how well she did in last night Sun's Nuggets starting
lineup game.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
If you have not heard it, we've only done it once.

And if you'd like to weigh in on any of
the topics, whether it beat Joel Embiid's reaction to his
ejection last night and the awful look that it was
for the NBA, you can hit me up at Dan
Byer on Fox. Also on Blue Sky at Dan Bayer.
You can find Mancy on X at Monzy Bolano's Ryan
sent in a message via Blue Sky says he's listening
up in the up. This is a conversation we've had before.

(01:46):
Upper Yes, what we're talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
No, I don't but I know that, But I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
So a mad props to.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Uh to Ryan for he doesn't know what that is either.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
Oh, Michigan mentioned it's a.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Place somewhere in the upper part of Parents.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
You don't know. You don't know what the upper peninsula
of Michigan is. I do not. I don't know if
it's a generational thing. I don't know if it's a
location thing.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
Christ regional.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, Midwest guys. But Isaac knows what the Upper Peninsula is,
don't you.

Speaker 6 (02:16):
There's a part of Michigan that is like separated from
the Michigan that looks like a Minton. It's up by Minnesota.
It's af Wisconsin. It's like a second Minnesota.

Speaker 5 (02:29):
Look at you steering down.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
It's beside Chris, Wisconsin. Step beside none of this Minnesota stuff.
But yes, that is there's a fair amount of Wisconsin's
border up in the northeast that is bordering the upper
of the up, the Upper Peninsula up.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
And I can say this because I grew up in Toledo.
It was because there was a war between Ohio and
Michigan fought over Toledo, which was an important port in
like the eighteen hundreds. Ohio got Toledo and Michigan was
granted in return this Upper Peninsula to resolve the dispute.
I didn't know that. That's interesting. There is something in
history in our American history called the Toledo War. You

(03:05):
can look it up.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Also, the home of John Morosi is the Upper Peninsula,
So we thank you very much. I think we've named
all Midwest states except for Iowa, so let's do that
right now. Iowa's Caitlin Clark. Ladies and gentlemen, name the
Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. Rout of applause
for Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever getting that honor

(03:30):
in what was a banner year for her in the WNBA,
although they didn't raise a banner. Maybe it's Big Ten
champs and college basketball's all time leading scorer. Fever did
make the WNBA playoffs, did not get any ring or
championship for it. However, Caitlyn Clark the Associated Press Female
Athlete of the Year, but not a unanimous selection.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Not a unanimous selection, which is a little bit surprising.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
If I'm being honest, it's not surprised that she won.
I don't think anyone is the year she had.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
So to dive in a little bit about this and
there's other another bigger topic we're going to get to,
but just on the voting, I don't think people would
have a problem with Simone Bile's receiving not at all.
Not all of this.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yeah, and she got second place votes in all of
this understandably so.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
But boxer Amain Khalif was third and getting four votes,
and that's where it gets interesting, because she was the
Algerian boxer that was under great scrutiny in the Olympics
for what her gender was at the time in the
conversation that came after it, so she ended up winning

(04:42):
the gold medal. As a professional boxer, she ended up
finishing third. But it's the point again that Caitlin Clark
is the ap Athlete of the Year announced on December
twenty fourth, of twenty twenty four, and Mazi, I have
been waiting here for weeks on who the Sports Illustrated
sports Person of the Year was going to be, and

(05:05):
waiting and waiting and waiting, and then I come to
find out that we're gonna have to wait into twenty
twenty five because Sports Illustrated is going to announce who
the winner is on January second, and then a special
ceremony is going to take place on January seventh in
Las Vegas, where celebs will be there, stars will be

(05:27):
there and they will honor the sports Person of the Year.
And I would be shocked if it was anybody but
Caitlin Clark and I just feel, Mazzi, here's another entity
that has done things one way for so long now
trying to do something else to even get more hype
from the announcement and trying to squeeze even more juice
from Caitlin Clark. I feel that's exactly what Sports Illustrated

(05:50):
is trying to do in their sports Person of the Year.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
I mean, I think you and I were doing the
show this time last year where it came out that
it was Deon Sanders the sports Person of the Year,
and it was just funny because yes, last year, there
was so much hype going with the Colorado Buffaloes and
they had the start of the season winning three games
in a row, but then they ended with how many

(06:13):
seven losses.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
And did not make a bowl game?

