(00:23):
you're having a great day. We're actually live outside the
river Walk in Oklahoma City where the NBA champions side.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
So interesting. Yeah, I was drying around this morning.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I was like, eh, NBA champions are here, whereas like
you know, if you're in LA, people are still kind
of freaking out, run up and down the streets, like, yeah,
we'll win one next year. The favorites again, got a
lot to get to this hour, including our good friend
Mark Medina will join us. He's our Fox Sports Radio
NBA insider. We'll talk about some of the movement in
the league. And Brett McMurphy will also join us as

(00:59):
I just again, I want to wet your appetite every
day with a little college football talk here on the
Doug Gottlib Show on Fox Sports Radio, including I gotta
ask Brett, like Alabama gotta be some pressure to take
another step, take a step back atop the SEC this year,

(01:20):
especially with how it ended not getting the College Fall playoff.
And then there's the rumors of hey, maybe Nick Sable
would come back and coach again. Is that actually true.
We'll get to that upcoming in about about twenty minutes.
But we do this every Wednesday. Wednesday is the middle
of the week. We do an hour pod before the
show drops after the show. It's a three hour run,

(01:43):
middle of the day, middle of the week, middle of
the show. We call it the Midway.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
It's not getting the middle here, it's time for the Midway.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Okay, guys.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Usually I take your feedback on the Midway, right Patrick,
you're sitting in Jay Stews's chair. I Low, you've done
this before. Obviously, Sam, you're a constant here on the show,
and so Sam, I do appreciate your idea of doing
the Midway on what your own team when it bottom's
out right.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Well, yeah, I had this idea.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Dave Roberts was talking about how we're kind of at
rock bottom here. Notable times that our teams have bottomed
out on or off the field. But we're gonna save
that for another time because you wanted to get something,
you wanted to get to something else, maybe more of
the liquid of variety.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah and no, it's we'll do a beer one at
some point here getting ready for the football season. I
wanted to do an overall coffee discussion. Who whooh no,
because there are things that have changed in our society
right like and I low you and I will connect
on this where you think you're younger than me, but

(02:55):
about but close to the same age.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Samy, you're a little younger than me. Obviously, Patrick, your
way are your name.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
But it's the idea of when when we were kids,
we didn't go out as much, and when you did,
if you were going to go watch sports on TV,
it was almost always with your youth team. And then
it was also to eat pizza, whereas now like wings
are probably the wings that become bigger than pizza. I
think could be wrong in terms of gathering to watch

(03:22):
sports like wings weren't that big a thing in the
eighties and nineties. They just weren't right And coffee has
coffee is now what soft drinks used to be right.
Soft drinks used to be used to stop somewhere and
get it and get a big gulp a right seven eleven,
you get a big hope. Now you stop somewhere and you

(03:44):
get a coffee iced coffee latte.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Very customizable.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Correct, So I wanted to have the complete coffee discussion. Right,
let's start with and I have pre screened you guys.
All of you are coffee drinkers. Correct, So like I low,
you bring your own from home.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
Sam, you want to handle this one on my behalf.
I describe what you're saying, right, Isaac. It's a fancy man.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
He's got a little coffee cup and a saucer, a
porcelain saucer, porcelain coffee cup, and it's not a normal
sized coffee cup.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
It's like it's a cappuccino. It's a cappuccino. So it's
very dainty.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Not saying you're dainty, Isaac, but it's a fancy, dainty
little cup. And you look very British drinking out of
it like you'd be drinking your afternoon tea. But I
really respect that because I've brought in porcelain mugs before.
Because I just maybe like I don't want to drink
out of styrofolme today. So, yes, Isaac is pro coffee.
I'm I don't know about Patrick though, I'm pro coffee.
What about you?

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I appreciating Kat Patrick's He's a coffee Oh yeah wait?
So wait ilo you you bring it from home?

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah? Always?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
What's your home brewing technique? Though, by the way, whole
brew at home? So how are you perk drip French press?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
What do you do?

Speaker 6 (04:56):
I'm a huge snob. So if anybody w has a
problem with this at Isaac lohen Kron on social media,
I have just a simple drip machine.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
But you're talking about with the paper filter in the ground.

Speaker 6 (05:11):
Very simple. I grind my own beans. I don't get
preground coffee. It's freshly ground and then it goes right
into the thermost to keep it at its peak taste.
And I only have my coffee black, no cream, no sugar,
no crap, because there's a difference between coffee and coffee drinks. Now,

(05:31):
if you grind your own beans and make it the
right way, it tastes so good you don't need any
of that other crap. Again, if anybody out there has
a problem with it.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Half.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
You know what, I don't get these fruit fruit beans.
I think if your technique is good, when you're Isaac
lah and Kron, you can get average beans at the
grocery store, like I get the average beans at Trader.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Joe's medium rice right in the middle.

