(00:51):
We're ready to talk sports.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Are you? Are you? Uh? We got a lot to
get to. I like this Chris Finch story. Hmm.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I think I want to start with the Wolves getting
beaten badly by the Warriors, and the Warriors didn't have
Steph Curry much of the game when he played thirteen
minutes and won't have him for Game two. And yet
I think as much as we'd like it to be
about the Warriors and how great they were defensively, we

(01:30):
also need to point out that maybe some of it
was that Anthony Edwards and the and the Wolves weren't
ready to play.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Don't believe me. Here's Chris Finch, the head coach of
the Wolves, talking about his young star.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Starts with Anthony.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
You know he I thought he's was you know, he
struggled early and then you could just kind of see the.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Light go out a little bit for.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
A while, and then you know, obviously we had to
try to get him going.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
In the second half.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
But I think, you know, it was one of those
games where he kind of came out with a predetermined
mindset that he was trying to do, and just rather
than just playing a game that was in front of him,
what is.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
There to talk about?

Speaker 5 (02:06):
I mean, you're they're they're the leader of the team,
and you got to come out and set the tone.
You know, in all ways that that happens, and if
it's if your shots not going like you you still
have to carry.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
The energy, you know.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
So I don't think there's if I got to talk
to guys about having the right energy coming into opening
around game, opening the second round game. Then you know
we're not you know we're not on the same page.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
So Stug Gottleeb Show here on Fox Sports Radio, I
think here's where you go from star to superstar and
here's what differentiates guys. And I think some of it
for Anthony Edwards was like, look, I love the celebration
after you beat the Lakers. I love walking the streets

(02:52):
of LA and talking talking trash. I think that is awesome,
truly really awesome. But it's just a first round series. Dude,
you didn't win the NBA Championship and you have to
act like which you have.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Been there before.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
So there's a little bit of the hey, you know,
there's a lot more basketball to be played. The second
part to it is can you play well when you're
not playing well? And there's a difference. And the reason
that I was never a big mellow guy not because
Carmelo Anthony. There's probably a five year stretch there when
he was the best scorer in the league. Three level
scorer obviously better than the mid range, which is kind

(03:32):
of died off, but he could really score, but could
Carmelo Anthony do anything to help your team when he
wasn't scoring. The answer was no, and Anthony Edwards at
some point could be described as such, Right, if you're
not making shots, what else can you do? Whereas we
saw Steph Curry and I don't think Steph Curry affects
the game defensively like he should.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Like the best of the best of the best of
the best do.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
But Game seven against the Rocket, Steph Curry wasn't scoring,
and yet he still had great effect on the game,
great effect in the game. Uh, here's Jimmy Butler and
Buddy Heal. They had this exchange after the game.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
Draymond declared that tonight Jimmy became Batman and Buddy went
from Alfred to Robin. Do you guys have any comments
on that declaration.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
No, I'll start out. I'll start out.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
No no, no, no, no, no no no.

Speaker 7 (04:22):
I'm Batman today.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
I saved today.

Speaker 7 (04:26):
He's still robbing, all right, Well I'm still robbing, yes,
and Steph still Batman and uh, buttered is still who
he is.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
But he he had another good game. Manpt for that
stupid thing you did at the beginning of the game.
When you have on the right shorts. It's not real
Robin and or Batman like fuddy, what happened with the
wardrobe malfunctions?

Speaker 7 (04:53):
Jimmy stretched out, that's Jimmy fall.

Speaker 8 (04:55):
Okay, Jimmy, and that's what happens. I was looking at
my show and I thought it was right when he said, yo,
put these on, it was right.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
And that was the that's that's what you're going Yeah,
I'm going on Jimmy. Is Jimmy Faulk is the lockers
next to my locker. I was looking at my shorts. He'said, Joe,
I can't have on my shorts.

