(00:28):
a great day. The Doug Gottlieb Show broadcast live every
single day, same bad time, same bad channel. Uh what
should we talk about? Hey, guys, you want to talk
some baseball? Kyles Shworber hitting four home runs last night?
Going to do that? Or we could talk some hoops? Right,
(00:52):
we talked some college football after last night. Whatever do
you guys want to talk about? Oh? I know Micah Parsons.
So Micah Parsons is a Green Bay packer. And let
me just let me just give you a little insight into
my life. Right, I know a lot of people, That's inarguable.
(01:16):
I think most people you get to our age and
you know a lot of people. Now, I know a
lot of people in sports and in entertainment, none of
this is new information, right, none of it is new information.
But I do know a lot of people in sports.
I do know a lot of people that are influential
(01:37):
in sports, especially in the sport of football. And so
what happened was two days ago John Cood, who works
in State in radio, tweeted out Micah frickin' Parsons. So
people lost their mind and they came to me because
they think, well, you know everything. I am not an
(01:59):
NFL insider. I don't purport to be. It didn't make
any sense to me at all, right that the Cowboys
wouldn't just sit tight and go, hey, if we can't
come to an agreement, you play this year, then you
become a free agent next year, knowing you can franchise tag.
That was my thoughts. I was wrong. So maybe we
(02:21):
need an explanation why, by many people's estimation, the best
defensive player in football was traded a week and a
half before the season was going to begin. Here's Jerry Jones,
owner the Cowboys, explaining why the deal was made.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
But we have the highest paid player in the NFL
at quarterback, and we made that commitment last year and
we're proud we made it and had everything to do
with this decision. Everything it is give us every opportunity
with Dak Press Good and Lamb and the base that
we've got to win now. This gives us a better
(02:59):
chance ants to be a better team than we have
been the last few several years since Michael has been here.
Not any negative on Michael, but we're trying to get better.
We're trying to stop the run and stay in the hunt.
I am very excited about very excited beyond any consideration
(03:23):
of a regret of the consideration that we got in
this trade and have the player. I'm very excited about that.
It is more in keeping within my mind what's in
the best interests of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
So it's all that wording is really interesting, right, What
does it all mean? What does it all mean? First,
let me take it to Jeene Slater. She's the NFL
network reporter on the Cowboys. She's still a podcast on
the Cowboys as well, so she's dialed in there. She
had this to say on the Herd in regards to
(03:59):
Michael Parsons and how he was, how he was perceived
in in the Cowboys locker room.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
The truth of it is the building one here. Starting
about two years ago, we started hearing frustrations within the
locker room. And when I say frustrations, I don't want
to sit here and say that Micah Parsons is a
problem player. He certainly doesn't have problems off the field.
It's more of In talking to former coaches, one of
(04:28):
the concerns was does he love football or he does
he love the idea of being a football player that
gets the accolades, then gets the camera and the podcast.
And there would be frustration when they were in meeting
rooms and he would drift in and out. I would
describe it as just a real he needs a coaching
(04:50):
staff that's really going to dive in and invest in him.
We saw that with Dan Quinn. We saw Mike Zimmer
sort of buy in as much as he could, you know,
last year. But he's that type of player that just
requires a lot of buy in and attention. And I
think it started to wear on the locker room. Let
(05:10):
me change that. I know it were on the locker
room because in talking to previous coaching staffs in exit interviews,
there were a number of players who came to them
and said, we have to do something about Mike.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
We have to do something about Micah was actually that
was actually uttered. So in some ways this is about culture,
which is honestly the same reason that the MAVs moved
off of move off to Luka Dongic. I think the
problem with it becoming about culture is that if he
(05:46):
was this big of a problem, if his problems outweighed
his production, then why did you offer him a five
year contract worth forty million dollars per year. Again, we
can get into how everything went sideways. We can get
into the fact that Jerry tried to negotiate without the agent,
and it would allow me to speculate, Hey, I don't know,
(06:08):
maybe maybe Jerry got ticked because Parsons was a bad
actor in this deal. And I don't mean that he
was a poor actor. I mean he's a bad actor
from the standpoint of he started the negotiations without his agent,
then when the negotiations got came to a head, then
he ran back to his agents like, hey, they're trying
to negotiate without me. I don't know. That's a possibility.
