It's way tire buying should be. Oh what a day.
It's Championship Friday. This is fun. This is honestly the
next two days I think are the best days in
college basketball last yesterday and into the next two days,

(00:45):
cause you know, more teams play more competitive games. That
Oklahoma Kentucky game at the end last night was amazing. WHOA.
On the other hand, that's just a It's just a
hard one to take, right. Did you guys see the game?
Anybody monster? You see the game, Sammy, you see the game.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I saw that the end of the game of the
Kentucky Oklahoma game.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yes, I did watch it. I was here. It was crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Okay, So Kentucky was was up big late. They were
up like ten with like a minute to go. It
felt like was it yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Kind of felt like that yep.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah. And it was also kind of late into the night.
It's one of the things with these tournaments are so
bloated now. It's like and the obviously they're trying for
evening tip times. But they led by ten with a
minute twenty to go, m m, minute twenty to go,
and Oklahoma started pressing Kentucky, and Kentucky just started spitting
the ball up and otega Oway got the ball in

(01:46):
bounds after Oklahoma did in fact take a one point
lead and go length to the floor and score point
five seconds ago. But here's where it's maybe more interesting,
or maybe more of a sign of times in college basketball.
Do you know where otega Oway played college basketball last year?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Oklahoma?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yes? His brother. I think his brother plays for the
Ravens still and oh way, I love away. Uh. He
was playing kind of a small ball for for the
Sooners last year, plays more of a guard this year
for Kentucky. He's he's terrific. But that's just weird, right,
it's and I'll, you know, be honest with you. We

(02:26):
have we've had people approach us because and I'm it's
hard to get to get a gauge on why, right
do you really want to do you really like what
we're doing? Maybe you know our guys are our guys
like playing for us. You know we're getting all the
ones we want back. But uh, but we have guys

(02:49):
in our league reach out to us, and it's just
a weird thing, like, wait, you're gonna play against a
team that you played for all last year. And now,
in fairness, Oklahoma wasn't in the SEC last year. Mark
Pope was also not in the SEC. He was at
BYU in the Big twelve. So there's the Hey, we

(03:10):
saw you played last year. And once you get in
the portal, it doesn't matter. But I don't know of
all the parts of it that are a little are icky.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
It's a little incestuous.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
That's a little incestuous, Like wait, what so it's a
weird one. It was still a fun game and a
great finish, but weird. Let's start a football. Miles Garrett
is a star. I struggled with Miles Garrett because as
I think, I think we all we were all aware, right,

(03:47):
and he just he just signed back with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Mason rudolph Is he's now in Oklham, State of Alum.
He's a friend of mine. So Mason, who was a starter,
a backup, a starter, a backup in Pittsburgh and then
he he's kind of bounced around the league a little bit.
But remember when Mason was a quarterback of the Steelers,

(04:08):
when was the starting quarterback of the Steelers, he and
Miles Garrett got into it. I think it was a
Thursday night game and Miles Garrett said he dropped an
end bomb and that's not no one else said they
heard it. And I know Mason, like, that's not who
he is, Like come on. So I struggle with the
Miles Garrett thing to begin with. So I'll admit carrying

(04:31):
an anti Miles Garrett bias because of that. But I
think when you when you hear what he said and
you look at the reality of it, you'll probably come
to a similar, if not the same conclusion. Miles Garrett,
of course, a couple of weeks ago, said he wanted
to be traded from the Cleveland Browns. Then he said

(04:52):
he wanted to meet with the owner of the Cleveland Browns.
Now he re signed with the biggest and at the time,
samuelre on those shows, Ryan, you weren't Bonci. I don't
remember because it was a little bit in and out,
but I said, this has nothing to do with anything
other than he wants a contract extension. He's coming into
the last year of his deal, so he re signs

(05:15):
with the biggest contract in the history of the NFL.
To anyone who's not a quarterback, here's what he said
at the press conference today.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
I had some frustration, and no I feel like that
that helped us grow and have conversations that were difficult
but I need to be had. And that created a
little bit more discourse, helped build some relationships and reinfirm them.
And now I feel like we're in a better place
and now we can move on and grow from there.

