Speaker 2 (00:26):
U's the Doug Gottlieb Show. And we're on a Tuesday.
NBA Finals start on a Thursday. We thought it was
gonna be a whole home show, and then the nixt
fire Tom Thibodeau, and now all of a sudden we
have something being to talk about. Let's talk about just
for a moment before we get to something about Brownie James.
I saw from Athlon Sports going back to yesterday, Tibbs
(00:48):
is out first Knicks coach to take them to a
conference finals in twenty five years. So the knicksid climbed
back into respectability, and now in their pursuit of a championship,
they fired their coach. Bold move. Cotton Now doesn't mean
though that it's that you can't get better. You know
(01:12):
that one guy gets you to a place place where
you're respectable and you're solid, and you're in your Eastern
Conference finals, maybe you need a guy to get you
over the top. Knows how to play the bench better,
knows how to stop transition game better. I don't know,
maybe knows how to needs to evolve a little bit.
Not sure. Mike Malone Jay Wright wouldn't stun me if
(01:33):
the name Jeff Van Gundy because of how well respected
he was as the Knick's last head coach had take
him to a finals and the job he did this
year's assistant coach just he's brilliant, he's a big mond,
he's a great mind, and he's a big name, and
he's worked in New York before. I'd have to look
at who Leon Rose represented because that feels like it's
(01:53):
part of it. But this definitely feels like a Carl
Towns was called Towns is catching a lot of heat.
Karl Anthony Towns was represented by Leon Rose when he
was an agent before he became the president. Now he's
the president, And I don't know if this saves s
Carl Anthony Towns to the next but it definitely it
(02:19):
definitely takes some of the pressure of the loss off
of Karl Anthony Towns. There's a statement out now from
Leon Rose. Our organization is singularly focused on winning championships
for our fans. This pursuit led us to the difficult
decision to inform Tom Thibodeau that we've decided to move
in another direction. We can't thank Tom enough for pouring
(02:40):
his heart and soul into each and every day being
the New York Knicks head coach. He led us not
only with class and professionalism for fast five seasons, but
also to tremendous success on the court with four playoff
berths and four playoff series victories. Unfortunately, we made a
decision we feels in the best interest of our organization
to move forward. Tom will always be part of a
(03:02):
Knicks family and we truly wish him nothing but the
best in the future. Okay, look, here's the thing. I
it's one thing. If it's like one year or two years,
and remember TIBs it took him until his mid fifties
to even get a head coaching job, as being a
lifer kind of assistant coach coach some of the minor
leagues as well. It doesn't have to be fair, it
(03:28):
doesn't have to be right, to be well within the
bounds of what the Knicks are gonna do. You have
a contract, long as they fulfill that contract, pay you
every penny. If he has any money left over, you'll
get all of it. And it's their decision to move
on again, doesn't that to be the right move doesn't
also mean it's the wrong move. We don't know about
the inner workings of the team. We don't know why
(03:51):
the defense had so many breakdowns. Is it Carl Anthony
Towns or was that Karlnthon Towns didn't jibe with the system.
I don't know. I don't know. I do know that's
a big challenge though, to follow in those shoes. And
I do know that there's been plenty of teams that
have gotten the Eastern Conference Finals, especially after beating beaten
up teams like you know, the Celtics collapsed in Game one,
(04:13):
in Game two, and then the Jason Tatum injury obviously
made it so they weren't going to be competitive, But
they did just beat the Celtics. That did really happen.
So it's surprising, nonetheless, that he's he's let go from
his position. Let me read you this other story this
from Athlon Supports yesterday. Twenty year old Brownie James is
said to be a part of the NBA roster for
(04:34):
much longer in the upcoming months due to his impressive
developmental league showing. I don't think there's any doubt that
that's their plan, and executive told Athlon Sports. I know
the guy gets a lot of grief because of who
his dad is. But we've seen a lot of tape
on Brianni. The fact is he was a lot better
in April than he was in October, and definitely in July.
He's twenty years old. He had a whole year where
(04:55):
his development was thrown out a whack. But he can
defend the perimeter. He showed us he can shoot the three.
If he can show us it wasn't a fluke. He's
going to be getting ten to fifteen minutes a night
because the team is going to feel like they can
trust him. Okay, I just again, I don't know who
(05:15):
the executive is. It is one, and I think there
was a There's one question that was not asked that
would be fair to ask, and that question would be
does he deserve to be Would he be on your
roster right? Would he be in the rotation, And yeah,
(05:37):
the numbers did dramatically improve late in the year. In
the G League. He shot forty four from the field,
he shot thirty eight from three. He did have end
up having a positive plus minus. I just ten to
fifteen minutes a game makes him a rotation player. Does
(05:58):
that mean they're replacing Gabe Vincent with him? I don't know.
And again, the the bigger part of this story is
not Bronnie James. It's part of it, right, because if
you're gonna play Bronnie that many minutes and you're going
(06:19):
to keep Lebron, You're gonna keep Austin Reeves, You're going
to keep uh Luca. I don't know how you're winning
a championship with three guys that that don't defend. But
the question becomes, how can bron How can Lebron walk
away after essentially mandating that they draft Brownie and not
(06:42):
draft Brice. You go from best at ever to worst
dad ever. Right if he retires at the end of
next year, Hey, I'm gonna retire at the end of
next year. Like, wait, well, you could have had Bryce
and made them draft and develop him there. Nah, Bryce
is fine, He'll fend for now. If you've ever raised kids,
you do know that that second born, third born just
(07:03):
they raised themselves. I know, I was a third born.
I literally got myself vaccinated. I vaccinated myself. I taught
myself everything I know because I'm a third kid. But
can you imagine if Ronnie takes that next step and
Bryce goes to Arizona and look, full disclosure, Bryce is
way behind Ronnie as a player, more athletic. Sure has
(07:28):
some plays which are interesting, but he's he's not an
NBA player. But Bronnie was an NBA player either, and
they drafted him and told us that he told us
that he'd earned it. So I just think it's very
unlikely that Lebron James will help Bronnie's development. And if
(07:52):
Bronnie develops into a ten to fifteen minute a game guy,
I think that's way too much to ask. But if
he does develop into a ten to fifteen minute game guy,
then what Lebron's gonna say is, hey, look, Bronni didn't
have much of a freshman year. He ends up being
a ten to fifteen minute game guy. Let's draf Bryce,
same thing can easily happen. We know how to develop players.
(08:14):
What it tells me is Lebron's going to play two
more years. That's what tells me. And as for Ronnie James,
would he will he develop into a rotation guy? I
don't think so. But the numbers, especially late in the year,
dramatically improved. But I think also if you look at
(08:37):
the numbers of a lot of people late in the
year in the G League, they dramatically improved because the
level of competition was as good as the end of
the year. Because at the end of the year, by
the time he was making plays, guys that were good
in the G League had already been called up. So
but gonna be interesting because as much as we think, hey,
(08:59):
these are ups, they're grown man. They get their contracts.
Like imagine for Gaye Benson, who injured two years ago,
plays this year and you're like, yeah, I'm gonna give
it my minutes to Brownie James. When I played, I
was a starting point guard for an NBA Finals team
a couple of years ago. And the big follow up
that's missing is would you trust him? Would he be
in your rotation? And that that wasn't answered for over
(09:21):
forty years. Tyrek has been helping customers find the right

James is a podcast This is what he said on
(10:33):
it on the Mind That Game podcast about youth sports.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Ran track and field as well, and we were like
super duper young. You know, we played football all the
way American football all the way through high school. We
didn't just tap it at one thing and just did
one thing all year round. And I think a lot
of kids burn they burned out. Do you just tell them, dude,
just okay, I'm gonna just do this one all year round.
I'm just played basketball, or just play volleyball, or just
(10:58):
play soccer all year around. You burn out, you know
at twenty two, twenty three, twenty four, you know, because
you've just been doing it our young teen Yeah, thirteen,
you know they I'm done. I don't even want to
play no more.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, I mean,
did my son's gone through that with basketball? Just there's
got to be more life than just just hoop. And
he did play all those sports kind of growing up.
But you know, everybody said, you know, you got to
kind of specialize whenever. I think there's it's a hard one,
(11:39):
right because it's not fomo, but there's a reality too.
If you're not working on it. Does it help you
in that sport and guys are going to be better
if that's all that they do. I think a lot
of it comes to the high school coaches because the
high school coaches they don't mandate it, but they sort
of mandate it. But it's also so how the high
(12:00):
school seasons and schedule comes out. I was a baseball
player and a football player growing up, as well as
a basketball player. Got to the high school, there's no
way you can do football and basketball just not really possible.
And there's definitely and basketball into baseball. I remember my
freshman year, and part of this is southern California, but
baseball starts like feb one, right and the playoffs and
(12:24):
basketball going until March. So by the time you come
out for baseball, even if and I was making several
baseball practices a week, but by the time you come out,
like people already have their positions that already kind of set,
and I wasn't good enough to come out and play.
So you're you know spots, you know, spot inning, spot
at bats, and then you get to the point like
(12:46):
what am I doing this for? I'm not that good
at it and I'm not getting the opportunity to be
that good at it. So let's just focus on basketball,
because with every practice I'm missing an opportunity to be
good at basketball. Do I think playing all those sports important? Yes?
I do. Do I think it's good for your body.
(13:07):
I do. I think soccer is great for people to
play all growing up. Unbelievable for your agility. It's a
physical sport. It teaches you spacing, you know, it's there's
obviously a great conditioning element to it. There's two types
of conditioning. It's not just about being able to run
around for a long time because you run slow. Then
you it's start and stop like like basketball, like football
(13:30):
in terms of speed and explosiveness. There's contact to it.
There's a lot of great things to it. What screws
it up is that you can literally play them year
round anywhere now and just because you can, mean some
do and they get ahead by playing that support more often,
and then the high school coach mandates it, and then
(13:50):
you kind of got to do it anyway. But I
would also tell you that it's like, hey, here's the
issue with Lebron. Okay, So Lebron talks about what he
did growing up and how it worked for him. Lebron's
raised two sons. I don't know if Bryce did, I
(14:12):
don't know if Browny did. But I don't remember seeing
any video of them playing football or playing them playing
baseball or tennis or pickleball or anything. They just played basketball.
So you are a dad and he acts like and
I think he does a really good job being as
good a dad as he could possibly be. So why
not make your sons play those other sports? Why not?
(14:38):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
I could introduce him for his what he did in music,
what he's done in movies, or just as a personality.
Everyone knows who ICEQB is, and everyone knows the Big Three,
and the Big Three is back. It starts June fourteenth
in Chicago at Allstein Arena, live on CBS and Vice Team.
(15:00):
The One and Only Ice Cube kind of have to spend
some time with us. Cube. How are you hey?
Speaker 5 (15:04):
What's up, Doug? How you doing?
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I'm good, bro. What's it like like you've been as
ingrained with these big name NBA players going back to
when you're making movies and producing music and recording music. Now,
obviously so many of them playing for you. But we
have an NBA Finals that's kind of devoid of those big,
traditional names. What's it like for you, as such a
big basketball fan to watch the finals with so many
(15:28):
new faces.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
Well, you know, I love basketball, so it's not really
for me about your name as much of you as
it is about your game. So you know, these are
the best players that could do it. I guess these
are champions this year.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, but I can even tell in the sound of
your voice. There's like a disappointment there, right, Like, I
get's great. I'd still rather watch the dudes that I've
watched the last twenty years do it.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
Without a doubt. You know. So the Finals we expect
to see, you know, a star studied event. Now you
just got to wait to the Big Three Stars Joint
fort ten to see a star studied event.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Yeah. That was kind of my point, which is it's
crazy the names that you're able to get to play
in the Big Three. What's it like it feels like again,
outsider looking in, it feels like, now, are you guys
asking as much or more selecting by that? I mean,
you know, do you get are you to the point
where too many of the former stars want to play,
(16:35):
and you get to select who's going to play.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Well, you know, we still ask the you know, the superstars,
because you never know what they want to do. Some
of them are really done. Some of them when they
when they're done in basketball, their basketball at age is satisfied.
And then you got some who still want to play.
(16:59):
Some guys they need one hundred million to play. Some
guys will play if you throw the ball out there
with enough people. So you just got to figure out
where the hunger's at. You know, we always say it
ain't about your name, it's about your game, and you
got to bring your game because your name is not
gonna last in the Big Three, no question.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
But you do ask some huge names, right Dwight, Howard, Kemba,
more Ready, Land Stephenson, Wes Johnson, montrezl Harrald. Who are
you most excited to see in the league this year?
Speaker 5 (17:35):
Dwight for sure, Lance, you know Montrez see how they do.
But I'm also Michael Beasy's the MVP, Joe Johnson three
time MVP. So you know, we got some formidable players
that's been proven in this style of basketball, and so
(18:00):
I can't wait to see clash on June fourteenth.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
It is crazy, Like I'm forty nine and Joe Johnson
used to come to our games at Oklahoma State when
he was being recruited and he's still getting buckets, still
getting buckets in his forties. In terms of legendary bucket getters,
he got my mood up. Du rouv. You got Joe
Johnson and you talk about Michael Beasley in your mind,
(18:27):
who's the best bucket getter in Big Three history?
Speaker 5 (18:32):
Wow? I would have to say Joe Johnson. Yeah, this
is tough. You know, they don't call him my sho
Joe for nothing. And you know what's great about our
style of play. You know, guys who've home their skills
and who have every trick in the book to get
(18:56):
a bucket, you know, have a place to play. You know,
these guys can't play eighty two games no more. They
can't go back to back. They can't do three games
in fort ninth. Some of them can, but you know
most of them, you know, first to fifty win. You
(19:17):
know it's light there on the NBA court.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
You know, you guys have been doing this for a minute,
and obviously you've talked about how many have tried to
take down the league, right, and you went public and
talked about how the NBA didn't want you guys to succeed.
What is it like to continue to build on this
league year after year when there's so much competition and
somebody who have tried to take shots at this league?
Speaker 5 (19:45):
And I'm used to being in this position, even with music,
even with movies, with you know, Q Vision or movie company.
You know, we've always had to prove ourselves in a
new space. So I feel right at home right here.
I wish it wasn't like that. It don't have to
(20:06):
be like that. I think we're very complimentary to the NBA,
but uh, you know, we don't need them to succeed,
as you can see. And uh, now you know the
sports world is starting to realize it.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
No, they are, they are starting to realize it. Right,
So why do you think in your mind? Why do
you think that people don't want to see you succeed
with this lake?
Speaker 5 (20:34):
I don't know. You got to ask them, because it
don't make crazy man sense.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (20:41):
You know, if if you act the crazy man, he'd
tell you do this, so, uh, he's scratching his head,
So it don't make sense to anybody but probably Adam Silvan,
Mark Tatum. And so once you get a chance to
interview them, lease act and fro me and like.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
You know, I will and we'll send you the table.
We'll kind of see what's up. Ice Cube joining us
here as we get ready. June fourteenth, All State Arena
and on CBS Advice, it's another season of the Big Three.
Dwight Howard playing Camball, playing born Ready, Land Stevenson playing
of course, Michael Beasley, Joe Johnson and others still playing.
How about you personally, like every mountain you climb, you
(21:21):
get to the top, this league, you built into a
consistent success story. What's the next mountain? Because again you
you've found them and climbed up them and conquered them.
What's next.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Build a house on top of them? You know, it's like,
we want to be here for a long time, so
we got to be great for a long time. So
I don't see it as you know, we've achieved our goal.
We've we've only just begun. As they say, we want
to be here as long as the nbare longer. So
(21:59):
you know, I'll take a lot of work to get there.
And I'm having a ball you know, I've had a
great career in music movies, and you know this is
a new frontier when it comes to sports.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Yeah, no question about it. What what for if people
haven't been to one of these events? Right? And I've
been right and it's a great show. But somebody's like, man,
I've always heard about it, but I haven't gone. What's
the experience like for a fan to come to say
they're going to come to All State in Chicago, that
that arena is really close to O'Hare they're gonna come in.
(22:38):
What's that experience?
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Like?
Speaker 5 (22:41):
This is the most fun you ever had at a
basketball game. What's great is you get four games for
the price of warning, so you get a chance to
see the entire lead and I think that's unique and
it's fun, and we have entertainment gonna start to finish,
(23:02):
and we got some great squads this year, so it's
like a basketball festival. You come out there and hang out,
and it's an affordable ticket, so that make it family
friendly and nobody's going to tackle you if you go
ask for a autograph from doctor J. The you don't
have to worry about that either. You know, it's it's
not all tight and buttoned up like you will see
(23:26):
that a bulls.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Gand I guess yeah, no, summer hoops with stars that
you know, and a game that's easy to digest, and
you know, it's kind of old school three on three
in the backyard. In terms of the physicality it is,
it is super physical. What's it like to get Dwight?
Because and and Dwight's game is going to be interesting,
right because it was so much based upon you know, defense,
(23:49):
shop locking, rebounding obviously still a value in the Big Three?
What was it like to land? To land Dwight?
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Great? What's good about this? In Dwight? He's gonna have
to show more skills than just defense, rebounding and dunking.
So in the Big Three, you gotta have a whole bag.
You got to be able to pass dribble shoe than
defend or you will get exposed. The help is not coming,
(24:19):
so you need to lock it up. And so he's
gonna have to show more than he even showed in
the NBA. So that's gonna be great to see because
I think he got it.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Hey, Q man, this is a great league. It's gonna
be a lot of fun. I'm gonna head down to
Chicago watch you guys. It's Big three dot Com slash tickets,
Big three dot Com slash Tickets. Of course you can
see you on CBS or on Vice TV, but as
Q pointed out, it's way better in person. If you
get four games, super family friendly, super affordable. I encourage
you to go out and see it yet another season.
(24:52):
The Big Three ask you thanks so much for joining us. Man.
I appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Appreciate you too.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Men. Take it easy anytime, and the things in your life.
Jay Stu that thirteen year old me would be like
elbowing me that while I'm doing it. Interviewing ice Cube
definitely one of them. And ice Cube knowing my first
name right, like having a working knowledge of Cube a
little bit. I've seen him at other events. It's really
(25:18):
nice to me. I mean, like NWAF the police. I
don't think there's any question of all the cassette tapes
that I had, was the most played cassette tape I
had in my childhood or adolescent hood, if you will.
Speaker 6 (25:38):
Yeah, I get it, that makes sense. For whatever reason
that stuff was off my radar. I I was all
about k rock music, grunge and iron Maiden and then
later and Wife. I began to appreciate it. But my
first ice cube experience was Boys in the Hood, which
was one of my favorite movies back then. Sure, and
he was so good at it.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Well yeah, and then was like Friday was our movie
from the two movies from my college days that resonate
the most, or that we play the most were Friday
and Something about Mary.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
Yeah, yeah, Sam and I went over to talk about this.
There's a couple of movies, Friday being one of them.
There's one that we just talked about. I think it
was the what's that Coen Brothers movie? The Coen Brothers movie.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
With Jeff Danelum and Dumber.
Speaker 6 (26:28):
No, not not Jeff Daniels anyway. Big Lebowski. Yeah, the
Big Lebowski. I put him in the same category, And
you tell me if if I'm wrong. It seems like
those are two movies that you enjoy most when you're stoned.
And I've never been stoned, so I think I missed
the humor and Friday, and I kind of missed the
(26:49):
subtleties of the big Lebowski.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Big Lebowski is very subtle. I don't obviously, what's it
called is not Friday is not a subtle is not
a subtle, It's not like in your face, But the
comedic lines are pretty obvious. And yeah, those are two
very different comedies from very similar eras. And so you
(27:12):
didn't watch Big Lebowski at the time when it came out,
like that wasn't on your radar then either, And.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
No, no, I watched both the movies when they came out,
but I have not been like these this long time
appreciator of those two movies. Both of those are iconic
movies for people my age. Yeah, because I never smoked marijuana,
and I always put them in the same category that
all my pot smoking friends absolutely love those two movies.
And there must be something they got out of the
(27:38):
experience that I didn't.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
I wasn't a pot smoker in college. I just I
don't know. It's just funny.
Speaker 7 (27:43):
The thing about The Big Lebowski is the dude, the
dude of vibes, but he smokes pot through the whole movie.
He's a pothead, but like the other characters aren't. So
I wouldn't call like a stoner movie. But it's definitely
like the dude is always chilling with his little little
tiny doobie. So you know, I saw Big Lebowski in
the theaters with my mom and she was like, she
(28:06):
really wanted to see it. She's like, I don't. I
must sew that movie. We came out in maybe ninety seven.
I was like eleven or twelve, but not probably enough
the best movie to show like a young boy. But
I remember it because it was it was funny. I
didn't get all the jokes, but I appreciate her taking
me now that I look back on it.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
No, I don't think anybody got all the jokes.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
The plot of the film is great. It's such a
well written film because it connects all these jokes and
all these like things that happened throughout the movie. They
kind of connect back, they circle back to them later
in the film, so it's pieced together very cleverly.

with Monsvillinios.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
The press.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Months. What do you got all right?
Speaker 8 (29:53):
Coach?
Speaker 9 (29:54):
We're gonna start with the big story of the day,
as the Knicks have relieve Tom Thibodeau of his head
coaching after five seasons, the Knicks just extending Thibodeau this
last summer on a deal that was supposed to take
him through the twenty twenty seven to twenty twenty eight season.
He finishes his time in New York with the fourth
most wins by a coach in franchise history. He led
(30:14):
the Knicks to their first East Finals in twenty five years.
They made the playoffs in four of these five years,
led the Knicks to consecutive fifty plus win seasons for
the first time since the nineteen nineties.
Speaker 8 (30:26):
And this is a decision they've made.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Uh yeah, I mean that's an interesting one, right, I.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Don't get it.
Speaker 8 (30:35):
I don't get.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Look, I thought there were several things they did which
were not great coaching. I don't get I don't get
as much into the rotation and fatigue stuff. But they
didn't have great defensive balance, yeah, most of that series.
And it look, it's hard when you play the Pacers
who play so different where they let almost let you
score and then they get it in a run it
back down the court.
Speaker 8 (31:00):
Incredible how they do that.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Yes, but at some point you've got to change what
you're doing in order to stop that, and they were
unable to do it. There's a bunch of different ways. One,
you can hit the ball when it goes to the basket,
get a delay a game. You can fire your guards
back all the time that didn't seem to bother them.
You can press on makes to actually slow the game down.
(31:23):
You can three quarter court press. You know, there's there's
lots of different tricks you can do in order to
slow the game. They were unable to do so. But
I mean, reality is they win game one, we have
a game seven, and that Game seven's at home, and
I don't put the game one collapse on Tom Thibodeaux.
I thought they could have fouled up nine. But again,
(31:45):
you know, better would be og n Noobi not not
playing so poorly and so tight down the stretch. But
it's the NBA. This happens, and it happens mid season
to good teams. You know, We've seen the Bucks make
a change midseason when they were playing pretty well. We've
seen the Heat make a change with Dan van Gundy
(32:06):
and ended up going winning a title, pat pat Riley
taking back over. We've seen things like this before. Yeah,
and so Mike Malan's available. That's possibility. Jay Wright's available,
that's a possibility. Jeff Van Gundy would not It wouldn't
stun me at all. Yeah, but it's it is surprising
that in year five they had more success than they
(32:27):
had in any of the previous four years. And then
you fire him. That part seems weird.
Speaker 8 (32:30):
Yeah, And I was gonna ask you, but you already
touched on it.
Speaker 9 (32:32):
I was going to say, is Game one the reason
maybe they're doing this that they felt.
Speaker 8 (32:37):
That that was his fault? I don't know, you know,
like you're never gonna forget a Game one? Nope, You're
You're not.
Speaker 9 (32:43):
And so Ben Stiller, you know, longtime, big time Knicks fan.
He tweeted a couple of things. He tweeted, I am
a Tom Thibodeau fan. He brought this team back. I
felt he gave every bit of himself and was always
looking to improve. I will always be grateful for how
he how far he brought the Knicks. They are relevant again,
They're a championship contending team again. The Knicks became winners
(33:06):
again with him. Thank you, Coach Tibbs. Then he says
we should all take Tims out for dinner and thank
him for profusely one by one for the incredible work
of the last five years in the excitement we have
all felt that we didn't feel for a long time
before he arrived. Respect and wishing him great success.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Great success, he must have great sixcess. We wish you
great success. What else?
Speaker 9 (33:29):
He's right, He's right, all right, Seals still here in
the NBA coach. I don't know if you saw this,
but the Orlando Magic have a new logo bringing back
their pin stripe uniforms.
Speaker 8 (33:40):
They should have never got rid of those, I.
Speaker 9 (33:41):
Know, and their logo also returning to a fan favorite
franchise symbol, the star that we hadn't seen. So now
back to the stars, back to the pinstripes.
Speaker 8 (33:52):
I'm all for this.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Yeah. Now the Hornet's gonna go back to their pins
right uniforms as well. I remember the pinstripes in the
in the ninety zis.
Speaker 9 (34:00):
Yeah, that was a good one too, in that color.
That was a cool color. Also, I liked about the Hornets.
Speaker 8 (34:04):
I don't know they should pinstrips always look good.
Speaker 9 (34:07):
But this Orlando Magic, it's gonna pop again, which is
what I what I'm a fan about.
Speaker 8 (34:11):
What I'm a fan about.
Speaker 9 (34:13):
All right, coach, let's move on here to the NFL.
You were talking about this earlier today. Demico Ryan's head
coach of the Texans, quarterback CJ. Strouds in his shoulder.
I actually got a little bit of sound for you
from Demiko Ryan speaking to the media today about this.
Speaker 10 (34:28):
He has general soreness and we're just taking extra precaution
with him. When he's ready to go, he'll be ready
to go. But I said, that's it for him, like
his general soreness. We're taking extra precaution with him. We're
not gonna rush him into anything. He'll be fine when
at the moment is for him to be ready to go,
he'll be ready to go.
Speaker 9 (34:45):
And in this in this set, we cut it to
make it short for you. But like somebody asks him
the question and then somebody has a follow up and
he kind of cuts them and is like, this is it.
Speaker 8 (34:54):
This is all I'm gonna say.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Yeah, I can't tell him. We will have to monitor it
because there is a world there when he gets when
a coach gets kind of terse about it, there's a
possibility that he thinks it's bs but somebody else is
telling him we got to shut him down for a
day or two. Yeah, or it could be this is
a big problem and he doesn't want to get into it.
I don't know what the answer is.
Speaker 8 (35:16):
I'm with you, and it's just I guess await game.
Speaker 9 (35:19):
But we'll see because I'm with him, like, I can't
tell if this is serious or you're just dismissing it
because it is serious. I don't know if you saw this, coach,
but there was a controversial moment caught on television by
the NCAA. Wake Forest baseball coach Tom Walter had to
apologize today for what appeared to be an anti gay
(35:39):
slur that was caught on television by the cameras in
their game against Tennessee.
Speaker 8 (35:44):
Now.
Speaker 9 (35:44):
He did a issue an apology, so did Wake Forest.
He said, I'm very sorry for my outburst in frustration.
Speaker 8 (35:52):
Last night, and I recognized our hurt and disappointment it
has caused.
Speaker 9 (35:56):
I own the consequences, and I apologize to the universe,
you have Tennessee, to Wake Forest University and the SEC
and acc Walter said that he watched the video, doesn't
remember the specific moment, but that the language doesn't reflect
his values or the standards of their program.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
Yeah, it was nineteen eighties stuff, and it's.
Speaker 7 (36:20):
Not what'd you say it?
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Man?
Speaker 9 (36:24):
Yeah, come on, and it's pretty clear what he says.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Oh, it's pretty clear.
Speaker 8 (36:28):
Yeah, that's like the problem. It's it's pretty clear. Not
really sorry, well yeah, but he had to say something.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
It's very clear what he said. M hm, very clear
what he said.
Speaker 7 (36:42):
Forced apology, not condoning what he said.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
But no, it's forced apology. It's not.
Speaker 7 (36:48):
Probably he says that. He says stuff like that probably weekly,
if not, you know more. And so he just got
caught on camera.
Speaker 8 (36:56):
Caught on camera.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Yeah, yeah, it's the old nineteen Nadi's locker room talk
getting guys again. Not okay anymore? No, not okay, Well
this was locker room talk. Let's see that.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
Well quick here, coach, we're coming down to the inter
of it.
Speaker 9 (37:13):
Just if you want to go to the Masters, they're
gonna raise their prices from one forty to one sixty.
Speaker 8 (37:17):
And it's because of secondary market.
Speaker 9 (37:20):
Even though they don't want that happening, I guess it
is still happening. So yeah, if you want to go
to the Masters, sixty not too bad.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
One hundred and sixty bucks. Yeah, the problem is not
the pay, it's it's how much. It's those tickets are
impossible to get. Yes, I don't understand what the secondary
market does to explode that, but.
Speaker 8 (37:39):
I don't know. But that's the press.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
They get out there and pressed. That was the press.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Okay, Jay Stu, you're looking for a lead store, You
got it. So Tom Thibodeau fired, fired. And the mistake
that a lot of people make, and this is where
I'll give Leon croz Rose low credit, is they get
that far and they think we're one player away. The
Knicks don't think they're that close, Otherwise they wouldn't have
fire their coach. This is the Doug Golip Show.
