Welcome in. I hope you're doing great. Doug Gottlieb Show
broadcasts from the ti Raq dot com studios tyrack dot com.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
We have to get there.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road has protection over
ten thousand recommended dollars tyrack dot com.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
It's the way tire buying should be.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
It's interesting because so much has become about the Luca trade.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Right, so much has become about the Luca trade.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Anthony Davis being hurt that you're like, hey, Jimmy Butler
is not Luka doncik. He's not even Anthony Davis in
terms of being a top five, top ten NBA star.
He did take the Heat to the NBA Finals. He
has been a multi time All Star. He is a
tremendous player, and he was added to the Golden State Warriors.
So let's check it on Golden State. Here's Draymond Green

(01:12):
talking about Butler after the game last night.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
He's a franchise changer.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
He's done that everywhere he's gone, and he is.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
Helping revitalize what we got here. The belief amongst this
team now.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
That he's a RAH as opposed to what it was
before he got here.

Speaker 6 (01:28):
It's night and day.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah, so you know, look, he brings a certain swag,
he brings a certain confidence. Here's here's Steve Kerr on
the confidence that he brings.

Speaker 6 (01:42):
He's a real deal, you know, I mean, just a
complete basketball player. Methodical, you know, under control all the time,
plays at his own pace, never turns it over, sees
the game, and then can get to the line frequently.
So great closer, you know, not in the traditional sense
where he he's gonna be Kevin Durant and make four
straight mid range jumper. It's more of a complete game.

(02:06):
Get to the line, make the right pass, get somebody
else in open look, get a defensive stop at a rebound.
He's fantastic player.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, it's interesting.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
It's like Jimmy Butler doesn't work everywhere, but there's a
pretty good chance Jimmy Butler works in Golden State. You're
like why, It's like, well, you have to bring in
somebody that those guys respect, and they do.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
But also that Draymond. Draymond can't punk.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Him, right, He's a He's a better version in some
ways of the things that Draymond does.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Draymond's a tremendous player. He's not perfect.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
He's a tremendous player, but Draymond can He can be
unsettling to guys if he doesn't respect you. If he
gets to you know, Boston around you don't every once
in a while stand up for yourself. He brings the
tough that Steph and the Warriors need. He brings experience.
He is a winner. He doesn't have to be the
go to score. I mean, the big thing for Jimmy

(03:08):
Butler is can he give you forty in a night? Maybe?
But he's at his best when he's your third best score.
He's at his best when he gets to just play
and not truly lead by playing, not by saying so.
I think there's a world where you look at the
Mavericks and You're like, they're really good defensively, and Anthony

(03:31):
Davis's healthy, is an amazing player. He's a better two
way player than Luca, not a better offensive player than Luca.
And for Luca, man, he's a superstar. But you add
him to the Lakers considering they didn't get the trade
for Williams done, they can't guard anybody, and the MAVs
still don't have a true point guard. There's a world

(03:52):
there where you say, you know, the Warriors might have
had the best trade acquisition for this year. I do
think the Mavericks are better than they were previously. I mean,
obviously Luca wasn't playing, but I just there's so much
better defensively with Anthony Davis. I do think they're better
this year. I think the Lakers long term, you have
your next superstar. But the Warriors could have found the

(04:15):
right fit for this season and may have had the
best reaction.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
To that move.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Best reaction to that move. We're seeing videos of the
victory parade. Have any of you guys been to a
victory parade? Isaac, have you been to a victory parade?

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (04:33):
I actually covered one for work and it was exhausting
and my feet hurt and I almost got heat stroke.
And as I said, I got recognized by the one
person in town who recognized me, and then hundreds of
other compromised Laker fans decided to toss beer on me.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
So it was great.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, Chase Stu, have you ever been to one? Did
you go to the Dodgers one this year?

Speaker 8 (04:56):
Oh? No, I wouldn't be caught dead at one if
you were going. If s'c got Shapiro were to pay
me to go down to cover a victory parade, I
would ask for double and then I still might not go.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Good Luck Fighting Park by the way too.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Okay, what about you, Sam at Gun.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Park eight miles away. No, I have not been to
a victory parade. When you're an Iowa Hawkeye football fan,
there's no victory parade for an Outback Bowl championship or
a Big Ten men's Big Ten Tournament win.

