Monzi just told you that Duke is up big at
the half against Mount Saint Mary's. The question is should
Cooper Flagg play in the second half? That and so
much more. As we are broadcasting live from the tierraq

talk coming up in twenty minutes, including that Cooper flag discussion.
We will give you a score update as that Colorado
State Memphis game winds down and I feel there is
another the the twelve seeds this year. You see San

(01:02):
Diego McNeice, Colorado State Liberty's the twelve seed in the
East region. They've got Oregon. Later on today. But the
twelve seeds of that five to twelve matchup are always
ripe for the pickings. But like, this is a bracket
where you maybe could have picked three twelve seeds and
felt very comfortable with it.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Well, Colorado State was actually a favorite coming into this game.
Memphis point guard got hurt. I know we're gonna talk
about some of these games going on, so I don't
want to overset you know, we don't have to talk
about it here.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
But yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Mean, and then McNeese. You know, listen, Will Wade's an
accomplished coach all that. So what was the third one?
Oregon in Liberty was the third winner. Well, you see
San Diego. I think it was also a great call. Yeah,
I think Michigan ended up as a two and a
half point favorite. I mean, if you just look at
the seed line, a five seed is what about the
sixteenth to twentieth best team, let alone that Michigan was
probably a little bit better by the end of the

(01:56):
Big Ten tournament. Obviously, a twelve seed is in theory
one of what the bottom twenty or so teams in
the tournament, And Michigan was a two and a half
point favorite. I think that kind of tells you a
little bit of what you need.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
What I think happened is people probably picked three twelve
seeds and then saw Oregon and Liberty, and no disrespect
to Liberty, who could knock off the ducks. But they're like, well,
I have to pick at least one five seeds. So
they're ending up picking Oregon today over Liberty. But we
shall see. That's where we are in the five to
twelve matchup. I also think this the committee focuses so
much on the top and then the bottom of the

(02:28):
bracket that sometimes it's difficult to tell on who is what.
So when you're seeing the five seeds, I saw a
lot of data saying the eights were actually better than
the fives this year. It's tough sometimes to set up
the bracket because I don't think as much attention is
put on those things.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
It's a great point, and then you brought up a
couple good points on our selection shows. First of all,
there was a ton of SEC teams that were kind
of grouped, not only in that one to two seed line,
but really like that six to eight, six to nine
seed line, where it's like Vandy, Oklahoma, Zury Mississippi State,
Ole miss It's just like, how do you bunch of

(03:04):
them all? And they can't all be on the set,
and so that makes it complicated. I think just the
other thing too, And I don't remember if we talked
about this on Sunday, but the committee now has so
many metrics, Like it's good to be informed, but at
some points you can have too much data where it's like,
you know, like listen, I don't think North Carolina should

(03:25):
have been in, but if you look at the right metrics,
you could absolutely argue that they should have been in
over West Virginia, over whoever. And so I just bring
it up because I do think in some cases the
committee might literally have too much information and it could
be to their own detriment.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
You could talk yourself into anything with a bracket as well,
and I think that tells you of when you're trying
to fill out your brackets and looking for your upsets,
that you can find any data point that will make
you want to lean one way or the other. And yeah,
that's what we get. That's what you get when you
have sometimes too much information. I do want to let
you know, Aaron, that you're listening to us now. But

(03:59):
did you know you can also see us Did you
know that I did? Yes, Yeah, I see it right now.

would be a whole gauntlet of Aaron Rodgers videos. And

(04:22):
Aaron Rodgers is in the news today because the free
eging quarterback is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers a conversation with
Mike Tomlin conversation with gm Omar Khan. But Gary Dolak
of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that the meeting took
place with Rogers being at the facility, then added a
note to it that a contract was not imminent following

(04:47):
the meeting, but that Aaron Rodgers wasn't Pittsburgh and he
is now. As you heard, Bonci Saysence left that meeting.
I don't want to say it's interesting timing, but obviously
Aaron Rodgers got word from the Minnesota Vikings and so
falls in line that he was waiting on what the
Vikings were hearing before moving forward, and now he's moved
forward to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Yeah, I'm still you know, listen, I know at some
point it becomes exhausting just talking about the same guy.
And we obviously heard the Cam Hayward comments about if
you want to be a Steeler it's time like put
up or shut up basically, But I also do think
I think there are actually, like, depending on if and
where he ends up, I actually do think there are
a lot of interesting conversations to be had if it's

(05:30):
in Pittsburgh defensive culture.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
But they always win games.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Now they have DK Metcalf George, but you know, there's
a lot of variables there. It does feel like the
giant stuff is fading. You reference the fact that Devido
is the only quarterback on that roster, and so yeah,
I think once we actually get an answer to if
he's playing where he's been before we get to some
of the other stuff. Let me just ask you a question,
because I brought this up on my Saturday show. Do

