Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Sports Boom, What Up America, Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio coming to you live and direct from
the City of Angels, where we have a full slate
of NBA games, a potential elimination game in Major League Baseball,
and uh we only a couple of hours away, actually

(00:23):
an hour away from the a LCS in which started
out with Houston Astros to oh lead. Now it's a
two two series and a J Hinch is am I
gonna rip a j hinge the way I did Joe Madden.
I'll get to that upcoming, But a ton of things
to tackle. Let's let's start with the reaction to NBA's

(00:45):
opening night. Last night, you had the Celtics take it
on the Cavaliers in Cleveland. Of course, the nightcap was
the Golden State Warriors getting their rings and getting the
first l of the season. Shot went in but didn't count.
Kevin Durant, a shot at the buzzer, after the buzzer,
after the double, the triple zeros on the clock. Uh.
But we had two very competitive basketball games where ball

(01:09):
was in the air and at least one game could
have been tied on a three. The other one could
have been one had had the shot gone in before
the buzzer. So two competitive games in the NBA, But
the story that everybody's talking about is Gordon Hayward's injury.
Gordon Hayward signed a huge contract coming from the Utah
Jazz to play for his college coach Brad Stevens and

(01:33):
the team with the best record in the East and
the regular season last year, the Boston Celtics. I don't
know about you, but, like look, injuries happened in the NBA,
and even injuries like this have happened before. But to
happen in the first quarter for a player who just
goes to the Boston Celtics, who leaves behind everything he
knows and loves about the NBA and the Utah Jazz,

(01:55):
and that heartfelt letter on the player's tribune in the
first quarter that the game that everybody in the NBA
is watching, this happened. Tyrie lob looking for Gordon Heyward.
He grows it into traffic. It takes a funny bounce
all right to Jaylen Brown, who gets to the cup
and lays it in a Gordon Hayward is heard broke.
He like his lake is broke, to split this broke
Shopdon Hayward landed awkwardly. We have Celtics with their hands

(02:19):
on their head and in this season, a summer in
which everybody thought they knew what was going to happen,
everybody waiting for a wild card, and five minutes in
fifteen seconds into opening night as gruesome, a wild card,
as you can imagine, has just been dealt to the Celtics.
Stuff that's from the Celtics radio network. Shawn Grandy on

(02:41):
the call, and I think that was a cornbratt Maxwell
as well as the the analyst. Uh yeah it was.
It was gross. Now, look, there's a couple we've talked
about this before. Three types of people on Earth. Three types, right, um, No,
not Democrat, Republican, Independent, No, no, no, because we know
there's others. There's the type person I don't want to

(03:01):
see it. Don't show me, Just tell me what happened. Okay,
that's tough. I it. There's show it to me once.
I can catalog it in my memory bank. We'll just
see it once. Okay, I seed it. That's it. Or
there's oh show to me again, Oh show it to
me again. Oh hold on, send this to my buddy,

(03:23):
you gotta see this right, can't watch it enough? Sorry,
that's me, and that's not because I don't have the
human emotion of feeling bad for Gordon Hayward. I was
on set. I remember when Kevin Ware broke his leg
with Louisville. I was actually on a different TV set
when um Paul George broke his leg in Vegas. I

(03:45):
think the thing I'm most thankful for, maybe maybe most amazing,
is like, you see these guys injured, then you see
them playing basketball again, You're like, wow, science and medical
medical technology is pretty amazing. But obviously it it changes
the Celtics, it changes the East. Unlike Skip Bayliss, I
wasn't willing to tweet about it last night. In a well,

(04:07):
it's a walk for the for Lebron James speaking, it
is if it's a walk through the plass. There's plenty
of walking taking place with all the travels the Lebron
was was was guilty of upon further review, But a
day later we can catch our breath and not just
feel gross. Having watched that injury myself, I watched A
ten fifteen times. We realized the Celtics weren't gonna win

(04:27):
an NBA championship this year. Right, eleven new players out
of fifteen guys. They weren't winning NBA title this year.
They might have been competitive. For one, it stands the
reason that Brad Stevens would get them uh deep into
the NBA's Eastern Conference playoffs. That's fine, but I didn't
think they're winning it this year and their development or

(04:48):
their ability to win it's gonna be based upon those
young hybrid forwards Jalen Browns and Jayson Tanum. This might
sound crazy, like for Gordon Hayward, it's an injury. Paul
George spoke about this earlier to day. He said, look,
he's still not as explosive as it used to be
before he broke his lege. So for Gordon Hayward like that,
considering you were just coming into the prime of your

(05:08):
career to play with the Boss Celtics and stuff. For
this injury. The Celtics have had Len Bias, Reggie Lewis,
even Larry Bird's back going out on them. They've they've
had some I don't believe in curses except maybe with Cleveland, right,
I don't believe in curses, but with the exception of
of Cleveland pre Lebron or Cleveland non Lebron sports being cursed.

(05:30):
Not really, but they have had some Oh my gosh,
you're almost cursed like things for the Celtics. Things go
wrong too, lottery picks they don't get. Tim Duncan, I
could be crazy to think this. I think the Celtics
might actually benefit long term from it. Gordon Haywards a

(05:51):
tremendous player, and he eventually will be one of the
two focal points of the offense. But they're gonna need
Marcus Smart to be a bigger part of what they
want to do. They're gonna need Jason Tatum and Jalen
Brown to develop quickly on the fly, and like statistically,
both played well, especially Tatum in the second half. They

(06:11):
gotta their bodies had to fill out, They gotta become
grown men. They gotta learn to defense, play defense, rebound.
Jalen Brown missed a wide open three late in that game,
couldn't stop Lebron James, who did travel badly but jumped
when he shouldn't have jumped, trying to play defense. Bigger
thing is this long term if the if the finish
line for the Boston Celtics, or if the goal was, Hey,

(06:34):
we we want to be competitive this year. We want
to try and win it next year and the year
after that and the year after that year after that.
I'm a silver lining guy Brusum injury. We've seen Paul
George return and now we're going to see the development
of Jason Tatum and the development of Jason of Jalen
Brown being bigger focal points of this offense. Short term loss,

(06:58):
devastating injury happens in a national like there's lots of
TNT games that you don't pay attention to. The first
quarter of the first game, Lebron against the Celtics and
Kyrie going against his former team, You're paying attention. We
all saw it. We're all grossed out by it. We
all feel bad for Gordon Hayward. Long term might not
actually hurt the Celtics, might actually help him. And then

(07:22):
we have Major League Baseball. And I understand numbers, but
I believe, and if you guys can find it for me,
I believe. Oral Hersheiser said something, uh something to this
effect when he joined us. It wasn't or horse ship
was John Smoltz. John Smolts joined us last week and
I and uh and I asked him about about you know,

(07:46):
matchups and pictures and whatever, and he said that he
basically said, what what I'm gonna say in much more
interesting fashion, whatever happened to feel? What having to feel like?
You cannot teach feel not feels? Yeah, feels is like love, affection, lust, attention. Right,

(08:09):
you know the new song feels right? I like the song.
I like the song a lot, and I had to
you have to explain to people like what I feel.
I I'm I'm getting to the age where people have
to explain to me what things mean feels. I know
what they mean. I'm talking about feel sports. Feel. You
can't teach feel. One of the reasons that so many

(08:30):
of the managers in baseball are catchers is because in
order to be a catcher, you gotta have feel. You
gotta understand when do I go out to the mound,
when I not go out to the mound. I gotta
get a feel for is this guy peeking? Can he
here where I'm where I'm setting up the target? I
gotta have feel for when do I cycle through the pitches?

(08:53):
You gotta feel for what the picture has working. You
gotta relate that your feel. You have in a bullpen
session to your manager, right, Like the reason point guards
are good coaches is the same reason that catchers are
good managers because they have feel I thought a j
Hen slack field yesterday, not because he was he was

(09:14):
wrong in terms of the numbers. If you watch the
Yankees take on Lance mccolors, who had barely pitched, barely
pitched here in the fall um he had he hadn't
started in seventeen days. At least he's rested, right, hadn't
started seventeen days. They throw him out there? What we're

(09:34):
gonna get. Lance mccolors was dealing. He was dealing, and
when you got to the seventh inning, he had only
surrendered one hit one. He wasn't walking players, he wasn't
putting them on base. He was wheeling and dealing. And
Yankee Stadium was a vapid waste land of bitter fans

(09:58):
a matter of fact, online going into the seventh thing,
in the bottom of the seventh thinning, nine outs away
from taking a commanding three games to one lead, and
remember they still have Justin Verlander will throw out to
end this thing. That's the that's the sense, right, And
you have Dallas, Kaikel who's gonna go today for the Astros,
who has given the Yankees all kinds of trouble. You've

(10:19):
got Kaiko Verlander and a four nothing lead go ahead.
He'd given up one hit and he was at like
seventy pitches and then he gives up a ball. Uh.
He gives up a home run two Uh, Aaron judge
that still has yet to land. What's the line from
Major League? And then it travels that far and he's

(10:39):
a stewardess on it, and though that is that's what
that was, like, Oh oh, that's gone right. It was
a batting practice ball. Now it's fair to say, look statistically, statistically,
Lance mccolor's bad third time through a lineup opposing hitters

(11:03):
at three sixty eight against the Colors, after pitch seventy six,
and that was his seventy five pitch that was deposited
somewhere where the polo grounds used to be, which is
there's a freeway in between. That's how far statistically He's
not wrong, all right, but he gave up his second

(11:25):
hit of the night. He was only at eighty one
pitches when he got pulled, and I just think a
j Hinch lack Field. I know the numbers told you
get him the hell out of there, but everybody in
baseball knows they got a dicey bullpen at best. And
though he might have a J hint, here's a J

(11:46):
Hinch on the decision to pull the colors. Not a
great visual from my my side of the dugout. I'm
not sure how it was from the other side, but um,
you know, for us, we just couldn't get the ending
to end. We were trying to match up and get
and make pitches. They were putting really good at past
together and then even their outs, you know, they had
productive ounce or what if not only likes that term,
but but they they got ninety feet whenever they needed

(12:08):
to where there's a sack fly, whether it was Gardner's
groundball to second base. You know, I think there was
the key really in that inning is not not turning
Headley's ball into an out. Yeah, well, I mean that's
and Headley's ball into and out, and of course Headley
Chase Headley round's first base in Jose Altuve, who can
do no wrong. In a lot of people's eyes, Jose
Alva screwed it up, screwed up like no, No man

(12:32):
on in baseball is closer to second base physically than
Jose al tub He's five ft six on a good day,
like like he is. He's an oompa loompa. He's part
of the Lollipop Guild. And he caught it and he
couldn't tag out Chase Headley, who looked like he looked

(12:56):
like a beer leaguer on a Tuesday night softball rounding
first one of the least athletic plays you're ever going
to see from a professional athlete, and the Astros just
completely choked on an easy rundown, a basic play. But
I look, I understand that, you're like, holy hell, Aaron
Judge just hit that ball a mile. You're looking at
the numbers, Lance, The colors is bad once you get

(13:18):
past seventy pitch seventy five. I get it. But having
a little feel all rights for one because the second
U as manager freak out because Aaron Judge did what
Aaron Judge does when he hits the baseball. Now the
rest of your team, do you guys remember Ferris Spieler's
day off. They're turning coal into diamonds. He got tight,
they got tight. The Astros choked one inning away. That

(13:42):
game was over as soon as he made the pitching change,
and now the series is very much up in the air. Alright,
Drrell Davis is gonna join us up coming next, I'll
ask him who he thinks the best, who's the best
team in the a f C. What they'll happen to
the Broncos this past week. That's upcoming next. But first,

we are Farmers. Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio coming
to you from beautiful Los Angeles, California. Um, we got
a bunch of stuff to get to here anyway. Uh.

(15:27):
In one moment, will be joined by one of the
newest Football Hall of Famers, Terrell Davis will join. We'll
join the show. Weird weekend in the NFL right like
people have just completely and totally bailed on the Kansas
City Chiefs completely and totally bail like last weeks, like, oh, Kansay,
she's the best team in the NFL. And now you

(15:51):
can't you can't feel anybody thinking Kansay that she's so
good to a Super Bowl if they only have one
loss and I can't figure out who's the great team
in the n f C. Then you have the dever
Broncos who appeared to be seemingly unbeatable, unbeatable at home
and um then then then the the the excuse The
New York Giants come in without any of their first

(16:13):
three wide receivers, go back to the week before, and
and they beat him. Maybe Trulled Davis can can help
us out. The the Hall of Famer joins us here
on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Can you figure out? Like
that's a weird weekend? Let's just start with the Broncos.
Of course, um t d help me out what they'll happen?
Like giants, you would think would have no chance of

(16:35):
winning there, and yet without any of the top three
wide receivers, they do just that. UM, I wish I
had some some asses for you. But do you know
I think I can think of is you've got a
team in the Broncos who had to buy a week.
Of course, you're playing a team that's oh and five.

