(00:22):
First of all, I always like to say this, monsie
whenever I'm doing a holiday Merry Christmas to everybody who's
listening to us, because there are a lot of you know,
we are quote unquote working, but we're really not working.
We're talking sports for the next four hours. Chris just
told you about the NFL, NBA. There are a lot
of people that are working, that are driving, that are traveling.
So I always like to say one, We're taking you
(00:43):
up till seven pm Eastern time. We hope you enjoy
spending part of your holiday with us. We appreciate you
spending part of your holiday with us, and I always
like to tweet us at Aaron Underscore, Torres, at Monty Belanios,
Where are you listening? How are you listening? Are you
at work? Because it's Christmas and we're happy to be
with you. For the next four hours. How are you mons?
How was your Christmas Eve?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
You know, it was really mellow and chill, and I
have no problem with that. Usually every year this is
like a busy week, right, everybody wants to see you,
whether it's like the twenty first, second, twenty third, twenty four.
Luckily I was in Vegas and I was saying, you know,
with the parents. I know, we were texting until I
told you I'm taking another tequila show.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
You're not gonna hear from me after this one.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
But it was mellow because I'm going to my mom's
after work today, so later today we'll be doing like
the family Christmas in the evening because they're awesome and
waiting for me to get off work.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
I was gonna ask, are you've a family of Christmas
Eve or Christmas Day? But I just got the.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Answer, well whatever, whenever, we're all available.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Oh okay, you know what I'm saying Because of me, yeah,
because of our type of work era it really they're
flexible with me, even though I'm sure they're getting to
my mom's probably by now, because we do have two
little nephews and they're going to be spoiled all day.
But growing up, we basically had Christmas Eve with the family,
but Christmas.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Day is when Sanna came.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Oh, he would celebrate Christmas Eve together and then in
the morning Santa's presence, which I always wondered when I
was little.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
I would ask my parents or like be like.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Mom, Dad, Santa uses the same rabbing paper.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
How crazy? How crazy?
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (02:13):
And what a fun time?
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Right?
Speaker 1 (02:14):
And it's crazy because all of the little kids listening, Yes,
Santa uses the same.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
It really do your parents, they really do? Because convenient.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
I was gonna say, he knows when you're sleeping, and
he knows when you're awake exactly, and he knows what
wrapping paper your parents use. It's unbelievable what that guy knows. Yeah,
so we uh, we're here. We are monitoring a couple games.
First of all, I'm glad to hear you're you're having
a good Christmas. We did our Christmas. My wife's family
is a big Christmas Eve family. So we were up
pretty late last night. And so this is actually nice
(02:42):
for me because I'll go home, it'll be chill, I
don't have to entertain I can watch maybe some NBA,
maybe some NFL and all that. So uh again, we
hope everybody's having a good Christmas. And let's dive into this, Monzi,
because right now on NBA in sports No.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
That's right right now in the NBA, that's the right
way to start.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Well, you know, it's a tale of two sports right
now and the ghost of Christmas past. When we were
growing up, it was always NBA, Shaq and Kobe. You know,
it's crazy. Actually, last night, as I was waiting for
everybody to get ready, I was flipping channels, the NBA
TV had a nineteen ninety Pistons Bowls game and you
could feel how big it was, like like Piston's bad boys,
(03:22):
like throwing elbows and stuff. And over the last couple
of years, and I've been at Fox Sports Areo since
twenty eighteen, so I've seen this evolution. Like you, I
work a lot of the holidays. Twenty twenty was really
the first year that the NFL tried to put a
game on Christmas Day, and it was really I don't
know if people remember the history. It was essentially that
the NBA bubble, if you remember, ended really late in
(03:45):
like the fall of twenty twenty, and the NBA was
trying to decide do we start on Christmas Day? Do
we start before Christmas Day? Do we start after Christmas Day?
And the NFL was like, oh, We'll just got and
you go back and look because I was on with
Arnie Spaniard during this game. It was a Vikings Saint
game on Christmas Day. Alvin Kamara had like six t d's.
Of course he did, and me and Arnie were talking
(04:06):
about it. We were like, did you watch basketball today?
Speaker 5 (04:08):
No?
Speaker 1 (04:09):
No, did you know? We were watching this Alvin Kamara game?
And so every year you could feel it building. The
NFL officially last year on a Tuesday, put three games
on Christmas Day. Really it felt like really buried the NBA.
