Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hanging out on a Memorial Day Chris purfet Is with us,
Jason Stewart, Steve de Sager, the gang is all here
on a Monday. Welcome in. Please, if you're traveling, be
safe and also take a moment to remember why we
have this three day weekend. Remember those that we lost
that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Lise, if you will just
(00:38):
take a moment to do that. We've got a game
four tonight in the Twin Cities on the ice as
well as the Panthers try to close out things with
the Carolina Hurricanes. So much happening at the end of
May and the unofficial start of summer today, Mons, is
that today the innosial, unofficial.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Unofficial start of summer.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Interesting? Yeah, you mentioned the NHL playoffs, which, yeah, I'm
not a big hockey gal, but when the playoffs kick in,
I tune in more and if you need any excitement,
just watch the NHL playoffs, because it doesn't matter if
it's a blout, You're probably going to see a couple
of fights.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
You're probably going to see.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Some tensions run really high, whether the score is one
to one or six to one. Like if you're looking
for excitement, watch a period of the NHL playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
They've been fun.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
And if you want to watch the Eastern Conference Finals,
tonight may be your final chance because it could be
all over very soon with the Florida Panthers at home
up three oh on Carolina. But stranger things have happened
on the ice. But we shall see tonight. For the
time being, it's time for love and hate. I'll look
(01:45):
back at our weekend of what we loved, what we hated.
From there, it is everybody chiming in with their loves,
getting ready, and I'm going to start right there, just myself.
I'm going to start this off. I'm gonna take the
baton and I choose me. I love that Edmonton went
(02:06):
up to one in their series because again they are
the lone hope of a Canadian team hoisting Lord Stanley's
Cup for the first time since the early nineties. Winnipeg
let us down. The Maple Leafs, they always let people down.
But the Edmonton Oilers could be could be on track
for a rematch of last year's Stanley Cup final. Let
(02:29):
us down, you say, yes, all of us who want
a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup, it is
it is not only it is not only about Canada.
It's about teams where it's ninety five degrees right now
winning a Stanley Cup.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
How many Florida teams in the last few years have
been to a conference final, right Florida answer all of them?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, Tampa Bay. I mean it's and and they've won Cups.
They've all one cups, both teams, the lightning of one,
a bunch of them, the Anaheim La. Yes, Dallas has
won a Cup since the last time the anybody in
Canada won a Stanley Cup. But the Oilers won yesterday
over the Dallas Stars. Took a two to one series
(03:17):
lead Game four in Edmonton tomorrow night to try to
take a commanding three to one series lead. But that's
what I love that Edmonton is keeping out home and
I actually think it would be a great rematch last
year's series win seven games. Connor McDavid's the best player
in hockey. To see him on that stage, let's do it. Yeah,
(03:39):
I love the Oilers.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
So you're loving the MVP pick in the NBA that
it's a Canadian. You're hoping that Steve Natsch will come.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
No, no, because there's no there. It's only with hockey
that you feel what we should be saying in late
May in the Stanley Cup playoffs are like Montreal beat Boston,
that's what we should be saying. Or original teams Edmonton
goes to Calgary like those things. We slat hockey Town
(04:08):
Toronto again, even if we said moose jaw ends up.
That's much better than Carolina, Dallas and Florida.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
And obligatory bring back the Hartford Whalers.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Sure, absolutely bring it back. I've been to a I've
been to a Florida Panthers game. By the way, they're
kind of playing tonight the heart wal you know, do
you know? Yeah, they kind of are. Do you know
that where the arena is where the Panthers have in Florida?
It's it's in Sunrise, Florida.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
Isn't it on the water? Is that the one?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
It's no that's that's where the heat play. This is
right across the freeway from the Everglades, like it's it's
right there. Yeah, so it's not. So that's why you
say South Florida because it just kind of encompasses it all.
But it's nowhere near Miami common.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
Thought of associated hockeyes.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, the exact opposite of ices. Across the freeway.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
They throw plastic rats out there. We're gonna need some
plastic gators before too long.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Coming up with something. They're pretty good. Florida's all right,
that's my love, manci what you love from the weekend?
Speaker 3 (05:13):
All right.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
So I just gotta remind myself how grateful I am
to have Netflix in my life. You know, back then
you couldn't just watch a movie that you were like, oh,
I've never seen that. So for the first time, I
watched Sikario on Friday Nights.
