Speaker 2 (00:18):
All right, get out your pen, get out your pad
of paper, start jotting down those Hall of famers. It's
an exercise we do every Wednesday when we get everyone together.
Not only is it me and Aaron Torres in for
Doug gottlie who's taking in some day baseball in the
Bruce City today featuring the two top teams in the
Nlcentral got Jason Stewart, our executive producer, Iowa sam or
(00:41):
technical producer, And you just heard Moncey Bolanos at the
news desk. Moncey will be here as well giving us
any breaking news or anything that comes in. Trade deadline
again a day away, so she'll have the details on that,
plus interesting news involving Gilbert Arenas, the former NBA star arrested.
We're gonna touch on that in about forty minutes or so.
(01:04):
Jason Stewart a poker player, the resident poker player here.
Does this Arenas story interest you because it's Arenas or
because it's centered around poker, or that there's uh like
mob Boss isn't involved in this?
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Now?
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I love poker, I love high stakes poker, so I
want to I can't wait for the discovery and to
see how much was they were playing for, what the
setup was, how much they tip the dealers, all the
I want all the details. I love the poker aspect
of this, but it's Gilbert Arenas and the news for
the wrong reasons again. And I think Amazon, if I'm
(01:40):
not mistaken, didn't they say he's going to be.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
A part of their coverage next year.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
I have no clue. Yeah, I don't know who is
going where.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
You may be correcting Grady yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
That's the only one you saw Tracy McGrady yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
All right, But yeah, former NBA player that's going to
serve federal time, because you know the old saying, right,
if you're up on federal charges, you're gonna lose.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
And for those of you that are wondering, when Big
Mike here at Fox Sports Radio would come into the
studio and tell us that he played poker with some
mob bosses. Big Mike's on vacation this week, so yeah, no,
I know Cavino and Rich. Did he even do his
Cavino and Rich bit Mike's words of wisdom before he left?
Speaker 6 (02:20):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Do we know that we have them ready for the
last two wednesdays?
Speaker 7 (02:24):
He worked ahead on that. Okay, we have to make
sure that we get Mike's bits in even if Mike's
not here.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
He's on vacation, so he can't top any of Jason's
poker stories. But we'll get to the Gilbertarina's poker story
coming up again now in about a little more than
thirty eight minutes. But it is the middle of the week, Aaron,
it's the middle of the show. That means it's he's
not getting.
Speaker 6 (02:48):
It's time for the midway.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Jason Stewart developed this topic this segment. He can give
you the background then all you need to know on
today's discussion.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Thank you, Dan. I'll take it from here.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I'll take it from here. So so, uh, by the
way that that line, i'll take it from here.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I think that's the bat line calling the hot line
around on the FCC is calling me. We might be
taking off the air here pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I guarantee it's big Mike to talk about his poker games.
I guarantee that's.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
What it is.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
So Dan, this is Dan's idea. I don't know why
I'm doing this, but I think with the Hall of
Fame game tomorrow night, I think this is a great topic.
What what players right now playing? So like I think
Billy Wagner doesn't count.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
J J.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Watt doesn't count. What current NFL player playing right now
is a no brainer? Hall of Famer. The one aspect
that I tried to shoehorn in this is like, can
we pat say jack this up Aaron and take the
obvious letters off the screen that everybody knows. In other words,
do he take Kelsey off because it's a no brainer,
(04:06):
it's an easy one. Or do we leave him in
or do we have a production meeting on air?
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Dam.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I think that we can. We can name who is
just automatic no brainer. And what I think is going
to happen is somebody's gonna say a name and then
we're gonna be like, hold up, old up. I think
that's what's gonna happen. So I think we reverse that.
Speaker 8 (04:26):
I think it's like we take obscure like well, I
mean this punter is obviously in his net yardage and
like nobody else has any facts on that.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
We'll do it Jason's way. He's the producer of the show.
So who do we who do we have on the board?
So who do who do we know? Is going in Mahomes? Right?
Like if if Patrick Mahomes didn't play another NFL game,
he's in the Hall, and then you would go Travis
Kews Kelsey with that. I'm good with that. Aaron Rodgers, Yes, yeah,
(05:00):
for sure, I'm going to give you another one. Derrick Henry, Yeah, okay,
I like it. I think that Derrick Henry doesn't have
to rush another yard in his career and he's going
to be a Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I like that one.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
So that's four right now, Rogers, Mahomes, Kelsey, Derrick Henry.
Now we can have the discussion those do you think
it's those four? Unless something comes to mind, guys.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
I have a fifth?
Speaker 2 (05:26):
All right?
Speaker 8 (05:27):
And again this is where not having like the credentials.
