(01:03):
Sometimes not even the world of sports. Things we love
from the weekend. Things we hated the weekend? We call
it love and hate.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
What did you love?
Speaker 4 (01:10):
God?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I love you and what did you hate?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
We need these player haters.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Love love, love, hate, hate hate. We know who a
resident hater is, our resident lover? Well that's one Dan
byer Dan, what'd you love from the weekend?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
You guys ready for this? I'm gonna tell you something
that you may not have known were about much stuff.
I cheer for Canadian teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
I want them to win a cup. I want a
team to win a Cup. I have said on the
show before that if I was a hockey fan, there's
(01:48):
a pretty good chance that probably be a Maple Leafs fan,
the drought everything that comes with them. But I also
have an affinity for the six other teams, specifically the
Winnipeg jack And I'm so glad that Winnipeg got a team,
you know what a decade or so ago, and the
Atlanta Thrashers moved back to Winnipeg after they had previously
(02:11):
left for Phoenix. So the Winnipeg Jets are back. And
last night, sorry Saint Louis, but to have Winnipeg score
at home in a Game seven with under two seconds
left to force overtime, and then in double overtime to
(02:31):
score the game winner. Have that placerup to see. I
feel like the NHL has been the I know Kansas
City did it with soccer, but when you have the
fans gather like a certain spot, I feel that's also
been like a kind of an NHL thing as well.
They were gathering in Winnipeg and you see them celebrating
(02:51):
when it's still light out, and you see them still
there three and a half hours later because it's in
double overtime and it's nighttime. But to see Winnipeg survive
and win Game seven when they were a second and
a half away from being eliminated amazing. And right now
the eight teams left, three are from Canada, so we'll
(03:14):
see if Edmonton, Winnipeg or Toronto can finish it off.
But I was I was very happy to see that.
I wanted Winnipeg to win that series, and they rallied
and scored a couple of late goals, including the one
with the second left, and then won at an overtime.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Cole Perfetti, Yep, he had the game tire No. Two
goals no relation to Chris Purfett here at Fox Sports Radio. Yes,
just adds an eye on the end. You know, he
is not a huge guy. He's only about five to
eleven to eighty five perfet no Cole Perfetti kind of
looks like a ball boy, but very good hockey player,
but not huge, not big dude.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
I personally have.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
A love for Winnipeg boys.
Speaker 6 (03:51):
I personally have loved for Winnipeg. I spent a weekend
there once shooting a scene with Gina Gershaan for everything
she ever wanted a mini series for a lifetime, You
lucky dog. So because that experience I root for Winnipeg.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Can we see that anywhere? Can we see the clip
on on YouTube?
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Or I'll send you guys a clip right now. Okay,
I'm told it was a love scene.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
If you don't like it or reshare it, then I'll
just assume you hated it.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
Oh. I'm a geography guy. I love geography. There's actually
my major in college. But I don't know where Winnipeg is.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Winnipeg is basically like do you know where Grand Forks,
North Dakota is? Fargo, Northwatore Sure like Grand Forks is
north of Fargo, north straight north. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
My buddy was based in the Air Force in Grand
Forks for a while. He goes, they'd go up to
Winnipeg and party because the drinking age there was eighteen
back in the day.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Okay, I've been to Ontario and I've been to Toronto
one time.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
How far drive is it from Grand Forks?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
I I don't know. I didn't I didn't make the
drive myself.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
But it's on the road to Regina, is it? Yes?
