(13:29):
an insider next here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Rob Parker.
I'm Dan Buyer here on Fox Sports Radio. Hit us
up on Twitter. I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox, Rob,
where can they get you at? Rob Parker f s
one again still waiting on the official word um report
saying Gordon Hayward is going to the Boston Celtics, but
there have been conflicting reports saying that a decision has
(13:50):
been made. The Utah Jazz presidents Steve's uh Steve Starks
saying that we trust Gordon and his agent that no
decision has been made. Good communication all day and a
great relationship just means you're gonna get holes pretty soon.
I had to break Hayward's agent even telling reporters that
the decision that we thought was coming today may not
come today after all. But the Gordon Hayward saga continues.
(14:13):
Maybe it'll go into next week, but if it does,
it won't overshadow what I think could be a huge,
huge week. Four. Major League Baseball joining us now a
good friend of the show in the network. He's a
Fox Sports and Major League Baseball Network insider. John MORROSSI
joining us, Hey John, Happy fourth, Dan, Rob, Happy for
the July to both of you as well. What's happening, Bud?
Where are you today? I'm in beautiful Michigan, which, as
(14:37):
you know, Rob, this time of year. I will be
biased for a moment and say there's no better place
in the US to be on for the July than
the beautiful state of Michigan with our lakes around us.
So I spent the time up there over the weekend.
So I am, I am here, and I assume you
are both in the beautiful city of Los Angeles right now. Absolutely,
And you're totally right about ann Arbor and Michigan. Dos
time of you great? I was just in Detroit last weekend.
(14:58):
I'll really pure Michigan, you know, pure Michigan, that's right.
I may be making a trip to the upre Go
now then I love it, because, that, of course is
my native land. I was born in Marquette, but I
did not live there long enough to acquire the accent.
And if I did, we would be requiring an interpreter
for you to appear in your radio program today. My
Wisconsin roots, I may have more of one than than Morosia.
(15:22):
Right here. Here's here's the question. How long does justin
Verlander state in the state of Michigan. Well, then it's
a great question, one that I think is being discussed
a lot here in Michigan. Really around the baseball world.
There was a good scouting contingent there over the weekend
in America to watch Justin pitch there um, and of
course he did not pitch very well on Sunday, I
did not get out of the fourth inning, no strikeout,
(15:45):
was in front of a Cub's scout who was there,
according to my understanding of my sources, to look at
both Verlander and alex Avila. So I think the Tigers
guy has answered today. I believe with the worst record
in the American League, so they are certainly, I believe
at this point in time going to be sellers. And
it's just a question of if they can find a
way to make the mathematics work for Verlandard because of
(16:08):
course he is due twenty eight million dollars in each
of the next two seasons. Unbelievable. But let's talk about
the Baseball All Star Game in Miami. I will be there,
I know you will be. I'm looking forward to it.
But we've got great news yesterday that Aaron Judge and
and uh Cody Bellinger as well are going to participate
(16:30):
in the home run Derby. How How big of a
home run is this? Four Major League Baseball he's two
young stars. Well, it's huge, Robbin. And we talked about
this a couple of weeks ago about how important to
this for baseball to get these uh, really primetime young
players out there in front of the entire country and
really the world as well during All Star weeks because
this becomes, as you guys both know, uh they doing
(16:51):
the radio show, this is really the week of the
year when baseball has a near monopoly on the whole
sports conversation. Uh. Training camps of course have I started yet? Uh?
NBA finals are over, and NHL Cinica plaffs were over.
Free agency guess the according to Mr Hayward, will see
but that's usually over. Uh. And so now baseball on
really dominate that landscape for a period of time. And
(17:13):
to me as a fan, Rob, I want to see
and Judge and Bellinger. Of course, the reigning champ, John
Carlos standard I saw the cool from him over the weekend,
Rob that he feels as though Judge is the brother
he has never met, which is a great a great
way for John Carlo. There their comparative course to each
other so much. They both look like the best NFL
(17:35):
players right now in MLB and I cannot wait to
see them take their slings at that beautiful ballpark there.
In Home Run Derby. I think it's must cy TV.
I think if your home and uh, the Home Run
Derby's on and you hear what's going on. I know
a lot of people have heard about Aaron Judge, but
this is your time to really focus in and watch
him and Bellinger of course in Los Angeles has been great.
(17:56):
John ROSSI joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Rob Parker, I'm Dan Buyer. We talked yesterday, Robin I
did about baseball, and there's always the conversation of what's
next with major League Baseball? And I think what's next
is now what we are seeing, and that is Cordy Bellinger,
that is Aaron Judge, that is these young stars, Corey Seeger,
guys coming up taking over major League baseball. Was this
(18:19):
expected John of of this crew or did they think
that Bryce Harper and Mike Trout were the guys and
the Clayton Kershaws that we're going to carry baseball, Because
that's what I was expecting. That's who I thought was
gonna carry baseball over from the Jeter the Poppy era.
Did major League Baseball expect these young guys to do
the heavy lifting. Perhaps not to this extent, Damn, but
(18:41):
but I think it really is a great topic for
baseball and baseball fans to consider here because it does
not have to be, in my estimation, any one particular person.
It can be a group. And I think that's what
we have right now. And that's a great thing that
no matter what part of the country you're in or
what part of the world you're in, that you can
find someone that you relate to and that that you
(19:03):
really take an interest in. Whether it's Judge and Bellinger
this year. Uh, certainly. Trout obviously is injured right now,
but he's not going away anytime soon. Nora's Harper. Machado
a bit of a tough first half of the year,
but I do think he'll eventually get things figured out.
His tut's too talented for me not to that not
not to happen for Manny Machado. He's that good. So
(19:23):
I think that Dan, to answer your question to me,
it is a collective group. It's not just one guy.
I think that it's really hard for the number of
things to go right that went right for Jeter to
go right really for anybody else, and then maybe Judges
that guy. But Jeter was on the Yankees, which is
the point his favorite to begin with, a phenomenally charismatic
person who understood how to how to be a superstar
(19:46):
with every fiber of his being, just the way that
he conducted himself and represented the sport with such class
for so many years. And also guys he won every
single year. He was in the playoffs every single year.
So if you were a kid in Michigan or California, Wisconsin,
or Florida, you knew who he was intuitively right away.
And I think that that that's a difficult thing to replicate.
(20:07):
So maybe Judge can do it. But aside from Judge
and maybe Bellinger, Mike Trial, as we've talked about, he's
been around now for this is his fifth full season,
I believe, maybe sixth um and he has played in
one playoff series and he went oh and three and
and I think until the player comes around who was
in the playoffs every single year and really has that
(20:27):
charisma that approaches what Jeter had, I think it's hard
for to be any one guy. I think it has
to be collective group in baseball. Dan is lucky as
they have what I believe is that group right now, John,
A lot of people automatically were penciling in, I should say,
petting in the Chicago Cubs that won the World Series.
You had a young team and everybody looked and said,
(20:48):
it's a juggernaut. They're gonna win a couple of World
Series in a row. And I pumped the brakes. I
try to tell people, it's so hard to repeat in baseball,
and we already talked about it before. Uh in National League.
The last team to repeat seventy seventy six reds in
baseball period the Yankees. So that's almost twenty years ago.
(21:10):
And now here are the Cubs, I know there, sitting
there in second place. And it's just not that easy,
is it. It's not, Robin. I'm glad you brought this
up because I was asked yesterday by someone what my
biggest surprise of the entire baseball season has been to
this point in time, and I said, no question about it.
(21:32):
It was the fact that here we are, it's almost
the All Star break, rob and the Milwaukee Brewers are
leading the nationale League Central from the Great State of Wisconsin,
Park Dan, that is a place to be right now
major League Baseball. They are forty five and forty And
if you had told me in April, listen, the Cubs
(21:53):
won't be in first place at the All Star break,
I would have said, Okay, well, maybe the Cardinals had
a great first half, maybe the Pirate to a great
first half. But no one, and I would I would
be very boldest to say, not even the front office
of the Milwaukee Brewers. Dan and I thought that was
a possibility for the Milwaukee Brewers. But now they're there,
(22:14):
and I think this is gonna be one of the
fascinating teams to watch guys over the coming weeks until
the July thirty first nonwaiver trade deadline. Because the Brewers,
they didn't think they were going to be subtracting from
their minor league system to make bold trades of the
deadline and give themselves a chance. They thought they were
gonna be flipping their veterans and adding to that young
group of prospects. However, Dan and Rob, when you have
(22:36):
a chance, you've got to take it, and we saw
that with it with the Astros two years ago. Uh,
they thought they were gonna be able to maybe add
a reliever at the deadline. It didn't happen. And guess what,
they went five games with the with the eventual world
champion Royals, and if they had gotten that reliever at
the deadline, they would have won that series. And so
to me, we know how baseball works. The injuries are
(22:58):
there every single year, the pitch injuries. Your rotation just
asked the New York Mets. How fickle the health can be.
So when you have a chance to win, guys, you
better take it. You better go for And I really
hope the Milwaukee Brewers do that because phenomenal fan base.
And I just say that because I'm talking to Dan
right now, But the Brewers have a great fan base
that really stays with him when the team is not
playing so great, they have to see the opportunity right
(23:21):
now in front of them. I'm gonna leave John with this, Rob,
I got a story for you, guys. I first covered
the Brewers fourteen fifteen years ago. I was working at
a radio station in Madison. I was doing it part
time on the weekends, and I'd have to go into
the locker room gather sound after each game. Okay, it
wasn't until I realized that the Brewers had lost thirteen
(23:42):
straight games that I attended, that I realized when they
won a game they put music on in the locker room.
Because my audio was always clear standing in front of
Ben sheets wondering why he got no run support whatsoever.
It was all of a sudden they wanted music was
on and my audio was off, and I'm like, what's
going on here? And I realized, yeah, they just wouldn't win.
It was. It was an unbelievable streak. Mike de Jon
(24:04):
was there blowing leads, not all the time, but but
there was just a lot of dysfunction there. And I'm like, oh, okay,
when they win, music is actually on in the clubhouse.
I love I love that story. Dan and then and
certainly Rob, Rob more so than me. Rob covered many
of those games at Comerica Park a couple of decades
ago as well, Bobby Higgins and what you know, and
(24:25):
I've talked to Higgy all those guys. I go back
to UH cecil Fielder at UH Tiger Stadium and talking
to those guys well, and that's and that's to me. Rob,
I'm glad you met your Tiger Stadium. Actually, my very
first game. Ever, as a baseball fan was a Brewers
Tigers game at Tiger stadiums. How about that? And I
do when I walk into Fenway Park walking to Wrigley,
(24:47):
I do have that nostalgia, Robber. I wonder, you know,
I wonder if we could have found a way in
Detroit to keep the old ball park around and have
that be the Tigers on if they had renovated the
way they did with with Fenway at such a unique place.
But I've got to tell you and then put on
the Chamber of Commerce. Pitcher and Robbie were just there
over the weekend as well. It is amazing to see
how great downtown Detroit looks right now. And really, as
(25:08):
you know, Rob, sports are very much at the center
of that talking about on our country's birthday. Here why
we're talking sports, it's because in a city like Detroit,
we've got now the only city in America's you know,
Rob with all four major teams in one downtown core.
What that has done to revitalize Detroit is breathtaking. So
that if anybody ever asks us why we're talking about
sports on the fourth of July, it's because it's so
(25:30):
important to our country and our culture and we should
celebrate that every single day, no doubt about. It's a
part of our fabric. It's it's who we are in
this country. There's no doubt about. John Morossi half fourth
and uh yeah, let's do it again. We appreciate the
time and and enjoy the rest of the day in
ann Arbor. Sounds great, guys, A pleasure to be with
you and all the best. Everybody's silly travels out there
and everybody, and again, happy fourth to both of you.
