Speaker 2 (00:56):
Packers and Commanders.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
DJ of course has seen everybody play plus all of
us fifteen annoying Charger fans. That's what Ryan said, right,
fifteen annoying Charger fans somehow are of a noxious group.
But we're going to celebrate because DJ was in South
Polo calling the game last Friday. We do this every Thursday.
It was I'll credit both of Dan Byer and Jase
(01:21):
Tuo as they came up with it. It's a way
of hearkening back, looking back, thinking back. It's a way
of not throwing back Thursday.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Don't call it a throwback Thursday.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Okay there, Jay Sue.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Thank you, Doug.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
I'll take it from here.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
I think that a lot of us remember exactly what
we were doing twenty four years ago today hashtag don't
forget uh no one will ever forget the atrocity of
the morning of September eleventh, two thousand and one. I
guess you would say it's eerie given the shooting yesterday,
(02:08):
the political assassination. I don't care what your ideology is.
I think we could put both of them in the
category of an attack on our freedoms. I will say this,
I remember not only waking up and watching the news
that morning, but I also remember being at the gym
(02:28):
Rome Show, and for the better part of the next
two weeks not knowing what to say on the air.
Three hours of radio sports had pretty much kind of
shut down, and it was just kind of eerie in
our world, the sports media world, where it was always like,
you know, we need to give the listeners something to
(02:50):
escape from this horrible tragedy, and we attempted to. I
think we all were kind of putting an odd situation.
I will say this, when we think about two thousand
and one, what happened leading up to this day, what
happened afterwards? People do forget that. I think two weeks
from today, on the twenty third of September, Drew Bledsoe
(03:14):
got an awful hit what going out of bounds from
moe Lewis any of this is wrong? You can correct me.
And a guy named Tom Brady took over. Maybe you've
heard of him, and so that was the very beginning
also of the of the I guess you would say
dynasty that would last the better part of two decades.
(03:37):
Tom Brady replacing Drew Bledsoe, Dan, what do you remember
most from that day?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
From that year? You know, as we look at this
in a segment, kind of through I know it's not
through our sports and glasses, but I feel that there's
such a separation from what happened September eleventh and then
how we have the sports schedule the rest of the way,
because it was so tied into that and a lot
of stuff previously from prior of that year of two
(04:06):
thousand and one. We don't talk about as much or
you say, oh, that happened in two thousand and one,
but we know for sure Yankees Diamondbacks was two thousand
and one. We will never forget those those moments, just
like the Patriots season, as you talked about the same thing,
we will always remember that happened in two thousand and one.
I was working at a small radio television station in Baraboo, Wisconsin,
(04:31):
on September eleventh of two thousand and one, and while
Jason you were trying to figure out something to say
for two weeks on the Jim Rome Show, I had
the exact opposite of it, because there were so many
other stories that were happening, both on a local and
national level, and so trying to cover how nine to
eleven in New York City and in Washington, d C.
Could affect a small town in south central Wisconsin was
(04:56):
a unique challenge. But you're talking with all the different
talking with the airports, You're talking with the emergency services
people of that city, of that county, all of the
different things you're talking you're even talking to a works
department thing because of just of what could possibly happen.
Plus there was a lot happening. Remember the gas station
lines because we felt that the price of gas was
(05:19):
going to go through the roof. I remember driving home
after an exhausting day of it and then driving past
the gas station and just seeing lines of cars on
September eleventh, because people were also freaking out about what's
gonna happen now to the price. It was such a
such a time of unknown. Just a surreal day and
surreal couple of weeks after that, and trying to navigate
(05:39):
this new world.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
I've told my version of that story a good amount.
It's funny you bring up the Bledsoe thing. So my
first foray into national sports radio was that weekend Jase two.
