Speaker 2 (00:18):
Just when you think Andy Reid in a Santa suits
is gonna steal the day in dums Lebron James Monty Belanos,
I mean.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Andy Reid in a Santa suit wins it? I think
every time.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Could you imagine Bill Belichick doing that after the Patriots
clinched home field advantage.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
So prior to him leaving the Patriots and having this
young girlfriend. No, now, yes, we're gonna see that now
as a college football coach.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We're onto the North Pole.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
That was a dumb joke, but' all right, it's a
day after Christmas. That's all good.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
I got a whole Santa sack of those bad jokes.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
You look at that.

Speaker 5 (00:58):

Speaker 2 (01:10):
I am absolutely jealous of those of you that had
a Christmas holiday that was through the roof, that passed expectations, because,
like many, I was battling a bit of a bug
yesterday and was kind of zapped by it. Manci, you
were here at Fox Sports Radio, so I would just
have to say, as much as you love your job,

(01:31):
the expectations of a holiday probably weren't reached because you
had work in employment involved with it. But if you're
a fan of the Chiefs, if you're a fan of
the Ravens magnificent, if you're a fan of NBA basketball
and Lebron James, maybe even better because it was the
line that captured the entire Sports Day yesterday when Lebron James,

(01:56):
after the win over the Golden State Warriors, had this
to say that Lisa Psalters on ABC, I love NFL.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
I love NFL.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Christmas our day. Christmas is our day. Now you can
say that when one game ended thirty one to two,
that tends to happen in the other one twenty nine
to ten. But Lebron James taking a stand Manci that,
gosh darn it, Christmas Day belongs to the association.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Listen. I don't agree with Lebron a lot, but I
will say that I agree with him on Christmas. There
is so much going on that it is a lot
easier for you to just put on the NBA all
day in the background and not worry about it. I
was here work, as you mentioned, and Netflix gave me
such a hard time with the streaming all day annoying. Yes,

(02:48):
I got to see Beyonce. That was a nice little plus.
But football, you and I, you can't just have it
on in the background and pretend to watch certain plays
here and there. You actually want to sit in watch it.
So that's why I agree with him. I don't think
the NFL needs to play on Christmas Day. I really don't.
I think just the NBA is enough. If you're at

(03:11):
a gathering, you have it on in the background, it's
a close game between the Lakers and the Warriors, one
minute left, everyone's gonna tune in. You put on a
football game, people are gonna want to sit and watch it,
which is what we have on Thanksgiving. It is expected
on Thanksgiving, and as a woman, I don't cook. I
don't clean on doing anything. But like women know, hey,
we're gonna have all these men come over. We're gonna
cook and they're gonna say, and they're gonna watch, and

(03:32):
I'm gonna be with the men. I just I don't
you know. So it's different. It is different. I agree
with Lebron Harrison.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Butker has just turned off his radio. He said that
he did not like that at all, was not a
fan at all. Manty, what are you talking about.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Isn't that what he wants? Isn't that what he thinks? Right?
Women should just stay in the kitchen.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, but you aren't.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Oh I'm not Yeah, no, I'm sorry, Harrison, Butker, Yeah,
I don't know. I don't cook, I don't clean.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
I'm very useless when.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
It comes to that.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
I have an appreciation for the holidays, it's not the
appreciation of what sports fits better. I think what you
said is very true. It's much much easier to follow
an NBA game when there is so much going on
at Christmas. I feel like Thanksgiving is just set up
for the meal and then the aftermath or you know,

(04:21):
the pre meal meal aftermath. So to your point, football
is a lot fits into that window. Plus there's so
much tradition with it. Not that there isn't tradition with
the NBA, but I just feel that there is more
with the Lions and Cowboys and what the NFL has
provided in those windows. The NBA, I have said one
hundred times here growing up was never on the radar.

(04:45):
Back in the Midwest when I remember Christmas, the relatives
did not have it on TV. They did not have
those games on in the living room when people were
chatting in the dining room or the kitchen and getting
the meal ready. None of that happened. It was only
I moved out to southern California where the Lakers played
in it where it became a bigger deal. And this

(05:05):
is where I think it's interesting because Lebron always tries
to pick his spots. And again, what better spot when
the NBA has had great games When Victor wibin Yama
had a forty pointer at the garden.

