So the Jets have made some moves where they have
(00:46):
two first round picks and two second round picks in
twenty twenty six, three first round picks in twenty twenty seven. Meanwhile,
the Colts have added Sauce Gardner. So which one do
you want to take? Where do you want to take it?
Do you want to take it with the team that
added or the team that's subtracted. Let's start with the
team that added Chaine stike In is the head coach
(01:06):
of the Colts. Most people thought he was on the
hot seat to start the season. Danny Dimes has been really,
really good. Jonathan Taylor bean back, gives them a tremendous
running back, and now you add an elite two time
All Pro cornerback to the mix. Here's the Colts head
coach on the addition.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Obviously, I'm really excited about adding Sauce Gardner to our
football team. You know, his resume speaks for itself, pro bowler,
All Pro, So to get a guy into the building
like that, it just elevates everybody around us. So really
excited to add him to the fold. I think when
you're sticky on the back end with the coverage guys
that we got in adding him to the fold obviously,
you know that makes the quarterback probably hang on to
(01:44):
the ball a little more, which helps the pass rush,
and it goes hand in hand the same thing. Pass
rush helps the coverads on the back end. So anytime
you add an elite player like that to the back end,
it's going to help everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I think that's fair. It's gonna help everybody, right, you
gotta have help up front or in the in the back. Now,
there's a couple of parts to it. Let's first say,
for the Jets, I don't like it. I love it
because you only do this if you have an owner
(02:14):
and Woody Johnson who's probably a little bit too involved,
but the owner has said, hey, I'm all in on
the coach. I'm all in on what he's doing and
what he's selling. And the only way you do this
is if the owner says, all right, look, we're not
going to win this year, let's rebuild this team. Let's
rebuild this roster, and here's how we're going to do it.
(02:37):
And if you think that this is a change in
mentality and getting rid of defensive players, it's not. It's
simply getting rid of the two guys with the most
value who have yet to sign those big long term
extensions that just bleeds you and give you the inability
to fill out your roster. The only reason you go
(02:59):
and have two first round picks, two second round picks,
three first round picks the next year is because you
want to go fix your quarterback position. And if you
think the Jets are happy with their quarterback position with
justin Fields, all you have to do is look at
the owner's own quotes going back two weeks ago when
he said, I mean we could just complete a four.
(03:21):
You know, we just complete a pass. No one thinks
justin Fields is good enough, and the owner has said
he's not good enough, and he's got his coach, so
he gives them the ability to gut it, take it
down to the studs. Let's start over. Here's a Jets
(03:41):
GM Darren Moogie talking about the trades he pulled up.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
I know it gives us good flexibility going in to
the draft this year and next year. So excited about
having that flexibility, and you know, the draft's a long
way away. There's a lot to happen between now and
April and then especially the twenty twenty seven. Hear them
and you're like, I probably wouldn't do that, but we
have our set values. Would keep all those conversations private.
(04:06):
And when it came down to the last few days,
Indianapolis kept getting rich and richard with their value and eventually,
like I said, it was too good to pass up.
But there's I have a lot of conversations throughout the
course of the year with different gms, and this one materialized.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Stug Otlabs show here on Fox Sports Radio. What does
all this mean? We do operate under the premise, okay,
that if you're in All Pro and you get traded,
you're automatically going to be an all pro at a
new location. And even though I think the Jets valued
sauce Gardner, you if you thought he if he was
untradable because he's that good, he's untradable two first round
(04:45):
draft picks. Says it's close to untradable, but it's not untradable.
So I want you to refresh your mind on one
thing I hate when you know how Jason, how you
hate prediction radio. What I hate is those debate shows
which start with a question from somebody in the middle
(05:06):
who offers no up opinion they're not supposed to, who says,
should the Jets trade sauce Gardener? And there is while
there's a yes and a no that producers want you
to get to when you do radio or television that
those type of questions, the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Do I want to trade sauce Gardener?
Speaker 4 (05:24):
No?
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Do I want to trade sauce Gardner? If I'm one
in seven, I don't want to pay him a new
contract and somebody's willing to give me two first round
draft picks for him. Well, yet, maybe maybe there's also
(05:46):
the other side to it, which is there is a
chance that sauce Gardener, while good, may not be as
good as they think. Otherwise, would you have taken two
first round draft picks? Because two first round draft picks will?