(16:56):
They've whole starting wide receiver cores out. Um, you don't
think they have much much of a chance of winning.
So and I've been in games where you just kind
of just you talking up as a win and you
just you could get to play the game. So I
think the Broncos kind of just took this for granted.
They thought that, you know, it was kind of an

(17:16):
easy win, and the Giants had had had other other plans,
and uh, you know from the opening drive, you can
tell that the Giants, you know, even though they were
down a lot of the key players, they they ran
the ball well, they control the line on the defensive
side against Denver's old line, and they were just made
a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes in service em and he's

(17:38):
a running game. Uh, because I have a running game,
he's not gonna be an accurate quarterback. And and they've
capitalized off that. So yeah, I mean it was a
weird thing for the m C West. And you think
about it, you know, you've got the Raiders losing at
home to the Chargers. You've got the Chiefs losing to
the Steels at home, and the Broncos losing to the
Giants at home. And remember a few weeks ago, we
thought that this was the best division of football, and uh,

(18:01):
it was just a strange week to see all those
teams lose at home. Really give teams that should Yeah,
what's what's crazy about it is, I actually think the
Chargers are pretty good. Uh you know they probably they
should have sent that Denver game to overtime if not
for the field goal. Uh they and they, you know
they look if they had a competent field goal kicker,
they had the rookie, same rookie missed a field goal.
The next week they lost to the to the Miami Dolphins.

(18:24):
You know, they win one of those games at three
and three, they win two of those. You know, they
had a couple, a couple of winnable games. Uh, you
end up four and two. It's a completely different story.
But yes, that that is the point. Let's help me
out with Trevor Simeon right, like there was he won
the job, but they wanted him to just hold it
over till Paxton Lynch was ready. Then they wanted to
have Packis Lynch to win the job this year. He

(18:45):
wasn't capable of it. So it feels like they've moved
on from Packiston Lynch. On the other hand, it doesn't
feel like Trevor Simeon in a game which he doesn't
have a running game and the defense lets him down.
It doesn't be like he can go out and win
you a game. I guess the question TD is ultimately
is he good enough? Is Trevor Simian good enough to
get the Broncos where they want to be? You know
what I mean? That's that's it's it's a great question.

(19:07):
But we've seen games where, um, he looked apart um.
You know, we've seen games with Trevor can throw the
three hundred yards, you know, you know, but but he
also has some some passes that are a little suspect,
and I think for him, he certainly needs a run game.
He needs to have the ability to do play action
pass to be mobile and to have something that's working.

(19:29):
If you're asking him to stand back there to the ball,
uh to beat you with with his arm. I think
he's he's gonna make some mistakes, you know, um and
watching film against the Giants game, you know, a few
few throws where he missing receivers that were open. He
was thrown off off you know, basically a platform where
he's throwing off at the back foot kind of kind
of falling away from the throws and and things like that.

(19:51):
The mechanics he you know, he has to clean up,
but I think that's certainly a product of him not
having the ability to use flashing paths and to be mobile.
You go back to that. Mean, you remember two years
ago they brought in Mark Santazz to really they thought
Mark Fantazz would have been the one to win the
job over him and packed the lunch. But Trevor won that.
He won that and in this year a game as
you you mentioned, Yeah, I think they were hoping that

(20:12):
Paxton would take this step to be dot Trevor. But
Trevor has shown some signs and people in Denver, you
talked to some of the players there. They believe that
he's got some of the ability. And I'm not calling
him Peyton Manning, I'm not saying that whatsoever, but just
from the neck up, they said that the man is smart.
He's a quarterback that can process things, and they know
that he's he's his talent is good enough to win games. Now,

(20:35):
you know, with that said, he still needs a supporting
cast to really help his ability. Um and we'll see
if that's if he's consistent with that this week. I mean,
they do play the Chargers, we'll see if we can
bounce back. But the game they played against Giants, man,
that was just that wasn't a good game on anybody's part. No,
it wasn't. And and here's the thing I think people forget.
You're telling if I'm wrong to take it this way.

(20:56):
Payment is a great player, right, first ballot Hall of
Fame or no question, But when Peyton Manning won a
Super Bowl with Denver Broncos, he wasn't anything that you
remember in terms of Peyton Manning right like, his arm
was shot. Nine touchdowns, seventeen interception even in the Super
Bowl Pay Manning really it was a return game. It
was the defense and just you know, just doing enough
handing the ball off and occasionally hitting somebody who's upen

(21:18):
he was. He was subpar even by even by that
year's Peyton Manning standards. So the point is that if
if that Peyton Manning can win a Super Bowl, um,
there's no reason that if the defense isn't dominant enough
or it isn't dominant, and if they have the they
have a running game, that they can't be competitive at
the top level of the a f C. That's kind
of what you're saying, right, not that he has to

(21:39):
be Peyton Manning prime Peyton Manning. If he's better than
Peyton Manning last year of Peyton Manning's run. Yes, and
that's exactly what it is. You know, speaking with John
and just having his experience, Um, John, you know, he
knows what a good quarterback can do and you know
the flexibility of m a top tier quarter back. But

(21:59):
he also knows that in this day and age, you
can win championships with having a guy who just doesn't
put the team in a bad position. You know, don't
throw picks when you inside the red zone, be smart
about it, a punt, it's not it's not a bad play,
and just give the team a chance. And if you
have that, you're gonna win more games than not. And
I think that's sort of John's philosophy. You'll try to

(22:22):
get a running game, get the quarterback who's smart, who
just knows that, hey, if we're in the red zone,
we can't turn the ball over. We gotta get some
points there. And then he didn't didn't have a dominant defense.
That formula has worked and we've seen it works. So yeah,
they're not saying that, you know, Hey, we're not saying
Trevor needs to be uh Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady,
but he's gotta and he's got to display some ability

(22:45):
at some time when he might be asked to throw
the ball just to have it for that period. You
don't think he consistently doing that, but when we ask
you to take us on a two minute offense, you've
got to be capable of doing that. And that's really
about it. All right, tell me about this video going
big for football season's M series smart cast display. Hey man, listen, brother,

(23:09):
you know Busio is going big this football season. Dog.
I know you like three TVs? I know, do ye?
So anytime there's a forty player more that results in
a touchdown, Busio wi reward one lucky fan with a
big M series smart cast to display. And really, all
you have to do is go to busio dot com
forward slash Big Plays to enter the win. Is that simple?
You know? I think the last couple of weeks we've

(23:30):
seen big plays happen all the time, so they're giving
away you know, TVs every single week. But you've got
to go ahead and sign up and again busio dot
com forward slash Big Plays to enter. It is that simple.
How many times have you worn the jacket outside of
like events, like you wearing around the house, h Like,
how many times do you warn that Hall of Fame jacket?

(23:53):
I've warned a lot. Man, I've worn this one out.
I probably need to get another one because this one is, uh,
it's got some I I was on it, you know
what I mean, good man, I had I would do
it too. It's like, like, why why not? Like right? You?
Like you wait all of that time you should have
been in a long time ago. You finally get in there,
wear that jacket. I'd wear it around the house when
I'm like on Sunday, wake up. You know. Your wife's like, hey, honey,

(24:16):
why don't you can you do the dishes? I'm a
Hall of Famer. You have just me the Hall of Famer.
We're just wear it everywhere. Let me let me tell
you that Hall of Fame line that only lasted a week. Okay.
My wife gave me a week before, you know, before
she was like, all right, enough for the Hall of
Fame stuff. And I get out there and you know,
I got changed some diapers. You gotta take your kids
to school. You gotta do all the stuff that a
dad that a dad does. Now you can't just start

(24:37):
dropping the Hall of Fame line anymore. So it worked
full a week. I took my weekend, I took. I
took full advantage for that one week. Now that was
back to real. Okay, if you still wear the jacket
when you drop the kids off at school while you're
changing the diapers. Busio dot com slash big plays. Anytime
play a forty or more yards results in a touchdown,
somebody's gonna win themselves a fifty in tv TV. Thanks

(24:57):
for joining us and congrats again on the Hall of Fame.
It's Truelle Davis who looks better, sounds better, and uh
still probably runs better than all the rest of us.
That's just that's just not fair. That's just not fair
that NFL discussions brought you by True Car. Find out
what other people in the area paid for the same
car you're looking for new, or use visit Drew Card
to enjoying more confident car buying experience. Here's what I found.

(25:18):
Let's bring in Dan Buyer. We'll get updated on what
else is going on. League meetings taking place in the
NFL and the Major League Baseball stuff on him to
update us on. But isn't it crazy Dan on how
people do those power rankings which are kind of meaningless.
And I was like, look, it's great, the kan City
is fine. They're just like best available. But they're not good.
They're not They're not not They're not great. I'm not.

(25:39):
But they lose one game at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who, uh,
you know, kind of had some dysfunction the week before,
and suddenly everybody's bailing on them and there's no real
other team that you point to that's absolutely better this
thus far in the Kancity Jeeves. Yeah, and you can't
use New England as the cop out for the a
f C just because their defense is can you you

(26:00):
in Lee horrendous? It just is awful. Yeah, there's it's
so up in the air. I thought, I don't know
if the Steelers defense was that good Sunday against the
Chiefs or it was the Chiefs missing targets because of injuries.
But uh, that's what we've got in the NFL. Maybe
the rule, quickly, Doug, is that we don't know really
about teams until November. And remember what you said it
was October. Maybe now it's gonna be November. Speaking of

(26:23):
the NFL owners today wrapped up their fall meeting in
New York. No change to the league's policy on the
national anthem. We believe everyone should stand for the national anthem.
That's an important part of our policy. It's also an
important part of our game that we all take great
pride in. And it's also important for us to hon
our flag and to our country, and we think our
fans expect us to do that. And that was NFL

(26:44):
commission or Roger Goodell earlier today. Now the Brons are
gonna have rookie quarterback to Shaun Kais. You're starting in
Week seven against the Titans. Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston limited
a practice today because of a sprained a C joint
to his shoulder. Will Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will practice
today for the first time since bring a serious knee
injury fourteen months ago. In the Redskins lost defensive tackle
Jonathan Alan Hill need foot surgery. The NBA Bulls forward

(27:07):
Bobby Portis banned eight games yes for punching Nicola Meritage
yesterday in practice. Merritage is gonna be out about four
to six weeks say. It's important to point out that
people are like, wait, why he punched them, and the like, No,
they're on the same team, right, just very important. Like
Nicola Meritage pays for the Bulls, Bobby Portis plays for

(27:27):
the Bulls. Bobby Portis and Nicola Merritage both played for
the Bulls away maybe yesterday when it was like red
because they turned their tank top inside out. Yes they Yes,
they are on the same team. Just a little practice
joke that fell flat. A Game five of the Alcs
coming up at five o'clock Eastern, Tom Astro's Yankees and
then Doug Well that serious is tied up at two

(27:48):
anything button the NLCS Dodgers trying to sweep the Cubs.
Game four at Chicago, nine o'clock Eastern time. People freaking.
This is what I said earlier today on They heard
Danny you tell me if you can, you're going to
have to change how you look at strikeouts. Okay, like
Aaron Judge hit the ball that has yet to land
as yet to land, um, But like, look, strikeouts is

(28:11):
just a number. It's kind of like wind. It's like
kind of like number of wins for starting pitchers. Really
and losses for starting pitchers, like it doesn't matter nearly
as much as it used to. Um, Yes, Aaron Judge
led the league in strikeouts. So if you're surprised by
the fact that he struck out so much, um, previously

(28:32):
in this series or in the previous series, you haven't
been paying attention. It's also important to mention, like like, oh,
he takes a lot of pitches and gets the first
base a lot. I go, did you know that he
was on base of the time? Like, so there's a
difference between like him and uh, let's let's go with
I don't know Chris Davis, right, Like Chris Davis the

(28:54):
Baltimore Orioles, another prodigious home run hitter who only had
only had home runs, struck out a hundred and nine times,
but he was only on base of the time, as
opposed to Aaron Judge, who had fifty two home runs
but struck out two hundred and eight times on base
the time, Like it's just an out, and um, it's

(29:20):
it's fascinating me. Like, look, they've people that we have
dramatically changed, dramatically changed how we look at how we
look at at batting averages, how we look at O
B P war ops slugging, but most importantly strikeouts, most

(29:43):
importantly strikeouts. And so to anybody's like, well, Aaron Judge
was just in a massive slump before last night. Like yeah,
but this kind of who he who he is? Kind
of who he is? How about the US one. He's
kind of like Derek Jeter. You're like, no, he's not.

