I also feel that the drama over the new NBA
TV contract and the possibility that inside the NBA could
be going away. It's like when they take your favorite
item off of your favorite chain REHD staunt menu. It
(01:02):
is it is, It is so disheartening. It's like everybody
loves this, why are you taking it away? And then
it just it could happen, but hopefully there's a way
to save inside the NBA at some point whenever this
TV deal gets settled. He is Ryan Hollins. Hit him
up at the Ryan Hollins. You can find me at
Dan Byer on Fox. It is a Wednesday, Ryan Hollins.
(01:23):
And you know what we do on Wednesday on the
Doug Gottlieb Show. You know what we do every Wednesday
at four o'clock eastern one Pacific.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
What do we do?
Speaker 2 (01:31):
We get the crew together and come together in a
segment that we like to call the Midway.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
He's not getting it's time for.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
The Midway.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
The Midway's founder is Jason Stewart. And Jason Stewart, if
you want to give Ryan Hollins a little background on
the Midway, how we go about things, and and I
can even then take it from there on our topic
today and how it originated. I just wanted to it.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
It's a middle of the show, and it's the middle
of the week, and I wanted a reason to be
able to call something a Midway. And then I thought about,
why don't we just have like a topic and go
around the room, whether it be like a you know,
give our favorite something, or give a commentary on something,
but just have a conversation. In other words, we're not
(02:22):
just gonna line it up, go one by one and
give answers and move on. We just took conversation. Feel
free to chime in, feel free to criticize each other's choices.
Just have a lot of fun. Brian, That's all I'm asking.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
I don't like Dan's choice, you don't like my joy.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
You don't even know what it is yet. So this
got me thinking for the topic today. And I threw
this out and Jason gave it the thumbs up, so
we're gonna do it. First of all, the Mavericks' uniforms
are so below average and Oklahoma City and there's six
colors that they use for their color scheme all over
(02:59):
the app. Not a great uniform game. Last night in
the NBA between the Thunder and MAVs. It also it
dawned on me, has there ever been a player who
has been as good as Luka Doncic that looks as
bad as he does in a uniform like it is?
It does not make a lot of sense. And to
(03:20):
magnify the point, last night on inside the NBA, during
the Celtics Cavs game, or I think it was that halftime,
or maybe it was afterwards. They showed Luka Dancic walking
into the arena in Oklahoma City dressed in a nice
sharp looking suits. You know, you know, Kenny Charles Shack,
(03:40):
We're all h oh, this is a business trip. You know.
They were. They were ready for Luca to bring it,
and Luca kind of kept in check last night. But
when you watch Luca play in how he dresses on
the court, he has to be the worst dressed best
basketball player we've ever seen. Because the undershirt is the
(04:05):
sleeve is cut off of the right arm, but it's
not even at the seam of the T shirt. There's wristbands,
there's knee braces, there's leggings. So one knee is black,
one knee is white. It is all over the place
with Luka Doncic. So I wanted us to talk about
best looking players in uniforms, like who wears a uniform well,
(04:29):
and maybe who doesn't wear a uniform well? In sports?
You get her that Hollins.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
I think that I'm gonna pay homage to where it goes.
Now people think that I don't like Michael Jordan for
some weird reason. I just we talked about this yesterday.
I don't want to have to goat debate. That's not
what I'm what I'm bringing it up for. But I
want to give Mike his credit. Mike in his era
was so fly that Michael Jordan was timeless. We still
(04:58):
wear Jordan's today. But as you talk about the equipment
Michael with the arm sleeve and then the lex league,
you see Anthony Edwards rocks it.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
That's the Jordan.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
That's where the Jordan comparison's called young bull nos to
put on the Jordan equipment. You put on the little elbow,
the little elbow sleeve, and you put on the legs.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Leave. That's the mj look. Anthony Edwards gets it. Mike.
Mike set the standard man.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
I would also say that I believe that Jordan looked
cooler in a red Bull's uniform than the white. Agreed.
You're with me, Jason Stewart on that one Red and black, y'all. Yes,
there is something. There is something about that red of
the Bulls. I didn't love when they went to the
black uniforms for a time. I think that the white
(05:45):
is whatever. But when he wears the Red Bulls uniformed
even with the old ones when the Jordan was just
in the white letter and there wasn't a trim around it.