(05:54):
you think Aaron Rodgers should just basically just sit out
and wait for somebody to get hurt. Like I don't
mean to be crass, but a starting quarterback, let alone
many of them will get injured. Do you think there's
like he should just sit there and wait and then
maybe a better option would actually present itself in week three,

(06:14):
Week four, week five.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
I do think that there has to be some ramp
up to it. And I think that Aaron Rodgers, if
he's not playing football, is going to go and do
Aaron Rodgers things. So instead of we laugh at Joe
Flacco just sitting on the couch not doing anything, I
don't think Joe Flacco is at least keeping himself in
shape and was in the continental United States. But it's

(06:38):
the truth. No, it is the truth. Like, if you
need a quarterback and Aaron Rodgers has been, you know,
halfway around the world on a three week excursion, how
ready is he to wait for another job? That would
be the only thing that I would I would say
that would be against that line of thinking, because I
do think that it could fit. I just think if
Rogers knows he's not going to play football, then he's

(06:58):
going to go and do something else. He doesn't seem
like someone is just gonna sit by idally and not
do anything, which has made this situation kind of unique,
and that they were waiting on word from the Vikings,
all of which is completely panned out. It's completely true.
The Athletic did a piece in talking about the Vikings
thinking of things and how it came to be that

(07:19):
they decided to not pursue Aaron Rodgers because they like
JJ McCarthy. Yet in the same piece they also say
Daniel Jones they tried to pitch him coming to Minnesota
to compete for the starting job. Well, that does then
say that you aren't as sold on JJ McCarthy, And
I think that's been the biggest takeaway that if it
took this long house old are you on McCarthy. But

(07:39):
what I find interesting in this Rogers visit with the
Steelers is if the Steelers did want a quarterback, they
could bring Russell Wilson back. Yeah, but it's been he is.
It's why I think it's over for Russell Wilson in
that one of the quarterbacks has now gone with the
New York Jets. That's justin fields, but Russell Wilson is

(08:02):
still available. I don't think that things went as swimming
le how they ended at the end of the year.
I know was not good, but there seemed to be
some disconnect with Russell Wilson and maybe the offense. But
if the Pittsburgh Steelers wanted to wrap up their quarterback situation,
they could just say, hey, Russ, we're going to run
it back, and I think that he would say yes
and be back and all would be good. But instead,

(08:24):
a franchise that is rooted in NFL history is just
sitting there playing the waiting game and has no problems
being the second choice of one Aaron Rodgers, and I
think that says a lot about Russell Wilson.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Well, I was gonna say, I know this is more
of an Aaron Rodgers segment than Russell Wilson segment, But
I find that last point that you made about Aaron
Rodgers fascinating or Russell Wilson fascinating because of the idea
that you know, it's not only that they weren't terrible
when he played, but remember this was Mike Tomlin's hand
picked guy and beyond that, And I know we talked

(08:57):
about this as we filled in over the last couple
of days, but like you know, Tomlin, they're winning with
justin fields.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
They go to Russell Wilson.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Tomlin has the famous quote of yeah, that's why I'm
very well compensated. And it's like it just felt like
that relationship was there and that maybe, you know, because
the conversation is like, Russell Wilson can't relate to his teammates,
but he was clearly for a while there relating to
his coach, and so I don't know if something happened
in that relationship or more realistically, Mike Tomlin just realized

(09:30):
he's not the guy. But I think that speaks to
the Russell Wilson part of this is like, oh, it's
actually over for him because the dude who put all
of his eggs in the Russell Wilson basket has now
turned on him.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Not a great sign for Russell.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
And only we'll only bring him back. I was watching
I was watching Survivor. We watched it last night. It
was from Wednesday's episode. This is no spoiler, but there's
this guy on there. The guy is shredded. He's a
stunt guy puts on a show. Anybody here watched Survivor.
I don't know Bow's taking over for Jason. Jason and

(10:05):
to leave early Iowa, Sam I don't think Monci watches
it because she's usually here at Fox Sports Radio on
Wednesday nights. The point is, is this guy is you know,
you would think he's the apple of some lady's eye. Sure,
he's a stuntman that doesn't make a lot of money,
that is living in a trailer in front of his
dad's house. He's opened this up. He may be a

(10:27):
little extra like adding it on, but he said on
the episode, he said that his girlfriend broke up with
him because of money issues and that his goal is
to win Survivor and when he does, he's going to
go and propose to her. Because oh no, yes, that
is exactly the reaction that I think so many of
us had. Sure that, okay, maybe the money issues are solved,

(10:48):
but that is not the problem. And I think that's
like if Russell Wilson goes back to the Steelers, it's
the same thing of like going back, this team has
basically told you they had a front row look at
you for an entire season, and they would rather take
someone who's been a problem in the locker room, who's
gonna be four. It was in his forties and is

(11:10):
still coming off of an achilles injury that you're not
necessarily sarily sure if he does want a play or not.
They're choosing to go down that road then to still
be in a relationship with you, And that's that's the
running on the wall. Now, maybe the Giants don't drafted
or Sanders like I think that they will, and maybe
Russell Wilson is the guy. But with Aaron Rodgers doing

