Speaker 2 (00:18):
Happy Friday to you. You've made it to the end
of the week. And I think a lot of people,
Aaron are You're gonna have it a cruise control next
week because of the Thanksgiving holiday. So a lot of
people in a good mood today. It's not just Moncey
jacked up on her caffeine. Everybody's got a little bit
of pep in their step. Jason Stewart is here, Iowa
Sam is here. Iowa Sam's getting ready for a Thanksgiving holiday.
(00:40):
I'm checked up about Bozzi's giving the Richard Nixon Peace
Victory signs. She's ready to go have a midday college
basketball on. You know, it's you know, it's some sort
of something when there's midday college basketball.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
That is in there that is true.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Charleston right now has their annual Thanksgiving tournament.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
This is Greenbrier, West Virginia Okay, I don't. I'm not familiar,
but I'm told the resort is very nice.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yes, oh they've built I haven't been there, but golf
courses used to hold a PGA Tour event It's how
to Live event. They also have built an NFL facility
for really for teams to hold training camps.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
And when teams on the West Coast sometimes have to
stay on the East Coast for back to back games
or even go to Europe, sometimes they'll stay at the
Green Briar and work out at those facilities.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I had, There're no idea. Yes, I did.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
This tournament that's on right now, started about two or
three years ago, and I did do a quick Google
dive because I was like, why random West Virginia. But
it is not random, as I found out. But I
didn't know quite all of those things about it.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah, the magnificent spot that i'd love to go, have
heard great things about, but have not made it to.
West Virginia is one of the I don't want to
say few states is probably about ten or twelve that
I haven't been to, but I have never been to
West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
True story.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
I have been to about forty six or so maybe
forty four and West Virginia is one that I have
not either.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
It's kind of probably been to Ohio. I've been to
Ohio for sure. Yeah, you've probably been to Pennsylvania. Definitely
been to Pennsylvania, probably been to Virginia. But yeah, I've
been to Alaska and Hawaii, but it's.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Just never taken you to West Virginia. Even though all
those surrounding states you've been to, you just haven't been
into West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Those country roads, they did not take me home.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
No, there are certain states like that. For me, it's
like Kansas. I've never been to Kansas, and I've never
been to Arkansas. Sure, but I've been to the spots
around all of those places. Iowa, Sam, You've did you
say you've never been to Kansas, never been to Kansas,
but you've been to and you've never been to Arkansas. Correct, Okay, Yes,
I just like want to go back to that. Like
(02:47):
I've been to Colorado, been to Kansas, been to Oklahoma.
Jason and I were in Oklahoma last year for Doug's
opener against Oklahoma State.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
You know what weird state I've never been to, which
I feel like I should have at this point, I've
actually never ever been to Michigan, and you feel like
major commerce. Now the final four is either next year
or the year after, so I'll probably go. But uh,
you know, big city, big college sports, Michigan, Michigan state.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I've never been to the state of Michigan.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Jason Stewart and view, Uh, is there any state on
your US map that you would like to color in
that you've been in.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
I've heard a lot about Oregon. It's kind of my
temperament too. I kind of like rainy and dreary and uh,
it's beautiful, lot of hiking.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, I think that would be a spot for you. Absolutely,
Sam Well.
Speaker 7 (03:34):
I was just gonna say, I've done the trip from
Iowa to Pennsylvania a couple of times, and you usually
will drive through Wheeling, West Virginia to get into Pennsylvania.
So I have driven through the Green Hills of West Virginia,
very beautiful state.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Really, you don't just go straight through Chicago, off through Gary,
across some reason.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
And Cleveland.
Speaker 7 (03:54):
It's just always taken me through Wheeling, there's a little
parcel of West Virginia and then going into Pennsylvania.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
So I've not been to Montana. I'd love to go.
Speaker 7 (04:03):
There 've been to Wyoming, I've been to some of
the surrounding states, but not not been to Montana.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Have you been to Mississippi. I've not been to Mississippi.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Lane Kiffin has. It's just how long will he be
in Mississippi is the question. And we could find out
erin Torres quite possibly as soon as today. I was
not snooping erin Torres. But I know you were looking
at a flight plan. No, someone took a flight plan
on a tweet and made their own drawing. Well, no,
(04:33):
it was. It was not an actual flight plan. You
know what they drew, But that's people trying to track
Lane Kiffin. Well, no, what I was actually looking at.
