(00:21):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. How you doing? Yeah?
What's doing your world? It's a Friday to my people. Shabbatulam? Yeah,
I said it, shot Salom. It's okay. We got a
ton of things working today on The Doug Gottlieb Show.
I I think today is going to be one of
(00:43):
those days where you look back and you're like, man,
they killed it. They killed it. Yes, it will be kilt.
It will be Uh. What do the kids say? Do
they still say lit? Not really sure if they still
say lit? I'll ask my son my son and I
are my son Hayes has a basketball tournat in Dallas,
(01:07):
Texas over the weekend. So I'm gonna drive to Dallas
tonight with him and pretty exciting. Right, those of you
who are old enough, you you kind of get it
right where it it does become on sun level. The
best the best part of your parenting is when you're
in the car driving right, You just you have that
(01:29):
kind of sequestered audience. It's so great. The best part
of parenting is when you're you're at home with them.
I mean, excuse me, you're in the car with them.
Sometimes it's a sad thing, like hey, I can't just
but they're you know, when they're teenagers and they have
their own friends. You get in the car for a
three hour drive and they cannot escape, nor would they
(01:52):
ever want be a bit be able to escape. It's

I have never hated say I told you so, but
(02:14):
I did, in fact tell you so. That when Greg
Popovich and pop has been through a lot, right, his
wife died a couple of years ago and he had
a stroke this year. I said, yeah, that's that's probably it, right,
that's probably the last that he'll that's probably the last
that he'll coach for the for the San Antonio Spurs.
(02:38):
That that was my that was my guess. And now
Mitch Johnson's going to take over. You heard it from
Dan Byer. And of course, uh, part of that is
Greg Popitch can to remain on as president of the team.
It will require less travel, less stress, and he'll still
be able to be part of it. What's interesting to
me is how you get people in in the TV
(03:06):
and radio world who are bright enough, but they want
to say, well, this person should be that person should be.
How can you do this? Would we all agree that
if you start, maybe we want to agree if you
are going to use one word to describe the San
Antonio Spurs and how they operate and how they've played.
(03:29):
And I'll grant you it's been like almost a decade
since they've been at the championship level. But if we
ask ourselves honestly, hey, there's been twenty five years of
the Spurs being a very very good franchise and you know,
five or six of those years then being a championship
(03:50):
caliber franchise, and I asked you to describe them in
one word, there'll be two words I think that would
come to your mind. Two words. Dan Byer, what guess
one of those two words we would use to describe
the San Antonio.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Spurs, Doug, I honestly have no idea.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
I mean just I'm asking you. I say, Spurs organization.
Just the first word that comes to your mind in
describing them.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Consistency.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Oh that's not one I thought. But that's a really
good one. Okay, it's thought solid. Jason Stewart, one word.
I know what Jason Stewart's word is going to be.
Almost I almost guess it. Jay Stu, what would the
word be.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
To describe the Spurs?
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Uh? Huh?
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Multiple championships?
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Okay? That wasn't that was? That was more than one word.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
See, this is not as easy of an exercise as
you think, though.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
It's okay, listen, I can be wrong at things. It's fine.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Well you're not wrong.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Chris Purfett. Give me. Give me the word that you
think of most with the Spurs.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Can I pick up the slack and do two different words?
Speaker 1 (04:56):
There?
Speaker 4 (04:56):
They're one word each, but I've got two different answers.
Big yea to have a lot of big men, good
big men, boring, ah.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Boring is one. I thought there'd be two words that
you'd say, boring and smart. Right, we wouldn't describe them
as fun. No one's ever gone like, you know what's fun?
And I I'm somebody we went there for the final four.
I enjoy san Antonio. I think Santo is just right.
Like I love the fact that you can get to
(05:25):
Austin without maybe paying Austin prices. But no one says like,
hey san Antonio, san Antonio spurs and you're like, they're fun,
they're exciting, they're thrilling. There. I would say boring is
generally a thought of Maybe that's most more fans Dan
(05:47):
More fans Jay Stu. But boring is a word, and
I think smart is the other word. Men. Maybe consistency.