Speaker 7 (05:29):
If you did win a national championship and there was
a parade, however, would tractors be involved?

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (05:34):
Definitely, completely glitzed out like the Rose bul parade and
a bunch of flowers attached to them, corn cobs, you know,
confetti or streamers, all that stuff. It would be glorious.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
I have so little desire to go to a victory,
Like there's part of me that says, okay, the victory
parade is the chance for people who can't afford to
buy tickets to come see any of these games, to
come to the games. Reality to it is like you
don't have anything else going on during a weekday that

(06:08):
you're just gonna go to a victory. You're not actually
gonna see a game, You're just gonna watch other people.
The problem is, I don't I've never understood women or
girls in middle school, high school, especially college, watching dudes
play video games.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
That didn't happen when we were kids. I'll tell you that.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
No, when I was in college, you'd have some guys,
they'd have their girlfriends over there, like sitting there while
you're there playing video games, Like what are you doing?

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah, I don't, but there are people.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
There are people who watch others play video games, not me,
And I don't get the going to a sporting event
where there's no actual sporting event taking place. You're watching
other people drink, and I guess you can drink yourself,
but what you're celebrating your city, I don't know, maybe
it's different if it's the Chargers, because they've been through

(06:56):
so much and they've they've just let us down so
many times that the Chargers win us with Jim Harbar
as their coach at there you go, Jay stew how
many years have we been long suffering Charger fans? Chargers?
Next year turn around win a super pool. Okay, and
let's say they're gonna have victory parade. They're gonna do
it in a hunting to beach cool location. Would you go, considering,

(07:17):
you know, considering how much Charger fans have been.

Speaker 8 (07:19):
Through, I wouldn't be caught dead there. If Scott Shapiro
were to pay me to go down to cover parade,
he'd have to pay me double, and I still might
not go.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Tell us how you really feel, I mean, it's just a.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Big it's a party, it's a it's a people are
definitely drinking.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
It's a party, but it's like a weirdest party ever.
You're watching parties and then you hear that and then
there's speeches, yeah, and like does that like yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
I would rally.

Speaker 7 (07:46):
I wonder if the four of us feel that way
because we're quote unquote in the business.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
But I think, as Doug mentioned.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
It earlier, if you're a fan out there and you're
a die hard fan and you're priced out of adding tickets,
I think you might bring a different perspective to the issue.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
Alma parade.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
I think that's the other part to it. I think
that's the other part to it, one of the there's
only one part to parades that I do like. I
like the marching bands, and there's no marching bands at
these things. Like if you could bring in a marching band,
especially one from UH, from from either a gigantic school,

(08:36):
you know, the Ohio States, the Michigan's, the the USC's
or an HBCU which it's just better Florida A and
M Southern you pick it, Uh, then I would. I would.
You'd have at least a chance of getting me there.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Sounds like you like homecoming parades, which are hard.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
No, I don't like homecoming praides. I don't like parades.
I've never been to the Rose Bowl parade.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Well that's what you were. That's where you have a
marching band, is in a homecoming.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Price and a fly or I have a stealth bomber
at the Rose Parade.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Look said, I'm saying it's it's the only thing to
me that attracts me is Yeah, I do like a
good marching band. I like a really good band. Uh,
But I don't like parades, And I think I don't
like parades. I don't like other people celebrating somebody else's
success when it's not their own.

Speaker 7 (09:20):
What about watching it on TV where you don't have
to go through the logistical.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
I think hurdles.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Really, that's even worse.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah, at least if you're there, you can drink and
feel like you're a part of something fun and you
can be kind of into it, like watching everybody else
have a good time.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
That that falls more in line with the watching your
friends play video games, which you know, I fell victim
to that many times in college, where I'd be like,
I go over my buddy's house. There's a bunch of
the bunch of guys live there, and I'm like, guys,
let's go shoot some hoops. Like there's a basketball court
a block away and they're like playing Halo and FIFA
World Cup and I'm like, this is the lamest stuff.

(10:02):
But I just sat there and watched them do it.
Wasting my own time. Yeah, I wanted some guys to
play basketball, watch.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
And I can't watch people play video games. And this
comes what away years of years? You're not Sam I
know you're older than you let on, but you're not
old enough to remember arcades.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Are you?

