We have a love and hate up coming top of
next hour, and I have a list here and I
do have to prry it down. I mean, is my show.
(00:45):
So if I want to do the entire segment alone,
I can, but I usually, like you know, Nick Cope's
gonna be joining us, Dan Byer be joining us. Of course,
you got Jay s dou Iowa Sam. I'm sure they
have things to get. There's so much to love and
some things to hate this weekend, and we'll get to
that top of next hour. But I mean, if you
like sports, October it's got to be your month, right,
(01:08):
gotta be your month. Got litt preseason basketball just to
get you excited. Oh w in THEWN college football, unbelievable weekend,
NFL football, great weekend, and Major League Baseball's playoffs. Wow
wow yesterday in London. Now, our boss, Scott Shapiro is
a He's a Minnesota Minnesotian, miss Minnesota Ian Minnesotan, mina Sultan,
(01:34):
and he went to London. Check out the Vikes take
on the Jets. Now, Sam Donald was good, solid early,
but it was really more don't lose the game, did
have a pick, He was fine, they won. I think
the storyline is more Aaron Rodgers wasn't very good. And
it's not like this is week one. It's not like
we can say, well, you missed that thing in OTAs
(01:55):
and maybe yes and thrown to these guys and whatever,
like well, here's Aaron Rodgers on his own performance.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
See, I was blowing my standard. I just found out
I've never thrown two ficks in the first quarter before.
So that's the first one of us costs obviously seven,
and the other you know, could have cost three. So
in a game where you lose by six, you know,
plays like that are exponentially highlighted. So three turnouts for
me is definitely out of character. And I'm disappointed.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah, I'm Look, he owned it. There's nothing you can
do but own it. Some people don't want to. But
that's not the point. On the last drive when they
could have won the game, he overthrew a wide receiver
by a good five yards. And I don't know if
he's washed or what was going on. I will tell
you that this is actually kind of a reasonable thing,
(02:45):
not just because his age are coming out the injury,
because of both. And if you guys remember Jason Kidd's
last year playing in the NBA, Jason gets a Hall
of Famer, one of the great point guards in the
history league. His last year he was playing with the
with the New York Knicks, and they went to the
playoffs and suddenly he could make a layup, not a layup.
(03:06):
When it goes like it's gone, it's gone. And the
difference between Aaron and Kirk Cousins, I think it's twofold one. Look,
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sit here and tell
you Aaron doesn't work because I don't think. I don't
think that's the case. I don't. I think he worked
diligently to try and get back last year. I think
(03:29):
you worked to repair himself. But the first part of
it is, hey, look, if we're just being honest, football
is not his only thing anymore. It's just it's not
his only thing. And you can get away with it
a little bit when you're younger. You can't when you're older.
And remember he did miss time with OTAs And look,
(03:53):
there's a relationship piece in terms and leadership piece with
the players, but there's also you got to work through
throwing with different movement than you had previously, got to
get used to that, to have to have to have to.
And then the other piece to it is not only
is football not his only thing anymore? Maybe it never was,
(04:16):
but what made Aaron special is not just the accuracy
and arm strength and intelligence. It's that he could move,
really move and yeah, some of it was running, but
a lot of it was in and around the pocket
and throwing it awkward angles, whatever, just great movement. That
changes when you tear your achilles stendon. It just does.
(04:39):
He doesn't look like facially, he looks young and fresh.
His body doesn't look bad. It's not like he's put
on weight. The ball doesn't call him off. But man,
all of a sudden, a guy who never turned it
over turns it over. Guy who is the peak of
accuracy can be inaccurate. I had we had a i'll
(05:03):
just say, a really nice luxury foreign suv, one of
the one of the companies that you count on to
always say to cars never break down. So but it
was a luxury brand one. And that's when the kids
were little, and you know, we got the extended warranty,
you got to one hundred thousand mile warranty whatever for
the power train and transmission. And I'm telling you, we
(05:25):
got to one oh five and the transmission went, and
there's some engine stuff, and I had a car dealer
pulled me aside, like, look, these guys, these things are
incredibly well made. But no matter how well made it is,
you get a one hundred thousand miles on a on a
gas gas engine, like, things are going to start to go.
That's exactly what happened. We've we've become so accepting of
(05:53):
a new reality that you can play into your forties,
you realize it's really hard. It takes a very unique player.