There's just something about the way Jordan looks, so I
can I can get on board with that. I actually
think Kobe probably looked the coolest of anybody in the
(06:05):
last twenty thirty years in the NBA of how they
looked in a uniform, and again at tip of the
cap to the Lakers great unis purple gold, and then
even when they brought in the whites, Kobe looked cool.
Changed numbers looked cool. Either way. I think I would
prefer the eights over the twenty four when it comes
to Kobe. But I think Kobe Kobe looked like that's
(06:30):
like a basketball player. When you see Kobe dressed, that
is the ideal basketball player I think in the last
twenty or thirty years.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
When it comes O, I want to know if you
know about this, so take a look and once you
see it, you can never unsee it.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Kobe Bryant were the most oversized jersey ever. It was
It was like a it was dude, it was like
a four or five X teams. So when you look at.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Kobe's jerseys, if you notice, he'd always you see those
famous pictures called you'd be like chewing on his jersey
or you know he's pulling it, He's doing something. Yeah,
Kobe's jersey was so oversized, but it's weird you don't
think of him as having an oversized jersey.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I never would have guessed it because I think, I
don't know. Maybe maybe it's me from the baggy clothes
and my generation and where I am. Maybe that's why
I But even even when like the Lakers kind of
had a more thicker around the shoulders uniform like in
the early two thousands, I still think he looks good.
But early Kobe with the eight bald head, whole deal,
(07:33):
like it just it works. It worked for Kobe.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
I think the opposite of Michael and Kobe, and they
I think they wore their uniform Bess.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
I think the opposite. And this has come full circle.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
This was ridiculous when it was out, and it was
ridiculous ever since, but now it's become a meme and
a joke.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
But TJ. Ford's Buck's uniform.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
I'm looking at right now, it's about five inches off
the ankles and it's ridiculously baggy. I can't believe. I
know that was kind of the look at the time,
but I think even for the time he got laughed at, didn't.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Hey, yeah, it was ridiculous because you're like, how do
you dribble between your legs right? Like, hey, it's like
going through a car wash.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
I remember in middle school we would have contests to
see who could get the baggiest, you know, like like
like like pants and shirts, and I would go get
five XT's. I have five X shirts that are that
are floating around somewhere, and Dan, don't you don't you
look at me crazy? I know you got some five
X and six X cause just sitting around somewhere too.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Bit I'll tell you what I still like when I'm
shopping for gym shorts basketball shorts, like these aren't baggy enough. Sorry,
They're just not. They're not. And now everything is cut
above the knee. I'm like, no, I need them, need
them down below the knee. I'll never change that way.
This is, by the way, not just basketball only, this
(08:59):
is all sports. Because I'm going to bring up a
current player that I also think wears his jersey very
very well, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees, big
guy hing stripes. Yeah, yes, good half on top. I
think Aaron Judge the Yankee pinstripes certainly do help. But
I think Aaron Judge sports a good look on.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
The field in a similar vane. I was thinking too,
and maybe it's it's the oversized baseball player that are
more like football players. But bo Jackson really filled out.
As you know, if I remember, that uniform barely fit
on him, and he looked great. He could have played
without clothes on, but he it just looked amazing. Google
(09:45):
image Bo Jackson Royals and you won't regret it.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
You also like, had the top button kind of un buttoned,
so was he had to He just had.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
To hold on.
Speaker 6 (09:54):
Hold on, guys, I think we're forgetting we're forgetting basketball
royalty here. As far as we're talking culture, it looks
Alan iverson a.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
A Come on, guys, I could never get with a headband.
Speaker 6 (10:07):
You couldn't get you told on? You mean you can't
wear the headband and you wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Like both headman the above like it wouldn't work with me. Man.
I was never. I was never. It was too much
of an accessory.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (10:21):
Dan. The headband is legendary. AI hit the head brand
with the with the four braids.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I know, I get it. Heck Lebron wore it for
a while. I mean, yes, that is not true. That
is not true because I'll say this, you want to
talk about college shops. Alan Iverson in his Georgetown uniform
(10:47):
off the top that what you know about?
Speaker 6 (10:50):
Hey fellas, what do you think about this? One of
the best jerseys ever. Pinstripe Orlando Magic.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
I would go Shack was shocked, but Penny because Penny
wore one in because Penny was tall and lanky, Penny Hardaway.