(11:32):
this with the Pittsburgh Steelers, I think says that everything
about Russell Wilson. I don't think it would be a
bad landing spot for Rogers. I think it would. I
think it could be fun. I think it would be unique. Honestly,
it's never I never thought that we would see this
see that scenario. But to me, it's more of the
other domino effects that have happened that makes this Rogers
story so interesting today.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
No, there's no doubt.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
And by the way, what do you think this says
about JJ McCarthy, because yeah, Aaron Rodgers might not be
a factor, but they're still kind of lukewarm. I'm just
you know what, you're Wisconsin guy. You grew up in Wisconsin.
I mean, obviously think about the NFC North A lot
of me. Sure, Well, I would say this in knowing what.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
This is. My problem if I'm a Vikings fan, is
I don't know what my team wants. My team thinks
that they're good enough to win a Super Bowl, that
sort of thing, because that's why you talk to Aaron
Rodgers or you think about Aaron Rodgers. But the whole
reason that you drafted JJ McCarthy is for the future,
and I think they can't decide and I don't think
that they are stuck on JJ McCarthy as their starter

(12:37):
with the obvious flirtation of Rogers. Listen, Aaron Rodgers is
not going to Minnesota to be the backup to JJ McCarthy.
It is not going to be a competition. I'm sorry
that is not going to happen. Aaron Rodgers is going
to either start or he's not going to play in
twenty twenty five, or to your point, he's not going
to play, and maybe he'll join a team later. But
it is the status of JJ McCarthy. And I think

(12:57):
a lot of people have felt that this flirt was
an indictment on McCarthy, and in a recent piece in
The Athletic and talking about why the Vikings did this
and why they settled on keeping JJ McCarthy as their
QB one and not pursuing Rogers. Within that piece, they
had talked to Daniel Jones and pitched him on an
open quarterback competition. This with Daniel Jones in an open competition,

(13:22):
now he's got his own open competition in Indianapolis to
deal with, but he felt that that was a better option.
So I don't know where. I don't know what Minnesota
thinks they are right now. I think they know they
have a pretty good team, but they're trying to weigh
do we sacrifice it, do we not have the quarterback?
Do we go out and get someone. Do we stick
with our quarterback that we think is going to be

(13:42):
a long term And if I'm a Vikings fan, that
worries me because right now it doesn't seem like leadership
knows necessarily where they want to go when they're playing
a pretty good hand. Brian Flores was not a head
coach in the NFL, so he's now going to come
back and run your defense again. They've added pieces in
the offseason. Aaron Jones is not coming back. They've tried
to upgrade the offensive line. Your only question now is

(14:04):
at quarterback, and they're trying to way of like what
do we want? Do we That would be the thing
that would worry me if I'm a Vikings fan. No,
And you forget too. With McCarthy, it wasn't only the
knee injury. They had complications from the knee injury. Then
he had to have a second surgery. And so I'm
sure some of it is development. Is he good enough?
You know, it's easy to forget this now. There were
plenty of questions going into the draft about McCarthy and

(14:28):
how much was actually put on his plate at Michigan
and this and that, and so to just see kind
of all these variables get go, you know, kind of
in and around. It's just it's just interesting to see
how how all this comes out. Well, if he's always hurt,
how can he develop?

Speaker 5 (14:41):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Right? So like that, so the point of his progression
would be much different entering year two than someone who
really got to sit and watch and learn yet was
fully healthy in that year. He is not being able
to do that. And you needed him, You needed him
to you actually needed him to progress physically, yes, because
of think that he has the physical tools. But you know,

(15:02):
the NFL I love the clip from Tom Brady and
talking about the tuck rule, and he says that I
was a young quarterback at the time and playing in
that game was actually awesome because everything slowed down for me. Now,
after twenty years in the NFL and seven Super Bowls,
everything was slow motion anyway. But he said, early in
my career, everything was so fast. And so here's JJ McCarthy,

(15:23):
as you're saying, gets limited stuff at Michigan to what
he can do. Maybe he can throw the ball and
has the strong arm that's throw at sixty seventy yards downfield,
but how much Now, how fast is the game for
you when you haven't been able to really get reps
because you've been injured the whole time. Now, I think
that's a legitimate issue.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Well, and I know we did when we did a
we did Dibbs last last hour. We're talking about a
little bit about Shador. But it is interesting because what
there's about what five guys for about five spots still
with Tennessee Cleveland, the Giants. You know, we think the
Vikings are obviously rolling with JJ McCarthy, but how good