Speaker 7 (05:29):
So good.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
I never seen it.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
And so the boy it's not a series.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Suddenly that it's not a series. The movie that came
out in like twenty fifteen, yes, or something like that,
and there's more to it the second one. Yeah, so no,
I'm getting ready to watch it.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
But I had no idea and for a moment, I
was like, I can't believe this is a thing.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Now where it's like, oh, I haven't seen this movie.
Let me see where I can find it.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
And it just easily pops up for me to find
no problems, and I loved it. I can't wait to
watch I can't believe I've missed out on it. But
because there are so many movies and dream a season
in sports where there's a lot of games, So.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
We watched this late on Friday night. But I was
so into it. I was like, Wow, how have I
missed out on this?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
For the last ten years, nobody told me about it,
but I'm sure everybody told me about it ten years ago.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
I don't even know how to spell it. I don't
know what he's talking about right now. Centema fans.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Yeah, so Emily Blunt is in it, Benicio del Toro,
Josh Brolin, Jeffrey Donovan, a lot, a lot of a
lot of faces that I saw. And you know, it's
funny that you mentioned who's like, you don't know who
is in it. I can't think of this actor's name,
but he was the guy who created the boat Titanic
in the movie.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
You know, the like the one who.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Built the boat in Titanic in the movie, and I
can't get past that. So whenever I see him, I'm
like Titanic, Titanic, Like I cannot see him in any
other role.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
Oh, Victor Garber, sure, yes, but I.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Can't see him in any other role Like I see him,
I'm like Titanic. That's it.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Oh, I know that guy. I saw Titanic, yes, but
so he's in this movie and I couldn't.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I was like Titanic.
Speaker 7 (07:02):
By the way, uh Cecario. That's how you pronounced that.
And that's from the mind of Taylor Sheridan, the creator
of Yellowstone and everything you watch on Paramount right now.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Oh really?
Speaker 6 (07:14):
And the director is Denny Villanaire, who did Dune and
Anaya and Canadian.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Damn.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
I'll get back to Canada.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
When it comes to hockey. That's all it is.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
So yeah, I can't wait for Sacario does.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
I am warning you now. It's not Villainer involved in it.
And it's a very different movie.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
From what I've heard.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
What you've heard, well, but you can't speak on it.
Speaker 6 (07:35):
I know enough about how the sequels work.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Oh you haven't seen it, don't give me it don't
tell me what I what to expect me.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
You haven't seen it, you.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, yeah, you can't comment on something you haven't seen.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah, you seen it, you feel that way, But don't tell.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Me that how many there's how many? There's three of
these movies?
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Let me see, there's two.
Speaker 6 (07:56):
They're working on a third one.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
I just I honestly, it's like Google in Go Go
Cecario and then it said Zacario three. So I don't
know if that was out yet or that is something
that's coming up now. Not yet, all right, Jason Sewart,
what did you love for the weekend?
Speaker 7 (08:09):
I loved not watching the Indy five hundred. Oh, come
on now, it was on Fox. This is a big
deal for people in Indianapolis and people from Europe, this
kind of whatever you call those kind of cars and racing. Oh,
We've never been into the Indy five hundred, and I've
never been into watching cars go around to circle, especially
(08:32):
those kinds of cars. I did like that Tom Brady
was booed and I was hoping. I just read the
headline tom Brady booed yeah, and I'm like, oh, good,
So everyone's letting them know what they think. Of as
broadcasting because I'm not a fan either. But no. Then
I thought, Okay, it's like a Peyton Manning Colts thing. Okay,
but that was a little disappointing, but I love not
(08:53):
watching it.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Then you miss Scott McLaughlin crashing before the started, just
on the yes.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
And he's out.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Yeah, but Kyle wasn't. Then crashed in the warm up.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
That's fair.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Scott McLaughlin crashed before there was zero of two hundred laps.
Is he good and bashed because he's going back the tires?
Speaker 5 (09:15):
He said. It was literally like one of the worst
moments of his entire life. That was Sports Live.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
That feels like the dream that you didn't show up
the class all year long and the final is there.
But that's the reality of I practiced all year long
for this. I'm in the car, we're about to start,
and I've now wrecked our chances.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
And it happened and I can't undo it.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Correct. It was atrocious, all right, Steve? Would you love
from the weekend?