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Line, did not make a bowl game, but he won it.
We were like, yeah, because this was decided how long ago?
But they're just telling us now and now here we
are knowing who is probably gonna be and they're like, no,
we're not gonna tell you yet. We're gonna make a
big extravaganza out of it because it's Kitlin Clark. And
like you said, they're just squeezing what they can out
of Kitlin Clark.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
We had this debate and it wasn't much of a debate.
Your side that you were on ended up winning almost
by a four to one, five to one margin when
we debated Aaron Judge or Caitlin Clark and who was
more popular. And this was all started in a comment
that Jason Stewart made about when the two met this

(06:55):
past season in New York and how he said that
Caitlyn Clark was the more popular athlete, and I said,
I felt Aaron Judge was more famous than Caitlyn Clark.
And then when we went around the room, and I fully,
whether it be around the room, whether it be on
on X and social media, I was being outnumbered. For
every four Caitlin Clark voice there was, there was maybe

(07:17):
one Aaron Judge. So I understand the numbers, and I
understand the conversation, the popularity portion of this and squeezing
this out. I give a tip of the cap to
the Associated Press because you couldn't have put it at
a worse time. You drop this news on Christmas Eve,
when the topic of conversation that we have in sports

(07:38):
talk radio or in social media will grind to a
halt because of the Christmas holiday, where I think Sports
Illustrated and again I understand moneymaking, you know, venture trying
to do what they can, but they're trying to maximize
the Caitlin Clark effect as well. We have known, probably
since September, the Caitlin Clark would have been the sports

(08:00):
Person of the Year. I would be shocked if it
was anybody else unless they try to be creative. I
just think it's a little, i don't know, sad and
unfortunate that now Sports Illustrated is changing their ways a
year after they were criticized for having Dione Sanders do
it and I don't win it, and I don't think
that that's the reason. I think it's that they're trying
to just squeeze more juice out of the Caitlyn Clark orange.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
They one hundred percent are trying to squeeze more juice
out of the orange that is Kaitlyn Clark.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
And it is a little bit surprising though, because there's.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
You hear a lot of discourse of people saying like
they're kind of tired of Kaitlyn Clark, right, They're tired
of how much she's in our face, and so it's
interesting that they're taking this approach. I'm surprised about it,
to make it even bigger than it already is.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Here's Here's the other thing is if you're going to
announce it on January second and then have a ceremony
on January seventh, doesn't that defeat the purpose? Just announce it,
announce it two weeks ago and say we're going to
honor her January seventh, Right, Yeah, the guy I thought
there was going to be this reveal on January seventh
by Sports Illustrated and they didn't end up. No, that's

(09:05):
not the case. They're going to announce it on the second,
the Thursday, the day after all the college football bowl
games and quarterfinals, and that's what you're going to have
to lean into it.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
I just want to see the dates, like what it
lands on. So the seventh is on Tuesday and the
second is on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
So yeah, what is the point of that? No, we
know what the point is. Yeah, squeezing the juice.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Isaac Lowing crowns at the news desk. He wants in
on this conversation.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
Did I miss something?

Speaker 6 (09:32):
But why isn't Shohei Otani a candidate for Sports person.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
He might be a candidate. He might be a candidate.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
It's just unfortunate for him that what he did happened
to be at the same time that Caitlyn Clark.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
I would also say this, why did Dion get it
last year? Yes, hype, So then that's what this is.
So it shows that they are not shying away from
the hype and the popularity. But again we're guess. If
it's if it is sho Heyo Tani, if it is
Simone Biles, if it is whoever, I will gladly say

(10:07):
that I was wrong. This just seems to be just
an odd, odd sequence of events where Sports Illustrated is
now trying to seemingly squeeze more out of this. I've
been waiting for the announcement for weeks and then I
finally said, well, I better look this up. This was
announced in early December, when I honestly, I think last
year they announced Dion in late November, like they announced

