Hey, what up? What you hope you're doing great?
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Oh no, no, no, you're just you're too kind.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
You're too kind.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Well do you think, guys we look back and then
look forward or do you guys just want to look forward?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Sause I.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Here's the problem with the show today, Dan Bayer and
uh with Big Apple Sam. The problem is that Jason
is so he's either really convinced his Dodgers are going
to lose or he's doing the reverse psychology thing because
he was convinced they would lose Game four only they
didn't that. There's just really no going to him today
(01:18):
to talk about the Dodgers because it's all.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Gloom and doom.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
So I just like struggle because I want to engage
with my producer and a guy who has literally watched
every Dodger baseball game this year, But I also know
what's coming out of his mouth, so I don't really
want to. Do you have, buyer, Do you have any
advice on how I should proceed?
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Well, if you look back, you're going to get negativity
for me. If you look forward, you're going to get
negativity from Jason. So pick your poisoned Doug.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Why would I get negativa from you?
Speaker 4 (01:51):
I thought you were talking about looking back at the
Seahawks for whiles.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Oh oh oh, I was sorry. I just went out
went to baseball. Yeah. Yeah, you want a vent?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
You want the floor? I mean it's totally cool. I
mean you know I would expect the same on your
show if the Chargers or my team at Green Bay
or Oklaoma State, you know, like we could I could vent.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Do you want Do you want a minute?
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Well, I'll just say this, I think that a lot
of the conversation is is san Francisco now getting back
on track. Now you wonder when Christian McCaffrey is going
to come back, and Jordan Mason's dealing with his shoulder injury,
which they don't believe is as serious as maybe first feared.
But you still have a short handed backfield heading into
(02:35):
a game against Kansas City coming up in a week
and a half. So those are all big deals. I
get it, I get the forty nine ers of the headliners,
but this is also a part of a twofold conversation, Doug,
and one of those sides is that the Seahawks again
have fallen into irrelevancy. Yes, and they are a team
that you really don't need to talk about, but if
(02:57):
you do talk about them, it's like a two way
missing golf. I have no idea what is going to
show up, both offensively or defensively. And if you're a
Seahawks fan, you look at this last stretch. It's no
shame in losing to the forty nine ers and no
shame in losing to the Lions. Probably should have beaten
the Giants, but Giants played better than they did the
(03:19):
entire game. And it's the fact of you let Jared
goff two weeks ago, three weeks ago in Week four,
not throw an incomplete pass in a game. Then you
have the forty nine ers last night run for over
two hundred yards against you, and they are missing a
first round pick a defensive lineman Byron Murphy. But that's
not the end all be all. Then you have an
(03:40):
offense that can cook with Kenneth Walker the third running
the football something that they were going to correct from
last week's heirs, and so they give them the ball
this week and they averages two point three yards per carry.
Gino Smith was off last night. Just have no idea
what team is going to show up, and it's like
you don't know if you're going to hook or slice it,
so you can't even prepare for one or the other.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Was my takeaway from last night.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Did you have to go hook our slicet that you
don't know, Like now you've just goribbed my golf game.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
That's just not that's well, that's.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
The best analogy to play.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
You know, I'm left and then guess what that's when
you hit it straight or you hook one and.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Correct correct, So uh, jay Stu, I mean, look, I'm
looking on my sheet here and I know you want
me to talk about the Niners in Seattle, But here's
my question, why can't we just be honest? Like that
game meant nothing, It just did.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Now here.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Well, there was one thing I want to take away.
I there is one misconception I should point out, like
the Seahawks uniforms last night were outstanding, right, that you
could admit with damn byer correct, right, Yeah, I love.
There is one point about it though, that because I
(04:55):
was thinking about tweeting, Hey, nineties music and uniforms are better.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Don't believe me.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Look at the Seahawks and listen to Pearl Jams catalog.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
Right.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
The problem with it is.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
In the nineties they weren't as clean as clean cut.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
It wasn't. It just wasn't.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Like they've taken the styles which are way better, you know,
whether it's more form fitting, they're just cooler fabrics, whatever,
and then they've incorporated the color schemes and designs of
previous years and that's why those throwbacks are so good.