What was that? Regina?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Winnipeg's in Manitoba, Regina's in Saskatchewan.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
It is, but it's the same like road. Yeah, you
go down this road, I guess. I just part of
it is everybody likes you go Winnipeg, Regina.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
That's how's pronounced it.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Regina, Calgary or Calgary which is over now Berta.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
It's like a two and a half hour drive according
to Google Maps, two and a half hour drive.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
From Winnipeg to Regina. How many times can I get
in Regina into the show?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Okay? So Regina is due west of Winnipeg, yes, and
Grand Forks is basically due south of Winnipeg.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Yes. And then there's Lake Winnipeg, which looks gigantic, probably
beautiful in the summer.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I've been meaning to get up to that that banff.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Is it called Bam Bam, It's that lake that's like
Crystal Blue, Clear Blue Band National four, I think it's band.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Where is that? What's Also it's very close to Lake
Manitoba as well. Lake Manitoba, Manitoba.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
Pipe still frozen up there in Manitoba about this time
of year.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Probably probably no Sammy, what do you got uh make
it snow? Were like, we are the we are teenage boys.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
They I've I remember I remember listening to some news
piece and they're like, our pipes are frozen half the year,
That's what they say. But sure it gets very nice
up there, but a little buggy, you know, Alaska gets buggy,
and a lot of those bugs they just sort of
laid dormant for a while. Big surprise here, guys. My
love of the weekend was Caitlin Clark's return to Iowa
City with the Fever, playing the Brazilian national team that
(06:48):
I assume did not have any of its real stars
because they're probably with their respective w NBA teams, So
it was not a good game, but It was a
lot of fun too, uh, especially before the game started.
A lot of people there. It was a sell out,
you know, tickets sold out real fast. And again, not
a great game. It was like one oh six. It
(07:10):
was a sixty point beat down. But Kaylyn Clark had
some fun shots. He had a thirty six footer which
made it like ninety to thirty three or something. So
it was fun for three quarters and then you know,
it was a good time though.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
Any of you guys know what the uh? I don't
know what do you call it? The theme of this
year is for the WNBA because last year was more
than a moment. The alliteration was appreciated, but it was
also kind of a shot at Caitlin Clark. You know,
this league is more than this moment. And what's the
theme this year?
Speaker 5 (07:45):
I got nothing continuing the moment.
Speaker 6 (07:47):
We admit it was just a moment. Do you think
that's the theme.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I think it's just the moment. I think it's just
the two of us, because again, there were two people
who rose the game of women's basketball, not one, there
were two, So just the two of us.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
I think, uh, Sam, that was Sam? What about you?
Speaker 6 (08:08):
Jayse dou Russell Westbrook. And I know every listener right
now is like banging on their dashboard because I used
Russell Westbrook as my love just two weeks ago. I
don't mean to be redundant, but he keeps doing fun things.
I'm gonna say this again, Doug has an issue with
him as a coach, and he probably is a very
flawed basketball player. But I don't know if there's anyone
(08:31):
that I go out of my way to watch more
than Westbrook. So that's something like.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
You'd rather watch him than Step.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
Yeah, the energy, that the way he disrupts. I know
that's a trigger word for the left. Now he's a disruptor,
he's a but he's so fun to watch. Like again,
you could always bring energy, effort, and hustle to a
game and he he encapulates, capsulates that.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I think the of that, And Doug, I don't know
if you can appreciate this or not from your coaching position.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
I can't appreciate anything.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Well, you don't know what I'm gonna say, but there
are people who like college sports more than pros because
it's not as clean, like there's a there's an up
and down with that, and I think like with Russell Westbrook.
There's also the good and the bad with it. Isn't
that appealing as well? Like when was it? I can't
remember the game exactly, but wasn't there a game where
(09:26):
he missed the layup threw the ball away at the end,
Like you're waiting for that moment And I think that
can't appeal to people. I don't know, Jason, if that's
your exact thing, but some people like college because, yeah,
it's eighteen to nine year olds. They're not perfect, They're
gonna make mistakes.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
I don't think that's why people like college, but I
do understand what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
No, there are that is I'm not saying that's the
only reason to hear Dan on that one. There are
some people who prefer the college game to say watching
the pros because it isn't perfect, It isn't as clean,
it's flawed. Yes, so.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
It's sind went natural as opposed to like eighties on natural,
as opposed to women. Now what we're talking about.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
You just feel like you don't know what's going to happen.
There's more drama because the unthinkable could happen because they're
not Maybe maybe as it's just not as perfect as clean, unpolished, unpolished.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
I I mean, I I don't know how you couldn't
love the Warriors and the and the win last night
and watching Steph Curry, and it did just trigger the
what what happened with the Olympics last year? With the
four straight threes? Right where in that game he didn't
play well and then you get to the fourth quarter
(10:39):
and all of a sudden, he hits these four straight
threes and you're like, well, okay. And last night I
thought he played well, played a good floor game, but
didn't score well, and then all of a sudden, just
a barrage of points and assists and it was incredible.
