Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio? Coming to you from
(00:23):
beautiful Green Bay, Wisconsin. Got a big Thursday night, Thursday
night football game for you. Got traditional rivalry right in
that traditional rivaly Bill's Dolphins. Good right now, Sean Merriman
(00:44):
will join us, and twenty five minutes you'll here for
Ben Johnson. We got the press. We've got a good
show for you. But this is kind of cool. It's
not kind of cool, it's really cool. I what I
love about our show is that we have legitimate sports
fans on our show. And while you may say to yourself, like,
(01:06):
what do you mean, like everybody who does sports radios
are a legitimate sports fan, like somewhat you know, do
you go to events? Do you go to golf golf tournaments?
Do you go to baseball games? Do you go to
NBA games, Do you go to NFL? Do you go
to college football games? Do you go to those games?
(01:27):
You know, do you go to those games or not?
And if you just passively watch on TV and make comments,
it's really hard to feel like, you know, it's hard
to relate to the people that are listening to you.
I feel like people that listen to our show are
(01:48):
sports fans. That doesn't mean you have to go to
every game, but you do go to gag games. But
even when you don't, it's like, we have to be
able to touch the people that we're talking about and
the people that are listening just to believe. And you
would be surprised at how few people in my position,
(02:08):
in Dan Bayer's position don't do that. Don't do that.
So that Dan Buyer course, we've been together since I
started Fox Sports Radio and he's a gigantic sports fan,
so he somehow came up with it. You know, I'd
really like to go to Orchard Park to see the
(02:29):
Bills old stadium before they knock it down and move
into the new one. And Jay Suh's like, you know what,
I want to do that, So they went together. Just
can't wait again on the road again, buyer. How are
(02:49):
you hanging since that red Eye?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
We are doing all right, Jay Stu is just out
of his slumber. I took a little bit of a
pregame nap and Doug, we are ready to do this
tonight at high Mark Stadium. We are ready to go.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yeah, you're you're fired up for this? Okay? First, what's
the weather like?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Beautiful Chamber of Commerce day, hemps in the high seventies, sunshine,
short sleeve shorts, the whole deal. Beautiful day to be
in Buffalo, in the Buffalo area, So no complaints whatsoever.
Safe to say weather will not be a factor tonight.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Uh is it a George day?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
There may have been a pair of georts at our
first wing stop of our trip that we have seen you.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
You went to wingstop?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
No, we went to a wing place.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
What's the place called?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
So the wing place that we hit was actually for
those that may follow Barstool and Big Cat and their
travels to Buffalo, they loved a place called wing Nuts,
and wing Nuts is right next to the airport, so
it was perfect for us to hit wing nuts immediately, Doug,
(04:12):
what I mean immediately? Jason and I walked in at
like ten fifty nine. Our plane landed at ten, We
got our rental car, we got the luggage, everything slid
in and we sat down and it's a day. And
you know this for living in Green Bay, everybody is
wearing their Bill's jersey. Whether you're at work or just
(04:33):
getting ready for the game tonight, people are already wearing
their bills shirts, their Bill's clothes. So we were ready
to go right as it opened eleven o'clock. That down.
It was magnificent, but truly like there are things that
are hypes, Doug, but this is like to start off
with that for our trip. I mean, I can't wait
for the for the next twenty four hours for what
(04:53):
we're going to have. Okay, amazing.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Just quick question when you went to what kind of
wings did you get?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
So there are a variety of options. We got the
bone in of course, because that's the big it's no bonus.
We did get some bonus on the side, but we
went there for the main, the main ones. They had
their own sweet and savory sauce, their own special signature sauce.
(05:23):
So it wasn't like a true buffalo, very sweet, very tangy,
very delicious, so much so I even bought a bottle
to take home with me. That's good sauce. This good
tough than that it is?
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Well, okay, give me the run of the day. It's
now four h six local game starts at like eight forty.
What's the plant?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
So now we are, we are at the hotel, we
are about to venture down to High March Stadium, and
we figure if it's going to take us about hour
to two hours to navigate everything, do everything part and
then it's just let's survey the lot. Let's see these
parking lots, let's see this ailgates.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait an hour to
two hours to survey, like to get there? How far
is the stadiumrom.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Where you're staying, So it's about well because of traffic
right now, it's saying about a little over an hour
to get like to where we need to get to
just because of backups. So if we leave now after
this call, we'll get down there at about five fifteen
and have a good two and a half three hours
of pregame of able to check everything out to kick
off not till eight fifteen Eastern that I'm taking some
(06:33):
getting used to for those of us that don't live
in the Eastern time zone. But that's that's that's the
plan right now.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Wait, so how far outside of downtown is the stadium?
