Speaker 2 (00:21):
Welcome in Hope.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
You're having a great day, maybe the greatest day you've
ever had in your entire life. What if that happened today?
Today was the greatest day in your life? Could be Ryan,
You're just like your Debbie Downer.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Don't be a no, just being honest.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Okay, Okay, my boy Jaystu in the house.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
So I'm just gonna put this out there at real
quick before we get to what we want to get
to in this part of the show. I've just been
told that Buyer and Jay Stu are headed to Buffalo
for Dolphins bills.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Is that correct?
Speaker 3 (01:01):
That's correct?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Now, I don't know, I'm without looking, I don't know
if we're on in Buffalo. I'm sure we're on somewhere
close to Buffalo. So here's the deal. I've sent out
some texts. I have a very high level of confidence
that between Tom Telesco, who we just had on, who's
from Buffalo originally like hometown, and between my other connections
in the NFL and Thursday Night Football, I'll see some
(01:24):
of those people. A couple of TNF people owe me
a favor that I'll be able to get you tickets.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
What I need.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
That's not what I need. I need Bill's Mafia to
take care of these two guys. Because Dan wants to
go to what's name in the stadium?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
High Mark Stadium?
Speaker 1 (01:42):
What was it originally called back when we were king
Richfield Richfield. Dan wants to go and see the stadium
before they bulldoze the stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Right that. Yes, that's the only Yes. What's the other
part to it? No, that that is the only reason.
Buffalo is one of the few cities that well, the
other reason would be Buffalo is one of the few
cities in the United States like major cities I've never
been to. Okay, so I would like to see what
Buffalo is like dated that game is what it's a
week from Thursday? Okay, yes, Okay, So the.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Seventeenth the seventeenth, noted seventeenth is that it.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Is it the eighteenth? Jay eighteenth eight eighth okay eighteenth.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Ironically, I'll be here, I'm here, you're there. It's a
big junior college of Edward and some recruiting in California
that that Friday. Anyway, So here's what I need. Okay,
Dan Byer, please give your Twitter handle at Dan Bayer
on Fox.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Jayce dou please give.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Your Twitter handle at Jason Stewart as it's spelled ew yep.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
At Jason Stewart. Okay, and you can include me at
Gottlieb Show if you'd like. If you don't like, this
does not involve me. This involves There's zero doubt in
my mind that some member of Bill's Mafia is listening
to the show. And whether they member remember or Jay
Suo from back in the old Rome days, okay, or
they're just an avid listener, or you listen to Dan
on weekends, or you download is I want your Flex podcast?
(03:08):
Nice little plug there, or you're just listening to the
DG show, or you're just a dude.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
You can't have Dan Byer come and say this is
the final stop on my I've seen every city tour
and going to uh, what is it save Mark Kimark Stadium, Okay,
and see the Buffalo Bills and not hang out with
Bill's Mafia fair.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Absolutely right.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's that's like going to Manhattan and not going in
to see a show. That's like coming to la and
not seeing a homeless person. It's not part of the trip.
You haven't made the full trip. It's like my brother
says this. My brother used to have a joke. I
don't know if this joke. He's like, you haven't been
to It's not really a trip to Mexico unless you've
(03:52):
seen something on fire, three leg a dog, and somebody
selling your cheek lay at the border, right, And if
you've been to Mexico, you're like, yeah, it's all three
of those things. Good, you had a Mexico trip. Otherwise
you just went to a resort. A real Mexico trip
is something on fire, three legg a dog, somebody's selling
your cheek let. I'll alternate oranges as well, where you
(04:13):
get sold oranges.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yes, there is something about this stadium. And I even
think when you look back at the eighties and nineties
when we grew up watching football. It was a different look.
It doesn't look like an NFL stadium, and that's why
I love it. And now they've got their new stadium
that will probably look like a lot of others. It'll
(04:35):
have all the bells and whistles, the whole deal. But
there's just been something unique about this. The camera angle
is always super low on TV, which I think that
makes it even more intriguing when you're watching it. But
I just wanted to see a game. This is probably
for at least a decade. I've wanted to go, and
(04:56):
now time is running out and it's now forcing my hand.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Snug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, so
can we hook these guys up? Please hook these guys up.