And oh yeah, by the way, Tom Brady played in
his forties, but athleticism was never his thing, never his thing.
Kirk Cousin's on his forties, but coming off the same
injury one, he's not as old two. Athleticism is never
(06:15):
his thing. Athleticism has been Aaron Rodgers thing, and he
I don't know if it's a movement thing, a timing thing.
And then you know what happens to you start overcompensating,
not just with throws where you get rid of it
a little bit earlier because you don't want to get hit,
so you got to adjust and guys get rid of it
earlier than they ever used to. And then there's the
(06:37):
confidence element of it and other people's confidence in you.
And just what a disaster trip for the Jets where
Aaron Rodgers suddenly looks old. Here's Robert Salah on the
Jets run game.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Those are things we got to continue to work on.
The run games clearly not good enough.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
You know, felt like coming out of training camp is
going to be a strength for us, and then obviously
it hasn't been.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Knowing no sir, and look, you rebuild your offensive line.
This is sometimes what looks like when Aaron Rodgers doesn't
get all his reps. This is what it looks like
when you got an older quarterback. This is what it
looks like. And oh yeah, by the way, did you
see Aaron Rodgers signaling to the sideline to get the
plays in sooner? That's Nathaniel Hackett. If you're if you're
(07:17):
a Bronco fan, you know exactly what that's like.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug

They help hire your next pro. Forget about posting jobs
and sifting through resumes interviewed with unqualified applicants, move up
to the pros goodexpresspros dot Com to find location near you.
That's expressed pros dot come man. A lot of different
things going on. Did you, Jay Stu, what was your
like Sunday night? Obviously you're watching the Dodger game, right
(08:15):
and it got away from him. They end up losing.
Tended to what was your not motivation, but what was
your energy level? One Sunday night football was on and
then it got it got delayed.
Speaker 6 (08:27):
It kind of worked out for us, didn't it on
the West Coast anyways? Because the Dodger game ended and
then like the real interesting part of the Cowboys steer started.
It was always on my split screen, you know, the
YouTube TV split screen there, but it looked like just
a dog of a game for the first three quarter,
so it was almost like the end of the Dodgers
(08:48):
game and then into a decent fourth quarter of the
Cowboys game. I had a lot of energy for that.
You know, we have fantasy interests, you know, gambling interest
and I always root against Dak Proscott. I know he's
a good guy, but I like rooting against him, so
I was kind of disappointed that he made that completion.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
At the end.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Why do you root against him so much?
Speaker 6 (09:12):
I don't know, if it's because he's tied to the Cowboys,
maybe that's just if he's losing there losing and that's
a good feeling. But there's also just something about him
that's a little off. He's a little too polished for.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Oh, there's no question there, right, Yeah, he's not polished
to a level of a preacher. But there is something
that we're like, wait, what is going on here? Right,
there's a couple of really bad throws. I think that
I think the story of that game is that Pittsburgh
(09:45):
couldn't take advantage that that. And you can't sit here
and tell me, Dallas the defense is so great and
just I've told you guys before, Justin Field is fine.
He's not great. He's not good, and he's definitely not great.
And the rec was not indicative of a guy who's
killing it. And you know, they just they can't put
(10:05):
you away, even when you shot yourself on the foot
the way that the where the Cowboys did where the
Cowboys did. So you know, here here's Dak Prescott talking
about the game winning touchdown pass.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
We had to play call that we love.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
We're very confident in regardless of the defense off of
the line did a great job.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Tober came over to the left, just how to make
the throw.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Here's Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, summing
up the loss.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
You know, I just told the team there's a fine
line between drinking wine and squashing grapes in our business.
And you know that's an example of it. You know
that ball is on the ground right there in the
red area, and that's the difference.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Had you ever had you ever heard that before?
Speaker 6 (10:56):
Never heard that. I have a feeling he made that up.
But I can't not think about when you talk about
squshing grapes, I can't think of can't help but think
of that great YouTube clip about the grape Lady, one
of the Alzheimer's on live TV, crushing grapes with her
feet and she falls.
Speaker 8 (11:18):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
Some of some of the greatest, one of the greatest
viral videos of all time, one of the originals too.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Yeah, what Lucille ball, No.
