You're welcome us from your boys. All right, let's get
to Yeah, that just sounds good, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:18):
That sounds tasty? Yeah tasty, Yeah, may tasty. You know,
when I worked at ESPN, we used to actually do
a graphic for college basketball games that would say what's
at stake? And I always thought it was laying to
(01:38):
do like a what's the steak? Like it's just so
like cut and dry, this is what's at stake for
this game, especially once you get to February college basketball games,
but for January NFL games. Can you think of anything
any game that has more at steak than the Bills
(01:59):
taken on the Ravens. Oh Right, Buffalo three years ago
was thirteen seconds away from beating Kansas City to play
for an AFC championship game play for an NFC championship,
and you know, off coverage two plays in row, give
up a field goal, sends it to overtime, they lose,
and they haven't recovered since. Right, They've recovered in the
(02:23):
regular season, but haven't been able to recover in the postseason.
Baltimore's been the number one seed, They've had plenty of opportunities,
but with Lamar Jackson, they've won what three playoff games,
all in the first round of the playoffs nothing. It's
I'm not delegitimizing their playoff wins, but for a two
potentially three time MVP at some point got to get
(02:45):
to an AFC Championship game, got to get to Super Bowl. Meanwhile,
you have the Kansas City Chiefs, who for a second
consecutive year, have an offense that puts fear into nobody.
Their defense is improved, special teams are outstanding, and they
just find a way to win it once again. Number
one overall seed and they'll only play home games. But
(03:07):
in the what's at stake everything in Baltimore and UH
and Buffalo everything, you just don't get this many opportunities
and the Chiefs offense isn't going to be this average
for that long. Here's Lamar Jackson, former MVP quarterback potential
MVP this year, when he was asked about the relate
(03:28):
his relationship with Josh Allen, who they play against this weekend.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
I've probably seen Josh like early on in our career,
like going to certain events like super Bowl, super Bowl
time and stuff like that, but all season, I really
I don't really chill with people offseason, like especially not
other quarterbacks, like nothing, like like don't get me wrong.
There's no problem or nothing like that. But it's like
when we compete against each other, like I'm trying to
beat you, I'm not trying to be your friend. When
we older, we'll probably laugh about it, but right now
(03:53):
it's serious. I ain't laughing with you.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Yeah, I don't. We don't. There's no reason to operate
in that Lebron. Everybody's supposed to be friend zone in
the NFL, and Lamar is saying a nice way of
saying what we all know to be true, which is like,
you know, nobody cares if your friends go out and
win the game. Nobody gives you the Oh, they lost,
but it was to a friend that that doesn't care.
(04:19):
History looks with greater eyes upon those who win games,
especially playoff games. In the what's at stake. I don't
know how many more opportunities Buffalo is going to get
where they could legitimately beat Kansas City on their home field, Baltimore.
This is not their strongest defense, but again, another great opportunity.
We'll see if say Flowers is healthy. But you only
(04:43):
get so many chances, and I do think the Chiefs
will only be so down offensively. I thought last year
was their worst year, and their defense is really good,
and they still have my Homes and they still have Kelsey.
But let's not act like this is the best offensive
unit they've thrown out there. And as much as defense
does get you to and wins you championships, Andy Reid's
(05:04):
been known for building an incredible offense, and they do
it now by just holding together and hoping that Pat
Mahomes bills him out late, which is what he's done
more often than not, more often than not. So and again,
at some point, if Lamar doesn't take advantage of his
opportunities that he's on the road but they are a favorite,
(05:27):
then do we look differently on the MVPs? Same thing
with Josh Allen. Do we look differently on how talented
he's supposed to be if he doesn't win playoff games?
I would think the answer is yes, But I don't
think we're there yet. That's a nailp there yet.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio all right over the
DraftKings Sportsbook gap right now will Hot States to eight
and a half point favorite over No. Dread Dame and
the National Championship Game on Monday night. At the DraftKings
Sportsbook gap right now, the total of the game is
forty six and a half. So look, you have the
first thing I would I would look at, is I
(06:14):
just again, I know Notre Dame is banged up, but
I think Notre Dame is They're gonna make this one
in the mud. They're an outstanding, outstanding defense. The Draftings
Sportsbook gap right now has the total at forty six
and a half. I think that's about in line with
you know, if you're thinking twenty four to twenty right,
(06:36):
that's at that's at forty four. You know twenty seven
and again it's an eight and a half point spread.