You fast forward to twenty twenty five, going into twenty
twenty six, the NFL, we basically have essentially five of
(04:29):
the six teams that are playing today eliminated. The Kansas
City Chiefs are obviously on like their seven string quarterback
post Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew. So you brought up
this point to me and you just said it. The
NBA game right now is awesome. Spurs Okac Wemby Shay
and it goes throughout the day. The NFL is a
lot of a lot of dudes you never heard of,
(04:51):
you know, from North Colorado State playing for the Kansas
City Chiefs. So I think it's kind of interesting. The
NFL thought they were gonna kind of plant their flag
on Christmas Day, and it feels like the reverse has
kind of happened and that the NBA is kind of
picking up some traction today because the product in the
NFL isn't going to be very good.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
I mean, it's just crazy because the NFL is king.
We all know that there's no denying that, right, But
when you think of Christmas, I do associate still till now,
even though the last couple of years we've had NFL,
I've always associated the NBA on Christmas Day, And this
year is a perfect example of the NFL getting a
little too greedy with scheduling so many games. Obviously, when
(05:32):
they scheduled these games, they did not anticipate the situation
that they are in.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
These could have been good games, but.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
They sure did so a little bit of bad luck, yes,
of course. But I feel like there's a really big
difference with Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Erin it's the tradition. It's the tradition you're expecting the
NFL on Thanksgiving, not the NBA.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
On Thanksgiving, you're going to actually sit and watch the NFL.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Right The NBA you can have it on in the background,
and on Christmas Day there's so much going on.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
You've got, you know, people opening gifts and having a
good time. The NBA you can tune in and out
of and catch five minutes of good basketball and then
you're not gonna be upset that you miss the next quarter.
But then you jump back in at the end and
it's back and exciting. So it's a little bit different.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
If there was one NFL game today, Aaron.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Even a bad one, even the Commanders and the and
the and the Cowboys. If there was one NBA game,
everybody would have had it on because it's just one.
But then you have three and you're kind of like, uh,
And then compare it to the NBA slate. The first
game the Cavs and the Knicks NAGI was so fun
from beginning to end.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
I really thought the Calves were gonna win.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
In that third quarter they pulled away and they put
their foot on their throats, and then all of a sudden,
the next were like no, no, We're not done like
that from beginning to end. The NBA slate today is
more exciting, not just on paper, but an actual you know,
in front of us as we're watching Victor Wan Binyama
go up again Chet Holmgren, which is gonna be a
rivalry for who knows how long.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
No, one hundred percent, And you know, it's just it's
interesting how it all played out with the NFL of
you know, I just what you said is such a
good point about the idea of if it was one game,
but when they try to take over the whole day.
I remember last year I was in this same time
slot with VJ. Husky, and I remember I don't want
to put words in VJ. Husky's mouth. Love VJ. Right,
(07:23):
but we were talking about how it got to a
point last December where and I said this on air
and I'm gonna own it. And I know we're supposed to. Oh,
there's only so many football games, and if you don't
like football, you're not American and you're the worst about
Here was the thing. Last year. We had a Thursday
night game, we had Saturday NFL, we had Sunday NFL,
we had Monday Night football, we had Tuesday all day,
(07:46):
which was Christmas Day, And I remember VJ sitting in
the same seat you're sitting in right now, saying, I'm
trying to open my gifts with my kids and I
think it was chiefs Raiders was it. And he's like,
he's like, I can't do it all. And I said
the same thing, is like, you know, I'm as invested
in what we and I know we all are. I'm
not saying that, but like I try to watch as
much as we can. But when you're asking fans five
(08:08):
days out of you know, so let's just do the calendar, right.
So last Thursday we had what was at Seahawks Rams,
which feels like forever thousand years ago, and then we
had Saturday NFL the Bears great game. I was on
air when that happened, Eagles game whatever. Then Sunday, then Monday,
now it's Wednesday, and now that there's a game Thursday,
and then guess what, It's just it's a lot. And
(08:29):
I think to your point, if it was one game
to kind of wrap up the day, everybody's head evening. Yeah, yep,
like you said, you guys are having Christmas dinner. Maybe
it's out of the background. But to ask fans to
commit nine ten hours on Christmas Day, it's kind of
a wild thought process when you think about it.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, And again this wasn't the plan. Like
these could have been good games. But would you have
really paid attention and sat down the way you sit
on Thanksgiving to watch these games.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
I don't know if I would have.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
It's great call.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
There's so many things going on, and I don't even
have kids. Sure, and you have a dog, well you know,
runs your world. Yeah yeah, no, But no, by the way,
I'm so screwed up on my days. I said there's
gonna be a Thursday game.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
More.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
No, but you got there. You said Wednesday, there's games there.
