(00:26):
The Doug Gottlieb Show broadcasting for the What do we Determined?
It was, Ah, that's right. I think this is the
nineteenth consecutive year at this time, so it's pretty cool.
Got a bunch to get to this hour. As we
get you ready for the first Game one of the
NBA Finals, the funky col Mark Medina will join us.

(00:48):
Wayne Gretzky made a spot on prediction for Game one
of the Western Excuse me, Game one of the Stanley
Cup Finals during the second period break yesterday, Wait till
you hear it. Plus, uh, I do want to mention
that Derek Carr story, which is a pretty good one.
Pretty good one, and you can be the biggest Derek
Carr hater. Then you're like, yeah, kind of seems like

(01:11):
a good enough dude. So, but it is a Thursday,
and you know, on social media they call it, you know,
throwback Thursday. But Jason Stewart is the anti well everything normal.
So what became a Dan Byer idea and then transferred
into a Jason Stewart production, we call don't call it

(01:34):
a throwback Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Don't call it a throwback Thursday.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Okay, So don't call to throwback Thursday. Essentially is a
look back, mostly in sports, but some other places at
the year that was Jay Stewart was the year we're
talking about it.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Thank you, Doug. I'll take it from here. I want
the listeners and everybody involved in the show to think
about the year two thousand. What were you doing twenty
five years ago? You were probably uh, it was right
before learning the term hanging chad. Hanging chad was a
very popular term for a few weeks in two thousand,

(02:12):
but before we got to there. Larry Bird Hall of
Famer Larry Bird, great Celtics player, was the head coach
of the last Indiana Pacers team to go to the
NBA Finals. You forget Larry Bird was a head coach.
You'd probably remember that Reggie Miller was on the team,
Mark Jackson was on the team. Jalen Rose was paid

(02:34):
a lot of money to play for the Pacers and
they but they ran into the first of three Lakers
NBA Championships, of course, the Shaq Kobe three peat. But
we're focused on the Pacers because tonight they take on
the Thunder in the NBA Finals and you're thinking, what
was the last time they played in a series of
this magnitude, And the answer is twenty five years ago.

(02:57):
I just wanted to focus on that and how the
listener think about that for a while. They lost in
six games. I remember if I remember right, and you
tell me, Doug, was that the pass from Shack to Kobe?
Was that the series? Or am I thinking of a
different series?

Speaker 4 (03:15):
It was actually against the Blazers in the Western Conference
of PMS.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
That's what I was. The Blazers in the same.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Year though, Yeah, I believe, so, yeah, awesome, Well.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
There you go. It fits in dan Byer other than
the Shack to Kobe Loob pass. What do you remember
from the year two thousand?

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Can I tell you what I think is interesting because
it pertains to this Pacers team. On my Sunday Show
with Mike Harmon. I compared this NBA Finals to the
Super Bowl matchup we had in two thousand. It's not
the NFL season of two thousand, it's the ninety nine season.
But the Super Bowl again was played in two thousand,
but I think it's Apropos Rams Titans. And again it

(03:52):
was the Saint Louis Rams against the Tennessee Titans. And
it was that season that the Rams were a juggernaut offensively,
but still they were kind of a Johnny cum Lately
team from a town that we really weren't familiar with
because it had just recently got football back five years prior.
And here come the Tennessee Titans, who had a team
that was even newer to their market. But the Titans

(04:15):
were this grinding out team that upset Jacksonville in the
AFC Championship game, and the Titans were on this magnificent run.
And don't you know, kind of a baby blue color
lends into this with the Thunder, kind of the same
with the Titans. So a lot of parallels, maybe not
exactly fitting each team, but guess what, that Super Bowl
was a really good super Bowl. It's one of the

(04:36):
more memorable endings that we have, and I think we're
going to have a really good NBA Finals.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Kevin Dyson, Kevin, Yes, the yard.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Short, Yeah, yard short. I think it was Robert Towns
who made the tackle.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Two thousand is right in my wheelhouse. But I have
a lot going on, right. That was my senior year
in college. Then I played in the USBL in the
NBA Summer League. Then I got married. Then I went overseas,
and once I went over and then I came back,
and then I was in the CBA and the IBA
and EVENTU and called a couple of college basketball games

(05:11):
that year Like that was there was a lot and
not a lot that I can honestly square to you.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
Go ahead, couldn't you?