It resets your clock on and how much you're going
to pay guys. And it is a value because you
can trade it for several second and third round picks
where you can really load up on inexpensive talent. The
(06:10):
fact is, all you're hoping with those two first round
draft picks is that one of the players is as
impactful sauce Gardner has been throughout his career, and it
hasn't been very long. So there's a world out there
where it looks like a great trade for the Colts.
They overpaid value wise because they knew what they were getting,
and yet maybe maybe the Jets get over on them.
(06:34):
For over forty years, Tyrek has been helping customers on
the right tas for how, what and where they drive
ship fast and free and back by free road as
protection with convenient installation options, like mobile time slation, tyrat
dot com the way tire buying should be buyer. I
offer this up. I know we had the trade deadline,
I get it, but I do think that the Jets
(06:54):
this is like SEC football, where the end of the
season is going to be terribly non competitive during times
in which usually those are the most viewed games.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Yeah, they've I mean they've they've punted on this season,
and it's It's kind of why I've never felt that
Aaron Glenn was in jeopardy of losing his job no
matter how bad things went, because, as we found out today,
quinnin Williams had been complaining all year behind the scenes,
at least quietly or requesting a trade out of town.
We knew that there was going to be changeover. It
(07:26):
didn't make much sense to have Sauce Gardner the cornerback
of his level, even if he maybe wasn't playing to
the hype that he previously was playing, He's still top
level corner and to have him on a bad team,
it's just his The compares it, because we've talked about
this for the last couple of weeks on the i
Wan Reflex podcast, is closer on a bad baseball team. Yeah,
(07:47):
it's awesome to have a guy who can go into
the ninth and get one, two, three, But what's the point, Yeah, exactly,
So it made sense for the you know, for the
Jets in that scenario. What I find so interesting, at
least in that specific Colts Jets deal is look at
how this Jets team was just as crumbled into the
ruins that it is now with the build up starting.
(08:10):
I think we have seen the team hit rock bottom
from where it was at one point and where it
could have been. And you would think I was blame
Aaron Rodgers. No, I actually think that Aaron Rodgers got
caught up in the rubble of all of this and
the dysfunction. But also, Doug, look at the Colts. Now.
The Colts are saying we're all in. We're gonna give
(08:31):
up two first round picks, and while they have a
great offensive line, it really means they believe in Daniel Jones,
and they really, I think, want to cash in on
these this year where Jonathan Taylor remains is healthy and
knock On Wood remains healthy, because this could be the opportunity.
The one thing with Taylor throughout his career has been
all right, is he gonna get injured at some point,
(08:52):
He's gonna miss a couple of games and they're all
in at this point. I really think that they're all
in for this season, and they'll have decisions to make
further down the line, and this trade ends up reflecting
that by giving away two firsts.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I agree with you, And it's one of those things
for the Colts where how often are you going to
get this opportunity? Right? The Chiefs are kind of the
Bills look beatable, not unbeatable. The Chargers are all banged up, right,
Denver's fine, Like, let's not act like Denver spectacular and
(09:25):
if you can go for it, like, go for it, yeah,
and worry about the rest of another time. I do
think there's the possibility you mentioned at Sauce Gardner. Is
he not playing well because he knows he's on a
crummy team and he's just not dialed in, or is
he not as good as as we thought or maybe
he used to be.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
And the same thing with Quinnon Williams with his numbers
that maybe weren't up to previous seasons, and I think
that will have something to it. I think that there
there will be a boost It's It's interesting as well
when you acquire a corner. When we look at the
AFC right now and you're like, what receivers do you
need to lock up? Well, there's none in Buffalo, Kansas City.
(10:09):
You're like, okay, maybe Rashi Rice is the guy New England,
Stefan Diggs. You know, like, there's there's that one portion
of it Pittsburgh. Yeah, DK Metcalf isn't. Really there's And
that's kind of my point of So now now I'm
curious to see what the cults do with this. Is
(10:30):
it to lock up Nico Collins? Is it to lock
up Brian Thomas junior receivers in your division? That makes
a lot of sense to do that as well, But
I'm just curious on how it's going to play out,
especially with the team in the running for home field
in the AFC.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Y'ah are listening to The Doug Gottlieb Show. You're listening
sports radio.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
So R J.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Young's gonna join us in five minutes or so. But
let's get to our first college football playoff poll of
the year. Right, So you got the you had the
poll that came out and buyer. I guess the first
question is do you pay? You and I are the
(11:23):
biggest college fell fans of our crew.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Right, yeah, I was, Sam, if you were in I
think would be yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
In the conversation, So do you like the release of
the polls in early November?