Speaker 8 (10:18):
Like?

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Oh I know absolutely yeah, No, put.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
A quarter above somebody else.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
You're sitting there watching them, and like my dad used
to dominate Miss pac Man and like, I don't even
want to watch you, Like I just to wait till
you walk away.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
And I at my quarter because.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
My spot we had like a place called tilt, we
had Aladdin's Castle. Arcades were a big thing when I
was a little kid, and I never watched people play
video games. I just went and try to win tickets
and stuff. But that's it's actually a business now on
YouTube is like people on Twitch and YouTube watching and streaming,
watching people play video games and donating to their like

(10:52):
funds and stuff. It's a whole culture thing.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
Tragedy commentary on our society.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
You might not be wrong, Isaac, not be wrong.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Let's circle back to Jimmy Butler. This is Doug Gotlieb
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. It's weird you have
two kind of terse personalities at times with Draymond and
Jimmy Butler, and what it's like, that's like, it's like
when the negative charges combine, they get a positive charge
of the right and then what it is is it
negative charges like we have magnets?

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Is the negatives?

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (11:26):
In life and in uh physics or chemistry, whatever it.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Is potentially here the point is that life and sports
is about fit, and you kind of go through all
these other teams and you're like, yeah, I don't think
that fits. But you go through the Warriors and what
do they need? They need somebody opposite Steph who can score,
but they they don't need you to carry the team.
Steph does that you have in Draymond? You have an elite,

(11:54):
elite passer but not capable of scoring to help the team.
And you can be a hardcore or personality in terms
of work ethic and whatever, but it's not your team,
so it's not as you're not in a great position
to be that leader that turns everybody off. You could
kind of just be the uncle and do what you
want and live in your own kind of your own
sort of world. Yeah, I kind of. I mean so far,

(12:16):
so good. It's super early, but it's not a long
term play. I kind of like Jimmy Butler with the
I kind of like Jimmy Butler there.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
I could be wrong.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
He looked out going from Miami and then he gets
to like live on another coast where it's nice, nice weather.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
San Francisco is not nice weather.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
I like it because I like rain, but also you know,
the sun will come out and warm me up. I
think the weather doesn't.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Come out and warm me up in San Francis. Have
you ever heard the expression the coldest summer. I remember
the shade summer.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
In San Francisco, sitting in the shade. No, I've been
to trust me.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
I like.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
I just like that weather.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
I think I like San Francisco, but like trying to
sell me on San Francisco.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
It's definitely not Miami's you know, warmth and humidy, not
at all. It's it is, but it's also not going
to Fargo, North Dakota, no Minneapolis for that matter.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Roll Screen Bay. We got four and a half tonight
and three and a half inches tomorrow of snow, which,
by the way, I love a good snow.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Hey, the cross need mountains.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
We need to have a snowboath, snowball fight, snowball fight.

Speaker 9 (13:17):

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Live Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Adam
Kaplan's going to join us upcoming in about five minutes.
Of course, he's our Fox Sports Radio NFL insider. He's
also the co host of Inside the Birds podcast, and
I'm sure he's either spent time at or talked to
a lot of people who went to the victory parade

(13:49):
for the Eggles. But we'll talk Eggles next step. We'll
talk Chiefs next step, Lions next step, quarterback movement, all upcoming.
But as we do on on on Fridays, On Fridays,
we get to play low gambler. The gambler, Well, none

(14:10):
of us are degenerates.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
That's what happened. We got rid of Ramos, right, I mean,
he was.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Just willing to sell all our secrets to pay off
those gambling debts. So we come up with one pick
for the weekend that will clean your slate, right with
your guy or your lady who you may owe money to.
Let's start with you, Jay Stu, because it's the Jay
Stude team parlay. What do you got?

Speaker 8 (14:37):
Thank you, Doug. I'll take it from here, Jase Stu
team parlay. That entails two games, two winners, and I'm
going to give it to you right now. You got
to run to the early window to put down this wager.
I want you to pair Saint Louis are getting two
and a half at Loyal Chicago. In two hours when
Doug Gottlieb tips off at four o'clock Pacific time, Saint

(14:59):
Louis will be doing the same thing. Take Saint Louis
and pair them with Ohio. Ohio's getting five points at
Kent State. And just a message for Kent State fans,
Antonio Gates is not walking through that door, Ohio to
Saint Louis. That's your Jay's two team parlay. Thank me.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
On Monday, Larry Bird's not walking through that door. Larry
Bird's not walking through that door. Not walking through that door.
I Loo, what do you got?

