Fox Sports Radio iHeartRadio App. Welcome in, I I uh,

(00:35):
I gotta talk about this.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
This is.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Uh, this is good. It's the Doug Gotleb Show on
Fox Sports Radio. I want to talk about it. There's
some recent comments by Stephen A. Smith. I want to
have a real discussion about something he said in regards
to less work next year in the NBA. But before

(01:01):
we get to that, I want to start with this.
So Avery Johnson or can I? Can I try? I
don't do a great Avery Johnson? Does anybody do a
good Avery Johnson? Jay Stu, can you do one? What
about you? Buyer? Can you guys do an Avery Johnson?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
I'm not a big guy, an impressions guy. The only
impression I do is a bane from Batman.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Cedric the entertainer, I think does the Avery Johnson the best.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yes, uh, he says, man, man, give me give me
Cooper flag. Cooper flag on this team. Yeah, give me
Cooper flag. This team is gonna be tremendous once Kyrie
Irving gets healthy. So essentially he's saying, I'd rather have
Cooper flag than Luca. Now, I do think the team's

(01:52):
gonna be really good, we think. Remember not the first
knee injury, knee surgery for uh, for Kyrie Irving. Kyrie
Irving is not a spring chicken. Actually, you know what,
I don't know Kyrie Irving's age, but I'm gonna guess here.
I'm gonna guess Kyrie Irving is thirty four. Hey, Sam,

(02:18):
can you use that machine at Google machine and see
if I'm right. I'm gonna go with thirty four.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
You're close.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Think what is he?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
He's thirty three?

Speaker 1 (02:27):
And what's his birthday?

Speaker 2 (02:28):
March twenty third, nineteen ninety two.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Okay, okay, So remember he's had he had a big
toe injury when he was in college and when he
was in Cleveland. Do you guys remember there was once
a graphic on all of the injuries that he's had, Like, damn,
that dude's had a lot, and then he broke the
patella on his knee in the NBA Finals, and then

(02:53):
when he broke the battella, he had a he had
mesh put in to help it, you know, so it it,
it healed, but then the mesh was irritating him and
that's why he had and he had actually screws put
in his knee, and the screws he had like a
dead bone in the knee and they had to take
out the screws kind of emergency wise. He's had a
bunch of surgeries. So again, if you do fantasy basketball

(03:18):
and you're like, well, Kyrie's this and this is this
and this is that, and you're like, yeah, sort of,
but we have no idea if he'll come back. And
Kyrie's not a point guard. So I still think they
need a point guard. Regardless of which we have done
this thing where we're like, hey, Luca's really really really
really really really really really really good, really really good.

(03:40):
I also think it's the whole This whole week has
been fascinating because it's like Lebron admitting is not a
top five to ten, maybe even fifteen player. No one's
taken a minute or maybe No one believes that Luca
will play defense or get into shape, even though the
videos appear to tell us once again, Luca's got his
summer slim on and now you got a ree Johnson

(04:00):
trying to commit it, trying to convince us that the
Mavericks will be better with Cooper Flag than they would
if they had Luka doncik. I don't know. I think
Luca's pretty book good boys, even when he's husky and
out of shape and doesn't play defense. That husky out

(04:22):
of shape Luca took a team to the NBA finals
for For forty years, Tyrek has been helping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive.
Ship fast and free and back by free road has
protection with convenient insallation options like mobile tire installation. Tyrek
dot Com the way tire buying should be buyer. Do
you see where steven A's like can't wait for inside

(04:44):
the NBA so he can work less NBA games.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I did not see that.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
No, yeah, I thought that was interesting. Yet the the
steven asation of every sport since the new contract has
been a lot. I think the mistake is this, this
is this is my belief. I'm gonna give away what
I would do if I had steven A on our

(05:10):
roster at Fox, at Fox Sports, or if I was
in charge of the ESPN or whatever. And this is
actually my idea. When they had Skip Bayless and Shannon
and that show is getting ground, I would put steven
A on a debate set after any of my sporting events.
Just pop it up, get the topics and go get