But all of that aside, I just don't think on
any level anyone historically is going to talk about Niners
(05:38):
Seahawks on Thursday night on Amazon and Again, that doesn't
mean that Dodgers Padres in the DS lines up with
some of the great NLCS or World Series moments, but
it is. These are defining moments for some of the
best players in the sport, and honestly could be a
defining moment for the best player to ever play the sport.
(06:00):
So as much as I understand where a football culture,
the Niners gotta win. Brock Purty played well, they ran
the football all over them. They suffer more injuries the
you know, you look at the competition.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
They're banged up as well with the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
But all of that aside, it's a nothing NFL game,
and this is a game with the greatest player in
the history modern history of Major League Baseball in Shohiotani
and a litany of other All stars, and somebody's going
home after tonight.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Somebody's going home tonight.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
I just think the Dodgers Padres game is bigger, and
even though we rarely talk about baseball, this is one
in which baseball should should be bigger, at least on
the topic line than what we're doing or what else
is going on in hoops going on in the NBA
as well.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Agreed disagree discuss Dan byer.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Well, I actually I think that the forty nine ers
role in this is big than you're saying. And to
compare playoff baseball to NFL regular season games are a
little tricky when you're talking about legacy and when you're
talking about that sort of conversation. I do think as
a whole more people probably cared about last night, whether
it be for fantasy, your betting purposes, or how things
(07:18):
play out. So they had maybe more interest in that
game last night than maybe what will happen tonight. I
do think sometimes we get to be prisoners of the
moment or prisoners of our location. And in Southern California,
and I know you're in Wisconsin, but in Southern California,
you know this is the series, this is the thing
(07:38):
everybody's getting set for tonight. I don't know how that
translates to the rest of the country, even with the
game being on Fox tonight. I'm not sure that that
sort of message of a NLDS matchup really transcends the
rest of the country, especially in areas where New York
and they're all up in the Yankees in Met's action.
Maybe they don't care who they play. Maybe they are,
(08:00):
but especially then maybe in other places, I don't know
if it resonates as much.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
All right, well let's let's let's dive in kind of
quickly here to the Diners Kyle Shaney and talked about
their red zone efficiency and Brock Purty, Brock.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Saying that because there's a few plays he could have
been more decisive on and had, but that's not the
whole red zone struggles and you struggle running the ball
and have a lot of great looks and then you
miss a few that we could have scored on. And
Broxon always owned up to that stuff. That wasn't really
the theme. He was real decisive today. It made two
big time thrills there on third down. Was a step
in my direction.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
At least here's Brock Perdy talking about his own performance
as well as George Kittle.
Speaker 7 (08:36):
Comes out of that component of trust.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Man.
Speaker 7 (08:38):
That's how that's both of them. Both touchdowns were just
a trust factor. So some that we've continued to grow at,
you know, throughout the offseason and throughout the games that
we've played together. And then tonight it showed really well,
So very proud of him just seeing Bernardo get his
interception Malick on the defensive side. Man, that always fires
us up on the offense. And then obviously Isaac getting
in at the end and pulling away. For those guys
(08:59):
to step in, Man, it's the NFL. It's you know,
this ain't college and it's the real do You're playing
against the best of the best.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
And so for those guys to show up.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
On Thursday night, a primetime game like that, it means
a lot to all of us as a team.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Steut Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
So that's it right now, we're like, oh, okay, brock
Perty's back to being a man.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
All is right with the Niners.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
I would only I would contradict what you're saying, Dan,
just from this perspective that while you're right, it's also
quite fair to say, aren't most teams that up and down?
And you're talking to me your Seahawks is your team, But
I mean, the Niners weren't good last week. Go back
(09:41):
through most of these teams. Kansas City has had games
they've won that they haven't played well. Can't you say
that about most anybody? But that if you don't like
how somebody plays.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Wait, not in the way that they lose jergged off
to again, didn't throw incomplete passing Week four. Last night,
they gave up over two hundred and twenty yards rushing,
including in a spot where they needed to get a
stop at the end of the game. And the first
carry is run seventy six yards by a third string
running back at best. That's even counting Elijah Mitchell, who's hurt.