Speaker 6 (11:27):
No, no, this was a This was like, I don't know,
she's like a field report. Fifteen years ago. It was
live morning TV and there were crushing grapes a little demonstration. Yeah,
and a woman was up on a kind of a lift,
a table, platform, yeah, platform a little overweight, which probably
didn't help matters, and uh yeah she fell and the
rest is just hilarious.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
I don't think her way.
Speaker 9 (11:49):
I think she slowed down and then she started crushing
with her feet really fast and she clipped her foot
on like the side of the bin and fell out
of the bin.
Speaker 10 (11:58):
And I don't think her weight, whatever it was, was
the reason why. I think that was just an added
comment by Jason. But it was the moaning or the
groaning yeah at the end, that makes it for me
tough to watch.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
I just I can't imagine how awful that was. She
knocked the wind out of herself.
Speaker 9 (12:20):
That's what it sounded like, the way she was groaning.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
That's sure. Just Dan Byers is just a better person
than me. It's really good. It comes down to because Jace,
do what was your reaction.
Speaker 6 (12:32):
To the great plady?
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (12:34):
No, no, I think it's hilarious because you know, you
have the anchors back in the studio trying to hold
back laughter. So it's one of those deals you know.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
No, I know, but but Dan had great empathy for her,
and you and I did not.
Speaker 6 (12:49):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
That's one of the funniest things.
Speaker 10 (12:52):
Back in my long broadcasting career. I was a field
reporter at at one time.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Okay, so is there a is there a video clip
that you're happy has not been brought up, has not
been brought to life where you were crushing grapes.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
No.
Speaker 10 (13:08):
I did have the bob for apples once and I
could not get one. So I just said, like, you know,
screw it and put my entire head in the water
and then realize that that didn't even work. But that's
about it as far as it goes. Bobbing for apples
not as easy as it looks.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
I can't remember last time bob for apples.
Speaker 10 (13:31):
I only did it once, and honestly, it was for
the story, that's all it was. I wouldn't do it recreationally.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
You know, we should probably do. I mean, look, this
may be a little cheesy, and I don't know if
it works audio wise. I think it does. We got
to come up with some creative Halloween sports Halloween costumes
twenty twenty four, Okay, right, Like, I don't know if
you can do conference realignment. I don't know if you
(13:58):
can do something about the w something about the w
NBA is pretty easy, right, Like you could beat Kaitlyn
Clark and other people. If you're a woman, you could
be Kaitlyn Clark and no one else wants to be
around you. Who's a WNBA player? That would be funny,
I'll tell you.
Speaker 10 (14:10):
It's a timely Kaitlyn Clark reference, not because the WNBA playoffs,
but because on today's episode of The Price Is Right,
they were giving away a Papa shot and one of
the models was like nailing, like she's doing really well.
Andrew Carry goes Jesus like, we've got Caitlyn Clark here.
So she's even crossed over to the game show.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Wow, yeah, well I love it.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
They had in in O'Hare they have a plinko game
for like in between flights you can go and win
stuff like in a plinko, and all I could think
of his Price is Right. It was amazing.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
It's like, man, I bet somebody in The Price Is Right.
Audience was pissed off that he didn't use Angel Reese
as the example.
Speaker 10 (15:00):
They have those on Papa Rebound. That's what it's a
rebounding game.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
To keep throwing at the backboard and keep going to
get it to the backboards.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Of fimble, you just get rebounds.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
That's the voice of Dan Bayer. He does give really
good fantasy advice. You gotta check out his podcast. Let's
let's get his update on what else going sports.
Speaker 10 (15:19):
Yeah, Doug, I will say five and oh on the
gamblers so far this year on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Cardinals brought it home for me on Friday.
Speaker 10 (15:28):
I think the j STU team parlay hits as well.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
One of two I thought.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
I forget which one was, but I'll get back to you.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Okay, all right, maybe it was Houston TCU.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
But mine was Oklahoma State overs.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (15:43):
I didn't want to say, Sam, don't don't take my
gambling advice ever.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Stuck Gottlieb Show Here on Fox Sports Radio, John Middlecoff
is our guest. Threing out is the podcast. Gosh, John,
there's so much to get to. I man, I don't
even know where to start. Let's let's start with the Eagles,
I believe it or not, I actually want to start
with Eagles. You know it's interesting. Well, I'll watched the
(16:09):
Giants go and beat Seattle, and our knee jerk reaction
was no Saquon Barkley, Danny dime stinks whatever, And I
don't know how good the Giants are, But then you know,
you think you add a Saquon Barkley to the Eagles
and man, they're gonna be really, really good, and they're
still just kind of average. How much of it comes
down to Jalen's just not that good.