Speaker 6 (05:59):
But with my skill, I can make him a lot
better than most people can make. These freu through twenty
two dollars bag beans that were roasted ten minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
He does sound like somebody who shops Trader Joe's, right,
he just does.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
He nailed it. He killed itself as the Trader Joe's
shop put.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Good quality products out there. I will say do.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
But let's let's not go crazy, right.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
I still like cheerios, not cheery What are they called
the j Ros Trader Row?

Speaker 2 (06:27):
I don't know, cheer Trader roa? Yeah? Yeah, all right? Patrick?
What's your coffee of? Of? What do you do for
your coffee every morning?

Speaker 6 (06:38):
Hang on, hang hang on? Here's Patrick's answer.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Listen.

Speaker 7 (06:40):
Double cappuccino, half calf, non fat milk with just enough
phone to be esthetically pleasing, but not so much that
it leaves in the spash.

Speaker 6 (06:47):
Is that right? Patrick?

Speaker 5 (06:48):
No, sister, but what was that from I recognize that Frazer.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, was that his sidekick buddy his brother?
Not oh yeah, great, yeah, I forgot yeah brother, it's
sidekick buddy.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah, there's the dog too in the dead but go ahead.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
No.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
So, my my coffee is, uh, it depends. It's one
of two. It's I do like the warm and I
do like an iced coffee. Now both of them are
pretty similar. I tend to go on the lighter side,
like I like my coffee really really blonde and pretty
much as everybody says, oh you hate coffee light roast,
so yeah, and I like it really sweet. Just you know,
I'll put in like an Italian cream, a sweet cream,

(07:27):
or like a peppermint mocha, and just absolutely make it
absolutely sweet because I don't like it a bitter.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
I'm just I will say this that I have my
old radio producer Adam Klug, What up cougar.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
He had a great saying about iced tea.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Which was plain, iced tea exists on this earth for
one reason.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Do you guys know what that reason is?

Speaker 4 (07:48):
To sweeten it, to be sweetened?

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Right, And I believe that black coffee exists for the
same reason. Right to be sweet, like anybody's like, I
just like black coffee, no sugar, no cream, no nothing.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Is that how you like it?

Speaker 6 (08:00):
I love Yeah, if you make it the right way
as it has plenty of taste and complex flavors and
even some sweetness.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Kind of enjoy the taste of asphalt, That's what it says. Anyway,
I think you go a little bit overboard, Patrick, But
it's also because you're young, and the older you get,
the less you sweetened. Or maybe you just go like
screw it, maybe when you get your seventies and you
just throw like my mom's like six things of sugar
in there, like whatever. Anyway, you're allowed to do what

(08:28):
you're allowed to do. Sam, what's your what's your coffee
of the month?

Speaker 2 (08:33):
What do you for coffee?

Speaker 8 (08:34):
So?

Speaker 5 (08:34):
I like a good medium roast. Lately I've been buying
this Lavazza perfetto.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, yeah, sure, h in it.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
I buy, you know, I buy.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
I have a coffee grinder, but I buy a ground
just to save a minute or whatever. And I do
like the French press, and I like drip coffee. But
I have a little French press at home and it
makes a strong cup. You got like the sediment in there.
It's like kick adds a little extra punch. It's a
thick brew. It's a thick brew. And I just put
you know, some two percent some whole milk or half
and a half in there. No sugar. I used to

(09:04):
add sugar when I was younger. No honey or anything,
No mocha or you know, whatever, cinnamon, whatever you might
add in there. We got no sugar, no sugar, just
just your standard cream in there. And I want it
to be just a little bit lighter brown than what
the coffee looks like originally.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
And I'm good to go.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
And a lot of times I'll go over to like
Whole Foods, or I'll go over to you know, seven
eleven buy a cup of coffee. It's never quite as
the seven eleven stuff. It's never as strong as like
the Whole Foods.

Speaker 9 (09:30):
Are my own.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
Concoction at home, but gets a job done. I'm not
a fan of like Folgers or Maxwell House. I hear
those are grown like a lower elevation or something. It's
they're different beans. But I like it right in the
middle because a light roast. I don't know if Patrick
knows this, but a light roast has more caffeine content
in it because less the less that a bean, the
less that the lesser than a beat. Am I even

(09:53):
saying this right, that a that a bean is roasted,
it keeps a higher caffeine content.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
So a darks is an amazing dark friendship.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Much we all know about coffee.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
And then I was like, hey, tell me about your
taxes and the tax breaks you get, like I got
someone else. I get somebody else to do that, like wait, wait,
that's your actual money. Whereas the coffee were like did
you know, did you the lighter roast is actually more cabinet?