(05:44):
I think the fans will see that. You know, my
heart's in the right place. It's never been about money.
It's always been about winning, and that's where my frustration lives.
And you know, I want to thank Nicole because you know,
she's the best age in the world, and I didn't
have any really input on how the how the deal
was gonna look, but not just no know that and
when the time came, and know we all know we're

(06:06):
on the same page. Know that she she went on
and don't do what she does and got the best
deal possible for myself and for the Browns.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, I mean, none of that has anything to do
with winning. Right, you had frustrations, sure, okay, but if
you're really frustrated, you really wanted to win. And there's
no doubt that we'll see some of the details. And
I'm guessing that by resetting a contract, they pushed some
of the numbers down the road. So hey, we freed
up some money for you guys, go spend to get

(06:35):
more money. But the reality of it is that don't
tell me you want all this money and then say, yeah,
it's all about winning and culture and what like that.
What's not. No, it's not no, it's not like they're there.
I no one will ever do this. But at some

(06:56):
point this is this is why Zach Greenkey. Do you
remember why Zach Greenkey signed I think in Arizona for
like two hundred million dollars, right, And zach Rinky was
the number one pick. He was Brewers and then I
can't remember if Arizona was next or if the Dodgers
were next. But he came out and said, if somebody

(07:17):
wants to give me two hundred million dollars, I'm gonna
sign the deal. That's what I want, right, he just
and that's what he did. That's what he did. Like,
don't tell us it's not about the money when it's
quite obviously about the money. You're better off. You're better
off saying, Hey, I like, I'm last year in my contract.

(07:40):
I played my guts out for the Browns. I think
we're ultimately going to win, but I'm not doing it
with one year left of my deal. You know, I'd
rather go somewhere else. In order to stay, I need
to get paid. This is what I think I'm worth.
You know, some people will will disagree or say, you know,

(08:01):
there could be somebody who says what I said, which
is a winning is really important than being the highest
paid guy isn't important. But at least you're honest. This
strikes me as willfully dishonest, willfully dishonest. Play that for
me again, real real quick, Sam, If you would.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
I had some frustration, and you know, I feel like
that that helped us grow and have conversations that were
difficult but I need to be had and that created
a little bit more discourse, helped build some relationships and
reinfirm them. And now I feel like we're in a
better place and now we can we can move on

(08:43):
and grow from there. I think the fans will see that.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, we had some relationship issues and now we're better.
What's the relationship issue? You want to get paid more money?
Now we're better? You know, this is the I want
a divorce? How about a diamond ring? I don't want
to do. I'm good. We had some relationship issues. They
were solved with a diamond ring, you know. Yeah, No,

(09:08):
you're gonna have to do some therapy and some graveling
and all the other stuff. I don't buy any of
that at all. Sorry, I just don't, and I do.
I think I'll give you an example. In our exit
meetings with players, I have talked to a couple of parents,

(09:28):
and one of the parents I spoke with was like, hey,
you know, there's a lot of things I liked about
about your coaching of my kid, but there was this
and there was that, and there was this, and we
talked for an hour and an hour and four minutes.
In the conversation, I said, hey, you know, we've talked
for an hour and four minutes. I looked at my phone,

(09:51):
and you talked about numbers and roll and things you
could have done and whatever. You know, there wasn't one
time that you said, if you would have done this
with my kid, we would have won more games? Right
if you Does that make sense? Sam? Does that make sense? Ryan? Right? Like?