Speaker 8 (16:30):
Yeah, I mean one thing with the Giants, you really
remove that first game, which I'd say aged pretty well
because Minnesota is undefeated, you know, beside a little bit
of a bumpy road over in London. They have been
excellent all season long. The quarterback has been dramatically better.
I mean, he was good yesterday.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
I thought he was pretty solid against the Cowboys.
Speaker 8 (16:51):
He's always gonna miss some of those deep shots. He
just he was. He threw a couple of touchdowns against Washington,
the Milik Dabers.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
He didn't have heard the nighbors yesterday.
Speaker 8 (16:59):
So I think when you look at the Eagles, and
I just think when you look at that division, you
know one thing that they've benefited from the Eagles, and
I would throw the Cowboys here too, is Washington. For
the most part in my adult life, that suck. And
the Giants now had like a ten year run of
being really bad. Well, if they are just competitive and
(17:21):
now Dave Ball's calling the play. I'd never had a
problem with them letting Saquon go because I actually think
he probably makes more sense on the Eagles, and you're
not talking that much money. It was more about the
way it was filmed, and it looked like so haphazard.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
Of like what are we doing now?
Speaker 8 (17:37):
Like this is not really how free agency works, at
least in my experience, but like, yeah, I mean, if
you're a Giants fan, I think you removed that first
game just year has been pretty successful. Just the toughness
the quarterbacks, Like who's playing better right now?
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Daniel Jones or Jalen Hurst.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
I think Daniel Jones is well.
Speaker 8 (17:56):
Jalen's the worst quarterback in the conference or excudent in
the division right now.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Because you see Dak, I mean, Dak.
Speaker 8 (18:02):
Still throw some of these picks. You're like, how are
you doing this? But he he's kind of got this
Eli thing without the rings of you can watch a
drive and you're like, God, this guy is like the
first bout Hall of Famer in this next throw could
be something that Deshaun Watson would do.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
I said, on the podcast last night. I think Dak
and this is where.
Speaker 8 (18:22):
I think Eli fell In too has to be one
of the more bizarre players of all time, because he's
definitely good, but he also does things that are so bad.
I mean the pick he threw last night, I mean
the red zone one he hit the guy and.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
Stride and the deep ball.
Speaker 8 (18:40):
It was like, what do we why are you doing
this right here?
Speaker 4 (18:43):
This is that they can't score.
Speaker 8 (18:44):
Let's just you can decondunc them to death and win
the game. So it's like, I don't know, that's why
it's hard to trust the Cowboys. But I thought that
was a pretty gritty win last night.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
I can't believe what the Bengals did when they got
that turnover and overtime and then they got super conservative
and played for a fifty three yard field goal and
granted that the holder was what screwed it up, but
I mean, you got a quarterback who's throwing five touchdown
passes and the Ravens defense is not nearly what its
reputation would tell you it is. I was conservative, they
(19:16):
got it.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
That was what was crazy.
Speaker 8 (19:19):
I guess I didn't see it, but someone linked me
in like a social media post who I think Zach
Taylor said. One of them was called a pass and
Joe checked into the run, which again over the course
of three plays. If it happens once, no big deal.
But you're in three chartstraight times, so you can't tell
me there can be a call into his headset like
this was passing. Only that'd be like Stephan Clay in
(19:41):
their heyday, you know, is eleven or thirteen and you
need a game winning shot and you like, go into
the post. But what do you guys doing here? I
mean you have when he's playing like that. Burrows easily
one of the best players in the league. Both the
wide receivers were humming. You're at home pedal to the medal.
There's no guarantee I would get it. If you're at
(20:03):
the twenty, you know, I would say like a thirty
five ish field goaling in where you're like, okay, what
are we doing here? But they were pretty far away, like, guys,
I mean, you got a couple of PFLs here.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
All of a sudden you're.