Speaker 2 (10:18):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
And by the way, also anything you hear from somebody
else about coffee, if you like it, everybody uses it.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Right.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
That's there are three hundred station that just became a
fact in everybody's mind that anytime you get questioned about
a lighter roast, like did you know light roast is
actually more caffeinated? I brought up this topic because it
is an amazing unifier.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Right, it's an amazing unifier.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Talk apongst yourselves coffee?

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Right, where's the topic? Your favorite brew is?

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Me?

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Linda Richmond and I had one today that was I
never had before, and I've had I feel like I've
had every kind of coffee, Like I believe I know
what the greatest Starbucks order is.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
I'll share with you a second.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
But I had at a place Soclome City a cold brew.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
I think it was cold brew Sprints is what it
was called.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Anyway, Basically it was like club soda and then cold
brew happening interesting And then I put a little cream
in there and a little simple syrup and I'm it
was fantastic on a hot summer morning.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
I was like, this is amazing. Who thought of that?

Speaker 4 (11:24):
Getting that pep in your step?

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (11:26):
You heard of people putting coca cola in their coffee
or like you can actually buy I think they had
a special coke put out, like a coffee plus coke
combo that it kind of reminds me of that. But
carbonated Seltzer water, right, soda mixed with cold brew and
then a couple of that's interesting.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
It's a little cream.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
It's like it's like a caffein. It's like a coffee
soda soda. Interesting.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Yeah, it was really good.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
But I and then my my like, huge is I
have no use your now? I love my huge is
I have no use?

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Are your usual?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Like, I'm thinking about becoming a self brew cold brew guy.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
That's not rocket fuel, man, That stuff's rocket fuel.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Let me get this straight.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Do you do a French press or you just leave
it like in a big jug with beans overnight?

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Is that what you do?

Speaker 10 (12:14):
Know?

Speaker 5 (12:14):
I do the French press, so I put the little
ground to the bottom, hot one on top, mix it
after a few minutes.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Then no, But I'm mistake a cold brew like a
cold brew. Don't you leave it overnight and it soaks?

Speaker 7 (12:23):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (12:23):
I just buy the cold brew? Yeah, yeah, somebody, I
know what you do?

Speaker 2 (12:26):
I think to make the cold brew at home?

Speaker 5 (12:29):
You know, don't it's always like more concentrated and more potent.
I don't know, like how you make col brew. I
really don't. I really don't know, but I always know
that it's like it's just more potent and powerful. When
I drink it, I'm like I'm gliding across the sky
after I have a cold brew.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
I don't know, Isaac, Do you know anything about cold brew? Isaac?

Speaker 6 (12:47):
I'd buy it for my wife all the time. But
that's the extent.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Some people make it their own but we usually just
buy it like in a can or a bottle, like
one single serving, ready to go, and uh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
I mean I definitely feel wasteful, There's no question. I
feel wasteful as Hell'll go and buy Colebrew, like dude,
like this one, I could have made it home.

Speaker 6 (13:05):
Now, what's your routine though? Because you live out on
a out on the lake, right, I mean do you
what do I get?

Speaker 9 (13:12):
Ah?

Speaker 1 (13:12):
I have a I have one of those Ninja coffee makers.
Oh nice, it's great. And so what I do is
I make it's like a it's like a double pull
of espresso, and then I foam a little cream with
just like a little bit of like flavored oat milk,
just for a little bit of something. And then I

(13:34):
have my first cup there with my dogs, and then
it begins a series of different coffees throughout the day.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
I love coffee.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
How many would you say?

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Three?

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Eight eight ounce servings? You three a day?

Speaker 7 (13:50):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Eight ounce served?

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Well, like just your normal whatever, a six ounce serving,
eight ounce serving coffee.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Like an eight ounce to start the day.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
And then usually I'll have or somebody will buy me
or we'll go get a cole Brew at some point
in time and then usually come like mid radio show,
they'll be another one. If I haven't worked my way
to Arnold Palmer's. Like, I literally go coffee until like
a certain point, and then I go Arnad Palmer's.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
You know, my theory is that coffee is the best
legal performance enhancing substance there is anywhere, because if I
came in here without having had my coffee, I would
sound like this because that's my baseline state. When you

(14:38):
guys hear me, it's always caffeine fueled, And I think
for what we do, for what a lot of people do,
maybe it's a placebo effect for me, but I think
it just makes you generally sharper and more energetic.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
All I share us with us your coffee routine. And
if you're like A, I don't like coffee, Okay, you're
that guy. It's fine, but you have to brad that
guy something specially about being the guy. Well, I say
six dollars a day because I don't like, Okay, you
don't have to spend six dollars that you can brew
it at home as Ilo does. I'm just surprised that
Isaac doesn't brew his on his neighbor's machine with his
neighbor's beans.