We got there. It's fine. Nobody's blaming you. Again, nobody
knows what day it is.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
It is it is. Let me ask you this. I
was say about this on the drive in a little
causation correlation, Like we say, the NFL got unlucky because
you know, Patrick Mahomes is hurt. The Lions have a
bunch of injuries. Obviously, Jayden Daniels has essentially been on
the lineup most this season. I was saying about this,
I think there's almost like a causation correlation thing of
(09:40):
you're asking these guys now to play so much like
obviously the Chiefs are the extreme example, right, but you
remember last year there was the stat of because I
think Christmas Day was on a Tuesday, and they played
every single day of the week except for Wednesday. So
they played the Tuesday Christmas game, they played a Thanksgiving game.
I think last year they played Sundays, they played Monday,
they played a Friday to open the season. And I
(10:03):
do think like, when you're asking these professional athletes and
then you know to not only play this physical sport,
but also some weeks you get ten days off between games,
some days you get three days off. You know that
all these teams just played on Sunday. I think there's
a little bit of a causation correlation of like, yeah,
(10:23):
at some point, the Chiefs were going to break down
because you're expecting them to headline every single marque thing
that you're doing. Oh, you want to do Friday night
in Brazil, Send the Chiefs. You want to do Thanksgiving?
Who can we put against the Cowboys? Send the Chiefs. Oh,
now it's Christmas Day, Send the Chiefs. Oh, there's a
couple of Mondays or you know what I'm saying. So
I don't know that it's there's any way to prove it,
but I do kind of feel like this was always
(10:43):
going to be the end result with a team like
the Chiefs. I think the Lions kind of fit that bill. Ironically,
Dallas fits that bill though they don't really have the
injuries necessarily. But I do think there's, like I said,
a little causation correlation of like we could sit there
and say the NFL got unlucky, but what do you
expect when the Chiefs are on this crazy schedule where
every week it's a little bit different as opposed to
a team that's playing mostly Sundays.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
You know, that's a really good good point. It's almost
seemed like there's a there's a burden for being good. Yeah,
like you keep moving me all the way around. And
that's a really great point.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
If I am the NFL, Like if I'm players of
the NFL, I would be against these Christmas Days or
these Christmas games that are not just today's Thursday. There'd
be one game in the evening. Sure, like that's normal,
but to kind of change the schedule in a time
where it's kind of busy and things are so just
up in the air, even at home.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
You would think that they would that they would fight this,
like with the.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Union and being like you know what I'm saying, like, no,
just one game. If it lands on a game, we're
on a day we're supposed to play, so that everybody else.
We already devote Thursday Thanksgiving to this, can we not
do this on Christmas Day?
Speaker 3 (11:47):
It's it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
If I am the players, I would definitely be annoyed
by the schedule. And yeah, I know they make a
lot of money. That's not to say, we're just saying
keep a regular schedule. That's what we're saying during this
busy week, keep a normal schedule.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
And they may make of money, but they want to play.
They want to be on the field, like I can play. Well, yes,
I was gonna say, you know the point you brought up,
and not to keep jumping back and forth between points,
but the point about like there's something about Thanksgiving where
you kind of eat and it's like kind of built
It's like what do they say, like built into the
cake or something like that, of like, oh yeah, just
football is gonna be on all day you know, maybe
(12:21):
you're gonna be snacking early and there's a game on
and then you eat dinner, or maybe you eat early
and then you're sitting on the couch and there's football
I and maybe maybe we get there in twenty years
with the NFL. That is not anyone's schedule on Christmas
that I'm aware of. And I'm kind of curious from
your like social circle perspective. And I don't know if
you have anybody outside of your family that you've talked
to about this, but like, I haven't, now that I
(12:43):
think about it, I haven't really heard like a lot
of people being like, yeah, well, you know, we had
to move up Christmas early because you know, we can't
miss the Broncos game, you know what I mean. It's
like absolutely not like it'll be there. But I have
yet to hear anybody kind of in my social circles
like rearranging Christmas. And I do think that does happen
on Thanksgiving to a degree. Cowboys play at four o'clock whatever, Yeah,
(13:05):
you know, of course it does.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Yes, yeah, okay, of course it does on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
What times the game you guys want to watch?