(10:30):
in December that they weren't going to announce it until January.
But it was different. Last year they did it a
whole month in advantage. There was a whole other month
of stuff that could possibly happen. Yeah, it just seems
a little fishy to me.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
To add to Isaac asking about Show Hey, I do
think that the way show Hay was average in the
World Series for the Dodgers kind of took away from
his his moment.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Like the World Series for the Dodgers, you think of
Freddy Freeman, right, the Grand Slam, yes.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Or you think of the mistakes by the Yankees, or
you think of Walker Bueller, like it's for the World
Series specifically.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I don't know if your immediate thought goes to show Hey.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
I also don't think that you can give it to
show Hey and a year that he doesn't pitch or
as great as the season was in the fifty to
fifty and all of that. Yeah, I just because then
then it's more of and maybe it's more of the
bigger picture. And maybe that's what Dion was all about,
not just the wins and losses. But if you were
doing bigger picture with Show Hey, this season, uh, first

(11:39):
part of the season probably wasn't the greatest considering what
was going on with his interpreter, right, So that's.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
There's that others, Yeah, which I forgot it was all
this year, Yeah that it was all this year, But yeah,
like it's if it is big picture. The big picture
is what Calen Clark has done to the w NBA
and just women's sports right in general. And with Dionne
did in Colorado in it, Yeah, a quick turnaround, and
I think both of them had that in common.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
The WNBA also considering maybe playing some international games. To me,
that is a bit of a stretch. I would understand
it if you had an international superstar where that came
over to the that was in the WNBA that you're saying,
like Lauren Jackson was from Australia, played the NBA for
a decade. If you went and played games. I don't
know if she's from Sydney or Melbourne or where she's from,

(12:29):
but if you went and played, I could understand that
the NBA is playing a couple of Spurs games in
Paris next month. They've played in London before, But I
don't I felt it really felt that the Caitlyn Clark,
because of because of all of the tense conversations about
it and even in the political ties that end, that
it wouldn't translate internationally, that it was more of a

(12:49):
domestic appeal.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
And also is Caitlin going to go to every single
international game, because that's the only way that works. She
has to be the one playing. Yeah, right, it's not
it's gonna fall flat if it's not her.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
If that's why you think that you're expanding that way,
that's correct. I don't think that that would be the case.
You would play. You would play like one game in London,
or like one game in Paris or two. But the
the NBA has done it for years. They've played games
in January London and this year the Spurs are going
over there and playing two games in Paris. So you
would have something like that. But to your point, you
also only have a forty game schedule, and how you

(13:24):
would work that out in the summer would have to
be something that you would sort out. I just don't
think that the Caitlin Clark craze and I haven't been
to Europe this past summer and didn't go to Europe
or go to anywhere where. Maybe maybe it was blowing up,
but it just seems like it was a very United
States sort of story.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Well remember at the Olympics when the women's basketball team
started playing, there were a lot of Caitlin Clark shirts
in the stands at the Olympics, so maybe.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Oh, Paris perfect opportunity. Yeah, she's mont Blanio. So I'm
Dan Bayer in for Doug Gottlieb. Here, I'm Fox Sports Radio.
Coming up next, we're gonna talk some NBA or good
buddy Mark Medina will drop by Lakers lose last night
to the Pistons while the Celtics fell short to the
Magic Nuggets were out of the suns, and we'll look
at that game that happened to the Mile High City

(14:14):
in a much different fashion than you would think. She's Moncey.
I'm Dan in for Doug. That's next year on Fox.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
App Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. She's Monty Belano.
So I'm Dan Buyer in for Doug. On this Christmas Eve.
If you're traveling here or there, hopefully things are safe
for you. It'll winter storm last week in the Midwest.
Navigated that hit a little ice on the road, which
is a little freaky for my wife, who is the

(14:48):
southern California native and the car just kind of starts
to go on. It's freaky.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
We just let it go. You're just like, no, no,
foot all gap caught.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
You know, it catches traction pretty quick. Yeah, you know
it was and is bad. But still like that stuff
can get away from me.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
You just can't find it.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Matter to chains on your tires.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Uh No, we didn't have to in that scenario.

Speaker 8 (15:09):
Yeah, going up into the mountains, you go out here
to Big Bear to Lake Arrowhead, that they'll require chains,
but not not in the Midwest.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
One of the highway driving. But you can get a
little scary, a little freaky in some situations, so just
gotta be careful. Chris Purfett.