(06:30):
What doesn't make sense about the Cowboys about what Jane
Slater's saying, and I'm not saying in any way that
what Jane Slayer's saying is not accurate. But the idea
that the Cowboys moving off of Micah Parsons makes them
a better team because he was killing their culture, because
he's not truly invested in being a great football player,
just being a Micah Parsons big personality. That sounds great.
(06:51):
Why ya from forty million dollars guaranteed per year? Why
did you come to an agreement that hasn't been in
for me? But I can tell you from a Green Bay,
Wisconsant perspective, does the idea of him needing a podcast,
needing attention, wanted to get likes? Does that should that
(07:12):
be troublesome? Yeah, it doesn't fit with how the how
the Packers role doesn't fit without the Packers role. But
the argument the Packers can make, whether it works long
term or not, is, hey, you're making forty seven million
a year, now, you don't need a podcast. I do
think a good young locker room, Actually, an older locker
room is probably the best place for that type of act,
(07:34):
a younger locker room. It can go either way. But
the part of the argument that doesn't make sense from
the Cowboys perspective is I hear it. I get it.
He had a podcast he you know. The messaging is,
I don't know if he loves football as much as
just loves the benefits of being a football player. That is,
(07:54):
Those are keywords for coaches to hear, because you want
somebody who loves what they do, you love what you do,
then you don't have to worry about him quitting on
a fourth down play when all is for not football
guys like guys that want to play football that are
grinders that love playing football. Basketball, same thing, baseball, same
thing we talk about all the time. You have to
(08:16):
have guys that love it and not everybody's gotta love it.
But at his position, at his price tag, he's gotta
love it. I get it. But I'm struggling with the
If he drove everybody so crazy, why did they offer
him such a big deal? Then come to an agreement
on the deal. If you didn't want him and you
(08:39):
wanted this to play out as such, you could have
moved him, or you could have gotten as much out
of him as you wanted this year. Make him play
under that contract final If he doesn't play play hardball instead,
you bailed. You got a really good player. You got
two picks, But it doesn't make sense in terms of
how they handled everything. I get it, Micah Parsons is
(09:02):
this new generation. It's no different than in baseball, guys
that like the callac around the bass pass, guys that
handle things different. The old guard doesn't like it, and
eventually the new guard becomes the old guard, and they
don't like it either. And I don't know what happens
with his podcast or the podcast, or if he tones
it down a notch or tones it down to notches.
I don't know. What I do know is that the
(09:23):
Cowboys up until very recently desperately wanted him to return,
and we're willing to make him the highest paid non
quarterback in the league. That to me, does not scream
of a guy who they're concerned about what he does
for their culture. Now, if you're if you're if Jerry
Jones is forget what he's saying. What he's thinking is
(09:45):
this allows us to load up for next year. And
by you know, by paying Clark, you know, pennies in
comparison to what you would have had to pay Micah,
we save money, we get more draft picks, We load
up on talent. That all sound own is great, but
don't tell me your aims are to be competitive when
you lose the best defensive player in the division, maybe
(10:07):
the best defensive player in the NFL, and you replace
them with the good player nine years in nothing and
a guy who lacked the pass rushing that Micah Parsons had.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
It's The Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Mark
Dominic stuff coming in about five minutes, So I think
I can answer this question pretty easily, right, how are
things in Green Bay? I mean, look, Green Bay, Wisconsin
(10:48):
has trademarked. The Packers own the trademark for Titletown USA,
thirteen titles. In ironic timing, my basketball team ran the
steps at LAMBA at six am today, I can tell
I cannot. I haven't been able to pull every Packer fan.
