Trainer Games? Add this year binge list ten athletes go
ahead to head for a chance to win an iFIT
trainer contract. We're two hundred fifty thousand dollars streaming on
Prime Video starting January eighth. This is the Doug Gottlieb
Show you're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Got a great
second hour of the show, plus an even better podcast
for you. I'll save you a little chance. I think

(00:46):
it's absolutely positively despicable what the President and most powerful
man the free world has tweeted about Rob Reiner. It's gross.
It's gross, you know, and I don't. I don't know
enough about Rob Briner's political innings to actually care. The

(01:08):
movies he made are movies that will live forever. They're amazing, amazing,
And of course he was part of All in the Family,
which was my late father's favorite TV show, and his
name was Meathead on that show, Meathead, Meathead. That was great, Meathead.

(01:33):
Let's get to our cruise views on the weekend. What
we loved, what we hated? We call it love and hate.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
What did you love?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
God?

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I love you? And what did you hate?

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Meet these player hays.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Do do Do Do?

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Do?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Dan Byer, what'd you love from the weekend? My friend?

Speaker 4 (01:54):
I know this is selfish. I know this is not
what everybody wanted, but I love how the Seahawks survived
against the Colts. It felt very weird because there is
even a part of me that wanted to root for
Philip Rivers but ultimately couldn't, and I felt everybody else
was rooting for Philip Rivers. But take out the Rivers
portion of the equation for the Seahawks to win that game,

(02:16):
or they kick six field goals and now have the
Rams coming into town on Thursday night. It's the perfect
trap game, a perfect opportunity for them to not live
up to expectations. And it wasn't pretty at all, but
they were able to survive and come from behind, even
after the Colts thought that they had won it with
a sixty yard field goal of their own, for the

(02:39):
Seahawks to be able to get in the field goal
range and have Jason Myers kick a fifty six yard
or his sixth of the game to keep them alive
for the number one overall seed in the NFC. I
really enjoyed that yesterday, even though I think the rest
of America did not a.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Couple of things, a couple things. What it did was
it eliminated some ammunition for the talk space people, debate
space people like the Seahawks don't have that. Yeah, but
they lost to Blank, Like this is one of those
years where every single contender has a major flaw, whether

(03:15):
it be a loss, whether it be a personnel thing.
The Seahawks haven't had that like major flaw. So this
saved you Dan for the next three weeks of being like, yeah,
but they lost to Philip Rivers at home. You know
it's that would have been the major knock on the Seahawks,
and I don't think there is one. And also I
just realized yesterday as he kicked his six field goal

(03:36):
that Jason Myers combines the two horror icons from the eighties.
Did you know that?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yes, Jason and Mike Myers?

Speaker 5 (03:44):
Is that a thing? Do people talk about?

Speaker 4 (03:46):
This is middle Das Freddy.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Did you guys know that? Here's something? All right, let's
get to Sam Iowa, Sam, would you definitely weekend? Uh?

Speaker 6 (03:58):
You know what, when we get to about midway through December,
our college football regular season ends, play all of our
championship games the weekend prior, and then we got to
this past weekend and I was still hankering for some
college football and we're start of it's a little bit
of a rest period right now. Except for one thing.
We have the Army Navy game. Thank goodness we have

(04:20):
that because that's exactly what I was craving, and it delivered.
It usually delivers every year. It's always a competitive game,
usually a close game, and this was just a fantastic
Army Navy game seventeen sixteen. The Navy midshipman came back
and won it. And so if you were with some
withdrawal for some college football and you want to play,
you want to watch a game that matters to the

(04:41):
country and matters to these service academies. You had Army Navy,
which was a great game. And then later the night
was a bowl game between Washington and Boise State, but
it was a blowout. So Army Navy, thank you for
satisfying my college football cravings while we're in a bit
of a down period right now.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I loved Rob Reiner movies. You're here, this is spinal Tap,
The Princess Bride, stand by Me, when Harry met Sally Misery.
A few good men? I mean those are sleepingts in Seattle.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
Isn't a few good Men your favorite movie? Have I
Have I heard you say that?

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Of all time?

Speaker 5 (05:22):
Yeah? Is that? That's on the short list.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
I love the American President too, It's on the shortlist
American President. I mean, how good is that story of us?
I mean, you just go on on on a brilliant filmmaker,
A brilliant filmmaker. Throw Mama from the Train was also him.
Do you guys remember Throw Mama from the Train?