Speaker 5 (15:29):
The only thing I've kind of missed from that point,
although I kind of hated it, is the amount of
salt trucks. And let me tell you, the worst thing
for a car just being right behind one of those
salt trucks when they're trying to do their work on
the road.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
The salt drops. It's like the dump truck, and then
it's got a little thing at the end that that
spews out the salt that melts the ice on the roads.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
You get too close to it, just clean a lot
off your car.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yes, but it helps melt the ice. In some places
they don't have salt, like in Texas, they don't have
salt like at all.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Yeah. Well, I lived in Georgia. We had like snowfall
one year. In Atlanta, they had like maybe one salt
truck for the entire city. It was a nightmare.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, it's crazy. Everybody lives in a different way, but
this is what we got in the holiday season. I
think most people traveled yesterday. If you were traveling, but
if you are still doing so today, please be safe.
Maybe there's snow in the Rocky Mountains. Last night there
was a blowouts in Denver. The Nuggets took down Bree's
Suns one seventeen to ninety. But we're not gonna break

(16:32):
down that game, Bri. Isn't that good news? It's good
news for you. Yes, No, say it on the air
like you don't nod, Brie. Okay, let's say it on
the air.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Yeah, I don't think we should break it down. It's
a really rough time. Yimmy is coming Monday, right, Yimmy
is coming. Jimmy Butler is gonna save the day. So
we're just counting down.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Yes, he's not overrated at all, not at all. Jus
separate conversation, ladies and gentlemen. It's time for Lisa's lineups.
So let's get the R music started. And for those
of you that missed it, my wife is not a
big sports fan, so I figured let's have fun with
her knowledge of sports and see how well she can

(17:11):
guess the names of athletes that are playing at events.
We did the ALE and MVP ALE and NL MVP previously,
where we would give her blank Soto, blank Judge, blank
Witt Junior, and she had to match up the names
with each player. Are you ready for your starting lineups?
Her last night's game in Denver? There is one caveat

(17:34):
to make this fair. I didn't want to exclude Devin
Booker because he didn't play last night because of his
groin injury, so we took out Royce O'Neill and we
put in blank Booker. Are you ready for the starting
lineup for the Phoenix sun Guys at forward six '
eleven from Texas Kevin Durant, So she's got she got

(17:58):
four out of ten.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Nice guys, that's great.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
At center from Bosia Herzegovina measuring at seven feet tall,
Yusef Nurkic. Here we go at guard six ' four
from Florida, Aaron bealme on No. Six to one guard
from Duke Russell jonespe could have been Tias Jones and

(18:28):
a six to six guard from Kentucky Devin Booker. Yes,
three out of the five sons correct, Denver, We've got
some bad news now for the home team. This, by
the way, is Denver's intro music from what I found.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Yes, okay, authentic.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
We are at forward sixth eight from Arizona. Bradley Gordon
Nope six ten forward from Missouri, Christian Porter Junior.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Ok.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Yes, at guard from U C. L A measuring six
feet four inches Michael Westbrook, I think was a wide
receiver once in the NFL, at six six twenty pounds
from Kansas. Tias browns at least in some of these. Yes, well,
the names I wrote Tias on the side got right, okay,

(19:29):
and six eleventh center and your MVP from Serbia, Nicola Jokis.
She got the big names, she got Durant, she got Bookers,
she got Jokic. But Michael Westbrook, the Aaron Beal was
Tias Brown.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
I'm surprised you didn't get Westbrook.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
I was surprised as well.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
That's just a name you hear like it's you know,
Russell Westbrook, you just kind of hear it.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
But again, she really doesn't pay attention to sports. So
and Michael Wastbrook again was a former NFL wide receiver.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
That came from somewhere.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, absolutely, who once beat up his teammate when he
played for Washington.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Nice. Oh wow, that's something if you remember.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
For that has never happened to Isaac Lohankron though. I'm serious.

Speaker 7 (20:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Uh. He's got the latest and the Mark Medina joins
us here on Fox Sports Radio. What's going on, Isaac Dan.

