great hour for you. We got Jared Smith. He's our

(00:39):
Fox Sports Radio betting analyst. We'll get you ready for
this weekend, focusing mostly on college, a little bit on
pro Big Lions Packers game over there at Lambeau there
where the Lions come in. Well, we have no idea
about who's gonna play quarterback for the pack This is
Jordan Love, This Milik Willis. We'll we'll try and maybe
get some insight from what the folks in Vegas think

(01:00):
plus Penn State, Ohio State. I know Dan Byer, huge
Ohio State fan, big road game. Plus you know Ohio
State fans, they think that they got a coach who's
Brian Day, who's really good, does have a colored beard
and can't win the big game. So we got that
to get to. We also had the Gambler picks. That's
where the four of us collectively have one pick to

(01:21):
if you're in desperate dire need of a pick that
we think is a guaranteed winner, we give it to you.
And oh yeah, by the way, last week, I think
we were four and oh, guys go back and research that.
So we'll tell you a little bit about this is
a little bit about last night's Jets win. Also, I
got some thoughts heading into the weekend. Next Monday, we're
gonna broadcast live from Eskimo Joe's the Jumping Juke Joint,

(01:41):
right on Elm Street, about a five minute walk from
Gallagher I Arena. Well, I'll get a chance to coach
my first college game against my alma manter Oakham State,
on the floor that got you to play on same
white maple that Eddie Sutton played and coached on at
at Oaklham's, So that's gonna be a lot of fun.
Speaking of Monday, guy who I don't know, I'll be

(02:05):
at the at Eskimo Joe's. I know he'll be at
the game. Matt Holliday joins us, I want to talk
a little baseball. I want to put a little bow
on it because we got the Dodgers first at World
Series Parade was earlier today. Now it's a celebration at
the Ravine taking place as we speak. Matt's, of course
a World Series champion, a former seven time All Star,
fourth time Silver Slugger. He played fifteen years in the BIGS,

(02:26):
did play for the Yanks and Yankee Stadium. He lost
in the playoffs to the Houston Astros, and Matt I
wanted to get into the fifth inning, right in fifth
inning Game five of the Yankees. Thanks much for joining us.
How much of it was, like, look, that's kind of
who the Yankees are, And how much of it was
it's just the pressure of the moment.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Well, I think the guys that made mistakes aren't necessarily
known for their defense, but I mean, Aaron Judge catches
that ball one hundred and ninety nine times out of
two hundred. The weird ground ball to first. I mean,
I think Garrett Cole gets over on that ball, but

(03:09):
I also think a healthy, you know, maybe a more
in his prime, maybe Anthony Rizzo gets over, gets that
ball and is able to get to the base. You know,
the play at shortstop. I mean, you know, he probably
overdid it trying to get that out at third right there.

(03:30):
Jazzism's not like he hasn't played third his whole career,
so you know, it was a tough catch, but that's
not really a position that he's played, so he's playing
out a position. Aaron Judge is more of a corner outfielder.
So look, I think it's a combination of probably a
little bit of both trying a little too hard and

(03:51):
you know, a situation where you have defenders that aren't
necessarily high level defenders at their position at this time.
So I I think, you know, it's one of those
things where you know, I think if they played that
Enning over, I don't think it would happen the same way.
But it was like a perfect storm of errors.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
It was. Well, maybe what's more impressive, I think partially
from their perspective, but also from the Dodgers, they retook
the lead. It wasn't like it was five nothing. Then
it was five to five, and then the Dodgers won
ten to five. They go up six five, and then
the Dodgers fought back again. I thought that was maybe
the most unlikely part about it was that the Yankees,

(04:34):
though obviously you know Garrett Cole. I watched him when
they took the ball from him. When Aaron Boone took
the ball from you could see just his deflation, especially
with the play at first base, even though it was
like an inning and a half later. But I guess
the part of it is the game wasn't over then,
it maybe just kind of restarted.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Then.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yeah, I would say that John Smoltz pointed out that
Garrett Cole rallying, rallying back for another inning of two
thirds after an inning like that, I thought was impressive.
I thought for for him to come back out and
then and then hold the hold the line at five
to five, they get back up six to five, and
and the momentum shifts back to the Yankees, you know,