He's been post shuttle no'll just put it that way.
I don't know if he's been posting Bible versus or something.
But they're very specific, like be in the moment, da da,
So some guy put out on Twitter this morning. Lane
(04:54):
Kiffin's devotional book is getting eerily specific and a little biting,
and it opens with your fifth in the nation, around
the custom of the college football playoffs. So it was
obviously a photo shop of these very emo things that
Lane Kiffin has been posting. But to your point, Dan,
I don't think we're gonna get any clarification by the
end of the show.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
But Lane Kiffin is scheduled.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
To meet with his AD today and I guess what
I would say is I think if the AD, if
he tells the AD that I'm not in a rush
to make a final decision, like like, I think there's
this perception like would olemiss really move off of him
in the middle of a playoff run. I think they
would because I think they've They've sat there and said,
(05:35):
we've given you everything that you've asked for, We've done
it your way, we've been whatever, and it's like, we
can't wait until the middle of December into maybe January
for you to make a final decision because it cuts
our roster, it limits the people that could potentially replace you.
And if you don't plan on being here long term,
(05:55):
or more specifically, if you're not sure at some point,
we do need an answer because I think they they're
not going to be left at the altar, And so
there is a meeting today, and like I said, if
they get the impression that he really needs another couple
of weeks to look around. I think they really seriously
may kick him to the curb if so.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Kiffin on the Pat mccaffee Show said that there was
no ultimatum given previously. Now to your point, there may
be one today. The conversation that has built up is
if Lane Kiffin isn't the coach for ole Miss after
the Egg Bowl next week against the Mississippi State, should
that alter their ranking in the College for Conversation and
(06:38):
I we touched on it briefly yesterday. I think it's
different than Jordan Travis. I think it's different with players.
I don't think that it should affect their standing. We
saw Florida State play a game without Jordan Travis and
it wasn't good. We saw Ohio State play their game
without JD. Barrett with Cardile Jones and it was really
good and that allowed them to get into the into
(07:00):
the bracket. It's now different with a twelve team bracket
as opposed to just the four. But I think it's
I don't think that ole Miss should be penalized if
Lane Kiffin were to leave and then not coach the
team in the playoff.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Yeah, I think it becomes how do you quantify, like,
how would you quantify, like, if they finish eleven and
one with Lane Kiffin, is he worth a win? Is
he were two wins? Is he worth a ranking? Is
he worth whatever? Like, I actually agree with you. I
think it's an interesting conversation, and it's one where, like
you know, sometimes you just kind of see stuff percolate
on social media and you say, well, that's just the
(07:35):
dumbest thing I've ever heard. I don't think this is
dumb from the perspective of it isn't a conversation that
we're allowed to have. Like, I think it makes sense
to at least bring up this conversation. But I don't
think the committee can sit there and say, well, they
were the sixth seed, but now that lane Kiffin's gone,
there the nine seed. I don't think they can do that.
I don't think that they would. But a couple of things. One,
(07:58):
you know, Ole miss has to win one more game
before we figure all that out. And then two, I
think as importantly, we got to see how everything else
shakes up.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Are you and I'm just guessing in this, but I'm
getting a sense that maybe you're not loving what's going
on with Lane Kiffin? Will that be a fair assessment,
you're not loving all of the gamesmanship.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
I think two things are true. I think any life
choice you make, I think you're certainly allowed to evaluate
everything and gather information. And so I think I don't
think Lane Kiffin purposely wanted it to get out that
(08:39):
his family was basically doing an SEC tour earlier this week.
So I understand that. What I also do understand. What
I also do believe is that you are in the
middle of the greatest season in the history of ole
Miss football, at least since all of us have been alive.
I don't know what happened in nineteen fifty seven with
Johnny vaud as the head coach, whatever, I do believe
(09:00):
that you kind of owe it to these people, this
fan base that has had your back, that gave you
a shot when nobody else was really in line to
hire you at an SEC caliber job, to not string
it along because the thing is, like, you know, you obviously,
being in sports, you're probably a little bit more in
tune with it than most. But his last three or
four press conferences, not even forget after the Florida game.