Speaker 5 (09:39):
Everything I thought of that I love this weekend had
to do with the general point of, wow, this is
great for baseball. So, like you mentioned, a complete game
with scooball or Otani is throwing VP. I don't care
what team he's on. It's great for baseball if Otani
is pitching also and hitting like he is, or that
the Cubs are good. They scored at least ten in
a game, yet again, a Cubs franchise has not done
(10:00):
that this often, this early in the season since the
eighteen hundreds. And we had a young star on display
again yesterday. O'Neil Cruz of the Pirates hit a home
run measured at nearly one hundred and twenty three miles
an hour off the bat.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
We're going to get to that later on today.
Speaker 5 (10:14):
The hardest hit ball in the ten years they've been
doing using stat Cast for.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
This loving, loving, loving Major League good. There's a lot
of good going on.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
We do, But the host of the show, Doug Gottlieb,
is very much braggadocious about his Angels. I think they
lost yesterday, but they had won what seven or eight in.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
A row and they lost Saturday?
Speaker 7 (10:34):
Is that good for baseball? That the Angels are good?
Or do any won't care?
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Winning without trout makes no the waves the Filtre.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
The Phillies run a nine game winning streak and four
of those happened in Colorado. Two of those happened in Sacramento,
So there's also like.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Who would you be?
Speaker 5 (10:51):
Yeah right, it still gets him ahead of the Mets
in the standing.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
It does by two games as we speak, Chris Prophett,
what'd you love from this week? Right?
Speaker 6 (10:59):
Well, I think we've covered a few bases on Schoobol,
so I'm going to turn to soccer and what I
was happy to talk about on Saturday. It is kind
of cheating a little bit since it was on Friday,
but I mean you, me and Dan, you and I
were in here watching the final day of the Premier
League season and thoughts out to what just happened in
Liverpool and their parade. But Friday the entire year. I
(11:25):
love Italian soccer, and it had been an entire year
watching inter Milan and Napoli, who had been like back
and forth and you usually don't get this, you don't
get this year. Not well, I'm just not well. They
got relegated, not even the same language.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
That was funny. You can love alone.
Speaker 6 (11:48):
Anyway, Napoli, like, look, there was a name in the nineties, Maradonna,
but like they they and inter Milan had been going
back and forth, and like they didn't play each other
in the final day, but like Milan had to get more,
like more points than Napoli. Napoly ends up clinching their
second title in three years, their fourth all time. Uh.
The scenes there, and I had to feel bad because
(12:11):
they kept tuning in to this one guy there trying
to engrave the name on the title. They had brought
the uh, the trophy to the stadium, but they hadn't
finished the engraving, And every time I'd look over on CBS,
it just be this guy with the with the engraving drill,
just like working, working like hell, working like hell. Meanwhile outside,
there's flares everywhere in in Naples because.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
It's tradition to put the name of the team on
the trophy as it comes out.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
Yeah, I mean, and it was kind of already there,
but they had to like fill it in with some
sort of blue or something. I know nothing about.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Jug as well, And so when John van Develt blew
his three shot lead, there were some changes that needed
to be made during the whole playoff.
Speaker 6 (12:56):
Yeah, and again because it's the final day, they've got
that they got to wait and figure out is it
gonna be inter Is it going to be Napoly? So
they kept cutting back to the guy. But good job
on him and good job on Napoli.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
All right, there it is our loves for the weekend.
There's the other side of this. I don't believe this,
but this is how Doug always introduces this segment. Our
resident hater, Jason Stewart is up first.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
By the way, Fox just announced they got over seven
million viewers for Indy yesterday. Wow, largest audience Indy's had
in almost twenty years, minus one, I should say.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
So, did Steve just interrupt my hate with information about
the Indy.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Five hundred supporting company? Is that your hate?
Speaker 7 (13:46):
I am not lacking what's going on with the Dodgers,
especially this weekend, and it really has nothing to do
with the pitching. It has to do with our third basement.
And yes, that's it's you. Max Munsey, he admitted after
the game yesterday he's not good at defense. Well, Max,
if you're not good at defense and you're hitting like
one seventy, exactly what are you doing on the team.
(14:08):
We gotten rid of a couple really popular players over
the last couple of weeks, and I know it's caused
a stir on wine, and Max Mountsey still has a job.