I'm talking about like it worked, like it really worked
because the one was you know here you have what
six ' nine and you know, tall, skinny kid. It
(11:18):
worked in that fashion. I think there's some in football.
I'll give you a bad one in football. Peyton Manning
in his helmet like he wore some jacked up overly
safety helmet in his later years in Denver. But even
when he was with the Colts, like this face mask
(11:42):
that he was wearing. Peyton Manning was for as great
as he was, did not oose coolness in the uniform.
That he wore like Baker Mayfield. I actually think Baker
Mayfield can kind of pull it off. Maybe not top
of the list. Or do you think Baker looks cool?
He's compact, He's nowhere near the size of Peyton Manning.
(12:05):
Baker makes it work. I think Peyton and his jacked
up helmets made him look weird in the NFL. Who
you know who.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Had a crazy look to me? Or like was always clean?
Speaker 6 (12:17):
Mike Vick, Yes, Mike vic had a Mike Vig had
the look. How about Dion Sanders look good, feel good
to play good man?
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Shout, I proud yea.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
And Dion's the only one who could do that, Like
you could, you know, have his flash with a towel
and make it work. Yeah, but I think the a
lot of falcons black and red help Iowa. Sam.
Speaker 7 (12:40):
Yeah, let's so when you brought up When you brought
up Peyton Manning, I thought of Actually I didn't think
of as a helmet.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
First.
Speaker 7 (12:47):
I thought of his floppy sleeves. Get this though, for him,
the floppy sleeves were cool and iconic. But it actually
made me think before that, it made me think about
to bring it back to Iowa, which I do a lot,
but the Iowa quarterbacks the last three years have had
the big floppy sleeves and listen, nothing epitomized floppy sleeves.
(13:10):
Nothing epitomizes the failing nineteen seventies offense which they put
on the field. Like the big floppy nineteen seventies sleeves.
They looked like Darry bradshawut there but without the winning,
without the offense.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Now that you say that about his sleeves, I think
it does add to it. But just just search Peyton
Manning images in Google and there isn't a time where
you're like, yeah, I like that helmet. Like there are
different versions of the Colts Broncos early days with the Colts,
and they all look jacked up. Heck, even at Tennessee.
I think he wore like a big funky face mask
(13:44):
that should be worn by like, you know, Jack Lambert
or something like that.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
I think Peyton's issue was his genes, Like he just
doesn't have that skeletal structure that's impressive. Like the opposite
of Peyton Manning is d Mattcalf. Like I have a
theory about is that DK Metcalf too. DJ's looks good
to My theory about DK Metcalf is that he wears
(14:10):
uniform and pads so the other guys don't feel.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Beat by the way.
Speaker 8 (14:14):
DJ Metcalf will be performing tonight at KLA in Pasadena.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
Hey, I got I got another one. A throwback, doctor J.
You big the big fan of those jerseys.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Yes, even the shoes right, you know? Yeah, the six
in the seventy six ers. Or are you going way
back like aba new Jersey nets?
Speaker 3 (14:38):
You know, I think I'm going. I think I just
sent it to you guys. I don't know if it
came through, but I'm going with the nets that nets Jersey.
I like that, man.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
I think it juxtaposed against some of the white players
of his time, he looks so good, like Phil Jackson.
I saw a recent picture of Phil Jackson running down
the court, and my gosh, it's either he put no
thought into what he's what he's doing, or what he's wearing,
or that's just he's just a weird looking dude.
Speaker 8 (15:09):
Are we talking about the same picture that didn't leave
much of the imagination?
Speaker 2 (15:12):
I think so. It was at the bottom corner. There
were years where Larry Bird wore a tank top that
made him look like a Russian weightlifter, because they were
it was so thin like that, like the straps are
on the shoulder. It was so thin you need some
thickness to it or maybe maybe even a track star,
you know, like it was just a very weird cut
(15:33):
on on Larry Bird. He didn't necessarily you mentioned uh
doctor Jay and and uh yeah, so that got me
thinking of Larry Bird. Anyway.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
Were you guys a fan of those not this Laker uniform,
but the Shack and Kobe when they when when the
Rick Fox Laker uniforms with like the kind of the
wide shoulder.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, that's why. That's why I thought Kobe because I
think he made that look cool as well. Well I
think it helped I don't know. I don't know if
it helped Shack, but I envisioned Shack in that jersey
when I think Lakers more than anything.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
Oh, they were disgusting, dude, You didn't like Kobe did
make them look good.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Jobe was that good. He made them look good. They
were disgusting though.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
I forget off the top of my head, So excuse me, Ryan,
did you play when they came out with the like
the T shirt jerseys? Were you still in the league, dude.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
I love the T shirt jerseys.