Speaker 7 (05:19):
Forty two eight rebounds, four blocks, Yes, what better time
when Austin Reeves just just staved off a Steph Curry
flurry in San Francisco and the Lebron and the Lakers
get their victory.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
What better way when Anthony Edwards and Crewe go to
Dallas even without Luka Doncic in uniform, still a good game.
What better day to then stake your claim when you
have a game that's thirty one to two and one
that's twenty nine to ten in what we thought were
four of the better teams in the National Football League.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
That Dallas game against Minnesota. They lost Luka Doncic early
on to a calf injury and at one point Minnesota
was up by like I don't know thirty. All of
a sudden, Kyrie's like, no, I want to play. I
decided I want to play. They brought it with him three.
It was all day, all day, the NBA was providing
these exciting moments this game.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, and I don't think that Lebron was necessarily wrong
with it, but you want to know what stan wrong
with his comments for that day. But you want to
know why why I think that yesterday was so great
for the NBA because the players actually cared. Yeah, And
we talk about this conversation throughout the first two months
of the season of why is the NBA such a turnoff?

(06:35):
Is it all the threes? Is it the way that
the game is played. You had five games that were
put in marquee windows, and in some shape or form,
we're competitive at the end in terms of what the
Nixons Spurs did to have Steph in the comeback, and
you mentioned the comeback of Kyrie Irving. You had these

(06:55):
games in marquee spots. Sixers go to Boston and knock
off the Celtics. Is Joel and Beads running into security
people on three point shots. He had all of that,
But there was there was a sense of urgency. There
was a sense of spotlight with the NBA, and I
actually think the NBA told on itself yesterday. And so

(07:19):
while Lebron was right in that moment that yesterday December
twenty fifth, twenty twenty four, the NBA had it over
the NFL, it does not on the big picture, and
in fact told on the NBA that what have you
been doing for the first two months? The only team
that I think cared about the NBA Cup was the
team that actually won the NBA Cup in the Milwaukee Bucks.

(07:41):
And this is the problem with it, and this is
why Lebron's thinking he's getting one over and taking it
to the NBA. And this is my league this is
my showtime and the whole deal. No, what you did
is you just told us that when you put all
these teams in this slate, in this game where the
NBA viewing starts for a lot of people on Christmas Day,
that now you're gonna try. And I think it just
completely negated what we saw in the last two months

(08:02):
and solidified what we thought is wrong with the NBA
is Yeah, maybe it's not there every single night, But
do you think it's a coincidence that we had ten
teams going tooth and nail, going back and forth, or
you know, having these competitive games at the end, Like,
it's not a coincidence, it's they were on Christmas Day,
they were on national TV, and they felt it was

(08:24):
a spotlight. And that's why you got the good basketball, Lebron,
not because the NBA is better than the NFL.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
You're not wrong, Dan. The bigger picture here is that
you did tell on yourself. I didn't even think of that.
How when you actually try you can't put on a
good product. But he is missing the big point and
I agree with just like what we said on Christmas Day,
I would prefer to just have NBA and not worry
about the NFL. But after the game, there's a video
that you can see on social media where he's asked

(08:49):
by a reporter what is still great in the NBA
and he says, Bron and stuff. Bron, that is the problem.
Why didn't you mention Victor Wan Banyama? Why did you
not mention Anthony Edwards. You should be passing your torch
and wanting to leave the NBA in a better place
than when you got there, and you're not. It's this

(09:10):
whole idea that you only care about yourself. You keep
adding to it. Your answer was Bron and Steph, and
he smiled.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
I am I am trying to figure out what that
angle is because there seems to be a Lebron hitching
his wag into Steph a little bit.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Of course, yes he's been. He's literally telling us I
want to play with Steph, send me to Golden State.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
And is that it is? That? Is that?

Speaker 3 (09:33):
What?

Speaker 6 (09:34):
I do not see.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Steph leaving the Warriors, right, So that's why I say
he goes to Golden State.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Now that the Bronny James pick has been done and
he's been a lake, now he can look for somewhere
else to go and play. I think that very well
could be. I was looking at it as a legacy
sort of thing, like does it help Lebron's legacy? Absolutely
not to attack himself to a good guy like Steph Curry.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
No, it doesn't help him. And it also doesn't help
Steph's legacy. Like let's say they team up with Draymond
and they win again. I don't. It's like this, none
of you gets to me that much credit for it.
You all teamed up, it's not I think Lebron wants
another ring for himself, But if he gets another one,
it's gonna be way watered down. You didn't win it,
you went and grabbed it with other stars. But I

(10:26):
do think he wants another one for his argument. How
many does he have?

Speaker 8 (10:30):
Five?

Speaker 2 (10:31):
He's cut four four five four?

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Yeah, and Steph has five.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Steph's got four, So they're talking.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Okay, right?