Speaker 2 (06:43):
So it's south of downtown, and we're staying we're actually
staying a little north of the city. We're actually staying
more near Niagara Falls. And then tomorrow we're going to
be doing get married. We're going to get married tomorrow
and at the Fall. So tomorrow, because we're in for you. Tomorrow,
(07:04):
we're gonna be going to one of our great affiliates
out here in broadcasting the show that's near the hotel,
so we'll be able to do that and have a
lot of fun. But yeah, so it's about we've got
about an hour drive to go. I think we've planned
this pretty well, and can we get in about our
two in of the the tailgating venture and then you
shit in the magnificent seats that you were able to
(07:26):
score with us. I was. I sat next to a
Bills fan on the way to Buffalo, and I just
I didn't want to brag on where we were sitting
and took all of my might to not ask the
person next to me, who is also going to the game.
On where there's some twur, but we will be right
behind the Bills bench forty rows up fifty yard line
(07:48):
or some Thursday night football to kick off Week three.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
I started the show talking about this game, and it's interesting.
It's like we do all love the story of the
guy that doesn't have all the physical traits, right, Like, well,
you know, we always try and say physical traits are overrated,
but it's kind of what this is a case of,
(08:13):
right Like Josh Allen, he has character, he's a leader,
he's become more accurate, but the physical traits are just
jump off the sheet at you or just jump off
the screen when you're watching it, as opposed to Tua.
And Tua has all the things you want, he just
doesn't have the physical traits. Is that a fair way
of looking at it.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yeah, I mean I just think Alan is such a
freak as as he is, and we knew that. We
knew that coming out of college. That was the question.
It's why he fell. And I'm using air quotes, but
why he wasn't the first or second overall pick because
there were questions but the rocks Allen stuff that you
(08:52):
you know, you can't coach. It is obviously there. The
great thing about this and just the sense and the
short time that we've been here is I mean, I Doug,
I've seen probably fifteen bills Jersey. Now we've seen a
lot of different shorts, including one jersey that I just
sent out a tweet, absolutely magnificent. But out of those
(09:15):
fifteen bills jerseys, I saw one Khalil Sekir and I
saw fourteen Josh Allen jersey. And so what didn't what
I didn't understand and now I feel I have a
little bit of better understanding of is not only Josh
Allen the player and how he is, but it's like
what Josh Allen means to this community and what he
(09:38):
means to this franchise, what he means to this city,
what he means to this area, because not every player
does that. There's so like now when we look in
the future, when we talk about Buffalo, we're going to
be talking about Josh Allen, just like I think we
do with Denver in John Elway. Again, I don't think
you could do that with every single team, but so
(09:58):
Alan with the physical traits, magnificence, but even just to
see like how much of a role he is and
who he is, and he's their star and their star player.
Pretty amazing in just the short time that we've been here.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, what
is the what is the piece of clothing that you
have to are you? Is it a bobblehead? Is a jersey?
What do you bring it home?
Speaker 2 (10:25):
I'm I'm open to everything. I don't know if it'll
be a bobblehead, but I probably won't be a jersey.
But I'm not opposed to a Bill's hat. I'm not
opposed to a Bill's shirt. Jason Stewart, are you looking
for any sort of gear while we're here at the
game tonight? He says maybe, He says maybe, but probably
(10:45):
it's not a maybe. It's you know, they got some
really sharp hoodies, like a Royal Blue hoodies, but I
think sometimes Royal Blues helped to pull off. If they've
got something in red that may be more my style.
But maybe a nice lightweight red hoodie. If I can
put one off, there you go.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
He's Dan Byer. You'll see him tonight Thursday Night Football.
If you're in Bill's mafia, hit him up on social media.
He'll come over chug a beer jump off the table. Uh,
during your tailgate. That's that's what he's sag check.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Let's check out the tweet that I just said. I
take doing it of like this is the first jersey
that we see within an hour of touching down in
Buffalo again, there were fourteen Josh Allen chick Oh, it's awesome.
