Booming Up America Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Hope
you're having a spectacular day. I am so excited to
do this show here today. Well, no, no, no, and
you should be excited to listen to us. Eighteen innings.
(00:40):
Eighteen innings and the Dodgers heard the criticism from one
Jason Stewart and said, our bullpen's awesome at least for
one night. Matt Holliday's going to join us. A little
later on the show, John Mittcoff is going to join us.
We got football basketball. Oh yeah, by the way, there
was a Monday night football game. Here's what I want
(01:04):
to do back when Twitter was Twitter, back before it
had bots, or at least we knew there were bots,
and before there was blue check marks. I love the
device because it felt like you were in a room
full of people who were all watching the same event
and would have funny remarks and comments, so whatever, and
(01:28):
it was it was a little bit like Mystery Science
Theater three thousand and when I say that, there's going
to be a portion of you that have no idea
what I'm talking about. There's a small portion of you
that when I explained it to be like okay, I know,
and then there's a very very small portion of view
they're gonna be like, yeah, that's exactly what it was,
like Mystery Science Theater three thousand was Was that a
(01:51):
Nicked Night show? Jase two? I want to say it
was like a Nicked night show that no idea, but
it was. It was the remiss of it was there's
like a robot and a dude and maybe one other
robot and they were stuck in space, and so they
would watch all of these B movies from like the
eighties and nineties, and they would just make comments about
(02:16):
the movies, you know, the unbelievable parts of it, the
poorly shot parts of it, or whatever. That's what it was.
It was comedy Central. That's what Twitter used to be, like, right,
We're all sitting around watching the same game and making
funny comments. Now it's you know, it's not real world.
It's way too far left or way too far right,
and everything's negative, full of bots, full of ads and whatever.
(02:42):
But last night was a shared experience, and if your
experiences hadn't watch it, dude, just because I'm not that
into baseball, that's okay. But I fell asleep last night.
I fell asleep twice and missed it. I mean, and
I've missed several things. I really missed two things in
(03:07):
my lifetime that I'm I don't know if I'm bitter about,
but I definitely reticent about. I want to say it
was nineteen ninety six USC UCLA. Cade McCown was the
quarterback of UCLA. They were down big heading into the
(03:28):
fourth quarter and they scored like I'm going to say,
like four touchdowns in the fourth quarter. My sister is
was alum of UCLA. She was a former UCLA cheerleader,
so we'd been a ton of UCLA games. My brother
was a uclalum. My whole family we used to go
to this game all the time. And this was my
year back in southern California after Notre Dame, before Oklahoma
State go to the game. Ucla is getting blown out.
(03:52):
At the end of the third quarter, We're like, that's it,
We're out. Rose Bulls a trap to get out of.
And I remember hearing Auror we got to our crowd
and thinking, ah sc scored again. Couldn't turn on the
radio the whole way, didn't want to know anything about it.
Got home, turned on the TV and UCLA came back
and won. And then the Iron Bowl where you had
(04:13):
to kick six I'm going to say that was two
thousand and twelve. A buddy of mine named Mike Harriston,
who's a big donor at Auburn, has invited me for
years to come to the game twenty thirteen, Thank you
twenty thirteen for years to come to the game, and
he took a picture which I still have somewhere in
(04:34):
my camera roll of he has a suite and there's
eight sweet tickets. Seven of the stubs are used, one
stub is not, and he's like, hey missed you, buddy,
And I did. It was I had a game on
a Sunday and I had to choice to leave on
Friday for the game and go to Auburn and then
you know, drive to Atlanta and fly out, and I
(04:54):
instead chose, and I'm not bitter about right. My kids
were little. To hang out my kids for a day.
And then I watched the game in the airport. But
I remember watching the kick six right before I boarded
my flight, thinking I should have been in Auburn, Alabama.
Last night. I'm watching the game. I had the the
what's it called the view with the two two screens
(05:17):
up chase two, uh huh multiview. I had the multiview
going and I was flipping back and forth with the sound.
