Speaker 2 (00:19):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fick Sports Radio coming to you from
It's a beautiful day in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I think
it's beautiful out there in southern California as well, coast
to coast, and we're in the Midwest, the flyover region.
We're with you for the next couple of hours. Plus
we have our podcast, which drop after the show. This
is the DG Show. Mark Dominic joins us twenty five
(00:41):
after the hour, we have our preview of Nick's Celtics
Game three. All right, Mark Stein's gonna join us. We'll
talk to more NBA playoffs, a lot to get to.
Happy Friday. Happy Friday Friday. The t Wolves beat the Warriors,
(01:03):
and they did a good job for the most part.
There's one run in the third quarter where the Warriors
got it close, but for the most part, they kept
the Warriors at arms distance, and they tied the series
up at one apiece. No Steph Curry not expected to
play in Game three either, and Draymond Green gets a
technical so he's two texts short of receiving an automatic
one game suspension. And then after the game, Draymon Well,
(01:29):
he went full as Raymond.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
It looked like the angry black man. I'm not an
angry black man.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
I'm a very successful, educated black man with a great family,
and I'm great at basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I'm great at what I do.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
To get the a gender.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
To try to keep making me look like an angry
black man is crazy. I'm sick of it. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Okay, So they're trying to make him look like an
angry black man. I mean, here's the guy who's led
the NBA in technical fouls, a guy who punched his
own teammate and negatively impacted the trajectory of that version
of the Golden State Warriors. Like this is who Draymond
Green is. And yeah, I don't know how he is?
(02:11):
He black? Yes? Did he look angry? Sure? Is he
then the angry black man? We all know that that's
a different sort of portrayal, and the idea is, you know,
you're making somebody defensive, and then you're like, why are
you being so defensive? Like, well, because I have to
defend myself, and then you crank it up. But Draymond
(02:34):
turning himself into a victim is, Yeah, it's I mean,
that's that's odd to see if that actually passes anybody's
stiff test. Do any of you guys think that Draymond
is the victim in this in this particular situation.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I don't, no, not at all.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, it's a weird thing, Dan, And I feel like,
are we giving him oxygen that he doesn't need for
this particular part of the comment? Right?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I mean, like this show, are you talking about media?
Are you talking about like of giving that oxygen?
Speaker 2 (03:18):
I just say, in the whole Angry black Man comment
from this show's perspective, are we giving an oxygen when
like that that's just taking us a field from the
actual play, from the suspension, from the antics, from everything else.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
I think that the comment is absurd so just in
by itself that it should be left alone. But I
also think that Draymond, I think there's there's some sort
of angle here. Again, it's another daring of the of
the referees, of the officials. I think that that comes
into play. I don't know if he's trying to garner
(03:55):
any sort of you know, empathy or anything from from
a fan base that may not of otherwise cheerful. I
have no idea. I don't know if he's trying to
garner support from the home crowd, trying to think that
he's the one that's being wronged. I think all of
those could be in play. I just don't think that
(04:16):
what he claims is happening is actually happening.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
But no one does, Yeah, no one does. On the
other hand, there's a little bit of I said this
before about about Lebron where we can and others do
this as well, where they copy the Trump idea. If
you don't follow what Lebron is saying, you don't agree
with what he's saying. One, then you're out right, which
(04:42):
is what Donald Trump has done. This is a little
bit Trumpian as well, where you're like, no, no, I'm
the victim here. Everybody else is wrong me. You put
me in a position to look like something that I'm
not like. One. No one really brought up the old
idea of an angry black man previously. And secondly, like, yeah,
(05:05):
I mean the most of the league, the American born
players are black. So if anybody gets angry, technically, if
you want to get down to it, I know that's
not what he means by angry black man, but you'll
look like an angry black man or an angry man
who happens to be black. And then you're the one
who's constantly getting thrown out of games. You're the one
who's constantly getting into a fray because you're the one
(05:26):
who's constantly you know, hitting guys across the head or
kicking guys in the nuts, like those are the things
that you're doing. And there's just no acceptance of it,
despite the fact that he is right, he is well educated,
does have a good family, none of that, all that
can be true. But this is like an every year
thing with him. Sure, and the part that I've said
(05:50):
this before, but this is the perfect example of it.