(25:52):
All right, take it easy, job Box Sports in Center
and MLB Networking Center as well. Get John on Twitter
at John Morossi. He's Rob Parker. I'm Dan Fire. Hit
us up on Twitter. Get Robert Dan at Rob Barker
FS one. I'm at Dan Buyerron Fox and coming up next,
one of the all time greats in the NFL may
have been cheating. And it's not Tom Braids, It's not
(26:13):
it's not tell you who next. He's Rob Barker. I'm
Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Radio. So much coming
out on the Gordon Hayward and I'm using air quotes
now decision because it's not officially a decision. There are
reports and he chose the Celtics. But more and more
is starting to come out. This is what happens rob
when the new league year doesn't start for another two days.
(26:35):
These deals can't become official until then. So you've got
all these verbal confirmations. And now there's a report from
the Salt Lake Tribune Tony Jones, who covers the Jazz
Tony Jones, Are you kidding me? We should call him up?
I know it says that Gordon has changed his mind
four times in the last four days. I'm sure after
he visited Miami it was like, oh, I'm going to Miami.
(26:57):
Let he visited Boston and said I'm going to Boston,
and yesterday going to the Utah Jazz. And now who
knows what's happening. But there was a report if you're
just tuning in, if you may have missed it, that
Gordon Hayward was going to pick the Boston Celtics. That
from ESPN was also reported by a few other outlets.
ESPN was the first to have it. But now there's
word coming out that this decision may not be as concrete.
(27:17):
Hayward has not confirmed it. The Celtics have not confirmed
that the Jazz have not confirmed it, the Jazz saying
that they are still having communication with a word. We
will continue that topic and more here on Fox Sports
Radio and give you the latest as it happens. But
when it comes to cheating in the NFL, many people
want to connect Tom Brady's name, and rightfully so, Okay,
deflate gate a big, a big issue for so many
(27:40):
years in the NFL and spy Gay, but that wasn't
necessarily just Tom. That was more of a Patriots umbrella. Yeah,
But the only problem is who did it help the most?
If you know the defensive signals, it helps the quarterback.
So let's be honest. Okay, all right, sure, that's that's
I'll give you that. I'll give you that much, Okay,
But we've come to find out that maybe one of
(28:03):
Brady's biggest rival, if not the biggest rival of his,
may have also been cheating as well. Former Cults tackle
Tarik Glenn told the Indianapolis Star that when Peyton Manning
was a rookie, he was having an awful time dealing
with silent counts and doing so in loud stadiums. What
Glenn told the paper was that they used a hearing
(28:27):
aid the offensive lineman did that would muffle out the
crowd noise and allow them to hear Peyton Manning because
they weren't able to operate via a silent count because
he couldn't get it down. So the hearing aids would
help the colts. A lineman here Manning's call when he
was a rookie in n And you know what, the
lineman got carried away with the whole hearing aid thing.
(28:48):
I think they started going out to dinner at the
Early Bird Special because come on, oh, I love those
those those commercials too. You see a lot during the
Prices ride. Consumer Cellular is another big cons But the
fact is, is this a big deal? If Peyton Manning
(29:09):
was cheating, this happened twenty years ago, Ross Okay, short locks,
short locks, short locks, Richmond, Florida, Buffalo. There's what an
offensive lineman would have been able to hear clearly with
their hearing aids if this was I don't think this
is as big of a deal as people are making
it out to be. And maybe I'm sitting there thinking
(29:31):
that all this happened twenty years ago. This wasn't Peyton
Manning at the top of his game. This was Peyton
Manning breaking into the league where he threw interception after interception.
So while there were there was there was promise with
Peyton Manning in his first year, there are also a
lot of interceptions. That's how I look at this. I
don't look at this is one of the best at
the top of his game trying to get over on
(29:53):
the opponent. I look at it as a team trying
to move a rookie quarterback in and trying to make
things work a they stopped gaps and maybe you know,
bigger and better things. That's how I don't think that
this is a big deal at all, and I don't
think that this should tarnish Peyton Manning's legacy. No. I
think you're you're you're right because it's happening after the fact.
It's when you get caught during that I think people
(30:16):
would like if if you were still playing, you know
what I mean, and and you can point back to
something or he won a championship or he did something.
It's harder, uh, when a guy has retired and moved
on to go back, unless it's just some unbelievable stuff
that someone documents, Like I keep saying, there's gonna be
a Tom Brady book, anybody doubt that, or or a
(30:38):
Patriots book. There will be one that will spill the beans,
and you'll, I'm telling you, Tom Brady, there's a good
chance that he's gonna wind up being Lance Armstrong without
the bicycle. It's gonna be called out Foxborough. All right.
I like that very nice, But but I believe that
there's you know, organizational secret and stuff that was done
(31:01):
with the with the Patriots that will later find out.
But in this case, I think you're right. I'll summarize
how I feel about the flate gate. Okay, the numbers
were obviously not what was initially reported in the report
by ESPN. The the pressure of the football's I think
that every NFL player or team does stuff to aid
(31:24):
their aid them in their pursuit, whether it be trimming
a grass field to make it a fast track, or
maybe let that grass grow a little bit more, maybe
you wet, maybe you put a little extra water on
it if a fast team is coming. I think all
of that stuff ends up happening. And I actually put
the flating of in that case, I I don't I
(31:44):
look at that as flat out cheating from this damnpoint.
The league sent out memos about it. It was it
was there's a reason. And then when you look at
the Patriots, they had the least amount of fumbles you know,
in the league, and people were saying the ball was
softer and and they could hold onto it unlike other teams.
There's some other stuff to me. I I hear what
(32:05):
you're saying. You're looking for it a little bit of
advantages and things like that. But I think in this case,
to set up the Patriots had a history of cheating,
and because they had the spy gate, Dan, that's what
complicates it. If it's just deflate gate by itself, maybe
I can take a look and say it's not a
big deal. But because of what went down with spy Gate,
(32:28):
you start to say this is a pattern and this
is what this organization is about. If you ever held
a football, like if you did you ever test what
a football? Because I felt a football that was asked,
how much do you think this weighs? And I thought
it was over and it was under it was under
the rule you you really can't tell. I think owning
(32:49):
thing Dan, if it doesn't matter, it wouldn't be or
if it doesn't matter. There wouldn't be a rule about it.
And number two, the other part is you know this
and I know this that uh the league that that
that the that the Patriots had had a history of this.
This was like leaked to the league because other teams
were complaining way before this, you know what I mean
(33:11):
about it, and then it finally came out in that
an FC championship. This thing with Manning happened so long ago.
It is so far in the past you almost look
at it as like spitballs and and doctoring the baseball.
Now you gotta look back and laugh at it. And
I think that's where we are with at least with
this roop. But this is gonna change anything. I just
think it's a very unique story and also sheds light
on some of the struggles that Peyton Manning may have
(33:32):
had early on in his season, even though most of
his career was I'm still waiting on that lawsuit from
Peyton Manning from Al jaze On Al Jazero, let me
know when that goes through. He's Rob Barker, I'm Dan Buyer.
This is Fox Sports Radio. The phone numbers eight seven, seven,
nine nine on Fox at eight seven seven nine, six
six three six nine. Speaking of the NFL, which all
time great Chicago Bear thinks his team is cursed. We
(33:56):
tell you next here on Fox Sports Radio. Still wait
on Gordon Hayward's official decision. He's Rob Parker, I'm Dan Buyer.
This is Fox Sports Radio. If you missed it. A
report earlier today so that Gordon Hayward was gonna play
for the Boston Celtics, and then uh, not so fast,
you could say, Rob, as there are, there's more and
more information coming out that an official decision hasn't been reached.
(34:19):
The Utah Jazz and their president tweeting out that they
continue to have communication. It can't become official until July
six at the earliest. We did expect Gordon Hayward's decision
to be made today. And while there is the report
out there that Gordon Hayward was gonna go with the Celtics,
there's now another report. We could go through all the
reports and be here all day, but there's another report
(34:40):
that maybe this decision won't even officially be made today.
So now we're in a holding pattern, just like we
were with DeAndre Jordan and the Clippers and the Mavericks.
That was interesting as well, and it wound up he
changed his mind. Yes, and then this could be the
case here as well, where maybe word leaked and Gordon
Hayward got to thinking, but he got cold feet. You
(35:00):
never know. I mean, it can happen until until it's finalized, right,
anything could happen. That's that's just the way it is.
I still believe he's gonna wind up in Boston. It's
just my gut, and I think that he just didn't
tell Utah yet and probably feels a little red faced,
you know what I mean, Like I probably should have
made that call first, and it got out somehow, you know,
(35:21):
like I didn't think it was gonna get out, and
that's why even the team president was the Starks. Just
he doesn't sound that confident. He just sounds like, whoa,
we haven't heard and it's nothing like better than communications,
you know what I mean. Like he's just kind of
covering himself to say, well, it's not official yet, but
he said communications still exists, so that's what he's saying.
(35:42):
It's all fun and games for everybody else except the Jazz,
Heat and Celtics. Um. Speaking of fun and games, let's
reach into godly sack. All right, let's do that, Rob.
But we can't do it without the friend, the help
of our good friend Ralph Ivan. Hey, Ralph, Hello, what
have you got today for us? Well? Today we've got
guess who I love? Guess who? All right, this is
(36:06):
where we get the guests. Who did what? Rob? Yeah? Yeah,
let's do it all right, Rob? Alright, Ralph, let's throw
it up. I got one of the names, right, both
thought it? All right? Well, this great player is a
theory about why the Bears have had misfortunes over the
last four years. He calls it the Lovey Smith curse.
(36:30):
You want to take a guess or do you want
me to take this? To take this one? Okay, I
am going to say. I'm gonna say Jay Cutler, Jay Cutler. Now,
Lovey Smith has got to be someone recently, right, it
can't be an old time bear. Well it says all
time great Chicago Bear. But but he's talking about Lovey Smith.
(36:50):
How about Brian or Locker? Ah? There it is all right.
I just said because he's in the media now, right,
so he's always talking our stuff. I just had to
assume that what did Brian er Lacker say just thinks
they're cursed. Well, love me. Smith got fired when the
team went ten and six, and since that time they
went eight and eight under Mark Trestman. Trestman was fired
(37:12):
after the fourteen season, going five and eleven, and then
under John Fox have gone six and ten and three
and thirteen. Oh he thinks that they because they and
not too many coaches get fired. That's it, that was
the problem, alright, Ralph? What else he got? All right? Well,
this player, he's a big guy, has signed a new
(37:37):
five year, fifty six million dollar deal with the Oakland Raiders,
makes him the third highest paid guard in football. God,
this is all you guess what guard signed? Rob Barker?
This is all you gotta take this? Can I can
I pass guard? What guard? Look up? Let me look up?
(38:01):
Five years, fifty six million dollars. Wait a minute, let
me look up his stats. Oh he doesn't have any Okay,
all right, I am going to say Keen Connors. Okay,
Keen used to work here at Fox Sports. Yeah, who
was it? Who was it? That was? Gabe Jackson? Gabe Jackson? Yeah, okay,
(38:25):
got one for you. Yes, who is that guy across
the streets guests him? It's Gabe Jackson. I believe that's
Keen Connors well playing, well playing, and he's getting on
the bus right, get on the bus, all right, you
got one more for it. I've got one more for you.
Major League Baseball angel Hernandez is suing the league, saying
(38:48):
that this guy is a personal vendetta against him. Albert
pool Holes. Ah wow, personal vendetta is another player or executive.
It would be a league executive. Who is it? Joe
Tory was Scott lead sack uh Baseball's All Star Game
(39:15):
is a week from today. You will see it on Fox.