They need to be shown the greatest Thursday night experience
in Buffalo history. This is on you, Bills, Mafia. Don't
say you're don't say this is a great place, and
not show our guys a good time. Jason Stewart, Dan Bayer,
(05:21):
find them on social media and connect with them, and
you guys keep me updated as to the connections.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Let's get to love and hate.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
What did you love? God? I love you? And what
did you hate?
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Meet these player haters.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
What'd you love from the weekend? What'd you hate from
the weekend? Ryan, You're gonna have to find something nice
to say. That's part of love. Let's start with that
resident at a boy Dan Byer, what's you love in
the weekend?
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Well, i'll tell you what. It was quite the experience
that I had on Saturday night. My wife and I
talking about looking forward to things. Ever since we found
out that Ohasis was reuniting. I had been looking forward
to going to see their show, and we are lucky
enough living in southern California. Then in one of their
(06:09):
five US stops, show in Chicago, two in New York,
and to in LA that I was able to attend
one of them. So Saturday night, my wife and I
saw Oasis Live twenty five the reunion tour, and it
was everything everything that I expected and so much more.
It was just it was great. It was hit after hit,
(06:34):
absolutely love. The atmosphere Rose Bowl was packed. It was
just it was amazing, and it was such an energy.
One of those concerts where you're still thinking about it
and talking about it a day later, two days later,
you're still listening to the music. So that's what I
love from this weekend was checking out Oasis and seeing
Oasis on Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
So those guys packed the Rose Bowl. Yes, after being
completely gone for thirty years? Is that how long?
Speaker 3 (07:01):
It's not that long, Probably about fifteen or so.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Oh okayes Man, and you were very familiar with their
catalog going in, Ye okay, I'm not. I think I
know the very high level couple hits.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
It's one of the weirdest things ever. I mean, genius marketing.
But I would agree, Like I flew out here from Nashville,
right went to wedding on the weekend on Friday, and
there was people coming in for the concert from Nashville
like Oasis. I was like, is I missed the I
missed the Oasis was that big? But they have whatever,
(07:37):
whether it's not touring, whether they become more popular in
the time since they actually whatever it.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Is, it's kind of crazy crazy.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
It's just it's a great song after great song, and
I think that they're dynamic and them as brothers is
something that is so captivating.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Didn't know their brothers.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
You didn't know Liam and Nole were brothers. Nope, you
knew that, right, Jason.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
I knew that I knew they hated each other for
many y.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Yeah, because that's so much about the story of and
why they weren't and why they weren't together. It was
that they were brothers. Liam's the younger brother, and yeah,
it was just it was magnificent. Paul McCartney, oddly enough
attended the attended the show on Saturday night. It was
just great. It was eighty thousand people just having the
(08:25):
time of their lives and people were flying in because
they've said, and this may be wrong, but I would
say this last name. Yeah, this is not that they're
getting together, and maybe they will be because they are
on good terms right now. Even Liam's always trying to
hug nol. But there were only five shows in the States.
It wasn't like they're going to go to San Diego
(08:46):
this week and then the next weekend they're up in Seattle,
then they'll hit Denver, then they'll go down to Texas
and play Dallas and Houston. No, it was Chicago, two
nights in New York, two nights in LA then they'll
go to Mexico City, they'll go do Asia and Australia,
and they've got some couple of shows in South America,
like three shows in South America in November and then
(09:07):
that's the.
Speaker 6 (09:07):
Tour And is it tonight as well? No, it was
last night, that Saturday Sunday. Yeah, it just came up
on my memories. So six years ago this September, I
went to see the Stones for the first time at
the Rose Bowl. I have a logistics question for you.
Where did you park? And how much of a pain
in the ass was it to get out of the park.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
We were We were so early, we were there at
five thirty. Oasis didn't get on until eight forty five.