Speaker 2 (13:10):
It starts out four Okay, do we should we serve
food at three thirty so everyone is calmly ready to
watch a kickoff. No, And it's like in during Thanksgiving
you have the people. It's like this room is gonna
have the game on a time at all times, and
this is where, no, you don't talk during the game.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
This is where we're actually watching the game.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
And then you have another room where the game is
on in the background and you can talk amongst yourselves
and like change the subject. And then there's a room
where there is no game on and people are over
there focusing on other things. When it comes to NBA
on Christmas or the NFL on Christmas, it's like, priority
is Christmas, family presence, whatever traditions you have, that's the priority,
(13:49):
and everything comes later.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
The other thing too, about basketball and now and I'm
thinking about it, it's more of like an in and
out sport, right, So like two things. One, if you're
just watching, like you said, you can kind of be
in and out. You really only have to watch the
fourth quarter, for being honest, even like the last four
minutes the fourth quarter in a good game like this
Spurs OKC game, Like there will be no point during
our four hours on air where we're like, remember in
(14:12):
the second quarter when Wenby hit that fade, Like, no,
that's not really how the sport works. But I was
gonna say too, the games are quicker. And then even
if you're going I actually many years ago went to
a Lakers Christmas Day game back in the day, and
you go and you leave and you're done. We're like
the NFL again all day committed. I don't even know
where I'm going with this. I just think it's something
(14:32):
I hadn't really thought about, the Thanksgiving versus Christmas parallel.
But I do think there's something too like Christmas. Like
I said, you're running between ten different families and the
kids are opening presents, and now the kids are playing presents,
and then somebody's crying in the other room because someone's
start you know what I mean. And it's like, I
don't know, there's just something that feels very football ye
about Thanksgiving that it hasn't translated to Christmas yet. And
(14:54):
I'm not saying it will never happen, but it certainly
doesn't feel like it to this point.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
And no, it's not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Also, what you said, I just wanted to stop you
but I wanted you to finish your thought, I was
gonna say, And you're speaking like a true non basketball
fan saying that you only need to tune in to the.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Final park and you know what it's like, I understand
what you.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Mean by that, that you really can just and you're
not the first person that's.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Ever seen you literally just said a few minutes ago
you could come in and out whatever.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
You you absolutely can't.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
I'm just saying, like a perfect if you like the NBA,
the Calves Knicks game today was everything that I wanted
a game because it went up and down, up and down.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I thought the Knicks, we're dead, and then they.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Came back alive right before half, and then I thought
they were dead again, and I legit was like, there's
no way the Knicks come back from this, and then
they came back. But that's part of the rollercoaster of
watching an NBA game.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
It is up and down, and you're right that you
can tune in at the very.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Last five minutes of the game and probably catch the
best of it.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
But speaking like a true non NBA fan.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Well, and lastly, we'll put a bow on this by saying,
you know, the other thing that's annoying about the NFL
on Christmas Day, no disrespect, But it's on Netflix, It's
on Fix, and I can't figure out my password right now,
so I'm not supposed to say this as the guy
that's supposed to be keeping America up on Cowboys Commanders.
It is currently twenty seven to thirteen as we get
(16:13):
about a minute and a half left in the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
I promise you twenty seven to seventeen.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
It is What did I say? Twenty seven thirteen seventeen?
Sorry is the point. I'm all over the place right
now because I can't log into Netflix. Can we just
play it on main TV? Anyway? Twenty seven to seventeen,
Dallas leads Washington and now here in our Fox Sports
radio studios, the Spurs are up forty three to thirty seven.
(16:39):
Is that that can't be right? Eleven minutes, it says,
eleven minutes in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Might Yeah, it's I think they're giving you now that's wrong.
It's the second quar quarter. It's definitely the second quarter.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
So see I'm not the only one screwing up because
the second quarter back. Yeah, so three to twenty eight
in the second quarter, even though the score bug on
TV says the first quarter, not listen. I can't log
into Netflix. ESPN can't get their graphics right. But you
know what, It's Christmas Day, so we're getting fucked. Manzi
Blanio's er Torres Fox Sports Radio and they did just
they're listening to Fox names in the ESPN truck because
(17:14):
it is forty five thirty eight, ten fifty six to
go in the second quarter in Oksee Manzi Bolonios er Torres.

All you have to do for a chance to win

(19:29):
at seven thirty eastern New Year's Eve. That's, of course,
the Miami Ohio State Cotton Bowl. Again. Just fill out
your bracket at Foxsports Radio dot iHeart dot com for
your chance to win one thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Have you filled out your bracket?
Speaker 1 (19:43):
You know what's crazy? The challenge went live during my
show on Saturday night. After I guess it was the
James Madison Oregon game. I was like, oh, I'll do
it right now. Still haven't done yet?
Speaker 3 (19:54):
You still haven't done?