Speaker 5 (11:40):
Yes, yes, I don't. Some people have argued for them
earlier in the season, but I am. I am fine
with where they are right now.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
You're fine with it or you like it?
Speaker 5 (11:52):
Yeah, I'm I'm yeah, I'm fine with it. I think
that that's yeah, it's good.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Okay. Your biggest takeaway.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
Is what My biggest takeaway is that the committee. I
feel a lot of people wanted Texas A and M
to be number one, A lot of people wanted Indiana
to be number one, and I feel that the committee
at least did what they supposed to do, and I
(12:26):
feel that the rankings were just I just my takeaway
is the argument, like for Texas A and M, for
the SEC for Alabama and Georgia and those schools, well,
then still like diminishing a Texas team, So then the
Ohio State win isn't as good diminishing Indiana's win at Oregon,
(12:50):
which I think is the best win of the season.
Others would say A and M against Notre Dame, but
I think Indiana's at Oregon is the best win that
we've got on the season so far. So I just
it's the sec They just can't they can't have it
both ways. In my mind.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Well, here's where it gets really hard, because you go
our win, your win or whatever. I will say that
Indiana schedule in comparison to A and M's schedule is
laughably bad. Is laughably bad. Some of it is their
own doing with their non conference schedule. Some of it
(13:31):
is the fact that the Big Ten to this point,
you know, the teams they played haven't been as good
as they thought they would be. Nor can they set
up their schedule right. Like the Penn State game this
weekend was supposed to be gigantic and now it's won't. Won't.
But they did win at Iowa, they did win at Oregon. However,
good Illinois is they beat them, But you play Oldamanion,
Kennesaw and Indiana State in your non conference, and I'm sorry,
(13:54):
I can't rank you number one ahead of an A
and M team that, out of conference play played Notre
Dame on the road. There's just no comparison in a
more difficult league.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Would you say that Indiana's conference schedule is more difficult
than what Texas A and MS faced.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
It's a great question because let me break down why
Dan says that and why it's a smart point. Indiana
plays nine conference games, three non conference games. A and
M plays eight conference games four non conference games, So
by adding in Notre Dame, that's like adding in a
top four team for Big Ten team, right right.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Dan, Well, I was basically just getting at I think
that the wins at Iowa, in the wins at Oregon
are better than any conference win that Texas A and
M has on their schedule.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Yes, but I would this is my belief. I do
think that the attrition of the SEC is greater than
the attrition of the Big Ten. The nine conference games
versus eight when you play a Notre Dame essentially becomes
a little bit of a wash at Notre Dame is
cool too. At Oregon?
Speaker 5 (15:01):
Will you will you give me that one? At Iowa?
Speaker 1 (15:07):
I think at LSU is a harder place. They're a
better team.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
It's a harder party at team I challenges but.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
At the time before they fired Brian Kelly after the
game at the time, and then now you go to
Missou right, which is I think Penn State before the
before the season, thought you'd like Penn State's a little better.
Now Miszoo becomes better. Uh, and they still have Texas
on the road. But we're not talking about later on
this year. We're talking about a snapshot of now. I
(15:36):
think it's kind of a wash. I think I think
my thing is I think the SEC is better, Their
conference schedule is a little bit more difficult overall, maybe
not individually. And then you add a Notre Dame, which
I think crosses out the Oregon game for for Indiana,
and I think a MS.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
I think the committee is smart and people may not
may not a but I think they're smart in this Doug.
What they did is they said, we're gonna just take
the three unbeatens Indiana, Ohio State, and Texas A and M,
and we're gonna rank those three. Then what we're gonna
do is we're gonna take the one loss teams and
we're gonna rank them because I think that there's an
argument that Alabama has a better resume than maybe even
(16:19):
the top three schools in the country, but they have
the blemish of the loss to Florida State. So right
now they're just like, all right, let's just settle this.
We can let the other pieces fall where they may.
A lot of season left to go. That's how I
think they approached last night, by just saying, we're gonna
take these three schools, we'll rank them, and then let's
(16:40):
really get into the nitty gritty and rank these one
lost schools and then these two law schools, and then
we'll let the chips fall where they may, because Alabama's
resume is tough to argue with even with the loss
for what they've done.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Soug Gottlieb Show Here on Fox Sports Radio. He hosts
Number one Show, which is a gigantic college football show
a podcast on Fox Sports. He's RJ Young who joins us.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
R J.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Let's let's start with the news of the day. We
have the first college football playoff pole of the year.