Speaker 6 (15:12):
I didn't say that. I didn't do that.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
You go, are we all properly for clemps?

Speaker 6 (15:17):
Now?

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Yes we are. That's the midway.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
The midway coming to next to the Doug Gothleeb Show,
Will Alabama be back? And what about the pressure on Texas?
Plus Mark Medina ways in on the latest with the Lakers. Wait,
do you hear what Marcus Smart said was the tipping
point and why he wanted to become a Laker? That's
next to the Doug Gottlieb Show. But first, Oh, my

(15:43):
sleep number settings forty five?

Speaker 2 (15:45):
So what's that mean?

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Okay, zero is the softest think of I don't know
that kid in middle school's waterbed, right? Remember that, Hey,
and a hundred is the firmest. I thought I was
a firm guy. Went in a sleep number store, laid
on all the mattresses and they showed me just the
right mattress based upon pressure points in my back, and
just the right setting.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
It's forty five. It's right in the middle.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
And you would think that right in the middle is
any bed you go and sleep in. But it doesn't
matter what a hotel or where I sleep. There is
nothing nothing like going home to sleep in personalized comfort
like my Sleep Number bed. All sleep Number smart beds

Speaker 2 (16:39):

Speaker 8 (16:57):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottle Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 11 (17:07):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing. We
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.

Speaker 12 (17:16):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber lit Leam and me. Well
you know what it's called over promise. You should be
good at it because you've been over promising women for years. Well,
it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we want

(17:37):
you to be a part of it. We're gonna be
talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk life
and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing about
something or we didn't have enough time, it will continue
on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 6 (17:48):
Well, if you don't get enough.

Speaker 11 (17:49):
Covino and Rich, make sure you check out over Promised
and also Uncensored by the way, so maybe we'll go
at it even a little harder. It's gonna be the
best after show podcast of all time.

Speaker 12 (17:58):
There you Gomson. Remember you could see on YouTube, but
definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Cavino and Rich
on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you get
your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio app.
We got to Mark Medina up coming in about eight
or nine minutes. I wanted to continue the conversation getting
ready for the college football season with our good friend
Bett Brett McMurphy. He joins us now on the Doug
Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio, and Brett, you and

(18:32):
I are both Oklahoma Stata lums, but we actually talked
a little Oklahoma football earlier on the show. Somebody I know,
you know, Mark Rogers joined us and last year I
deemed Oklahoma to be the most interesting team in the
country because you go from being dominant the Big twelve
to I think kind of just another team in the SEC.

(18:54):
Now you have people saying, you know, all of a sudden,
they're gonna flip it this year. What are your thoughts
on the state of Oklahoma football in year two in
the SEC?

Speaker 9 (19:05):
Yeah, Doug, I'm not sold on Oklahoma just flipping it
that easily. Uh you know there, I just think there's
too many bodies for them to climb over. And in
the SEC, you know, I know you got a new
quarterback in there, John Mattier. You know people that question
him look at well, your competition last year you know

(19:29):
at Washington State is not anything like you're going to
face in the SEC, and I think it's going to
be tough. I mean, Oklahoma obviously made the right move
going to the SEC, but I don't think it's going
to be an easy transition. I think it's going to
take a number of years. And I don't think it's
something that they can simply do, simply do overnight and

(19:50):
flip the switch, because I think anybody you know, objectively
would say, Oklahoma, you know, a best right now is
the middle of the packed SEC team? Now? Is that
always going to be the case? Maybe? Maybe not, but
you know, there's there's just you know, there's too many
just solid, solid teams that they need to surpass that

(20:10):
are really really good. And I don't think it's going
to I don't think it's going to be that simple,
and I don't think it's going to be a one
one year fix to do that.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Okay, their big win last year was against Alabama, right,
and it's the it's the game that kept Alabama out
of the Collegeotball playoff year. Two different coaching staff at Alabama,
what's that look like?