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Weren't you knocking on the door of a final four?

Speaker 5 (05:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (05:20):
We're the Elite eight. Yeah, And we thought we were
going to play Duke. We'd played Duke my sophomore year,
and then Duke was the top seed. We were I
think the three seed Temple had lost. We played Seaton
Hall in the Sweet sixteen and then played a Florida
team that had upset Duke in the Elite eight. That
Florida team turned out to be loaded with you, Donnis Haslam,

(05:43):
Mike Miller, and Matt Bonner, among others. I think seven
players in that team were drafted in the NBA draft.
We had won, but regardless of that game, and then
they go on and lose in the finals to Michigan State.
But yeah, so I definitely have a distinct I can

(06:03):
tell you everything, chapter and verse about that year. That
was the year that Kenny Martin famously got hurt right
before the tournament and cincinnat I got moved from a
one to a two seed, and I don't know even
how far they advanced.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Yeah, they were, actually they were. Ohio State was a
three seed last year, and that year in Ohio State lost.
I actually think they may have been knocked out in
the second round, Doug, because Ohio State lost to I
believe it may have been Miami a Florida at that point.
But it was also a wacky year because Wisconsin made
it as an eight seed to the final four, like
I believe North Carolina was also an eight seed.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
We're bringing it full circle. Who was the head coach there?
Dick Bennett. Dick Bennett, famous coach here at Greenback.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Absolutely Tulsa beat Cincinnati in the second round seventh seventh seed.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Did Tulsa face Miami.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
And the they lost to North Carolina? Yes, Miami the beat.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
They played Miami and beat them.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Okay, that's what North Carolina and Julius Peppers.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Wasn't that Bill?

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yes, Yes, that was Bill sell last game I think
coach Antolsa and then he went to Illinois.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
At some point. Somebody needs to give me credit for that.
That's not my sho.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
That's good.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
That was good.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
But I also nailed Miami beating Ohio State in that
three to six matchup because that was the year. That
was the final year of Schoony Pen and Michael Red
and I thought that Bracky could have opened up for him,
but they lost in the second round after a Final
four appearance the year prior. Yeah, I just want a
little bit of credit for that, just like Jason wanted
a little bit of credit for the credit.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Will Farnest go on in the room down, Come on,
you can never get credit, guy.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Sure do you guys? Like I have my dog's three
dogs in my house and you guys are just like
that where one comes up it's like, hey can you
rub me? Was like, hey, dude, rub Me and then
I was like, yo, yo.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
What year for golf and what a year for Tiger Woods.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Tiger Woods VJ.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Singh won the Masters in two thousand, but then it
was the pure Tiger dominance, a big part of the
Tiger Slam because Tiger won in overwhelming fashion, the most
convincing win that we've seen the US Open when he
dominated Pebble Beach in two thousand, then went on and
completed the career Grand Slam at Saint Andrews at the

(08:08):
Open Championship, and then followed up with that dramatic playoff
victory over Bob May in the two thousand PGA Championship
at Valhalla. A lot of the highlights that you see
from Tiger, the fist pumping, the walking to the hole,
we're in that match with Bob May and Valhalla. So
two thousand the year of Tiger Woods in golf, one of.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
The rare years in that era. That was the year
of Tiger.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Yeah. Yeah, it never never really happened, never happened too much.
But could have had the career, could have had the
seasonal Grand Slam if he would have won the Masters
in two thousand, but then won it in two thousand
and one, so he held all four major trophies at
one time, hence the Tiger Slam.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
The New York Yankees were finishing off their third straight
World Series title season. I think the ninety eight was
their best of the three, but two thousand it was
their back to back against the Braves for two straight years.
We got the Yankees and the Braves in the World Series.
The Yankees won in two thousand and they would not
win again for another what nine years, eight or nine years.