We had a recruit in town, so we went down
to Texas Roadhouse, got us, got us a big old
stake again. Both the games are on. We're right in
the bar area. It's awesome listening to the game. Get home,
watch the game, talking to friends, and like the tenth inning.
(05:41):
I just I could not keep my eyes open. It
was a long day, a lot of travel that the
previous day. In that day, and I just we had
two practices, we got an exhibition, get a game coming
up next week. I just I fell asleep and then
I woke up and I thought it was the replay
(06:01):
of the game. I didn't That's exactly what I thought.
It was. The replay of the game, because I woke
up and I think it was like two hours. I
felt like it was two hours later and the game
was still on. And if you watch games on YouTube
on YouTube TV, you know that they it just replays
games constantly, constantly on some of those random channels that
(06:24):
they have there. So I just thought that's what it was,
and I watched it. I opened up my eyes and
it was five to five, and I'm like, this is
the same game. I fell asleep too, and then I
fell back asleep, and then I woke up this morning
or really early this morning, and I realized, wait, hold on,
what happened. I totally missed it. Totally missed it. So
(06:48):
you have show Hazes incredible night on base nine times,
all nine times he went up to play up to
the play. You have Freddie Freeman for the second consecutive year,
being a hero in the postseason. Uh. You have the
Dodgers bullpen doing something that I don't think Jay stew
(07:09):
thought they were ever capable of, which is, you know,
holding things together, waiting for offense, even had Kershaw come
in and get it out right, they just just get
us out and he got him, got him out. You
have Toronto and obviously Springer that that one's gonna that
that potentially hurts them, But so many of the substitutions
(07:31):
they made to try and win the game end up
lasting their lineup later on the game in terms of
their competitiveness and ability to put put a run on
the board. And then you have Show Show he is
going to pitch tonight after you know, four for four
with five walks and all that energy expended. The whole
(07:52):
thing is crazy. So here's what I want to do,
the shared experience. Let me start dan Byer with you. You have,
you have a son family. You strike me as somebody
that goes to bed earlier than me and Jason Stewart does.
I could be completely wrong. You don't strike me as
a super night owl like I am. What was your
experience with the game.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Last night, Doug, you are wrong. I think I stay
up way longer than Jason Stewart does.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Is that? Can you confirm that? Jason?
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Absolutely? Yeah, yeah, ar night owl, I am.
Speaker 6 (08:22):
We're getting your rundowns at like midnight sometimes that's true.
I do, yes, I do stay up late final draft.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
So, uh, my viewing experience was this watched flipped back
and forth, watched more of the Monday night game. Actually
took in some of the Manning cast last night. I
hadn't been doing that lately but did last night. Flipped
around back and forth Chiefs Commanders ends, probably seventh inning,
so seventh inning on. I'm locked into baseball until I
have to do our I Want your Flex podcast. But
(08:51):
I still had it on as Mike Harmon and our
executive producer Ian Roddy recorded that. And it was in
the last segment that Freddie Freeman hit the last segment
that we were recording that Freddy Freeman hit the walk
off shot in the eighteenth So yeah, I was I
was off. I probably didn't go to bed un till
like quarter to two last night.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
All right, Sam, what was your experience?
Speaker 6 (09:14):
I feel like I spent the majority of my emotional
or I burned the majority of my emotional wick or
candle during you know the the set was the seventh
inning when show Hey tied it up.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
And then like you know, you're that was.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
An exciting and I'm not. I want to make sure
this is clear. I like the Dodgers. I consider myself
I mean, like you're a SoCal guy. I'm again. I
locked in with the Angels, but I've always liked the Dodgers.
Gone to World Series games with the Dodgers. Dodgers team
is the best place I've ever been to see a
baseball game. But I was I was so excited with
(09:53):
the seventh inning that it really did. I agree with you.
What'd you say you burned your emotional wick? That's amazing.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
So yeah, like the the mia I was spent by
you know. Yeah, So then the ninth inning, and then
we go the tenth, eleventh, twelfth, by the fourteenth, fifteenth,
I'm just like, oh man, at this point, just somebody
win it. Please, I'm exhausted. I didn't even really care
who was gonna win at that point. I'm like, just
end it, just end it. Credit to Dodger fans, most
most of them stuck around and they went wild the
(10:22):
end that. But yeah, i'd say that between like the
you know, the fifth through the ninth inning was really tense.