Speaker 5 (05:43):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (05:46):
I'm just sad today. I mean, you know, in the
worst ways to go ever with your wife, but killed
by your son. Awful, so sad. So instead I choose
the things I love. I just loved his movies, loved him,
love Them Love and obviously the time making those movies.

(06:08):
He's married to Petty Marshall, Right, she was an incredible
filmmaker in her own time. But love Rob Bryer movies,
Sad That He's.

Speaker 6 (06:16):
Gone and Doug you know, stand By Me is I
think for a lot of a lot of kids that
grew up in the eighties and nineties, that was a
really special film for a lot of reasons, just like
the story it told, the story of friendship. You know,
it's it's based on us book by Stephen King, The Body,
which a lot of people probably still don't realize. Stephen
King could do horror novels and he could do kind

(06:37):
of dramatic, kind of maybe a little bit comedic writings too.
That was just a movie that I wore out the
VHS on growing up.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Very special to me.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
I mean, like think about He's Got you know, a
few good men's in. One of the greatest movies of
all time. Discussion Spinal Tap is all time great sarcastic comedy.
What is that genre called.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Jase Stu documentary?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
The mockumentary, Yeah, the mockumentary style, right, rom coms. I
got two of the great rom comms of all time.
So it's not like like I love John Hughes films,
but John Hughes films all kind of felt the same.
They're all most of them were kids or teenage young
college films. They were all Chicago. They all felt kind

(07:28):
of the same. Rob Reiner was incredible and his films
felt different different genres.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
Chase very true. So I love Fernando Mendoza's acceptance speech.
For whatever reason, people are taking him to task for
it being scripted, and I would say I would much
rather see someone read a scripted, thought out, well thought
out speech than to just stumble across an improvisation like

(08:00):
everything Magic Johnson has ever done. A couple angles to this.
I love the specific part about this because it kind
of hits me home, and I take it very personally.
So I posted on Twitter, and the part that I
loved most it was his dedication to his mother. And
every once in a while I get one of these

(08:21):
tweets that gets in the algorithm and it just blew
up and went viral. And the problem with it going
viral was ninety eight percent of it was positives, the
two percent of it was I made the unforgivable mistake
on Twitter of being a white person who referred to

(08:42):
Fernando Mendoza as Francisco. My bad. That sucked, and I
was told that of course everyone looks the same and
all the racial jokes. So the great things you get
on Twitter, I got over the weekend, but this is
what I posted. Fernando Mendoza talks about his mother, Alyssa,
who I had not known this going in. Yeah, suffers

(09:05):
from MS.

Speaker 7 (09:07):
Mommy. This is your trophy as much as his mind.
You've always been my biggest fan. You're my light, You're
my why, You're my biggest supporter. Your sacrifices, courage, love,
those have been my first playbook and the playbook that
I'm gonna carry it through my side, through my entire life.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
He told me that.

Speaker 7 (09:24):
Toughness doesn't need to be loud. It can be quiet
and strong. It's choosing hope. It's believing in yourself when
the world doesn't give you much reason to Together, you
and I are rewinding what people think is possible.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
I love you.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
What an articulate expression of love and gratitude. What an
amazing thing to say, And I will I don't know
if I've admitted this on the radio. But my mother
suffered from MS. She was diagnosed in the late eighties
when they had no idea what it was until her
pass in two thousand and eight. So this one just
struck me right between the heart strings. What do you

(10:01):
want to say? I was a grown man in tears
as I watched this. But what a powerful moment and
what a contrast against Diego Pavia that we could probably
get to later on the show Completely Classless. Fernando made
a big fan on Saturday Night.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Hold on, I get let me, let me give my
pound of flesh. We don't have to say to people
to Skip Bayless, who apparently had an issue with the
speech being rehearsed or even written. You know, Skip, had
you actually played something in your life and achieved something

(10:40):
athletically in your life, okay, you would know that when
you receive an award, especially one as prestigious as the
Heisman Trophy, you're supposed to have something prepared. Matter of fact,
the criticism should be there when you aren't prepared, when
you haven't run through a speech, so than when you have.