Speaker 7 (05:11):
Oh see there, And I put them on a look
just alike, and after that that all fine for it.
So cool.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
It was Jimmy fault Liam Jimmy.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Uh, pretty funny back and forth. Well, you're listening to
the only guy in America that has had a similar
type of wardrobe malfunction. He had the practice shorts on,
not the game shorts on right, so he had to
run back into the locker room and Jay Stu, I
know this is a big thing.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
It's been a big thing for all of us.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
It's see, this is what happens when you're wearing your
non traditional uniforms. Right, they're wearing their black road uniforms,
and those were black shorts. It wasn't terribly noticeable unless
you were actually looking really really close. But if you
had one set, normal set of uniform that looked very
distinctly different than your practice uniforms, this would never happen.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Correct, That was my point.

Speaker 9 (06:03):
And you telling me that that was a practice shorts,
that's news to me. I thought this was like the
shorts of another alternate uniform that they that he had
in his locker room. So it makes a little bit
more sense now. I want to I want to, I
want to go back to your situation. You had put
your shorts on backwards and then you put your sweats on,
and it was in the middle of the game or

(06:25):
before the game. How did that come to be?

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Again?

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Uh, we're playing at Kansas. This is in March of
nineteen ninety nine, so twenty six years ago. It was
senior night for the Jayhawks. We were that year. We
had gotten into the habit it started the year before
of flying in the day of the game. All our
guys liked it, so we flew intoating it.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Well.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Because of weather, we had to land in Kansas City.
Because we land in Kansas City, we didn't have a
shoot around time, So we got in early to Lawrence
for the game. By early, I mean I think we
we you know, landed I would say noon or one o'clock,
and then we busted over from Kansas City to Lawrence,
which is like, you know, we landed downtown because we

(07:12):
were on private not at MCI, which is.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Way up north in the boondocks.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
And you know, let's say we got to I think
we got to Lawrence at like one, went to a
hotel and had a pregame meal and then took a nap,
and then the game, you know big Monday games back then,
we're like eight o'clock starts. So instead of getting there
at I don't know, seven thirty, maybe we're there at seven.

(07:42):
I mean instead again there at six thirty, we were
there at six or maybe instead again there at seven,
were there at six thirty. We got like a half
hour extra time to shoot because we didn't have shoot
around that day because of the travel and whatnot. So
when we would get to the gym, a teammate of mine,
his name is Adrian Peterson's the third all time Lean
scorer Oklahoma State History. He and I would often like

(08:02):
kind of race, like neither of us taped to go
warm up or whatever. And so we get there, throw
on our shorts, not put on our jerseys, just put
on back. Then I wore a ribbed white tea underneath
my jersey. I think we all know what the ribbed
white tea is. Somehow, the sarcastic nickname of that is

(08:23):
somehow offensive. I'm not really sure how, but regardless, So
throwing the rib white tea, then throwing the shooting shirt
over it, throw on my shorts, you know, and I had,
like there were these gray undershorts that people used to work.
Everybody called them grays. I put my grays on over
my underwear, and then over that was my shorts, and

(08:45):
then over the shorts was my you know, the the
tear away short, tearaway pants. And so then when it
you come back for game time, you'd come back in
and after you know, the first time, after the first
time you'd warm up, you'd throw on your actual jersey,
put the jersey on over the rid white t then
put the shooting shirt back on. So now you have
shooting shirt and tear away sweats in the bottom, and

(09:08):
so I again, I never really looked at my shorts.
I had tear away sweats on over the shorts ever
since I put those shorts on. That's my It's not excuse,
that's the explanation. And then you know, you get caught.
You starting lineup, you're in the game. I actually believe
or not, had come out of the game and come
back into the game, and no one on our bench
had noticed it or said anything. And we're at the

(09:30):
free throw line and they started yelling shorts on backwards,
shorts and it sounded like shirts on backwards. So I
looked at my shirt and like, now I'm good. And
then I kind of looked over my right shoulder and
saw that the OSU was on my right hamstring and
realized what I had done. We called time out, switched
the shorts around.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Good to go, what's it? There you go? There you go?