(05:33):
It's not my jam. I don't I find holes in
these arguments. I find some of the topics to be
sort of laughable. You know, it's obviously over the top,
But like, what does he do best? What he does
best is debate, right, That's what he does best. And

(05:56):
if that's what he does best, why are we putting
him in all these other situations where he's not nearly
is good. He's just not and there has to be
a likability factory doesn't have it. Now. The issue is, Okay,
who do you have to debate him? My thing would
be like, okay, put somebody who's in the sport. You know,
if it's the Orlabsky's of the world, the Damian Wood

(06:16):
is the world after Monday night football, give you your
Steven a debate thing instead of putting him on the
set where it doesn't really work. Do you like the
idea buyer?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah, I mean it's fine.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Honestly, Like I don't necessarily care on what they do.
I just I do think that it's over usage. I
just don't think anybody is necessarily equipped to talk about
every single topic about everything. But I can get the
usage during the NBA season. But I think you got
to pick one or the other. You're either going to

(06:51):
use him as an NBA guy and he's going to
be your NBA guy on set and talk about NBA,
or you're just going to have Hi be first take
guy and talk about all these different topics. And so
that's where that's where I just I mean, I don't
I like stephen A. I mean, just as I've said
personally here, when he was here, he was great. He's

(07:12):
great to me at least, So I don't I don't
get up in arms in over this stuff.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
I it's just not my jam. I'm gonna be honest.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
JAYU is Rome in the Radio Hall of Fame. He
is yep, okay, because I saw where Cowherd is. He
got getting inducted in this year's class, right, yes, yeah,
And for people don't know, Jayce dou worked for Jim
for fourteen was it fourteen years? That was? I math? Right?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Fourteen years? When I first got the job. The person
that hired me was Craig Kitchen. Craig Kitchen ran Premiere
Radio Networks at the time, Career Channel Purchase Purchase Premiere,
which became Queer Channel, be came iHeartMedia anyways. Craig Kitchen

(08:03):
later became the manager of Jim Rome and Rush Limbaugh.
Craig Kitchen is one who is in charge of the
Hall of Fame committee, and our own Julie Talbot will
be welcomed as well this year.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Oh good for Julie. That's pretty awesome stuff. Is there
anybody who's not in? I mean, Colin should be in? Right?
Is Dan in?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Good question?

Speaker 1 (08:27):
I assume so I would one would assume, right.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
And you were talking Dan Patrick, you're not talking about myself.
I am not in.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Just a clarify, yeah, that's okay, Just for those wondering,
for those that may be driving around thinking that I
am a Radio Hall of Famer, I am not.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
We're going to start that campaign though, We're gonna get
that going. It's not me.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Oh, I do that. I'd get down for that. Dan
Buyer for Radio Hall of Fame. It's awesome what.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
I've confirmed that he is a Hall of Famer.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Dan Patrick is yep. I do wonder what took Colin
so long to get in?

Speaker 2 (09:00):
There is the Radio Hall of Fame? Is there one?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Or is it just kind of this state of mind thing,
like is there an actual like like brick and mortar
Radio Hall of Fame building or is it decentralized.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
I'm gonna go with New York City, do we know?

Speaker 3 (09:15):
I mean, the Museum of Broadcast Communications is what I'm
looking at, and it looks like it's coming in October.
So I guess there is not a physical place yet to.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Chicago, Chicago.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
What is the tie to Chicago with the radio Fame Again,
I'm just wondering here, Like Bowling Hall of Fame is in?
Is that in Indianapolis?

Speaker 4 (09:40):
I remember correctly the Bowling Hall of Fame was in
Saint Louis at one point. Yes, But I don't know
if there's right Hall of Fame too, just so aware.
I thought there it was right across the street from
the Old Bush Stadium, but I think it moved.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Hmmm. I do wonder who's in the bowling Hall of
Fame or the Radio Hall of Fame, right, And and
there's no sports radio Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Arlington, Texas is a bowling Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
And why Lewis, why why?