And things are starting to heat up with the trade
deadline coming up at the end of the month. But
nothing is heating up like Gordon Hayward and the possibility
of where the free agent forward may be going. What's
interesting in all of this? Rob Parker and if you're
just tuning in, welcome in. We want to get you
up to date. It was at around two thirty Eastern
(39:37):
time eleven thirty Pacific time that words started to leak
out that Gordon Hayward was going to sign with the
Boston Celtics and ESPN report also a USA Today report
followed that Hayward had made up his mind to play
for the Boston Celtics. There was nothing official from Hayward,
nothing official from the Celtics, nothing official from the Jazz
or the Miami Heat, who also had visits with Hayward
(39:58):
over the last couple of days. But then the pumping
of the brake started to happen, his agent saying that
no decision has been made, and now going as far
as saying a decision may not even be made. Today,
Utah Jazz president Steve Starks releases a statement saying that
they continue to talk with Gordon Hayward and now this
is more up in the air, very similar to what
(40:20):
DeAndre Jordan had when it was believed he committed to
the Dallas Mavericks and then the Clippers were able to
change his mind. Is maybe he was having second thoughts.
Is that all happened in that week window where there
was a moratorium. You can't you can do verbal commitments,
but you can't officially sign with teams until the new
league gear starts for the NBA this year that is
coming up on Thursday. So maybe Gordon Hayward did make
(40:42):
up his mind and could be having cold feats on
how this is all played out. It could be or
it's just that he's trying to save face now because
the story got out before he was able to call
Starks and the Utah Jazz people in front office and
owner and say hey, I'm on my way out. And
sometimes it happens where he made a decision, he lets
(41:05):
some people know and it gets out and then all
of a sudden, you're stuck because you didn't make that
phone call. Well, let's let's take that situation and look
at it because of where we are ninety minutes later.
Don't you think if that was the case that if
words started to leak out, if if you're Gordon Hayward,
w don't you just immediately then call the Jazz? No,
(41:26):
because I still think that deep down and I know
what you're saying. If you're on your way or whatever,
you should have done it. But now he's probably like, uh,
feeling a little bad that it got out, So he's
taking his time and said to Jazz to pacify them
for the night. Oh no, we haven't made a decision yet,
do you know what I mean? Like, just just chill out.
(41:47):
We're still thinking about it. I'm gonna let you know
and then he'll call back, you know, and say yeah, okay.
You know, I thought over it, and I went back
and forth, but I'm gonna take the the situation in
Boston and I'm gonna leave, okay, but thanks for everything.
And I think it's just a pacification of the Utah
(42:08):
Jazz who now feel like, wow, we drafted this guy,
we did all this stuff, and now you know what
I mean, like he he walked out on us without
even telling us. And I think that's where people get
their feelings hurt. And I think he's trying to be
a nice guy, and I think it might be kind
of late, but I think that's where it is. Well
that I believe he's going to the self. That's where
I'm curious of. I would have thought that a call
(42:31):
would have been made and the reason why I don't think.
I think it would have been damaged control on the
part of Gordon Hayward in saying, hey, I I apologize guys.
That word leaked out. It wasn't supposed to leak out.
But I am going to play for the Boston Celtics.
I appreciate my time. You've done so much for me.
It's now been ninety minutes since that report came out,
(42:52):
and within that time, we've gotten this message from Steve Starks,
the president of the Jazz, and I will read the
tweets verbatim, so you and to sign on your own
and if this is just a smoke screen, if this
is just the delay until they feel they're going to
be dealt with the inevitable, or if they feel that
they are still into it. Steve Starks tweets we trust
Gordon and his agent that no decision has been made,
(43:13):
good communication all day and a great relationship. That was
the tweet sent out that to me, Rob does not
sound like the president of a team that thinks that
they just lost their start forward that helped him to
the Western Conference semifinals. Yeah, but it also doesn't sound
like a confident GM that that that that we're gonna
get the guy, you know what I mean, or that
(43:34):
he uh wish he didn't say we're still in the
running or or or or or we're in the finalist,
or he didn't mention that because he's just saying what
he's doing. It by saying it the way he did
is kind of putting the onus on them that we
trust Gordon. Do you see what I'm saying, because now
that's saying that it's not a done deal and we
(43:56):
trust Gordon is agent that no decision has been made.
Good can good communication all day and a great relationship.
So so I just think that the story got out,
they were a little embarrassed and Utah won't won't take
it well that you didn't have the common decency or
a courtesy to call us first before you told other people.
(44:19):
And that's really what they're trying to smooth it over
so that this guy he has to be able to
go back stalks to his fan base and say we
tried everything we could. You know what I mean, it
didn't work out, and it looks embarrassing to him that
he didn't even get a phone call. I'm gonna throw
out this scenario. You think it's gonna change. Do you
think he's going back to Utah? I don't know where
he's going, just that it's not Boston. And I'm gonna
(44:43):
just say that this theory that Gordon Hayward, after deliberating
over this over the last four days, is your buddy
from Salt Lake tweeted earlier that this is Beeny Jones
of the Salt lake Trimmune reported that he has been
going back and forth over the last couple of days
on this decision, that when he felt like he needed
to make a decision today and when that decision was
(45:06):
made and then it was leaked out that maybe hold
on a second, maybe I don't feel as comfortable because
this news leaked out in signing with the team that
I thought I wanted to be on. So if Gordon
Hayward is making the biggest decision of his life, which
many people are calling it on where he wants to
play next, it's a basketball team for a lot of money, dude,
(45:26):
It's not the end of the world. But if he
if he is struggling with the decision, if we're in
his shoes and he feels wrong by it. This the
Celtics and the Heat were in different different positions than
the Utah Jazz were. Okay, Gordon Hayward knew the Utah Jazz.
He knew he had the most information on the Jazz
and on that organization, but he knew how to meet
(45:48):
with him in San Diego. What was that yesterday or whatever.
But if his first interaction, the more he finds out
from the Boston Celtics is that they can't keep a secret,
or they don't understand how important this was to me.
That news gets leaked out, then maybe I am feeling burned,
Maybe I want to take a step back. And he's
got forty eight hours to do so. Heck, he's got
even more. He doesn't have to sign right when the
(46:09):
new League years starts, So I think all of that
is legitimately coming up. Usually, Rob when when news breaks
like this and it's a big decision, we know within
the hour that it becomes official, or we see a
tweets or we see something. All we've seen are a
few tweets from reports of saying it's done. We've seen
more tweets of others saying that it's not done, and
(46:30):
we've seen a tweet of Isaiah Thomas dancing. That's all
that we've thought. And I have a feeling that Isaiah
Thomas um maybe got the information that these reporters got
that hey, Gordon Hayward is coming to us, and now
things aren't. I think things would have been cleared up
um at least somewhat some damage control would have been
done by now. But now we're going on almost two
(46:50):
hours where this is kind of sitting there, will here,
won't he go to Boston. I'll just I'm just going
from the years of being a reporter in these situations.
You Jelie would have smoked his fire, and I just
think it's an egg situation that he feels bad that
it got out and and just has to make amends
and make Utah feel like decent about it. You know,
(47:11):
I'm gonna leave, but I should have called. I didn't
know how it got out, and I apologize for all
that because you remember we talked about it with Dan Gilbert.
He found out that that Lebron James was leaving Cleveland
on the TV show the decision. No phone call was made.
You know, Dan Gilbert couldn't have felt good as an owner,
and I think in Utah's case, they don't feel happy. Well,
(47:31):
I I will say this, I will say his for
the team. And you, I know you didn't agree with it,
you dismissed it earlier. But to have Gordon Hayward make
an announcement to know at seven o'clock Eastern time that
whatever network, this is a guy who, by the way,
is a top twenty player. We're not talking top ten,
We're talking a top twenty. If Gordon Hayward was making
his decision tonight on Fox Sports One at seven o'clock
(47:54):
Eastern time, we'd be watching. And I think it would
be great TV. And I think the ad a new
for networks to do this. This is all we want
and you know what we would get from that. In
addition to drama, we'd get clarity, which we don't have
right now because all we have a speculation. But Dan,
if they really thought they could monetize it and it
was worth doing it, they would do it. I don't
(48:16):
think Gordon Hayward. I mean, you know basketball, you follow it.
It's your job, right, Okay. There's a lot of people
in NBA America and people don't know who he is.
He played in Utah, so half the country right when
they played it was ten o'clock at night. They never
saw him play. They don't know who he is. They
really a lot of people don't know who he is.
And I think that's why, as as valuable as he
(48:37):
is two teams and people want them, I still think
that it's like an NBA secret and the masses don't
know who he is, and him having a decision TV
show wouldn't fly because if they could make money off
of it, they would do it. I'm just saying it's
not only him, it's all free agents. If Paul George, okay,
we've got some Laker fans across us on the on
(49:00):
the other side of the glass, and I like to
bring them in for because they are in tune with
the fan base. If you found out, okay, that Paul
George on July threeen was making his decision on where
he wants to play next. Would Ryan Music our executive producer,
John Ramos, our technical producer, Would you guys tune into
that broadcast? I absolute would, yes, okay, John, Would you
(49:26):
as a Lakers fan wanting to see where Paul George goes? Yes,
I would tune in. And that's where like Boston would
tune in, Miami would tune in, Salt Lake would tune in.
Basketball fans like us, we would tune into something like that.
That is great drama. That is TV. And you know what,
it doesn't have the dirty feeling that recruiting does when
(49:47):
kids are picking hats. These are professionals, these are grown men.
There is something to that. These free agent decisions should
be the decision. So while you say Lebron ruined the NBA.
The decision actually would have been great for the NBA
of free agents would have been able to follow us.
Don't let me see here are my choices. I could
watch Gordon Hayward's decision. I could watch UH three on
(50:12):
three old timers basketball. I could watch the w n
b A, or I can watch a rerun of ALF.
I think I'm picking out. Okay, yeah, you're out of space.
Rob Parker's out of space, Ryan Music, go ahead. I
do think one thing that could be different if more
free agencies did that wasn't Lebron's an hour long special.
I think thirty minutes. It would be much better because
(50:35):
the problem with Lebrons was it did get dragged out
and felt a little bit too long. It was forced,
it was it was way too long. A thirty minutes,
that's I mean in TV time, you take like two
three commercial breaks. It's really you do like one, you
do a two part sit down interview with him, and
then at the very end you give it to him
and it's thirty minutes of your time. I think it
(50:56):
would actually do well, Thank you very much. We could
agree to disagree and it would be like Okay, Uh,
most of the people would say, I mean Bordon Heyward,
where does he? But yeah, if you're gonna do this
on a Sunday in November, yeah you're no one's gonna watch.
But on July when there's nothing else going on except
for regular season baseball, I think nothing other than I said,
(51:19):
other than regular season baseball? What what else is going
on in the world of sports right now? I still
don't know if that would make me want to watch it.
I mean, that's that's the thing. It's it's not the
idea that someone's gonna tune in like it's Game seven
of the NBA Finals. But I think you would have
at least like somewhat of an audience. While Rob's watching
America's Got Talent, We're watching That's what we are watching.
(51:40):
That's what would end up happen the next time. The
next time I watched that, Dan, that'll be the first
time he's I've never seen it. He's Rob Parker, I'm
Dan Yer. This is the The Got Leave Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Reach out to us on Twitter. I'm
at Dan Buyer on Fox. Rob, they can get you
at Rob Parker f S one. Okay, So Rob and
I are on different sides of the fence. Let's go
to a former NBA player to find out how Gordon
(52:02):
Hayward is dealing with this free agency decision that coming
up next year. On Fox Sports Radio. He's Rob Parker.
I'm Dan Buyer. This's his Fox Sports Radio. Gordon Hayward's
decision still up in the air, as reports earlier today
said that he was going to the Boston Celtics and
then a hold on a second here no official word
from the Celtics, Hayward, the Jazz or the Miami Heat,
(52:25):
And in fact, the Jazz say that communication continues with
them and Hayward on the free agent's decision. He has
until I guess whenever. But the new league gear starts
on Thursday, where things can become official. But we're finding
out more and more about this non decision with Gordon Hayward.
