Wisconsin and Sherman Oaks, California. Welcome, Welcome in. It's a Friday,
a football Friday, a baseball Friday, an NBA Friday. We
(00:40):
got a lot to get to, a lot to get to.
Here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna actually work backwards.
Jaycee's like, wait what, That's not what we planned on.
Hold on, give me a second, Jason. So the play
of the day actually is gonna trigger the conversation that
we want to have to start the show, which is
the end of the Dodgers and Phillies series. As we
(01:05):
welcome in Dan Byer. You can hear him on Sunday
on Fox Sports Radio. Of course, you got IOA with
Sam and the Steam producer Jason Stewart, who is the
most informed and relatively negative Dodger fan that we have,
not just in our crew, but probably in Fox Sports Radio.
For over forty years, Tyrack has been helping customers find
(01:26):
the right tires for how, what and where they drive
shit fast and free back by free Road has protection
with convenient and solation options like mobile tire Insallation tyrack
dot com. It's the way that tire buying should be.
Here's our Tyrack play of the day care of the
La Dodgers, A five seventy radio network.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Heart rates through the room.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
The old one pitch Pa has grounds it.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Back to kirk Ry. He can't find it.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
He does home.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
It's one ten stores and the Dodgers are going.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
To the Championship Series fireworks.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Golf in Center Field.
Speaker 7 (01:58):
The Dodgers celebrate here space on a ground.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
Bull bets to the pitcher.
Speaker 6 (02:04):
Andy po has somehow gets the job done.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Paz gets the somehow gets the job done. We'll get
to the play in a second. First, that's the that's
AM five seventy LA Sports, the Dodgers radio network with
the call. Here's the Phillies Radio Network with the exact
same call.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
The O one swinging a broken back comebacker Kirkering knocks
it down, picks it up, fris wildly home to the
back stop and the season is over.
Speaker 8 (02:34):
The Dodgers rushing out past O'Ryan Kirkering, who stands with
his hands on his knees bent over.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
So I'll get to what our our group text was,
because we probably should have hopped on a call because
it was weird. First, here's here's a Ryan Kirkering who
made the uh the season ending error. Hey had this
exchange with reporters.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
How much do you think you can use this kind
of in the offseason too, you know for good for sure?
Speaker 7 (03:09):
Yeah the wall with the test wall for sure. But yeah,
just kind of.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Keep going with it.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
Hopefully it started a long career.
Speaker 7 (03:18):
Just keep back in my head and this really ups
right now, but hopefully keep pushing when to get over this.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
If you watch the game, you saw Rob Thompson, who's
the manager of the Phillies, grab kirk Kring before he
left the field. Here's what he said, or he said
he said to kirk Kring after the game.
Speaker 9 (03:38):
Rob, obviously heartbreaking way to lose to get a long
conversation with Oryan coming off the field.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Do you want to share little what you told him or.
Speaker 9 (03:44):
Just to keep his head up. You know, he just
got caught up in the moment a little bit coming
down the stretcher. He pitched so well for us, and
I feel I feel for him because he's he's putting
it all on his shoulders. But we went as a
team and we lose as the teams.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Here's Dave Roberts when he was asked about the final play.
Speaker 9 (04:04):
What are your feelings when it comes to Ryan Kirkering
right now seeing that happen on the other side.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Oh, it's it's brutal. Obviously they played great.
Speaker 10 (04:11):
Defense tonight, and you know it's one of those things
that it's it's a it's a PfP, a pitcher's fielding
practice and he's done it a thousand times, and you know,
just right there, he was so focused, I'm sure, on
just getting the hitter and you know, just sort of forgot,
you know, the outs in the situation.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
So you know, Kirkering is a stud.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And do we do we think he forgot the outs
on the play. I've heard that. I heard Joe Davis
say that. I've heard it mentioned by people, but even Kirkering,
in his honesty, he didn't say that. And if you
watch the play, his body was clearly in position to
(04:52):
throw the ball to first. He just misplayed it and
that's when panic set in and he decided to go
home with a wild throw that it actually wouldn't have
matted if it was a good throw, even though the
runner was would have been safe. He'd missed the plate, right,
was that key k Ahernan has missed the plate?