Speaker 7 (15:32):
In honor of Valentine's Day and the fact that my
beloved bride is a beloved alum of UCLA, I'm taking
the Bruins to cover at Indiana. It's one and a
half spread. Right now, they're favored despite the fact that
the Hoosiers coming off of win over Michigan State close
loss to Michigan. Love is forcing me to take the

(15:54):
Bruins and take that. Take with that what you will.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
It's a dangerous Indian team without a coach. They got,
they got the guys to beat almost anybody.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
But I'm blinded by Love, Sam, What can I say?

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Ucla also been playing really well.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
They have.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
They have apparently make cron not the only who cares anymore.
What do you got there, Jay Stu? I mean, I
mean sorry, Sammy, what do you got?

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Well?

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Let's go to an inside the State of Tennessee showdown.
Vanderbilt at number five Tennessee. Listen. Tennessee lost two times
this year. They got swept by the Kentucky Wildcats their
last game, losing to the Wildcats. They lost earlier in
the season to Kentucky. So they're gonna come out mad
and this is a bit of a rivalry game. Tennessee.

(16:40):
The Volunteers favored by thirteen and a half. I'm seeing
I'm gonna take them. They play great Defense. They are
going to hammer the Commodores and they're going to cover
that thirteen and a half. Tennessee over Vanderbilt thirteen and
a half. They're gonna win by more than thirteen and
a half. Get things right there.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
I'm gonna do a little futures beat a year with
the UH All Star Weekend.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Got three point shooting contest? Who won it last year?

Speaker 4 (17:08):
Sammy the three point shooting contest? Steph?

Speaker 2 (17:15):
I think Damian Lillard won it last year?

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
Also odd though that they are, they're having it in
San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Steph's not in it.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
Well, Steph was in the thing with inescue crossing the streams.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
I'm going, Buddy Heal, go, Buddy held not the favorite, Okay, Buddy,
Buddy ball, but Buddy Heal, I'm gonna go. Buddy Heal
takes down Damian Damian Liland from Oakland, right, I mean,
I think people know that that's a lot like Dron
Bettics from Detroit.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Do you guys know dron Betters from Detroit? They won
the Super.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Had no idea.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Uh, But Buddy Healed, Buddy, Buddy Love, It's Valentine's Day.
Buddy Heal won of these great smiles known as Buddy Love.
I'm gonna go Buddy Hill wins through bunchooting contests. You
guys okay with that?

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Hey, it's your betman, it's your show.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Good take that, Take that to the place, your best
take taken to the bank.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Let's sing no when wind.

Speaker 7 (18:11):
No window, no wind, walk away nor.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
When sitting table. And we're available for the Super Bowl
sixty halftime show.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Rizzy is that like? Is that like Rizzo? Anyway? Snuggle?
They show Fox Sports Radio, Adam Kaplan joins us. Of course,
he has the Inside the Birds podcast. Plus he's our
Fox Sports Radio NFL insider And uh uh what was
your reaction to the the dominance that just the dominance
in personnel between the Eagles and the KANSTA Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Well, Doug, yeah, it could be with you. It was
one of these situations where you're going in the game.
As I was calling it when I was in New
Orleans last week, just in terms of being on media
row and talking to people, I felt strong Leagals would win.
I didn't see the blowout. I know Jason levant former
Eagle and chief receiver. Ironically, Jason said to me that

(19:16):
the Eagles will either lose by three or blow out
the Chiefs. I was like, wow, why he was one
of the first players doing the former players during the
week to say a blowout roster. And what Jason said
is kind of like I thought. The Chiefs have been
sort of living dangerously for several games, right, one of

(19:37):
the tightest, tightest margins of victory of any Super Bowl participant.
You know that they play very close games, they don't
really dominate. Their defenses really carried him the season only
two games of thirty points of more of this season,
which is hard to believe it's at any recoached offense.
And then the left tackle position was a disaster coming

(19:59):
into the game, even worse than I thought it would be.
And you had the blowout, but the fact that was
never competitive from the very start, Doug was surprising to me,
actually stunning.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Okay, what are the challenges to the Eagles in this
offseason in terms of their ability to run this thing back?