(10:14):
So Grenda could be a fourth string running back. So
when you're trying to become relevant in the NFL again,
like the Seahawks are and Russell Wilson is such a
topic a conversation, you want to talk about a lose
lose situation in terms of notoriety. Seahawks made the right
trade deal in getting rid of Russell Wilson, but they
both have lost their relevance without having a star quarterback.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Right now, I think the.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Seahawks are just I get it, nobody wants. It's probably
why I'm talking about them not being relevant. It's the
only thing that I can really talk about that I
think people would be interested in. But they got a
lot of players that you know names, and their uniforms
look great. I call them the eighties and nineties throwbacks.
I think that they just do it for the nineties
to adhere to that sort of crew. But yeah, they're
(11:00):
just kind of there. And the forty nine ers last
week probably should have beaten the Cardinals. If you had
a healthy kicker for the entire game, it probably works
out a better for them. But this can also be
a turning point for San Francisco when you look at
the NFC right now and you say, all right, who
is really good? Who's about to make that turn outside
of Minnesota right now and probably Detroit, And I think
(11:22):
that the forty nine ers getting back to three and
three in a division that is very winnable, I think
this could be looked at as a turning point for them.
By the way, as we have been talking, Christian McCaffrey
will not have his practice window open according to Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
So they don't expect him in Week seven against Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (11:39):

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Jason Stewart, would you want to add?
Speaker 8 (11:57):
Dan just talked about this rookie Herendo. That's the name,
that's how we're gonna spell it, here Rendo. I had
a hard Gndo Isaac Garrende. I heard Herbstreet last night
say out of Louisville, and I thought about what Doug
says about this transfer portal thing. How when you do
transfer after four years and you play your fifth year
(12:19):
for one team, you're you're not of the team you
were with, and you're not of the team you played
your fifth year with. So this kid plays four years
at Wisconsin, and Kirk Karbstreet says Isaac Correndo out of Louisville,
And that kind of proved Doug's point. But anyways, if
you're in this kid's shoes and you have a chance
to score your first NFL touchdown and your team is
(12:41):
already up by a score, so putting your team up
two scores almost does nothing about the clock. I think
he said he was hearing people on the sidewine get down,
But your first NFL touchdown on a seventy plus yard run.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Yes, were you?
Speaker 8 (12:56):
How surprised were you that he slid? Why did he slide?
What's the matter off there?
Speaker 1 (13:02):
I didn't understand it. I didn't understand either. Plus I
do think it's amazing that you have that. Wherewithal who
was I talking about this with? I was talking about
with oh to it an NFL player? I was stuck
with about how I think it was? With Aj Dillon,
(13:22):
I was on his podcast. I was talking about how like,
literally the greatest feeling in sports is when you break through.
And again, I played football until high school, you know,
but I remember being a little running back or being
a quarterback and holding a bootleg and beating guys off,
being guys to the edge, and then all you have
is guys behind you and you're right and then and
(13:46):
you realize you see grass and nobody in between you
and the grass, and you look over your left shoulder
and there's nobody coming to get you with the angle.
It's an incredible feeling. Imagine being that woman and she's
got to have a friend or two in Vegas that
handed off to her, you know, her hands, her husband's
off to her. And yeah, I mean it's got to
(14:09):
be an unbelievable, unbelievable feeling for him to go and
have the seventy seven yards and then have the wherewithal
to slide like that part is ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
Go ahead, Yeah, I was gonna say.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Here's the other great thing about this was I actually
think he was tripped up a little at the end.
I didn't think that Devin Witherspoon got his foot. But
sliding doesn't help them in that situation. Seattle had all
three of their timeouts. They don't run the clock out
for him going down, So for him to kind of
go down before the coal line, they actually still needed
(14:45):
to score because if Seattle would have gotten a stop,
it would have been an eight point game and there
still would have been a minute on the clock. So
him even sliding down at that point it was twenty
nine to twenty four when he did it, it would have.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
Been thirty two twenty four if the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Could actually somebody, but they couldn't, so then they scored
and made it thirty six twenty four. But it wasn't
even a heads up play in doing it, because San
Francisco would rather have been up two scores than to
try to run a couple of more plays and try
to put it into the end zone.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
I also think some of that the some of the
stoppage thing has changed, hasn't it. And they changed a
little bit of the clock means up. You're right about
the three timeouts.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Yeah, they had to use one after the run, so
that was after first down. But they could call a
time out first and second down with a minute thirty left,
and then you'd kick a field goal and you'd maybe
give Seattle forty to fifty seconds on the clock up eight.
