the shores of the Bay of Green Green Bay, Wisconsin
and from Sherman Oaks, California. Welcome in. It's a Monday.
Hope you had a great weekend, truly great weekend, and
uh we're just glad to be with you. That's really
what it kind of comes down to. Rick Buker is
going to join us live at twenty five. After the hour,
(00:48):
we'll talk all things playoffs with buke. Oh it's next hour. Sorry,
my bed, my bed, I get my hours confused. Okay.
In the meantime, I'm let's let's talk. We got football
this hour. I got some Shore Sanders and some Dylan
Gabriel talk about, plus George Pickens apparently going scorched earth
(01:13):
on Pittsburgh, and we got the press we got game time,
we got the whole crew here. You heard Dan Byer,
that means my man Dan's here. Of course, you got
Iowa Sam or Big Apple Sam. And you have my
guy Jay Stu. Hey, I thought. I thought Jay Stu
brought up a great point. And I'm gonna make it
(01:35):
as my own. Okay, but I agree with him. That's
why I'm gonna make it as my own. Which is normally,
normally the talk of trading a superstar in the off season,
when we're in early May, it's May twelfth or close
to mid May. Normally it's like, really, you know, kd
(01:58):
is gonna get moved, Giannie is gonna get moved, Devin
Booker might get moved. I don't think Lebron gets moved,
but again, he may act like he's gonna get moved.
Joel embiid getna come back. What does it look like
around him. Let's see what happens with the Celtics after
(02:20):
the season, because Perzingis doesn't feel like he can get
or can can stay healthy. Assuming they survive, and maybe
that's a big assumption. Down two games to one, they'll
be player moving. But normally May twelfth, you talk about
player moving like literally Normally, you talk about the NBA
draft lottery and there's not a crazy amount of interest,
(02:42):
even if the talent is crazy exciting Victor Webbin Yama
very exciting player. A couple of years ago, there was
some tanking going on for Wemby, but our interest in
the lottery and theft has clearly waned over the years.
(03:03):
If you go back the last twenty thirty years, I
did ten of these drafts, and every year, and granted
the first year was Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Camelo, Anthony,
Chris Bosh, Darker, Milisic, et cetera, et cetera, it's not
close to that. And part of it is we don't
We don't feel like the one and done guys can
(03:24):
help right away, and the older guys feel like they're
just older guys. They're not great players, regardless of whether
or not we've had draft picks in the portal era
be successful or not. And the fact that the portal
and the money in college has weeded out a lot
of the hey, late first, early second guys they get
in the draft that are clearly aren't ready. They go
(03:45):
back to college and make more money and they do
get older, and they do get better. Very rarely do
we get excited about a draft or draft lottery. Very
rarely do we get excited about free agency movement on
May twelfth. Here's the here's why it's different this year.
You have the possible, at least the possibility of Giannis
(04:09):
wanted to be moved. He got two years left in
his contract. And you have a very unique incoming talent
who is widely regarded as the number one overall player,
who's younger than guys have been previous American players have
been previously because he reclassified. He's only eighteen years old.
And I'd be lying to you if I didn't say
(04:31):
at least a factor of of the I don't know.
