(00:43):
You know, it's really interesting h this world and success,
Like how do you define success? How do you find
define success? I'm fascinated by it because I would say
that there's a lot of people that don't think the
Celtics have had a successful year to this point, right,

(01:04):
Like one of the hard things is dealing with expectations.
And again, like if you go back a year ago,
and I'll use myself as an example and welcome into
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports, I do yes.
I am the new head basketball coach at green Bay
really fired up about it last year. I'm also like,

(01:27):
I understand you think like you think you would know. Oh, well,
here's the guy. You know, he's from California, he got
an ego, he's a bunk. Things should come in and
do the Dion Sanders and just go and raid the
portal and run all the players off and ring like.
I don't know. I don't know why I got that accent.

(01:49):
But that's the point. That's not how people talk up here.
But the thing is that last year, one of the
things that really appealed to me was that I thought
that green Bay was massively underperforming in a league with
a type of history with however, many players were close locally.

(02:12):
I truly believe that that green Bay was a job
that you could go from four to My target was
fifteen to seventeen wins. They won eighteen games last year.
And that's why Sundance Wicks got the Wyoming job when
it came open. That's why he was won a national

(02:33):
Coach of the Year award. But the reason I liked
the job was one it was underperformed, but two, there
wouldn't be gigantic expectations on a new head coach who
hadn't coached in college before, Right, you got to be reasonable, like, hey,
I know basketball, I know I can coach basketball. I
know I can get this job done. I have zero
zero what's amounts of? Was it imposter syndrome? Is that

(02:59):
what was called? It's called himposter syndrome, right, which I
know what it is and I can I kind of
describe it, but I think it's pretty It's become something
that everybody talks about. So I know that there's expectations. Now.
They won eighteen games, and despite the fact that a
coaching change was made, and you know, essentially May fifteenth,

(03:22):
which is a very difficult time, it doesn't mean that
people aren't going to look and say, hey, we won
eighteen games last year, why can't you win twenty this year?
It's expectations. The Celtics are victims of their own success,
but also victims of what anybody would determine to be
ridiculous expectations. Don't believe me. Here's Charles Barkley talking about

(03:45):
the Celtics.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
They had the worst offense I've seen for grown folks.
Like it's like it's like they just get.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
A ball to one guy and go one on one.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
They win a lot of games because they got talent,
but there's it's like, like, what are they doing. It's like, here, Jason,
you get to the top of key, go one on
one shoes, step back three Jayalen, you go back there,
you make a move. Everybody just stands around. It's frustrated.
I don't Maybe some things will change when Pazingis come back,
but the way they play offense right now, they're not.

(04:18):
They can't win a championship like that.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Okay, let me ask you guys something. Do you know
who has the number one offense and offensive efficiency rankings
in the NBA? That would That would be the Boston Celtics.
That would be the Boston Celtics. Like, it's really interesting
that And I understand what Charles is saying because I've
seen it too. Right, Jason Tatum, it does feel like

(04:43):
every game, every move is like a workout video where
he's trying to make a move. All right, does but
the reality to it, the reality to it is that
as much as he is, he does make moves like
he's going against a cone. Without their starting big man,

(05:08):
a huge cog in their offense, they advanced to the
Eastern Conference finals, and like, I have friends in Cleveland,
and before Donovan Mitchell got hurt, they felt like they
had Boston right there, dead to rights on the ropes.
But we're going to take shots of their offense when
they run the most efficient offense in the NBA. Really

(05:32):
really seems weird to me, seems super strange to me.
And I think the only thing is we just have
these ridiculous expectations for the Celtics and that therein lies
really the issue. Right. Yes, last year they I guess

(05:54):
you would say they underachieved in the playoffs is what
they've done. Last year they lost. They last year they
lost in the conference finals, the year before in the finals,
Brad Stevens. Last year when they were thirty six and
thirty six right in the COVID year season, they lost

(06:18):
in the first round. Outside of that, it's been conference finals,
conference semis, conference finals, conference finals. Like this has been
the most honestly over the last eight years. That's the
most consistent franchise in the NBA. They've only made one
NBA finals. They're very likely to make the NBA finals again.
They had the most wins in the NBA this season.