But what was missing for the Packers, and we talked
(11:13):
about it a bunch, was a pass rush. And you
got one of the most dynamic pass rushers, if not
the most dynamic pass rusher in any conversation of it
at twenty six years old now playing for the Green
Bay Packers, and they gave up Frank Clark, who good
player nine years. Obviously he had some baggage when he
(11:35):
left college. He hasn't had I don't believe he's had
any baggage in the pros. Respected guy, but not a
guy that strikes fear in the hearts of offensive coordinators
or quarterbacks. Parsons does. So, how are things in Green Bay?
They expected to win a Super Bowl or get to
a Super Bowl? It was the okay, if we're not
gonna make a move for go out and sign a
(11:57):
wide receiver. They drafted a wide receiver in the first tround,
first time they did that over twenty years. And then
they traded for the best defensive player in football who's
yet to truly reach his prime, and gave him the
biggest contract in the history of sport for a non quarterback.
You know. Ed Policy took over as president of the team,
(12:19):
and yesterday they had Mark Murphy who now works with
us at Wisconsin. Green Bay mark Murphy's retirement, so he
was the he's the outgoing president and Ed Policy, who's
you know his dad Carmen Policy used to run the
San Francisco forty nine ers. Ed's been in Green Bay
for a long time. But when he was asked about
(12:41):
Brian Goodenkunst and he was asked about the coaching staff,
he has said there haven't been extensions given. Well, now
everybody you know good and Cunst. I don't know if
that's the motivator or the fact that Parsons was out there.
He's also represented by Molgetto, who's the same agent who
represents Sjordan Love. However it came to be, Yeah, there's pressure,
(13:03):
but there's also just expectation because they got a lot
of talent. Now they got an elite, elite pass rusher.
I'll be interested to hear what Mark Dominic thinks of
this deal, of how it came to be. What do
we not know about Micah Parsons that we're knowing now
and does that affect how we should look at him
as a player. Let's welcome in Mark Dominic. We mentioned
(13:25):
former Gentlemen manager Tampay Buccaneers. When you when somebody texted you,
or you saw on social media or maybe you saw
on TV that Micah Parsons was dealt, you know, ten
days for the regular season or a week really before
some of the regular season kicks off. What was your
immediate reaction.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
It was, you know, it was surprised, right. I really
felt like the Cowboys were going to try to find
a way to hold on to him. But certainly the
value for where Micah is was nowhere near where the
Cowboys wanted to go. And I'm sure you know, knowing
his agent, who's one of the top agents in the NFL,
he had a good pulse of what other clubs were considering,
(14:05):
even though you legally can't know that. And I think
that's what made this thing hold up. And you know,
when I go back and look at this trade from
the lens of the Packers, it's hard not to like, right.
I mean, they tried Lucas van Ness in the first
round that didn't work out. Now they know they're getting
Micah Parsons. There is something with Micah Parsons that maybe
the Cowboys didn't love, maybe something off the field or
(14:27):
things like that. But two things that really stand out
to me, Doug. Number one, I think it's the right
move for where the Green Bay Packers are right now.
I think that they're really trying to say, and we
can go get this right now. We think that we
can you know, catch the Detroit Lions, but catch the
NFC as well, and you know, giving up two ones
Kan Clark's going to be a loss. But Carl Brooks
is a player that people don't know who he is
(14:48):
unless you're a Packer's fan. He's done a really good job,
but he's had the opportunity inside. The other thing that
says for the Cowboys is, you know, their former first
round Think Smith, Mozzie Smith. It obviously hasn't worked out,
and that's why they had to make Kenny Clark part
of the deal.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Okay, let's get to the off the field stuff. I
mean i'd heard some of it and usually was wrapped
around you know, he's always in a podcast, he's tweeting something,
he's in the middle of something. But if they were
really bothered by it, why do they offer him such
a big contract before, you know, before this whole thing
blew up.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
Yeah, I think it's good. You know, all the adage
that you know, I've been around before. As you know,
do guys like football, do they love football? Do they
live football?
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Right?
Speaker 5 (15:35):
And I know that sounds a little bit corner. But
there's a lot of guys out there that really like
football but don't love it, and there's a lot of
guys that love it that don't live it. I think
Micah Parsons is completely blessed in terms of his athleticism,
but I do think the Cowboys feel like he loves football,
now lives football. And when you're going to just obliterate
the market the way that that just happened, you got
(15:56):
to make sure that every piece of every ounce of
his body is exactly what you want want to be.