(11:01):
When it's the biggest moment of your life. You want
to make sure and you recognize properly all the people
that helped you get to where you are. I'm most
embarrassed that I follow Skip Bayless on social media, that
I knew that he made comments critical of Fernando Mendoza's speech,
which was beautiful, heartfelt. He called his mom mommy on

(11:25):
National TV. You know what that is, Samanda's Amanda's Yeah,
I echo your sentiments. I'm embarrassed at Skip Bayless has
made as much money as he has in the media
because he is heartless, clueless, and clearly has not received
a prestigious award, which you have to prepare for because

(11:46):
he's not a professional speech giver. And even if he was,
you still want to prepare for it. He is a
football player, a good one, a Big Ten champion, a
Heisman Trophy winner, and in his spare time, whether he
wrote it, whether he rehearsed it, I don't care. He
came across heartfelt and he said what he needed to say.

(12:06):
Nobody ever goes back and goes, hey, were you prepared
for the critique of people should be If they're not
prepared for that moment, none that they are. Dan biroloo
Jate from.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
The Weekend Doug, there's been a lot of talk on
what is next for the Michigan Wolverines as their head coach,
and it has just been constant speculation with the biggest
and most desirable names that are still available in the
college football coaching cycle. And the reason that I hated
so much is because I think right now it's a

(12:37):
non story. And I'll use Kenny Dillingham as an example.
The Arizona State head coach was thought to be Calshe
had him as the leader for the most likely coach
to be the new head coach at Michigan for a while.
This happened throughout the weekend. The school president has said
that they are doing a complete investigation of the athletic department,

(13:00):
and Doug, if you're a college coach, not knowing if
the athletic director or the people that we're bringing you
in or being hired we're going to be around after
you accepted the job, would you be willing to take
that job. I don't think anybody would. I think there's
so much uncertainty. And it's not that Michigan did right

(13:20):
or did wrong. It's just the question of there are
no answers right now. And so the Kalindbor kalend War
had to put out a statement on Sunday again recommitting
his commitment to Alabama. I mentioned Ken Dillingham's name. He
had to talk about it this past weekend like it
is just I understand it's the nature of the cycle.

(13:41):
But this, the thing of this Michigan job right now
is appealing for anybody, is absurd considering you have no
idea what's happening on the other side of it.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
It's a great point. I do think whoever gets the
job will probably bring their own athletic director. I do
think that's the possibility. Whether Ward Made remains as athlet director,
I don't actually think. Because he did a great job
hiring Dusty Maine in the basketball side, and obviously he
stood by to watch Michigan and Jim Harball win a
national championship, he can be fired here because if he

(14:13):
knew and didn't do anything about it, or put people
off the trail, or delayed the findings, all that stuff
is a fireable fench. Sure, I guess would be whoever
takes it would be like I'm gonna come, but I
need you to hire this guy with me.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
And I you know, I mean, everybody knows my thoughts
on Michigan, but there's no denying it's a top ten,
top five job in college football. However, you you know so,
But just right now, it's just you can't take that
job if you have any hopes of or possibility of
landing another big gig elsewhere. Like Kenny Dillingham's gonna have
the same options next year if he wants to leave.

(14:46):
This is not the job to take right now.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Jay Stu, our resident hater, What j hate from the weekend?

Speaker 5 (14:51):
I am I hate the Chiefs. I'm supposed to because
I'm a Chargers fan. I hate the Chiefs. However, however,
those familiar with this program know that I have been
rooting for the Chiefs to make the playoffs because I
wanted to see their dynasty kind of have a fitting
end that somebody had to beat them, you know, beat
the man to be the man type of.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
D Are you one of the damn Marino humiliated in?
Was it Jacksonville? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (15:17):
Yeah, yeah that one?

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Yeah? Think by the Chargers at home? Is that enough?

Speaker 5 (15:26):
I mean it's one of those things where like I
love seeing the win. Really I feel bad for Patrick Mahomes.
To be honest, I don't feel bad for a Rashie Rice.
He took another shot yesterday. Maybe the Chiefs should wear
free Rashie Rice from Defenders Hitting the Crap out of
Them t shirts for next next week. But anyways, I

(15:50):
hated seeing the Chiefs go out. It's really kind of
sad and pathetic, Like this was the character that you
invested nine episodes in the show. You're binging the villain
who is very well written, and he just kind of
gets shot by a like a Swat team guy that
didn't have any speaking parts. He just kind of got
shot and died. It was just uneventful.