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Is it because you don't do do you know what
you'd want to pick? Or is there like a matchup
that you are not as confident? So that's why really
you're not you haven't done it?
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Okay, So this is the brat.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Dive into the Aaron Torres.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Well, this is the bracket conundrum. And this is actually
a perfect segue to your boy Trinidad Chandlerson half a second.
But so, my big I have two big takes for
the second round of the college football Playoff. I think
Miami Ohouse State. I think Miami is gonna make things
tough for Ohio State. I don't know if they can win.
But here is my real conundrum, and this is the
same thing filling out of March Madness bracket. I think
(20:30):
the winner of Texas Tech Oregon huh, will beat the
winner of Indiana Alabama. I'm just not sure if I
like Texas Tech or Oregon in that game. So whoever
wins that game, I will have playing for the national championship.
I'm leaning Oregon right now, but I'm not one hundred
percent sure. So that's where I'm at. Do you know
(20:52):
who you like in the college football Playoff? I mean,
you're you know, my vacation I'm in college. Proud of you.
By the way, because I listen, I don't want to
put you on the spot. I would say growing up
you were more of an NBA NFL kind of girls.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
That question, no question about it. Yes, baseball, yes.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
And yeah, of course yeah, you great coverage of the Dodgers,
and uh, you do the show with Martin Weiss before
me on Saturday. So Martin Weiss and Monte Bolanio's five
to eight Pacific, eight to eleven Eastern, correct, and then
I'm on at eleven eastern and I have to listen.
I've seen you spread your little college football butterfly wings
over the last six months or so, and so it's
(21:29):
been awesome. You know, you're you're you're diving in, You're
breaking down Michigan's dog yard, and you're, oh, Texas Tech.
I don't know that's secondary against the past attack of
b YU. You're just peppering me in the hallway with questions. So,
how have you enjoyed this college football season?
Speaker 3 (21:47):
It's been a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
And I think part of the reason it's been a
lot of fun is because I don't care, Like I'm
not hurt by anything. And I also, like, you know,
at the start of the season, Martin was like, you
should pick a team and like follow them, But I
feel like that's such a I'm such a fraud, Like
I can't just pick a team that I root for
with my entire heart, Like I went to kelse Fuller, Jay,
there was a football team there, you know what I mean,
(22:09):
Like it's there's no real connection sure for me to
just pick a team and go for it from beginning
to end. So it's been super fun. I'm rooting. I'm
rooting for a couple of teams. Oh, I mean I'm.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Rooting for Indiana, for Nanda Mendoza. I mean I am
I'm rooting for Indiana. I'm also rooting for Ole miss Wow.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Okay, so this is a perfect segue, by the way,
perfect segue, by the way, Brandon Aubrey lining up for
a field goal to give the Cowboys a twenty thirty
to twenty lead. Our guy, Brandon Aubrey just missed the
field He missed.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Because he definitely beat me to get to the playoffs
in one of my fantasy football leagues.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
He's a cheat code. I can't believe he missed. He's
missed the last couple of weeks, a couple of months.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
He did well. He just missed.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
There.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
It is twenty seven to twenty Dallas with thirteen thirty
one to go in the second half or in the
fourth quarter. Excuse me, by the way, San Antonio up
fifty three forty six, five point fifty four in the
NBA game. All right, so we mentioned college football playoff,
we mentioned old Miss Trinidad Chamblas.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
So there's sad story, great story.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
There's a great story, but it doesn't I don't get
the vibe that you're happy with the potential ending of
the Trinidad Chamblas story. So let me just set this up.
And there's a lot of different directions to go, but
we can focus on Trinidad Champlains for now. Is that
for years, as somebody who loves college sports, all I
ever heard was, oh, college, these players are being exploited.
(23:35):
Let them go, bro, it's so terrible. Well, now with nil,
the reality is unless you're basically like a first round
pick in either of these major sports major league NFL
or college NBA, and really I don't even think that's
the case, you're probably going to make more money in college.
(23:56):
And so we not only see guys so like, I'll
give you a quick side example, but there's a quarter
named Brendan Soresby from Cincinnati. He'd be like a fourth
round pick. What Will Howard? This was Will Howard a
few years ago. He's like, I can be a fourth
round pick and be on a practice squad, or I
can make two and a half million at Ohio State. Yeah,
I'll go to Ohio State and be the quarterback at
Ohio State. Well, we have that situation. Basketball is another
(24:17):
situation we'll get to in a second. But your guy,
Trinidad Chambliss began his career. It is a great story.