(09:23):
I'm talking the Monday Tuesday, in the lead up to
the Florida game. It was very specific questions about are
you gonna be the coach here next year? What makes
a great job, And it's just taking such a spotlight
off of your team and off of a school that
has given you so much opportunity. So I guess what
I would say is I understand him wanting to do
the due diligence, but now that it's out, I don't
(09:45):
think you can string this along for another three weeks
and say I'll make cause cause and a quick backstory
every old misfan two weeks ago their boilerplint response was
he doesn't make any decisions until after the season. That's
how he's always done it. Whatever, Well, this sea literally
might not end until the middle of January, but at
minimum probably will not get any sort of real resolution
(10:07):
until Christmas time. And I don't think you can wait
that long in this era.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
See I look.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
At Ole miss and from their position right now, I
understand that you wouldn't want to wait till January eight,
Or if you're happening to make the championship game and
go on a run, you wouldn't want to wait till
the third or fourth week of January to end up
finding a head coach. But if Lane Kiffen being at
ole Miss at that point would lead them through the playoffs,
(10:34):
I don't know how ole Miss could say we don't
want you here. I don't think it's the Bochem Beckler
to have a Michigan man in telling Bill Frieder, you're
not going to coach this team because you took the
Arizona State job. We're going with Steve Fisher way back
when nineteen eighty nine. I don't think that that's the
(10:55):
case with ole Miss. To your point of this being
the greatest ole Miss season that they would have had,
that they may have had an history if he delivers
on that, especially in today's day and age of transfer portal.
And I understand that the late window, but I would
almost sacrifice that to be able to have the run
that you could have with your head coach. I just
(11:15):
don't know if LSU would want to wait that long
or Florida would want to wait that long to And
I don't know if Florida's still in it or not.
Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. But if I'm LSU,
I can't I understand the pride of it all. But
this is your special season and to let it run.
I just I would want him to be the head coach.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Okay, so I'm gonna do the worst thing in radio,
and you and I have had this conversation. I'm gonna
say I actually see both sides of that conversation. I
absolutely see your side of you have a chance to
do something really special and you worry about the end.
At the end, I think the way Old missees it is, Hey, dude,
we and it's in large part because of Lane Kiffin.
(11:57):
It's like we are on the press because of you,
but because you also told us what we need from
a financial standpoint, from an infrastructure standpoint, from whatever. And
we believe that we can keep this going if there
is a world that you are not part of this.
What we don't believe can happen is we wait until
(12:18):
late December when all of the good candidates are gone.
We wait until late December when the signing you know,
when the signing class either has to sign or they don't.
We wait until late December when the portal is opening.
We still don't even have a coach. Our players can
go in, but we have nobody to recruit them. Yes,
this job is great in large part because of you now,
(12:39):
but this job is also now great period, and we
could lose a lot of the momentum that we've built
up over the last four or five six years thanks
in large part to you, but that we don't want
to put ourselves in.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
So I actually see both sides.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
I actually think your point is very salient and like
on brand of like, you don't get many chances anywhere
to win championships and if you're a level in one
and you're in position to do it, just ride it
out and whatever happens after happens after. But I understand
their point of like basically, hey, this is now a
great job and we're gonna lose a ton of momentum
(13:13):
if you walk out on December twenty ninth, and we
don't really have a backup plan ready for you.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Do you think that ole Miss will rise to the
level of what LSU is like in terms of competing finances, revenues,
what they put in. I don't think that they can.
I don't think that they will. So like I don't
blame don't blame Lane Kiffen for competing my thing with
ole Miss. And the reason I asked the question is
(13:40):
it actually takes some gumption to be like, this is
the reality of it, this is this is the reality,
and I understand the reality. So to sit there and
think that you're gonna compete, like, no matter how great
schools were in the Big Ten, they always do that.
Michigan and Ohio State were different beasts and some of
the reasons schools had successes because they under stood that,
(14:01):
they understood what their path is. Now college sports has
changed over the last couple of years. But instead of
trying to become a Michigan in Ohio State, you have
to find your own past. And I'm Wisconsin exactly specifically.