(16:00):
do you feel? It's just it's interesting that a lot
of the dust is settled. Darnold to the Seahawks, Daniel
Jones part of the competition in Indy, but Gino Smith
to the Vegas Raiders. But a lot of it still
isn't settled here as we're now what three weeks from
the draft or so.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
He's aeron Torres. I'm Dan Byer about a month April twenty,
fourth first round in the NFL Draft from Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Hit him up at Aaron Underscore Torres. You can find
me at Dan Byer on Fox. And another twelve seed
has done it. Colorado State has beaten Memphis seventy eight
to seventy. So the Rams who were favorite, as you say,

(16:37):
covered in that game. They were two and a half
point favorite. They end up covering and get the win
and now move on to the round of thirty two.
Colorado State will be facing the winner of the Maryland
Grand Canyon game, which will be interesting. Big Ten's at
a good start to the season. To the tournament, we'll
see if Maryland can continue that trend. He is Aeron Torres.
I'm Dan Byer in for Doug Gottlieb live from the

(16:59):
Tier Rack Dot Studios. Coming up next, more Turny Talk
what top seed could be in trouble tonight in the
round of sixty four. We'll tell you that next year
on Fox.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Heavy Friday, It's the Doug gottlib Show on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Dan Byer. He's erin Torres. Mante Blanios is going
to have an update on the scores of the games
going on right now. I can tell you this duke
is taking it to Mount Saint Mary's no surprise. It's
sixty to thirty early in the second half. Cooper Flagg

(17:41):
has started the second half at some point though, with
it being sixty to thirty erin Torres, John Shire is
going to have to say, we gave Cooper flag his run,
let's not risk this, let's not risk a weird landing anywhere,
and pull him out if he's in the game after
the fourteen minute mark. If it's under fourteen and he's

(18:04):
still in, I think it's a bad move by John Shire.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Yeah, and I think you got to start phasing out
some of these other guys as well. I mean that's
the whole You work hard all season long to get
the one seed, to hope to play a sixteen so
that you can pull all of your players, but especially
a guy that just a week literally a week ago,
we did not know if we were going to see
the rest of the year.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
So I'm with you. We talked about it yesterday.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
I was somewhat surprised that they even activated him for
this game. Now again, I think the argument is if
you don't and he really struggles on Sunday against whoever
they would have played, we now know it's going to
be Baylor, then you get criticized for that. But now
that he's now that he's playing, I mean, he's playing
like it's you know, February in the ACC, I think
it's time, probably in a little bit, to pull him up.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Here's the great thing about the DraftKings Sports app is
you can go on there right now and check out
lines from college basketball games. You could see that Duke
is the heavy favorite if you could live bet it.
But let's be real, we love upsets in college hoops,
and if North Carolina doesn't pick up the pace against
Ole Miss, that's going to be an upset because ole
Miss started the game as an underdog in this contest.

(19:10):
But I'll tell you what Aaron in the history that
we've seen from teams advancing to the first four, I
do believe in momentum. So as I look at the
bracket and I look down, I see Xavier sitting there
right now as a four and a half point underdog
to Illinois. I know Illinois will be playing in Milwaukee.
There'll be a lot of Alni alumni probably making this

(19:30):
short drive up, But I love the momentum of Xavier
in that game again, a four and a half point
underdog tonight in that six to eleven matchup in the
Midwest region. I've got my eyes on the Musketeers being
that team from the first four to make it to
the round of thirty.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Two team that Xavier split with over the course of
the regular season is the Yukon Huskies, two time defending champs.
They're a six and a half point favorite of the
DraftKings Sportsbook. I know everybody's out tours. You're obviously gonna
take your alma mater. I'm taking Oklahoma to potentially pull
off that upset. Listen, Oklahoma, this doesn't sound great, but
in the SEC went four and three in their last seven,

(20:08):
they're three losses. Buzzer beater at home to Kentucky, buzzer
beater on the road to Old Miss, buzzer beater in
the SEC tournament. I think you and I might have
been on air for that one against Kentucky. So really,
the last three games they could have gone the other way.
A couple really nice wins along the way. I think
one Oklahoma's just playing better too. I think part of

(20:29):
it is yukon it. Listen, One's uh no, one can
win it every year. But I think the combination of
how the roster was put together. I don't blame Dan
Hurley necessarily, but I don't think it's been his greatest
year on the sidelines. A lot of distractions, some self inflicted.
I think Oklahoma can absolutely pull off the upset. As

(20:49):
a six and a half point favorite in the DraftKings Sports.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
Yeah plus six and a half. As he said, straight
up Oklahoma plus two twenty five. I say six and
a half point favorite. There's obviously Oklahoma's a six and
a half point underdog. If I said favorite, I apologie
Yeah plus two twenty five straight up. Xavier straight up
plus one fifty four. But I like the Musketeers plus
that four and a half against Illinois and that six
to eleven matchup. Again, there's something with the first four.
I like the momentum. I didn't like it with North Carolina,

(21:14):
and right now Ole Miss is taking it to them.
We're gonna take it to the news desk with Monty Belanos,
who's following score after score after score after score, giving
us some more and more and more and more. Monzy.