You know, us pointing out that he appears angry, he's
he can label you as a racist. And when you're
labeled a racist, especially when you're not and I know
you are not, and I know I am not it's like,
what am I supposed to do to prove that I'm
(06:10):
not a racist? But still point out your bs? Right?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Sure? So this is this is the interesting part of
it is I don't think he's talking. I don't know
who he's talking to because I don't know if he's
talking to Like in this case last night, Tony Brothers
was part of the officiating crew, which, by the way,
I feel like Tony Brothers has officiated every single Playoff
game this year, Like it's every time I'm on TV.
(06:38):
I think I saw Zach Zarbel once, but every otherwise
I think I see Tony Brothers every single game. So
I don't know if Draymond is saying not an in
a racial way of white against black, but saying to
Tony Brothers, who is one of the three officials last night.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
And for people don't know if Tony Brothers is black, Yes.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
You keep you keep doing this to me and you're
the one, as a black man that's making me look
like an angry black man because.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Every well could be true, but he doesn't. He doesn't specify.
So it's left us feel like, does he point out
the media? Is he talking about the crowd in Minnesota.
Is he talking about the officials? Is he pointing out
the league?
Speaker 3 (07:22):
And I think he's smart enough to know that everyone
will take notice of his comments and react in some way.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Which is what we're doing. Sure, this is the part
about giving an oxygen that I.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Mean, yeah, absolutely, and the officiating like will you will
you react in a way where you will either change
give him more leeway or will you do the opposite?
And I think that he's betting that maybe he will
get more more leeway. He was yelling at some of
and I don't know if he was yelling at Nazrid yesterday,
because there's no doubt that he hit nas Read. There's
(07:55):
no doubt that he hit Fred van Vliet in Game
seven on Sunday night. Like those on those follow through actions,
those are absolutely deliberate.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
And it's Draymond one oh one, yes, right, it's literally
Draymond one on one. That's what he does. That's what
he does. So I it's he does so many things
on the basketball floor which are amazing. But there's a
(08:25):
way and there is a necessary evil too, And might
say evil, I don't mean like real evil, but in
terms of basketball evil, there's a necessary evil to having
a guy who's not afraid to be a little bit
of a cheap shot or not afraid. You need a
couple of guys that are crazy. You can't have too many,
but you need a couple of guys otherwise you just
get punked. You just get pushed around. If you have
(08:46):
too many nice guys, it doesn't work. If you have
too many guys that are nasty, sometimes that doesn't work.
So he the whole thing works together. But when you're
right on that line of acceptable and unacceptable behavior, don't
be surprised when some people take it as unacceptable. He
just doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. And I
think he's thinking he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt,
(09:07):
you know, because they're trying to trigger him. I don't
think that's not what it is. It's dude, you lost
the benefit of the doubt years ago when you were constantly,
you know, calling out officials, making a mockery of them
and causing yourself to get technical fouls and get you
suspended previously.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
I think he lost the benefit of the doubt in
the twenty sixteen finals. I think that was the that
was the line with the crotch shot. The suspension.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Remember he had a bunch of different kicks into the crotch, Yeah,
that were supposedly inadvertent leading up to that.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
So it's been nine years and now's the time that
he's had enough.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
It's a Dog Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Happy Friday to you. So what we're gonna do is
we're gonna play for you what they said. They're gonna
tell you what they meant. Right, it makes sense, Uh,
play for you what they said and then tell you
what they meant. But by that, I mean, here's O. R. Conies,
(10:20):
the GM of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He explained how the
George Pickens trade came to be.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
Colo reached out at having to remember the data work
earlier this week, and you know, they gave us, they
proposed something at first for us to think about, and
you know, we.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
Had a conversations internally and also has some conversations.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
With George age to Dave, who I have a good
relationship with, and you know, we we we discuss where
things gid us have been with George, where they are
and you know where things can go to George, and
uh uh, you know this, this training made sense for everyone.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
So made sense for everyone. In other words, he had
a good relationship. It's always important to point out that, hey,
no animus here. We just tried to find him a
better spot for him. But the more you talk about it,
and I'll ask Mark Dominic he's going to join us
upcoming in about five minutes. The more you talk about
(11:19):
the more you hear about it, the more you realize
that it is as I portrayed it yesterday. Pittsburgh Steelers
they're about their culture. The Dallas Cowboys are about we
just want dudes, just dudes, dudes, dudes. You know, the
better the player, the better the production. When the player's
happy he's producing, then he'll turn into being a great citizen.