The hope for him is he he's ready to play
at a very young age, and he's the great white
American hope. Again, I don't think that's why you draft players, right,
(04:54):
I mean, ninety five percent or so of the best
NBA players are black men, whether they're from here or
from Greece or from from Canada or wherever. I you know,
ninety five percent, But the point is very high percentage,
(05:15):
and so you're never going to sacrifice the chance of
having a great player just because of the color of
his skin. You're still in the You're still in the
business of winning games. Nothing else matters. You want to
fill up seats, win games, win games, win games. But
if the top prospect happens to be white American born,
(05:36):
which we have not had, there's at least a curiosity
to it. If not, based upon his play in college,
his play with against Team USA last summer leads you
to think like, hey, maybe this guy could be different
than so many in the past. And it leads to
the question, which is a very simple one. Would it
(05:57):
trade away the chance at Cooper Flag who's gonna make
far less money? And you're like, you have to NBA guys,
you have to have dollar for dollar equate. You do,
but you throw in everything else in the kitchen sink. Really,
it's your chading a top level NBA player for a
(06:20):
very top level prospect. Normally, would you do it? And
I think a lot of it depends upon where the
team is in their growth, but also also can they
get can they build around Jannis for example, if Jannis
(06:42):
was to be moved. And I think it's a great
question because my take is pretty simple. I absolutely trade
that pick, and I love Cooper Flag, but I know
what Joannison Tennacumpo is like. Is he the best shoot
in the world.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
No.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Is he the easiest guy to play with of a superstar. No,
he does appear to be a great human being. He
is a beloved teammate, and we've seen him win an
NBA Finals MVP. We've seen him kind of win a
game at that level on his own and close out
a series on his own. Everything from Cooper Flag is
hope that he can maybe someday possibly get to that level.
(07:22):
You know, the devil you know is better than the
devil you don't now. The flipside too, that is Gunnis
has been hurt a good amount. I don't think he's
in the downside of his career, but he's definitely not
at the apex of his career. And he makes a
crazy ton of money, whereas Cooper Flag would not. But
I think that's what makes this draft or this draft
(07:44):
lottery tonight really interesting because depending upon who gets the pick,
it's much more movable and the possibility becomes a higher
rate of probability if it's a if it's the right
(08:05):
team that wants to win now, right, Cooper Flag is
going to be a hell of a player in the NBA.
Do I think he's gonna be a top five, top
ten player in the NBA. I don't know. I don't
know what that looks like. Once he gets the league.
I think, yeah, it feels like it. He's up for
the challenge. He plays well, big games, He's played against
(08:26):
older guys. He can do. He can do a ton
on the floor. And if you don't like the way
he he shoots middies off the dribble, just know that
eventually it'll get to where he's those are. They're more
a higher percentage of threes, and as he develops more
develops more range, it'll be even better. But like the
guy's legit that said, I know what Yiannis is, I
(08:47):
would definitely have said somebody said, hey, basically, it's straight
up Jiannis for Cooper Flag. Like, I know what I'm
getting there. I take Giannis. But at least it's an
interesting conversation, whereas in so many years in the past,
I don't think it's that interesting. And you know, aj
(09:11):
Debansa is considered the top prospect going to college this year.
There are reports he's gonna make seven million dollars to
go to BYU. And if you've seen some of the
miked up segments with AJ debands that you're like, yeah,
I'm not sure I love him. Cooper Flag does not
have the same uh, polarizing trash talk in his background.
(09:33):
But I think the draft lottery is really interesting, and
it's really interesting because this is the rare year where
you can actually have that discussion, and it's a way.
Normally you go like number one pick for you, honis,
move him goodbye. But when you have a generational sort
of talent plus a generational sort of story, and again,
(09:55):
let's not avoid it. I don't think that Cooper flag
Is is rated how he's rated because of the color
of his skin. I don't. I don't think anybody would
say that. I think he's rated how he's rated because
at every level he's been the best player. But you
can't deny the fact that America hasn't had a like
(10:18):
who's the best Tyler Hero is probably the best American
born white player in the NBA. Is that is that
who we're going with? Right? So I do think it
makes it interesting. Does it make it a drawing card?
I don't know. I don't know why other people watch basketball,
(10:38):
and I don't like being told this is why other
people watch. I like to see things how they played out.
Did Duke's number spike? No, people still watch Duke. But
I think that his talent is what makes him interesting,
because he is, without anyone's any question, the number one prospect,
and he's an American born kid, and he seems to
(10:59):
be one of these fluid big guys who can play
anywhere on the court, kind of like a honest But again,
if you take him, you're more hoping that he could
eventually become He'll never become Yannest because he's a different player,
but that level of dominance, whereas with Giannis, you know
what he is. Let me ask you by it real quick,
because you're a Bucks fan, and I don't think there's
(11:22):
any doubt that though you don't watch every game, you
watch a lot more Bucks basketball than I have. But
if I told you Cooper Flag and what he could
become or Yiannis and what he is, what would you do?