That's a good word, because they have been consistent and
they have been competitive. But part of that is is
because they've been kind of more than spectacular, and they've
been smart in how they've been built. Right, efficient is intelligent?
(06:10):
Consistent is it takes toughness and intelligence? I think the
two words describe them are boring and smart. And so
who did they hire today to replace the senior most
most successful coach currently coaching in the NBA. A guy
(06:31):
who is a nice player at Stanford in the early
two thousands, a guy who, if you know him, he
is those two things. Boring, smart, right, it's perfect. So
the point of it is, and you know, you hire
(06:52):
a coach that spent time in the G League. He's
spent time working his way up in the staff. You know,
he's played just enough professionally, he's played over he has
an appreciation for the FOBA game as well, because of
course Pop with his connections USA basketball, he's been around
that as well. So you get a well rounded guy
(07:12):
who goes to Stanford, graduates after playing four years there
and that was back when Stanford was really really good,
plays professionally, starts his coaching career, works his way up
from the G League to back of the bench to
front of the bench to acting head coach to head coach. Okay,
it's a boring path, but it's a really really smart
(07:34):
move from the Spurs. So you know, Colin will do
that kind of elevator pitch sort of thing right where
you go, Hey, you know you gotta you gotta use
you know, you got to pitch me in in two sentences,
what something is I'll just use the word game, and
the word game is pick out two or three words
(07:54):
to describe individual words to describe the Spurs, And I
like consistency. Like that, that's a good one. But I
would say two others that you could put in that
in with consistent would be boring and smart. And the
Spurs knocked out of the park not because they hired
the sexiest coach or the most fun coach, or the
(08:15):
most interesting coach, or somebody's going to play in an
interesting style or somebody who's going to to freak out
in the sidelines. They didn't do what the Lakers did,
where you take a chance on somebody who's a former
player and a TV and podcast personality. They didn't. They
hired somebody from within who was both boring and smart.
(08:37):
And the point to it is, you know, I got
a chance to spend some time with my daughter Harper yesterday.
Congratulations to Harp. She was the horseman of the Year
for Oaklhoma State's a questioner in the fences. Now, that
doesn't mean that she was the rider of the year,
the horseman of the year. As a freshman, she has to
come in. She does everything except this year writing them
(09:01):
in shows right. But the point is that if you
ask anybody about my daughter, they'll say she really knows
who she is. And one of the keys to life
is knowing who you are. Right. Part of finding the
right spouse is knowing who you are, so you know
not just what you're attracted to, but what you need
(09:22):
in your life. It's the key to finding the right job.
What's the right job that will fulfill you, that will
fill up your cup on a daily basis, that will
make you want to go to work more, will make
you want to work at home, and to perfect your job,
all of these things that all comes down to knowing
who you are. And what the Spurs have done is
they've planned, They knew this moment was probably coming, and
(09:45):
they executed, and they executed in the type of fashion
that the Spurs. It's a Friday kind of a news
dump Friday. Kentucky Derby's coming up tomorrow, the Oaks are today.
It's not the top level story of the day. It's whatever, Hey,
we're hiring a guy you probably forgot about that's boring
and smart, and we're going to just keep building this
(10:06):
thing the same way it was built previously. Which was
David Robinson built a championship roster and then ultimately added
Tim Duncan and then had several incarnations of greatness with
Tim Duncan and Monogenobli and Tony Parker. And now they
have Stefan Castle, they have Victor Webbin Yama. They added
uh god, what's the point guard? They added dar fo Den,
(10:29):
Darren Fox right, very likely to add somebody else in
the off season, and kind of a way they go.