And I mentioned that post of Isaiah Thomas dancing in
the kitchen. Our update anchor Ralph Irvin told me that
(52:49):
his Isaiah Thomas's wife is the one that posted that
the social media. She has since taken that video down.
Dundun Yes, so well, because he's got his shirt off
and hair is getting into to the pudding that she's making.
Maybe it was excited because he was watching Joey Chestnut
eat seventy two. Yeah, yeah, I can't do it when
(53:10):
you got to dunk it in water without condiments and
sour crowd and relish. So I just eating a hot
dog dipped in water. I can't do it. Old in polonies,
how many hot dogs can you down on a Fourth
of July celebration. I'll give a sign, give him about six.
Maybe I'm thinking four, and I am maxed out. I
(53:33):
am absolutely maxed I'm going to admit that when I
was twelve years old, our little league team had a
barbecue at Mr Fausse's house in Jamaica, Queens, and I
ate twelve hot dogs. All right, very nice, A good job.
Hey guys, I'll tell you this. I ate thirty deviled
eggs before. Do you still have gas to this day? Day?
(54:00):
So this day I'm still re in the rewards old
and following his fifteen year NBA vet and NBA analysts
and our teammate here on Fox Sports Radio joining us here,
He's Rob Parker. I'm Dan Buyer. What would be the
hang up with this? Gordon Hayward decision, whether smoke is
there fire? Do you think that he's still headed to
the Celtics and and if not, why is this or
(54:22):
why is this whole situation happening where we don't have
an official announcement yet from from any of the parties involved.
I think he's taken us time. I don't think there's
gonna be a hangoup. The only hangout is probably, you know,
kind of like what Theandre Jordan went through last year.
You know, I you know, I've been in Utah, and
you know, I feel the the need to at least
(54:42):
give them a shot, that kind of whole thing. But
I do believe that he's leading towards Boston. I think
that's what he's gonna do, only because of Brad Stevens.
I mean, somebody's familiar with that recruited him, so he's
he has firsthand knowledge of who this guy is as
a coach. And the fact that the Celtics really are
about one or two players away from being the dominant
(55:04):
team in the East. You know, that's very attractive. He
stays in Utah, he's gonna be an also ran because
we know who's leading the pack in that in that Conference. Well, Olden,
I say that for all the bluster and all the
player changing for the NBA and free agency and whatnot,
in these trades that have gone on, I don't think
(55:26):
anything's changed. I still look at Cleveland in the seven
game series. I'm always taking Lebron and I'm still looking
at Golden State. Have you changed your mind? Is there
somebody else different from the moves that have been made
so far that you like back? Not even close. I mean,
I'm sticking with the Warriors and most likely the Cleveland
Cavaliers unless something weird happens in the East, because you know,
(55:48):
the the the dishes that teams made, Paul George going
to outrooma city doesn't really make them a contender, okay,
because you still have four guys in Oakland that are
four the top players in the league, and unless you
can get four other guys that matched them point for point,
rebond for rebond, it's not gonna happen. So all these
teams they made the change, they look cute and all,
(56:08):
but it's not making a big difference. Olden. Balini's joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Rob Parker, I'm
Dan Buyer. How do other players, and you, as a
former player, look at Durant taking less money at Golden State.
How how do you view that move? Well, I respected
in a lot of ways. I respect David West more
than a Kevin Durant. Durant's making a couple of hundred
(56:30):
million dollars off the court, so he can he can
play for a million dollars right now if he wanted
to and not break a sweat. But a guy like
David West, who never really got a big, big contract,
still meant taking less money to being part of that's
more impressive to me. I still respect what Durant has done,
but I'm more impressed by a guy like David West
holding I'm gonna disagree right here on the on the
(56:52):
Kevin Durant. And this is why nobody else is asked
to take less money. Okay, Steph got his forty million.
He didn't. He didn't say, well, let's let me help
out the other guys and I'll take less. He got paid,
he got his forty and then everybody else Igo Dowag
wanted his raise. Everybody else wanted their money. But the
one guy who was the m v P, who's one
(57:14):
of the top three players in the league. He's taking
fifteen million dollars less than Steph Curry to help everybody out.
The owners aren't giving any money back. They got a
break of twenty million dollars right for the luxury tax.
They're not making tickets cheaper for fans. There's no give
back to anybody. Why in the world should he have
to take less money to Pacifire to help everybody else.
(57:36):
I think it's rong. He doesn't you teaching so quiet here.
I'm in total agreement with everything you just said. Okay,
total agreement. The only thing I was saying is that
you know, he chose to take it. That's on him.
That's his business. But again, that's why I made the rest.
I'm more impressed with a guy like David West. But
you know, like Steph. You mentioned Steph, step was getting
(57:57):
paid on the bat, you know, because of what happened
the last year. You know, we knew he was under
pay the last couple of years, but he had money
he makes Molie taken. I really don't believe he should
have taken a pay cut, you know, taking less money,
but that's what he decided to do with this fine,
so I do respect it. But again, what I was saying,
a guy like a David West who's not making you
(58:18):
know that much money still, you know, taking less money
like last year to go join them. I had a
lot more respects for that. No, I hear you, and
I just I just say this in general. I remember,
this is the difference between the Players Association in in
the NBA and Major League Baseball. Alex Rodriguez had a
deal to go to the Red Sox, but he had
(58:39):
to take a pay cut right from the salary he
had with the Rangers, and the Union stepped in and said, no,
you're not there's no such thing. You're not taking a
pay cut. It's not happening. We're not opening up this
can of worms. And it never happened. And they won't
allow players to take less than their value. I don't
know why it's okay in the NBA for players to
(59:00):
take less. And I don't care what he makes off
the field, off the court. Because Steph Curry has a
contract with under Armed, nobody brings up nobody brings up
his money and says night. But okay, Rob, check this out.
The thing is this. The bottom line is you are
right again. Major League Baseball that's the difference between Major
League Baseball and the NBA. We're brain washed. NBA have
(59:22):
been brainwashed for years a year, you know, just like
Major Baseball. They own their licensing and everything else, so
it's an equal partnership with them. And so you know,
the great point about the Alex Rodriguez contract, You're right,
I gotta get what I'm able to get. You know,
how come I'm limited. That's why I don't like this
whole cap thing. I'm limited on earning money, but you're
(59:43):
not limited on how much you can make, how many
how much you can trust the tickets. I've always been
a proponent of you know, I've always argued that it's like, hey,
the players should be able to make what they can get,
forget the salary cap crap. So it's not fair, you know,
let him make whatever they can make because the owners
don't have a cat. And at the end of the day,
(01:00:03):
if I'm making a hundred million, how much are you making? Right? Right?
You know, exactly, And no one ever brings up when
they talk about the Warriors saving the twenty million. They
don't talk about the warriors owners wealth outside of the NBA,
and never say, well, why don't you use that money
to pay to luxury tax? No, they don't. They act
like that money doesn't even matter. And the only thing
(01:00:24):
they always do is ask players to get back. I
think it's wrong. And they've gone from four hundred sixty
million dollars when they were purchased to two point six billions.
That's major. Lebron knows that as well. And you know,
I got the other thing with this that I think
is unique. There's two things. Number One, it's the Warriors.
You can't do this with Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets, Okay,
(01:00:46):
like like you you can't like Kemba Walker can't say
I'm gonna take a pay cut to keep this cord together.
The the the Warriors are so are so far away
better than everybody in there at the top of the heap.
You're not gonna sit there and say that with another organization.
The other thing with this, and this is where maybe
some people can be cynics and attacking Kevin Durant, but
I don't think he gets as much flak because it's
(01:01:08):
andre Iguodala, because it seems it's not like a big three,
Like do you like do you think you would get
the same flak. If this was saving money for steph career,
how do you think that would be received. I think
it's different because it seems that Kevin Durant is bringing
in and I don't mean Andrea Goodala's unless your player,
but he's not a superstar as it as opposed to
Lebron and Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. I think Durant
(01:01:30):
is getting a pass on this because it looks like
andre Igodala is a team player. You agree or disagree, Olden, No,
I agree with that. He is a team guy. He's
one of the cogs that you really needed. But you
know what they were actively, you know, talking to Rudy
Days as the case, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green just
in case, you know, we lost Igadala, so to me,
(01:01:53):
you know, they already had a contention plan. So you know,
he did what he did. And again, you gotta always say,
but it might set a precedent that we don't really
want to, you know, get into bang, you know, streaking
the rod Point. Players should not be giving back money.
I'm sorry. At the end of the day, these owners
make too much damn money for guys to oh, I'm
(01:02:15):
gonna take a pay no, no, you know all you
can get because when it's all said and done, stay
forget about you unless you are Michael do Lebron, unless
you're a major major stars forgotten. Asked Wayne Wade about
them taking a cut for helping out the team, and
see what they did to him in my that's why
he's not in Miami now he's Rob Parker. I'm Dan
(01:02:37):
bay Air Olden Polonie, fifteen year NBA vet and Fox
Sports Radio NBA analysts. Thank you so much for joining
us today and I have a great fourth that's right
old and taking easy buddy. Thank you guy. Find them
on Twitter at Olden polonies One. Interesting from a former
player perspective as well. And it's funny when you bring
up cbas and unions on everybody outside of the baseball
(01:03:00):
union is envious? May not be the right word, maybe
rightfully show if they were for what baseball has and
what the NBA and really what the NFL is. I
think I think you're right when you say envious. They
have an unbelievable union, unbelievable war chest, the way that
they deal with stuff you don't hear like a fraction
of players talking is one voice, and that's all you
(01:03:22):
ever hear, right, And if they and they know what
they're doing, if they ever have work stoppages, which they
don't have anymore. But they used to pay the guy's
mortgages and stuff that there was no belly aching. Guys
didn't be like, how am I gonna do this? No,
the union just paid it. They paid your mortgage. You
need money, they gave it to you, and then when
you made your money back, you paid back into the union.
(01:03:42):
That's what That's how they handled everything. He's Rob Barker.
I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Radio as we're
in for Doug Gottlieb here on fs are hit us
up on Twitter. I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox you
can get robbed at Rob Barker FS one. Gordon Hayward's
decision is still up in the air. But where would
he best fit that next? Two hours later, we still
have no idea. He's Rob Parker. I'm Dan buy are
(01:04:04):
glad to have you with us on this fourth of July,
Happy Independence Day? Robbed getting the fireworks out later? Hey
a little bit maybe on IM I might like to
like particip pay to take a look at it. Sure, sure,
I think I got something I've got I don't have.
I don't have thirty deviled eggs or twelve hot dogs
like you down to the thirty eggs like old and does.
But I've got to You've gotta be impressed. Twelve hot
(01:04:25):
dogs at twelve years that's a lot of hot dogs.
I ate more, I think when I am surprising when
you see me. But I think I eat more when
I was a kid than what I did now. I
remember just downing like I would like a normal a
normal meal for me after a sporting sporting event as
a kid, my treat would be to go to Hardy's
and I would get three chicken sandwiches, plain yeah, and
(01:04:47):
no problem, no problem whatsoever about the kids that that
will eat like a tub of ice cream and like
without even blow, like the whole thing. And you're like
what I did think watching today's hot dog eating contest
on how much you could save time if you just
ate like they did instead of sitting down to eat
two hot dogs, which would take me, um ten minutes,
(01:05:08):
I would say probably five minutes on each dog. I
gotta admit I was thinking about what I was having
lunch going to Burger King today. I think the hot
dogs are seventy nine cents? Is that what it is?
Something like something like that. And I've had those before.