Speaker 6 (16:12):
Thanks, I was saying, Jason wanted to see the Chiefs
fall through a plate glass window into a boiling vat
of acid. That would have been the proper Hollywood send off.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
And the Swat guy without a speaking roll that they
just had to pay the day minimum to do the
acting job.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
It shot him gone is the villain fades to black.
They whoever they are, say that it's the most wonderful
time of the year.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Well, sure it is.

Speaker 6 (16:38):
If you've got your presence purchased, if you got your
tree up, if you got your sidewalk in driveway shoveled,
and all these things. I'm stressed out. We're ten ten
days away from Christmas, and I'm I get stressed in
this time of year. It getting people gifts, you know.
It's it's easier when everyone's in like your same neck
of the woods, and you can hand deliver them to people,
But when you have to order them online, have them

(17:00):
sent in time, or buy them and ship them yourself.
Like I'm I'm sol I'm up the creek without a
paddle now because we're ten days out and there's like
your package won't arrive until the twenty eighth, twenty ninth
is what I'm seeing now.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
So I am way.

Speaker 6 (17:14):
Behind, and I had to go on some long walks
instead of doing Christmas shopping. I want on some long
walks to clear my head because I do not do
well this time of year with trying to buy things
in Christmas presents on a schedule like this.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
I hate the Micah Parsons towards ACL not because I'm
I'm like some gigantic Micah Parsons fan. I do like
the Pack. I want to see the Pack and the
Chargers in the Super Bowl. I think the like good
of that is not strong. Both teams because of injury.
But more than anything, I just I feel like Micah
Parsons and when you're college but we talk about the

(17:50):
star team all the time. The best of the best
just play harder, more consistently. Like, yeah, he's talented, But
what I love about Michael Parsons is that guy has
no off switch. You know, you go back to the
week before and it was like, how many times are
he held in the no penalties called? He actually got
a holding penalty called, not all of them. But what
I love about him is he just feels like he

(18:11):
never quits. And that's not the guy that's supposed to
get hurt, right the sports gods of karma are supposed
to hand injuries to entitled players, to you know, arrogant players,
to spoiled players, to dirty players, and he's none of them.
I just I wanted to see the Packers go to

(18:32):
the Super Bowl, win the Super Bowl and my second
year in Green Bay, and I don't think that's gonna happen. Yes,
it's about me, but I'm it's what I love and
what I hate from the weekend, and that's love and
hate for all of us.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Stut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio So Diego. Pavia,
who is famous for the Pavia Rule, was a finalist
for the Heisman Trophy. He had an incredible year at Vanderbilt. Incredible.
They only lose one game. They don't get the College
Fall Playoff, but he had an incredible, incredible season. Sorry,

(19:20):
they're tending too. They lost two games my bet, so
those two games don't get the College Twell playoff, goes
to the Heisman Trophy award, show doesn't get it and
proceeds to make a complete clown of himself by holding
up was it a metal sign or whatever? That said

(19:40):
F the voters? F the voters. Circle back to today
a couple days later, when he apologized for his behavior
over the weekend. But I don't know, man, a guy
who got to play six years in college football. Six years,
you get the invited to the high trophy ceremony, you

(20:01):
don't win, and that's how you carry yourself. I said.
It's like it's like where Menzel meets Uh, what's the
what's the what's the movie with the models? Where they
have that? That Shane? And the is it blue Steel? Right?
Where's Blue Steel? I mean, the whole thing was just

(20:23):
such a clown show. It felt like they were playing
dress up. It felt like they were playing dress up
and Zoolander. That's what it is. Lander. It it overshadowed
a Heisman Trophy award that nobody was really paying attention. No,
it wasn't that big, but man, what a clown show

(20:44):
this weekend. Is there anybody out there defending Diego Pavia
other than Skip Alos Dan? Do you know anybody who's.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
No, I've not seen one person.

Speaker 5 (20:55):
I think him and this collection of like UFC fans
and like, I mean it, it's just it's kind of
indicative of just the lack of humility and decency that
a portion of our country is partaken in right now.
I think he felt very comfortable saying if the voters

(21:17):
because his boys, you know, behind him on that. His
apology was by his agent. I mean, if he wants
a future in football, he had to apologize today, and
and he did apologize, but he gave the old you know,
I'm a competitor, you know, and I lost. I lost,
you know, but yeah, a lot of people have lost,
a lot of people have lost that award. No one's

(21:37):
ever acted that way.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Yeahf all the voters, but family for life. F Indiana,
much love, and then he wrote on next, much love
and respect for Heisman vote Heisman voters like what what? Huh?
Go ahead?