I mean, Lamar Jackson is a two time league MVP
that feel that would be weird if he retire today,
and a two time league MVP who easily could have
won a third one. I know the window is small.
I just find it hard to believe that he would
not be in.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
I agree with that. I agree with that.
Speaker 8 (05:50):
And by the way, people disagree, I'm I'm more than
you know, come at me, but I'm just saying I
think that feels relatively no brainerish to me.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
I I would agree with that. I think Von Miller
is no doubt a Hall of Famer, super Bowl MVP,
Defensive Player of the Year. I put von Miller on
that list, and then I have I have one more,
And we can't do this for all thirty two teams
because I just what Trent Williams of the forty nine
(06:18):
ers is like a ten time pro bowler, all pro.
I think that Trent Williams is automatic in the Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
All right, So let me ask you another question. Are
we allowed to like look stuff up?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Okay, okay, cool? So it's not.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
I encourage it, actually because I think it adds to
the argument.
Speaker 8 (06:36):
Let me throw this in. Matthew Stafford top ten all
time in passing yards. Yeah, and there are a couple
other key stats, so no brainer from Sam.
Speaker 5 (06:46):
Yeah, Stafford's definitely in.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I don't think he'll be a first ballot. Actually it
depends on the class. Honestly, if there aren't a lot
of big names, I think they'll put a quarterback in.
I think that his resume is yeah, is solidified the
Super Bowl when stamped it, I agree with Stafford.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
I think Stafford, but he's not He's not in that original,
the original list, the Pat Satanist right correct, He's he's
up for, he's up for debate.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I think he could be the I think he and
Lamar are up for.
Speaker 9 (07:23):
Like you what you're saying, like they're right there.
Speaker 8 (07:25):
They're there, They're they're there, They're the reverse Lamar incredible
numbers in a small window and incredible individual accomplishment in
a small window. Matthew Stafford just production for basically two
straight decades.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
It's point and I think that if you if again,
this is if if the players don't play another down.
So like so, someone like Jamar Chase, who's had a
magnificent start to his career, is just maybe too young
for this argument. Like his he's got a he's got
a career that's trending towards being Hall of Famer. If
this continues, I don't think there's any doubt he's the
best wide receiver in the game. But as we start
(08:00):
to figure this out, like Terrell Davis, when you look
at Terrell Davis's numbers, there was a point where, like
Charrell Davis was the best player in football, but his
career was cut short because of injuries. He ended up
getting into the Hall of Fame. If something were to
happen to the Jamar Chase injury wise, I think that
there could be there'd be an interesting argument to go
(08:20):
along those lines, but I wouldn't put him in just yet.
And a guy still on.
Speaker 8 (08:25):
His you know, I hate to say, it's the Derreck
Rose corlery, right, It's like Derreck Rose was so clearly
on the trajectory and then just but he didn't reach
that point where it was unimpeachable. He was so good,
but then the injuries just started. They never stopped, and
it becomes either a debate or he's just not in.
And so you have a guy like Jamar Chase, you
(08:47):
have probably you know, a Jaden Daniels would be in
that window. I know after one year it's a little whatever,
but you know, you see them on the path, but
they just haven't accomplished enough to do it.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Yeah, I just need like a little bit more, Like
I just need he did like another year in the NFL.
That's basically all that it is. So Sam's got a name,
t J.
Speaker 7 (09:06):
Watt possible this I just purely by the numbers because.
Speaker 9 (09:14):
He's yeah, broken the record.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Nice. But I'm I'm I think, yes, I think that
that is. I think that's a.
Speaker 7 (09:23):
Like can you imagine him just like never getting in
Like I can't. I have to see he gets it
at some.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Point correct for what he's accomplished in his limited NFL career.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
Yes, like they haven't had a deep run in the
playoffs with him on the team, but mostly that's offensive issues,
defensive issues.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yes, yes, I think TJ. Watt is a good answer, Manzi.
By the way, Watt four time All Pro and eight seasons,
I think that says it. O.
Speaker 9 (09:48):
I have a nomination, Yes, Mike Evans.
Speaker 7 (09:53):
Oh, I would absolutely say. Yes, that's a great ant,
that's a great one. That's a great recommendation.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Mazzi. He is on my I wrote, I wrote twelve wait,
I wrote, I can't count fourteen names down, two of
which had nos. A couple of others had question marks,
including Jamar Chase. Mike Evans was on my list and
did not have a question mark. I think he's in, Yes,
I think he absolutely is in, just on a level
of consistencies with the different players that he played with.
Speaker 9 (10:20):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Granted you get a couple of seasons with Brady, but
with Baker Mayfield. I mean, yes, I am down with
Mike Evans. The other thing that I like about Mike Evans,
and if you're OCD like me, it's so fulfilling. You
just look at his yardage total and it's all four digits.