I got a chance to I think it was like
I want to say, Sunday and Monday, May even Tuesday
for Todd Wright, who hosted All Night on ESPN Radio. So, uh,
(06:08):
you know a lot of people did this where you
know they you're basically taken time off, and you know
I was. I was guest hosting local radio at the
time for Jim Traber in Oklahoma City. He was covering
the Arizona Diamondback, so I would guest host those shows
while they were gone and getting ready to go back
and play overseas, which I ultimately went to him and
played in Israel.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
But I I.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Was in a sports bar not far from the Bristol
campus watching the game when Bledsoe went down, and my
first opportunity to host a national radio show. There's a
tape somewhere somewhere it exists where I was like, ah,
Batriots are done. Bledsoe replaced by Tom Brady, come on,
(06:56):
come on. So of all the freezing takes gone wrong,
freezing cold take's gone wrong, that was probably my coldest Ryan.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
Where were you On September eleventh, two thousand and one,
I had.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Just graduated from Seasun and there was a recession. I
could not get a job, but saved my life. So
I had to work at Enterprise rent a car for
two years, and I saw just business was just stopped.
Nobody was written cars. I was just sitting in an
office all day. It was just a very depressing time.
(07:32):
That's what I remember.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
It was.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
It was a very very depressing time. IM my flight
to Connecticut, Jay su we flew. That was back when Delta,
I think it was Delta wasn't northwest Delta flew through
Cincinnati CBG, which is north northern Kentucky airport, right, and
I saw three other civilians in the airport. I saw
(07:59):
plenty of very national guardsmen with with with the bomb
sniffing dogs and whatever. But I actually, this is a
pretty good day to do it right, considering what happened yesterday.
And you know how how politics seems to have spiraled
to this place where now we have political violence.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
It's just awful.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
And what I remember about Post done eleven And tell
you guys, tell me if I'm wrong, if you traveled,
is people were actually nice to each other.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
They were actually kind to each other.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Maybe it's because we all thought it was going to
come to an end soon and we want to make
right with God, whatever it is. I again, that was
it was probably only a month, but it did last.
It did last that month where people were nice to
each other.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
I agree, No, that was it was like one of
those galvanizing times. Everyone loved the President of the United States,
everyone loved the mayor of New York. It was kind
of surreal looking back to it. The personal story I
had that kind of linked what I do for a
living and someone in sports, John Thompson Hall of Fame
(08:59):
head coach Georgetown hoyas he was scheduled to come out
and do an in studio appearance on Jim Rome's talk show.
I had coordinated it with the with the TV booker
as well, and something happened, uh to where he did
not get on the plane that went down, and I, God,
(09:25):
forgive me. I don't know the actual flight. I I'm
not familiar with the flight, but he did not get
on one of the flights that were taken down. And
we did for several years after that. On this date,
John Thompson would join Jim Roll and literally thank him
and all the producers involved in what what obviously inadvertently
(09:48):
saved his life.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Just an incredible story.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
That is an incredible story, just to uh to follow
up on a quick Google search ed Cooley, current Georgetown
head coach, also had a similar story, saying that he
was about to go on the flight American Airlines flight
eleven to Los Angeles as he was working at BC
(10:13):
at that time with Al Skinner was the head coach
and did not did not make the did not make
the flight.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
So of all the ones to not make the flight, right.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Yeah, I think that's yes. Is I'm just glancing over. Yes,
he was gonna, yeah, gonna make that they were gonna
meet up. He was gonna meet up with Al Skinner
on September eleventh and end up trying to visit andre
Iguodala in Chicago was another part of their trip.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Reading this, so, man, that's that's fascinating. You know, well,
I guess I'll tell the depth of my story. I
literally got in the car in still Out, Oklahoma, because
I would work out and train. Lived there with my
wife an apartment right next to the same apartment I
have my senior year in college. We were just back
(11:05):
from I played in Russia the year before, and I
thought it was fake.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Thought it was like War of the Worlds.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
And I pulled into WWLS, which is in Oklahoma City,
the big sports animal station, and know what, you could
hear a pin drop and everybody was just watching in
the newsroom and I saw the second plane hit the tower,
and yeah, it was just we would go on and
off the air where they'd run ABC News, and we
just asked people to stay calm and not gouge prices.
(11:37):
I think that the thing to remind people, because what
sucks about where we are now is a society. If
you everything is a conspiracy, right, everything is a conspiracy,
And I just I don't know how to help people
if you really think that these these things are are
(11:58):
are in any way accurate. But in real time, it
was very scary. I think all of us thought that
one if you're in Los Angeles, you thought they were
going to strike LA, right, that's now strike New York.