I've tried them the last time they had hot dogs like,
I don't know if they have them all the time,
but they're actually pretty good percent beef. And I had
(01:05:29):
them and I was driving around Sherman Oaks looking for
Burger King. I really was, I'm gonna move for a
hot dog today. If you can't find only just stop
at somebody's barbecue and just show up and say, hey,
that's what's going on. And then I'll be in handcuffs
when I walk into somebody's backyard unannounced, unwelcome. I think
I'm going to eat the hot dogs today, like Joey Chestnut,
just at this get together and see what people. Yeah,
(01:05:51):
just see what people do. Just jamming it, jamming in
my mouth. And have you ever seen how hot dogs
are made? Oh no, but I've heard stories. I think
they after that it's hard to eat when you think
about this is why I don't want to know, because
I don't want to find out the other suggestions that
YouTube would give me. Once I type in how hot
dogs are made, you do. I don't want to see
(01:06:11):
what the other things that they would suggest. Okay, if
you had to suggest where Gordon Hayward should go, where
is that destination because apparently he's still trying to figure
out where that is. Because when when you look at
the only thing against Utah, Rob truly is there in
(01:06:31):
the West. Okay, No, there's no, there's nothing wrong with
Salt Lake. It's beautiful. I love the area, would love
to vacation there more if I was able to. I
love Salt Lake and that was me. I've covered games
that have been to Salt Lake City, and I've been
to to the the Old Salt Palace. If Saltlake well,
(01:06:52):
here to your point, if Salt Lake City was so
bad for Gordon Hayward, they wouldn't have been in the
rotation of the three. Well, it wouldn't. He would just
move on. He would look for a different team. And
if you didn't want to stay there and be simple enough,
you just talked with Boston, Miami and maybe another team,
but it wouldn't be the Jazz. Honously, I think he
wants to be nice though, you know, like guys, I
(01:07:12):
think he's genuinely a nice guy and doesn't want to
come off as being, uh, you know, a richard, and
so he just decided that I'm going to try to
be nice and diplomatic about it and let them down softly.
And it's not like when Alonzo ball after his last
game and at in the n c A tournament when
(01:07:34):
they lost, like and he didn't have like he didn't,
he didn't have like some Well, I'll get back to
you next week. We'll have a press conference about my
future goals. That was my last game in college. That
was it, right? His dad had also been saying it
for months. No, but I'm just saying, but, but Alonzo,
he didn't. He didn't him and Hall and try to
make U c l A feeling better. That was my
(01:07:56):
last game in college. I'm done. Well. I think that
drawing it out in a King Utah think they have
a chance would be worse than anything else. It's like
breaking up with a girl, like do you really want
to string her out? Which you just want to know?
Or probably for most of my life when a girl
wanted to dump me, were they just gonna string me
out or just let me know right away? A buddy
of mine, he got a chick broke up with him
(01:08:19):
at dinner Are you ready for this? And had the
goal the audacy to order lobster first. So they were
at the table waiting for this lobster and she says,
you know, things really aren't working out between us, and
I don't think we should see each other anymore. He said, oh, really, okay? Cool,
and he said I'll be right back and walked out.
(01:08:41):
And that was it. You know, he ordered lobster. Who
orders lobster when you're about to break up with somebody?
But didn't she give him crabs? Come on, come on,
it's too easy. That was too easy, easy for the
July firecracker right there. Hey. The only thing, the only
(01:09:04):
thing worse than that is did you see the video
of the girl who got pulled into water by the
sea sea lion? Right? Yes, yes? And the only bad
part about it was the dad who jumped in immediately
to help her and all that. That was great, But
then afterwards he I just don't know what he's thinking.
(01:09:25):
He asked her what does she want for dinner and
suggested red lobster. She just wasn't Oh jeez, okay. We
started out talking about Gordon Hayward and where would be
the best fit and hour and now we're talking about
seafood gone bad. I think, I truly think if Utah
(01:09:45):
didn't have a legitimate possibility of bringing Hayward back, they
never would have been in the running anyway. And when
you're trying to the side between Boston and Miami, if
you're looking at whether maybe you like the seasons, but
when you're an NBA player, you don't get tons of
seasons anyway, because you're in different towns here, there, and anywhere.
Sure Miami is gonna have the best best weather. The
(01:10:06):
difference between those two teams are this number one, where
are the team's going? Well? I think they both seem
to be trending in the in the right direction. Then
it's familiarity. Boston wins because of Brad Stevens, Okay, so
that would put them pat Riley and Erik Spoelster would
have to do one heck of a cell job to
really bring him there. So I think that while Miami
(01:10:26):
seemed like the the the in thing to do, I
really think it was down to Boston and Utah. And
so when we're in this holding pattern, down more than
two hours of finding out where Gordon Hayward is actually
going to go after the initial report that he was
going to go to the Celtics. It's got to be
between those two teams. Really don't think Miami is in
it at all. And so now if you're Gordon Hayward,
you're just trying to figure out familiarity of Utah or
(01:10:47):
the familiarity of Brad Stevens, because both teams are on
their way up, even though the Western Conference is a
much tougher uh conference to Navic pat Riley lost his touch,
you know, like this was supposedly going to be a
big for him if he was able to pull it out.
And you know, pat Riley has has quite an impressive resume,
and uh, maybe he's losing his touch. Maybe people just
(01:11:10):
on as a pat Riley here willed as in the past,
and and and Gordon Hayward. The thing against pat Riley
that I am surprised not more as me being made
of is the feeling of being scorned by Lebron okay,
because there's still some tension there. We talked yesterday how
things went down with Dwyane Wade and his contract and
(01:11:33):
now Chris Bosh. So if you are a name and
if you are a star point and you look at Miami,
how is it going to end for me? When those
three guys all had completely different endings and none of
them really ended on good terms with the Heat President.
That's I think one of the biggest issues that isn't
talked about in the NBA and maybe why stars aren't
(01:11:55):
going to Miami. That's a great point because when they
look at it and say, if they can treat Dwyane
Wade like that, yeah, how are you gonna treat me? Right?
And Wayne Wade hope that franchise win what three championships
too with lebronb but one with Chack Right. He's Rob Parker,
I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Radio. Hit us
up on Twitter. You can get Rob at Rob Parker
(01:12:15):
FS one, I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox and coming
up next. Yeah, Kevin Durant did take less with the
Golden State Warriors. Who's got a real big problem with it?
We tell you here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Rob Parker,
I'm Dan Buyer. It is the Doug Otleiep Show at
Fox Sports Radio. Phone numbers eight seven, seven nine nine
on Fox at eight seven seven nine six six three,
(01:12:36):
six nine, Happy fur the July Happy and Independence Day
parades going on everywhere. Longtime tradition of mine back home
in Wisconsin was the the parade that occurred just north
of my hometown and Tomahawk, Wisconsin. And a few times
got to drive through the drive in the July fourth parade. Yes,
(01:12:56):
that's uh. It was a a memory of many of
July four of growing up Dan. Is that a real parade?
If only twenty people show up, there's a lot more people,
a lot more people, Robb, there's a lot more people. Okay,
it's it's the entire county. Okay, the entire county goes.
And I don't know about you, but I've never thought
of July fourth, this Independence Day. I always thought that
was the day I got divorced. That was my jeez.
(01:13:19):
What Okay, go have twelve hot dogs, you know, to celebrate.
We are in for a Doug gott leave today. And
if you are a frequent listener, you know that Doug
likes to have fun and have fun with his teammates.
And when we talk teammates, we talked about everyone at
Fox earlier today, Shannon Sharp on Fox Sports one, Yeah,
(01:13:43):
you were on Fox Sports One today, What's Right? I
was on Disputed with Shannon Skip and Joytale and a
good Job Rob. I was sleeping is that's all? Just
slept in Today's a good rest. Woke up just fired
to see the seventy two hot Dogs down by Joey
chest Nothing was able to make it in but Shannon
Sharp not with you. But on the show today talked
(01:14:05):
about the decision that Kevin Durant made yesterday. I'm taking
less money allowing the Warriors to sign andre Igo Dolla
to ato million dollar deal, but really allowing Joe Lake Up,
the Warrior's owner, to pay twenty million dollars less in
a luxury tax bill. This is what I can't understand,
and I've racked my brain and I've gone back and
forth with this is how billionaires can convince millionaires to
(01:14:30):
take less money while they make more money and have
to spend less. I've never understood that skill. If you
think about this, when teams, regardless of the sport, when
they release a player, when they trade a player, what
is the first thing they yell out skill, I'm doing
what is best for the team. If you notice, the
(01:14:51):
owners will always do what's best for the team. Well,
if you are a billionaire and you can convince a
millionaire to take less while you make more, it's always
gonna be what's best for you. Tell me the situation. Well,
billionaire says, you know what, these workers are getting laid off,
(01:15:12):
and you know what, I don't want anybody else to
get laid off. I'm gonna foregrow my money and I'm
gonna make sure these guys have jobs. Okay, Rob, And
I don't want to say that you were line for
line and point for point with that, but it's a
lot to what you're talking about. It's almost like Shannon
saying that there's a game of three card money that
(01:15:33):
they're just not players aren't following, and the owners keep
on winning and winning and winning absolutely shed and Sharp
is right on the money. They're not. That's the point
that I'm making is that there's no trickle down effect
from the owners where they're going to, uh, you know,
help out other people or the fans or give them
a discount cause they're saving money. It's all about they're
(01:15:54):
saving money, but they're making money hand over fist, and
there's this fake salary cap structure and number that they
came up with that they're trying to convince people that
this is what you operate under. No, you know this,
then I notice it's whatever the market will bear, okay,
And and it just comes down that you do business.
(01:16:16):
You know how much money you take in, you know
how much money you can spend, right, and if you
don't do that after a while, what happens? You go
out of business. That's how it works. There's arbitrary number
and for players to be so gullible. And he says
it billionaires convince a millionaires to take less. And nobody
asked the owner of the Warriors to dig into his
(01:16:39):
personal money or what he makes outside of the sport
and pay the bills of the team. Right, So why
should why? Oh, Kevin Garnett, I mean Kevin Durant, he
doesn't need that money. He makes three million dollars or
whatever it is from Nike. He doesn't need that money.
He can play for a dollar. What what why should
(01:16:59):
he have to play for a dollar? I'm not buying it,
JENNI show up nailed it. This is what is interesting
because we've drawn parallels or comparisons, I should say to
Major League Baseball in the NFL. NFL, maybe more like
the NBA, where you even said it earlier on the
show The Baseball everybody wants to have the Baseball's Union.
What is interesting with the NBA and with the NFL,
(01:17:20):
And I'm gonna take these two scenarios. What was one
of the bigger topics that we had in the NBA
this year? It was rest? Right, Adam Silver says, we're
gonna address rest, we are going to make the schedule longer,
We're going to do different things. Well, when you're a
player and you're the players union, the owners are telling you,
we are conceding this to you. We are conceding rest
to you. And it's like the NFL when you're talking
(01:17:42):
about personal conduct policy, when you're talking about marijuana. All
of these other things are distractions to the real points
of money. And that's why there are some in the
NFL that feel like the next time in one when
the c b A would be up for renegotiation, that
you're going to see a lockout because the NFL players
(01:18:02):
are realizing the only way you can hurt the owners
is through money, and all of these other things are
just distractions, and all they have to do is look
at the history of the Major League Baseball, and people
can be met all they want, but you've got to
stop the game in order to get what you want
and make it fair. And right now, the NBA is
not fair, and neither is the NFL. Gordon Hayward's game
of let's make a deal is almost done. He's Rob Parker.
(01:18:25):
I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Radio, and we
talk about that game coming up next on this fourth
of July Independence Day holiday. I finally understood and understand
what Gordon Hayward is going through, Rob Barker, it is
finally dawned on me. Okay, I needed the help of you,
and I needed the help of olden polonies, and I
(01:18:46):
and I I've finally figured out what is happening. Gordon
Hayward reportedly made a decision to join the Celtics, and
now there are a bunch of reports and that was
a report from ESPN saying that no decision has been
made and there may not even be a decision today.
It's like when I go to a barbecue joints and
I'm like, should I get risk it? Should I get ribs?