Speaker 8 (20:15):
Looking at like a fifty eight yard field goal and
obviously the guy I mean, how often do you see
a punter or whoever the holder is legitimately just drop
the ball right if he's about to place it. I
don't think I've seen.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
It, like twice a year it happens, and that one
happened in a game.
Speaker 8 (20:31):
When you feel going over time, Yeah, drop, It was
a drop, but then he was able to get it
up enough. But clearly because at first you're like, god,
you really missed it that bad, and then it was
I think it's pretty understandable when you watch the exchange.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Right, was it the Cardinals or the Niners? Cardinals come
from behind and get a big win. How much was
what's the bigger store, what's the bigger angle to it?
Speaker 8 (20:54):
Well, the Niners were up thirty points in the second half,
and I get the kicker, try to make a tackle,
rolls angle so you don't have a kicker. There are
no excuses. Now Kyler plays well against them. You know,
you can watch him on certain weeks where you're just
like Kyler any good if you watch him against the Niners.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Over the course of his career, he.
Speaker 8 (21:14):
Has and he made some, i mean just incredible plays.
Yesterday obviously sets the tone early with the run, It's like, okay,
they got down seven to nothing, and then all of
a sudden they're up multiple scores, so bad in the
red zone right now, I think they were one of six.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
He does they block the field goal for a touchdown.
If I told you to start the game, it's like
they're going to block a field goal for a TV Nick.
Speaker 8 (21:37):
Vosa on a separate play is going to get an interception,
and the Niners are up double digits in the in
the fourth quarter, He's like, what's the score forty to twelve?
I mean, but they fumble party throws? What I like
Frock and I am a supporter of them. You know,
you and I have talked about this over like I
(21:59):
probably am, or they're on Like he's a really good player.
But one thing he's kind of getting into the mold
of doing, and he did it a couple of times yesterday,
is like and it works a lot for him, but
instead of just like one, two, three, let it rip
to George or Debo or whatever, he's like doing these
three sixties and run around and a couple and sometimes
he makes incredible plays.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
But yet to say, a couple.
Speaker 8 (22:20):
Of times he like took us back.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
It's like, I can't imagine.
Speaker 8 (22:24):
Even Tom Brady is kind of coming into his own.
Tom was like, yeah, I mean he can't hold the
ball elevens. I mean, this is not this is not
what are we doing here? And the final interception, he's
patting the ball and George Kittles opened, you know, fifteen
feet away. Well, what are the best quarterbacks? Let's use
(22:45):
a guy calling the game. He throws it right to
George once he sees the guy's cover. But Brock is
a little bit of a gunplinger. Then all of a
sudden their offensive line becauide. Trent Williams not great. He
gets hit, ball goes up in the air and games
Bob and I think some of it is he's getting
cocky is probably the wrong way.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
To put it.
Speaker 8 (23:02):
But he's getting pretty confident that he can scramble around.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
I think it throws off.
Speaker 8 (23:06):
I mean the whole offense is predicated on timing with Kyle,
so there's a little out of whack even though he's
playing pretty well. But like that's the reason were last
year they would have won that game.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
You know, now.
Speaker 8 (23:18):
McCaffrey losing him, but their running back are good. I mean,
he he was the leading rust for coming in and
he just watched him. I mean he's he's just a
top good running back in the NFL. He's a legitimate start.
So that's that's the not the May issue.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
So I said, there's two things, a couple of things
that Aaron Rodgers. First thing is I old, yeah, yeah,
and he's coming off an injury. And remember of the
things that made Aaron Rodgers one of the greatest throwers
to the football ever, his movement was part of it, right,
big part. But I also think that and this is
(23:54):
it'll sound like a negative, and I'm not saying he
doesn't care, but football is not the only thing in
his life, and the amount of reps it takes when
you're you're a completely different athlete coming off an injury
like that, and you know, like, look, if you miss
OTAs or you missed some camp because you have a
(24:14):
pre planned trip to Egypt, you're probably not throwing a
football in that pre plan trip to Egypt, right, You're
definitely not throwing to your teammates. And my point is
not just about the connection with the teammates, but about
you're different now when you're in your forties, your arm
strength is different. When you're playing on a surgery gar
piered leg, your your you know your arm talent is different, Like,
(24:35):
I think there's more more than just one factor. But
here's the question, is he washed.