They're trying to strike DC. You would think LA would
would be one. But then when you're in small town America.
(12:20):
I was in Oklahoma at the time and spending time
with my then in laws and drum rite Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Just the thought is that you're going to you know, it's.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Gonna start World War three, and World War three we
had kind of been been ingrained in us since we
were little kids that world War three is thermonuclear war.
Thermonuclear war, nobody survives. It's nuclear holocaust, and it's all
those dystopian movies that you've seen kind of combined. Thankfully
that didn't happen. But that was the fear and the
(12:50):
pale that went over America. Now there was a lot
of good things that ended up coming afterwards, because that
was a terrible thing. Do you think the unity George
Bush thrown at that first strike at Yankee Stadium? But
like mostly it was it was sadly a unifying force
(13:10):
for our for our country that did, for a short
period of time, bring us much closer. The rhetoric is
so different now than it was then. It is so
gross now, even before yesterday's ridiculously tragic events, right, just
so gross. And I do think on some point, on
(13:31):
some level, we should like look back and go like
we still had lots of differences then, only we didn't.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Let's take it to the level we take it to now.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
I do have a little bit more clarity. Good message, Doug.
By the way, not to switch back to what Jason
was saying, but the point John Thompson, according to a
piece from Seth Davis, was going to do Jim Rome's
TV show, is that that was the background of it. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
So I don't know if you're looking at the same
article that I was. But what happened was Ed Cooley
(14:02):
was supposed to go on a flight to LA and
recruit a player, but a couple of days before that,
that player decided to go to play at Georgetown for
John Thompson, so that meant that they he didn't need
to take the flight that was bound for LA. Thompson
was set to go out to LA for the Jim
(14:23):
Rome TV appearance and this is what Seth Davis had
to say. That Thompson was asked to appear on the
TV show in LA on September eleventh. The plan was
for Thompson to take the flight to LA to do
the show and then take another flight to Las Vegas
that same day. But a few days before the interview,
Thompson was asked that they could push back the appearance
(14:43):
another day, and at first he didn't want to, and
then he agreed to because of that, So it was
Flight seventy seven. Yep.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
Thompson's house is near the Pentagon. Flight seventy seven, the
one that went crashed near the Pentagon or into the Pentagon.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Now he was going to get on the plane that
when when that plane landed on nine eleven, Yeah, because
that one had taken off from Pittsburgh, right, Was that
the one that taken out toictago off from Pittsburgh?
Speaker 4 (15:11):
I well, there was the fourth ninety three was the
one that crashed in Pennsylvania, but I don't.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
But the one that went into the Pentagon, I think
John Thompson did that take off from DC or did that?
Was that landing in DC and then it was going
to take off and that's what regardless of.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
What, Yeah, this was he was going to be on
American Airlines flight seventy seven to LA from DC and
he wanted to get to Las Vegas on the thirteenth.
He was going to do Rome on the eleventh, then
fly to Vegas and be at his friend's place on
the thirteenth. Jason and the Rome people from the TV
side of things tried to push it back. He didn't
(15:51):
want to because he had this commitment on the thirteenth.
Ultimately said okay, and then didn't get on the flight
on the eleventh because there was no need to go
to LA for the TV appearance.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Yet, normally we like to keep this lively and fun.
It's just there was nothing lively and fun about that, right,
there's nothing living fun. And I again, this is a
day where I don't I had a guy who was
with us last year who talked about the forced patriotism
(16:24):
of the national anthem before supporting events. So I do
understand that some people feel that way. If you feel
that way, this is not the day to express it, right.
Just I'm giving you a sense because not everybody who
is an adult now was old enough to understand all
(16:44):
of what was going on. And however you feel about
our government's actions, reactions or whatever, today's not the day.
Today's day to put your hand up your heart. Today's
tonight's night to put your hand on your heart when
you're watching on TV today, to take a take a
second and go, hey, that was so incredibly sad. Let's
(17:06):
hope we're never in that place again. Yeah, I hug
your kids.