(09:16):
Don't remember much from that two thousand team other than
I'm guessing Derek Jeter was on it.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Two thousand was the Olympics in Paris.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
I believe Sydney.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Sydney's so I said, two thousand Olympics in Sydney. Only
thing I remember about that was Vince Carter jumping over
Frederick Weiss. That's it. And it was a really hard
This was Remember they had the Dream Team in ninety
eight and then in ninety six. I think they got
beaten ninety six. In two thousand, that was when it

(09:50):
started to kind of get murky for him. But the
Vince Carter dunk reigned supreme is the only thing I
was in training camp with the team in Italy. We
watched that around a bar. We're like, ooh, I've never
seen that before.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
The thing that I forgot about about those games was
that they were actually in September. Yeah, really late, yes,
And I didn't remember that happening. And remember a few
years back when we were talking about the World cop
and it being in November and how crazy it was.
But they were in September of that year, which I

(10:24):
don't I don't even remember that happening in September, but
must have been distracted with football.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
I don't remember anything. I remember very little about football
until until September eleventh, all right, was Sebody eleven of
that year? Was that the next year?

Speaker 4 (10:40):
I was that year, right, September eleventh, two thousand and one.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Next year, Yeah, but I was. You know, you're traveling
back and forth so much. But I you know, one
of the reasons that I didn't have a honeymoon originally
was because we were supposed to go to Italy to
train with this team. And then my agent called me.
He's like, hey, good news, good news. Training cants been

(11:04):
pushedback because the Olympics are so late. Right, Hey, here's
a problem, Like you can't call me like a week
before and go, hey, go play a honeymoon.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
Doesn't work here, you goys.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Quick correction. Our ace producer Ryan Berschinger has corrected me.
You know, the Yankees beat the Mets in two thousand
and I can't believe I didn't remember that because.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
I I Piazza.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Yeah, Yankees and Mets World Series is often confused.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
The Subway Series.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
That we may have played them in two thousand and
one after September eleventh, but it was a year prior
that the Subway Series happened. Mike Piazzo's on that team.
I just remember them asking what Mike Piazzo would he
listened to before every World Series game in his discman,
and he just played this for the reporter.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
Hello, Creed, can you take me?

Speaker 6 (12:16):
Revived by Kirk Cousins playing it in NFL locker rooms,
Creed reborn.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
To think that this was actually a good song. At
some point, it wasn't like played in irony, like we
played to make fun of it nowadays.

Speaker 6 (12:33):
No, no, it was played ironically. Now we're back to
liking it for what it was.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
But in two thousand, movies that year top the charts.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Movies that year, the most watched picture was How the
Grinch Stole Christmas?

Speaker 4 (12:49):
Yes, that Jim Carrier. That was good. That's a good
Holly movie.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Here's how long we've they've been doing Mission Impossibles. That
was Mission Impossible. To the original Gladiator, The Perfect Storm.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
I've seen that one. I love the Perfect great movie,
great cast, perfect.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Story, The Parents, the first X Men scary movie, which
I know most people laugh at, scared their crap out
of me. I don't like scary movies, and I know
that was supposed to be funny. Yeah, Aaron Brockovich was
that year.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Oh, No, scary movie was a that was kind of
like a what do you call horror spoof documentary comedy?

Speaker 1 (13:29):
That was a horror movie. No, it was a scary movie.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
It was a comedy.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
The not so Scary Movie was a comedy.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
They're all comedies. They're all the Waynes Brothers.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
The No that wasn't the Wayne's Brother was it.

Speaker 6 (13:40):
Yeah, scary scary movie franchise. They made like seven of
them or something, made a lot. Yeah, scary movie is
just that's why it's the whole joke is in the.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Name, like scary movie.

Speaker 6 (13:50):
It's like all I mean Sara. I guess there are
slightly alarming, frightening parts, but uh heyes.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Gottleib's favorite sports movie was that year, remember the Titans.
It's a good one. That's a good one. Oh you
know what, maybe it was Scream was the.