(10:13):
Never what? There wasn't a word uttered about the only
thing that actually matters, actually matters, which is because what
was told to me. He was, Hey, if you would
have done this, my kid's numbers would have been better.
If you would have done this, my kid would have
been in a better position to make more money if

(10:35):
he leaves your school. You know, right, That's what was
and probably not wrong in terms of numbers. And I'm
like the rare head coach that I'll go like, hey,
I'm not perfect. There are times when I played him
too much. There's time, but I probably didn't play them enough.
I own that. But but in an hour and four minutes,

(10:55):
there wasn't a word uttered about the only part that
actually matters winning. And in all of Miles Garrett's talk
about you know, relationships or whatever, like, dude, what are

(11:16):
we doing if you really want to help us win? Say, hey,
I want to help us win. I want to secure
my future. I went and instructed my agent. Hey, I
don't need the most money. I don't. I don't need
forty million dollars a year. Would I take it? Sure?
But if I take twenty, we got to make sure
the rest of it is going towards you know, a quarterback,

(11:39):
towards the offensive line, towards other position players. Otherwise, just
be honest and go, look, man, this is probably my
last big contract. I don't really want to leave Cleveland.
I don't love the losing, but I can lose. I
can't lose and be playing and losing money. I'll lose,
but I'm going to be getting paid. That's the reality

(12:01):
of it. And they also probably should have traded him.
And if they couldn't find the right value, that tells
you what the league thinks of what his value actually is.

But did I tell you guys? I had a great idea, MANCI,

(13:26):
I wonder if you'l like this. So my daughter is
uh nominally obviously a talented equestrian and she's a She
rides on the team at Oaklhom State. She's currently in Gulfport, Mississippi,
riding your horse.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah she was honored, wasn't she? I saw on your
social she wasn't.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Honor So al at works is in an equestrian Okay,
you have in college, they have Western, they have English,
she's English. Now she's a jumper. They don't have jumping
in college. They have it's called equitation, and then they
have flats, but it's also equitation based, so which she

(14:05):
describes as you got to ride pretty, right, you have
to do there's jumping involved in in fences, but you
also have to ride pretty. So it's a different discipline
than the one that she actually won a national championship
going back two years ago on her own horse. So
she's learning as she goes. She was I don't even
say honored, but in terms of moving up in the

(14:28):
depth chart. And the crazy part about it is, you know,
like I'm a dad, but I'm also a coach. So
it's like and I don't bother her coaches like that's
not it's not my job. That's not my I just
the head coach, Larry Sanchez is a friend of mine.
He's been there forever, like he's personally built this program.
Every once in a while, send him a text. How's
my kid doing? We love her. That's about it. Anything

(14:49):
you need for me? Nope? Good. So I said, you know,
but you have twenty five girls English, twenty five girls Western,
fifty girls on a team, but only five are actually
in the starting lineup, right, It's only five really ride
for the team. And we were talking about their lineup
and what went right in their last meet, what went

(15:10):
wrong in the previous meet, whatever, And I just said, hey,
where do you stand? And she's like, wow, I don't
really know. You don't know. It's like, well, I'm I'm
lessening in a group that's not the starters, but just
beyond I think I'm doing well, but I okay, So
what do you got to do to move up? I
don't know. Well, did you ask? Well, no, it's not

(15:31):
how it works in writing, Dad, Like you don't ask.
They basically tell you. When you're practicing. It's like, yeah,
you can just sit down and say what do I
need to do to continue to It's I said, it's
all in the wording and how you word it. You know,
what can I do to help the team anyway? So yeah,
so then Wednesday today Friday, Yeah, so Wednesday, so she
literally called me, you know, like super excited Tuesday because

(15:54):
you do like a demo and you know there it's
basically you kind of do a one off where it
shows the competitors the horse, the course and how it
looks and even though they already know, and it gives
the judges a chance to show kind of where they
are judging scale wise. So it was like she competed,

(16:15):
only the score didn't count, and if she wants to
maintain a red shirt ear, she can, but yeah, it
signifies that she's doing well, that she's moving up in
their eyes. So it's cool anyway. So her favorite store
on Earth is is Tractor Supply. Like literally, I've told
trac Supply apep with this, so my voice is actually