You are a gigantic Oklahoma fan. In addition to being
the host of the Number One Show podcast, on Fox Sports.
What's your reaction to them being the second team out
of the current pole.
Speaker 7 (17:27):
Thanks, sir, I think it's exactly what I expect them
to be given the resume and the terms.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
Of record metric.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
Right, you still got that great win against Michigan at home,
and now you've got a great win against Tennessee on
the road. Eighteen that this committee thanks for the.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Top twenty five teams even after the third loss. I
do not, but it's still looks good for Oklahoma, and
you know, Texas still has that sidebreaker in the head
to head. But I find them be more fascinating about
this is are we going to see a fourteen get
in from the SEC this year now that we got
the twelve team s great speeding? Or is that fourteen
going to come from the Could we end up with
(18:01):
eight teams from those two copses collectively?
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Uh? Yeah, Yeah, I'm not sure we need a fourth
team from the Big ten. Uh But because well, we'll
see how that that conference plays out as the year
goes on, Right, We'll see what happens with SC and
Michigan and some of those other teams. But yeah, I
definitely think a fourth team. Remember a fifth team from
from the SEC. Does it? Does it hurt the SEC
(18:28):
that it seems like half the teams that fire their
coaches so they're not going to be competitive at the
end of the year.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
No, I don't think it does because the teams that
have not fired their coaches.
Speaker 7 (18:37):
Are still really damn good. We're going to get to.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
Find out a lot about Missouri and they play for
the first time. There's ninety four. Missouri got lost to
Alabama and Vanderbilt, which you know, we can talk about
it with the committee. They love a good loss. I
think they like a good loss better than anything like winning,
which is really my biggest hone to.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
Pick with them.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
But A and M Missouri are going to suck each
other out. Must still got to run the table the
rest of the way texts game, They got to play
each other. Oklahoma still has a pretty hard road even
with LSU haven't fired its head coach, They're still going
to be a pretty big football team with a lot
of pride. I think as long as you've got a
team that has got seven wins at this point in
the season in the power forward, you've got a chance
(19:18):
to make college football playoffs.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. That's the
voice of our Jay Young hosts the number one show,
Number one show on Fox Sports. Okay, ur J, let's
get to some other stuff going on. Obviously, got some
huge games upcoming this weekend, and let's start with Oregon
(19:43):
taking on Iowa. Oregan was cruiser a long, then they
get smacked by Indiana. They bounce back by beating up
Rutgers and Wisconsin. They're taking on Iowa team that kind
of quietly is put together a nice little three game
win streak after a close loss to Iowa State, a
close loss to Indiana. How competitive do you think this
game is? Considering Organ's almost a touchdown favorite on the road.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
This is an underrated great matchup for me, this is
strength for the strength. He got a great offense coordinated
by Will Steins that can run the football and get
it fall out to the playmakers on the perimeter against
a Phill Parker led defense. And I believe that Bill
Parker is the most underappreciated the fitness coordinator. Maybe fuck ever,
I mean that literally, but the dude continues to just
(20:28):
put guys out there that go ball out and you
got to see this sets against Indiana. What you did
what I've been saying you need to do against Indiana
the whole time. Light them up. He ran cover zero.
He was blisting as many guys he could. He was saying,
for handle Mendoza, Let's see how help you are. I'm
gonna hit you and over and over again. That's twenty
fifteen games. Meanwhile, if you're Oregon, you need a good win.
(20:50):
And now that the College Football Playoffs Committee is ranked Iowa,
I think thought the strength of playing Indiana closely. You
need a great win because their kid just doesn't really
get salty until a little bit later in November. And
now we can help me to go. Okay, Penn Stake,
not any good to be understanding that now they'll beat
up on this Iowa team, that they get out of
(21:13):
our face. Now that is what I'm looking for. That's
gonna be so excited.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Continue with our j Young, the number one show on
Fox Sports of course covering college football. Uh okay, So
we talked to Oregon in Iowa. Let's get to A
and m they go and beat Notre Dame. At Notre Dame,
they get Brian Kelly fired with an incredible second half
at LSU UH, they survive Arkansas on the road, and
(21:39):
now after a week off, they take on Missoo and
Missoo's one of those teams that you know they're good
against everybody except the good teams, right, beat everybody. Lose
to BAM on a close one at home, lose to
Vanderbilt in a close one on the road. How does
Missouri match up with A and M? This one being
played in Columbia, Missouri.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
I think I would have loved to see this game
when bo Privola was healthy. Right, that's their starting quarterback,
that's the guy that also can make things happen when
the play breaks down. Gives them an opportunity to perhaps
move around and play with that Mike Elko defense in
a way that Marcel Reid gets to play with everybody else.