(06:39):
They had the highest ranked efficient offensive efficiency ranking in
the NBA, and yet for whatever reason, we still felt
let down by them. What is that about? Tell me
of a team, and you know it's not It's not
me saying I love the way they play, but remember
they're also down a very important cog and it changes

(07:04):
you dramatically if you're missing a starter like christophs Perzingis,
who I think inarguably is their third best player and
maybe their most important because the space that he creates.
They are a victim of one thing. They are a
victim of unrealistic expectations, you know, unrealistic expectations. Again, I

(07:31):
can watch and sit there and go and like, you know,
the last two wins, they beat the Calves without Donovan
Mitchell and they end up going to the NBA Final,
NBA Eastern Conference Finals, and you're like, why can't they
win by more? Does it matter? It's just a really
weird It's it's very very strange, like the the the Bucks,
for example, have won an NBA championship during that same

(07:53):
time span, which is a higher ceiling than that of
the Celtics, who have gotten to one NBA finals. It's fair,
but they've had their own disastrous seasons as well, far
more disastrous than the Celtics. And the only thing I
can think of is that's what happens when you have

(08:14):
crazy expectations. Because by any measurable metric, the team with
the best record who also gets to the Eastern Conference
finals and does so without their starting center, who creates
a lot of opportunities for them and opens up the
floor and defends the room defensively, I don't know what
more are they supposed to do? Byer, what do you think?

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Like?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
What am I missing here? You know, it's like it
doesn't look pretty enough? Is there's some margin of victory? Thing?
It's never just easy. Teams don't just lay down, especially
this deep in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
I actually think it goes back to Danny Ainge and
the great job that he did as a general manager.
But then you also look at all, right, when are
we going to catch in these chips in terms of
our oneness? Are going to pay out for a championship?
And so even though Danny Ainge isn't there anymore, Brad

(09:11):
Stevens moves from head coach to front office, there is
still that connection. Plus the deals you know that were
made to swap picks and you end up drafting Jason
Tatum and doing that deal with the Sixers, and that
pays off for you. All of that is well and good,
but now you really want to cash in on it.

(09:32):
And that's where I think when you look back on it,
it's been the two thousand and eight title, and that's
been it, and now that's what sixteen years ago. So
that's that's how I actually look at the Boston Celtics
as well as I actually thought Doug that there was
a time when we were giving them way too much
credit because of what they haven't done. They've done a

(09:58):
great job over the last ten or fifty years to
be able to maneuver and have their core and really
not miss a step, because wasn't there an Isaiah Thomas
Eastern Conference Finals run at one point after the KG
Paul Pierce ray Allen squad like there was, so there
was even success there and then now you're waiting for

(10:19):
this new group to take over, and they have and
they went to a finals two years ago. But now
I think that you want a championship, and honestly, if
you're the Celtics, that should be the that should be
the case.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
The absolutely should be the standard, and there's no question, like,
but but there's a difference there between wanting a championship
and a team advances and be like, yeah, but they didn't,
they should have swept them.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
Yeah, you know what I I've been I haven't been
to as many gyms as you have, Doug, but I've
been into enough that if you have a pickup game
and there's a team out there, that team can out
of ten games, the best team there could win nine times.
Like the other team's gonna get a game, you know,
sometimes maybe to you know, to ten, twenty one, whatever

(11:07):
the case is, it's gonna happen. Someone's gonna swap out,
but a team's gonna be stacked. Someone's gonna get a game.
And that's all I feel that it was in the
type of game that Cleveland got Boston just was you know,
they're awful, Yes.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
They're right, they're awful, but I it's like it's like
people freak out when the Knicks were awful one game.
That's why it's a seven game series. You know.

Speaker 5 (11:29):
No, I'm not the greatest guy to talk to because
I get counted the Nuggets for dead and call them
frauds after the two to zero. But in the other series, yes, yes,
Cleveland getting a game, like in the moment. In the moment,
it's a big deal because guess what, it's tied up
at one apiece. But when we look back in history
and you're looking at Wikipedia and you're looking at the

(11:50):
you know, the twenty twenty four playoffs, all that it's
gonna read is, oh, Boston won that in five games.
For one, It's just the immediacy of.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
It, agreed. I just it's a weird way to look
at a franchise. And it's again, it's okay to win
a championship, but it's like like Lebron James, how successful
have they been during the same time span and he's
had Anthony Davis on his team. It's just a weird

(12:19):
way to look at what's inarguably an incredibly successful franchise,
one that's built on consistency. Now, again, that may not
be good enough for people. And I don't know if
they're capable of winning a championship. They should be massive
favorites to get to the NBA finals, But it's weird,
like they they you're disappointed in another Celtics win that's