And again, I know that the salaries don't match, and
you have to do other stuff and throwing things in
the bag, but that's kind of what it comes down to,
what would you do well?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
So just to give a little background, because we talked
about this a couple of weeks ago in passing after
the Dame injury, because it just didn't look like the
Bucks future was that great at that time. And it's
like when your team in college football loses, you look
at recruiting lists. Same thing in college basketball, what do
(12:03):
we have coming in? What can we do in transfer portal? Now,
you're always looking ahead, And I thought about that. I
would rather at this point, if I'm the Milwaukee Bucks,
have Cooper Flagg, then Yannis. But there's also the point
of for the teams that are likely to get the
(12:23):
number one overall pick, they don't need Yannis. They'd just
be what the Milwaukee Bucks likely are right now. If
you were Charlotte, or if you were the Wizards, or
if you were the Jazz, and those are the teams
that are the best chances of winning the lottery and
getting the number one overall pick. Not only are you
doing a swap, but you're giving other pieces as well
(12:45):
away to Milwaukee as part of that deal that I
don't even I don't even think it's realistic in this conversation. Now,
if Brooklyn would jump up and get number one, maybe
a different story there, maybe another team jumping up and
getting that opportunity. But yeah, it's just it's tricky because
I think the Bucks could win forty two games with
(13:07):
Giannis and without Dame and went ten and four without Dame.
At the end of the year, there's going to be
some change over. But you mentioned the points against him
and the health, and it's a battle of wills in
the NBA with these two topics because number one potential
it's what we always draft, but number two superstars. So
I'm not a big Marvel DC sort of guy, but
(13:29):
it seems like it's a battle of those two titans
coming at each other on which one you would go
with and I would go with for the Bucks scenario.
On this case, I would rather have Cooper Flagg's future.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Wow, Jannis has not made any firmness. Is this from
Scham's on the Bucks future after the franchise third consecutive posts,
He's an exit in the first round. But for the
first time his career, Giannis is open mind about exploring
whether his best long term fit is remaining in Milwaukee
or playing elsewhere. League sources toward the ESPN teams have
approached the Bucks frequently over the years about the availability
(14:02):
of Johniston Tinacumpo as a normal exercise, and they expected
it's expected to ramp up due diligence during the combine week,
according to the league's sources. So again, we have time
for it. But the fact that he's at least open
to exploring tells you where he is. And I'm with you.
(14:24):
I actually I agree with you from a Bucks perspective.
I think the rest of it is really interesting, really interesting.
Like take take Brooklyn for example, Dan right, they've had
their best teams when they haven't had those troops. Now
I could sit there and go like, hey, if I'm fair,
When they had KD and they had Kyrie and they
(14:47):
had James Harden, Harden wasn't healthy, but they were going
to beat the Bucks. Kyrie gets hurt and then KD
still could have won the series had his toe on
the line in Game seven. So they haven't been that
far off. But where they, like, does Giannis make them
a championship team? And my answer would be no, No,
(15:11):
whereas Cooper flag like that makes Brooklyn way more interesting,
and it continues to build with what they do. So
I'm very much team dependent upon what I do.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
I think that the closest thing that we have in
this scenario for the history of what we've seen is
when the Calves traded Andrew Wiggins in the deal to
bring in Kevin Love, that they chose Big three for
Lebron in his return than developing Andrew Wiggins and keeping
him on that team with Lebron and Kyrie, and I
(15:46):
think it's a it's they're not apples to apples, but
that's the where the time where the Cavs said, Okay,
we will trade that number one overall pick. We will
trade that guy for a substantial piece that we feel
that good bring us the title. Yes, now it's the
deal that I think that we could come to, and
looking at.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
It, it's it's a great parallel. I'd say the differences, right,
the differences. Super Flag is a much more well regarded
prospect than Andrew Wiggins's. Right, this is a year in
which there's absolutely number one pick that you absolutely think
should be an NBA All Star. Whereas Andrew Wiggins was
always a what if sort of guy? Right, what if
(16:26):
sort of guy? And that was that was the Embiid year,
wasn't it?