Remember the season he needed he was just shy, he
(10:41):
needed to get over a thousand yards. It's the same
thing with Curtis Martin. When you look at Curtis Martin's career,
just look at his rushing numbers and it's a thousand
yard season, thousand yard season, thousand yard season, thousand yard season,
thousand yard season, thousand yard seasons. Now a little different
in a seventeen game schedule, but Mike Evans absolutely, I
think that is a great nomination.
Speaker 8 (11:00):
Mike Evans a one thousand four yard season, also one
thousand six yard season, so literally one catch away two
times from not getting over there.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Just a little fun fact, just a little fun fact.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Like everything that he does moving forward is just like
extra extra frosting. Yeah, let me let me. I'll throw
one out there that's like the opposite of TJ. Watt
because TJ. Watt, in my mind, is like he's gonna
just start stacking even more numbers. This guy was a
Hall of Famer, I think two years ago if we
had this discussion, but is Russell Wilson still no brainer
(11:33):
or or is even a Hall of Famer?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
I said no. Ever, I don't, I don't. I don't
think so. I I know his early years in Seattle,
he was a part of that that team. I think
his best years were after that. The super Bowl. There
was no doubt he was He was good, and I
(11:56):
think that super Bowl will carry a lot of weight.
But how it is just absolutely flamed out over these
last couple of years, and maybe some of its circumstance,
maybe Denver wasn't the right fit. Maybe it wasn't you know,
Nathaniel Hackett was part of the problem. He and Sean Payton,
oil and water. It seems like all of those things
(12:16):
are could have been real. But man, it's it's I
just don't I don't think.
Speaker 8 (12:23):
So let me ask you a question about Russell Wilson specifically.
Is there another And I'm not saying he's an all
time great, So I'm not saying he's an all time great,
But is there an all time great quarterback whose best
individual years actually directly conflict with his team's best years?
Speaker 5 (12:39):
You know, like you could draw a pretty straight line.
Speaker 8 (12:41):
Brady's best years probably in a Super Bowl, probably winning
a Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Does Shaun Watson's best year is when they were like
four and twelve like that, Like I know, bad, bad,
bad example, but like that's what you're talking about.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Yeah, like like Russell Wilson last.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Year, Joe Burrow, yeah last year. Yeah there yeah, no
Maazia the way back, the way back.
Speaker 8 (13:06):
Chill, but even Joe Burrow, like the only reason they
were even relevant was because of him. Sure where I
certainly wouldn't say the Seahawks were relevant despite Russell Wilson,
But he wasn't even close to the biggest reason. I
don't know, It's just an interesting thought, Like I I
just there's not a lot of guys that were like
their best statistical years actually did not coincide with necessarily
(13:28):
the biggest winning the other.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Like Wilson's a ten time Pro Bowler, but then you
think of, like this Pro Bowl matter, Well, that's part
of the that's part of the conversation. Also when you're
like in the AFC and you're stacked, you know, I mean,
there was a time where it's Brady Manning, Roethlisberger, Rivers,
you know, all these quarterbacks, and so you're trying to
jockey for your spot in the Pro Bowl and you're
(13:52):
being blocked by these other guys. Not probably not too
different than right now with mahomes Lamar, Josh Allen, Joe
Burrow for other guys trying to trying to make their
way in. But I just it's funny because I don't
look at I don't remember ten awesome, awesome years from
Russell Wilson, even though I felt like I've watched his career.
(14:14):
The first two years the Seahawks were an amazing team,
and he offered them a dynamic. But that's what I mean.
It wasn't until they were past their Super Bowl where
Russell Wilson really took on the responsibility of being that
tough That's.
Speaker 8 (14:27):
What I'm saying, it's just a totally unique thing to
him that I can really think of.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
And if Pete Carroll decides to run marshawn wnch off tackle,
Russell Wilson is a Hall of Famer, right, because two
super Bowls get you win, so one play it comes
down to one play.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
You think, Uh, yes, I think so. Because Eli is
a bit in the same situation. Eli did not get
in last year. I think Eli Manning will get in.
I just I applaud them, the voters for not putting
him in as a first ballot, because if you put
(15:03):
him in first ballot, then every quarterback gets in. I
and so I think that they kept the bar. They
kept the standard. Eli Manning's got fifty seven thousand yards.
He's eleventh all time in passing yards. Russell Wilson is seventeenth.
He's eleven thousand yards short. And I don't think he's
(15:24):
going to pass Eli Manning. So he's got the one
super Bowl when Russell Wilson does. Eli Mannings got two.