Speaker 6 (21:27):
Yeah, a lot of numbers in my head, yes, yeah, with.

Speaker 7 (21:30):
The seeds, with the scores, with this, with that. All right,
So it's Day.

Speaker 6 (21:33):
Two of the men's NCAA Tournament, still Round one. One
seed Duke just got going in the second half against
sixteen seed Mount Saint Mary's. They're shooting the ball well.
They're up sixty one to thirty two. Cooper Flag twelve
points so far.

Speaker 7 (21:44):
In the game.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
At halftime, ten seed Vanderbilt has a twenty nine to
twenty two lead over seven seed Saint Mary's and halfway
through the first half, maybe Dan was onto something, but
six seed Old Miss is on top of eleven seed
North Carolina twenty six to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Monci I kid you. In my first bracket, I had
ole Miss in the final four. Really I did, and
the reason being is I like Chris Beard as a coach,
I like the style they play. But the reason I
backed off of that was because I felt they they
would be an underdog in pretty much every game they played.
I thought they'd be a favorite in whoever they played,
if it was North Carolina or San Diego State, and

(22:19):
that was not the case. They're actually an underdog in
this game, and I actually felt they could use that
to their advantage.

Speaker 6 (22:24):
So well, they're up, they're up right now still, but still,
you know, halfway through the reverse rounds, to go thirty
more minutes to goo, anything can happen. The games that
have wrapped up well. Two seed Alabama survived ninety to
eighty one against fifteen seed Robert Morris. It did get close,
Robert Morris even took the lead in the second half,
but Alabama pulls it off. Twelve seed Colorado State top
five seed Memphis seventy eight to seventy three seed Iowa

(22:46):
State crushed fourteen seed Lipscumb eighty two to fifty five,
and nine seed Baylor held on to be eight seed
Mississippi State forty five to thirty nine.

Speaker 7 (22:54):
It is day one on the ladies' side. No major upset.

Speaker 6 (22:56):
But I will tell you that three seed Notre Dame
scored one hundred and sent points, one hundred and six against.

Speaker 7 (23:04):
Fourteen seed Stephen F. Austin.

Speaker 6 (23:07):
Never heard of them who scored fifty four points, but
Notre Dame one hundred and six. In the NFL, Aaron
Rodgers met with the Steelers today. Wide receiver Brandon Cook
signed a two year deal with the Saints. Texans signed
free agent offensive tackle Trent Brown to a one year deal,
and Steph Curry is expected to miss the start of
Golden State six game road trip beginning Saturday in Atlanta.

(23:27):
Last night, he had a hard fall late in the
third quarter. It looked bad and mrid showed no structural damage,
but he does have a pelvic contusion, so I guess
positive news.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Yeah, it could be worse.

Speaker 7 (23:38):
It could be. The fall was nasty, nasty. He laid
on the floor. He was in pain. Poor guy. It
was bad. It was bad, like right on his tailbone.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
I didn't realize what happened, and as I said, I was,
I turned on Sports Center and they did about two
or three NCAA tournament games, and then they went to
Raptors Warrior or.

Speaker 7 (23:56):
Something like You're like why, yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
It's exactly and I started to text you guys, can
you believe this this? You know? Yeah, as I was
gonna say, and then it's like, oh, Steph Curry got hurt.
I understand it.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
Yeah, I know it looks really bad, but again positive
news back to you guys.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
MRI and the Pelvic area came back negative. But then
she set a confusion. I'm gonna miss at least that
game against the Hawks coming up on Saturday as they
open that road trip. He is here and Torres. I'm
Dan Beyer. It is the Doug Gottlieb Show. As we
are live from the tirec dot Com studios. I do
have to tell you can now stream the show and
all of our Fox Sports Radio shows live twenty four

(24:36):
to seven in the new and improved iHeartRadio app. Just
searts Fox Sports Radio in the app to stream us live,
and one of the newest features in the app is
that you can select Fox Sports Radio is one of
your presets, just like the presets on a radio dial.
Be sure to preset Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio
app and it will always pop up at the top
of your screen. If you don't believe me, listen to
Alabama head coach Natoates. So be sure to preset a

(25:00):
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app and it'll always
pop up at the end at the top of your screen.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Yeah, that's he had so much trouble with Robert Morris today,
you think he wouldn't have time to just endorse Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
But here we are. How close do you think my
NATO's eighty years again? So again, what Natoates has done
the Alabama head coach. He's turned into a side talker,
talks out of the side of his mouth. And I
understand living in the South, but Natoates went to high
school in Watertown, Wisconsin. It's halfway between Madison and Milwaukee,
and now he's talking like this.