(12:43):
a weird way to look at it.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
I I was just gonna say this, Like I think
at times though, with Boston, what we do is we
try to set out the perfect path for them. How
can we make it the easiest path of resistance for
them to win a title? And sometimes if you're just
a team, you just got to go and win games.
You just gotta go win. You got to beat that

(13:05):
better other team. And if you do that, you're gonna
win and you're gonna be a champion. And that's what
I think. You know, sometimes we look at the Celtics,
who are, okay, well, if they get this team, then
they get the Calves and now, gosh, if you can
face the six seed, you know, Pacers, Like, what's the
easiest path for them to get a title? And sometimes
for your team, you just got to go out and
win the stupid game.

(13:58):
Runs First dot Com. Okay, so the Timberwolves were up
two games none. Now the Nuggets have taken a commanding
three games to two series lead. I do think the
Wolves bounce back and get a win tonight. I do,
But man, has this been special? And it's interesting, you know,

(14:20):
like we celebrated, we celebrated Anthony Edwards, and Anthony Edwards
seems to have just a great, fun, energetic personality. But
the Wolves are feeling themselves a little bit, right. We've
all kind of anybody who's alive, especially guys you've been
through a moment where you felt yourselves. We're like, man,

(14:42):
that's good man, we got this going. But careful about
poking the bear, right, careful poking the bear. And they
poked the bear and the bear has woken up. I mean,
and it's interesting, like right, like they could win this series?

(15:03):
Four games to two, much like the Calves can win
their series four games to two. I mean the mean
the Celtics beat the Calves four games to two. But
this will be celebrated as opposed to we just talked
about the Celtics where you're like, yeah, they won four
games to two, but that interesting and they're defending champs.

(15:27):
But what a counter punch from from Denver, Holy Cow,
what an absolute CounterPunch. Speaking of CounterPunch, Sean Merriman is
going to join us upcoming in the show. Couldn't have
Phoenix waste ray on the actual roads of Phoenix, so
the traffic is so ridiculous Doug Gottlieb Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. You heard us talking about him earlier.

(15:48):
He's the one only lights out e Sean Merriman. He
joins us here in the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Sean, how are you?

Speaker 3 (15:55):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (15:55):
What's up?

Speaker 2 (15:57):
I'm really really good. You played in this league. You
excelled in this league. We're simply fans of this league.
Did guys in the league care about the schedule?

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (16:08):
But now for the reason why people think right not?
You know, like it's a game within the game. So
obviously you're looking at the teams, right, and you kind
of marking on your calendar. But guys will never say
this publicly, but you're looking at some of the teams
of the players you might have had problems with the
year before, right, Maybe a guy cut blocks you or
threw you over pile after the play was over. Why
receiver was talking trash? You know, maybe a coach you know,

(16:30):
did a play when they were already up about fourteen
points and tried to score. So nobody, you know, players
will never come out and say that, but we are
definitely in the locker room, like okay sixty eight, Okay, yeah,
that's the guy that hit us after the player, that's
the dirty guys. So there, you know, those guys are
getting mocked off from the previous year to happen before.
So that's why the schedule does matter, at least inside
the locker room.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Okay, So what about the overseas travel and how do
you think it affects guys? Right, because this is the
first year. I'll give you an example. The Packers going
to play the Eagles in South Pawel of Brazil. Now
it's a Friday night, so they get a little bit
more time to get kind of their legs back under them.
But there is no bye week that follows it, or
obviously a bye week. Bye week does precede it because

(17:13):
nobody plays now, a lot of teams don't even play
in the preseason. But how do you think that type
of travel, that type of atmosphere, a day in which
we've never had NFL football on a Friday and week
one of the season, how do you think that affects
both of those teams.

Speaker 6 (17:29):
It's not that big of a deal. And you know
I play. I play for coaches that you know they
will fly to two plus days before game. And then
that's the mescal in the States. Now, if you're going
across country across the pond, if you time it right
and gods are going out there week before you, your
body's adjusted by that third day, just like anybody else's
travels abroad in the world. Right, it takes a couple

(17:49):
of days. The problem is when you get back home, right,
that's the time that you need to recoup and get
back together because that that time happens. And look, at
some point in time, it will be a team in
the UK, they will be a team in Germany, there
will be a team in New Mexico. It is coming
in the next five ten plus years. It's going to happen.
And what's going to happen is, you know, those teams