Eli Manning was a four time Pro Bowler. Russell Wilson's
ten Giants didn't make the playoffs every year like the
Seahawks did, but again, as a Seahawks fan, there were
years where you're just like, are they're a playoff team
(15:44):
but they're not good enough to to do anything in
the playoffs. So that's that's where I just kind of
moved back off of it. Like like, if you want
to compare one super Bowl quarterbacks, Matthew Staffn's just had
a way better career than Russell Wilson has.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
Can I just say two?
Speaker 8 (16:00):
This kind of shows you like the shelf life of players,
like you think about these players that in the moment
we talked about so much that wouldn't even be in consideration.
Like I know it's bad example because he's running back,
but like we reference to Ezekiel Elliott earlier, like Zeke
Elliott was like a main focal talking point of a
great team and then it's just boom, He's gone and
(16:20):
never to be discussed again.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Just interesting.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
I think there could be there could be an argument
for someone like Ezekiel Elliott. But what about Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
If we're having this conversation a year ago, He's not
a no brainer, right correct?
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Yes, absolutely, I don't even think he's in consideration for
what he's done. But last year and now what could
end up happening. I also feel there's a lower bar
with current day running backs from as opposed to maybe
what we had previously.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
The other thing is this also is.
Speaker 8 (17:00):
What do you value as a quote unquote Hall of
Fame voter likes if Saquon literally did something that no
one has ever done, but he never comes close to
doing it again.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
And I know he didn't do what nobody's on.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
He get the point, like, do we value that more
than ten straight? You know, like if Joe Burrow just
threw some ungodly Joe Burrow's bags, some quarterback throws some
ungodly amount of touchdown passes but doesn't have the totality
of Matthew Stafford's career, Like do how do we value that?
You know, like that one individual season where Saquon was
the focal point of every conversation wins a super Bowl,
(17:37):
but maybe doesn't have the eight ten year run.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
I think that we like, gosh, I'm gonna say it, guys,
the it factor. Yeah, and I think that Saquon has
it and it's not meant to be a popularity, but
he is a difference maker. He made them a completely
different team.
Speaker 7 (17:55):
I agree.
Speaker 9 (17:56):
I got I got one. Okay, wait, sorry, I didn't
see you. Were you waiting? My bad? I don't see you.
Speaker 7 (18:01):
Let's go Sam first, then Monci, Well, how about a
guy who helped open up holes for him? This show
d pretty easy, Lane Johnson, I would think is a
Hall of fame. Yeah, that's a good yes, Yes, I
think that's so. That's when we can grant quickly, Monci.
I got a couple more names, Moncey.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (18:14):
Davante Adams, I put a question marked by him. I
like his his numbers are comparable to something like Mike
Evans overall.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Yes, the ring, the ring is the one thing right missing,
because I thought of Keenan Allen too, isn't isn't he
stockpiled stats? But but there's no ring there? How is
he and DeVante stock Yeah?
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Keenan Allen eleven and seventy four yards, it's good for
fortieth all time, DeVante Adams a few spots higher at
thirty third all time, eleven and forty four yards. DeVante
doing it in one year less than Keenan Allen. Keenan
Allen's a nice player. I think he'll be a Chargers
Hall of Famer or ring of honor. Guy, I would
(18:57):
not consider Keenan Allen as a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 8 (18:59):
I would say, respectfully, Keenan Allen the reverse factor. There's
just he doesn't like, you know, like Jamar Chase has it,
Garrett Wilson has it. I don't think of Keenan Allen
like that. Mike Evans has it.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Deavante Adams a three time All Pro to have that
six seasons of one thousand yards or more. His career
did get off to a slower start than others and
then developed into that top guy. But if you do
something with the Rams this year, I think that would
that would go a long way. If you have another
(19:37):
thousand yard season, I think that puts you into the
to the list. I'm gonna give you. I'm going to
give you a name. Gosh, okay, I'm gonna give you
a name. He's not playing right now. Controversy surrounding him.
Justin Tucker, because of his current situation, we think he's
(19:59):
the the greatest kicker of all time. This Justin Tucker
no longer remember of the Baltimore Ravens. Would he get
into the Hall of Fame because of this scandal surrounding him?
Speaker 4 (20:09):
How many field goal kickers are in the Hall of Fame,
is it? It's just a handful.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Yeah, there's yeah, Jon Stenner Rude is in, Adam Vintitry.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
Uh, Sue Morton Anderson, right.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Yes, Morton Anderson is in. Yes, I think that's a
factor in this. If he played like cornerback and had
this scandal, but he was a Hall of Famer before
the scandal.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
I think he gets in. I don't know. I don't
know if you let a kicker in who's had this scandal?