D two fair Estate decides to go in the portal
and if I understand it correctly, like Lane Kiffin and
Charlie West Junior basically saw film of him on Twitter
and we're like, Oh, this guy's interesting, bring him in.
He still he gets the job. He keeps the job.
(24:38):
He's been one of the most impactful players in college football.
But now he's arguing that he deserves another year because
of weird injuries and this and that, even though under
the bylaws he actually doesn't qualify. He's fighting for another
year of college football. And I just think he's a
good metaphor for this world that we live in. Unless
you're one of the as the kids say, unless you're
one of those ones, you're trying to stay in college sports.
(25:01):
So anyway, I'm rambling enough. You take it where you
want to. Because it's a crazy world that we live in.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
It's such a crazy it is a crazy situation and
there's so much to it. But I do think Trinidad
Chadliss is the perfect person to discuss this situation because
I'm rooting for him.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
The story is great, Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (25:18):
I hope old mis gets far, especially because stupid line given.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
But that's a separate conversation. I'm rooting for him, but no, popping,
you can't play another year, Like, no, you can't do that.
You can't, and I like you, you can't do it.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Right now, I feel like it is getting blurrier and
blurrier between professional sports and college and that's not what
it should be. College should be an experience with the
expiring date, Like once you start the clock, that's it.
And I know COVID happened. We're past that.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Don't tell me you need another year because COVID, we
are past all of that.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
You can't be twenty five years old playing against college kids.
You just can't.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
And I know you're making more money.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
I understand all that, but you know what, life is unfair,
and it's just.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
It makes pretty much pretty much we're gonna.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Be saying that, like college is a minor professional league system,
it's gonna be amateur professional. That's where we're getting to
erin that is basically gonna just be minor league.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Is that just call it that? So calling a college
call it minor league?
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Well, and it leads very interestingly to a story that
happened yesterday, which is crazy. Okay, So James Nase, you know,
again to use a very gen z term. Not sure
if you're familiar with his game. Okay, that's more of
a shock term. I guess thirty first overall pick in
the twenty twenty three NBA draft because he was so
(26:48):
let me even backtram last couple of months, there have
been certain schools that are pushing the boundaries of like
what is actually acceptable, like how far will the NCA
allow this to go? Okay? And so we have had
basically it started with there's a bunch of European players
coming over and they're kind of professionals and they're twenty two,
but they're not gonna play in the NBA, so who cares?
(27:10):
And then what we were doing was there was a
couple guys in the G League that had never gone
to college, and so it was like, well, they're in
the G league, but they're not playing in the NBA
and they never got drafted.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Whatever.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
I bring it up because on Wednesday, I know you
were in with Dan in this spot. I don't know
if you guys hit on this or not.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
We didn't.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Okay, So Baylor signed this guy named James Nausei was
drafted in the twenty twenty three NBA draft. Now he
has never played in an NBA game, but his rights
were owned I believe by the Timberwolves. He was actually
part of the Carl Anthony Towns Julius Randall trade.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
He committed to Baylor and he is going to play
at Baylor. And so I will say, now, I don't
really care because I could have told you five years ago, hey,
if you put in unlimited transfers, if you put in
unlimited nil, bad stuff is gonna happen. Crazy stuff is
gonna happen because coach just want to win. I don't
really care, but I do think there probably is a
(28:06):
line in the sand of a twenty three year old
who was drafted by an NBA team that is now
going to play college basketball this year. And I'll tell
you what Manzi. I just I know this for a
fact unless somebody stops this, and I don't know who
can stop it at this point, because the NCAA has
no teeth, they can't do anything about this. We're going
(28:31):
schools are trying going to try to get players eligible
that have played in the NBA. Like assume you're Manzi
Bolanos or I'm Aritrrez and I got drafted fifty first
overall and I played three games last year and I'm
back in the G League and I'm not making very
much money. Someone is going to try to sign me.
This is not going to stop. And so to your point,
I think we have officially reached the point of critical
(28:52):
mass where this is all just one big glob of
college sports with the NBA, with the NFL. And uh,
it's no, that's great.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
He's I don't I don't know if he's twenty three.
I thought he was twenty one. But it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
He's twenty one and he got four years. That was
the other part too, Yeah, give him a year ago.
You're giving him four.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, this is just okay.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Listen, any any college volleyball teams. Nita Lebaro, I've never
played college volleyball. Can you go sign me?
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Why can't I?
Speaker 3 (29:24):
I signed her to go play volleyball. I still play volleyball.
I could, I could do it. That sounds ridiculous, but
that's where we're getting to.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
It is, that's where we're getting to you already, and
it's I know it's it's the money.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Erin is always the money.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
It's the right, like I just but you can't. You
There has to be like a hard a hard no.
You can't keep blending this or making it great. Dangle Pavia,
you're responsible for all this. You can't keep on Broadway.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
That's what he's gonna do.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
He's gonna play a seventh year. I bet he's gonna
find some loophole.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
There has to be like a hard a hard line
when it comes to college sports and how many years
you can actually play and.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Once you've got, once you've left, you're done. You know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Yes, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
This guy's crazy.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
So a couple of things. One, I want to continue
this conversation because I think there's a couple of side
effects too. You mentioned dudes twenty five twenty six playing
college sports. Here's what John Calperry said a few weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
There are a lot of older gentlemen with beards playing
basketball in college right now.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
There are so.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
You you know, the one that's crazy is the kid.
The guy comes in and you're and he's waving to
his kids up in the seats, and you're like, wait
a minute, the guy got two kids. He's still playing
college basketball. Crazy thing. He's using nil for his first
wife's alimony and now he's still playing college basketball.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Are we nuts?
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (30:47):
That was Josh Calperry on the state of college sports.
So I'll tell you what. I actually have a lot
more on this. I think there's a lot more meat
on this phone. Yeah, a couple things. First of all,
the road to Milan runs through Saint Louis See. Ilia, Molina,
Lissa lou and Amber Glenn compete at the twenty twenty
six Prevegin US Figure Skating Championships January seventh through eleventh.
(31:07):
Be there as the twenty twenty sixth US figure skating
team is named Live tickets at US figure Skating dot org,
us figure Skating dot Org. All right, we're gonna continue
this conversation because much like NCAA eligibility clocks, we're just
gonna keep this thing going all day long. We give
that in a minute. Chris Perfet on the updates. My man,
(31:27):
what very Christmas going on, Chris professo miracle out here
that we're all around here. Yes, thank you, thank you, Bill,
Mary Christmas. I'm glad you're here. By the yule ule
log as well. Do we still do a ulogs? We'll
set one on fire around here somewhere. Yeah, that seems
that seems appropriate.
Speaker 7 (31:44):
Let's start in the NFL where there are NFL games
going on. This Cowboys Commanders game has been a little
closer than we anticipated. Twenty seven to twenty the current score,
Dallas with the ball, ten minutes to go in the
fourth quarter, and nothing says Christmas quite like German. Would
you like to hear the German call of one of
Dak Prescott's touchdowns?
Speaker 2 (32:08):
I'm usaying, frankieluvo bike foone you flo a comnique Prescott's
with him, t F parts and play flog it down off.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
The floon, tartpred and the strap. Dallas Cowboys want to
play a lot a good sound, Andy en zoning, Yeah,
it just it.
Speaker 7 (32:28):
It sounds festive. It's I'm not even sure what the
right word is for. We get all half of it
from German toy and I got it. It was about Prescott
and Turpin.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
I got it.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
What a flag on the play too? Yeah, I didn't
know that I spoke German because I end zone. I
understood it.
Speaker 7 (32:42):
You get a lot of stuff. I mean, just it's
easier language to think of. You think that is one
of two touchdowns for Dak Prescott on this day. Jacoby
Krossky merit with the two touchdowns for the Commanders, including
a seventy two yard run that I would like to play,
but EMMITTT. Smith would not stop talking over so we're
going to save him at that sound. Coming up at
(33:04):
four thirty pm Eastern time, Lions taking on the Minnesota Vikings.
Four starters out for the Vikings today, including Jordan Mason
and TJ. Hawkinson. Illness seems to be hampering the Lions.
Offensive Tackle Taylor Decker was a late addition to the
injury report with illness and he is inactive. And even
though he was on the report for illness, David Montgomery
will play despite the designation, So keep your eye on
(33:26):
your fancy rosters for.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
That NBA action.
Speaker 7 (33:29):
Earlier on the day, thirty four points for Jalen Brunson
as the Knicks put up a forty two fourth quarter
to power past the Cavaliers one twenty six one t four. Currently,
the Spurs opening up quite a lead here in the
dying minutes of the first half, sixty seven fifty four
the score right now, although I think we're about to
get a three.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Nope, that's off. That's that's a brick.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
James.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Yeah, yeah, I do that. I can do that. We
can do that all day.
Speaker 7 (33:56):
And then last night in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, backup
uarter back Luke Weaver for the Rainbow Warriors through a
twenty two yard touchdown pass with ten seconds remaining, securing
victory in front of a home crowd in Honolulu thirty
five thirty one over the California Golden Bears.