Speaker 6 (20:25):
The Baltimore Ravens officially ruled out running back justin excuse me,
Justice Hill, as well as receiver Nelson Agalore for tomorrow's
game at Houston, both because of concussions. The Ravens also
listed receivers Zay Flowers as questionable because of a shoulder injury.
The Texans meanwhile listed defensive lineman Denico Autry as questionable
due to a knee injury. No word yet on all

(20:47):
those players statuses for Beyonce's halftime show the Kansas City
Chiefs ruled out left tackle DJ Humphries and defensive back
Chamari Connor for Tomorrow's game at Pittsburgh, while the Steelers
ruled out cornerback Joey Porter Junior due to a knee injury.
George Pickens, the Steelers' leading receiver, off the injury report,
so he will play tomorrow, returning after missing three games
of the hamstring injury. Green Bay Packers head coach Matt

(21:10):
Lafleur announced that receiver Christian Watson suffered a bruce knee
in last night's win over the New Orleans Saints and
could play this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings and the
Arizona Cardinals, who earlier ruled out both of their starting
tackles left tackle Paris Johnson and right tackle Jonah Williams
because of knee injuries for Saturday night's game against the
Los Angeles Rams, have now placed both Johnson and Williams

(21:34):
on injured reserve. Finally, Dan and Monsei. We have an
NFL Christmas shopping update on Facebook marketplace. Someone in Missouri
is selling an NFL instant replay booth for two hundred
and fifty dollars The description reads, in part, quote the

(21:55):
outside looks used, but the inside looks new. Includes several
canopy slash on and covers. Would also be great for
musicians who travel. Unquote. In case you're looking for something
more the special NFL Instant Replay Fan in your Life back.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
It's an actually like the thing that they put on
the field to look at.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
The thing that they used to have down in the
field that the officials would on the field walk into
and in the booth covered covered in the in the canopy.
You can you can have it for two hundred and
fifty dollars on Facebook marketplace.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Bet on that and get it and put it in
the corner.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
And then replay. When what did you say last time?

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Check the tape two weeks ago. Yes, he said, let's
let's go to replay and you walk over to the
booth that can be gamed. I'll just charge it to
the company. That's all we'll do. Thanks, Isaac. Mark Medina
joins us here on Fox Sports Radio. We can fact
check him, but we don't need to because he has
always he's always has the facts. He's our Fox Sports
Radio NFL n Center Mary Christmas, Happy holidays, Mark, How are.

Speaker 9 (22:59):
You Dan marry Chris and mont marry Christmas, Appy holidays,
doing well NBA, though there's a fact Chuck.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Hey, what is your thought about Joel Ebid's ejection last night?
Monty and I talked about this at the start of
the show going in. I just I understand that officials
are officials, female or male. I thought it was an
awful look. I just don't think you, if you're Joel Embiid,
you can do that. Do you have to have some
sort of recognition of what is going on and what

(23:27):
is the circumstance. You wouldn't treat Scott Foster the same
as you would every other official in the NBA. I
feel that Embiid needs to take that into account. Did
Joel Embid cross the line last night?

Speaker 9 (23:38):
Oh, without a doubt. I think the standard expectation, especially
for a star player, is it's always about availability. So
even if you know you're upset with an official, you
can toe the line as long as you don't get ejected.
Same thing if you're playing physical with a player, you know,
if you get a foul, that's one thing, flagger foul,
that's bad because you're not available. So Joel, it's got

(24:01):
to be better than that, because, as we've seen, when
Joel Embiid is not on the floor, the Sixers a
really bad team this season and won't even make the playoffs.
You know, he's that much of a difference maker as
far as where they're stealing goes Mark, thank you.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
For joining us.

Speaker 9 (24:15):
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Let's get to the Clippers real quick. When is Kawhi
coming back? I know we're I know we're very close
to it. I know we're close.

Speaker 4 (24:26):
And also is the team a little bit worried of
him kind of coming in and disrupting a little bit
of the sink that they're creating.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
It's they win some, they lose.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Some, but I do feel like the Clippers look pretty
good in sync right now. Are they all worried that,
you know, he's gonna come in and they're gonna have
to change things.

Speaker 9 (24:44):
Around Monte a lot of good things here on pack.
As far as like the definitive when he's going to return,
the Clippers, as always, haven't provided any clarity, but I
want to be surprised. He's back for the Clippers Warriors
game on Friday. But what it's worth, he wasn't with
the Clippers on their latest road trip, so there might

(25:04):
be an expectation, Hey, he's got to get some full
contact and practice first. We'll wait and see. But the
larger question they are asking, as far as you know,
to what extent could it disrupt team chemistry? Obviously, the
Clippers will welcome back him back with open arms, and
they want him. But as we saw in the playoffs
last season with Dallas, that was an example of how