(30:05):
We don't say Jeter. Okay, here's Aaron Judge. Uh fifty
two home runs in a hundred and fifty four was it?
And he had a hundred fifty four hits in five
forty two at bats. Somebody get out like a calculator here.
His average is two eight four. His on base to

(30:29):
OK times on base right, that's regular season. Postseason, Uh,
Aaron Judges average slip way down, only hitting one even
after last night. He's on base of the time. But
the strikeouts, the home runs almost the exact same ratio,

(30:50):
plus he had walked eight times. That's just baseball. But
the big thing is people freaked out about to strikeout numbers.
They're just breaking out. I can't believe how much he's
striking out. Like, dude, he struck out more than anybody
else in baseball in the regular season. And if you
think strikeouts are a big deal two fourteen, who is

(31:13):
the m v P Mike trop He led the league
in strikeouts. It's it's not that strikeouts aren't important. It's
not that winds aren't important for starting picture and losing
isn't important, but the level of importance placed on it
is not the same as it used to be. It's
just not It's like I tell people all the time, but, uh,

(31:34):
thirty year fixed mortgages. I can't. I've I've been told
for the last fifteen years. I've been a homeowner. For
sixteen years, I've owned a home. Let's see, I one
in Oklahma City, one in Burlington, Connecticut, and then two

(31:57):
in Canton, Connecticut, and then one in Westport, Connecticut. I've
never owned a home in California, will own five different
homes at different times. Now. Part of it is with
my job, moving around, little kids or whatever. We've moved
probably more than most people. We've lived. Now this is
our eight dwelling in my and my girls are eleven

(32:20):
years old. That's a lot. But the idea of a
thirty year fixed more. On the other hand, like John Ramos,
he's lived in the same place seventeen years, eighteen years,
eighteen years. We're both exceptions. The norm is people move
more often, or the norm is that no matter what
you get on your mortgage five and one, seven and one,

(32:40):
nine and one, there's all kinds of different arms you
can get. People are freaked out about an adjustable rate mortgage.
The fact is you can always refinance to a third
year or fifteen year fixed. It's not that thirty year
fixed are completely There are people like John, like I
bought this house in my dream house, keeping this house,

(33:00):
I'm not moving. That still exists. But the percentage of
people who stay in the same place for thirty years
and pay off their house pales in comparison to those
of us who, for the most part the market has
been going up. Obviously, at some point there will be
an adjustment here, because we've had about ten years now,
maybe eight years where it's it's recovered from the worst

(33:23):
recession we've seen. It's not nearly as important at thirty
year fixed as it was twenty years ago. Because for
the last fifteen years, I'm I've always been told rape
you're gonna go up, rates are gonna go up. Rates
are gonna go up. Rates are gonna go up, and
they do go up, and then they come down, and
then they go up and then they come down. They're
nowhere near where they were when we were kids. Like

(33:45):
we were kids and they were in double digits. Like
that doesn't exist anymore. And they're not going to exist
because because the second they do that, there'll be a
lot of people that are way to house poor and
we'll be pushed to another recession. Like it's not will
it raise up, yeah, will it affect the economy, sure,

(34:06):
But if you think it's getting even to the fives
and sixes, I can only give you the last fifteen
years as historical data. I've been told time and again.
And that's the same thing with strikeouts and wins and
win and lost record for for pictures. It's not that
it doesn't matter. Strikeouts do matter, but they don't matter

(34:27):
nearly as much. They're not nearly as embarrassing the players.
It's more have you been getting on base and do
you hit the ball out of the ballpark? Um? The
Cleveland Browns quarterback position should change names to the turnstyle
real news or fake news. I'll tell you next. Here's

(34:49):
the select quote difference. Most companies give you one option,
one policy, one rate, but select quote gives you options,
lots of options. I want you to give selec quote
a called eight eight, one, four, four six six, or
go to select quote dot com to a for a
totally free personal quote. Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Apparently I pronounced cal incorrectly. We'll get to that in

(35:09):
a moment before Justin Wilcox joins us talented young head
football coach for the Bears. Uh, he's gonna join his
fresh off the upset over Washington State. I do. We
had Dino Baber's on earlier this week, and it's like
Friday Night was two huge upsets, but they get caught
up in the wash of the upset Saturday, the crazy
stuff Sunday and you got baseball. We recognized it. Plus

(35:31):
we recognized it. Wilcox has has had a very well
regarded career before he got to be head coach. What
it's like to take over now as head coach? And um,
you get that first upset, how do you out as
a young head coach? How do you get your players
back and focus? Get to that after we get to
a game this is game time til game time is

(35:58):
brought to you by our friends and all the Shaved
Club way more than just razors. Try their first month
starter set, travel size shape, butter body cleanser, booty wipes,
and the executive razor, all for just five bucks. After that,
replacement cards ship for just a few bucks a months.
Get yours at dollar Shape club dot com. Flash, gottlie,
what do you got for me? Down today? We have
got real news fake news. That's real news. That is

(36:22):
real news? Quickly? Is it real news or fake news?
That these fights happen in practice? Uh more often than
we think in the NBA. I have never been so
this is the mirror Titch Bobby portis. I've never been
on a team in which there wasn't a fighter practice. Yeah,
like a good fist fighter practice. Now the the it's
pretty obvious who won this one, right, Like we don't

(36:45):
have any that's the problem with practice fights, Like to
this day, to this day, my my man Brian Montinata,
who's the new head coach at at Broken Arrow High School,
uh it outside of Tulsa. He's six ft ten and
he's like, oh yeah, I whooped you? Like yeah, dude,
you're six ft ten and he did the hockey thing
where he was like pulling my jersey over my head,

(37:06):
trying to punch me with the jersey over my head.
I couldn't get to the body. But other guys I've
gotten to the body getting body shots. They're just not
as glamorous looking, right like when you were the smallest
guy in the team. You gotta get to the body.
So Bobby Board is clearly whopped up on mirror Titch
who he he broke his face right, broken face. We
can agree that whoever did the punching one, but the

(37:27):
biggest problem is not the fighting. The biggest problem is
one who won and then two if there's still some
hurt feelings afterwards. All right, let's let's uh start with
some basketball. Then real news are fake news. When the
Golden State Warriors got their rings last night, they found
twenty three diamonds in the ring, a subtle shot at
Lebron James and the calves. I'm gonna say that's real news.

(37:48):
It's actually fake news. The Warriors rings had thirty one diamonds,
which seems like, yes, there you go. With the Steen
blown lead in the NBA Finals, the war is trying
to twist it in their favor. Thirty one diamonds in
that puppy that was handed out last night. Our real
news are fake news, Doug. After last year's hugely popular

(38:09):
showing in Philadelphia, the NFL Draft will be going back
to the city of Brotherly Law. No, that's fake news.
They asked for the first time ever, the draft will
be held at a stadium, and that stadium has a
T and T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Cowboys.
I think that's the lame pick. I liked in Philadelphia,
like it in New York, A T and T Stadium

(38:29):
is not in Dallas. In Arlington, it's huge, and it's
just not a destination. It's like, I don't know, like
I would rather have it at the Nokia Theater in
downtown l A live right, or have it have it somewhere.
I mean, I know they'll care with the Cowboys, but
I don't know. This feels like payback for Jerry Jones

(38:49):
getting two teams in l A. Real news are fake news, Dougs.
The Doug. The Browns are going back to rookie quarterback
to Shaun Kaiser, as he'll be starting in Week seven
against the Titans. I'm gonna say that's real lose, They're
real and the spectacle. Yeah he's Benching lasted just one week,
Kevin Hogan dealing with a rib issue, but Deshaun Kaiser
back as the starter for Tennessee or against Tennessee in

(39:11):
week seven. Would you be willing to bet your salary
that he last as the start of the entire season buyer,
barring injury? Yes, you think he does. I do not.
It's no chance in Cleveland he last the whole season
eye injury or dysfunction. I just think that they have
to look at it. They've got to get as much
information about him as possible before they pick again in April,

(39:34):
to find out what direction they want to go. Um,
real news are fake news. Doug year old Florida man
used his dad's unmarked patrol car to pull over his
ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend. That sounds like real. Yeah,
that's what Christopher Combs did. He is now no longer
a cadet in the Palm Beats County Sheriff's Department. Maybe
wanting a little revenge, pulled over the ex girlfriend and

(39:59):
her new boyfriend. Actually asked the boyfriend to get out
of the car. Later that unmarked carr was found in
front of his buddy's house. And yes, Christopher Colmes is
time as a cadet with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's
Department over after taking his dad's on marked car. I
have always wanted to drive around with the lights on.
Everybody has right. Imagine when he goes to the windows,

(40:23):
like step out of the car and she's like, oh gosh,
you don't know the window? You do the Microphoneane, this
is game time. On the Duck Gottlieb Show, I've been
told that California is okay. I've been told that is
he you see Berkeley is okay. That's right. You see

(40:44):
Berkeley or cal is okay? Whatever we California. I said
that first thing, California is okay. Whatever you do, don't
call the school that justin Wilcox led to an upset
of previously undefeated Washington State cal Berkeley. They don't know why,
we don't know why. We won't do it when he
joins us next in the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox

(41:07):
Sports Radio, What Up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio
Getting Ready for Major League baseball in the Bronx Game four,
Game five, excuse me, Game five a LCS as the
Yankees who trailed two games and none. Now I've tied
up the series and seemed to have Uncle Mo on
their side. Uh, but they'll have to take down. Uh

(41:32):
What's I can't remember Kaiko's first name? Dallas Kaiko. I
just I just completely blanked on. I was I was
reading last night when I knew he had Justin Wilcox
the Cow coach hunt and like, okay, he's facing Justin Herbert.
Herbert is a quarterback for Oregon. And then like Justin

(41:55):
Wilcox's a brother named Josh who played organ. His dad
Dave played an organ. He was of course he played
an Oregon, so he's going to play organ where he
went and he was a ball boy there. Like all
the names kind of coming together, and I was like, where, oh, Dallas. Sorry,
I'm I'm having one of those doing one of those
things that my dad used to do right where you
look at me. And my sister's name is Wendy's like Wendy,

(42:16):
Like I'm Doug, great Doug, where your name is? Apologize
that anyway? Uh? Justin Wilcox Cow head coach on Jonas
in just a moment, let me quickly kind of set
the table. We'll keep an eye on what's happened at
the Bronx as Dallas Kaiko is gonna try and stem
the tide, stem the tide. Stem. I think stem the
tide is the actual term, stem the tide of Aaron
Judge and the Yankees. That game is gonna be over

(42:38):
on Fox Sports One. We'll talk a little bit about
lebron and um one of the misconceptions about the ghost
that he's chasing. Rick Buker is gonna join us later
on the show from Bleacher Report, will ask him what
now for the Celtics with Gordon Hayward out for the
year and maybe more with a broken ankle from last night.

(43:00):
Plus Daniel Jeremiah will join us and we'll get his thoughts.
It's funny Daniel Jeremiah talked to us about Luke Falk.
Remember we were talking quarterbacks, Like you know what I
really like. I really like Luke Falk. Everybody really like
Luke Folk. Um until he played at Kain's Cow last
week where he had there's seven turnovers, five interception thrown,
nine sacks. Let's welcome in. Justin Wilcox is the head

(43:20):
coach of the cow Bears um And in case you've forgotten,
because the Friday night thing is weird, right, like they
had the fires going on so when they play the
game with in fact the game it didn't but there
was the Syracuse upset of Clemson sandwiching in. It was
in the middle of that sandwich with all the upset
Saturday night, but late Friday night up in Oakland, thirties

(43:41):
seven to three was the final that the defense completely
dismantled Washington State's offense, and their head coach joined us
on Fox Sports Trader Coach, how are you good? Um?
Does it Does it feel like your upset didn't get Maybe?
I don't know. Respect isn't the word the attention it
deserved because it wasn't one of those Hey they missed
a field, go off the upright and you kind of

(44:02):
snuck one out right. It was complete and thorough domination
because it kind of happened fridaynight and so many other
upsets happened on Saturday. I'm not sure it got the
play nationally deserves. Is that a fair way to look
at it? Yeah? I don't. I don't think I'd be
the one to answer that question. I don't really uh,
you know, pay attention to much of that stuff. So
it was a really good win for us. The guys

(44:23):
played well and obviously WOOS a talented team playing really well,
and we were able to to make some plays in
the game and win it and hopefully build on it
for this coming week. How are you able to Luke
Falkau is a talented quarterback, he's been there forever and
yet you really had him rattled. In addition the interceptions
that can happen, the nine sacks, How are you guys

(44:43):
able to apply such pressure to an offense that get
gets rid of the ball so quickly. I thought the
coaches did an awesome job putting the plan together, and
then the guys during the week, um, you know, prepared
really well. We had really good practices, a little bit
of short weeks, so a different schedule, and you played
with you know, off in defense, special teams, all phases,
really kind of play with a chip on their shoulder.
We hadn't played well the week before, player worst game

(45:05):
of the year, and New Washington State's a really good
team and had a great opportunity and just went out
and made the most of it. And you know, we
got some tip balls and things like that, and sometimes
those things go your way and sometimes they seem to
follow the other way, and we got them this past game.
And I'm just proud of the guys for taking advantage
of those opportunities. And but again, you know, what happened
last week really doesn't do anything for this week if

(45:26):
if we don't prepare. So it''s all about Arizona. Now, yeah,
Doug got the show Fox Sports Radio. Um, okay, so
you guys were cal and of course you haven't spent
your career there, right, but one fifty two and one
against top ten teams since nineteen seventy eight. But as
a as a young coach, is a guy who played
in this league, did you have a special pregame speech?

(45:47):
Is there anything like it's a big game. Here's what
I want to say. They're all big. I mean, I
wish there was some special pregame speech that could prepare
to you know, to do that. But it's really just
you know, the uh, you know, the product of all
the individual plays. And we had a good week of
practice and that's everything to us, you know, in terms
of how we prepare, and then we got to go

(46:08):
out and and perform, and the guys did a nice job.
And like I said, it took kind of every phase
of the game. We didn't play perfect by any means.
I mean, we came back and learned from the tape
just like we would on any other game. But yeah,
it's not you know, we try and stay really consistent
with our preparation and our process how we do things,
and we were able to go out and and again
making a place to win the game. Just Wilcox joined us.