I I loved every every second of that game, and
just a way in which they handled the pressure of
(11:01):
the moment and smiled through it. Yes, Draymond Green can
be an annoying player. I totally get it. But his
a younger, more annoying version of him was on the
other side, So it made Draymond, for whatever reason, less annoying. Yes,
let's get the way he hated from the weekend. Our
resident hater is other than Jason Stewart, who will begin
(11:24):
Jase dou.
Speaker 6 (11:28):
I saw this over the weekend. I know this was
growing through last week, but the news on this item
and Dan probably has all the details on this, he
was hosting shows all weekend. But I want to say
that Abduall Carter from Penn State either asked for phil
Simms number eleven or phil Simms offered it and then
there was a discussion within the family and they're like, no,
(11:49):
we don't want to give the rookie our number. It's retired.
The keyword is retired. This was after Abduall Carter asked
Lawrence Taylor for number fifty six and was reject did
well done? You know what, I'm going to shove a
lot of this take and just save it for in
the bonus. It just speaks to how gen z is.
(12:12):
I was having a dinner with a couple over the
weekend and their couple was The couple was bemoaning the
fact that their sixteen year old didn't want to use
the same starter car that their eighteen year old did.
He wanted a better car, he wanted a different car.
And the reason shouldn't you want to make me happy?
And That's what I'm doing. A Carter's thing is gen
(12:33):
z is all about their own happiness as opposed to
thinking of what happened before them or what's happening around them.
It's about meat, and this is a great example of that.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
I think it's disrespectful to the guys that were really
good Giants as well in terms of Okay, I'm better
than justin talking Michael Strahan ocr like, I'm already past them.
I'm at LT's level. It's absurd.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
No, you should have a couple of good years, like
a couple of incredible years. And people go like, man,
maybe should you know, I'm all for the Hey, best
linebacker on the Giants wearing fifty six if they're anywhere
near the level of LT. But like, dude, you just
got drafted.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
I'd like to introduce a new word to our common
vernacular or lexicon.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Gen z.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
You say, hey, that's gen z like gen z, but
it's jens. That's a little gen z.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Gen zing, gen z jen sing. No, gen z jen
sing still a thing? Do you still take that for energy?
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Gen sing?
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (13:40):
I mean you know what, I'm back And I took
it in high school, and I didn't take it in college,
and I wasn't as good as shooting the basketball in college.
It was high school. Maybe it's the gen Singh. Is
gen Singh still a thing?
Speaker 6 (13:51):
I don't know if it is. I think I just
got a call on the hotline from Metros. The gen
Singh is still a thing.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
I think you can go to g NC to get Jensing.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I feel like any open field in Wisconsin, like in
two thousand and maybe nineteen nineties, was Oh, they're putting
Jensen in Gensing field.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
Oh, actually, like raise it as a crop. Yeah, you
grow it, Yeah, because it goes into like energy drinks.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Very popular back in the day. I don't see as
many Jensen fields are out.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
No, the fields are filled up with a different sort
of herbal substance.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Maybe.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
But if a kid is doing something gen Z, you
could say that's gen Z gens new word.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Okay, thank you? Was that part of your things? You
hate it for the weekend? No, but he's.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Got other contributions to the show.
Speaker 5 (14:34):
Doug, you just wait, Oh, perhaps we'd like to start
with Dan.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Go ahead, Dan, So, Doug, you weren't privy to this
group text because you weren't privy to this conversation about
Christopher Cross and yacht rock in the and the job
the genre that we've had over the last weeks. Sorry,
And it was Christopher Cross's birthday on Saturday. I turned
(15:00):
seventy four years old.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
I had an idea. Why was I not privy to that?
I love yacht rock, but you're not.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
You weren't in on our conversations because you're in Green
Bay and we're here in southern California. So that's why.
So Sam sends a picture of the Christopher Cross tweet,
saying many thanks for all the birthday wishes. Sam goes,
weren't you guys talking about this dude, like the disrespect.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
The disrespect to Chris Cross.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
This dude, you say Chriss Cross. I think of the
I think of that Joe that.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
We don't say because you're kissing, we say Christopher Cross
with their pants on the back cords. That's it's Christopher Cross.