Speaker 8 (24:42):
Well, I definitely think he's a shell of what the
verses that we just saw a couple of years ago
that won an MVP. I mean that year they lost
to Tom Brady in the NFCU Championship game. It felt
like they were shoeing to win it all because of
just his comp Like he had mastered the position those
couple of years MVP and he was still moving around
his arm strength obviously, him and DeVante had like Gronkowski,
(25:06):
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison. It was just an
elite combo. And I think you bring up a good point.
Let's face it, when you just have more physical gifts,
you can get away with some stuff that other guys
can't if you look at as too close as peers,
you know, during his peeks up his powers would be
Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, they never, at one point
(25:28):
in time in their professional lives could get away without like, yeah,
we need about fifteen extra reps of thron me or
I need to double the time on like footwork fundamentals. Well,
Aaron's footwork's always been kind of hit or miss because
it didn't really.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Who cares, But he got away with it.
Speaker 8 (25:45):
He's like, that's of all the great quarterbacks besides for
most guys where I would say relatively fundamentally saund And
now you watch him, he still likes to fling it
off his back foot.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Don't blame him. That's just what he knows.
Speaker 8 (26:00):
He's not changing at this point in time.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Right.
Speaker 8 (26:02):
The dogs not going to start listening to you at
ten years old if it didn't listen to you when
it was, you know, early on in its life. So
it's kind of is what it is.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
And even if you remove like the.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
Individual plays, if you just went right now as a player,
and if you just went around the NFL, like I
still thought, he'd probably be like I don't know, somewhere
between like seven and ten. Like I just don't think
he's a top ten quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Now.
Speaker 8 (26:29):
He could still on an individual throat look sweet. But
like the totality of a game like you saw yesterday,
it's like, hey.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Minnesota, Sam, he's a little lost today.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
This is a game and Aaron I'm not even talking
about like in the peak of his powers, and with
McCarthy in the two thousand pounds, I'm talking like three
years ago, would have been like I got his voice,
let's let's make some stuff happen, and that Aaron Rodgers,
thirty seven year old guy pre Achilles, would have won
that game and he just can't now Now. Part of
it is, you know, Lafleur and McCarthy are just way better.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Than that Salla. I mean just it just feels a
little weird. But their defense is playing well.
Speaker 8 (27:04):
Yesterday I just looked and he looks. I mean, he's
getting tempered, he's he's grimacing, and there was that one
play where he got snapped back. I mean at first
you're like, oh, oh my god, he just tears me.
Is how his career is going to end? But it
does feel like, if you're a betting man right now,
his career is more likely to end on something just
like remember when Aaron got carted off the second year
(27:26):
in a row and it just kind of ended.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
Then it feels like.
Speaker 8 (27:28):
Oh, remember when he kind of led them back to
ten wins and they ended up not winning a playoff game,
but he got into the wild Guard and they had
that fun game in the second week of January, like
that feels a little less likely when you watch in
the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
What happened to Josh Allen yesterday?
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Well, he was bad.
Speaker 8 (27:45):
I mean, he just I think that's one of the
worst games he's played since he.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Like after his rookie year.
Speaker 8 (27:51):
You know, I had the volume on the Ravens game,
but I was kept looking over and I saw the
replay of when he got you know, slammed of the ground.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Because I saw him get slamed the ground, I.
Speaker 8 (28:02):
Thought he just went to the blue ten, you know,
maybe shoulder or something. I mean, it kind of looks
like he's KOed.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
I mean, it looks like he was out.
Speaker 8 (28:09):
And obviously they put him back in and then Sean
mcdermot's calling those throws you know, pinned up, which is
just insane. Right, You just your quarterback, even if you
didn't quite realize, because it's not like everyone sees everything,
you didn't quite realize that he's got some issues and
got slammed in the grounds. He had legitimately been having
an awful game, and you'd have to go like sixty
(28:32):
plus yards. You're not exactly the most explosive offense in
terms of speed right now in like twenty seconds, so
not running it three times. But me and Coward talked
about this. You can crush you on all you want,
and it's it's a very easy thing to be critical of.
There is no guarantee to me if they go to overtime,
I still would have to yeah it. Bill's probably lose
(28:52):
this game because.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
Tried to hand him the game.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
He threw a bad pick, He had a fumble that's
in the fourth quarter. You know, Nico Collins, who looks
like Mike Evans meets Cherry Rice right now, get injured.