Speaker 5 (20:18):
Yeah, they have a lot, so we'll start with them.
We can get to the Chiefs. So the Eagles have
a number of free agents, now most are not key,
but they only have one starter on an offense and
Makai Beckton is their right guard who came out of
nowhere to play right guard. He'd never played Gardener's life
lost weight, was in the best shape of his career,
and he he only had two injuries this season. He

(20:39):
only missed two games due to injuries, so he had
a really good season. And then defensively, number ninety three,
Milton Williams is going to get the bag man he is.
He is probably one of these players that if you're
not an Eagles fan, you probably don't know much about, well,
you're going to learn about him. He could get a
deal with twenty million or more. Believe it or not.
He is a phenomenal football player, probably the Eagles highest

(21:01):
graded defensive player this season. The best defensive players was
Jordan who was Jalen Carter at number ninety eight, but
their most consistent players Milton Williams now Zach Bond number
fifty three, who came over from the Saints and never
played linebacker in his career. He'd been an edge rusher.
He had to learn it on the fly, wind up

(21:21):
grading out as not only one of the best linebackers
in football, he wound up being an All Pro. And
then Josh we at number nineteen, who was drafted in
twenty eighteen for the Eagles. He switched agents and I've
not a done deal here, but I'd be surprised if
he's brought back. He took a major pay cut last
season revived his career. But they have this kid, number

(21:42):
fifty eight, jalx Son, who had a great Super Bowl.
Doug Jelex Hunt was a safety at Cornell. He was
six foot one when he started there at eighteen years old.
He wound up growing four inches. He transferred to a
very small school in Texas and he won up Houston Christian.
He wound up being about six foot four two on

(22:04):
fifty pounds, and now is could be a starter for
this team. So you look at Howie Roseman, this general
manager who was probably bottom five as a drafter through
the twenty season. Now he's one of the best drafters.
And by the way, he's probably the NFL's best general manager.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Probably is.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
It's the Doug Ottlleep Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Let's talk quarterbacks, Shall weep? Aaron Rodgers not going to
be in New York. Yeah, And to steal from Jay Glazer,
Jay Glazer saying like, hey, if he didn't want to play.
He wouldn't have got flown back to New York to
meet with him because he wanted to be back there. Okay,

(22:41):
so what are the reasonable options here?

Speaker 5 (22:46):
You know, one year deal, heavily incentive based, I'm told
for pretty strong Jets source. The biggest problem with him
was physically. He had two injuries. He had a great
two hamster extrain. He at a MCL's brainy. Unfortunately, those
injuries overlapped each other. He just can never get right physically.

(23:08):
And you know, forty one turns forty two now in December.
He's just kind of hanging on. He's not gonna I
do not see him talking to people worked with him
in the past. I don't see him going anywhere where
he can't compete for a starting job, like for Instancely,
He's not gonna go anywhere to be a backup. I
don't see that happening. He doesn't need the money. Clearly
he was willing to take that big pay cut to

(23:28):
get that deal done with the Jets. In the trade,
he wanted to win a Super Bowl, get a chance
to make a run. It didn't happen. I don't see
him going anywhere other than to compete for a starting job.
I don't see him being handed one. Now. Could he
go to Pittsburgh maybe so something like that. He wants
to go somewhere he could still play. I just don't

(23:49):
see him being what I know from talking to people
work with him, I don't see him going anywhere where.
He's just going to accept a backup job. And right
now they're talking to teams or nine teams right now
who do not know who they're starting quarterback would be.
So he'll have a chance. He could bee for one
if he wants to still play. And I still believe
he does.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Steug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, let's
get to some other sort of journey people. Sam Donald,
what's his market look like?