(25:27):
his presence alone and sometimes disrupt that when he was
on the floor, it wasn't just a challenge of how
he was playing, not being fully one hundred percent, it
was about how the rest of everyone else adjusted their games.
And so I think that that will be a short
term struggle, but obviously the long term game is that

(25:48):
Kawhi's finally back to You never can rule out future
injuries because of his own history, but the fact that
he is in uniform is going to be a huge
and net positive because they've been needing him all season.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Mark Medina joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Find
him on x at Mark g Underscore Medina our NBA insider.
She's Monte Blanos. I'm Dan Byer in for Doug Gottlieb.
This may be too little too late for the team,
maybe too little too late for his career, but Zion
is Zion Williamson is ramping up towards a possible return.

(26:23):
Is it too little too late for Zion Williamson to
come back and provide the Pelicans with anything, as they're
the worst team in the West right now.

Speaker 9 (26:29):
Yeah, I wouldn't say it's too late, only because we
haven't reached the end of the calendar year. If he
was coming back day after the All Star break, I
would I would think, you know what, that's a lot
of ground to make up. But I think the question
I have is do we actually know when Zion Williamson
is going to be available? Just because he's going to

(26:50):
start practicing next week, doesn't all of a sudden it
mean that he's ready to go. Yeah, after only a
few practices, because wand the nature of pamstring injuries. But
two the nature palace i On's body, you know, manages
itself and tends to break down. I'm also under no
illusion that once he's back on the floor, how much
of a process that will be With minutes restrictions, gain

(27:12):
his timing rhythm back and then also can he stay
healthy moving forward? So far in his career, he has
not shown any encouraging signs that he can get past
injuries once he's on the court. But as far as
are they two behind in the standings, yes, they have
a lot of ground to cover, but they at least
have some time. And I think that the only potential

(27:32):
silver lining here is outside of the Oklahoma City Thunder
and I guess the Houston Rockets as well. Everything else
is up for grabs. The standings have been so fluid
because of both parody and injuries across the board, most
notably with the Suns and the Clippers that you know,
those teams, you know, fortunes have really been fickle throughout

(27:55):
this season.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Mark, what is the leadst with Yummy Butler?

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Are the Heat still possibly looking to trade here? The
agent was all mad at Shams, saying that none of
that was true.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
What is the latest?

Speaker 9 (28:10):
I think that your tone basically captured it completely. Well,
the Heat are kind of tiptoeing around and listening, but
not quite saying, oh yeah, we'll trade Jimmy Butler. I
think that that the Miami Heat are making this simple calculus,
but it gets even more complicated because they're the Miami Heat.
They don't have any interest in losing games. They don't

(28:30):
have any interest in rebuilding, and every team can say that,
But when you look at Miami's track record, they have
never done deals that say, Okay, we're going to collect
a lot of assets for our long term future. It's
about can we get something now that can still help
us win in the current season. And I think because

(28:51):
of that, the bar is really high for Miami to
be willing to trade Jimmy Butler. But you know, on
the other side of the coins, Miami also spoke pretty
loudly to the fact that they didn't agree to having
an extension with Jimmy Butler. I think because of his
injury history. Obviously we heard, you know, the word of
annoyance that pat Riley mentioned during the off season when

(29:11):
Jimmy Butler was saying, oh, if I was healthy, we
would have gone further in the playoffs. And he didn't
take too kighly to that. So if I had a guess,
it's hard for me to think the Heat do trade
Jimmy Butler because they have such eye expectations for what
they get a deal in return. But he is by
no means untouchable.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
But if if the Heat are wanting to win now,
they're not going to win with this.

Speaker 9 (29:31):
Current team, Well that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Uh for Mark, We're losing you start over.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
This is what happens when you talk about the Miami
Heat too much. Is the phone literally melts. It's it's
it's it's the the the God's way of saying, stop
talking about Jimmy.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
Why I thought. I thought it was the holiday season
and we were going to be kind.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
It's heat culture. He's just gets too hot. This is
our sign. That was a sign, Mark Medina.