There's a guy in Boston right now who really hates
not playing third base. Maybe we trade for him. But
Max Munsey is kind of drawing the attention of my
ire of all the things to complain about with the
(14:28):
Dodgers right now, and he's on my s list. I
hate Max Munsey at this current moment.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
How are you with your love of Tommy Edmund? I
know he was kind of dinged up for a while.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
I love tom Yeah, Tommy's great when he's.
Speaker 7 (14:40):
Healthy, he's great. I like watching that guy, all.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Right, manci would you love from the weekend?
Speaker 4 (14:44):
So a little piggyback on Jason, but it's not about
the Dodgers and the third baseman. I get really annoyed
when there's a game on like Apple TV, and that's
what was on Friday night, and that game went into
extra innings, and I feel like, once it goes in
to extra innians, I should be able to watch the
game on the Dodgers network, like run it on both
(15:05):
once against the extra Indians. Give me the option to
watch this please. It was so annoying that I could
not tune in to watch that Dodger game, and it
was a great and it was and all I could
do was like refresh what happened?
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Refresh. Tell me.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
I was so annoyed that unless I have Apple TV,
which yes, I could buy it, but guys, I'm tired
of buying all these you know streamings.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
You're not buying Roku for the Sunday morning baseball game,
So let me tell you.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I'm not doing absolutely no Roku.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
It was such a good game. It's the kind of
thing they would repeat in the off season that they
don't have live games to show. But I will add
when the Yankees are at Dodger Stadium Friday, guess who's
carrying Friday Night's game? Oh no, yet again Apple TV.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
And then they always mike them up. They're the worst
ones too. Let's make up the shortstop go they're playing?
Can you make up somebody in the dughouse? Can you
make up somebody who's not literally digging a ball? They're
the worst. Thanks Steve.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
The Gotlib Show is always famous for talking about miked
up in the NBA.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
Let's go, gotta rebound, you gotta rebound, Let's go.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Let's go. That's an insight all right, we have a
good one. Yeah, let's have a good ones. Have a
good one, all right, have a good one. You can
just go to the game on Friday, can't you so
missing it on TV?
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (16:21):
I will be at the game Friday, all.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Right, Steve Desager, what did you hate from the weekend?
Speaker 5 (16:26):
Well, hate is a strong word. But as entertaining as
the Rocky season has been an undeniably, this car wreck
of a season is very entertaining. Nice the fact that
they've literally not won a series yet, I mean, just
be bad, but they're just astoundingly bad to this point
of the season. They are zero to seventeen in series,
(16:46):
and apparently they have the worst major League record at
this point of a season since nineteen oh one. So
that part's a little extreme for me. If this keeps going,
I don't see how that's.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Good for anyone who knows the Harrisburg Mudcats I think
in nineteen oh one. I don't know. I'm just making
up old team names that would sound as.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
Such somebody in medicine had perhaps, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Oh, baseball didn't go to Canada until a long time after, Steve.
Only hockey are we chairing for Canada? Nothing else? Chris Purfett,
what'd you hate?
Speaker 6 (17:15):
I don't know if I hate the people pouring milk
on themselves at baseball stadiums. That was very odd to do,
so apparently yeah, yeah, well, I mean, yeah, someone comes
out in an Indy five hundred shirt. But first off,
where do you even buy milk? And Fenway? I'm not
even sure how you do that exactly. No, But I'm
saving my hate for the big Chealoupa, Aaron Rodgers, because stop, stop.
(17:37):
There's a movie that my dad loves that when I
watched with my dad as a kid called Mars Attacks.
I know Dan hasn't seen it. Jack Nicholson, Tim Burton.
Jack Nicholson plays the president every time. Now we have
to listen to Aaron Rodgers come out here and play
footsie around how he might play with the Vikings or
might play He has this thing where he's talking with
(17:57):
the little girl and where was his Austin And he's, uh, Audio,
I might yeah, I'll have to find it. But like
he's like, oh, I might you know, be we might
there might be a team that's playing the Bears. I
just imagine in my me is Jack Nicholson for that
movie and there's a line of Jackal's going shot up,
shot up, shot up, shut up, shut up, shut up.
(18:20):
This serves nobody. Nobody is getting enriched by this. Nobody
is having except for us where we get to talk
about Aaron Rodgers. But nobody's lives is getting bettered by
this entire thing. Let me tell you what Rogers is
going to do. He is not playing at his levelay more.