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Dan?

Speaker 4 (21:58):
My favorite line was the last line in the entire statement.
I look forward to competing in front of my family
and with my team one more time in the Reliah questable. Yes,
there it is. That's they got Iowa's last in the
old outback.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
But of course it's the die He's like five to nine,
so he's not gonna be I mean, he'll get a
shot in an NFL camp. He may get drafted late rounds.
Whatever what happens to Diego Poppy Diego PAVI in five
years is doing what Dan Byer.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
Best case scenario is a backup I think in the NFL.
But that's best case scenario.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Jase do.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
I don't know. I think maybe one of these like
pseudo celebrity podcasters who uh speaks to his UFC bas Well, he's.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Like an RG, He's like a he's like an RG.
Three type where he says there's a lot of things
that don't make sense, but because he was a really
good college fall player. But like, yeah, let's put him on.
He's different. I think he'll again if you're smart, he's
on the SEC network, started started broadcasting career early. Just

(23:15):
dive into that persona full time, be the heel, be
the UFC personality. Heck go WWE if you want, right,
and uh, they need somebody new senior retired over the weekend.
They need another guy. That's why I think you dive in, Sam,
what's your prediction five Yearsha, what's doing?

Speaker 6 (23:34):
Champion of the USFL. I don't even is that a
league even around anymore?

Speaker 2 (23:39):
No, a great question. I'm just a great question.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
They combined it, right, it's XFL, USFL slash UFL or something.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Are they taking a year or maybe forever off?

Speaker 4 (23:49):
I think they heard he did that. I think we're
on the other side of that. Yes, So there's there's
something to this. There's something of you know, because and
you just do a Diego Pavia search you get his
Twitter handle and there's a lot of Heisman stuff. But
there's also him bringing his offensive lineman to New York
and being able to take like it's not a fine line,

(24:10):
because the line is thick of being a good sport
and of having class and then doing what he did
with the social media post. But for these guys, and
it's not everyone, but I almost even venture to say
maybe more than haven't, like this is the high point
of their of their career, maybe the high point of

(24:33):
their life outside of maybe starting a family or having children,
whatever the case is. So like, there's this expectation to
or I think that the reality of taking advantage of it,
But then when you do it like that, it's so
I mean, it's just Julian Sand's probably going to be
a Heisman candidate next year, but there's no guarantees going
to be even back for that ceremony. I mean, who

(24:57):
knows what can happen in a year. I appreciate like
taking the moment and having it be like, hey man,
we're never going to have this opportunity again. But it's
the it's the other stuff. It's the video at the
party where he's holding a sign, you know, like that
stuff like that's just flicking off the Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Apple trees make apples. His mom likes the attention as
much as he does, so, you know, a lack of
class is clearly shared in that and again when I
was twenty four years old. I don't know if I
always I can guarantee I didn't always act the way
I should have acted. But there's got to be some

(25:39):
room for perspective. There's got to be a room for dude.
I was at New Mexico State, and because of COVID,
I've gotten two years of seven figure salary to play
quarterback at one of the greatest institutions in the United States,
in the best college football league in the United States.
We've had a better year than any or two years

(26:02):
than anybody ever thought possible. I'm just you know, he
could have said, I'm just a fat girl the problem.
I'm happy to be here. I don't know if that
would have gone over well, but it would have landed
better than the ones he The message he landed, it
just speaks so poorly to him, especially because his coach
has so much class, right Like, his coach even handled

(26:23):
the not getting in the college football playoff with a
ton of class. Not Diego Pavia. He literally that. He
reminds me. I share with you guys that caption if
ax body Spray was a person, it would be Diego Pavia.
That's great, but I think Jay Stu you nailed it.
Like That's when I think of USC fight fans. That's
what I think of. I think of guys that a

(26:46):
little bit smaller and they're supposed to be for whatever
they do. They got a massive bag of chips on
their shoulder, like a that they wear like a badge
of honor, and they walk into a room like their
Connor McGregor. They all take on that persona and that's
who he thinks he is. And I just it looks
so clownish, considering how corporate, how important the presentation is,