Speaker 6 (16:27):
Now, some people hated them because a lot of guys
have never had something like on their sleeves.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
I loved them.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
In fact, I still have some today, like I have
Adidas kN And what they did is they gave us.
They gave us when I played for the Clippers in practice,
they gave us a couple of the just like shirts
and they were like, just practicing them so you can
get used to them. And the mindset was nobody's buying jerseys.
So if we make the jerseys into shirts, guys like
(16:56):
Dan Bayern might rock them.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Yeah, but they didn't. I'm never I was never a
huge jersey guy. I only have a couple of jerseys
and I really don't wear them. I've probably warn it
maybe like once or twice in the last five or
ten years.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
But hey, hey, question guys want you ah?
Speaker 2 (17:14):
I just by the way, I just got your text. Yes,
the doctor j R.
Speaker 6 (17:18):
Right, those are clean, right the nets if you go
look them up, if you hadn't seen it, if you
are over the age of thirty, is it appropriate outside
of a sporting event to wear a jersey?
Speaker 2 (17:30):
I've I've done it. Not of a current player, but
I did. I did wear it too. I did. I
did have an Ohio state jersey that I wore to
the Rollers Bowl.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
One yere Ryan. If you asked this question, I think
twenty years ago. I think the answer is it is inappropriate.
But it has become like commonplace, Like it's almost weird
to show up to.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
A game without a uniform.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
When you watch NFL games, everybody has a jersey on.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
No, no, no, I mean outside of outside of a
sporting a bit.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Like to work, okay, just to walk down the street.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Yeah yeah, no, no, no, no, of course you can
win for the No no, no, I'm not a scrooge now,
I mean this is no no.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
No, no no.
Speaker 6 (18:11):
I mean like like you're just in the grocery store,
which you're.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah, you're not. You're not catching me. You know, you
know I'd be dead if I walked into work with
a Caitlin Clark Iowa T shirt jersey. There is one way, just.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
Kidding, sick, just completely kidding, completely mean that it's in
the hamper right now, but I'll be going to the
grocery store in that baby, not.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Not a real jersey. The T shirt jerseys I've I've
wore okay with you off. We have Brandon Jennings Bucks
shersey and it was the red. It was the red
T shirt when they went when they had their Christmas
colors for a while.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
Now, I will say this, I'll throw this out there, guys.
I played ten years for nine different teams, and I
will say one of my favorite jerseys was when I
was in Cleveland. There was like an all black throwback.
I always loved the alternates. There was a black like
throwback jersey. We wore one of my favorites. But I've
(19:09):
got I've got a lot of jerseys, man, it's a privilege.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
I've got a lot of jerseys.
Speaker 8 (19:15):
By the way, we have a Ryan Holland's jersey update.
I'm not joking about this. A Ryan Hollands two thousand
and six, two thousand and seven Charlotte Bobcats jersey as
we speak, available on eBay four, three hundred and fifty dollars.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
What is it? A game war pre owned?
Speaker 3 (19:32):
It says, wow, do I buy my own jersey?
Speaker 6 (19:37):
I feel I feel like, well, I'm gonna say it
inappropriate name. Do I go get my memorabilia back?
Speaker 5 (19:44):
I was thinking the exact opposite. I thought the seller's
name was high end rawlins.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
I say, am you abant to wrap this up? You
got something to say?
Speaker 7 (19:57):
Just catching I'm not really into hockey that much, but
just catching some highlights last night. The New York Rangers
and their primary colors red, white, and blue look fantastic.
I think you got the the white, you got the
white sort of outline around the red numbers. And just
like the stripes, the red and white stripes, the red pants,
the blue socks.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
It just it fits so well, looks so good.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Hey, how do you guys rank this? Where does this
one ranked?
Speaker 5 (20:22):
That?