Speaker 2 (10:19):
I don't I don't know.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
I literally found out five seconds ago it's in Arlington,
So why it moved? I mean, this is this is
an amazing ask of you, Doug.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
I mean again, I don't know. I'm not fashioned by this,
but like somebody's got to know, Like, because when you
think of bowling, you do think of the Midwest, right,
People in the Midwest bowl sure, right? I mean, Jason,
when was the last time you went bowling?

Speaker 3 (10:43):
I don't know, six months ago. I look bowling.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
I I'm like a I'm like a game and a
half guy. Right halfway through my first game, I get
warmed up and I'm decent, and then the start of
the second game like now I kind of got a plan,
and then I start to suck again, and then by
in the sad game, then somebody always goes like, let's
play another game, like eh, and I'll just not even
finish the third game I just won't. I'm off to

(11:07):
something else. So if there's a way which you could
get like my sixth frame to the sixteenth or seventeenth frame,
and that could be my game of bowling, I'd be
pretty good.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
Thanks to a Buzz Trilliams in the great state of
Texas congratulating me in my Hall of Fame induction. There
you go, Thank you very much, Buzz. Great to hear
from you.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Hof. You know, here's just the thought Dan. You know,
in basketball and if you ever call the college basketball
game or ever read through a bio for anybody, I
don't know if people they still do this where people
get nominated for the McDonald's All American Game, right, and

(11:52):
like literally everybody gets nominated. I mean there's like four
thousand nominations per year, and every bio says he nominated
for mc donald's All American. Right, So what if okay,
stick with me here. Okay, neither of us are Radio
Hall of Famers. We were both nominated. I'll tell you why.
How I know you're nominated. I would like to nominate
Dan Byern for Radio Hall of Time Fame. So now

(12:16):
we could go. Hey, remember twenty five Buyer was nominated
nominee for the Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago, Illinois.
And now when we introduce you, okay, we'll introduce you
as he was nominated for the Radio Hall of Fame.
Please get up for Dan Buyer.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Buyer be magnificent, right, pretty good.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
I know I would not think in my induction speech,
Iowa Sam, especially for what donald went down in the
last commercial break.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Jason Stewart can attest to.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
There would be they would be like, wow, he did
not think Iowa Sam for what went down for his
Hall of Fame speech.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Okay, you did open the door. What went down in
the last last break.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
Big fireworks, just just fire some fireworks that were going on.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Professional disagreements.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Just yeah. Two radio guys topics going head to head, well.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
One one Radio Hall of Fame nominal nominee.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
And I'd like to think Doug Gottlieb and Jason Stewart,
Chris Purfett and Ryan Smith. And there would be like
it would be like the clean omission, like where it
would purposely like I would you would think like, Okay,
I'm next, and then I would just go like right
around it.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Guess I wouldn't even be watching.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Sam honest question. Can you just give me the topic
that you're arguing about.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Oh, just technical stuff, honestly technical stuff. I'm going to
leave it up to Jason Stewart. Can can we say
it or share?

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Come on, let you behind the curtain.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
Yeah, you know, the we're very concerned about the sound
of the show, all three of us, and when the
when the show doesn't sound right and there's something that
happens on a regulars that the show sounds a little worse,
then we try to nip it in the butt, you know.
And uh, tempers flared, and but it always has to

(14:09):
do I don't call any tempers. It always has to
do with you.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Dog.

Speaker 5 (14:13):
It was me.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Well, I didn't get a text, so I don't know
what you're talking about. But okay, sounds good. Hey, Sam's like,
you should share what your day was like, all right,
because when I sat down and I put on the
headphones today.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
You had a long morning when you did that?