I was so excited for tonight.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Ain't no thing but a chicken wing. Uh, thanks so
thanks so much, Dan, enjoy the night, Bud.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Thanks Doug.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
All Right, Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.

Breaking news from Fox Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers have
just announced that three times Cy Young Award winning pitcher
at Clayton Kershaw will retire at the end into the
twenty twenty five season. Kershaw will make his final regular
season start at Dodger Stadium tomorrow against the San Francisco Giants.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Doug, that's crazy, right, interesting timing, really interesting timing to
announce it. I mean, not that it's a huge surprise,
but Clayton Kershaw is going to retire at the end
of the year. The LGX Boom Bounce is the portable

Speaker 1 (13:35):
It's a Doug Gottlieb show Fox Sports Radio. So Clayton
Kershop has started twenty games this year, He's ten and
two with a three point five to three ERA, Like
that's it's crazy. The longevity of his success, longevity, especially
of his regular season success. Uh, this is a This
(13:57):
is a guy who He's won three Young's and finished
the runner up twice over, finished in third for the
cy Young another time, led the NL in er early
in his career, four consecutive years, five out of seven
years for a lifetime. I mean, think about this. This
(14:19):
is how baseball has changed. Right, So he's in his
what is this his seventeen eighteenth year, He's only won
two hundred and twenty two games. Now only right, but
still again for Major League Baseball as the best pitcher
of in the regular season of this era. He's only
(14:40):
won two hundred twenty two games with a two point
five to four ERA two point five to four ERA.
So here's the question. Yeah, here's the question. What do
you guys think his playoff eer is? Without looking eila,
(15:00):
what do you think his playoff eer is?
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (15:02):
I already looked. But even if I didn't already look,
I would say not as good.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Okay, over five, over five? Yeah, yeah, it's four point
four nine, four point four nine. Now there's only what
thirteen starts in there? Thirteen starts fourteen point four nine.
Now he does have two World Series titles, right, the
(15:29):
COVID year one and last year's so four point four
to nine era. So I guess the question is, how
do we characterize if he retires this year? Obviously they
win a World Series, that's better, right, that's probably better
for everybody. He doesn't win a World Series? Well then
(15:51):
what then? How do we how do we describe it?
How do we discuss it?
Speaker 5 (15:55):
What is his?
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Is he forever the And it's interesting when we were
when I was at ESPN, we called him Clayton Manning
because like Peyton Manning, unbelievable in the regular season, some
people call him the goat, not the same guy in
the postseason. Now I can make I can explain it.
Some people call an excuse, where I say, look a
lot of it. He was just frying himself with innings.
(16:21):
You know, they don't make the playoffs, they don't make
all of those playoff runs. If not for Clayton Kershaw
in the regular season, so in the postseason stands the
reason he's a little fried, right. This is a guy
that in his prime was throwing two hundred and thirty
plus innings. Two hundred and thirty plus innings, So yeah,
(16:43):
you're gonna be a little bit worn down when you
get to the playoffs. But there's just been such a
disparity between playoffs and regular season. I would, I would
say he's the best regular season pitcher of the of
the twenty first century. That's how I would, That's how
I did. And he's sort of reinvented himself and he's
(17:06):
become an unbelievable pitcher after being both a pitcher and
a thrower. He is super unique. He has stayed with
one team. He's pitched well and pitched poorly in the playoffs,
and most of the pitches most of the times he's
gotten lit in the playoffs is six inning plus when
fatigue sets in. I don't think he had the best
stuff of this era, but that doesn't ever make you
(17:27):
the best picture of an era. Iido, how you how
would you describe Clayton Kershaw to the to the layman
that you know twenty years from now never saw his career.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
You actually gave a better analogy than I originally had,
because I was originally going to say John Elway. Because
Elway carried the Broncos through most of his career, single handedly,
dragging them to three Super Bowls, they couldn't get over
the top, and then at the very end and it
(18:01):
was the rest of the team that finally caught up
with them. And Terrell Davis was the guy who got
the MVP when they won the first Super Bowl, and
then the next year he didn't have to carry the
team again. He rode off into the sunset. But you're right,
I actually think Peyton Manning is a better analogy. I
think greatest regular season pitcher of his generation right now
(18:22):
is pretty apt because what we say is his signature
postseason moment. Just offhand, I would say the deciding game
of a divisional series at Washington. I want to say
it was maybe in twenty sixteen he came out of
a bullpen to get out of a jam in the
bottom of the ninth inning of a deciding game. Other
(18:44):
than that, up to now, going into this postseason, I
might say that that's it. But that being said he's
still an automatic first ballot Hall of Famer and saying
you're the greatest pitcher of your generation. In the regular season,
It's nothing to slow chat.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
It's a Doug Gotlieb Show here on Fox Sports Trading.