(18:10):
are traveling. They were building their practice schedule to get
there early, get there week before and then make sure
that they have either a bye week or they have
somewhere on the same coast and maybe go to the
next team that on that coast and not go home.
But it is coming. The NFL is what and there's
a reason why they're expanding all over the world, these
in these in these countries, because at some point in time,

(18:31):
there's going to be other teams in other countries, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
About it, no question about it, no question about it.
So remarkably, remarkably impressive how they've kind of smartly expanded
slowly and played more and more of these games, and
they've kind of ramped up the amount of attention and
the energy at these games. And obviously Germany last year,
we'll see Brazil should be very interesting this year. Sean

(18:54):
Merriman is our guest here, of course, you know him.
His lights out, he's got lights out extreme fighting. We'll
get to that in a second. Okay, what about the Chargers,
the team you pay a ton of attention to. How
about their first game of the season is against well,
there are trival the Raiders. Who has their former GM
I think.

Speaker 6 (19:11):
But we two thousand and six, we opened up Monday
night football against the Raiders and it was probably my
my biggest game of my career. We obviously we know
the hate there, right, it's a divisional game, but there's
a different kind of hate when it comes to the
Chargers and the Raiders, mostly starting from the fans.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
Now.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
I know it's a little different than they moved to Vegas, man,
but there's a lot of underlying hate between the two
fan base and two teams in this Raider week. And
I'll tell you, man, starting off this year and having
Antonio appears in that locker room, he's gonna have those
guys ready to go. But that's the only way to start.
He's not in again. I think the NFL, we talked
about how good they are, they've done it again. They

(19:48):
right with with the Ravens and and case uh, Chargers
and Raiders. They're started out and this is what makes
the NFL so good at what they do. In the
scheduling and then a build up because we've turned this
schedule into like movie premieres, right Like we're talking about
these games like build up to big action pack movies,
and that's what the NFL is leading to.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, it's it's really interesting. I mean, you know, you
get Aaron Rodgers back on Monday Night to start the season,
just like last year, this year on the road, on
the road instead. What about the Bears. You know we're
gonna get Chancey, Kayleb Williams. They're opening up at home.
How much difference? How much different is it? I mean,
obviously Week two you go to last year's great rookie quarterback,
you take on the Texans. But what do you think

(20:30):
about Caleb Williams opening up his career at home in Chicago,
which should be pretty warm, warm day at Soldier Field.

Speaker 6 (20:39):
All lives are gonna be on him, and just beware,
and I'm telling everybody right now, they're going to be
covering the training camp, every single path that he throws,
whether it's complete and complete, we'll.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Be talked about.

Speaker 6 (20:50):
It will be a walking, talking reality show to come
to Kayleb Williams because he's the most I think in
my opinion, he's the most scrutinized player to come out
of college in the last you know, five years, we've
never seen and I'm talking about good or bad. I mean,
he's the greatest thing flight Bent. Also, he's a problem
his character, everything else. And you know, I just even
before the first game come, he's gonna be talked about

(21:12):
like a reality show. They're going to be covering step
to step basis, so all live is going to be
on him. And if he plays well, he's gonna flip
a lot of the narrative back in people's say. I'm
hoping them success, but again, if he doesn't, people can't
wait to light him up because that dude has a.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Lot of hate.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Lights Out Extreme lights Out sixteen is coming up this Saturday,
May eighteenth, streaming on lights Out Sports, lights Out Sports
Free Sports TV by athletes for fans. Tell them about
the card we're gonna watch on lights Out sixteen.

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Yeah, we would have got a huge fight May eighteenth
and Long Beach, California. You guys can get your tickets
at lights out accept dot com. This is our biggest
one for a couple of reasons. I do believe we
got two or three guys, especially on this main main
event co main event that will end up in the
USC at some point. The other thing is lights Out
Sports Team, as you just said that. Uh, it's my
free multi sports uh streaming service. Uh. There will be

(22:05):
live lights Out streaming.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Fight will be live there.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
But we also got Outdoor America and speed Vision. You know,
we got Chess TV, PNA Wrestling, Glory, Kickbox for Combat,
you name it. So I wanted to create a locker
room vibe of sports. I'm still a subscriber to those
other streaming services, uh, but there's very few places you
can go out here where it's just sports, and we
feel like we could be the number one in this space.