Speaker 1 (14:30):
No, I had I had a long morning. Yes, I
had like four meetings. I was told that I had
a meeting at seven this morning, only to be told
by somebody. I asked, repeatedly, are you sure we're doing
a meeting at seven in the morning. Yes, so I'm
up at five, I work out, I get coffee, I'm ready.
I popped my laptop. Nobody's in the zoom session, and
I'm like, that's weird. I was told repeatedly seven. I'm like, ah,

(14:53):
we got the time zone wrong. Right. Then I had
like three other meetings. They all dragged me down, like dude,
I I just I just want to be able to
do my I hate me, you know, I don't like meetings.
And then some of them my own meetings, and then
I anyway, you had to get to where you're just like,
I can't meet with anybody ever. And then there's meetings
that I want to have but I'm irritated by previous meetings.

(15:14):
And then now I got to lock in and do
sports radio. So this is more of a me pout
session more than anything. But I was completely prepared for
my day, only I was told time zones that didn't
actually fit, even though I repeatedly asked like, are we sure?

Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yes, Look, you got you out of bed, got you
up and going.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
I get out of bed anyway, no problem, early riser,
I was in my sleep number.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
I was So the meeting was actually at nine am,
like it was okay.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Yes, all right, yes, but it was also something that
I had to prepare for, so like I made sure
like all right, five, get up, work out, coffee, make
sure you open the laptop so you know what you've
talked to, you know who you've who you've called, all
these other things, and then you know. Then it's one
of those things that when you have and again full

(16:05):
disclosure of letting everybody in, I'm not I do the
performance stuff. I don't do the planning stuff particularly well.
Now I have people that plan stuff for me. So
I have my day, all right, seven to eight, I'm
doing this, eight to eight thirty, I'm doing that, eight
thirty nine doing that, nine, I'm doing that. And then
when something gets doubled up, now I'm screwed and I
look like I'm the bad guy who double book meetings
when the reality is to people who plan the meetings,

(16:27):
didn't understand the time, zon't change. That's it. So yeah,
I had a day. But just like Dan, Dan, you
and Sam say no so nice about each other, Like
Sam Saint Dan has really good hair.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Stug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio. Ryan Hollins joins us
here on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Ryan, of course knowing
is part of our family at Fox Sports Radio, Fox
Sports Radio NBA analyst, but it's also the lead analyst
for the Houston Rockets TV network. So Ryan, there's a
lot of teams to talk about. Everyone's talking about the Rockets.
What do you think of what they've done?

Speaker 5 (17:18):
You got to be a static at the moves that
have been made. And you know, sometimes you can just
spend money to spend money, but I feel like every
need was essentially met. And you know, the Rockets were
hitting a problem and I wouldn't say it's necessarily a problem.
It's a good problem to have, but there was like

(17:38):
too much young talent, and the question was, al is
all this going to work? And I firmly believe that
when you do things the right way, it ends up
paying off. And now you know, Houston is a co
location where it looks like guys want to come and play,
they want to be a part of what's going on.
And that's why they've hit these home runs in free agency.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, so
paint the picture for me of what they look like
taking the floor next year from your perspective, you know
this game, you know, I mean, obviously we know they're
gonna throw Kadi out there, right what's that line up
look like?

Speaker 5 (18:16):
I think, you know, and this is from my mindset
what I've seen. I haven't spoken with the coaching staff
or anything from it, but I think the fill is
to stick with EM's mentality and the culture that he's
built of hardenills, defense, commitment on both sides of the ball,
and then you add in the scoring of Kevin Durant

(18:36):
and then you know, you try to keep it going
as best as possible. And the one position that was
that was that was really missing for some time, and
Houston was a shot blocker, and you get that in
Clint Capella. So that's goal right there, and you get
to compliment out friend Shan Goon. And as good as

(18:56):
Steven Adams was during the season, Stephen didn't didn't play much,
you know, he played about every other day. So now
you get an opportunity to say, well, Steven Adams is
not playing, there's not going to be this severe drop
off to the ball club. And that's something that you
saw a lot of. So hopefully the offense matures along
with the defense that was far ahead of pace in