Speaker 3 (09:55):
But wolves not ready to play. Anthony Edwards tremendous, great talent.
But to be a great player, you got to be
able to play well when you're not playing well.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
He could not.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
And how about the Warriors able to do it mostly
without Steph Mostly that's stuff. Plus we had the Pacers
winning after being down seven with under a minute left,
and for the second consecutive night, a team up three
with under ten seconds to go fouls intentionally and loses
the game at home.

Speaker 8 (10:26):
At home, be sure to catch the live edition of
The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Dan Byer, have you
seen the Utah mammoths new unif for the uniforms which
have made its way on social media, which the announced today?

Speaker 4 (10:53):
Yeah, so the team colors are the same from what
they had this past season. But yes, I've seen the logos,
seen seen the tusks up for the Utah Mammoth starting
play next year.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Are you? I mean you are a resident beautiful critic.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
So the mammoth mascot goes to the obviously the prehistoric days,
if you will, Mammoth fossils found in Utah. Bit of
a stretch, but hey, whatever whatever works for him. I
don't mind the color. I think it's a I don't
love the black, but I think the blue is fine.

(11:31):
I love the logo and if you look at the
mammoth logo. It's got some hidden things in there, Easter eggs.
If you will, you can see the state of Utah.
And then I think they did a really good job
with the logo. I'm just happy that they're not staying
Utah Hockey Club.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
So I'm looking.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
I'm looking at the I'm looking at the logo. And
for people who haven't seen it, okay, it looks like
the first glance, you're like, oh, I see the tusk,
and I see the.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
What is it called on a mammothist stout?

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Okay, And then you see the eyes. It looks fairly fierce.
And then you're like, wait a second, I see mountains.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Yep, not in this mountains Washatch mountains, Wasatch Mountains.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Where is the state of Utah in there?

Speaker 4 (12:16):
So if you look on the left, yeah, upper left
hand of the logo at an angle is the state
the state of Utah outline. It's like the silhouette.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Yeah, yes, I see that. Clever, clever, clever. What else?
What are the other Easter eggs in there?

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Oh? I know I noticed the Utah one when I
saw renderings of it previously. The someone said that the
tusk is the shape of a U for this state
of Utah. See that, and see that as well that
the M on the bottom of the state of Utah
that we have is for the mammoth as well.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Oh okay, yep, okay, I like it. What about the
actual uniforms themselves and the and the gear You're okay
with all that?

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Like, I don't know if it matters.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
Yeah, I'm I'm not. I'm not a huge hockey sweater guy.
I like the one with the mammoth on it as
opposed to the one that just says says Utah. Yes, correct,
It's it's better when you have more letters when you
do the diagonal, like with Rangers, University of Wisconsin where's
there's where it has Wisconsin down that way. When you

(13:28):
only have four letters, it doesn't work as well.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
And which team is this that? What was this.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Originally Phoenix Coyotes, that was the Phoenix.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Cotes that we used to be the Winnipeg Jets that
became the Phoenix Cotes and now is the Utah Menmoth and.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
The current Winnipeg Jets were the Atlanta Thrashers.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Right, everybody good?

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Sure stuck out leap show here on Fox Sports Radio
there's something you were saying by her, It was it
was a football thing that I wanted to get.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
To Pickens deal.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
No, obviously I want to start to start talking about
the Pickens deal. But yeah, Pickens for a Dickens and
a sixth for a third to fifth? Is it feels like,
please take them.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Off our hands. It just does. And part of it is,
obviously I know he's gonna, you know, want a new deal.
Part of it is it's.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Kind of been a pain the aster in his fresh
and they're in his rookie deal, and you wonder, like, again,
if it's fantasy football on paper, Pickens on one side
and Ceedee Lamble the other side, it's great, but there's
a lot of ego in that room, a lot of
ego in that room. Did I mention there's a lot

(14:38):
of ego in that room.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
They gonna they're gonna need a lot of offense too,
And I think that's kind of what they're they're aiming on,
just try to maybe outscore people.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeah, well that let's ask Matt Mosley. He he would
know better than us.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Matt Mosley hosts The Doomsday Podcast, columnist for Fox Sports.
Of course, Uh, he's done his own radio show as well,
covering the day, among other things, the Dallas Cowboys and
Matt We didn't see much movement from the Cowboys all
off season.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Now, this what's your reaction?