Speaker 3 (17:11):

It is the Doug Gottlib Show on Foxsports Radio. Uh,
(17:53):
let's let's catch up with Daniel Jeremiah DJ. Of course
you can see you on the NFL network. You can
hear them called Charger games. And and he was in
Green Bay for the NFL Draft as the lead analyst
for the NFL Networks coverage of the NFL Draft. I
asked you that because Matthew Golden pretty good debut. And
I don't know I'm getting right. We're getting ready for
(18:14):
tonight's game against the Commanders. And it's just a very
unpacker like way of one drafting a wide receiver in
the first round and then trading for Micah Parsons. Uh,
feels like a little bit of an all in mentality.
Are where are they after watching them one week on
film against.
Speaker 8 (18:31):
The Lions, excited about the defense man, I mean, Matthew
Golden was one of my favorites in the draft, and Uh,
we can get to the offense. But to me that
this is this is, if not the one of the
fastest front sevens in the NFL right now, and they're
equipped to play against the team they're going to play
against tonight because of that. And you go back and
(18:52):
watch that tape and you see, you know, the Micah
Chase plays, but Edrian Cooper was all over the field.
Kay Walker played really really well. They've They've done a
nice job of accumulating a lot of athletic front seven guys,
and I think Mike it can kind of be that
finishing piece for him and Doug no matter what the sport.
I've always been a big proponent, We've talked about it
(19:13):
on here before of understanding your windows. I think that's
one of the key jobs of a general managers to
know where you are in the process. And I thought
that Green Bay correctly identified this as a championship opportunity
and they went very, very aggressive, and I thought it
was a smart move.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Uh Okay, what about the Commanders. I mean, the Giants
had no offense, nobody to be protect, but how did
they look when you watch them on film?
Speaker 8 (19:39):
I think the offensive line is better, you know, Armie
Tuntle is an upgrade for them. We got Connery on
the right side. It's going to be a good player.
Krosskey Merritt showed some real flashes last week. I think
he'll be their their lead back going forward. So I
some answers to some of their problems. So that was
a good sign there. There's still a lot of age
(20:01):
and some key spots, so you know, that's something I
think to monitor as we go through the season. But
now it's a it's a it's a really good team,
and I you know, everything kind of lined up well
formed last year to get to the NFC Championship Game.
I don't know that they do that again, but they're
gonna be a tough They're gonna be a tough matchup
each and every week.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Uh Okay, I have so many other questions. Let's start
in South pallow Okay, the game you called the Charger Game.
My big question heading into the year was had the
league caught up to the Chiefs, right, the Chiefs in
terms of their overall talent level? Had had the league
caught up so much that that this incredible run of
(20:40):
Championship Game, Super Bowl, Championship Game, Super Bowl would come
to an end. Obviously, losing Xavier Worthy hurt to you
without your top.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Two wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
What do you think of their talent level moving forward?
Speaker 8 (20:53):
I actually think the offensive line is better than last year.
There was some some rough spots here there for Simmons
that left tackle, but he's a major upgrade for them there.
You know, it's hard to judge what the receiving group's
going to look like when you don't have your top
two guys. I thought that that was there was so
much emphasis in watching that game, preparing for that game
on explosive plays and we're going to be vertical, and
(21:16):
I thought the Chargers almost kind of took advantage of
that thought process. They came out they weren't going to
allow that to happen. And I thought Mahomes for the
first three or four series was trying to be aggressive
and push the ball, push the ball, and then finally
they kind of settled in. It's almost like Andy Reid said, Hey,
that's not what they're giving us, that's not how we're
(21:37):
going to move the ball, and they started playing a
little bit more under control, taking what was there using
his legs and then all of a sudden you look
up and real quick they can put twenty points on
the board. So I'm not ready to throw dirt on him.
I would actually be more concerned with him on the
defensive side of the ball than whatever. You know, people
complaining about him offensively. They can't get home with four guys,
(22:01):
so they got to bring a lot of extra guys
to that to that party, and Drew Trankle got a
couple of sacks, but it also left them pretty naked
in the back end on some key downs and justin
Herbert picked them apart. So uh, you know, in the
league where you're going to see elite quarterbacks, especially in
the AFC, that would be more of a concern coming
out of Brazil for the Chiefs from.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Me, okay, what I mean? Obviously all of us thought
Herbert played really well. But you saw it person, you've
seen it on tape. Give me your reaction to Herbert.