(46:31):
He's the head coach of cow. It's Doug Ottli show,
Fox Sports Radio. Um, you mentioned it's funny like things
if you pay attention to the pack twelve. Um, you
you know about Khalil Tate. I don't know how many
people nationally have seen Khalil Tate play. He wasn't the
starting quarterback to start the year for Arizona, And all
they can ask for Rich Rodriguez now is how how

(46:52):
do you not win? The guy he's he's a video
game like, He's like Mike Vick video game? Right? Is that?
Is that a fair way to describe how athletic this
guy is? Yeah, he's really dynamic. I mean, I think
the status he's got like almost nine yards of offense
in the last two games. And um, he's a physical
runner and you have to treat him like he's a tailback.

(47:13):
But he obviously can throw the ball well and he's
really efficient as a passer. And obviously they're they're running
the ball extremely well on offense, and so it'll be
a totally different type of game in terms of what
we're seeing h this week against against those guys. But uh,
you know, coach Rodriez does a fantastic job and offensively

(47:33):
they give you a lot of challenges. Defensively, they do
a lot of movement and they're taking the ball away.
So you know, it's another opportunity for us. And like
I said before, it's all about practice and prep and
then we gotta go out and perform on Saturday. Well, listen,
you know you you've been a dynamic defensive guy. You
you go back, Um, you know last time you're at
Cow too, when you're at Boise, to Tennessee, to you

(47:54):
dub to USC to Wisconsin. Now as head coach at
Cal but we were talking about this little I think
earlier in the week on how um there's different variations
of the spread, and that Mike Leach, for example, brought
the spread, I think the big time college football when
he left Kentucky went to Oklahoma, right, But then then
there was rich Rodriguez, who you're facing this week, who

(48:15):
it was more running from the spread? Was is to
the layman, can you explain, you know, without a huge
long dissertation, like, what's the difference? Right, Like we all
see quarterback back there who can run and who can throw?
But outside of just the personnel, what's the difference in
what Rich Rod does and what Mike Leach does? Both
run the spread, both have been dynamic, both have been

(48:36):
copied time and again by others, but they're very very different.
How so, well, yeah, I think the term spread, um,
I guess it depends on your definition of spread. You know,
if you call spread means the quarterbacks in the gun
and there's about one but usually a one back offense,
and you've got a lot of detached receivers. But that
doesn't mean that within that, there's so many variations of

(48:59):
you know, playtie apes and are they using the quarterback
to run and what kind of run schemes are they using?
What's the past game. I just there's so much variation,
you know. So I think the term spread gets thrown
around just because you know, there's a there's I think
it's just because we don't know, but we don't know.
I think it's mostly because people like, you know, people
are on the radio, TV and fans like, we don't
know what it is. So wait a second, I don't

(49:20):
believe that, but you know exactly what. So again, but
how does it? What about what rich Rod has done?
That's like triple you know, so there's elements of triple
option and wing t in that offense. And because the
quarterbacks are threat to give it, keep it and essentially
throw it. And you know, in the old days triple
option it all looked like wishbone, you know, the old

(49:42):
Nebraska and so it was dive quarterback pitch. Well now
it's you know, inside zone or counter and how the
quarterback can still pull it but he's throwing bubble in
the spacing there's so much more space on the field,
you know, So there's a lot of elements of that.
There's elements of wing t. Now last week against Wazoo,
I mean talking a totally different mindset. You know that

(50:02):
they're going to throw the ball in space you and
timing on routes and meshes, and that means a totally
different offense. No, it's's it's fascinating because the spacing is
sta play college basketball. The spacing has changed dramatically in
the you know, uh, seventeen years since I played college best,
just like the spacing has changed dramatically in in college football.
Tell me if I'm wrong. The hardest part about what

(50:24):
rich Rod does is that when the quarterback is a
legit threat and Cleil Tate is a legit threat, that
brings an extra blocker in right, because and so, how
how much more difficult? And look, this is not your
first time around. I mentioned all the different places you
coach defense. How much how difficult is that? Because we

(50:44):
always used to hear because of the cut blocks, and
because the quarterback was a threat that the toughest prep
for any team was going against an option team. Right,
like he plays play Navy or Georgia Tech or back
in Nebraska. Playing in the middle season is hard? Is
Arizona similar in that fashion? Yeah, it's because you've got
eleven on eleven? Uh, you know again, their pitchman is

(51:05):
running bubble or you might be running a slant on
an r P O. But it's still you have to
account for everybody, you know, and that's the challenge. You know,
usually in traditional style off a traditional meaning the quarterbacks
back there to either hand it off or throw it.
You're always plus one somewhere, and whether it's in the
run game or the past game, you can always kind
of manipulate that on defense, So that's where the game
planning type things come in. But when you're playing them, uh, yeah,

(51:28):
you got to defend everybody and uh and the and
the one on ones that they create. You know, even
if you do, even if your ex is cover all
their os in the right spots, you still got to
go make the play in space against talented athletes. And
that's the challenge, you know. Uh So they will space
you out and put you in one on ones and
you've got to be able to you know, tackling is
going to be huge. The tempo at which they do
it right, so they still they will use tempo. Uh

(51:52):
and so that's another you know, kind of layer of
the challenge. But that's what's really cool about this conference.
You know, in the PAC twelve, you're you're gonna see
like last week we saw you know, Wazoo, and this
week is Arizona. It's a totally different offense. And you
saw you saw USC. You saw the USC before that,
which is more kind of a little bit more pro
style stuff. So I guess here here's the question. I've
talked to my gun to a bunch about this and

(52:13):
he's like, look, I don't know if out of this
league we would be as competitive because we're built to
win our league, right they they they take a lot
of chances. In that league you have to turn people
over because they can all really score. What about the
Pack twelve defensively, because there's such a myriad of styles. Uh,
there is some pro style stuff, but there are different
versions of of what people want to do in terms

(52:35):
of tempo, playing fast and playing slow. Is it a
is there a universal defense that works and what does
it work out of the league? Well, I would say
if there's a universal defense at work, everybody'd been doing
it because there's really no secrets anymore. I think it's
about you know, there's certain foundations that you believe in,
and you know we have ours. Um, it's gonna come
back to the fundamentals of the game. It's gonna come

(52:56):
back to, uh, you know, the stats that we really
talk about the most or or turnovers and and big
plays and you know, obviously protecting the ball on offense
and creating some big plays on offense and on defense
just obviously vice versa. We're gonna try and take the
ball away and create or limit the explosive plays. And uh,
you know, you don't always have control over how many

(53:17):
times the other team is gonna snap the ball. I mean,
if they're gonna snap at ninety times, and you know,
we gotta play ninety times. And and I think it's
just you know, each week it's a little bit different
on what it's going to take to win the game.
And so we kind of approach it, you know, that week,
what do we need to do to win this game
on defense, offense, and in special teams. And that's the
thing about the Pack twelve. And you do get so
much variety, you do. Um, all right, this is your

(53:39):
first year's head coach. You've been doing this a long
time and as as an assistant. And I just look
at the emotions of going back to Oregon, losing that game,
the blowout, lost to a very good you Dub team
against Chris Peterson who you used to coach with, and
then to come back and all of a sudden, now
you beat Washington State, which is a huge upset your
first year in is it? Is it everything you expect it?

(54:00):
Des What? What's it actually like now that you're experiencing
finally being a head coach? Um, I think the biggest
thing is, you know, just you know, staying consistent in
what we do and who we are. And um, obviously
you know we're gonna disappointing to have those those three
weeks in a row where we didn't play as well
as if we would have liked obviously really good teams
we were playing. But you know, I'm really excited about

(54:22):
the guys for staying with it and practicing really hard
and preparing and and paying off last week. But like
I said before, I mean it guarantees you nothing, uh
for this next week, So we gotta We were back
at it again on Monday, and um, it's consistency, right.
Can we keep working and growing as a team, because
that's what's gonna take for us, and it's my job
to create the environment to do that well. Ross Bowers
obviously going up and over in that flip. That's one

(54:43):
of those that he because he didn't get hurt. It's awesome,
but I'm sure you're a hold in your breath when
he's like mid air, like no, no, no, no, yes, yeah,
it's about right. You know. I appreciate that about Ross.
I mean the guys, you know, selling out for his
teammates and and you love that about him. But he's
not the biggest guy in the world, so I'm not
you know, don't need him to take too many of
the all right, well, good luck trying to corral Khalil
take because that that kid is is a freak. And

(55:05):
look forward to watching the game and watching your program evolve.

found that to be super interesting. I don't know, we'll
be talking too much football le talk. I don't know
what wire. We just the idea that like you see
a guy back there in the shot, can you see

(57:13):
a running back next to him and guys out wide
and you're like, oh, it's spread spread spread right, Like
you want to sound cool for your Like I actually
like this. My wife was we're watching um the Yankees.
I'm trying to think it was, you know it was
it was the Cubs versus the Dodgers Game two, Game two,

(57:34):
and I think it was the Cubs who it was
the Dodgers who walked somebody with runner a second base
with one out and they intentionally walked to running and
make it first and second and first. It was. It
was both my son and my wife's first time and
watching the game with the new rule where you don't
have to you don't have to throw the intentional walk

(57:55):
pitches right there used to be nothing worse than like
four pitched Like whoa, uh, anyway, you just give the
guy first space. So first I was like, well, it's
a new rule. You just give a guy fir space.
And so my wife turned to me and she's like,
why why would you Why would you put a run
run first space? And I was like, because you want
to keep the double play in play? What do you mean?

(58:16):
I was like, well, you know, like, look, if you
have a guy who's prone to hit double play balls,
you have a sinker ball pitcher or somebody who you
know induces ground balls based upon their numbers, and even
if they don't, you want to keep the You want
to keep the double play so you can get out
of the inning. And she's like, oh, really they do
that a lot. I was like, yeah, yeah, I actually
did do it a lot, especially in playoff games, and

(58:39):
then sure enough what happens that will play ball. So
I look like like the smartest guy ever. Like everybody
wants to listen to sports radio, watch sports se TV
and go like cover two, Cover two two, safeties high,
too high, it's too Tampa two, Jon Gruden Tampa two,
which you know money Kiffin wran. You know they had

(59:00):
before when they had you just started kind of reeling
off names. You have no idea what you're talking about.
But for a guy who goes like, oh, you know
it's spread like now which now now you can start
throwing out wing T do you gause know? I've actually
run the wing tea My first year playing football is
little Kid Orange Raiders. We ran the wing te my
high school football program. Now that's nice. School runs the

(59:22):
wing T And I've run triple options run on like
they don't run power I like they used to murn
power I. Now they have full house back fields. Uh
inverted bone yes, Ryan Music. Well, I was just gonna say,
I think sometimes we get caught up in like what
what's like the big talking points that we could we

(59:44):
could hit on as opposed to like every once in
a while like it's okay to actually just talk about
what's happening on the field and what you're watching on TV,
not just like, well did you see that? Uh? You know,
the wide receiver and the quarterback don't get get along
in the locker room. Like every once in a while,
you do need to draw out what the fans get

(01:00:05):
to watch on TV. Go ahead, go ahead, Ramos, Ramas
is doing the Ramas is doing the congregation. Like amen, brother,
I agree. I think that the casual fans that watch
games need to know the XS and knows every once
in a while. They need to know what defense, what
the offensive is running instead of just like, hey, just
threw the ball over there. How that happened? So I

(01:00:27):
have trouble and Madden trying to pick out defenses sometimes.
So the video you can always do the ask man,
here's a guy who Now. What you have to do
is you have to not talk over people's heads, right
like you can't just because there are some guys who
just they talk. That's one of the good things. Romo
I think does a good job. I think John Smills
is a good job in baseball. Whatever you can talk
subtle nuances. I think some people use terms that they

(01:00:50):
don't know what they mean. They just use terms. I
think some people talk over people's heads. The big thing
in when he says eleven on eleven, did you guys
understand what what apartment? And he was like, well, when
you when you have a running quarterback at eleven on eleven?
Did you music? Did you get that part? No? Okay,
So this is a this is a really big thing,

(01:01:10):
like the reason that around the goal line people have
their different You know when Tim Tebow was super effective
at it. He's probably been the most effective of any
college quarterback at If you in traditional quarterback handing the
ball to running back, that becomes like ten on eleven.

(01:01:32):
The quarterback is not a threat. Once he hands the
ball off, he's not involved in the play. So when
he becomes a runner, like you can actually have ten
guys blocking for that one runner. That's actually original football,
like quarterback was only quarter of the way back. Halfback
was halfback. Fullback was actually the one in the back.

(01:01:53):
When they used to run original wing t where they
snapped the ball to one of those guys and they
were just student body right was the whole team would
go to block to the right. That's it that's old like,
that's the oldest of old school football. And eleven on
eleven means every player is involved in the play. Ten
guys can be blocking and the runner running, as opposed

(01:02:13):
to if you have a quarterback that's not a threat
he hands off the ball. Now he's not involved in
the play. It's eleven on ten. So that's one of
the one of the reasons it makes it more difficult
to prepare for a running quarterback, specifically in college, but
a little bit in pros like they'll do it at
times that that's all the wildcat is. It makes it

(01:02:34):
eleven on eleven. Let's bring in Dan Buyer. Dan Uh,
they're the way the box set night. Yet right away
the pregame show is on, they were doing the countdown,
so I was like, man, I thought the game was
at two local at five in in New York and
they were doing a countdown clock. But the countdown clock

(01:02:55):
on Fox Sports One was to the pregame show. Yes,
and the first pitch is gonna be two o eight
local time for US five oh eight in the Bronx.
That's what we should get as massle hero Tanaka will
throw that first pitch. Doug as he's on the hill
for the Yankees, Dallas Kaiko goes for the Astros. Series
is tied up at two a piece. It's Game five
of the ALCS on Fox Sports One. Now on TBS tonight,

(01:03:17):
nine o'clock Eastern time, It's Game four of the NLCS.
The Dodgers up three oh as Alex Wood tries to
close it out for l A comes counter with Jake
Arietta trying to keep their season alive. This just did
from the NFL. Doug Colts general manager Chris Ballard says
that quarterback Andrew Luck is experiencing soreness in his shoulder
and won't practice this week. Actually had a cortisone shot.