The point is the Spurs know who they are. They
are boring, they are smart, and when you hire somebody
who replicates that in terms of as a hire, that
(10:49):
shows that you know who you are as a company,
who you are as a team, who are as a franchise,
and knowing who you are is a big piece of
the pathway to success.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Stug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. So the Titans gentlemenager
of Mike Borganzi was quoted as saying this, we're gonna
name it. We're not gonna name any starters here though,
right now in the off season, so they're not handing
cam Ward the job in the off season. So that
(11:36):
leads to the age old conversation of do you make
a guy earn it or do you just kind of
give him the gig and say, eh, you know, what
did you think we're gonna do when we drafted a
guy number one? Overall? I don't hate it, I just don't.
(11:56):
We'll play for you, we'll flush it out a little
bit more once we get to the pod, but we
all know he's eventually going to start at quarterback this
year for the Titans, right, and so not handing him
the reins and say, you know, here's the football, here's
my team. Like, ah, make him earn a little bit,
(12:17):
let him show his leadership, let him show how good
he can be, let him win over his teammates. I
do think that's the right path. But remember, if you
read this quote, it's the offseason. Once they get ready
for the season, can warder to be the starter? And
he is different than some other quarterbacks. He's played a
lot of football, a lot of football, so I, you know,
(12:39):
I think that this is there's nothing offensive in any
way about Borgonzi saying kim Ward won't be the QB
one off the bat. Matter of fact, here's Titans head
coach Brian Callahan when he was asked about it.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
They'll have plenty of opportunities. How those reps get shaken
out will sort of be determined by how they perform
when given opportunities. That part of its and been thought out.
It's we have a plan in place, and what that
looks like is going to ultimately be sort of up
to them, you know, and how their performance goes when
when there's time to perform. So feel good about the
process and the planet.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, I
mean so you could even hear the matter of factness
in his voice. Yeah, Well, we'll figure out the reps,
We'll figure all that stuff, which what Callahan is saying
is we'll figure all that out. Like Kim Word's gonna
be the starter. It's just a matter of when we
name the starter, not if you know, as long as
he doesn't come in flipping the double birds that everybody
in the building and just gets better on a daily basis,
(13:35):
and nothing his personality tells us he do that s
Doug Gottlieb show, Fox Sports Radio. So apparently the best
way to get a head coaching job is to be
the interim head coach, right that that appears to be
what what everybody's doing. Just name the interim head coach,
the head coach. I think that's what's going to happen
(13:55):
in Denver.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Doug Doug Christy and yeah, yuh Like where'd you get him?
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Like, yeah, he's already kind of coach. He's already taking
that on. Mark Dominic joins us. He spent over twenty
years in NFL front offices. He'll join us upcoming. He's
a former gentlem manager of the Tempe Buccaneers. Did you guys,
have you guys seen some of the now the victimhood
of the store Sanders people and how can we be
(14:24):
critical of a college kid? And even Dion on his
Amazon show said that as well. It's like there's two
parts to it. One, I'm not demonized in Shdore, but
there's enough stories out there about about not engaging properly
in interviews to lead you to believe that's why he didn't.
(14:48):
He wasn't drafted. Honestly, Dan, I don't know what this
is like for you. I mean, everybody you know knows
that you're in sports, So I wonder how much people
ask that. A. I've been traveling this, you know, the
last couple of days since the draft or whatever week
it is since the draft, and it's all anybody talks
(15:09):
about is the shaudor Sanders thing. And I think when
it's when somebody's I can't remember who the quote was
that we told you about yesterday where he took them
more as recruiting visits than interviews, people started to nod
their head and understand without getting into specific details.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Sure, yeah, I know Albert Breer had some tidbits as
well that he blamed other players for things that were wrong,
and then when coaches disagreed with him on certain things,
they just chalked it up as different difference of opinion
or difference of philosophy. Not that they not that should
war was wrong in that situation. Just wasn't a fit
(15:47):
that sort of thing.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Yeah, that's what people say. That's how people say. It
just wasn't just wasn't a fit, just just wasn't a fit. Like, no,
you couldn't stand him. Mark Dominic joins us I spent
over twenty years in NFL front offices in scott and
scouting for more gentlemenager of the Tampay Buccaneers, When, when
you just did your pre draft grades and analysis, what
(16:09):
did you think of Shador Sanders the player.