(22:28):
We're working with some great partners and you can get
us some ro Coul, Amazon, Fire, Apple TV, We're on Io, S, Android, shon,
kind of busy on some other bigger platforms, Comcasts on
the Way and Zoomo and so I can't wait, man.
We uh not only nationally distribution, distribution, but international. You know,
the next three months you've been to get us all
over the world. So, uh, download lights Out Sports TV

(22:50):
U any one of those major TV platforms you have.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
He's the one. He's the only Sean Merrivin Seans. Last thing,
what do you do with tua Okay, you're you're you're
the Dolphins. You know he's had injuries. I don't know
if you like him or you love him, but they
are they seem invested. On the other hand, you want
to be cautious with how many years and how much money?
What do you do for your the Dolphins.

Speaker 6 (23:14):
I think at some point the NFL pahoul started getting
involved because it's getting out of hand. And I'm not
taking a shot at tuaa I'm not, you know, taking
a shot at Dak Prescott. I know that Deshaun Watson
to kind of set the market or whatnot. But as
you said, you got to you got a guy that
that's Benandrew been banged up some uh, and he's guarantees
is going to be handed out. There's no guarantees really, uh.

(23:35):
And more importantly, you know, for the running back position
to be so devalued and some of the other players
getting valued, and you've got some of these guys are
making fifty sixty plus million a year with no guarantee
that they're gonna be healthy. And now you got a
run it back like, uh, uh you know, Henry Uh
there and and with the rapist is making eight a year.
This guy's getting hit thirty times a game, and so

(23:56):
I think the nfl PA needs a step in at
some point. I'm not I love when guys get paid,
but when you're when you're devue you another position, when
it's going to one player, it doesn't make any sense.
Football is still in a team game. So and they're
stuck by the way, they're stuck, and they're gonna they're
gonna have to pay him or because there's nobody else
in the market they can accept them and do what
he's doing right now. So it's unfortunate for the other guys.

(24:17):
I'm happy for him to get any player to get paid,
but at some point in time they got to stop
step in and slow this thing down.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Awesome stuff. Sean Merriman, Lights Out sixteen. You know where
to get it. You just you just heard it, of course.
Uh coming up this Saturday, Uh streaming on Lights Out Sports,
Lights Out Sports Free Sports TV by Athletes for fans. Shine,
you are the best man. Have a great day. Thanks
for joining us.

Speaker 6 (24:39):
You got thanks having me.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Thoroughbred Racing has a new independent regulator HAISA that is
implementing comprehensive reforms of sports, combining hands on care with
cutting edge technology help keep athletes safe. Learn more of
his Safety Runs First dot com. It's Safety Runs First
dot com. You know what's fascinating about about sports and
about Honestly, I was thinking about the w NBA in
the first game and how we talked about it a

(25:02):
couple of days ago. It was it was musty TV.
Was uh with Sam? Did you say it was a
two screen night? Is that right? Screen night? Yeah? Can
anybody tell me when the next w NBA game is on?

Speaker 5 (25:17):
Today?

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Is it? Did you did? I mean you knew, But
what about guys? Did you know?

Speaker 3 (25:26):
No?

Speaker 5 (25:26):
I didn't.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Look, Yeah, I mean, look, what what you're gonna run
into again is Look, it's just the reality of it.
I mean, it has been a sport and and it's
not getting covered up like the NFL covers it up.
Although the NFL is covered up at the end of
the year, and they started this thing early because they
have the Olympics coming up. But the reality to it

(25:50):
is like her next game is noon on ABC on Saturday.

Speaker 7 (25:53):
No, it's today, It's so it is it's four pm Prime.
The thing is this Prime Video. So it's like your
own being buried even more.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Now, that's that's going to be fascinating in terms of
the numbers, right, And I know people think they cook
the numbers. I don't think they do. So she plays today, Yep,
I had no idea.

Speaker 7 (26:12):
Four Pacific, seven Eastern on Prime Video Fever hosting Liberty.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
So is there a home opener or did they did
they were they at home.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
The other night?

Speaker 5 (26:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (26:20):
It was on the road in Connecticut.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Okay, So they turn around they play the Liberty at.