But knowing that probably not going to go in this game,
(22:19):
it's gonna be Missouri's defense versus A and M's offense.
The Missouri's defense is underrated. It's been really good and
if they can play the kind of defense that they
have shown themselves capable of doing. Remember, Alabama really had
to grind out that we're gonna gets the same thing
with Vanderbilt. Then you can put the ball in a
Mott Hardy's hands to their top running back who's the
best freshman running back in the country last year at
(22:40):
ULM before transferring, and you get to grind the game
out because if you let Marceau Read do what he
can do with Casey Conception and Mario Kramer on the outside,
it's going to be a long day. I think this
is going to be A and M once again putting
together a good and solid performance. But here's the thing.
If they beat Missouri like.
Speaker 7 (23:00):
They sold something, the.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Committee has a lot to think about when it comes
to ranking the number one team next Tuesday, provided Ohio
State take care of business against Purdue and Indiana takes
care of business gets State, because now you've got an
argument that maybe TEXT and M has two of the
best wins in the country.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
You mentioned the Penn State game, okay, and I was
looking at it and it's one of those things. Every
year we have one of these no way right, that's
not happening, and then it happens, or it comes really
close to happening. So I'm gonna give you a couple
and you tell me you got LSU Bama you got Purdue,
(23:44):
Ohio State, you got Mississippi State, Georgia, you have Penn
State Indiana. One of them is going to be really close.
It just it always happens. It doesn't make any sense.
Which one of these do you think is the closest
or most likely to be a potential.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
E set Missisippi State Georgia man going away like that's
a team that also pushed Georgia into the dewater last year.
Nobody was looking because missisisp State wasn't any good. And
Mississippi State has one of the toughest schedules this season altogether,
and they've just been running through it. But when you
look at what they've been doing here lately, I could
terrify the teams. We're talking about twenty six fourteen loss
(24:21):
to Own this last year, right, and then you get
back into this one and I'm looking at this Georgia
game and I'm going, all right, who have they played
close so far? Well, you're talking about twenty three twenty
one to Florida, that forty five to thirty eight game
in Missippi to Texas. They were leading thirty one to fourteen,
I believe it halftime, and then the Arkansas game, they
finally got that w I mean for me, it is
(24:43):
Blake Shapan going to prove to be the guy that
he's shown himself capable of beings. Because Jeff Levy's team
is coming like they they've been in these overtime matchups
against fifteens, they've been in these games late. All they
got to do is really put it together against the
george team that still needs to prove to us that
it is Georgia got that great went against Tennessee, but
since they felled Alabama at Stanford, they look vulnerable and
(25:05):
against that quarter team they finally put people away. But
again I think that you think to do here?
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Man.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
They feel good, they looks good, and they probably believe
they got the measure of the Georgia football team this year.
R J.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Who's the team who's not currently in the field that's
gonna appear that that's gonna appear in the field when
we get to the playoffs, right. I know you're a
big ou guy. They'll have opportunities, Texas opportunities. But give
me somebody not in the field now you feel confident
that forget about it a couple weeks they'll be in it.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Oh I got to move to the ACC. And the
problem I run into now is I got what I
know and what I think what I know is Georgia Tech,
Virginia Louisville right there at the top of the ACC
and it's anybody's take right now. With one loss, right,
Virginia feels like they're TC in twenty twenty two. They're
just good enough to get these down. The same thing
(26:03):
kind of feels true in Georgia Tech, although we'll find
out more about them when they play Georgia and Louisville
just lost their star running back in Isaac Brown, but
that's the past heavy team with Jeff Bromb. Anyway, the
team that I'm actually watching, the one that asked me
to both sided, is Pitch. I'm telling you, man like
bit all of a sudden, seven is through and they
beat the snot out of the New State team that
just beat Georgia Tech like they sold something and Pitt's
(26:26):
got to play notre dang. I believe Georgia Tech and
Miami to finish. If they run the table and they
get to the ACC Championship with that resume, they're gonna
get into one of those spots and you could be
talking about two teams from the ATC once again getting
in there. But Pad and r Dusey coming out with
a freshman's quarterback and just hanging it out off the
(26:46):
less and so fun to watch. And that defense is
running all over the field. Like I said, bit is
my team, Like that's the one that I'm going to
be watching here late to come out of nowhere and
steal one of these spots.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
How did you see if? I mean again, I don't
think it's likely, but sc still got iowaed home and
I was coming off the game this week Organ on
the road then Ucla at home. That they're one that
the defense isn't terrible. They lost two close games, just
one one on the road last week. We'll see RJ.