(11:43):
And it's not that George Pickens has any off the
field issues. It's just more getting along with an offensive
coordinator with a quarterback with a head coach. And he
hasn't liked this time in Pittsburgh. And you know, part
of me doesn't blame him, right, he didn't get to
play with Big Ben, he played with a wash up
(12:05):
Russell Wilson and a fairly erratic Justin Fields. He was
with you know, he was with Mason Rudolph when they
went to the playoffs, and before that he was with
Kenny Pickett. So I do understand, like anybody who's been
(12:28):
successful out of place has had a time when they
work with people are like, yeah, I don't know, this
guy's not good enough for what we're doing. I've worked
at ESPN, CBS, Fox now coaching college basketball. Like you
don't think that. You look around and there are people
that are promoted above their level of competency, of course,
(12:51):
but allowing that to come out for the world to see,
especially when you're in Pittsburgh, a place where the culture
is super important, it just doesn't work. So when you
hear Omar Connes like, yeah, they reached out to us
this week and were they reached out to what the
translation is, everyone knows he's on the market. Cowboys reached
out after the dust settled with the draft. We couldn't
(13:15):
move him during the draft, so his value is low.
And yeah, we called the agent. We're like, great, let's
get rid of him. That's what it feels like to me, awesome,
Oh you want trade for George, Well you're gonna have
to give us so okay, sure, because in addition to
(13:35):
George Pickens kind of be in the pain that took
us right and complaining about touches and et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera. At some point George Perkins is gonna have
to get a contract extension. The Pittsburgh ser is like, yeah,
we're that. We're not doing we're not paying the fifth
year option and we're not doing the contract extension. You
guys do that. And the price for getting rid of
(13:56):
that amount of money or that amount of future contract
is is you give up him in the sixth for
a third to fifth. That's what I heard in it.
I don't know what you heard of it. It's the
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio, and he
joins us every week and just gives us unbelievable insight.
He's Mark Dominic. He joins us here on Fox Sports Radio. Mark,
(14:16):
Let's start with what I think undoubtedly is the story
of the week. George Pickens is traded. It's a post
draft trade of a former first round pick wide receiver
it's George Pickens and a sixth for a third to
fifth next year, going back from Dallas to Pittsburgh. What
what's your immediate reaction to this trade?
Speaker 7 (14:40):
Yeah, I mean my immediate reaction is Pittsburgh has been
consistently correct in releasing receivers when they feel like it's
not a fit for what they want to be fundamentally.
And that's knowing Mike Tomlin, having worked with Mike Tomlin.
You go back to Antonio Brown, you can think of
Chase Claypool, and you can think of Deontae Johnson. You
could looks goes on and on, and now George pickensavoc
(15:01):
balls in that same bucket.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
It feels to me like this is a move, a
culture move for Pittsburgh and Dallas going after talent which
honestly tracks with both teams, both franchises.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Is that Is that a fair representation of what it
looks like to the league?