(01:03:39):
It's not known exactly when Luck will practice again, but
Ballard says that they hope that he won't be out
for long. NFL owners today wrapped up their fall meeting
in New York, and there's no change to the league's
policy on the national anthem. Couple of them, they're not
a lot of complish. They're right. They were like, um,
we would like to continue to encourage them to stand.
Are you gonna make them stand? We'd like to incurage

(01:04:00):
them to continue to stand yes, and then uh, I
can't remember. I think was Jim Trotter said, like, what
are you gonna do if a team punishes a player
for not standing? Hey, we got the answer right here.
How about that? Right? If an owner who still feels
that he can discipline a player for taking a knee,
what response will we see from the league? I think
our clubs all sees just the same way. We want

(01:04:21):
our players to stand. We're going to continue to encourage
them to stand. And I can't deal with hypotheticals right now.
We'll deal with those issues if they come up. That's
rog that is that is a that is a non
answer answer. If I've ever heard of somewhere somewhere somewhere
the master of it, somewhere behind the podium, like there's
a cream there's like a pr going yes, we totally

(01:04:41):
killed that answer, Like you didn't say anything, like, yes,
we did. You're right. We said nothing, which is everything,
which is nothing at all. There was this one too.
We believe everyone should stand for the national anthem. That
is straight from the policy manual that they have that
we've talked about for the last week. I think it's
verbatim for what they having the policy of players should

(01:05:02):
stand for the national anthem. That was from the commission
earlier today. Um other NFL notes, the twenty ant NFL
Draft is moving from Philly to Arlington, Texas. Just the
one stop shop in Philly now moving on to Texas,
the home of the Cowboys. They'll have it at a
T and T Stadium, the first time a draft has
ever been held at a stadium. And we finally heard
Doug from Bull's head coach Fred Hoiberg after the fight yesterday.

(01:05:25):
It was a little bit of pushing going on, but
we thought everything would be fine. We never thought it
would escalate to the level of what happened. From that
standpoint of very disappointed in what happened. Nicolamiratich gonna miss
four to six weeks because of the fracture and the
concussion he suffered when he was punched by Bobby Portis.
Portis today suspended eight games without pay. When when for comment,

(01:05:47):
nicolamer just said, oh who Skip Bayliss just tweeted at
you and said to it's funny, Hey, you man, you're
pretty active last night, Dougie on Twitter, You're on fire.
I just like I didn't go ahead, Skip that hard,

(01:06:09):
but just like, dude, can we can we get to
your show tomorrow before we're like Lebron's gonna win the East.
It's gonna win the East. Like I just I thought
it was a little quick. Uh, how about like the
Lebron traveling video. People love that one. That one's kind
of like almost ten thou retweets you know what, you
know what else is great? I saw that and then
I saw that new Nike commercial where they have the

(01:06:29):
kid who's on the playground and grows up to play
with Lebron. Lebron actually travels in that commercial. And here's
the other thing about it. Here's the other thing about it,
um is Syracuses playing man to man in that commercial. Like, look,
if they're gonna have and how do they not have
how do they not have Jim Beheim and Mic Chefs.

(01:06:50):
Here's like Jim Beheim screaming doing that screaming thing where
he's storing his jacket off. How does that not part
of the commercial anyway? And to think like and to
think shoe company help athletic teams, like right right, like
all of a sudden, now you go from Lebron and Duke.
That was interesting, but yeah he did. He did in fact,
travel and game on the line. Apparently it's okay to
throw a ball off the backboard for a dunk, like

(01:07:12):
that's a risky maneuver. Hey, I I this is just
an This is just an honest question. I like Lebron,
like I'm not. I don't think he's better than Jordan's.
It's we're kind of the Lebron is the greatest thing?
Is just whatever? Um, I just get worn down by
the Nick Writes and the Colin cowherds of the world

(01:07:34):
tell me how great he is. Like, I think he's
a great player. I don't think he's better than Jordan's.
But um, what's the deal with his hair? Right? Like
it's pretty obvious he had to have like the hair
transplant thing done right right, the way they put the
little little seeds there. And I guess is that the
reason that he's not shaving it? But it just doesn't

(01:07:55):
I don't know, it's just he doesn't need it, Like
he's a good looking dude, Like, can't you just shave
his hair? I don't know. My daughter actually told me this,
uh the other day, she was like, they're looking at
the back of my head, like it's kind of light
up there, like thanks, appreciate it, love it, Love you too, sweetheart.
She's like, Dad, listen if it it's kind of you know,

(01:08:17):
you have you know those things in the front there
was like power alleys. She said, yeah, you got power alleys.
If it goes in the back too, will you shave it?
Like will you you know, do like a one guard?
Like yes, She's like, because it looks so bad when
Dad's try and cover it up by like I was like,
it's called a comb over, yeah, doing that so like

(01:08:37):
look was I I understand you're thirty two years old
and you start fighting that losing battle, right, And maybe
he spent a bunch of money with somebody who goes,
hey you should you should do this, and your hair
would and occasionally, you know, when he does makes appearances,
he gets the spray and stuff, you know, so it
looks like a full head of hair. But I don't know,

(01:08:57):
like he's Lebron James. He could be bald, could have
I mean, he could have the he could have one
of the the island of misfit hair. Do you guys
know the island of misfit hair. That's when you go bald.
Except for that little little patch right in front, a
little tuft of hair, and guys just don't know what
to do with it. If you've watched This is Us, uh,

(01:09:19):
the heavy he's fat, the fat guy who's the boyfriend
of Kate Toby Toby. Toby hasn't fat in real life.
Apparently Toby's not fat in real life. He plays a
fat guy. It does look fake. It does look fake.
I was kind of disappointed This is Us last night.
Do you watch that show? Dan? Um? I'm in the

(01:09:41):
room when my wife watches that show, so I know,
like the characters. I didn't see last night's. It was
a sports night. It was a sports night. Yeah, it
was a sports night. And what we had been doing
because of sports nights as we've been DVR and my
wife's like, you're never home when we can watch this?
And I was like, um, the Warriors are on. She's
like an NBA game, what's the first game of the alright,

(01:10:01):
final DVR the NBA game watching when we're done. We
watched the show together. Um, it's a good show. But
Toby has an island of misfit hair. Now is that
really his hair and not really his body? Good question
speaking of Lebron. You know, look the the amazing thing
about Lebron and he said he was he he claims

(01:10:22):
to be out of shape, which I I believe he's
out of basketball shape. The problem with Lebron telling us
he's out of basketball shape is why are you posting
all those videos of you working out in the off
season and you had a pre camp at UC Santa
Barbara where you where it looks like you're in great shape.
And then yeah, you had an ankle injury which limited
you and you didn't play in preseason games, but it

(01:10:42):
wasn't like they shut you down altogether. It is amazing
that he hasn't been hurt, right, like as remarkable or
as gross really as Gordon Hayward's broken ank leg and
this located ankle was last night last night. Equally remarkable
is like Lebron doesn't get hurt, just hasn't. And I mean,

(01:11:08):
you're talking about fifteen years of no injury and what
I what I think, what I think we found is
remember this is guys have learned from the past, and
Michael Jordan was the first one to hire Tim Grover
full time have the breakfast club. Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant.
They used to come over. They lift weights and work
out and shoot every day even when they had practice.

(01:11:32):
And I get the you want to compare. You can't
compare him to Jordan because Jordan took a year off
when he was thirty years old after winning three championships
and then took half the next year off both years
to play baseball. And remember, Jordan went to three years
of college. Lebron went to none. That's why the longevity is.
But if there's one thing that's I've said, the most

(01:11:53):
impressive thing about Lebron continues to be his level of conditioning,
his physics, fitness. He looked a little thick last night,
but you know NBA players that you're gonna drop fifteen
pounds in season easy with the amount of cardio you're doing. Um,

(01:12:16):
but I don't really understand the I'm not in shape
after posting all those workout videos. I know basketball shape
is different than lifting shape. I get it. But it
wasn't like anybody like, oh my my coach played me
forty one minute. It wasn't like Lebron could go like, hey,
I need some more to I don't only want to
play thirty minutes game and Tyrone lose, Like, no, you're
going to play forty one. If Lebron didn't want to

(01:12:40):
play forty one, he wouldn't have played forty one. Who's
the most important player on the Warriors? Nick right will
tell you, and I'll tell you if he's right or wrong.
That's coming next in the Doug Outland Show. Here's the
select quote difference. Most companies give you one option, one policy,
one right, but select quote gives you options, lots of options.

(01:13:01):
I want you to give a slight quote called eight
hundred eight eight one four four six six, or go
to select quote dot com today for a totally free
personal quote. Doug Alive Show, Fox Swarts Radio. We think
we have an incredible radio lineup. Serious x M actually
has two radio two channels of ours of course, uh uh,
let's see, I'll kick the coverages now on like two

(01:13:21):
oh two, whereas first things versus on eight three. Of
course we're on eight three our first two hours. I
don't know for third hours on two oh two and ship,
but like, why don't we run us all the time
on put but speak for yourself on two o two? Um,
but we got a great lineup from Outkaate the coverage
to First Things First, to the Dan Patrick Show, to
Colin Cowherd The Herd Too Undisputed, to Rich Eyes and

(01:13:45):
show our show, Steve Gorman, Sports, Ben Muhller, Jason Smith,
I'm listening somebody JT the brick right. Plus our weekend
lineup is spectaclor. We bring back daily something we heard
previously on one of our shows. We call it say well, look,
Nick Wright is uh. He is a Lebron fan. He

(01:14:07):
thinks Lebron is the greatest thing he's ever seen. And
he had this to say in regards to the Warriors
and who their most important players. What happened was Draymond
Green tweaked his knee and didn't play in that fourth quarter.
And yesterday when folks killed me for just postulating that
minor and major injuries happened in the NBA. Now, we
saw the horrifying into the spectrum with Gordon Hayward, but

(01:14:30):
the minor into the spectrum is the tweaked knee, the
tweaked ham string, the shoulder that aches a little bit.
Draymond Green went out and the Warriors defense fell aht
with Draymond on the floor. Last night, they had a
one oh three defensive rating. That's okay, it's not great,
but with their great Offensei's fine with Draymond off the court,

(01:14:51):
they had a one thirty defensive rating that is objectionably bad.
That was the difference is Draymond went out last year's
se see you and I talked, who's the most important
player on the Warriors. It is not durant Um. Look,
I guess you could say last night it was. But
it's also important to realize they didn't have Andrea Goodala

(01:15:12):
last night, who would have normally replaced Draymond Green. That's
not to diminish Draymond Green is important, but importance. But
the thing that it just kind of all works together,
that's really the point that's important. Steph Curry is able
to have nights or or high turnover games occasionally because
Clay Thompson can pick him up. You know, Clay Thompson.

(01:15:35):
Steph Curry shoot a ton of threes, But it also
opens up the lane for because they shoot so many
three thirty. In fact, it opens up the lane for
other for drivers. Um and I look, Draymond works, but
it works because he can play three different positions. Guard
three or four different positions, So Duke and Andrea Goodala,

(01:15:55):
like the whole thing kind of works together. That's not
to say the Draymond is not important, but it's also
it's point out he was made more important last night
because they didn't have Andrea Gouodala, and he's a specific
cog to which they just don't have with the rest
of the team. Yes, I just wonder. I can't think
of a situation where I would ever say that Kevin

(01:16:15):
Durant on any team is somehow less important to that
team than a player like Draymond. It's silly. It really
is silly. Um Like, And like you say, is Kevin
Durant can be Kevin Durant on any team. Draymond can't
be Draymond on any team. Draymond could be Draymond on
this team exactly. So, like I can understand, you could
be like, well, the way this team has made up Draymond,

(01:16:35):
he fills this physical role and he plays defense like
that's all finding good. But there's no way you could
ever convince me that Kevin Durant is not the most
important player on any team that he is on in
the entire NBA, except for if he was somehow on
Lebron James team. Let's also play this in regards to
something Jay Wright said, Villanova head coach on first things first,

(01:16:55):
what was so unique about this was that and sometimes
you hear this, no one knew anything about this, number
one about it going on. And then when an FBI,
you know, investigation came out, WHOA. I mean, that was
shocking to everybody in college basketball. But it's a few guys.
It's there. You know. It's an issue that we're all
going to deal with together. But the game is good,
you know, graduation rates are up. College basketball is healthy.

(01:17:17):
But we have to be honest and address this, and
we've got to clean it up, you know, and I
think we will. I think for me personally, I just
think the baseball model, the college football football guy's gotta
stay three years, right, It's so simple. Just let these
guys go out of high school and then develop the
G League so that guys that need to make money
and don't want to go to college don't have to.