Speaker 5 (24:13):
Gonna be good? Thirty five to forty million a year,
I think is reasonable. He is by far the number
one quarterback in free agency. Yes see, the final two
games of his Vikings career were not very good. The
Vikings would like to have him back, but they have
JJ McCarthy, who never wound up playing this season. He
did play in the first preseason game, got hurt, looked
really good by the way against the Raiders, but he

(24:33):
suffered a torn meniscus. He had the real the repair
and he'll be okay by their offseason program. But Donald,
if he does not resign him, which I think is
more realistic at this point, they'll be I would say
a minimum of a half dozen teams on him, and
he'll have leverage because to get thirty five to forty
million a year need some leverage, which means you have

(24:55):
to have multiple teams involved. There'll be multiple teams involved,
you know. After that, Doug, it's it's Russell Wilson, who
I do not believe will go back to Pittsburgh. I'd
be stunned if that happens. I'm looking at my list here, man,
it is it's just justin fields. By the way, I
know the Steelers like him. They would like to have
him back and see what happens. There should be other
teams involved, and we'll talk more about this in future segments.

(25:18):
But man, this draft this year at quarterback ooh, not
looking very good. Last year's is looking way better at
this point.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
No question.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Doug Gotlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Most interesting
hire in this hiring cycle, now that all the hires
have been made.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
Most interesting hire, Oh boy, Well, the one that I
find intriguing. See Ben Johnson was and he was the
top guy last year. He just decided not to pursue
the Washington job, but he was more. He really wanted
to coach this year. Posted last year he was kind
of fifty to fifty talking to people know him because

(25:55):
of the situation with Kayleb Williams, who yes it was
more bad, been good this past season. But now he's
got a big time play caller, proven play caller. Look,
that roster is good enough to be a playoff team
with better coaching and with Ben Johnson and there with
Kayleb Williams, if he can make a positive impact year one,
they're going to be a playoff team. Their roster is

(26:17):
good enough. They could be a nine or ten win
team easy with better coaching and better quarterback play. That one,
to me is interesting and the one that I'm going
to go inside the Brian Schottenheimer won. So here's the
thing with Shotty. Shoty coaches hard. He coaches very hard.
He's on his players. He coaches with discipline. By the way,

(26:38):
the best year Russell Wilson ever had was with Brian
Shtenhammer in twenty twenty. That was their let Russ Cook season.
Russell Wilson in twenty passing touchdowns in eight games. He
was on pace to set an NFL record for most
passing touchdowns in a season until Peter Carrelson no more passing.
So I like Shoddy. I think he'll do a good job.
From talking to people work with him. They need a

(26:58):
lot of discipline, they have enough play with a lot
the last couple of seasons. I think that one is
very intriguing in o Cowboy fans didn't understand it. I
know a lot of former players didn't get it. But
Shatty is a guy that's been around a long time.
He was too young when he was the Jets, when
he was a Jets offensive coordinator, and it's mid thirties,
but his maturity's in his fifties now, and that one,

(27:19):
I think could be a little bit better than people think.
We'll see, but I think that one could be intriguing.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
That's the one and only. Adam Kaplan. He's our Fox
Sports Trado NFL insider. He also hosts the Inside the
Birds podcast cap We Know You Got to Run.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
We appreciate your time.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
Thanks MAV having you gotta Doug. Thanks anytime, all.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Right, Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. The
Aaron Rodgers thing is interesting to me, is interesting to me.
I mean, Giants need a quarterback, not crazy, okay, and
Brian Dable is a guy who's seen as the quarterback
whisper obviously, the I mean where old rivals could become

(27:56):
fast friends. The Raiders need a quarterback. Playing indoors helps
older players, right, indoors are out, Tod helps those older quarterbacks,
and he'll move around a little bit better. And again,
like Rogers clearly wanted to hang out in New York,
now he'll want to hang out in Vega. It makes

(28:16):
sense to me. I'm not sure many of the other
places make sense unless there's some sort of tie and
West Coast offense, which is what he likes to run. Jase,
do let me ask you something. Okay, you said something.
I think it was yesterday, maybe the day before. Forgive
me if I get my days confused. But you said
that you know, on your tombstone, your radio tombstone, you

(28:38):
want someone who's you want to be known as someone
who searches for the opposite of BS.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Correct.

Speaker 8 (28:44):
Yeah, well the tombstone would insinuate that I'm no longer
living because the tombstone would read he searched for his wife,
searching for the opposite of bs I.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
And I think that you've grown to really appreciate Aaron
Rode because you think he's on the same search in
some way. Fair.