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (15:22):
I think so. I mean, I think obviously Mike knows
what he wants that locker room. I've been around Mike
for years as an assistant coach and certainly kept in
touch with them as the head coach of the Pittsburgh
Steelers saying, you know, you know that one thing that's
unique is, you know, George Pickens was kind of known
this way prior to coming into school. You know, Chase
Claypool had a little bit of like, I'm not so sure,
but the Steelers took them, but then they realized it
(15:44):
was not what they're looking for. I agree with you. Also,
I think Dallas, you know, went through the draft and
knows that they have to do something on the other
side of Ceedee Land, and I think that they're going
to try to see if they can manage pickens first season,
to see what it goes like. And this is a
chance for Pickens to kind of hopefully put his heels
in the ground andunderstand how quick things can change in
the Nation Footall League, how fast you could be enter
out take Claypool. And if I'm Dallas, I'm encouraged because
(16:08):
I didn't give up a lot. And if I'm Pittsburgh,
I know that to your point, I've got DK Metcalf
is really my number one, and I still think the
quarterback thing will get resolved there before we get to
the regular season.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Stell Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, you
said the quarterback thing will get resolved for the start
of the season. Do you think it's going to be
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Well, I mean that's said all along. It's been interesting
that Aaron hasn't said anything in the way that Pittsburgh
reacted to the draft. I got to think Aaron Rodgers
is one A and then Kirk Cousins is one B.
I just feel like that's the way they're looking at it.
I can't I can't imagine they can say what they
want in terms of feeling really good about the organization
and what's going on internally, you know, with you know,
(16:50):
a team that you know obviously got Baltimore and Fentandion's division.
I like me through Rudolph, you know, and I know
these drafting Will Howard, but I feel like there's just
it's hard for me to imagine them go into season
with those two quarterbacks knowing what's going to attack you
from you know, Baltimore and Sans respectively in their own
comment in their own division. So I think they're going
to do something. I'm still leaning toward Aaron. It doesn't
(17:13):
cost you anything from a draft flatteral standpoint, but if
they make a move for Kirk Cousins. That kind of
tells you Aaron Rodgers just doesn't want to tell anybody
else he's quitting or he's done with football. But I
think Aaron.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Still Yeah, I'm with you. I think that's I think
you nailed. I think that's exactly what's what's going to
take place. It's Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Mark Dominic is our guest, of course, former gentle manager
of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What does this do for
the Cowboys?
Speaker 7 (17:42):
Yeah, I think it really helps them. I think you know,
it gives Dak Pruscott another guy that certainly has a
tremendous because we all know, a tremendous ball awareness of
ball skill. You know, there's two different things there, Doug
as I'm sure you know, but you know, when we
out talk about a guy having ball awareness versus ball skills,
it's two different things. Number One, awareness is like understanding
where the is going to be or where it ends up.
(18:02):
The ball skills means you have that, but you also
know how to make the play on the balls. You're
going to make. The interception about Kirby Joseph last year
with the Detroit Lions and his interceptions. You know, George
Pickens has ball skills. He is so elite in terms
of be able to track the ball, adjustice body and
has the big catching radius that this really helps him
because they really don't have an other person opposite of
(18:24):
Ceed Lamb or somebody to take a little bit heat
up with Jake Ferguson or what they're going to want
to do out of the backfield. I think it's a
big move for Dallas, and again I think the risky
ward is worth it's for Dallas based off of that.
I know that Jerry Jones wants to win. They don't
want to win, but Jerry knows that clock is ticking
in his eternal life and he wants to do anything
he can to make sure that this team has a
(18:45):
chance to get all the way. So he's going to
willing to take the shot.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Mark tom Makers, our guests here on the Doug Ottlib
Show on Fox Sports. Sure, there's a video circulating out
there that the Rams clearly wanted out right, Sean McVay
kind of introducing DeVante Adams to the rest of the team,
and in it he's a few since praise the Devant
Adams but what are the legit, legitimate expectations DeVante at
(19:10):
this point in his career.
Speaker 7 (19:13):
Well, I think, you know this is it's Pokin the
coolest team I think. I think when you look at
what they're going to ask him to do, I think
he's going to be more moved to chains and get
the first down because he knows he's going to do
the right thing at the right spot and run the
right aue right route for DeVante Adams. Where this this
offense is going to run through Puka. I think Puka
is going to be the guy who still catches one
hundred balls and plus, where DeVante is going to be
(19:33):
more in that sixty to eighty range. But DeVante's may
be the third and five and we've got to have it.