Speaker 6 (14:07):
Yes, Yes, Scream is like Drew Barrymore and uh yeah
that one Nev Campbell, Yeah those are Yeah, that was
a legit horror movie. But the Scary Movie franchise just
like playing making fun of all these horror movies.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Hey, we can't.

Speaker 6 (14:20):
We would be remiss if we left Supernatural by Santana
off of this. Uh, because he had two of the
top three songs Smooth featuring Rob Thomas, and then he
had this song.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
And this is one of those albums.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
Supernatural came out in ninety nine, two thousand, good front
to back. Every single song he had, like collapse with
I think Lauren hill Ski what was it, c Low,
I think he was on one of his songs. Just
a ton of ton of great collaborations. This was Santana

(15:02):
featuring the product gene b Maria Maria, good song. Great
album won some Grammys. I believe Mari.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
It was the album of the Year.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
The show Survivor debut, Doug Love Survivor.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
You guys know that's I think the most influential show
in business should be the most influential show at all
of business.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
And of course, could all of us name at least
one cast member from the original Survivor.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
I think so.

Speaker 6 (15:34):
I can only name the guy who won it the
first year.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
That's it. What's his name?

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Richard Hatch Nice?

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (15:40):
The car, remember the car that they got.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yeah, it was like an outback.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
Wasn't under something like it was a It was a
Pontiac was it supposed to be like a Pontiac crossover
Pontiac suv O? And it looks distinctively like the Gadget
Mobile from Inspector?

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Guys, did you know another contestant Sue Hawk?

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Sue Hawk?

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Was she the runner up? She was? No, She was
the one that eviscerated another contestant that I won't say
their name in the tribal council with Sue Hawk was
from Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
That's right, she had the big Wisconsin accident. Yeah. Yeah.
Elizabeth Hasselbeck was not on season one.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Right, No, no, no, I'll tell you my favorite memory
though about season one because I watched survivor that I
left and now we've been back in it for about
the last decade. Was at the end, Jeff Propes asked
who here lost weight, and there was a woman who
was about sixty five seventy that was like the first
one voted out. Her name was Sonya. She was on

(16:41):
the island for forty eight hours, Okay, then she was
gone and she raised her hand like, all right, when
you're there forty eight hours, you're not losing weight like
someone who was there for thirty eight days. But obviously
people slim down when you're not eating for like a month.
Rudy was on there. Rudy Kelly Wigglesworth was another contestant.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
She was the one that I faced now I mean
about him in twenty five years down. Thank you to the.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Final that's who Sue Hawk eviscerated Dan there is That
just made me think of this.

Speaker 6 (17:11):
I forgot the name of the show, but there was
a very popular show in the last five years where
people would try to survive out in the wilderness and
the men with the most amount of like belly fat
would win because they didn't have to worry about eating
as much. They could just burn through their fat, sure,
and then they'd be like completely skinny by the end
of this. Like it was called like a loon surviving
a loan or a loan loan survivor or something like

(17:32):
that kind of just made me think of that.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
That was literally what Richard Hatch said was his strategy there.
He showed up fat and one role.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
What I remember about Survivor was I was in Russia
and I had seen the first couple of shows, and
my mother in law at the time sent us cassette
tapes and we had to be incredibly vigilant. We're only
going to watch one episode because we had like Eurosport

(18:04):
and one other English speaking TV TV channel that was
like news all the time. It was it was one
of the news. It was like CNN, but it wasn't CNN.
I it was BBC BBC. We had BBC and then
we had Eurosport and then there was a BBC that
showed TV shows. So you know, when you get Survivor cassettes,
you're like, oh my god, these are gold. We're like,

(18:25):
all right, we're only going to watch it two days
a week, one episode at a time, and I mean
we you would like now you're like watching episodes. You're
on your phone, you're getting popcorn, you do whatever, like
we were locked in on that stuff, locked in on Survivor,
and that is don't call it throwback Thursday.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Don't call it a throwback thack Thursday. Fox Sports Radio
has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch
all of our shows at foxsports Radio dot com and
within the iHeartRadio app search f are to listen live.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
All right, So Doug Gottliebs show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Cue that music, because that man is walking in the
building and he's important. Mark Medina, our Fox Sports Radio
NBA insider joins us as we are four hours away,