Speaker 8 (25:35):
Finally got some stops and got some defensive rebounds.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
I mean, they done a great job on the offensive boards.
We didn't rebound it well enough most of the game,
but you know, we got some defensive rebounds, got some
buckets and transition open it up a little bit. But yeah,
I mean they're a good team. They're a good team.
You can tell he's stamps. He's a total side talker.
He's a total side If Moncie were to try to
do an update right now, she's chewing, this is what

(26:00):
would do. She would put the food at the shot
of her mouth and then she'd side talk.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
That's what is doing sideline interviews with food in his mouth.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
No kidding. Everybody knows the side talker. Everybody knows. Everybody
knows side talker. Were they for some reason? Well, I
got a.

Speaker 8 (26:18):
Cigar in the shot of her mouth. It's kind of stay. Yeah,
he's kind of like a gangster in nineteen forties, Dick
Tracy kind of thing. But it's also like I can
hear a little Wisconsin, I can hear a little Southern drawl.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah, we got we got some points there on the board.
You know. That's a little bit of of it. My
nay oats is varying throughout the show. I've also realized,
but I am keeping consistent with the side side talking.
Was it was it close?

Speaker 4 (26:45):
It was no, it was good.

Speaker 8 (26:46):
I mean, right off the top of the show, Right
off the top of the show, you did it? Did
I I said, that's not bad? But Also, I was
gonna you know, if you ever listen to Kurt Signetti talk,
he's like Italian, but he's also got kind of like
a Southern drawl from maybe coaching in the South for
a while, So he's I have this mix of different
things kind of going on with his his inflection. Sure
you listen to him.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
So now he's in the heartland, well, southern southern Indiana,
you'll have they'll have a drawl as well.

Speaker 8 (27:11):
Oh yeah, for sure. People in rural Iowa. It's like
whereth the Midwest? Why do you have a Southern accent?

Speaker 2 (27:15):
All right? Cooper Flag is still in the game at
the fourteen minute mark of the Duke Mount Saint Mary's game,
where they're up sixty three thirty eight, So.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Yeah, whatever I think at this point though, sorry go ahead.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
With no go ahead. I want to let you because
then I'll make a point as well.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
I don't I don't understand why you're treating this like
you know if you I mean, I obviously understandably if
you lose this game, you're out of the NCAA tournament.
But he's treating it like he's the thirteen seed at
the ACC tournament and they have no chance without Cooper Flag.
You know what I'm saying, Like, I actually agree with you.
I'm surprised at how much he's playing and I think,

(27:57):
you know, John Shire will probably say it at the
postgame press conferen it is it's any other game, and
we have to treat it as such. But I it
isn't any other game, and you will have five more
that you're trying to win after this one, and you
need Cooper Flag healthy.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
What I agree with you. You just won the ACC tournament,
and by you, I mean Duke Yes in those two
games in the semi finals and finals without Cooper Flag.
And so if you can win the ACC tournament, you
can beat Mount Saint Mary's, and I think that they
know that. I think that they know that they can.
It's just escaping something random, something weird. And I'm sure

(28:33):
then you could say that you could do that with
every player. Cooper Flagg's got a lot obviously on the
table of being the potential number one overall pick, but
it's I don't want to sit there and play safe.
And as I we talked about yesterday, I think players
will just be like if they're ready, they're ready. They're
gonna play ball. It's just the point, whether it be
him or you know, Coon Kinepel or anybody else, if

(28:56):
you're at that ten to eight minute mark and you're
still up by twenty seven points, it's probably best for
everybody to sit down and just let it go the
rest of the way. I just, I mean, just for
what you've got with this game and what could happen,
and now you've got this Baylor team that you're gonna
need everybody in full full effect for.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
Yeah, really quick, a couple of random takes.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
Can I give you one more? Cooper Flag? Sure? I
find the talk of him returning stupid.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Okay, so I don't. So this is actually very interesting.
I'll try to be quick on this. He's not returning.
I did make the argument on my show, though, I
have a pseudo half baked theory off of that, which
is this nil is obviously it's here. I don't think
people realize how much a player like Cooper Flag can
make playing college basketball. And I understand it doesn't compare

(29:46):
to a four year guaranteed contract in the NFL and
the NBA. Excuse me, but my take is this Cooper
Flag has a deal with New Balance. Okay, but let's
say it was Nike. If you're Cooper Flag, if you're Nike,
is Cooper Flag more value to you? Is he gonna
move more merch?

Speaker 4 (30:02):
Is he a.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Bigger commodity playing forty games a year on national TV
for the Duke Blue Devils, including you know, five six,
seven games that are really high profile plus the NCAA tournament.
Or is he more high profile to Is it more
important for you to get him to the league to
play for the Washington Wizards where he's gonna lose sixty
games and nobody's gonna pay attention. And so my take

(30:25):
is that I do believe at some point the shoe
companies are gonna step in and be like, listen, if
you want to go pro, go pro. But you know,
these guys have nil deals with these shoe companies, and
it's like, you know, if you want to stay, it's
you know, I think I think that I think it's
actually gonna be the shoe companies. It's not gonna be
like I think people think it's the It's it's nil

(30:47):
as in Duke is paying them this much, or Yukon's
paying them, or Kansas is paying them. I think if
I'm a if I'm a Nike executive and Cooper Flag
has just signed a five year contract with me, he
is he is more valuable to me, and he becomes
more marketable doing a second maybe thirty year at Duke
than he does playing for a lousy Wizards team. Now,

(31:09):
Cooper Flag might be the exception because he's so good,
but we know that even these number one, number two
overall picks, they don't make an impact as a rookie.
And so if you get him now, you'd sit there
and say, well, what is he going to stay four years?