It was easy as pie. We were pretty close. We
were close to the We parked on the golf course.
We were actually close to the clubhouse, so we didn't
have far to walk. And yeah, just I mean a
little bit, but when you have eighty thousand people, a
little bit of a delay to get out. But it
wasn't it wasn't a headache at all. Good for you. Yeah,
(09:49):
it worked out well, would.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Okay? So Aaron Rodgers I mentioned last week it's a
story that I'm following the closest this season. I'm interested
to see how he does he beat the Jets at
the Jets. I wasn't very interested in this revenge angle.
I don't think there's enough. There wasn't enough time spent
there for there to be a major revenge. I do
know that there was that reported incident or exchange between
(10:17):
him and the jets new head coach where Aaron Rodgers
flew across the country only to be told we don't
need you. He addressed it after the game last night.
Speaker 7 (10:26):
He spoke about the meeting with Alan Glenn on McAfee
a few months ago. Beating him is your significance in
that sense.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
He basically told you to your face that he.
Speaker 8 (10:36):
Didn't think you were right for that team.
Speaker 7 (10:39):
Yes, that's what he did, So there are significance in
beating him for you. I was happy to beat everybody
associated with the Jets. It was nice to win, especially,
you know, hearing some of the cat calls out there
and the boobirds. You know, I don't I'm not sensitive
about that. I expected that, you know, I kind of
(10:59):
like that. But there were probably people in the organization
I didn't think I could play anymore, So it was
nice to remind those people that I still can.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Four touchdowns, no interceptions. The Steelers won on a Boswell
I want to say, what sixty year old sixty yard
field goal? It was a very entertaining game to watch
for a couple of reasons, but one of them was
the old man won, and I'm rooting for him, so
it was great to see. I love saying that.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
What were the other reasons?
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Because Justin Fields looked great and I wish I had
Justin Fields on my fantasy team. He's fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, No, I mean that was interesting.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Also, huge fumble and special teams in the Jets. Gigantic
fumble and special teams of the Jets. Ryan, what you got?
Speaker 8 (11:46):
Well, anything to do with the Boston area. I despised
Doug So me being a Raiders fan who's still upset
over the tuck rule, it made me grin from ear
to ear that my Raiders beat the Patriots. I don't
like Josh McDaniels. I don't know why he keeps getting
job opportunities. Uh, he sucks. And I just love the
(12:08):
fact that Pete Carroll, seventy plus years old, they go
into New England and they beat the Patriots. That's what
I love, Raid.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
Rad Raid is.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
It's Yeah, it was good Win. I'll tell you what
I loved. Was the green bad Packers look like a
champion team? They just did? And was the offense lights out?
Speaker 5 (12:45):
Like?
Speaker 2 (12:45):
No, like Detroit's still good.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Detroit seems to lack whatever that special something they had had,
And we'll like, like we're being fair.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Week one is hard, new coordinator.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Some some different pieces from last year, but Micah Parsons
did not play a ton of snaps and they still
dominated the Lions. Now, if you can start out two
to zero at home Lions and Commanders on Thursday night,
now you're cooking.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Now you're cooking.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
And for the most part, I think they had one
possible injury going to yesterday. But the Packers it just
felt and looked different. Maybe it was that the Lions
weren't ready, maybe that the Lions they hadn't played enough
in the new system. But I think a lot of
it was there's just an energy to this Packers team,
which feels like super Bowl energy. I could be wrong,
(13:36):
because I've been following the Chargers for so long. I
haven't seen super Bowl energy felt that way. All right,
let's get to what we hated from the weekend. A
resident hater although that we have two with you and Ryan,
but let's start with you, Jay Stu.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
So since Sam isn't here today, I feel kind of
compelled to Sam up my hate because three things I
really hated this weekend. I couldn't stand them. But I
won't do it. I won't stand it up, but I