Speaker 3 (05:10):
It was Kim.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Oh, it's Kim missed the plate. Apologize. So my question is,
again this is based upon our group text and what
you've heard from several people. They believe he missed he
didn't know there was two outs, even though he came
in with two outs. I haven't heard him say I
forgot how many outs there were.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
No. We have sound of that running it through edit.
Right now he explains that it was indeed not that
he knew it was two outs, that he just under
the pressure, looked home and thought that was the next
best play. After it kicked off his shoe. We had
the explanation it's forthcoming the Kim missed home plate because
(05:52):
nobody in the stadium thought that throw was coming home,
including Real Muto, uh, the both dugouts and everybody in
the stadium. The last thing anyone thought was that there
was going to be throw home. Kim didn't even think
to slot.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
If we are talking about, shouldn't you have had the slide?
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Yeah, no, no, not have to you should you should
slide just to be safe. But that's how remote a
chance he thought the ball was coming home. Nobody in
the world would have thrown that ball home. It was
so unordinary. Jeff Frankcoor in the moment on the live
broadcast said, first and foremost, he must have lost track
(06:34):
of outs, because if anybody who knows baseball is watching
that play, that's the only explanation.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
No, I thought the explanation was he bobbled the ball
and then he then he panicked and went to the
first available base that he saw.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
That's his explanation.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, that's I think that's a reasonable buyer. You're you're
neutral in this, What do you think?
Speaker 11 (06:57):
I I thought that he thought that there was one
out or no outs at the immediate point until I
heard his comments of what he said, because it it
doesn't make any sense like if you if you knew
that there was two outs, and why I believe what
he said. It's just wrong on so many levels to
(07:20):
think that a guy at third would be the better
option after having a head start after it just it
doesn't make any sense. But I thought when the play happened,
he thought that there were less than two outs.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
I even said that, here's the here's the full Oriyan
Kirkland sound you guys, tell me what you think.
Speaker 7 (07:38):
Yeah, I thought, I mean just kind of once the
pressure got to me, I just thought it was a
faster thrower, the JT little quicker thrower than trying to
cross body at the price so.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Sorrow. Yeah, did you did you hear them calling telling
you to go to first at all?
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Or were you just in the moment that it wasn't even.
Speaker 7 (07:57):
Just in the mode?
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (07:58):
Can you clean see j T pointing in that moment
or is it just kind of looking.
Speaker 7 (08:02):
Up, just kind of looking up, just be ready again?
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Any A lot of guys in the game of christ
One's there. The guys say that just keep your head up.
It's lost mistake.
Speaker 7 (08:13):
Just baseball happens, and just keep your head up will
be good for a long time. They come, it's not
my fault, just that opportunity to score.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Had a conversation to be same.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
What thats that?
Speaker 8 (08:26):
I mean?
Speaker 9 (08:26):
You know, those guys.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
Picking you up so quick means a lot, shows they
care a lot, just means everything for sure. I'm sure
a lot of guys in here I've had moments early
in their carew that you know, I think kind of
remember very good the they.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
You know, how much do you think you can use
this kind of.
Speaker 7 (08:46):
In the off season so too, you know for good
for sure? Yeah, the wall with a test wall for sure.
But yeah, just kind of keep going with it.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Stuck out show here on Fox portrayer, that's all Ryan
kirklands that that was his explanation. Again, I I I'm
going to respectfully just disagree with you guys. I agree
you don't go home there. Everybody knows you go home there.
But we are sort of diminishing the fact that he
misplayed the ball. And then that's when Panic said it.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Yeah, I don't think you're disagreeing with anything. You asked
what we thought in the moment before the.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Explanation, But but now what do you think now? You
think he didn't he lost track outs?
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Of course, that's his that's what he said. That's his explanation.
Speaker 8 (09:34):
No, we didn't.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
He just said I lost track outs.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
He said, no, no, no, I didn't the pressure. He
just said that the pressure got to me and I
threw home. So I believe him, Yes.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
But he didn't say that he didn't know how many
outs there were.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Never he never said that that was what we speculated
in the moment. That's what Jeff said in the moment.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
But you still believe that I didn't know the outs? Okay,
my bad? Oh okay, well then I missed. I completely misunderstood.
That's okay, We're all good. I don't know. I just
that's the magic of sports. This is where I understand.
I actually had. I had a great conversation with Don Yeger.
I have a new podcast out. I think it drops today.