(19:23):
I have to point this out. Mark, this is actually
a real discussion. Buyer. Can you put your headset on,
because I got a question to ask you guys. Okay,
So my team, we've had our team here. We've had
three workouts, three practices, if you will, and what we
do we do is some team building at the end
of every week. So we want to do bowling. Hey,

(19:43):
we're gonna do bowling tonight. It's bowling, it's got pool,
it's got a little bit of everything. But but there's
also little people wrestling, little people wrestling at EPIC, which
is like a music venue whatever. So here's my question.
Can you watch the little people wrestling and have basketball

(20:05):
on the background or should you just stick to bowling
and have basketball in the background.

Speaker 7 (20:11):
I think you can do the basketball. I think she'd
easily get away with it, you know, considering the cell
phone era that we're in, and Doug, you have an out.
I mean, you're you're in the media business, you're in
the coaching business. You're trying to do prep.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Okay, good. I just I just want to make sure
that I watching the little people wrestling like I could.
We could report on that as a sport tomorrow and
do a breakdown. Buy Are you okay with that? Or
do you do? You think I need the bowling?

Speaker 4 (20:33):
I think I need the bowl. I think you need
the bowl. Full attention would be on those matches, okay.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
I just I just want to make sure here. I
asked the guys and they were all like, forget the bowling.
It was like, will we set the bowling up anyway?
Mark the thunder or nine and a half point favorite.
That a prohibitive favorite in the series, But is it
I don't know, does it feel that way?

Speaker 7 (20:56):
To do.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Does it feel like there's that big a disparity between
these two teams.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
Yeah, I think there's a disparity as far as like
who's the favorite. You know, I did an informal poll
a few days ago, a few assistants, few executives. They
all chose Oklahoma City. But one thing they did stresses
they thought it was going to be a competitive series.
They didn't think it was going to be a sweep.
They thought it was going to be six games. One
even said seven. So I think there's a deep respect
level for how Indiana's played, Tyres Haliburton's passing, just their pace,

(21:22):
their four balance, their coaching. But I think to the
broader point, there's just a lot of separation with Oklahoma
City because Shake Gildess Alexander had an MVP's type season,
They have a lot of wing defender Shane Williams become
a more consistent secondary scorer. But I think what this
means for the series, even if most people, including people
in Vegas, expect to Thunder win the title, I think

(21:43):
there's a case to be made that every game will
be watchable, it will be competitive, and you know, as
we're talking about, had two small market teams will mean
for you know, the interest of the casual fans. I
think that it can still you know, draw some of
them in simply because the competitiveness of the game. I mean,
what's clear, it's not going to be how it was
when you have Steph Curry, Lebron James, big market teams in.

(22:04):
But I didn't get can at least off at some
of the expected decline because the product on the flour
is expected to be really good even if okay See
is expected to win this.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Okay, let let's get to some of the other stuff
in the league. What's the reaction been to Tom Thibodeau
getting fired?

Speaker 7 (22:24):
Well, I think it's it's similar when Michael Malone and
Taylor Jenkins were fired that really like this is the
state of the NBA and coaching. But then there's the
quick have it that nothing surprises you, I think obviously.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
But Mike Malone. But Mike Malone, like they had dysfunction
and disagreement between the GM and the coach. Yeah, the
GM used to be the coach's agent, like they are
all close. This was all kind of a plan and
they and they they improved every year and got to
the Conference finals. Again, we can just you can disagree
with the rotation a sub here, sub there, but I

(23:00):
can't really disagree with the results. I just I do
think it's a little different.