(19:18):
the offensive rebounds. But I think he may is going
to look to maintain, you know, the nuts and bolts
of what he built and while the group was number
two in the Western Conference this season.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
We haven't talked since Rich Paul had his statement about
Lebron's future with the Lakers. He covered the league, but
he also played in the league with Lebron. Most everybody
in the past quarter century has played obviously in the
league with Lebron. What's your take on the Lebron and
Lakers situation.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
I think this is just from my mindset and what
I've seen, and we can assume. I think there's new
ownership coming in town. I think maybe there's questions about where,
you know, Lebron stands with him and I think for himself,
he's each on the gauge where.

Speaker 6 (20:02):
His value is now.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
The intriguing thing, Doug is I don't realistically see a
spot or a team where he can go with the
money that he is making. So I don't know how
that would necessarily play out. That not that Lebron is
not playing at a high level. Stiller can bring a
lot of value to an organization, but what sense would
that make at that number? And then again for an organization,

(20:26):
you're saying, well, how long how much longer does he have?
He's played longer than any of us could have could
have dreamed or you know, even imagined, you know, and
Lebron's amazing in itself. So I think it's extremely intriguing.
And then you look at the addition and people have
thrown this out of Luka Dacics and just saying, well,
what does that mean for Lebron James at the end

(20:49):
of the day. So I think, I don't know a
scenario where he gets moved or he gets traded and
how that would ultimately play out. But at the end
of the day, I think what it says is just
there's uncertainty with his new ownership staff and Lebron and
Ridge Fallen Company are trying to see where they stand.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Stug Gottlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. That's the
voice of Ryan Hollins. Why is is Jannis really upset
that they bought out Damian Lillard.

Speaker 5 (21:26):
I think maybe things hadn't been run by him, or
maybe this is a spoke spreen that says that they
were and he hated it and he wants to stay
out of it, you know, obviously, you know, I think
as much as it's a business, Giannie is old school
and he has a high level of respect for guys
like Lillard and just the integrity behind the game. A
lot large reason why he's still a Milwaukee Buck at

(21:46):
the end of the day. Is he upset. I don't know.
I'm spoken to his people if not, but I think
it's just the integrity that he has of wanting to
step out and do things the right way and just man, Doug,
I don't know if I'm crazy. It's just a wacky
time in the NBA. Like like you have one of
the younger teams that's ever won the championship, Lebron James,
still playing at a high level. He's talking about being traded.

(22:08):
This is like two decades worth of basketball that we're seeing.
And then Damian Lillard, a megastar, gets hurt, and that
just gets hurt. He gets spot out of one hundred
and twenty two million dollars. This is just an intriguing
time and I think we're stepping into just different waters
from NBA basketball all the way around. It's I think
everybody's trying to figure out what the next landscape of

(22:29):
the league is going to look like. And I think
we loves like this show us because as good as
Indiana was, Miles Turner moves on to Milwaukee, and I
think that that puts Milwaukee in their front court with
Bobby Portis right in the thick of things with everybody.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Yeah, I mean also, I mean I think you Milwaukee,
India and Boston, you know, they're just like, hey, we're
not going to have these guys next year, so we
got to kind of we got to move on from them.
The one part that I would push back on, do
I think Lebron's playing at a high level, Yeah, but
if he's really a top fifteen player still and we
have Luca and we both would agree lucas a top fifteen,

(23:07):
top ten, maybe top five player, Like the I want
to win a championship, but I can't win a championship
in LA, Well, then you must not be a top
fifteen player anymore, which again is Okay, you're forty years old,
but that's really what that's an admittance of.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
You know, I'm one of the bigger Lebron apologiests and
as just telling you that, you know, Lebron wants his
cake and wants to eat it too. You know. You know,
it's tough because he's on the court and the alpha
in him wants to say, give me the ball, let
me take over. I'm going to get the best shot
we can get. And then he gets to a point
where he can say, well, hey, I need help, you know, And.