Speaker 6 (20:22):
Nolan Ryan, the the Astros with the color the yellow.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Orange, very high on. I'll tell you who rocked that
really well, Billy Hatcher.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
Oh yes, by the way, notice how Hollen's just trying
to get in the good graces of Houston after his.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
The two sabotage questions from my guys, I mean, my
whole family.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Is doing it to me. Oh that's the midway for
telling midway All right, Hey, we went deep in the
uniform game. Jared Butler is my college basketball one as well.
When he played at Baylor a few years ago and
then won the National Championship. No one looked cooler the
name and he had the newer jerseys, the shorter cut
(21:09):
those are you you were styling? If if you are
dressed like Jared Butler was for the Baylor Bears, He's
Ryan Hollins. Hit him up at the Ryan Hollins. You
can find me at Dan Byer on Fox.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Doug gollib show on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan Byer.
He's Ryan Hollins sitting in for Doug on this Wednesday.
We'll live forth the Tireck dot com studios. Ryan Allins
spent ten years in the NBA, now a member of
the media, but you know he's going to stand up
for his association. Did you hear what Austin Rivers said
(21:55):
earlier this week on ESPN about the NBA in the NFL?
Did you hear about that, Ryan Hollins? I did, okay,
And if you didn't. If you're driving in your car,
if you're leaving work, maybe you're on vacay, whatever the case,
is if you missed it. This is what Austin Rivers
had to say earlier this week.
Speaker 9 (22:12):
We got to get you outside of that football lane, man,
where the guaranteed contracts are, where the best athletes in
the world are.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
That's us.
Speaker 9 (22:19):
I could take thirty players right now in the NBA
and throw them in the NFL. You cannot take thirty
NFL players and put them in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Who on the court.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Let's just let's all relaause you get a break every play.
Speaker 9 (22:31):
I got to just catch the ball and run north
or south.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
An't comp.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Okay, I know he was rivving a little bit with
the Pat McAfee crew. However, are you in agreement with
Austin Rivers in saying that thirty NBA guys could play
in the NFL while you cannot make that same trade
for the NFL going to the NBA.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
One hundred percent?
Speaker 2 (22:57):
And that's because the skill set of why would that
be the case?
Speaker 3 (23:04):
You gotta get specific to player. Okay, Kenneth lofton junior,
you can definitely see him on the old line somewhere,
you cause you gotta think a guy like Kenneth lost.
You gotta think when you get a big fellow. You
get a Glenn big Baby Davis who definitely could.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
Have played left tackle and played football, has a football background.
Anthony Edwards could have been a safety any position he
wanted to. Lebron James Easley could have been a tight
end somewhere. But why would you hurt your knees?
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Why would you do that?
Speaker 6 (23:33):
You have some of these freak athletes that have actually
played football. But see the money in basketball, and when
I talk about some of these big fellows that they
were lifting football weights, these guys would be huge. So yes,
undoubtedly there's a number of guys. And I'm not talking
and I know some of us basketball players are soft
and a football player's mind, I know that's a football player,
(23:55):
a football coach.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
So it's going, what is wrong with this guy? He's crazy?
Tell me Anthony Edwards couldn't play in the NFL. He's
that type of talent.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
You couldn't tell me Russell Westbrook couldn't play free safety
somewhere with his ability and speed and height. Okay, there,
so there's a number of guys. Keep in mind, Matt
Barnes was one of the top wide receivers in the nation. Okay,
Matt Barnes could have been an NFL player. There's no questionnaire.
Go do your research. So there's a number of dual
(24:23):
sport athletes. It ain't for everybody. Roy O'Neill, my guy,
roy O'Neill used to play football. Okay, So there's a
number of these guys that have the background. Now some
of us, make no mistake, you're thinking the tall, skinny guys. No, no, no,
there's a couple of guys in the NBA that are jacked.
There's probably more that I could name or add up.
But we're talking more from a position basis, and we're
(24:46):
talking more of the freak athlete. And we know there's
athletes all over the place that you could just play
some you wanna play baseball, what you wanna play, you
wanna do golf. There's that type of talent in a
number of these guys.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah, I actually agree. I think it's I think it's
a weird argument, and I'm surprised that it is has
gotten the run that it has done. But when you
look at as you said, like the the either or
like you know, Randy Moss and what he and Jason
Williams did in high school was always legendary, but Moss
ends up going and playing football. Julius Peppers, you know,
(25:19):
a guy the Donovan McNabb, another guy who played college basketball,
but yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Played in the NBA.