We didn't say Criss Cross. And so you're a disrespect too.
I wasn't to his work. I didn't know it was
like dude like that, like that.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Cross a dude. He's a dude.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
He's a very gen z.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
Yeah it is gen z, I said, but we agree.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Listen.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
I saw this on social media and then I photo
I photo grabbed it and I sent it to you.
So I actually was thinking of Christopher Cross, and I
was almost like trying to be hey, guys, look at
who I saw.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Weren't you guys talking about him? Yeah, perfectly, But this dude,
he's just some random guy. He was a guitarist for Ringo. Tweet.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
No, I thought it was very I thought it was
very dismissive. And I encourage I encourage Sam and our
listeners to watch the yacht Rock documentary. It explains just
how big a deal Christopher Cross's debut album was. It
won like nine Grammys, It sold a ton of units.
It was an incredible like thing. It was a phenomenon
(16:39):
back in nineteen eighty is that when it came out.
And that didn't even include the Arthur's theme, Which that's
another tangent. I have seen Arthur, have seen that. I
don't remember the theme though, So I'm gonna I'm gonna.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Listen to this Christopher Cross, the Duke, new Chris Cross,
Duke and new this Chris Cross to him.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Why nigga good? But then the Moon and New.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
York Dad, that seems more like I can't wrap.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I'm not done yet, Sam, I haven't said, although I
want you to rap. Although although I hate that you
were hating on Christopher Cross.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
I wasn't hating. I just didn't know about it.
Speaker 7 (17:18):
I wasn't born yet, okay, just because you weren't born yet.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
It's like, hey, I'm one who I love history and
I go back and listen to music all the way
back to the forties.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
But I did not know about this Christopher Cross.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
Gentlemen, if you're keeping score at homes, Sam has like
five straight things in this segment.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
I'm on a Robert Palmer binge right now. That's who
I've been listening. Did a great metrocs joke, and he
just stepped all.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
He has no idea what you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Go ahead and say it again. I missed it.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
It's not worth it doesn't actually doesn't.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
What did you hate?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
What did I hate? What did I hate? I hate
the Lebron James knee thing. I just do. It reminded me.
We brought it. It came out Friday, and I said
it Friday. It reminds me of when he lost the
NBA Finals in his last year with the Calves, and
all of a sudden, he pops into the press conference
and he's got like a thumb thumbrace on. All of
a sudden, it's like, oh hey, my thumb was hurt
(18:10):
all along. You're like, dude, he's that guy. He's I'm sorry,
he's that guy, and uh, like I get it. I
believe he truly hurt his knee. But now like, I'm
not gonna go with the met gala because my knee
hurts so bad. Like what you can't put on a
(18:35):
you can't put on the tucks, I mean, what exactly
what athletic endeavor is there? And walking up the steps
at the met Gala?
Speaker 5 (18:44):
Come on, man, he could have made the knee brace.
He could have used the knee brace and made it
like really glitzy, you know, like everyone shows up the
metal and bring.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
To the knee brace over.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
Over the pants, diamonds on it.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
You mean, like did Claire Huxtable hurt her toe and
then she had her style off with Cliff and they
did this show and her cast was all dressed up
in emeralds and root lights. Yeah, very good, I remember that.
Speaker 6 (19:09):
I do like how Lebron's tweet today said that his
wife will still be there. Oh cool, So we all
know who is going to be asked by the photographers,
who is that the most tonight.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Unless someone is dressed so absurdly that we don't know
who they are. I get what you're saying. There are
a lot of steps to climb, though. In Lebron's defense
as well.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
There are a lot of steps to climb, no question.
But I mean somehow I think he would survive it right, somehow,
and that is love and hate. For over forty years,
Tyrek has been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive, shit fast and free back
by free road ask Protection, with competing installation options like
mobile tire installation, tyrek dot com Way tire Buying should be.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I mean, you're just
picking out random Chris Christopher Cross songs that you're doing there, Sam,
because you don't you don't know.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
This is recommended by Jason and Dan.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
It's a great song, great song. I just would have
thought you'd come in with the Arthur theme. That's what
I thought you do.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
I said, in the system, we had like sailing and
we had ride like the Wind, and they're like riding.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Sailing is probably his biggest song. I think sailing.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Dan your thoughts, Dan holding up his phone.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
I don't know he sold up his phone. He is
he is he he's on the phone. He's on like speakerphone.