Speaker 10 (15:10):
You know, this is what Jerry doug has been hinting
at for a while. We thought he was just talking,
trying to drum up a little draft interest, But he
was trying to make something happen. And a lot of
times when people start doing all the goofiness of trying
to break news and people that don't normally break news,
it's just his talk. But then last night it started

(15:32):
heating up, and so I just find it funny that.
I mean, I think it's a good deal for the Cowboys.
Actually both teams probably works out because I think Tomlin
was probably sick of pickings and the way he acted
on the field especially, and the last memory I have
of him is like playing against the Cowboys and fighting
Jordan Lewis on the field. And I mean again, but

(15:55):
this team is known for having wide receivers like George Pickens,
who will either get in fights on the field or
on the sideline or constantly chirping, and so they're at
least sort of used to this. Now it's brilliant if
he truly will take the opinion of coming in here

(16:15):
and like playing for his next contract and sort of
using this. But now, if they're expected to put some
kind of great deal together for him, if he's expecting
something like that, he and his agent, then they come
to the wrong place because the Cowboys love to make
people wait until the last second. They don't get things done.
They're not proactive on contracts. So if he's got that

(16:38):
sort of attitude. But if he's got the attitude of like,
this is a prove it type season, then I think
both sides have come to a good place.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Yeah, you nailed it right. It's the Steelers are all
about culture. He didn't fit their culture. The Cowboys are
trying to be all about players, and he's a player.
You can make plays. Now, the question is can they
make it work? You know questions can can they? Can
they make it work? What is the true outlook for
this Cowboys team? Now they've added George.

Speaker 10 (17:08):
Pickens, well, they still you know, have some question marks
at running back, which has become an annual thing. You know,
maybe they can find an aging back they can bring in.
They love that they love to get about a thirty
year old guy who's broken down and get him back
there and see what he can do. But they actually
have some decent veterans. And then that Jayden Blue that

(17:30):
they got from Texas. Obviously, I've seen him play a
lot because of where I'm from, and he is dynamic,
good pass catcher, great speed, all of that. So who knows,
he may emerge as kind of the next Tony Pollard,
so to speak, who was pretty good for them for
a brief amount of time. I think it's really going

(17:50):
to come down to how this O line shakes out.
And we've got everybody you know talking about like they've
assembled the line, like they've gone back to the days
of Nate Newton and that bunch, you know, and Larry Allen.
I think that's a little attle early to that party.
But I would say that like if that Tyler gotten
from Ou by way of TCU, if he can actually

(18:13):
play and play left tackle, then they may assemble. Because
this new guy from Alabama means business that Tyler Booker,
Tyler Smiths are really good players, So I mean they
could have the makings of a pretty good offensive line.
So I think I would say I have changed their
trajectory to and again they now have the Super Bowl

(18:35):
champs and another great team. So they've gone from sort
of being back and forth with the Eagles on an
annual basis to now having two teams in the division
you know, that are really good. So I think everybody
would think they're probably the third team heading in. So
I probably the ceiling for this thing would be ten wins.

(18:57):
I think if everything goes right, this is a about
a ten and seven team and uh and what you know,
see if that makes the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Has that ever been a Jerry Jones team that people
actually thought ten and seven is a good thing?

Speaker 10 (19:13):
Well, no, no, I but I think based on last
season and how disappointing and how some of the I
think I think it would come across as like a
real bounce back, and I think it would be a
great place for the Schottenheimer era to begin. And well,
you can't imagine the feel good story this is around here.

(19:36):
It's like everybody at first was real mad and like,
what in the world, what is this higher? But I've
actually been out there, spent time around him, these rookies,
and like in the building and like it's a whole
different sort of approach.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Now, I compet He changed their chairs, That's what he did.