Speaker 7 (26:25):
Home and again they're a big dog, eight and a
half point dog.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
If you're betting on the WNBA, right, we know what
that means. If you're betting on the WNBA, you have
a problem. Yes, you have a problem.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
That I disagree. That tells me that you're sharp, that
you are betting. Because that used to be in it.
I think it still is the case. That's where good
betters can make your money because there's not as much
information about it. People don't know about it. There's a
guy fifteen years ago used to come on this network,

(27:01):
and I know because it was on the show that
he came on, guy from Orlando would just give us
WNBA picks. And because the handicappers or those who set
the line and lines in Las Vegas really didn't know,
they didn't have that much information on it. So these
lines were just completely off. And I know it sounds
like it's a funny joke for women's basketball, but back

(27:24):
then they would mess up. The over unders just be
way too high for what the actual games were. So yeah,
maybe degenerate and betting a lot of things. I still
think that, hey, if you can find something where you
can make money on makes you a pretty smart person.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Well, Nuggets and Wolves are the same and not the
same time, but that game will be what half over
by the time Nuggets and Wolves start. Obviously, once you know,
once you get into Amazon Prime, it's Amazon Prime. Right.
Once you get into Amazon Prime, you can't get out
to kind of flip back and forth. It takes too long.
You're kind of sequestered audience. I'll be fascinated to see

(28:01):
what the numbers are because as much as Sam you
could say it's you know, like, oh it's buried there.
The numbers for the NFL were good there.

Speaker 5 (28:10):
I'll also also say something like I think we have
to give a little bit of a break. And in
the press, I was going to give you the numbers
from her from her opener for what they had on
Tuesday night, But it wasn't like we tuned into every
single IOWA game conference season in January and February. You know,
grabbed a lot.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
This is.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
You know, maybe when it doesn't go up against the
NBA playoff game in the summertime, maybe if the fever
run off six in a row and all of a
sudden they face the you know, the Las Vegas Aces,
who are the best, maybe maybe that's when we also
then are brought in again.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
But I don't know, I just what's the expression on
when you have a fever?

Speaker 7 (28:52):
Right?

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Don't you sweat out a fever and you something.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
The FETA cold? Yeah? Uh yeah, it's yeah, one of those.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah, somebody's got to use that on Sports Center if
they're if they were clever enough co.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
Star a fever feet a cold star fever feeder Cold.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, m MM hmmmmmmm mm hmmm,
Well migos for you pour some out for takeoff? Huh yeah?

Speaker 6 (29:36):
What I mean?

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Did they did they replace? Do you replace takeoff?

Speaker 6 (29:39):
Like?

Speaker 2 (29:39):
What do you do with your migos with takeoff? So
sad and it was over like basketball, right, let's get
to the press, the press, damn buy what you got?

Speaker 5 (29:58):
Can I give you my John thing before you get
into that that.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Show again for people whoren't listening. Okay, I asked, what
the heck happened to John Rahm? Anyway? The answer is
your theory or your hypotheils.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Well so, so rom early in his career was very,
very fiery. You know, he would just blow up and
there was actually not concern, but you wonder, all right,
if you know, can you handle can you handle your
emotions in a major championship setting? Because he was just
he was, He was fiery. He would really get out

(30:32):
himself for mistakes, and you wondered if that was going
to hinder him. He put in a lot of work
to not be that sort of guy. But I also
think that with that take the edge off.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
You know, he's your edge.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
I think that. But I also think Doug like sometimes
like there's this there's this part and I don't want
to say it's sensitivity because it makes it, but I
do think that he is. He could be sensitive to
some things, and I think that he has a really
good outlook on life in the world, and I think
he's great, and that's why this move to Live was
so out of character of him. And I think that

(31:08):
the criticism gets to him. And I think that the
criticism of him going to live while within Live, if
you look at his results, while he hasn't won, he's
been in the top ten, the top five pretty consistently.
It's his second tournament now in mixed company when he's
on the other side, and he had a comment that
he made it was yesterday or the day before that

(31:29):
got some on the Golf Channel. Aaron Oberhols are one
of them really fired up when when Rom said, I'm
still a member of the PGA Tour. I'm just suspended
because I joined Live, which just doesn't make any sense
at all. But it feels like there is this sense
of him still wanting to be on that other side.
And I feel like in this mixed company of seeing
the old faces and granted that it's not a PGA

(31:52):
Tour event, but I think it kind of gets to him.
And I think in this first two results that you're
seeing he died for forty fifth at the Master's or
he was the defending MP, and now here at the
PGA where he's tied for one hundred and thirtieth. I
think that plays into it. So there's my there's my hypothesis.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Also there is there is also the There is also
the possibility, okay, that he doesn't like wearing the black hat.
You know, like some guys just don'tren't built for that. Yes,
you know, they're just not I mean Lebron James is
not built for that. You know, he doesn't like being
the vic he doesn't like being the villain. And he's