So if it's twenty seven seventeen, okay, I think you're
still at forty six and a half. Now you do
have some prop bets. A fun prop bet on the
DraftKings sportsbook app is which players gonna score the first touchdown? Okay?
(06:59):
Is it Udkins and Jeremiah Smith? All right? Quench On
Judkiss and Jeremiah Smith are at plus five hundred, and
Trayvon Henderson is at plus five point fifty. Riley Leonard
is at plus eight hundred. Of course, if you watched
the Ore Dame and Play, you know Ryley Leonard's got
to scoot around, run around back there. His offensive line
(07:20):
was not great in the semi final against a really
good defensive front from Penn State. So it's over the
DraftKings sports book gap right now. You can go check
it out, check out those lines and get more fun
prop bets, or you can just straight up bet and
then you got the halftime and full game total. All right,
stuck Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. There's a
(07:45):
lot going on, and I saw this story and I
thought it was really really interesting that apparently the Dallas
Cowboys expected Mike McCarthy to be back, and Mike mccoughy's like, yeah,
I'm not coming back unless I can pick my staff
and probably have more years. And so that's one of
the reasons that you see all the conversations, all the
(08:05):
different interviews, there's not a focus because they didn't necessarily
have a plan. Yeah, that that's not a great look,
but I don't think it's impossible because you're not changing
general managers. It's harder when you got to change general
managers as well, because usually people like to marry the two,
(08:27):
which I guess is the only reason I can think
of that. Tom Telesco was let go with the Raiders
after being told he was safe with the Raiders, you know,
Tuesday of last week, he was saved. Thursday, he ends
up being fired. But the idea must be whoever they
want to go out and hire, they want to give
him carte blanche, to hire their own general or bringing
their own general manager to go along with them working together.
(08:50):
I don't I like the idea. I don't only love
the idea, and I don't know why to LESCo unless
they have a specific guy, you know, And that's what
it feels like. It feels like, okay, well you have
Ben Johnson, and Ben Johnson wants to bring somebody with
him from Detroit, and that's the path that they will
go down. That's the path they'll go down. Let's welcome
(09:13):
in Mark Dominick. He joins us on the Oh, I'm sorry, oh,
marko Joys in a couple moments, sorry about that, He's
we'll talk to Mark dominic in a second, and get
his thoughts on this. Get his thoughts on it. This
is a really, really fun sports weekend because the Monday
(09:35):
night game, normally Monday Night Football, now becomes the National
Championship Game. Now. The only thing about the having the
National Championship Game Monday night is, you know, look, Monday morning, Monday,
all day, we're going to be reacting to Sunday's game.
Saturday's game kind of get caught in the wash. But
at least then it gets all of Tuesday to get
kind of deposed. I would have done the National Championship
(09:57):
Game on a Tuesday. I don't know viewership numbers that
they must be much higher on a Monday. I would
done it on Tuesday. That way, you get a day
after the NFL playoffs, and then you get the rest
of the week or at least Wednesday and Thursday, for
people to talk about your national champion and then we
get back to our regularly scheduled programming, which is, let's
get to the let's get back to the to the NFL.
(10:23):
You know now, because we'll have conference championship weekend leading
up to a Super Bowl. But I think we have
some fascinating games in the NFL. And then obviously Notre
Dame's not healthy, and I think a little bit of
this is a perception of Notre Dame more than a
(10:44):
reality of Notre Dame. That perception being that they're not
athletic enough to keep up with Ohio State. But if
you look at Michigan, the physicality of Michigan really unsettled
to Ohio State. And that's how Notre Dame has to
play defensively, and they had the personnel and the athlete
in the play it. I think it's a close game.
I think it's the close game. Yeah, go ahead, Samy Doug.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Back to the NFL and this divisional weekend here, are
you surprised that three of the four games, the only
game that is not three of the four games are
a spread between six and eight points. The only game
that's not is the Bill's Ravens game. Are you surprised
by some of these huge spreads here?
Speaker 4 (11:23):
No?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
I mean, like, look, Detroit and Kansas City are the
number one seed for a reason. Right, Houston's had major
Stefan Diggs. You know, their top two wide receivers are out,
and they didn't have a great year. And for Washington,
like this is a surprise, and despite the fact they won.
(11:43):
I mean, it's a different level of football with Detroit.
So I'm not surprised that the one seed healthy, rested
and a team. Both teams finished fifteen and two, and
you know the Chiefs, they sort of dumped their last
game of the season, right, So you get thirty combined
wins with those two teams. No, I'm not surprised, though
those two spreads are big. I'm a little surprised over
(12:06):
Rams Eagles being six points. I think the Rams defensive
front of outstanding. But the Eagles, despite their dysfunction, they're crazy,
crazy physical and they have been down this road before
and they have been to a Super Bowl before, So
I'm not that surprised by it. I'm just not no, no, hmm.
(12:29):
All these jobs open and none of them have been
none of them have been closed up yet. I don't
know if you guys saw this that Tom Brady is
gonna be in Fox for the long haul. That to
me is and when the quote comes from his agent,
right Don Yee, Tom Brady plans to be in the
Fox smooth for the duration of his ten year career.
That's his agent Don Yee told the Sports Business, Sports
(12:51):
Business Journal. Yeah, my guess is those reports that Brady wasn't,
you know, might leave. I don't know if those came
from Brady, but this coming from ye that is done
Yee saying hey, if you want to get rid of him,
you got to pay him the three hundred and whatever
(13:12):
million dollars that he's out. And I'm sure Fox is
sitting there going, yeah, we're not doing that. We're gonna
pay him. He does mean he's great, doesn't mean he's good.
It just means that's why you get the big guarant
It's no different than sports. You know, the guy that
has the big guaranteed contract gets the right of first refusal.
And he has a gargantuan contract, he'll get the right
(13:33):
of first refusal. He'll get a chance to screw it
up for another two years at least. And I'm sure
he'll get better. Most guys, of course get better. You
get better, and we'll we'll probably forget about all this.
But that Mike Tariko interview which we recorded earlier today,
(13:53):
which is on the All Ball podcast, I thought, Jayse, dude,
did you hear what he said at first about about
he said it about you, Ker, But He also said
about Chris Collinsworth, and I think that's the thing that
he's that Brady's missing the most, which is when you
just have to be yourself, you know, you just have
to be yourself. Got to be yourself. Let's talk up
(14:17):
in Mark Dominicky joins us here on the Doug Gottlieb
Show on Fox Sports Trade. Of course, Mark is a
former gentlemanager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If you were
still GM of the Buccaneers and you were doing exit
meetings on Monday, what would your kind of summation of
the season be.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
I think for Tampa Bay, I'd say it was, you know,
I think a very good season, you know, disappointing ending
with the way that the game finished, But I thought,
you they put a lot of games together. You were
the number three t the NFC. You know, I thought
Baker Mayfield is proving himself, you know, consistently. Now that's
the same thing as Sam Darnold's trying to do. I
think Baker Mayfield has gone to cross that chasm and
(14:56):
now he's on the other side of saying I can
do this, and I'm going to be there because distantly,
I talked to the team about the fact that, you know,
I feel like we can run this back again next
year because Atlanta's still going to be going with basically
a rookie quarterback, Carolina going with a third year quarterback,
and we're not sure exact that car is coming back
and what's gonna happen to say, so, I think, you know,
I want to add some more speed to the defense
and things like that. But I feel like it was
(15:17):
a successful season. Didn't love the way it ended because
of just you know, obviously the turnover, the bad job
on third and one, they screw up the snap count.