What's going to happen is he's going to waste our
time for another month, finally pick a team, tear something
(18:42):
two games into the season, and then spend the rest
of the year. The twenty five calendar year going on,
going on, what's the show? Pat McAfee talking about how
he thinks, I don't know the women on the view
are actually reptile aliens. Why are we doing this?
Speaker 3 (18:59):
All right?
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Who is this serving?
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Alright? There it is Chris Purfett hates Aaron Rodgers, summering
to talk. We're gonna get to Aaron Rodgers in a
little bit here on Fox Sports Radio, in just a
little bit. I hated that I mentioned the wrong show
earlier to day here on Fox Sports Radio, and I'm
pretty sure I picked both teams in the shows that
(19:22):
I did this weekend. I think I picked the Knicks
one day and then I picked the Pacers the other
or vice versa. You're bound to win, but guess what
you're bound to lose.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Yeah, but I think that's more of a that series
like I think you genuinely felt one way one day
and a genuinely felt the other way the other day.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
It's this I didn't have a true sense of a feel.
But I also just feel that my suggestion on a
pick is completely meaningless and pointless. That's the whole thing.
No one is going to say, you know, I heard
Dan like the name might on Blue Sky. They might
someone yelled at me for being on Blue I'm just
trying to broaden my social media horizons, that's all. I
(20:06):
just put a TikTok video up and I did this
on Friday, So it's kind of like that of the
worst shot that I ever saw on televised on TV.
It was from the Siege Senior PGA, And it's more
of because golf is always recorded, so there's a reason
that they're showing the shot. People point out like, oh,
I wonder if the SHOT's going to go in, If
the guy's ten shots back and we haven't heard from
(20:26):
them all weekend, and they're going to show the shot, Yeah,
because they want you to see the shot. But there
was a reason that someone showed this shot of a
guy that wasn't in contention, and I think somebody had
a bone to pick. I put it up on TikTok.
It got a little run on TikTok as well. That's
all we're trying to do with these social media platforms.
Speaker 5 (20:43):
I support you on Blue Sky Broaden your horizons. It's
also big in kam Loops and.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
He's not getting away from the Canadian thing. It's only hockey, Steve,
It's only hot fans. Broaden your horizon absolutely. How great
would it be? Like the cop is in a win
a bag and were We will not have that moment
this year, but if it goes back to Edmonton, what
a scene it will be.
Speaker 8 (21:04):

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Game four Tonight, it's the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox
Sports Radio Western Conference Finals, Timberwolves and Thunder. She's Monte Belago,
so I'm dan byer. They tip it off in Minneapolis.
Steve Desagro will be with us in just a matter
of minutes to give us an update of what's happening
on this Memorial Day. A national champion in lacrosse, Cornell
wins today. Sorry Steve if I took that from your update,
(21:39):
but it's one of the traditions that I have always
have gone by when it comes to the holidays. A
Memorial Day, fourth of July and Labor Day or of
July hot dog geating contest, Labor Day opening at college
football at college Football weekend, but Memorial Day is the
national championship match for lacrosse. Today, Cornell the winner against Maryland.
(22:03):
That's again the unofficial start of summer. I like that
leading into tonight's Game four between the Thunder and Timberwolves.
I am higher on the Timberwolves than Rick Buker was
when he joined us last hour. And I know, again
it's a seven game series, and I'm not saying that
I take everything from their Game three victory where they
won by forty two, But Manzie, I feel like we
(22:27):
were overvaluing Oklahoma City a little bit because of their
wins at home in them being the number one seed.
The games were competitive for a while till Oklahoma City
ends up pulling away at the end. That happens in
a home court situation. But I like Minnesota tonight to
make this a best of three series. I think the
(22:48):
Timberwolves get it done, not by forty two points, but
I think they're good enough to even the series tonight.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
So I think you're right on some of it. And
I also understood what Rick Buker was saying. I do
think we overvalued OKAC when it came to the regular season,
but I think we did that with every team. The
regular season is not painting the proper picture. The thunder
were not really tested in games, and they probably the
games that were losing, probably benched everyone and didn't try
(23:15):
to win. So we don't really know what they are
when it comes to a close contest. But something we
do know about OKAC is that they will guard you
the minute you get off the bus, that is for sure,
and they will guard you for forty eight minutes.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
They will be breathing on your neck the entire time,
whether they're inbounding the ball or not.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
You know what I'm saying, like they're in your pocket
with Minnesota, they are inconsistent.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
That is accurate.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
I agree with Rick Buker's assessment of I don't know
what Anthony Edwards is gonna come out and do. I
know what he's capable of doing, but I know he
does not do it for forty eight minutes. I know
that's not what they're used to doing during the regular season.