will mention that. I won't mention that Pat Mahomes acting
like he's going out of bounds and then laying a
blow on our cornerback with the Chargers. I thought that
(14:12):
was Bush league and the Kara Swisher Elizabeth Warren look
alike who stole the ball from the ten year old
kid on Saturday night that I hated too, for many
reasons we'll get into in the podcast. But something that
happened Saturday night, that's a new woe. And I know
Dan Byer, I already nobody's going to say to this, Yeah,
(14:33):
it's really easy to complain. You're in first place, you're
the defending world champions, you'll probably win the division for
the next ten years. But this Dodgers team has been
particularly annoying, has been particularly frustrating, and it reached a
new woe on Saturday night. Our pitcher was throwing a
no hitter two outs in the ninth INNY. Two outs,
(14:57):
one out a way from a no hitter. Yamamoto, your
guy Jackson Holiday ruined that hits a solo home run
to make it three to one. So we're like, oh, okay, cool,
three to one. We still got the game, right. No, No,
let's bring in Blake Trine and double hit a guy
walk walk. So it's three to two, bases loaded, and
(15:19):
they bring in our guy Tanner Scott and the only
thing that guy's good at is giving away leads, single
up the middle. Dodgers lose. This is not becoming of
a championship team. Something's broken. They seemingly fixed everything in
one weekend with the Padres and have been a broken
team around that weekend. I can't put my finger on it.
(15:42):
I hate that.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I just for perspective.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
I was talking to Matt during the first inning after
Jackson flied out deep in the first inning, and because
Matt went with work with Jackson when they're in San Diego,
and since you've seen his numbers, and he was talking
about how like it's just very normal for a hitter,
this is what happens in your first real full season
the bigs whatever, And then to see that reward with
that home run was huge. They hit the home run
(16:06):
and I stopped paying attention again. And then they come back.
When that was I knew you were gonna Ryan give
me yours that you hated.
Speaker 8 (16:12):
Uh, Philly, Karen, just because what blew my mind is, uh,
you're in Philly and no one checked her. I mean,
it's not like you're in some classy place.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
It was.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
It was in Florida. Yeah, they were just a lot
of Phillys.
Speaker 8 (16:30):
Even worse, you're in Florida, a lot of crazy people
out there, and no one checked her.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Really, what do you mean checked her?
Speaker 8 (16:37):
She took the ball from a kid?
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Oh, I mean she was so entitled.
Speaker 8 (16:41):
Well exactly, someone needed to go over there and check her.
And and no one said anything that it booter.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
I actually think the dad was the one who's he's
just got it, like no, no, if here's the rule, okay,
the rule is the balls hit at you if you
don't catch the ball. It's fair game, right and might
and I will also point out I am not the
(17:08):
guy if you sit in a place that might get
getch you a ball and you want to bring a
glove to a game. It's literally the only time in sports,
I would allow it. Allow those things come off at
rockets like you gotta if you want to. But if
you drop the ball like sorry, and then yes, in
the hierarchy of who gets the ball first, kids before
women before men, right, And the only thing that can
(17:29):
usurp all of those is if you served in the military. Wait,
I forgot hold on kids, elderly women, men right, And
again military probably ahead of both, but the military guys
will almost all give it to the kids elderly women.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Fair.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
It seems like the in sports, a fly ball at
a major lee I'm sorry, a foul ball or a
home run at a major league baseball field is like
one of the last things. It's like it's survival of
the fittest. It's a meritocracy. If you get the ball,
you earn the ball. And then you add the fact
that it's the guy's tenth or the kid's tenth birthday
that he was giving the ball to. Everything worked out
(18:13):
fine because Harrison Bader, the guy who hit the omron,
met the kid afterwards and gave him a ball on
a bat and signed it and everything. And our girl
Karen was I guess doxed. And it was reported that
she lost her job. I don't think any of that's true,
but anyways, yeah, that was that was amazing. Glad you
brought it up.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
I get something I hated. Sorry, sorry, Dan, I'll get
you next. It wasn't that Oklahoma State got beat. It
wasn't even that they got beat sixty nine to three.