Speaker 7 (23:04):
Well, without a doubt that's well, I was going to
get to that. You know, that was kind of the
initial reaction and the pivot of this is even a
whole other level because the next gets to the conference
finals for the first time in twenty five years. Tom
Thibodeaux has really elevated their team. Yeah, you can microanalyze
maybe short comings, but more had to do with the
fact that the Pacers had more depth. Klarl Anthone Towns

(23:25):
wasn't always consistent gunfoul trouble, and you know they sometimes
or oftentimes wilted double digit leads. So yeah, Tom Tibdau
is not blameless. I think when we're looking at what's
the next step, I can't think of, you know, what's
the there alternative. I mean, obviously there's going to be
interested in available candidates, and you know, the low hanging
fruit candidates are guys like Jay Wright because of his

(23:48):
Villanova ties, accomplished college coach Michael Malone because of his
pedagree went in a title Jeff van Gundy. You know,
he has nicked ties, He's gotten a lot of respect
within the Cloppers organization with how he turn around the team.
But if their witness test is okay, we need that
final piece to get to the next level to win
an NBA championship. Well that was Tom Thibodeau. And you

(24:09):
also can't guarantee maybe Boston because of next season with
Jason Tatum with his injuries. But this idea that you
know they can then just they can run it back,
even with having to go through a coaching transition. And
that's not guarantee because Cleveland's going to get better. Wherever
Giannis gets traded, it's going to get better. There's going
to be a vacuum in the Eastern Conference. But this
idea that you know they're entitled to, this I think

(24:32):
is fool's goal. You can make an argument that this
year's next overachieved expectations because partly we all expected that
it would be Boston and Cleveland in the East Finals.
But I think to New York's crewit they also, you know,
really maxed out in their potential.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio, Mark Madina
Our Fox Sports Radio NBA Insider is our guest. Okay,
so who's most likely to get that job?

Speaker 7 (25:01):
Yeah, I mean I think obviously it's it's really preliminary,
wide open at this point. But I think that you know,
they're going to go through the interview rounds just to
see who they can get. I mean, I think I
think Jeff ang Gunny should get the job. That would
be a very natural fit. He's defensive oriented, he has
ties with you know, the organization. He's shown in the

(25:24):
past that he can be a very good head coach.
I just don't know if negotiations will work out as such.
You know, I think another guy that would be really
good is Jay Wright, but I don't know if he
wants to leave the college game. And so then you
look at the next year. You know, Taylor Jenkins, Mike Budenholzer,
Mike Brown, all great head coaches. But again I'm comparing

(25:45):
this to Tom two though. I don't think any of
those coaches are better options than him. So those are
all respectable hires. But what I'm getting at, though, is
I think they you know, it's easy to fire the
head coach when you want to make a change, but
I think that they may have just created more problems
than solved it.

Speaker 5 (26:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Again, it's it's going to be super, super fascinating to watch. Okay,
what about Giannis, what's the Janis update? Where does he
want to go?

Speaker 7 (26:12):
Yeah, that part's not clear. But here's what I think
is going to happen. We're not going to hear a
lot of news developments next two weeks. Even the NBA
Draft is when things are going to start heating up
because that's when leverage plays go into play, with teams
being able to, you know, or more willing to trade
draft picks because of the NBA Draft. So I think

(26:33):
if there is a deal that's going to be made,
it's going to be on draft night, and if not,
it's going to be shortly after July first. I don't
think he's in the Bucks uniform now, to be clear,
he hasn't formally indicated that to the Bucks. The Bucks
formally haven't indicated they're going to be willing to entertain that.
But I think the writing is just on the wall
here that it's run its course, and I don't think

(26:55):
anyone's necessarily to blame. It's just the reality. They lost
three consecutive for shround matchup. Stamian Loward is expected to
have health issues next season with his injury, so the
idea of running it back here Max ceiling is probably
first round, so I think you know both parties will
come to the conclusion they're better off cutting their rosses,
having a respectful goodbye, giving a well deserved tribute video.

(27:17):
To be honest, sometimes that's not always the case. I
don't know where he goes, though, but I can stay
with conviction it's not going to be staying with the Bucks.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
I agree with you. I think it's going to be fascinating.
Kevin Durant to the Knicks doesn't happen.