You the best man. Thanks for joining us. We really
appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Thanks Doug. We can join having it me and have.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
A good day thanks to r J. Young. It's called
the Number One Show. It's podcast on Fox Sports. Hey,
buyer real quick on the info. Okay, so are we
absolutely sure Kyler Murray is injured?
Speaker 5 (27:35):
Yes? Okay, But and the reason I say that Doug
was such conviction is not only it's the ir Art report,
but Jonathan Gannon said on local radio yesterday that even
if Kyler Murray was healthy, that Jacoby Brissette would have
started week ten.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Right, that was But again, that's why I'm asking is
if it's a you know, let's just put him on
IRS so we don't have to deal with it. But
it is interesting that now he's on IR all right.
So if you just just joining us Dan had breaking
news Kyler Murray on IR, that means four weeks can't play.
So Jacoby Brissett has four weeks to retain the job.
(28:13):
And we'll see what happens when Kyler Murray if he
comes back this year. For forty years, Tyrak has been
helping customers find the right tires for how, what and
where they drive, ship fast and free and back by
free road as protection with convenience stalation options like mobile
tires slation. Tyre dot COM's the way tire buying should be.
It's time for our tire rack play the day Care
of the Bulls Radio Network. Ten seconds remating of the
(28:34):
game Giddy drives left, hangs in the air, gives left
corner foots for three bulls Bulls Eye Bulls take the lead.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Three point two seconds remaining fourth quarter care of Bulls have.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
The first lead of the night.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
The Chicago Bulls are six and one on the year
with big win over the Sixers. Maxi did have thirty
nine points against him, But how about Josh Giddy twenty nine,
fifteen and twelve two threes made seven of his first
seven of his eight free throws, like remember when Josh
Giddy couldn't shoot? Wow wow crazy.
Speaker 6 (29:10):

Speaker 6 (29:39):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Okay there, Dan Barr, what do you got, Bud?
Speaker 5 (29:48):
Doug?
Speaker 6 (29:48):
The game today is for better or worse?
Speaker 4 (29:52):
All right?
Speaker 5 (29:52):
This is where I give you a battle of two
subjects in the category. You tell me what is better
or what is worse? We start O. I know we've
done this before, but I just feel it's apropos today.
New York Football squad Giants versus Jets, Doug. If you
were a fan, who you siding with? Who are you
(30:13):
not siding with? In the Giants Jets matchup?
Speaker 1 (30:16):
I'm gonna take the g men because the Giants have
what the Jets are looking for, a quarterback. A quarterback
and you know, scatable injuries bad, but you can as
much as camp Scattabu provide great, great energy for them.
He's a bowling ball. And look, I don't know about
the healing of that broken ankle. When he'll be back.
(30:37):
You can find other running backs. It's really hard to
find another quarterback. The Jets have been searching forever. So yeah,
I'm gonna go Giants for better?
Speaker 5 (30:46):
All right? For better or worse? Doug. Now we're talking
NFL Most Valuable Player candidates? Okay, how about this showdown?
Patrick Mahomes versus Drake May. Who's a better or worse
candidate for NFL mvuh?
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Drake May or who.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
Patrick Mahomes should be on that script right there. Winner,
there's a a winner of this gets a next round matchup.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
MMM, I'm gonna go Drake May. I'm gonna go Drake Man.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
He's been awesome.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
I'm gonna go Drake May.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
I think it's fair enough. He's four to one.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Home is a better quarterback. Drake May is having a
more impactful and better year. Very very important. I mentioned
those two things.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
And and May has slightly shorter odds than Mahomes does.
Mahomes was the favorite at one point, but now Mahomes
has dropped to nine to two. That's plus four fifty,
while May is plus four hundred at four to one.