(10:17):
Jase du knows more about that when it actually drops
than I do. And Don Yeger wrote a book called
The Science of Momentum. And one of the questions I
asked is, you know, their analytics is such a strong
part of every every business, now, every sports franchise, college
(10:37):
sports as well. We use the analytics company all of
these things. But what the data people will tell you
is there's no such thing as momentum. Okay, it it
always you know, regresses to the mean, and that's just
those are well you feel like momentum, those are human
that the stats, the data doesn't lie, It doesn't take
(10:58):
in human emotions. It just says, hey, based upon all
the data we have, this is how many times this
is successful and this is not successful. And the greater
the data set, the more exact the stats are. And
I'm going to tell you that last night is the
perfect example of I'm respectful towards the data. I'm respectful
(11:20):
towards analytics. It plays a huge factor in how you
try and build, like a basketball program, a basketball team,
how you run offense, how you run defense. But at
the end of the day, there's still human beings out there.
And the perfect example is, no matter how young he is,
he's played a lot of baseball. He's taken he's taken
(11:40):
the field, he knows the play, he's ready to go.
He gets albeit a broken bat single right back at him.
That should be field the ball, throw it at first,
go to the next inning, and because of the pressure
of the moment, he was likely why he bobbled the ball. Initially,
and then the additional pressure and chaos of having the
bases loaded and a broken bat laying there and the
(12:02):
crowd going crazy and the game being on the line
and him just I just throw it home and he
freaked out and it looked like Little league baseball. This
is not me telling you that analytics nerds don't have
a huge place in sports. And maybe Jason, you and
I discussed Dave Roberts the decisions they make and how
much of it is him, how much of it is
(12:23):
the front office, how much of it is the analytics
department that doesn't have feel data is important, but there's
always going to be the human element. And a young
guy had a chance to extend the series or extend
the game fielding the ball cleanly, throw it to first,
he misplays it, and then Butcher's where he should go
(12:44):
with the ball, and then Butcher the throw, and the
whole thing ends up costing his team the end of
a game.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Credit to him, by the way, credit to him for
admitting that it's pressure, right. Well, first of all, he
took questions and most of the time you just hear
no excuse, and then you're unfulfilled by like, well, why
did you do it? And he actually said the pressure
got to me. How often do you hear pro athletes They.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Won't, they won't, and you know what, they'll never say
the pressure got to me, and they'll never say. I
think Chris Bosh was the last one. He talked about
his first playoff series with Lebron. I remember he played
poorly and he was like, look, I'd just be honest
with you. I wasn't ready for that kind of pressure.
You know, go ahead, Dan.
Speaker 11 (13:28):
There's a different type of pressure with this though, because
I do think that Kirkering like you can maybe try
to plan, like, isn't the pressure that he's facing is
to get Pahez out, to strike him out. He just walked.
I think you walked to Key k Hernanez prior to that.
So the goal is to get him out, and then
(13:50):
if you don't strike him out, make sure that you
can make a play or get him to hit a
ball that can be fielded. And so even in that
situation of getting the pressure, he sicks. He got him
to hit a ball that could be fielded and then
he didn't field it. And that's the part that to
me is just it's so unpredictable because if he feels
(14:12):
it cleanly in that scenario, I don't think that there
there's any issue. I just think it's the panic that
happened in that millisecond of what he was saying. But
because he felt that he bobbled it and that the
runner was coming home, that that everything then went into
chaos because how many times had a slow dribbler just
(14:33):
come back to the mound And if he knew that
there were two outs, he would know that he would
have all the time in the world. But that millisecond
of just watching the ground ball and him throwing it
is where the pressure got to him. I don't think
it got to him on the initial part that we
normally think of, let's just get this guy out.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
I agree with you, Doug.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Remember one we had Matt Holiday on was it on Tuesday?
You guys specifically talked about this, that it's really tough
to have short touch throws when that's not your position.
Pictures for years have struggled with these touch throws. So
even the throw to first he would have been pressured
to make. But that throw is so unnatural. You're used
(15:15):
to throwing ninety five miles an hour. Home, and now
you have to have some kind of a touch throw
because if he throws it on time, he's out, and
then we're blaming Kim for not sliding right. It's so
Matt Holliday said it. He's like when you're used to
throwing things at a certain angle for a certain speed,
that touch throw is really tough.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
So then you.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Add the pressure of the moment to that touch throw,
and it was just chaos.