And maybe the Cowboys just couldn't get themselves there. Maybe
they didn't want to be the people that would, you know,
change the market overnight at that position. I mean, look
right now, I mean it's like Max Crosby just did
a deal a couple months ago, and people like, wow,
now that deal looks sad. It's just it's it's such
a huge move by the Packers financially too, that have
(16:18):
so much ramifications for so many players and so many
teams to deal with the next great pass rusher and
how you're going to try to trump Micah Parsons. So,
you know, I felt like there was whispers too behind
the scenes that you know, again, I think he loved it.
I don't know if he lived it.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Okay, what should expectations be in Green Bay?
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Yeah, I said all along. I really thought that the
factors who closed the gap or could close the gap
on the Detroit Lions, and I felt like, you know,
even one of those teams could represent in the NFC
for this Bowl. And this just makes you feel that
much more even confident that the Packers have that ability,
because when you look up and down the roster, you know,
the one thing that I think, like I said, with
the Lucas vns like him, you know, playing but not
(17:01):
really becoming the pass us that they've been looking for
the outside impact player. They now have that player. And
you know, I think that that was along with this offense,
which I think they're gonna be able to do offensively.
I love their offensive line, what they've done there. They've
got the back end covered up really good. I think
Evan Williams is a sleeper safety that people will get
to know better. Obviously, David mckinnie's a great player. I
(17:22):
just think that they've really been focused on their offseason
and how they wanted to handle this, you know, they
went out and got Nate Hobbs and corner, and they
got Aaron Banks offensive line, and I think this team's
ready to compete. I see them right there with the
Detroit Lions, and maybe this made them one step closer
because they just got a guard that's probably going to
get them the ball back on offense, you know, two
or three more times.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
A game, no, no question. Okay, So let's look at
the rest of the league, most of these other just
what did what'd you think about the deal that the
Bengals pulled off? Right? Kind of obviously he's at a
different player. Alexander's is a different point in his career
than Michaeh Parsons. Parsons only twenty six years old, still
(18:04):
coming into his prime. The thought is that maybe he's
going out of his prime. But to only not even
extend to simply kind of double your money for a year.
What do you think about what the Bengals did?
Speaker 5 (18:15):
Well, I think it already looks good, right, It already
seems like the Bengals did the right thing now, you know,
moving his salary up great, you know, I think that's
it's a win for Trey Hendrickson. He got at least,
you know, what is a fourteen to fifteen million dollar
raise this season. So now I's going to get to
you know, at least the right letter around thirty million dollars.
You know that Micah Parsons is sitting at forty eight
(18:35):
or forty seven, excuse me, just certainly seems eclipse. And
so you know, I think it's a win for both
and that one, I think it's fair for the Bengals
to get him to that in mark, but it also
allows Trey to go be free agent next year and say, hey, look,
you know, I'm I'm TJ. Watt. I've got maybe one,
you know, three four more years in me wants to
prove and if you could put together anything near what
he did, you know over the last three years, two years,
(18:58):
you know, it's gonna be hard to look at Trey Hendrickson,
you know, back to back seventeen and a half sax
seasons that he can't go command even a bigger number.
So I'm glad it worked out for the Bengals. I'm
excited to see what that team looks like this this fall.