All right, more on that to come, Plus we'll get
you ready for tonight's Thursday Night Football. Thanks for listening
to The Doug Gotleeb Show podcast. Be sure to catch
us live every weekday from three to five Eastern twelve
two Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. Find your local station
for The Doug gotleep Show at Foxsports Trader dot com,
or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app
(19:22):
by searching FSR Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Sean
Merriman joins us, of course, everybody knows lights Out. Lights
Out was the rookie of the year, lights Out spending
all Pro and lights Out kind of have to spend
some time with this year. On The Doug Gottlieb Show
on Fox Sports Radio, Sean, what do you think? What
do you think of the Chargers to an O start?
Speaker 5 (19:44):
Yeah, I mean, look, obviously I don't want to be biased,
but I've been kind of preaching this the whole off season.
You know, I'm more surprised at other people surprised right
from the same team that that Jim Howball took from
run the sailing five or six one team and took
them to the playoffs. So what do you think is
going to happen the following year? And there's more so
(20:08):
people talking about Kansas City wasn't as good. Kansas City
City is still a really good team. Is just the
charge the better? I really believe, And I've always been
saying this the whole all season. I thought they were
going to win a division.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Yeah, I've thought they would too. But it's just it's
going to take people while to buy into the fact
they're really this good. And then we'll see how they
how they hang out with how they play with some
of these injuries. As you lose Khalil Mack and for
a period of time we don't know how long, at
least four weeks, how does that affect their defense? What
about the Packers? Uh, Micah Parsons by the way off
(20:43):
the injury list for first time since he's been a Packer.
They're too and oh but both home games. How big
a believer are you into the Packers?
Speaker 5 (20:51):
I mean a big, a big believer. And then you know,
as far as Micah, he's going to go out there
and make his plays, right, He's going to go out
and do what he do what he does. But look
at those plays he makes, and look at the rest
of the sidelines and what he the morale he's doing
for that team. To have a guy like that out
there that can be a game change and turn plays
around at any given time, it makes that whole entire
(21:13):
team better.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
I remember his.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
First sack that he had this in his first game.
You look at that sideline, them dudes are going crazy.
I mean, it's just he brings that level of intensity
and excitement across the board man And you know, of
course Dallas is not gonna look good right now unless
one of those draft extra draft picks they got turned
out to be something. But Micah is single handedly can
(21:35):
can help these guys get to the playoffs this year.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
And further, okay, we're watching the Dolphins tonight. They've got
some dysfunction. Uh, they got some issues there is it fixable?
Speaker 5 (21:50):
In my opinion, I don't think Mike mcdone, Mike McDaniel's
making through the season. I don't I don't see him
making it during the season. I think to Tyreek Hill,
by week three or four, whatever the trade deadline is,
is going to be on the trading block, and not
because he can't play. It's just that I think there's
so many problems that on that team right now that
they're going to be looking to get something for him
(22:12):
while he's still you know, kind of a point of interest,
right because if you can if you let this season
keep going on and there's so much dysfunction, Mike McDaniels
go out there. You don't let Tyreek. He'll go to
a team, but we can go out and win. His
value is going to go down after the season. So
I in my opinion, I just don't see Mike McDaniels
making it through the entire.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Season, all right, And then what about the Bills?
Speaker 5 (22:38):
Is this the year it has to be? Look, every
great team, when you got a really good team, you
got about a three or four year run, and that happened,
you know, it was us from the charge of two
thousand and six twenty ten, the leaders of doom, leaders
of boom back there. The Bills now have been really
good for the last three years, so they have an
(23:00):
of the year or two max before that team is
you know, it breaks up. You know the GMS and
front office office and defensive coordinators might be taking jobs
somewhere else. I mean that it don't look like a
different team if they don't make a run now, so
right now, shot to go get one.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
I agree with you again, but they have to actually
do it. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. Lights Out, Joinings, Sean Merriman, Sean Rams
are two and O kind of under the radar, right.