So yeah, not all, not all decisions are good decisions.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
No, no, no, but usually those are discussed in the huddle.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
But when it's a seventy seven yard run, you can't.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
Yeah, you can't be like if you break one loose
step out of bounds.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (15:54):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon on Fox
Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Stug Attlab Show Fox Sports Radio. You know how this
is really confusing you guys. Ever sees any of these
AI quotes you ever said, and you're like, is that
real or is that fake? So I saw this quote,
and I was like, maybe it's Ai. I don't know,
but this is a quote from Arthur Smith, who member
(16:28):
former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. He was the
offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans, and he's the offense
court now for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He said, in regards
to Justin Fields, there's no drama to him. He doesn't
try to live through his avatar or create perception. That's
probably why he was so endearing to his teammates in Chicago.
(16:50):
Extremely coachable, extremely right.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Okay, So if you just take the quotes.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
At wholesale value, you just kind of look at him like, oh,
that's great.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Like a young guy. Justin Fields is not old. It's
only been like a couple of years.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
You're like, okay, he's not part of this new young
generation that lives through their avatar.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
That's all about likes.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
But then when you wait, you're talking about creative perception
and endearing to his teammates in Chicago, and you start
to wonder, Wait, Russell Wilson's getting healthy but still not
going to get the job back, and it's not like
Justin Field to set the world on fire. That's a
backhanded remark at Russell Wilson.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Isn't it? I mean, isn't it?
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Because most people I know, and I can't say I
know everybody who thinks this way. I don't know anyone
who thinks otherwise in the NFL. But again, I'm not
willing to say everyone thinks this. But most people in
the NFL I know, and many fans think, well, Russell
Wilson is trauma. He tries to create a perception and
(18:08):
he's not endearing to his teammates, which is the opposite.
I mean, Arthur Smith is telling you're like, why.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Are they starting justin Piale.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
It's like he's just okay, he kind of runs it
or whatever, like because people like him. Life is on
some levels a popularity contest, and everybody's kind of done
with the whole Russell Wilson act. There's just no way
you can see it otherwise. I don't believe. I guess
remember whether there was all those was it Nats or
(18:36):
what was it when they're locusts? That I was crazy
in Cleveland once upon time in the playoffs. Let's welcome man.
Of course, he's the former general manager of the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers. Say, twenty years in the NFL front offices
and scouting. He's Mark Dominic. He joins in the Doug
Outleab show on Fox Sports Radio. Mark, I don't know,
did you hear those Arthur Smith comments that I read?
(18:58):
Or would you like me reading again to you?
Speaker 10 (19:00):
Shoot him back to me, please?
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Arthur Smith said about Justin Fields, there's no drama. He
doesn't live through his avatar to create a perception. That's
probably why he was so endearing to his teammates in Chicago.
Extremely coachable, extremely bright.
Speaker 10 (19:15):
Well, I mean that's I mean Arthur Smith. Certainly it's
glowing recommendation and he's done a good job. I mean,
Justin I did not expect just the Field to have
this kind of success either. At Fitzperg. I thought that,
you know, this was going to be Russell Wilson's team
once he's healthy. Clearly, Russell Wilson sounds healthy, and Justin
Field gets a good team to hold onto the range
and go play the Raiders. So you know, again it's
(19:36):
Sam Darnold two point oh. Maybe maybe not to that level,
but it shows you that sometimes the situation, schemes, fit systems,
all that kind of stuff can play a part into
what a player can actually be, and that's some of
the unluckier the luckiness of being the quarterback and where you.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Get selected, no question, but it does feel like that
could be taken as backhand or marks at Russell Wilson.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Could it not?