That's part of it. Two parts to it. First, I
hate the you get embarrassed like that, the lack of reality.
But you've got a fire Gundy Day's passed. But like,
(18:54):
this is a whole new world for them. They've never
spent money and now they're spending money. And I think
it's pretty obvious they didn't spend money terribly wisely and
they had a backup quarterback and this is what happens, right,
But this is the downside to the portal era. They
had like fifteen practices before they played a game. Now
they played two games, so you're talking like twenty practices in.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
There was no fight at all.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
They laid down, they got their absolute asses handed to
them and did not fight for one another.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
And what's that?
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Because because they didn't go there because they give a
crap about Oklahoma State. They went there because they gave
a crap about a paycheck. Okay, if you haven't figured
out what's ruining college sports, and look, we sucked last year.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
I can't. I can't put a pretty picture on four
and twenty eight. I just can't.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
I know our kids fought with everything they had, and
they stuck together, and they played for one another, and
they played for the school. It's not perfect, hey, but
I can tell you that they fought. And the problem
with what's changed in college athletics is in order to
get it going, you gotta go out and pay money
to players, and if you pay money to the wrong guys,
you get a bunch of turns, and that it doesn't
(20:08):
show its head in a game when you're winning. It's
when you're losing, Like why fight? Like I'm still getting paid,
I don't care. Like these aren't my guys. I've been
here a couple of weeks. Go play somewhere else next year.
That mentality sucks. And like, look, do I think Oregon
ran it up?
Speaker 4 (20:27):
No?
Speaker 1 (20:27):
But Oregon taking special Glee, you're better. I just I
don't know Landings, there's a little dB in there that
he's a really good coach. They're an awesome team, Atson's
an amazing place, but like, dude, when you're two x
the spending, that's what happens. Dan Byer, what do you got?
I don't want to follow that. I think that's a
perfect way to end love and hate.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (21:00):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
So I love.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
We all have the ability to cover all sports, right.
We also all have our team. So if you asked
about I don't know, pick random game from yesterday, Brown's Bengals, right,
we watched have an opinion. If you asked me about
the Chargers, I'm gonna give you a much stronger opinion
because when it was a standalone game two, it's it's
(21:32):
Jay stewing my team, right, same thing a little bit
less with the Packers, because if I'm honest, I haven't
paid as much attention on the local level on the
to the Packers historically as I have the Chargers, especially
living in Los Angeles for the first seven years before
moving to Green Bay. I preface that because the Seahawks
lost a close one to the Niners, right, and there
(21:55):
was a Sam Donald run into his teammate, which felt
like kind of class Sam Donald. But I also looked
at the production of Donald and I don't know what
happened there, I asked Dan Byer, because that's his team,
that's what he pays attention to the most.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
What happened to him.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Just for clarification purposes, I'll try to give you my
best thoughts of what happened, But that's when Carrie Rhodes
and I are on the air. So as much as
I'd love to just sit there and watch the Seahawks,
we're focusing on the three other games that are going
on at that time, which included was Packers, Lions, Rams
and Texans and the Broncos Titans game actually gave us
a lot to talk about because the decisions in that game,
(22:37):
But it was down the stretch that we were focused
on what was happening with the Seahawks in a game
that was dominated by the forty nine Ers. Statistically, you
look up and down the stat chart, time of possession,
yards gained, Everything was in favor of San Francisco except
a couple of turnovers. The issue that I have heard
(22:57):
about Sam Donald from his previous stops in the NFL
is that Sam Donald does sometimes just get in love
with his first option and we'll throw the football in
the in that spot. And I felt that that was
the problem on the play where he fumbled when they
got down to the nine yard line. Concerning as a
Seahawks fan, that that theme would pop up, because I
(23:21):
feel that every time you're a fan, you want something new,
something to change as the season starts. Maybe your old
lines better, maybe your quarterback's better. So to see Donald
go to a bad habit and trying to throw it
out to the flat immediately when he actually had Cooper
cup wide open over the middle. If he's looking that way, Doug,
I don't think he has hit it. Doesn't fumble at
least at that point they had a time out. If
(23:43):
he takes the sack, if the pressure isn't there. I'm
not blaming Sam Donald entirely because Nick Bosa pushed Abe
Lucas into his back. But Sam Donald also had his
worst production that he had had at any point last
year in Minnesota. Like he didn't he didn't throw throw,
he threw for more yardage than he did in every
game of the Vikings than he did yesterday. The Seahawks
(24:05):
had no running game and that's a concern as well.