I don't know if it's people worried about Stafford's back,
but Stafford's been really, really good. The the the unspoken
part is their defense, and they revamped their defense, lost
(23:41):
Aaron Donald and gotten even better as a group. What's
their ceiling.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
It is?
Speaker 5 (23:46):
And you know what, sometimes you rather be that dark
horse in this whole thing, right, I mean, here we're
talking about the Packers. I think the Bucks are really
good this year. You know, there are a couple of
Chams that's getting a lot of eyeballs. But you rather
beat the Rams that no one's talking about. Because team
people are gonna take him lightly. And as far as
Matthew Stafford Man, He's probably no, he is. He is
(24:08):
the toughest quarterback in the National Football League. This dude
plays or anything. He used to get lit up, all
kind of injuries, played through with the Lions. So if
there's any concern there, I don't. I don't think that
people should be.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Yeah, I know, it's just as back was so bad.
I just kept him out for such a long period time,
and I think that's what that's the people we're concerned about.
What do you think of Brady being in the coaches
box but also being a broadcaster for Fox.
Speaker 5 (24:32):
It's it's so overblown. I mean, the whole the whole
days of somebody sharing information and going to a production meeting.
You know, people just don't. I mean you've been You've
been at plenty of production meetings, and I have nobody's
sharing secret information, Like hey, by the way, when I
was up in the box, I heard this. That means
you got ten people sitting in there, from your producers
(24:53):
and directors and and you know your stat people. You
think that if he's sharing privileged information in there, somebody's
not gonna come back and say, hey, by the way,
Tom gave us some information right, It's just it doesn't
make any sense, and so I just think that people
are just blowing that up, way, way, way too much.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Be sure to catch out lights Out Extreme Fighting twenty
seven this Saturday, September twentieth, live from Thunder Studios in
Long Beach, California. Stream the fights live on lights Out
Sports TV starting at eight pm Eastern Time five pm Pacific,
or come and check out the fights in person in
Long Beach. For tickets and information, go to lights out
xf dot com. Biggest fight this weekend is.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
What probably our main event, Tyrrel Fortune. Made's the number
one powerful pal heavyweight right now out. I'm hoping to
keep this guy for another fight or two, but I
think that if he go out and put on a showcase,
he'll be taking off to the UFC. If he doesn't
sign a contract right after the fight, He's like on
that level. We got a couple guys, take Babul his car,
Drake Floors, Devin Simmons. We got the next up and
(25:55):
coming superstars in the sport. And look, if it gets
to the chance those guys get a shout at the U,
I'll be waving them off and tell them I'm not
matching that pace, so good luck.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Yeah, it's it's just fascinating kind of that how you
how you build these guys up, root for these guys
and then want them to get to that next level.
It's really really fascinating what you guys have been able
to to to make with lights out Extreme Fighting twenty seven. Again,
that's this Saturday in Long Beach at Thunder Studios. Last
(26:29):
thing here, Sean, thanks so much for making us part
of your day. Philadelphia two and oh again. But the
offense is just now they've made an offensive coordinator change,
and they do keep winning and they're beating good teams,
but is it can they sustain winning if their offense
doesn't get on track?
Speaker 5 (26:48):
What we've seen this before, the out of them, we've
seen them the straight past. What two seasons ago. I mean,
they should have lost probably six or seven games, scraping by,
and they end up, you know, with a great season.
It's going to take some time when you got a
new offensive coording. We're seeing it with the lines, We're
seeing it with multiple teams. When you have that big
(27:10):
of a change or drastic change, everybody has to get comfortable.
And it's just way too early for them to be clicking
on all cells, and they may'll get it together because
their core, their nuclears. They got a good run, they
got a great running back, they got a great quarterback,
they got receivers, so they can skim by until they
figure it out because they got talent. So I don't
think that's a panic button yet with them at all.
Speaker 1 (27:30):

it live okay on lights out Sports TV starting at

Speaker 5 (27:45):
Time, Thanks man, Thanks having men all.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Right, Stug got lib show here on Fox Sports Radio.
For forty years, Tyrek has been helping customers on the
right tires for ol ont and where they drive. Ship
Pass and free back by free Road has protection with
convenience stallation options like mobile tireanslation tyree dot com the
way tire buying should be. Did Ilo did you see
that Wafford basketball story?