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Am I right? Because it's two with the Heat and
one with the Calves and one with the Lakers.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
So that's that's what it is.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
That's what it is.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
He wants to get one more.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I see, I get that, And this is this is
why I'm fumbling and stumbling over it. Because I think,
let Lebron overthinks stuff so much, and I don't know,
like you know, what popped into my head. It was
that you have this magic bird duo, like.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Combo, like a magic bird, you mean magic and Larry Bird.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
It was like there was a magic bird flies in
I'm sorry, got it, got.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
It, Okay, It's pretty amazing. You have this magic Johnson
Larry Bird partnering through the eighties and nineties where they
are attached at the hip and through you know, through
college to the NBA and the whole deal. Michael Jordan
never had that. There wasn't a Jordan and Blank because
Jordan was better than everyone. And I actually think that

(11:40):
Lebron has that right now. But my thinking was, is
Lebron like trying to attach himself to Curry to kind
of have this sort of I don't know, friendly rivalry.
It was just it was just really weird, Like your
point makes sense that hey, let's team up and play,
because we even saw Lebron in the pregame of the

(12:00):
Olden State game run out and block or try to
block Steph shot y. Yeah, but this.

Speaker 9 (12:06):
Isn't this isn't this is new, This is hasn't been
like this.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
It hasn't, but Lebron has hinted at this for the
last couple of years, don't you remember, They're like, who
would you want to play with? And he said Steph Curry.
He has said this before.

Speaker 10 (12:21):
Not.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
I mean, he's been around for so long, and it's
just like you know, breaking up.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Yeah, your angle may be quite you know, quite on
point and maybe obvious. And I just was looking at
it from another way of of how is he trying
to boost himself up, just like he took the advantage
to try to boost the NBA up against the NFL.
By the way, not to not to to change from Lebron,
but the NFL I think has learned a good lesson

(12:49):
with the games that they played, is no matter how
good the teams are. We talked about this the other day.
Christmas will be on a Thursday next year, so you're
not gonna have to worry about the jam schedule that
you just put those four teams in. But I would
think that this jam schedule that the Steelers, Ravens, Houston
and the and the Chiefs that the deal with was
not great. And it really showed me the effect on

(13:10):
the teams that aren't good enough. And so yeah, while
it didn't affect the Chiefs and Ravens and they got
wins and they were able to roll in both of
those games, you sit there and you look at it
and you say, all right, to what expense you really
had a bad product on the field. In week seventeen,
Kansas City Chiefs has now wrapped up home field advantage,
which has taking some of the drama out of the
next two weeks. I do think the NFL would second

(13:32):
guess on how they put those teams on a short week,
because just because of the product that we got yesterday.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
I don't know what the answer is to that though,
because football is so.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Ball hogging not ball, it's selfish.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
All of those things themselves say is football dominating unexpected?
What we think in week one is not the situation
in week ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen. So like
when they put the schedule together, they're predicting that this
is going to be a good matchup, and that's really

(14:06):
hard to do for the NFL.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
I think that, yeah, it is. It is, You're right
about that, But I think that they struck something and
they were pretty safe to know that Kansas City and
Houston would be pretty good, and that you should have
a whenever the Steelers in Ravens play and then you
mix those teams up in a certain way. But it's
just the effect that it had on you know. The
Steelers Chiefs game was I guess it was close on
the scoreboard for three quarters.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
It wasn't.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
No, it didn't seem like that. And when Houston puts
up a deuce too, they dropped the deuce. Let's be honest.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
On Christmas Day they really did well.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
There is our Christmas Day extravaganza here on Fox Sports Radio.
She is Manti Bolanhos hit her up at Monte Bolonios.
You could find me at Dan Byer on Fox on X.
Also I am on Blue Sky if you will at
Dan Bayer getting more and more engaged with Blue Sky,
not leaving X doing the same amount actually, but just
a new audience, Manzi, there's nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 6 (14:59):
Be sure to cat which the live edition of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. This is Monty
Belano singing the cover of Santa Baby.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
I wish I can't sing. I mean like I can
keep a tune, but I can't sing.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
Do you guys know who was actually singing this though?

Speaker 11 (15:26):
No?

Speaker 4 (15:27):
Is it Kim Kardashian, have mercy.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
I heard about this, but I didn't look into it.
Like I saw an article that some people were mad
at her about it.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Yeah, because I had like religious stuff in there.

Speaker 11 (15:44):
Video.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yeah, the video was super controversial.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Gosh, I was you nobody was watching it at all?