(01:17:39):
They can go to the G League and and and
make some money for their family. I love Jay Wright,
but I should point out that you can already go
to the G League straight out of high school. The
G League has a different salaries uh structure this year
to which you can make from to seventy five thousand
dollars as a G League player, and then a two

(01:18:00):
way contract you can make is six figures. Although a
high school player who goes straight to the G League
cannot be a two way player because they could not
play in the NBA, that two way means NBA teams
pick up part of their deals. My point is only
that this already is the G League thing, already exists,
already exists, and the reason that players don't do it

(01:18:21):
is because they know that one there's a safety net
provided by college basketball teams, and two there's promotion provided
by college basketball teams that has a ton of value,
more valuable than Grand before Texas fifty grand before Texas
not really close. UM. I don't I think the football

(01:18:43):
model works. I just do I think football model works. UM.
I think that the problem you would have if you
had the G League thing where they if they pumped
up the G League salaries, or you had you you
could come straight out, which you can already do, come straight,
get drafted right away, would be everybody would go out

(01:19:04):
the first couple of years before it was obvious, there
were a bunch of flame outs and guys without college degrees,
guys getting cut left and right. Because there's not as
many spots, it's harder to make it. Um in in
uh in the NBA's only four jobs. I just I
think this is a bad plan because it would college
basketball be really bad for a couple of years before

(01:19:27):
it would it would ultimately stabilize. Yes, right, I mean,
I know it's a complex issue with how you're which,
what your family, you grow up in. But isn't also
part of the issue that it feels like people bank
on like well, I'm just gonna go to the NBA
when we know that there's only so many people that

(01:19:48):
are going to get drafted each year. And then even
if you don't get drafted, then there's only so many
people that can be in the G league, Like the
NBA doesn't have that many spots available. Four HUT player.
So listen, there's four and fifty spots in the entire league.
Um thirty of those are reserved for if you want,
I mean thirty guaranteed contracts to first round draft picks.

(01:20:12):
You might even go with thirty five because there are
some second round picks to get guaranteed deals. Remember, of
those thirty in the first round at minimum five are
gonna be to foreign players. You're so in terms of
guaranteed American players going to the NBA out of college,
you're talking about thirty max plus. You're adding in a

(01:20:34):
player here, a player there. It's been in the G League,
been overseas, whatever, come back. You're talking about forty or
fifty new jobs a year. That's it. And while that
may seem like a lot for the four hundred and
fifty jobs that that exists in the league, keep in mind,
if there are what three Division one school street one

(01:20:54):
Division one schools and twelve players on scholarship for each school,
you me thirteen players on scholarship for each school. Let's
say that what's three fifty times four seniors for each school.
You're talking about a couple of thousand players that are
into the market every year, and you only have jobs.

(01:21:21):
That's of the guys that have made it to their
senior year, knowing when the truth is most of those
jobs go to freshman and sophomore anyway, So yeah, there's
not a lot of jobs out there, and every guy
thinks they can go play overseas and it's a lot harder,
and overseas they want older players. They don't want younger guys,
and you don't make a bunch played over there. Plus

(01:21:41):
there's a culture shock to it. I just I continue
to tell you you can go and go to the
G League. Go. Nobody forced you to go to college.
College is a better deal. It's always been in a
better deal. It's the smart play because the NBA, if
you're good enough, we'll be there for you. Rick Puker
joins the show. Up coming next, I'll ask him about

(01:22:03):
the Warriors. Are they better than they were last year?
I'll ask him about the Cavaliers? Are they better? And
I'll ask him about a terrible injury to Gordon Hayward.
Does it actually help the Celtics in the long run
because they'll develop Jalen Brown, will develop Jason Tatum earlier
then had Gordon not gotten hurt. That's next to the

(01:22:24):
Doug Gotlip Show, What Up? Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports
Radio Getting ready to see baseball at Yankee Stadium. You're
pretty outstanding. I think that goes without saying mm hmm
um Dodgers go after this, right, so we have back
to back baseball games. You got full slate of NBA games.

(01:22:46):
Finally gonna see Ben Simmons play tonight, aren't we seventy
sixers play tonight? Don't they full slate of NBA games.
That's awesome. Uh, seventies six Ers take on the Wizards.
That gets on the way in two hours. You'll see
Ben Simmons, Joel and bead Um. You'll see the the
Miami Heat that nearly got into the playoffs last year.

(01:23:07):
We we caught up with Justice Winslow yesterday on the show.
Is that the day before? Maybe the day before? You
can download that podcast, go to iTunes wherever you download podcast.
These Celtics who lost Gordon Hayward for the year, that
devastating injury. They return home. They got the Bucks Greek freak,
no Jabari Parker as of yet, but the Bucks a
team that at some point you think could crack into

(01:23:30):
that top four, especially with the Raptors losing some of
their ancillary pieces from last year. We'll see the Pelicans.
They've perennially gotten off too slow starts. They take on
the Memphis Grizzlies. The Nuggets, the team I like. I
think no kitches outstanding, like top ten, top fifteen in
the NBA, top of that type of outstanding. They take

(01:23:53):
on the Utah Jazz, of course lost Gordon Hayward, We'll
see the Spurs take on the Timberwolves. Blazers taken on
the Suns, and the Rockets, fresh off their last second
win over the Golden State Warriors take on the Sacramento
King So full slave NBA too, right, night, right night.
Who better to get us started in the NBA season with?
Then a guy he's got his own radio show you

(01:24:14):
can hear on Sirius XM channel two, I believe, and
of course writes for Bleach Report. He knows all things NBA.
He's Rick Buker. He joins us on the Doug Gottlip Show.
Buke UMU. Are you a when Gordon Hayward got hurt?
Are you I don't want to see it? Do you
want to watch it once? Or do you want to
watch it as many times as possible? Certainly certainly not

(01:24:38):
the latter I do. I did want to see it
at least once to just know exactly what happened, as
cringeworthy as it was. But I don't need to see
it over and over again. You kind of knew just
by seeing the body language when he came down, uh,
that that it was bad and awkward and certainly disappointing.

(01:25:01):
But once is plenty just enough. I need to see it.
I need to know kind of exactly what happened, so
like it very at least compare it to other catastrophic
injuries that we've seen. But beyond that, I don't need repetitions. Yeah,
catalog it' I'm a I'm a I can't see it enough. Guy.
I'm fascinated by really, Yeah, I'm fascinated by the human

(01:25:21):
body and things that it can do, and the fact
that medical science can patch these dudes up like that
whole thing fascinates me. Yeah. No, there there is that part,
and the fact that they are from what I'm hearing,
I'm just initially someone told me that there wasn't any
ligament damage, which I just find extraordinary, and that it
was a clean break. Obviously depends on where the break

(01:25:41):
is now going back and watching it, like watching Sean
Livingston and then going back and seeing what what he underwent,
or seeing Paul George and how dynamic he is once
again and going back and seeing what he experienced. As
to the fact, once we've had the recovery, then I'm
with it. But in the moment, like watching it over

(01:26:02):
and over and over again last night, when we don't
know really what this means for Gordon Hayward moving forward,
other than all those people that are immediately saying, but
you know, do you think this is a career ending injury?
This is what I'm fascinated by. But the fact that
I don't know that there is such a thing as
a career ending injury. Uh, with the sports medicine that
we have today, I tend to agree. I've said that,

(01:26:24):
I've said that many times. Is that, like, look how
many guys we have to see come back to which
you're like, there is there might not be a such
thing as a career ending injury anymore. Rick Buker joining
us some bleacher report. Alright, so, um, here's the thought.
Could this we don't know what Gordon when Gorman to
Hayward returns, and we hope that he can have a
Paul George like return Paul George today, I don't know

(01:26:45):
if I saw this, he said, I'm still not as
explosive as I used to be, but he's still a really,
really good player. But could it Could it in any
way benefit the Celtics just that they'll have to develop
Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown more this year than they
would have previously. They weren't. They weren't thinking they're gonna
win an NBA title this year anyway, And it helps
him forward next year in the following year. Uh, yeah, no,

(01:27:07):
there can There can be a silver lining here. And
I think people should also realize that as much as
a big deal as we made out of Gordon Hayward
and as as respected as he is, this is not okay.
He was he was being put in that superstar pantheon
when he was on the free agent market and talking
to people in the in the league GM, you know,

(01:27:29):
during during that time, kind of raising their eyebrows saying
this seems like that there's the the advertising is a
little over the top in terms of what he needs.
Are the Celtics going to miss him? Would heed they'd
be better with him? With him? Uh? Does it? Uh?
Sort of retard the development of chemistry between him and

(01:27:52):
and Kyrie Irving. Yes to all of those things, But
I always felt that the Celtics were changed, seeing themselves
dramatically from a gritty, defensive oriented team to an offensive
powerhouse that now Brad Stevens is going to have to
coach into playing conscientious defense, but that they were really

(01:28:14):
going to have a different personality and a different dynamic,
and Gordon Gordon it would contribute to that, but it's
not as if he was the centerpiece to all of that.
They still have a lot of talent. They still have
uh players that can Uh substitute into his position. So

(01:28:36):
I don't I don't look at it as an absolute
like the Celtics were a title contending team and now
they'll be lucky if they get into the playoffs. This
is not This is not Kde going down with or
leaving the the Oklahoma City Thunder and leaving Russ Westbrook

(01:28:56):
uh to fight it out by himself. They're they're a
little more balanced. I don't think that the ceiling was
as high as some people made it so Uh. In
in to to reference your question, yeah, without question, it
gives they already had a lot of young talent that
they need to see what it could do. This is
just going to open up the opportunity for more of

(01:29:19):
that young talent, so Gottli's show, that's the voice of
Rick Buker. You you wrote an article on why Lebron
and Carrie fizzled and uh and they didn't follow the
rules of being a one to punch? What were what
are the rules that they didn't follow? Well? Uh, some look.
I took a look at you know why Carl Karl

(01:29:40):
Malone and John Stockton, why they lasted as long as
they did, even though if you looked at those two individuals,
you couldn't find more disparate people by appearance, or the
fact that Kareem and Magic h were able to to
stay together as long as as they did. And you
can look at some of these dynamic duos that had

(01:30:00):
had had a tremendous amount of success um and and
why did Kyrie and Lebron? Why did it not that
not work for them? And in spite of their success
and and the essence of the pieces that we just
look at success and think, well, that's you know, if
you're winning, that's all that matters. And while that is

(01:30:22):
a very quaint notion, uh, as you and I both know,
there's a lot more that goes into the chemistry of
a team. And the chemistry of superstars, and uh, some
of it is just the timeline of where guys are
and what they have going on around them, who they
have going on around them, And when you look at

(01:30:44):
those elements, you can find things about Stockton and Malone
or Kareem and Magic where above and beyond their success
as teammates, they had a reason to stay together. Stephen
and Clay, you have any number of examples, and Kyrie
and Lebron just had other than winning, every other aspect,

(01:31:07):
whether it be the the advertising deals they had, or
where they were in their timelines as people and as players,
how they came into the league where their first stardom
was enjoyed, like they had none of that connective tissue.
So my point simply was everybody's looking at it and

(01:31:28):
they're a gas that these two didn't stick together or
didn't continue on, and I'm looking at it saying, you
know what, I think there's some pretty pretty valid reasons
why their relationship didn't didn't exist beyond the three seasons.
And I don't know if you saw it after the
game last night, but uh, I love the fact that
there was the uh. And we know Lebron has been

(01:31:51):
calling Kyrie kids forever, still calls him a kids, still
calling him a kid. That diminuted that that the meeting, Yeah, hey,
you know the kid, and he's got to know that
that is just so under under Kyrie's skin. But after
the game, Lebron pats him on the head as they embrace,

(01:32:11):
and Kyrie makes the extra effort, not consider Ye's probably
about six three or so. He's got to reach up
and he's got a pat Lebron on the head, and
Lebron like, for one last shut Now you're not getting
the last minute. I'm gonna pat you on the head again.
It was such a subtle exchange of of trying to

(01:32:32):
just kind of diminish the other guy, like, yeah, thanks
for coming. Yeah, yeah, I really appreciate you a little fuddy.
I just love that exchange. And you look at the
facial expressions, you look at everything else. I know I'm
going deep into body language University, but the reality is
to me, that was a significant exchange. Yeah. We we
pointed out the kid and and also the Kyrie talking

(01:32:53):
about him being adults. Don't pin pinpoint little things due
anybody who thinks that's by accidents and the the even
the you know, the back and forth and when when
they were introduced, and and Hayward uh saying you know,
I have I'm looking forward to learning a lot from Kyrie. Oh,
you could not have said anything that would have made

(01:33:17):
Kyrie happier than having a a teammate who's actually a
couple of years older treating him, if not as a
mentor certainly as an equal. Um. Who is the creepy
guy behind the Warriors bench last night who looked exactly
who who tried to look exactly like lay Thompson? Have
you is that that may have been identified? Uh? You

(01:33:39):
know what, It's funny. So I was at the game,
so I wasn't really paying attention to the TV cameras,
and I didn't see that during the game. But as
I was going through the tunnel to the locker room afterwards,
there was a guy I kind of glanced at my
right and he was wearing I guess who was like

(01:34:00):
a Warrior's jersey, and yeah, he was being interviewed and
he was saying something about, yeah, I'll stay here until
I get you know, recognize whatever the hell it was.
And I didn't really pay attention to it. So I'm
vaguely aware of the guy that you're talking about. But
it's almost like the you've seen the mom in the