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Yeah, And so you know if you can redraft, like
remember Embiid missed his entire first year and bid got
hurt before the draft when he's playing college basketball. So
would you have made that would that move had made
sense if it was a healthy Joel Embiid. I think
the answer is no. I think the answer is no.
(16:52):
But it's it's it's just a fascinating deal where normally
we've gotten to this place like eh draft lottery, schmaf lottery.
But now when you factor in a prospect who is
absolutely regarded as the number one guy, that's Cooper Flag
and the potential for a superstar somewhat in his prime.
(17:12):
I don't know how many more years we view him
as such, but he's still a really talented guy that
can obviously help carry a basketball team. Could be on
the move. And the only reason I say this is
because Sham says, first time in his career he's open
to the thought of it. For forty years, Tyrak has
(17:33):
been helping customers find the right tires for how where
they drive. Shit passed him. Free backed by free Road

Dan Byer Jay stew I was Sam of the Ones
and twos, so I think I told you this story guys.
When I was fresh out of college, I played in
the league called the usbl shout out to my folks
in Enid, where I played at Mark Price Arena. So
(18:53):
USBO was a cool league. About half the players had
played at least some amount of time in the NBA,
and we had several. We had Willy Burton, who was
the ninth pick in the draft. I played University of Minnesota.
He scored fifteen an NBA game with the seventy six ers.
We had Bubba Wells. That's not Bondsi Wells. Bubba Wells
who led the country in scoring. I want to say it,
(19:13):
Austin p that sounds like a Dan Byer question. Le
Bradford Smith was on my team. What Bubble Wells played
Dan Byer? Do you know? Oh?
Speaker 3 (19:28):
I don't know, okay, I just I saw you.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
On camera and you looked at me like I screwed
it up, And.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Oh I looked at you like I have no idea
when you said that, I would.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Know, okay. So he's just about our age, and he
led the country in scoring as like an undersized man.
He was Austin Peacod fly is open, Let's go pee.
So we had Bubba Wells. He was the second round pick.
We had Willy Burton, who was the ninth pick of
the draft, but he got named Galen Young. God rest
his soul. He passed away. He was the one. Do
you guys remember it was like last summer or summer before.
(19:58):
There was a former NBA player as a coach who
was like on the computer at his mom's house and
some drunk driver like ran into the house and killed him.
That was Gayleen Young. It's a friend of mine. The
craziest thing ever, super sad. Anyway, Gayle to the young
La Bradford Smith, like, these are all guys that either
drafted by or had more than cups of coffee or
Willie Burton played Le Bradford Smith. He's the one who
(20:20):
gave Jordan thirty one in a game and then some
reporters said he was talking trash and Jordan on the
back to back nights gave him thirty one the second half.
So there's dudes in this league. But I remember I
was done with like my first week at training camp
and I called my dad in Southern California's like, Dad,
this is the best team I've ever been a part
(20:40):
of town was I have never seen it. These guys
are so good, like they don't miss open shots. They're
so much bigger, there's so much more skilled, and he's
like son. There's always a reason. And I won't give
away which player was, but one of our players struggled
with his weight. And I remember, like our first game
pull out of the holiday in take a right, there's
this right there, and that same player was eating two
(21:02):
double cheeseburgers in a milkshake, like an hour and a
half for the game. And so I'd always think to myself,
my dad's comments, there's always a reason. Well, if you
needed a reason why Shoudre Sanders was a hard guy
to draft in those middle to end rounds, I give
(21:22):
you This weekend in Brea, Ohio. Barrea is the home
of the Cleveland Browns practice facility. They're having a little
uh mini camp and I mean you would think they
drafted the number one and number two player at quarterback,
but no, no, they just drafted Dylan Gabriel and Shadoor Sanders.