That threw their offense off.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
They lost some dbs.
Speaker 8 (29:07):
Jimmy Ward got hurt during the game, and it's like
the Bills, what's going on here?
Speaker 4 (29:12):
But then you look at the stats sheet and it
kind of masses the eyes, Like God, Josh wasn't completing
many passes.
Speaker 8 (29:17):
Now, they did have a couple of weird drops, but
they just that team we saw the first three weeks.
They got at to Mojo and got it Coggnith and
all starts with Josh. When he's on, they're good, but
Conn when he's off. They feel like a basketball team
that has one guy, and if he has a bad
shooting night, they could get smoking ast anybody.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
I know they didn't win, okay, but he took the
Browns to the playoffs last year and they go from
a team that can't move the ball at all. And
granted's Jacksonville. Jacksonville's not great. But what's your feelings watching
Flaco play quarterback?
Speaker 8 (29:51):
Well, I think he's the best quarterback on two teams.
He's obviously still the Browns quarterback, which they weren't allowed
to even offer a contract because they didn't want to
make the Shawn mad which thinks about how that sounds.
You know, six months later, he's clearly the best quarterback
on Andy. I mean that was a game that you know,
indy early on. I think with Anthony Richardson, more than
likely they get blown out in that game. Flacco has
(30:15):
looked He didn't look like that in the last couple
of years. Like posts the Raven, remember that last Raven
season that started falling apart, they started bouncing around. Maybe
it was just a little of he got to take
a deep breath and he just gets to play free.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
I mean, he's always of not giving a bleep.
Speaker 8 (30:33):
Yeah, and just like he didn't give a bleep that much,
but maybe as you kind of look the end of
your career in the eye, and he started pressing a
little bit and he looks I mean, he's again we
have a two game sample size, but we have last
year too. He's been I don't know what, top ten
twelve quarterback in the NFL over the last whatever eight
(30:54):
weeks of the season with Cleveland and now these couple games.
Like he's just a good players, not.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Really debatable good. It's great.
Speaker 8 (31:01):
I mean, he never really was, but he kind of
just looks like the way he looked when he was
good for the RAM, doesn't he he does?
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Who you like tonight? Saints Chiefs, Chiefs still in need
of some wide receiving help.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
Yeah, tonight it feels like a game I could see
the Saints winning. I just think the Chiefs, you've just
played enough of these games.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
You're just bound to lose one. It's very hard for
them to score.
Speaker 8 (31:24):
I think the Saints defense is pretty good.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
The wild card always is you know how Derek gonna
play right?
Speaker 8 (31:30):
Because sometimes in big games, but he does have a
lot of comfort, like playing for the Raiders forever, He's
probably played the Chiefs, what seven eight times minimum in
Kansas City. He's played some Monday night football games against
them with the Raiders, so it's not like an uncommon
It's not like he looks at the Chiefs like the
ninety six Bulls, even though they beat him a lot.
I'm just saying like from a comfort level playing in
(31:51):
the stadium, and I do think they've played pretty good.
I mean they easily could be. I guess the Eagles
had a pretty good game plan against them, but they
probably should have won that Falcon game.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
And Piks thanks.
Speaker 1 (32:03):

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Doug gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, Coming to you from
the tyrack dot Com studios. Welcome in on a Monday.
We got love and hate from the weekend upcoming top
of the hour, but at the back end of this
hour we turned the Dan Byron play game.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show, Danny B.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
What do you got, my man, Doug?
Speaker 5 (32:47):
The game today is big deal, little deal, no deal.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Big deal, little deal or no deal.
Speaker 10 (32:53):
That Joe Flacco was great in a loss for the
Colts yesterday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
I think it's a big deal. I mean, I understand
that the veteran quarterback is always going to look better
than the young quarterback, but like we're to the point
now where Shane Steichen is a big time play caller,
and like you're Shane Stikeen and you're a couple of
years into your first head coaching job. You gotta be
sitting there going like what am I doing? One guy
gives me a legit chance to win games. The other guy,
(33:22):
you know, I can't stay healthy. You know you struggle
to run him because you feel like he's gonna get hurt,
but running him is probably his best attribute. I think
it's a big deal.