Speaker 7 (16:13):
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie now, I didn't. I don't
study him the way I do. I'm a GM.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
You know.
Speaker 7 (16:17):
I put my tape on and I had him as
a bottom of the first is what I mean, just
being honest with you guys. Had him as bottom of the
first guy, not a chance to interview him, didn't know
the character, or the or the medical I did my
evaluation of them, so obviously I was high on him
going into the draft. But you know, they're much more privy.
When you're in the league, you're much more privy to
a lot more information. I think I have a good
(16:37):
sense of watching the door standers dropped.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Okay, we'll get to that in one second. Okay, when
you had him as an end of the first was
that end of the first round based upon the talent
in this draft? Or was that a Hey, no matter
what draft, I have him as a bottom of the
first round draft pick.
Speaker 7 (16:54):
I had him at the bottom of the first in
this class. You know, I think you and I, Doug
had been talking about Jackson Dart. I kept bringing up
Jackson Dart with you, like this guy's moving up the board,
he's he's going, because I could feel from momentum of
clubs that there was interest in Jackson Dart. I never
got that sense on Shador. I never like talked to
somebody or got a sense or of feeling like, you know,
(17:15):
this is the guy that we're really kind of hoping
to land. And so that made me a little bit
more nervous. But I thought Shandor could be But I
think clearly I wouldn't have melted down like mil Kuiper.
I would have been just like, Okay, obviously there's stuff
I don't know that's going on.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Okay, So what have you found out? You said, I
have a pretty good sense of why he fell the
way he fell. What have you learned?
Speaker 7 (17:40):
I think a couple of things. Number One, I don't
think if people really appreciated the offense. I think there
was a lot of offensive coordinators ago. It's very simplistic. It's
basically bubble screens and hitches and small routes. And then
when we take shots. We though it was are the
guy that's, you know, considered the best player of the
draft in Travis Hunter Henry and so I think that
(18:00):
was a big piece of it that really kind of
threw people outs, like, wait a second, how good is
he based off his completion percentage? In like what I
talked about with something I noticed was he would he'd
rather take a sack than throw the ball away. Those
two things were real. Here's what the grit I feel
now from clubs is clubs didn't feel like he's a
first round talent. They didn't feel like he's a starting
quarterback in the National Football Leager. And because of that,
(18:23):
because they didn't believe he was a lot of gms,
a lot of coaches, not owners. Owners don't collude. That's
all nonsense to say even something like that. But gms
and the head coaches go, well, if we don't think
he's number one, then that means he's number two. Do
we want him and everything that comes with him to
be our number two? And I think every club said
(18:45):
I'd rather not. I don't want all this, you know,
whatever that might be. It's like, oh, Shelder's better than
this guy or all the fan, and so I think
people are like, I just don't feel like he's the
number two we want. And I think that's where he
fell past when he dropped out a third round, I
was really blown away because that's like willis You know that?
That's where it's like, how do you not take Shador?
But I think everybody's so worried about what you're getting
(19:06):
with Shador in terms of dad, pressure, media and everything's
gonna want. If he doesn't play, if he plays level
of everybody expects, then.
Speaker 8 (19:17):
That's what you would think.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
You would think that that's what everybody was expecting. So
I think that's why he fell. And that's where Cleveland
came to the rescue. It said enough enough, will take
a shot, even though we've already dropped another quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Okay, we'll get to Cleveland in a second. But I've
heard the Kaepernick comparisons and I actually agree with it.
And it's from this standpoint. What happens is people lose
track of the of the Kaepernick comparisons. I don't believe
the league colluded on Kaepernick. Yeah you can. You can
feel otherwise. If I'm wrong, feel free. You know way
more about the league. You've probably forgotten more about the
NFL than I'll ever know. But but again, if we
(19:51):
take Kaepernick at his word, he wanted to be a starter.