But you know, in the end, it looks like the
Bengals already got the better deal by based off this
Michael Parsons deal.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Yeah, I think it's that's a no brainer. I mean,
it's incredible the deal that they end up they end
up getting. Let me circle back to Parsons, when would
you play him if you're if you're the Packers, he said,
a huge deal. But you know, hasn't done anything in
pads yet and we're getting close to game time.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Yeah, I'm sure Coach Hafley, his defensive coordinators, you know,
chomping at the bit to find out a way to
get him in. You've got to think on third down,
you know, when it's you know, third and twelve, third
and eight, third and fourteen, you know that, hey, look
put Mike and just say just go go go be
an athlete. And I think you're going to see a
small package, right, I think week one, uh maybe you know,
(19:51):
twenty to twenty five plays, and I think you'll just say,
slowly go up five to ten plays per game until
he's exactly where they want to rotate him through and
keep him fresh for the whole game. So I still
think you're going to see maybe fifteen to twenty, but
he's going to definitely play week one for the Packers,
you don't make this move. You know he's an athlete,
you know he's going to be in shape, and you
just you know, you're excited to have I mean, this
guy's going to create an impact, and you know it's
(20:13):
going to hurt Dallas. They're going to be counting on
a lot of guys that they're hoping like Overshown or
Sam Williams, guys that they're hoping can kind of step
up somewhat.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Well.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
They know that, as Jerry Jones said, they'll be better
against run.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
I guess, did you what was your reaction to what
the Browns did in Trady Kenny Pickett and then having
the rookie quarterbacks be the number two and number three?
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Not surprised? I mean, you know, I'm actually you know,
for the for the Browns, you know, they should be
thankful that it's said what happened to Ed o'connelly just
can't seem to stay healthy, which is broken, you know
some are broken worrist and now and then allows Kenny
Picket to be at another team. But the Browns at
least get something in return for Kenny Pickett. I think
it makes for a perfect room. You didn't have too
(20:57):
many quarterbacks this where you don't have four quarterbacks sitting around.
Two young guys learned behind Joe Flacco watching him. I
think it's a win win for everybody. Canny pick it
now steps into a spot where's Gino Smith? And if
something happened to Gino, he's got a chance to play.
And I think that's all I can you picker could
ask for at this point with the opportunities he's been
given in the NFL. So you know, I think it's
good for the Browns to clean up the room, open
(21:17):
up a roster spot, good for the Browns to get
a draft choice. Regardless of whatever it was, it's still
a draft selection. And good for the Raiders because they
need somebody that's got game experience behind Geno Smith, who's
not very young.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
The Miami Dolphins are an interesting team. There's lots of
talk of some dysfunction there. You know, obviously Tyreek Kills
a supreme talent, but you know, how how do they
fit him back in the fold. After some of the
things he said last offseason, it just feels like the
Mike mean Daniel thing has just kind of hit a
(21:49):
speed bump and slowed him down and it's not the
same as you know two years ago or even going
into last year. Why is that?
Speaker 5 (21:57):
Yeah, I think some of the luster wore off. I
think that you know, there's been lots and lots of reports,
like you're talking about where you know, who's running the
show or how they're running the show, and you know,
I'm sure that mister Ross, who's genuinely been very impatient,
is probably right at that bubble where he's like, hey, look,
you got to be in the playoffs this year, We're
going to make changes again. And then you know, mister
Ross's he just doesn't you know, he's very quick to
(22:18):
pull the trigger on people. And so for coach, I
think he's got to come out and they've got to
have a great start to their season and be able
to show that, you know, they still have the magic
on offense, the explosive players, all the things that you know,
you want to see. It's I don't I think it's
maybe a little hyped in terms of how bad it is. Remember,
this team gets to start with the Colts, they play
a Patriots team that's you know, still in the rebuilding
(22:42):
phase before they go to the Buffalo Bills and they
play the Jets and the Panthers. So they've got four
games here that I look at and say they're four
and one. You know it was gonna be quiet. Even
though those are games, I think they should be favored
in all four of those games. They still the Cleveland Browns,
Atlanta Valkans, So they've got games in here where they
can win. So I'm not writing this team off as
it's a big disaster, but I do think they've got
to get to ten wins or I don't think Mike
(23:03):
makes it crazy.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
You know, you know a team we have not brought up.
This is weird. We have not discussed the entire offseason
the Houston Texans. And I bring it up because, hey,
two years ago, they were what the Commanders were last year. Right,
you have a bright young coach, you have a talented
young quarterback who's now going into year three. But something
(23:28):
happened with them last year where there seemed to be
regression at quarterback and it didn't seem to be the
same team. And again it's a team we just have
not discussed at all. Where are the Houston Texans heading
into this season?