You know, it might be other plays, but I think
that Puka and Kol brings the bigger explosion plays that
I think that they're desperately looking for. And I think
that's why they drafted Terrence Ferguson, because they feel like
they need to find different ways to get this offense
going as fast as possible to be. You know, Matt
(19:54):
Stafford to have his you know, Swansong two here in
the next year or two, whatever it is is Matt Stafford.
But I think Devanta's to play a good role. But
I do think it's going to be more than sixty
to eighty catch where I think that Pooka's the hunter
catch guy in that ouster for sure.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
But I tend to agree with you, And the question
is can DeVante handle being that sixty catch guy? That
That's that's kind of the question, right, It's like the
it's like that, can Cam Newton be a backup?
Speaker 6 (20:16):
No?
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Right, you know, it's those guys are not necessarily wired
for that sort of that that sort of thing. And
now that we've had a chance to catch our breath.
When you combine draft and free agency acquisitions as well
as the guys they kept, who's off season do you like?
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (20:39):
You know, I think that there's a lot of different
things out there when you kind of look through it,
you know, it's hard for me not to like what
Baltimore has done in terms of, you know, getting they
didn't do a lot in free agent, to understand that
they didn't lose a lot in free agent. I guess
I'd start with the Buffalo Bills. I love what they
did this offseason. Means then they spent six hundred million
(21:01):
dollars on their own players and it's still added Joey Bosa.
You bring in a Josh Palmer who I think both
have you know ability, and I like Matxell Harrison to
their first time draft to it to think is a
really good player. And I think p J. Spanders is
going to be an impact pack to them on the
defensive line as a rotation player. So I love what
Buffalo did. As bos as they are, it feels like
they've moved themselves just a little bit, maybe tigher to
(21:23):
the to the adline, and that's a great thing. And
then I think one thing I'd liked about the Green
Bay Packers on the off the A and the NFC,
but I liked how pointed they weren't creating. They way said, look,
we're going to get a starting guard. We're going to
get Aaron Banks, We're gonna get a starting corner, we're
gonna get Date Hops. And then they said they've been
saying that, the quarterbacks said it. We won a number one.
And so when Matthew Golden's on the board, they draft
(21:44):
Matthew Golden and then they go solidify their offensive line,
take a couple of receivers, and you know, they feel
like they're a complete unit. And so I do like
when Green Bay did because I think it was so calculated.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
It's not like that.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
It made me very impressed. It's hard not to get
the Bears a very you know, solid off season. We're
going to find out for a very great off season.
We're gonna find out who Caleb will July is because
their offensive interior offensive line that with Dolman, Dewey and
Jackson is really great. I love the Colson Lovelan pick.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
I love it.
Speaker 7 (22:14):
I think the guy's great. If Luther Burdon is not
a problem off the field, he's going to be a
very big impact player. And then you got Grady Jarrett,
so you know who's going to be still. I think
he still has it with from mar Turner of the
draft pick. So I love what the Bears did. We're
gonna find out who Caleb Willings really is this year, Doug.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
I don't think there's any doubt we're going to find
out exactly who he is. Mark Dominks our guest here
the dou Gotlib Show on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, who's
off season again? Free agency? Draft all told lead you
scratching your head.
Speaker 7 (22:46):
Well, I still I don't feel like the Carolina Panthers
took a big step this year. I think your offensive
line is still a big problem. I don't feel like
they've got explosive players on the offensive side of the ball.
I know they took McMillan, and they had took Viggers
like a year. But Cuba Hubbard, I think is a
good back. Tommy Tremble is an average type end right,
and so Adam Feeling is getting fairly old. So I
(23:09):
just in the offensive line, it's not something that I
love to write home about. So I don't feel like
the Carolina Panthers being where they were made up a
lot of ground and where I think they would be
in terms of the of the AFC. You know, for me,
it's kind of hard to look at the Cleveland Browns
and feel good about what they've been doing. I know
that the trade was good in terms of getting next
(23:30):
year's number one, but I just feel like Cleveland is
in a interrupt in a back spot, and I know
the quarterback situation put him there, but I just don't
feel like Cleveland's in a position to be as competitive
as I thought they would be, or I hope they
would be this year. So I didn't love Cleveland's offseason.