(16:37):
in all the tractor supplies nationwide. I do these reads
for them. It's part of our partnership with iheart's really cool.
So I said, we should do like a TV commercial
where it's my voice and I'm doing some sort of
March badness read and then my daughter's in there and like,

(16:58):
you know, I mean, I can't give her a credit
card if I give her money. It's like I have
the only kid in the world that doesn't spend money
on clothes or doesn't she doesn't go to bars and
clubs and whatever piercings. Like it's literally like, why are
you a tractorsply today? What did you need? Dad? We
needed a bit, I needed this. I need these horse
treats I need Like, no, you didn't need all that,

(17:19):
So I thought I'd be like, you know, v og
is voice of God, like voice of God, where hey
come into tractor supplying, Harper, we don't need that. And
when you get Harper, you know what I mean. I
don't know. I thought that'd be fun.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
You don't need those those shiny spurs, Harper. I don't
even know if force riders wear spurs anymore.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
They do they can't wear spurs. Yeah, they wear spurs,
get them going.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
I've never been inside a tractor's supply, but you know,
I grew up with a farm and fleet near our
parents farm. And sure there's all I mean, there's like
not just it's it's stuff like for your house it's
like dog food.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Yeah, dog They have anything for Jean's boots.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
You know, all kinds of stuff. Yeah, so I if
I got to.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Get it, it's not tractor supply is like there's the
brain name is is you know, synonymous obviously with farm
supply stuff. But the reality is it could be like
just stuff you need. Yeah, if you live, if you
if you work, if you live in the country, if
you're doing stuff outside. Like, there's a million things in it.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Sometimes there's even like a toy aisle, like at farm
at Blaine's Farm and Fleet, there's like a toy isle,
which is great you know for kids. Yeah, ki kids.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Toys probably probably there.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
You know.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
There was like a little car, hard stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
A little plastic shovels and fun little things for kids.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Yeah, we win there every time I get every time
I've gotten when I got my puppy andever I get
my my, my, my animal supplies in there. It's just great.
And I thought the prices are good as well. Anyway,
months did you see this where Steph Curry hit his
four thousandth three last night?

Speaker 5 (18:46):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I was waiting for it. I
mean he had a he only ended with eleven points.
I think he took maybe three four shots beyond the
arc and he hit two of them. That's what he
needed and he got it. Was awesome.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Okay, So so uh, we did a little research today, right,
So four thousand and threes is a lot of threes.
No one else in the history of the NBA has
done that, right.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
I think he's in he like eight hundred change or
nine hundred above the second closest. That's what I saw
it last night.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
I think he is. He is. I mean, it's it's
it's ridiculous. Okay, But if you go and look and
who's the best and what when we say Steph Curry
is the greatest shooter ever, Like, is he a better
shooter than Kyle korver I don't know, or Craig Hodges,
like probably statistically whatever, but you can think of but
in terms of great players, because he's not just a

(19:41):
great shooter, he's a great player. Agreed, right, that that's
the We had this discussion about dunkers like Vince Carter
is not maybe the best dunker ever, but he's the
best dunker for a guy who is a great player
as well. So when you think of great shooters. Pick one.
I picked the Larry Bird. Right. Larry Bird won the
dunk contest famously. I mean the dunk contest, the three

(20:03):
point shooting contest without taking off his warm up jacket. Right.
Steph Curry has attempted nine and forty one threes. He's
made four thousand. It's a very good percentage. It's great.
You want to guess how many threes Larry Bird took
in his career took?

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Yeah, oh, man.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
I bet it's below the amount that Steph has made.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Okay, So I'll give you some Like, here's some Larry
Bird context. You know, he played thirteen years in the NBA.
One year he only played six games. One year only
played six games. But he also remember played on all
those NBA playoffs and finals and and you know, won
championships and was the MVP of the league. Okay. He
also he averaged a career twenty four points a game.

(20:56):
At his peak, he averaged thirty points a game. Okay,
In eighty seven eighty eight, he averaged thirty points a game.
He was a three times, three time consecutive MVP, averaging
twenty four, twenty eight, and twenty five. Now, he was
obviously a great rebounder, great passer as well. And so
I'm just again just for context, for context, do you

(21:17):
want to take a guess and Steph Curry in terms
of number of years, okay, in terms of number of
years played, Steph Curry is at where's this?

Speaker 4 (21:30):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (21:31):
I mean years he played? To do do do do
do do do do do? I'll find it one.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Second, he's yeah, Ryan said, I was, we both O
nine was his first in NBA season?

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Oh nine, O ten yes, yeah, so he's played more
years as well. Okay, but he also had a year
one he only played five games, so he's played uh
five ten, fifteen years essentially fifteen years. Larry Bird played
twelve years, so that's a lot more game. How many
threes do you think Larry Bird took in his career?

Speaker 3 (22:06):
It's got to be under two thousand, that's good.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Seventeen hundred and twenty seven threes seventeen twenty seven. In
terms of threes, Steph Curry's attempted four hundred and forty one.
So the point is that, like all these stats are
going to be the first ever. Now, I don't know
if anybody will ever take nine thousand, four hundred and
forty one threes. Ever again because he's a great player,

(22:30):
who's a great three point shooter, and he's played for
fifteen years and he's going to play next year as well.
It's not gonna be his last year. So to be
at least sixteen years of NBA service, I don't know
if anybody gets at that, but the point is that's
how much the game has changed.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
Yeah it, Doug did Larry Bird play in the NBA
for like a year or two before they even had
the three point line. So I'm looking that. I see
that the NBA introduced the three point line in for
the nineteen seventy nine nineteen eighty season.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
That's his first year.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
I SA was that his first year? I'm pretty sure
first year, so it's pretty much his entire time in
the NBA.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
He played seventy nine eighty was his first year.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Oh okay, good, good, good alignment right there with the stats.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Yeah, there you go. Thanks for listening to The Doug
Gotleep Show podcast. Be sure to catch us live every
weekday from three to five eastern twelve two Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio. Find your local station for The Dougatleep
Show at Foxsports Trader dot Com or stream us live
every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching FSR Stug
gotleep show here on Fox Sports Trading. It is a Friday,
there's lots of games on the docket. Let's do a

(23:31):
little gambler, shall we. The gambler is basically, hey, if
you got one bet you're gonna make that's gonna save
save your buddy, or save your entire life savings. What
would it be. I haven't been told to not to

(23:57):
give out a pick on college basketball. I just don't
think it's a great look, right right, So I'm not
going to give a college even though it's champ week.
I'm not gonna be a great pick. I can pick.
I can tell you. I think when we get to
the tournament bracket, I'll make my picks there. That's no
big deal. But in terms of lines and stuff, I
don't think that's a good look. So you guys make
your picks and I'll I'll give you maybe a futures pick.

(24:21):
I have a futures NFL draft pick, and then they
also have an NBA line I that I like. Let's
start with you months, all right, the one pick that
you would stack your life savings on.

Speaker 5 (24:34):
I mean, it's pretty obvious that you should probably take
the Nuggets, who are favored by fifteen and a half
tonight over the Lakers. Yesterday, Luka Donca dropped forty five
points and the Lakers still lost by twenty to the
Milwaukee Bucks.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
So they're going to go play the Nuggets, who we know.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
The Nuggets like to, you know, pretend not pretend they
like to make the Lakers there a little bro So
I don't think they're going to ease up.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
I think they're going to crush them.