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Sure, Yeah, yeah, that's I think that's very fair.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Okay, So are you rooting for him to continue in
the NFL even though you may never have liked him
as a player previous to this.

Speaker 8 (29:15):
I think I've had enough, Like this was the one
season I was really rooting for him to kind of
stick it in everybody's face.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
So I don't know if I have the energy to
do that again.

Speaker 8 (29:24):
But it doesn't look like he's calling a quit.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
So Sam, do you have the energy to do that again?

Speaker 4 (29:33):
I'd like to see Rogers give it another go. I
just thought the way if he retired now, the way
his career ended, it is just such a disappointment, Like
it went from injury, leaving Green Bay just on stale
terms and then the Achilles injury.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah, but here's the thing again, I think.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
He's one more moment of glory in my opin they
all do, Okay, they all do this. Now, Norman really
gets the coaches do it and.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Whatever the braid. Even Brady came back to try and
for what reason I don't know Farv. Remember Farv, they
didn't get to the Super Bowl. They got to the
NFC Championship game and then he just got pummeled by
the Saints. He chose to come back and the roof
literally collapsed in Minnesota. Right, Farv ended poorly. Philip Rivers

(30:20):
ended poorly. Peyne Manning won a super Bowl, but remember
he got benched midyear and he was terrible. Now they
won the super Bowl, So I guess Brady won a
super Bowl in Tampa. But he came back and it
didn't end great. It's interesting how many of these guys.
If Payne Manning is the model because he went out

(30:41):
on top, If John Elway's a model because he went
out on top, how Johnny Unitas was Was he a
charger at the end?

Speaker 5 (30:49):
I think?

Speaker 10 (30:49):
So?

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (30:50):
What was Philip Rivers his last year and Indianapolis Colt?

Speaker 3 (30:53):
Yeah, yes, they actually had a decent season his last year.

Speaker 4 (30:56):
Yeah, there's a big difference between like what Farv did
and what Philip Rivers did, Like actually being on winning
teams and going playoffs.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
I understand and what no, no, I get it, Okay,
I get it. But my point is, even when those
things went well, like you know, Philip Rivers at the
end was done. You know Johnny Unice at the end
was done. Peyon Manning at the end was done. And
like everybody's trying to no no, no, no, no no,
I'm gonna go I'm gonna fix it him and end

(31:26):
on my note, I honestly think and and if Aaron
comes back, he's gonna come back and say I came
back because I wanted to come back.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
And I understand that that's who he is. He wants
to be his own person.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
But I think a good portion of him coming back
is exactly what Jay Stu you were searching for this year,
was him to shut everybody up. And if Aaron Rodgers
is true to Aaron Rodgers or who he purports to be, like,
why do I care if people think that this year
was a disaster with the Jets. I've accomplished greatness. I've
wont all these MVPs and won a Super Bowl. I'm
going to the Hall of Fame. I'm done, and I'm

(31:59):
i going to do my own thing. I almost feel
like him coming back and trying to prove something is
the least Aaron Rodgers thing ever. But maybe it's because
it's doing something that none of us expected him to
do last year. That is the most Aaron Rodgers thing ever.
It's very confusing.

Speaker 9 (32:16):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Stut Gottleep Show, Fox Sports Radio. Happy Happy, Happy Valentine's
Day to you, dud.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
Jase.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Too big plans with you and your smoking hot girlfriend.

Speaker 5 (32:42):
I love it.

Speaker 8 (32:42):
I do have plans, and we're going to do one
of those places where it doesn't take reservations, So we're
just gonna get there really early, sit at the bar,
get loaded, and then when they're ready to seat us,
we're gonna eat some steak like that.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Let's take low big plans.

Speaker 7 (33:01):
Oh, I've got plans, but they're gonna be disrupted by
two maniacally adorable youngsters.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
So what's the point, you know?

Speaker 4 (33:12):
What is the no babysitter?