Speaker 10 (19:53):
He had the name being sarcastic, and I understand that
that's that's what you do. And you know what, yeah
you have you.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Didn't if it if okay, let me just ask you this.
Matt Mosey is our guest here. Doomsday Podcast covered the
Dallas Cowboys. This is Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox
Sports Tradio. Let me just let me just ask you
right now. Okay, so let's say, who's the What am
I forgetting? Who's the coach of the of the Commanders.
He's doing a really good job. I know Cliff does

(20:21):
the offense.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
It's used to pwo U.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Okay, So had Dan Quinn gone into the Commanders last
year and said, hey, everybody get up and change your seat,
you would have spent a good portion of your show
going what are we doing here?

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Right? Like?

Speaker 2 (20:39):
What are we doing? Cowboys? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Oh yeah, there's a breath of fresh air. Everybody just
changed their their seats.

Speaker 10 (20:48):
I mean, I that's not really what I'm basing it on.
I would I have written on the old Moseley blog,
which I think ESPN still misses greatly. Could I have
done five thousand words on that very thing, him changing
some lockers around you? Certainly? You bet, you bet I
could have done that. But I'm comparing this more more
than that. It's like oursels left. Of course, McCarthy, you

(21:12):
can't compare the parcels. But I do remember when Wade
came in and there was sort of a breath of
fresh air, and the way the team and the players
were treated, and all I do see, I do see
sort of a difference. And by the way, unbeknownst to
a lot of people, there's people in that building that
were really sick of Mike McCarthy and and Jerry is

(21:35):
not one of them. I don't think Jerry. I think
Jerry wanted to keep him and he couldn't. You know,
he couldn't. He tried to. He tried to get him
on some kind of weird short term deal, and McCarthy said, no,
I'd rather go back to the analytics bar and hold
up with my guys. So, you know, but Schottenheimer or
there's something again. It may he may fall in his face,

(21:57):
but I'm just telling you, Doug, all you have to
do is just come on to campus, come on to
the Star, spend a little time around with him, and
then you'd have a you'd have a little different outlook
and you wouldn't be making fun of him for changing lockers.
But putting Micah over next to Dak. Doug, let's see
what that does. I think it could really, it could
really get things moving in the right direction.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Yeah, well, well we shall see. Matt Mosey is our
guest here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
What about Dak right coming off of another injury this year,
but does have a new contract. How does this change
how he has to play? Giving him another talented wide receiver,

(22:39):
but a guy who thinks he's open every single every.

Speaker 10 (22:42):
Single play, well he's going to have to take command.
And I mean he and CD are really good friends
and close, but they certainly have had their issues, like
on the sideline during games. I think CD. CD's family
likes to get involved on social media. Now they've involved
somebody else, Pickens, who's not exactly going to come in

(23:04):
there hat in hand, like will show me where the
number two wide receiver lines up. But I think I
think Dak is the unquestioned leader. I do think there's
a feeling around this team that especially losing Zach Martin,
who is kind of a grimy, tough guy that Tyler Smith,
by the way, is very tough in your face kind

(23:26):
of you know, he's fairly quiet, but he's a really
good leader. But I think they thought they needed some
more dogs, so to speak, more guys that would come
in and be ready to fight a little bit. And
I think they probably have that in Pickens. Now could
it turn ugly? And does the guy love to get
in fights and get fined and do stuff on the field.

(23:47):
Does he like to take a few plays off? You
bet he does. But I don't know. This has gone
from the most unexciting ceedee Lamb and the Pips. I mean,
think about who they're going to have, Jalen Tolbert and
Jonathan Mingo. I mean that was going to be your
second and third receiver, and on paper, at least, Lamb
and Pickings become one of the more exciting duos around.