Is he calling Christopher Cross right now and talking about
the blatant disrespect?
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Sorry that was the boss man?
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
No, he wants me to tell you show suspension for
Iowa Sam for the disrespect of Christopher Cross, the great segment,
the great Great it was ignorance.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
And in the words of Shack, I'm sorry, I was
not familiar with your game.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
And in the world of in the word of memes,
we go to the Michael Jordan meme where he's looking
at the looking at the iPad and I and.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
I took that personally, and I took it personally, right, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Yeah, Doug wins.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
Doug, you won. According to the streaming app that I use,
Sailing has two hundred and thirteen million plays and Arthur
Seem has one hundred and fifteen million plays. Significantly. His
most popular song is Sailing You Win Sale.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
I have a terrible singing voice.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
No, we know that. Huh we knew that.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Yes, I know, but I have a terrible singing voice.
But I'm still okay singing. I'm that annoying guy that
knows he can't sing sings anyway. Do you guys sing
at concerts?
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Sure? All the time? Yeah, buyer, Yeah, at times. I
probably won't do the whole song, but a little bit.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
It's a bad one though. When you forget a couple
of words there, you're sitting there going just ay ay, hey,
let's get to damn Bier. Get a quick update. We'll
continue this said this.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Question that's I think the most recent is the Kendrick
Lamar performance of not Like Gosh and then everybody a minor,
you know, like because they don't know all the lines,
but they know that one at the end, right, did
you do.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
That in the near the press area? You just stood
up and set a minor during the minor?
Speaker 2 (22:48):
So I didn't. I also, so Little Kim actually used
that like play on words in an album in the
nineteen nineties. And I feel like the gen Z's right
now think like. It's a new like way, a spin
on words that Kendrick Lamar came up with. Yet Little
Kim had it is one of the actually the first
(23:10):
track you think on her album and gen Z nineties
but now familiar. They would not know anything about that,
So all right, moving on, Moving on. Game one tonight
Eastern Conference Semifinals Nicks and Celtics, seven o'clock Eastern Time,
Western Semi's Game one Nuggets and Thunder nine to thirty
Eastern Utah Jazz on head coach Will Hardy to a
contract extension keeping him in Salt Lake City through twenty
(23:33):
thirty one. The twenty twenty seven NFL Draft will be
held in Washington, d C. On the National Mall between
the Washington Monuments and the US Capitol.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Roger Goodell in the Washington Mall at the National Mall,
they have do they still have hot dog and a stick? There?
They do? Right?
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Yeah? Yeah? They they got all lids right next to
the US Capitol.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
They do.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Then there's another lids down the way by the mind.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Mocker and a foot action very close to you.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
You're not the only one excited about the draft DC,
so was Commissioner Roger Goodell, who was in the Oval
Office with President Trump and Commander's owner Josh Harris when
the announcement was made earlier today, we think we can.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Have a tremendous impact on this community, and it will
not just be an event. It will be something that
will show the world how far the nation's capital has
come and where it's going. So we're very excited about that.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
And if you thought traffic was bad or in that area,
just wait until late April and twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Just an idea. I'm just spitballing here, Okay. So Trump
wants to have like some celebration for himself and like
a one hundred million dollar parade where we do all
the military stuff, right, which seems like a colossal waste.
But hold on, hold on, hold on, can I get
the Dan buyer drop? Hold on?
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Hold on, hold on, hold.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
On, yes, hold on? What have you combined the two? Right?
And so with the first pick in the twenty twenty
seven draft, let's say arch Banning decides to come back
from one more year in its Arch Banning, Arch Maanning comes
in on a cruise missile. All right, I'm just I'm
just But he flies in on a cruise missile.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
Like that that scene from Doctor Strangelove, who's riding the bomb. Yes, yeah,
with a cowboy hat.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Just a thought, just a thought.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
It'll have to be because that place, My goodness. I mean,
we live in Los Angeles. We work at one of
the busiest intersections there is in the entire country. But
my goodness, some of that DC traffic around that area. Roundabouts.