And honestly, we talked about schedule last week. It really
stings when you lose to a division opponent at home
to start the season. But offensively, it just seemed all
out of sorts. Maybe it's because the forty nine ers
no Clint Kubiak so well that they can defend that
because Heckett's Shanahan system. Anyway, but it was a frustrating day.
(24:27):
If you're a Seahawks fan, it.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Very r'd be frustrating.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
I want to talk about speaking of you Donald, a
former Vikings quarterback, right, I want to talk about the
Vikings and the Bears and all that's at stake tonight.
By the way, I love the gross mischaracterization. I just
kind of went on a rant and some guy named
Geo is listening and he said at four and twenty
eight we weren't perfect, but then basically blamed Dollan and Il. Again,
(24:55):
some people just don't have the ability to actually listen.
I wasn't talking about my team. I was talking about
my team. The point of pointing out my own team
is to point out that I don't have all the answers.
I'm not acting like I have all of the answers,
but having lived in the world that most all of
(25:16):
you wonder what it's like, I'm telling you that in
the nil world, the hardest part, okay hardest part forget
all why you have money don't have money, is when
you're paying a kid to come play at a school.
Is do they actually care about playing for the school,
or playing for their teammates, or playing for their coach,
or do they simply care about playing for a paycheck?
(25:36):
And I think that rears its head especially early in
the season, and actually late in the season as well,
because late in season guys are checked out. But when
you're getting when you're down big, that's when all of
that gets called in the question, because there's no like.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
It's hard.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
You just showed up on campus as somebody gave you
a jersey and said, Hey, this is who these are
our rivals, this is what we like. This what you
don't like, you don't feel it for a while Stett
Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. We got a
bunch of things to get to but let's start with
tonight's Monday night football game. Okay, you have the Bears
at home, Caleb Williams new offense right against the Vikings,
(26:18):
who have had a great offense. Yet this is their
third quarterback in three years, third quarterback in three years.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Now.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
I love the fact that Jason Stewart and I are
completely lockstep in the let's not do these dumb predictions
where we do the score predictions or whatever. But I
do think this is a super interesting game, super interesting
game one divisional really early two. You got a coach
who Aaron Rodgers wanted to play for. The quarterbacks that
(26:46):
have played for in the past have had career type years,
right Hadford sapin San Donald happened the year before with
Kirk Cousins. So now you have JJ McCarthy, who, I
guess part of it would you'd say, his head coach
in college, Jim Harball, would do anything to win a game,
even if it was sacrificing his quarterbacks numbers which are great,
(27:06):
Like he's a winner, willing to not throw the football.
Or were they covering from the fact that he's just
okay and they didn't want to expose him. I think
it's fascinating, fascinating, no question. The pressure is on Caleb
Williams to play well, right, that's going to be the
Monday Night storyline because he was the number and overall pick.
(27:28):
But the JJ McCarthy part to it is really really
interesting as well done. We get Dan's mic up real quick,
that'd be.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
If they want Sam Donald, they can have No I'm kidding,
I'm just kidding. I'm not putting it all on Sam
Donald yesterday. Yeah, I think that the JJ McCarthy thing
is actually so under the radar because we're so focused
on Caleb Williams. Then when you have the Tie Dunn
article that he had a late last week, and I
know he was on the Herd earlier today talking about it. Again,
we're just focusing on the Bears aspect of this in
(28:02):
making it work. Vikings lost the two teams last year, Rams.