Speaker 8 (22:29):
It was fun to watch just he was in attack mode.
They came out aggressive, with a with a game plan
to push the ball. I think he has a lot
of confidence in guys. I think he has a great
chemistry with with Keenan from their history, and he has
you know, in in very short order. Last year developed
that chemistry with Lad McConkie. So you've got two guys
(22:50):
he sees the game very similarly too. And now you
get Quinton Johnston who gets to match up with some
safeties on occasion, uh you know, or the third best
corner and and he gets loose. So I thought Herbert
played fantastic. And I thought, more than anything else, it's
the first time I've seen him with that many different
guys that he really really trusts.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
M he was, he was, he was excellent. Is the
to a thing fixable?
Speaker 8 (23:20):
I didn't look good, man, It's just I would use
the word kind of lethargic, is what it looked like.
So I don't know if that's a physical regression or
if that's just a sluggish start to the season. I mean,
I'll be I'll be conservative and reserve judgments, you know,
for the next week or two. But if it's that's
(23:42):
what it is there and he and they are in
big trouble.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
M I I think they're in big trouble.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
I just yeah, I think you're I think I'm leaning
that direction. I'm trying not to be. One week into
the season, sweeping conclusion guy, But that didn't.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Look good Caleb Williams.
Speaker 7 (23:59):
Now.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
I think the thing that a lot of us wonder
about Caleb Williams is there were some just bad misses
on you felt like should have been layup throws and
you can't say, well, he didn't have a rhythm because
he was in a rhythm early and then all of
a sudden started missing throws.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
What was your breakdown of how he played?
Speaker 8 (24:19):
Yeah, I know some of these plays have been kind
of explained on. You know, some some route confusion or adjustments,
but there's also some some other ones that are just
even some balls that got tipped or batted where it
was just kind of an instinct thing like not finding
a lane and not you know, adjusting your throat everything
(24:39):
firm and fast what it doesn't necessarily have to be. Yeah,
I mean I didn't. I didn't love what I saw there.
I thought in that game you had JJ McCarthy who
made mistakes, Yes, but he looked more comfortable playing on
schedule than Caleb did. And I was hoping we're going
to see him kind of take that next day up
(25:00):
and and maybe as he gets more comfortable in this
new system, you'll see that. But as someone who had
obviously a very high opinion of Caleb and a very
high grade on him, I was, you know, definitely wanted
to see a little bit better than what we saw there.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Yeah, I don't think there's any question that most of
us would like to see a little little something better.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Than what we saw.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show. You're listening to Fox
Sports Radio. Daniel Jeremiah is our guest. Let's circle back
to the Lions. You know there wasn't it was just
dink and dunk, you know, check down city at quarterback
with Jared Goff. Was it coordinator that was missing or
was it the speed of Green Bay's defense?
Speaker 8 (25:40):
Well, I think you know, green Bay's defense is legit fast,
but I didn't see I didn't see a lot of creativity.
I thought it was pretty static. I went back, and
you know, the game was losting them in the red zone.
If they if they're better in the red zone, they're
in that game. But they I think they were one
for four in the red zone. So I went back
and watched the red zone on snaps last year against
(26:02):
the same opponent, and last year just seem there's more shift,
there's more movement, there's more creativity you get inside reverse
to Haman Ross Saint Brown, you get a tight end
screen like it was they got. You know, you can
get some rub routes going, some mesh concepts. This was
just just very static, very plain. You know, even when
(26:23):
they're coming out. I think on some first downs they're
in the gun, you know, just pure drop back, not
even no play action associated with it. I thought it
was a much easier offense to defend, and that, to me,
is is more of a coaching thing than anything else.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Why was Sam Donalds so pedestrian numbers wise?
Speaker 8 (26:43):
I think I thought he played better than the numbers
when I watched it. And you know what, I'm a
Caleb guy. I'll tell you honest, they didn't. I didn't
like what I saw there. I'm a Sam guy. I'll
defend him on this one. I thought he played well.
They had some drops, they had fumble mixed in there.