But you know, this is a team that you know,
I think if you'd told me Tampa they would have
been the three seats before the seat and say, I
don't know about that, that they were and that's what
they earned.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Okay, let me get your other thoughts post mortem on
some of these teams. You're seeing a lot of pushback
on Justin Herbert didn't play well this past weekend. But
you know, and I'll give you my take doesn't matter
as much as yours. So your thoughts on Justin Herbert,
on some of not the entirety of some of the
(15:55):
media narrative, which is, well, we got to think twice
about how how glove we talk about Justin Herbert after
his playoff performance.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Yeah, I'm not in that camp. I'm comfortable with Justin
Herbert in terms of what I think he's going to be.
Hear what he is as a quarterback, because I think
what they get to do in LA now is what's
very fun for je or kis the general manager because
if you watch that game, you know that he needs
a tight end, he needs a running back that can
be there and be helping, and there is another wide receiver.
(16:24):
Those are fun things to go get Doug, And I
think once you put that around Justin Herbert, I think
you get a better outcome. Are going to get a
better situation and a better you know, player all the
way through to the postseason. I'm not scared that Justin
Herbert's say, oh, he's oh for two in the playoffs.
He wasn't the defensive problem against Jacksonville when jackson did
did the big rally. So yes, it was not a
great performance by him. Sometimes quarterbacks have bad games, but
(16:45):
I think Justin Herbert needs more weapons. You know, a
Lad mcconclets like the piece of the puzzle, but that
he needs other things around him. I think that's the
big to do in the Chargers world.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
I frankly agree with you. I think I think what
happens is when people we'll see Justin Herbert and one
they just look at the stats. They don't actually watch
the game. They didn't play well. But two, it just
proves that people don't watch the NFL games in the
regular season. They watched some of the standalone ones, but
they don't just watch, you know, Chargers Broncos Sunday afternoon,
(17:17):
they watch on red Zone and they watched the game
of Game of the week, which it wasn't this year. Okay,
Sam Donald last two games, not great, under a tremendous
amount of pressure this past both the past two weekends
and doesn't play well. What's your eval of Sam Donald
now that his season with the Vikings is complete.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
It's sad because you want to take the body of
work and put it together and say, look, look if
you put all the numbers together statistically, look how good
it was. But it was bad, and you know the rams.
I think he was so scared to make a bad
decision that he hates the ball into all those sacks,
and it was just as bad as the terms of
throwing the ball out there and trying to let your
guys make it plays. They's taking sacks as they often
the I'm not playing both for him. I've said, if
(18:02):
you're gonna sign Sam donal, you got to bring out
this with you. I will also say that if you
signed Sam Donald and you're saying it's like that's my
quarterback in the future, I think you're gonna have a
hard time.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Stan.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
I feel like I'm good, Like I think we're set
no matter what. Like think about it. If you're a
Raiders fan, you're like, hey, you know what, We're gonna
sign Sam Donald and we're good at that position where
to keep moving lookers from. I think Randfin's like, I
think we're good. I don't know if we're good right,
And that's the same problem. So I think Sam Donald
could be more in that one year, two year deal,
we're not gonna see I don't think a Kirk Cousins deal.
I don't think somebody's gonna do that again and go
(18:33):
here's four for one sixty or more or one eighty.
I think this is a Sam Donald where he could
even be back in Minnesota on a one year deal
in the thirties, because I think everybody's gonna be a
little cautious saying, do I really want to do a
Daniel Jones, a kirk Cousins kind of situation. I think
there's would be more desire for kirk Cousins actually in
Sam Donald.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
What's wrong with the Eagles offense?
Speaker 5 (18:56):
I don't think there's anything wrong. You know, here's what
I think the issue with the people are like suddenly
like daily on Jalen Hurts, and I think Jalen Hurts
has been like you could see he's been frustrated. But
there's a running back back to the two thousand yards.
That's a lot of you know, you're gonna build a
team to win on Sundays and you've got a two
thousand yard back, You're gonna You're packing game is not
(19:17):
going to be a second gage. It just won't because
that's the important part of what you're trying to do.
So just because Jalen's not throwing the ball through the
air and just dicing people to get it, I don't care.
I don't want to win that way either. Let's give
it to saque Park. I think it's the same thing
here to see this weekend when they play the Rams
and what they're gonna do, because the last time they
played Saque Parker, the Rams couldn't stop him either. So
if Jalen Hurts goes for one a because it's funny
(19:39):
because we Lamar Jackson, you know, obviously had a great season,
but there's a lot of games that Lamar Jacksons throws
at about eighteen times because he's got Derrick Henry. I don't
give it. I'm fine. I think Jalen Hurts is not
in a bad spot. I just don't wantim to get
down on himself because people have been hard on him.
You can see in the most press conferences he's take
it a little personal. But I think if he just
does what he's supposed to do, he's better than just
a quote unquote game manager, which because an overused term.
(20:01):
I want my guy to be a game manager.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yeah, Lamar Jackson does take it on Josh Allen this weekend,
and I mean obviously a ton on the line for them.
I don't know if you saw this, but the Ravens
are actually favored on the road. Why do you think
that people don't aren't buying in or Vegas isn't buying
into the Bills.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Well, I think, I mean, the Ravens have just been
on such a tear over the last month and change
and of just being able to run the ball so
easily put the ball, but you know, the sorts of
Steelers just control. I mean they got you didn't pull
them out because he didn't have to. He just ran the
hall fifty times and Steelers never had the football and
they've been doing it. And then I think the Vegas
is looking at the previous games the season, say they
(20:45):
ripped the Buffalo Bill, So why do we think it's
gonna be that different just because both teams are in
the postseasons. I think that the difference is that Buffalo
is a lot healthier right now. I think they're in
a better spot, and I think this is really a
pick up game. I'm going to go with the elements
in the Buffalo Bill if the Bills win this. My
problem is like I picked the Bills and was a
super Bowl to be in the season, and I'm not
going to fail on a round.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Yeah, yeah, you know you and me both. I have
the Bills at home. Well, Josh Allen Magic, but I'd
like to see Lamar Jackson close playoff game. How he
plays is paramount in terms of importance. All right, let's
get some of these open coaching jobs. What do you
think really went on in Dallas that led to Mike
McCarthy's ouster.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
I think that Mike's agent probably was trying to push
a longer term deal, maybe more of a three or
four year detensions that he made him play it out.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
I think there was a big number there too. And
I think what Jerry did is he started looking around
going I don't know, uh, and I think he kind
of got a namored with somebody else. There's no way,
in my opinion, that Jerry Jones shut the door on MIC.
It's like, okay, now we're just going to open the
search and hope we'll find the right guy that does
not sound like a Jones, Stephen Jones, Jerry Jones mindset.
(21:56):
I think they already know exactly what they want to
do now to just go through the process of it.
And again I may be really wrong. I do not
think DeLeon Sanders will be the head coach at the Bouncetopick,
not because Deon can't be a head coach the NFL.
It's just that Jerry likes to be a little bit bigger
than the head coach. And I can't imagine Deon Sanders
in a game against maybe the Titans, or even want
(22:18):
to coach against the Sun. That's not I don't think
Deon wants to do that.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Nope.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
And so I think that's the reason why I like
it sounds good and I think Deon's trying to sit out.
But I know it's sound interesting and fun. But I feel,
like Helen Moore, I still think Ben Johnson's a dark
horse for that job is and I think it's definitely
gonna be an offensive person.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
Okay, so let's let's go to the Raiders. Brumers that
the Raiders aren'tamored with Ben Johnson. They jettison Tom to
LESCo after just one year, and he may have drafted
the rookie of the year. Is it because whoever they're
going after they want to give them their own general manager?
Is that? Is that the idea behind it?
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Well?
Speaker 5 (23:01):
I think in this situation, the only thing that the
Raiders are sitting in is, you know, as they're trying
to hunt for the next GM, it's how are we
going to fix this when we're not picking quite as
high as we thought we were going to, or maybe
we're going to it towards the end of the season,
and what are we going to do to you know,
control or a battle against Aidan O'Connell, which you know
a lot of people are like Aiden is not an option,
but you know Aiden plays pretty good when he's in there.
(23:23):
But yeah, you want to have a better competition or
somebody else in there. It does come down to who's there,
who's going to be the head coach. I think Ben
Johnson would be a really good get for the Raiders.