(32:33):
an all time great and John Rahm is an incredible golfer.
I think there's that's that's part of it. Everyone says
they want that. Everyone says, I mean, this is Brad Beal.
It's not the black hat. But Brad Beal thought he
wanted to play at the highest level of the NBA.
Then he gets highest level the NBA. And I think
part of the reason he played so poorly, especially in
that last game when they got eliminated, was the realization

(32:53):
that I wasn't ready for this.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
I think Rom when he jumped ship, thought there was
going to be an agreement. Now they seem to be
further apart, maybe than ever on actually blending the two tours,
and that doesn't seem like it's a possibility. And now
you're here in this setting, and I do think that
it gets to them. But either way, right now, John
Ramas plus three twelve back of the lead held by
Xander Schoffley. All right. Two point one million people watched

(33:18):
Caitlin Clark's WNBA debut on ESPN two on Tuesday. That's
the most ever for a game on ESPN two, breaking
the mark that had stood for almost twenty years, which
was Diana Tarassi's debut in two thousand and four with
the Phoenix Mercury. But two point one million people watched
The Fever and Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
So that's great numbers. Amazing numbers. I remember it was
on versus the NBA. Those are amazing numbers. Now again
the question becomes, do people go back for a second
viewing and they continue to watch Caitlin Clark or do
they watch other WNBA games? Maybe that I think That's

(34:02):
probably the most interesting part is what about the rest
of the league to people pay attention to people care
because have you heard anybody mention anyone else's name except
for aj Wilson who apparently doesn't like Caitlin Clark and
got a new shoe, right that, Like, that's it. So
it's fascinating, Like we're told women's sports on the rise,
and there's no denying that she is a force of nature,

(34:23):
but there is some denial over are people in the
league or they just into Caitlin Clark Iowa.

Speaker 7 (34:28):
Sam as a question, Dan, I'm curious what were the
numbers for the game that came right after the fever
versus Son? Good question, Sam, the uh how did those compare?
Because it was like, right, it was a little bit
of postgame analysis, then went right into the Mercury game.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
The game between Phoenix and Las Vegas averaged four hundred
and sixty four thousand. Whoa ye, big drop off there.

Speaker 7 (34:51):
Click over to the NBA.

Speaker 5 (34:53):
Yeah, we're we're reporting on Kaitlin Clark's games here on
Fox Sports Radio. Well it's yeah, it's a story, and
I think it'll be more of a story when when
the NBA maybe goes by the wayside, you know, in
the summertime when there's not as much going on as well,
I think it'll draw by the way. Speaking of Caitlin Clark,

(35:14):
the Atlanta Dream have announced that their two home games
against the Fever will no'll be played at the State
Farm Arena in June and Augustin. Did the Sparks do
the same thing? They moved there? Do they move their game?

Speaker 7 (35:29):
It went from Long Beach what is it the Pyramid.
There's a five thousand seat arena.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
They met to Pyramid that's a Lumbach state yeap, and.

Speaker 7 (35:37):
They moved it back to Crypto, which is nineteen thousand
plus to accommodate demand.

Speaker 5 (35:42):
Tom Brady will reportedly not have any limitations on games
he can work as a broadcaster for Fox, despite him
having a deal to become a part owner of the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Yeah, you just can't make jokes about his ex wife.
That's it.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
That's true. Finally, this Cleveland dot Com says Donovan Mitchell
grew from frustrated with some teammates and their lack of
maturity and focus during the season and into the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, I mean they're going to fire JB. Bickerstaff. I
think most people know that Donovan Mitchell wants out of there.

Speaker 5 (36:12):
I just.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
He can go frustrate all he wants. They were in
position to win that series, and then he got hurt.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
He didn't like their cavalier attitude. Ah, and that is
the press. BA, get out there and press.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
That was the press.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
Are you aren't you the same guy who also didn't
like Tundradome.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Ah, yes, I didn't.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Thank you like Tundradome too cheesy, but cavalier attitude for
the Cleveland Cavaliers not too cheese.

Speaker 5 (36:41):
I think if you'd ask the other guys as well,
they'd side with cavalier attitude.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
I like cavalier attitude, but I also liked Hundredome. I
really did. Got a great podcast for you. Download it
right now after the show It goes live top of
the hour. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show, only available