Remember the one visit he had right after San Francisco
released him was in Seattle and Peek Harrold met with
the media and said, he wants to be a starter,
which means, hey, we got Russell Wilson. He's not a starter.
And it's a completely different approach mentality. It's a surrendering
to the fact that that guy's the starter. My job
is to make sure that he's ready every week and
(20:13):
then to be ready myself. But the offense is not
designed around me, not for me, And I think that's
what kept Kaepernick from ever getting a spot in the
NFL is because if you don't, if you're signing him,
people would celebrate. But when you cut him, people will
call you every name in the book, and they feel
like that you feel pressure to play a guy who
isn't as good as the guy who you have starting
(20:36):
based upon what the league thinks. I like the Colin
Kaepernick comparison when it's contextualized the right way, do you.
Speaker 7 (20:45):
Know, I get what you're saying, And I think there's
some I think there's fairness there. I mean, I think this.
I mean you can almost apply the same thing to
Tim Tebow. You know, I tried to recruit some people
after Ben quarterback in the NFL, say come play hvac,
complay tight end for that's in Tampa Bay.
Speaker 8 (20:59):
I talked to his aid.
Speaker 7 (21:00):
He didn't try to convince him and his agents like
Jimmy Sex, He's like Mark, He's just wants to play quarterback,
that's it. And I'm like, well, then he's not going
to play in the NFL. And it's kind of like
that's a bummer because I think he's got potential. I
think in your situation, the way you're framing, I think
it's fair. You know, Kaepernick at the beginning was I'm
a starter. I only want to be a starter. And
then when he when reality set in, he starts to
(21:21):
just want an opportunity. Well, it's four years, five years
since you played Colin.
Speaker 8 (21:24):
Like, sorry, that's not going to.
Speaker 7 (21:25):
Work this way anymore. We're moving on. So I do
think there is a comparison there that you can draw.
But I do draw the same comparison to Tim Tebow.
Tim Tebol could have probably played eight to ten years
of the NFL, but he only wanted to play one
position and he wasn't.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Good enough at its stuck out Leave show here on
Fox Sports Radio. Okay, Mark Dominic is our guest, former
gym manager tamp Bay Buccaneers. So Cleveland did in fact
draft Dalan Gabriel, and Dalan Gabriel is the guy that
people have said like he's bubblescreen, dnk and dunk. Not
a great athlete, not a great arm They also have
(22:00):
Deshaun Watson. We don't know if he ever takes the
field ever again coming off another Achilles ten and tear.
They have Kenny Pickett, they have Joe Flacco. What would
that be like, what do you think that's gonna be
like to manage in Cleveland?
Speaker 7 (22:16):
Well, I think it's gonna be a I mean, Joe's
not going to be a one of these youngs trying
to create his own things of Joe Black when the
Goldie is and things like that. So Joe's going to
be in there is like I'm going to be the
starter and these young kids can watch me play. I
don't think Deshaun Watson ever plays another down. I do
believe that's true.
Speaker 8 (22:36):
And I think what.
Speaker 7 (22:36):
You're going to do there is you know, you're probably
gonna keep all three quarterbacks in the fifty three and
see what you know Shador can do. I think she
Doer is more talented. I think she Doer is a
better quarterback. We will see how that plays out. I
do feel like he's a better quarterback, and maybe he
wins the number two jobs and you know, in the end,
maybe it's perfect. Maybe he gets the sit of season
behind Joe Flacco and learn and become a starter.
Speaker 8 (22:58):
Who knows.
Speaker 7 (22:59):
I don't Cleveland for what they did. I think in
the fifth round, you know, I think because of the connection.
I think that you know, you can see it at
Prime was happy to be in Cleveland or his dad
was happy for Cleveland to take him anywhere in the draft.
I would sit there and say, it may not work
out all that bad for Shador in the end. So
I think it was a I think it was the
right move for Cleveland to make the move and just
(23:19):
set a clout on the field of the practice field.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Going to be interesting. Whose draft did you like the most?