Speaker 9 (30:02):
Yeah, I was going to say, I think that was
pat Riley bugging the phone line. That what I was
gonna say. Though, with with what you're saying Mont about
Miami's expectations, they're a delusional franchise. And I say that
mostly positive, like they have always overachieved, and you think
even in recent seasons, okay, they don't have what it
takes to be a contending team, and all of a

(30:23):
sudden they make the NBA Finals as an eight seed.
So obviously Eric Spolzer is a great coach. They do
have a lot of you know, good players with fam
out of bio, good player development that they're they're always
going to overachieve. And so I think because of that,
that's what makes this negotiation even more unique, uh than

(30:43):
any other franchise on how they evaluate a star player
that has his best years behind him and has a
lot of, you know, injury concerns moving forward.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
Last one for me, I don't know if it's maybe
the sense that I'm getting. I don't know if it's frustration.
I feel that Steve Kurs talking more and saying more stuff,
but they've lost ten to thirteen. Now Golden State lost
last night at home to the Indiana Pacers. Well, what
needs to be done? I mean, are the are the
pieces there? As Kerr getting frustrated? Is this him being
more active as a coach? But what's to do with

(31:15):
the warriors recent skin as of late?

Speaker 9 (31:17):
Well the short, short term solutions And I think that
this should bear itself out because of who we're talking about.
Steph Curry got to shoot better. I mean, he's had
two absolute duds of a game against Indiana against Memphis.
I suspect he'll be normal Steph Curry moving forward, but
the rest of the roster is very fluid. They got
Dennis Schroeder for a reason to give Steph Curry additional

(31:40):
backcourt help, additional scoring punch. But that's an integration process.
And then we've seen, just like in earlier in his career,
the highs and lows of Jonathan Kamingo, where he has
a lot of great potential. Is a really special a
player because of his athleticism, his overall positional versatility on
both sides of the full. But he's not consistent and Steve,

(32:03):
you know, made it clear the other night that he's
got to be better and pay more attention to details.
So the other last part is Brandon Pozimski has been
struggling a lot. They partly were willing to let Clay
Thompson go to the Dallas Mavericks and not spend so
much to keep them because they were carving out a
bigger role for Brandon to have. And so far, you know,

(32:27):
his shooting has been more slump than streaks. And you
know that's got to end because they carved out a
bigger role for him because they saw a lot of upsides.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Last one here, quick Mark.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
Obviously, the ratings, viewership is down for the NBA.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
I think it's a lot of factors.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
But if you would make what would be the first
thing you change to make the NBA kind of come
back to life.

Speaker 9 (32:51):
Yeah, it's under your guys. If there's a lot of factors,
it's quick. I think for Christmas Day nothing, they've had
all the marquee games. I think everyone's going to be
available from a health stampoin point, and it's all on
streaming cable network. I think regular season they got to
make the streaming options a lot easier to navigate. I
personally have had issues with League Pass, with password resets

(33:12):
and tape delays and things not functioning well. And I
think for the you know, the casual and diehard fan,
that can be very disruptive. But I think the challenging
thing is the NBA has done a lot of solutions,
NBA Cup is player participation policy, and it still isn't enough.
So it's it's a very tough thing to tackle.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
He's Mark madeIn our Fox Sports Radio NBA in center.
Where else can they get your stuff? Mark?

Speaker 9 (33:37):
Yeah, I guess the best social media channel would be
X the Blue Sky. And I'm writing a lot and
obviously on the airways with you guys, a right appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
All another Blue Sky friend. Yes, appreciate it. Mark, we
talked to you soon.

Speaker 9 (33:51):
Happy Holidays.

you missed any of today's show, be sure to check
out the podcast. Just search Doug Gottlieb wherever you get
your podcasts, and be sure to also follow, rate and
review the podcast. Again, just search Doug Gottlieb wherever you

(34:31):
except the Hawaii Bowl. NHL is off. The NBA is off.
Hawaii Bowl comes up later tonight. No NFL games on
this Christmas Eve. Different story obviously tomorrow on Christmas Day,
but what you'll also see is you'll see them, You'll
see ESPN. You'll see networks having to fill their programming.
CB a sports network right now showing bowling.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
Nothing wrong with that, nice.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
It is what it is. But ESPN was replaying some
of their My Wish segments where there's a sports fan
and he gets treated to like a really neat experience,
and it reminds me a little bit of Undercover Boss,
where I get mad if the boss doesn't hand out
like something extraordinary to the person. And there's a viral