(05:15):
and they're feeling pretty good about themselves, and and you know,
but then I think that's where you saw the fatigue
of the Yankees bullpen sort of kick in, and and
the lack of I guess high quality depth. I would
say at the Yankees back into their bullpen. I mean,
you know, Luke Weaver was pitching on his third day,
and and and the one you know lighter was even

(05:36):
on the roster to start the playoffs, and so I
I think that that showed a little bit of of
the underbelly of of uh maybe you know where they where.
They quite weren't up to snuff with the Dodgers as
far as the bullpen goes. So uh, yeah, I was
impressed that they didn't sort of fuld up shop and

(05:57):
and uh and and able to get the lead back.
But you know, I just think the better team ultimately
ended up winning.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
What what about this Dodger team impressed you as a
guy who's won a World Series before?

Speaker 2 (06:10):
You know, I think their lack of well, their lack
of starting you know, pitching depth. You know that was
so depleted by injury, and you know, for them to
be able to piece it together basically with with a
lot of bullpen guys, and Walker Beeler had not pitched
well this year, and Jack Clarity's been a little bit
of a journeyman lately and has been up and down,

(06:31):
and was up and down in the playoffs. For them
to be able to win a World Series without a
I would say even really a number one or a
number two type of pitcher in reality, I think it
is pretty odd. And so the idea that they were
able to piece it together on the mound and their

(06:52):
superstars showed up in big moments, and and that's where
it goes back to their their they're guys that they
pay a lot money to produce. And then you have
guys like kek Hernandez that play welly well in the
playoffs and Tommy Edmond, and you're always going to take
unsung heroes to come through and play big roles in

(07:13):
in order World Series championship. But I was impressed that
they were able to do that without a real dominant
age pitcher.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Do you think, well, what are your thoughts in the
twenty twenty the COVID World Series? What are your thoughts
on the people who have kind of invalidated that because
sixty game season, no true road games, and obviously a
vastly different season and playoffs from what we've seen before

(07:42):
and since.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Yeah, I mean, I think there's definitely an asterisk next
to that one, just because it was so odd. Now,
they were the best team that year and so they
won it, and they were better than everybody else. So
I think that that is obviously necessary of recognition and reward.
But I do think that it was obviously, like you said,
a strange, I mean, incredibly like something we've never seen

(08:06):
before in this world. And so it does make for
you know, kind of a okay, they wanted to twenty twenty,
but you know, this is what happened that we only
played this many games and the World Series was in Texas,
and you know, it was it was such a strange season.
I don't think that that takes away the fact that
they were the best team that year, and that's really
hard to do in the major leagues, no matter how

(08:28):
many games you're playing. But I do think this this
sort of you know, puts them you know, and where
you say, yeah, this was you know, the you know,
sort of the normal championship or however you want to
say it. But I don't want to take anything away
from that year. But there was you know a lot
of factors. It wasn't one hundred and sixty two games,
and it wasn't played in a traditional playoff situation, and

(08:51):
there were no fans, and there was no road games,
and you know, or you know, sort of no road fans,
and the playoffs were strange. So I do think that
that's at least worth achnology. But yeah, I think that
you know that the idea that this puts, you know,
sort of that talk to Bed, I think is probably right.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Yeah, I don't know. I look at it, d Option,
I like, I agree with you whole hardly on twenty twenty.
I just don't see any correlation to in twenty twenty,
twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
You know, a lot of the players are different. I mean,
I agree with that, but I mean I think that
you know, it's it's yeah, I mean, teams, it doesn't
even carry over year to year, you know. I mean
I think that you know, the doctors have to restart
next year. I mean, they're're a whole they're going to
have you know, it's a whole new year. Every year
is is a whole new team chemistry, it's a whole
new you know. It's just every every year it's so different.

(09:43):
So I don't really think that they either either are
connected either. But as far as like franchise championships and
whether we're counting twenty twenty or not, is like towards
the organizational like prowess, I think you know, at least
it's worth acknowledge that it was a strange season.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Jace, do you.

Speaker 5 (10:03):
Want to get on this, Yeah, let me add just
one thing. Everything Matt has said, I almost agree with verbatim.
This is where the context of the twenty twenty four
championship I think makes sense to at least Dodger fans.
Andrew Friedman's been here what ten years, and each year
that went by without him winning like a legitimate championship,

(10:26):
it kind of made his accomplishments kind of hollow. Man.
He built his team, and he built up the farm system,
and he brought in all these names, but they just
weren't finishing the deal. So that twenty twenty championship was
such an iceore. So now that he's won like a
legitimate one and this team came through for the finally,
I think this just kind of validates that twenty twenty

(10:47):
one a little bit more, as opposed to it just
being the one championship the Dodgers won this in this era,
that would have been a bad look. Does that make sense?