Speaker 9 (20:33):
I really like Alabama this year. I don't know necessarily
if I'm going to pick them to win the SEC.
I think they're they should be pretty set on getting
to the playoff. I think they should anyway. I mean,
what Caitlin de Bor's coaching career, He's been incredible, and
then you know, having to follow up after Nick Saban

(20:53):
was nobody knew nobody, everyone knew it was not going
to be easy. I think with Ryan Grubb coming back
as offensive coordinator, who is with him at Washington, I
think that will that will be big for them. Uh
you know, I talked to him at SEC media days
and in Atlanta, and they've got you know, they've got

(21:13):
three quarterbacks. He said, Ty Simpson right now would be
the starter, but you know they've got two other options there.
And I think that that'll play out throughout the season.
You know, they get a you know, we'll find out
to find out early. I mean, they get at Florida State,
you know, almost a two touchdown favorite. That's a game
they should win. But it's not not going to be

(21:35):
easy because you're gonna have Florida State trying to make
up for all of last season in one game. And
then they go at Georgia to open up SEC play.
But a number of people whose opinions. I respect a great,
great deal actually have Alabama as the number one overall
power rated team in the country going into going into
the season. I don't know if I'm not sold on him,

(21:56):
but certainly I think I think they're going to be.
I don't want to thing much improved over last year,
because they still were decent, decent team last year. They
just didn't match up to what Saban had done. But
I think they will get the double digit wins and
I do think they'll get they will get to the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
I don't know how good he is. I don't know
what it ends up being. I do think that the
way it worked last year was probably the best thing
ever for arch Manning where he got a couple starts,
but there wasn't the pressure of it, so he could
see some you know, he could see some light bullets.
Now it's his team. What does Texas look like with

(22:33):
arch Manning at quarterback?

Speaker 9 (22:36):
Well, you know, it's funny. I'm sure you saw the
clip from a couple couple of weeks ago or whatever
where Steve Spurrier was asked about Texas and he's like, well, yeah,
everyone's picking him to win the SEC and you know
they've already given the Heisman Trophy to arch Manning, and
I just want to know, if arch Manning's that good,
why didn't he play more last year because he was

(22:56):
behind a guy that was a seventh round NFL pick.
You know, I don't think that's a fair analogy, but
there are some Texas people that are wondering that themselves.
I just think I think Texas is solid.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
I love what just real quick, Doc, Jani Rup, go ahead,
up just a little bit, Brett. This is like when
Justin Peels is at Georgia though, like right, it's so hard.
Some guys are better college quarterbacks than NFL quarterbacks, and
once the guy starts for a year or two, really
hard to beat out an incumban, really.

Speaker 9 (23:26):
Really yeah, And I think, and you know, I think
it's you know, he's a Heisman favorite. I don't think
that's fair to him. I think I don't think he's
going to live up to the expectations, Doug. And I
don't think it's because he's not a good player. I
just think because the expectations are so out of whack.
You've got Fine Bomb saying he's the best quarterback since
Tim Tebow. Fine, bomb obviously was in the sun too

(23:48):
long this summer. It's not fair and he can't live
up to those expectations. And you know, this Heisman Trophy
favorite the last several years usually means one thing. He's
a favorite, you're not going to win it. I don't
think he's going to win it. I think people will
nitpick at his game. If he throws three touchdowns in
an interception, people will talk about the interception instead of

(24:10):
the three touchdowns. With that being said, if they win
at Ohio State, the hype I think the high trains
hype train is bad now, it'll be out of control.
And I do think that's actually a game they can
win because Ohio States, you know, replacing a ton of talent.
They've got. Both coordinators are new. So that's the game

(24:30):
Texas could go in there and win. Texas has shown
the last three years. They went on the road and
won at Michigan. Yes it wasn't the same Michigan that
won the national title, but still a very solid defensive team.
And the year before that, you know, they also went
on the win on the road and won at Alabama.
So I think I think, I think Texas can really

(24:55):
cause an issue for for Ohio State, Sure.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
I don't.

Speaker 9 (25:00):
I think there's a handful of teams that can win
the SEC. Certainly there's one of them. Anything short of
the College Football Playoff would be a huge, huge disappointment
for the long Huns.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
All right, really quickly.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Last year it was Indiana and to a lesser extent,
SMU through a couple of soft schedules, but teams that
made the College Well Playoff.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
If you had to.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
Guess one non name brand team that makes the College
Well Playoff this year, who.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Would it be?

Speaker 9 (25:30):
Man, I'm actually in Vegas now for the Big Ten
Media Day, so I'll give you two from the Big Ten. Illinois,
which I think is going to get a lot of
high anywhere. I think they will end up being a
preseason top twenty five team. But they've got literally almost
everybody back. And then also I think Washington could surprise
a lot of people. They've got the quarterbacks. Quarterback back

(25:53):
from last year, he only started like the last two games.
Just talk to Jet Fish, you know, he's thrilled with
this kid, and they're really talented. They've got the nation's
second longest home winning streak. Last year. They just they
weren't a very lucky team. They outgained nine opponents, but
they only won four of those games. Usually you outgain

(26:14):
your opponent unless there's a lot of turnovers, and different
factors usually win those games. So they also lost three
games by less than seven points. Usually those kind of
things historically kind of flip the following year. So I
would keep an eye on Washington and look, like I said,
second longest home winning streak, second consecutive year, they've got
the defending national champion come into Seattle. Ohio State visits

(26:37):
the Huskies the last week of September, and I say,
they beat Michigan at home, can they do the same
to Ohio State? And so I think you'd have to
seriously consider the Huskies.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
All right, awesome stuff, Brett. Can't wait to see you
out in the road this season. Thanks so much for
join us. We will talk to you and have you
on very very soon. Thanks, thanks so.