We'll see what the team looks like this year. But again,
Baltimore and Cincinnati are are levels ahead where Cleveland and
(23:53):
Pittsburgh are now.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Yep, I agree with you, And you know it's interesting
you point out Cincinnati. I shut it up and down here.
What about their defense? What have they done to fix
that unit?
Speaker 5 (24:06):
Well?
Speaker 7 (24:06):
I think part of it was, you know, getting Al
Golden in there to run the defense. I think that's
something that certainly Zach Taylor felt to be very important
to make that change. I think defensively, one of those
things that really hit them last year were Injuriedes at
the cornerback position, whether it was DJ Turner went down
to a lot, dack Hill went down. You know, their
cornerback room got dectimated. Cam Taylor Britt went through you
like a rollercoaster in terms of his consistency. I think
(24:28):
they kind of told you that they know they needed
a little more work with Samar Stewarts their first rounder,
and the night in the second round kind of spoke
to you that they still know they need to work
in next front seven. But I think that they're a
lot better off. I think that they're you know, if
they get Terray Henderson and everything settled down. I think
the defense is good enough to be able to score
point and let the offense continued to you know, cook
(24:50):
the way it has been over the last couple of years.
So I like what they did. It wasn't outstanding, you know,
they kind of like normal since THETIY. They didn't get
crazy in the free agency, but they certainly I think,
got themselves in the spot where I think, defensively under
alcohol and they're going to get.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Shape, you know. Out if we saw this, read this,
did Jim Harbaughs that he woke up and he realized
he has to get he has to get Justin Herbert
into the Hall of Fame, Like, look, let's just win
a playoff game. First. I thought Herbie had a great
year with limited resources. Does he have the resources at
his disposal next year to have an even better year?
Speaker 7 (25:28):
I think so, you know, I think, you know, with Hampton,
who I love, I think he is worthy of being
a first round pick draft pick to running back out
of the Norse line. I absolutely think he's the first
round draft shots, and I think that that's kind of
the thing that they've really needed, is who's the guy
that can turn the balls over to if I want
to run it twenty two times? And I know they
have Nijer Harris there, but we all know Nigie is
a good back ron. I think Hampton has a chance
(25:49):
to be more special and I think that's a big
piece of it. And I think, you know, we'll see
if Fecton can do a guard. But the offensive line
together the unit is really good. Trey Harris I think
will help them at the receiving spot along with the
Mike LANs and certainly Lad McConkie is going to continue
I think explosive and I think they have given him
more weapons around it. I think that's going to help
(26:12):
them a lot. I still think the tight end position,
even though I love Tyler Conklin and what he is,
the one that's the one spot where I wish they
had something a little more dynamic. We'll see what Ronda
gads who can look like. That's the only spot where
I'd say, for Justin Herbert, I wish they had something
more dynamic there.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Fair Enough, Mark Dobinick, he's our guest on a weekly basis.
He's former general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's
one of the best in the absolute in the business. Mark,
thanks so much for joining us. Have a great weekend,
and we appreciate you joining us on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
Thanks so you two, Buddy, all right.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. I will
say this, Dan, you know it's interesting. I was looking
at kind of the sports calendar, right and tonight we
got some NBA playoff games back in. We'll talk next
hour a bunch about Celtics nix as that moves to
Madison Square Guard. But you know, you guys do know
that Memorial Day is like not the last weekend in May.
(27:07):
I guess it's the last full weekend in May. So
it's we're two weeks away from Memorial Day weekend, right,
do you guys?
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Yes, yep.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Indy five hundred is Memorial Day weekend. And when I
was a kid, this is like I do feel like
I've got to put my teeth in and go. When
I was your kid, we cared. Can anybody name any
of the drivers who will be racing in the Indy
five hundred.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
I am not familiar I know and.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
And Dan, I'm not max anyway? Is that is it
max power? Well, don't a lot of F one drivers.
Speaker 8 (27:49):
There is some crossover to the Indy five hundred, like
Takumasato he does both.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Uh, it's kind of actually impressive Sam that you know that,
I literally And it's interesting because Dan is the most
sports guy of us as sports guys, are we okay
with that?
Speaker 3 (28:06):
I agree certain areas, sure, I think there's other ones
where you guys have me beat.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
But yeah, but again in certain areas. But like you know,
you know enough about a lot more than most than
we do, and a far greater depth of knowledge of
hockey because of your football Fantasy Football podcast and once reflects.
I think there's a greater depth of a lot of
(28:32):
the skill position guys, sure than even I had.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
And just so it's it's will power not max power.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Well, like max power would be a goo one.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
I looked it up. There's a soccer player with the
name of Max Power.
Speaker 8 (28:45):
Max Power is a gag from The Simpsons in an episode, So.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
I confuse there.
Speaker 8 (28:50):
But like I've you know, Alio Castro, Nevis, Simon Pagano,
like those are names that I think that they they
just bleed over into US IndyCar racing and and so
I yeah, maybe maybe a couple of those names you'd
find on the roster.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
I do feel like when we were kids, Dan, maybe
I'm wrong, we knew. Maybe it was because we knew
aj Foyt, we knew some of these guys, but it
was a lot more top mind. Now they still draw
incredibly well. Right, it's still a thing, but it's just
not a national thing that anybody really cares. And now
we cover sports a lot more than we ever did
(29:25):
when we were kids, but God, nobody cares.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
I well, I would say that people do care about
the NDY five hundred. I think that there are people
that still have family traditions watching it with their family,
even if they aren't necessarily completely familiar with the drivers.
I think that there are a couple of things in play.
You know, at one point there was the split. But
I do think that NASCAR. NASCAR took a lot of
(29:50):
eyes and a lot of popularity in the mainstream media
for a while. Now that has waned, so it's not
like they've gone anywhere. But Sam brought up F one.
I think that's been a part of it as well is.
I think F one has gotten extremely popular, whether it
be because of the TV series or other reasons. It's
a quicker watch in those the races aren't going on
for four or five hours, Like there's reasons why. Maybe
(30:14):
an audience drew that way, but yeah, it's it is
not as popular as I felt like it was maybe
twenty or thirty years ago. There are still people who
carry on the tradition, but not as mainstream. We would
always have the Indy five hundred driver on our network,
usually the day after and that doesn't even happen anymore.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Yeah, I I remember that. I mean I remember like
when I was at one of the other places, it
was the same thing, and slowly but surely it wane.
They were like nobody cares, nobody knows who these people are.
I just I don't know. I thought it's interesting because
that's you know, that was usually signified hey, summer is here,
and I can remember many a trips as a kid.
(30:56):
He's like, but moor all day weekend, like, oh, I
know we're gonna flip on whip on the five hundred.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Doug Gotleep show here on Fox Sports Radio every day.
This time we turned the show over to one Dan Byer,
where he sets us up to play a game.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Hey there, Dan Byer, what do you got, Bud, Doug?
Speaker 3 (31:30):
The game today is I got dick. Hey, I just
I we don't have time. I do have to deal
with this. Just remind me, guys, Brooklyn, that's graphic Doug.
At some point during this show, Brooklyn, that's graphic, I
tweeted it. I am just amazed by it. All right.
The game today is I got DIBs. This is where
I throw out a topic and we all just try
(31:53):
to grab what we want. We want DIBs on it
all right. Starting out NBA Playoffs, the NBA team still
alive that you want to win it all? Who would
you like to see win it all? Of the team's
remaining in this NBA Playoffs?
Speaker 2 (32:08):
I got dabs, M. I would like to see the
New York next what it wah? You know, my late
father god Rest is soul a huge Knicks fan. Plus,
I just think that I just think it makes the
NBA better if the Knicks have a champion, and it
(32:29):
would be an upset for them to be there.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
So yeah, the next I got the Nuggets. Oh, okay, Nuggets.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
You got the Nuggets because every time that guy wins anything,
the rest of the league gets really pissed off. So
I root for the guy to piss everyone off.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
I got DIBs on the Thunder. I think I'm going
on the Thunder. There's there's no team in the East
that I want for sure. Give me the Thunder, Sam.
I got DIBs on the Calves.
Speaker 8 (32:56):
They had a very impressive regular season that included multiple
long winning streaks. They're in a big hole now and
I don't think they're going to get out of this
against the Pacers, but I'm going to take the Calves.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Amazing on how things can turn lead in Game two?
You think it's all theirs now questionable? Evan Mobley, DeAndre Hunter,
Darius Garland Again tonight you could be down three crazy
all right, guys. On the topic of uniform numbers, favorite
number for a quarterback to wear? What numbers do you
(33:32):
like to see on quarterbacks? I got DIVS seven seven.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Yeah, John Elway, that's right number. Yeah, seven is great,
number lucky seven, seven.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
It works. I'm going to go. I got DIBs on sixteen.
And I don't know if it's Joe Montana, could be
Peyton in college, but I just think it looks good
on a quarterback. I know there are more popular numbers,
but I'm going six.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
It's sweet, That's what it is.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
Yes, it has to my birthday. It has to be
double digits. It just has to be double digits. I lose.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
I lose a little bit of respect for any quarterback
that does single digit. You don't like seven, No, No,
seven is a bad number on in any sport. When
I see seven in baseball, I think it looks bad.
And yes, I'm talking to you, Dansby Swanson, so sit down, so.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
I'll make sure we You would tell Matt Holliday there's
another time you can tick off Matt Holiday. Oh last year,
last year was you called who was it? You said?
Is a choker? Said?
Speaker 4 (34:35):
I said that up until he started not choking. That
Mookie Bets had been a choker in the last three postseasons. Yes,
I'm gonna go with number number fifteen for Patrick Mahomes.
And I just liked the way the number fifteen looks
on a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Bart Starr Bart Star wars fifteen as well. I knew
that Samy went one.
Speaker 8 (35:00):
I got DIBs on four. I do like single digits.
Four just looks cool.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Four. I would if I do this, single digit eight
or one would also be in contention.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
You could all agree though, that six looks awful on
a quarterback. Yes, and there's never been a great quarterback
number six ever.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Well speak now Jackson Dart wearing number six with the Giants,
so just so you know, and Abdul Carter has decided
to wear fifty one. All right, final one? Do you
want to do the McDonald's one of the baseball one? Doug,
it's your show.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
Oh by the way, Dan, Dan, hold on a second,
did you guys see that Abdul Carter chose number fifty
one today?
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Now?
Speaker 4 (35:41):
On Monday, I said, you split the difference between Lawrence
Taylor and Phil Simms and picked fifty one, and he listened,
picked fifty one today.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
You just but did you just hear me ten seconds
ago say that he picked fifty one?
Speaker 4 (35:51):
No?
Speaker 3 (35:52):
No, no, no, bokay, get into the show, okay, sure, yep,
fifty one for Abdul Carter Jackson Dart number six game
Skataboo's got forty four? All right, one item at McDonald's.
Will do that? One? Take one item? You're at to
drive through McDonald's. What are you ordering?
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Uh? I got DIBs. Mcgriddle is the greatest grill ever heard.
I mean, have you guys ever had a mccriddle?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, many times?
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Amazing.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
I'm gonna go. I got DIBs.
Speaker 8 (36:23):
I'm gonna stay with breakfast Sausage of breakfast brito, the
fake cheese in it.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Jeez, I'll just take a fry. I thought I was
gonna have to be secondary, but I'll take the fries.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
On popular choice. But I got DIBs on the foil fish.
And just for the record, Sam picked a Mexican dish
at McDonald's.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Hell, yes, great, that's game time.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
This is game time on the Doug gott Leap Show.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
It's Doug got Leave Show. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
How big a game is tonight?
Speaker 3 (36:54):
Huge?
Speaker 2 (36:54):
We'll explain next