It's who I had in mind, maybe even Iowa for
that matter, and talking about the Hawkeyes and realizing we're
never gonna be that, so let's figure out the best
way for us to succeed. I think that would show
(14:21):
something with Ole miss because I don't think that they
can and I don't think it's a guarantee. We've seen
how people have tried to feel in at Florida, they
still haven't found anybody to replace urban Meyer. After all
of these years we've tried, Like, it's no guarantee that
the next guy you get is going to work after
Lane Kiffin, So why not max.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Out as much as you can and realize who you are?
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Yeah, listen, I would love to yell and scream and
say I totally disagree with you. I think there is
something to that. I also just think that they feel like, hey,
we can't wait until. I think the big thing, Dan
is it's not just losing Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
It's who would be available.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
If you let if you let this run out and
we'll worry about next year next year. It's who would
even be available on January seventh, December twenty ninth, whatever.
And I'm gonna nerd out on college football a little bit.
But you know, John Somerl, who's the two lane head coach,
was an assistant at Old Miss from the state of Alabama,
so Alburn is interested in him. There were conflicting reports
(15:23):
on if you was gonna interview with Florida or not.
I bring it up because I think Old Miss thinks
we can get that guy who's having a ton of success,
who Auburn wants, who Florida wants, but we obviously he
will not even be available to us on January seventh
or whatever. And so that's where I think it does
become a little bit conflicting. Is is just the notion
(15:43):
of I understand what you're saying of it doesn't matter
who you get. By the way, it doesn't matter if
you keep laying Kiffin. There's no guarantee you'll ever be
in this position again. I think their thing is I think,
let me put it this way. I think we look
at it as it's the portal era. You can make
it all up really fast, and it's like, I think
the opposite is true too. It's the portal era. It
(16:06):
can crumble really fast. And I think that's probably their
fear of letting this play out with link I.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Just rather cash in on this season if it doesn't
work after that. We've seen the coaching carousel be completely
foreign from anything we've known previously in college football this year.
I mean, James Franklin was the head coach at Penn
State a month and a half ago, right and now
he's leading Virginia Tech program, who still has a home
game on their schedule coming up tomorrow against Miami. I
think that you can turn things around. And no disrespect
(16:34):
to John Sumral who's been in a lot of coaching jobs,
but to your point, if he could be a target
for Ole Miss and if he goes to Auburn, which
a lot of people think that he's likely going to,
then you're thinking like, oh, we missed out, but we're
really gonna do this and waste our maybe best season
ever because we think that John Sumral was the guy. Well,
then like, I don't know, I'd rather wait and see
(16:57):
what I would have for Lane and the rest of
this year.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
And move on.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I know, really gotta go. Let me one quick question though,
how much of this is online?
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Kiffin?
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Right, because let's go back to the famous Denny Green
Denny Green or is it Denny Green? Or you play
to win the game. Well, Lane Kiffin, you're winning the games.
I know what LSU is hypothetically on a piece of
paper or Florida is hype. But you're doing everything, like
everything that you could hypothetically do three years from now
(17:24):
at LSU, you're doing right now at Old miss And
that's the part that I think is kind of mind
boggling to me. I do think to your point, big
picture thirty thousand foot view, LSU probably is more sustainable
over a five, ten, fifteen year period than Old Misses.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
But at the end of the day, you're.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Never gonna be better than eleven and ten and one
and in the playoff, regardless of what happens at your
last regular season game at LSU than the yard one.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
I think the most interesting thing you said there is
that the LSU job could be open again in three years. True, right,
Like that's like, that's the point Roy Williams turn down
North Carolina a couple of times at Kansas and then
when he ultimately needed to take over, he took over,
but he had options to leave and go back home,
and he didn't. He stayed. They went with other coaches.
This is the same thing where guess what LSU actually
may be there three year still on the line and
(18:13):
go so well.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Remember he almost took the Auburn job about three four
years ago because he thought he had to get out.
And imagine if he had taken the I mean, I'm
sure he'd be awesome. But it's like now LSU and
Florid are fighting over you. Listen, we talked a second ago.
We talked about Kaylen Debor, who knows what his future Anyway,
We could go on and on, but I think there's
something to these good jobs.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
He's fifty years old. These good jobs are going to
open again.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
And almost doesn't even have a game this weekend, so
they're on and by Oregon USC are not.