Speaker 11 (15:41):
And doug in your sport. How many times do we
see maybe in a late second situation, someone misses shot,
get their own rebound and put back an even worse
putback because they weren't necessarily ready for that. I think
we see it in basketball at times too, Like you
miss a shot, Okay, that's pressure, but all of a
sudden you get an do you know?
Speaker 3 (16:01):
So you just throw up.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
All the time you miss that to the timing in
your head goes so much quicker. Yes, Like we do
this all the time. We talk about with players. Hey man,
every you have a you can dribble with every second,
like five seconds left, you can take four dribbles and
get all the way from rim to rim, lay the
ball in. You're fine, and they're like and then when
you get the ball, your your clock just gets sped up.
(16:23):
And look, a lot of that is experience, and with baseball,
outside of maybe playing in the College World Series, there's
just no ability to replicate that that energy, that moment. Like,
no matter how crazy the environment is at Citizens at
Citizens Bank Ballpark, still is that what it is? Still
(16:43):
in Philly?
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:44):
I think so, no matter how crazy that environment is
for a regular season game or even a postseason game,
whatever series, season on the line, bases loaded, two outs,
bottom of the eleventh inning, Like, you can't replicate that
till next.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Year Dodger Stadium. Yeah, nothing you can do.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
And so guys can be the coolest there is. I mean,
we're playing an exhibition game tomorrow night, right, Why Look,
we can't replicate We're playing Kansas No. Number three, fourteen
thousand people, if not the best coach in the country
is in any conversation, unbelievable athletes. The number one draft
pick this year is going to be Darren Peterson. Like
it's crazy. So we're just trying to replicate on some
(17:24):
level what the bodies and physicality are. But we can't
replicate fourteen thousand people streaming whatever I feel bad for.
We've talked about this. Baseball has two completely different seasons,
and Philadelphia is great fans, They'll have great energy. They'll
be series in the year when they play the Mets
and it'll be a zoo. But you can't replicate last night,
(17:44):
and the kid does it has until next year to
figure out if he can make that same play next year,
and even then we don't know until it happens. But yeah,
I completely agree with Dan, Like, that's the that's the
amazing thing about pitching is all your things about right,
And I'm sure part of it is He's like he
just walked kyk here Nan, He's like, just fuck, that's
(18:05):
still you gotta like process, okay to run it out,
but okay, now what's my approach? And all of a sudden,
this ball comes back at you and you bobble it
and oh, fudge, only you didn't say fudge. Gosh. I
love Fall baseball, I love October baseball.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
It's Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio quick update, guys,
uh buyer, I don't are you a Chipotle guy.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Buyer, I've never been to Chipotle.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
Reow, Sammy.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
I love Chipotle above q Doba. Uh. You know, I
had Kidoba at the airport. It was good.
Speaker 12 (18:53):
I just haven't had enough of it to really like
equate it to Chipotle, but very similar.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
I mean, I guess I just did. Right.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
There a new dipping sauce for Chipotle, Jimmy Cheery sauce.
Jimmy Cheery sauce. Just if you're if you're driving and
you're listening to us and you're like, oh, Champoli sounds
kind of good. You're getting thumbs up from Goslyb and
Jimmy Chery's okay. Just for people who want to know,
I'll be anybody's canary in the canary in the coal mine.
(19:19):
Let's welcome in. Mark Dominic course, he was a he's
a former general manager of the Tampa Buccaneers. He worked
his entire professional life in the National Football League. And
what's your reaction to the Giants thumping the Eagles last night?
Speaker 13 (19:35):
Yeah, Thumping's right. Dan's never been to Chipotle. I mean,
that's a bigger story. Than the Eagles, I think, but uh,
I think it's just kind of a shock that uh,
you know, we saw I think the Jews and I
think it really it spoke volumes when we watched it,
when Jackson Dart went under the shed and had to
kind of get a doctor's opinion, and you could see
(19:55):
just how Brian day Ball was pacing because he knew
this is the reason why we're have a chance to win.
This is what's gonna work. And just to concern that
they had it wasn't he wasn't going to be back.