(01:34:22):
Golden State Warriors sweater who you know, stood up and
she does the dance and everything. She's kind of looked
no no offense to her. I think she I think
she's actually I think she has a and uh an
offspring who goes to the same school as my daughter does. Now,
um so I need to be careful, but I feel

(01:34:42):
like she's kind of jumped the shark. And we've got
you know, the Warriors are in that place now where
everybody wants to attach themselves to them one way or another.
And we're in the Bay Area, so we've got we've
got East centricity, but by the horns and and we're
gonna we're gonna have a babe a little bit more
of that than most. They are. They better than they
were last year. I think they have the chance to be,

(01:35:04):
but there are a lot of there's still a lot
of things that have to be resolved, and part of
it is just the dynamic of you've won a championship,
everybody's gunning for you, and you know, where where do
you take this? How do you stay healthy. How do
you Uh, you know the number one thing, and I

(01:35:27):
think you saw some of it last night. There number
one objective for uh Steve Kerr at this point is
he wants to get everybody to the finish line. And
so you you may see guys, you know, the main
guys averaging thirty thirty two minutes. Uh, and guys like
Jordan Bell and Patrick call getting a lot of run

(01:35:48):
during the regular season. And uh and even with all
of that, um, you know, while I would say that
they're better just because they have had a year together,
they've kind of figured out their roles. They've they've really
fine tuned, Like we want to have a roster full
of guys that can switch. And I don't think it's

(01:36:09):
any accident that Jabot mci was the only guy who
didn't play last night because he's the one guy that
he can't switch with every single position. Uh. But that said,
you take Draymond Green out of this equation number one
and andre Iguadala, and for all that they have, they
are not nearly the same defensive team. Teams can find

(01:36:31):
a way to isolate on Steph and the better teams
that are able to create that mismatch. Steph gave it,
gave it everything that he could last night. I mean
he was giving you everything you could defensively and still
in a matchup against James Harden, Uh, that's gonna be
a tough one on one matchup for him. And so
if you don't have Draymond and other guys where you

(01:36:52):
can make when they try to switch, like you can
put at least two defenders. You can put Clay and
Draymond out there. Now you put stuff on the third guy.
Now when they try to create a switch or a
pick and roll, Well, now you're going to the third
guy and you can trap the hell out of him
once he once he gets the ball and you're trying
to create that screen. So, um, they didn't have that dynamic.

(01:37:15):
And without that dynamic, I think there. Look, they're they're
not as invincible as people think they are. If they're healthy, yes,
but as we know health, as as the Celtics found
out last night, Yeah, there's there's no way for you
to ultimately control your health. Rick Buker from Bleacher Report
also has his own radio show as well on on
Serious Sex Sam Channel AD two. Great Stuff has always

(01:37:37):
loved that hoops season uh is here. You can't wait
to see some of these young guys and new guys
and guys who are waiting to see on new teams.

(01:37:58):
Luke Focus muld be good, then he sucked. I thought
Sam Donald was supposed to be good, but he's kind
of falling off. Who who's really elevating themselves a quarterback
in college football? Plus all right, I was never that
in on the Chiefs. But if not the Chiefs, who
in the a f C. Daniel Jeremiah joins us. We'll
discuss next. With True Car, you can find out what
other people in your area paid for the same car

(01:38:19):
you're looking for, and on average save over three thousand
m s r P. Whether you're looking for a new
or used car, Visit True Car and enjoying more confident
car buying experience. Doug Gotli Show, Fox Sports Radio, Aaron
Judge up, all right, we'll see how he does against
Dallas Kaiko. Dallas Kaiko's beard is amazing. He strikes out, shocker,
they're right, strike out, walk, home run. That's Aaron Judge baseball.

(01:38:43):
It's baseball two thousands, seventeen. As well as the Dallas
Kaiko beard. I just I know Kaiko has had the
beard for a long time. Plus he's cleanly shorn in
the back right, like he's got a nice little fade
going in the back. He's totally got the hipster thing,
like he can walk down the street in Brooklyn and
be there not Brooklyn and uh and yeah, Brooklyn and
looked good. But I just that kind of that just

(01:39:04):
looks itchy to me. Itchy to me. I don't know. Uh,
let's welcome in Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL Network. He
also has He and Bucky Brooks have an outstanding podcast. Um.
The Green Bay Packers lost Aaron Rodgers, so most think
their season is done. But Brett Hunley, once upon a
time was thought up to be a really good pro prospect,

(01:39:25):
very athletic at U c l A behind a terrible
offensive line. What's reasonable expectations? Uh? Daniel for what he
can do. Well, I think that I don't think they're done.
I mean, they're not gonna be the same team they
were Aaron Rodgers, and they're not a legitimate super Bowl
contender anymore. But I think they can still, uh potentially
be a playoff team with Brett Hunley. And this is
a guy that when you watched him when he first

(01:39:45):
got on the field of U c. L A, I was,
I can't wait to see what was gonna happen with
him because he had so much ability. I didn't think
he really progressed as much as I would have hoped
during his time at U c. L A. But then
you watched him to the preseason and I saw him
live in the preseason this year, and uh, and I
thought he'd cleaned some stuff up with his feet, and uh,
he's always had the arm in, the athletic ability and

(01:40:06):
the toughness. So and look, I see the kid played
last week getting thrown in there against Minnesota. They make
a couple of spectacular interceptions. Um, you know, I don't
I don't put a lot of that on him. I
think you give them some prep time and they'll cater
a game plan towards him, and I think they'll be competitive.
I wanted to ask you about Eli Manning. I left
the Giants for dead, mostly because his offensive line had

(01:40:28):
been bad and he didn't have any any of his
three starting wide receivers. And then he turns around, he
goes to Denver, of all places, to which you think
that that pass rush would get to him, and they
kind of control the game. They ran the football well,
obviously changed play colors. Uh how did that happen? How
did I mean? Like, if I had a bet on

(01:40:48):
one team winning last week, I'm not sure I wouldn't
have bet on the Denver Broncos. And yet the Giants
got got out to a good start, had a big lead,
and the Broncos could never make a push. How'd that happened? Well,
I think a couple of things. You know, I think
up front they played much better than they had. Uh.
You look at their ability to run the ball, control
the clock, and then to me, you know, I don't.

(01:41:11):
I was big of an Ingram fan coming out of
Old miss It total mismatch player. He's really a receiver
that plays tight end and this is the first time
we saw them. Because of everything that's missing around him.
He was the featured weapon in the passing game, and
people will make adjustments as we go forward. But in
this game, Denver was walking out a linebacker over him,

(01:41:31):
and that's he's a wide receiver. I mean, you listen
as a tight end, but he is a wide receiver.
He's a four four guy, so he was he was
able to create some separation and give Eli some easy throws.
So I think it's gonna get more difficult as teams
kind of adjust to what they have around Eli. And
I don't envision them winning a ton of ball games
unless they can do what they did, which is run

(01:41:51):
the ball, play great defense that I don't think they're
going to be an aerial assault team as we go forward. Alright,
So look, I was never all that in on the Chiefs,
even though they play Aids so well, just because you know,
I've seen this story, I know how you know how
it ends. So they lose, and now everybody's building the Chiefs.
On the other hand, it's not like Pittsburgh's this this
finally tuned machine. You have the problems defensively with New

(01:42:12):
England Patriots, and I'm struggling to find the team the
a f C that I do love. Help me out,
who should I love in the A f C. Wow?
Uh look that's a that's a tough one. Um you Still,
I still come back to the fact that you just
get the sense that New England will kind of figure
it out as they go along, and they're always there

(01:42:32):
at the end, so you don't ever write them off.
They'll kind of find a new formula. They're playing a
little bit better defensively, they'll get better on that side.
But I think it is I think it's pretty wide
open right now, more so than I can ever remember
in the A f C. And then you flip over
to the NFC and uh man, I was just thinking
about this today, Philly Philly Dug that they're sitting here.

(01:42:53):
I think they would have the number one seed if
the season ended today, and they're in a situation where
their achilles heel is their secondary and they're going to
get some guys back. When you look at Darby, who
has been hurt all year, they're winning without him in
the lineup, he comes back, he's their number one corner.
And then Sydney Jones, who everybody kind of forgot about.
It was a topick they got second round after an achilles,

(01:43:15):
he's starting to run a little bit, and I think
there's some hope that maybe he gets on the field
at the end of the year, so they could have
some reinforcements coming to a really, really good football team.
That's the voice of Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL Networkers,
joining us in the Doug Otli Show. Big Weekend in
college football, the two premier matchups are SC versus Netre
Dame and Michigan versus Penn State. Let's start with SC

(01:43:37):
and Notre Dame. Uh, there seems to be some cooling
on Sam Donald. Now only do college football coaches have
a greater book to prepare for him, They don't, you know,
Like look if they don't run it, well, they only
really got one wide receiver. He has a ton of
confidence in Are you cooling on Sam Donald like others are? No? No,
I was open game on Saturday, so I had a

(01:43:59):
chance to go watch it. And really, the thing that's
bothered me about Sam and just kind of some sloppy
ball handling. I know people point to the picks, but um,
you know, I can find some of him trying to
be too cute with the football. Um, and you see
some tips and you see some drops and that that
leads to some interceptions. The intersteptions haven't really bothered me.
But he's had four bumbles in the last couple of weeks.

(01:44:20):
I'd be a little bit crisper. But to me, when
you watch that game and they're down fourteen points against
a pretty good Utah team and he just completely takes
in the second half, I mean multiple third and long's
a fourth and nine plus something, making all kind of
plays and and really, if you look at throughout his
career when he's had an opportunity outside of outside of

(01:44:42):
the fumble at the end of the Washington State game,
he's come through every single time. And uh so, I
think people are gonna nitpick him. He's got fifteen touchdowns,
nine picks. We'll see what he does against Notre Dame.
But I think we could look up now that touchdown
interception ratio is gonna look a whole lot better Notre Dame,
better than we thought. I mean, you know, it's it's

(01:45:03):
interesting because against Georgia, they just look it looked like
an athletic mismatch against the Dogs, and and they had
a freshman starting quarterback, so they didn't. They didn't give
any chance to lose the game. As Notre Dame improved,
they better than we thought. What's happened to the Irish? Well,
they've got an outstanding offensive line, one of the best
offensive lines in the NFL, starry in college football, so

(01:45:24):
they're gonna have a chance to be in games, protect
the football with a really, really athletic quarterback. I still
have some concerns to them on the defensive side of
the ball. I think this will be a good test
form this week with that's coming down, But no, they're
physical on the offensive front of and you lose a
close game to Georgia and look where they're sitting right now. Man,
that that Notre Dame schedule. When you look at what
they have coming up, it is totally totally brutal. Daniel

(01:45:49):
Jeremiah joining us UH Michigan versus Penn State. Michigan's got
some issues obviously at quarterback, but defensively until the fourth
quartil late in the fourth quarter, they've been outstanding all year.
Going against State Kwon Barkley and Penn State. I feel
like this is gonna be a super close game. Vegas
does not agree. What are your thoughts, Well, if you've

(01:46:09):
got a Penn State team and even missing some guys
got smashed by this group last year, so there's some
there's some extra motivation involved there. I think Penn State
is a better football team on paper. I think State
Kwon Barkley will be by far the best player in
the stadium. Um I do. I think Penn State gets
this done and maybe it'll be close. I get the
sense that's kind of we'll see what happens in the

(01:46:31):
first quarter, because if if Penn State comes out and
gets rolling, I think they could pile it up pretty good.
But it's gonna be it's gonna be on Michigan to
keep this thing tight close. You mentioned the Washington State
laws for USC. Luke Falk throws five interceptions. Obviously not
in every every interception is on a quarterback. But coming
off the you know, coming off the outstanding second, third,

(01:46:51):
and fourth quarter performance against USC, suddenly he was shooting up.
Is this just a leveling off? What are your thoughts
on Luke Falk as of now? Well, I mean it happens.
You know, he just laid an egg. It happens. It happens.
People when you go back and look at Shawn Watson
had one or two games like that. I'm not saying
he's Deshaun Watson by any stretch, but every quarterback I
have a game or two where they don't have it
laid egg and and the turnover started really pile up.