(21:46):
Here's Shadour asked about proving the doubters wrong.
Speaker 5 (21:50):
Thank you for saying that, because I don't like my
job here isn't approved people wrong, Like I'll prove myself right.
That's that's that's I and I fully self believe with
those people say that that's just their opinion, So I
don't truly care. They don't really live in my mental
space about that type of stuff really doesn't.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Do anything for me. Okay, here's Dylan Gabriel when he's
asked about being compared to Shador. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:16):
I think the more questions I get asked like that,
it just divides the team. And for me, I think,
you know how, you know, we're in a room full
of not just us, but Kenny, Joe and Deshaun and
for us, you know, we know how important a healthy
QB room is. But also, you know, a team that
you want to be a part of, you know, and
how do you create an environment every single day where
(22:38):
everyone can be at their best and that's just pushing
one another, which talent naturally does, and you know naturally
it's it's healthy, you know for us where we all
go do our thing and everyone wins.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
I gotta tell you, that's the worst drafting I've ever
heard of in the NFL, because there's no real argument
to be made that they really like you Sanders, or
at least that the front office did because they could
have drafted him in the third round. They chose not to.
Then he was still around. Then you're gonna draft a guy, Well,
he was up there on our board, Like wait what
(23:12):
that doesn't make any sense. So you're cutting one of
these two players. You can't keep both. And if you
wondered why it's hard to draft a Shador as a
backup quarterback, it's because fair unfair. He has such a
big social media presence, his dad is such a big name.
The Colorado thing was so big that you're gonna ask
(23:34):
about him constantly. And as Dylan Gabriel pointed out, every
question divides a locker room because the question isn't can
you draft Shador? It's can you cut Shador? And or
can you play Shador? And if you don't play well,
do you keep your job? Or does Dion come riding
(23:55):
in like a I've coached him, we can win with him. Meanwhile,
Dylan Gabriel hill like, look, he is undersized, he's small,
don't have a huge arm, he's accurate, and he played
college football forever forever. And here's a guy who normally
(24:18):
you would want to root for, right, seems like a
good dude, seems like he's about the right things. He's
a little bit undersized, doesn't have a huge arm, he's mobile,
but it's not like he's Lamar. But now he's got
to answer questions about another rookie quarterback that some people
had rated above him, that his own team chose behind him,
(24:40):
and he's got to fight out just to make the team.
And my point of the USBL story is there's always
a reason, and there's obviously two reasons. One is, you know,
supposedly the Giants interview is so bad that they're getting threatened.
They won't show it even though they have it all documented,
(25:02):
the arrogance, how he handled himself, But that's part of it.
This is a big part of it as well. Go ahead, Dani,
you look at you get something.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Uh. I will just say this Doug, that I was
I was surprised.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
I was surprised.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I was surprised, but I shouldn't have been surprised at
how the Browns handled this over the weekend and seeing
tweets of another dime from Shador look at look at
this throw and I'm like, we like, Shadoor isn't even
doing this now, Like now it's over into the media
(25:39):
for everybody who wants to carry the flag for Shador
Sanders again, and we're talking about what what a rookie
mini camp on May tenth. I I just it's I
don't know if it's gonna be too much. I'm curious
when the whole team is there. But you talk about
it being an awful draft pick just for the sake
of having to quarterbacks drafted to the third and fifth round.
(26:03):
What's it gonna do to the team. Remember, Miles Garrett
signed that long term deal because he felt like this
they had given him enough of an indication that this
team was ready to compete for championships. And now we're
hyping up throws like I think it would have been
best if he if Shdor just kind of settled in
and did whatever. But now he's in a Browns uniform
(26:24):
and they're still trying to convince those who I don't
know if you ever will convince. Yeah, it seemed like
a lot to.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Me, agreed. If you want to know why, this is why,
you go like, yeah, I'm good. And again, this one
not a fault to Shador. I agree with you. Shor
dian't do any of this, But every throw, even the
questions about Why did Dylan Gabriel take the first snap? Right?