Speaker 8 (23:27):
Well?
Speaker 7 (23:28):
There are a few teams that I thought really did
a great job. When you kind of break them down.
You know, when you get to the bottom of the
first round, you know, there's a lot to be said
about what Kansas City did with sim And I just
think there's a chance they just found their booking left
tackle for the next ten years. And even though he's
coming out from the injury, when you're picking that low.
Speaker 8 (23:47):
And you have a chance to do that, that's incredible.
I think that's a really.
Speaker 7 (23:50):
Strong testament of what they've been able to do there
when you take advantage of that, when you go back
more towards the middle rounds of the draft and say, Okay,
who really pulled it together? You know, I like what
Green Bay did. I like Matt Golden. I think he's
a really great route and I think he's a number
one they've been looking for. I think that's a big
deal for Jordan Love and company. So I mean, I
like what Green Bay did. I do like what Kansasity
(24:12):
was able to pull off. You know, I thought those
were two teams that kind of stood.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
Out a little bit to me.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
All Right, who's drafted? You do not like?
Speaker 8 (24:20):
I didn't like what Jacksville did. I don't think you
give up.
Speaker 7 (24:23):
That much collateral for a player that I don't think
there's any way he plays both ways that many snaps.
He won't make it. He just won't. And if he
proves me wrong after four years, God bless him and
get every penny you can. I just think that, you know,
people say, well, you gave up a number one this
year and number one next year for the number one receiver.
This year, your a number one cornerback, and I'm like, okay,
(24:44):
you go try to play seventy snaps each side of
the ball in the Nation Football League gainst twenty year
old men, and see how that goes. It's hard enough
to stay healthy when you're on one side of the ball,
and so I just think that that sounds good. It's
easy to say that it's a lot different to try
to do that.
Speaker 8 (25:02):
And then what jacksonell did because I don't.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
I just don't think Jacksonville's there yet in terms of
being a playoff team, and therefore they just got a
really premium pick until you know, I just didn't love
that move at all, and I didn't.
Speaker 8 (25:13):
I thought their drafts was average.
Speaker 7 (25:15):
But I think that Movi's really gonna hurt to him.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Mike Bergonzi is the GM of the Titans, and he's like, hey,
basically not handing cam Wore the job in the offseason.
What do you think of that approach?
Speaker 7 (25:28):
It's Cam Wore's job. I mean, who are you handing
it to?
Speaker 8 (25:31):
Right?
Speaker 7 (25:31):
I mean, you're not going to give it back to
will Lews. I mean they could sit there and say
to hey, it's you know, we're going to have open competition.
I'll bet you when we talked in July, were catting
ready to go to that first preseason game, Cam Moore
suddenly became the number one quarterback. They're not gonna sit
around and you know, I have this fake situation where
will Lewis gets the hold one the number one, and
(25:51):
who knows who's gonna be quarterback? This is cam Wort's job.
It may not be the ideal way to do it
in terms of like thrusting the guy out there, But
I do think the Titans did a very good job
of putting together a really good offensive line mount and
I think that's a big piece of a puzzle for them.
And you know, I like their wide receiver corps now better.
So I think that the Titans most importantly got the
(26:12):
offensive line in a much better spot than they've been
in the last couple years, which will give cam Wore
a great shot. But this is cam Moore's team.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
You mentioned Jackson Dart. How do you think they use
him in New York this year with those two veteran
quarterbacks in front of him.
Speaker 8 (26:27):
Well, I think what they'll do is they'll they'll they'll sit.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Jackson as long as they can and see how those
guys play weeks three through five somewhere that range, and
if they struggle, then they'll let let the fans and
let the media and let everybody say, well, we'll play Jackson,
and all the fans and all the media will have
a lot more patience with Jackson Dark going well, he's
the future. Instead of throwing Jackson Dart out their week
one and he struggles every He's like, oh, it's another bum,
he's another bus. Now it's like if you put out
(26:53):
two wins. You know, if you put him out and
you say, hey, let's look at James Winston and see
how he plays, and he struggles and everybody's begging for
Jackson Dart, You're like, good, now he's in a spot
where people will be a little more patient with him.