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Did he when?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Did he?
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Was he on the team when they won that Super
Bowl like ten eleven years ago?
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (20:39):
Okay, so the season that definitely helps, Yeah, it does.
He's I mean when you talk about who he was,
what he was playing, he the greatest kicker that we
have seen in the NFL, and now you have this
this scandal.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
I think he should be in.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
I wasn't gonna include him because he wasn't on a team,
but I think that the the name was the name
was interesting, and I'll give you another. I'll give you
two names that aren't. Zach Martin just retired. I think
that he would he would get in. And Cam Jordan
of the Saints. I think, yeah, you had Cam Jordan
written down. Yeah, yep, I think Cam Jordan's in. Anybody else?
Do we miss anybody else?
Speaker 5 (21:16):
I have one go ahead, go ahead, Miles Garrett right now?
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Then are out?
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Oh wow, Yes, I'd have to go to the stats,
have to go to the ball bark and I my
gut could be proven wrong. Jason, you bring him up
as a nominee, did you tilt either way?
Speaker 4 (21:38):
He just he just feels like a Hall of Famer
to me when I think about him. But I don't
know if the stats back then up. It's still very
young in his career. Maybe, I don't know.
Speaker 8 (21:48):
One hundred and two and a half sacks, fifty eighth
all time, head of Charles Haley.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
Charles Haley's a Hall of Famer, right, he just got
in like three four years ago?
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Yeah, so he And uh you know what if I
was quick to put TJ Watten to that point, yeah,
maybe I would have to change Maybe I would have
to change my tune TJ. I didn't realize he was
that high.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
Up five and a half career, more sex than Miles
Garrett does. Same year got drafted.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
To so Bo Benson came in he said, what about
Justin Jefferson, based just on the tear he's on right now.
I said, he's just not been playing long enough.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Here's here's the problem. And this is why the Mike
Evans argument I think is key because of how consistent
he was. It's not easy for receivers to get into
the Hall of Fame. Like there are great receivers that
are still like waiting to be enshrined. So for some
reason there's this I don't know if it's a bias
towards them or what, but their receivers have had to
(22:47):
wait a long time. They've had to wait a while
to get into the Hall of Fame. Only a very
few are enshrined in their first time out. I mean
too had to wait, you know. So so that's the
tricky thing. So like I'm I think that Justin Jefferson
could be on his way there, he's got the trajectory.
But yes, but it is it is much more difficult
(23:09):
for a wide receiver to get into the Hall of
Fame than maybe any other position. And the DeVante Adams
like we put him in, like I didn't put DeVante
Adams in. That also is part of the argument. So
maybe it's even tougher for someone like DeVante Adams.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
I'll be honest.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
When this segment was pitched, I thought it was going
to be a lot more definitives than there actually are.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
And it's not. It's not a good or bad thing.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
It's just I would have guessed there was twenty five
no doubt about hers and what are there about eight
to ten?
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Yes? Yes, and there are alignments and stuff like you
brought up Lane Johnson later on in the conversation that
we didn't have earlier on. But I think that that
was a that's a good no brainer mindse.
Speaker 9 (23:45):
Did we mention speaking of alignement? Did we mention like Chris.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Jones lately he's making a push. Yes, yes, I would
say for what he's done over the last three or
four years. Yes, three ring push mm hmm.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
Okay, I have a name then this guy, which helps,
by the way, ring those rings do help, if rings help.
This guy doesn't have his mini and his stats aren't incredible,
but he's been in the league a long time. He
has suit Kyle van Noy. Yeah, he's only pro bowler
one time, but he has two Super Bowl rings with
the Patriots. No, I yeah, no, Kyle Van No, that's
the first really bad idea. I mean, you have to
(24:23):
go to people who have Super Bowl rings. I mean
you have to go to people who have multiple Superwl rings. Right,
they don't just end up winning those. I think they
get favored, Like I'm not they do, they do. I
don't think Julian Edelman is a Hall of Famer. And
there are people who are making a case because of
the success that he meant with New England that he's
a Hall of Famer, and I don't, like, I don't
put him in the Justin Jefferson, uh, Devonte Adams sort
(24:46):
of Mike Evans sort of rull.
Speaker 8 (24:47):
And it goes to like what you value and then
also it goes to like the old I keep using
the basketball references, but it's like whose career would you
rather have, Robert ri or Carmelo Anthony, you know, And
it's like.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
It's kind of the same here with this situation.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Oh oh, oh, one more, right, one more. Jalen Ramsey, I.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
Was trying to think of a dB. I was like,
there has to be some dB with the numbers.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Does he have a ring? He's got a ring?