It was the Rams and Lions. And even though the
Vikings beat the Bears, Kaleb Williams had a pretty good
game against Minnesota, pretty good stat line. So again he's
the focus of this team. But again, Minnesota fourteen win
team from last year and now you're going to bring
(28:23):
in a new quarterback.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Yeah, Yeah, don't you guys think that this is a chance,
no matter if it's fair or not, and you could
accuse people of overreacting. Isn't tonight the chance for Ben
Johnson to win the weekend? Not only if they move
the ball and they start scoring points. It'll offer that
contrast of Kaleb Williams under Ben Johnson, and then the
(28:45):
contrast will also be drawn to the Lions looking like
crap yesterday. Isn't this his chance to win the weekend? Tomorrow?
When we were gonna say who was the biggest winner
from the weekend, we'd say Ben Johnson.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Also, I think it would really hurt the Lions respect
to the laws, because the Lions looked pedestrian offensively yesterday.
So if they look great as the juxtaposition of them
versus the Lions, it will be holy crap. The Lions
are in trouble. They lost this like quarterback genius. It's
also again part of it is is is when is
the next time we're going to have a standalone game
(29:17):
with Kayleb Williams. Let's get back to the Johnson thing.
Do you agree disagree?
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Byer?
Speaker 3 (29:23):
I think that Jason has a point. I so yes,
So I would agree. What was the hesitation is that
I think Ben Johnson was destined to leave at some point,
so Detroit was going to have to figure out life
after Ben Johnson and it just happened to actually be
a year later than many of us thought. I don't
think one game changes everything, So the hesitation was I
(29:46):
don't think it's solved in one game. But to Jason's point,
if Caleb Williams plays well tonight, considering what the Lions
didn't do yesterday, yes, I think that Ben Johnson would
win the weekend.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Was it the Commanders last year? Who was it last year?
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Who was like dancing at the end of the game
or try when they play the Commanders with the comeback?
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Was that the Bears?
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Right, so that rematch and by the way, the Bears
play at the Commanders again this year. Monday Night Football
in October October thirteenth, so it's until October thirteenth that
we got a standalone game with Caleb Williams.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
There's good and there's bad to it, right.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
All we do, all most people do is watch their game,
watch the local game, or maybe watch some Red Zone
and then check out the stats and check out what
people say about it, but in terms of the everyone
watching the growth and maturation of Kayleb Williams, this is
a really big game. Like you said, fair unfair. People
(30:42):
make a determination on who somebody is because they've watched
this is one of the home game, the only games
that they watched. I watched that whole game. Make sure

Speaker 3 (31:59):
The Buffalo Bills have banned the fan who shoved multiple
Baltimore Ravens players following a touchdown celebration by Baltimore during
last night's game. That fan has been banned from all
NFL stadiums indefinitely.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Okay, so we're looking for tickets for Buyer and Jaystone.
One's available, that's at least one, right, that guy's got
a ticket. And I'll tell you what if that guy
calls us, right, you want to DM us or you
guys know him, he calls us, we'll talk about the incident. Hey, now, listen,
we do need the ticket or tickets, but we'll put
(32:34):
you on air. We'll talk about the incident.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Can I just tell you an interesting experiment, and I'm
not sure if other football fans have had this experience.
But in looking for tickets for this game, I've been
eyeing them for a couple of months now because Jason
and I have talked about going to a game. We
didn't know if we wanted to go. We knew we
wanted to go in early fall, but the Bills play
(32:56):
a Thursday night, a Sunday afternoon, and a Monday night game,
so a bunch of different options. The Thursday night game
was like the least the cheapest of the lowest tickets.
The Sunday one o'clock Eastern time kick against the Saints
was actually the most expensive ticket out of those three games,
and that's Dolphins and Patriots were the other matchups may
(33:18):
have changed, but it wasn't necessarily the fact that it
was a good matchup. It's just fans wanted to go
to games that fit their schedule better.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
Is it because it's an Amazon game and Prime you
don't have to pay for shipping?