Speaker 7 (27:34):
I doubt it. I think that the Suns want more
than what the Knicks have. I mean, they traded their
five first round picks to get Michel Bridges. I think
it would require more, and I think that they only
have three picks. I don't think coupling that with Karl
Anthon Towns will be enough for Phoenix's liking. I also
don't think the salaries match, so I think with Kevin,

(27:56):
clearly the writing is on the wall there. I mean, publicly,
Mattish Bias hasn't indicated that that's going to happen as
far as trading Kevin Durant, But I think that's the
end result. But if I had a guess, and this
isn't coming from anywhere, but I'm just connecting the dots,
I think he ends up in Miami. To be frank
with you, I think that's a surprise dark horse type

(28:19):
candidate and there's going to be questions on Okay, who
do you give up? But I think that Miami is
more amenable toward making a kind of deal than they
were in the past when they're in negotiations with getting
Damian Loward a few years ago, where they drew the
line in the sand and said, hey, Tyler Hero is
not going anywhere. Bam out of Bio is not going anywhere.
I think Miami's end goal is always about making sure

(28:41):
that there's still a playoff rebuilding team. But I think
that they're going to keep an open mind as far
as where they draw the line in the sands, only
because we just saw how this playoff exit was against Cleveland,
you know, losing four games, so it'll be interesting.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. That's the
voice of Mark Medina Mark, circling back real quick, what
are your expectations in the finals.

Speaker 7 (29:08):
I picked Thunder and six. I think the Thunder we're
going to see that there's a clear difference between Shay
and Tyres Albert. I mean, Shea is the best score
in the league. Tyres is more passed first, that Shay
is more consistent. I think that we're going to see
passcal Siakam be the more dominant secondary player than Jaylen Williams,
but I think that Shay's dominance is going to outweigh everything.

(29:29):
I think the other thing is we're going to see
that the Thunder are the best defensive team for a reason.
They have so much wing depth, they have, you know,
in their back pocket, the ability to go big with
Isaiah Hartenstein and Jet Holmgren are both so I think
that it's going to be a six game series. It
will still be competitive, but I think that toward crunch time,

(29:49):
the Thunder will show why they are a much better team.

Speaker 1 (29:52):

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Before we get to the headlines of the day, we
do want to play something that happened last night and Sam,
I'll take it from here. I've got the audio of
something that the great one Wayne Gretzky predicted between the
second and third periods of last night's Game one of
the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers.
He had some advice for the Oilers who had trouble

(31:29):
well getting the puck in the back of the net.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
They're playing a really smart they're playing their rick.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
Talk of defense.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
They got that forward in the middle, they're giving him outside.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Connor's gonna have to take it around the net or
stop up and hate the Lake guy because they're cutting
everything off going to the net.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
Call them now, Thomas can move aside.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
I got a red flayer off.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Town now call him now.

Speaker 5 (31:55):
Let me tell you something that's called luck. Because he's
the best player in the world.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Forty Stewart.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
I just got lucky with that.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
Statement, so Doug. That first part of the audio was
Gretzky talking between intermissions. That last part was them at
the end of regulation because that's exactly how the Oilers
scored to tie up last night's game, which they ultimately
won in overtime over Florida. Now I know you and
Hayes were at getting some wings, so you weren't or
at the club eaton, so you couldn't maybe hear the audio,

(32:24):
but Gretzky nailed it. And my whole issue is when
he comes back, he just says it was luck. But
I think you need to take a victory lap in
that scenario when you called what was going to happen,
because that is your job as an analyst.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
I think he was It's not like Magic Johnson saying
Kobe's the greatest likeer ever. I think he was being
you know, when your nickname is a great one, you
don't have to brag on yourself. I don't think it
was luck. I think he knew he knows hockey, and
it may have been luck because he hadn't done research
on it. But it wasn't luck because he has feel
and you can't teach field.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Jason Stewart, you want any tow I'm disappointed when he
says lucky. I know that the hockey are all about
people being humble and stuff, but he chose to be humble.
It was disappointing. You're the great one. You're in game
one of the Standy Cup Finals and you call almost
almost exactly what happens to end a hockey game because