Speaker 10 (25:24):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure with that, Tony Gonzalez
played you know, basketball and obviously became one of the greatest,
if not the greatest height end that the NFL is
has ever seen.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
But also and that this also leads to the point
though of like of two sport athletes, or of playing
multiple sports as as a youth in that fashion, of
just on how much it can can help you transition.
And while it may be more one sided, it's more
one sided because of the nature of the game of
(25:57):
basketball as opposed to the nature of the NFL. Like
you don't there are very few Dennis Rodmans out there.
Guys just gonna go in there, rebound and play defense,
and there's just not a lot of There's there's no
need for an offensive lineman necessarily to make a transition
to the NBA, right, I mean that's just I mean,
(26:20):
you could maybe you could have you know.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
There's there's a lot more can't so. Randy Moss was
an athlete. Randy Moss is only six ford. That means
he'd be having to play point guard. Sure, you get
what I'm saying. And when you think about NFL, those
freak at those guys physically that are freak athletes, they're
gonna get a shot. And a lot of times you
hear of the guys and it's very common. Hey, the
(26:43):
Jimmy Grahams, hey play college basketball and then all of
a sudden they go over and they're like, I'm just
gonna take a shot in the NFL. And he's one
of the best NFL, but are gonna be the best
tight end easily in the league at that time. So
there's a number of guys that can make that transfer,
but you don't.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
You've never maybe Charlie Ward.
Speaker 6 (27:04):
Charlie Ward's the example on the NFL side, or a
guy that played was Paller okay and played on both ends,
a Heisman candidate, and then all of a sudden he's like,
now I'm gonna just go to the NBA. I'm gonna
do that. But it is rare that you see it,
you see it happen. Now, some of those NFL players
are dumb athletes. They're super athletic, as Cooper.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Cup can win mill.
Speaker 6 (27:25):
Like some of these guys have crazy bounce. Obj's got bounced.
They k' metcalf has bounds. But as far as transferring
over at six ' four, you got to be incredibly skilled. Hey,
shout out CJ. Stroud. He's a dog. Okay, he can
shoot it. He could play some ball. But in the
NBA level, it's the height in the size and then
like it's not something you set down and then you
(27:45):
just pick back up and like, I'm gonna play basketball
at a high level. Football, if you physically have it,
there could be could be if your body is framed
enough a position for you.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
So Rivers is not wrong.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
I'll tell you what though, football and back skeball more
connected than other sports would be in Peter Jacobson, who
played a long time on the PGA Tour and now
an analyst, has been doing TV for decades. I've attributed
this quote to him from about thirty years ago when
he said he would be closer to playing in the
(28:20):
NBA than Michael Jordan would be to playing the PGA Tour.
And you were talking about how much Jordan loved to
play golf. And that's to the expertise because golf is
just completely different sport and it's become more athletic throughout
the years. And there are guys who are very athletic
that can play golf, and we've seen the success of
(28:41):
someone like Brooks Koepka. But you're talking about and you
know the skill of swinging the club and figuring out
a way to do it. Danny wood Ed, who had
a career in the NFL, is now taking up golf
and just I think advance to sectional qualifying to try
to get into a US Open. We've seen Tony Romo
trying to play an event. Steph Curry has done it
(29:02):
as well. But to be top top tier and to
play in these events like it's just another level.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
It's more about if your position is physical, are you big,
strong and fast? You can slide into that position. Now,
I was saying NBA player a sliding over and play
at quarterback. So as far as that skill position, you
can't take a gap. But if you're you're playing a
physical hey, Nate Robinson, Okay, Nate rob Like, if you're
(29:29):
if it's it's if it's hey, I'm fast, I'm strong,
I can run. That's something not to say that there's
no skill involved. You can slide over and do but yeah,
you ain't going over and doing golf.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
That's all skilled.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
Like, you're not going like, hey man, I just took
off a lot of time and and just slid over
it and did it.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
This is not happening like that.
Speaker 8 (29:50):
ESPN has just reported that the previously unnamed bookmakers associate
in the Mizuhara Otani gambling scandal that Misu Ohara wired
money to to pay his gambling debts is a man
named Ryan Boyagianne, who is a current cast member of
the reality TV series The Real Housewives of Orange County.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Oh, I know, yes, you.
Speaker 8 (30:16):
Knew it would eventually go there, sir.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Okay, this could be an off air conversation. Why why Well,
I just because I don't think people care as much.