You could tell how important it's been to have Jackson
Dartist a quarterback and how much I think it gave
the hope and the aspirations of this Giants team that's
saying a lot of things have gone wrong, but this
(20:16):
is going right and they found their guy.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Does it does it last right? Like the new guy?
I mean, even we look at backups in years past,
we all have one, right, we all have one guy.
I mean famously Don Makowski here in in Green Bay.
You pick it. Young guys can come in because you
don't have a scout on him. They have great energy.
(20:38):
They think they're supposed to win every game. You've watched
a lot of quarterbacks in the NFL. Does this last?
Speaker 13 (20:45):
I think it lasts in terms of the way he
makes decisions, the way he plays, I don't think it
can last. Honestly, Doug By the way he runs, that's
not gonna happen. I mean, you know, the nick he
took last night to have to you know, go see
potentially a concussion doctor or whatever that was, and then
to watch him turn around and calls a number, and
the way he finishes and runs at this level, he
will not make it a whole season. He can't. They're
(21:07):
too physical at this level and it's going to be
too many hits and so he's got to learn how
to run better. But I think in terms of throwing
the ball, some of the throws he made his decision
making those things look real, and I don't think that's
just an anomaly. I think that's a real thing. So
it's about him learning how to slide or when to
you know, kind of give up on a run is
going to be the more important thing that I think
(21:28):
is going to be worrying about. Can you do this again?
Next week?
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Cam scattabuu So sax State, Arizona State two years ago.
He had some good games at Arizona State. Last year
awesome games at Arizona State. But doesn't have a lot
of the tangibles, so he doesn't go high in the draft.
But after that, now the intangibles take over. Obviously, last
(21:54):
night was a great night in New York. But we've
seen Tommy Devido as a backup quarterback. Does Cam Scattabu
can he last? The way he's run the football?
Speaker 13 (22:01):
I think he can. You know, he plays with great balance,
and I think that's the thing when you think of
running backs that can really play at this level. He
takes hits, but can keep his feet moving and keep
moving forward and not fall down easily. And I think
that's that's that hidden thing functional football strength. You know,
we can talk about the weight room in the two
twenty five and how many reps a player did, but
(22:22):
then there's another thing to watch as you think about
functional football strength, and that works for every position in
the NFL, but for running back it shows it pretty good.
It's the guy that you know falls forward or you know,
bounces off one little tackle to be able to get
four or five more yards in a carry. I know
he was a couple of yards short of one hundred,
but I mean, right now, he's averaging over four yards
of carry in the NFL, and the way he runs
gets me pretty excited about just how fucking physically he
(22:44):
is and just that he turns the ball up field.
He's not looking to dance around. But he also catches
the ball really well out of the backfield. So I
think this is a nice fine for the Giants. You know,
you feel like this would have been a Shanahan find
based off of how good he's been able to do
and find running backs over his career. But this one's
won for the Giants, and it's a good feather in
the cap because I think he's the real deal.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
What's wrong with Eagles.
Speaker 13 (23:08):
I think there's a lot of individuals going on right now.
I don't think it's sakuon Barkley. I think Jalen Hurts,
this is playing marginal. I feel like the offensive line
isn't holding up as well as they did last year.
I feel like they're missing a lot of players on defense,
the secondary. I know Ringo had you know, good moments
and tough moments last night, but he's getting good reps
as a second year first team to start. I think
(23:30):
that's big for Ringo, but I think they missed some
of the veterans that they had out there, and I
think some of the younger guys, whether it's Jalox Hunt
or something like that, who's just not able to get
home right now. I think that's the big thing. They're
not getting enough pressure on the quarterback consistently. And to me,
that's the big difference of the Eagles this year is
that they're just not able to do that. And because
of that, drives are extended, drives are taking longer, as
(23:52):
you know, and I think that's a big piece of
what's kind of wearing them down a little bit. I mean,
this is a team that, yeah, you know, they're leading.
I think pass rusher are both their defensive tackles. That's
that's the problem with the Eagles right now, is they're
not getting pressure off the edge.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Is that a Is that a talent thing or is
it an experienced thing.
Speaker 13 (24:13):
I think it's an experience thing. And I say that
because I do think Jalox Hunt is going to continue
to get better as we watch him, you know, miss
and Jalen Carter out there also is a huge piece.