Speaker 5 (23:40):
I think in a good shape. You know, they's still
playing a vision that they should. You know, besides where
Jacksonville ends up, they should be in pretty good shape.
I mean, again, the offensive line right now is a
little concerning for me based off Tunseil not being there
and what that means for them, you know, throughout the
entire season. But when you look at you know, Nick Chubb,
(24:01):
you know, I still think he's got it in him.
You think about Nico Collins and what you know, he's
a wide receiver one just and now he's got a
chance to really prove it. I like Jayden Higgins, their
second round pick. I think he's going to be a
really good player for them. I think this team's good.
I think they are ten type of wins season. But
I just think that I don't feel like they've vastly improved.
I think they just kind of, uh, you know, held
(24:22):
held the line, I guess is the best way to
say it. You know, they didn't really have a lot
of collateral to go do stuff in the draft this year,
and so when I look at the team in general,
I say it's a good team. Is it a playoff team?
I think so? Are they one and done in the playoffs?
You know, I know it's you know, we haven't started
Week one, but you know, I just think that as
you watch the season unfold, uh, it's going to be
(24:43):
I think hard for them to get over ten wins,
just based off of some of the opponents they play where.
I think that they even though they play in the
South and they play in the South, I think that
they're not quite as easily victor as they have been
in the past. I mean, you start off with the Rams,
We're gonna learn a lot about them right off the
back against that Rams defense to see what this offensively
looks like.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Mark Dominic joining us here Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Eagles open up with the Cowboys. Can you
talk about open up? That feels like one that they
should be confident in. But what are reports out of
the Eagles with their new coordinators?
Speaker 5 (25:17):
Sounds like everything's been really good. Just listening to you know,
kind of reading the tiles more or less, you know,
beat requires aren't an't going to let anything go by
that they're uncomfortable with. But it sure feels like they
feel very good about where Kevin is coach Kevin on
the offensive side, and obviously Vic Fangiel has been around
for a long time, and I think that there's a
lot of comfort with what he can do and what
(25:38):
he'll do with this defense. So I think they're probably
feeling very good about where they sit. Look, it's about
the players. It's about putting Jalen Hurts an opportunity to
make plays. But don't put the whole game on Jalen
Hurts his shoulders. You know he can step up in
the big games, but there's times where you know, you
got to just make it easy for Jalen in my opinion,
just watching the tape, and as long as they don't
over try to make him mister playmate for every snap,
(26:01):
which they shouldn't. They've got obviously take one Barkley back
there for a reason, but I think that they're just
going to ride Saque again, and I think that because
of that, it makes a lot easier to play caller.
It's hard to boo a play caller when he turns
around and hands the ball to take one Barkley.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Yes, I would, I tend to agree there. Danny Dimes
starting quarterback at the Indie. You mentioned not high expectations
for Indy, but does just is the way they're doing things,
bringing Richardson off the bench. Does that make sense to you?
Speaker 5 (26:29):
It's hard, you know, I don't disagree with it, you know,
I think that you know, it's one of those ones
where Danny dimes. You know, it's great for Tyler Warren fans.
If you drafted Tyler Warren, you're gonna be really happy
to have Daniel Jones. If you have Alex Pearson trying
to throw the ball down the field, that's not going
to be a great thing, right, That's not what he does.
(26:49):
He likes to dump the ball off and do the
high percentage passing. That all being said, Chris Ballard's, you know,
been a gym a lot longer than I was a GM.
But every year he's basically had a different starting quarterback
every year he's been the GM of the Colts. That's
incredible to say that a completely different whether it's Philip
Rivers or Matt Ryan, or whether Andrew Luck or Jacoby Brissett.