Speaker 5 (25:12):
Right the rams? Yeah, he was with the Rams that year.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
I the best corner for three or four straight years?
Is that what it was?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah, it's tough for me to judge. Like I feel
like the like Patrick's or Tana's on that rising way
of like and he's only been in the league a
couple of years where he can be that guy. Maybe
Jalen Ramsey was that guy for a while. What are
his accolades?
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Well?
Speaker 8 (25:38):
Three times first first Team All Pro, seven time Pro Bowl.
You know what's interesting I was thinking about this. Is
it the only position in sports where, in some cases,
the fewer numbers you have the better. He's only got
twenty four career interceptions, But how many times is it
like we're just not throwing to his side.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
Of the field?
Speaker 2 (25:56):
And he was a part of the Jacksonville team that
went to the AFC champion chick game against New England
that was led on defense.
Speaker 8 (26:04):
Oh man, it's also part of a Dolphins team that
just completely no show him.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Yeah, I think that's a good nominee. I'd put him borderline.
I think that he probably would get in in the
end when you give those numbers and where he and
what he's meant to those defensive teams, even though What
I think hurts him is that he's moved around a lot,
which I think hurts DeVante Adams of recent memory. All right, yeah,
there it is Midway for today the Midway. He's Aeron Torres.
(26:29):
I'm Dan Byer. Thanks to Manzi Blanios, Jason Stewart and
Iowa Sam As it is Hall of Fame weekend. I'm
sure we forgot names. Feel free to pass him along.

of the show. He is Aaron Torres. I'm Dan Byer
in for Doug Gottlieb. You can hear our conversation on
who would be in the Hall of Fame of players
right now in the NFL, and Derek tweeted in von Miller.
This segment went so long, like von Miller was one
of our automatic inns. Like earlier on we had Patrick Mahomes,
Travis Kelcey, Dereck Henry was one, Aaron Rodgers. I think
(27:36):
von Miller was up near up at least near that
group for automatic Hall of famers. So von Miller definitely
going to Canton. Someday. We're going to go to the
news desk. Monte Blanios is here with the latest. She
is no longer on tsunami watch. All is good going on?
Speaker 9 (27:52):
I was not on that watch, so I can't it good?
Please keep me updated. I was playing volleyballs at the
dentist side of busy Tuesday. All right, let's start in
the NFL. Isaiah likely Ravens tight end. He's gonna have
surgery on a broken bone in his foot that he
suffered during Tuesday's practice. He is expected to miss about
six weeks, but they think there's a big possibility he's
actually ready four week one if everything goes well. Bengals
(28:16):
have released veteran running back Zach Moss after one season,
and yet Trey Hendrickson has reported to Bengals training camp,
but he's there to be engaged in meetings and be
around the team and wait for a new deal because
nothing has happened yet, no movement in that contract. In baseball,
the trade deadline is tomorrow Thursday at six. Eastern Yankees
have acquired White Sox outfielder Austin Slater. The Mets are
(28:37):
acquiring bright handed pitcher Tyler Rogers from the Giants, and
the Reds have acquired third baseman key Brian Hayes from
the Pirates. In baseball, the Tigers have won four in
a row. They top the Diamondbacks seven to two. The
Blue Jays snapped their four game losing streak with a
nine to eight win over the Orioles. The Red Sox
Crews passed the Twins thirteen to one. Right now, the
Cubs have an eight to three lead over the Brewers.
(28:59):
It is top of the ninth inning. The Astros have
a nine to one lead over the Nationals bottom.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Of the eighth.
Speaker 9 (29:03):
In Houston and the rest of the games are a
little scoreless.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
Right now.
Speaker 9 (29:07):
In the NBA, Jonathan Kaminga is still declining the Warriors
two year, forty five million dollar contract offer. ESPN reports
that the Warriors have made another push to retain him,
and the NBA is heading to Europe for at least
six games in the next three years. The LEE announced
this today, So in twenty twenty six, twenty twenty seven,
NBA is going to play games in Manchester, England and Paris,
(29:28):
and then for the twenty twenty seven to twenty twenty
eight season, it's going to play in Berlin and Paris.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Back to you, guys, those don't resonate as much as
the NFL games do. But what will happen is like
on a Monday in January, you're like, why is there
NBA on right now? And it's like, oh, because they're
in London, right yes, sir, They're going to be in Paris.
That think the Spurs played in Paris this past year
with Victor Webin Yama and now even expanding in more
places like Germany. As you said, he is Aaron Torres,
(29:55):
I'm Dan Byer, that's Moncey Bolanos, while Manzi was playing
volleyball last night some of us can, including Jason Stewart,
and I'm not sure if I was, Sam was or not,
but we were caught up in tsunami watch after the
earthquake in in Russia that sent tsunami alerts all across Heck,
basically anybody in the northern Hemisphere that was on the
(30:16):
Pacific Ocean or in the Pacific Ocean was dealing with
it all up and along the West Coast. There were
watches and warnings. But Aaron Torre is you were you
were a little put off by by the coverage or
lack thereof that we saw last night.