(24:12):
I mean, you know the Eagles, yeah they got two,
they got two really good ones. But the Cowboys at
least are in the conversation now, I mean the Giants
have one. And now the Cowboys have two. So anyway,
I think, I think, I think Dak will be will
be fine. The thing is canny. Hold up. I mean
you know it's got makes sixty million dollars a year

(24:34):
and he's just he just gets injured so much. Now
that Jerry did not want to do this deal, and
because Jerry is never proactive, like I said earlier, and
he waits, he got forced into doing just a horrible deal.
And listen, these deals never work out, right, I mean,
like this sixty million a year deal is going to

(24:56):
look horrific by the time it's over. The Zeke deal
when Zeke held out. But see, guys know they can
break Jerry. I mean, if your parsons don't even get
near training camp, you don't even get near the field.
I mean you, I mean why in the wall wouldn't
you hold out and then become the highest paid pass
rusher in the history of the game. I mean, that's
how everybody plays Jerry. So anyway, he's he's lost his fastball.

(25:20):
When it comes to negotiating, still great Noel and gas industry,
but when it comes to negotiating with players, it's a
it's a struggle.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Uh, that's the voice of Matt Moseley, who you can
hear on the Doomsday Podcast, covering, among other things, the
mostly the Dallas Cowboys most you're the best man, Thanks
for joining us.

Speaker 10 (25:39):
Hey, thanks. We lost all our players in the portal,
so if you can send anybody out away, we'd appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Ohkle mistake out my best player. So so I'm fresh
out of guys at that level.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
Appreciate that.

Speaker 10 (25:49):
Seems that seems uncool.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
All right, I'll see you, all right, Matt Moses Junius Bayer.
Did you read that story where the where the big
move is uh for Brian Schottenheimer is he made everybody
get up and change chairs.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Couldn't have sit in the same seat as last year.
Everything's different this year?

Speaker 4 (26:11):
Yeah, was it? Micah Parsons and Dak are next to
each other.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Well, they're lockers next to each other.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
Yes, yes, yes, So get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Yeah, that's not really that never mind, Just let coach
go with it. Right, does any of that stuff? Do
people think that stuff wins games? Listen, I'll do it.
I'll try it if you'd like. Okay, what I'll come
into my locker room. We have a brand new locker
room this year and go hey, no, no, I want
you to go over there. Do you everybody switch? We're
gonna play the music, and when the music stops, you

(26:42):
and one guy might not have a locker.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
How many guys he got coming back to switch?

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Yeah? Well I get to six?

Speaker 4 (26:49):
Okay, all right, six coming back?

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Six coming back?

Speaker 4 (26:52):
So those six are unnoticed to change their seats.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Change and change your seats.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Do you like the pick and steal? Because I'll give
my thoughts.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
I think that I do like Pickens as a wide receiver.
I think a lot of people do. It's all the
extra stuff. But why not? I don't know. If you're
the Dallas Cowboys, and it's funny because you were talking
with Matt Moseley about Dan Quinn and we knew that
Kellen Moore was previously there. Dan Quinn could be the
head coach of the Cowboys, Colin Moore could be the

(27:22):
head coach of the Cowboys. Instead, they had Mike McCarthy
stuck with him, which I'm fine with. I'm fine with
that decision. I'm not sure how many people are on
board with Brian Schottenheimer. I think people feel that they are.
They were settling in that point, I thought Shoanenheimer was
great for the Seahawks when he was there for as
their offensive coordinator. So I'm gonna wait and see approach.

(27:43):
But now that division, over the last twelve months has
now got the defending Super Bowl champions and a team
that people are absolutely in love with and feel that
they have a star quarterback for the next fifteen years.
And it just feels like they they missed their window
in a division where I know that window always rotates,

(28:06):
but now you've got to figure out a way to
try to compete with Philadelphia in Washington scoring more points
and scoring a lot of points is a way to
do it. Mostly ran down their weapons or wide receivers.
Deck's gonna have to throw the ball, They're gonna have
to protect them. But I just feel that they miss
their window. And so now it's like, all right, let's
just see if we can put forty burgers on people