Speaker 7 (23:45):
That's kind of and the frustrations with Lebron at this
at the same time, you know, so I think again,
it's a unique situation, and you would think that with
Luka Doncics this was the ideal situation and JJ Redick.

Speaker 5 (23:59):
As a coach and all things going on over there.
And we can't deny the power of the influence that
Lebron has with the Lakers at the end of the day.
But you know, you got to say, is this necessarily
a power play? What's this look like if ownership is
going to step in, are they going to be as
inviting to Bronnie James' development? You know, where's their mindset?
And as much as you like to say, it's not
a part of it. Lebron is a whole, mega entity

(24:21):
in itself, and that is a part. And as good
as he is, You're right, Doug, he is asking for help.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Yeah, it's really interesting. There's talk of the Mavericks using
Cooper Flag as a point guard as they wait for
Kyrie Irving to return. But when Kyrie does come back,
and again he's thirty three, he'll be thirty four in March.
He's had a lot of operations. What do you think

(24:48):
of the makeup of the Mavericks more on paper obviously,
because we got to see it play out in person.
We got to see what Kyrie's like coming off another big,
big injury. What's your thoughts of the of the Mavericks
on paper?

Speaker 5 (25:00):
Man, I had said this, and I've even contacted you know,
some of Dallas has said. Actually played them the first
game where Anthony Davis got hurt, and for half a basketball, Doug,
they were stifling, like we could barely get the ball
and our group could barely get the ball across half court.
And we had held our own pound for pound with

(25:21):
the league. But when Anthony Davis is playing at a
high level. It was, It's impressive, and there's some things
being built over there in Dallas. I think the big
challenge with the Luca trade, you know, and we've talked
about it to exhaustion, is that you just didn't get
a pick back for it. But you know, if Anthony Davis,
and this is a big if, if he's healthy, they're
pound for pound with with anybody over there, and I

(25:44):
think they're doing things the right way as expected. With
Cooper Flag and his unique skill set, They're going to
exhaust his development and that means putting him in very
unique situations. Now Ultimately, is he going to be a
primary ball handler? I don't know what that's best for
Cooper Flag. I think he's best off the ball as
a slasher and putter and energy guy and spacer and

(26:04):
that's why you like his skill set. But they're going
to exhaust seeing what he can become and what they
can build around with him over there. But I tell
you defensively, Man, that they can get after you, dude.
They cover ground and that's built around Anthony Davis.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Awesome stuff, Ryan Man, Thank you so much for joining us.
You're the best appreciate you being our guest. It's a
wild time, as you point out in the NBA, and
we appreciate you to helping us find our center.

Speaker 5 (26:31):
Oh anytime, Doug.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
All right, Doug gottlib Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,

Speaker 1 (26:58):
For a forty years, Tyree has been helping customers find
the right tires, power what where they drive, shit passed
pre back by pre browd has protection with over h
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tiracteck. I'm
the way tire buying should be. We'll get to the
press upcoming, but before hey listen, we all want to
get stuff off our chest. Say my bad, but only

(27:20):
one of us has fire's remorse.

Speaker 6 (27:25):
Some have remorse.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
I engagement, but.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
There's nothing quite like fire's remorse.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
Anyway, yeahug, another year has gone by where I will
not be at the All England Club checking out some
action of Wimbledon. Been fortunate enough in my broadcasting career
to see a lot of cool events, But the one
event that I want to see the most that I
haven't seen is Wimbledon. I don't need to see a

(27:59):
woman and final. I don't need to see a round
of sixteen Monday. I just want to go there at
the All England Club, maybe see a match at Center
Court so I can see the Royal Box. But Wimbledon
has begun again. I will not be in attendance for
the event at the All England Club in twenty twenty five.