(01:47:14):
I mean, I'm not gonna make this for him. It
was a bad one. You know. The UH talk to
some scouts that were up there at the game and
say it was kind of just a really weird environment
because all the fires in northern California, he said, Washington.
They came out for like a twenty minute warm up
before the game and they don't even know if they
were in pads. He said, it was still it was
a weird, weird vibe up there. It's always a weird
vibe up in Berkeley, and just that's true. But that

(01:47:37):
was like, like just I hate to be the guy
to point that out, but you know, they had they
had dudes and trees for three years and those trees
are playing and I see the people in the trees
outside several years ago, and I asked, maybe, which is
hard because there's a lot to choose from the dumbest
question I've ever asked in my entire life, which what

(01:47:58):
are they those buckets? What are they me in those
buckets up there for poop? And you know that, you
know they you know, they cut off the buckett. They
cut off the those lines for like a month, and
you know what they did. They threw poop off the edge.
They threw poop. So nasty. On that note, DJ, great

(01:48:18):
stuff man, thanks for joining us that that disgusting end
to a great football discussion. Brought to you by a
True Car. You can find out what other people in
near area paid for the same car you're looking for
and who are used. Visit True Car to enjoy more
confident car buying experience. Dan Bay, are you familiar with
the people in the that were in the trees at
cal Berkeley? Yeah, a little bit. I don't know about it,

(01:48:39):
but they would know. They were well before the football
stadium was redone. They were building an athletic performance center.
They had all the money, but they had to cut
down I don't know a handful of trees, some trees
that were in like this parking lot. Well, you know
it's Berkeley and they're more than just tree huggers there.
So people um started living in the trees for three

(01:49:00):
years now. The trees. It's not like there were some
hundred year old Sequoia's right. There are trees have been
playing in the nineteen fifties and sixties. But it's Berkeley.
It's berserkly. These things happen so um anyway, So they're
up there. My brother was an assistant coach there at
the time. They're up there for a couple of years,
and they finally get a quarter order to cut these
supply lines. And so in reaction to cutting the supply lines,

(01:49:24):
people were living in the trees started throwing poop and
anybody who walked by, and he used to say, they
reattached the supply lines. Then they got a court order
to physically remove these people. They physically removed them, took
down the trees, built the Athletic Performance Center, redid the
stadium to which they'll be in debt for for like
fifty years ago. What a bunch of crap. That story stinks.

(01:49:46):
Astro one more, we need one more, we need one more.
Le you got anything? Uh years have bad words? Take two,
John Um. The Astros and Yankees. That there you go.
There was Astros and Yankees Game five of the American
League Championship Series right now, top of the second inning,
no score is the series is tied up at to

(01:50:08):
a piece, but the Astros do ever runner on third
with two outs Massi Heiro Tanaka trying to get out
of this mini jam. Of course, you can see it
right now on Fox Sports one Dodgers and cups of
their game four the NLCS on TBS at nine Eastern
Dodgers going for the sweep tonight. A couple of other
NFL notes are a couple of notes from the NFL.
I should say the draft is gonna be held at

(01:50:30):
a T and T Stadium, the home of the Cowboys
in Arlington, Texas. No change is made to the anthem
policy for the NFL following the owners meetings in New
York and Colts GM Chris Ballard's his quarterback, Andrew Luck
is not gonna throw this week, experiencing sore nous in
that shoulder that he had operated on in the off season.
Had a quarter z own shot. So Andrew Luck won't

(01:50:51):
practice this week after doing so twice last week. Welcome
back Teddy Bridgewater practicing today for the first time since
suffering a serious knee injury fourteen months ago when the
Yankees did get out of that jam heading to the
bottom of the second ending scrolls with the astros dug
in game five and that's the voice of one dad.
Buy it. You can hear top half past the hour?
Are doing yeoman's work? Do you guys know what yeomans are?

(01:51:14):
And yeomen are? No? I'm not heard the term, but
you heard the term. I like this. I like doing this.
Do you guys? Did anybody? Um? Anybody want to? Like
you want to? You wanna take a shot there? I'll
take a gas. Is it somebody on boats? Um? Like good?
I too? Like sweep the boat and like watch the
boat top of the boat. The yeoman. Uh, it's funny,
you would think, but no, okay, no, Like honestly you

(01:51:37):
would you would think, but no, U ryan music, I
see you typing. Don't be looking it up. He's working.
I think he's actually working. Are you actually working? Or
it was? That's the different computer that is not the
one with the internet. It's do you want to wend?
Its four? He he plays it off really well, what

(01:52:02):
if it's the yeoman? You want take a shot? I
honestly don't even have a clue, Like I don't even
know what a guest would be. It's more like, um,
it's like an assistant, a personal social rank of yeoman.
Um it's uh who. According to John Ramos, roam the
Baltic seas. There actually there, actually is there actually is

(01:52:25):
if you look up like it can be like a
petty officer for like for the navy, right, but the
real yeoman is really like a servant of a noble house.
Was like a servant, right, Like you do all the
little things for somebody. So when they say yeoman's work,
it's you're doing all the little things that nobody wants
to do, which you do. I mean, that's that's kind

(01:52:46):
of a description. Dan. You have your show on the weekends.
I know you filled in for one of the Gorman's
on the other day. You do updates. Uh you made
uh um, you made me um some some tea one day.
I thought that was amazing. You wi you whittle things
out of wood. Yeah, you're an incredible brought in that
homemade butter you did you turn that day, you milk

(01:53:08):
the cow. You uh, you made the butter and then
you brought the butter in. It was remarkable. You do
yeoman's I hey, kudos to the crew for nobody saying
it was named after some guy named Yeoman that worked
really hard or did something like that. Yeah, you were,
it was you were. You had to go in with

(01:53:28):
the poop jokes for that one, that one that's so
much that was it wasn't it wasn't like it wasn't
as bad as Al Michael's jok on Monday Night where
they're like, whoa, listen, Doug, if you want me to
critique your comedy, we can do so coming up in
the press. But I'm not going to do that. Like it.
I'm not gonna do that really ouch. Whoa, hey, listen

(01:53:48):
speak permission to speak freely? Yeoman? I'm just kidding Yeoman
is Anyway, Well, we'll keep an eye on Yankees versus
uh Astros? Would we in the second inning? As you
heard bottom the second inning at the adium? Kaiko still
on the hill for the Astros. I think the big
question for Houston is like, do you if you win tonight?
I guess you used Verlander in six, but then what

(01:54:09):
do you do in seven? What are you in seven?
If you lose tonight or if you win tonight? Either one.
If you if you lose, you have to go with
Verlander because there is no seven. But if not, you
do you wait? Um going to be interesting and then
the Cubs down three games to none. But you know
there's the famous was Ruby, Rudy Tom Jonovits never underestimate

(01:54:32):
the heart of a champion. I've heard. I heard Patrion
Martinez say they don't have great energy. I just don't
think they've been that good. Starting pitching hasn't been that good.
In the bullpen has been more tax because it hasn't
been good. And the bullpen isn't nearly as good as
last year. Let's be honest. The Cubs are up a
tree without a poop bucket right now. That's how bad.
It Very nice, very nice. He brought it all together,

(01:54:52):
something I talked about weeks ago in the NFL. Looks
like it's going to happen. I'll tell you what that
is of coming next. What True Car You can find

Otlive Show, Fox Sports Radio. With True Car, you can

you area paid for the same car you're looking for,
and who are used Visit True Car to enjoying more
confident car buying experience. Let's quickly go to Dan Buyer
the press. All right, Dan, before you get to the press,
you got a little update for me. Major League Baseball
Greg byrd RBI single off of Dallas Kaiko with two
outs in the bottom of the second inning scored Starlin
Castro Yankees lead now one nothing in Game five heading

(01:55:37):
to the top of the third inning. You can see
it right now on Fox Sports. Wad you know what
he's doing, Ryan Music right doing updates, doing his fantasy
football team, doing Bob Yeoman's work. He's doing. He's doing
Yeoman's work. That's exactly what, uh he's doing, Yeoman's work.
I got a news on somebody who isn't doing work.
That's Andrew Luck. Not gonna practice this week's GM. Chris

(01:56:00):
Ballard announced today that Luck is experiencing sore nous in
that surgically repaired shoulders. So I got a quarter his
own shot. They hope that he won't be out for
too long. But Andrew Luck is not going to practice
this week. Something you did twice last week returning from
that offseason shoulder surgery. Yeah, they just keep like, ah,
you know, his shoulders not right. I don't know if

(01:56:21):
they're trying to, but we're getting closer and closer to
them shutting him down right for the year. And it's
at some point like, what is what is the point?
What is the point? It's actually what you say. Laramo
says every day when he shows the door, what is
the point? I'm on this thinking ship the Godlib show.
What now you kidding? We're flying high? Who lied? Uh?

(01:56:46):
Maybe the NFL owners, I don't know. They wrapped up
their fall meeting with no news, really saying there's no
change to the league's policy on the national anthem. Here's
the commission earlier today. We believe everyone should stand for
the national anthem. That's an important part of our policy.
It's also an important part of our game that we
all take great pride in. And it's also important for

(01:57:06):
us to honor flag and to our country, and we
think our fans expect us to do that. I love this.
I love this. Um, this to me is awesome. Right.
They announced that they had very productive meetings, incredibly productive meetings.
Is there a change in the policy. No, no, no, Um.
Do you still believe that players should stay in from

(01:57:28):
nash them? Yes, well some of them still protests, yes,
but those meetings were productive. Yes, I got it. Uh,
we've got production from Eagles defensive ed Chris Long donating
as ten game checks for the rest of the season
to launch an educational organization. He had already donated the

(01:57:48):
first six game checks to his alma mater as they
were coming up in Charlottesville. Chris Long donating the ten
checks today to an educational organization. So about that for
Chris Long. Dude, I struggle to give money to the
dude at the end end of the freeway who says
he's a vet and he just needs five bucks, right,
I mean, I'm just Chris Long is a better human

(01:58:09):
being than I am. Plus they have the water Boys
thing as well that he's already donated money in time too.
He's just an outstanding human being. Browns are gonna have
rookie quarterback to Seaun Kaiser is starting in Week seven
against the Titans. It's not the only quarterback news of
the day. Doug Jameis Winston limited in practice today because
of a sprained a C joint in his shoulder and
Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater practice today for the first time

(01:58:32):
since suffering a serious knee injury fourteen months ago. Just
important to remember he's cleared to practice, not to play,
So don't expect to see Teddy Bridgewater anytime the next
couple of weeks. How about this the Vikings case Keenum
faring well case. Keenum always has a a good streak
and then maybe it turns bad at some point. But
the Vikings at least all right with Keenom taking over
for Sam Bradford. And yeah, it's gonna be a while

(01:58:53):
for Teddy Bridge. Got a story for you. Yeah, what's up?
A second grade boy slept for eleven straight days inside
of Kentucky House recently woke up. They just still don't
know what caused him to have a slumber eleven straight days.
Eleven Now. Look, part of it is he has problem
with seizures, the new seizure medication, but he's fine. They
just can't figure out eleven straight days. That to me

(01:59:16):
is amazing and bizarre. And I'll just say this, I'm
one of these people. There's a finite time to which
I can sleep per day. Now I know that if
you ever have one of those days which is like
raining outside and you sleep, you wake up, you sleep
and wake up. But for the most part, if I
go to bed like nine or get a bed ten,
I'll wake up at like four thirty five, I'll feel great.

(01:59:37):
But I'm like, damn, what do I do now? Just
the most I can sleep. The amazing thing about that
kid was that he wanted his fantasy football game and
didn't even change his lineup. I lost my fantasy football
game because I didn't change my thanking You got anything else, Yeah, yeah,
I got a couple fired. Louisville men's basketball coach Rick
Patino told ESPN in a interview that he had no

(01:59:58):
knowledge that payments were made to Read Group Brian Bowen.
In fact, Patino told j Billis that he passed a
line detector test twice when asked if he knew about
the money given to Bowen or if he knew about
the Adidas payments. He didn't know. He didn't know, Doug okay, right, Yeah,
he didn't know. All these bad things keep happening. They

(02:00:18):
got prostitutes in the dorm, recruiting players. I didn't know nothing.
They're recruiting players from Adidas game. The hundergrand I didn't
know nothing. Like for a guy who knows the weight
and body the body mass index of all his assistant coaches,
he sure doesn't know a whole hell of a lot
else going on over I got some NBA notes Bulls

(02:00:38):
forward Bobby Portis, who spended eight games. We touched on
that earlier without pay for punching Nicola murrotitch yesterday and
Merritage reached for comment said, it's cold, dog, that's cold.
That was It was actually like this because he probably
his jaw large shut, right, was Joe's. Yeah, it punched

(02:01:03):
me in the fush. It punched me in the fush.
It's not right. Rockets point guard Chris Paul questionable for
tonight against the King's because of a sore knee. Of course,
he wasn't on the floor at the end of last
night's win against Golden There was Dwayne Wade at the
end of the Calves win over the Boston Celtics. Finally,
a Divisioned three football school canceled the rest of their
season because they ran out of players. Occidental College here

(02:01:24):
in southern California just put an end to their season,
which included two forfeited games that are No. One three starts.
They canceled the final four games after they were down
to thirty five players in just one healthy defensive line.
Their team was executed. We got an audible laugh. We
got able laugh after he said, my, my, my humor
wasn't funny. Listen, listen, you think a shot at me?

(02:01:47):
So you think I'm just gonna it wasn't funny. That's
what friends, real friends, really, you have real friends. I
like that. Wasn't it funny? Dude? That wasn't That wasn't
We were making too many poop jokes. You know, did
you see my tweet lasts on Twitter? Well where else?
With your tweet up here? I don't know. I don't know, Doug.
You don't follow me or Ryan Music? You know what's
up with that? Doug? What's up that you do follow

(02:02:11):
ramos but you did follow me at one point? All
of ramos is I can't see because they may be
um uh, they may not be a pass f W. Yeah,
not not safe for workplace exactly. That's exactly what it is.
John's quoting retweets a lot Reggie Bush, Hunter, Henry and

(02:02:32):
Michael Lombardi tomorrow looks like the production christinny Kat's been
doing her job. We still don't know what Ryan Music does.
We know that Dan Buyer does Yelman's works, so too
does Does does does Ramos. We'll see if the Dodgers
eliminate the Cubs tonight. They need Cubs need to go
away all their fans, but they're still new Cubs hats.