Speaker 9 (26:54):
Much, Thank you. Thanks being gets.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
You to Isaac lowin Kin get a quick update. I
low iting up.

Speaker 6 (26:57):
But Doug Shoho Tani has homered in a fifth consecutive
game and now leads the National League with thirty seven
home runs as the Dodgers up one nothing over the
Minnesota Twins going to the bottom of the second inning.
The Kansas City Royals up eight to four over the
Cubs at Wrigley Field in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Kansas City's Salvador Perez has homered for the fifth time

(27:20):
in his last five games. Kansas City's Vinnie Pasquentino, with
two home runs today, now has seventeen on the season.
The Cubs Pete crow Armstrong just hit his twenty seventh
home run of the season. Earlier, the Mets beat the
Angels six to three to sweep their three game series.
Pete Alonzo with three run home run his twenty second
might trout a home run in a losing cause.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
What else is new.

Speaker 6 (27:41):
He now has three hundred and ninety six home runs
in his career and nine hundred and ninety nine RBI
and Rafael Devers hit two home runs of the Giants
nine to three win at Atlanta, as Justin Verlander finally
got his first win of the season after starting n
eight in the NFL. Multiple outlets just reported that are
signing free agent safety Julian Blackman to replace the recently

(28:04):
retired Tyron Matthew. NFL media reports Miami Dolphins cornerback Already
Burns feared to have suffered a torn acl today in practice. Doug,
back to you.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. You hear
that music, You know what time it is. It's funky
cold Mark Medina time, That's what it is. Mark Medina's
our Fox Sports Radio NBA insider. He's kind of to
spend some time of this year on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Okay, Uh,
Mark man a lot to get. Did you see Marcus

(28:39):
Smart's comments on why he ultimately picked the Lakers. It
was because, well, Luka Doncik recrureed him. I mean, we've
heard all this about it being Luca's team, but I
gotta think that doesn't sit well with Team Lebron that
Marcus Smart wants to play wants to play for the
Lakers because of Marcus Smart, because of Luka Doncik, not

(29:01):
because of Lebron James.

Speaker 13 (29:03):
Yeah, Doug, I mean Lebron James used to be the
ultimate recruiter. They called him with GM for a reason. Now,
Marcus Smart did make it clear that one of the
reasons why he wanted to play for the Lakers, was
playing a lot with Luca and Lebron. But no doubt,
Luca's been very vocal behind the scenes with telling certain
free agents, either directly or through their agents about their

(29:24):
interest level. And so not only has the front office
sent this clear message that it's about building for his
career long term, but Luca's being proactive in himself and
with Marcus Smart. You know, there's obviously questions about his
injury availability because he's missed I think fifty four games
the last two seasons, but he is what you could

(29:46):
want in a role player under a buyout contract, with
great defense. He's fecer famine with shooting, but he's a
great locker room guy. And you know, I'm not going
to be naive to think that he can transfer the
same level of account ability that he had for Jason
Tatum and Boston because he played together with them from
the beginning. But I think once he gets comfortable, he

(30:07):
won't be shy with calling out Luca, Lebron or anyone else.
But it is interesting their larger point that it's Luca
playing a bigger influence with everything.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Okay, so what else do the Lakers do right, like
they they've added some size, they added Marcus Smart. Are
they done?

Speaker 13 (30:26):
Yeah, Doug, I was wrong last week. I predicted that
this would probably be the roster. The reason that I
thought that is that they just have limited assets. I mean,
they don't have really any cap space, and you know,
the way to get Marcus Smart is they had to
waive some players. And so I don't think that they're
done now, but it's going to take a lot for
this to happen because they don't have roster slots available.

