Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio Coming to you from
the tyride dot Com studios tyrid dot com. When we
get there, unmatched election, fast free shipping, free road as
protection over ten thousand recommending stallars, tyright dot com, so
way tyer bring should be. Hey, welcome in. We got
(00:41):
a heck of a show for you. I'm in a
really good show, I think, so you're welcome. We haven't
started yet, but you're definitely welcome. John middlekoffeld join us.
We'll ask him about what I thought was just a
debacle at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys last time.
Not a dibacle because of how they played, A debacle
(01:03):
because of one play in particular, which honestly could have
won them the game, easily could have won them the game. Instead,
it bread new life into the Cincinnati Bengals who then
end up winning the game and keeping some hopes of
their season live. But look, there's so much to get
(01:24):
into in the rest of the world sports waiting to
see if there's confirmation on Bill Belichick. One reporter who's
not a traditional college football reporter saying Bill Belichick's gonna
be the new head coach at North Carolina. We'll see
when the more traditional guys kind of receive word, if
you will. I have some thoughts on Ajdamansa taking apparently
(01:47):
signing with BYU. He's the number one overall recruit, and yeah,
I can talk about a recruit because he's not gonna
play for Green Bay, right, It's like pretty well aware
he's not gonna play there. There was one one thing
missing from his first take appearance. Do you guys know
what was missing from his first take appearance where announced
he's going to go play a BYU? Nothing? Huh? I
(02:13):
really huh?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
The hat selection hat.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
No.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
No, It's really interesting. What's still taboo in the world right,
Like in I don't know how many states, but marijuana
still taboo. There are other things. I would say that
one of the big things in mental healthcare is it's
(02:37):
still taboo to say yeah, I go see a psychologist.
For some people, it's like admitting something like you know,
lots of millions upon millions of people seek therapy. There
is nothing wrong with therapy. I would even say with
the with the marijuana or the marijuana thing. Now, I
live in a state where it is not legal, But
(02:58):
in states which is legal, it is ill taboo for
grown adults to announce like, yeah, smoke weed, You're allowed to.
It's again viewed is no different than a beer. If
you're at a home, you're not behind a wheel of
a car, you're not operating every equipment, you're not teaching
school children right like you can. These are things you
can actually do. It's still taboo to say, yeah, BYU
(03:22):
offered me more money than anywhere else, so that's where
I went, and he doesn't have to reveal. There's some
reports of it being seven million dollars. I don't see
that being I don't see that being viable or possible.
But I don't know. Again, I'm not gonna call anybody
a liar. I just know that things that are reported
(03:42):
like that, that doesn't really make financial sense for BYU.
With exception the fact that I think BYU the Church
of Latter Day Saints uses the football basketball program to
spread the gospel of John Smith. Right, so maybe it
is worth it to Ryan Smith, who's the billionaire owner
(04:04):
of the Utah Jazz, who supposedly is funding their NIO collective.
And of course next year you can fund it in
house as well. But what still taboo is aj demands
is saying, yeah, they offered me way more money than
anywhere else, and I'm allowed Parenze rules to take it.
(04:25):
It hasn't been done. All right, we'll get that back
to that upcoming meantime. It's Doug Outlib Show here Fox
Sports Radio. Did you see or hear about what happened
with two minutes to go in the fourth quarter of
the Monday night football game? Game is tied at twenty.
Here's the call in the Dallas Cowboys radio network. All right,
(04:48):
here's the punt by Ryan Raco. Got it?
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Ball is blocked.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
The Bengals.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
You're gonna have the ball? No, can't touch it?
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Why don't block me on the line of scrimmage of
the Bengals are gonna have it at the forty five?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Oh my gosh, can you believe that? So they block
up Hunt, They block up hunt in their own territory, right.
This is one of those if you just let the
ball bounce, nobody touches it, you go about ten fifteen yards,
you kick it, field goal, good night, drive home safely. Instead,
it gives the Bengals new life. The Bengals win the game.
(05:24):
Here's Mike McCarthy about how hard that loss is the stomach.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
Would you say that this might be the toughest pill
to swallow as far as a non playoff loss, you.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Would stick up his head definitely, because I mean, puts
us in the season. You know, you understand it. We
dug ourselves a hole. You know, it's the seven losses
coming in here, so we had we had to have
us one tonight, you know. And yeah, definitely, this is
a very very disappointing loss.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Here's Micah Parsons when he talked about the failed block punt.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
I wasn't even really grasping what was going on. And
they made a great play and uh, and then you know,
I asked to rept you know, explain what happened to
him that we touched the ball. There was definitely a
huge momentum ship. I mean, we just caught a huge
stop we're going to two minute drill. It's just real
hard to you, you think, to believe you could pour
(06:16):
that game out from that situation.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
That hurts, Yeah, it does. By the way, it's not
like the Bengals were perfect. Jamar Chase scored a touchdown
late instead of sliding or taking a knee at the
you know, one foot line where he could have or
you know, I mean, I guess you could have. Although
I thought he I thought he caught the ball in
the end zone, but okay, instead of he got into
(06:43):
the end zone and scored late instead of milking the clock.
Here's Jamar Chase as to why.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
I was thinking about it sliding, but I went to score.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
I was thinking about slide, man.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
I wanted to score. I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Yeah, And he put himself above team. And like I think,
Jamar Chase is as good as anybody who's ever played
the position. But you know, they are what you are?
What is it? You are? What your record says you are?
And uh uh that touchdown was a forty yard touchdown,
but I was thinking of the early one in the
(07:19):
end zonebody catches the ball forty yards and scores and
you kind of got to think at some point the
Cowboys probably let him score. And if you just slide
at the one foot line, clock runs out, game over
after a Maine field goal, that you're you're gonna make
ninety nine percent of the time. Those two plays, by
(07:43):
the way, and again I know that the offense has
not been the problem for the Bengals, but is it
fair and I think it is to say those two plays,
the block punt that was touched and Jamar Chase not
sliding and taking a knee at the one foot line,
(08:04):
those are the perfect examples of why both those teams,
who are very talented are five and eight like. Look,
there's more too. For the Cowboys, they lost Dak Prescott,
They've had injuries on the defensive side. It's been a
bit dysfunctional. There's more to it. For the Bengals, the
defense has been bad. The t Higgins negotiations didn't end
up working out, and there are other reasons. But I
(08:32):
don't know how John Fossil doesn't relay to everybody during
the week throughout the season that if you block a
pund and it's rolling down the field, you do not
have to touch it. If you don't touch it, we
get the ball. If you do touch it and you
fubble it, they can get the ball, and the same
(08:55):
thing happens for the Bengals. Again, is it the end
of the world. Now, there is part of me that says, hey,
score the touchdown and then they got to do more
than kick a field goal to beat you. But if
you slide at the one foot line, remember it's a
twenty all ballgame. The worst thing that could happen is
bot snap on a third down and then maybe you
actually kick it again, or you missed the you miss
(09:19):
what accounts amounts to an old school extra point, and
you go to overtime instead. You put it again in
the hands of your defense. The Bengals have the worst
defense in the NFL, and they end up holding on
for the win. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Dan, So, in watching that last play, it dawned on me,
in seeing on how the Cowboys player muffed the blocked punt,
that he was actually trying to do something that was
similar to what the Cowboys did a couple of weeks
ago in a game against the Washington Commanders, where remember
(09:55):
the on side kick that Washington tried and Jan Yer
Thomas and the Cowboys picked up and ran back. Yes,
and it was not the smart move. If you want
to talk, you know, we're talking about Jamar Chase sliding
and Thomas ran into the end zone and scored. And
even Mike McCarthy and John Fossil at the sidelines during
(10:17):
that game are saying to themselves, wait, why did he
do that? Why did he score? We needed him to
You could see them.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Talking about it just falling the ball.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yes, and that's what I think happened last night.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
If you look, he's in the video several times.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Yeah, it's like he almost lines up in the starting
blocks like he's about to take off to get right.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
I think I think his right foot was like back,
like let's get this. I'm gonna go score a touchdown. Absolutely,
it's the hero complex. It's the same thing as Jamar Chase.
There's no difference there. Everybody wants to be the hero,
the hero shot, score the touchdown, take the picture, hold
on the ball, look what I did. Yeah, it's a
hero complex. By the way, he didn't block the punt.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
I would.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
I would actually have a little bit of understanding for
it is if you block the punt, then you chase
it down right, you know, and you and you pick
it up like, well, I did the hard work. I
blocked the punch. I wanted the football, like, I get that,
But you're like twenty yards down the field.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
The other The other great thing about this, and I
don't know if it's great or not, but the guy
who botched his block that allowed the blocked punt was
the one who recovered the fumble for Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
That's awesome. You never quit a play. Yeah, you have
to play when you when you and look, this is
all part of sort of sort of kind of my
my deal with my own team. You know, we call
it win the margins. You know, there's these little things,
the big things. The shot goes in, doesn't go in, Like, hey,
(11:50):
you you can help those percentages based upon how you're
playing the shots, who's taking them, where they're taking them,
et cetera. But you know, games are decided by plays
like this. It's a sacrifice of self. They talk about
football being the ultimate team game. Those are two guys
on each team that ultimately failed their team. Jamar Chase
(12:10):
failed his team even though he's the best player on
the football field. I'm not criticizing Jamar Chase in wanting
to score a touchdown, and I'm sure playing fantasy owners
are like, yeah, go score that touchdown, But the right
play for that team is to fall down the one
foot line, just like for the Cowboys, same thing. We
(12:31):
all know what the right thing to do is. It's
just hard to do it because your ego, fans, your boys,
did I mention your ego, They will all tell you
go get that ball, pick it up, running back for
a touchdown. You're the hero and you have to find
a way to separate yourself from that and do the
(12:52):
right thing for your team.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
Yes, Jason Stewart, it was amazing in the moment, in
real time as we're watching it, and ESPN did a
good job of showing us as we're watching it in
the moment last night. The slow motion replay of the
reaction of John Fossil and then the reaction of Mike
McCarthy and then Zach Taylor, like the look on their
(13:14):
faces they went, the entire spectrum of the emotions in
each of them was great TV. I know they did
it on purpose, but seeing those three guys react and
so emotion was great TV.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, it was they did. Honestly. That reminded me a
little bit of like Fox's baseball games. You know Foxes
that is known even in basketball, even in football for
doing more close ups than everybody else. And I agree
with you those are I don't know if it wasn't
Monday Night Football, if it gets covered that way. But
they did a very good job and you could you
(13:48):
could feel their emotions watching it on TV. Feel it, really,
feel it. Amazing. Oh, what a terrible way to lose
a game. You get a block punt, Like how many
block punts do we think there are in an NFL season?
Speaker 5 (14:04):
I know?
Speaker 2 (14:05):
And like nobody blocks a punt anymore?
Speaker 3 (14:07):
No, And it was a fourth and twenty seven, and
they actually not that they were pinned back, but they,
as you said, they were in their own territory, deep
in their own territory. So if you're Dallas, you're thinking
set up for a return, because then all we're gonna
need is twenty yards in the world, Brandon Aubrey come
out and kick the field goal, and then they end
up blocking it because a guy whiffs on his block.
(14:28):
And it's the do you guys.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Have the Micah Parsons sound where he says like I
think we're I don't need to say I think we're
cursed or I think, like just you know, everything's going wrong.
Yeah that sound Take a listen to this and I'll
explain why I think we should play it.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
I'm hurt.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
I don't won't wish it on anybody. Seem like we're
paying a dude. That's not fair.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Yeah, here's the thing. Hey, this was a self inflicted wound. Right,
this is a self inflictable. That's I think the biggest problem.
And again I think Michael Parsons, no one would argue
he's an awesome player, and he's awesome. But the idea
that that they're like suffering some sort of fate, like
(15:20):
somebody's got a juju doll. Like, No, they blocked the punt.
That's great, play ball was rolling. Just let it go,
let it come to a stop. You know, if you're
gonna touch it, you better get it, and if you don't,
there's hell to pay. And that's what happened. But let's
not act like you know, somebody there's something that went
bumping the night. No, you blocked the punt. Things rolling,
(15:43):
it's turning end over end. It's an oblong object. It's
hard to catch, especially for a guy that doesn't normally
catch the ball to let it go. No one did
this to you. You did this to yourself. And that's
where Michael Parsons is off. And that's where he shows
his immaturity, you know. And that's what's wrong. That's part
and Barcel, that's what's wrong with the Dallas Cowboys. They
(16:05):
have lots of issues this year, but when their best
player thinks they're cursed, when really all they had to
do is let the ball bounce, let it go. And
as you said, Dan, you nailed it perfectly right. It's
not like they haven't been in the situation before or similar.
I have zero sympathy none.
Speaker 7 (16:24):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Isn't that
interesting though? That like that that Aj Debanca He never
when he was at he like you never just said
like why are you going there? Because they pay me
more money than anybody else, Like, I mean, it's a
pretty strong and easy argument to have.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
It's also why you read the Christmas card and don't
just look at the money that out of the card, right,
gott to look like, thank you so much for this card. Yeah,
thank you so much. The birthday card, same thing. Read
the verse. Just doesn't look at the money. You know
it's there. That's what it's all about.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Yeah, it's that is actually interesting. So now do you
do when you give out presents to people? Do you
do gift cards or do you actually give presidence to
everybody that you give presence to?
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Well? I like to give presents, but sometimes I think
that the person would rather just have the gift card
because then they can choose what they want. I'd rather
give cash than they could do whatever. You know, Hey,
here you go, But sometimes cash is tacky.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
I'd like to speak for Dan on this one of
anyone who works in this building, he's the most considerate
gift giver. He wants to put thought into gifts. I've
never heard of him given a gift card, but I'll
believe him.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Yeah, no, I mean I also think what he's laying
out there is what he really likes. Because, in addition
to being a little bit of a picky eater, like anybody else,
we're a picky We could be picky as as as
gift as gift receivers, I do think one Dan is
an especially considered gift giver, and two, I think it's
(18:14):
especially considered to buy somebody a gift, no matter how small.
Just hey, I was thinking, especially if you know something
about that person that like you connect with, you connect
with like John Middlecoff, for example, Right, I know John,
I know how he lives, where he lives. I know
(18:34):
his passion for golf because he also has a golf
pod podcast. You know, So even if I got him
a sleeve of of of of titleists, you know, I
think that would be thoughtful, more so than just a
gift card to a golf shop. But I don't know.
There's a John Middlecoff joins Just three Ounce the podcast,
(18:56):
and he joins us on the Dug Gotlieb Show here
on Fox Sports Radio. And I'm too harsh to say
that the Cowboys trying to pick up a punt that
was blocked, rolling down the field and fumbling it, but
just trying to get picked that one up and run
it back is the perfect example of why the Cowboys
are where they are. Just like Jamar Chase, instead of
(19:18):
going in, instead of taking a knee at the one
yard line going to the end zone. Also another case
of why the Bengals are where they are.
Speaker 8 (19:26):
Jamar, you know, you just you start running and you
know you're trying to put up huge staffs for your contract.
I don't blame that much.
Speaker 9 (19:32):
You're just kind of in the.
Speaker 8 (19:33):
Heat of the moment, go on full speed. The Cowboy thing.
I'm as critical on coaches in big situations as anyone.
You know, the Cowboys are a mass unit, kind of.
Speaker 9 (19:44):
Like the forty nine ers.
Speaker 8 (19:45):
They bring this kit up off practice squad. I would
say one of the first things you learned, like football
one oh one. Once you play like college football is,
and most guys start, you know, unless you're Jamar Chase,
you're gonna play special teams. And clearly this guy's probably
been playing special teams in college.
Speaker 9 (20:01):
Definitely in the NFL.
Speaker 8 (20:02):
Has been a part of every special teams meeting. You know,
when the balls hit pas last scrimmage, you can get
away from it. That's like football. That's the equivalent of
you know, like when you go to colleges an engineer
that you've already learned basic mass. So that's one hundred
on the player for doing I mean, you see the
reaction of the dude right behind the guy, like everyone
(20:24):
knows that rule and it's something that gets hammered home
in these special teams meetings, and even if you're a
practice squad guy, you're still going.
Speaker 9 (20:32):
To these meetings.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
So I actually thought the Cowboys are pretty impressive. I mean,
they're losing offensive lineman, they're playing a quarterback who every
other series you think, like, how's this guy in the
NFL that overshown kid that towards ACL last year was
coming on.
Speaker 9 (20:46):
You're like, God, this guy's really good players.
Speaker 8 (20:48):
And he shatters his leg or knee and they still
they blocked that plunt. They all of a sudden, you think,
I can't believe the.
Speaker 9 (20:55):
Cowboys are gonna win this game.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (20:57):
And then and then that moment happened, and it's just
one of those you could argue, of all the dumb
things that happened so far in this NFL season.
Speaker 9 (21:05):
On an individual.
Speaker 8 (21:05):
Player, that's probably near the top.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Okay, I do want to play for you. And again
this comes from place I think Jamar Chase is not
the best wide receiver in the league. He didn't want
the best wide receivers in the history league. I'm not
sure that anybody's ever done it better. Like I mean that,
but this was what he said after the game in
regards to going down to the one. Instead, he went
all the way into the inZone.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
I was thinking about it sliding, but I want to score.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
I was thinking about slide and I wanted to score.
I'm not gonna lie. Yeah, I was thinking. No, you're like,
oh he did a battle. No, no, no, he was
thinking about it and then he went in the inZone,
which is the wrong play, right.
Speaker 8 (21:47):
I would say if I was like his agent or
his buddy or even Joe Burrow, it's Anthony Richmonds was
way worse. But remember why everyone got so mad at
Anthony Richson that like bro just why if I was Jamar,
I would have been like, you know, we coached, we
talked about in the huddle when you know, I just
was spreading.
Speaker 9 (22:04):
I just I forgot, you know, I was just in
the heat of the play. It just it escaped my mind.
Speaker 8 (22:10):
I think you could argue it's worse saying that it
crossed my mind.
Speaker 9 (22:14):
I was like, screw it.
Speaker 8 (22:15):
I almost I'm gonna get my second touchdown, my three
hundred yards this game and shatter all records, which you know,
I think all little kids kind of understand. But at
the highest level, we're trying to win a game.
Speaker 9 (22:26):
I think it would have been way worse.
Speaker 8 (22:28):
I mean, at the end of the day, you're talking
about what were they to four and eight teams to
you know, maybe the Cowboys with five and seven. Yeah,
if you told me that they were it was slipped
and they were nine and four. You're like competing to
win the division. I think we'd be a little more critical.
But I mean, let's face it, even with that win,
the Bengal season has felt over.
Speaker 9 (22:47):
For a couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Yeah, but again, any time about right to play wrong, play
right correct?
Speaker 9 (22:54):
Yeah, I mean you're you're the coach.
Speaker 8 (22:55):
You can get on the guy, but you know these
I think he would go, I don't want to listen. Yeah,
I made a mistake, but we all know that we
have one of the best quarterbacks in the league. You know,
I'm one b on this team, So what's anyone going to.
Speaker 9 (23:10):
Say to me. You could argue that's the problem with
just the culture of the team.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Then yep, yep, it's the Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Uh,
that's uh, that's John Middlecoff, Let's let's work our way backwards.
Did anyone on Earth not think the Chiefs are going
to find a way to win that game? Like I
was just like, it doesn't matter who coaches the Chargers.
I feel like they're going to lose that game. Despite
(23:35):
taking it lately.
Speaker 9 (23:37):
I do not want the Chargers pulled ahead.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
I was like, this is going to be like the
defining Harbaugh year one moment and his team it just
felt like Michigan. It was ugly, they were just it
was such a physical game. I get harbaught so much great.
You know, part of the reason the Chiefs have won
back to back championships are going to end up the
number one seed even though everyone in a weird way
like thinks they suck is they're just so tough physically
(24:01):
and mentally. And for a large part of that game,
the Chargers matched them with not as many good players.
And I know they lost, but man, that was I
thought that was a really impressive performance. At the end
of the day, you lost partly too, because I mean
Mahomes made a spectacular play on third and seven, Like
the difference like that sucks to lose when you were
(24:23):
in position you know, potentially to get one of the
biggest upsets of the year, not necessarily points spread wise,
but just what it would have meant for the Chargers
to win that game on the road, to go from
what they had last year with Brandon Staley, and not
even just the record, but just the way we talked
about the team and the way the players acted, you know,
in relation to him, to what that vibe is. Now,
don't they kind of feel like the Chief's light already?
(24:45):
I mean we're December tenth and hard buzz already got
this team like this works, wait till they got better players.
I was blown away by the Chargers to go on
the road and that cold environment where the Chiefs are
just physical, and to go toe to toe with them
and listen, I don't even need.
Speaker 9 (25:00):
To look at a stats.
Speaker 8 (25:01):
I think Herbert's playing as well as you ever played.
I mean, especially when you factor and who's throwing too.
So I'd be pretty bullish if I was on the Chargers,
I'd be like, you guys better not let us have
a good offseason because we could be like super Bowl
in the Super Bowl mix next year.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
What's your reaction to what the Bills did first and
goal just over a minute ago, full vote of timeouts.
Have to get two scores instead they run a quarterback sneak.
Don't get it, have to call a timeout, you know.
Speaker 8 (25:34):
I think sometimes you just ride with what got you
the dance, and in that situation it bit them, right.
I mean it's just I have a hard time. You know,
Colin Josh's number, and you get bit Obviously, Brady goes nut.
You could just throw it even if it's being complete
obviously doesn't kill you.
Speaker 9 (25:54):
I get big picture.
Speaker 8 (25:56):
I mean, they hadn't stopped the Rams all day, really
changed anything. I mean, the game was To me, the
game wasn't and coaches sometimes say this, and you know
you probably do too. You know, the game wasn't lost
on that play.
Speaker 9 (26:08):
The game was really lost in.
Speaker 8 (26:09):
The first half. It's like last week in the Packers,
Like they didn't lose the game down the stretch on
that fourth down call. They lost the game in the
first half when they scored seven points against the defenses,
rolling out Jamal Adams. And to me, the bill starting
so slow in a game where the quarterback plays one
of the best games of his career, that once got
a sting.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
No I listen, I get it, okay, and I get it.
And when we talked about this yesterday, I admitted, like, look,
I've I don't know if you know this, but in
college basketball, the clock runs even after a made shot
in the first half. So if you're behind, you're trying
to shorten the game. And what you can do is
(26:49):
you can let the ball bounce and then take the
ball in and you know, roll it in, or let
it bounce and not touch it. So you can go
from like you can bleed it from fifty seconds almost
all the way to the to like thirty something. And
so we had actually talked about it the day before
and talked to our players about it. And you know,
(27:09):
they score, and we have three guys that go and
simultaneously go and tie their shoes, which was a it's
a great move, right, They go tie their shoes and
then he goes over to get the ball and he
doesn't touch it until last second. But our guy went
over there, picked it up and threw it in through
it right to his teammate, like what are you doing.
The point is that the Buffalo Bills this is the year.
(27:31):
This is the year, and to not manage the clock
at the end of a game, especially when like, look
they had the Bills dead to right, dead right's beaten
three years ago with the thirteen second thing, that one
really hurt. That one struck me as like, what are
we doing Bills.
Speaker 8 (27:48):
I think one problem too is I would say the
more egregious one, you know, given that it felt like
they were going to win the game, was the Texans game.
And I do think it's fair to question and Andy
had this over his head for a long time, like
Sean's has this like can't really manage the game mantra.
Speaker 9 (28:05):
That hangs over him.
Speaker 8 (28:07):
And I think the problem is is everyone's looking. It's like, well,
you got like prime Lway or Prime Farb right now,
and the AFC couldn't be more wide open. Right, You've
proved you can beat and.
Speaker 9 (28:18):
Go toe to toe with the Chiefs.
Speaker 8 (28:19):
Like of all the teams, I think most people like,
we've seen the Ravens until Lamar does and no one's
gonna pick them. We'll see the Steelers who play the
Chiefs in a couple of weeks how that goes. But like,
the one guy who plays the best against the Chiefs
pretty consistently is Josh, and it's like even the coach
can't get in the way in that spot, you know,
and that's just until they kind of shed that.
Speaker 9 (28:40):
And this year, I mean it's crazy. The AFC obviously
has a bunch of.
Speaker 8 (28:44):
Famous quarterbacks and famous franchises. It definitely is wide open,
as Ben right, I mean, this is feels like the
year that the Chiefs probably don't do it. But who's
gonna are you gonna feel confident?
Speaker 9 (28:56):
Ben against them?
Speaker 8 (28:57):
An arrow ahead in the middle of January and a free,
cool game where it's gonna be kieths are gonna be like, well,
this game is probably gonna be in the teens. Anyway,
You're not gonna score thirty points and negative one degree weather.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Last one, Sam Donald, I get that, you have JJ McCarthy.
I get it, I get it, But are you really
gonna let him walk out, Sam Donald? Walk out the door?
And if you're not, what's the absolute limit you would pay?
Speaker 8 (29:28):
I would be offering him right now like the Cousins Deeal.
You know, four years buck eighty ninety million dollars guaranteed,
and you know, see if he would take that. The
whole point of the sport is to get a good quarterback. Right,
they had Cousins, then he tore the achilles and they're
like h and that was the right move. And then
(29:49):
they signed Donald to a bridge quarterback.
Speaker 9 (29:51):
Great move. Then they draft a quarterback in the.
Speaker 8 (29:53):
First round, they don't have to like overspend or.
Speaker 9 (29:55):
Trade crazy up. Good move.
Speaker 8 (29:58):
And then just like let the cream rise out of
the two. What are the chances that JJ McCarthy's ever
going to be this good? Because if you just watch football,
how often do quarterbacks throw thirty five thirty six touchdowns
in the lead a team that's thirteen wins? Pretty rare,
Like you kind of know it when you see it.
I mean last week, some of those plays the guy
made scrambling around, It's like, this is why you got
(30:19):
rid of Cousins, because you wanted this out of Jj,
and then you found it in stands. And sometimes you
like strike oil with a guy late in his career,
like what they did with Rich Dannon with the Raiders
twenty plus years ago.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Listen, what the what the what the Vikings did with
Randall Cunningham late in.
Speaker 8 (30:34):
His career, like I and is is he hit the
open market? Someone given him two hundred million dollars off
one good season? Probably not, so can you get him,
you know, for cheaper than tuam. He's really talented, he's
a good athlete, got a huge arm, and now he's
like a winning player.
Speaker 9 (30:51):
I would keep him.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
I would as well. Mittle coffee're the best ye sleeve
of pro v ones. Maybe on their way. That seems
like a good, thoughtful gift in the meantime. Thanks for
being our guest on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 9 (31:03):
See you, buddy.
Speaker 7 (31:05):

Speaker 7 (31:38):
This is game time on the Leap Show.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Okay there, Dan Byer, what's the game.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Today, Doug. The game of this Tuesday is Rank them
all right, as we do every week of the NFL season,
we start off with Doug Gottlieb ranking the top three
teams in the NFL. Interesting week, Yes, yeah, the Lions
escape against the Packers, Chiefs escaped against the Chargers, the
Eagles escaped against the Panthers, and the Bills lost to
(32:12):
the Rams, all teams that have been in your top
three from time to time.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
I'm still gonna go Lions one, Chiefs two. I'll put
the Eagles three, have the Bills.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
All right, Doug, rank your top three most valuable player
candidates in the NFL at this point.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Hard call. Josh Allen is one.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yep right now, the overwhelming favorite.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Yeah, I'll go Sakwan Barclays two. Okay, and you know
I think for three. I'll go with your golf all right.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Bet online is almost in line with you, Doug. Josh
Allen the favorite as of today minus four point fifty
to win. Then Seguon Barkley is six to one, Lamar
Jackson eight to one, Jared Goff fourteen to one, and
then you have Patrick Mahomes at thirty six to one,
Sam Donold sixty to one. Everybody else is a bit
(33:24):
of a long shot. Jalen Hurts, Jordan Love, Justin Herbert,
and Jaye Daniels off the board. All right, Doug, You
rank your top three gripes with the college football playoff
bracket that was released on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
My top three gripes. Number one would be why okay?
So number three, Number three is Boise State being a
top four seed, okay. Number two is uh. Number two
(34:07):
is the having a second ACC team, and number one
is the undervaluing the SEC.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
All right, Doug, you made a post taking Time magazine.
By the way, I didn't realize Time had an athlete
of the year. I knew Sports Illustrated does their sports
person of the Year and expect that to be Kaitlyn Clark.
What Time named Kaitlyn Clark their athlete of the year, Doug,
rank your top three candidates for athlete of the year.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Kaitlyn Clark, Kaitlyn Clark, Kaitlyn Clark. All right, do you
think Kaitlyn Clark has a chance as well for Kaitlin
Clark to be Kaitlin Clark?
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Jason Stewart. Who's your top two for athlete of the year?
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Top two? Yes, top two, So it's Kaitlin Clark and
then a close second and it better be written this
way was Angel Rees and then a distant through.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Oh yeah, I mean Kylin clarkby one. I got, you know,
first ever fifty to fifty guys, I like that and
they win the World Series. It could be two.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
I'll tell you what I will say. I think Angel
Reese has SoundBite of the Year because it's my favorite SoundBite.
When she was saying, because you know, at the time,
there are a lot of people who were against Caitlin
Clark in the WNBA and Angel Race next to her
Chicago Sky teammate, was talking about how one person didn't
(35:34):
just build this game, even though everybody is talking about
just one person, like you have to remember there were
two of them. Like it was. It was so selfish
and so tone deaf, and it was it was. It
was the best. It really made me laugh. All right, Doug,
I've heard about it. You've talked a little bit about
(35:56):
it as well. And let's let's dive in. A bitter
cold is hitting America's dairy land in my hometown high
of six on Thursday. Doug, what are the three things
you are doing to prepare for the bitter cold coming
up later this week?
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Uh, it's funny you ask. Well, I've taken to a
morning cup of bone broth. Okay, I drink bone broth.
Now I go to a place that makes it. It's
called actually called buttered shroom. It's got like all kinds
of garlic paste in there. Whatever. It's actually delicious. I
mean we'll get in this efternoon, so change the diet
(36:35):
a little bit. I've, you know, working on a blubber
layer and the number one thing I'm doing is I'm
flying out at six am morning. They're playing in Santa Barbara.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Get that you get to avoid it?
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Oh well no, because Wednesday night we play, and that's
when the cold's gonna hit. So it'll be a cold
night Wednesday night. If you're listening to this area, head
to the rest Center at Milwaukee the I forty three
rivalry take on Milwaukee. Yes, Anthony Roy will be back.
He has been on time for everything, and so it'll
be cold. And I will park as close to uh
(37:15):
the entrance as I am allowed, So good.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
No underground parking. Is it at the rest or at
the crest?
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Okay, okay, undergar but I mean we have like the
ip Park rust so it's ten steps.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
That's game time.
Speaker 7 (37:36):
This is game time on the Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
It is interesting you point that out, Dan, because like, look,
the cold cold doesn't hit till later than it used to.
But It's Cold. Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports
Radio