He's a great runner. You could come up with packages
for Jackson Dart as well as having Jamis or whoever
be the starting quarterback that still can work. But I
think this is just going to be one of those
(27:14):
sit learn watch, But he'll play this season.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Any word on what Aaron Rodgers does.
Speaker 7 (27:20):
I think by what Pittsburgh did, I still think Aaron
Rodgers plays. I just think that Pittsburgh kind of sat
on their hands kind of with the the belief in
their quarterback room to some extent with Mason. But also
I think that they feel like that Aaron's going to play,
and that they're just being as patient as possible and
let this play out. So I still think Aaron Rodgers
plays for the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
You know what, is Kirk Cousins the backup plan?
Speaker 8 (27:43):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (27:43):
And I think that's reality, and I think that that's
a player that would make a lot of sense if
it doesn't come together. I just you know, Kirk Cousins
isn't going to be around Atlanta very much as much
as possible, and that's the only leverage he has to
do is try to try to do that. So I
think that's a very formidable blackup plan and I think
it's good.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Mark dominic. Over twenty years he spent in the front
offices of the NFL. He's a former Gentlem manager of
the Tampay Buccaneers. He joined us all season long. We're
not going to stop now, but we'll just stop for
the day. Mark. Thanks so much for joining us. We
really appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (28:12):
Thanks Doug.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Backing down a sorry Thompson at the logo plenty of
time left.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
We're tied at one thirteen.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Here in game six, Brunston between the legs Bible gets
rid of Thompson, walk up free.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Portal pick got it. The Klutch player of the Year
will not be.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
Any Shalen Brunson with four point three puts this in
front one sixteen O one thirteen.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
That from the the Detroit Pistons Radio Network. The Tyraq

This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Hey there, Dan, what's the game today?
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Doug? The game on this Friday is?
Speaker 5 (29:44):
I got DIBs?
Speaker 2 (29:46):
All right? I may have to add a category that
isn't even of the document we all have in front
of us, because of a tweet that I just saw.
But we start out, I throw out a topic and
everybody just grabs what they want grabs. The first come,
first serve of the first topic is legendary n B
A head coaches. What do you got DIBs on?
Speaker 1 (30:10):
I got pet Riley all right, pet Riley gave us
show time. He also gave us the New York Knicks,
who did get to the NBA finals, uh, did not
win a championship. And of course he's the architect of
(30:30):
all things Miami heat Rows.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I got who was also the coach, right of the
the championship that won was shot.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Right, Yeah, the first, the first, the first team. Yes.
Remember that was when stan Van Gundhi took spend more
time with his family.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
All right, alright, I got very hard to spend.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Time with your family, even a knife your back.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
I got DIBs on Chuck Daily, not not even for
the bad Boys thing, not even.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
For the ninety two Dream Team.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
It's tenure, no, no.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
No, no, no, no, no, University of Pennsylvania.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
No, it's for the hair, the best hair ever in
the NBA. On Chuck Daily's head.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
I got DIBs on Popovich most wins. Take that seems
like a funny guy. The whole shack foul thing. Saw
that clip making its rounds today, Yeah, I'll take.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
I got DIBs on Red ar Bach. He does not
win best hair. Oh, I have we go Ciars, I
have been heavily invested in and then joined the hell
out of the Celtics documentary.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
It's very good. I'm still proud. I've still got like
two more episodes to go. But the r Bach parts
are amazing.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Yeah, you forget how much of a character he was
and how many championships they just ran off. Read our
Bach is my pick.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
I got to read our Bock story. I'll show it
you guys real quick. Read our Brooks Jewish and we
actually one of the time, as I went to Israel
played with one of these teams. He came and spoke
to us. And it was at George Washington University, which
I think is either all Arback Arena or Arbrock Court whatever.