(30:49):
Though it's a matter of are they going to trade guys.
I don't think that they're going to, you know, be
beholden to someone like Ruy Hatchamora, even Austin Reeves. But
I think it has to be a game changing type
of move, and there's not a lot of potential game
changers out there. I don't think that Andrew Wigans is
someone that moves the needle from the Miami Heat. Same

(31:11):
thing with Jonathan Kamena. So, you know, because of their
recent actions, I should probably say they're not done, but
I can't think of likely candidates at this point that
they're going after.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Doug gotlibpshow on Fox Sports Rady. That's Mark Medina, who
joins us now on the Doug Gottlib Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Damian Lillard goes back to Portland. Does that
mean that we look at does Gianna stay put? Like
we've been waiting all summer. Nothing's happened, but we haven't

(31:43):
gotten the absolutely positively staying put from all parties. But
it does feel like that's the cautionary tale. What do
you think happens?

Speaker 13 (31:53):
Yeah, I think right now because he said that, Hey,
I'm probably gonna stay with the Bucks. I think that
that message and the fact that he's been in a
communication with the front office shows that he's comfortable enough
entering next season with the Bucks. But I think this
is all fluid. I thought at some point this offseason
they would trade the honest and maybe that changes, but

(32:16):
I don't think it'll change the broader picture here that
even with the Bucks being aggressive, gained someone like Miles Turner,
a great room protector, really took advantage of the fact
that the Pacers weren't aggressive enough to keep them. I
don't think it fundamentally changes. They're standing in the east
and so it just really just buys them time. So
with that I think that he'll get traded trade deadline,

(32:37):
but the Bucks have been clear that they don't want
to trade the honest he hasn't made a trade request,
so it's going to I think the contingent upon him
delivering that message, either directly or subtly. But I think
because of the fact that they made moves and it's
the off season, they'll wait. He'll wait until the actual
season starts and he gets the full reality dosage that yeah,

(33:01):
they're a good team in the East, but not great
and it's not enough to be a true contender.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Okay, Dallas is waiting on Kyrie Irving's return. Did they
stand Pat? There was obviously the story that Lebron considered
opting out for the Mavericks whatever, but he did Mavericks.

Speaker 13 (33:18):
Yeah, Lebron's little Bron's not joining the Mavericks. Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Uh do they do? They do they add anything?

Speaker 13 (33:26):
I think they're pretty I think they're pretty standing, uh
standing pat with what they have. I mean a Anthony Davis.
Kyrie Irving is not going to come back till probably
middle of next seasoncause of the DCL. But it's all
about Cooper Flag. You know, they have to they're likely
the second coming back. They're retained Danie Gaffer, they added
Dangel Russell, who has a lot of question marks on
defense for a team that says, you know, and Nico

(33:48):
Harrison's words, that defense won championships.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
But I think the.

Speaker 13 (33:51):
Bigger part is he's he's the bridge, stop gap measure
for playing point guard for whenever Kyrie Irving comes back.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (33:58):
You know, I think Klay Thompson and he's not going
to be ever the same player as he was in
twenty nineteen pre injuries, but I think that you know,
he can be a much better shooter than he was
in recent seasons. So I think that this is what
Dallas has and what this means. They're not I don't
think they're I don't think they are favorites in the West,
but they are a playoff team, and I think that

(34:20):
there is a feeling from with Dan you know, when
you talk to Mark Cuban at Summer League and other
guys in the Mavericks organization that as long as they
keep the fork down until Kyrie comes back and are
still in the playoff picture, they then could make a
run at it. But you know, there are a lot
of question marks, because even if Kyrie comes back, you know,

(34:41):
you have to assume it's the diminished version of himself
because the ACL injuries take time to recover. You don't know
about Anthony Davis, but I think internally they feel pretty
good about themselves, and it helps that you know they
are able to draft Cooper fly with that number one pick.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Okay, last thing. Voklahoma City is the presumptive favorite for
another NBA championship. Who's the most likely challenger to that status?

Speaker 13 (35:08):
I think most likely challengers the Rockets because they got
Kevin Durant. I know questions about his age, health, but
went on the floor. He's as efficient as can be,
as he has been his whole career. I think the
bigger thing is they still have most of their young quarterback.
When they made that trade with the Suns, they did
not get rid of alp and Thompson. They still have
Alfred sung Goon, they have a great defensive oriented coach

(35:30):
and Imaadoka. Now with the Clippers, I think that they've
made some good moves, but I think it's a stretch
to say that they're now a contender. I mean, I
think on paper, when you look at Kawhi Leonard, James Harden,
Bradley Beal now Chris Paul. They have a Viza zou bots,
they have cap flexibility now that they didn't retain Norman Powell,
and they have John Collins another great big and Brook

(35:53):
Lopez like they have a lot of good chemistry pieces.
I just have a lot of questions on can any
and all these guys stay healthy, So I don't put
them in number two. I'll put them at like a
wild card number three, number four, and then I would
say the Denver Nuggets, you know, getting Cam Johnson, great
two way player, much more consistent defensively and health wise

(36:14):
than Michael Porter Junior, and Jamal Murray's expected to be healthy.
Nikola Jokic, he'll be an MVP Canada as always. I
think they're back in the mix. So yeah, if I
had to rank it, I think Oklahoma City still will
win the title. They'll get out of the West. But
I would say Houston, the Clippers and the Nuggets to
have the most realistic shot that make it a challenge

(36:35):
for them, and.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
We'll see if the Spurs are ready to step up
to the plate to make a step into the playoffs.
Mark you the best, Love, having you on. Can't wait
to talk to you next week. Thanks so much for
being our guests.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
The Press, Iido.