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Yeah, I mean I agree with that. I think that. Look,
I think it's hard one. I mean, they obviously have
a payroll withere it can they can spend, and he's
he's he's being able to go out and get amazing freegence.
But they've done an incredible job of drafting at the
bottom of the first round and developing pitching depths and

(11:16):
impact pitchers. You know, like I said earlier, the injuries
that you can't really predict as a GM. You know,
you try to set up as much much depth as
you possibly can and then you know, knowing that there's
going to be injuries. But I mean, he's done an
incredible job, and I get it, like you know, as
a fan base, you say, well, where's the championships and

(11:37):
now you've got this one and you've got twenty twenty
and so or twenty twenty one whatever year that was.
But yeah, I mean, I look, I'm not a huge
like Dodgers fan like you are, so you know, I
don't necessarily look at it through the same leins as
far as that goes. But yeah, I mean I agree
that that this sort of says, okay, Yeah, Now under

(11:57):
his tenure, they have two championships, and you could say
whatever you want about the one that was a short season,
but now you know they have two and and that
sort of solidifies, you know, what a great job he's done,
and certainly, you know, puts him up there with you know,
the best gems in baseball.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
Matt Holliday is our guest and the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Seven time All Star, four time Silver Slugger. You're you're
a Bors client or you've been a Borers client when
you played. Juan Soto's a Bors' client. They famously turned
down reported four hundred million dollars with the Nationals. Then
he goes to Padres, then the Yankees, and now we're fine,
Now it's finally here. What do you think that what's

(12:38):
this offseason like? You've been not necessarily in this position,
but you've been in a position to negotiate before, right
with Scott by your side. What does this off season
look like for him?

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Well, you know, the thing with MLB is is and
it helps in the fact that they went all the
way to the end and he was able to make
it to the World Series. Reason so it makes the
off season feel a little shorter. But the weird thing
about you know, you know, MLB compared to the other
sports is those contracts. A lot of the free agent
deals are done almost the day that free agency hits,
and there's no real kind of waiting around, and there's

(13:14):
no holiday breaks. And so the weird thing about MLB
free agency is is that you have these sort of
periods where they're active, and you have the GM meetings,
and then you have the Winter meetings, and then you
have people take a break for Christmas and the new year,
people take a break for Thanksgiving. And so as a player,
you know, you've worked really hard to get to free agency.

(13:37):
In his case, he's turned down a lot of money
and here we are and he's twenty six years old
as a free agent, and there's going to be a
lot of teams in interest. But it's also an election year,
so it's it's one of those things where it doesn't
go as fast as you hope. I mean, I think,
at least for me, I was hoping that, you know,
sort of the first week of free agency you'd get

(13:58):
a bunch of calls and then the you know, the
offers would come in shortly after, and then you get
to make a decision and enjoy Christmas and know where
you're going to be for the next good bit of
time in his case is probably more than ten years,
and you get to celebrate with your family over the holidays.
But it can drag on, particularly in a guy like
Juan's case, where you know Scott will want as many

(14:21):
teams to get involved as as possible, and you want, uh,
you know, he's going to have the Yankees, and I
think the big markets are going to be pushing, which
is going to help push the price, so it'll be interesting.
I mean, I don't know what their plan is as
far as visiting cities and whether he's going to take
recruiting type trips, which you know can be interesting. So

(14:45):
it's uh, like I said, you want it to go fast,
it doesn't go fast, you know, unless somebody just kind
of jumps up there and off makes an offer that
you absolutely can't refuse and tries to get it done
before anybody else gets in. But that typically doesn't happen.
So uh, my guess is it'll drag on into January

(15:06):
and that he'll sign probably in the first week of
January to a record setting deal, and uh, I think
it'll probably come down the two or three of the
big market teams that can afford it pretty easily. And
uh I that's kind of how I see it going.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
It's Doug Otlieb Show here on Fox Sports Trader, that's
the voice of Matt Holliday's joining us here as we're
kind of recapping the major league season, getting ready to
uh getting ready for for free agency. What's your take
on the Padres? You know, they this year. I mean
they by the end of the year, they had a
hell of a club, but it's a club that plays

(15:46):
and and you and I have discussed it. I've discussed
it on air as well. It's it's like there's a
certain amount of showmanship, right, almost that Latin flair to
how they play. And they were definitely running it, you know,
talking trash to the Dodgers and ultimately fall to the
Dodgers three games to two. But it's such an all
in mentality and then to come up short and they

(16:08):
continued to deplete any chance of rebuilding in the future.
What what's your thoughts on on the Padres?