I feel like I handle roundabouts pretty well, you guys,
pretty good.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Wisconsin guy, Wisconsin is like home to more roundabouts than
anywhere else.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Sure, but even there one time I always got clipped
right by the Lincoln Monument on the other side of.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
The river roundabouts and misunderstood.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
I want to say, Orange is one of the more
famous roundabouts.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
And then the circle. Do you say circle of orange?
You say the orange.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
Circle, Orange circle? I think I always said.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Yeah, there used to be a Starbucks in each side
of of the of the circle. It's like you can't
walk ten you gotta walk to another one. I don't know.
Stutg Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, Brett Boone Like, that's
that's Aaron's brother. Another Villa Park alum, right, it was
he Villa Park as well, they're just do I know Aaron.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
Was Aaron Boone and Brett Boone went to two different
high schools, right, I think one was Villa Park and
one was something else.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
I don't know, didn't go to brey Olinda. That's that's
the big that's all that matters. It's all the matters.
So last night the the Warriors are putting on the
rockets and then it was weird, right, like you flip
over and Caitlin Clark's they're playing an exhibition game against
(26:43):
the Brazilian national team. Was not terribly competitive. I will
say it was kind of interesting. Right. They're playing at
i which is brilliant. Love it to play at Iowa.
You know, you had a full house at Carver Hawke Arena.
And then the Fevers uniform Sam, you you probably noticed
this look curiously close to Iowa's uniforms.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Right, yeah, I saw the I think they got all
their colors in there, but there's some some black and some.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Yellow, some red in there as well. There's some red,
and there's the difference. But again, like you had to
kind of look twice and you're like, wait, twenty two
white uniform read the black numbers or black numerals whatever,
and you're like, wait, is this Am I watching this live?
Or is this? And then she hit like a near
mid court shot.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
It was like a few feet before her famous shot
that broke the women's record.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
I believed. Who did Brazil play before this game against
the Fever?
Speaker 1 (27:42):
I don't know, there's that feels like there's a joke
coming here.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
No, they played the Chicago Sky in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
home of Angel Reese and formerly of Haley van Lyth
on Friday night. And so anybody know this is a
concerted effort to uh, to do this tour that way? Well,
I knew I did not everybody obvious idea, but I
put Caitlyn Clark blinders on Iowa Sam.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
No, but I didn't know. I don't have Caitlin Clark blinders.
Friday I was driving, so I wasn't watching.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Did you know, Jason, did you know about that Friday
night game?
Speaker 6 (28:14):
When you last what came before the fever? I was
thinking headache or sore throat.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
That's a good one, that's what that's that's the kind
of cleverness.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
That is very clever, very good.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
So, uh, I have friends in Indy and do you
know their season tickets are sold out and they like
double the price, tripled the price too. It This thing
is nuts. It's nuts. And I think it was Friday
night they played an exhibition game, right, and she didn't play?
Speaker 5 (28:46):
Yeah, precautionary sat out.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Saturday they played against the Mystics.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
I'm sorry, Yes, Saturday, Saturday, Sunday. They actually played three
day weekend. I got a little confused there. I go ahead, Doug, Sorry,
well you had a three day weekend. I was off
on Friday. You didn't notice. I was gone on Friday
my own show what me and Christophett same guy, same person.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Definitely not the same person. We were talking about Detroit things,
So you do Profet was that? Yeah, Detroit, Detroit. Detroit
should have double teamed Jalen Brunson Detroit. Sam, I know
you're gonna watch Jay stew Are you? Are you still
all in on the on the Caitlin Clark thing? Are
you good?
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (29:27):
I'm definitely all in on year two. I want to
see how she does. I want to see how the
league responds. So I'm definitely gonna watch it.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
It's like they all got the memo, though, right, except
for maybe they've all got the memo like, hey, she's
protected class protected class fire. Did you think do you
think they got the memo? And there's no memo by
the way to way Goatliber said, there's a memo like no,
you understand what I'm saying, Like you get the vibe
of like last year, what are we doing? She's gonna
(29:56):
make us all rich.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
I think that we will look look back at last
season as more of a speed bump than anything. Just
remember when they did that, Oh yeah that was whack.
But hey, look at them now. That's what I think
is going to happen. I felt like last year was
like a necessary like even if you're a first round
pick and number one overall, you're still a rookie and
(30:19):
you got to still carry the bags. Now Katelyn Clark
dealt with a lot more than that, obviously, But I
do think that I do not think that the animosity
has enough energy and strength to continue to live on.
And to your point, Doug, it's going to be it's
the same similar to Tiger Woods, Like a lot of
the veterans were not keen on him taking over the
(30:41):
tour and the Curtis Strange clip of saying when Tiger said,
I didn't have my A game, and Curtis Strange's saying, like,
you'll learn. I think everybody else learned. And I feel
like that's going to be the case with Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Yeah, I do. And I feel like there's just a
different It's a lot like your sophomore year. And you know,
guys to come back for their sophomore year, right, they
just everything slows down, it's easier, there's like a there's
almost an a there's a different level of confidence to her,
and there's just a different level of watch And then
they've surrounded with a much better team too. Right, They've
(31:13):
gone through a complete They've they've gotted that thing and
made a transformation.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
And like we see with the Oklahoma City Thunder. I
don't know if this is going to be a normal
thing or a constant thing. But last night, when I
think she was being interviewed, her teammates were around her.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Yep, yeah they were, and she was she was being
pretty deferential.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Sure, but like that's one of the great things about
the Thunder is their postgame local interviews that they do
and the team standing around and having a good time.
Could you imagine this happening a year ago of the
team standing behind Caitlin Clark while because everybody wants to
talk door, No, I think there's absolute different vibe.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
Yes, Doug, Yes, And you watched some of that game,
I mean have you noticed any tweaks to her shot,
because I mean, yeah, she.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Changed, she changed some during the season last year, and
then during her break she was she was she was
shooting the ball right like we talked about, she was
shooting the ball more on the left side of her
head when she was getting ready to she had kind
of and and now it's more underneath the basketball. So
and she's uh four six from three. Yeah, and then
you know what what you're what you do is what
(32:17):
you're taught to do. Is you know, the further out
you shoot, you can lower it some instead of getting
it over lower you have a little bit more power.
But yeah, I mean she's gonna be she should be
better across the board, and her team is better. So
but it's just more that like who on a Sunday
in May is watching at w NBA preseason game. I
never would have ever. Then I was like, I gotta
(32:38):
I gotta see I got it. And then you feel
like we're rewarded for doing.
Speaker 5 (32:41):
It and her uh the Indiana Fever tweet where she
takes that thirty six footer and it probably has like
seven million views now, I mean it was just as
of yesterday, ended about four So it's it's people care people.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Coming up next to The Doug Gotleb Show, Greg Popovich
has spoken publicly for the first time since his stroke
in November. What he say you hear next?
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
That's Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Every day. At
this time, we close up shop on the show by
getting all the big storylines of the day and reacted
to him. We call it the press the press. What
do you got there?
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Dan Byer Doug san Antonio. Spurs president Greg Popovich spoke
publicly today for the first time since suffering a stroke
in November. He has since stepped aside his head coach,
doing so last week, but he'll remain on his team.
President Sammy may have to pop down the music a
little bit because the audio is a little bit echoey
on this, but we heard from Greg Popovich again for
(33:49):
the first time publicly since early November.
Speaker 8 (33:51):
Timmy and Lono. Of course we've been here for all
of my workouts here at the Rock. They say it's
because they love me and they want to be there
in case I fall or catch me and that sort
of thing.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
I call it payback.
Speaker 8 (34:06):
Say you have the rehab people new ideas of things
to do to me, so you're not fooling anybody.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Especially you to me.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Flanked by Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan, who helped Popovich
to the stage, had at a slower time walking getting
up there, didn't need assistant assistants. Popovich did say the
team is total faith and new head coach Mitch Johnson,
as they believe he'll continue doing the things they have
done previously in the organization.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Uh, you know, it's obviously anytime people age, it can
be hard to watch the stroke thing. I mean it's
really interesting, right, like you can make complete and full
recovery from a stroke. But he he did not, I mean,
he did not look well.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Did that make you a little sad?
Speaker 5 (34:52):
Doug seeing Manu and Tim flanking him, and they all,
you know, Tim Duncan's got a little great.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
And honestly remind me of so coached that essentially die
of a stroke. Now he had a stroke and it
was debilitating, and I was just looking at my phone.
This weekend I was with another former former player at
OSU and showing them about how there's like eleven years
ago we went and visited coach and he was you know,
he couldn't really speak, So, yeah, it brings up all
(35:16):
those memories.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
It's tough. I think I think everybody can relate to
it in terms of at some point in your life,
maybe a family member or a friend goes through something
that maybe you haven't you haven't seen them in a while,
and they're not the same person. I felt it's a
very relatable and personal experience, and it was great to
see him, even if he was walking slowly and maybe
(35:38):
not speaking as he normally would. Doug, your point about
the stroke is absolutely correct. But I think in seeing
that video, yeah, your heart does kind of drop a
little bit because it is tough to see. But I
think it's something that's very very relatable in our everyday lives.
Sure you Jah Jazz have Senate coach Will Hardy to
a contract extension keeps him in Salt Lake. Doug through
(35:58):
the twenty thirty thirty one season.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Well widely regarded as a brilliant coach. Brilliant coach and
obviously they're going to go through a bit of a
rebuild and we'll see what they get in the draft
or how they do it.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
He would have been Celtics head coach if he would
have been there right when Udoka was ousted. Sure, but
because he left for Utah, he was in Utah. So
Joe Miszula's gig from there on out?
Speaker 6 (36:21):
What up? Unto? I'm a duca. He just can't beat
the Warriors, right, He and Dylan Brooks have never beaten
the Warriors in the series.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Yeah, I couldn't do it in the two NBA finals.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
I mean it's he had two shots at it. You know,
he got a really young team. I thought they got
they got exposed a little bit for their youth.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
Two things he can do, beat the Warriors and stay
out of the business of a married man.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
A report from ESPN's as Michigan is expected to suspend
head football coach Aran More for two games in connection
to the conter Stallion's investigation is a little bit Oh yeah, yes, absolutely.
Are you one of those Michigan already serve their penalty? Yeah, guys, Yeah,
nice penalty, Doug. Sorry, they even get close to it.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
They're stealing signs. There's a reason you have signs, so
that you're deceptive over what you're saying.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
Change signs, dance dance, knighting like this one.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
So let's have a guy dress up like Ned Flanders
and stand on the sideline. Is that a good Simpson reference? Yeah?
A little much, a little much hardball, by the way,
could be with his team, he just had he couldn't
be there on game days. Sharon Moore was deleting.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Text was weird. That was the weird one too. But
now we're gonna like, now we're going to go and
do Sharon more. Yeah, I deleted text messages. I guess
I just think everybody is so past caring.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
Now it's time for rule all over Michigan.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
Even after did you watch the documentary on Connors sounding.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
It was it was a joke. They tried to make
him a martyr, a hero. Yeah, come my goodness, innovator. Oh,
by the way, you hear it, this, this suspension for
Sharon Moore is not games one and two. Don't worry.
He's not gonna miss the Oklahoma game against his alma mater.
He will miss Central Michigan and Nebraska. He's gonna miss
(38:13):
those two games. Weeks three and four, it's matt rules windows.
So let's get let's get the you know, get the
team in. You know, he'll coach there against New Mexico
in week one, coach there against Oklahoma in week two.
But then weeks three and four is when you gotta
kind of step aside. That's the punishment handed down.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
That one's weird too.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
And the rams of quarterback Matthew Stafford finalized his new deal.
Will get forty four million dollars this upcoming season. If
he's on the roster next year at the new league year,
he'll get another forty million guaranteed. And that's the press.
By get out there and press.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
That was the press who wins to night, Dean Byer.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
I like the Celtics and I like the Thunder Give
me the home teams.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
I like the Celtics and the Thunder two. I do
think the Knicks game is the closer.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Yeah, I think the Thunder went big tonight.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Start gott Lieb Show every great Day, Fox Sports Tradio,