(28:27):
and win football games. So for that aspect, I guess
I like them getting George Pickens. Can't deny the talent, Yeah,
But I just I feel that they missed their window.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
I think the missing the window is a really really
good point, really good point, and they're stuck in that.
They're like a tweeter house. If you're ever buying houses, right,
we walk in like, well, it's been redone, but not recently,
and so it looks you have to redo it again.
You're better off walking into a house that's a complete
tear down then you are one that was redone ten

(29:01):
years ago, twelve years ago, fifteen years ago, where the styles.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Have passed it. That's the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
That's the Cowboys because, like you said, the Eagles, you
know now they've won two Super Bowls and they continue
to replenish with young talent. The Commanders and the Giants
are interesting. I don't know. I don't like what they
got at quarterback unless Jackson Dart works out, and then

(29:26):
I love what they got at quarterback because you brought
in a couple veterans and the eventually he handed over
to him. I think what the Cowboys are missing is
a true plan, and right now their plan is let's
just do the best.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
Of what we can.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
Oh, let's go add the biggest name wide receiver we
can get. Forget about the fact that he's a pain
in the ass and that usually doesn't work.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
It's also funny too, I'm not a huge fan of trades.
Right after the NFL Draft, yep, the Seahawks and they
did their Jamal Adams deal like it didn't work out
for them, and it just felt like they were paying
it off for so long. And granted those were first
round picks at that point. Oh yeah, this is only
a third rounder and a fifth rounder. But if Pickens fails,

(30:07):
it's not like Pittsburgh has already used Dallas's third round
pick this past season. They're gonna have to give it
up the next year and then them swapping late, later
round picks in twenty twenty seven. It's yeah, you better,
you better perform this year, better better do it now.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
For forty years, Tyrek has been helping customers find the
right tires for how what where you drive ship fast
and free back by free road as protection, with convenient
installation options like mobile tire installation, Tyrek Dot Commonway tire
buying should be. It's down time for a Tyrek play
of the day. It sounded like this four seconds to
go Haliburton four three.

Speaker 11 (30:42):
Three ball up top Indiana by one one in one
ten seconds to go inbound. Merrill didn't get it off
and this rivals the Milwaukee Finish.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
You have got to be kidding me down.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
Three foul makes one, missus, missus one, tip it out,
shoot the three, make the three, win the game, and
run your mouth. Coming up next, that from the Pacers
Radio Network. Coming up next to The Doug Gottlieb Show.
Who's a better sharp shooting pacer? Tyr's Haliburton or the
Rifleman Chuck Person. Let's discuss next.

Speaker 8 (31:20):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show. Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
Got The Midway coming up top of the hour. If
you haven't heard the Midway, you haven't heard the Midway.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
M that's a tease. Let's get to a game with
Dan Bayer.

Speaker 8 (31:44):
Dan, this is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
All right, Doug, A little bit of this, a little
bit of that. The game today is for better or worse?
All right, sprinkling in a bunch of stuff. Let's start
out in the NBA for better or worse player as
a Cleveland Cavalier Donovan Mitchell versus Mark Price. Who's your

(32:14):
type of guy.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
I mean, you think I'm gonna go against Mark Price.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
I didn't think so.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Needed Oklahoma.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Did you know that Denny Price was our assistant coach
shortly before he passed with the Oklahoma Storm.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
No, did not know that, and he you know, I'm glad.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
I'm not glad Denny passed all those years ago. That
was twenty five years ago. But I am am glad
that he's not here. For me to tell people that
Denny actually worked with me in my shooting. When I
left Notre Dame, I was on my way home, Coach
McLeod had me stop and meet with him. I stayed
with him and his family for a week, and then