Speaker 10 (33:33):
I think they should maybe do the Jordan Love treatment
with Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
I think that you could can you do that now
after he started parts of two years.
Speaker 10 (33:43):
Well, I think what you can do is because of
the veteran play that you've got this is not the
second straight year that the veteran has come in for
an injured quarterback and has taken over and the team
is performed better. Sure, So I think you just try
to squeeze as much as you can out of Joe Flacco.
(34:04):
To that part, I think you should continue to be
their starter, and Doug, as you always point out, with quarterbacks,
teams have their control for a.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
Lot longer than people think.
Speaker 10 (34:14):
And if you have Anthony Richardson, you have another three
years to figure this out for a guy who didn't
play a lot of football at his career coming into
the pros. So I don't think it's the worst thing
in the world. I don't think you're giving up on
Anthony richards And I think you're just giving your team
a better chance to win football games right now by
going with Joe Flacco. And by the way, Joe Flacco
(34:35):
likes to throw interceptions, so that could be down the
line as well. But if he's playing like this right now,
he throws for three hundred and fifty nine yards in
three touchdowns, I don't know how you can keep him
off the field. All right, big deal, little dealer, no deal.
That's Stefan Diggs and Josh Allen had a short handshaken,
half hug after yesterday's game in Houston, and maybe even
(34:57):
a little side eye from one Stephan Day.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Is that a big deal, a little deal or no deal?
Speaker 1 (35:02):
A little deal, little deal. I don't think we're I mean,
Josh Allen can say that it had nothing to do
with Stefan Diggs and the diva attitude, but we all
feel like it's different. Also, the off the field news
about Stefan Diggs hasn't been great over the last twenty
four hours either. But I think it's a little deal.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Is this the CARDI B stuff? Is that what?
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (35:28):
Well, I will say I was expecting more of an
embrace from the two and we didn't get it.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
I think that said a lot, big deal, a little
dealer The deal does.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Yeah, but it's also listen, we're also only a couple
of games in that embraces. It feels like if this
this game happens next year, there'll be more of an embrace.
Speaker 10 (35:43):
Big deal, little deal or no deal. How good Denver
looked in the nineteen seventy seven throwback.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
I thought of you the whole time. I thought of
you the entire time and that's like, please don't take
anybody take it any different than it was intended. Okay,
Dan Buyer is our resident uniform critic, and he is
world acclaimed. Like literally anytime there's a uniform change, like
how much whatever? Those were?
Speaker 10 (36:09):
Yes, yeahs were awful. Huh you have to be able
to see the numbers.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
I mean so terrible. Yeah, who approve that? I don't know.
You couldn't tell what who was who?
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Just that you also couldn't do the tail the Houston Texans.
That's the other part to it. Yes, right, it's like
I don't know who's who and I don't know that
the Houston Texans other than that, you know, they look
like a futuristic jersey.
Speaker 10 (36:33):
I use this analogy on the Broncos. I said, it's
like McDonald's with the McRib in shamrock shake. That's how
they're treating the throwback uniforms. They're not going to go
to them full time because they know in the limited
time that they're there, people are going to go crazy.
People are going to buy the current stuff, but they're
also going to buy the throwbacks just as much. And
(36:54):
if you replace the throwbacks with the current uniforms, people
probably aren't going to buy as much because you have
few were options. So I think I think the NFL
is happy with how popular the throwbacks are, but are
not willing to allow teams to actually go to those
full time. All right, final one big deal, little deal
or no deal. That USC was upset at Minnesota on
(37:17):
Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
It feels like a little deal. A controversial call at
the end of the game. You know, USC did move
the ball up and down the field, but couldn't couldn't score.
I just think, like we look at these as upsets,
and they're really not as big as upsets, not just
personnel wise, travel wise, New League wise, Like it just
feels like a little deal, doesn't feel like a huge deal.
(37:39):
And then Vanderbilt winning huge deal, Minnesota beating USC not
a huge deal.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
That's game time.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
Game, This is game time. On The Doug Gottlieb Show, I.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Don't know if you guys saw the tracker of the goalpost.
It was amazing what happened in Nashville. Come up next,
What we love from the weekend? What do we hey
find out? Next to The Doug gottlib Show,