(33:19):
of all of your insight and magic, I mean insight
and experience. It's literally the opposite of Magic Johnson. Magic
Johnson would have never been that smart.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
Yeah, and that's what I think. Like people think that
Gretzky's on there just because he's a figurehead, and oh
we have the great one. But when he actually gave
analysis on what Edmonton needed to do to tie the
game in that third period and then it ends up happening,
I think that shows the extreme value of Wayne Gretzky,
and I understand his him being humble in that scenario. Doug,

(33:52):
to your point, I get all of that, but I
just think for the broadcast and for what TNT had,
they couldn't have him do that because it showed the
value of having him that he probably has the view
that only a select few players like the other players
on that set. I do not think like Wayne Gretzky
and Connor McDavid do, But Gretzky does, so he has

(34:14):
insight into that superstar that's where. And so I come
on the side of Jason and I love Gretzky, and
I think there was his opportunity to shine. But last
night he just downplayed it when I didn't think he should.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Have fair enough.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
Aaron Rodgers is a Pittsburgh Steeler. The quarterback has agreed
to sign a one year deal to play the steel
City for the twenty twenty five season and is expected
to be at mandatory mini camp next week.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
I'm excited. I'm not you know, as you guys know,
I was a really big Aaron Rodgers fan. Then there
was period of time we were friends friendly. That time
has passed doesn't matter. I think he's an awesome quarterback.
Last year, he was a disaster to start the year.
Then he got better and better. I don't know what
he has left in the tank. But despite the fact
I'm Mason Ruolf's a friend of mine, I want to

(35:00):
see Aaron Rodgers play more football. I'd like to see
what he has left. I like to see what the
Pittsburgh Steers look like if they have a few first
ballot Hall of Famer granted not in his prime. Like
I'm excited about it, and people who are not you
may be worn out by the Aaron Rodgers news or
all the other stuff. But yeah, and then the big

(35:22):
question is is he going to be allowed to do McAfee.
That'll know the answer to that.

Speaker 4 (35:27):
Speaking of quarterbacks in the AFC, Anthony Richardson of the
Indianapolis Colts is dealing with a shoulder issue, aggravating an
issue that cost him games last season. He is not
going to take part in the team's mandatory mini camp
this week or next week that is, and head coach
Shane Steiken said today they're not sure iff Richardson will
be ready for the start of training camp. Daniel Jones

(35:48):
likely to get those first team reps at mini camp.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
That's crazy. I mean how much they have laid on
the line for that guy, and now Daniel Jones might
get to come in and get another shot.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
And crazy, and they this is an open competition. This
was the words of Chris Ballard the GM when this
offseason began. This is an open competition between Richardson and Jones,
and it's it almost feels like it's strike three for
Richardson if he isn't able to make it back because
they've given him all of the opportunity and if he

(36:20):
can't stay healthy, that's a that's a big part of playing.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
It's the opposite situation in Seattle, Dan when we had
a we had your head coach yesterday being like, it's
ridiculous to insinuate that Sam Donald will not be the
starting quarterback. And I'm like, who is the head coach
of the Seattle Seahawks. And I'm like, I just keep keep.

Speaker 4 (36:39):
Forgetting Keith, forgetting very very well done. I agree with
Mike McDonald that Donald should be their guy. There were
reports that Drew Locke looked good. You obviously drafted Jalen
Milroe in the third round. Rick Pattino said last night
the Saint John's head coach after throwing out the first
pitch the Yankees games, speaking with Yes, saying that the

(37:03):
Yes network not the band that absolutely not. Would he
be the next head coach of the New York Knicks.
Not gonna happen now.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Goundet wan Bee Prude I had this junk.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Sure, and that's the press.

Speaker 5 (37:16):
Now get out there and pressed.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
That was the press.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
Stuck, got leap show here, Fox Sports tradey all right,
nine and a half point line is the line for tonight,
Dan Byer, who.

Speaker 3 (37:24):

Speaker 1 (37:27):

Speaker 3 (37:27):

Speaker 1 (37:31):