(32:50):
obviously when I was with the storm. But so, yeah,
Mark Price is an easy one.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
Okay, I didn't even realize the connection there. All right, Well,
let's stay of that same series. Let's do Old versus
New for better or Worse Indiana Pacer Tyre's Halliburton versus
Chuck Person.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
The Rifleman, Yes, the Rifleman.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
A couple of different ways could have gone with this one,
but I felt the Rifleman was the right way to go.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Yeah, we might have to get into your thought process
because there are a lot of pacers. I just think
you just want to get a Chuck Person references.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
I'm trying to get so I feel honestly, here's I'll
give you the thought process. Okay, we're in the playoffs.
I think that Chuck person was great in those playoffs series,
especially with the Boston Celtics. Yeah, yep, back in those days.
And I feel like Tyre's Halliburton. There's no one hotter now,
especially after getting that overrated label, and so I just

(33:47):
felt it it was a good fit instead of taking
taking you know, Germaine O'Neill or someone from maybe the
the you know, two thousand sort of teams.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
And yeah, I mean but I but again, are you talking?

Speaker 3 (33:59):
You could have gone point guard and you could have
you know, there's Mark Jackson, there's Jalen Rose, there's Travis Best,
there's uh.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
I could have said which Davis Brother was better or worse?

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Yeah, it's good anyway, whatever, Rifleman or Tyrese Halburton.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
I'm gonna go with Tyrese Halburton.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
I like the rifleman a lot, and he was great
in those playoffs series, and he was one of those
guys that like he's one of those forgotten people, so
most kids won't have no idea who Chuck person is.
And I'm not even looking at the stats, and I'm
guessing he averaged over twenty in the NBA for.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Four years.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
I'm gonna have Jason do it because I'm talking.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
The anyway I'll go with I'll go with Tyre's Halburton No,
because his his uh, his success, even with his antics,
has been outstanding with the Pacers, all.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
Right, Doug for better or worse? So this can go
either way? Game one win in the Western Conference, I
call it the conference semis graphics last night really big
on second round? Yeah, what was the better or worse?
Game one? Win Nuggets over Okay?

Speaker 3 (35:15):
So only one season over twenty points a game two
really if you count eight nine ninety so, but he
was in I mean if he if he lived now,
back then he was shooting four threes a game. Now
he'd be shooting eight threes a game. So anyway, I'm sorry,
what was your.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
So for better or worse? West Game one, I'm gonna say,
I guess I'll say result instead of win Nuggets over
OKC versus Golden State Warriors over Minnesota, there's actually like
four different ways you could go. You could say it
was worse for worse because it was worse for Minnesota

(35:56):
than it was for OKAC or vice versa. You could
say it was better for the Nuggets.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
I think it's worse for Minnesota because Steph Curry barely played.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
That's why. All right, now you.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
Said, hey, you don't have to play against Steph Curry
for thirteen minutes and you're at home in game one, do.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
You think you win the game? You'd think yeah, you
one would think way.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
Better win game two. That's that's for sure, all right,
Doug for better or worse future as a wide receiver.
George Pickens versus DK metcalf.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
Mmm, I'm gonna go.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
George Pickens just more age than anything any better and
and DK is incredible, But DK he's never really been
that ajaile in the hips. I feel like DK the
the last not not now, but in the last four
or five years of his career is going to be
kind of like Mike Williams, where like you're just gonna

(36:56):
have to use them because of his ability to just be,
you know, post up really against guys or jump over
the other guys. He's DK's a better wide receiver than
I thought he would be. But I still think George
Pickens has unbelievable talent and potential. He didn't exactly play
with John Elway and Joe Montana in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Finally, Doug for better or worse nickname Utah Hockey Club
versus Utah Mammoth.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
You taw Mammoth better than Uta Hockey Club?

Speaker 4 (37:28):
I agree wholeheartedly.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Well, I know I kind of played yours, thank you.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
I was never a fan of Washington football team. I
feel there's a bit of arrogance there. I feel it's boring.
I like nicknames. I don't mind now nicknames that don't
end it as so I'm not mad about Mammoth like
it's all good with me. Heat Magic, those were fine,
those kind of rock to people's worlds back in the day.

(37:52):
But I was not a fan of Utah Hockey team.
And that's game time.

Speaker 8 (38:00):
This is game time on the Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
It's the Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
coming the next is the Midway. Okay, the Midway