Today.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Doug's Green Bay Phoenix basketball team lost to Yale seventy
three sixty seven in the first round of the Paradise
Jam in the US Virgin Islands, so Doug squad will
take the court in the consolation bracket. I believe they
played tomorrow. Let me quick look at the bracket. Where
did my bracket go? Of the Yes, they do play tomorrow,
(19:35):
So UMass sort at Charleston playing right now for us
our good buddy Jared Smith. You can hear on Countdown
to Kickoff every Saturday with Rich Ornberger and Brian No.
It's all presented by Bett MGM. It airs Saturday starting
at nine o'clock goes till noon Eastern Time. You can
listen live on any of our Fox Sports radio affiliates
or on the iHeartRadio app. And again it's all presented
(19:57):
by Bet MGM, Jared Happy Fry. Aaron and I were
just talking about Lane Kiffin. Are there any Lane Kiffin
wagers that we could make and whether he stays or
goes or are those off the board?
Speaker 3 (20:08):
No such thing. No, No, that you can.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
You can make that bet in fact right now. And
I've been using the prediction markets, which by the way,
is the future of gambling. I think based off of
what I'm hearing right now, Lin Kiffin's a seventy eight
percent probability to go to LSU. It's up significantly today.
The prediction markets are fascinating with the head coach stuff.
Guys like for example, Penn State, it was pretty much
(20:32):
Eli drink What's for a long period of time. We've
seen some Bob Chesney money come in today. The jmu
head coach. I think that has some legs. In Florida Land,
it's a little bit more undecided. Jedfish is the favorite
currently and I think that's gonna be the more interesting
domino right Lsu to me is the most high profile,
(20:54):
best job remaining. I think Lane is gonna be kind
of the you know, kicking it off, you know, and
then once he makes his decision, I think that'll, you know,
the pieces will fall into places very quickly after that,
I think, well.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
I'll tell you really quick. We got not really late
breaking news, but Lane Kiffin was meeting with his a
D to day, Keith Carter, and Keith Carter just put
out a statement. It's a long one, but it ends
with an announcement on coach. Kiffin's future is expected the
Saturday following the game. So another another week of just
where is Layla Kiffin? Where is Knox Kiffen? And uh,
(21:30):
you know, we'll see what we get. So Jared, let
me ask you this really quick. I think that says
a lot.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
By the way, We're gonna play on Friday, right, yeah, yeah,
So you're waiting a day like if you were to
just announce it later in the week, once you say
I'm staying in Oxford, and everybody loves it in the
locker room, but they're going to wait a day after
the game.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
If he's staying, he's leaving. I mean, I mean, if
he's if he's if they're announcing it after the game,
he's leaving. I agree with that one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Yeah, very interesting, not leaving for Penn State, right, Jared?
So where are we at with Penn State? Since I
know you're a PSU guy.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
I think it's drink wits. I do.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
I got that text message pretty early in the process
from a couple people that I trust that he's the
top guy on the board. I think it makes sense
when you consider the fact that he just convinced the
number one high school recruit in the state of Pennsylvania
at least, I should say, the number one quarterback recruit, Zalors,
to go to Columbia Missouri. So obviously there's a strong
connection to Pennsylvania recruiting. He just got Bopabula to transfer
(22:26):
from Penn State last year, and he also convinced some
really good defensive players to transfer in. I believe the
Wilson kid from Georgia. You convinced one of the best
linebackers at Georgia to leave Kirby Smart and Georgia and
play at Missouri. And I know money had something to
do with it, but let's be honest. All these programs
have money now, so there has to be some kind
of differentiator to why you want to go to Missouri
(22:48):
and not somewhere else. And I do think his style
is a little more fiery. I don't know much about
him personally, but I do think, based off of what
I've heard from people that I think are pretty connected
to the program, and based off of some of those
other recruiting pieces that I can put in place, like
that would be my first choice. Aaron, it does seem
(23:08):
like Chesney has some buzz here. He's a Pennsylvania guy.
He's from central Pennsylvania. But to me, if you go
from James Franklin to Bob Chesney, it's to me a
massive downgrade. Obviously, Kraft overplayed his hand. Think he could
get one of these big guys to calm. Maybe it
was Elcho, maybe it was Key, maybe it.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Was Kaylin de Boor.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
And now all of those guys have kind of slipped
through your fingers and now you're dealing with, you know,
the second choice. But to me, Eli Drinkwitz, who has
a very good pedigree, you know, turning programs Droun like.