Speaker 3 (28:04):
I was literally just looking at it.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
Yes, Okay, if you could read it, I will, I
will explain what's really happening here.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Oh I'm actually rather looking forward to that. So my
summary of this six Wafford players suspended for the NCAA
for receiving impermissible benefits. Uh, the players had housing arrangement,
(28:32):
but the housing arrangement fell through.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Okay, so here here's what here's what happened. Okay, they
took transfers in Wafford. I think most of the kids live
on campus and they have upper classmen housing on campus.
The players didn't get upper classmen housing. They got underclassmen housing.
So so the coaches, they they all went and signed
leases to live off campus, and the coach let them
(28:59):
keep their on campus dining card, which they they should be.
I mean, I don't know if they're getting an a nil,
but you can actually cover that or give them money
for right, I'm reporting the story correctly. Might not, yes,
And so they fired the coach like a week and
a half ago, like we start practice Monday. They fired
(29:20):
the coach, fire the coach, and now they come out
with these allegations of NCAA and and and so what happened.
Here's what happens is anybody who doesn't have any idea
what's going on at Watford sits there and goes like, wait,
it's an NCAA violation for eighty six dollars for a
(29:43):
meal card? What the heck is going on here? Right?
That that's how it reads to you. Is this not correct?
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Between eighty four dollars and one hundred and eight dollars?
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Right? And and so what's really happened? This is not
about the NCAA, about nca rules. Yes, are there are
there NSAY rules which are comically dated and this is
probably one of them. Yes, because I can give a
player through Revshare as much money as I want. I
(30:13):
can give you know, we don't have the REV share
of the power for but you can give Power four schools.
You can give revshare. You know, if you get biggie
schools get five million dollars, you give five million dollars
to a player one player if you'd like, No problem,
plegal Okay, but you can't you can't pay for their
on campus dining if they live off campus. That sounds crazy.
(30:37):
So it's in our cane rule okay that you can
easily work around. This is simply Wafford trying to get
out of paying their former coach. That's all it is.
This is an outgoing athletic director who obviously had some
sort of personal beef or maybe the coach just completely
disobeyed exactly what he told him to do, and he
(30:59):
used that to get the the energy towards firing him.
So they fire him, and they're like, okay, well you
want to fire us, you got to pay us the
entirety of the contract. The only way out of those
contracts is to fire you for cause. This allows you
to fire somebody for cause, you know, and then they're
basically going to do the Donald Trump sue me, sue me.
I mean that's what happened with Jimmy Kimmel, by the way,
(31:20):
just so everybody's aware right that that, I'm sure, what
is it something Star, Next Next Star or whatever that's
pulling you that threatened to pull him off. I mean
basically it's anybody who said anything that they he didn't like.
He just sues, right, CBS and Paramount, and he sued them.
That's why their merger took so long, and they paid
(31:40):
him some amount of money or whatever, but it's really
just kind of to go away. And so I'm sure
Next Star is sitting there going like, we got threatened
to sue, we got to do something otherwise we're going
to get sued because even if you win, the suit
still cost you all your late, your lawyer fees, and
you know, you keep loading up the court with people. Well,
it's going to get harder hard to win these suits,
even when it's not on merit. But this is very
(32:04):
obvious to me that it's an athletic director who has
fired a coach and then trying to find some sort
of way in which they can fire you for cause.
Does that make sense? So I understand that we look
at the NCAA as d'arconian, right and that, but you're
not gonna they're not gonna kick a kid out of school.
(32:25):
They're not going to take away his eligibility even if
they had. I'm guessing this is a secondary violation, a
slap on the wrist, a nothing burger. But we're all
taking the bait because it's easy to dislike the NCAA
because you don't know why the rules, you know, some
of them like this one, are dated, and you make
(32:47):
it out like the NCAA is chasing these guys down
for money, when this is all self reported and it's
just simply Watford. My guess is trying to validate why
they fired a coach and then get out of paying him.

Ilo the Press, Isaac Lowan, Cromweny.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Got Okay, Doug. New development in the Los Angeles Clippers
slash Kawhi Leonard slash aspiration butting scandal as today at
six am Eastern time up to be precise. Sports A
journalist Pablo Torre reported that the Clippers made a twenty
(34:04):
one million dollar payment to Aspiration in June of twenty
twenty two. The payment was signed off for in writing
by the Clippers chief financial officer and was made at
a time when Aspiration was struggling for cash, and was
also made two weeks before Aspiration was due to make
a payment to Kawhi Leonard.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
I'm listening Bablo Tori. I doubted with his NFLPA stuff.