Speaker 1 (34:13):

and that one Detroit, Minnesota next. As mentioned, the Knicks
took care of business in the first game of our
Christmas Day. I don't know how to say it. There's
five games. It's not a quadruple header quadruple header plus one?
Is it like sinquental?
Speaker 3 (36:18):
I didn't even know what you were trying to say.
I can't help you. Five sinkle? It's like, course he
going with this.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
It's a quadruple header plus one.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
That's what we call a sinkle.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yes, well, we're at halftime of the second game of
our quadruple header plus one. San Antonio up sixty nine
to sixty So Knicks win game one? How about future
Nick James Nause circle back to this, so James Naji
will be quick on this committed to Baylor yesterday. We
wouldn't normally talk about this except he was literally drafted
(36:53):
in the NBA two years ago, has not played an
NBA game, and has now signed on to play college basketball.
I only bring it up. We talked about a little
bit before the break. I think it actually creates so
like so, and I think the bigger picture conversation is
there are clearly going to be no boundaries now as
to like I don't think I think it's gonna be
(37:14):
very hard for the NCAA to just say you're not eligible,
because they're gonna get suped. And so I only bring
it up because I think it just sets up some
very interesting things like what if James Nause I don't
think he will, Like what if he just blows up
and he's awesome? Like can the Knicks call him up
in the middle of the season, Like what if Karl
(37:34):
Anthony Towns sprains an ankle? You know, So there's a
lot of just different things, by the way, I think
from the college perspective, if there's no deadlines and guys
can just come and go as they please, what happens
to guys that get drafted and aren't happy with where
they're draft. There's just so many variables to it. I know,
I'm just kind of throwing this at you, willy nilly,
but you could take it wherever you are. By What
is Shaq wearing right now on inside the NBA? Unbelievable?
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Wait wait, he's he is the season. He's wearing a
little red.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
I like the sport code, but he's wearing a top hat.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
Yeah, he's only a topic. I will say, Uh, Ernie
looks great with the green. Yeah, that green looks really good.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
I like that. I like that.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
You all are good, but Ernie is in theme extra.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
So, according to this New York Post article, his collegiate
career does not impact his status with the Knicks. New
York still holds his draft rights. So let's say he
finishes in four years, does he just go back to
the Knicks. It's so connec No, no, no, no, this doesn't
make any sense. You have to you what do you
mean that people are gonna get suited of the NCAA
(38:37):
doesn't give him a eligibility.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
What do you mean by that? If you you've left
there's I don't.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Understand how difficult it is to actually have legit structure
for college there especially now.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Well, because I'm not listening, I'm not a lawyer. If
we have any lawyers listening here on Christas, yes you can,
Sweet Aaron Underscore tours mom at Manzi Milannios. I don't
really understand all of it, but there's some sort of
like worker rights, like you know, they're taking away your
right to earn money and they're not employees, so they.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
Get because this is school. Yeah, this is school. You're
supposed to be the school you're suppo. Also, back then
you had to study. I don't even know these kids
are studying anyone.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
Well I saw a headline. I haven't actually heard the audio.
Joe Clad apparently went off of this. Nobody's even going
to class anymore.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
It's like, yeah, I'm not surprised by any of that,
but and you can't just keep doing this just to
make money and tell me that you're that the NCAA
is preventing you from making money.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
Go get a job because you're supposed to be in school.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
And that's my I think bigger picture takeaway is as
somebody who loves college basketball, like if you didn't want
to be there, like I actually the Trinidad Chambliss thing.
I have less problem with the players that are trying
to figure out a way to stay, but the dudes
that were like, come out and come back their nose.
I'm too good for you. You know, you go back
five six years, nobody want to play, Oh we're gonna
(39:55):
start this overtime elite there or this uh G league
I night thing that you I want to be there.
You can't just circle back and just decide that now
because you can make good money that you want to
be That's the part that actually bothers me. But I
think it's gonna be a weird thing where I actually
do think the NBA and the NCAA kind of have
to come to an agreement because it can hurt the
NBA too. As far as like dudes just you know,
(40:18):
like I said, James, not as you could go to
the Knicks. But to your point, what if the Knicks
need him? He's like, no, I'm just staying at Baylor. Like,
but we own your rights, but you don't know the right.
It's just a very weird situation. I'll tell you what.
We got three more hours to discuss it all. So
Manzi bilanios Errators were on until seven pm Eastern Time,
will come back. It is Christmas Day. We're handing out