Speaker 8 (30:31):
Yeah, you know, I tweeted something that I think some
perceived to be political. It wasn't even necessarily intended to
be that way, but it was just I turned on
every news station. So keep in mind, not half a
significant portion of the country is under tsunami watch. But
(30:52):
first of all, I only found out about this my
wife was like on TikTok, She's like, did you see
there's a Russia earthquake? And I'm like no, and then
she left whatever, and I wanted more information on it,
and I maybe Dumbley still have cable and so I
turned on every cable news outlet. I turned on our
(31:14):
local news, and when I turned it on, I can't
speak to you guys. It was the most generic, cookie
cutter whatever topic of the epstein you said, it not
a lot of epstein going on. It's not that that's
not important, but can we focus on the thing that
might put a couple of our states underwater? Because that
(31:35):
was the way that I perceived it when I read it.
And it's like if Hawaii, Alaska and the entire Pacific
coast is on some sort of tsunami watch, I feel
like we could take ten seconds away from the dude
that died four years ago to focus on this one
thing right now. I hope I'm not being inconsiderate. Maybe
I am. I don't know, but yes, it was frustrated.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Well, obviously we were affected because we're in southern California.
We're in Los Angeles, and so we're right by the
the ocean. I get why someone in Missouri Soway put
it this way?
Speaker 8 (32:03):
Can I I turned on our local news. There was
a segment on how the President's cuts to NASA affect us.
They don't affect us. NASA is in Cape Canaveral or whatever.
Can I get the thing about water washing on our
shore at this moment, that was our local news.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
The thing that I was gonna say is, though, is
I feel that there was there was a time, and
maybe that time has passed where everybody was thirsty for
breaking news, and so if anytime CNN could do breaking news,
you or MSNBC or anybody else you were drawn in.
They got to do it so much that you almost
felt like it was crying wolf, that there were things
that weren't breaking newsworthy. So now what makes their money?
(32:43):
Maybe is the the political angles that that that we
would take. I don't think that there's anything with that.
What I thought was interesting locally was we only had
one local station break in during their primetime programming. That
was our that was our ABC affiliate. Otherwise, America's Got
Talent was on NBC, and there was no jump in
when I jumped around there. I watched the Weather Channel
(33:05):
last night. That's that's in the weather stations. Fox Weather
had something going on the Weather Channel. That's where I
got my information from on what was going on here.
But locally, it was talked about locally when it led
the news. I believe here at eleven o'clock it was
talked about, but I would feel like something like that
even if you were in even if you were in Vermont,
like Arnie Spaniel, you would be like, wait, what's going on?
(33:28):
Maybe that's not the case anymore. Jason, did you watch
tsum Nami watch last night?
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Yes? I was riveted. I stayed up all night until
like eleven thirty because the number there was a countdown
to when it was going to hit Hawaii. Yes, there
was eleven o'clock our time or ten thirty our time.
There the waves were supposed to crush Hawaii. According to
a couple of things. I did it on Twitter. I
didn't watch TV at all. Most things in my life now,
(33:53):
news wise, I just follow on Twitter. Well that's what
I do.
Speaker 8 (33:56):
Let me default to that really quick, because that was
the annoying thing because I said something and people were like,
who gets their news from TV anymore? And I'm like, yes,
I understand that the world has changed, but is it
a twenty four hour news network. Isn't the baseline of
what they're supposed to do cover?
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Really?
Speaker 8 (34:15):
Is it their whole being of existence to cover the
really important?
Speaker 5 (34:20):
You know what? When it happens in the moment. That
was what was frustrating to me.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
I think that at some point somebody would take a
tsunami watch and make it political. But for your point,
at that point, like, that's what we just want to know,
and I do think that it would be like if
there are other people in other parts of the country,
you want to know, because I'll tell you what, if
you were in Hawaii yesterday, it's probably pretty scary because
you don't know. And we saw traffic jams and lines
(34:45):
of cars of people trying to get the higher ground
because you don't know, and that's in the story in
itself of whether their will or won't be damaged. But
there's also an island of people or islands of people
that are trying to get away. We saw what happened
with the wildfires, you know, they're a year or two ago,
and how awful that was. And now when you're on
(35:07):
an island really with nowhere to go except higher ground, Yeah,
it was.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
I was.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
I was surprised whether the weather channels had it covered,
but I was surprised locally on where it registered and
then nationally, to your point, I didn't see it on
those networks either.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Last least I start.