After he got done with the NFLPA, everybody resigned. It
just does not It keeps looking worse and worse for
Ballmer and his crew.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
I'm just curious, is there anything out there that he's
either holding on to or saving or will he.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Keeps bringing out a little bit more and a little
bit more. Yep, you know again, I don't think. I
just don't think you go this deep after a billionaire
unless you got the you know, unless you got the
goods on him. And I think he's got the goods
on it.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
What do they say back in the day, the worst
thing a businessman wanted to hear is Mike Wallace from
sixty minutes is in the waiting room waiting to talk
to you. I think Pablo Tory might be the UH
sports equivalent of that. So earlier, Doug, you were talking
about the situation about Tom Brady and the production meetings
and Antonio Pears and the potential conflict of interest. Well,
(35:33):
New CBS game analyst JJ Watt says he's faced some
of that himself as it relates to his bro.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Stop it, JJ Watt. All right, I'll just stop it.
I'll just tell you JJ Watt inserting him the stuff,
stop it. My brother knows playing, so like everybody has
connections in the NFL, JJ, stop it.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Ugh may I read JJ ahead, go ahead a quote.
I faced it myself this week. I'm calling the Steelers Patriots.
Week one, I called the Jet Steelers. I think that
there might be a little more guardedness there knowing that
my brother's on the team, not that I'm going to
(36:16):
tell him anything, not that I'm going to give away
anything unquote.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
That's that's great. JJ. Listen, let me let me let
people in on a little secret here. Okay, if you're
not connected with people in the sport that you're covering
as an analyst, then you shouldn't be doing the job.
You just shouldn't. Then you're just a commentator. And there
are people that kind of get away with doing that
or whatever. But the good ones, you know, like what
(36:50):
are we actually doing here? But jj Watt inserting himself
sort of like, hey, I got a little conflict of interest.
My brother plays for the Steelers, Like, yeah, that's not
the same. And by the way, like the reality is,
I don't think Brady really helps the Raiders that much.
I don't think there. But it's the it's about optics,
and the optics are not good.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
By the way, we do have some audio of responses
that jj Watt and Tom Brady have been getting during
some recent production meetings.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
I'm here, so I won't get fine.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
So I can't get much information out of that. Actually,
actually a serious question. In your first year, for example,
the one of the early games you played at Oklahoma, right,
I mean you think Oklahoma State. Sorry, you participate in
production meetings with these broadcasters as a coach, with the
broadcast crews that might be doing me what nothing? You
(37:42):
don't you don't give them any information or you don't
have any meetings with them.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Yeah, you have meetings. You have meetings with them, and
there's nothing really, right, what's the ship. It's not football.
This is a little bit more game planning. Stept basketball.
Some of it is, but you know it's like if
you haven't done maybe early in the season because people
don't know what you got. But yeah, no, let's see
what's the tapes out there? The tapes out there.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
Exactly forty years.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Tyreck's been helping customers find the right tires for how
witt and where they drive ship fast and free back by
free road as protection with Covenia insulation options like Mulbile
Tire Inslation tyro dot Com. The way tire buying should
be one more ilo.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Yeah. Apparently. Uh, there is a new favorite to win
the World Series this year, and it's not the Los
Angeles Dodgers. A prominent online betting site has just changed
the favorite to win the twenty twenty five World Series.
It is now the Philadelphia Phillies instead of the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Dodge to win last night. But Phillies had won every
game the series before that. Ye, I mean, listen, the Dodgers.
The big thing was the Dodgers bullpen blew two of
these games. So can the Dodgers get their bullpen together
in time? I still I think that's that's great. I'd
been on the Dodgers that makes it even more. But
the Phillies have been awesome.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
And that is the press. Baseball, Wow, that's great out there,
and press, that was the press.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
Okay, Tonight, Bills are an eleven and a half point favorite,
eleven and a half points. The totals fifty point five.
I'm taking the Bills. I think the Dolphins have massive dysfunction,
and when you have massive dysfunction, you get down. There's
not a lot of fight back. This is Doug Ottlieb Show,