(27:09):
You know, it's Anthony Richardson now Daniel Jones. It's been amazing,
you know, and that's hard to find any type of
continuity with a football team when you always have a
brand new quarterback under center for the next season. And
I think they're in the same spot where, you know,
I hope for Daniel Jones, but I just feel like
I think defensive counters kind of know Daniel Jones. They
know he's gonna throw the ball. He's not gonna take
(27:30):
shots down the field. That's just not his personality. And
I think you're just going to try to limit Josh downs,
and you're gonna certainly limit Alex Pierce. But the big
thing is taken away the underneath, taking away Tyler Warren,
trying to take away Taylor catching the ball of the backfield,
That'll be the big thing, and that's what he loves
to do. So I think it's gonna be easier for
defensi quarters to handle him than it would be even
a Richardson, who, again I don't think is a starting quarterback,
but at least you had to respect the running in
(27:52):
the athlete that.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Richardson, who is Mark Dominick, twenty years in the NFL
for an Office of Scouting course, Gentle Managers, the tamp
Bay Buccaneers joined us every week, great and stillright, Mark,
Thanks so much for joining us. We'll talk next week.
Speaker 5 (28:02):

This is game time game on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Months What do you got?
Speaker 6 (28:45):
Well, we're gonna kick off the weekend with a.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Little I got DIBs.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
We're gonna be calling DIBs the four of us on
different things here, but we're gonna start with the NFL boys.
All right, who's got DIBs? What is the best team
on paper right now in the NFC?
Speaker 1 (29:04):
I got DIBs in the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
No one's easy. Yeah, well I mean not just time, yes.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
No, I mean listen, it's hard obviously right now, you
liveing in Green Bay. Packers feel great about where they are.
But the Eagles have actually won a Super Bowl just
last year. They've been dominant again. You talked about on paper,
we don't know how it works in practice with new coordinators,
et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker 7 (29:29):
I know Doug's already sammed up my pick, but I'm
gonna go with the Packers. Yeah, I think Parsons put
them over the top. I think they're still the youngest
roster in the NFL if I'm not mistaken. But on paper,
pound for pound, they're as talented as any team the NFC.
I dare anybody to say somebody different.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
I mean, both of you are not wrong, but I'll
take DIBs. I'm gonna take DIBs on the Lions. I
know they lost their coordinators, I know, but after they
can't they can't take that big of a dip. I know,
I expect a little dip, but I don't think Dan
Campbell is gonna like change the whole offense that they've
been doing. So losing their coordinators a big deal, Yes
(30:12):
it is, but I can I'll take them in at
DIBs at number three. Yeah, I'll take the Lions.
Speaker 7 (30:17):
I think it's fair. Yeah, it's fair.
Speaker 6 (30:21):
All right, let's move on here, same same idea, though,
What is the best team on paper right now? In
the AFC? M, I got.
Speaker 7 (30:32):
DIBs on the Ravens. I got DIBs Ravens. Yeah, Ravens.
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Yeah, that is that on paper, they are the best
team probably, I think in the NFL, not even just
in the AFC. Indeed, indeed on paper, on paper?
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Who'd you take a chase the Ravens. M. I'm gonna
take the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (30:55):
You canna take the Kansas City Chiefs? Yeah, all right, coach.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
I mean, why wouldn't I I think a.
Speaker 6 (31:01):
Lot of people I am not low on them, but
you know, like last year they were in the Super Bowl,
of course, but they were a team that maybe didn't
look like a ten in one record.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
I got it. I don't think. I mean I could.
I could take shots at their surrounding talent, at Travis
Kelcey looking like he's gotten older. You know, they haven't
been the same offensively since they lost, since they traded
away Tyreek Hill. They really the defense carried well, that's great.
Are you gonna pick against the Chiefs? Because until further notice,
(31:34):
picking the Chiefs. I'm not a Chiefs fan, but I've
watched it up to go like they figure it out.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
I totally am with you.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
I'm with you.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
I guess I'll take DIBs here. I'm gonna take Buffalo.
I'm gonna take Buffalo. I think they're also in the
mix of coming out of the AFC, maybe actually getting
past the Chiefs. We'll see getting past the Ravens. I
know they did it last year, but maybe they're gonna
have to do it again. I'll take the Bills in
that one. All right, all right, let's here. DIBs on
what Mega Trade has surprised you most in your lifetime.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
DIBs on the Luka Doncic.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
I'm never gonna get over that one, Guys, I'm never
gonna get over it. It doesn't and everybody's comparing the Michael
Parsi's no, Michael Parss is not what Luca is. I
know he's great, and I feel bad for Dallas, but
in my lifetime, Luka Doncic, I can't still can't believe it.