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (26:54):
I mean because I said so, all right, ready for

(27:15):
a movie last night and it it It is a
really good question. Okay, have you guys ever it's a
almost it's nine years old. It's called Passengers. You guys
ever heard of Passengers? Chase Stu, you're kind of my
movie guy.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
Passengers not by name doesn't ring about.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Though, Okay. Chris Pratt and God Lawrence Jennifer Lawrence in
the movie. Okay, can I it's nine years old? I
can give you the premise, right, Okay. There's a spaceship
that's headed to a colony. This is obviously years in
(27:55):
the future, and everyone on the spaceship hibernates for one
hundred and eleven years and eight months, and the last
four months they're up and about and then they're in
a different colony and they land there and they're the
same age as they were when they took off. Right,
(28:18):
one of the pods malfunctions and Chris Pratt is awake
and he's trying to find his way back into hibernation.
Otherwise he'll die on the ship before it ever lands
at the new colony. So he's left with the decision.
(28:39):
And here's the decision. Does he wake up he didn't
even know her, but a beautiful woman, or does he
wake up everybody? Does he let everybody sleep and then
die on his own. Now you know, he could live
up to ninety years, although he's, you know, in his
thirties at the time. So my question to you, Dan
Byer is if me, Jay Stu leaves, Uh, your son Brody, Sam,
(29:07):
we're all asleep in pods, you get woken up, do
you live it out and die and let them have
their own life? Do you live with Lisa and Brody
alone on this incredible spaceship where you do all this
other stuff? What do you do?
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Yeah, I'd want to be with my wife and son,
I know.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
But if you wake her up, she's gonna die in
the spaceship. Okay, in this particular case, nobody I think
is married. So it's what makes it makes it a
harder recall right, it does make it sort of easier.
Then do you do you wake Brody up?
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Well? This is this is pretty this, this is it's
pretty pretty dramatic. Dramatic. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna need
some time to think about this. Well, no, and and
honestly I missed half of the plot because I got
to step away because I got to record something else.
But any if there would be any harms of my son,
(30:02):
I would not want to obviously do anything.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
There's no harm done to it. Okay again, well, okay,
I want you guys to think about it.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
We'll choosing your fate. It's choosing your fate.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
It's choosing whether or not somebody lives out their life
on a spaceship. Okay, or they sleep and then there
you wake them up and they get to live out
in some utopia. Right, No smog, no fog, Mama, cook
the breakfast, no hog. I know, just poses an interesting
question ready for Oh we did that? Coming up next
(30:33):
to The Doug Gottlieb Show. How big a deal is
that that the NFL chose the Cowboys as the Eagles
opening night opponent. I'll tell you next.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Be sure to catch the live edition of the Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
It's a Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Top of
the hour, we got little love and hate. What we'd
love from the weekend when we hated from the weekend.
But the end of the first hour of this here
show live on Fox Sports Radio, we turn over to
Dan Buyer and say, Dan, let's play a game.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Hey there, Dan, what's the game today? Doug?
Speaker 4 (31:21):
The game today is big deal, Little deal, no deal?
Speaker 3 (31:25):
All right, big deal, little deal or no deal. We
start out in the NFL Big Deal, little dealer no deal.
That the league shows the Cowboys is the Eagles opponents
in the NFL kickoff game.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
I know it's a rarity to have Cowboys Eagles this
early in the season, but it does feel like who's broadcasting.
It's NBC, right, I mean, it's NBC clearly trying to
go through out a huge number nice Cowboys Eagles, gigantic number.
(31:56):
And it signifies to me that the NFL, I don't
know if I want to say they're playing ball, but
they're playing ball here, like, hey, you got the Super
Bowl this year. You paid a lot of money. We're
gonna whatever you want, and like, all right, you gotta
have the champions. What's the biggest draw there is? I
don't think. I don't believe Steelers Eagles would be the
(32:19):
only one that's close. I don't think there's a bigger
draw in all honesty than Cowboys Eagles. And that's why
the league did so it's a big deal.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
I also have a theory, can I take philty seconds?