Uh burned, yeah, burned the emotional wick and uh if
uh you.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Know, Just so you're up, I was watching it the
whole time.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
Watched the whole time I was making dinner. I was
even like vacuuming At one point, I was just doing
different things. I ate dinner, I laid there, I went
on the computer, and just inning after inning, draw after draw,
stalemate after stalemate, and then Freddy finally ends it, and
You're just like, thank you, Lord.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Jesus, all right, Jay Stu? What was last night?
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Life?
Speaker 7 (10:56):
This was like a labor of love for me. I'm
gonna say this is I am serious, but I'm going
to be dead serious here. I had just raw emotions.
I had tears in my eyes at quarter to midnight
last night. One of the greatest things I have ever
witnessed since I've been in the business, but even in
my lifetime, and I remember Kurt Gibson, it was like, again,
(11:21):
this experience that I'm about to share with you is
a complete labor of love. Because how many people at
the game last night or watching the game last night
get to go on the radio the next day and
talk about your team and one of the greatest experiences
you've ever had. And where do you want to start? Like,
(11:42):
where do you want to start? How many storylines do
you want to follow? You have the show, Hey, Tony's story,
you have the Freddie Freeman story. Those are the headlines
you have the bullpen story that superstar will climb introduce
himself to the world last night. You have you have
the Tommy Edmund Redemp story. He made a horrible error
(12:02):
in the second or third inning and spent the entire
rest of the eighteen innings making up for that. He
was a part of the relay throw home that saved
the game. He was a part of the throw from
from second base to get what's his face at third
base to save the inn.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
What about that little scoop just the first base, you know,
the little dribbler like that was? That was That was
one of those where you think of it as like
a hot dogging play, you know, where you don't touch,
you use your hand. But he actually needed it for
that play, and he scoops it up and throws it
the first and again saves another run.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
And that's where the story wines crossed, because that was
Kershaw's story. Kershaw came in for one pitch when one batter,
he threw ball four twice. He threw ball four twice
to Lucas. Lucas swings at ball four that almost was
in the dirt. Tommy Edmund comes in, scoops it up
(12:58):
and throws to first. Everybody who was watching that, who
has been invested in the Dodgers all of Kershaw's career,
was Ellen Kershaw in that moment, And if you've seen
the replay, she was going to lose it. I think
she was about to have a heart attack, and all
Dodger fans were feeling the same thing. The roller coaster
(13:19):
of last night is so hard to put into words.
I was so pissed at Mookie Betts for eighteen innings
of a game. That's almost two games. I spent pissed
off at Mookie Bets, just seething at him. And I'm
still mad at him. But it doesn't it's not as
as my feelings about him do not overcompensate for just
(13:40):
the pure feeling of joy. The video that we saw
last night. I put it on my social media. You've
seen it. Somebody got a video of Yamamato, who who
volunteered to pitch in the nineteenth inning, if it's gonna
if it was gonna go, they got it just through
the complete game, volunteered to pitch in the nighteeenth then eight.
(14:01):
He was gonna give us nine innings last night. You
see the video of him and all the guys in
the bullpen, including his interpreter, and there's like pure, genuine glee.
And then they went to embrace show hey like midfield,
and I'm thinking, this is what eight year olds do
in Little League. I was just so overcome with emotion
(14:23):
watching the videos from last night, just pure unadultraded glee.
I was so happy.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
All right, let me give you, let me give you
a couple thoughts here, Doug gotlip show here on Fox
Sports radiof feel free to share, yes, your thoughts in
watching that baseball game. And if you didn't watch the
baseball game, it's okay, it's all. It's all part of
the story because you're gonna be the guy. But like
I didn't watch well what well, whatever it was, it
was an amazing sporting event. Two parts. One, I don't
(14:57):
have to not sound harsh. This is what college basketball
coach just talk about all the time. This is why
we recruit foreign players because they just are easier and
they seem to be wired better, like we screw up
the wiring. And again I'm using this as the basketball
(15:17):
analogy to baseball, which is different and there's different parts
of the world that play baseball. Celebrate believe in baseball differently, right.