(28:22):
Another year gone by. Not check that box off of
my bucket list.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
Quite peace, Quite peace. Thank you.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
Think it's something we can all relate to in a
sporting event that you would like to see and like
to go to.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
It's the one thing. It's a one sporting event I
did go to overseas. I've never been overseas until my
employer sent me there to cover Wimbledon. I was there
for three or four days. On the fourth day I
played hooky and it was it had been sunny for
three days, and the London that I had always grown

(28:57):
up knowing was foggy, rainy and dreary.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
And how do you know it if you've never been there, because.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
I'd read about it, right, Okay, It's been written about
a lot a lot of movies.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
And and the fog it's actually a drake.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
It's been the subject of many of my favorite band songs.
How many times have I have I heard morris You
talk about depressing rainy days in London, and I've always
said I want to do that. So on a fourth
day it was rainy and foggy, and I just went
outside and listened to the Smiths and walked around London.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
What was What was Wimbledon? Like? I mean you getta
like kind of burying the lead?

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Yeah, Wimbledon was Okay, it wasn't great, But.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
The rain and the depression and the fog.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Were you in a better mood after sulking and listening
to the Smiths and Morrissey?

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Much better mood?

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (29:49):
That's my that's my jam.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Hey.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
Whenever, whenever, whenever I would drive into Indiana and cross
the state line, you know, just out of Chicago, drive in,
would always put on John Mellencamp, Cougar Mellencamp, throw on
some pink houses, rain on the Scarecrow, all of the
great hits. Because you're in Indiana, what is.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
What is the music which signifies Wisconsin. Don't do roll
out the barrel, don't do roll out the barrel. Don't
do that.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
Maybe the boat band that opened for that comedian that.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
One time, that is Buyers.

Speaker 4 (30:37):
I was hoping to get a little more juice out
of it. Sam, Is there a there an event that
you would like to go to anywhere in the world. Yeah,
anywhere in the world, Doug Nore, you get the you
get the Capper, save the best for last.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 8 (30:55):
Maybe maybe a road Iowa football game at Penn State. Like, no,
I've never been to Beaver Stadium. Sure go there, absolutely.
I've never been to the Horseshoe. Yeah, never been to
the Horseshoe. Never been in the Big House.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
It's not like a race like you don't want to
go to like Indy five hundred or.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
You can't talk him into it. He doesn't have anything
in his money, you know.

Speaker 9 (31:19):
You know what, though, I do see this and they
do this around the country. Now, those red Bull like
soapbox derbys, or like the the Red Bull sponsored soapbox races,
or they they make those just make contraptions and they
try to fly him off of like a platform over
the water. Those look like absolute fun to be at

(31:39):
the General. Did you guys see the generally jump over
the mountain? It's like every every afternoon of my childhood
right there.

Speaker 4 (31:46):
I also think that Sam would probably like the cheese
rolling down the hill. Oh yeah, that happened recently. Yeah,
I catch major air.

Speaker 9 (31:56):
I once saw a picture of someone participating that and
they're wearing a University of Northern Iowa shirt, which I
thought was interesting. Maybe they came over from the US.
I don't know, Doug, You've been a lot of places.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
What would uh what would you like to to go
to that you haven't been?

Speaker 1 (32:10):
There's honestly, I've been to a lot. As you pointed out,
I'd really like to go to a big time soccer match,
you know, not that I don't want to go to
the World Cup, right. I feel like the World Cup
is I don't know, it just it feels like it's
more of a TV event than in person event. Premier League.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
Maybe in Spain, Manchester Darby sure Man City against Man
United Man.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yeah, yeah, why not. I think I'd like to do that.
I'd like to do Wimbledon.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
That'd be cool, by the way.