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Well, I think it's going to be interesting. Obviously, ownership
the situation sadly is has changed with with with mister
Siler passing away. So you know, they had sort of
been all in in the recent you know, four or
five years and pre agency, you know, you heard about
the idea that Aaron Judge. They made a huge offered
to Aaron Judge, and they've been They've been very active

(16:35):
in pree agency and then sort of you know, like
even with the Wan Soto trade and then kind of
reverse course and traded him and got some really good
pieces for him, and and they've done a nice job
of building their roster backup and they deplete their their
assets in the minor leagues and big trade. Now they've
they've kind of kind of built back up some young

(16:56):
some really good young players. I think profar as of agent,
I'm not one hundred percent sure all of their free agents,
but I think most of the core of their team
is back, which you know, is a really good core.
And like you said, by the end of the season,
I think they were probably everybody's prediction to win the
World Series going in into the playoffs, just because of

(17:17):
the roster they've built and they're starting pitching depths and
some of the things that you know, kind of really
got them in a good shape against the Dodgers, but
they ultimately came back and won the series. And so
I think they're in a good spot. I mean, I
think that they've established that you know, they've the fan
base has created you know, I think they're drawing so
well and creating so much revenue that they've kind of

(17:38):
turned themselves into a large market spending type of team
as opposed in the past, where they've kind of operated
a little bit lower, uh than than the Dodgers and
the and the Yankees and and you know, some of
the big boys. Now they seem like they're right in
there with them as far as what they're willing to spend,
at least under mister Sidler. So I think their team

(18:00):
is interesting. I think look, you said there's a fine
line between playing with that confidence slash cockinginess slash you know,
trash talking. I think that that's you know that that's
their style. But you know, you also have to be
able to take it. If you're going to give it,
you got to take it. And that's really you know,
if you're going to play like that, you kind of

(18:21):
wake a sleeping dog. Right, So if you're going to
do that stuff. The other team gets all jazzed up,
and now all of a sudden, they're they're emotionally very
much into it because they see, you know, what's going on.
So I'm good with it because I think that kind
of fits a lot of their guys' personality. But I
think Jackson Merrill is a superstar. So there's a young
guy that they can, you know, build around. That's it's

(18:44):
really good and worth mentioning. And so I still like
their team a lot, So I think they're going to
be right in the middle of the National League again
this year.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Matt, you're the best man. Really appreciate you joining us.
Look forward to seeing you Monday as we come into
your hometown and do the radio show and go coaching game.
Thanks so much for me our guest. I'm Fox Sports Radio.

It's a dog Gottlieb Show. It's Fox Sports Radio. Jared
Smith joins us. Let's let's talk some betting chow. He's
our Fox Sports Radio betting analyst. He's co host of
Fox Sports Tradiers. Countdown to kick Off with Rich Toorn
Burger Brian No airs each Saturday between nine am and
New Eastern Time. Listen live or Fox Sports Radio Phillip
or the iHeartRadio app presented by Bett mg M. Jared,

(19:42):
we got a lot of things, kind of a good
a good amount of games this weekend to discuss. I
do want to start, I truly want to start with
the Ohio State Penn State game and get your early lean.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Yeah. So we've seen this number come down today. Actually
it was Ohio State catching or laying four and a
half points earlier in the week. And then we got
some good news on Drew Aller. I heard on Monday
MCL's sprain probably gonna start, but not one hundred percent.
And once that news started to kind of sift through
the market come Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, you started to see

(20:18):
this number come down. And now we're sitting at Ohio
State minus three and I'm I'm just trying to wrap
my head around this. Three weeks ago, Ohio State was
minus three and a half at Oregon with a healthy
Dylan Gabriel. Now Ohio State's minus three at Penn State,
and just close your eyes. The Oregon's better than Penn State.
Like and I'm at Penn State of Law. I'm telling
you this. Oregon is probably about three four points better