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Ah, he's got all these Oh look at that. I mean,
he's been a dad for a long time, so telling
a dad joke totally tracks.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
I just went and I went to ESPN a ticket
for the Saints Bills game at home one o'clock Eastern
time on Sunday, the twenty eighth is lowest two hundred
and sixty three dollars. The Thursday night game tickets as
low as one hundred and seventy one dollars dollars. Yes,
it's almost one hundred dollars difference. Other watch the Bills
(34:00):
crush the Saints than ruin their weekday plans.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Yeah, all right.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
In other news in the NFL, she said, coach Andy
Reid said wide receiver Xavior Worthy's day to day with
a shoulder injury suffered in that Friday night loss to
the Chargers fly Fire gonna. Yeah, I'm gonna try to
play with a brace if possible right now, not opting
for surgery.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
By the way, can I share my my favorite story
of my late father. Yes, my mom said, I think
I need braces. My dad said, which leg right, it's
a good one. Oh, give me the Arch Banning story
real quick, Yeah, I will.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
I just want to tell you that Brian Dables says
the team will stick with Russell Wilson as their starting
quarterback for Week two against the Dallas Cowboy.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
And look this real quick on the Giants.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Okay, I didn't never been I haven't been a buyer
Russell Wilson for a long time. There will be a
change coming in, but they obviously have a plan that
they're gonna stick with. In terms of when it comes in,
my guess would be after the Eagles game. Right for
Vegles game go on the road to Denver, but they
have they have time there because it's a Thursday night
(35:04):
game on Prime.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
We're ty to prep the kid. That's my guess.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
I know it goes against our radio fundamentals, but I
want to preview a new segment tomorrow. It's called Tuesday
Morning Quarterback in the afternoons. What we're gonna do is
this everything we didn't get to today. We're gonna decide
for what we think is most important. We're gonna throw
it out tomorrow. Brian day Ball is my subject. I'm
(35:31):
gonna tease it for tomorrow. So listeners at tomorrow at
what is it four o'clock Eastern, We're gonna debut a
news segment. I'm having Bob and video work on the intro.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Now.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
It's called Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoons.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Can't wait, Can't wait? Yes, debut tomorrow. Arch Manning the
The Talk around Austin is does Arch Manning have a shouldering?
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Yah?
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Well, Steve Sarkizian, the head coach of the Texas Longhorns,
was asked about it, well kind of. Here's the exchange
with the reporter earlier today.
Speaker 8 (36:09):
Arch Manning seemed to be having some throwing pains by
the arch arch said that to you, No, oh, according
to who, it just looked like he was.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
He doesn't have.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Any Is there an explanation to why he was?
Speaker 7 (36:23):
It looked like that.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (36:24):
I've never filed I've never filmed any of you guys
when you're using the bathroom, so I don't know what
faces you make when you're doing that.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
All right, he made a fake.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
He made a He definitely made it more than a
grimace when throwing the football.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
It was a wins, a wins.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
It's on tape. College football coaches, college coaches, Man, they're
all weirdoes.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Wait, what like that? Well, there's a speculation too that
arch has been side arming passes because of whatever is
wrong with his shoulder injury. We saw it against Ohio State,
and then we saw it this past week and again
for Texas even just search Arch Manning show and you're
seeing some of these side arm passes and the wincing
that you're talking about. But Sarkisian decided to take us
(37:06):
down a different lane. And by the way, Philly shorts
up Trey Turner grade one hamstring strain. Phillies hope that
he can make it back by the end of the
regular season and be available for the postseason. And that's
the press.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Baget out there and press.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
That was the press.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
Monday night football, Quick pick?
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Who do you like?
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Give me the Vikings?
Speaker 2 (37:35):
What do you like? Oh? I love the Bears show,
Love the Bears, Love the Bears, Love the Bears.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
But Dan Byer picked the Vikings. I'm still gonna go
with the Bears. Check out the podcast The Build.