That's according to bet online. So Drake May right now
the second shortest odds to be NFL MVP. So Drake
May won that one. He advances to face Josh Allen.
(32:00):
Who's the better MVP candidate in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
I'll go Josh Allen because of the early wins that
they had obviously hit a tough spot, the defense struggles.
Speaker 5 (32:12):
I'm gonna go Josh all May's got the victory over
him in Buffalo. He does, yes, but the Bills have
been two really good wins. The dominating performance against the
Panthers than the win against the Chiefs coming out of
the by which people have pointed out right now, if
the playoffs started, the Bills would not excuse me, the
Chiefs would not be in the postseason, so they'd be
(32:34):
on the outside looking in. All right, college football playoff ranking,
Let's jump back to that. What's better or worse? Indiana
at two or Texas A and M at three?
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Who's a better team?
Speaker 5 (32:45):
I know just what ranking?
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Like?
Speaker 5 (32:46):
Should Indiana have been one? Should? Is it a travesty
that Texas A and M is three? What is better
or worse?
Speaker 1 (32:54):
I think it's better that Indiana is a two. You know,
last year no one expected them to win. They had
a really soft schedule. So this year you go to
Oregon and you thump that you beat the Ducks and
it was a all right, we played tougher schedule to
beat them too, So I their schedule is relatively similar.
(33:16):
I do think the SEC is better than the Big ten.
But A and M and A and M did play
LSU before they fired Brian Kelly, before they basically canceled
their season. But I'm gonna take Indiana two as being better.
Speaker 5 (33:29):
Better you know we've got it. We had a scenario
where all of the teams last year that played in
the first round of the College Football Playoff, the home
game ended up advancing winning their quarterfinal game against the
semi finals or onto the semifinals. Indiana, like going to
Notre Dame last year was really cool. I think it'd
(33:49):
be cool for Indiana, Texas, A, and M to have
home games now if they're in their current spot. They
wouldn't be because they'd be automatically slotted in the bowl
games in the quarterfinals. But those home games that we
got last year with Tennessee going to Ohio State and
that Indiana Notre Dame game I mentioned were really cool
atmospheres and in the short history, it shows us that
maybe it benefited those teams to play games, But we
(34:12):
shall see. Moving on to golf, Doug, there was big
news in golf yesterday. Did you know this? As you
were traveling back from Lawrence, Kansas. Live Golf is announced
a change to their format, saying goodbye to the fifty
four hole format that made them so special. By the way,
that's what Live stands for fifty four, the Roman numeral.
(34:33):
They're now going to seventy two holes, Doug, So what's
the better golf format for live or worse? Seventy two
holes or fifty.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Four fifty four?
Speaker 5 (34:48):
Yeah? Worse, right, or you like it better because it
was unique.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Well I'm looking. I'm not a big live golf fan,
but I do like that. Like the whole idea of
live is fifty four fifty four. Like you were different,
now you're the same. That doesn't make any different. Hey,
what are we doing?
Speaker 5 (35:07):
Yes, everybody's wondering the same thing. Why this is what?
Because now that.
Speaker 8 (35:12):
They're not gonna conformed to what the PGA Tour has
done with the exception of how many holes and how
many rounds, it's gonna be the exactly the same. We're
gonna do team format for now until we change that
as well, because people don't really like that.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
Yeah, now they will get the official World Golf Ranking
points because they're seventy two whole events. But it was
kind of the joke yesterday in the golf circles. All right,
final one, Doug, for better or worse? You have now
coached your second opening season game. Yes, Gallagher Aba and
Stillwater versus fog Allen Field House in Lawrence better or worse?
(35:48):
Which one for?
Speaker 1 (35:49):
What?
Speaker 5 (35:49):
What part experience, opening game, the whole deal.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Well, I think fog Allen's the best place in college basketball.
I think Oklahoma States should be more intimidating. And it's
the It's actually probably even more like Lambeau because Lambeau
has the mix of old and new ors. Fog Allen's
just old. But when you combined the fact that literally
is an old field house with six championship banners, all
(36:16):
the retired numbers, how the fans show up, how they're
great basketball fans, how good that program is. There's nothing
better than fog Gown. I'll go fog Down is better.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
And that is game time.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
Game.
Speaker 6 (36:31):
This is game time on The Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
And yeah, I didn't enjoy the experience though coaching they
we were guys, are a little shell shocked over, Yeah,
a little little shell shocked.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
So did you end up swapping tape?
Speaker 1 (36:48):