Nico Harrison, it's all your fault.
Speaker 7 (32:22):
I mean, the key word is surprised, right because we
were all either at the super Bowl or finding the
super Bowl or whatever that was, and we nobody knew.
The Wakers and the MAVs kept it from everybody. There
wasn't even a week.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
It was crazy.
Speaker 7 (32:37):
The fact that I think sham shams when he puts
out the tweet and the reaction is somebody hacked his account,
and people that are in the know, like Zach Low
and so for were like, somebody must have hacked his account,
like nobody even had a clue this was happening. I
got DIBs and this predates Manci, so you're out of this.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Oh okay.
Speaker 7 (33:01):
In nineteen ninety seven, the Dodgers traded Mike Piazza. Ninety eight,
actually ninety eight, Dodgers traded Mike Piazza to the Marlins.
Believe it or not, Mike Piazza Hall of Fame catcher
was a Marlin. Tommy Lasorda was the one who traded him.
And I've never been more shocked, surprised, or disappointed in
(33:23):
a trade in my wife.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Most surprising trade, I thought it was Donald McNabb to
the Washington Redskins, like McNabb had been a winner for
them and he had started to fall out of favor,
but to trade him to the Redskins, and they were
right by the way, but it signified to everybody in
the league he's done, he's washed. I mean, you don't
give up your franchise quarterback to a team in your
division list you think he's got nothing left, and he
(33:48):
had nothing left.
Speaker 6 (33:50):
All right, let's move on here, fellas at DIBs, on
what show you would recommend our listeners to binge this weekend.
I've got a short.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
One that you binged the show college football this week.
But you're talking about because the weekend before the NFL.
Speaker 6 (34:06):
Yeah, you know you have a little bit of time, right,
It's also Labor Day weekends. Everybody's on maybe a little
bacation at home. Yes, there's gonna be football, But if
you need to separate yourself from sports, what do you recommend?
Speaker 1 (34:19):
I mean, look, I'm I'm finishing up.
Speaker 6 (34:22):
Suits nice the original one, like was gonna be a
spin off?
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Yeah, if I'm gonna binge something.
Speaker 7 (34:31):
No, no, that's it. That's the one. You get one, you
get one. I got dipped is one. And I do
need to comment Suits is great. I will say that
Suits the for four seasons of Suits is amazing, riveting TV,
and then it starts to get kind of ridiculous. But
I don't want to shows do. I got DIBs.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
About like season three, so, seeing the end of quality television.
Speaker 7 (34:55):
Near, I got DIBs on this Netflix series you may
have heard about. I compelled. I kind of forced Monsei
to watch it before she filled in for you recently
dug yes, and yeah, did you finish it?
Speaker 3 (35:11):
No?
Speaker 6 (35:11):
I'm on episode six to live so seven and eight.
Speaker 7 (35:14):
Okay, yeah, what is it? The Gambler and his cowboys?
Some riveting storytelling. It's the storytelling from Jerry Jones' perspective.
If you know that going in and you watch it
through that prism, it's still so well done. There is
footage you've never seen, things you totally forgot about. Yep,
(35:35):
incredible to watch. I very much recommend it is great.
Speaker 6 (35:37):
I'll tell you on Netflix watch Amy Bradley is Missing.
It's about a girl that one missing on a cruise.
Speaker 7 (35:42):
But it's nuts.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
It's only three episodes. You can binge it. It is
so interesting. I don't know what to believe.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
And that I mean with all this cruise stuff, like
do people enjoy cruises?
Speaker 6 (35:54):
I I do, But watching that, I was like, I think,
this girl's still alive. I don't know what happened to her, badies,
she's still alive and that's game.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
To BA get out there and pressed. That was the
press I was today years old when I had learned
about about about such a story. This is the Doug
Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, coming up next,
let's compare the Luca deal to the Micah Parsons deal. Yeah,
did Monsie say not to do that? We're gonna do it.
(36:20):
Next to The Doug Oatlip Show.