I forgive me if you're a GW or your Chris
Caputo's our head coach. I forgot. Anyway, he's talking to us,
(32:19):
and he had he dribbled a little bit. And when
I mean dribbled, I don't mean a basketball. And I
was like, here's this like legendary iconic you know, you know,
you put the like in anybody's Mount Rushmore of basketball
of NBA coaches read our box on that list, and
I just you know, it's like all of us, all
(32:40):
we could say afterwards, was like, did did he? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Anyway, it sucks Phil Jackson was not taken in this.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
I was going to get to Phil Jackson.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
I mean, but we only have DIBs. You only get one.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Oh right, I forgot you did lay out the rules previously.
I forgot. All right, I got des Phil Jackson.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Maybe you could use them in the category later on.
Next category, the NBA first Round series that you'll miss
the most. The NBA first round series that you'll miss
the most.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
I'm gonna I've got DIBs on the Clippers Dunk Nuggets.
I'm enjoying this one.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
I know, I know once again the Homer thing has
come up, but the absolute fight in Nick Pistons has
for six games.
Speaker 3 (33:22):
I could have watched that for eleven.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
That was a run. I tweeted out run that back then.
I mean that was good. I like more basketball like that.
That was.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
That feels like an Eastern East Conference rivalry that's going
to be around for a few years if we're lucky.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
I got DIBs on Bucks Pacers for personal reasons, but
also you want to talk about chippiness. If the Bucks
win Game five, yes, and if they would have won
Game six, and lost in Game seven. We could have
seen an enormous brawl.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
You want chippiness, I give you Houston Golden State. I
got nibs Houston Golden State. A couple of the most
hated players in the league going against each other. That's there.
There you go, and you got step Kurt Stephen Gurty.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
All right favorite all time New York Nick.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
I got dims on Phil Jackson because here was disrespected
in the first round. I need to include him in
the segment.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
I got dims on Pat Ewing, Patrick Chewing. I do
wish he would have won an NBA title. I feel
that his career is incomplete without it. I feel that
he got a lot of flack. I feel that there
were the other centers that have taken over and were
(34:35):
more I don't know popular at that time. Obviously, Elijah
Wan was magnificent beating him in the ninety four finals,
Shack coming on and dominating, and I feel Pat Ewing
got lost a little in the in the shuffle.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Um, I'm gonna go with Mark Jackson. Mark Jackson big
favorite way I was back when he was Action Jackson,
when you just got in the league, played for my
late head coach John McCleod, Mark Jackson.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
All right, does either quickens hurt? It's the game within
a game. Yes, I wasn't able to get to Bob
on the image and so I'll just do my own.
It's time for explain your tweet. Okay, So you uh
you quote tweeted Jason McIntyre today saying that the Knicks
are the best Nick player in the history is Jalen Brunton.
(35:32):
And then you gave the gift or whatever you call
that of the office gentleman rolling his eyes. What's going
on there?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
It's a horrible take. I love Jaylen Brunston. He's my
favorite player to watch in the NBA. It's he's in
no conversation with the greatest ex effort. Okay, I mean, uh,
Senator Bradley could have been that date to Busher, could
have been that. Walt Clyde Fraser could have been in it.
(36:03):
John Starks easily could have been in Larry Johnson could
have been in it. There's a lot of different places
you go, but I mean Patrick Ewing's career compared to
Jalen Brunston's career, like what are we what are we
doing here? And I love Jalen Brunson.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
I'm just glad I didn't have to get it.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Next, is is Bronson better than Mellow?
Speaker 1 (36:25):
And we don't even mention Carmel Anthony. I think he
is because I think he's more of a winning player.
But Carmelo Anthony was the best scorer in the league
and he'd go to an Eastern Conference Finals. Have the
Knicks gone to an Eastern Conference Finals?
Speaker 3 (36:36):
No?
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Yeah, that's game time.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
This is game time on the Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Who's the most clutch player in the NBA and why
didn't they double team him?