It's just I think when you're Ben Johnson, you can
even wait another year. He's making very very good, good
money now is often the cordon in Detroit. If you
don't like the quarterback situation or you don't like to fit,
(23:44):
he shouldn't take the job because sometimes you likely get
one shot in it. And I don't think the Raiders
is a great attractive job, even though I think there's
pieces there. Obviously, the tight end room, the offensive line
is getting better, those kind of things, but the quarterback
is the big mystery. And will Ben Johnson say I
can go do that? I knew the quarterback I want
to go get.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
It feels to me like Mike McCarthy wouldn't have walked,
And I agree with you, right, his agent gets involved,
he wants to talk to the Bears. They blocked the Bears.
Feels like McCarthy to the Bears makes sense. They need
an offensive mind. Then the guy who's been a head
coach before, there's the rivalry there with the Packers, he's
a former Packers head coach. Does it feel that way
(24:25):
to you?
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Yeah, it does, it really does. It seems to make
a lot of sense to me that that would be
something they want to try to implement. A guy that's
you know, Terry Lombardi off the field, has tons of experience,
a system that I think Caleb would play well in,
and you know, has a lot of success, a lot
of w's underneath his belt. So it makes way way
much sense. I mean, that's obviously it gets even more
(24:47):
credibility because the Bears were the first to the only
team that really turned into you know, a notice to
the Cowboys and we'd like to interview you, coach. So
I think that Mike is absolutely, you know, spot on
positive in that direction. It seems like that's the number
one spot where he'd want to go. And I think
that'd be a great, great setup for you know, I
(25:07):
think NFL fans to find out who is Caleb Williams.
And there's a chance for Mike McCarthy to, you know,
to Battle of the packer. Like you said, twice a year, Jet.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Stobs still open. You know. You get these stories that
Woody Johnson listened to his kids because of Madden ratings.
Obviously that's been debunked, but it does point to man,
this thing's been a circus man, there's been a it's
just the Jets need you feel like they just need stable.
Who is that guy? If it's stable for the Jets?
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Well, Doug, I'm not sure, but I heard they might
be interviewing you for head coach now because it's like
I think there are seventeen or eighteen people. I think
they've interviewed seventeen or eighteen gms. I mean, they can.
I just feel like they have cast such a wide
net that I think it becomes very hard to say
what is exactly what we were fishing for again, And
I think that's a problem that the Jets are going
through because I think they're trying to be so like,
(25:56):
look at how much detail we're doing, look at all
these coaches we keep in and yeah, you can gather
a lot of information from coaches, but at some point
you've got to pull the trigger, you know. When you
think about the Jets, one guy that could be very
interesting to me could be Aaron Glenn. I mean, how
fun would that be to put him back at the
Jets and and run the defense. I feel like the
Jets are going to do an offensive guy this year.
(26:17):
I do not think they're going to do a defensive
coach because they've been defense defense for a while and
they've got to get the offense moving and becoming the
a team that I think Woody Johnson, and when you're
thinking about who your competition is, assuming two is healthy
and everything like that, You've got the Dolphins in the
Buffalo Bills. You can play great defense, but I still
think you're gonna be able to out, you know, get
yourself enough points on offense. So I think they're going offense,
(26:38):
even though I think Aaron Glenn would be a really
I think a good choice for the Jets, but I
just don't think it's the right time.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
From there, Okay, last thing for you. Let's let you go.
It's Doug Gotlig Show here on Fox Sports Radio. You
mentioned the Titans and Shador Sanders. I know we're just
getting in the draft stuff. But is he the number
one quarterback prospect based upon people you've talked to and
(27:05):
things you've seen?
Speaker 5 (27:07):
Not yet there there's a little bit of a buzz around,
you know, cam Warden comes up and down. What's he
gonna be and what he can do? You know, I
think this is a different year. I mean I think,
you know, as we get maybe a month more into it,
once we get through the Shrine Game as a Senior
Bowl and head towards the Combine, I think we'll start
to get a little bit better sense of, you know,
(27:27):
who these guys are, these quarterbacks in terms of like
being able to, you know, hear more clubs talk to them,
especially the combines, all the interview prep or the interview
opportunities to kind of decide what really is going on.
The unique thing here is, obviously Dion's gave him the
kiss to the to Tennessee the Titans as they draft
my son that he came up public and said, I
think the Titans would be a great pit. So that's
(27:48):
one hurdle that you got to get through. What you're
thinking about should work, but I think there's a lot
of work to be done. Just again, overall, what do
you want in your system? What do you want for
your quarterback? I think that number one pick in the open,
because I don't know if they're quarterback truly is an
imporant thing of the draft. I think there's a skill
guy that is. I don't know if the quarterbacks, but
when you don't have one, you know, you push them
up to the border a little bit. It's gonna be
(28:08):
fun to watch. We had a couple months to work
through it, but I think we know a lot more
and less than a month.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Mark Dominic. Mark enjoy the weekend of football, the Monday
night of the National Championshire Game of Football. We'll talk
to you next week. Thanks so much for being our guest.

Roger Goodell saying the quiet part out loud. The NFL
is gonna add an eighteenth game. Get to all that
in the second hour of the show. Before we do,
Let's get the game time with Monsey Belogna's months.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 6 (29:27):
All right, We're gonna kick off the weekend with is
he all right?
Speaker 2 (29:31):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (29:32):
We will discuss several people here, coach, and you're gonna
tell me if is he all right? Exactly? So let's
start here. The divisional round is gonna kick off this
weekend in the NFL, some big games coming up, Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Is he alright?
Speaker 6 (29:50):
Because he's probably gonna be without Jay Flowers. Now, I
know I told you during the update that Harbaugh head
coach John Harbaugh said that there was a chance. Well,
they've officially listed him as doubtful, no surprise, So Lamar Jackson,
is he all right?
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I don't think he is all right? Now. Look, last
time these two teams played, they just gave it to
that big dude, Dereck Henry behind them and it was over.
It was a wrap. Yeah, But if you take away
Jay Flowers, who is an absolute difference maker, they become
one dimensional, really running based team. Right. Obviously got a
big time pass catching tight end, but you need somebody
(30:28):
to make place if there's no Jay Flowers. I don't
think they're right. I think it changes them dramatically and
not for the better.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
Do you think they're gonna use Isaiah Likely alongside, like
you know, with Mark Andrews and take two tons? Yeah,
you think that's going to be their approach.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
I'm sure they'll try a lot of different creative things. Yes, likely,
it is likely. Yes, thank you.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
I was like, what likely? Yes, yes, all right, yeah,
but I'm with you. I'm with you, Doug. I think
it changes a lot of what Baltimore is going to
be doing this weekend. So all right, moving on here,
Carson Beck is he all right? Was gonna go to
the NFL, not going to the NFL, just had surgery.
Carson Beck.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Oh, he's definitely all right. He's gonna get four million
dollars from Miami. He's all right. Yeah, I think four
million dollars for guy who had a disappointing year is
coming off surgery to play for the University of Miami
and then a chance maybe to play in the NFL. Yeah,
he's more than all right. I'm he's good.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
I'm a little curious about Carson Beck. Cam Ward dug
Miami's defense out of holes. Yeah, and he's just that talented.
And I'm you know, Carson Beck obviously he had some
lean numbers at times, and I'm wondering if he can
put up enough, if if they don't fix the offense
or the defense in Miami, if he can dig them
out of holes like the way cam Ward did, because
he certainly left leaned on the defense in Georgia. So
(31:44):
I don't know, that'll be interesting to watch. Just my
two cents.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
I also just sin the only mcam Ward he did have.
He had some boneheaded ones too. He had his own
dumb plays too, But yeah, super talented and whereas Carson
Beck has always been look when you're playing it at
with Georgia, you had better players than everybody else. You
have better players than everybody. Right, that's a that's a
tough adjustment.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
Yeah, yeah, speaking of a tough adjustment, Miami, he might
be having to make a tough adjustment. So Jimmy Butler,
is he all right? Just finished his suspension? He could
play today. He wasn't on the injury report for Miami.
I believe they're facing the Nuggets today. Jimmy Butler coach?