Speaker 10 (20:00):
Oh yeah, you can absolutely see it that way. I
don't think it was intended that way. My gut instinct
is considering, but I could see where you could absolutely
you know, it takes a shot and say, you know,
this is what held Russell Wilson back this entire time.
This is what we saw Russell Wilson be in Denver,
and maybe it's what you know for the big decision
for Pete Carroll and John Schnyder when they let Russell
(20:21):
Wilson out. Maybe it's been something that's been growing and
getting worse and that's effected this play like we've seen
some other quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Set got the show here on Fox Sports Radio. Let's
go to the Jets. What was your reaction to Robert
Robert Soli being fired?
Speaker 10 (20:34):
That shocked. I think, just like everybody, didn't make a
lot of sense to me. It felt early when I
first read it, Actually, Doug, I was like did I
read that right? And you know, obviously now Todd Downey
is going to do the play calling where you know,
coach Hackett's going to be relieved of those duties, but
not off the staff. Seemed to me like that would
have been a lot easier, just obvious thing to do,
since that's where it went to. So I got to
(20:56):
think that Robert Sala and either Woody Johnson he didn't
Johnson didn't like some advanswers of what's going on and
felt like he wasn't in control. I heard that Joe
Douglas is not a fan of the decision. You know,
as a GM, you've got to stand up for what
you really believe in. So it's a mess. We're gonna
see if there's anything that's really different here. But you know,
(21:17):
Robert sal will be a defensive corner if he wants
to coach the league next year, as he's taken the
Jets salary for one more year.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Do you believe that Aaron Rodgers he is not, even
because Aaron Rodgers had a conversation with Woody the night
before they fired. The night before they fired Robert Sala,
Aaron Rodgers claims he had no idea.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
I had no idea.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Now here's a guy who recruited Green Bay Packers, his
hand picked offense quinner just got demoted.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
It's just kind of a feed him from Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Do you believe the story that he never found out
the before and found out when everybody else found out
when he was looking at this into the train room.
Speaker 10 (22:02):
I have a feeling Whatdy Johnson probably went to Aaron
and said, what's wrong with the team, And maybe he
said the guys aren't listening, or you know, maybe Robert
Solad said something to you know Whatdy Johnson about making
a move with Nate Hackett, and he asked what he
thought on you know, Nate Hackett not being a play caller,
and Aaron's like, why would you do that? You know,
I can see that kind of conversation. I don't think
Whatody Johnson said should a fire Robert Sawa to Aaron Rodgers.
(22:25):
I would hope he wouldn't because I wouldn't think. You know, again,
that's where the concern is is why do you have
a general manager? And it's not Aaron Rodgers to be
the general manager. That's but I do think that maybe
they had discussions about the frustrations in the offense and
trying to figure out what's going on, and of course
made Hacket's not can get thrown to the bus by
Aaron Rodgers. It's it's it's uh. This one's the one
(22:48):
that we're going to take away and see as we
get through the next few weeks and see if there's
anything that really changes here. I think the Jets defense
will still be fine. I think that they're going to
be in good shape. But when they play Buffalo now
they turn around, play Pittsburgh and then a game that
they should win, they geinst the Patriots, and then they
got the Texans. Let's find out what these Jets are.
But the problem really is, to me, Doug, the offensive
(23:08):
line wasn't fixed, still isn't fixed. And that's the real
truth of why this brief hall can't get going. That's
why Aaron Rodgers doesn't get comfortable. And I would say
that Aaron Rodgers does not look like a four year
old Tom Brady in terms of the decision making, quickness,
move getting the ball out. It doesn't seem the same.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
No, it doesn't seem okay. So is this fixable?
Speaker 10 (23:29):
I don't think you could fix an offensive line during
the season. That's the hard part about it. That's why
sometimes it's not sexy in the off season the sign
offensive lineman no one loves the draft and says, boy,
look at all these great, great guys that we drafted
at the offensive line. You know, here's your A plus
for your draft grade. So I mean again, I think
they looked to try to fix it. They went with
older players that have been banged up a little bit.
(23:51):
I think Joe Tipman's played well inside, but the rest
of the line, I don't think it's played. They've played
old or they've played poorly, and I think that that
just continues Hunt. They cannot get the running game going.