But the way in which if you listen to Show
Hayes interview after the game where they ask them all
these things, like all he wants to do is win,
and he wants to go home and get to sleep
(15:37):
so they can wake up and win the next day.
Right now. Again, the cynic says, well, that's easy when
you got seven hundred million dollars coming into you over
the next twenty years. But no, that's really how he's wired.
It's just different. There isn't the entitlement of the American
or maybe even the Latin player. It's just not very
(15:58):
very different.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
You know.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
It's like when you watch American baseball players or Latin
baseball players, there's one thing that I would say over
fifty percent of them have some ridiculous chain on when
they play. You ever noticed Japanese players don't have that.
Here knows that they just said they're playing baseball to
play baseball. That's what they do. And the reason that
so many American coach like myself, like we had a
(16:22):
kid in last night from Serbia and we have three
Serbians on our team, and you know, we had two
Israelis last year and Australian kid, and they're just wired differently.
They're wired to like, hey, I just want to go
out and like the Aussie's I want to go play
ball and then have a beer afterwards. Like that's really it.
So the first thing is, like, I do think there's
(16:43):
a purity to the Japanese star that doesn't have doesn't
have the entitlement. Doesn't mean all American players are entitled,
doesn't even mean most of them are entitled. But I
am blown away by the lack of entitlement from the
Japanese player. There is something that I don't think gets discussed,
(17:05):
And I gotta be honest with you. I didn't listen
to a ton of Joe Davis and John Smoltz, even
though I love John Smoltz eighteen innings nine innings of
extra inning ball when in the regular season extra inning
play is completely different. Right when you get to the
tenth inning in the regular season, there's a guy on
(17:27):
second base to start every inning, so it's a completely
different way of playing. Preparing, obviously your defense is more.
But something that Sam said is at some point I
just wanted to get over that's how regular season baseball is, right,
regular season baseball, they put a guy at second base
because everybody's like, we're good here, let's a rap, let's
(17:47):
get this thing going. But it's there's no real preparation
for when you play one hundred and six to two
games with one set of rules, and then you play
the playoffs and there's a different set of rules. And
you can say, well, it's the same set of rules
you play the first night indings, but we all know
that it's not because the amount of pressure and and
and the adjustments that are made are completely different, or
(18:11):
maybe they're much just on peak in comparison to others.
So there's lots of takeaways to be had. I agree
with John Sneyder. I would ever pitch to show Io
Todi ever, and yeah, it's a bad watch, but you
know what, if you can do it, you do it.
Rule number one in coaching take away what the other
(18:31):
team does best? Period stop. And I'm blown away by
the lack of entitlement of the Japanese player. And I
find it really interesting that What's Gonna go down as
historically one of the greatest games ever played in World
Series history, there was not the level of prepared prepparedness
for it because the regular season rules are different in
(18:52):

(19:13):

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Full count on Freeman, Little Delivers Freeman. It's one high
in the air, straight away center field, far.
Speaker 8 (19:26):
So at the walk, Freddie Freeman.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Mister World Series hands the marathon at midnight.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
I mean amazing right midnight, three to two count, bottom
of the eighteenth inning in the same stadium that Kirk
Gibson hit the home run Freddie Freeman. Another year, another
heroic moment.
Speaker 9 (19:54):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern Noon pass Effect
on Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Mis Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. John
Middlecoff is our guest. He's an NiFi analyst. He's the
host of three Now podcast. Uh John, did how much
of the baseball did you watch?
Speaker 8 (20:17):
I stayed up till they walked show, heo Tani and
then Mookie and then I think he popped up. It
would have been like probably the thirteenth inning.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
What level of fomo did you have or or whatever?
You know that that you missed out when you woke
up this morning you saw what happened.
Speaker 8 (20:39):
Well, I mean it was the first thing I did,
but I didn't have eighteen anythings in me, so I'm
I'm glad I would say zero, you know, so I
I just go eighteenything. I mean one of the mass
two games.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
So, I mean you're talking seven hours. I don't.