And I do think they get gassed because of their
short depth that they use compared to Okac's depth. And
(24:01):
I could not really gauge Game three, like what did
game three mean? I don't know because it was a
blowout win from wire to wire. Minnesota was not tested
in that game. And after the game, Okay, see, the
guys were just like, eh, whatever, we got blown out,
like they were not affected by it.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
It was not a gut punch of a loss.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
No, And it's one you just throw away.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
And you move on to the next and you move
on to the next one.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
But I do think that we feel that Oklahoma City
has gotten the benefit of the whistle in the first
two games of the series, and specifically shay Gil just Alexander,
and that doesn't happen on the road. That doesn't happen
on the road in the playoffs, and it didn't happen
in Game three. I don't think it's gonna happen in
Game four. And then all of a sudden you got
a two to two series, and then the pressure is
entirely on Oklahoma City's shoulders in Game five. Curious to
(24:47):
see how it plays out there, Not that the Thunder
can't handle it. I just felt that when Oklahoma City
went up to oh not only were people crowding them
to go to the NBA Finals and winning the series,
they were saying they're going to beat the Pacers and
Knicks on whoever they would beat the the NBA Finals.
And that's fine for from looking at the regular season
and seeing where they are, but it's not like this
team is without fault, and Minnesota took advantage of that
(25:09):
in Game three.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Absolutely, there was no reason to think after they went
up two zero to bring out the brooms.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
I did not think that.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Especially because you said it yourself. All they did was
protect home court, which is what they're supposed to do.
When you look at the East and you see that
the Pacers took games one and two, then I can
see why people thought maybe that series was going to
be over quickly. Not in this one, and especially on
the night where shake Gil Jess Alexander gets his MVP trophy.
You can only assume an automatic win that he was
going to go and perform. That's an automatic win for me.
(25:36):
But I really like, I don't know how to gauge
what Minnesota is capable of after that blowout win, because
I don't think Oklahoma. I think they they the game
was over in the second quarter.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
It was over in the second quarter.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
It was it really was. It was a thirty point
lead at halftime, yeah.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
But they had scored seventy and it was just at
that point you were like, I don't know what Okac
is going to do.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
And I feel like they kind of also took their
foot off the gas and we're like, all right, like
if we make a comeback, we make a comeback.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
But at the end of the game, Jalen Williams, I
think was like I've lost by by sixty before, Like
they were unaffected by the loss.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
They should be a little affected by it. But to
your point of their mindset entering this game, it may not.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
Have an effect.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
It may not have an effect.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
What I think is interesting. And I may be the
only one you can tell me if I'm the only
one here. I have a sense that people think that
twenty point leads are a big deal, like in the NBA,
because and we've seen these comebacks from the Knicks and
the Celtics, and so I was in Saturday Night with
Olden Polonies when the Timberwolves were up by thirty, and like,
(26:41):
the difference between ten and twenty is not a big deal,
but the difference between twenty and thirty are miles. Like
the thunder even came out and had a little bit
of a run at the beginning of the second half,
and it was to trim it to twenty two or something,
and then you think we're still down twenty two points. Yeah,
but the Knicks, and even looking at any other comebacks,
but the Knicks last night went on the run at
(27:03):
the end of the first half and then got it
into the ballpark of twelve. And when you're within twelve,
you're completely into the ball game. And it's it just sounds.
I just don't know, because I think people wondered, Hey,
we've seen all these comebacks, could Oklahoma City come back? No,
not from thirty thirty's a thirty is a different animal.
(27:25):
Thirty is an enormous you know, in an Orca whale,
compared to the bluegill. That is the twenty point lead
in the NBA that you see you can whittle down.
And so I at least give Minnesota credit for that.