Should I get chicken? Should I get burn ends pulled pork?
(01:19:08):
Which what do I do if I even want to combo?
I'm leaving something out and then you end up making
the decision and five minutes later, I'm already having buyer's remorse,
and I mean buyer by my last name. Yes, buyer's
remorse on what barbecue I chose. Maybe Gordon Hayward made
his mind up that he's going to go to the Celtics,
and then it set in for about ten minutes and
(01:19:29):
he thought to himself, h maybe I don't want to
go to Bean Town. Maybe there is something better for
me in Salt Lake City or Miami. That's what I
think that Gordon Hayward is doing when many people are
barbecuing on this independent stay. No, it could be I
still think you're gonna want to with the Celtics, and
I think he's just trying to find a way of
letting me the people in Utah down, uh, and not
(01:19:51):
feeling like he's let them, you know, like he let
them down. And Uh. I think that's where he is
and that's why he' kind of agent throughout there that
no decision has been made. Didn't say he was staying
in Utah, just said no decision has been made yet.
Do you see what I'm saying. Yeah, So that's why
I believe that them saying that is just so that
(01:20:13):
they can officially say to Utah, hey, thanks for everything,
it was great whatever, but we were moving on and uh,
he's gonna want up in Boston. You're saying that because
there's not conflicting reports of one person saying he's going
to Utah. There you go, it's the only of No,
a decision hasn't been made as opposed to yes, one
(01:20:34):
has been right, where's the story saying he's staying in Utah.
There is no story out there that's that's that's what's missing.
And then that would be where you would say, Okay,
maybe he's changed his mind or bars remorse. No, everything
is he's going to the Celtics, or no decision has
been made yet, that's nothing confirming that he's staying in Utah.
I do follow along on the thread, and maybe that's
(01:20:55):
because of my latest binge watching of Breaking Bad, that
maybe there was something put out there that Gordon Hayward
just had a bad feeling when he found out that
news started to leak that he wasn't able to get
all of his ducks in a row that he wasn't
able to get everything on his terms and making this decision,
and because the decision was so difficult that maybe Gordon
Hayward then had some second thoughts about that. So this
(01:21:18):
is there's there's a lot of stuff that is involved.
And in fact, Alex Kennedy, a Basketball Insiders, tweeted out,
then not only is Gordon Hayward's decision affecting the Celtics,
the Jazz and himself and the Miami Heat, it's also
apparently annoying some NBA free agencies. Kennedy tweeted that many
many free agents have been waiting for the Gordon Hayward
(01:21:39):
domino to fall so then they can figure out where
they're going. So there's a lot of ramifications about Gordon
Hayward taking his time to make a decision which wouldn't
become official at the earliest until Thursday. We'll tell him to,
you know, just relax, and he didn't have to rush
for them. He's gonna do what he's gotta do, and
they just gotta wait until it comes down. It's gonna
happen just a matter of time the holiday today, and
(01:22:00):
maybe they'll wait it out till tomorrow. You know what
I mean, and just said, Hey, sleep on it and uh,
and then you can get up in the morning. Sad.
I really thought about it. I really gave you talk
consideration that I was gonna stay, but ultimately I'm gonna leave,
and then you make that phone call tomorrow morning. We
were joined earlier on the show by fifteen year NBA
veteran Olden Polinese, who's also our teammate here at Fox
(01:22:23):
Sports Radio, and talked about the Gordon Heyward move or
the decision in making the move in free agency. This
was old and last hour here on FSR. I'm sticking
with the Warriors and most likely the Cleveland Cavaliers unless
something weird happens in the East, because you know, the
the the dish is that teams made Paul George going
to Oklahoma City doesn't really make them a contender, okay,
(01:22:46):
because you still have four guys in Oakland that are
four the top players in the league. And unless you
can get four other guys that matched them points for point,
Rebon for reby, it's not gonna happen. So all these
teams they made the change, they look cute and but
it's not difference and doesn't that what where it all
comes down to whether Gordon Hayward chooses Boston, whether Gordon
(01:23:07):
Hayward chooses the Utah Jazz, whether he chooses the Miami Heats,
the real nothing really changes in the NBA. Even if
he ends up going to Boston. It still seems that
the Warriors and Calves are above everyone else. I agree.
I think it's a lot of window dressing, a lot
of pigs with lipstick go on. That's that's where we
are in the NBA. Is when you talk about Dan
(01:23:30):
four out of seven, that's the that's the that's what
is the difference. You're telling me that a team could Boston,
could Boston beat Lebron and the Calves in one game,
or could somebody else West knock off the Warriors in
one game? Absolutely, but four out of seven with the
players that they have, I don't see it happening. So
do I expect. I fully expect the Warriors and Calves
to be in the NBA Finals for the four straight year.
(01:23:54):
And it's a bad thing for the NBA. But that's
where we are right now, and it might be six
years before anything change. Six Yeah, it could be six
years in a row. But do you think that the
Warriors are gonna have six years of pure dominance in
the NBA? Absolutely with the team that they have, if
it stays together and they and they play the way
they play, unless somebody falls off a major injury. Thompson
(01:24:16):
is gonna be a free agent a couple of years.
There's gonna be that decision if they're gonna want to
pay And and I've just said the argument that that's
it's a long six years is a long time. I
even think three years, three and that's so that would
be an addition. You would think that there would be
a nine year run almost No, another three years, another
three years, that's so to be a total of six No, no, no, no,
(01:24:39):
not that long. I I agree with you there, but
three more years in the current state with Durant say
says and signs on and the players that they have,
I don't know who can beat them. We saw Lebron
James put together scoring a triple double, the first player
in the history of the NBA Finals right and had
no shot to win it and eight championship. Is Lebron
(01:25:01):
gonna get better or worse here? He's likely going to
get worse because he's older, So I just I don't
see how Lebron Lebron wins another championship. I told you
that I think it's done, and I think the Warriors
have a great shot to win a couple more, and
and we mentioned this yesterday. I don't think that you're
gonna see Warriors calves for the fourth Street year. I
(01:25:24):
think there's too many variables when you're talking about another
three year run by the Warriors. Even I mean maybe
the Gordon Hayward to Boston, if it ends up happening,
isn't a big deal. Right now, we have analyzed Danny
aingels moves in Boston or the lack thereof of with
those draft picks. Some have been critical, some have have
(01:25:45):
praised any age. I am on the side of praising
him with patients because at some point the Cavalier's run
is going to end, and it may be after next season.
As I think both you and I feel that Lebron
leaves Cleveland after season. So now we're starting to throw
out very ables. And if Cleveland ends up losing, maybe
it's one losing Lebron, it's one less competitor that the
Warriors have to deal with. But then Lebron would go
(01:26:08):
to another team. There's also the future, as I mentioned
of Clay Thompson in a couple of years of his
free agency. There's also the future of Steve Kerr. Okay,
and how long Steve Kerr is gonna be coaching? Is
his health going to become a factor that would change quitting?
You never know. Yeah. So there, it doesn't seem like
they they and I hate to say it, that Steve
Kerr really matters in the big equation with those players
(01:26:30):
what they have. I mean, we saw him miss a
big chunk last year. They set the record for most
wins right without him there? Could they win without Steve Kerr? Absolutely?
What I think, and and this may not be fair,
but this is my opinion. I think it's different running
through a regular season like Luke Walton did in having
(01:26:51):
to go in in face teams like Sacramento. Are going
to face teams like Charlotte Orlando and knocking those teams
off with Luke Walton or what would be now Mike
Brown's head coach, I think those are different. I think
those are different situations. And I think that the way
that the playoffs set up this year, which by the way,
we've seen ratings awful for the not good for the
(01:27:11):
NBA Playoffs because of just how how little drama there
was with what we've got in the Western Conference because
there was no challenge. We don't really know if Steve
Kerr was missed, you know, like because of the competition,
there's such a little there's such a lack of competition,
you don't know that if it really matters about to
coach b And I agree with you because they would
(01:27:33):
twelve and oh that it's well and because they have
not been twelve and oh without Steve Kerr on the bench,
I I don't know. I'm not convinced that it's not
the case. And so the point now of and this
all goes back to Gordon Heyward, and it goes back
to other guys as well, and how free agency and
how things are gonna shaped up. It shape up. It's
how these other teams are in position to put themselves
(01:27:54):
when a crack occurs or when an opening occurs. And
that's what I think you're looking at. And that's why
it's horton for Utah to have Gordon Hayward because guess what,
maybe something does go wrong Boston Celtics are also in
that spot. We're just waiting for Lebron to leave. It'd
be important for them to get Gordon Hayward. That's why
those pieces and and I've said that it's crazy to
think that a top twenty guy only in the NBA
(01:28:16):
is drawing this much interest, But that's what we're waiting for,
and that's what these teams are banking on. It's amazing
there how much of the Lakers are are in the conversation.
I mean, whether it be with George Hill, whether it
be with Jamal Crawford and of course Paul George next year,
but all of these teams trying to position in case
what happens, or in case what you think doesn't happen,
and that the Warriors continue to brain for three years.
I agree. I think this will be like it's not
(01:28:38):
about now, it's about the future. So we'll have to
unfortunately wait and see where where where that factors in
and and what moves they make to try to be
ready when that opening uh happen. I am about to
ignite a firecracker, that is Rob Parker. Jason Dylan tweets
in Katie can opt out next season and negotiate a
(01:28:59):
bigger deal with Golden State. That's smart business. No, it's not, Jason,
it's not smart that he should make fifteen million less
as the reigning m v P of the NBA Finals
and Steph Curry. I don't care what Steph's other deal was.
He's one of the top two or three players in
the league and she'd be paid accordingly. Stop it. I
(01:29:20):
don't want to hear about a sneaker deal. I don't
want to hear about any other outside interest. He should
be paid his full value. He's selling himself short. Let's
Steph take a pay cut to Steph need forty million
dollars a year. Outrageous, outrageous. I never want to be
in anybody's pocket. But again, if you're wondering if Steph
(01:29:42):
Curry has enough money, Steph Curry has a water endorsement deal.
That's all you need to know when it comes to
endorsements in the NBA. He's Rob Parker. I'm Dan Buyer.
I'll love to hear the feedback on Twitter. You can
get me at Dan Buyer on Fox? Where can they
get you at Rob at Rob Parker FS one The
saga with Gordon Hayward continues, Plus, is Peyton Manning a cheater?
(01:30:04):
We continue that conversation next here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Rob Parker. I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports
Radio on this Independence Day, Happy four the July fireworks
in the Bronx today. We'll get to that in a sect,
but I want to bring this up because he was
a topic we touched on earlier, and it's almost twenty
years since this happened, but we're now finding out about it.
(01:30:27):
Tark Glenn, a former Colts lyman, said that they used
hearing aids when Peyton Manning was a rookie in Indianapolis because,
as Glen told the Indianapolis Star, Manning had such difficulty
dealing with silent counts that they needed to figure out
a way to make things work when he was under center.
So they used hearing aids so the crowd would be
muffled out, but they would still be able to hear
Manning call because he couldn't do the silent counts correctly.
(01:30:50):
Is Peyton Manning a cheater? Hot take Rob? Yes, if
he was using the hearing aid that he wasn't supposed to,
And I think is even some other stories it just
came over to wire that they also used some walkers
as well during that time. The linemen that probably helped
to make right protect Manning with a couple of walkers
(01:31:10):
as well. Uh, they came onto the field with one
of those scooters that move up the ramp. Believe that
that will make it easier for you. But but, but,
but the difference is here is that, of course it
happened years ago. Peyton wasn't winning anything, so people don't
look at it the same way now I have Peyton
won a super Bowl. During that time, people would didn't
question about how it went out. They were three and
(01:31:34):
that's what there you go. That's what I'm saying, And
it wasn't anything of I I don't know if this
is fair, this is right, but this is my feeling.
There's a difference between competitive edge and a difference between survival. Okay,
and so the cults during that time, and Jim Morrow
is the head coach, we're dealing with surviving. They were
(01:31:55):
three and thirteen. They had a rookie quarterback who was
still trying to learn things. So you figure out ways
to just survive, but getting an edge and somewhere else
when you're trying to win a title is also differently
so when you're looking at and I said, the flake
a to me isn't as big of a deal as
you think it is. But I think that there are
two different scenarios in what was the goal and what
(01:32:17):
was the intent? The Colts weren't running up and down
the field against teams they won three games that year.
They were just trying to survive the season and having
the rickey quarterback staying on his feet. I'll say this though,
if you steal five dollars from your grandmother's purse or
you rob a bank and take ten million dollars, what
(01:32:38):
are you dan in both cases? Hey, I don't. I
don't think that they are the the same. You're you
know you're a thief. I don't think you know you're
a thief. Either way, five dollars from your grandmother's purse
or ten million dollars from a bank, You're a thief.
Either you cheat or you don't cheat, no other is
(01:33:00):
no middle ground. Holding granny up for a Lincoln, Okay,
you can't walk in at a bank and take ten
million dollars. You're sief. You're not a thief if you
take five dollars from your grandmother's perse when you're a kid,
Are you a thief? I think that the way that
you go about it would be much different than yes
or no. If you take five dollars from your grandmother's
(01:33:21):
perst without asking them, no, no, not no, you're not
not a thief. I'll tell you what. You're a thief,
but not a dangerous thief. How about that. But they
didn't hurt anybody in the bank when they took the
ten million. They just said no, they just had a gun.
They handed a note. Oh yeah, oh sure, sure, here's
a note that'll yeah, that'll give me ten million dollars.
(01:33:43):
Prob just they're they're different and to survive is what
the cults were trying to do. Cheating is cheating. Either
you cheat or you don't cheat. It's so simple. Either
you're pregnant or you're not pregnant. There's no middle ground.
You're not a little pregnant. It doesn't work on every
single scenario. Okay, it's only you've got to you've got
to make sure that they're apples and apples. Okay, that's
(01:34:06):
the difference. This is there were two goals in mind. Okay,
maybe to get five dollars you wanted to go get
a bag of plane ruffles like you love so much.
You wouldn't rob a bank to get a ten million
dollars worth of plane ruffles. That's not going to happen. Jeez,
you're zero to a hundred. That's what I used with
my wife a lot. She loves to be zero to
(01:34:28):
a hundred, like it's it's it's there, or it's there,
it's it's it's all the way, and you love zero
to a hundred. That's that sounds like she sounds like
a small woman to me. He's Rob Parker, I'm Dan Buyer.
You can reach us on Twitter, just like I'm the
Delo Has. I'm at Dan buy around Fox and Rob's
at Rob Parker FS one And talking about Kevin Durant
(01:34:48):
and taking less money, he said, making less money is
worth it to me if I'm winning a lot of
games and enjoy who I work with every day. Maybe
he just likes working with Andrea Dolla. Well why, well,
why doesn't the owner want to win and continue to
win and give up some of his money? Then? Right
this it's it's nonsensical. It makes no sense. He could
(01:35:09):
say whatever he wants, but it's dumb because he's the
only one doing it. Steph Curry took the forty million.
Oh we want to keep the team together. Wait a minute,
I don't need forty I got to deal with under
armour all this other stuff. Why why does he have
to be that guy And he's one of the best
players and makes no sense and people can say, oh,
he's a great guy. I think he's not smart to
(01:35:32):
be the guy to take less money. Take what you're worth,
because not only does he hurt himself, he hurts other
people by setting a bad precedent. That's you want to
talk about a good teammate. No, a Rod wanted less,
gonna take I'll go to Boston. I think less money.
The union said no, you can't do it. I get
(01:35:54):
what you're trying to do, but that's gonna hurt everybody
else because every under owner is gonna ask other people
to take pay cuts to make moves. No, it's not
happening when not opening that can of worms. And that's
what Durant doesn't understand. He thinks he's hoping his team,
he's hurting the rest of the league and the rest
of the player It seems like this could be just
(01:36:14):
a simple A plus B equals see equation. But there's
a D element somewhere that is making things a lot
more more complicated. And you're right the the I want
to be here, I want this guy here. This is
how it's going to work. Isn't that can still happen
if the variable of D, meaning the ownership and Joe
(01:36:36):
la Cub ends up doing their part of the deal.
A plus B can also equal D if he ends
up doing it. Who paid the highest luxury attacks in
the NBA? The Cleveland Cavaliers, right, Dan Gilbert, Lebron put
together team, He signed Thompson, he signed j. R. Smith, right,
and they just ate it. He paid it. He didn't
ask Lebron to take it less money. Dan Gilbert paid it,
(01:36:57):
but they asked why they're asking Kevin Durant to take
lesson that the owners can get off the hook for
twenty million. I don't understand. I would have if I
was at his agent, I would have said, go look
at what they did in Cleveland. They made it work.
You know why the owner was willing to play to
the luxury tax. Make the owner pay the luxury tax.
Shade sweets, and of course it's stealing if you take
that five dollars from Granny. Where do you draw the line.
(01:37:19):
I draw the line when I don't need a gun
to get money. Okay, that's where I draw the line. Okay,
that's what you are. You still stealing regardless gonna no gun,
You're you're a thief. If if there are different there
are different consequences, if no one else is in danger, okay,
of of losing much more than a five dollar bill,
I think that they're different justifying stealing five bucks. Trevor
(01:37:42):
is in Portland. Welcome to Fox Sports Radio, Trevor, Happy fourth. Thanks, Um.
I wanted to talk NBA free agency. I think Minnesota
is probably the most improved team in the Web so far,
and I think Memphis is probably out letting Zach Randolph
go to Sacramento. I like Sacramento with Randolphin, George Hill.
I really think my Blazers are going to be improved
(01:38:04):
with having uh Nurkics for a full season after having
uh half the season last year to Joe with Lillard Um.
I also think Utah is gonna be out without Hayward.
I don't like Rubio. He never led the Wolves to
the playoffs. Um. I don't think that was a good
move on the Jazz part. Um. I like uh, Oklahoma City, Portland,
(01:38:24):
Minnesota and Denver or the Clippers to get in as
the eighth spot out of Okay. But but, but, Trevor,
the only question for you is that has it changed?
Are the Warriors not going to the NBA Finals out
of the West? No, the Warriors are still the top team.
The top four teams are still pretty much the same,
except I think Houston is probably gonna be the number
(01:38:45):
two team over San Antonio with Chris Paul and I'll
believe that when I see it. I'll believe that when
I see it. They've got two guys now who need
the ball. I don't know if that's gonna work in here, Trevor.
What do you think about the Pelicans, the Lakers, and
the Denver Nuggets. They haven't done anything in the off
season except for Denver with Millsap and especially if they
(01:39:07):
trade Gallinari to Sack to the Clippers, I don't think
they're going to have the supporting cast around mill Sap.
With as strong as the West is to get them
into the playoffs, it's gonna be real close between them
and the Clippers. I think for the eight playoff spot
in the West. Trevor, you are on a roll. Let's
jump to the East. Your thoughts on the Charlotte Hornets, Trevor,
(01:39:27):
Charlotte's off season so far. I like Charlotte with Dwight Howard.
I think they're going to be slightly improved. But again
I Orlando Magic. Trevor. Your thoughts on the Orlando Magic
in their off season? They haven't done much. I don't
see them as a playoff team, Trevor, is a point.
I thought we could throw them off with just naming
(01:39:48):
NBA teams. Trevor, Rob sitting here shaking his head. You
know what, I wish you didn't hang up. I was
going to ask him. I was going to ask him
how the spirit of St. Louis I'm gonna do. John
wanted to know about the Kentucky recruiting class that was
coming in for John Calafari. Wow, you could just throw
anything at Trevor and he was nailing. You know. It
(01:40:09):
was crazy too, was he? He also knew how well
do you know Washington Generals did with some of the
pickups like that? Would you would you bet on any
line that had the Washington General's minus anything ever, Now,
that would be that would be amazing, That would be
a bet that you you will never ever see. He's
Rob Barker. I'm Dan Buyer, having fun here on Fox
(01:40:31):
Sports Radio on this fourth of July. I'll tell you
what being a thief there are different levels, Rob Parker. Okay,
five dollars and ten million from a bank are a
whole lot different than just still still a thief. Coming
up next to the Dug gott Leap Show, the Miami
Heat have made a major major move today with one
(01:40:51):
of their best all time players. We talked about it next.
He's Rob Parker, I'm Dan Buyer. Aaron Judges at it again.
We'll get to that in about fifteen minutes. Eric Thames
has also added again for the Milwaukee Brewers. Hey Rob Parker.
It's been an interesting day as we are still waiting
(01:41:13):
to hear about the latest from Gordon Hayward. Reports about
three hours ago said that he was going to head
to the Boston Celtics, and then there was a lot
of walking back from reports, not from the initial report,
and there were multiple reports ESPN USA today saying that
Heyward was picking the Celtics. But then there was some
easy um, some uneasiness. The Jazz released a statement through
their president, Steve Starks, Hayward's agent, actually telling reporters that
(01:41:36):
they don't even know if they're gonna make a decision today.
So that's where we are with the Gordon Hayward situation.
To get us caught up to date on what happened
or what is happening elsewhere in the world of sports,
it's time for the press, the press, and Ralph Iervan
is here to give us the headlines of the day
and stuff that we may have missed. And that's been
going on on this Independence Day. Hey, Ralph, welcome back, well,
(01:41:59):
thank you. And the Miami Heat have officially waived Chris Bosh,
but in doing so, they also said that no other
player is ever gonna wear the number one in Miami.
Chris Bosh done. We knew that was going to happen
when team doctors wouldn't clear him at some point. Is
this a Riley saving face sort of deal? It has
(01:42:22):
to be. I just don't the way that Chris Boss
has been treated down They had a Dwyane Wade situation
and now he's trying to make him he wouldtire Michael
Jordan's number down in in Uh, Miami, I don't get
the uh. They won two championships with Chris Bosh and
that whole squad really is at the end of the
world that we need to retire Chris Bosh's number. Eighteen
(01:42:43):
points a game, seven point three rebounds a game, only
three seasons in Miami, he played sixty or more games.
Just just I don't get it. The Miami Heat when
you mentioned the Jordan retirement, their decision on retiring numbers,
he thought it was like pat Ronie was saying, it
was like Jackie Robinson with baseball retired his number, you know,
(01:43:07):
across the league, but only Miami did it. Nobody else.
You don't look at Jackie robin as great as Michael
Jordan is. To have his number retired in Miami's ridiculous.
And now to retire Chris Bosch's number. Don't get my thoughts.
When I heard that they were retiring Chris bosh number one, Yeah,
that's that's what it was. But the Miami Heat, I
(01:43:29):
will say this, I'm interested to see on how many
other teams would be willing or to have their doctors
willing to pass Chris Bosh through a physical to have
him play again. I think it's interesting because the heat
also designated it as it was a life threatening situation,
so he wasn't gonna be cleared. If another team clears him,
(01:43:51):
I think that is gonna be I think teams would
be afraid to clear him and be responsible. I just
think it just hasn't played in a long time, and
I don't I don't see that scenario al right. Next up, Yeah,
and we're gonna tell you because Darrell Rivas, he's preparing
(01:44:11):
for an NFL season despite the fact that nobody seems
to want him. He has a six million dollar guarantee
on his contract, so if he was to get a job,
he'd probably be playing for free. So okay, so that
could be like some of the offset language with what
Darrell Rivas has. There's there's no reason to play if
(01:44:33):
you don't have to play. The fact is is would
Rivas play in? Is the question? Because this if he
doesn't play this year, he's done. I I don't see
you see any comeback coming. Maybe there's a team that's
looking for up at some point, but the fact is
is you're not gonna play. You're just gonna take the money, dude,
Take the money and run. Go to the other way.