Speaker 5 (31:22):
No?

Speaker 3 (31:22):
But by year two, year three, he might actually be
able to contribute to winning basketball in the NBA. So
I don't think Cooper Flag is going to be the guy.
I think somebody really good, though, is going to come
back because Nike, Adidas, whatever, is going to realize.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Well, to your point of the exposure that you could
get at Duke, you're just not going to get that.
At ninety nine point nine percent of the university college basketball,
it's probably about four or five. I think you could
put Kentucky on that list. I think that you could. Yeah,
you can put North Carolina if you're that type of player,
you'll take them to that level. But outside of that
and in Kansas, and I'm sure you know you know

(31:57):
exactly what I'm saying. The reason why gets it it's
foolish is I think we all wish that he would
that it would be a great story and how great
to have him in college basketball. Again, it's the whole
reclassifying portion of it. So when Quinn Youwers reclassified out
of Texas high school, is because he couldn't make nil
money in the state of Texas as a high school player,

(32:20):
so he reclassifies and then gets money right away. I
don't think that was the case with Cooper Flag. I
think he reclassified to get to the NBA sooner as Yeah,
and so sticking around another year again, Cooper Flag was
supposed to be a high school senior in high school
right now, but instead reclassified early. And it's in my
mind it was not to make more nil dours. It

(32:41):
was to get to the NBA and that's always been
the plan and nothing that can happen this year I
think would derail that plan.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
The other thing, this is a little inside college basketball,
but when you have a player of Cooper Flag's ability,
the day that he commits your recruiting the next guy
behind him, no knowing you're only gonna have one year.
So Duke has number two player in America is Carlos
Boozer's son already committed, plays the exact same spot as
Cooper Flag And so it's like, you're not gonna tell
Carlos Boozer's son, oh, you can't come here, And it's like,

(33:12):
but it's it's it's understood by all parties. You're gonna
come here for one year. We're gonna put you in
position to succeed. But we also got to get you
out the door to get the next guy in. And
so that's another variable in it. And by the way,
to my point, I still do think there are very
few places where that would be applicable. I agree with
you on that. I think it's gonna happen at some
point though, where a kid doesn't want to go. He's

(33:32):
out of Kentucky, he's at of wherever. By the way,
with insurance policies, you know you're protected whatever, And I
just think Nike's gonna be like, dude, you know, Nike
paid what zion like fifteen million dollars a year or
something like that after he left Duke. Now Zion is
maybe be a bad example with the way things have
turned out, but it's like what another year. I mean,
was he more market he got hurt, whatever, But you

(33:53):
get the point at.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
I do think Zion is a bigger name than Cooper
flag was. And that's it.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
You know, that's a great debate that we're not gonna
be able to do today. I don't know fulfilling it
anytime in the future. I don't feel like Cooper Flagg
got as big as I thought he would.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
And I don't know why. I have theories, but I'm
not sure. Yeah, he's erin Torres. I'm Dan byer Bonus Podcast.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
I know Doug does.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
We could just do it there. It is the Doug
Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. There could be
a theory out that a college basketball coach could be
heading for greener pastures. We'll see that story next. He's Aaron.
I'm Dan in for Doug on Fox.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Gotlib Show on Fox Sports Radio. He's erin Torres. I'm
Dan Byer. I will spare you my Natoates doing sidelines
for the Duke Mount Saint Mary's game. I was gonna
do it in my Natoats impression, but I will not.
Eight minutes left, Cooper Flag is out of the game. Okay,
there you go.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
I mean, I'm with you, just to be clear. They're
up thirty five now with eight minutes to go. I'm
surprised that he lasted this long. I understand, I understand
wanting to get him out there and kind of get
you know, get a sweat going and all that. But
I also think that you know, at some point, enough

(35:10):
is enough.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Let's go to the news desk. Montce of Blandis has
got the press, the press think thanks to Iowa Sam
Bob Benson and filled in for the injured Jason Stewart
also hanging out as well.

Speaker 6 (35:23):
What's going on, manci, A lot of college hoops is
going on.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Let's get down and there, toy, Let's do it.

Speaker 7 (35:28):
Let's do it. But we're actually going to start with
the story not having to do with a score.

Speaker 6 (35:32):
There are reports that Northwestern is in deep discussions on
a new contract for men's basketball coach Chris Collins that
would give him additional years, a raise, and more support,
a little bit of everything. He's been the head coach
since twenty thirteen, but he has been recently linked to
Villanova's head coaching vacancy.