But there were people who are still thinking, and I
think because they believe in Oklahoma City so much. And
I'm not sure on how much people actually watched Oklahoma
(27:45):
City throughout the year, if they're just looking at the
record or they're looking at what the Timberwolves did in
the playoffs, and that's beed a Lakers team that doesn't
play defense and a Warriors team that didn't have Steph Curry,
so that didn't believe. But for whatever reason, Oklahoma City
was crowned after Game two by many people, and I
just refuse to believe that Minnesota's out of it.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
I think they were crowns really primarily because of how
they got through the Grizzlies in Round one and their
regular season performance. I think people are putting so much
weight on that that they think it's going to be
easy for them the rest of the way. And I
feel like part of it is people just don't trust
the Timberwolves.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
I agree with that latter part, the point that I
thought you were going to say that you didn't say.
I think people give them more credit for the Nuggets
series win because the Nuggets won a title a couple
of years ago, and you say, hey, look you dispatched
the champion from two years ago in Nikola Jokic, And
I feel that, and you know me, I just don't
buy it into Denver at all.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
I know.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
But and it's funny because I don't think that.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
I actually think that was not a good sign for
the Thunder to go to seven games with an injured
Michael Porter Junior, with a guy with a bad hamstring
in Game seven still playing. You took a very short
depth team to seven games, and Nikola Jokic did not
have his best performance in that series. So I actually
(29:05):
think the opposite. I don't think that showcase the Thunder
in the best way.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
We're more on the same page than I realized. She's
Monty Blago. So I'm dan Byer Steve de Segers at
the news desk going through his pages of notes from
what's happening on this Memorial Day? What's going on?
Speaker 5 (29:19):
Steve, I looked up the lacrosse champions over the years
you mentioned Cornell won it all. Today men's lacrosse national
title is thirteen to ten over Maryland to the final.
Turns out, Cornell lost to Maryland for the title just
three years ago, and Cornell lost the championship game in
overtime two thousand and nine to Syracuse and lost the
title game back to back years eighty seven and eighty eight,
(29:43):
and again lost the national title game in seventy eight.
So Cornell hadn't won the national title in this sport
since the nineteen seventies when they won se.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Andy Murnard is loving this dye Verna Cornell the Office.
Speaker 8 (29:57):

here there and everywhere. People going back home, school, getting out, graduations, happening,
the whole deal. It is that time of year. Find
Monty on ex at Manti Bolanos. You can find me
(30:29):
at dan Byer on Fox. It is a Monday. We
already did our love and hate. You can check the
podcast for that. Chris Purfett hated Aaron Rodgers speaking again.
And here was a little bit of Aaron Rodgers speaking
over the weekend when he was asked at an event, oh,
just about his possible playing future and a possible team
(30:52):
that could be involved.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Will Aaron Rodgers ever go to the Bears?
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Can it secured?
Speaker 6 (31:00):
Get her on here, he's a security, He's.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Take it easy on her.
Speaker 8 (31:03):
That's no.
Speaker 7 (31:04):
But I believe there's a team that might play in
Chicago this year, a road trip. I don't know, be sure,
got to check it out.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Are you speaking in code?
Speaker 7 (31:14):
I love Chicago though, way more than they love me.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
It's been a great relationship all one way. Aaron Rodgers,
Now he was whatever the planted question. I don't know
if he was planted. I'm not even sure if that
was the case. But on November twenty third, the Pittsburgh
Steelers do go to Chicago to face the Bears. And
that's why we think that he was alluding to Manci.
I don't mind that is you know that back and
(31:41):
forth whatever bringing it up. It's fine. I do have
a problem. I know Chris Purphett has a problem with
Aaron Rodgers speaking and saying what he says. My problem
with Rogers is this is, if you're going to be
a Steeler, just be a Steeler. Just sign get it
done with, be there with them. The veteran and stuff
doesn't work for me right now because you're not accustomed
(32:04):
to what Pittsburgh does. We've heard there have been throwing sessions.
I understand all that. But if you're playing in your
final year of your career, which could possibly be who knows.
But if you know you had seven months left, why
not put everything that you have into it? Why not
be there. You don't have to you don't have to
nurture Will Howard the draft pick. None of that is
(32:25):
being asked. Just be on the same page for a
team that, for some reason is waiting around and waiting patiently.