(20:40):
than Penn State on a neutral this week. So the
fact that you're getting a better number on the key
number of three to bet Ohio State this week, it
pains me. It kills me. But you gotta go with
the Buckeyes here and then you start going into the matchups.
I think the big injury concern outside of Drew Ouler
obviously starting quarterback, is Dennis Sutton, who's the number two

(21:01):
rush end for Penn State. They've got two really good
bookend edge guys. They've got Abdul Carter, who's changing positions
this year. He was a linebacker two point stance. Now
he's got his hand in the dirt on the edge.
He's struggled with that adjustment a little bit just for sacks.
But Dennis Sutton, who's a very capable edge rusher on
the other side, didn't practice this week. He's been banged up,
probably not gonna play well. What that does is it

(21:23):
allows Ohio State, which, by the way, their weakness on offense,
they don't have many. It's the offensive line. The tackle
position has been a turnstile this year. They've been moving
guys around. They struggled last week against Nebraska, couldn't run
it well. Now, if Carter plays but Sutton doesn't, you
can double team Carter and you can really remove the
offensive line from being a factor in the game. We

(21:44):
know how good Ohio State skill position guys are Williams
like Buka Tate. I mean, you know, Penn Sate doesn't
have one receiver that can contend with the three guys
Ohio State as they've got two studs in the backfield
Judkins and Henderson. So Chip Kelly schemes some things up.
Get the ball out of Will Howard tan quickly. I
don't love Will Howard as a quarter back on the
road in a big game, but I think the matchups
here favor Ohio State, and the number like Oregon's better

(22:06):
than Penn State, and you get to get discount on
him this week. So it kills me. But you've got
to take the Buckeyes in this spot.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Stut Gottlieb Show Here on Fox Sports Radio. Jared Smith
is our Fox Sports Trading betting analyst. Of course, you
can hear him on Countdown to Kickoff, which is presented
by bet MGM the Cocktail Party. Florida is four and
three on the year. They're a fifteen point dog against Georgia.
The total is fifty two.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Yeah, both teams off the by so you know, expect
some weirdness, especially for Florida. Right billion Napier's coaching first job.
I would expect all of the tricks to be pulled
out of the bag for this one. Now, they do
have some buzz. They're off a game where they drop
forty eight on Kentucky, and you know, Kentucky's a pretty
good defense, but you are asking DJ Lagway, true freshman
quarterback in front of a very shaky offensive line to

(22:53):
basically pull off a miracle here. They allowed a twenty
six percent pressure rate against Kentucky. That is not going
to cut it against this Georgia team. We saw the
last time Georgia played against that Texas old line. Kirby said,
we want to hunt. I don't know if they're going
to be as aggressive here right like the weakness for
Texas it was some cracks in the old line. Maybe
you weres not one hundred percent you can get him

(23:14):
off his spot. They were able to do that. If
you get Lagway off his spot. He's good at creating
plays outside of the pocket, unlike Quinn you were, so
I think that's where Kirby's got to be careful here.
You don't want to run yourself out of the lanes
that you're trying to establish on the defensive side of
the ball. I do think Florida's gonna, you know, again,
pull some tricks up their sleeve here and that could

(23:35):
keep this game close with a big number. But you
look at the other side, I am fascinated to see
how George's offense handles. I don't want to call it
a big spot, but Carson Beck's had some moments this
year where he hasn't shown you that that steady hand.
The one thing I've heard positive about Carson Beck over
his career is he'll give you the same you know,
demeanor when he's winning them when he's losing, He's kind

(23:56):
of even keeled this year. I have seen that at times,
but eight picks and he's you know, outside the top
fifteen in QBR, so not having that elite season. We
do know that ETNZA stuff. This is a revenge game
against his former team. I think the running game will
be big, but you just look at the rest of
the offense, like Oscar Delps not brock Bowers. They don't
have a true outfit wide receiver. Mike Bobo is not

(24:16):
Todd Mounkin like. I just see a lot of downgrades
for Georgia's offense where Florida's defense. On the surface, I
think the the yards per play numbers look okay, but
if you remove some of the you know, easier data
points on their schedule, it just it hasn't been pretty. UCF, Tennessee,
Kentucky not elite offenses. They all had success against Florida.
When they stepped up in class against Miami, got thrown

(24:38):
all over. When they stepped up in class against A
and M Good in the trenches, they got run all over.
Even Mississippi State ran it on this Florida defense. I
do think if Carson Beck is dialed in from the jump,
Georgia names their score in this game. But Lagway is
gonna have a couple of plays. I think it probably
stays close. I wouldn't want to lay it with the dogs.
I probably just leave this one alone.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
Big win for Ole Miss. Can't lose it, right because
it's got Georgia coming up six and two in the year.
Seven and a half point favorites at Arkansas. The totals
fifty four and a half. This is an Arkansas team
who they you know, they lost to LSU, lost to
A and M. I don't know how they lost Oaklham State,
but kind of a flukey game which they actually outplayed
Oaklham State, but then put up fifty eight on Mississippi

(25:19):
State and beat Tennessee. What are your thoughts on this one?
The line again seven and a half point favorites Old
Miss on the road.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
Yeah, I think Arkansas at home, especially if getting that
seven in the hook, Like, I feel like that's where
I would bet this one from a spread standpoint. I
do like what I've seen from Tayling Green. He's definitely
improved since his Bois days. Andrew armstrongert receiver as a stud.
So they've got an outfit quarterback, they've got an outfit receiver.
Second leader in the SEC. They're a little banged up
at running back to Quinnin Jackson questionable the backup. He's

(25:47):
a four star kid brawl and Russell pulled his hammy
on an explosive run against Mississippi State, so they might
be down two guys in the backfield. I do like
Bobby Patrino. I know he's you know, much more line
from his past, but he's got a really solid offensive mind.
Ole miss and they're good at slowing down RPOs because
they see it in practice every day. Their linebackers this
week have talked to the media specifically, like I'm always
interested to hear what the talking points are with these players,

(26:10):
especially a team coach by Lan Kiff, and I'm sure
they're hammered. They're very well versed in dealing with the media.
They have talked a lot this week about I discipline,
and I think that's kind of where we're at with
Arkansas here Taylor Green. They love to run these RPOs
and if you let Green get outside the pocket. I
have a podcast I listen to that covers the SEC.
They call it hospital ball, Like you just it could
be a complete game wrecking type of play, or he

(26:31):
could just throw an interception, like Green can be very versatile,
but while also very volatile outside the pocket. We all
know ole Miss upfront is elite and the Arkansas offensive
line is the weakness. I think that's the matchup here.
If ole Miss can get that pressure, can keep Green
somewhat hemmed in. I do like ole missus front to
be able to at least battle here. I think on
offense for oh Miss, it's just been it's been a

(26:54):
really big struggle in conference play. You look at the discrepancy.
They went from fifty five points per game non conference
play down the twenty four points per game in the SEC.
Big struggles in the red zone. The issue all starts
up front. The offensive lineout is outside the top one
hundred and most of my blocking metrics, I actually like.
I think this Arkansas defense has a couple of dudes.
Landon Jackson he's the top fifty player on most big boards,

(27:16):
and Eric Gregory is great at getting pressure. The defensive coordinator,
Travis Williams, he's kind of a trickster. So I'll see
what he draws up here, and I'll be honest, I
do think getting that seven and a half right, that
extra hook on the key number of seven. I think
those seven and a halfs will be gone by Saturday
kick which is a newon Eastern, So I would play
the plus seven and a half now in Arkansas.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
The last one Pitt SMU trying to win the ACC
SMU at home hBN Highland Park is a seven point
favorite and the totals fifty seven.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Yeah, another fascinating game you talked about last week. SMU
minus six turnovers at Dukes still won the game and
Pitt created five turnovers, three of them were picked sixes
against Syracuse. Obviously they won the game, but me like
there's regression there. Like SMU is not going to turn
it over six times, Pitt is not going to generate
five turnovers in this game. So I think it's going

(28:08):
to be a much more tight, close to the vest
kind of game. And for Pitt, you've got some health
issues at quarterback. Eli Holstein got hurt in the second
half against Ques didn't return. That game was well in
hand so it didn't matter, but we'll see if he
can come back. And then you've also got some I
don't want to call it regression for Pitt's offense. It's
a really kooky offense. They brought in the ock Bell
from Western Carolina. He runs this kind of spread, you know,

(28:30):
crazy air raid type of attack, but now it's been
on tape for eight weeks. Their lead back also is
a little bit diminutive in stature. Desmond Reed has been
a star this year for Pitt but he's five eight,
one hundred and seventy five pounds. He's not a physically
imposing back. Now stepping up in class from the FCS
level to the FBS level eight nine, ten games in,
can he continue to produce at that level. SMU's defense

(28:52):
very underrated, top five across the board, especially against the run.
They have the second highest pressure rate in the country.
They can get after the quarterback. I think FORMU on offense.
It's kind of a weird in between spot this week
because the quarterback who's the starter, So they had two
quarterbacks Preston Stone. It was great in past years, kind
of struggled a little bit this year. They went to
Jennings a little more mobile. Well, now Jennings is banged up.

(29:14):
I don't know if that matters as much for this game.
Jennings not being the better thrower. It actually might suit
SMU to sit him here. Because Pitt's weakness is their
secondary outside the top fifty in pretty much every category.
So if let's say they start Jennings in this game,
game script turns negative and they're behind, I don't think
it's a bad spot. I think SMU can still come
back and win the game. So while I probably favor

(29:37):
SMU to win the game, I think seven points a
little bit heavy of a number for me to lay.
Here's how I would approach this. Watch the first half,
see who starts at quarterback for SMU. If the Mustangs
fall behind and they go to Preston Stone, run to
your betting app and bet SMU as a slight underdog
or a pick them if they're live. Sometimes the live
betting numbers are a little bit more favorable than betting

(29:57):
something before the game starts.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
Jared Smith gives you all the details. I mean to
have that little in game betting advice as well, not
just the pregame stuff. Jered do the best.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Man.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Can't wait to hear you tomorrow morning. Let's countdown to kickoff.
Start getting nine am Eastern Time only. You're on Fox
Sports Radio presented by Bett MGM. Jared, thanks so much,
good luck this weekend.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
Appreciate it, Doug, Go Phoenix.

Speaker 6 (30:16):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
It's Doug Gottleep Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Happy
Friday to you. Let's help the people out, shall we.
Let's get a little gambler in before they go on
to the Cavenion Ridge. You know how the gambler works.
One pick, just one pick to save people. They're good,

(30:47):
hard earned money that they normally throw out the window
when they don't get proper gambling advice. If you're gonna
go to the window, if you're gonna call your guy,
if you do wager your good hard earned money on something,
these are the you need. Let's start with the j
stew Team Parlay. Who you got, Jason?

Speaker 5 (31:05):
Thank you, Doug. I'll take it from here, Kelly. Do
I have a couple for the Jay Stu team Parley.
But you gotta rush to the bedding window. It's their
early window on a Friday. South Florida is at Florida Atlantic.
If you remember what is Florida Atlantic most famous for.

(31:27):
You come across that ocean, you're gonna you're gonna run
into this if you.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
Come across that ocean.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
Well, they're getting two and a half points at South Florida.
Take Florida Atlantic tonight and for the Jay stew team parlay,
you need to pair it with another team. Boise State
is giving twenty four and a half to San Diego State.
Just a quick message for San Diego State fans. Mark
McGuire's brother is not coming through that door. What's his name,

(31:56):
Dan d Dann McGuire. Dan McGuire is not coming through
that door tonight. For the Aztecs, pair of Boise State
with Florida Atlantic and thank me on Monday.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Larry Bird's not walking through that door. Not walking to
the door, Sammy.

Speaker 7 (32:13):
All right, I'm gonna try to get one right here.
I'm gonna take the Texas Tech game. IWA State Texas
Tech five and three at Iowa Stated, still defeated at
number eleven. I'm seeing here that the Cyclones are about
a thirteen and a half point favorite, but I'm a
little worried about their defense, especially their linebackers. Texas Tech
is a pretty good offense. I'm gonna take Texas Tech
plus the points i A Woays State. We'll not cover

(32:36):
that thirteen and a half. That's my game freaking the week.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
What's that Listen in the future, when you give you
or give you a pick of the week, you gotta
do more than look at the internet right before you
make that pick.