And so him sitting on the sideline last night doesn't
help the Eagles front at all as well. But I
do think it's Jalx Hunt's going to be a big
piece of what they've got to do and get him
confidence and he's I think they're going to come in
(24:34):
bunches when it comes. But right now he's just been
rushing hard, but he's not getting all the way home.
I think he will, but I think it also means
to get Jalen Carter out there to help, you know,
take some pressure off it and let him have more
one of those more of those one on one.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Rushes Doug Gottlieb show. Here on Fox Sports Radio, Mark
Domini's our guest course, former Genlem manager Tampay Buccaneers joins
us every week and gives us a real GM front
office scouting perspective on the National Football League. What was
your reaction Joe Flacco, who was demoted to being a
backup after Dylan Gabriel got the start last week getting
a mid season trade in Division in Ohio to the Bengals.
Speaker 13 (25:14):
You know, as soon as when the Bengals lost this
last game, I thought, there's just no way the Brown
family is going to sit there and throw number one.
They're frugal and rightfully so however they want to handle
their business, they can handle their business. But they spent
so much money in this off season. I knew that
the Brown family isn't just going to sit on their
hands and go, well, we'll just see what happens in
twenty twenty six, not with this roster, not with you know,
(25:37):
Trey Hendrickson possibly or probably leaving. They need to put
something together, and they look at this division and they're going,
wait a second, the Ravens are struggling. Yeah, Pittsburgh's had
a good start in Cleveland struggling. We can still get
in this thing, and we can still get the nine
wins and possibly ten wins, and so what do we do? See?
You know, I thought you got to call Kirk Cousins
or Atlanta. I think you could call Davis Mills. I
(25:57):
was thinking about him a little bit that I still
think there's some potential with him. But you know, it
was Eus wh Joe Flackle got bench like you just
go with the older veteran quarterback who is going to
come in, learn the playbook quickly and be able to
go out there and execute. And so I think it
was the right movement. I think it was the right
move for both clubs. Look, the Cleveland Browns is now
traded away Kenny Pickett and Joe Flackell, so good for them.
They're getting some collateral even though they're putting quarterbacks in
(26:20):
other people's divisions.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
That said, Chador is going to be the backup. So
you have a rookie starter and a rookie backup. How
much leash do you give Dylan Gabriel when you got
a rookie behind him?
Speaker 13 (26:34):
I think a lot, right, Doug. I think you really
let Gabriel kind of see how well he can go.
And I think that's for weeks. Even if he goes,
you know, zero touchdowns, three interceptions, you don't pull the
trigger too quick. They both hopefully will get real time
this year to kind of get a sense of are
they ones or twos or threes? And I think that
still can happen. But right now, I give him a
(26:55):
longer leash, like at least a month of games to
say what can he do? Because you know, they drafted
him before Shauduer for a reason, and they feel like,
you know, he's got the potential, and they certainly spoke
well of him in terms of his locker room presence
and what the team responds to him. So they've said
the right things to say. Look, they want to give
this guy longer lease, so I would expect that, and
if he goes zero to two, I think he's got
(27:16):
a chance to go three to four before I think
they make a move.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
The Baltimore Ravens are struggling. Lamar Jackson still looks like
he's out. They do have a bye week coming up.
When is the moment that they waive We know about
the division, right, that division can be had. But they
got the Rams, Okay, then bye week, then Bears, then
they go. Then they got three games in a row
on the road, granted not three great teams Dolphins, Vikings, Browns.
When is the point that the Ravens go, yeah, this
(27:42):
might not be our year.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (27:44):
I mean, I think there's a good chance to go
one in five to start the year. Which is crazy
that you would think that the Baltimore Ravens When I
thought they those are the Buffalo Bills, I thought would
be the team that would be hosting the Lamar Hunt Trophy.
But you know, we're sitting here and I think they
lose to the Rams this week. But I do agree.
I think one bye week, a self scouting harbor, Lamar
(28:04):
Jackson should be back. But when you look at it,
one in five, but it goes Bears, Dolphins, Vikings, Browns, Jets, Bengals, Steelers, Bengals, Patriots.
I mean, you could make an argument that they could
win every one of those games. Now the way they're playing,
they probably wouldn't, but they've lost to Buffalo, Detroit, Kansas City,
and then lost to Houston without Lamar Jackson, so it's
(28:26):
not like they're losing to bad teams. The only smothered
to Cleveland Brown. So I think this team just needs
to get to the bye week. But I think they're
going to rattle off a bunch of victories and put
themselves back in the postseason. So I would still say
I think they're Ravens to make the postseason.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Wow. Okay, what was New England's win more about New
England or about Buffalo?