Speaker 5 (24:57):
And I would easily put a bunch of money on
the Nuggets fifteen and a half point spread over the
Lakers tonight.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Okay, I assume that's the secret to a George divided
cannot stand.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
George Washington is taking on George Mason in the Atlantic
ten Championship quarterfinal that actually starts in about twenty five minutes.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Here.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Listen, George Mason. You know you shouldn't compare conference conference
results too much, but George Mason went fifteen and three
in the A ten and George Washington went nine to nine. Yeah,
George Mason's only a three and a half point favorite.
That seems too small to me. I'm gonna say George
Mason covers that three and a half gets the dubbed
move on to the semis. In the A ten A

(25:48):
George divided will stand. It will be George Mason taking
over beating out George Washington three and a half.

Speaker 6 (25:58):
Okay, Ryan, I'm going to look past the weekend and
go to early next week. And when I say early,
I mean early because this game is on in the
wee hours of the morning, and that is, of course
the first baseball game of the season that will be
taking place in Tokyo, Dodgers Cubs, the semi opening day

(26:18):
of sorts. It is the first real game. Of course,
both teams will go back to spring training after this
for a week or so and then everybody will have
Opening Day. So stupid, but I'm looking at this game
and it is the Dodgers opening up with Yoshinobu Yamamoto
against Shota Moanaga and the Cubs. Now, the Dodgers are
favored on the money line at minus one seventy. However,

(26:41):
on the run line as a minus one and a
half favorite on the As a favorite on the run line,
it's plus one oh two for a minus one and
a half, so they're heavy favorites to win the game,
but apparently just by one. No, give me that minus
one and a half for the Dodgers. Of course, early
in the season, kind you can bet on offenses being better,

(27:02):
right because pitchers are still getting into the swing of things.
Of Course, both Yamamoto and Yamanaga coming back home to Japan,
they're both going to be fired up. This is going
to be an awesome two game set. But I like
the Dodgers to win this game and win it handily.
I think they're gonna win both games. Rookie Sasaki making
his debut in Japan. That's incredibly cool, and of course

(27:25):
the return of Shoe Otani to Japan. Give me the
Dodgers in both these games. Minus one and a half
in that first game in Tokyo.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Okay Hawks take on the Clippers tonight at home. Hawks
have won four to row, five out of six. Clip's
been playing good basketball, as MONSI knows. On the road,
right Yeah, at home they won three game home stand
beat the Pistons, who stink the Knicks for are good.
Although it was actually before after Jalen Brunson rolled his
ankle and then the Kings after I said they just

(27:57):
beat the Heat on the road after losing to the Pelicans.
I just think though that you get they've been on
the road for they left the tenth this is the fourteenth,
so it's the fifth day. Then you're on the road.
The Hawks have been at home. The Hawks are playing
good ball, and the Hawks are four and a half
point dogs the Hawks tonight, the Hawks night, Hawks to
win a Hawks to win a close one, close one,

(28:20):
even though the Clippers have won four of their last five,
so two of the Hawks. That's the Gambler.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Everybody now for counting win to hold on?

Speaker 7 (28:29):
Well, come on, come on sitting at the table.

Speaker 6 (28:45):
For counting.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Good job, good job, guys.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
I don't think that was a good job.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Monsey barely heard.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
I don't. I not know that song. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
I only hear when I'm here with you.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Ever, you know, we don't know. You have no idea
the song the Gambler.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
I know it, but like I don't know it.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
And how much Kenny Rodgers on your Spotify months you
don't have?

Speaker 1 (29:10):
This is this is must listen stuff, right, this is
must know, this is must know. It's it's a lot
like you don't have to know Canterbury Tales. You don't
know like chapter and verse, but you gotta know Canterbury
Tales is about you know, Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, you
know all kinds of the classics. This is that type
of classic song.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
The gist.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Yeah, so what you need to know.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Is this, it's more of the like the rhythm.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
You have to know when to hold them. You know
when to hold them?

Speaker 3 (29:35):
No, one to hold them?

Speaker 1 (29:36):
No, when to fold them?

Speaker 3 (29:37):
No, when to fold them?

Speaker 1 (29:38):
No, when to walk away?

Speaker 3 (29:39):
No, when to walk away?

Speaker 4 (29:40):
No?

Speaker 1 (29:40):
When to run?

Speaker 5 (29:41):
No?

Speaker 2 (29:41):
When to run?

Speaker 1 (29:42):
You never count your money.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
You never count your money.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
When you're sitting at the table.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
When you're sitting at.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
The table, they'll be time enough for counting.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
There'll be time enough for counting.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
When the dealing is done.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
When the dealing is done.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
No time.

Speaker 8 (30:02):
To walk away, run She's got never count your money
when he's sitting at the table, they'll be timing up
for counting.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Just moncie.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
When the deal in's done.

Speaker 8 (30:16):
There you go, be a good sport.

of your radio. But whatever, I mean, I'm just doing,
you know, I just do what I'm told. Let's get
to the press, the press months. What do you go?

Speaker 5 (31:31):
All right, coach, We're gonna start with the NFL here,
you know, as Charger fans probably a little disappointed.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
I am that we lost Joey Bosa.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Joey Bosa did speak a little on why he shows Buffalo.

Speaker 9 (31:44):
I really enjoyed my years in LA, but coming to
a team back like you know, the Ohio State days,
where you're really living in a football town with an
unbelievable fan base, it's really got me excited. I'm ready
to experience something different, Ready.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
To experience something different.

Speaker 5 (32:02):
And apparently Bosa also revealed that Josh Allen sent him
a text, and the texts, according to Sports Illustrated, which
I've in front of me, quote, if we do what
we set out to do.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Then will be immortalized in this city.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
And it's true. Yeah, it's true. Now you will. You
will be be immortalized.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
It's true.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
I do picture Joey bos look at test going this
is cool.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Yeah, it is a big change.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Josh Allen just texted me, Oh yeah, no, I mean
you're your your big fish, little pond as opposed to
you know, medium sized fish and a gigantic pond in LA.
But I mean, like look, he was kind of odd
man out of here. They switched defensive schemes they did.
He has been oft injured. I like Joey Boside, nothing

(32:49):
as a Charger fan, nothing bad to say about him,
and you know, as long as they don't play the Chargers,
I hope he gets to SUPERWL with.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
The Bills, Right, I like that. I feel the same way.

Speaker 10 (33:00):
News this is developing, NFL Network ESPN both talking that
the Bengals have made significant progress on contract extensions with
Jamar Chase and Ti Higgins.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
Apparently these deals could be finalized in the coming days,
and the expectation around the league is that Jamar Chase's
new deal, when it gets done, will average somewhere in
the range of like forty point one million to forty
one million per year, topping Miles Garrett, making him the
highest paid non quarterback in the NFL. And obviously this

(33:33):
is probably what Joe Burrow wants.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
Yeah, yeah, Jamar Chase is awesome. Again. I don't study
it enough to be you know, Daniel Jeremiah, to be
Mark Dominic, to be any of the NFL guests that
we have on. But to the naked eye, he is
as good as at as wide receiver as anybody I've

(33:56):
ever seen and in my lifetime, that includes Jerry, that
includes Mike Irvin, that includes like you pick it, Steve
Smith Senior, that includes all those guys. To he's that
dominant where he's he's seven to eleven, he's always.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
Open, he's always open.

Speaker 5 (34:13):
Yeah, it's a guy you definitely don't let walk away.
But I mean, like the Bengals, obviously offensively wasn't their
issue this past season, so no defense was.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
But what happens with these new deals those months is
eventually that it's gonna get you on the salary cap.
But you know what they what they do is it
doesn't hurt you as much in the first year as
other years. So there is a way in which they
can then go and load up with defense. They're gonna
have to do it though, like the Rams did, where
you have these expensive pieces and then really go young
and draft a bunch of defensive players.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
Now all right, So you mentioned earlier in the show
Bruce Pearl, and we were all like, oh, what did
Bruce Pearl say about his guards? And so we got
the sound don't worry is edited, but this is what
he say after they won yesterday.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
The key to work three point line defense is that
got bigs that can get out their guard guards. I
got bigs out their guard guards and my guards.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
They're going to go down there and bag a little bit,
you know, the.