And I don't think it's the running back that does
not run the ball anymore. I think it's the system
that they're running or the offensive line that they're running.
They're not walking together.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Stuck Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, I'm
super intrigued by what happens next there. As Mark Domins,
our guest spent twenty years in the NFL front offices
and scouting, former general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Okay,
I'm I'm trying to figure out, just figure out. Okay,
(24:34):
where was it the Seahawks or the Niners? Like that game?
It was sort of close, but man, the Niners, even
without Christian McCaffrey, just like insert anybody, they can run
the football. Was last night's win more about the Seahawks
just not being that good or about the Niners figuring
something out?
Speaker 10 (24:51):
I think it was about the Niners figuring something out,
you know, getting to put everything together. And you're right,
you know, it seems like you know every he's like
when Christimer captains in the wow, look what they can do.
But then you know, Mason goes in a while that
they can do, and then Garendo Garriendo goes in and
wow look. I mean it was just, you know, this
system so great. That's why so many people are coming
(25:12):
off of this tree, and that's why so many people
were receiving success in other areas because of how comfortable
it is to work in the system. I think it
was a more important game for Brock pretty than anything else.
I think it showed, you know, he was able to
spin the ball around to like six, seven or eight
different targets and looked very comfortable. But they just dominated
to me, this is the forty nine ers having the
offensive line out there in asserting themselves, the saying, look,
(25:33):
we can do either way. We can beat you on
the ground or we can beat you in the air.
And they did both. And so you know, all though
the games somewhat felt close, you know, certainly it felt
like in the end the better team won. And that's
supporting nine Ers by far.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Yeah, not particularly, not particularly goes is the Doug Gottlieb
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. I watched Deshaun Watson
play this year, and I just I don't know what
you do there. If you're a general manager, what do
you do with Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 10 (26:05):
Yeah, I don't disagree. It's obviously not coming back. All
the distractions, whatever's going on inside of his head, the
different losses that come and go. It feels like a
guy that's lost the love of the game or just
can't get out of depression or something else that maybe
(26:26):
is going on. Because it's nowhere near the guy that
we saw at Houston when he was there and looked
like a top five quarterback in the National Footballleague. It's
all come off, and so you know, if you're the
Cleveland Browns. You know, they kept peeling the band aid
off to make the wound worse, and they kept moving
money around to make the situation tougher. And I know
there's lots of rumors that they may try to trade
(26:47):
him and give up collateral to get him off the books.
They may have to do that if they can find
a partner, even if it's not going to be all
the CAPI part of it. You know, at this point,
you live it in your bed, You made your veggie,
You're gonna lie in it. I think you're gonna have
to sit there and watch Deshaun Watson play at least
halfway through the season and then if you want to
pull the ball and give it to Jamis, because you
(27:08):
don't want something to happen from an injury perspective, even
though he's on the cook. As long as he's healthy,
it's a lot easier to trade him, even if you're
trading him for you know, giving up draft collateral to
get rid of him. But this is just a disaster
for Cleveland, and you know, it's a it's a situation
that you know, as you made that decision to trade
(27:29):
for him, and all the things that are going on
around him. Sure, certainly you're paying for it right now.
And that is a rough decision for this franchise. And
I got I gotta tell you, Doug, teams that didn't
get him have probably breathed a heck of a five
relief that they dodged the bull because some of those
best deals are the ones you don't do, no.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Question, no question at all.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
That happens in our recruiting Abison College recruiting, happens in
the NFL, happens in the NBA, absolutely true. Mark Dominsar guests,
of course a long time remember of the Tampa front office.
He was a general manager of Tampa Buccaneers. He joins
us on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
What's DeVante Adams that true value?
Speaker 8 (28:09):
Like?
Speaker 10 (28:10):
Yeah, I mean you know, I've said I think you
can probably get a two for them. I know a
lot of people are worried about his contract, but I
think you could probably you would ask for it to certainly,
if I'm Tom Peleusca, that's what I'm asking for. I
think you've got to get to a couple more weeks
until you get down to a three where you're saying, hey, look,
we realize this is not going to happen and it's over.