(27:13):
and the confirmation bias that that happens. Because afterwards, I'm like,
I walked in going like, I think Pavio is better,
but Mendoza is gonna win. And then Mendoza wins, and
people say, like, I thought Pavio should have won it.
But Indiana, the losingest high major football program of all time,
is undefeated and the number one seed in the first

(27:34):
ever you know, real tournament. Last year's was sort of
first ever, but you know, putting Boise State in the buys,
I don't think worked like they legitimately earned the number
one overall seed. Whether you think they're the best team
or not, you can't argue with winning at Oregon and
beating Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game, and
for Indiana football, incredible, incredible. But it is up to

(27:59):
Pavia to have some person effective. He has none. He
has none. He's just all all hat and he's got
some cattle. He can play football, he's a good player.
There's probably too small play in the NFL if you
kind of get around to it.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
Well, he's also by the way, when he sent that
message to the photos voters, it was a lot of
them because Mendoza won by a significant margin.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Well but again when he says voters, the voter's voted
for him too, is that like them?

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Well, I mean guess the ones that didn't vote for
him for first place? Yeah, but yeah those, Yes, he'll
take all of your second place votes and whatnot.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
For over forty years, Tyrek has been helping custopers find
the right tires for out what where they drive. Ship

the Way Tire buying should be okay. Coming up next
in The Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio,
more details on the severity of Pat mahomes knee injury.
That's next.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Be sure to the live edition of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
That's the Doug Gottlieb Show. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
We didn't talk a ton about Philip Rivers returning, and
I did think that pr gave great perspective after the game.
And I understand he's twenty years older than Diego pavia

(29:31):
So and he's a grandpa, not just a dad, so
he can give that perspective. But it's the idea of hey,
I did something that everyone thought I couldn't do. Did
you win? No? But I did it. It's the old
man in the arena thing. So let's get you to

(29:52):
the press with Dan Byer.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
Dan the Press, Doug, we saw what happened to patri
Mahomes yesterday in that game against the Chargers. It was
confirmed after the game that Mahomes suffered a torn acl
in his leftknee in that loss Today, head coach Andy
Reid said that Mahomes is getting a second opinion on
the knee injury.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Nobody ever gets a second opinion on good news. Mister Gottlieb,
you don't have cancer, doc, I need a second opinion.
He got the news that his ACL was torn. Probably
how they want to do it. I'm guessing that they're
gonna use a patell attendant and smartly he's going to
get a second opinion. Sucks, but I do think Look,

(30:36):
it's going to challenge him to be in better shape
in the offseason. He can't. He likes to put on
a little offseason. Wait, he'd got to rehab this thing hard.
If he does, Pat Mahomes be fine.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
The other big injury of the day from Sunday obviously
Micah Parsons of the Packers. He suffered a torn ACL
in his left knee. He is done for the season,
taking the social media making a post saying that he
will not be defeated because of this injury. But Micaeh
Parson's confirmed done for the year for Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
Yeah. One interesting thing. Both of those injuries appeared on
natural grass, so I know we walk around with the
assumption those things only happen on the field turf, not
the case in Denver and not the case in Kansas City.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
So you're saying that turf or the turf isn't as
dangerous or you just.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Pointed out I think it is dangerous. But again, it's
a dangerous sport and guy's bodies. You know. It's like
we all want to point out that the kid from
Indiana who tours, I think he tore his knee right
the line was defensive lineman where he's jumping up slap bys, like, oh,
well he was on he was on turf. That's what happens.
It can happen anywhere. It can happen anywhere. I think

(31:45):
it's harder on you with with your head and on
some of the stops and goes. It's not as natural,
but I mean it's hard to play football in the
cool weather anyway.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
The injury rate in the NFL, this is always it's
very simple, but it stands out to me all the time.
The injury rate is one hundred percent, and so you're
going to get hurt if you play football. But yesterday's game,
I would just say to that is those were both
contact injuries in a way where Parsons was pushing against