Speaker 1 (35:14):
Writing check right now.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
That was so for the listeners.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
This was on live TV, which is the reaction, and
and what he said sounds like whissies.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
That they're not whissies. I can't he I don't even.

Speaker 5 (35:34):
Know what I would have done if I was sitting
next to him on live TV and he said that.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
They're just laughing. Bruce is the best man.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
And he said it so nonchalantly.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Well, I mean, you're just it's very common basketball expression.
Unfortunately it does not usually yellowed on TV.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
It's not.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
Yes, no, definitely definitely not. But yeah, no, I definitely
enjoyed it. So thanks for bringing that in to our lives.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
Coach.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
All right, how about this, Doug, In case you missed,
a USC's.

Speaker 5 (36:04):
Guard star Juju Watkins has signed an exclusive multi year
deal with Fanatics and Fanatics Collectibles that's like their trading
card division.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
First female college.

Speaker 5 (36:13):
Athlete to sign a deal like this with Fanatics, so,
you know, autograph memorabilia, photos, Basketball's trading cards, the whole
thing Juju Watkins.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
Are you surprised, No, But I.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Feel like I feel like the Juju Watskins thing is
she's awesome. She's very talented, Yeah, really really talented. I
feel like this is an over reaction expecting a Caitlin
Clark effect, and I don't think that's happened. I think
the basketball world it's like, man, she's really really good.
You know, she's well respected. But the difference in Kaitlyn

(36:48):
Clark was she just had crossover to where, you know,
every little girl in the Midwest was it was just
a thing. So it may be it feels like a
little much. I could be wrong. I don't know what
the numbers would be like for selling these cards, but
I don't feel like there's people lining up in the
streets like there would be for Kaitlin Clark.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
You know, I don't disagree with you because I think
she's great.

Speaker 5 (37:12):
I mean, she got a little cold in that game
against UCLA a few nights ago, but.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
She is great.

Speaker 5 (37:17):
I agree, though I don't know if it's the same
effect as Caitlyn Clark. It's it's yeah, it's I wouldn't say,
and I didn't think that either going into the season,
but she's she is great, and I do wonder like
how in the long run, like what this does.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
Mean for fanatics and juw jew. I mean, I'm all
for it, but I'm with you. I I totally this.

Speaker 1 (37:38):
Is a lot like who was it? Who was the
woman who's like, oh, I don't have my own shoe?
I think your own shoe, but it's like not gonna
come out until next year or whatever.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
Like is it about Asia Wilson?

Speaker 1 (37:47):
Yeah, yeah, just because you're awesome doesn't mean people buy
your shoes.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Like that's right, that's like a whole separate thing.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
Yes, yeah, I don't people don't get that like the
shop Listen.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
People do the same thing with their schools in getting
into a different conference. I've had people go like, yeah,
our team's awesome. We're a private school. Do you think
we can go to the Big East? Like what? No? No, Yeah,
just because you're good does not mean you're popular. Yes,
that's or just because you're popular, and I mean you're good, right, Like.

Speaker 5 (38:19):
There's a bit of an X factor because you don't
even have to be that good, but if you have
a bit of an X factor, you might be able
to sell stuff fair. You know, and that's the press.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Coach, they get out there and press.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
That was the press. That's the Doug Gottleb Show, Fox
Sports Trader. All Right, Selection Sunday is coming up. We'll
have some new all balls for you over the weekend
and then Monday we'll try and help you win your bracket.
How's that sound sounds pretty good? Good? Okay. If you're
listening to us in the Midwest and the South East,
a lot of storms day, please be safe. Then PLoP
yourself down front of your TV and enjoy March madness.