Speaker 8 (20:52):
I was, you know, trying to get up, go work
out and start my day bright and early.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
And I mean what time did that? What time did
the game officially in?
Speaker 2 (21:00):
I don't know. It's asleep. I was asleep, but I
think to it again, I think, yeah, like four in
the morning here, like two in the morning. There was
It was It was nuts for people who missed Monday
Night football because they watched Monday Night Baseball. I think
game was it was just kind of boring in the
first half. What changed allowed the Chiefs to open it up.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
Yeah, I think Mahomes.
Speaker 8 (21:23):
I mean, I think he's officially thrown his hat back
in the ring as I'm the best player and I
plan on winning.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
The MVP this year.
Speaker 8 (21:29):
I mean, he's he's dominating and I think right back
to go along with Hollywood Brown. Juju has opened up
for Travis, who's kind of looked rejuvenated, you know. I mean,
I've been telling you that he looked kind of a
shells himself, and I don't think he's as fast as
he once was. But there wasn't as much space the
last couple of years because their receiving group, especially last year,
(21:52):
got so injured as.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
The season went on. So now he's got.
Speaker 8 (21:56):
More space to operate, and he looks good again. The
running backs are playing well. Hell, they were.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Missing their best.
Speaker 8 (22:02):
Their star young left tackle has been gone for a
couple of weeks, and Tray Smith, their superstar guard, missed
the game too. So now Washington's not very good. I mean,
they look like they're headed towards six wins. But in
the second half, I mean the Chiefs just toyed. I mean,
if this was college and Andy was a run it
up coach, I mean, the score could have been forty
to seven.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Okay, So obviously Jayden Daniel's being out, do you is it?
Is it injuries or something else that's caused Washington be
so average this year as opposed to last year when
they were kind of the story of the league.
Speaker 8 (22:34):
Well, obviously Jaden hurts their offense. Their defense is atrocious
right now. I mean Bobby Wagner got old fast. I
mean he looked really slow out there. When your middle
linebacker's slow, you know, your defense can look really slow.
Speaker 5 (22:45):
Because this game.
Speaker 8 (22:47):
It's you know, twenty twenty five. Spreading me out means
you're covering a lot of running backs, covering slot receivers,
covering tight ends.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
Can't do that anymore.
Speaker 8 (22:54):
Latimore has been a disaster for them, I know, I
know he had an interception last night, and just their
team speed and in fairness to them, what they inherited
a year ago. You know, their defensive line.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Isn't exactly loaded.
Speaker 8 (23:06):
So remember they had traded their multiple guys before they
even got their sweat and Chase Young, so their edge
rush is not great and their personnel is is.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
Not that good.
Speaker 8 (23:18):
So to me, it came back back to Jaden, who listens.
I think anytime you know, and you know this, you know,
playing big time college basketball, it's hard.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
I don't care.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
I was thinking about this watching the Alabama game, even
with the board. The last two years, for what since
two thousand and eight or nine, they have been the
team that every program that plays them twelve games of
the year, thirteen games the year for circles. And that's
what the Chiefs have done now for six seven years. Right,
it's the biggest game on every team they played.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Schedule. Well, Washington has been a joke for two decades.
Speaker 8 (23:52):
This is the first year that, like, people gotta take
you seriously, and it is not going well. No, no, no,
And I think their next two games are Seattle and
the Lion I mean, you can get up here.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Well, I will tell you there's something interesting about what's
happened with the Colts, right, I mean the Colts I
think are really good. I think they're really well coached.
Now there's talk of extending Danny Dimes. Would you support that?
Speaker 8 (24:20):
Well, again numbers, So was it three years ago? Whenever
he got the extension with the Giants. One thing I
vividly remember about that was like Joe Shane going, God,
these guys, they're tough to deal with. And they acted
like they were representing you know, Patrick Mahomes, and they
kind of dominated that negotiation and if that's going to
(24:41):
be their tactic again, like I'm just not giving him
like one hundred and fifty million dollars, Like why can't
we just sign like here's three years, seventy five million dollars.