Speaker 7 (32:44):
Hey, I looked at it like an hour ago.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Just okay, Danny, what do you got.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
Oh, let's go to Jacksonville and the world's largest outdoor
cocktail party will be a party for one team but
not the other. The Georgia Bulldogs favored fourteen by fourteen
and a half over the Florida Gators. Bulldogs gonna win.
Georgia in fact, is going to cover with ease in
that game, as Georgia gets the win and one of
the better rivalries in college football.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Don't get me wrong. The Cincinnati Bengals were futured last week,
allowing twenty eight answered points, but the Raiders are one
of fourteen teams in the NFL history to trail by
double digits in each of their first game eight games
this season, right, I mean, the Raiders are awful. Bengals
have to have a win, have to win this game.
They will. It's seven. I don't love seven, but they'll
win their third out of four games. Bengals are gonna win.

(33:31):
Bengals is gonna cover. Give me the Bengals. That's my
pick of the week. Let's sing Toime enough one more time.

Speaker 9 (33:41):
You got, you got.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
No waitun.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
Show money.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Count all right, Dan Barr with the press, Let's go.

Speaker 8 (34:06):
Yes, like to say Mother Nature for allowing Oklahoma to
be basically drenched with water from the time that we
land in the Great State tomorrow until the time we
leave early Tuesday morning. It's gonna be a wet one.
I don't even know if we'll be able to take

(34:27):
in the football game. Jaystu could be thunderstorms.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
I got your seats in the club seating so you
can go, oh, all.

Speaker 8 (34:32):
Right, great, that actually would be awesome. All right, how
about some good news here. Clayton Kershaw a world champion
again for the Los Angeles Dodgers. His speech today at
the team's rally celebrating their twenty twenty four crown.

Speaker 9 (34:47):
I'm waiting to celebrate for a long time.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
I can't imagine being anywhere else.

Speaker 4 (34:55):
Right now, and I can't imagine doing it for the group.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Because this group right.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
Here, I'm lost.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
I have anything to do. In his championships. I'm a
bad feeling in the world.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
How about that?

Speaker 4 (35:23):
That was great?

Speaker 2 (35:24):
It was great.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
He hasn't been eating his feelings though recently.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
I just goosebumps Jay stew on that, I mean Jennson
whoever the sound engineer was on that. That was outstanding.
It was the perfect mixed minus. The crowd was amazing,
like there is not an empty seat at Dodger Stadium
for a victory parade. Kershaw's right, he had zero to
do with this entire thing. But that's how much this

(35:48):
city loves the Kershaw, how much he's done for this team,
and that that was an amazing audio.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
Here's the reality of it. All of those playoff appearances,
a good portion of them would they'd have no chance
of getting into the playoffs if not for Kershaw. Did
he have his failures in the playoffs? Yeah, but they
they they rode him, rode him, and he was he
was absolutely.

Speaker 8 (36:10):
I agree with you, and I'll say this, Jan Okay,
can you make it quick.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Fernando Allanswela's birthdays today. A lot of that crowd is
Mexican American, so everyone was there with a heavy heart today.
It's just an emotional event.

Speaker 8 (36:24):
Okay, so you got one player who's in love with
his city, and then you have Joel and bid in
the city of Philadelphia.

Speaker 9 (36:30):
Broken my fast twice. I came back early with the
risk of losing my vision, have broken fingers, I still
came back. So I'm not gonna see her and be like,
you know, just see people saying he doesn't want to play.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
I've been way too much.

Speaker 9 (36:44):
I've done way too much, you know, for this city,
putting myself out risk for people to be saying So
I do think I like that dude, he's not here,
Marcus whatever his name is. I've done way too much
for this city to be treated like this, So don't
wait way too But like I said, I wish all

(37:05):
I was lucky as other once. But that doesn't mean
that doing whatever he takes Supy out there, which I'm
gonna be here.

Speaker 8 (37:12):
Pretty soon, that'll go over a while in Philadelphia.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Sure, it's a very kind hearted fan base. Yes, uh,
I love it.

Speaker 8 (37:22):
When he ramped up and he said I've done too
much of the city, and then he said it again,
but he added the colorful language with it. Indeed, Hoping
to make his season debut tomorrow against the Memphis Grizzlies,
and Doug, that is the press bag.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
Get out there and pressed.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
That was the press all right, I'm bringing the boys
to Oklahoma. Will be broadcasting live from Eskimo Joe's Monday afternoon.
Please come and uh you can wear green to the game.
You know you are allowed to do.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
So.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Have a great, safe weekend. Obviously a couple of huge
college and NFL games as well, and Dan Byer be
in a good mood if Faha State wins. Is that right,
isn't it?

Speaker 9 (38:03):
I think so?

Speaker 3 (38:04):