I just worry about this, and I worry that as
(28:33):
a GM, you're setting a precedent. So if a guy
doesn't want to be there, he has to complain enough
publicly and you'll get rid of him. Well, does that
mean Max Crosby can do it? And in two years
from now brock Bowers can do it. And you know,
you just got to be very careful as a GM
how you walk through this decision, because it does set
a precedent within your organization to say, hey, just be
(28:54):
a bad guy and you can get out of here.
And you've got to understand that that's just isn't how
it's going to work. So I think coach Pierce is
in a unique spot. He certainly needs to have as
many conversations with him and DeVonta Adams got to get
back on the football field and produce. It's easy to
be frustrated on the bench. You know, go out there
and play and see how you perform, and then you
know it's not like they weren't throwing to the ball,
(29:14):
Doug he was averaging nine nine looks a game.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Mark ray Stuff has always been enjoyed the football this weekend.
Thanks for being our guests.
Speaker 10 (29:23):
You bet my plays play Stark.
Speaker 9 (29:25):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Easter noon Pacific.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Stug Gottleep Show, Fox Sports Radio. This is weird. I
was listening to.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
The late Toby Keith last night with a buddy check
out the Northern Lights. And now, of course, uh I know,
I Sam, Why uh Sam? Why did you play Toby
Keith just for me?
Speaker 3 (29:59):
I play for you?
Speaker 11 (30:00):
But I pulled this song earlier in the week and
I don't know, just weird. Just a synergy there.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
I guess it's incredible synergy. That's what we do here,
incredible synergy, incredible synergy. Doug gottlib Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. Yeah, it was there. Have you guys ever
seen the Northern Lights? The Northern Lights were on full
display last night in uh northeast Wisconsin.
Speaker 11 (30:27):
I saw a lot of pictures from all of the
Midwest looked at Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Really amazing.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
I don't really know what what do we know? What
causes them? Does anybody? I mean something?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Northern and the.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Lights magnetic fields and I got it?
Speaker 1 (30:42):
But is it like, is this like the ozone layer
being worn down? Is there a little warming.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Thing to it?
Speaker 2 (30:47):
It's a normal thing.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
Yeah, it's normal.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
I don't remember anybody ever pointing out the Northern lights previously.
Speaker 11 (30:55):
Well, there's that old Simpsons quote where you know Seymour
the houses on fire. He's like, no, mother, it's just
the Northern lights. Ryan Berschinger is in the back hill
like that. That's the Northern Lights have been around forever.
Speaker 7 (31:06):
No.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
I know the Northern Lights have been around there forever,
but it feels like they like I saw pictures from
Nashville and Indy they did.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
They dipped really low into the south this time. It
was a little bit of it.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
What's that about.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (31:17):
It's an interaction, that's what it is. It's an interaction
of the solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field. The
solar wind consists of charged particles emanated from the Sun.
These are captured by the Earth's magnetic field and drawn
towards the poles at a very high speed.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Oh uh, okay, I don't know what that means. Sure,
but but but sure, yeah, okay, I get it.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Sure, let's get to the press. Let's get to a game.
Speaker 9 (31:48):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Dan Bayer, what's the game today?
Speaker 4 (31:57):
The game today is I got dis All right, this
is where I throw it out a topic and we
got DIBs. By the way, did you realize this is
on social media last night? And I didn't hear the
official announcement, but Candlebox played their last ever live show
last night at halftime of the Seahawks forty nine Ers game.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
I did not know that.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
Yeah, they are retiring. They announced it last year, so
they went on a tour this year. I think they
were actually recently in southern California. But the word is
that they are retiring. And I saw on TikTok someone
said it was their last show period. I don't know
if that is the case or not, but they're going
to be hanging up anyway, Candlebox.
Speaker 11 (32:35):
I would pay money to see Candlebox because they're kind
of an underrated, like kind of nineties and now I can't.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
No, now you can't pay it be able to do anymore?
Speaker 4 (32:42):
All right, Time for I got DIBs. Topic number one
Baseball rivalries.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Baseball rivalries, Baseball, I got dips all right, Red tex Yankees.
