of things to get to today, including Chris Filika Bear
Bets podcast to give us his picks for the upcoming weekend.
We got a Thursday night football preview. You're like, yeah,
we're rolling now. We got three baseball games. Tigers continue
to lead. The Indians won nothing, as you heard from
Dan Byer top of the hour. Yet Rams Niners will
(01:07):
preview upcoming later on in the hour, plus we can
preview the two other baseball games. But we do this
every Thursday. We usually do it in the summer. But
I don't know I would like it so much. Let's
do it right now in the fall. This is a
Jay stew and Dan Byer production. We don't call it
a throwback Thursday.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Don't call it a throwback throw Back Thursday.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Great year in my life, two thousand and three. What
he got there, Jake.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
I'll take it from here.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Thank you, Doug.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
I'll take it from here.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
So uh, let's see twent this October twenty two years ago.
This October, as the Yankees and Red Sox are about
to play a deciding Game three of the Wild Cards Series,
I thought I would look back on a special moment
in time in this Yankees Red Sox rival and it
included the manager of the current Yankees team. What are
(02:04):
the odds? What are the odds that we would focus
in on a play twenty two years ago this October,
when the manager of the current Yankees is getting ready
to play the Red Sox, Aaron Boone. He hit a
home run that no Yankee fan will ever, forget twenty
five years after Bucky Dent hit his home run against
(02:27):
the Red Sox, Boone provided one that might be even bigger.
Game seven, take All Game two thousand and three ALCS.
The winner goes to the World Series. In the Bronx
Pedro Martinez had been lifted or did he No, he
(02:48):
stayed in the game. That's part of the story. That's
a big part of the story.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Not through that home run. That was what fourteen.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Boone stepped in against Knockleball or Tim Wakefield. As I
get my notes sorted that fourteenth bottom the eleventh inning. Okay,
so now we're I think we got all the facts
straight as I got my notes sorted two thousand and three. Gentlemen,
let's focus on that. I want the listeners to think
about what you were doing in two thousand and three.
(03:16):
Damn Bayer, what do you remember most from that year?
In sports?
Speaker 5 (03:21):
Two thousand and three will always be the year that
Carmelo Anthony and Syracuse won the NCAA National Championship. Oh yeah,
and just to look back at that time, it was
also a tournament and specifically Elite eight game because they
got crushed in the final four It was also the
(03:41):
emergence of Dwayne Wade that year at Marquette. I felt
that Dwayne Wade became a household name. But then that
national championship game between Syracuse and Kansas was I don't
know if it was a classic, but it was a
darn goodwe of two coaches trying to break through and
winning their first national champion and Chip and Beehon gets
(04:02):
his and Kansas would ultimately get theirs with Bill salf
and Roy Williams would get his with North Carolina, but
never Williams and the Jayhawks. So two thousand and three,
when that year outside of golf pops up, I always
think of that final four and Mellow cutting down the
nets for Syracuse.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Doug Head coach of Marquette with Dwayne Wade. Is he
Harbaugh's brother in law? Yes, Tom Crean.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Tom Creane, Tom Crean, No, he's a broadcaster, I think.
So two thousand three is a pretty big year in
my life. Okay, how much time do we have? Two
thousand and three I was my first year I did
(04:48):
full time radio in Oklahoma City, And.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Just to sect that before you get started, don't take
up too much time because I have to tell you
that Ben Curtis and Sean mckeel when golf majors. Okay,
so try not to take up too much time I'm
with your stuff, because I did get to the real
important stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Hold On, hold on, does anybody know outside of Dan
Byro what Ben Curtis looks like? Two first aim guy nothing.
If Ben Curtis was sitting next to me right now
and he's and and he had three noses, I would like, Okay,
I got nothing for you anyway. Two thousand and three,
(05:24):
I was I had a show in Oklahoma City with
Mark Rogers called the Middle of to Day Show I
called games for ESPN and the ESPN Regional and Cowboy
Sports properties. Had bought my first house, about a first
house in Oklahoma City, and uh after Championship Week, got
a call to go back and play in France. Played
(05:45):
with for Cremont Feron loved it. It's the one NCAA
tournament I know. Oklahma State lost to Syracuse in the
second round. They were up seventeen I think at the
first half. But it's one that I have very little
recollection of actual games because I was in France and
you I only saw the championship game against Kansas. Right,
that was the Bonnie Bernstein asking Roy Williams about leaving
(06:09):
the Kansas job for the Carolina job when he went crazy,
and then of course he left the Kansas job for
the Carolina job. Anyway, that year also had Lebron James,
Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Carmelo, Anthony Darko, Milliti's being drafted.