Speaker 4 (15:49):
Yeah, Actually it went pretty viral.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
That's sarcast I'm very we get a lot of it
here with Dan Bayer here on Fox Sports Radio. Jason
Stewart's hanging out as his isyclin Cron Steelers look good
yesterday that Mary mack is also star Castle. They lost
to the Kansas City Chiefs. All I'm going to say
is this, I blame myself, Okay, I expected more Like

(16:11):
I thought Pittsburgh was maybe set up to be a
team that does win the AFC. North goes to Buffalo,
upsets the Bills, and because of how the bracket falls,
they end up in the AFC Championship Game. A couple
of weeks ago, if you would have talked to me,
I would have said, yeah, I could see that, and
then now it looks like that they're going to be Yeah, well,

(16:33):
right now they're not playing as the team that I
thought they were going to be. But there's not even
a guarantee that this squad wins the division. And now
it's just a week to go, in a game behind
the Baltimore Ravens, it could be a one and done
for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I blame myself, but the Pittsburgh
Steelers disappointing.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I blame myself too. I'm with you. I didn't think
the Steelers were going to win the Super Bowl. That's
not what I thought. I just thought the Steelers look
like a really good complet team with a really good coach,
and that they were going to give teams a hard time.
That anyone facing the Steelers would not approach them thinking
it was going to be an easy win.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
After yesterday, I'm like, oh, what what happened here? And
it's like, unfortunately, you know, it's not what you do
in December matters way more than what you do in
November October. Yeah, like it matters. I'm with you, I
really thought the Steelers were not pretenders, were more contenders again,

(17:30):
not that they were going to win the Super Bowl.
I just thought they would put up a fight against
any team that they were gonna fight.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I'm a sucker for any team that shows some relevance
of defense. Yeah right, and in Buffalo like hasn't for
the last couple of weeks. So it really asked me.
Even for his greatest their offense in Josh Allen has
been It's its made me wonder and it's actually why
the Chiefs that think are the real legitimate threat is
because of their defense, and they yesterday they don't have
Chris Jones and they still do what they do. Let's

(17:57):
bring in Adam Kapp on our Fox Sports Radio NFL inside,
Am I just foolish? Adam? First of all, Happy Holidays, Mary, Christmas,
Happy Hanukah? And am I foolish? Was I foolish to
think that Pittsburgh could have put something together to make
a run in these playoffs?

Speaker 7 (18:10):
No?

Speaker 8 (18:10):
I was agreeing with you that the boy they were
really playing well. In fact, the first Baltimore game, I
alway joke with someone with the Steelers that they were
so physical against Lamar Jackson and Pittsburgh that actually felt
it watching the game. I mean, they were dominant and
it looked like they were on a role there. But
I think the George Pickens' injury really crippled their passing game.

(18:31):
I know he came back yesterday on a short week,
but Russell Wilson didn't play well. The interception of the
red zone really cost him. That was to me, that's
what set the tone. And the Chiefs never trailed in
that game. They dominated. That was a very impressive win
for the Chiefs, maybe their most impressive win. And boy,
their offense was really on target, which had been widely

(18:51):
criticized around the league that it wasn't quite as good
as people thought it should be.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
So with the Steelers, you're merry Christmas, Adam, thanks for
joining us again. What do you think Steelers do though? Now,
with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, we're getting to the
end of the season and after this game, again, these
games matter more than the ones in October and November.
What do you think they're going to do?

Speaker 8 (19:11):
Well, what they'll do is they'll make a decision. No
decision has been made on either of them. Fields would
only come back as back up, there's no chance will
be the starter. They like the package of plays that
they have before he before Fields got hurt. He had
a Gorodny injury earlier this season. Now he's another one
another different is different injury now, But they like when
he would come.

Speaker 11 (19:31):
On a third down.

Speaker 8 (19:31):
In fact, I remember I was there for two days
during training camp and they were so excited about what
Fields could add in a third down package in a
red zone. And then he got hurt. Then Russell Wilson
got hurt with a calf injury, and boy Russell, they
were really happy with what rub was doing. Lately has
not been as good and without George Pickens, folks, that's
the story. When George Picktts doesn't play, it's like they

(19:51):
don't have a chance offensively. He's one player, and that
goes to show you that our front office has got
to do a better job of adding talent like the
ad Mike Williams. They don't play him. That's the thing
that's bad. You know, he's been there for he's been
there since the trade deadline, and they don't really use
them very much.

Speaker 11 (20:07):
When they have. He's done a good job, so that's
been surprising.