But you'd be surprised. He was a key figure because
he was thought to be a ladies man and I
like to, you know, you know, hook up with a
lot of different ladies. And Tamro is trying to tell
her friend that this guy is no good. Now he's
(30:40):
up to no good apparently. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (30:42):
The report says he has received immunity in return for
his testimony his attorney told ESPN Boyagan is not a
book a bookmaker, or a sub bookie, a term that
I did not even know existed until now. Meanwhile, The
Athletic reports that Indianapolis police are investigating the incident between
Milwaukee's Patrick Beverly and fans at Gainbridge field House in
(31:05):
Indianapolis during the opening round of the playoffs last week.
The Texas are working with the arena to review video
footage and plan to speak with the parties involved. In
Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays with a five
to three victory at Philadelphia this afternoon. The Cleveland Guardians
over the Tigers in ten innings, five to four. Bryan
(31:26):
Rokio the game winning RBI single in the bottom half
of the tenth inning. Right now, the Kansas City Royals
leading the Milwaukee Brewers six to two in the top
half of the ninth inning. The San Diego Padres up
three to nothing over the Cubs at Wrigley In the
top of the ninth inning. San Diego pitcher Dylan ceased
by the way in this game seven innings, no runs,
one hit, twelve strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to two
(31:46):
point one nine. I'm gonna go catch up on my
RHOC back to you guys.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Real Housewives in New Jersey premiere this past weekend.
Speaker 8 (31:55):
Then the Dan's kind of a secret to reality TV
fan around here.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
There are certain houses.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
He threw that out real quick.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
There are certain Housewives franchises that I've taken a liking
to over the last decade or so, and the OC
and New Jersey are definitely two of them. So I
can get you caught up. Although I have not seen
the season premiere of New Jersey yet, is still sitting
there on the DVR along with that Tom Brady roast
that at some point I will see with by at
(32:23):
least year's end, Ryan.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Hollins, That Tom Brady roast.
Speaker 6 (32:28):
Oh, get your popcorn ready, you set the food up,
Sit back and enjoy that one. My mouth was left
wide open when I watched it. I couldn't believe what
I was watching.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Well, Tom Brady is not going to be the only
star athlete that's going to be roasted, because coming up next,
we may have to roast a star NBA player for
being a flip flopper. Yes, for being a flip flopper
that in the press. He's Ryan Hollins, I'm Dan Byer
in for Doug Gottlieb live from the Tireq dot Com studio.
That's next year on Fox Sports Radio. Get your popcorn ready.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
App Doug gottlib Show on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan Byer,
He's Ryan Holland sitting in for Doug today. Dougle me
back tomorrow. So our two day stint is coming to
a close, but not before we get the press from
Aisy Glowing Crown in a bit. And also now it
takes us an opportunity, Ryan, to bring to light. Sometimes
there's things going on on social media that don't make
(33:34):
it to the light of mainstream media. And I'm curious,
do you know about the Karl Anthony Towns voice change?
Do you know about this, Ryan Hollins?
Speaker 3 (33:44):
I think I've heard a little bit about it, But
I think who's my guy to Indiana. Halliburton does it
all the time. Halliburton's the new name.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
He does good. Well. I'm gonna watch tonight if there's
any interviews of Tyre's Halliburton. But one of the things
with Karl Anthony Towns is that he talks in two voices.
He's got a deep voice, but then he's got his
normal voice. Here's a sample, go get him. I really
don't know another way, he explain it. Just take the
shots being super.
Speaker 10 (34:14):
Aggressive, aultra aggressive, and be willing to make a mistake
in the aggression.
Speaker 9 (34:19):
Crazy because after all that, they took him off the
court to put him even closer in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
I was like, you know how they'll do it, bro.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
They asked me a media about you what they really need?
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Because I look it in like we cut that off
for Tomkins, we can, Yeah, that just cut its him.
The point is Karl Anthony Towns, after he goes for
fifty five points his great game, I love it. And
then but then when he's talking amongst everybody else, it's
a it's a normal, higher pitched voice. And it reminds
me of when I was twelve and I called Domino's
(34:52):
for a pizza and they said, uh, yeah, it'll be
there in thirty minutes or less, ma'am. And so then
I'm like, I gotta I gotta start talking a little deeper,
even though I was going through puberty at the time.
But uh, I'm gonna watch for Tyreese Halliburton with this
as well.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Yeah, Halliburn's made well, No, those are those are true.
Halliburns is different. It's similar. It's a high pitch and
it's a it's a low pitch. Man. I don't know.
Maybe they're nervous, they're still excited.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
I mean like Kobe would try to talk like Michael Jordan,
Like he would try to sound like Michael Jordan, but
he wasn't like he didn't have a high pitched voice
like Karl Anthony Towns does. We've had producers here at
Fox Sports Radio when a you know, a big guest
is calling in, it's like, hey, guess what Drew Brees
is gonna be calling in at one forty five. So
(35:40):
the producer will be like Fox Sports radioh hey, there's
a big guest to make. Happened to Canna Worms Dan?
You know exactly what you're talking about? Yeah, exactly, we're talking. Oh,
it's good, it's great stuff. Anyway.
Speaker 6 (35:55):
Hey, I will say no some of you producers, No,
not not you.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
There are producers.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
I will say they do call me for a call
in those voices are a little extra.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Not our guy, not our guy.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
But it's happened before. Are you hungry, Jason? Jason Stewart
is pretty You're you're pretty even keeled, Jason.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
I've been through the wars. There's nothing that's going to
be too exciting for me. But you know what this
reminds me of. Reminds me of that iconic scene from
the original Beverly Hills Cop when the two Beverly Hills
cops approach Eddie Murphy Bunting officers on.
Speaker 8 (36:35):
The second team were the first team.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Yeah, we're not gonna fall for a banana and the tailpipe.
You're not gonna fall for the banana.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
And the tailpipe. More natural, brother should flow out like this.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Look, man, I foll off a no banana my tailpipe.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
See that's more natural. Five.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
I would just do too, lof oh, perfect, absolutely perfect.
All right, here's the price of Isaac gla ground the press.
We'll be on catwatch and Tyreese Halliburton watch the rest
of these playoffs. When it comes to interviews.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
I'd like to see Carl Anthony Towns have a meal
with LSU head coach Brian Kelly after he moved from
Notre Dame. How many voices will go down to that?
Speaker 4 (37:23):
Right?
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Can I just add one thing to this quickly?
Speaker 7 (37:27):
Didn't Carl Anthony Town's way back when say he had
an imaginary friend, Maybe that's just his friend coming out
when he's talking in that higher pitch.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
It's like his alter ego.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
You know.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Well, his friend averages four points and two boards. The
deep voice or the deep voys would be the fifty
point output for Karl Anthony Talans.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (37:44):
You know when I was a kid, I had two
imaginary friends. They would play with each other and completely
ignore me. Anyway, Leading off the press are top story
that just broke a few puppens ago epe me Zuhara,
the former translator for Dodger Superstar show Heytani, has reached
a plea deal with federal prosecutors. He's going to plead
guilty to chargers of bank fraud and to subscribing to
(38:08):
a false tax return. He will be arraigned next Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
This is I think Jason Stewart and I are in
lockstep that we still feel he's the fall guy and
this is the role of the fall guy to take
that the fall guy. All of the evidence points to
Ipe Mizuhara, because that's what's supposed to happen when you
have a fall guy for Sho Heeo Tani. It just
to me, is it's too strange. I know, all the
(38:37):
Tani defenders are going to have their evidence and there's
nothing that we can say except this is the role
of the fall guy, and there's nothing that's going to
change that.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
I mean, dude, that's a big it's a big allegation
right there. But you know, if you are going to
be a fall guy, to take a fall guy for
a really really rich guy might not be the bad
place to take a fall. Now, the truth will be
toted if when he gets out from serving his time's
(39:06):
if he's taken care of, we'll see if that relationship stays,
or you know, if his loved ones start getting you know,
certain money in their account while he's in this slammer
or whatever.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
This this whole thing's been wrapped up pretty quick too, right.
It was just in the end of March that they
were in overseas playing leaving there in Japan great Points,
and all of a sudden, now it's May eighth, and
we're like, all right, we're good here. We're done. It's
just I don't know. Hey, that's the world of major
(39:38):
League baseball. Hollins, it's been fun. We'll do it again
sometime soon. Man, Ryan Hollinds. I'm Dan Byer. It's been
the Doug Gottlieb Show here at Fox Sports Radio