Speaker 13 (28:48):
I thought it was more about New England. I think
it was a huge culture movement that's going on there
and to be able to win that game, it just
goes again to show what you know coach has been
able to do. If you know, coach Rabel's been able
to do with maybe less talent. He did it where
I live here in Nashville for years, and I think
a lot of people are like, ah, he's not that
good of a coach, and then they pull them away
(29:09):
and suddenly you know Titans can't get out of their
own shadow. And you know the GM that was with him,
John Robinson, great guy, but there wasn't There were some
misses in the draft. Picks and first rounders didn't come through,
even for coach Rabel here in Nashville. And so I
think he's just showing that I can build a winning
tradition of winning culture. That was a huge win for
the New England Patriots, just to kind of build a
morale within the organization. And again, this is a team
(29:30):
I didn't think it was going to be good enough.
I know a lot of people have them as like
the turnaround team of twenty twenty five. But you start
to look at their schedule too, Saints Titans, Brown's next
three weeks, they couldn't really do some damage right now.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Uh, Kansas City looked better big game against Detroit, coming
in over seven yards of play. Where are you on
on Kansas City and if they're if I mean, I
look that you lose to Jacksonville. I think Jackson's pretty good,
but I did think the offense woke up last week.
On the other hand, the the defense of Chris Jones
not getting not getting Trevor Lawrence down has been a
(30:04):
big kind of controversy in Kansas City. Where are your
thoughts on Kansas City welcoming in the Lions.
Speaker 13 (30:11):
Yeah, you know, I love the Chiefs, but I just
think Detroit off the edge is going to be too
much trouble for him, and I think the offensive line
for the Chiefs is going to show up a little
bit more this week where it's going to be a problem.
So I like Detroit in this game, even though it's
hard to imagine the Chiefs being two and four. But
I just feel like the Chiefs are a good football
team that will again, I think, find their way to
the postseason. I still don't think they're going to win
(30:32):
their division for the first time in forever, it feels like,
but I think the Detroit defensively is going to be
too much for Kansas City offensively, and I think because
of that, and again, when you look at the Kansas
City defense. The one thing you want to see is
more speed, and they don't have a ton of speed
on the Kansaity defense. They're technically sound that they're not fast.
(30:53):
They're more physical, and I think Detroit has a fairly
fast team, so I think both sides kind of match
up for Detroit. So I like Detroit. This game.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Awesome stuff. As always, Mark, have a great weekend. We'll
talk to you next week. Always love your insight, Doug.
Speaker 13 (31:05):
Thanks for having me on. Enjoy your weekend.
Speaker 11 (31:07):
I don't know if I'll try the new chimney cherry sauce, Doug.
You know I like things plain, but uh yeah, if
I do go to Chipotle, I'll uh definitely try to
get some chicken and rice back to you.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
There you go, chicken, rice and all things. That's all.
That's all Hayes gets. My son Hayes, he does the
He just has a bowl with chicken and.
Speaker 12 (31:23):
Rice, cheese, dam no, no, definitely no peppers. No, not
gonna have I do everything everything, corn, cheese, sour cream, lettuce,
all of it.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Is it straight corner? Do they put the peppers in
the car. It's just white corn.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
It's been Yeah, they put a little they put a
little something.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
A little not the peppertty good.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Season, a little little seasoning in there. Yeah, a little
something something. That's what That's exactly what it is. Yes,
us thinking I'm thinking too much, but I was thinking
about like the change from when we were kids, right,
and when we were kids, it was like McDonald's was
(32:07):
the ultimate prize, right and treat and McDonald's fries still
the goat. But yeah, I mean, I would say that
Dan is in a small percentile of people that have
not tried Chipotle and Mark Dominic obviously trying to get that.
Everybody's trying to get that free Chipotle card, you know
that celebs get who's not trying to get that.

Speaker 5 (32:58):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 8 (33:04):
Hello, I owe you Dan, Hello Doug. The game today
on this Friday is I got DIBs. All right, four
topics for all of us to jump in and take.
What is ours first topic up for grabs? Your favorite
college football matchup this weekend?