Speaker 8 (35:21):
I know we're more in the opinion space, but we do.
We are in the news at the end of the day,
and you if something happens, you and I have an obligation.
If we're planning on talking about Dak and the Cowboys
to lead the show, but Patrick Mahomes retires, we have
an obligation, or we should have an obligation. We don't
just sit there and say, well, you know what we
were planning. You and I were on air for the
(35:43):
NCAA tournament when Tom Brady came out of retirement. Did
we stick to our pre planned schedule or did we
go to oh crap, tom Brady unretired. Let's talk about that.
And that's that was my frustration with last night.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
Well, I was just trying to avoid what they were
throwing on the floor at WNBA Games. That's what I
was trying to stay away from. So I'm like, I'm
gonna wrap myself up in tsunami watch and deal with
it from there. No one knows. They didn't know how
to pick it up in Buffalo, no one knew how to.
They're like, I can't look like I know how to
do this. Right. I can't. I gotta make it look
(36:15):
like it's a foreign object. He's erin Torres. I'm Dan Byer.
That's Manty Blanio's Jason Stewart and I with Sam Ark here.
Gilbert Arenas arrested because of poker games. We'll have more
of the details next here on The Doug Gottlieb Show
on Fox.
Speaker 6 (36:27):

Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

(36:57):
dirty laundry comes out with one of the NBA's former
greats now in hot Water. He has Erinorias. I'm Dan
Byer in for Doug Gottlieb and Moncey Blanios has the press.
Speaker 9 (37:09):
The press it's going on Manci Well gambling.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
Apparently.
Speaker 9 (37:14):
I mean, I would love to have been invited to
a little poker game Gilbert Arenas, but I was not.
So Apparently Gilbert Arenas, NBA star, former NBA star, and
five of their defendants were arrested today on federal indictment
alleging they operated an illegal gambling business in which high
stakes poker games were played and an Encino mansion that
Arena's owned. He also there's pictures if you look further
(37:39):
into this, even the poker tables have him like his
last name Arena's and him like standing up. It's like,
you can't get away from this Gilbert Arenas, even if
you tried. There's messages between him and and all the
other guys that are very names that I can't pronounce.
But apparently these people have a lot of money. There
were ladies there to provide massa and drinks and bringship
(38:05):
exactly exactly. He has three counts that are he's facing
three different counts of different things. One count of operating
an illegal gambling business, one count of making false statements
to federal investigators, and one count of conspiracy to operate
an illegal gambling business. If he is convicted in any
(38:27):
of them. It's five years per charge.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
He's the name in all of this, Yes he is,
and he rented out his house. But to your point
of if you've got a table that says Arenas Poker Club,
you're going to be linked into it. Is this just
juicy because it's a former NBA player, Jason Stewart, you
love this? I'm not love it for Gilbert Arenas obviously.
Or is it because it's a poker thing? Yeah, b
(38:50):
I think the poker stuff definitely intrigues me. I want
to know all the details. The government hates when you
do things like this, then they don't get their cut,
and then Gilbert us being a former NBA makes us
a sports story. That's why I liked it, and that's why.
So if they're if they're not charging these fees to
rent the home and all this other thing and getting
(39:11):
their cut, are we at this point? I don't know
as much about it and how the feds work, but
it seems like that seems to be the sticking point
in all of this, right right.
Speaker 8 (39:23):
I don't much to add. I just feels like Gilbert
Orenez is always in something man.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
Not Oh you're absolutely right.
Speaker 9 (39:30):
I feel like this happens and we just don't know
about it. Like people who have money, like they aboard
and they're like, let's play poker for tens of thousands
of dollars.
Speaker 5 (39:38):
The difference was they were taking a cut.
Speaker 9 (39:41):
Well, yeah, if I low, it's a gaming and you
guys come over, but it's fifty dollars buy in. Nobody cares.
But it's because the amount of money that people care,
and it's they don't get the cut. Just like Jason said,
that's the problem here because you think if I hosted
and I made you all pay fifty hundred bucks for
a buy in, nobody would care. But this is probably
hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Sure, chefs, valets, armed security guards.
Speaker 9 (40:03):
Women for companions compan massages, Companionship, bring you a drink,
cocktail man, tough.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Times for Gilbert Arenas and others. Thanks Monzie. They get
out there and pressed.
Speaker 6 (40:17):
That was the press.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
It sounds like they had a full house during those parties.
He's Aaron Torres. It's been fun. We'll do it again sometime, Yes, sir,
I'm Dan Byrt's Doug Otlem Show on Fox. Bye