He marches them right down the field at the end
of the game, and then Joey Bosa throws his right
(27:04):
tackle and or Nick Bosa throws the right tackle on
his lap and and they lose the contest. But I
came away from that scene. I thought his eyes were good,
they were where they're supposed to be. He made some
good throws. You know, they got to find a way
to get other guys other than JSN rolling in that offense.
But I actually came away pretty encouraged by what I
saw from Seattle. I thought they were the more talented team,
(27:25):
the deeper team than than the Niners in that game.
It's just the Niners have, you know, when they're healthy,
those four or five blue chip elite players, and when
it was money down time, Christian McCaffrey made a play,
Bosa made a play. You know, Kittle made a play
early before he got hurt. I thought that was kind
of the difference in the game.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
So Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio, Uh,
Patriots laid an egg? Or were the Were the Raiders
that good?
Speaker 2 (27:50):
What happened?
Speaker 8 (27:52):
I think it's somewhere in the middle. I thought the
Raiders played hard. I thought they were really run into
the ball. That was a good sign of a team
that's buying into the culture when you see guys running
to the ball like that. But I don't know that
New England needs to be thrown it that much either,
Like they've got to get some balance in there, and uh,
you know that's going to be their challenge going forward
(28:12):
at Drake May. I'm a big believer and I think
he's you know, he's ready to take another step there.
But I thought that was a little too much, a
little too soon.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah, but you would have thought, you know, a year
under his belt, you would have thought playing at home.
I don't know one would have thought that was a
that was a money opportunity.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Uh why.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
I know there was a fumble, but the Ravens had
two other empty possessions as well. Give me your sense
of what happened with the Bills comeback?
Speaker 8 (28:43):
Well, I mean the fumble, yes, but that game to
me was decided on the Ravens last possession, and I
think they needed to approach that with the urgency, a
little more urgency and aggressiveness. And again I kind of
go back to that static you know word when you
take the ball out of Lamar's hand and you run
the ball into the line of scrimmage and you try
and get just everyone in the stands can see run
(29:06):
play to to say, Flowers, that didn't have a ton
of imagination misdirection. I mean that whole game was them
putting buffalo on their heels and guessing who's got the ball,
where's it going? And it was masterful, and then it
just got kind of dumb down on the biggest possession
of the entire game. And you can know once that
ball got back to Josh Allen, that was a wrap.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh. Aaron Rodgers rolling to his right looked good.
But there were times where Aaron Rodgers again, and I
can't tell you, I watched every stafford the all twenty.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Two, how did you think he looked.
Speaker 8 (29:41):
I thought he threw the ball well. I thought he
got the living snot kicked out of him, which would
concern me just in terms of being able to run
him out there for seventeen weeks. But no, I thought
he did a good job under center. You know, I
think left tackle for them right now is a very
real concern. They're gonna have to They're gonna have to
(30:01):
work through that problem, you know, going forward, and if
you know, if he could hit like that, he's not
gonna make it to this season. But watching him throw
the football, I thought he threw the ball extremely well.
I thought Arthur Smith did a really good job designing it,
and you know, I was. It was not what I
expected that the Pittsburgh offense was gonna have to bail
out the Pittsburgh defense in that game. And I give
(30:24):
Rogers credit.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
He did it.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Who wins tonight?
Speaker 8 (30:31):
I've gone back and forth, you know. I there's so much,
so much momentum with Green Bay right now. I think
they're they're gonna be riding high. But I just I
ended up. I ended up leaning towards Washington. E can
one out here, So I don't have a high confidence
level there. Doug. I think it'll be a really good game.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
You should have a high confidence. You're good enough and
people like you, Daniel.
Speaker 8 (30:55):
I I appreciate you. I don't know if i'd use
people plural, but I do appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (31:00):

Sticks podcast, DJ, you the best, Thanks.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
The Press.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
I think this may be deja vu all over again
for Ryan Smith, our technical producer today, but earlier today
on The Herd, Tom Brady joined Colin Cowherd and Doug
tom Brady no bleeps, given.
Speaker 9 (32:36):
They're grading you, and now you go as a first
year quarterback you barely know, and now everyone's telling you
you suck, and it takes a while to regain your confidence.