I understand it's not what it used to be. I
totally get that.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
But if you are.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Live back when I shouted radio and at three, you
would know that it was everything. I mean, Red Sox
Yankees is everything people actually care. I know Dodger fans
care like they show up for mallion people a year.
But listen, I've heard Dodger talk a bunch ja Stu
used to do.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Uh it used to do local radio.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
But it's not like like Red Sox Yankees, a full
year thing and bigger. There's a lot that Bigger than NFL,
bigger than NBA, bigger than everything, huge deal.
Speaker 8 (33:38):
I got dems on Dodgers giants.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
I know.
Speaker 8 (33:41):
I've been working down by long enough now to know
when he's trying to goad me into something like he's
trying to goad me into saying that the Podres have
surpassed the Giants with our arrivals, and that's just wrong.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Dan, that.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
Is you know, he's he's warm, but this is the
reason why the topic was made. So then Jason would
say Dodgers giants for everybody that wants to make this
Dodgers padres for as much as Packers Vikings has been something. Sorry,
it's just not gonna top Packers Bears. Just doesn't, just doesn't.
Speaker 8 (34:19):
But the reason, the Dodgers Padres is more of a
recent rival, and it's more of a Padres thing than
a Dodger thing. The Padres don't go back to the
polo grounds in New York. They didn't spend the first
half of the twentieth century going at it on the
East Coast and then brought the rivalry west. Sure, so
(34:39):
that's my case. But I'm not going to be goaded
by buyer.
Speaker 11 (34:43):
Gouded a big apple Sam here, I'll take Mets Phillies, of.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Course you will.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
I thought you were going to go Mets Yankees just
because you're so big Apple.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I'm clearly I'm big Apple on the Mets.
Speaker 8 (34:57):
Man.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Yankees are at my.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
Rival Cubs Cardinals is a good one as well.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Comes what I grew up with.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
You, yes, in New York.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Yeah, sort of a new rivalry. Uh, Brewers Cubs, right,
Brewers Cubs mean the Bruce manager to.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Stop trying to cater to your new neighbors, Doug. That's
I know what you're trying to do here.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
What wasn't I just thought it was a It's an
interesting story, but it is.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Are there any other rivalries in baseball?
Speaker 5 (35:30):
Look?
Speaker 4 (35:30):
I was gonna say Giants, a's just because I liked
the cross time rivalry. But that's not gonna happen anymore.
That that could be a unique one, unique one. There
are others break like what uh braves, Matt's braves, Phillies.
Speaker 8 (35:49):
Good ones as somebody, astros, Rangers.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
As Dodgers, Astro as Dodgers. I guess.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Yeah, absolutely not really, all right, I got.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
To probably like got two or three, okay, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
College football games this weekend. I got DIBs on the
Buckeyes and Ducks two versus three, seven thirty Eastern Time.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
I got DIBs on the Red River rivalry, the Red
River rivalry, three thirdstern kick this week Red River rivalry,
Red River rivalry, right right River rivalry.
Speaker 11 (36:26):
I'll take DIBs on Iowa State number eleven, Iowa State
at West Virginia. They are in the driver's seat to
win the Big twelve, at least according to York guy
Kelly Ford.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
So big game for them.
Speaker 5 (36:37):
All right, Jason, you want in?
Speaker 8 (36:39):
I got DIBs on Ole Miss LSU, all right, yeah,
I haven't really liked Old Miss since. Say they took
the mascot away. You know that old Confederate Uh what
was it?
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Wait, kind of look like Elliott a little.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
They bring the old Red back.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
Yeah that's not coming back.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
But yeah tomorrow, Cole miss quickly in twenty seconds. Former
forty nine ers running backs. I got DIBs on Ricky Waters.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Oh no, no, no, what was Roger Craig hig knees.
Speaker 8 (37:12):
Hig knees Regon Wendell Tyler.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
I got DIBs on Frank Gore.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Oh I got one. I got DIBs on O. J.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Simpson, Garritton Ferret finished his career with them.
Speaker 5 (37:25):
That's your time.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Oh man, I wish there was another one. We were
getting so good at that one. Stuck out them show
here on Fox Sports Trader. Let's look forward. Huge game
tonight in baseball Loca