Speaker 7 (35:51):
What are you guys' thoughts on that.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
I think it's very interesting that whole coach gets a raise.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
I have another opening. I'd say it's that's my take
as well. I don't know how much of a candidate
he is or isn't, but generally when you're like I'm
taking the extension a lot of times that just means
you're not actually a candidate. But hey, you got a
little bit more money out of your current employer, So
good for him.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
I think I will also say this, I think that
Chris Collins has taken Northwestern like he like if he left,
it would be fine. I mean, he took him in
the NCAA tournament and then multiple times they one game
I can't remember they won. I know that they in
separate years, but I know that they won the first
round game the first time that they ended up going

(36:37):
to the tournament. The point being is like his work
if he left would be completed, would be done. Now
you're to the point. He's in his early fifties. You know,
he was in Chicago when his dad was coaching there,
so it's a really a home base for him. So
there may be just be the point of all right,
this is where I'm going to be, this is where

(36:58):
I want to be, and if they're going to pay
he just redid their arena a couple of years ago.
Seems to fit. But he wouldn't. He wouldn't. He wouldn't
be leaving anything undone if he did take a job elsewhere.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
I can't think of a great parallel. I feel like
there is one of a duo that was just somewhere
for a while, and it was kind of surprising that
he left, but it also was like, well, he did
everything he could. We can't be mad about it. I
can't think of a perfect example, but that's basically yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
And then back to back years they won games in
the NCAA TI last year, in the year prior, but
it was twenty seventeen when they oh, I've had that.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
All the big jay journalism nerds were freaking out about
making the nca Tournament.

Speaker 7 (37:38):
So all right, guys, let's move on here.

Speaker 6 (37:40):
More details on Aaron Rodgers visit today with the Steelers,
so ESPN reports that he spent about six hours at
the facility facility today.

Speaker 7 (37:50):
Meeting with the coaches.

Speaker 6 (37:51):
It was a positive experience, but the two sides no deal,
are going to remain in touch.

Speaker 7 (37:56):
While the NFL Network says that the Steelers and Rogers have.

Speaker 6 (37:58):
A contract kind of set for the past couple of
weeks or parameters around a contract, money wasn't a discussion today.
It was a chance for both of them to get
to know each other. But apparently the Giants are still
involved and the decision is in Roger's hands.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
Can we what are we waiting for?

Speaker 3 (38:17):
So here's my question, what is Aaron Rodgers gonna do
when he retires or when he's out of football?

Speaker 4 (38:23):
No family, no kids, no wife, no girl.

Speaker 7 (38:25):
It's like a lot of darkness.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
Yeah, I think he's just doing this because he wants.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
It's like when your mom retires or something and she like, oh, yeah,
I gotta go to the post office today and you know,
might even have to swing by the market. It's like, no,
those are two things you do in like an hour
period when you have a normal life. And I feel
like that's where we are with there oh, you know,
I just it's just a getting to know you a thing.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
With the Steelers. It's like, hey, Aaron, we got ourn
organization round here. Are you coming or not?

Speaker 3 (38:50):
And he just wants something to put on the calendar
so he doesn't have to stand on the beach by
himself all day.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Crazy That the Steelers shows you how desperate they are
would be willing to wait to see yeah Vikings to
that reports validity, if they've had parameters on a deal.
It's basically like, all right, I'll sign with you, but
first I want to see what's behind door number one.

Speaker 7 (39:10):
That's and that's the Vikes.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Crazy.

Speaker 7 (39:11):
Yeah, yeah, that's the Vikings for sure. Absolutely absolutely. I
don't know if you guys would ever spend this much money.

Speaker 6 (39:17):
But Paul Skeen's, you know, Roocky Sensation pitcher last year
for Pittsburgh.

Speaker 7 (39:22):
His rookie autograph card.

Speaker 6 (39:24):
Sold for one point eleven million dollars.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
Wow, a lot more than what the Pirates give away
that they were giving. And the Livy Dune visit like
that's it was smart move by the kid or the
family of the Shure.

Speaker 6 (39:41):
I mean yeah, yeah, even though you know the kids
like man, I could have sat with Livvy done for
an entire game in her sweet as a golf fan.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
I'm like, give me a membership at Oakmont, which by
the way, we'll host the US Open this summer, and
you can have the card like that would have been.
It would have been easy for me. But one point
one million dollars.

Speaker 7 (39:59):
I know it's a lot.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
I just don't know if it goes up or down
in value.

Speaker 7 (40:03):
It depends on his career. It's so early on.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Are you spending it for buying it for value or
just because you're probably a huge pirates fan with a
lot of money.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Or just you just have silly money and you can
do That's what I mean.

Speaker 7 (40:13):
That's suppressed.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Thanks Monty, have a great weekend Ole missus Roland, we
hope your weekend does as well. For Aaron, I'm dan
talked to you next time on Fox