But we all know that deal never exists, So I'd
be careful with the Colts.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Not that I mean what we're seeing.
Speaker 8 (24:56):
Is real, but what happens is when you get these
non elite of the elite a couple of years in
their salary cap, hits, hit gets bigger, and then it's hard.
Now he does look like a real quarterback. Now, a
real quarterback, you know, the tenth best guy or the
seventh best guy, you know, give or take on a week.
But he's never gonna be some elite guy. And we've
seen when you pay the non elite guys. Ask Jacksonville
(25:18):
as Arizona ask Miami how that goes. And we all
knew it at the time what he's guys doing.
Speaker 5 (25:23):
So I'd be careful.
Speaker 8 (25:25):
But if Jonathan Taylor's gonna score thirty touchdowns.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
A year, I mean, hell, the just master your quarterback.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Is Aaron Rodgers was affuse in his praise of the Packers.
He said, and I'm not quoting verbatim, but it was
something along the lines of, that's not the team that
I left. They're way better. That's a super Bowl caliber defense.
Was it the Packers or the Steelers just not that good?
Speaker 8 (25:50):
Well, I was just kind of figuring out what I'm
gonna talk about them on the podcast. I do think
this week it feels like their season is.
Speaker 5 (25:57):
Kind of on the line. I mean, if they lose
back to back.
Speaker 8 (25:59):
Games as home underdogs that used to be a classic
Mike Tomlins spot.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Like what have we been doing anymore?
Speaker 8 (26:05):
And if they lose this week, all of a sudden,
if the Ravens win Thursday night against the Dolphins or
the Bengals win, like this division is wide open again.
And we just thought a couple of weeks ago it's like, oh,
they're gonna win it with ease, And now we're looking
there's like, are they about to be like four and four?
So I obviously the Packers are a better team, you know,
just like we saw earlier this season, Seattle is a
better team. They got more youth, they got more explosion.
(26:27):
Aaron's not wrong, like this version of the Packers is
better than three years ago.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
And pass rush, what are you gonna do?
Speaker 8 (26:33):
But look at the you know, I'm not blaming at
all on Tomlin.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
Like their rosters kind of funky.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
I mean they got one tight end like or I
mean they got one wide receiver and like seven tight ends.
And their wide receiver, I mean they paid him like
he's Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson. That's not really dk' deal.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
You know.
Speaker 8 (26:49):
It's not like he can carry you like he's Trell
Owens or Randy Mosses from He gets big plays, but
look at his numbers. He's not like a ten for
one hundred and fifty guy every week. And I just
think their running back situation, like in theory they.
Speaker 5 (27:03):
Should be a running back defensive team.
Speaker 8 (27:05):
We see the defense or secondary thinks.
Speaker 5 (27:08):
I don't know, TJ.
Speaker 8 (27:09):
Watt, what's happened in the last couple weeks. They gave
him a little bit of a pass on Thursday night.
But if he's not going to be one of the
best players in the league, I mean, I'm out of
this team, which is kind of crazy because if you
would have told me, you know, Rodgers actually be pretty solid,
he'll be fine, I'd be like, oh, yeah, don't win
ten games.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
They lose this week.
Speaker 8 (27:28):
Who knows they can kind of lose anybody.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
If you're defense, yeah, I would. I would agree with
you that.
Speaker 8 (27:34):
This isn't explosive enough, right, I mean, they got one
player for him to throw to.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
That literally that's it. And then and he's good, but
there are times he clearly doesn't want to get hit.
He turtles sometimes and then he's kind of got. He's
still got the uh got the Aaron Rodgers kind of swagger, arrogance,
yell at other people on the field, thing down. Pat.
Let me let me ask you about the Jets comeback.
Does that change anything with Justin Jefferson long term?
Speaker 8 (28:03):
No, not at all. I mean, honestly, like probably like most.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Justin field Justin fields, I'm sorry.