(35:18):
video going on around right now. Dave Portnoy Barstool Sports
gives money I don't want to give it away because
it is a really good video to a local pizza
shop and the owner responded, great, those are great videos.
But the flip side of that is when you are
just completely let down by what the gift is. And

(35:38):
so I was just looking at my wish and there
was a Freddie Freeman one and there's a Duke one
that the kid's a big Duke fan, and I think
the Dodgers did well with Freddie Freeman. Freddie Freeman obviously, yeah, absolutely,
so they did well with it. But I just watch
Undercover boss, and it made me so mad. One time
when a lady had like kneed troubles and ankle troubles,

(35:59):
and they gave her an elevator at work to use.
Like it's a big cost, but it's for your company.
Like it's like it would help her not walking up
the stairs. But that that shouldn't be a part of
the gifts, right, just have that yes, exa exactly.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
Even if that that just seems even cruel of that boy,
it's like, be more productive.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Yeah, be work harder. As as her co worker gets
a trip to Tahiti, you know, with her family, she
gets this elevator, and every time she hits two, she's
reminded of how much your company really hates her. But
she was grateful, and I'm like, well, she's better than me,
as is Isaac Lowncron. He's here with the press, the press,

(36:45):
what's going on? Isaac? All right?

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Gang?

Speaker 6 (36:47):
Today, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt Lafleur announced that
the injury the receiver Christian Watson sustained on Monday Night
Football and their victory last night over the New Orleans
Saints was just a bruce knee. Looking at it on replay,
it looked like it potentially could be something more significant.
But it turns out that Watson actually could play this

(37:10):
this Sunday when they take on the Meddos of the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
I think he said that he characterized the injury as elementary.
It's elementary for Watson.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Good good. You know you couldn't let it.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
There you go. Yeah, she's she really did like it.
She did.

Speaker 5 (37:28):
Oh yeah, she's laughing and trying to hide it. Oh
you got her good now?

Speaker 3 (37:33):
Yeah, that's good.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Good job Dan, I think.

Speaker 5 (37:37):
Yeah, in a half, that's good.

Speaker 6 (37:39):
It was LeVar Arrington's laugh. He would be squeaking right
now with that famous LeVar Arrington squeaked.

Speaker 7 (37:43):
That he.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
Was that supposed to be LeVar it was.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Let me tell you that one again.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
I think I got stuck somewhere between a couple different
persons in that one.

Speaker 6 (37:56):
You know, in fairness, if if Dan didn't do the elementary,
my dear, why I would have probably, I would have probably.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
And I would have laughed just as hard.

Speaker 5 (38:04):
I love, thank you appreciate that.

Speaker 6 (38:07):
So tomorrow we have two NFL games, four teams, and
for all four teams, the Chiefs, Steelers, Ravens and Texans.
They'll all be playing their third game in eleven days,
and former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger not amused, saying on
a podcast, quote, it's miserable. It's a shame that the

(38:27):
league does this. It just shows that it's all about money.
I mean, you're asking and making guys play the most
violent game in the world three games in eleven days.
There's no time for your body to get healthy and rest.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Unquote hot take Ben. I mean, obviously it.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Is quite the difficult stretch, especially with these games having
to mean a lot. Here's the good news. It's not
gonna happen next.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
Year, but it's happening again. Right.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
Well, here's the deal. It can only happen really when Chris,
this is on a Wednesday. You have this funky schedule.
Now when Christmas is on a Tuesday, it'll be maybe
a different story if they try to extend the week
and maybe they'll play on Christmas, but on the Wednesday schedule.
And how they made those four teams play on Saturday
so they could play on Wednesday. We'll have it in

(39:17):
twenty thirty and then because of the leap year, it
won't happen again until twenty forty one, so Christmas will
fall on I looked at the calendar.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
I looked this up, twenty forty one. Why did you
use that year?

Speaker 5 (39:33):
Insider?

Speaker 2 (39:33):
That tells you how far away it is?

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Twenty forty one. They're even saying that.

Speaker 6 (39:38):
Oh and Fox Sports calendar insider Dan Byer, that's the press.

Speaker 5 (39:42):
They get out there and pressed that was the press.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
I spent like ten minutes on that to find out
how many more Wednesday Christmas Day games you would get?

Speaker 3 (39:50):
No thank you for doing that.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
It wasn't readily available, but I did finally figure out
twenty forty one. How much football is too much football?