Speaker 8 (20:10):
But overall. Yeah, I'm with you, Dan, to throw it
back to you. I'm disappointed in the way the Steelers
have responded, and I can't imagine how they feel, you know,
on a holiday, losing at home on Christmas and the
way that they lost where they never led in that game.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Adam Gablin joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. So
did Lamar Jackson do enough to sway voters for the
MVP in yesterday's performance against the Texans? Dan, Yeah, good,
Josh Allen's got the Jets and Patriots. Dad, that's what
a lot of people are pointing to of not marquee matchups. Really,
while Lamar did this on Christmas Day.

Speaker 8 (20:45):
So Dan, I vote in two polls. One of them
is the one that takes me. It'll take me a
couple hours to do.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Believe or not.

Speaker 8 (20:50):
It's a Pro Football Roaders Association Awards SPELLOT and usually
it takes half an hour forty five minutes. First of all,
we got to do Comeback Player Year. We also have
to do Most Improved Player like the AP only just
come back. We can't call Sam Darnold come back play there.
He's never been there.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
You know.

Speaker 11 (21:07):
It's kind of like with Gina Smith. Genia Smith, he improved.
He's never been a good quarterback, so you look at
this one with two elite quarterbacks.

Speaker 8 (21:15):
I have honestly, I've thought it's it's on the back
of my mind because I know it's Doe in two weeks.
Here's another thing I tried. I was playing this to
Eve from Salam yesterday on FSRRY. I try not to
have recency bias because this is what happens.

Speaker 11 (21:31):
With these awards.

Speaker 8 (21:32):
Oh, guy goes off for two weeks and when it's close, well,
you're gonna give to him. You got to go game
by game. I'll take opinions from folks. I trust to
watch all their you watch their tape. I think it's
too close to call it. I answer your question, Dan,
I can't make a decision right now. I'm right down
the middle now. If you would have asked me in
the middle of the season, wasn't even close. Josh Allen
was very quite frankly, their passing game wasn't great. They

(21:54):
were like scoring thirty points and you're like, well, how
are they doing this? The passing game is kind of average,
and in the last five weeks he's been killing it.
That Ram game was absurd, and the Lions came and
you saw this past week. I mean they came back.
Wasn't great, but they came back. I think it's too
close to call.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
It's something just to jump in with that. What's weird
is that I do think it changed for the acquisition
of Amari Cooper. But it's not like Amari Cooper has
been that guy like they needed, like they realized that
they needed somebody. There was a point and I can't
remember if it was the loss to the Ravens or
when it was, but they realized they needed a guy
and they got him. But it's not like Amari Cooper

(22:33):
has been one hundred and fifty yards eight catches in
the whole deal. But something feels like it changed at
that point as well.

Speaker 8 (22:40):
Dan he had a wrist injury and he missed some
time and he wasn't himself when he came back. What
they were looking talking to people there, is that they
were looking for. Really, what they really wanted wasn't was
an elite deep threat and that guy was not available,
so they took the best available player. Then Mary Cooper
could run. It's more of an intermediate level receiver in
terms of routes and he's certainly helping them, but it's

(23:02):
not quite what they need yet. But Dan, you said
it before I came on here. I'm more worried about
the Bills defense right now. Their offense is a great
shape now the run game with James Cook is I
worry about their past rush and look, I know they
are ready beat the chief but when you get in
the playoffs, it's a different deal. And there's no better
quarterback in NFL history in the playoffs other than Tom

(23:23):
Brady than Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
Right now, Adam, you keep a close eye on the Eagles.
They just lost to the Commanders after losing Jalen Hurts
very early in the game due to a concussion. But
they were dominating. What I was surprised they still lost.

Speaker 11 (23:37):
It's a great game.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
It was a great game. I was surprised just because
they were dominating with Saquan and then obviously you lose
your quarterback.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
That's very hard.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Should the Eagles be worried about losing the division? They're
both going to face the Cowboys. They have two games left,
with the Commanders beating them the last game. What are
you feeling with the Eagles?

Speaker 11 (23:54):
Manti this is an interesting situation.

Speaker 8 (23:55):
So you know, we do a show with Greco self
of NFL Film, So I know Colin Coyle Greg on
a lot and it's called Inside the Tape, and we
just dropped it this morning. And I got to tell you,
and I didn't know this because we don't ask Greg
before we tape these shows.

Speaker 11 (24:10):
We said, what was the issue with the run game
the second half?

Speaker 8 (24:12):
He goes, He goes, Guys, I gotta be honest, I've
never seen this out of the Eagles offensive line. Dan
Quinn's defense handled the Eagles offensive line. They were dominant.
They missed a number of blocks, they got moved off
the ball. They just were bad bonds. If you want
to asked the question, which is a good one, it's
Barkleyhood one hundred and seven yards in the first quarter.
He got shut down after that and that was Now.