Speaker 4 (32:46):
My second runner up, because I've never been to a
tennis event, is the Australian.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Open more than the US Open. You don't want to
go to.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
I would love to go to the US Open as well,
but it's just I think that that's more feasible.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
The Australia one feels like it's so.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
Hot, yes, and it's a feels it's around our birthdays, Doug.
It's NFL playoff time, So it's really just I don't
think it's going to happen.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Yeah, so you.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Want to say it because like, yeah, I always want
to do it, like it's not gonna happen. Like I know,
I'm sure exacting out there. Keep me getting out of
bed every day.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
Like I can figure out a way to maybe make
the US Open work for a night, you know here
coming up at the end of August or at least September,
But Australian Open takes planning.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
And out of the box event. Put on your snowshoes,
go up to Alaska and watch the I did Rod, I.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Did Rud, did Rud? I did Rod? Does feel a
little bit like a golf tournament, though, where it's like,
am I going to pick one spot? Am I going
to follow one guy? If I just finish at the end,
if I'm just there at the end, does it matter?
Like there are I don't really get the journey. I
feel like the only way to do the idit Rod
is if you're actually on one of those sleds. And
I have no desire to be on with the sleds.

(33:54):
Love dogs, love dogs, love dogs.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
All right.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
The spier's remorse, Hey, did you guys hear what Sophie
Cunningham said about the expansion things? And of course it's
going to be blown completely out of proportion, but what
she said was and again I do think a portion
of it she was wrong. When she's like, well, did
you talk to the actual players where they want to play?
And like my argument would like, yeah, it doesn't actually

(34:21):
work that way, and she's like Miami. Everybody likes Miami.
I will point out Sophie, Miami in the summer is
kind of miserable. But she said Kansas City, she said Nashville,
And this is where I think This is where I
think you can be super creative, you know, super creative.
They both have big time arenas, right, and both those

(34:42):
arenas are downtown, and neither of them have NBA teams,
and so it's a little bit different. And I think
her point is like, we've done the Detroit thing, We've
done the Cleveland thing. Why are we doing that again?
And by the way, in the NBA, right, they went
back to New Orleans. It still hasn't really worked. They
went they were in New Orleans before with the Jazz.

(35:05):
They went back to Charlotte with the Hornets, still not
really working. They haven't gone back to Kansas City, Kansas City,
Topeka Royals. Right, Why is the WNBA going back to
those cities?

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Yeah, I don't know either. It's it doesn't make a
lot of sense. And I understand, like Tulsa didn't work out,
so maybe they're not going to go back to Tulsa.
But the Nashville one, to me is there's not going
to be an NBA team in Nashville, like with the
Memphis Grizzlies there, it's just it's not gonna happen. So
it's available to you and in a market that is
just continuingly, Yeah, thriving that would work out. I thought Austin,

(35:38):
Texas was another possibility, like there'd be another spot to
go where a population is booming and to try to
try to get your you know, foot in the door first.
She also I'm sorry, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
No, go ahead, no.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
She also mixed up Cleveland and Cincinnati. She said, I
don't like, I don't know how many people want to
go to Detroit or Cincinnati, So Cincinnati caught us.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
It's like whoa, whoa, whoa. Yeah, but here's the whole thing.
Like Sophie, she's kind of the hottest thing going in
female sports right now. Right, She's like the pin up girl.
And it's like, ah, that's Sopha cutting him. It's okay,
she gets away with it. Somebody else wouldn't get away
with it, but shug it over with it. Yeah, Cincinnati

(36:20):
catching astray. That was weird, or Cincinnati wouldn't be a
terrible idea, right. Cleveland feels like a bad idea. Cincinnati
I don't feel like a terrible idea, although they don't
really have a nice new arena that area next to
the stadiums.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
Are And she also did I think points something you said,
dug out and saying like, you know, is it too
much too soon? You know, like now, all of a sudden,
we're to eighteen teams in this in four more years.
You know, how is is that good for the league?

Speaker 1 (36:48):
It's not. It's just Jay Stew's pointed this out. It's like,
don't go away from home sites with the NCAA tournament
just because you might be able to sell a couple
more tickets. Right now it looks terrible. Don't get back
to looking terrible. You can download the pod podcast wheref