Speaker 8 (28:08):
Yeah, yeah, I did about you know, that was on
a second TV. I'm just thinking Cincinnati's gonna blow him out,
and you look over there and they're driving to either
tie or take the lead, and uh listen, I mean
it's the NFL. You could go three and fourteen. Those
couple of weeks that you win are gonna feel cool.
But I think they're I mean they're terrible and they
were down fourteen points right in the fourth quarter. It's
(28:31):
not like I don't care now. I do respect him.
I'm sure you saw his comments about like this pretty
emotional week and talking about breaking down emotionally, probably just
fewing himself, Like do I actually suck hearing the owners
say that. I have a lot of respect for Justin Fields,
just the way he's kind of carried himself. Obviously he's
got some deficiencies as a quarterback, but I think he's
(28:54):
proven to be a pretty high level guy.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Yeah. No, I mean to take to have that said
grand it's the owner and then to be that vulnerable.
I just don't think he's shown to be that good
a quarterback. And I wouldn't I wouldn't kind of get
a twist in there, Atlanta. I know they have injuries,
but what's going on with the Atlanta Falcons?
Speaker 8 (29:16):
Yeah, to me, it is an organization thing, Doug. I mean,
you go back a year when they fired Arthur Smith.
It's like, was he just the idiot and everyone else
was smart in the building, Like it wasn't the GM
the guy picking the players. I always read flag an
organization when they have a super rich owner, but that
owner is a little out of touch because he's super old.
And then they got a guy that's like a football guy,
(29:37):
but he's also a business guy, but he runs the
owner's trust in Rich McKay. He's been around forever. He's
kind of like the team presidents. It's just a lot
of you know, chefs and the kits in there.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
And you know, Raheem is a good example.
Speaker 8 (29:50):
Listen, like, not everyone is meant to be a star
player if you're in the NFL. Not everyone's meant to
be a head coach. If you're an assistant coach, and
there's you know, the it's a great time to be
a coordinator right now. I mean some of these guys
are making four or five six million dollars. Chip Kelly,
he signed for eighteen million dollars. I mean there's probably
seventy five percent of the NFL to sign that contract,
(30:12):
So I just think he's a little over seat, you know,
and his coaching staff's not good enough. You know, they
made enormous for mel mistakes. I mean, the Cousins thing
has massive ram ramifications. They gave him ninety million dollars.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
He wasn't good last year.
Speaker 8 (30:27):
God Bench Pennis, who I'm rooting for, doesn't look great.
And then and then Cousins has to play this year,
so they couldn't really trade him.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Splash.
Speaker 8 (30:35):
Their owner was like, stubborn, we're.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
Paying this guy this much money.
Speaker 8 (30:38):
You're backup gonna make twenty seven point five million dollars
and you can't even sniffle Win mac Jones, for example,
is won four games. He signed a two year, seven.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
Million dollar contract.
Speaker 8 (30:49):
So like, at the end of the day, this is
a business and they have allocated resources in an extremely
poor level. Oh yeah, they don't have their first round
pick next year.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
The Rams do.
Speaker 2 (30:59):

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Hey there, Damn Baryer.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
What do you got about Doug? The game today is
rank them all right.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Doug ranked the top three teams in the NFL through
eight weeks of the season.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
MM hmmm, it is hard. This is very hard. Okay,
here's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to say the.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
I know I kind of caught you off guard with
this one.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
No, you didn't.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
I just it's like, do I came out of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
No, no, no, I know, I'm just I'm stuck on
the Colts and the Packers and where to put them,
and then honestly, what to do with the Bills, because
I think the Bills are really good but major injury?
And then am I undertelling the Eagles Like I actually
think about this a little bit too much. I'm gonna go, uh,
(32:57):
Indianapolis Colts one, green Bay Pickers two.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
And green Bay is gonna have a good team this year.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
I would, I would, I would agree. Uh and the
Denver Broncos three.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Hello, Denver could be without Patrick Certan for for a
while because of that pack.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
It wasn't a tear, right, wasn't a torn prac Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
But uh still we'll see how Denver responds.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
I'm not certain when he'll be back. So did there,
Jay stew I thought you'd appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (33:32):
Terrible Dan chose the Broncos to win the Super Bowl?