How do I know because that was my d to
National Radio, National TV. I worked for ESPN Radio calling
(06:31):
the draft. Then I started at ESPN Radio that fall,
and then of course late that fall that's when we
had the Aaron Blanking Boone home run and I was
on radio on the time with Chuck Wilson, and I
felt like running around the studio like Jack Buck, I
don't believe what I just saw. I don't believe what
I just saw. So that was a I started that
(06:54):
year living in Oklahoma City, was in Cement, Feront, France.
Actually had was with the Timberwolves in their summer league
like tryouts, didn't make the summer league team, and then
moved to Burlington, Connecticut. All in one year, big year.
We come from France.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Wow, it was the start of it all huh.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah, it was Sammy Wown.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
I can give you my Iowahawke Eyes two thousand and
three recap if you'd like. I was a sophomore in
high school. They went ten and three and whooped up
on Florida in the Outback Bowl. Let's go Nathan Chandler
at quarterback, Fred Russell at running back. They had they
didn't have Dallas Clark, he had left by then. M
(07:44):
I think that's all I remember. Okay, you had golf,
had Matt Roff on the defensive line. One of my
favorite players.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Did Lebron have twenty nine or thirty in his first
game of his career was against the Sacramento Kings. I
remember that it was pretty spectacular. That was in two
thousand and three.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
It was also the emergence of USC right the start
of the Pete Carroll run. Now there was the controversy.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
They did beat up on Iowa the year prior that
they win the Pac ten and then they went to
the Orange Bowl and beat Iowa thirty eight seventeen. There
you go, it's more Iowa content for you.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Thank you for interrupting. What was the controversy there? Dan?
Speaker 5 (08:29):
Well, you had LSU and Oklahoma playing in the BCS
National Championship Game. Sure, so LSU ends up beating the
Sooners in that contest, but I felt that that's when
USC really arrived. And then the next year they dominate
with the National Championship, and then we know what happened
in two thousand and five with Vince Young. But it
(08:52):
felt like that was the that was the arrival season
of USC. And maybe to Sam's point, the win over I, well,
the previous year was the springboard. But yeah, that was yeah,
crazy wacky year in college football.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
NFL football if you remember that was a Patriots Super
Bowl win of the Carolina Panthers in four but the
three season, Peyton Manning was the MVP, and of course,
as was kind of part of the course, for the
most part, Peyton Manning lost in the playoffs, right, he
was the he was. We used to call it Clayton Kershaw,
(09:28):
Peyton Kershaw or Clayton Manning because similar careers for a
good portion of their career.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
And in golf, Yeah, and in golf, aside from Ben
Curtis winning the Open Championship and Sean mckel the PGA Championship,
Mike Weir won the Masters, the lefty from Canada was
your Masters champion, and then Jim Furick finally broke through
winning at Olympia Fields in Chicago. Jim Furick's loan mad
(10:00):
major victory was the two thousand and three US Open,
and Furich had been kind of the guy of best
player to never have won a major, at least in
that category of players at that time, and then was
able to break through in golf.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
I think there was a lot of Jim Furick mentioned
at the Ryder Cup this weekend, right, isn't that what
the crowd and the players were saying to each other? Furick,
you Furick you?
Speaker 6 (10:26):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
I was wondering what song he was listening in his
headphones when he was warming up for that final round.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Well before that, I have a personal, self important story
about Mike Weir. You guys have all played golf.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
With me and Debbie Brett wieh.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
What I said, I have some Taylor Taylor Made clubs.
I went down to the San Diego Taylor Made factory
and they carved out some starter clubs for me. Because
Mike Weir appeared on the Jim Rome Show and his
agent said, after the interview, would you like to get
to fit into some clubs. I said, I love free things,
(11:03):
and I'll see you in San Diego. So the clubs
that I still have, Dan, and you could tell me
twenty two years later, is that a long time to
have the one?
Speaker 5 (11:12):
I yeah, I'd probably switch about. I think he could
only do you a little bit of good.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Well, there's three months till Christmas if you, uh, if
you're looking.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
For maybe even a birthday in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
There you go. But yeah, as Mike whir was getting
ready to win that that major, he was listening to
something in his uh I iPhones iPads, yes two thousand,
we didn't what was it? Yeah, maybe player iPod maybe
was even that early.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Maybe people had like still it might have been m
P three m P three players.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Yeah, yeah, And this is what he was listening to.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
When I'm down.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
This is three Doors down. They no, no no one.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Three doors down wronggo three doors down, sorry, go ahead?
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Number one on the charts for six weeks in two
thousand and three. This is a three doors downs. Uh
maybe greatest hit, most downloaded hit. I know. Dan Byer
walked into the studio, uh, just ten minutes ago and
had it on his phone, like very accessible on his phone.
So it speaks to how popular the song was at
one point.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
Yes, there's there's other three Doors Down songs on my
phone as well. But when you guys asked, I was
willing to pull this one up right away?
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Was it downloaded via LimeWire onto your MP three player?
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Oh? I did the LimeWire thing.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Yeah, I did. Hell ya, I tried.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I tried downloading a few songs on LimeWire with dial
up internet and it took like twenty seven hours to
do like two songs times.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Bringing Down the House was the biggest grossing film.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
Is that right? Reading right?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
I've not even heard of that.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
That's in That's in March. I don't know why I
that's that's that's.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Wrong Steve Martin and Queen Latifa and you made.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
A hundred million dollars.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
I have even heard of that movie.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Lord of the Rings. The Return of the King was
the number one grossing movie. It made three hundred and
seventy seven million dollars. Finding Nemo Finding Nemo made three
hundred and thirty nine million dollars. There's also Pirates of
the Caribbean or Caribbean depending upon your pronunciation. The Curse
of the Black Pearl. The Matrix Reloaded was number four.
(13:37):
Bruce Almighty was five x two X Men United with
six Elf, which my son believes is the greatest Christmas
movie ever. Hey, listen, it's not bad parenting, it's just
a bad decision on his part. Terminator three, Rise of
the Machines was eight. The Matrix Matrix Revolution was also
same year. That's number nine, and Cheaper by the Dozen,
(13:59):
which is a terrible movie, was ten.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
I just want to jump in.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
I usually let you guys handle this, but I did
want to look up what TV was like then. That's
when Joe Millionaire aired on Fox. Do you guys remember
that one?
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Oh yeah?
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Is that kind of the precursor to The Bachelor? Like
in a way like he had a bunch of women
trying to go after a guy who they thought was
a millionaire but wasn't, but they didn't know that he
wasn't a millionaire.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
I wouldn't doubt it if it was a precursor. Maybe
The Bachelor was in works at that point. But I
think that that's a great, great insight. There were a
lot of awful shows like that that came after The.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Wire was the number one show and The Wire is
one of the great shows ever. That was two thousand
and three.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
Well that's what somebody said. According to the ratings, CSI
was the number one show at least in the spring
of two thousand.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Broadcast counted back then, so ratings people watched actual over
the air TV.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
The Wire on HBO. Yes, yeah, so take a lot
of people didn't. That's why CSI out out do it.
By the way, this Joe millionaire guy looks like kind
of like Mark Sanchez, you know.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
Yeah, he's a good looking guy. Absolutely if I was
a B and he was a B. Here's the funny
thing about TV ratings. Monday Night Football was tenth like CSI, Friends,
Joe Millionaire er, American Idol Survivor, everybody loves Raymond, Law
and Order all beat Monday Night Football.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Yeah, I mean, like, look, I think it's a real
thing that people don't realize that the NFL was not
always king, Like this NFL king thing has been what
the last fifteen years? By fifteen well I.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Would I would also say too though along with that,
with what Doug just said, it also tells you that
the only thing people are watching on over the RTV
right now are live sports right like there just not
watching traumas or sitcoms or reality shows. They're watching sports
(16:05):
live and those get rated and then everything else is
like DVR or whatever.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
Right sure, and these and these are also the prime
time shows that you would get. But if you do
look in future years, you see Sunday Night Football at
the top or near the top. Like in twenty sixteen,
Sunday Night Football had a twelve point six rating, So
they're not taking this Sunday afternoon Fox game. But the
Monday Night Football came back in two thousand and three,
(16:32):
there were ten other shows that were or nine other
shows that were getting higher ratings.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
I have a question. Let's bring this, let's bringing this
whole full circle. Who was playing in that game? Dan,
I don't mind.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
I'm not sure because oh oops, yeah, it probably would
have well for your It was at two thousand and two.
Two thousand and three ratings were the ones that I
was looking at. In the next the next year ratings
two thousand and three and two thousand and four, which
again is half the year, Monday Night Football was ninth.
So even even in those ratings with again CSI number one,
(17:07):
American Idol, second and third, and.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
The years two thousand and three. Don't call it a
throwback Thursday.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Don't call it a throwback Thursday. Fox Sports Radio has

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. And uh,
let's welcome in Chris Felika. He has the bear Bets podcast.
You can see him on Big Noon Kickoff. And we
got another huge weekend in college football to discuss. All right, Felix,
Let's let's start with a big game in the state
of Florida. Miami heading up to Tellhassee taking on Florida's
(17:55):
Day See.
Speaker 6 (17:56):
Happy Idol week. Last week we break coming off with
the physical way against Florida. It's a little disappointing to
me personally. I would have loved to have seen undefeated
Miami going to undefeated Florida State. But the Knoles were
tripped up last Friday night in Virginia, which we kind
of warned was going to be a very tricky spot
(18:16):
for them. But I think alarming was just how well
Virginia ran the ball. They threw for over two ten,
ran for over two ten, and now you've got one
of the best free probably units in the country up
front on both sides of the ball. It's interesting to
me that the number really hasn't moved much. It's actually
(18:36):
anything come down from four and a half to four,
which I think is a little surprising. I think a
lot of people are on Florida State this week as
a home underdog to kind of saved their season. But
I think this narrative about Carson Beck and like, oh,
he's lost a sip on his ball. Look at the
Florida game, like they haven't played a game in like
(18:57):
consistently good weather. Yet it was like the rain was
just coming down the entire game. If the weather's fine
Saturday night, I think you're all those worries about fears
about Carson Beck and a wet ball and his armor
is his arm. Okay, I think those will be alleviated.
Miami's better he comes down to. Miami's gonna have to
(19:18):
do something very wrong blow coverages, penalties, turnovers in order
to head out of Decampbell without a win.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Uh Okay, I guess it's a big one because suddenly
Vanderbilt's good a football now and Alabama actually look like
Alabama against Georgia, both coming off of big wins. Vandy Bama.
Who do you like?
Speaker 6 (19:38):
I like Alabama here and this number has come down
steadily through the week. I think a general theme for
the week is I think a lot of these underdogs
could be in a bad spot. It feels like everybody
is kind of on the same group of underdogs. Florida, Vandy,
Mississippi State, Maryland, like all kind of Florida State. You
(20:02):
hear those teams and Mansion, that's a bad thing. I
think what we saw last year with Alabama, it's number
one going to Nashville, affecting them to have a little
bit of a letdown potentially off of the win in
Athens last week. But I think there's a lot of
work in point too with this team that didn't score
in the second half. They did allowed some yards rushing
to Georgia's running game last week. Vandy. It's a complete
(20:25):
turnaround and clark Lee has totally changed the perception of
that offense. But if you look at the schedule at
who they've beaten, he beat it after the s team
you beat Virginia Tech, who's fire their head coach, You Beatleno,
South South Carolina and Leonoracellos didn't play what three quarters
of the game, and then you beat Utah State and
Church Tech. I've got Georgia State rather, I don't know.
(20:48):
I think this is a game that could get ugly.
I'm probably gonna lay. I definitely laid the town in half,
and I might even looked at laddering this up some
more and laying an even bigger number with Alabama. I
really like to tie.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
On Saturday, it's the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. Here's one Clemson North Carolina. What is the
deal with Clemson? I mean, well, there one win, they
trail and have time Detroit.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
I know there's a ludicrous concert early in the morning.
I do know that, but before the game. But this
is one of those games where as a better like
whatever happens to you, you probably deserve. I can't bet
this game for the life of me. Would it surprise
me if if if North Carolina one? Yet? Probably? Would
(21:38):
you look at their offense in terms of yards per play?
I think there's like one hundred and twelfth or one
hundred and twenty in the country something like that. They
really have the quarterback issues. They have had trouble moving
the ball. But I think the biggest question is is
Clemson just meld it in for the season, like you
you're one in three now, whatever the heck it is,
and you all hope for conference title, national title. That's done.
(22:04):
We'll kids start to check out. It's going to be
a major test for Debo and his staff to keep
this team interested in the season. I'm not betting it,
but I am going to watch, that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
You mentioned that people are on the underdogs Florida seven
point underdog at home against Texas. Which side of that
do you like?
Speaker 6 (22:21):
This is? This is one that I can understand why
you would like Florida in this game if they haven't
looked in the stamp on the season. That defense is
nasty and they got some injuries, but they're still really
really good in Look, I don't care what Texas has
done offensively against San Jose State, New TEP and Sam Houston.
(22:43):
That doesn't matter to me. This is going to be
a major test for the Texas offense. Uh, They're gonna
get Wiseman and they're gonna get some other guys back,
which which should help them. But I'm not even sure
they really know what's gonna happen with Arch going into
the swamp on Saturday. I mean, again, the inferior competent,
he's looked book better, but this is a this is
(23:04):
a different animal. This is the Florida defense that can
get after you. That they got a really good secondary.
They gave Miami and experienced quarterback and Carson Deck some trouble.
I could be in I could be in time. I'm
one of those ticking pools or whatever. This week, I
would certainly be enticed to to take the Gators plus
the seven, fully knowing that Texas may have difficulty scoring
(23:26):
points here, but Florida's gonna have difficulty scoring points as well,
because I mean, Djagworth for sixty yards against Miami and
I'm still not fully convinced that his shoulders right.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Yeah, yeah, I'm not convinced to either. I just I
really am not. I got I got one more for you,
because this one, I feel like is is right up
your alley in terms of of lines and Notre Dame
is a twenty and a half point favorite against Boise
State and This is a hard one, right, two teams
that made the college for a playoff, although Boise nearly
(23:57):
not not nearly the same. They lost the South Florida
Big to start the season, haven't really played anybody since.
Now they take on the Irish. The Irish coming off
of dominating performance at Arkansas, but nearly three touchdown favorites
a big number does.
Speaker 6 (24:10):
Feel like a lot in this game. I would be
more interlined to take a Notre Dame team total over here.
I mean, maybybe Boise has some success late and gets
in the back door, but with the way car is
kind of playing the last couple of weeks, with the experience,
he's getting better. Love and price there just they're right
up there in terms of one to two punches in
(24:33):
the running back position in the country. This is a
Notre Dame team that I do think is going to
win out. This is a Noting team that I do
think a ten and two is going to wind up
in the playoff. I could see this be like one
of those like forty two to twenty four type games
where it's never really in doubt, but Boyse is able
to maybe put some points on the board against the
(24:54):
Notre Dame Backups.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
He's Chris Silika bear Betts is his podcast and and
of course you can see him on Big neon Kickoff Fleet.
You're the best man. Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
Absolutely take care of every eat weekend guys.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
YouTube, Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. For forty years,
Tyrek has been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive, ship fast and free and
back by free road ask protection with convenient installation options
like mobile tire installation Tyrie dot com. It's the way
that tire buying should be. I do we got time here.
I want to get in the Shadoor Sanders story. So
(25:25):
if you've missed it, Dylan Gabriel in the starting quarterback
of the Cleveland Browns for their game this upcoming week.
They went to Shadoor Sanders for comment and he mined
basically you know what his answer would be without saying
any words. Here's Rex Ryan Monday morning on ESPN.
Speaker 7 (25:45):
An outstanding coach. All right, but why the hell isn't
he put in Shadoor Sanders. We're all waiting to see
the Shador Sanders be the guy or Gabriel whatever. Something's
missing something's missing with this kid. This kid talks, he
runs his mouth like he's a I could be a
starting quarterback with his arms crossed like this. Get your
ass in the front row and study and do all that.
(26:07):
If I know, the whole league knows. Could be in
an embarrassment that way. You got the talent to be
the quarterback you should be. You should be embarrassed that
you're not the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Now I have my own thoughts, Dan, I know you
have a bunch of yours, and I did not hear
you yesterday, So I apologize. What give me the first
thing comes to your mind?
Speaker 5 (26:25):
Yeah, Doug. And it's actually evolved of it in the
twenty four hours. Not that my stance has changed anymore.
I'm just surprised that the twist it that it took,
because my whole point was yesterday had nothing to do
with should or Sanders. Dylan Gabriel was promoted Joe Flacco's
the number two, and now shoudoor Sanders, instead of just
saying or not saying anything to the media, decides to
(26:47):
do the exact opposite of just whatever he did in
full mime, which was a passive, aggressive move and in
a way making himself the victim to what appears to
be a victim to the words of Rex Ryan that
we just played there. I thought it was just poor
taste and childish what he did yesterday. And now finding
(27:09):
out that people are using Rex Ryan as a scapegoat.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
This is what happens. What happened. No, this is what happens. Okay,
it's great that we're on our YouTube channel. Check it
out at Gottlieb Show if you're already on YouTube. This
is what happens with every athlete, but especially Schador Sanders.
Every athlete who acts like an ass is the person
(27:36):
who points out there acting like an ass becomes the
becomes the bad guy. Okay, if you're making that comment,
then you should refuse yourself from ever speaking about sports,
and probably about business too. But again I'm not going
to get into your business world. But in sports, there
(27:59):
is there There is no precedent for a rookie backup
quarterback doing these things. None. And there's a reason I
heard a podcastsh I saw a clip of it. I
listened to it. It was a former Kyler Murray teammate,
and he's like, look, Kyler Murray is just not a leader.
(28:20):
He's super talented, but he's just not. The difference in
Kyler Murray and he picked out some other quarterback is
he's just not a leader to play the position. It's
not as much about talent as this about guys getting
behind you. The people that are behind Shador Sanders, by
and large are idiots that know nothing about football, that
simply think that it's either anti New Era, look at me,
(28:44):
show your money, or it's anti Dion or anti Flash,
or maybe some think that there's a racial component to it.
Everybody makes up something that it's about that it's really
not about. It's not okay, that is not leadership. I
(29:04):
don't think Jalen Hurts is the greatest quarterback on earth,
but I'm sure I could ask Sam to pull it
and we could get the sound of Jalen Hurts got
pulled at halftime of the National Championship game. And what
did he say after the game when Tua Tongue of
(29:27):
Iloa won the game as the quarterback for the Alabama
Crimson Tide. This was a college kid. What did he say?
And oh, yeah, by the way, his dad was his
coach growing up as well. Jalen Hurts at the time
was so incredibly happy for his teammate, for his team,
(29:48):
for his the guy he shared the quarterback room with.
That's called leadership. Does it feel good?
Speaker 3 (29:55):
No?
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Are you telling the truth? Probably not, but that sometimes
is what leadership is about. He looks like the world's
biggest clown, and the people that are stoking this fire
are making it worse, not better. There is no world
where that's acceptable. And let's not go the well. They
(30:17):
shouldn't make him. They shouldn't make him. I don't even
like Danny knell go and he can hide from the media.
He doesn't have to hide from the media. He's been
in front of the camera's whole life. It's really simple, man.
I'm excited for Dylan. I hope he does well. Uh
you know, starts not as good as we want. But
we're focused on this week. We're gonna do everything we
can to get Dylan Gabriel ready to win the game.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
That's all you gotta say. Nothing else. This is not
that hard. Has a feel, don't feel great. I want
to start. Every player on this team wants to start,
but that My job this week is to get Dylan
ready and then study the playbook and maybe be the
Scout team quarter rerect.
Speaker 7 (30:49):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
It's not Rex Ryan, it's not me, it's not Stefanski,
it's not anybody else. It's him, really really simple, okay.
And he was the one that wore the watch, that
did the celebration, and you idiots were all the ones
that got in line like that. It's so cool. What's
so cool about it that your dad's rich and that
(31:14):
you've had a good college career, so you've gotten a
bunch of money, so you want to flash it like okay,
there's a reason quarterbacks don't do it. They just don't.
It's a leadership position. Everybody knows you make more when
you're great. Everybody knows the quarterback is going to make
more money. Everybody knows the quarterback has different rules. Can't
hit him below the knee, can't hit him above the neck,
(31:34):
can't breathe on him, can't do this, can't do that.
So the tradeoff in more money, more fame, more attention,
easier rules, don't get hit, don't get hurt, all that stuff.
The trade off is you got to act humble. I mean,
it's even better when you are humble, but you got
at least act humble. And he can't do it, and
that's why he can't be a starting quarterback.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
He just can't.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
From forty years, Tyrak has been the has been helping
custom just find the right tires for how what, where
they drive, ship past and free back by free road
as protection, with convenient insulation options like mobile tire installation.

Speaker 5 (33:02):
Just a quick update, Doug from Cleveland. The Tigers have
taken a two to one lead on the Guardians. In
the top of the sixth inning, Dylan Dingler, the Tigers catcher,
hit a dinger first career postseason home run from Masalon, Ohio.
So there's Ohio blood, but he's ruining the day of
the home team. Tiger's up on the Guardians right now,
to to one on the top of the six the
first of three game threes on this Thursday.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Quick pick on the other two Red Sox Yankees that
you got Yankees yankies. I have jankies as well. What
about the Cubs.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
And I'll take the padres.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Ooh ooh, Jay Stu. You Darvish former Dodger pitching against
James Jamison tailon of the Cubs who you like?
Speaker 3 (33:55):
Have no idea. It's a complete coin flip. I don't
like predictions, well do you.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Darbish has not had a good year, right, he's older.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
It's been hurt most of why.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
I mean five and five five point three eight e R.
That's not good.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
I also forgot you. Darwish was a Dodger for a minute.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
It was a big thing when he was a Dodger.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
It was like eight years ago. He pitched Game six
of the twenty seventeen World Series against the Astros. You
know that World Series where the Astros knew what pitches were?
Remember that one? Uh?
Speaker 5 (34:33):
Completely, Yeah, I don't remember anything from that World Series either.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
I like I like the home teams like Yankees and
the Cups. You know what?
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Uh do you know what? What's his face is?
Speaker 6 (34:44):
Out?
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Two vas? Number twenty seven stands for no how many
pitches he knew was coming in the twenty.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
You should sell it at a ball game, but try
to get it out cleanly. Don't get it out, yes.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Twenty seven, Like twenty seven pitches, you know we're coming,
twenty twenty seven pitches you knew? Comic Oh great, such
good rash Docks. It's ray good Jesh tack. It almost
made the cut for a white man can chump. But
they're like, eh, baseball.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
Uh, there's three games in baseball today. There's a game
tonight between the Rams and forty nine Ers kicking off
eight fifteen Eastern San Francisco right now, an eight and
a half point underdog because they are severely limited. No
Brock Party, no Ricky Piarsal, no Juwan Jennings tonight for
the Niners against the Rams, and then e NFC West
Divisional tilts.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
And sneakily Matt Stafford looking elite this year after we
thought it. Maybe he retires becaus the bad back. Playing
at home, although in years past this has been a
Niners home game, should be quite the Niners home game.
I like the Niners to cover, the Rams to win eight.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Ooh, ooh, oh, my goodness, you're leaning right into mine.
So you know I'm four and oh guys against uh
against the spread, four and oh. The last four weeks
I have picked whatever game Colin Cowherd is most excited about.
I pick against that game, and I'm four and oh.
I don't want to tell any of our listeners what
(36:19):
game to bet, but this was set on our network
this week.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
The Rams are now seven point favorites.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
Quy in Vegas here a recently. I said this yesterday
at five and a half, I said this would be
my favorite blazing five pick if I could pick. All right,
we'll wait and see.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
But what you've actually well you've heard Jay stew just
kills it by going the opposite. It's called fading. Colin
Cowherd's big pick.
Speaker 5 (36:49):
Right, Yes, but I didn't know what side he was on.
Was he saying that he's on the side of the rams?
Oh no, he loved it at five and a half.
Dan especially loves it. So this is going to be
a blowout tonight, all right, So you know what's going
to happen.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Niners will win the game straight up.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
On three reports, the NCAA tournament is getting closer to
expanding the seventy six teams in time for the twenty
twenty seven tournament. The twelve game opening round would be
played at two different sites.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Any word on those sites. I mean, look, this is
going to happen. Everybody needs more money and the nca
wants to lock these teams in. And the best way
to keep all the big boys happy is, Hey, if
we have more game, more teams, that means you'll get
more teams in and you get more money.
Speaker 5 (37:36):
I couldn't get past the paywall, but I think it's
stay in Dayton and how about Albuquerque. The pit always
puts on a good show, make it their thing, and
you got to set out west.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
The only issue with Albuquerque is the altitude doesn't always
get it. It can dramatically affect some games. My only
downside Abergride, but incredible. It pits in anybody's top five
to ten. And that's the press. I enjoy the game tonight,
we'll back tomorrow. We'll see who's going to the al
on NLCS. It's the Doug Otlib Show or DS