You lose your whole fan base, and it's it's it's
really unfortunate. That's how I developed and learned. Oh defense
calls a certain play, this is how we can. We
can put him in this formation and they can back
the coverage off and I'll have a short thrown reason.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Oh great, I love that. Let's do that.
Speaker 9 (33:00):
Tom Brady two weak, couldn't stand in the pockets, you know,
is if he gets hit, he's gonna go down.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
You know, laughs are really strong arm. That was kind
of bold. But what I really understood the mental emotional part.
Speaker 9 (33:13):
Three.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
There are three today, right Ryan? Is that what we've got?
I think three times tom Brady? Yeah, drop the drop
then s word he's a potty mouth.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Geez uh he was a potty mouth. But you know,
maybe that's the real Tom Brady coming out. Maybe that's uh,
maybe it's kind of contrived in the Kobe Bryant sort
of way where Kobe would oftentimes interview curse and you know,
win the hearts and minds of younger people. It doesn't
(33:48):
feel forced Jase to I know you're not a Tom
Brady as a broadcaster, guy, it did feel a little
bit more like the real Tom Brady.
Speaker 5 (33:56):
I think that Tom Brady is going to be a
great motivational speaker. I also think that Tom Brady would
make a great back in the studio guy when they
have like thirty seconds to not screw up. I just
don't think he's good on live broadcast. He's not insightful enough.
So that energy that you're talking about, or that genuineeness
(34:17):
if that's a word that has nothing to do with
my critique of him. I just don't think he's got
the insight to be a quality commentator.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
I think there is the bigger question too, like you
really know on how much you swear when you can
turn it on and off.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Sure, and.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
So that's where I don't know. I think that he
really must swear a lot if it's just naturally coming
out of his the vocabulary like that I was gonna
say vernacular vocabulary that is, I mean to have it
happened three times. It's not like Hey, I'm doing an
interview on TV that probably doesn't resonate because he's talking football,
(34:58):
But there is so much of the can you turn
it on and off and knowing when you are swearing?
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Yeah, well, I mean listen. I I don't think have
I ever sworn with you guys in my time? Just
I don't want to say unequivocally. I do know one
time in twenty three years I dropped abs, but it
was it was on a radio interview and thankfully I
(35:27):
thought they dropped it, they dumped it.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
But that was like literally twenty years ago.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
I have nothing wrong with swearing, but I will say
that I recently went there was a chiropractor in our area.
I was looking for someone closer to where we lived,
so I went in for the first time. There was
another patient there. She was talking to the office manager
and the other patient was swearing, and there was this
(35:54):
open conversation between the two. I was completely turned off
by it. I was a new paper. I was there
and to hear and it's not a better than sort
of thing. It was just it really hit my ear
wrong to hear the swear word in that setting. Professional. Yes,
because both like back and forth, not that they were
(36:15):
flying him back and forth. But in the conversation one
the office manager did swear. The patient swore two or
three times, and I'm like, this is the atmosphere of
this place. I don't know if I want to come
back here, even though I swear probably just as much
as anybody. Yeah, yeah, weird thing. Anyway, the NFL won't
punish Ravens.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
I don't think you swear as much as anybody did.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
Okay, all right, well just saying that I'm not I'm
not innocent, but I just was hit the ear wrong
in that in that setting, the NFL won't punish Raven's
quarterback Lamar Jackson for shoving a fan after he was
shoved during a touchdown celebration in Week one.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
I do think that even though the fan was pushing
and shoving, was was leaning over in the field. I
do think, you know, if you're gonna tell Lamar like, hey, dude,
just don't touch, don't go anywhere, E fit like nothing
good could happen there.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
But I.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Think the right thing did happen. By the NFL, they
didn't overreact.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
And now the NFL network is saying that forty nine
Ers quarterback brock Party could miss two to five weeks
because of his turf toe injury. In Rappaport saying that
the game against the Saints in Week two and the
game against the Cardinals in Week three are both in
serious jeopardy.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Why does it seem like San Francisco always has more
injury injuries than everybody else?
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Just seems so what.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
That's the way they play. That's the press, Get out
there and pressed.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
That was the press.