Speaker 3 (33:14):
Yeah, babysitters cost money.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
There, Sam and Yeah, a cord cutter over here Johnny.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Actually, actually, actually, here's how low budget Ilo is. Okay.
In addition to bootlegging his cable, he bootlegs his babysitter babysitting.
I am the baby the neighbor has. The neighbor has
the babysitters Like, hey, I haven't ring my kids over.
They're like, we're going out, Like yeah, I know, you
guys have a babysitter. We love her, We we love Katie.
So that's that's what they're gonna do there. What about you,

(33:41):
Sammy big plans tonight.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
I'm just gonna have a nice face time with my girlfriend.
She lives in another state. So it's it's a bit
of it. It's a bit different. It's a bit of
a challenge.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
But are you guys? Are we doing tucking clothed FaceTime?
You guys do.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
That'slass of wine. You guys can't know there will be
some wine.

Speaker 4 (33:58):
Know there will be uh well, and we're both me
and her are both Apple users, and you know how
the privacy is such a big thing with Apple. So yeah,
you know, who knows who knows whoa.

Speaker 7 (34:10):
Hey, hey, you can hear more details on Dougs in
the Bonus podcast.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Apparently there we go.

Speaker 8 (34:16):
What was Michael Uh Michael Hall's character's name and the
breakfast club? Uh?

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Anthony Michael Hall.

Speaker 8 (34:24):
Anthony Michael Hall is a nerdy character. Remember when he
was talking about this girlfriend from Canada.

Speaker 2 (34:29):
Yes, it didn't next exist.

Speaker 8 (34:30):
That kind of reminds me of Sam's girlfriend in Iowa.
But we don't quite knows me.

Speaker 4 (34:37):
I'll just be yeah, no, yeah, no, she's real. She's real.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
She's but uh yeah, not not what she's really a bot,
that's ship, That's what it is.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
She's really about.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
Ai has come a long way now.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Accusation there, Jason.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
It was funny. The Lena Kaku is a great thing.
Like I remember the people used to get on to me, like,
I can't believe you were making fun of Lunaka Coua,
Like she didn't die, she didn't have cancer because she
wasn't a real person. I can make fun of somebody
who doesn't.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
Wasn't it a guy doing like a high pitched voice.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Yes, but my point is there was no human woman
that named Liney Kakua. Okay, that was the point, Like
you can make fun of we can make fun of
figures that aren't real human beings, right, He can't go. Hey,
my fake girlfriend who didn't exist had cancer. Don't make
fun of cancer Like I don't like making fun of cancer.
My dad died of cancer. But it's your fake girlfriend

(35:26):
who doesn't actually exist, Sam, Do we have proof of
how do we have how do we.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
Prove that this is actually a real human?

Speaker 4 (35:34):
Come on, I think we need to get to the press. Listen,
get to get to the press.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Let's get an I've sign of lying.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
That's avoidance. Here we go.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Let's get to the press the press. By the way,
if you missed any of this show, you can check
it out on YouTube. Our YouTube channel is up. Just
go to Fox Sports Radio on your on YouTube.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Doug let me, I sometimes prefer to be single, so
I have no problem being single. But I I am
taking and she's very real.

Speaker 7 (36:02):
Okay, I know what he got and spectacular, no doubt,
real and spectacle. Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has
doubled down on his recent comments saying that the Panthers
had a locker room of losers when they dropped him
first overall in twenty eleven. His former teammate Steve Smith
took exception to that well today on Cam's fourth and

(36:26):
one podcast, he further doubled down.

Speaker 10 (36:29):
Listen, when do we become so sensitive? It's like, when
did we become so sensitive to really speaking?

Speaker 5 (36:37):
What the reality is? A locker room full of losers? Aggressive.
But it's true.

Speaker 10 (36:43):
I receive what Steve Smith says because of course he
takes it personal. As a competitor that I know he is.
He was in that locker room. That was too and fourteen.
Jonathan Stewart was in that locker room, he's two and fourteen.
I'm not specifically talking about those guys. I'm specifically talking
about the culture that was there prior to me coming

(37:04):
into the locker room.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Yeah, he's trying to talk his way out of it.
It's not that great.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
He stepped in it, by the way, Like if you
don't want to be sensitive, that's fine. Hey Cam, we
all think you're soft because you wouldn't dive on the
football down six in the Super Bowl. That's guy who
doesn't want to win a Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
And that's the press.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
Hey man, we need to win.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
Have a happy Valentine's Day and if you want to
say love, prayer, for us, we could use it, we
could help that that would help