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Is he all right? I don't think so. I think
Jimmy Butler wants a contract extension, has has uh has
poisoned that locker room and poisonous reputation. Do I think
he'll find a home? Yeah, I mean somebody will take him,
But I don't think in Miami he's a m.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
Why do you think he's poisoned the locker room?
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Because there's plenty of reports that they don't want him back.
I see, I know people on that team that are
seen as divas, and they're like that guy takes a
diva to a whole differently, gotcha?
Speaker 2 (32:55):
Okay? All right?
Speaker 6 (32:57):
All right? Coach Indiana head basketball coach Mike Woodson, is
he all right, Uh yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
I mean he'll get a bunch of money to walk
away if he gets fired at the end of the year.
But six mostly a six million dollars payroll for his roster,
and they got eviscerated by Illinois at home. Now the
big question for Indiana is how do they react to it.
They look good early in the season, but they did
not look good against Illinois. And I don't care. I'll
start trying to fight at the end of a game, like,
(33:28):
let's see what their reaction is. But I think he's
I long term, but it never feels good if it's
not going.
Speaker 6 (33:33):
Well your alma mater, right right, all right, coach? What
about the head basketball coach of the Green Bay Phoenix?
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Right in terms of what.
Speaker 6 (33:46):
You tell me, in terms of everything, how are we
doing some dude named that guy?
Speaker 1 (33:55):
I mean, we end won a game in a minute.
We have three home games in six days. We're gonna
do anything we can to get off the schneide. But
we're judging process that result, and the process has been better.
We'll see if the results follow.
Speaker 7 (34:07):
So yeah, I'm right, all right, and long term, long
term aren't great, all right, all right, And that's game time.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
It's the Doug Gotlieb Show. It's Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (34:36):
You know who I should have asked if if he's
all right? Is Dan Byer getting ready for the National
Championship with his team?
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Is all right?
Speaker 4 (34:43):
Hold on?
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Hold on, hold on, hold on. Yeah. Yeah, they're a
big favorite. Wow. I'm intrigued to see how they play,
you know, and they've kind of had this little underdog
chip on their shoulder. They've been awesome mm hmm. But
now they're the favorite against Notre Dame and we'll see.
(35:04):
This is just a weird year where Notre Dame. I
think a lot of people like Notre Dame and traditionally
people hate Notre Dame. That's that's just a weird It's
called a heel turn chase too. Is that what a
heel turn is? He'll turns usually when you no I pivots,
usually when you change the trajectory of your self or
(35:26):
your company or whatever. I think a heel turn is
when if you're traditionally the good guy and you become
the bad guy, you're the bad guy, you become the
good guy.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
It's a little bit of a reputation makeover.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Yeah, but that's a heel turn though, right.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
I guess yeah. I don't use that term often. I
know what a heel is in wrestling is that is
that one and the same or those so those connected?
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Yeah, that's exactly what you mean. Yeah, I think he'll
turn is a dramatic changing character. A reversal in direction
makes sense.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
If you pivot on your heel, you spin on your
heel a little bit like and you're dancing. Yeah, I
don't know if I don't know if Notre Dame has
the offense to keep up. That's that's my one concern.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
I don't think they do. I don't think they do.
And Will Howard's been really really good here in the playoff.
But again, if you look at how Michigan played them,
you know short in the game, ran the football, super
physical defensively. Is that the way? And can Notre Dame
pull it off? Because frankly, they're better defensively, especially when
(36:27):
healthy and they're not totally healthy, better defensively than Michigan is.
But it is the heel turn to have have Notre
Dame be kind of a fan favorite and be the
good guy.
Speaker 6 (36:38):
Do you think it's the deal of Marcus Freeman.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Yeah, partially because of Mars, mostly because of Marcus Freeman.
People like him, Yeah, you know, people like them, and
they haven't gotten a ton of hype. They're not led
by a big name quarterback that we're told is going
to be you know, Ron paulis a two time Heisman
Trophy winner, whatever, But I think I think Marcus Freeman
is the biggest reason why I come to Next Live
from the at tyrek dot com studios. Wait to hear
(37:02):
what a Rams rookie linebacker said about Eagles fans. That's next.