(24:33):
Now I will add and this this goes to show
you how Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson really help an
offense in a run game. When you don't have Jalen
Hurts in the lineup, the defense is going to play differently.
They play with a loaded box. The term is they
crashed the run. They were inviting Kenny Pickett to throw.
I thought Kellen Moore could have done a better job

(24:55):
of dialing up some passes. Now, Kenny Pickett, who will
start this week? If her this isn't get clear, which
seems likely. Can you pick it as it might a
rib injury. I'm told so that they're not worried about
pick Up being able to play. But maybe they got
conservative Monty in the second half because he had that
rib injury. But to move this along here, you know,
let's not forget DeVante Smith is a great player. If

(25:15):
he catches that ball where he dropped with rows on,
the game is over.

Speaker 4 (25:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (25:19):
Yeah, So that Look.

Speaker 8 (25:20):
They had won ten in a row, the second longest
winning streak the National Football League. This season, their defense
has been shockingly really elite. They didn't play well last week.
I got to give Jayden Daniel's credit. He was absolutely
phenomenal and the offensive rookie the year ward I would
have to think, I'd have to think is going to
go to him.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
Adam Kaplin joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. She's
Monzi Blanio. So I'm Dan Byer. We are in for
Doug Gottlieb. Get Adam on exit Kaplan NFL read him
on the Pro Football Network and hear him here is
our FSR insider and on the Inside the Birds podcast,
the game of the week of the weekend, if you will, Sunday,
Minnesota home to Green Bay. Are we sure that it's

(26:01):
Detroit and Minnesota? Could Green Baby actually be the best
team in this NFC North It's a I really like
the Packers, and I know they're sitting there in that
three spot in the division right now, But how do
you think things fair in Minneapolis on Sunday?

Speaker 8 (26:15):
You know, it's funny. I picked the Packers that win
the division. I'm probably going to be wrong about that,
but they are really good. The story of their team
is not their offense. It's been their defense. Owner Jeff Hafley,
the new defensive coordinator, the former Boston College head coach
who walked away guys to be a NFL defensive coordinator,
Like when does that happen? But he did it, and
they thought Joe Barry. My understanding is they thought Joe

(26:35):
Barry the former defensive coordinators too passive, Dan Yep and
halfway runs. By the way, they are running a forty
three front for the first time in two decades and
the players are taken to it. You know, they've been
without jay r Alexander the best corner for a number
of games. But I think where they've kind of benefited.
Let's call it like it is both Minnesota and Green Bay.
As good as both teams have done this season, they

(26:56):
both have had really good schedules where the line schedule
has been way harder, but yet the line continue to
find a way to win. It is incredible though, I'll
tell you what that's a team with Green Bay though, Dan,
to send it back to you here, you don't want
to face them in the playoffs where they're so talented offensively,
maybe the NFL's deepest receiver corps, Josh Jacobs by having

(27:16):
a really good year. Offensive line is probably a little
bit better than what we all thought. Jordan low is
a pretty good quarterback, like he's now one of the
top five top seven quarterbacks in the NFL. They're really
dangerous when he gets to the playoffs, and they've shown
they've shown by the way they could win on the road. Now,
they got off to sort of a rocky start where
we're Dan, we were kind of like trying to figure
out who they were but they're on a roll of
l like there's no question about it.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Sure in for a franchise that, especially in the Ted
Thompson era, was very particular. In free agency, they get
two Grand Slams with Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney on
both sides of the ball.

Speaker 11 (27:48):
You know, it's funny, McKinney.

Speaker 8 (27:50):
You know you had this really stupid off the field
is shoe a couple of years ago, which I'm sure
that played into the Giants not resigning them. But I
don't think anyone could have imagined he has seven and
interceptions like that with safety with an interceptions sometimes it's fluky.
But Dan, You're absolutely right, he's been phenomenal. He's a
really good football player. By the way, the Eagles made
an offer to him, they wanted to, they actually try

(28:11):
to sign him, but he chose Green Bay.

Speaker 11 (28:13):
And that is the.

Speaker 8 (28:15):
Game of the week, and I'm so glad, thankfully, thankfully
the NFL. Because Dallas lost, Dallas was eliminated. It didn't
matter whether they won or loss. They were eliminated for
their game, so they were out of it. They were
moved to the legal game at to one o'clock Eastern
and this game is in the four o'clock window, though
quite frankly they should they the rules state that they
can't really flex it to Monday. They can only flex

(28:36):
to the four to twenty five winner, which they.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Did last time for me Adam. They are done for
the season pretty much the forty nine ers, but they
have a big question ahead of them. Brock party, what
would you do with.