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Go hey, god dabs all right?
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Indiana Organ, Indiana Organ Right, Indiana has I mean, they
have taken the Big Ten short of by storm, but
they've done it in all honesty with uneasier schedule than
other Big ten, other SEC schools. Now, you go to
(33:50):
Oregon on the road. Everybody respects Organ. Everybody thinks they
got national championship talent. I don't think they have to
win the game to stay in the conversation, but you
better be really really competitive, especially as much ish as
their talk, their coach has talked. I think that one's
that one's fun, really fun.
Speaker 12 (34:10):
I got DIBs on number fifteen Michigan going to USC.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
I think that's a fascinating matchup. The Trojans are a
slight favorite.
Speaker 12 (34:17):
We'll see if Sharon Moore's guys can get it done
on the road, because they already went to Oklahoma, couldn't
get it done.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
See if they get done in Los Angeles.
Speaker 11 (34:25):
I got DIBs on the Buck guys in fighting a
line I in Champagne. You guys want to know what
today is, Yeah, the twenty seventh anniversary of me going
to the Ohio State Illinois game in Champagne. I went
nineteen ninety eight, drove down with my buddy Marcus and
was shocked that, Doug, you know this. The basketball arena
(34:48):
was like across the street from farms. It's a lot
of where their egg stuff was. But I'd never been
to Champagne before. But twenty seven years ago today, October tenth,
nineteen ninety eight, I watched the Buck guys were out
the Aliini. So I'm looking forward to that matchup tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Wow, that's awesome. I got DIBs on something that none
of the three of you had the balls to talk about,
and that's the sec Number eight Alabama travels to number
fourteen Missouri. Why am I most excited about that. After
keeping Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia in check, why backer Justin Jefferson
(35:26):
and the Crimson Tide defensive front turn its attention to
bo brabula.
Speaker 11 (35:32):
Bo prebula pribula. By the way, there's really good games
this weekend. Georgia and Auburn renew their rivalry, Wisconsin wearing
the throwbacks against Iowa, and of course in Dallas, Texas
in Oklahoma. Moving on to question number two. NFL team
(35:53):
on upset watch this weekend? Who needs to be on
upset alert?
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Go?
Speaker 4 (35:59):
I think the question should be who's not on an upside?
Speaker 11 (36:07):
Who's on upset alert this weekend? I got dibbs on
ready for this. The Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin's fourteen and
four off of a bye. He's never lost to Cleveland
at home in Pittsburgh in the regular season.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
What are you calling your shot?
Speaker 11 (36:23):
The Browns are coming back from a trip to London.
The Steelers again have a bye. They were rested after
their trip to Ireland. But I'm going to say the
Steelers are an upset watch this weekend, even with Dylan
Gabriel making a second career start.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
My god, dabs on the Seattle Seahawks, and I'm only
saying it's upset alert because they're actually favored in Jacksonville
against the Jaguars. I was stunned to see this line.
What do I not know, Dan Byer, who's not playing
for Jackson.
Speaker 11 (37:00):
Well, I thought Jacksonville was actually the early favor and
I thought that the line ended up moving to Seattle.
Maybe the short week with the Jaguars playing the game
against the Chiefs. It's a long trip for the Seahawks.
They had their hands full with the Buccaneers. But maybe
maybe a little bit more trust in Seattle's defense despite
the injuries that they have. That could be a reason why.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
I got divs on a team that Dan Bayer has
chosen to win the Super Bowl. I have a feeling
that Jets are going to take those seven and a
half points and say we don't need them. We don't
need the points. Jets up sith the Broncos in the Sunday.
Speaker 11 (37:41):
What about if they played in London on Sunday? Would
that change your mind on any.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
No, They're gonna they picked the stadium up and they
put it in London. In London, they pick up the
entire medal lands and they put it in London. And yes,
they found Jimmy Hoffa's body.
Speaker 12 (37:56):
All right, I got DIBs on the Chargers going cross
country Tree to Miami.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Uh, you know who knows cross country trade for the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Were all banged up. Chargers are all banged up.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Back to back weeks or two out of the last three.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
I don't think. I don't think. I think that's a
really good pick.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
Sam.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
I was surprised Jay Student picked that. And that is
game time Stut Gottleep Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Have the Giants found their Man? We discussed next