(32:18):
the linemen and Mahomes was being tackled and so his
leg was a certain way. I think it's the other
ones that where it's the non contact. I mean, Daniel
Jones was you know, hurt on grass as well, But
I think that that's more of the issue.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Okay, right, I thought Parsons was non contact. I did
think Mahomes' contact, but I just started was engaged.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
I thought like he was like like with the you know,
like not nobody rolled up on him or anything, but
he was. Anyway, they're both done for the year. Moving on,
New York Jets fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilkes today. Maybe
my favorite stat of the season. I mentioned this earlier.
The Jets have not picked off in opposing quarterback.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
Yeah, possible, they.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
Have zero earlier when you said that, Dan, that how yes,
So the Bears lead the NFL. Their defense does twenty
one interceptions. The Jets have zero. The Vikings Giants at
forty nine ers are next fewests with five. So it's
not like there's like a team that only has one,
like the other worst teams have five.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
There isn't even like a I would say, what more
than half or at least half of the interceptions are
just luck plays tip yes, like there's.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Like hey again, I don't know. Again, I don't know
where the the lawsuit stands, but Steve Books sued Arizona
for firing him after only one year's coach. Now. I
don't know if you guys remember, do you remember? I
did two play by play games on radio for Compass? Okay,
one of them was the Cardinals versus the Chargers in

(33:56):
Carson And when I say the Cardinals were inept, it
was that would I mean, everybody was like, God, this
is the worst team I've ever seen. Well since then,
he was Missouri's defensive coordinator for a year. He was
with the Carolina Panthers for one year. He was their
passing game coordinator, secondary coach, and then he was their

(34:17):
interim coach at the end of the year. He was
the Niners defensive coordinator for a year. He was with
Charlotte as a voluntary advisor, and then with the Jets
for a year. So I guess my question is is
he going to sue all of those places because he
was only there a year? As well?

Speaker 4 (34:36):
I will say when Baker Mayfield tried to call him out.
Remember when the yes, he's on the list of revenge people. Yeah,
and then Steve Books is like the intermed coach has
no power over personnel decisions, Like yeah, I wasn't like
let's get let's get that Mayfield guy out of here.
He was a disaster in Carolina. But Doug, your point

(34:58):
about what's going on with Steve Will afterwards is well
taken cold, said coach Shan Steiken confirmed Philip Rivers will
start again in week sixteen against the forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Cal sort do you think he is today? I mean
everything hurts right, He's probably done the cupping, you know,
the cupping thing, you know, the cupping, acupuncture, ACU, pressure, yoga,
you name. And he woke up today and his body
It's like, oh my, what was I doing?

Speaker 5 (35:25):
There was a couple hours yesterday on Twitter where for
all of a sudden, it became in vogue to fat
shame people like I think Sam monson PFF was like, man,
how much does that guy weigh? Like there was just
a bunch of fat jokes and I'm thinking I thought
that we were supposed to do this. What's going on
here is for whatever reason, the Philip Rivers created that

(35:49):
safety space for people that like the fat chame issue.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
I like that people called him unk. Yeah, that's a
big thing. Now you call older people have been doing
something well unk.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
Well it was Uncle Phil as well, which was when
that worked.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Oh I like that? Like that. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
Sixty Minutes did a piece on Kurt Signetti and the
Indiana football program. Something was revealed in that piece that
I did not realize. Do you guys know that John
Mellencamp has his own booth atop the press box so
he can smoke and watch the game.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Nod. That's most Indiana thing I've ever heard in my life.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
I mean, the guy bought them an indoor football facility
decades ago, so you can do it, he wought. But
it was shown the of the press box, and I
assume that there's some suites in there, but because he
wants to smoke, he's in his own. It almost looks
like a warming shed atop the press box in Bloomington.

(36:47):
I thought it was I thought it was great. But
it talks about always been such a diehard Indiana fan
for so long. And finally, ESPN reports the NBA is
considering to not using Las Vegas as a champions Chip
site for the NBA Cup next year. They were already
moving off of the site for the semi finals. They're
gonna have them on home courts. No word if it's

(37:08):
gonna be a neutral site or a home court. But
looks like Las Vegas is calling falling, maybe completely out
of the running for any of that. For even nobody
showed up, there was no buzz. There was it's cold.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
In Vegas in December. It was clearly planned by somebody
in New York City who doesn't know anything about Las Vegas, like, well,
Brandon Arena, hotel rooms are cheap, It's Vegas. It'll be great,
and you get out there like, well, it's cold, it's
the High Desert. It's the High Desert.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
That's the press.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Get out there and pressed.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
That was the press.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Gotta lean a night buyer. You got Steelers versus.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
Dolphins, Leaning Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Yeah, I am as well. It's three for three and
a half. I'd really like them. I'm gonna take the Steelers.
I'll take the other side to it. Have a great night.