Speaker 11 (28:48):
Bronc Well, he's not going to go anywhere.

Speaker 8 (28:51):
I know they're going to be rumors about Kirk Cousins again,
a Kyle Shanahan. Kyle's been very upfront like they wanted
him some when Kyle got in there just couldn't They
couldn't work it out.

Speaker 11 (29:04):
I don't see it.

Speaker 8 (29:06):
I'm willing to change my mind to more information I get,
but he Brock, Kyle's got to be careful here. He's
got a he's got a back, Brock Purty like by
the way, the Falcons. I think one of the reasons
why Kirk Cousins won't drop his no trade clause is
that either're in the middle of a playoff race and
publicly him Mars.

Speaker 11 (29:26):
Didn't really back them.

Speaker 8 (29:27):
He didn't he didn't really have his back, and I
for a veteran like Kirk Cousins think that matters. So
I think Kyle getting back to him. It's got to
be careful with Brock Purdy, now, could you when you
look at his contract.

Speaker 11 (29:38):
I was talking to you from slum about this.

Speaker 8 (29:42):
He obviously can't come back make a one point one
million that cannot happen. And I don't see him doing
a bridge deal. That's just not It's not again a
bad season, just wildly inconsistent. A number of bad interceptions.
But you have to remember George Kittle miss time, I
U tears his a. I don't know what's happened to
Deebo Samuel the season. This is like stunning. I don't

(30:05):
know what's happened down three running backs. Look that there
have been some problems there offensive lines, at injuries, but Mancy,
it's going to be a fascinating situation. Is what the
number is if they if they give him the big deal,
is it going to be fifty five million?

Speaker 11 (30:20):
Fifty if they.

Speaker 8 (30:23):
Made it, if they were in the playoffs, it made
a run, He's getting fifty seven to sixty million. There's
no debate. That's what he's getting. You couldn't justify anything less.
Now you have a little leverage here if you're John Lynch,
the general manager and Prague Marte, who would do the
contract because party, quite frankly, is dropped off this season.

Speaker 11 (30:39):
See.

Speaker 8 (30:40):
I was surprised, guys when the Jaguars gave Trevor Lawrence
fifty five million a year. I'm like, you didn't have
to do anything. He's coming off of a down year.
What you don't need to do it. But they felt,
and by the way he didn't play well before he
got hurt this season, they felt they needed to do it.
They felt they were getting a discount. Well, I don't
know about that, but they did.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Yeah, I don't know about a lot of things in Jacksonville, Adam.
We appreciate the time. We'll talk to you. I'll talk
to you on Sunday. How about That's good? All right?
Got it now, Isaac. On our four screens, we've got news, news, news,
and bull riding on CBS Sports Network. We are going
to have to change it. Manty and I were trying

(31:18):
to decipher who is right now in the bull riding
competition because it's a team event, and we saw Oklahoma
and Texas we're facing off now Unfortunately, there's another game
going on right now that we have now revealed New
York and Carolina. So those are four teams in this

(31:39):
team bull riding event. How many teams are actually in
this league?

Speaker 9 (31:42):
Ten?

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Okay? Ten? Now I want to try to guess at
least throughout the show, and Isaac, maybe in your next
update in fifty minutes from now, you can reveal the answers.
But do you have a guess on.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Who I'm gonna take? Wyoming?

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Okay, Wyoming, Wyoming. I am going with Colorado. That's one
of my teams, Jason Stewart, do you want in on
naming the other six?

Speaker 10 (32:09):
So I'm gonna have one of each if I can.
I want Montana for the American representation, but I think
Calgary's got to have one, right, all right?

Speaker 2 (32:20):
That's interesting. That's we'll have to, uh have to see
how we fare in figuring out who is who in
terms of this team.

Speaker 12 (32:27):
There's a team in Montana. They're nicknamed better be the Joe's.
That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. No, Doug, you
got Manzi Belanyo. So myself Dan Byer, sitting in for
Doug today on this day after Christmas. If you have off, congratulations.
If you're at work, sorry about that. We'll get into
that later on into the show. That's the truth.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Maybe maybe they like their work.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
I like work.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Usually I park on level six when I come into
work today level four. So there are some people that
are at work and then others that are not. Glad
to have you with us. Shortly after the show, our
podcast will be going up. If you missed any of
today's show, be sure to check out the podcast. Just
search Doug Gottlib wherever you get your podcasts, and be
sure to also follow, rate and review the podcast. Again,
just search Doug Gottlieb wherever you get your podcasts. We're

(33:23):
also in the middle of trying to figure out the
squads and the professional bull riding team event. Jason Stewart's
on the board with Montana and Calgary. I guessed Colorado.
Manzi's got Wyoming. We know Texas, Oklahoma, New York and
Carolina have teams.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
I'm just surprised New York isn't so is I.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Yeah, we're gonna get the answer in about forty minutes.
But until then, let's play a game with Isaac.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
This is Game Time Game TI on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
All right, Isaac, what do we got today? Draft?