Are you coming off? Was that Patrick's certain nugget right there?
Away of you trying to come off of that prediction?
Speaker 4 (33:43):
Zero percent?
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Actually here, nope, nope, check that out on a limb
as well while you're at it checking on my picks.
I actually think it could help Denver. Maybe certain's a
little fresher in the postseason because of this injury.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Well, keep the wide out in with the pencils, all right.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
You could probably wipe out my MVP winner because that
was Joe Burrow. But Doug, who are your top three
MVP candidates in the NFL right now through eight weeks?
Speaker 2 (34:10):
M I do think Pat Mahomes is in the discussion.
I mean he's second in yards past. I'll go all quarterbacks.
I'm gonna go uh Dak Prescott three, Pat Mahomes two,
(34:32):
justin herber one.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Alright, Jonathan Taylor has to be mentioned. I'm sure, but
it's gonna.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Be hard, all right. Doug ranked the top three teams
in college football.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Ohio State one.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
There's a lot of talk the SEC message boards, blogs, videos,
a lot of people mad that Ohio State is still
number one. People feel Texas A and M or at
least they're maybe taking up the cost for Indiana as well.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
But Ohio State is number one of the eight people.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Yeah, coaches, I'd put Alabama at two, Okay, I would
do text aem at three.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
Mm hmmm, Sam, you approve of those rankings? Mm hmmm, Sam?
Again Ohio State. Sam wasn't paying attention.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
I wasn't.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
Okay, well, no, no, just just just give me Alabama,
Alabama to Texas A and M three.
Speaker 6 (35:30):
I mean, I wouldn't put Alabama in the top three.
Aren't there still undefeated teams ahead of them?
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Yeah? I don't know, but otherwise that's fine. Carry on
all right? Right?
Speaker 3 (35:41):
The top three moments from last night's game three. I
thought we could kind of workshop this as a group.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Okay, Freddy Freeman's number one, right, because the walk off
home run, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Yeah? I would say yes, I would say at that
that moment, and.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Then I would say, show haze home run the seventh
his number two. It's probably number one, but it didn't
end the game. That's where I be complicted.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
Hm.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
I I'll say the Edmund throwed a third on the
backing up of the line drive off of Freeman's glove.
That Varshow hit we to back up That play I
thought was amazing. I don't know if it's top three worthy.
(36:29):
I felt it was more important though, than the play
at the plate where I actually think that Freddie Freeman
passed David Schneider when Freeman was trying on his home
run kuse Schneider was still running from a third to home.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
In that scenario. Take him forever, forever.
Speaker 7 (36:49):
The athleticism, and they're showing it right now in FS
one of Tommy grabbing the ball while at the same
time doing a slide to star, set his feet and
throw a bullet to months ago, I was pretty slick.
I mean, this is just like elite athleticism. I love
(37:09):
Tommy Edmund.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
I agree, and I think that the just the play
to back up how many times do guys actually play
their position field their positions. Maybe he's going down there
to to cut off so it so it helped him
in that spot. But to be in that spot and
do what he needed to do, because if it doesn't,
it goes bouncing around the corner, goes ricocheting here, there
(37:31):
and everywhere. Then maybe a run scores. But I thought
that that was huge as well.
Speaker 7 (37:35):
I'm gonna say it's an amalgamation of each time. Will
Klimb struck out the final batter of the inning and
just got pumped, and he just started smiling. He was
a guy enjoying his time on the highest stage, a
relative unknown, smiling, smiling all the while, oh.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Will quint all right quickly?
Speaker 3 (37:56):
Final one the best three times to stay up late
until Okay, I stayed up till blank last night. What
are the three top three times to stay up until
uh midnight?
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Is one?
Speaker 4 (38:09):
Okay, made it till the next day?
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Yeah, two am is two, and then sneaky is like
eight pm. It's like eight pm, like, oh, I stayed
up till you and then I shut it down. Snug
gotlip shop. I'll explain the top of next hour. I'll
explain that one. Plus we got Tuesday morning quarterback in
the afternoon next to the Doug Gotlieb shop