To me, Eli Drinkwitz is Chesney from five years ago,
what he did with app State. So I think Drinkwitz
would be the number one choice in my eyes, the
way I see you playing out now, I think Lsu
(23:49):
gets Laine. I think Jed Fish goes to Florida. I
think Drinkwitz goes to Penn State, and then I think
we filtered down from there.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
All right, let's focus on the games coming up this weekend.
An interesting weekend because it's kind of the s in
a week between the rivalry games. So Ole Miss we
mentioned earlier, they have a bye this week. You've got
some of the the also rans Alabama, Eastern Ill Yeah yeah,
hire me up hey. But we do have in the
big ten USC and Oregon, to me, the most intriguing contest.
(24:18):
The line stayed pretty consistent at least over the last
forty eight hours. Looks like Oregon is still a ten
point favorite. Does the USC have a shot in this one?
Speaker 5 (24:25):
I think they have a shot, to my understanding. Let
me pull this over here, I think every time it's
touched ten, it's gotten bought back down. Actually no, there
actually is a ten and a half out there, but
every time it seems to have gotten to ten, it
seems like that's where the that's where the USC money
comes in. So if you're seeing a ten and a
half out there, I think you should feel comfortable that
if you bet USC plus ten and a half, you're
(24:47):
not gonna be you know, holding on to eleven and
it's not gonna go to eleven or twelve come Saturday.
Oregon needs a game like blood Guys. They're not getting
in with two losses, not with their schedule. They need
to win this game. I do think talented secondary for USC.
They've been fantastic against the pass this year, but I
think it's a little bit of fools gold because since
(25:07):
Week five they're a terrible pressure eight team. Their pass
rush grades outside the top eighty, and they're really bad
in affecting the quarterback. And I think that's where Dante
More might have a big edge in this game. They
need somebody USC does to step up and pass rush
the heck out of More in this game and make
him uncomfortable because when he has been uncomfortable go watch
the Indiana film and even the Iowa film, although the
(25:30):
weather and the surroundings might have had something to do
with that more than the Iowa pass rush. I do
think you're gonna have, you know, some issues. But if
he's in a clean pocket and they can run the ball,
and they've run it really well this year, I think
that's where I see some issues for USC when I
went back last So last week I watched the Iowa
you know, to prep for the Iowa game. I watched
the Notre Dame USC film because I wanted to see
(25:52):
how USC's defense handled a physical running game, and Danton
Lynn played his two safeties deep like the entire game,
and Notre Dame ran it all over USC. So is
Lynn gonna be stubborn and bring that extra safety down
and force oregonna throw it? Or is he gonna let
a very good trio of Oregon backs just kind of
run wild in this game and give Dante more clean
pocket by not putting pressure. So I see some issues
(26:13):
for us he stopping it in this game. But on
the other side of my av has been fantastic elite
pair of ACE receivers in Lemon and lane, and Oregon
plays a ton of quarters coverage, and that's what USC
has been really good against this year. Actually, Oregon plays
it at the highest rate of any team in college football,
and US he's had a lot of success over ten
yards per play, third most in the Power for against
quarters coverage. So we'll see how the Oregon secondary handles
(26:36):
the USC offense. But I think in general, organ should
have an advantage in this game because of their offensive line,
because of how they can run the ball.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
I know we got to get to some NFL but
really quickly.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
I believe Oklahoma opened about a nine to nine and
a half point favorite, seeing in one sports book it
is down to six and a half.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Just mentioned Eli Drikowitz.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Is he gonna ruin some playoff dreams here before he
potentially goes to Penn State.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
I think this line move is more Purbula is probably
gonna play, and the market is adjusting accordingly. I think
it's probably adjusting too much. We talk about this in
the NFL all the time, like there's grades for each quarterback,
and when one leaves and the other one enters, we
upgrade downgrade the line. But let's say that Joe Burrow situation,
like Joe Burrow is gonna play this week, but he's
not one hundred percent Joe Burrow, so we can't upgrade
(27:20):
the Bengals fully with Burrow back. I think it's the
same thing for Missouri, like Pabula's back, but how healthy
is he and is he going to be one hundred percent.
If that's the case, then this line maybe he's moved
a little bit too much. You get a little bit
of value on Oklahoma. I do like the Missouri run
offense first and yards after contact this year. A Mott
Hardy is a freak. Oklahoma's really good at tackling at
the second level, and they're fantastic at defending explosives. They
(27:42):
don't give up a lot of explosive runs this year.
I think the more interesting matchup is on the other
side of the ball iron Oklahoma's offense against the Missoi defense.
We talked about Wilson and Young off the edge. They
got McClellan in the middle is an absolute, you know
man eater. But Missouri won of four schools this year
top ten both pass rush and rushing grade, so they
get after you in the passing game and they can
(28:03):
stop the run, and Oklahoma's been a little bit inconsistent
on offense this year. Their offensive line is good at
pass blocking, not great at run blocking. So I'll be
interested to see how healthy material is and how the
Oklahoma offense looks, because that, to me is the side
of the ball that's going to determine who wins.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Well, I got one more college football and it's kind
of just it's a topic Aaron and I have talked
about a little off air. We're going to dive into it,
but I'm just gonna ask you it. Ohio State hasn't
had Cardell Tait as of late. Jeremiah Smith is dinged out,
but they're an overwhelming favorite against Rutgers with that game
against Michigan looming. If you were to bet this game
(28:39):
in Columbus on Saturday, how would you go about it?
Considering the big stakes that Ohio statu is moving forward
and the health of some of their better players right
now is in question.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Good question. I think neither of those guys play this week. Dan,
that's my gut. I agree, why would you play them?
I mean, it's fair to ask questions about who Ohio
State's played in the schedule, and all that stuff. Like,
I understand that we talked about it with Brian last
week and he made the take that he thinks Ohio
State is a fraud, very overrated, and I'm not quite there.
(29:13):
I actually think they're the team that has the least
amount of questions about them in the country. But I
think it is fair to question some of the things
that they've done this season. I think both of those teams,
Michigan and Ohio State, I would be shocked if you
get one hundred percent peak. Although to be fair, Michigan's
got a much better matchup I think against Maryland, but
Ohio State's still probably gonna be without both those guys
(29:35):
this week.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Yeah, the funny thing is is that you may not
believe in them, but the games that they were supposed
to have on their schedule.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Yeah, the Penn State name.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
I hate to say it's aired, but Penn State screwed
up a lot of things.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
For a lot of it.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
You mentioned Oregon's resume, Dan to your point that Ohio
State resume doesn't look as good without Penn State.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
They screwed up a lot of things. I agree. Yeah, yeah, crazy, Well.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
We're great at that right, We're just screwing things up
for everyone else.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
A great line. All right, Jared, we appreciate the time.

With the press the headlines of the day as we
read between the lines, and apparently Jason Stewart, I don't know,
(31:19):
we read between the lines and behind the bars?
Speaker 3 (31:22):
Is that the uh? I don't know. I don't know,
like a bar bar.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
I don't know, like a federal prison bar, federal prison bars.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
You know what kind of bar are we talking about here?
Crops on her updates? You know? You know I've spunk
from the pan and Dizaz I would use the different word, but.
Speaker 8 (31:44):
Hater all right, guys.
Speaker 9 (31:47):
Uh, Aaron Torres was hoping for news out of ole
Miss with Lane Kiff, and you got the opposite.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
I did it. It's great content, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 9 (31:56):
You wanted some news, right, so this you got something.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (32:00):
Keith Carter of ole Miss released his statement. I'm gonna
read it to you, guys, and you can read between
the lines, listen to what they're trying to tell you.
Tell us coach Kivin and I have had many pointed
and positive conversations regarding his future at ole Miss, including
meeting today with Chancellor Boyce.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
While we discuss next steps, we.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
Know we cannot lose sight of what is most important,
our sixth ranked team that is poised to finish the
regular season in historic fashion. Despite the outside noise, Coach
Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl,
and together we want to ensure that our players and
coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday's game. This team
is on the cusp of an unprecedented season, and it's
imperative they feel the support of the ole Miss family
(32:37):
in the week ahead. An announcement of coach Kiffin's future
is expected the Saturday following the game. Don't dun dahn.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
I heard a groan in Aaron Torres's voice when Monty
read we cannot lose sight of what is most important,
our sixth ranked team that is poised to finish the
regular season in history fashion.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
So true story? I was was that? Was that what
the ground sounded like?
Speaker 5 (33:05):
All right?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
I didn't know I've grown like that.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
No, So I didn't read the full statement while we
were on with Jared Smith because you know, I'm trying
to respect our guest and I just read the last line.
So yeah, when I heard that, get ready to learn
LSU buddy. That's why I get ready to learn coach
and search Keith Carter because it's it's over.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
The Egg Bowl is Fridays, we mentioned, and so to
schedule a press conference on Saturday tells me that you're
trying to separate yourself from the outcome of the game
instead of just piggybacking off what is likely going to
be a victory. Now again, rivalries throw them out the window,
But that to me is I would, honestly, I would
(33:50):
rather just have had speculation go on the week than
to have this statement be released.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
If you're an old.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Misfit, right, yes, absolutely, yes, this kind of tells you
what's about to happen. You might as well just say
that he's he's gone. Then well that point.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
And that's that's what I was gonna say. Is I
think the theme is, hey, enjoy this. I think now
you can get zero joy out of it knowing what's coming.
Does that make sense, like, like, hey, let's not take
away this is an incredible season. Enjoy enjoy. It's about
the journey, not the destination. It's like, yeah, if the
destination is gonna end in a car crash and a
(34:25):
fire everywhere, then yeah, I'm not gonna enjoy the journey
alongside the destination. Okay, Sorry, now you're good. I hope
everyone in federal prison. That wasn't too much for everybody
in federal prison.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
All right, Jason Stewart, Oh, I'm sorry. I just I
just think that it's unfortunate. I thought that even if
he was gonna leave for LSU, I would like for
him to coach throughout And now like this has been announced.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Hey, and yeah, I have a question. I have a
question for you after my I.
Speaker 7 (35:00):
Have a question for you, guys.
Speaker 9 (35:01):
What is the point of making this announcement?
Speaker 8 (35:03):
Why not?
Speaker 9 (35:04):
Is there like something like calendar wise about right?
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Daren's point.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
You don't want to lose out on a candidate that
may take another job elsewhere.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
Right, But as of right now, I think it's actually
a pr misstep. I think it's go ahead and enjoy
this week. Don't worry about this. But now it's all
anyone's gonna worry about, I will say really quickly, Dan,
we talked about if Lane kiff is not available, if
they lose this game, very bad loss without your head coach,
(35:35):
and there's gonna be a ton of two loss teams.
I think you can absolutely make the argument that if
they lose this game and Kiffen leaves, you could make
the other Now, I guess they have the head to
head win over Oklahoma, which could hypothetically be a ten
to two team as well. I think that should change
the committee's perspective if they were to lose this game.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
But yeah, different scenario if you're talking about a one
loss versus a two loss team. Oh yeah, if they lose, yeah, yeah, yeah,
they're firmly in the bracket right now, and with a
twelve team bracket. Again, it's different from the other situations
we talked about. All Right, you got other stuff, Manci Yeah,
I got.
Speaker 9 (36:09):
A quick one here, really quick one. The jersey worn
by Jacoby Brissett last Sunday when he set the NFL's
all time single game record with forty seven completions is
now on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame
in Canton, Ohio.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
All Right, maybe this starter next year for the Arizona Cardinals.
I know, Iowa Sam doesn't think that after yesterday's a
game that we played. But I'll tell you what, it's
making it less and less likely that Kyler Murray's back
is the starter for Arizona and they have a chance
to beat the Jaguars this weekend.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Does Arizona without Marvin Arison Junior? Crazy? Did that last week? Crazy?
There's your Cardinals football bite.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Shador Sanders may or may not go to can this weekend,
depending on how he plays. So oh wow, No, I'm kidding.
That's how people act if he does.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
If he plays well, though, And that's the press they
get out there and press.
Speaker 8 (36:59):
That was the press.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
You and Jamart Saturday nights, and you and I on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
And we'll be back on Thanksgiving for our annual friends
Giving next week. Doug Gottlieb will be back sometime soon
as well. He's Aaron I'm dan talked to next time
here on Fox Sports Radio.