Speaker 6 (33:57):
Draft?

Speaker 9 (33:57):
Drafts?

Speaker 6 (34:00):
I feel a draft.

Speaker 12 (34:01):
We're gonna be drafting holiday sporting events. Everyone's gonna get
two picks at a snake format. Dam gets the number
one pick, followed by Moncey, Jason, myself, and then back
around last pick.

Speaker 9 (34:15):
Huh okay, all right, here's darn for the first.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
Number one in the second round. So I'm on the
clock right now. Yeah, I'll just take it because I've
always stumped for the Lions to say to stay on Thanksgiving.
Give me the NFL on Thanksgiving number one. I actually
don't think that there is another There's one other, but
I don't think that there's another choice NFL on Thanksgiving.

Speaker 9 (34:38):
Monster. Oh that didn't sound right, Moncey.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
I had an ex boyfriend's mom who called me that. Anyway,
thank you for bringing back memory. I am going to Yeah.
I love the NBA and I love the NBA on Christmas,
and I will take the NBY on Christmas any day.

Speaker 9 (34:53):
That's for you, Lebron Jason.

Speaker 10 (34:55):
When you showed that ex parent your new tattoo, they say,
is that monsters inc No?

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Very good?

Speaker 10 (35:03):
Hey, I want to I want to take a couple
of things in this draft that I never watch, but
but they signify something. So I'm going to say that
Memorial Days NDY five hundred good. Right.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
But it's the start of summer.

Speaker 9 (35:16):
Yes, so I know if.

Speaker 10 (35:17):
The Indy five hundred is a round and I'm not
watching it, I know it's at least it's the start
of summer.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
That's a good one. I like that.

Speaker 12 (35:23):
I'm going to go with the Rose Bowl. And with
my second pick, it's the BA Game. The ball game
is played during the holidays in Kirkwall, Scotland. It's been
played every year since the sixteen hundreds. It's essentially a
game of mob football where residents of the north side
of town known as uppies, battle South end residents known

(35:44):
as Doonies. Each side tries to advance the ball to
the opponent's end of town. There are hundreds of players
on each side and the entire town, streets, alleys, yards,
everywhere is in play. We need to have that America. Jason,
your next, well.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
No offense. I think that's a bob pick right there.
I would not have taken it.

Speaker 9 (36:05):
Well, well, you know what, bah humbud Jason.

Speaker 10 (36:09):
Another thing I don't watch because I think it's disgusting,
but it does represent a July fourth holiday that I
do adore. So the hot dog eating contest.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
One nice, I mean Fourth of July. Baseball, that's an
easy one.

Speaker 9 (36:27):
Good one good.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
I mean if you don't watch baseball, I feel like
you tune in that day to get as much baseball
as you can.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
And it's here's the balance, though. Do you have a
night game because you can have fireworks or do you
do day game because it's the holiday and people are
going to fireworks. But to have it all day long,
I think teams have to figure out what they're going
to do. Uh. The obvious one that I mentioned off
the top is actually taken by Isaac New Year's Day
Rose Bowl bul Games, but losing a little bit of

(36:54):
its luster. Right now, I'm going to go with one
just because I love the sport and it is traditionally
this day found around of the US Open is always
held on Father's Day on the third Sunday in June
will be the final around of the US Open, which
is also Father's Day, and as a father of the

(37:15):
last three years, it's taken on quite a brand new meaning.
So yeah, we're going Father's Day find around of the
US Open.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
I like that one.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
And that's game time.

Speaker 6 (37:27):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
I do want to throw in just because of the
Southwest theme. New Mexico is a possible pick. Oh, from
New Mexico, maybe based in Albuquerque for the for the rodeo.

Speaker 3 (37:43):
Yeah, that's a good one. That's a good one, all right,
I'm into it.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
All right. Those are our pick so far, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Albuquerque,
and Colorado, with Texas, Oklahoma, New York and Carolina the
four confirmed teams that we've known from the professional bull
riding team of and I actually just looked up on
the scoreboard and I've just seen two others. We'll reveal
him later coming up next. Yes, we're gonna take it

(38:08):
back to twenty twenty. That's next on Fox.