I may ask for you, it just doesn't. I just
wish there would have there would be more of a
commitment for Rogers Part two, the Pittsburgh Steelers instead of
I'm just gonna hang out and then we'll figure this
out as training camp nears.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Yeah, I've just come to accept that Aaron Rodgers is
Aaron Rodgers. So we're at the point where Ernie's not
annoying me anymore. I am just more surprised that the
Steelers are willing to go through this because him signing
with you doesn't give you a jump now where you're
gonna win the division. You're not winning the division with
(33:06):
or without him. So what are we waiting for? We're
not You're not waiting for Tom Brady. You're not waiting
for Patrick Mahomes. You are waiting for somebody that's just
gonna get you through the season and maybe stay above
five hundred, which is well, probably what Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Wants, and if that's the case, that's the case. But
I'm with you. I look at the Steelers as a
proud organization that won super Bowls, and why you're settling
for this mediocrity and also why you're settling on I
guess being dictated by a future Hall of Fame quarterback,
But you're the Pittsburgh Steelers. But what bothers me even
(33:42):
more about the Pittsburgh Steelers in them waiting around for
Aaron Rodgers is There was a report from Jeremy Fowler
from ESPN that says the Steelers actually have a plan
B if Rogers doesn't want to play. So think about that.
So they're waiting around and they're a pair of saying
if Rogers doesn't sign with us, which would be crazy,
(34:03):
he would completely screw you over. If he does not
sign with you, their plan B is to go get
Kirk Cousins from the Atlanta Falcons. As the Falcons don't
want Kirk Cousins. That's not a plan B. That's just
a bad idea that that's not a plan for your team.
It's not a plan for the future. I look at
the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you want to make a plan,
(34:25):
have Mason Rudolph for Will Howard or Skyler Thompson, whoever
you want to start this year. Start this year, be
bad and when the quarterback draft next year is more
fruitful draft. When you're in the top ten and you
only win five games, that is more of a plan
than waiting for veteran Kirk Cousin who turned the ball
over so Cousins could not keep the ball in the
(34:47):
Falcons offense all last season still coming back from that
Achilles injury, which even adds to the problem Mancie. Having
Kirk Cousins as a backup plan is no plan at
all for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
They meant to tell you he was Plan F, Like
he's not planned B. It's yes, it's Plan F as
in Falcons, Like he I.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Had a different word. I thought I did.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
I just wasn't gonna say it, but like, yeah, that's
that was not Plan B. In fact, I don't even
think Aaron Rodgers was Plan A. Let's say Aaron Rodgers
was Planned C, and now here at we're at Plan
F hoping for the best.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
But it makes I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Kirk Couzins is also not going to help you win
the division, and I just it seems weird because them
trading for DK Metcalf and extending him and then getting
rid of George Pickens was like, what plan did you have?
None of this makes sense because we already know that
the Steelers are known for what their defense. That's what
they are known for, not necessarily their offense. And that's
(35:44):
why I feel like Aaron Rodgers is like, do.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
I really want to go behind that O line. Do
I want to go in there. I'm banged up.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
If he doesn't sign with them, that would be a
crappy move. But I would only blame the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Again, Aaron Rodgers is Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Would you be that surprised based on how all of
this has been handled.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Well and it's the entire offseason, I wouldn't be. I
wouldn't be shocked. I'd be surprised. I wouldn't be shocked.
But this is what's also interesting about the Steelers, and again,
why there seems to be no plan at all in
Pittsburgh is one of the theories that we heard was,
guess what not both of the quarterbacks from last year
are going to be back. One of them may be back. Well,
(36:23):
Justin Field signed with the Jets and Russell Wilson was there.
Russell Wilson had ample opportunity to re sign with the.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Steelers and he wanted to, he could imply that.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
But he didn't. He ended up signing with the Jets Giants.
And you know why, It's because Pittsburgh didn't want him back.
So the theory of we don't want both of them back,
you want one of them back did you just want
Justin Fields back? Was that the story? Because that actually
then does sound like a plan. Saying we may want
one of them back again doesn't sound like a plan
for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have no idea what this
(36:54):
organization is doing. And if Aaron Rodgers chooses not to
play with him, it's gotta be a bad move by Rogers,
just on one part. But I would fully blame the
Pittsburgh Steelers. And then the thing that Kirk Cousins is
your backup plan. Just roll with Mason Rudolph.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
Yeah, just plan.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
That's why he's there. Yeah, he took you to the
playoffs a few years ago, a one storied franchise. Gosh,
and I don't even like the Steelers. Gonna make it
me mad. She's Moncey Milagio. So I'm Dan Byer's the
Doug Gottlieb Show. We're gonna stick around for Cavino and
Rich next year on Fox Sports Radio