Because yesterday on our Sunday show with Mike Harmon and
our crew, we made predictions for what this game would
be and none of us picked the Cowboys because we
didn't think they rose to the level I thought it
would be against the Lions, which is a home one
of their home opponents. Commanders was another name that popped
up in Division number one. The NBC rarely does divisional
(32:51):
matchups in this opener, but the times that they have
done it before three previous times. Twice it's been with
the NFC East, and it's been with the the Giants
and the Cowboys in that scenario. But also, isn't there
a situation where the Cowboys stink? So if you put
this game in week fourteen that maybe egos Cowboys isn't
(33:12):
that good anymore. So I think that that could also
be a thinking of Aside from everything that you said,
which I fully agreed, Doug, I think that the NFL
also thinks, Man, if things go south in Dallas or
if that gets hurt again, this could have been one
of our money making games for Fox or whoever wanted
it later on in the season. But we're not sure
about Dallas, so let's just put them out of the
(33:34):
gate right away and catch that check. Agree, I think
that could be. That could be.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
I think that's yeah, it's a I think it's an
added benefit to it. I definitely think it's part of
the equation. Put them on Old in the year. It
doesn't matter if they you know, they stink lated in
the year, don't worry. Of course, Cowboys will still be
on Fox's NFL Game of the Week, and they can
move them off with the flexing of schedules what else.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Sure, but it'll be different if well, unless Joe Milton's
really great, you know, but I digress. Big deal, deal
or no deal that the Chargers home game against the
Chiefs will reportedly be played in Brazil in week one.
According to reports, You're Bolts losing a divisional home game
for the NFL's International love. Is that a big deal,
a little deal or no deal.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
I feel like it's a little deal because I'm I'm
gonna take a little swipe at my own team. You
probably have as many fans in Brazil as you do
with the Chiefs coming because when the Chiefs Kingdom comes
to LA And you know, part of it is people
have been passive Chiefs fans for a long time, but
you win a couple of Super Bowls, you get to
(34:36):
a couple others, and who isn't a Pat Mahomes and
a Chiefs fan. Point is, I don't know if the
Chargers lose all that much. I just don't. And other
part two it is, you know, for the NFL like
they want, it actually signifies that they think the Chargers
can be a marquee team. The fact that they even
(34:57):
get in on this game, you can look at it
as a positive. So don't think they'll lose that much
at home. Remember, every team has seventeen games, so that
means they have a ninth place, So they're still going
to have eight home games. And this is the price
of being in LA and they'll move you around and
they want you to be a part of it, and
there's some good things to it.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Big deal, little deal or no deal that Derek Carr
has decided to retire because of his injured shoulder.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Little deal. Yeah, I mean, I've never thought Derek Carr
is a great player. I think he's a really good dude.
He played terribly at times after the first two wins
of the season this year. I thought he struggled late
in his career with the Raiders. Good quarterback, good story,
(35:49):
right in some of the wrongs of his brother. Not
a great player, made a bunch of money, kept all
his faculties outside of his shoulder. Okay, the chief It
puts the same an even better position to get arch Manning.
Speaker 7 (36:03):
I have to give Dan credit on that. By the way,
months and months ago and over the last forty eight hours,
a lot of outlets have picked up on this angle
arch Manning Number one to the Saints home of Archie Manning.
Dan Byer had this like six months ago, like way
out in front of all these Johnny, come wait with us,
(36:24):
am I right?
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Dan? I did think it was an original thought at
the time, So I will say that see the future,
and that is game time.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
I see game This is game time. On The Doug
Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
My son was like, I'm waking everybody up, just you know,
nobody's everybody. Everybody's getting woken up, by the way, Stut
Gottleep show here on Fox Sports Radio. What did we
love from the sports weekend? Would we hate? We'll share
it with you next on The Doug Gotlieb Show.