(01:44:53):
Are you crazy? Just dude, you played a long time.
You want a super Bowl? You had an impact? Right,
just stop, take take the money and get out. Here's
the other deal. If if a team, let's say there's
an injury in the secondary and at cornerback, I don't
even know if you're going to rev Us to replace,
I think you'd still want to the the talk of
(01:45:14):
him and moving to the safety position. If you're going
to need a safety to replace him, I don't I
think you'd rather just go with a young guy, right,
I mean, especially if you're trying to replace the safety,
and if you're trying to replace a corner you probably
wouldn't want to put droll Revs in that spot. Anyway,
Speaking of taking the money and run, that's what Jamal
Crawford would like to do. If he has traded to
(01:45:35):
the Atlanta Hawks. He says he will seek a buy out,
even if it might cost him a lot of money,
so that he can choose where he ends up. I've
always liked Jamal Crawford play played in Michigan, right and
uh A year, right all year. But he also he's
made a he's made one of those guys who made
a move and being off the bench and a really
(01:45:57):
good player, He's had an outstanding career here, even if
if not always as a starter. You know what I
mean by being able to accept a role and playing
that role to a tea. I like that. I like
what he's done with his career, and I hear him.
Who wants to go to Atlanta anyway. Among the possible
landing spots would be the Warriors or the Lakers. The
Lakers are interesting because you could just stay in town.
(01:46:20):
He obviously doesn't want anything to do with the Hawks.
Is Ralph mentioned, but the fact is is hey to
add scoring for a team that is not gonna have
Nicki Young back. I would rather have Jabal Crawford in
that backcourt. And with all of the talk of of
the guys that they had thought to bring thought to
bring in, George Hill isn't an option anymore because he's
on his way to Sacramento. Sim felt that maybe he
(01:46:40):
could could take care of Lonzo Ball. Yeah, with the
Aaron Fox there now too, So you've got those two
guys battling for the point, but the Lakers, he thought, Okay,
maybe George Hill would have some influence on the Lakers.
Rajan Rondo's name has been connected with the Lakers as well,
also being a guy who can help Lonzo ball transition
to the NBA. Jamal Crawford would be perfect that position
(01:47:01):
and also likely give you about sixteen eighteen points per
game if you wanted defense and other things. Okay, maybe
that's a little to be desired, but the fact is
that he would have a role where it would be
much more than just putting up eighteen points a game. Mavis.
With the Lakers. When I think of Sacramento, I think
of NBA Siberia. That's basically where you've been sent. They've
(01:47:21):
been some good Jack Randolph there. Now George Hill, you've
got the Aaron fox Um, Dave Yeager the coach. It
seems why and you'll get you on the subway in
New York. But if you steal it, you're a thief. Okay.
Ralph's final story alright, our final story is on its face,
(01:47:42):
doesn't sound too weird. Las Vegas fifty ones minor league
baseball player was injured and put on the disabled list
because he was robbed by a homeless person. What makes
it unusual is that it didn't happen in Las Vegas,
but while they were on the road in Salt Lake City. Huh,
that Rob Parker is a thief. So now, wait a minute,
(01:48:02):
the guy robbed him. That is a thief with the
taking five dollars from your grandma. But white min this
guy is a thief. What did he what did he
stick a krusty bread crumb into his back? Okay? He
hit him in the head with a tire iron? Is
that is that? He also had a sock full of rocks?
(01:48:23):
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, so so so he went.
The homeless guy went into his car, took the tire
iron from his car, and no, we don't like that.
I can tell you the moment this story did not
become funny anymore. And that was after Ralph said iron.
So that's in the head of a tire iron? Is he? Okay?
(01:48:44):
Lookan Taylor had a concussion and had to have staples
put in the back of his Oh goodness, I actually
when Ralph said that he was a Las Vegas what
the I? I assumed that it was in Las Vegas,
but no, in Salt Lake City, in Salt Lake City day,
Rob people. Yeah, they also they also shot Footloose just
(01:49:06):
south of Salt Lake City. Get out there in press,
the press. Did you know that? Did you know that
they shot foot loose? No? I did not. If you
look at especially in the chicken scene when they're going
head to head in tractors, you see mountains and then
you realize, oh, this can't be Indiana or Illinois because
both states are ridiculously flat. Illinois would be Kansas if
it wasn't for Chicago. By the way, okay, talk about
(01:49:29):
a boring drive states. I know I've said it here,
but if you're driving through Illinois, it is nothing but flat.
Rob Parker is now dancing to foot Loose here on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, get it going, Get it going.
By the way, arguably this is the worst song on
the soundtrack. Okay, yeah, well maybe maybe Let's Here for
(01:49:49):
the Boy is one that I am not a big
fan of. But trust me, Frances, when you actually listen
to the whole soundtrack, you're thinking, why am I listening
to footlooseing in he's Rob Parker, I'm Dan Buyer. Aaron
Judge did something today that only Aaron Judge can do
that's coming up next year. On Fox Sports Radio, He's
(01:50:12):
Rob Parker, I'm Dan buy are glad to have you
with us here on Fox Sports Radio. And for Doug
Gottlieb today, Yes, this uh from the Footloose soundtrack again
said that when you actually listen to the album, it's
probably Footloose is probably the worst song on it. There's
nothing like I'm Free, you know from Kenny Loggins. Then
of course never or as we all like to know
(01:50:34):
it never never never never, never never never. I love
this this, all of these, all of these songs are great.
It's just a great soundtrack and it's a perfect thing
to listen to on this fourth of July. We still
don't know what's happening with Gordon Hayward. Okay, I'm gonna
just quick try to summarize it before we tell you
(01:50:54):
what Aaron Judge did today, which was magnificent. Okay. The
Gordonayward situation was this. We heard he was going to
the Celtics at about two thirty Eastern time, a report
from ESPN. Then we started to hear hold on a minute,
his agent came out and said, no decision has been made.
A decision may not even be made today. After meeting
with the Celtics, Jazz and Heats over the past three days,
(01:51:18):
then the Utah Jazz released a statement saying they continued
to have communication with Gordon Hayward. With all of this information,
that's still no official decision or announcement made by anyone.
Rob Parker still feels Gordon Hayward is destined to be
wearing the white and green of the Boston Celtics. Absolutely.
I just think that these feeling a little bad that
(01:51:38):
he didn't the news got out before he was able
to tell Utah he was leaving, and he'll hold up
for another night and then say, slept on it, thought
about it, went back and forth. Hey, I changed my
mind a couple of times, but ultimately I'm going back.
I'm going to Boston. That that's how it's gonna play out.
Holding Polonies joined us earlier on the show to talk
NBA and John Morosi talked Major League Baseball with us,
(01:52:00):
and when we were talking with John, we talked about
how baseball, in my mind, Rob an unexpected turn of
how the future of baseball is viewed at and that's
a positive with what you've got so far with Major
League Baseball, and it's on the shoulders of the young
stars like Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge. John Morrossi from
earlier on the program here on Fox Sports Radio, we
(01:52:23):
talked about this a couple of weeks ago about on
board to this for Baseball to get these uh, really
primetime young players out there in front of the entire
country and really the world as well during All Star weeks,
because this becomes that you guys both know, uh doing
the radio show, this is really the week of the
year when Baseball has a near monopoly on the whole
(01:52:43):
sports conversation. And Rob's gonna be in Miami for the
All Star Game next week, taking in the game which
is a week from today on Fox and also the
Home Run derbut which comes up on Monday, and it
should be a great spectacle. I think that there's a
different feel about the All Star Game this year. I
think there's a different vibe and it's all positive. I agree,
And I think it's gonna be musty TV Monday night
(01:53:04):
because you've got a couple of really big stars and
you know what, people they've heard of Aaron Judge and
Cody Bellinger and stuff. But I think here's a chance
where you get to sit back, you know, on on
a Monday, nothing going on in the whole country. This
is it. This is your big and you'll be able
to watch. And the Home Monday Derby has has rated
very well for Major League Baseball and for ESPN. It's
(01:53:27):
a big deal. It's almost as big as as the
All Star Get well. The Yankees lost today to fall
three and a half games back of the Red Sox
for first place in the American League East. But even
in the Yankees loss, Aaron Judge remains the story swung
on at it ripped a deep left side of fields,
head of the wall. Yes, all rise, here comes a judge.
(01:53:50):
Aaron Judge powers went out and left center and the
Yankees trail four one. Okay, what is that? Is that?
The judge with the hand? That's just gavel you Yankees
Radio network? By the way, John Sterling there, who should
listen to as a kid? Uh do a talk show
(01:54:10):
in New York the old w m C A. But
but that was you. They should add that, the Yankee
should add that. I like that. Yeah, I'm gonna send
that back to them network. See what they want to do.
Is Susan Waldman's drink holder has moved aside, So John
Sterling should have a gabble when he bangs the gavel
when Aeron's judge Eron Judge, Homer's not not you would
think like, okay, another home run for Aaron Judge. It's
(01:54:32):
number twenty eight on the season o. The rookie record
is forty nine, right by Mark McGuire. And here we
are not even at the all store break yet he's
got twenty eight. He's in great position to break that
smashed that all time record for rookie. What you didn't
know from that home run is that Aaron Judges home
(01:54:52):
run dented a metal casement that was in the left
center field wall of Yankee Stadium. Okay, And this is
this is where it becomes very entertaining because Aaron Judge,
when you're watching him in batting practice where he apparently
broke a TV at Yankee Stadium, now he's sitting there
denting metal casements that are in left center field and
(01:55:14):
doing damage to Yankee Stadium. This home run today was
the fourth hardest hit baseball this season. The other three okay,
we're hit by Aaron Judge. This one at one eighteen
point four miles per hour. This is what He's a
special kid. And I know a lot of guys have
come up and had had a great start to their
(01:55:35):
career and people want to put him in the Hall
of Fame after a month or two. But he but
he's different, Dan, He's really different. If you look at
his numbers, and he's leading in almost every category. Here
we are at the All Star break. He had Joe Girardi,
the manager, say he reminds him of Derek Jeter six
weeks into his you know, career, a rookie season with
(01:55:58):
the Yankees, and then the Yankees, who never do anything
for anybody, put up a section, you know, uh uh
in the stands called the judges Chamber where fans are
wearing black robes and and you know what I mean,
I just I've never seen anything like it. It tells
you about him. I think that there's different ways to
(01:56:18):
hit home runs as well. And when you say that
there's something different about the way that he hits home runs,
it's it's obviously different because he's hitting it harder than
everybody else. But that is what differentiates it from you know,
from it. Jose Bautista, when he started to hit home runs,
would get a lot of flak and people wanted to say, oh,
P E. D s are using some some sort of agent.
(01:56:40):
Jose Bautista would pull all of his home runs. That's
he wasn't a guy to spray it to right or center.
His home runs were going over left field, left field,
left field, left field. You know if you look at judge,
it's all over the field as many of the center
as to right field. And when you're hitting the ball
as you know, the opposite way with authority, you can't
hit the ball better. Actually, uh to hit it the
(01:57:02):
other way. It tells you. It tells you that your
swing is there. He's Rob Parker. I'm Dan Buyer sitting
in here on Fox Sports Radio. You can always hit
us up on Twitter after the show. I'm at Dan
Buyer on Fox. You can get Rob at Rob Parker
FS one. You think it's gonna be the Celtics, But
just tell me this before we wrap up. When does
the official announcement come down that Gordon Hayward has made
(01:57:23):
up as tomorrow the Utah Jazz will know they got hosed,
and the Miami Heat are just busy dealing with the
retirement of Chris Boss's jersey, and the jazz are gonna
be like your buddy who got dumped when the lady
ordered lobbs. There you go, unreal