Speaker 6 (37:50):
What do you got Doug Los Angeles Dodgers just three
and ten in their last thirteen games. Right now, they're
tied in one with the Minnesota Twins and the bomb
to the third inning at Dodger Stadium. And who cares
because the Dodgers run came courtesy of Showhy O'tani, who
just homered for a fifth consecutive game. He now leads

(38:10):
the National League with thirty seven home runs on the
season and trails only Cal Rawley, who has thirty nine
home runs for the lead in the major leagues.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Wow, that's amazing on how quickly he's kind of made
up that space right, Really really impressive.

Speaker 6 (38:26):
Yes, the sky is indeed the limit. We had another
sort of deep dive done by excellent journalist Don Vanetta
Junior and Caylin Koller on the recently resigned head of
the NFL Players Association, Lloyd Halle Junior. And the report

(38:47):
included the following anecdote and I quote how ordered the
Union facilities department in Washington, d C. To merge two
spaces in the parking garage to avoid door dings on
his Porsche Cayenne Turbo. He also asked workers to change
the number of the two spaces, spaces ten and eleven

(39:10):
to thirty two, as an homage to the jersey number
worn by oh J. Simpson unquote.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Really really.

Speaker 6 (39:23):
Really really really really really you know, the truth is
stranger than fiction, particularly with this Lloyd hal character.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Yeah, I mean, oh J so weird.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Like I actually kind of get the space thing, you know,
especially if they were if it was too tight and
it was like constantly an issue like hey, what are
we doing here?

Speaker 2 (39:49):
But yeah, like let's make it thirty two.

Speaker 6 (39:53):
Hm?

Speaker 2 (39:54):
What the space numbers before?

Speaker 6 (39:56):
They were previously ten and eleven?

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yeah, that's that's weird.

Speaker 6 (40:03):
I mean, is he from Buffalo? I don't think so.
I think he's from the Philadelphia area. I think I'd
have to look that up. But I mean, you know,
it's weird. It's not like there's a bunch of slatches
of the ward ten and eleven.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
Who No, I got it, But it's like who, yeah,
who thinks that's okay?

Speaker 13 (40:23):
Right?

Speaker 6 (40:24):
I mean, you know, fran Tarkenton, Phil Simms. I'm just saying,
all right, another story today. At another story today from
the world of football, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tongue of
I Loo. I'm making the following remarks describing how receiver
Tyreek Hill working to rebuild relationships and trust with his

(40:45):
teammates after critical comments he made at the last end
of last season. One, among other things, he said, I
don't want to play for the Dolphins anymore. Here was
two or earlier today.

Speaker 10 (40:53):
When you say something like that, you don't just come
back from that with a my bad, No, you got
you gotta work that relationship up. You got to build
everything up again. And it's still a work in progress,
not just for me, but for everybody. He's working on himself.
He's working on the things that he say. You know,
he says he wants to get better with That's the
first step to me, and so I commend him for
doing that.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
Yeah, whatever, I mean, Tyrek Hill, there's a guy who
is I think he has his own podcast and just
should not. You know, I think we can all agree
that Tyrek Hill really good at the football thing.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Rest of stuff seems to struggle.

Speaker 6 (41:26):
And that concludes as I prepare to contact our parking
department to change my parking space to night.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
The worst that is the worst I know working is
the worst.

Speaker 6 (41:38):
Is today was there just rude?

Speaker 1 (41:41):
Well those guys out there are just rot like, Hey,
you don't own the building.

Speaker 6 (41:47):
I'd be happy to submit your comments via the suggestion
box that's been installed.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
Go for it.

Speaker 6 (41:53):
That's the press, Get out there and pressed.

Speaker 8 (41:56):
That was the press.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
Shoe a hit another home run, but the Dodgers to
continue to struggle, especially with their bullpen blowing up. That's
why Jason Stewart takes it out. If he can't face
the heat, that's it. He thought we were having Danja
Jeremiah and DJ was going to give him the business.
And that's why I took it off because he's soft
like that. I just want everybody to make sure they
know that. Stug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio
