of course I was Sam and I We've been here
for the for the duration, for the duration, we got
a lot to get to it is a a week
(01:06):
in which, by the end of this weekend, every NFL
team will have played a preseason football game. Everyone. So
that's big, that's big. Right now, all we have to
deal with is we've had scrimmages and lots of chatter
and scrimmage posts being post galore going out there, and
(01:26):
of course you had the Hall of Fame game where
nobody who's really going to play for the Chargers played
h But nonetheless, we we we do have at least
one preseason game in the book. Getting closer and closer
to college football season is those those schools are in pads.
We're in August, and of course major League Baseball coming
down the stretch. And there's yet another how would I
(01:49):
do it? At? Well, would Jase do? What would the
what would the word words be? For yet another device?
Or was there one or two that were thrown on
the floor over the weekend? Sucks toy toys, Yes, adult toys.
I like adult toys, adult toys, adult toys. Was there
(02:13):
one or two thrown over the weekend? I'm hearing too.
I'm hearing too. Two is what I'm hearing. Anyway, we
got all kinds of stuff on the docket. Without further ado,
Let's share are things we loved, things we hated from
the weekend. We call it love and hate.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
What did you love? God, I love you and what
did you hate?
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Meet these? Clare Hay is all right to our resident love.
A boy with a really clean faded haircut is Dan Bayer.
Dan want you to start us off with what you
love for the weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Doug Wrestling has been a topic AOD conversation because of
the passing of Hull Cogan. And this past weekend was
Summer Slam, and I'm going to just tell you right out,
I did not order it. I did not watch it. However,
I have a great appreciation for showmanship and to see
what was flooding social media on TikTok on Saturday and
(03:08):
on X was the Seth Rollins CM Punk situation where
CM Punk wins the title and then Seth Rollins, who's
been playing up this knee injury amazingly comes out and
it is just theater at its finest. And I also
love the niche niche industry. However you want to say
(03:32):
it of people watching events and you watching them so
they will match up the video and this happens a
lot in wrestling where people are celebrating, in this instance,
Cmpunk's title and then they're guessing, and then they're like, oh,
that's the end of it, and then sure enough seth rollins,
music drops, and those streamers are going nuts. There's something
(03:56):
about that. I find it very interesting. I like the
watching people watching games sort of thing, and this wrestling moment,
like wrestling or not, you have to appreciate the showmanship
and the drama of it, and I thought it was
really really good. They had another one last night as well,
because it was a two night affair with Brock Lesner,
(04:17):
so it was I love that. I love the excitement
of it, the hearing, the music, the pops as they
call it, and you're talking to a guy who's not
a huge wrestling fan anymore, much bigger when I was
a kid and even in the college days. But I
just loved what I saw on social media from SummerSlam
this weekend.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
I was saying, did I see something that was from
wrestling this weekend? Did I see something where somebody big
walked away? Like, what's the name of the guy? If
a miss and Kyle Brandt had a baby, what's the
name of that.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Guy, So I don't somebody may have walked away. Again.
I'm not a huge wrestling fan. I just know that
Seth Rollins surprised CM Punk and cashed in his money
in the bank. And then the next night John Cena
was in the ring and brock Lesner came out after
Cody Rhodes and Sena had a match.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Cody Rhodes, that's him.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Was this Cody Roads the last thing?
Speaker 5 (05:17):
No?
Speaker 3 (05:18):
I think it was thought to be Sena's last thing.
That yeah, his son, Yes.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
No idea.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
He has a shock of blonde, bleach blonde hair. He
looks like an evil guy in like a comic book,
like a villain in a comic book.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Jason thought it was a cross of Kyle Branton who
the Miss the Miss.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
And Kyle Brown so too real world alum had a
baby and it was Cody Rhodes with a shock of
blonde hair.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Okay, there, Sam, w's you left on the weekend?
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Well?
Speaker 6 (05:52):
I love a good late afternoon, early evening meet up
at a beautiful place. I went to a beautiful place
this weekend on Saturday called the Stone House in west
Lake Village. Yes, four pm. Left it around eight. So
you're getting like it's nights and sunny, the sun's going down.
This is a beautiful spot. Went out there for a
friend's wife's birthday. Great wines, pizza, you got like a
(06:14):
little vineyard. It's like all one of those all encompassing
venues where it's a spa, it's a hotel.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
It's it's been the Poor Seasons.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
It's so but it was like.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
The way it was laid out and like the vibes
were the Four Seasons.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Dude, it's a nice Poor Seasons? Is nice?
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Is this a four Seasons?
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yep?
Speaker 6 (06:30):
Okay, Well this part of the h this complex you're in,
the stone house, was just there was grapes growing on vines.
It was just everyone was just a great guitar player
playing for the crowd. It was a really nice time. Also,
a couple more little loves Fever. They're on a five
game winning streak without Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
How about that? That's all I know. I've been filling in.
Are we doing two loves? Now?
Speaker 1 (06:51):
We are doing?
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah, they're little loves? Do that you have to have
one big one?
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Well?
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah? Yes?
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Can I just do one more little one?
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (07:01):
No?
Speaker 6 (07:02):
Iowa no, Iowa in the coach's poll, which is perfect.
That's right where we want.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Them, No, right where we want them.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Three loves for the price of one. That's Iowa samming it, folks, JA.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
And a third love wasn't even from the weekend. Third
level is right, it's from Friday to Monday. That's the
week I love documentaries. Somebody within these walls last week
said Netflix offers no good content, and I would say
the best documentaries, I would say are on Netflix. But
I watched the documentary on HBO this past weekend on
(07:38):
Billy Joel. I'm on record here saying I'm not a
big fan of Billy Joel, don't really like his music,
but a really good documentary. It's a good American story,
well done, lots of stuff I didn't know about. And
then speaking of documentaries, I've seen each of the Fire
Festival docs.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Wait wait, wait, wait are you doing? How many are
you doing?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
I'm doing what love?
Speaker 3 (08:02):
By the way, I do want to also interject like,
if you know the documentary, if you know everything that's
in it, then it's not as good of a documentary.
I feel like, to Jason's point, He's like, I learnt
you know, didn't know a lot of this stuff. I
think that's like ninety percent of it. Like if you're
finding out new stuff.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Sure, and I forget.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
I think I've seen all the Fire Festival documentaries even
though I know most of it. I think for streaming
services have done a Fire Festival documentary. It's an amazing
story of greed and people wanting to be famous and wealthy.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
And there's going to be a there's going to be
a second one. They're going to try to do the
Firefest again, is what I've heard. Oh really like with
the same guy who like bankrupted them and was promising
things he couldn't. That's what I heard, which is why rule?
Speaker 1 (08:50):
I mean, who would go back for a second time
when things are really bad and everybody? Oh wait, my bad?
All right, let's uh, let's I can I give? Can
I give you the thing I hated I left for
the weekend?
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Sorry, yes, but might but the Fire Festival reminded me
of something that happened this weekend in sports.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (09:07):
The Bristol Motor Speedway. Oh yeah, was called the Fire
Festival of Major League Baseball this weekend as rain ruined
things they weren't prepared for the rain. I guess you
need different infrastructure to handle rain at a raceway than
you do a Major League baseball game. The broadcast was
(09:29):
unaware that it had been postponed, so the broadcasters are
telling viewers coming up is the baseball game, as it's
already been postponed. There are pictures of concession running out
prior to the star spangled banner. There are pictures of
horrible seats where you can't really see the field. The
(09:49):
Fire Festival of Major League Baseball this weekend at Bristol
Motor Speedway.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I gotta ask, I mean, maybe this is a dumb question.
Why did they have it in? Why did they have
the the outfield stands be like the oval stands. Why
wouldn't you turn it the opposite way? Was there none
of space?
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Like have the home plate in the corner of the turn?
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (10:17):
That way? Yeah, that's that's actually a good question. Honest,
that's actually a really good question. I don't I don't
know why.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yeah, I just it was that that setup was.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Weird because there were yet all those.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Obstructed seats, but the obstructed seats couldn't see the field.
You still would have had obstructed seats, but it would
have been able to see home plate. Yes, so yeah
that one. The whole thing was a complete crap.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Show effort, at least for trying to do something cool.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, I totally agree. But at some point somebody should
have gone like, hey, yeah, Jimmy, Jimmy, did you just
start here? Like yeah, I'm sorry, guys, guys, Joe, what happens?
It rains.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
The best picture I saw was the guy with two
hot dogs because they ran out of buns. He just
had two hot dogs and his nachos had zero cheese,
so it was just chips chips. Hey, yeah, that's that's Bristol. Baby.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Let me give you what I left from the weekend. Uh,
Sephie Cunningham. Does anyone not have a secret crush on
Sephie Cunningham? All right, the most like you got anybody
who like celebrating their anniversary, Like, hey, did see your christ?
Like Sephie Cunningham, She tweets out again. I'm all I'm
doing is a radio host is reading a tweet. Stop
(11:44):
throwing dildos on the court. You're going to hurt one
of us. I mean, just the ability to go like, hey,
I can we can have a little fun with this
instead of pretending like it didn't happen, I will ask like,
what is the deal? It's funny, but at some point
you're like, yeah, not really happened once. Now it's like
somebody going with the jerk store line.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
Adds up, yeah, someone's gonna get hurt out here, but
adds up.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Save it for the Bills games.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Okay, that was funny when it was in the Bills
game in the intone.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Those weren't Neon Green. That's what I think makes this hilarious.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, well it was quite the week in the w
NBA right where you had one girl's wig was ripped off, right,
and then you had those things thrown on the court
three times. Uh, Caitlin Clark is still not playing, and
didn't Jonay Carrington didn't she get traded?
Speaker 5 (12:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (12:43):
The links now, I like, how again? And nobody wants
to make it look like they know how to handle
these things, so they everybody just becomes paralyzed as it
just sits there on the floor because nobody wants to
take the initiative. And I did see on the second
(13:05):
toss this weekend someone threw a towel over it, like
someone just like severely broke their leg and that you
don't want people to see, so you just throw a
towel over it. And then they picked up the the
object that was on the floor.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
There's a little bit of the duty in the pool
and catshack feel Yeah it.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Does it like running?
Speaker 6 (13:30):
Yes, and then you're like, drain the pool, clean it
and then Bill Murray picks it up.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Where's Bill Murray? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Yeah, Anyway, a whole new world they're living in. Now.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
All right, let's get to what we hated it from
the weekend, and we'll start with a resident hater, Jason
Steward Jasu, I.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Hate being over fifty and I hate suffering soft tissue injuries.
It has been quite some time since I did that. Uh,
but I tweaked my quad muscle this past weekend and
I was shelved for all day Sunday. Probably not going
to be able to make my Wednesday softball game this weekend.
(14:13):
And I have a vacation coming up where my super
hot girlfriend promised me we're going to be doing a
lot of walking, so I might have my vacation compromised,
my midweek softball game compromise. All because I'm fifty two
years old and suffered a soft tissue injury. I hate that.
Screw you soft tissue injury.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Oh my nut, my nut, my.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Neck in my back. Was it run a first base?
That what happened?
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Yeah? I was jogging out a ball at a first base.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
Yep, I saw you hit a dinger though Rich Davis
reposted you hitting a dinger, a real dinger, so I
lest he had that too.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
I'm going to tell you I despise adult softball. Just
do it. It's not because I had. I mean, look,
you get flashbacks a little league when you're playing and
you're like fielding, like that's fun. But one there's so
much standing around that that's like going to happen. I'm
a competitive person, I also, but I don't care that much, right,
(15:11):
and then you'll get you'll get a try hard that
really cares. Then any other guys are just hammered. Maybe
it's that anytime I played, I used to play with
ESPN Radio. We used to have a softball team, but
I don't know. It was during the day, so it
was like sober softball, and you just had guys that
were former baseball players so into it, you know, And
(15:32):
so I want to be competitive, but I'm no, I'm
not good. On the other hand, I really don't want
to get yelled at by somebody who I don't think
is yeah. I think like sorry, dude, like this is
not my world series. I don't know, just not a
big adult softball league guy. And the fact that you
pulled your hammi is a perfect example of why not.
Like what is the what's the best thing that could
happen I can have, I can hit a home run
and we can win that I don't care about. The
(15:53):
worst thing I am is I get hurt. And that's
what happened to just too. Dann Barrowood Jake from The Weekend.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Do gentlemen ber the Thomas Bailey is getting the raw
end of the deal, and I'm sure that there's arguments
saying that he is in. But Bailey is eighty eight
years old, and thanks to the Knoxville News for giving
me a heads up on this one. Bailey is a
lifelong Tennessee basketball fan, and he is now being priced
out of his seats with the Valls Play Thompson Bowling
(16:22):
Arena because of an increase in ticket prices. He's been
a season ticket older since nineteen sixty seven. In fairness
to Tennessee. They have allowed him to have a discount
on his seats over a decent amount of time because
of his age and also because of his loyalty to
(16:42):
the program. But now there are going to be new
arena courtside club seats and his ticket price went up
three thousand dollars from what he would previously have paid.
They allowed him, they said, you can have a seat
for that price in the upper deck. He is now
being moved because of this high end club that they
(17:05):
are trying to build to help to help the finances
of the new world of college basketball. This isn't the
only one. Arkansas fans, I know, we're really mad at
the end of last season that they were heading into
this season that they were getting displaced because of ticket deals.
I think we're hearing more and more of this, which
is too bad because I think college basketball fans are
(17:26):
truly some of the best that there are in the game.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
And I hated that the Astros have have short memories? Right,
didn't the Astros stop the game because they thought the
Red Sox were stealing signs? That did happen? Yes, pot
calling the kettle. And the fact that everybody didn't just
stop collectively and laugh and point the finger at them.
I hated that. I hate that. I liked it, some
(17:50):
of us remembered. I didn't like the fact that that
game should have been stopped and everybody should just laugh
to the astros and say, hey, listen, I get it,
I get it. Yeah, Cora's over there, got it. You
guys can't do it. Sorry, no trash cans here, and
that is loving.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Hey.

It's the Doug Outlib Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
If you if you read the USA Today online or
(18:43):
if you happen to pick it up, you can pick
up Jared Bell's piece today called Jerry Jones Unplugged, He
talks Micah Parsons contract. If you haven't picked it up,
it's okay, don't worry. We did the lifting for you.
We got you. Jared Bell he joins us, longtime NFL
writer for USA Today. He joins us in the Doug
Outlet Show on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, Jared, what was
(19:06):
what was Jerry like when you talked Uh Parsons with him?
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Yeah, you know, it's Jerry, and you know, Jerry is
definitely these sources, but you know, sometimes he can go
a lot of different ways. So basically it was just
a matter of addressing the topic of camp this year,
and we talked about a lot of other things, but
(19:33):
it's all pretty consistent. When you get Jerry and you
and he gets on a roll, you can go a
lot of ways. You know. One of the one of
the things Doug about talking to Jerry, which I actually enjoy,
is that he can kind of ramble and he can
start answering a question and then he'll flip back to
(19:57):
Emmitt Smith in Night ninety three, and then he'll come
back and circle back and answer the questions. But you know,
sometimes it's a trip down memory lane. And I've known
him for but ever since he bought the Cowboys have
had interviews with him and talk to him and so
on and so forth. So it's it's always a good
time in talking to Jerry.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Okay, So where are we on the Parsons thing.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
Hey, your guess is as good as line. It's really
been so dramatic, you know, all off season. I don't
think anything's imminent, but these things can kind of turn
around on a dime as well. And you know, one
of the things that Jerry said to me in the interview,
we were talking about the possibility of persons playing out
(20:48):
his contract and you know, you know he's got the
you know, they took the fifty year option on him,
so he'll go from you know, an average of like
four or five million dollars on his rookie contract to
like twenty four this year. But obviously he wants more,
especially when you see t J. Watt and Miles Garrett
get the big deals that they got. So there's that.
(21:08):
But when you look at kind of how the whole
thing went with Dak Prescott over a number of years,
I mean, it wasn't just cut and dry. It was franchise,
tag him and then tag him again and then redo
the deal, so on and so forth. So if you
apply that that same possibility, I'll say with Michael Parsons,
(21:31):
this thing could actually go on for some time. That's
not to say that I was told that that was
the way it's going to go down, because you know,
Parsons put out his without his statement the other day
that he wants to go. So we'll see if that
moves the needle.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
It's Doug Gotlieb Show here on Fox Sports. Tridia Jared Belt,
longtime NFL writer for you Us, today joined us on
Fox Sports Radio. You're what about the Cowboys in general?
Like this is it's like a yearly thing. You know
other teams have you know, Terry McLaurin obviously with with
the Commanders, and last year's Saquon Barkley with the Giants,
(22:14):
and you kind of go in and there's every couple
of years, but it's every year with the Cowboys. Why
is that so?
Speaker 5 (22:22):
Yeah? I think it really does come down to the
fact that they kind of circulate in the circus. I
just made that up because it's kind of like, you know,
the drama with the Cowboys is always bigger and boulders
than it is with most teams. But I mean you
(22:42):
make a great point if there are some teams, take
the Philadelphia Eagles for example, and the Los Angeles Rams
being another one. I mean, they seem to always be
ahead of the curve when it comes to taking care
and securing their you know, franchise pillar players for the
long term. And that's kind of the conventional thinking of
(23:05):
how you deal with a salary cap and so on
and so forth, because hey, if you can sign a guy,
one of your star players to a long term deal
before the next guy on the market gets his deal,
so on and so forth, you actually are saving money
as opposed to waiting. And so why is it with
(23:25):
the Cowboys, That's a that's a great question. I think
the fact that they don't mind the drama, and that
starts at the top with Jerry is one of the
reasons why there's always something going on. But you know,
the other thing is they you know, there's still this
immensely popular franchise and they hadn't been to the Super
(23:48):
Bowl in or an NFC championship game in like twenty
nine years, So yeah, they tuned for the next piece
of drama. But this one is going to probably be
there for a minute.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
What do you think happens with Terry mclauren deal.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
You know, it's interesting because the Commanders have done so
many things right since the you know, the ownership change
and the new regime came in, and this is really
kind of like their first bit of adversity when it
comes to managing the football part of it. And you know,
when you look at Terry mclauren before they came in
(24:29):
with the new GM and the new coach, I mean,
he was that guy in Washington who really kind of
you know, held it together and he fighted great. Obviously,
I can't see them not wanting to lock him up
to a long term deal. So what happens. I think
ultimately they signed him to a long term deal and
(24:51):
they put him on the other side of Deebo Samuel
or Deebo Samuel on the other side of McLaren because
McLaren has been just you know, top shelf, consistent player
and a solid citizen, a great fan favorite, all of that,
even as they you know, before they got Jason Daniels
(25:12):
and like I said, the new regime, so they need
to sign him.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Yeah, they they badly, badly, badly do as they seem
to turn things around with their offense last year, and
we'll see what your two looks like with Jane Daniels
as the sky appears to be the limit. There. Last thing,
any sense, any sense from from your perspective of can
(25:36):
the league catch up to Kansas City? Like it's every
year We're just going like, Okay, well, now's the year.
Now's the year. I would never pick against him, But
after getting dismantled in the Super Bowl, some will is
this year the AFC catches up with the Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Yeah, that is a great question. I just left the
Chiefs camp, and you know, Patrick Mahomes looks and sounds
and walks and talks. He's the same guy and even better.
So there's that. I think the thing that the Egos
showed in the Super Bowl was that you can the
way to beat them is to beat them up in
(26:12):
the trenches and take advantage of that and you could
kind of knock off everything else Mahomes does. So there's
been a lot of effort and attention on the offensive line.
I think that it will be better this year. But
the other thing that happened with Kansas City last year,
you know, Mahomes didn't row for four thousand yards for
(26:35):
like the first time since he's been a starter, And
I think part of that was a the offensive line,
b the receiving cort they had put a lot of
investment in last year, suffered a bunch of injuries and
then including you know, Rossie Rice and so and Hollywood
(26:56):
Brown who they brought in, and so on and so forth.
So I think that the Chiefs will be better now
to your question, And sorry to sound like Jerry Jones
and rambling here all around the foreign but you know,
there's a lot of competition in the AFC, and Buffalo
is gonna knock at the door again, right, and then
(27:17):
there'll be some other teams that will emerge, probably Denver
as one. We'll see what Pittsburgh can do. So can
anybody catch the Chiefs? And I didn't even mention Baltimore,
you know, so uh yeah, show me first. But I
think that the window is tight tighter on Kansas City.
(27:41):
But we'll have to see if they if they're able
to really fix that offensive line and support Homes that way,
I mean my Homes that way.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Jared, great stuff man, Thanks for joining us. Look forward
to talking to the season gets ready, gets underway, and

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Got, Doug. Before we get to the top stories of
the day, I do want to pass along a story.
So on Friday, I was filling in for Cavino and
rich here on Fox Sports Radio and was prepping in
the studio and heard you guys talking, and I wanted
to be known. I wanted to be revealed that prior
(29:26):
to you guys conversation, I had already started this. We
talked about my lack of movie experience. Sure, I decided
to watch Goodfellas for the first time late last week.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
We read the papers, get the papers, and so there
was no tell nobody about nothing would make it back.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Take it back, you guys made on the show, which
I then understood because I ended up watching Goodfellas.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
Can enjoy it?
Speaker 3 (29:55):
I did. I thought it was a really I thought
it was a good movie. I can understand why people
like it. Why, uh you know, Rayle Otto is great. Yeah,
I can. I can understand it. I did. I did
enjoy it. What was a reference?
Speaker 1 (30:10):
But before we always referenced.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
I don't know. You guys were going back and forth,
and I don't know if it was uh you know,
that was all the money we had, Karen, I don't
know if it was that line or what you guys mentioned,
but it was.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
We had talked about this whole uh when you talked
about this strange thing with Happy Gilmour two all last week,
and I want to say, it was one of Kevino
and Richards like, this isn't good Fellas here? Why are
we critiquing this as a as kind of a comeback
at Sam being overly critical of a ridiculously silly movie.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
But but that was it was. Actually it was a
back and forth because Isaac was was in on Friday
and and Isaac said something to the point of at
least I believe that it was Friday that that happened.
So I just thought it was I thought it was interesting.
I thought proud of you. Yeah, I am trying to, uh,
I should say interesting. It was quite the coincidence because
(31:03):
I ended up. I ended up here's the true story,
ended up watching it guys on Peacock and I had
about twenty minutes left and I stopped and I'm like, well,
just I'll watch the ending tomorrow because it was like
about one in the morning. They took it off on
August first, so it was it disappeared from my now
like from my now playing. So then I had to
(31:26):
rent it on Amazon for four months. Oh geez, are
twenty minutes? Yes, yeah, talk about a bummer bad timing there, Geez, Doug,
have you seen the new Billy Joel documentary on HBO?
Speaker 1 (31:38):
I heard it's very good.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Jason will ruin it for you. He'll tell you all
the good parts if you haven't seen it. So that
happened in one of our commercial.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
And Billy Jo'll say he didn't have any DUIs and
it's like.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
What, well, let's not give it away because we were
talking about it. Jason was moved by the documentary and
then Sam, you haven't seen it either?
Speaker 6 (31:57):
What platforms on HBO Max? I don't have that, so
I'll never see it.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
I give away a couple of very interesting plot points
that I just assumed everyone knew and buyer hated it.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
I can't why you would do it. Yeah, and its
very very new, right, Yes, it's like Goodfellow's. Hey, it's
been out for thirty years. We're good.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
But just of like hey, telling someone, hey, you should
watch this, and then like you recommend it and then
you give away like a big part of it. So
now I won't I will come back knowing what I know,
and it will not be as good to me because
I just found out this way, as opposed to being like, what,
oh wow, I did not.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Know that weird, wacky wild stuff.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
I also didn't know that preseason Super Bowl odds apparently
don't change very much, except when you talk about this offseason.
Our buddy Jimmy Shapiro passes along some odds from bet
Online as the Buffalo Bills are the new favorites to
win Super Bowl sixty. They become the fourth different team
this offseason to be listed as the favorite to win
(33:05):
the Super Bowl in February in Santa Clara. Right now,
five to one, the Buffalo Bill's your favorite, the shortest
odds of any of the thirty two teams.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Okay, but here's the question, right, maybe the most pertinent
question is, last couple of years, has the favorite been successful?
Speaker 3 (33:27):
Yeah? I don't know the history on who was considered
the favorite. I don't know if it was Kansas City
because they wonted the previous year. I don't know the
history on it. But the odds opened up the week
of Super Bowl fifty nine, so it was that week
before the Eagles and Chiefs played, the Chiefs were the favorites.
(33:48):
Once the Eagles won the Super Bowl, they became the favorites,
but two weeks ago Baltimore ended up taking over as
the favorites. Now Here we are in August about to
watch Hard Knocks on HBO featuring the Buffer Low Bills.
They are the new Super Bowl favorites at five to one.
Ravens at plus five seventy five, Eagles plus seven twenty five,
and the Chiefs at plus eight fifty, followed by the
(34:09):
Lions and the Packers and Rams along with the forty
nine are sitting there at eighteen to one. So some
Super Bowl odds to pass along, all right, Doug, Let's
get to other news. In the NFL, Bill's running back
James Cook remains a hold in. He wants a new contract.
But Bill's GM Brandon Being told WGR five fifty today
that they were surprised by their running back having a
(34:31):
hold in prior to the start of practice yesterday. Speaking
of those Bills.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Yeah, I mean, it does feel like something that your
agent should communicate, doesn't it. Yes, By the way, tomorrow
we're going to do a little hold in here, you know,
I think that again, this is everything's different football to basketball.
But generally, and I've heard this when I work for
different corporations and media, nobody likes surprises. So when Brandon
(35:00):
Bean doesn't know, that's like, that feels like a surprise.
That's not great.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Jacksonville Jaguar's just released their depth chart. Travis Hunter listed
as a starting wide receiver but right now, second team cornerback.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
That's about right, though right like he's further along as
a wide receiver feels a little bit and easier. The
issue is that if whatever he does better or more
of year one, he's going to do probably most of
his career.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
So there is a need for him at wide receiver.
And Liam Cohen even talked about it with an outlet today.
I forgot who it was about his Rookie of the
Year odds. However, the conversation again when he was being
drafted was he's a cornerback that could play wide receiver,
and now he's a second team corner and a starting
(35:52):
wide receiver, which is interesting.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Do we think they're disappointed with what they got?
Speaker 3 (35:57):
No, absolutely not. College football Coach's poll is out Texas one,
Ohio State two. They'll play an opening weekend Saturday, August thirtieth.
Penn State is three, Georgia four, Notre Dame runs out
the top five. After that, it's Clemson, Oregon, Alabama, LSU,
and Miami running out the top ten.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
I'm excited about college football, and the fact that we
get number one, number two straight out, straight out of
the gate is pretty awesome. It's really awesome. Matter of fact, Dan,
are you gonna go to that game?
Speaker 3 (36:30):
No, No, I will not be nowhere. I'll actually probably
still be in Wisconsin at that time, to be honest
with you. So or I got it because I got
to figure out my flight back. It's all still in
the works.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Just stay here, we'll do the show here. You'll be fine.
Oh yeah, you got a family. Fine. Whatever.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
The twenty twenty six men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments,
when we remain at sixty eight teams, still a possibility
to expand in twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Yeah, I don't. Look. I know there's a lot of
people celebrating, Hey, we saved the tournament, like it's gonna
change at some point. But it's like, obviously you want
to protect that bracket because the bracket has value, because
everybody can fill out a bracket. The other side to it,
and this may be the most important thing to mention
is we've already expanded past sixty four. It's like we're
protecting something that doesn't need to be protected anymore.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
And the San Antonio Spurs and Guardiera and Fox have
agreed on a four year max extension. We're two hundred
and twenty nine million dollars.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
You wonder who's gonna be at that press conference?
Speaker 3 (37:31):
What does the Fox say after he got paid so much?
That's the press, press.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
That the press. Hey, Chase, do listen as much as
you can wallow in your sorrows. Dodger's still in first place, right,
Yankees are not? So there's that. You got that? You
do have that?
Speaker 3 (37:55):
All right?
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Maybe we'll talk baseball tomorrow. Is that possible? Yeah? Sure?
Why not check out the podcast? It is all available.
